Great for these types of students

Troy University is great for students who like small towns, small campuses, and are approachable. If you are someone that don't usually like to speak when spoken to then don't go here because most people speak when you pass them and you don't want a bad impression.

    Tips for prospective students

Troy University is a school with good academics and an impressive staff. The professors try to get to know as many of their students as possible and expect the same effort in return. They are not difficult but expect the students to do their work. Walk into class with an attitude saying that you will make it and try your best instead of trying to float through your courses with minimal effort.

    Bang for the buck

This is ultimately a bang for the buck because not only do you get a good education, but compared to other schools this one is cheaper. The campus is also well kept.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because I don't feel like I have to do certain things like party, smoke, and drink just to have a good time. With organizations such as the Baptist Campus Ministry, SGA, the Univeristy Activities Counsel, one does not have to be bored and can have good clean fun.

    Am learning a lot

I learn a lot because of the variety of students.

If you love a school with a diverse range of people. If you enjoy hard work and determination.

    Tips for prospective students

Troy University is an extremely social school. The students at Troy University make sure that their peers have a fun college experience. There are FREE movie nights on campus which gives you an opportunity to meet new people. There are always different kinds of events to mingle with other students. The football games are far more exciting than people may realize. Troy has a wide variety of classes to choose from. The academics are NOT all easy. But they are a stepping stone for your future career. I love my University. So if you are coming to Troy be prepared to have tons of fun and a great learning experience.

Great for these types of students

I love sports and the ensuing parties! Since joining the TROY family I have become a FANATIC of Trojan athletics. Last college season - although living in SC - I attended every TROY football game and had the time of my life! Although my guys lost some heart breakers, we put-up a very good fight against some pretty good football teams, and then went on to win our bowl game against Ohio U. Troy Baseball is also one to see. This year we almost made it to the Super Regionals before losing to Belmont in the 1st round. TROY University may be dubbed as a mid major university, inside beats the heart of a true Goliath. Come join me and finally realize The Future of Opportunities. See you class… Mark Brunner - eTroy Gard School...

    Tips for prospective students

TROY offers many different degrees online and traditionally; from Associates to Bachelors, Master’s and now finishing with a Terminal Doctorate. The convenience of TROY’s distance learning is 2nd to none. The course work and course syllabus is exactly the same as it would be at TROY’s many brick-and-mortar locations throughout. Also, be sure to become a Lifetime Member of the Alumni Association. You wouldn't believe the benefits!

    Bang for the buck

One of TROY’s greatest attributes is the affordable tuition cost and class sizes. FORBES Magazine & GetEducated.com has named TROY as 'Best Buys.' Professors are courteous, freindly, knowledgeable and have each student’s best interest at heart. They put you 1st in the equation and take a backseat to your success.

    Am enjoying being here

Love the diversity of the campus. That's what attracted me the most. Students of all races and backgrounds coming together to achieve greatness.

    Am learning a lot

I am a proud student of TROY University’s Graduate School Programs offered both on campus and/or through eTroy BlackBoard technology. I have nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation of the kinds of opportunities my TROY University degree provides for me and my family.

    Campus Safety

Troy's campus is generally safe. Regardless, I would recommend that if you do decide to walk the campus at night, please do not walk alone.

    Greek Life

You will find many Greek organizations available at Troy complete with a Sorority Hill and Fraternity Row for their respective living quarters.

    Clubs and Activities

Troy offers many types of clubs and activities to join as diverse as the people you can meet on campus. You can also start your own group if you meet the necessary requirements.

Great for these types of students

Military students International (International-minded) students Non-traditional students Students interested in studying abroad

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Troy University has the Trojan Walk where anyone interested will meet with the marching band and football team in a march to the stadium prior to football games. During Homecoming, the school has a parade through the downtown area of Troy. Here, various campus organizations design floats to showcase. Also, Troy U. has a Spring Fling.

    What to do for fun

Fun is a relative term..haha.. Whether you enjoy meeting people and expanding your mind beyond your country's border, going out to one of the few bars in the area, or traveling to nearby beaches: Panama City Beach, FL or Destin, FL, Troy can guide you!

    Food and Dining

Troy University recently opened a new, state of the art dining facility that includes a hibachi-style restaurant, Moe's Southwest Grill, and Boar's Head. The Trojan Center (student center) also features a food court which includes Einstein Bros. Bagels, SubConnection, Mein Bowl Asian Cuisine, A&W, Chick-fil-a Express, Marketplace, and hopefully soon-to-be-open Papa John's Pizza.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life can be nice depending on the dormitory you live, but overall dorm living is not that great. Some of the larger units are long due for renovations. The newer dorms however are very nice, but lack stoves to cook. Recommendations: Clements Hall(co-ed), Pace Hall(co-ed), Trojan Village(co-ed), Shackelford Hall(co-ed), or Cowart Hall(female only)

    Academic Rigor

Troy has a great academic program that has been recognized by various sources including Forbes Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Institute of International Education, and the Princeton Review to name a few. Troy also has a strong Study Abroad program partnering with various schools around the world.

    Tips for prospective students

Troy is a relatively small town and there is not much going on in the area; at the same time, this could be good as it leads to less distractions from achieving educational goals. Unlike larger schools, you have a great chance to build relationships with fellow students and faculty alike.

    In three sentences

At Troy University, you can meet the whole world in one small campus. Troy also stands as one of the top schools in the Southeast according to reviews by sources such as Forbes Magazine and the Princeton Review. Here, you can receive a great education while expanding your horizon globally.

    Tips for prospective students

The best school for the non-traditional student who has a life outside of school. Schedules are convenient and varied for those with families, jobs and busy lives. You can attend at your own pace with total support for reaching your goals and dreams.

    Bang for the buck

The cost for education is very compatible with other schools and I believe I am getting my money's worth in education as well as experience.

    Am enjoying being here

This school has many opportunities and activities available to meet the desires and ambitions of students.

    Am learning a lot

Troy University Montgomery has the best teachers and professors who are willing to work with you and care about your success.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you take a campus visit. I liked Troy from what I saw on their website, but my campus visit really convinced me that this was the school for me.

