Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students you like being able to have a closer relationship with their teachers will like Truman because of it's small classes. Those you are interested in various topics or might not be sure what they want to major in can take classes which will help them decide. There is very little pressure to be sure of your career immediately. The campus itself is not very large either, walking it takes about 10-15 minutes to get across, so getting to class on time if you don't have a car is hardly ever problematic.
Tips for prospective students Truman is a small school, this makes the classes small also (about 20-30 people). Kirksville is not a big city however and this is off-putting for many people, but the campus makes up for this because there is so much to participate in. I doubt you will find yourself bored.
Bang for the buck Truman is a very cheap for the education you receive there. The teachers are helpful and knowledgeable in their fields and if you feel you are not getting enough help from them, other teachers that you might not have are willing to assist.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do on campus, there is always an activity or club to join.
Am learning a lot There is a wide selection of classes to choose from and while it is sometimes difficult to get into a desired class there are many more options open. The smaller class sizes really allow you to interact better with your teacher and so get more out of a class.

Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships!!
Bang for the buck Truman is a very reasonably priced school for the type of education you are receiving and the type of actives the school provides. It's the self proclaimed Harvard of the Midwest and it's affordable. Truman also provides students with plenty of scholarship opportunities before you even attend school there.
Am enjoying being here You might think that a college located in a small town is not your ideal college setting. But you may be surprised by how many activities Truman provides for its students. There is always something happening. Truman wants you to be involved! Just because Kirksville is a small town doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do, on campus anyway.
Am learning a lot The academic programs at this school are so vast it’s almost hard to pick which class you want to take. That also means that when you don’t get into the class you wanted that there are still plenty other options to choose from. The professors are engaging and helpful and if you don’t understand something about the lesson they are more than willing to work with you after class hours. There are also programs set up to help you if you are struggling in a class or if you just want to get that A.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that like an academic challenge, apply here. Students that want a close student-teacher relationship would be excellent fit here. Also students who aren't quite sure what they want to do in school will succeed here due to the Liberal Arts Program having students take various courses in different disciplines.
Tips for prospective students Apply for Scholarships, although Truman is typically generous in awarding incoming freshmen with scholarships, always apply for additional aid. I also advise students to prepare for rigorous coursework. Truman lives up to it's reputation as being the #1 public institution in the Midwest.
Bang for the buck For the quality of education you receive from Truman you'd think you'd be paying $15,000 or more per year, however Truman's tuition is currently under $7,000 per year for instate students.
Am enjoying being here Although Truman is located in a Small town up north, it typifies the quote big things come in small packages. The campus life is so rich and involved with students being more than friendly.
Am learning a lot The Academic Programs that Truman has are top of the line. The teachers here truly care more about the students than their paychecks. They are willing to work with students on an one-on-one basis to help you succeed. The Liberal Arts Education Program that Truman has, ensures that students will be well rounded, and learn from a multitude of disciplines.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's a great school for students that want to be challenged academically. Your skills will improve whether you want them to or not. My writing has improved greatly since I started going to Truman. I love it up there.
Tips for prospective students Expect to work. This is not high school and your professor's will make sure you know that. However, that does not mean that they're not going to help you if you don't need it. You should talk to them if you're having issues in their class, and if you don't want to go to them for help, you can always go to one of the tutoring centers or find an upperclassman that has taken the class before. Also go to the Activities Fair. It is held around the second week of classes and you can see all of the organizations that are present at Truman. I can guarantee you will find one that attracts your interest.
Bang for the buck Truman is extremely cheap. Depending what dorm you live in, total cost for living on campus is about $14,000. That includes a meal plan, air conditioning (depending on the dorm), and free use of the recreational center and the pool, if I remember correctly.
Am enjoying being here I love it here. Last year I lived in Ryle, the most recently renovated dorm, and I'm going to be back there again next year, only this time i will be right above the cafeteria. ^^ There are so many things that student activities board provides for the students, like a big concert each semester or comedian performances, in addition to the MANY student organizations. There are many things within walking distance, such as the movie theater, Hidden Treasures, hair salons, restaurants, etc., which is something that I miss quite a bit now that I am at home. The classes are also pretty small, about 20-30 people depending on the subject, so the professor-student interaction is great. Your professor is highly likely to remember your face and then recognize you after you have finished taking their course and sees you walking around.
Am learning a lot It really hits home that this is not high school anymore. Truman is a college that expects you to work for your grade and that's something that I really like about it. The teachers are friendly and accessible. They reply to e-mails asking for help, have office hours where you can randomly drop by and ask questions, and will stop and talk to you if you pass them just walking around the campus.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All types!
Tips for prospective students Immerse yourselves in this school! It's a fantastic school that will provide you with a very well-rounded education. However, getting involved on campus will make your college experience much more enjoyable. There are countless organizations, social fraternities, service fraternities, academic clubs, etc that are easy to join on campus. Getting involved is the fastest way to make friends and to really get the most out of college.
Bang for the buck Oh yes. Truman definitely gives you a BANG for your buck. The price of tuition blew my mind when I first found out. I had heard such great things about the school that I expected the cost to be much higher than what it is. If you're even on the fence about this college, then take into account the price. The teachers are great, it has a beautiful small town atmosphere, the campus in beautiful, and the price was just the cherry on top for me.
Am enjoying being here Without a doubt. I love this school, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. I know a lot of people don't like the fact that Truman is located in Kirksville, MO (and some of you may not even know where that is) but I happen to love the small town feel. It definitely gives me a sense of home and a feeling of safety. In addition, the programs available on campus always have events throughout the week to keep students entertained. Not only that, but I love being here simply because of the people. I have yet to meet a person from Truman State University that I really don't like. Everyone I've met has been kind, respectful, and dedicated.
Am learning a lot Truman State University has some of the best teachers I have had. I'm not saying they're all perfect (there are always a few slackers out there), but the vast majority of teachers here are very dedicated to what they do. When you're sitting in a class you'll easily be able to tell that these teachers are here wholeheartedly to teach you. They want you to understand what they're teaching, and they do everything they can to make sure that happens. In addition, if you're still struggling in the class almost all of them are available outside of class to meet with you to discuss any problems you may experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe there are safety phones throughout campus.
Greek Life I wouldn't know much about greek life.
Clubs and Activities There is so much to join at Truman from sports to student government.
Great for these types of students Studious students that are there to work and have a little fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Train bridge-a bridge over train tracks.
Bang for the buck For the amazing teachers and fantastic classes Truman is incredibly cheap.
