Great for these types of students

Anyone who is strapped for cash and wants to be in a great environment for learning.

    Tips for prospective students

TMCC isn't a very hard school to get into and if you take it seriously you will learn so much. Register early so you can get the classes you want. Don't be afraid to use the tutoring center, its completely free and there for the students.

    Bang for the buck

TMCC is ridiculous cheap, especially for the amazing services they provide. Most services are free, tutoring, printing, library services, academic advisement. My English teacher actually said she had never worked for a school that was such a bargain.

    Am enjoying being here

While I was attending I found out about a school competition called TMCC Idol. I got talked into trying out and not only got in, but got second place in the competition. I had so much fun! The school really invites you in and everywhere you go your surrounded by great people.

    Am learning a lot

I had dreams of going to a giant college. In my senior year I destroyed my chances by failing math. I was devastated. TMCC was really my only option. My first day I walked in with the attitude of pessimism and negativism. I was so so surprised by the calibre of the teachers and the atmosphere of learning that surrounded the college. I learned more my first week there then I did throughout high school. I continue to be excited about what I'm going to learn each day.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who has time, motivation, and needs a college that is not extremely expensive.

    Tips for prospective students

Read the description of the class before you register for it. Listen to what other students say about teachers. See if you can figure out what teacher fits you type of learning because sometimes there is more than one teacher, but they teach differently. Register as early as you can to get the classes you want or need. Based on the teachers I have had so far, they are understanding and will try to help you as much as they can.

    Bang for the buck

The pricing is not bad for a community college. I got a lot of knowledge out of it, and it is probably just as good as some other expensive colleges.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because I like small colleges. It is not a giant campus, but there is more than one. The only problem I face is being young in a community college can be intimidating. A lot of older people go to community colleges, so there is not a lot of young people around. I am not saying being older is bad, but personally I feel intimidated with me being 17 and the majority being, estimated, over 25 years old.

    Am learning a lot

Getting out of high school I did not learn a lot and was confused in many subjects. This college helped me learn even the most basic concepts that I did not understand in high school.

Great for these types of students

People who can do most of the stuff on their own and have a lot of time.

    Tips for prospective students

Ask follow students about the teachers and also go onto rate your professor.com it will help you not get the bad teachers.

    Bang for the buck

Not a bad price for a community college

    Did enjoy being here

It would have been better if there was more places to sit and more study groups going on

    Did learn a lot

I really depends on how much your teacher knows. Sometimes they tended to ramble on about anything dealing with their personal lives.

    What to do for fun

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms here.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging if they are chosen carefully.

    Tips for prospective students

It is a great college, but be prepared to do a lot of your own planning. It is absolutely necessary to take charge and responsibility for every aspect of your education here, because nobody will be holding your hand.

    In three sentences

The teachers are generally great, the facilities are even better. The website is good when it is running, and the customer support is usually good. The organization and administration are difficult to navigate.

    Bang for the buck

cheapest in the area. i had to take a class at unr, because tmcc was remodeling their laboratories and boy did i pay for that class. at tmcc a class (depending on how many credits) is roughly around $220. i paid close to $800 at unr for one class!!!

    Tips for prospective students

do your homework with regards to the program you are seeking a degree in. an advisor can help you but ultimately it is your responsibility to verify the information given to you is correct. this is a great school with great people, great professors, decent prices and very flexible for any schedule. i would highly recommend.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety at Truckee Meadows Community college is incredible! When I take night classes there is always an officer available to walk anyone to their cars. There are also officers that patrol the parking lots day and night.

    Greek Life

I am unaware of any Greek life at Truckee Meadows Community college. It would have been kind of cool if there was somewhat of one because it would have made me actually want to participate in something more at this school. If there is any sort of Greek life the school did not do a great job of advertising for it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs at Truckee Meadows Community college. I; unfortunately, did not make the time to join and/or participate in any. None of them that were heavily advertised really caught my eye.