    Bang for the buck

Troy University is kind of cheap as far as tuition and fees go, but I think you get a still get a quality education.

    Am enjoying being here

One of the things I like most about Troy University is that there's something for everyone to do. There are several organizations to join and there is almost always something to do on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the classrooms have between 20-25 students to one teacher. The professors try to get to know the students, which makes the environment a little more casual.

Great for these types of students

Troy University is great for international students. Troy University is also into ROTC students. Students at Troy University get extremely excited about Trojan football games as well!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There are so many activities, events, and groups/clubs to get involved with. I love going to free movie night and I also enjoy going to the BCM. Parking can get really bad! I suggest car-pooling if you want to live off campus or if you live close enough to walk. There is also a shuttle that goes around campus.

    Bang for the buck

Troy University has a new saga!

Great for these types of students

Troy University is great for any student majoring in any field. It has many activities on campus as well as a International Student Center. Troy is open to anyone and this school can fit you with the perfect major and organization for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get your mind set on one specific school or major. When I first started applying for colleges, I dreamed of attending Auburn University and majoring in physical therapy; however, it worked out for the best for me to be at Troy University and majoring in Athletic Training. So don't beat down on yourself if you don't get exactly what you had in mind. Being at Troy has been an amazing experience and I wouldn't change it for the world.

    Bang for the buck

Troy University gave me a leadership scholarship, which has not only given me financial aid, but also given me the opportunity to be in the leadership course with many wonderful students and teachers. It is free for all students to enter any home sporting event, as long as the student has their Trojan ID card with them. The meal plan has helped me out tremendously because Troy has many places to eat on campus and being able to pay using my Trojan ID card has been a blessing.

    Am enjoying being here

I am in love with Troy University. The campus is beautiful and just the right size for me. The people are friendly and I have gotten to know many people in and out of my classes. I am so glad that I decided to become part of the Trojan family!

    Am learning a lot

Troy University has given me the chance to extend my knowledge in many different fields of interest. The teachers try their hardest to keep each and every student on the right track and make sure they understand. I really enjoy being a student here at Troy University and have learned more in my first semester than I thought I would.

Students who like to mingle and socialize, students who are determined, and students who loves a academic challenge.

    Tips for prospective students

Troy campus will love to have you. Troy is a very good and academically challenged school. Here at Troy you are expected to do great and to learn how to socialize with others. Troy has an excellent and a sweet staff. The people here at Troy are very helpful and don't mind making you feel nothing but welcomed. My first semester here at Troy was discoverable and interesting. I first was scared my first day here but once one of the nice staff members approached me and made conversation I was relieved. My advice for you is stay determined and come to Troy.

    Campus Safety

due to its small town feel, troy keeps a pretty safe feel; however, it is a college campus, so trouble can be found if you look hard enough.

    Greek Life

troy offers a number of fraternities and sororities that are nationally accredited. they play a large role on campus and in the community.

    Clubs and Activities

troy offers a great variety for the greek-aspiring students as well as independent students that just want to be involved. the university activities council provides great volunteer activities and opportunities for entertainment like ice skating, and dollar movie night to name a few.

Great for these types of students

athletes, greeks, and aspiring graduate students all have ample opportunities to excel here. however, any students interested in an international scope would greatly benefit in the troy university system because of its many connections around the globe.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

troy offers one of the largest dining halls in the entire southeast.

    Bang for the buck

troy recently appeared in the forbes magazine for efficiency among american colleges and hold true to their rating. the tuition rates are much lower than surrounding public and private schools alike.

    What to do for fun

troy has a great location that offers a short drive to montgomery or dothan, alabama, but also offers a number of attractions in the city itself. complete with a cinema, bowling, parks, and more troy won't leave you squirming with boredom.

    Food and Dining

with a brand new dining hall that rates among the biggest in the southeast, troy is not competitive with their food options. with a moe's and boar's head on campus along with a number of other options, finding food is not a problem.

    Dorm Life

there are a wide variety of options available to students and many of them are affordable and enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

troy offers a wide variety of academic degrees; however, i am not able to speak for all of them. the math and science department is strenuous and challenging, and i would consider it competitive to most public school sin the nation.

    Tips for prospective students

i encourage everyone considering troy university to visit the school and start some conversations with some people on campus. it will give you a great feel for the loving community here. before making your decision to attend this university or any, make sure that your choice is efficient. troy offers a great opportunity to succeed in the real world; however, nobody can make the choice of what college to attend for you, and i can merely recommend troy based on my experiences.

    In three sentences

troy university provides an affordable, enjoyable college experience to students of all walks of life. with its division one athletics and its prestigious international programs, troy offers great opportunities for social networking and future success. while troy is a public school, it still offers a great community feel where all the students and faculty are striving toward the common goal of preparation and inspiration.

    What to do for fun

there is not a lot to do for fun in troy, alabama. when there are activities going on they are usually on campus and are held at night. they do however offer activities for each culture. troy has an activities council who is responsible for putting together these things. they recently got together with the local theater to offer one dollar movies to people who attended the university on each first and third wednesday of the month. i feel this is the activity that everyone attends the most.

    Food and Dining

i stay off campus, but i dine in the cafe, and trojan center sometimes. off campus students are usually not required to buy meal plans, but for the past two years they are required to buy a two hundred dollar one. i didn't agree with this much because i rarely eat on campus, but now that i go on campus more, it is coming in handy. troy offers a big selection of foods from chinese cuisines to subway.

    Dorm Life

at troy, i never stayed in the dorm. i had friends who did, so i would visit with them. troy has some really shabby looking dorms, and some really nice upscale apartment style ones. the freshman dorms on this campus really need to be remodeled. underclassmen sometimes get lucky and get one of the better looking dorms.

    Academic Rigor

troy university is not a hard school if you study. a lot of students feel that coming to college is like high school but that is not that case. troy offers challenging classes not to hurt you, but to make sure that you have studied the material and get you ready for life outside of college.