What to do for fun There is not much to do in Kirksville, however Truman provides many activities on the weekends and such, I have found enough to do.
Food and Dining The food is not great but the dining halls are nice.
Dorm Life Although Truman does not have much to do around it, the dorm life makes up for it, people are so friendly.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult.
Tips for prospective students College, especially Truman, is much more difficult than high school. It is a lot of work, you have to study.
In three sentences The teachers are fantastic. It is a lot of hard work. It had a good atmosphere.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is great. There are 6 sororities and 14 fraternities. They tend to have the highest GPAs on campus and are always up to something good. Greek life organization join together for Homecoming and Greek Week.
Clubs and Activities There are a bunch of activities and clubs that you can join on campus. There is something for everyone.
Bang for the buck The is a free concert every semester. There a big activites to help you relax for finals including free back massages, henna tattoos, food, shirts, and more. Also, the school offers free tutoring if you need help with any of your classes.
What to do for fun If you join activities or organizations, you will always have something to do. As well as there is always something going on on campus at any time of the year. Free food, concerts, activities on the quad, sports games to go to, and many more. There is always something to do.
Food and Dining There are 3 dining halls on campus, all located in residence halls. The food there is all you can eat for one swipe. Then there is the student union building which has 3 different fast food places, a coffee place, and a frozen yogurt/smoothie place. All of the food on campus is really good.
Dorm Life The dorms are great. You have 2 different types of dorms: Suite style bathrooms and Community style bathrooms. Then there is one dorm with a suite style bathroom, but you get your own living room. The dorms are great.
Academic Rigor Some classes are hard and some classes are easier than the hard classes. Don't come here if you don't want to work for your education. No matter what, you will have time to do other activities.
Tips for prospective students I have 3 tips. 1. If you have an issue in a class, talk to your professor. Professor love getting to know their students. 2. Join an organization or activity. 3. Don't be afraid to meet people. That is how you make friends.
In three sentences Truman State University is a great university. You will enjoy your classes and never be bored. Truman State University is for those who are ready to work hard n to take their education to the next level.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are very active in making sure students are safe. Being on a small campus in a such a small town helps keep safety from being an issue.
Clubs and Activities The clubs at Truman are amazing! There is a large variety of groups that students can join. With so many groups, students can find lots of clubs that they can fit into.
Great for these types of students I have noticed that Truman is a great school for students who are fairly quiet and focused on academics. By being around others with that type of personality, quiet students can find others like themselves.
Bang for the buck Truman is one of the cheapest colleges I have seen. The price of room and board plus tuition is extremely low. On average the cost is around $13,000 a year, which is great for a college that is so focused on academics. Another nice thing is that most activities on campus are free, which is always a nice thing for a college student.
What to do for fun On campus the Student Activities Board always has some kind of event going on to get students involved. In the past there have been movie nights, trivia nights, craft nights, concerts, comedians, and many more. If you get involved in a club of some sort, they always have activities for their members. Off campus there is a lot to do in the small town of Kirksville. There is a movie theater and bowling alley that students go to. Being such a small town, Kirksville also has festivals and various events going on downtown that students often go to. As long as you are creative, there are tons of things to do.
Food and Dining There is not much variety when it comes to food on campus. The cafeterias give you lots of food for your money though. Everything is fairly priced in the convenient stores. A nice aspect of the dining service is that they do have healthy, vegetarian and gluten free options.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Truman is one of my favorite aspects of this college. The community around you is very friendly and helpful. I have made many close friends from living in the dorms. Also, the residence staff makes a strong effort to have exciting activities going on frequently. I liked that aspect because there was always something to do to get involved. The dorms themselves are typical, cozy dorms. Everything is kept clean and stocked. I feel very safe and comfortable in Truman dorms.
Academic Rigor Truman is known for being an academic school. The course work itself is challenging, but it's not impossible. There are plenty of free tutoring resources found around campus that students are encouraged to go to. The tutors and professors care and are very helpful in helping a student understand a difficult concept. Being a liberal arts school, you take a variety of courses that cause you to do a lot more critical thinking. It is tough, but very worth it in the end.
Tips for prospective students For incoming students, I highly recommend that you get involved as much as you can. College is a lot more rewarding and fun when you feel like you have a place where you belong. Getting involved with various groups around Truman's campus gives you the chance to meet more people with similar interests as yourself.
In three sentences Truman is a great school to attend for people interested in a variety of subjects. There are plenty of opportunities for assistance with classes as well as financial aid. While being a great academic school, Truman also provides lots of activities to keep their students involved and busy around campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe; students should not be afraid of walking anywhere alone or after dark. Security patrols occasionally (or so I've heard) and emergency call stations are spread out throughout campus.
Greek Life Greek Life is a little different at Truman; sororities don't have houses and instead each have a hall in one of the dorms. Girls are not usually required to live in these halls, though it's strongly encouraged, as there is typically space for 20-30 women (the avgerage sorority size is over 100). Both fraternities and sororities are a very diluted version of the stereotype, but focus heavily on philanthropy and being involved in other things on campus.
Clubs and Activities Everything! International, religious, sports, book, LARP, and many, many more clubs have a strong presence on campus. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteering or jobs on campus as well.
Great for these types of students Truman is great for all types of students, but it seems like those who are friendly and outgoing tend to have the best time. There's a place for everyone, but shy or really conservative types who don't join anything usually end up transferring.
Bang for the buck Truman is an amazing value; it's consistently ranked as the number one public university in the midwest and tuition for out-of-staters like myself is cheaper than many in-state institutions. It's mainly a liberal arts and sciences college, so it's not really known for any of its colleges, but there are several respected grad school programs available on campus.
What to do for fun Kirksville is quiet but if you know where to look you'll find some real treasures. The town is charming but impoverished conditions makes growth challenging. Truman organizations provide many events, and the Student Activities Board is great about hosting and advertising for their events; each semester or year comedians and popular musicians are brought for entertainment.
Food and Dining Sodexo is pretty crappy, students stop enjoying it after the first month. Leftovers are the bane of many's existence. The SUB has limited hours and the C-Stores are expensive but both are better than the dining halls.
Dorm Life All of the dorms have been renovated within the last 15 years or so, with the final dorm renovation to begin this fall. Laundry service is included (finally!) and the rooms are comfortable albeit cramped. Residence Life staff members are notorious for ratting out students, but are also very good at helping resolve roommate issues and helpful in moving students experiencing extreme situations.
Academic Rigor Classes can be hard, but some departments are easier than others. Student support is good, however, and almost all professors are great about giving personalized help during office hours or after class.