Great for these types of students

I have been at Truckee Meadows Community College for some time now and I have seen just about every type of student there. It is really nice that this school does incorporate their high school with some select college courses as well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Even though this campus is not the largest it is very convenient because there is more than one location. There are several locations around Reno and they all offer an immense selection of classes.

    Food and Dining

At the main campus there are several vending machines all over each building. Along with all of the machines there is a cafeteria that has a lot of healthy choices and a great variety.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life what-so-ever at Truckee Meadows Community College. I would have liked if the school did have dorms or a connection with a nearby apartment complex. This would have been more convenient that driving 30+ minutes to the campus four days a week,.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes are more structured that others and those are the ones that I personally feel students succeed more in. Truckee Meadows has a lot of instructors that seem to have no more than a High School or Middle School teaching back ground.

    Tips for prospective students

Truckee Meadows Community College has some excellent programs and if you do some research on the classes and instructors you will do no more than succeed if you have that mind set. The times for the classes could not be more convenient there are classes that are in class and hands on along with on-line.

    In three sentences

Even though Truckee Meadows Community College is just a junior college it does have its positives. It is a beautiful, safe and well taken care of campus with many different locations. I would recommend attending a junior college for any if not all prerequisites before attending to a University, I did this and I feel I saved money and got some good education.

    Campus Safety

Overall pretty safe campus, procedures are in place for this, campus police seem to stay on top of things. Have never had any problems and have only heard of 2 incidents of anything happening in my years there. Never felt unsafe as a student.

    Greek Life

    unknown

Great for these types of students

The school is still geared more toward the fresh out of high school student population even though a good percentage of students are those returning to school in later years. Class schedules and course work can be hard do around working and other life responsibilities.

    Bang for the buck

Even with increases in tuition due to budget cuts, it is still more affordable than the few other college options we have here. We are extremely limited, with only this community college, a university and a few technical schools. Better to do as much of your education here, than pay much higher fees.

    What to do for fun

I never really had time to be involved in the social end of school much, they seem to have different groups etc. to join and hold some things for students if that is what you are into. They have a fitness center for students use and an array of elective courses. All in what you have time for and are looking for.

    Food and Dining

Although they have a cafeteria, I have never eaten there so I cannot rate this. I have heard it is decent.

    Dorm Life

    No dorm here.

    Academic Rigor

This depends entirely on the course and the individual instructor. Many courses are extremely easy and self explanatory as long as you keep up with the work, others are very difficult. Each instructor has their own style and requirements. Some classes you will pay for and feel like you are teaching yourself, others are great and you come away knowing you have learned a lot. It also depends on the student, their learning styles, abilities and dedication.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research and stay current on what is going on with you degree choices. Attend orientations regularly and read the online catalog each semester, it is the only way to find out what changes are happening. Most of the advisers/staff aren't sure of what is happening to adequately advise students. Check and double check the information and always have plan B.

    In three sentences

A once great school to attend, TMCC currently has a low morale and a lot of dissatisfaction among the student population. Recent changes in policies, academic programs, and accreditation issues has many students unable to finish degree programs and scrambling for other options after spending years paying for/attending classes. Students continue to be misinformed/given inaccurate information and never know of program changes etc. until the last minute.

Truckee Meadows has onsite security. and a very effective notification system for alerts on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

TMCC has many clubs to join. Most clubs are highly active on campus and in the community with great faculty leaders to assist. Examples of clubs are; student government, Phi Theta Kappa chapter or the international honor society (By invite only based on academics) Entrepreneurship club.

Great for these types of students

Students just out of high school ready to dive into shaping their future, and older students who work while attending school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The back side of the campus offers a great birds eye view of the cities Reno and Sparks.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of attending this school are significantly low for the area. The education quality is not the greatest but if you apply yourself and work hard, this school can prepare you for attending a university.