    Tips for prospective students

i would advise all prospective students to stay on top of deadlines, and also stay in contact with the school to make sure everything has or is processing smoothly.

    In three sentences

troy university has a nice campus. the teacher's at the school are willing to help. troy also offers academic help to anyone no matter the subject.

    What to do for fun

Having a great social life is a very important part of a person's college career. Troy is large enough, yet small enough, that everyone has a great group of friends to hang out with and make memories with.

    Food and Dining

New Saga = AMAZING. Troy has such a great array of food choices that anyone would be sure to find something that they loved.

    Dorm Life

I actually don't live in the dorms, but my friend lives in Trojan Village and she LOVES it!

    Academic Rigor

The class sizes are perfect. The largest class I attend is approximately 80 students. The smaller class sizes are beneficial because they allow more student-teacher interaction, and make the learning process much easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely CHOOSE TROY! It will be the best decision you have ever made. Be sure to become very active in events and organizations around campus and you will absolutely fall in love with Troy University.

    In three sentences

Troy is an amazing campus. The faculty is absolutely wonderful and make learning enjoyable. The campus is small enough that it isn't overwhelming, but big enough to be enjoyable.

    Food and Dining

I am unsure about food and dining.

    Dorm Life

I am unsure about the dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

For the counseling program, Troy is CACREP credited and therefore makes it easier on you when going for licensure. The classes are small so you have more of a personal relationship with your professor and fellow classmates. It's challenging work, but someone is always willing to help you out.

    Tips for prospective students

Check into your program of interest at Troy. They offer a variety of degrees in a multitude of subjects. Also, campuses are located throughout the lower half of the United States so whatever you need, wherever you need to get it done, Troy is there for you.

    In three sentences

I have loved my experience at Troy University. Everyone that I have met, both students and faculty, have been friendly and outgoing; they all want you to succeed. Someone is always available to lend a helping hand 24/7.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety has increased a lot just in the past year. The minor occurances that have happened in the Spring of 2012 have kept both campus and city police on full alert at all times. There has been an addition of new lighting everywhere on campus and security guards everywhere you turn, especially at night. Things happen at every university, but the campus and city police are definitely on their toes and are determined to keep students away from harm's way at all cost.

    Greek Life

The Greek chapters here at Troy are a major organizations many students at Troy love to take part in. The Greeks provide students great ways to get involved and meet new people and especially keep students showing their Trojan spirit.

    Clubs and Activities

As I mentioned before, Troy has millions of groups to chose from ranging from Greeks, sports teams, political groups and bible study groups. There is something for everyone here at Troy.

Great for these types of students

Students that rely on a small, close-knit community (like me) really thrive here at Troy University. The atmosphere is clear and kind all around. Because the campus is generally small, it enables students to really get to know their professors and vice-versa (a major plus for students that tend to need teachers that will get on a one-on-one level). Though Troy is mostly small, the campus is rapidly growing and admissions continues to gain hundreds of students each year. There are many advances the school has taken on just in the past year: a new dining hall, a new sports arena that is to be completed by the fall of 2012, a brand new band room to be completed very soon, and a brand new back quad with a beautiful new fountain. Troy is growing more and more every year, and it is exciting to see the growing number of students that come to Troy.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sorority Hill and Fraternity Row hold all of their parties and social gatherings after pep rallies on Thursday nights- mostly. The tradition held at Troy University's football games and pep rallies such as Trojan Walk and The Sound of the South (Marching Band) are just the start of the many traditions that continue to live on here at Troy.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to every University in the South East, Troy is definitely the cheapest choice. The fact that Troy offers in-state tuition for a few select counties in Georgia and the Florida Panhandle is a definite two thumbs up. You cannot find any other university in the area for such a great deal. Troy also offers thousands of scholarship opportunities for every student.

    What to do for fun

There are many organizations on campus to keep students active and involved in University activities ranging from Greek life, political organizations, sports and bible study groups. The city of Troy has a decent number of department stores and a Wal Mart, providing everything imaginable to keep dorm rooms and fridges fully stocked. Troy is also half-way between Montgomery and Dothan (about 45 minutes away from both): The perfect destination for weekend shopping trips and get-aways.

    Food and Dining

Troy has a variety of food choices for all students on and off campus. The city of Troy has nearly every fast food restraunt you can find in the South-East region of the United States as well as a decent number of good-quality dining. The Trojan Center has a Market Place (cafeteria style food), Chick-Fil-A Express, A&W Burgers, SubConection and an Einstein Bros. Bagel Shop. The brand new Trojan Dining Hall (Saga) also has a variety of foods to choose from. Saga is fully equipped with a salad bar, sandwich bar, pizza and past bar, a cafeteria style bar as well as an all-American food bar with grilled cheese, hot dogs, burgers and fries/chips. Each bar has a new special every day and it is impossible to not find one place to eat. Saga also has a Magellan's (stir-fry) and a Moe's Southwest Grill upstairs. All of Saga's meals are deducted from each student's meal plan and all of the Trojan Center dining (and Moe's) requires flex dollars.

    Dorm Life

Again, Troy is what you make of it. All of the dorms on campus are fully capable of meeting any student's needs. Whether the student be assigned to Hamil Hall, Alumni Hall or Trojan Village, there are pros and cons to every dorm here at Troy. The RA's (Resident Assistants) are very well-prepared to help their residents to the best of their abilities. You will never have any questions to go unanswered. There are pros and cons to every college experience you will have at Troy, or anywhere for that matter. It is what you make of it.

    Academic Rigor

Troy's classes are just as rigorous as any other 4-year university program. Classes are not hard, but they do require effort. The education you receive at Troy is just as great as the education you will get at the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Florida State University and the University of Florida and any other bordering-state universities. Troy might even be better for students that are new to the college environment. Like me, students that are in need of great teachers that are willing to work with you and help you every step of the way thrive here at Troy University. There is not one time you will walk into the Trojan Center or the dining hall and find professors actually sitting down, enjoying a conversation with a student over a meal.