Tips for prospective students It's important to join something--an organization, club, team, etc. Many freshman do transfer because they have trouble connecting, and because Kirksville is a relatively small, uneventful place a lot of the time.
In three sentences Truman State features very comfortable class sizes and student to teacher ratios. Classes are challenging but for the most part hold great value. Campus is a nice size, and there are many organizations and activities for students to be involved in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Truman has a small campus in a small town so you will always feel on campus. Campus police keep a visible presence on campus which makes Truman feel all the more secure.
Greek Life Greek life is tight-knit, tradition-based community on campus. Greek Life currently constitutes about 20% of the student body and offers great opportunities to grow socially, as a leadership, and as a person. There are six sororities and fourteen fraternities to choose from.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of organizations to choose from, especially for a mid-sized university. There's really is something for everyone, and they're not lying when they say you can easily start your own organization.
Great for these types of students Academic-oriented, open-minded, hard workers, diverse students
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's Truman Week, where freshmen get to campus a week before upperclassmen in the fall semester in order to get acclimated to campus. They also say that if you kiss your special someone in the Sunken Garden at midnight then you're sure to get married.
Bang for the buck With its strong academic reputation, Truman offers a tremendous value for its students and you can easily graduate debt free. If you can trade some glitz and glamor for a quality education then Truman might be for you.
What to do for fun House parties, organizational gatherings, Thousand Hills State Park, Leisure World
Tips for prospective students Go Greek or find a solid niche of friends and people to hang out with because there isn't much to do in the Kirksville area. Be ready to hit the ground running your first day of classes because even freshman level courses are more difficult than you might expect.
In three sentences A unique public liberal arts college. What it lacks in amenities, it makes up for with strong academics. It's not for everyone, but there is a lot to love.

Great for these types of students quiet, studious types
What to do for fun Thousand Hills state park
Food and Dining Great options and a good value too.
Dorm Life Dorms have all been redone but there is not much privacy.
Academic Rigor Somewhat challenging but plenty of opportunities to do well.
Tips for prospective students Study hard to get the automatic scholarships.
In three sentences Great value. Teachers really care about you. Small, quiet community that doesn't overwhelm.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you area hard-worker and truly appreciate your grades, then Truman is a great pick for you. It is totally motivating to be in a community where everyone feels the same way about their education. Also, with smaller class sizes, you can really get to know your professor, and they are extremely helpful if you need a little more help understanding a topic.
Tips for prospective students First, apply for scholarships! Truman will most likely give you money already, but it doesn't hurt to try to receive more, plus your parents will appreciate it. Second, do not underestimate the workload at Truman. It is a difficult school and you will definitely have to work a lot, but it is so worth it. Third, get involved! Meet new people, make new friends, and just try to find a healthy thing to do during study breaks.
Bang for the buck It is extremely difficult to find another university to compare Truman's prices to. Truman State is infamous for rewarding a myriad of scholarships to prospective students; and including the overall quality of the university, your money goes much farther at Truman.
Am enjoying being here It is a pretty big adjustment from a large city to Kirksville, but the best thing a student can do is become involved. Participating in extracurricular activities allows you to meet new people, stay active in the community, and overall, makes the college experience much better.
Am learning a lot There is a wide variety of classes to choose from, and the liberal arts program let's you explore those options and spark your interest in a wide field of study.

Tips for prospective students Enjoy it! You only get 4 years of college. Have all the fun you can while learning all you can.
Bang for the buck Have you seen the cost of tuition? Compared to other schools' tuition, Truman is DIRT CHEAP! And it's rated #1, so you're definitely getting a good deal.
Will enjoy being here Truman State is located in my hometown. So, I get to have the full campus experience and also get to go home to visit my family as much as I want.
Will learn a lot Truman is definitely a competitive school, with excellent academics. I am sure to learn a lot in the fall.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students with open minds, an interest in the world outside of Kirksville, and hard workers who also understand the importance of taking study breaks to watch a game of Quidditch on the Quad; Truman is for well-rounded, open-minded students.
Tips for prospective students Take the ACT again- every point you can raise it will get you more scholarship money. Apply for lots of scholarships and grants. There is lots of free money available out there, you just have to find it!
Bang for the buck The website Parents & Colleges selected Truman as one of America's Best Colleges for 2010, listing the university 5th among the Top 10 Best Value Public Colleges and Universities. Truman is constantly recognized for its high-quality, private education for a public price.
Am enjoying being here Truman has a very unique atmosphere. I visited several colleges, but nowhere were the students more friendly and accepting. Kirksville is a very small town where everyone smiles at you. I moved around a lot as a kid, and never made friends nearly as fast as I did here. There are also loads of fun events on campus every week, such as free movies, concerts, comedians, plays, sporting events, and cookouts. You can't be bored here. There are also hilarious special events throughout the year for [nerds like ME] to look forward to, such as 2 weeks of Humans Vs Zombies and an actual Quidditch tournament.
Am learning a lot The problem with freshman-level classes at Truman is that so many are taught by either brand-new professors or graduate students. My freshman year, I had some absolutely brilliant professors, and some extremely unqualified instructors, in more than one department.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Intelligent students who enjoy small town atmosphere. The courses are rigorous and the classes are small but your teachers will know your name. You will see your professors around off campus and if you enjoy road trips for shopping, this is a great university for you!
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships. Truman offers many scholarships within the university, take advantage of them!
Bang for the buck Out of state tuition is $12,000 and room and board ranges from $3,000 to almost $5,000.
Did enjoy being here Despite the small town atmosphere, there is always something to do. Student organizations keep the campus abuzz. The library and rec center have flexible hours as well. Off campus there is not much to do, but the people around town are friendly.
Did learn a lot The professors are always available for help if you need them. They provide office hours and love to interact with their students. If you need extra help, you can find tutors for nearly any class from Chemistry to English and anything in between.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students On a personal note, I never really fot in anywhere. I was the weird smart kid who had trouble making friends. But Truman is home. I am among my peers. I have friends and activities and all sorts of support for anything I may need. Beyond that, truman definitly has a geeky streak, which I adore. We've got renaissance reenactors, anime clubs, computer gaming clubs, and of course, lots of people who like to play Quidditch. Truman is a wonderful school, great for anyone who is looking for a smaller college, with big personality. There is something for everyone here. So if you're willing to put up with a little hard work, the random Quidditch game, and alot of snow, Truman is a great fit for you!