    What to do for fun

For fun on campus there are often events in the student center. The campus is located on top of a mountain a few miles away from everything.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafe on campus that is run by culinary students. The hours of operation are limited, and the food is not very great. Also, a small coffee stand also with very limited hours. Most food consumed on campus comes from the vending machines.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor depends on the instructor. Some instructors are very stern and others are more laid back. There are not many campus wide education policies.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work hard on your own, and be in control of your learning. With the budget cuts the school has many new teachers, who are adjusting to new positions and subjects, it is helpful to read your chapters before attending class so you know where you are struggling beforehand. Use college professor rating websites to view reviews on teachers prior to choosing classes.

    In three sentences

The education quality has suffered from budget cuts. This college is a great way to save money on your associates degree prior to attending a university. Overall the school strives to be committed to students given the current economic climate.

There are only three buildings on the main campus (but there are a total of five loacted throughout Reno). It is a beautiful campus nestled right in the hills overlooking downtown Reno. You can actually see all of Reno Sparks from the quad. Wonderful environment.

    Bang for the buck

I was surprised at how reasonable it is. To complete my transfer degree it will cost approximately $6,000 for two years (fall, spring, and summer courses) - which works out to about $1,100 per term.

    What to do for fun

The Reno-Tahoe area has many festivals, events, and outdoor activities (summer and winter). Whatever you enjoy doing, you can do it here. Reno/Sparks is relatively small - so getting to the other end of town is a quick drive. Skiing in Tahoe is as little as 30-45 minutes away. The Rib Cookoff, Great Reno Balloon Races, downtown festivals every weekend during summer - the possibilities are endless.

    Food and Dining

Culinary program on campus. Excellent restaurant and cafeteria.

    Academic Rigor

The majority of classes are geared toward an associates degree or for transfer to UNR. Depending on the class and the instructor it can be challenging. Web-based courses are difficult in that they are not work at your own pace - you have to be very disciplined in order to take them.

    Tips for prospective students

Complete all of the required new student steps and take a tour. I found out so much even though I had taken a class here and there over the years. They offer so many differnt things - counseling, gym, tutoring - I was amazed.

    In three sentences

Beautiful campus with a diverse student body. Several web based classes online which is great for adult/non-traditional students. Cost of tuition per semester is very reasonable - four classes $1200.

    Campus Safety

Compared to the University of Nevada Reno crime is practically non-existent. Because there are no housing communities nearby you don't have to worry about drug dealers or meth heads. As always be careful at night because when classes get out at 10pm the campus can seem abandoned.

    Greek Life

    NONE.

    Clubs and Activities

There really aren't that many clubs and activities on campus. That's fine because there are so many people who work. But even then there aren't too many student activities.

Great for these types of students

If you work and go to school then this is a great place to go. It's not going to hit you in the wallet and the schedules are flexible. Evening classes can fill up so register early.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There aren't any.

    Bang for the buck

TMCC is a fabulous value. It's cheap and the instructors are really good. In fact on average the instruction is better than at a four year school. I would recommend getting your general education requirements at TMCC to everyone. Parking is rough between 9am and 3pm. However the parking situation isn't nearly as bad when compared to the University Of Nevada-Reno.

    What to do for fun

It's Reno so there's skiing in the winter and riverside kayaking in the summer. On campus there are a few clubs but I wouldn't exactly call them fun. There are no hobby clubs for example.

    Food and Dining

The only thing really worth getting are the made to order burgers and the chicken strips. Everything else is on an eat-as-hunger-dictates basis. Still I won't complain. It's a community college.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, but you can find an apartment or rent a house with a group of people. If you can pull that off then living expenses will be quite cheap.

    Academic Rigor

If you do work you will succeed. Unfortunately not everyone will be able to do that because they work or have kids.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out rate my professor to see who some of the more highly rated instructors are. Even the mediocre professors want you to succeed. And join an extracurricular activity if you're not working. It will improve your academic performance.

    In three sentences

The instructors at Truckee Meadows really let you know that they care about helping the students get to the next level of their education. Whether it's because the instructors have a zest for life or if it's because most of them are only part time and can be fired at any moment: the results are obvious that the people there want the students to succeed. Truckee Meadows is a wonderful educational facility and I wish it were a four year school.