    Tips for prospective students

Troy is what you make of it. If you refuse to get involved and you refuse to keep an open mind, Troy may not be the best place for you. One of the best things about Troy is that there is ALWAYS a group for students to get out there and stay active!

    In three sentences

Troy is a great place to go to college! The small community is GREAT for first-year university students. The education received at Troy is outstanding.

    Campus Safety

There is always someone around that will help with whatever is going on. I have personally gotten to know one of the member of the campus police and he is very friendly.

    Clubs and Activities

There is always something going on. No complaining from my end!

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive but Troy University- Dothan campus makes it all worth it.

    What to do for fun

There is a walking trail at the back of the campus that is good for strolling between classes.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is so-so. Not a lot of healthy options.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorm so this does not apply to me.

    Academic Rigor

Super intense but super easy if you pay attention to the lectures!

    Tips for prospective students

Do not take the elevators. Stairs are faster and also very good exercise!

    In three sentences

Troy University is the best college that I have attended. The teachers genuinely care about the students and will do anything to help out. Also, the staff as a whole are very helpful.

    Campus Safety

The police officers are the best and the security guards do rounds all night making sure that doors are locked and that there are now suspicious people on campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a huge part of Troy University. The Greek houses are phenomenal and the traditions are ingrained in the University's cornerstone. They are also very well behaved- no type of harmful hazing is allowed at Troy University.

Great for these types of students

People who like smaller class sizes People who like professors who are willing to work one-on-one People who like peace and quiet Religious students

    Bang for the buck

Troy is a very low-cost University.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and groups to join at Troy, and there are some local bars in town. The fraternities are always hosting parties, and there is usually an interesting campus-wide event at least once a week (a recent example would be dodgeball and an author coming to speak about her book).

    Food and Dining

With many options around campus and a variety of dining plans, Troy stands out amongst the rest. The campus dining hall is an all-you-can-eat buffet with many different choices and a lot of conscious-food choices signage around, as well as an app that tracks student's eating habits and exercise goals (at the desecration of the student).

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great and dorm life is fun. Housing is very helpful when you have issues with your room or even roommate.

    Academic Rigor

There are some easier classes and some harder classes. I like a mixture of both. All classes are very fun and informative.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour to learn where everything is. Come to an early IMPACT session if you are admitted. Plan your classes according to when you like to do things, not when you think you should be doing them. Applying is easy, do not get too stressed about it, even though it usually takes some time before Troy will get back with you on your application.

    In three sentences

A beautiful campus and lovely stuff. Everyone is very nice and helpful. The best college experience available in Alabama.

    What to do for fun

For fun...well, go to the athletic events! Participate in the talent shows, and get involved with the organizations on campus! You'll find something to do! Outside of that, there's a movie theater, a recreational center, and Troy isn't far from Montgomery, Dothan, Auburn, or Florida!

    Food and Dining

Depending on what you like, there is a little something for everyone! If you're a American fast food type diner you'll feel even more at home. Also, the company that caters (Sodexo) is good about getting the students opinions on what's good and what they'd like to try.

    Dorm Life

I have not had to live in the dorms here at Troy, but I can say they are livable!

    Academic Rigor

I would say that Troy is challenging, but that as long as you study and ask questions you'll do fine.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. SELF-ESTEEM ---Be true to YOURSELF!! Nobody can define you, but you. Let words of discouragement be motivation to be the best YOU that you can be. KNOW who you are and embrace it!! NOBODY can deny you when you accept yourself. 2. STUDY---(you are in college to learn how to be a successful critical thinker and productive citizen- GPA is the key to those upper echelon jobs as well as the masters programs--since Bachelors almost aren't enough anymore) 3. SAVE---- As a college student you can't afford to spend every cent you get. Put back at least 15% of every paycheck (allowance/refund) so that in case something happens you have the funds to take care of it and don't have to ask your parents. 4. SERVE--- Get involved! The more you're seen the more you're noticed for awards, organizations, and jobs. 5. SOCIALIZE--- Don't be a loner!! You're at college for a new experience including friends!! No, everybody isn't going to be your best friend, but it is always good to network. You never know who someone may know, or who someone they know might know. And don't stick to your social group be diverse because merely hanging around your ethnic group...or a certain peer group will leave you stagnant and unable to relate/function in many real world situations.

    In three sentences

Troy University has a diverse campus. There are many activities to get involved in around campus. There is a overall welcoming feeling here.

    Bang for the buck

Troy has one of the lowest tuition rates in the state and the classes are great.

    What to do for fun

The University Activities Council offers many options, including a game room, laser tag, paintball, and sports events.

    Dorm Life

Every teacher I had at this point is willing to work with their students and better explain. They are all for the most part very approachable.

    Greek Life

I am involved in Greek life at Troy and couldn't be happier with my decision to go through rush. Being Greek at a small school like this really helps you to get to know everyone. All the fraternities/sororities are really close and I can walk through campus and stop and talk to half a dozen other Greeks that I know within 10 minutes. I HIGHLY encourage anyone coming to Troy to get involved in Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 125 on campus clubs that students can get involved in; the types of clubs range from Student Government Club to Medieval Club and anywhere in between. There really is a club for everyone and if a student can't seem to find one that exactly fits their cause, then it is a VERY simple process in creating one. I am in four clubs myself and would easily join more if I had the time to.

    Bang for the buck

I am at Troy University on the Millennium Scholarship (full tuition, room, and board) so I don't actually pay for my schooling. However, the school is a top notch school and is continuously growing in prestige. Tuition and housing is VERY reasonable and you will definitely be getting a great degree if you attend Troy.

    What to do for fun

I am in a Greek organization so I spend much of my time with my sorority sisters. I STRONGLY advise anyone coming here who wants to get to know people to get involved in Greek life or other on-campus clubs as this will help you meet people. Through my sorority, we have swaps with fraternities, philanthropy events, and socials and functions. Also, many people go to the movies or all get together at a friend's house. There isn't much for the going out scene unless you want to go to a fraternity house but as long as you make friends you will always be able to find something to do here.