Tips for prospective students Remember, any time you visit any school, ask whoever is giving you tours to tell you about things they don't like just as much as what they do! it gives you a better idea of what you're getting into. At Truman, out professors expect alot out of us. To acheive good grades, we are expected to put in time studying. However, most students also have a full and fufilling social life and quickly learn to balance the two. Also, Truman gets alot of snow. let me say that again. Truman gets ALOT of snow. Some people are not ok with that, and so it's important to be aware that we get alot. We also get lots of rain, so remember to bring your rain boots and umbrella so that you and your friends can go playing in it! Least, that what my friends and I do.
Bang for the buck Truman, according to many websites, is ranked in the top 5 for best public Liberal Arts college in the nation, and even out of state students pay under 20,000 a year! Most college students pay more than that for in state. What's not to love about that deal? Further, Truman works hard to keep fees and tuition as low as possible. The president of Truman even took the time to eat with students and talk about their thoughts on Truman's costs and what might be done to keep them low. Truman is a cheap education, without a cheap experience.
Am enjoying being here Did you know that Truman students hail from nearly every state, and over 40 other countries as well? Talk about diversity! You are always meeting new people, doing new things, and having new experiences. there are over 200 clubs and organizations on campus, so there is always a place where you can feel right at home. The campus itself, though smaller and in a smaller town, is beautiful in any season, and the Student Activites Board works really hard to give students fun, free things to do. Last spring, we had a quidditch (from Harry Potter) tournament. There was Butterbeer, Fizzy Whizzing Pops, Chocolate Frogs, and Pumpkin Spice tea. And everything was FREE!
Am learning a lot Did you know that only 3 classes on campus have 50 students? And that most classes don't exceed 30 students? Even the larger classes I have been in, my preofessor knew my NAME. How amazing is that? And notice that I said professors. There are very few classes in which a grad student is teaching your class. Further, these professors LOVE their jobs, and it's obvious. they make learning fun! Beyond that, Truman believes in relating what you learn in one class to what you learn(ed) in another, not only strengthening your skills, but improving on them!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck With the scholarships Truman gives out and other sources, the tuition is extremely manageable.
Will enjoy being here From the time it took to complete my application to submitting my housing info, I received 3 phone calls from current Truman students making sure I was doing alright. They answered my questions and were very helpful. Truman has such a friendly atmosphere, I can tell it's going to be great.
Will learn a lot Their academic record is great and I know many people who went here that loved it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Truman State University is perfect for motivated, involved, and liberal arts students. Every university allows for many types of people and the same applies to Truman. Truman is diverse in many aspects, but you'll find most students will be involved and active, daily, with all the things they love.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit the campus as many times as possible. Although it only took me one visit to fall in love, I would have become more smitten had I seen more of the great things Truman has to offer. Don't be put-off by the small town, because the large heart of the University makes up for anything lacking elsewhere.
Bang for the buck Truman State University is always ranked within the top 5 in the US News and World Report and that is because Truman has one of the lowest in-state tuition for Public universities, and lowest tuition overall for a public university. Truman has been known for giving back more to the students than your typical cookie cutter university.
Am enjoying being here Kirksville Missouri is a tiny town in the middle of no where, but the campus organizations and all the student involvement keeps everyone busy all the time. Students run the campus and the faculty love that such initiative is present. We get to plan our own programs, start our own clubs and participate with the organizations that we love. The community feel is always felt. I love Truman so much I am a current Student Ambassador (tour guide) and I have been since being a freshman.
Am learning a lot Coming from a small town outside of a big city, I felt like I knew the best of both worlds. A farming community outlook with a big city knowledge too. But after coming to Truman, I felt my horizons expand. The professors love to give a challenge and all the students here are eager to please and stick right back to the professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Its a liberal arts college and the student professor ratio is great. Professors are available to talk to most of the time and are very helpful. They make a very nice environment for the students.
Tips for prospective students Truman is a good choice and improves one's overall perspective and the way one looks at things.
Bang for the buck As I pay out of state tuition it is very expensive for me.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being in Truman. It is a wonderful experience.
Am learning a lot Yes, Truman is a great place for learning and I am learning a lot.

Tips for prospective students Know going in that Truman is a very diverse group of people. Make sure you can go into calculus and skip trig so you can have a teacher.
Bang for the buck Definitely challenging for any student at a very reasonable cost.
Am enjoying being here Yes, nice campus.
Am learning a lot Making students take math (trig) online did not help me learn it,

Categories Comments Campus Safety there's nothing to worry about! and if something comes up, they have those emergency poles with buttons. you're covered!
Greek Life meh...not a big fan myself. all i know is that greek girls live on campus in sectioned part of dorm.
Clubs and Activities too many to count! make your own if it isn't already existing!
Great for these types of students rigorous in academics, sports, and those who want a great school with a surprisingly excellent staff.
Bang for the buck great school, great academics, crazy good at everything! and it's really reasonably priced!
What to do for fun go for a run around town, work out in their gym and rec center, get tickets to events sponsored/hosted by truman, look through the art display, cook in the kitchens in the dorms, hang out with friends, go to the movies.
Food and Dining exceptionally good cuisine and friendly chefs. healthy meals and delicious at the same time!
Dorm Life very quaint and older-looking on the outside but very modernistic and clean on the inside. different options and combinations of styles and set-ups. co-ed, but not in rooms!
Academic Rigor like at any other college, truman allows their students to choose their difficulty (if you will) of the classes they sign up for.
Tips for prospective students visit! it is so much more different when you're actually on the campus. a totally different perspective than the virtual tours on line.
In three sentences overall a very nice place! truman offers a variety of majors and minors. they also have a very prestigious honors program if you're interested in really stretching yourself.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. No problems. But this gives DPS a lot of time to write parking tickets.
Greek Life Pretty good Greek life system. I have enjoyed the time in my fraternity. It is a great way to make close friends, become a better leader, and apply classroom knowledge.
Clubs and Activities Many are offered at Truman. They are a great way to make close friends, become a better leader, and apply classroom knowledge.
Great for these types of students Highly driven, academically oriented, have a high desire for knowledge, don't want a big or small school.
Bang for the buck Not expensive as it is, but academic scholarships are very important to Truman's Admission process. Incoming freshman and transfer students automatically are considered for these very high scholarships. If you have a good enough GPA and ACT score combo then much of your tuition and housing can be paid for.
What to do for fun Campus life has a lot to do! Kirksville life is simple, but can be fun when you want it to be. I like that it isn't extravagant because you stay on campus more often, and don't get distracted from studying.
Food and Dining Sedexo food is okay. They are on many campuses.