The Campus feels very safe. There is a Police Station right on site. The Police monitor the streets to the college and patrol the parking lot all of the time. I have never felt any threat there at all. The area is well lit and does not stretch so far away from the buildings that you feel alone. The Officers are very visible.

    Greek Life

It's all Greek to me! I do not know of any on the community college side. The students would have to check up on that.

    Clubs and Activities

I do not attend any clubs or activities do to schedule. There are a great many I have learned about through teacher announcements in class, however. Every week there is a club like the Entrepreneur club or Art club meeting . There are exhibits and functions for every club formed. All a student has to do is look up their interests, be it politics, dance or business, there is a club for them.

Great for these types of students

Any student can attend TMCC. There is no age limit. Their are students as young as 18 and as old as 75. Everyone is welcome and never has been made to feel out of place. People looking to start an education for a reasonable price will all find their education can begin here. It does not matter what age or ethnic origin. As long as the course catalog contains the classes needed, any type of student is capable of attending.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I do not know of any unusual traditions or locations. The school is at the top of a hill. The hill can be tough in the winter, but that is the only time location comes into play. The hill is usually cleared of snow (if there is any) by nine.

    Bang for the buck

Truckee Meadows is a pleasant environment and easily navigated campus. It offers a great many on line and on site classes for a reasonable price. It enables many students that cannot afford an education elsewhere, a good education at an economical price. The diversification of classes allows those of us that work, an opportunity to attend night classes as well. This school saves thousands at the Associate level.

    What to do for fun

If you have a little time and enjoy the gym there is a very good opportunity to work out at the gym on site. The fees are reasonable and it is easy to locate. If the outdoors are what works for you, there is a jogging-exercise trail that circles the campus. Socially there is always an art exhibit or a club gathering of some sort happening in the main hall, just below the cafeteria. Everyday there is an organization that has an informational gathering. Time can always be filled if a diversion from study is needed.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at Tmcc has done very well to accommodate the long hours students will be in school. Even night classes have until seven o'clock to have dinner before class. The food has a great variety. There is always hot pizza, a great salad bar, yogurt, juices, and a grill that is open until seven as well. There is a deli where sandwiches can be made fresh that is open through late afternoon. There is always something to eat. On the coffee side, there is a large array of coffee, tea, and hot water with all the extras. You really don't have to leave campus.

    Dorm Life

I am a forty-three year old single mom and owner of a business. I go to school and return to work or home. I have no knowledge of the dorm life. I don't know if the Community colleges provide that.

    Academic Rigor

I believe TMCC to be firm in its stance of a good education. The teachers are difficult but not expecting things that students are not capable of doing. The education received here will be something that can be carried forward to a higher level and the students will be prepared.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are just returning to school after a long hiatus, or starting right after high-school, there are many services available to you. I would recommend visiting the counselor for assistance for any guidance you may need for deciding a career. The staff is willing to assist you with goals that you may wish to achieve. Often times college is overwhelming and these people can help students make it through life troubles or simply college overload. They have been very helpful in directing me to different centers for learning assistance and for direction in what steps to take next for each semester. The skills center is very important as well. It doesn't matter what age or subject, the center is there for you five days a week. It is a tremendous tool for assistance in any subject you are taking. The tutors are very patient and always helpful.

    In three sentences

The residents of Nevada are very lucky to have Truckee Meadows community College (TMCC) in the state, A+ in rating! There is a great trail that you can walk or jog on for exercise! Off campus sites also are great places to go if you cannot make it to the main college or prefer more peace and quiet. The tutoring and learning center is also a great location that many students don't take the opportunity to utilize.