    Food and Dining

Troy recently opened a new top-of-the-line buffet-style dining facility that offers a different daily meal, a salad bar, Italian style food, sandwiches and wraps, hibachi style food, and a dessert bar. Additionally, there is a Moe's, Boar's Head, Chic-Fil-A, A&W, Chinese, Einstein Brothers, Sub Connection, and a home-style type dining place. All of the food is of average to good quality (in my opinion) and I don't mind it one bit but I am a little disappointed in the lack of healthy options on campus past fruit and vegetables. Most of the foods are very unhealthy and don't help prevent the dreaded Freshman 15. Also, I tend to get a little burnt out on eating the same foods over and over again.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus my first year of college and really enjoyed it. I came to Troy looking for the complete college experience and believe that living on campus is an integral part of that experience. I loved how close everything is and that I could walk anywhere from my dorm. Aside from the practicality of being on campus, I also enjoyed living near many other students as I made friends with ones that lived in my building. The Resident Assistants were all wonderful and as long as you're not blatantly disregarding the school's policies, you will have a wonderful time on campus.

    Academic Rigor

As previously stated, the classes I have encountered really are not that difficult to pass, you just have to actually attend class and do all the assigned work. Be sure to make friends with the teachers, most of them really like to see a student who is genuinely trying and will often give them a break if they are close to the next letter grade up. However, I have heard that once you get into your upper level classes you HAVE to be disciplined and put in much more work to receive a good grade (which is to be expected).

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely try to talk to a current student to figure out which teachers to take/not to take and get any and all advice you can from them. I live on campus and love it, so definitely try to live on campus your first year. Additionally, the best thing you can do at a small school like this is to get involved in any and everything you can (think Greek Life, SGA, or other similar on-campus groups).

    In three sentences

I came to Troy University on a full-ride scholarship and have been satisfied with my overall experience here. Honestly, the classes I have experienced are of about average difficulty, however they will obviously continue to become more difficult as I progress into my major. Most of the staff is very knowledgeable and willing to go out of their way to help you, however (as with any school) there are some who are just plain out awful!

    Campus Safety

Well, if it is any consultation, Troy recently (April 2012) caught a guy that had made multiple sexual assaults against some campus students. To combat that, Troy says that they will add more street lights and hire more security personnel. Perhaps the campus safety could be better. I definitely don't want to be hanging around at night or anywhere unpopulated.

    Clubs and Activities

There appears to be a lot of club activity going on all over the campus, but I didn't spend enough time around the school to see myself.

Great for these types of students

This school is probably best for international students. I believe Troy University actually has a variety of campuses all over the world, particularly in the eastern countries. In fact, the Troy University in Alabama already has a large Asian community including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese. There are even lots of foreign exchange programs between countries such as these.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

While I've been in Troy, not much of anything has happened other that a large amount of construction. Nothing unusual has really occurred, because the administrators probably could not successfully organize something without obstructing construction.

    Bang for the buck

There was a definite bang in the classrooms. You will learn what you wanted to learn in most of the classes in which you enroll. On the other hand, there seems to be a bit too much buck for what you're getting. You are paying for your excellent lessons, but being charged for things that either do not relate to you directly can be incredibly annoying. In a way, it might be a bit of a catch-22 - Bang for only some of your buck.

    What to do for fun

Troy University had clubs, meetings, games, and more activities going on almost every day. Many times, the information about an event was inscribed on the sidewalks with colorful chalk. It brightened the mood when walking around campus just to see little silly notes all over, and it was interesting to see something different everyday. I never actually went to any events; because of the commute I had to drive, there was never any time for me to stay around. Nevertheless, I do not doubt that there were lots of fun things to do around campus.

    Food and Dining

There is a fairly nice cafeteria, but it has few places to eat. In all, I believe there are three food places in that building. The food itself is good, no doubt. Troy also offers meal plans so that students can have pre-paid meals at the cafeteria semester-long. That deal is more convenient to students who live on-campus. However, Troy recently made their meal plans mandatory for everyone, on and off-campus. Their cafeteria was recently renovated, and I understand that the school needs more money to help pay for those repairs. However, I'm sure that Troy had enough funds from every students' tuition fees to help afford it. I commuted to Troy every weekday and hardly ever ate on-campus, but I still had to pay Troy for their cafeteria. It seems fair for some, but not fair for all.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are mediocre at best. There's a desk, a microwave, and a bed. The mattresses are incredibly thin, the rooms are very small, and the 2-3 lights that are in the rooms can often lead one to a life of half-lit living. Yes, students can bring their own things, but many things are prohibited, making living in the dorms even more difficult. Apparently, many students sneak things into the dorms that are against regulations, but those things tend to be simple household items. Plus, the condition of a standard dorm room does not warrant the cost that Troy offers for them. It'd be much better and perhaps easier to just look into buying a nearby home.

    Academic Rigor

In reference to the classes I've taken, you're sure to be impressed with the quality and even quantity of knowledge you can take from your classes. The teachers I've had have been very thorough and informative. At times, things can get a bit fast-paced with all the information, but that mostly comes with the atmosphere of college.

    Tips for prospective students

To anyone interested in Troy: Try your best to make sure that the classes at Troy correspond with the degree and career that you're seeking. Also, although Troy is not the most expensive school in the world, make sure to know that your funds are up to what they want you to pay for not only classes but for various fees including meal fees, parking fees, and not paying in full fees. Basically, a little bit of prior research goes a long way. When you get into your classes, you'll hopefully be in a much more positive mindset.

    In three sentences

Troy University is a cool school with nice classes and teachers, but the school seems to focus more on money than everything. As far as the classes, I have learned a good bit since enrolling, and I am thankful for that much. However, I hate the aspect of being charged for almost everything except breathing.

    Campus Safety

After having someone on campus assaulted last year, the police department has beefed up their security and lighting around the campus as well as nightly security watch and free escorting as well as a free shuttle service to anywhere in the city by phone call. Troy is safer than ever!