Dorm Life Depends on your Student Adviser (SA). This is for any college, but each hallway has a student that watches over you and guides you when needed. Some go on power trips, but others are very generous.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard but it is worth it if you have the right attitude. In general their are high quality professors that care about your learning and are very glad to help you outside of class.
Tips for prospective students Embrace the liberal arts program here. It allows you to make connections across seemingly opposite disciplines, and allows you to become a true intellectual. If you take your education seriously and really try to draw these connections among all the classes you take the intellectual reward you obtain is infinite.
In three sentences The main reason I was drawn to Truman was the unique opportunities it provides. I have high hopes for how my diverse experiences at Truman will help me in the future because it has helped me in obtaining a strong chance of getting into vet school, and will give me a good chance to excel in my career. This school has a great reputation of producing many successful students, and I’m glad I chose to be one of them.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Kirksville is a safe community and the campus is an offset of that. I've never had any feeling of being unsafe walking back home late at night from the library, they have emergency poles and everything is well lit.
Greek Life Although I'm not a part of Greek life, I do see everyone sporting their greek lettered apparel. I've been to a few greek parties and everyone is really nice and doesn't pressure you to do anything you don't want to do.
Clubs and Activities Be involved but not over involved, remember your GPA is more important than Swing Dancing on Sunday Nights. (real club)
Great for these types of students Artistic, Outspoken, Introverted, Athletic, and basically any personality. Truman is a big school that feels like a small community or it doesn't overwhelm you like some state schools. (And everything is about a 5 min walk!)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Although Walmart is the normal place for hungry college kids to go, Aldie's has the same food for about half the price. Also check out Diner 56 for and cheap (but really good) dinner with the friends.
Bang for the buck Truman State was voted best midwest school this year!
What to do for fun I always went to the 1000 Hills lake about 5 miles from Kirksville, where you can fish, trail run or lay out. Although the Quad (area in the middle of campus) always has activities and games.
Food and Dining Sodexo is good for the most part, but for many it gets boring. Once a month they have a premium night where they serve food like ribs, shrimp or filet mignon!
Dorm Life The dorms are Co-ed, you could have a guy or gals dorm right across from yours.
Academic Rigor Whether you're an Art Major, Business, Agriculture or Biology Major all of the courses will be tough.
Tips for prospective students Start around 13-14 credits and don't overload your first semester, there are plenty of tough classes here. The library is your best friend, remember that the amount of studying and ability to understand is directly proportional to your grade. ALWAYS get to know your professor. The difference between a B student and an A student is that an A student understands EVERYTHING from the class and is not tripped up by tricky questions that the professor throws on tests and quizzes.
In three sentences Truman State has been great for me, I love the opportunities that are given to being a student of this school. I am very involved in athletics, volunteer groups and my pre-med program and Truman helps me balance my activities so I'm not spread thin.

Food and Dining sodexo...nuff said.
Dorm Life The dorms are clean and pretty spacious.
Academic Rigor Challenging but if a student is out to learn it is a great school. Also know as the Harvard of the Midwest.ha.
Tips for prospective students Truman is challenging but well worth it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe on campus, but can be rough when walking the town off-campus because of the locals.
Greek Life So much fun and almost a must if you really want to have a blast in college.
Clubs and Activities Join a fraternity/sorority as well as honor societies.
Great for these types of students Bookworms and people from big cities looking to get out of their comfort zones.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus People who have their first kiss in the sunken gardenssupposedly get married. The train bridge and abandoned ski lodge are pretty cool for exploring.
Bang for the buck Fantastic value because it is so cheap for an amazing education.
What to do for fun Join organizations and hit the town when you can. Make sure to get out of the dorms and explore. 1000 Hills Park is fun for hiking and boating. Night life is kind of limited because there are really only 3 good bars in town, but they are still fun.
Food and Dining There aren't a lot of restaurants or fine dining establishments around town, but there are a few local joints that are decent. The dorm food and Student Union Building have mediocre food that gets old after a few years.
Dorm Life The dorms are kind of bland and boring and the people who only hang out in the dorms really miss out on the full college experience. Get out of the dorms as much as you can and get involved on campus. Try and get into one of the newly renovated dorms because they actually have air conditioning.
Academic Rigor Truman is called the Harvard of the Midwest for a reason. The teachers work really hard though to make sure the students understand the material and there are plenty of options for tutoring and assistance.
Tips for prospective students Join organizations early, and really explore the town for all the available options to do for fun. Getting involved in organizations will be what makes your college career so get involved as much as possible.
In three sentences Truman is a great value, with a wide range of available majors. The town is very small, but the enjoyment is what you really make of it. The faculty and staff truly care about the students and want them to succeed.

Categories Comments Greek Life Large variety on groups for any student
Clubs and Activities There are no night clubs in Kirksville; there are a few bars that have dance floors. Greek parties are a blast.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Reading day eves are the best :) just about every student goes out to have fun and relax after a long semester
Bang for the buck The best! Truman is ranked among the top for this. Outstanding faculty
What to do for fun Nearby State parks, road trips, bars, frats/sororities, campus activities...
Food and Dining The food is usually adequate with the occasional phenomenal meal in the dining halls. Each month, the dining halls have a 'premium night', which can be very delicious. The SUB offers a decent variety of good food, but it can be expensive.
Dorm Life I stayed in Ryle Hall pre- and post-renovation. I have fond memories from both years and made many of my Truman friends living on campus.
Academic Rigor I won't lie; most classes are tough and challenging. Some courses are a joke and easy to breeze through, but the majority are designed to push students academically.
Tips for prospective students Truman isn't very close to any big city, so day/weekend trips to Iowa or Columbia, MO are fun. Thousand Hills State Park is a short drive from campus. If you enjoy the outdoors or hiking, Truman is a great school. The bar scene is pretty good with a couple nights of all you can drink and trivia during the week.
In three sentences Truman offers an outstanding education; one of the best in the nation. The atmosphere of the campus is small and delightful. For being a fairly small school, the organization and Greek life is large and welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I personally have never felt threatened on campus and there are a ton of safety poles spread across campus that you can hit and have campus security to you in no time.
Greek Life I personally am not involved in Greek Life very much, but the sororities and fraternities are always up to some kind of great event.
Clubs and Activities You can be involved in ANYTHING that you want to be. If you don't find what you're looking for on the vast list of extra curricular activities at Truman, you can make one yourself!