    Bang for the buck

TMCC is an amazing system of higher education. In recent years they have made great lengths to be one of two in the nation that offer a renewable energy program. The school is also committed to improving its own energy efficiency with the insulation of solar panels and wind turbines. Make sure that you purchase textbooks online or at Textbook Brokers the campus bookstore is contracted and has high prices. I also recommend renting them online if you don't plan to look at the book or use it for reference in the future. The price for classes is not to bad, but sadly rising. I was just part of a committee that did acquire students reduce public transportation fare. :D

    What to do for fun

For fun people should get involved with clubs and student government activities. Take advantage in department student contests that offer free classes or tuition for contest winners. Off campus there are a lot of activities in the Reno Tahoe area to take advantage of.

There are only a couple of on campus spots to get food. There is the cafe that offers full services for lunch and breakfast, and an additional coffee stand that offers some snacks and drinks. Be familiar with the TMCC Financial Aid Department so that you stay up to date on scholarship information and opportunities. prospective students should also introduce themselves to executive faculty because any faculty or staff is ready and willing to provide a recommendation should you ever need one. Students who have not taken school in some years or have ACT SAT scores should be prepared to take the entry Accuplacer Test so that TMCC knows your education level and where you should start. Do not procrastinate and wait till it is to late to enroll or you can get overwhelmed. Pay attention in orientation, and use the online tutoring if you have online classes.

Any time I hear something about someone getting injured or something getting stolen at TMCC, it is usually a hoax. Campus police make their rounds every half hour or so.

    Clubs and Activities

I have only seen a few clubs, and they are mostly for the arts. But what they come out with can be amazing to read and view.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to save some cash by taking most of their courses here, and the rest at their preferred college. Students who are getting back into the swing of things, students who aren't sure about college, and students who are more interested in getting certificates than degrees.

Never take an elevator on the Red Mountain Campus. You can, but they are creepy, small, and evil.

    What to do for fun

There are always events going on, you just have to check the website to see what is going on. There are also some nifty clubs to join.

    Food and Dining

The cafe in the Red Mountain Building has awesome food, although the food isn't cheap, it is worth it. The vending machines are always stalked up too.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in a dorm, so I wouldn't know about this one. Although I have heard that the school has a dorm, but I am not very sure about that.

    Tips for prospective students

A little on the expensive side.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are definitely college level, but some seem to be almost high-school curriculum.

    Tips for prospective students

There aren't any unusual traditions or locations besides the little area where all the smokers get together and smoke but I'm sure all schools have that little unusual area.

    What to do for fun

We have a gym. And clubs that I haven't really looked into... hmm. Other than that there isn't really anything else I can think of for fun on TMCC's campus. Unless you consider academia fun. There's a bunch of that. Aside from those things- downtown Reno, skiing, snowboarding, Lake Tahoe, the Truckee river, and general outdoor activities are located in a reasonably close proximity to TMCC campus. So that's fun.

    Food and Dining

    Meh.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life either sucks or is really awesome. It all really depends on your viewpoint though, because the dorms here don't exist.

    Academic Rigor

Ok, here is something worth mentioning as well- for the academic aspect, there are a lot of classes that are easy and bland if you just follow the syllabus and don't really participate in class. But if you are genuinely passionate about a subject and really want to further your understanding maybe even more so than what the book or course curriculum may offer, the professors here really help out a lot. It's nice to have a class where the teacher is passionate about teaching the subject just as much as the student is in learning.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a great place to start if you want to go to UNR. It has cheaper tuition and most programs have easy transfer agreements for a Bachelors at UNR.

    In three sentences

The academic aspect of TMCC is awesome. You really do learn a lot from professors who are passionate about the subjects they are teaching. It is a great place to learn a little more closely than you would at a university, due to the smaller classes and uncrowded tutoring centers.

There are tons of things and activities offered by the college such as conducting different school fairs - job fairs, science fairs, book fairs and etc.

    Food and Dining

Needs more healthy food in the menu.

    Dorm Life

Great for these types of students

For students who want to explore different degrees. Maybe start out with your general classes until you know what you want to do. It is also great for students who want to save money by going to a Junior College instead of a University.