    Greek Life

The greek life at Troy has grown immensely. You will always see some organization on the quad raising awareness for this or collecting donations for that. The greek life is lively and well and are some of the most do-good-ers on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Troy offers a wide variety of different clubs including a religion club where all students of different religions come together to talk about their specific religion, multiple greek clubs and non-greek service clubs, language clubs, honor societies, athletic intramural teams like rugby and soccer, etc. We also have an organization devoted to helping students find clubs and activities that they will enjoy. Every student can find their niche.

Great for these types of students

If you have a not-so-great GPA, Troy can help. But if you are driven by academics and you have a 4.0, there is a place for you here too! Also, Troy hosts over 30 different nationalities and exchange students so there are no minorities and for students who need a little more financial aid (like me), Troy offers a multitude of different scholarships and foundation scholarships as well as low fees. It's the place to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We just celebrated our 125th anniversary which educated the students on it's heritage and future. The Thinker statue always has people flocked to it for it's uniqueness and beautiful setting. One of my favorite places is the rose garden which gives people a place to spend some quiet time while enjoying the beauty of the roses!

    Bang for the buck

Florida and Georgia residents almost always get in-state tuition. Compared to Florida State University, Troy's housing is 4x less expensive. You also get smaller classes which means more one-on-one time with your professor (ex.; my Music Theory II class last semester had 8 students). Troy is well worth the money!

    What to do for fun

Troy is a very small city but about 45 minutes away is the capital of Alabama which is booming with all sorts of things to do, see and explore. Because Troy is a small city, crime rates are lower and so are vehicle accidents. I prefer it this way.

    Food and Dining

Troy just developed a brand new dining center which is apparently the biggest in Alabama. They have all kinds of food from brick-oven pizza to home cooked meals like my mom's to ice cream and boars head and Moes. It's all delicious and a lot of it is very healthy!

    Dorm Life

I, personally, did not live in the dorms so I cannot make a sound judgement on this topic. What I can say is that I will be living in the dorms this upcoming year and I have visited my dorm and am very excited. I did not like living off campus and can't wait to live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

At any university it truly depends on the classes you take. Honors Organic Chemistry will ALWAYS be more rigorous than Chemistry 1. If you are practical with your work load, you study and you speak with your professors then you have no reason to not do well.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus AT LEAST twice! I visited in February while auditioning for a music scholarship and hated it because I put myself under stress about my audition but now I would never want to go anywhere else than Troy. Go on a nice day when your mind can really focus on the place and talk to the people on campus! They would love to help.

    In three sentences

Troy University gives their students the power with a small and intimate campus, terrific professors and faculty whose utmost goal is to assist the students and an all-around fun and unique experience. Tuition is reasonable, food is great and the people there are all so nice! My college experience at Troy has given me insight into the real world while checking in on me and really caring about how I am doing and how they can make my experience better.

    Campus Safety

Troy University has excellent reviews and reputation. I feel confidant in the security on campus.

    Greek Life

I do not plan to be involved in Greek Life on campus, but will pursue Honors organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

The activities I have been involved in are as followed: ï?§ Sr. Beta-2011: Reporter / 2012: Vice-President ï?§ Future Business Leaders of America ï?§ Student Government Association-2011: Secretary/ 2012: Vice-President ï?§ ASTRA-2010-2011: Historian/Secretary / -2012: President ï?§ Future Farmers of America -Meats ID Team/Scrapbook Team /Spring Turf Crew ï?§ Yearbook Staff ï?§ 2011 Coffee County Youth Leadership Program -2011: Photographer ï?§ Mu Alpha Theta/Math Club-2012: President - Math Bowl Participant ï?§ Diamond Dolls ï?§ Volleyball ï?§ Basketball ï?§ Softball I am currently enrolled in the Leadership Program at Troy University and will conduct several volunteer hours throughout the semesters.

    What to do for fun

As an athletic throughout my high school, I plan to be involved in the Intramural program and plan volleyball and basketball. I am currently a member of a girl's organization, ASTRA, which does volunteer work throughout our community. Of course, hanging out with my family and friends is always a blast of fun.

    Food and Dining

I will purchase a meal plan offered by Troy University. It will allow me to eat at various locations on campus during my classes. I find this highly rewarding, in the fact that I will not have to leave campus or worry about not having any extra cash for lunch.

    Dorm Life

I will not be staying on campus. I live approximately 18 miles from Troy University and will live at home for my first year. Prior to my second year, I will live on my own to learn the rigorous challenges of being a responsible adult.

    Academic Rigor

I could have waiting to pursue my higher education later, but I prefer to push ahead and to challenge myself. Although I am nervous about entering a new stage in my life, I know that a college degree will show me things that will help me improve myself and knowledge to become successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Not every college is for every student, so I would highly suggest a student looking for a college to visit different colleges. Perhaps, different colleges of different sizes. Some students find that it is easier to perform on a smaller college and may become overwhelmed with larger populations of the larger colleges. I also suggest to visit the department of study they plan to pursue. First impression can be everything. If a department appears to not have time for you, then that may be a sign. However, the faculty of the department, should welcome perspective students with open arms. After-all, educating students is the reason they are there.

    In three sentences

From a 1 to 10, I rate Troy University at a 10. It has the Degree I plan to pursue; as well as, the minors, Photography, Leadership, and Spanish, I am seeking. Graphic Design will help me prepare to own my own photography business. I am currently including Leadership as a part of my Degree and plan to continue my positive role in my community for young and old alike.

    Food and Dining

The food is 100% better than high school cafeteria food. There's something for everyone.

    Dorm Life

The dorms aren't really spacious, but they'll do. Roommates on the other hand, some are mature and act their age, and others still need their mommy to do for them. Hopefully you'll end up with someone you'll make a lifelong friendship with.

    Academic Rigor

Classes aren't that bad at Troy University. The main thing to watch out for is research papers and deadlines. Most teachers don't give out notes, so make sure you can keep up. Some teacher might give you a break by sending out power points, but you still should study with the book.

    Tips for prospective students

When attending any college, make sure partying isn't your only agenda. Don't get caught in all the hype of a school event and do something you'll end up regretting. Join an organization to enjoy your college experience. Also, major in something you're interested in instead of what pays more.