Great for these types of students Truman is great for students who are looking for a challenge.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Truman has a game called Humans vs. Zombies; it's an unusual tradition that Truman has, but it is loads of fun and a great way to get to know other students who also enjoy shooting nerf darts and nomming brains.
Bang for the buck I am not pleased with the amount that I pay for school. I am an out of state student and tuition for myself as well as other out of state residents continues to raise so the school can pay for whatever new thing it is that they need to have.
What to do for fun Kirksville is a small town, but the University always has things going on. Whether you want to go to a concert, a sporting event, a theatrical event, or any other kind of event, you can always find something to do on campus.
Food and Dining Truman uses a company called Sodexo that most students are not impressed with. The food is fair quality, but the selection is not incredibly diverse.
Dorm Life The Student Advisers that I had in my first year at Truman were very helpful when it came to the adjustment process. Truman also made it very easy to meet new people with interests that were the same as mine.
Academic Rigor Truman has a very challenging academic curriculum. I came from a high school where everything was easy for me, because of the intelligence that I was born with. Truman took my natural intelligence and helped me hone my skills into something even better.
Tips for prospective students Truman is not known for an intensive sports program, but attending sporting events is a great way to meet new friends, support your fellow school mates, and also support your school.
In three sentences Truman is the place to go if you are looking for a kind and open learning environment. The professors, students, and faculty are all well rounded and dedicated people. Truman has so much to offer anyone who is looking for a challenge in their college atmosphere.

Dorm Life Although the dorm monitors take their rules and cleanup very seriously, they're all fun and great to be with, and the dorm are always a friendly environment.
Academic Rigor Truman takes its adcademics very seriously. The teachers all want you to succeed in your work, and won't stand for mediocore results.
Tips for prospective students Always do reseach on every class you want to take before you register. This is to avoid having to withdraw from any class.
In three sentences Truman State university is a wonderful college with a great community. The students there are nice and friendly and if you ever need help with your schoolwork, the teachers have their doors open 24/7. Life a Truman is can cause great changes in a person.

Dorm Life Plenty of options to choose from : community, semi-suite, suite, apartment style all available conveniently on campus with lots of options of fun things to do.
Academic Rigor The schoolwork and classes keep you busy, but in a good way. Plenty of opportunities for scholarly achievement. Lots of time for working hand in hand with the awesome professors. The students fill up the library on a regular basis.
Tips for prospective students Visit campus, sit in on a class, meet with a faculty member, eat in the dining halls. See what all the campus has to offer before making any decisions.
In three sentences Truman State is a great value. The academics challenge you in the best ways. The life on campus gives you the well-rounded college experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I work for the campus security, and let me tell you that I have never felt unsafe. there are lights on every pathway, locks on every door, and emergency call buttons around every corner. Plus, it's such a close community at school that everyone is respectful and everyone is just having a good time.
Greek Life Most of my friends are in a Greek frat. and they have so much fun. I am not, but I wish I would have!! Truman students are so nice and there is a frat/sorority for every single type of person.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities I couldn't even join all the ones I wanted. They have a huge fair that is two stories with table upon table of clubs you can join. I am in Spanish Club, SPHA and a Service Sorority.
Great for these types of students I think everyone can find their place and their friends at Truman
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Train Bridge! Ask around your first week and I promise you won't be disappointed. Big Event is a campus wide service event that nearly everyone does. Homecoming is one of the big Greek events that everyone always looks forward to.
Bang for the buck Truman gives you the experience, the education, and the life skills for one of the cheapest prices.
What to do for fun If you live on campus there are things to do every single day and all weekend. There are a hundred student run programs and activities that have nothing to do with school! The Student Union Building also shows 4 big name movies a year. The town itself is charming with an adorable down town area with lots of shops and diners.
Food and Dining No matter where you go, college food isn't like home. Truman has 3 huge dining halls with every kind of food, a salad bar, cereal bar, grill, international foods, and its daily courses, oh and a desert bar! They also have every kind of soda, tea and coffee!
Dorm Life The dorms are all being renovated!!! They are beautiful and nice, and you really feel like a part of something great when you live in a dorm. The student advisers are hand picked and great people, and you will make friends for life.
Academic Rigor Truman is a school for bright students, but you don't have to be a genius to make it. The courses are challenging but the teachers are always available to help, students always form study groups, and the school even provides free tutoring.
Tips for prospective students It's a good idea to visit the campus! It's what won me over first! Also, check out the dorms and see what you'd like, because each one has its own characteristics and are suitable for everyone in their certain way. Next, check out the courses, the teacher and school reviews, and some of the major and minors. Truman does more than just teach the major, you'll come out a well rounded person!
In three sentences Truman students are so inviting and nice, the teachers will always give you the attention you need, and the campus is breath taking. The courses are challenging yet rewarding, and you learn more than what's in the text books. In the 2 years I have been there so far, I have learned to be a better student and a leader, as well as an active member of the community.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our own campus police (DPS), which is located at the front of the campus and they patrol all day everyday making sure we all stay safe. There isn't to much crime up here in this small town of kirksville so safety is what this town is all about.
Greek Life Over 40 National/Service sorority/Fraternities
Clubs and Activities There's Too many to name and not enough paper in the brochures to explain them all. As a sophomore there are still many more that i'm finding out about everyday i'm here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Human Vs Zombies, it a game that's sweeping the nation and people travel from all over to come up here just to play for the weeks durance.
Bang for the buck This is the most important in state tuition is so cheap for the education you're receiving at around 14K-15K. Out of state is around 19K and that's way better than paying 25+ at most colleges.
What to do for fun For fun there are plenty of on campus activities, where you can meet people and share like interests. If not that there is a skating rink, bowling alley, and all throughout the year there will be sports games to see or the Rec so that you can workout on your own if you're not a people person.
Food and Dining We're supplied by Sodexo, I'd have to say the best dorm to eat in is Ryle. They have remodeled the dining hall to a more suitable restaurant theme will all you can eat. Also, inside of the sub you have a blimpie,
Dorm Life Nice, there are six different living styles and buildings not including on-campus apartments. Beds are comfy they're all co-ed, and room sizes wont give a claustrophobic person any problems.
Academic Rigor The academic schedule for a four year graduate will be rigorous and tough. Truman offers so many tutors though that if you don't know now you will learn quickly.
Tips for prospective students Come in ready to work, don't come in thinking this education is going to be handed to you. Work early on procrastination because it will bite you in the butt.