    Bang for the buck

When I started college back in 2002, I think it was $150 for a 3 credit class. Now it is only 253.5 for a 3 credit class, which isn't bad compared to UNR.

    What to do for fun

You can sign up for the Phi Beta Lambda or Phi Theta Kappa. You can also involve yourself in some other clubs. You can take a theater/acting class, art class, or dance class for fun.

    Food and Dining

Lots of good vending machines; never ate at the cafeteria.

    Academic Rigor

The only thing I would advise is to attend all class sessions if you can. TMCC has strict policy on attendance. You can only miss a class four times, after that the teacher will drop or flunk you from the class.

    Tips for prospective students

Get there early to get a good parking space. Make sure you register for classes on time and not at the last minute. If you wait until the last minute to register, the classes that you want will be filled up, and you would have to check back to see if anyone dropped out of the class. Get familiar with buildings. You don't want to run around looking for the right building and classroom on your first day. Take advantage of the writing lab and the tutors there. Check with your school counselor often to make sure you are on the right path with your classes.

    In three sentences

TMCC is great! I loved it there. There is cafeteria, areas with lots of couches and tables, a lot of computer labs; in the library if there isn't any computer space, you can bring your own computer or rent one. Good teachers, helpful tutors, etc. I loved the writing lab; very helpful.

    What to do for fun

TMCC has lots of different clubs, and art shows that you can do for fun.

    Food and Dining

TMCC has a cafeteria that is very fresh and good. That is the only place for food on campus besides vending machines.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately TMCC doesn't offer any on campus living, however, there are many apartments close to the campus.

    Academic Rigor

TMCC is very challenging, yet very achievable. They have a tutoring center and all of the professors usually have office hours where you can go meet with them.

    Tips for prospective students

Any prospective students looking to go to TMCC, I would suggest taking a tour of the campus. What's nice about TMCC is that they also have a high school integrated into their college program. They offer many different associates degrees.

    In three sentences

TMCC is a very friendly place for local students looking to succeed. The staff is very helpful and all of the teachers are there to help you to achieve your goal. I would highly recommend TMCC for anyone still deciding what path they want to go on in life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are 23 clubs and organizations on campus, to name a few: PTK (honor society), Native American Club, Sports club, Toast Masters club, and so much more. All the clubs work under the SGA.

Great for these types of students

TMCC is great for the working student, also those with family or both. There is a daycare on campus run by students whose major is early childhood development and there are classes to fit almost any scheduled.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On campus in the Red Mountain Building there care long benches and table. This one of the most comfortable and common hangout places on campus. This is also were most major events are held. The SGA office also located in the Red Mountain building has computers set up for any student and all are encouraged to come and get to know their representatives.

    Bang for the buck

You get what you pay for and then some. The staff support students and do what they can to make the experience as informational and smooth as possible.

    What to do for fun

There are 23 clubs on campus that very from academic to sports. There are several activities during the year that are easy to participate in.

    Food and Dining

The Cafeteria has great food if a little pricey. From junk food to healthy they have a large verity to choose from.

    Academic Rigor

Students are treated fairly and justly. They have the ability to appeal any grade they do not feel is accurate and they are treated with respect and perfectionism.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your SGA and representatives. Be aware of your professors office hours and don't be afraid to get a hold of your teachers. Get involved in at least one club or organization.

Has an amazing staff who care about their students and help in anyway they can, even sacrificing personal time. Has a sincere SGA who interact with students and throw awesome events. Has a beautiful campus that the students take pride in.

Overall, TMCC has been an excellent community college to attend to. The reason why they have been such an excellent school is because of the professors, the classes, and the students. The education being taught at TMCC as helped me become a better student overall.

I think there's an honor society. I haven't joined yet because you have to be invited, and although I am currently eligible, it's my first semester so I couldn't be a part of it. No opinion because I haven't been a part of Greek life.

Great for these types of students

If you aren't a snob about community college, take your education seriously, and are on a budget, this school is fantastic.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Can't think of any.