    What to do for fun

Troy offers a lot of activities for fun. Troy has over 100 clubs and extracurricular activities.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is amazing. Troy has recently updated their dining hall and it is really nice and delicious. Troy also has easy access to food all around campus just in case you can not go somewhere and sit down.

    Dorm Life

I did not like the dorm life. The dorms need to be updated and refurnished.

    Academic Rigor

Academicially Troy is a tough school but they help you actually learn something. No one truly gives you everything but you have to work for what you want and earn it.

    Tips for prospective students

Always stay ahead. Do not fall behind or else you will suffer.

    Clubs and Activities

While the school boasts their large number of student organizations, I would argue that most of them are small and do little community service. Whether this is due to the fact that Troy is small and outreach opportunities are less compared to larger cities, I don't know. There are clubs for everyone though! Circle K for those interested in service, Honor Societies (including Pre-Health Professions), and the International Student Cultural Organization (ISCO) are good examples. Make sure to attend some of the organization fairs at the beginning of the semester when you come here!

Great for these types of students

If you enjoy a small town atmosphere and the people that generally come with it, take a look at Troy! Locals are generally warm and friendly, but can be (in my opinion) a little narrow-minded when it comes to those who stray from the conservative norm here. Being gay and non-religious, I've had trouble finding friends that I can relate to, especially considering that greek life takes over here. With that being said, students are friendly, but beware that there is a rift between the greeks and independents.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a good choice for those students who are strapped for cash and want to avoid taking out too many loans. Their scholarships for academic performance and leadership in high school are generous, especially for students with high standardized test scores.

    Food and Dining

As a meal plan owner, this is one of my favorite things about Troy! The on-campus dining is great, especially at the dining hall. Some of the students who have been here a while might not agree, but I love it. They have different selections every day so it's pretty much impossible to walk around the building and not find something you want.

    Dorm Life

I live off-campus so take my word with a grain of salt, but the dorms are in varied condition. Alumni, Hamil, Gardner, and to an extent, Cowart seem to be in need of an update. Trojan Village and Shackelford Hall would be my choices for the best housing on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Note: This review is MY opinion, so please don't be offended. The academics here are relatively good, especially in a small town such as Troy. Most of my professors have been great; each knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects. The students are the problem in this case more so in the general studies classes. In my experience, some of the students are apathetic in classes, and consequently, the professor scales the test to prevent these students from failing. There's a huge lack of intellectual curiosity, and in a few of my classes, when faced with a challenge, students will mumble, complain, or even argue with the teacher. Perhaps, lack of hard work when it comes to classes is just one of my pet peeves.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus and look around to make sure you will enjoy the atmosphere. Also, consider your fit for the town as well as the university. I know that I regret my decision to come here now and wish I would have taken the risk of going to a university in a larger city.

    In three sentences

Troy is a GREAT choice for people who love small towns and knowing everyone. If you're looking for preparation for graduate or professional school, then I would try to look at other colleges where pre-grad programs are reputable. Its affordability, both in tuition and cost of living, can't be underestimated either.

    Campus Safety

Sometimes if you have night classes it can get pretty creepy. Some areas are not well lit and there are virtually no cameras . A guy recently got robbed coming out of the dorm and the suspects are still at large.

    Greek Life

The AKA'S and Delta's are the best. They step with confidence and pose. Most are very nice too, unlike the stuck up barbie's from the movies.

    Clubs and Activities

Troy University doesn't have a list of activities as far as i can see so you have to basically look around campus for the flyers that clubs put out in order to know what clubs are out there. But most clubs actually take field trips and do very fun things.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for small town loving students that don't like the hustle and bustle of big campuses.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you plan on going to a football game, be prepared to sing the troy anthem lol.

    Bang for the buck

College tuition is the cheapest you will find anywhere but I feel there is a certain character missing to the overall campus.

    What to do for fun

There is something going on everyday. We receive an email every morning of activities going on around campus.

    Food and Dining

We have something called the TC which stands for the Trojan Center and its the best place to get food. Go to the Chinese restaurant because they have the best food.

    Dorm Life

I don't personally live in the dorms but a lot of my friends do. They have said horrible things like roach infestations and unclean bathrooms.

    Academic Rigor

First semester i made a 3.3. If You have a study ethic then you will do just fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs! It is the best way to meet new friends in an intimate setting. I personally don't like to make friends in a crowd so i went to small clubs like Environmental Science and Anthropology Club to make friends

    In three sentences

Troy University has an overall friendly small town setting where it is not hard to make friends. I personally enjoy attending Troy University due to it's diverse students, caring teachers, and great student activities.

Great for these types of students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each organization on campus has it's own traditions that they only share among their members.

    Bang for the buck

Cheapest tuition for the quality of education in any of the surrounding area of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida that I have personally found. Even offer in state tuition to any applicants that live within a 250 mile radius from the university.

    What to do for fun

Troy has a small interactive zoo, a nature hiking trail, dollar movies every first and third Wednesday of the month, and constant events from our University Activities Counsel.

    Food and Dining

Food is readily available and plenty of places to eat outside of campus food.

    Dorm Life

Good campus life and guaranteed living space for incoming freshman.

    Academic Rigor

Really encourages personal drive for academic growth and most professors are willing to work with you if you show you are trying and care about your grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your financial aid information at the office and be persistent with the faculty and staff. They can and will help you but you have to show that you care before they will.

    In three sentences

Troy is a very impressive school with wonderful staff and a really encouraging atmosphere. It is competitive but not to the point of stressing out it's students and it offers many opportunities to returning students. The campus is also physically appealing due to the campus being small enough to walk to any class within 10 minutes and the gardens and tress add a calming atmosphere for studying and relaxing after classes.

Great for these types of students

Parents, or career people. Someone that cannot afford to miss time from their home or job to attend on-campus classes.

    Bang for the buck

    Very convenient!