In three sentences Truman State is the college for a tough schedule, for someone who wants a push or a challenge in life. The campus is nice, its a friendly town, and friendly people. The overall feel of truman is great, the people around it and in it, the campus size, and the classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had an issue with campus safety and there are emergency buttons to push all over campus. There is not a lot of crime in Kirksville so, if you needed something I'm sure the campus or city police would get there speedily.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for just about anything you want to do. I, myself, am in the general group of The Truman State University Swingers as well as TruHop.
Great for these types of students You have to be willing to put forth effort and have a will to learn. Truman is not full of easy A classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The train bridge is like a legend around Kirksville. If you go to Truman you have to check it out.
Bang for the buck I think Truman is definitely worth the money and they are usually pretty good about scholarships.
What to do for fun Like I said before, Truman Students make their own fun. There are also a ton of clubs and activities including a semi-annual week long humans vs zombies battle. It's fun to watch, even if you don't participate.
Food and Dining We all complain about Sodexo food but, honestly, its not that bad. It was definately better than the school food provided for me in High School. However, I rated this 3 stars because I do wish we had more fast food options in the Student Union.
Dorm Life Since Truman is kind of in the middle of nowhere our ResLife and Student Activities Board do a lot to ensure that we are having fun as well as learning. I stayed in West Campus Suites and it was like an apartment but, we were known for not being as social as the other dorms. Honestly, it is all about what you make it but, we do have some pretty awesome Student Advisers!
Academic Rigor I was challenged in some classes, and not in others. However, Truman is known for being a private school feel at public school price so, expect to spend a little bit more time on your studies. The goal of the professors at Truman is to make you grow and learn, not just to give you an A and move on.
Tips for prospective students Be as social as possible. At Truman it is easy to just hole up in your room and study. But, don't! There is a lot of fun to be had around campus because the students have had and continue to make their own fun.
In three sentences At Truman State University you will be surrounded by amazing people and great teachers. Truman's class sizes are relatively small so, you are a name and a face, not a number. Truman will challenge you in ways you never thought possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been issues with residents of Kirksville (specifically high school students) badgering students in the past. Overall, however, the incidence of safety issues is relatively low and life on campus is very safe.
Greek Life So much fun! Truman has the benefit of a group of students who don't seem to fit any stereotype. Greek life is no exception is a really wonderful way to meet and form lasting bonds with people of every possible personality, background, major, and ambitions.
Clubs and Activities There are activities for any subject, and being involved makes college so much more enjoyable. There are club sports, intermurals, dance groups, a Capella groups, political groups, humanitarian groups, and seriously every club you could think of.
Great for these types of students Dedicated, hard-working, easy-going (I know that sounds paradoxical, but Truman students manage it), accepting of life experiences.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tradition- the football team always loses. Locations- the Bubble (meeting place in the library), the Sunken Garden (if you kiss someone here, it's said that person will become your spouse).
Bang for the buck Truman is a wonderful school for finding scholarships and affordable classes. There are also plenty of work study, scholarship, and institutional jobs that can pander to whatever your area of interest is.
What to do for fun Kirksville is small, but has the charm of small towns with its farmer's markets and wonderful parks. In reality, though, staying on campus is the real source of fun. Participating in various organizations and events on campus is the best way to enjoy college life at Truman.
Food and Dining The food provider, Sodexo, is the one true bane of dorm life and eating in the cafeterias. There are, however, a few small restaurants located in the Student Union Building with a variety of other foods for when you are haunted by dreams of bad Sodexo meals.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms was such a rewarding experience! I made my closest friends by living in the dorms. ResidenceLife is an organization filled with enthusiastic students who work hard to make dorm life fun and welcoming for all freshmen.
Academic Rigor Truman is very difficult. Some professors can be difficult to understand and work with, some can be wonderful teachers simply teaching an incredibly difficult subjuct. No matter what the class is, though, the professor will expect students to work hard and learn as much as possible.
Tips for prospective students Fall in love with the campus and the town. Kirksville, Missouri is small, but can be a really wonderful home. The campus is also always hosting events and entertainers and has a vast amount of sports, clubs and organizations filled with really wonderful students.
In three sentences Truman State University is rigorous, challenging, and at times almost overwhelmingly frustrating. More than all of that, Truman is rewarding. The degree to which the professors hold students- in maturity, intelligence, and passion for learning- ignites students to reach that degree of excellence.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Truman is a great value! The tuition is really cheap compared to other comparable schools, whether you're in-state or out of state. Truman is also really great about scholarships, so work hard in high school and it will definitely pay off at Truman!
What to do for fun The Student Activities Board puts on a lot of different activities throughout the week, such as concerts, comedians, and movies. You can also watch the Bulldogs play football and basketball. Students like to go to Train Bridge late at night to look at the stars. There are also a lot of clubs and organizations you can join, and there is also a movie theater, bowling alley, and park in Kirksville.
Food and Dining The food in the cafeteria is all right, Sodexo just needs to put more seasoning -- as in a LOT more seasoning -- on their food. There are plenty of other options, such as Jimmy John's, Pagliai's Pizza (a delicious college tradition), Chinese food, Pancake City, Domino's, and some generic fast-food places.
Dorm Life Everyone in the dorms are really close. Truman Week is a great opportunity for freshmen to meet other people in their residence hall. One of my favorite things about Truman is being able to say hello to five different people you know as you walk across campus to your next class.
Academic Rigor Truman is very challenging academically. It's a Liberal Arts University, so you're required to take a variety of classes that vary in difficulty. Teachers here are really great. They try to make the topic interesting and are happy to help you if you're stuck on a concept, or if you just want to say hello, their offices are always open!
Tips for prospective students Get your GPA up and study for the ACT. Truman is a fairly selective school, and the higher your GPA and ACT/SAT scores, the better scholarships you'll get from the University!
In three sentences Truman is an academically challenging school and I absolutely love it here! In the time I've been here, I've had some great classes, joined several organizations, made some great friends, and had a lot of fun! I definitely recommend Truman to every high schooler considering college!

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Truman offers a wide variety of clubs and activities to interest all the different types of students. The clubs include recreational along with academic, and the activities vary depending on the sponsor.
Bang for the buck Truman does a wonderful job of keeping their costs low for in-state residents, creating scholarship options for those out-of-state and providing finance counselors to answer questions when needed.
What to do for fun Truman, as stated earlier, is located on a small campus in a small town however, this does not limit activities and events that students can participate in for fun. If one looks in the right place, it is very easy to find fun activities going on at the campus and in the community. However, if none of those pique the interest, Kirksville houses a beautiful state park and other natural commodities that are suitable for picnics and hiking with friends.