    Bang for the buck

You get a fantastic education for your money and a lot of free resources on campus, such as free notary and tutoring services.

    What to do for fun

There are often events on campus. One time on my way to class, there was just a water balloon fight, free hot dogs, other delicious FREE food out in the quad. There's quite a few clubs, too. Although I haven't joined any, they look like a lot of fun. A lot of kids play Magic the Gathering in the Red Mountain Building, too. It's pretty cool.

    Food and Dining

Patty melts here are amazing! I'd also highly recommend the rice and beans. Whether by itself or as a combo. And the breakfast sandwich is really good, too. Also, there are a lot of events on campus that are catered to by the culinary department. Either the food is open for anyone, or it is open for a specific group, such as when there was a celebration just for student workers. However, they NEVER finish all of it. So once the event is over, there is just a table of perfectly good free food waiting for people like me to ravage ti.

    Dorm Life

No dorms. Just how I like it.

    Academic Rigor

The instructors here take their classes seriously. They work you pretty hard, but they are understanding and helpful if there are concepts you're having trouble getting, at least in my experience. Just pay attention, work hard, and you'll do great.

    Tips for prospective students

Most instructors take attendance. Don't miss class. Constantly communicate with your instructors if you're like me, and you miss a lot of class. They will cut you a break if you are on top of your work, email work to them when you are sick, and explain your situation to them.

    In three sentences

Love it. A lot of the instructors here are also instructors at UNR, so you are getting the same education for a much more affordable cost. Nice campus, lots of resources to help students, particularly the Tutoring and Learning Center. Really enjoyed my instructors. The only thing I don't like is that many, many instructors actually take attendance. It's hard for me because, even while I get As on assignments and keep a high grade in classes, I often get sick. I like classes that care more about what you turn in and less about how often you are there. Overall, great school. Cafeteria serves really good patty melts, too. I'd recommend going here.

    What to do for fun

Occasionally there are seasonal or club related events. For example, around Halloween there was a display of creatively decorated pumpkins ranging from carved creatures to large burgers.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a limited variety for anyone seeking to eat healthy (which is VERY expensive, comparatively).

    Academic Rigor

Varies from teacher to teacher and course to course. Overall (excluding the rare exceptions) the course work meets the necessary dedication needed to understand the main points of the subject, without belaboring unnecessary details.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The campus police are very helpful! There's a main office on the second floor and emergency towers located on every aisle of the parking lots. If you want an escort to your car, if you take night places, they will gladly do it and check the surroundings of your car for any tampering before allowing you to get in and drive off.

    Food and Dining

The main campus cafe is one of the best I've eaten! Quality food prepared by the Culinary Art majors and for a good price, you can't go wrong!

    Dorm Life

TMCC has apartments nearby that they rent out to students, but you're better off finding a better place in town, or live at home until you graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

Introduce yourself to the teachers on day one and keep in contact. Sit in the front of the class (most teachers don' t have assigned seating, so pick a good spot!)

    In three sentences

If you're not quite ready to go from high school to a 4 year university or are planning on returning to school, TMCC is the perfect place to start! The classes are less than 30 students, teachers are very friendly and helpful, and the main campus has an all around warm, welcome feeling.

Great for these types of students

Great for High School program students who want a serious education; some courses even are applied towards your degree. They offer over 40 programs of study that lead to more than 100 degrees. Very affordable for your non traditional student.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is low, no parking permit fee needed, bus system from the local area has a designated climate control room to wait in. For the price and services offered they represent a university not a community college.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria is open late in the evening and also on Saturday.

    Dorm Life

    No Dorm

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

TMCC demonstrates leadership, opportunity, confident professors, excellent free tutoring center, academic advisement, computer labs, library services, Bio Chemistry classes, and facilities comparable to the local University. I am a first-generation college student in their 40s. TMCC has made this dream come true from staff by helping me excel with numerous opportunities despite any obstacles and challenges that are present to me.