    What to do for fun

With online classes, you have the ease and convenience of taking the classes on your home computers during your daily down time. This leaves you available as you ordinarily would be to do the things you love to do! You are not committed to a specific day/time to be in a class, and can choose to attend any time of day that fits in with your schedule - its great for the working person with dependents!

    Food and Dining

This also does not apply as I don't live, or attend, on campus.

    Dorm Life

This does not apply as my husband and I own our own home off campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't think that because it's online that you're not help accountable. Not being in a class and face to face with others is very challenging, but very rewarding at the completion of the term.

    In three sentences

The staff is wonderful and helpful and the programs well planned and easy to follow. I am attending the eTroy accelerated program (9 week terms instead of 15 week semesters) which the professors keep fun, yet challenging! Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no general traditions out of the ordinary - most unique rituals are confined to fraternities and sororities.

    Bang for the buck

Just as with almost any other college, the cost of higher education is fairly steep, and only those with full sport or academic scholarships will earn their degree debt-free.

    What to do for fun

Most entertainment options are limited to various campus activities, such as sporting events, musical performances, theater performances, guest speakers and entertainers, and other university-sponsored events.

    Food and Dining

Dining options include a daily variety of entrees from the Stewart Dining Hall (more commonly called SAGA), A&W, Einstein's Bagles, Sub Connection, Mein Bowl, and Chick-fil-A.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are hit and miss. The worst dorms look like prisons, but they are the cheapest. The nicer dorms are cleaner, but they cost way too much money to live in. Oh, and there isn't much choice when it comes to roommates.

    Academic Rigor

Every major and course has its own set of challenges (as does each professor), but in my opinion, the most difficult study areas are those within the John M. Long School of Music and the nursing program.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you GO TO CLASS and DO YOUR WORK! The assignments typically aren't that difficult - it's just a matter of having the discipline to take care of business before playtime. Also, find something to be involved in beyond your classes. There are lots of different organizations on campus, each of which offers something the others don't, so find what you like and become involved.

    In three sentences

Troy University has the unique advantage of having the opportunities of a large university combined with the atmosphere of a small college. Professors here at Troy get to know their students on a first name basis - every student is a person, not a number. Unfortunately, there is very little to do within the city of Troy itself because it's in the middle of nowhere, so the students and faculty do their best to maintain a constant schedule of campus activities to keep things lively.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Trojan Village dorms. They were beautiful and spacey with individual rooms for each occupant. It was a very nice introduction to college because it wasn't quite as large of a culture shock.

Dorm life is not for everyone. Some people prefer Trojan Village over every other dorm on campus. I, however, did not stay on campus my first year and will not be on campus any other years to come. The apartment that I live in does have roommates and I love them.

    Academic Rigor

The work is a little harder than high school, but the teachers are there to help. Each teacher that I have come across has been willing to help and explain the work that I was confused on. There are also tutors on campus that are free and extremely helpful.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should be prepared to have that away from home experience that includes responsibilities, self-discipline, and time management. This experience can be somewhat stressful, but there are many different people and groups around campus that can help you with that. The work can sometimes be overwhelming, but it is no reason to give up. If you have a strong mind and do not procrastinate, this will be a breeze.

Troy is great for students who aren't look for that really fast pasted huge college lifestyle. It is big enough to be a college but small enough that you see someone you have seen before every day.

    What to do for fun

Now troy is not that big so there is not much to do on campus. My advice is to find you a good group of friends and make your own fun. The experience at troy is about what you make it.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is also decent. There is a big dining hall along with on campus restaurants.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is good IF you stay in any dorm other than alumni ( being torn down this semester ) or hamil.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is really decent I have had no major problems with it besides the fact that some of the professors are foreign and can be hard to understand.

    Campus Safety

The campus seems to pretty safe in my opinion. There's a campus police station and I always see the patrol cars randomly passing by or sitting watching certain areas. They seem to always be in the area nearby and I've never experienced any feelings of being unsafe.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about the Greek life yet but I believe they do have some Greek sororities and fraternities. I've met a few girls in my classes that have said they're pretty selective about having a high GPA. I would say it's good for someone who can balance several different things well.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm not sure what kind of clubs and activities the school offers yet. I do have a friend that told me about the Christian group on campus that does a lot of fun activities though. They're supposed to be going to a camp this summer and going to the beach as well.

Great for these types of students

I've only gotten a taste of nursing school since I've only had one nursing class but I can tell it's going to be difficult and challenging, so anyone who likes a challenge would love this school's program.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's this awesome historical replica of a statue on campus. I don't know too much about the traditions yet. The landscaping is beautiful. There are rose bushes everywhere and giant magnolia trees. It's definitely a comforting atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

I honestly think it's too expensive, but I'm sure most people can say that about college tuition. The teachers definitely don't just throw book work at you for what you pay though, Everyone I've encountered actually thoroughly teaches the material and if I've ever asked further of them they're always willing to offer any advice and help that they can allow.

    What to do for fun

There's a movie theater not too far from the campus and there's also a church group adjacent to the campus. There's plenty to do but I wouldn't say there's too much to do immediately near the campus. There's more in the Montgomery area which is only a 30 minute drive from the campus.

    Food and Dining

I haven't tried anything out at the cafeteria on campus yet, but I can definitely say it's beautiful. They also have a patio if you would prefer to eat outside. I've heard mixed reviews from other people regarding the food though so I'd rather try it out for myself first.

    Dorm Life

I can't say I know anything about dorm life since I'm a commuter and when I go in the fall I plan on staying in an apartment. From what I heard they have a pretty good dorm situation, but I would just prefer to live in an apartment.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken are tough but they definitely teach you something. If you're taking summer classes they are very fast paced. Learn as much as you can before taking the class. If you can get a head start of any kind by going online and viewing the syllabus I would say go for it.

    Tips for prospective students

Take the classes seriously, especially any science/nursing related classes. They're unlike any classes I've ever taken and not to be underestimated. Save your money and spend it wisely. Time management is also key. Have fun, but realize that your decisions now determine your future.

    In three sentences

This is a great school. The classes are tough but fair. It has the prettiest campus I've ever seen.