Food and Dining Truman dining hall food is more than just edible. While it still has a long way from â??home cookingâ??, the cooks responsible for making the menu do try hard to create unique and positive dining experience for all who eat there. There is always a wide variety of dishes and second helpings are always encouraged.
Dorm Life Some of my best memories of the year come from my dorm. Because I am in the smallest dorm at Truman, I have been able to get to know everyone in the dorm, and thus have adopted a new extended family. While the facilities are classic dorm grade, the atmosphere and the people within the dorms have made it all the worthwhile.
Academic Rigor As stated above, since Truman is known for its academics and liberal arts education, academics tend to be more complex. However, professors and administration want the students to succeed, so tools and options are available for those willing to put effort in for them.
Tips for prospective students Students considering Truman should know that Truman is a very small community, in both the school aspect but also the surrounding town aspect. Also, since Truman is known for academics and being a liberal education, classes tend to be harder along with the overall education more in depth. However, Truman does supply the students with options and tools to thrive and receive an exemplary education.
In three sentences Truman State University is a wonderful school that focuses on academics, along with student's future careers. Professors work hard to create a relationship with the individual student through friendly attitudes, small class sizes, and flexible office hours. Trumanâ??s reputation of being the Harvard of the Midwest shines through the graduating students by giving them the tools they require to positively influence any community they reside in.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities All kinds of club choices. At the beginning of the year is a fair for clubs and there is A LOT to choose to be a part of, everything from Stargazing to Swing Dancing and many in between. There is also clubs for most of the majors, so that is helpful as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is always something going on campus. Most events are free to students, like just a couple weeks ago B.O.B and Judah Friedlander was here.
Food and Dining The food is superb. You get the option of eating in the cafeterias in the Residence Halls as well as the Mainstreet Market. Don't be thrown off by the term cafeteria either. There are numerous options for vegetarians and omnivores, as well as ethnic foods. The Market consists of Blimpies, Godfather's Pizza and a couple different eating places.
Academic Rigor The first test is always the hardest, but once you know what the professor is looking for, it gets a lot easier so don't trip. Truman is a Liberal college, they want you to be well rounded students, so be prepared for classes you don't want to take. However, they are interesting and there is a variety to choose from.
Tips for prospective students Studying habits are a must. You must be prepared for hard tests because it's nothing like high school. Also, establishing a relationship with your professors is very helpful, they will give you advice and help you every step of the way.
In three sentences I would recommend Truman to everyone. The teachers are very insightful and are ALWAYS very helpful. The students get the education they are paying for. Also, the selection of classes is very wide.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who love to learn and truly want to further their education by being challenged by some of the best professors and peers will definitely thrive here. It is an academically competitive environment, but there is always help available to students.
Bang for the buck Great education for a really good price!
Food and Dining The on-campus food is better than most colleges, but still not so great some days. However, the restaurants in and around town are wonderful!
Dorm Life The dorms are fairly nice, and there is a variety of living styles and costs, so you have a lot of options to choose from.
Academic Rigor The workload can be a little overwhelming, but after a while you start to get used to it, and the stress level diminishes a bit.
Tips for prospective students Don't be shy on your activities list. They want to know everything they can about you!
In three sentences Truman is a wonderful school. The campus is beautiful and the people are very welcoming. I love it here.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Truman is great for the nerdy people, or people who aren't afraid to be themselves. You don't come here to mess around. You come here to get a good education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Sunken Garden on campus is an amazing place on campus. Rumor has it, that the first person you kiss in the Sunken Garden is the person you are destined to marry.
Bang for the buck For the quality of education you're receiving, the price is exceptional.
What to do for fun Although there's not much to do in Kirksville itself, there's always something going on on campus, whether it be a sporting event, a movie night, or an outside speaker.
Food and Dining Sodexo isn't always the greatest, but it's food.
Dorm Life Dorms on campus are nice and neat, even though a few could be due for remodeling.
Academic Rigor Truman is one of those universities that you attend for academics, so expect to be challenged.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Your chances of getting aid and preferences of dorm will be chosen by how early your application is submitted
In three sentences Truman is an amazing university. The professors are very well educated and know what they are talking about. Kirksville, however, can sometimes be a boring town.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Hard working, determined, and having a want to learn.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The 'Trainbridge' is a popular location where students go to relax and look at the beautiful night sky. Kirksville isn't close to any bog cities, its just you and the night sky.
What to do for fun Anything and everything you can think of, you can do at Truman.
Academic Rigor It's pretty tough, but rewarding.
Tips for prospective students The more effort you put into your work, the more you get out of it. The more you learn and the more you grow. The professors here at Truman know what its like to me a Truman student and they understand exactly what their job is to help their students grow and learn.
In three sentences I absolutely LOVE Truman! It's the Harvard of the Midwest, what isn't great about this school. Everyone is known for their accomplishments at Truman.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's a top rank university with state school prices
What to do for fun Make friends so even if you're just sitting in your room watching movies you're having fun with them.
Food and Dining I'm not to found of the food some days it's good but other days you're better off eating cereal. I give the food a 50/50
Dorm Life I live in West Campus Suites and love it! It's a little far from the main campus but worth the walk.
Academic Rigor This isn't a party school. The work is hard and teachers expect a lot from you.
Tips for prospective students Work Hard always, do homework, and DON'T SKIP CLASS!
In three sentences I think this is a great school. It is challenging, the teachers expect a lot from the students but, it has a great reputation. In a small town so you have to make your own fun!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I don't think I've ever felt unsafe on campus. The campus is small and feels like home.
Greek Life I'm not a part of it, but Greek Life is pretty down-to-earth. There are social, service, and academic sororities and fraternities, and a lot of people are involved in them.
Clubs and Activities There's always something to do on campus and tons of organizations you can get involved with. There really isn't any kind of person that wouldn't find anything to become involved in.
Great for these types of students Students that really want to learn and are willing to work hard, but still want to have a college experience of spending a lot of time with great friends. Nerdy students that don't care a lot what other people think, but aren't completely oblivious to Greek life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you stand outside of Kirk Building facing the stone arch and standing in the exact center, you hear a really loud echo when you speak (and people standing next to you can't). Stick gum on the gum tree on the Quad. Throw a frisbee, play soccer, etc. on the Quad.
Bang for the buck Great scholarships, low tuition even if you're out of state.
What to do for fun Hang out at the train bridge, visit Thousand Hills State Park, go star-gazing at Hazel Creek Lake, join the climbing club at the Thompson Center, hike the trails at Rainbow Basin, visit the abandoned ski lodge (it's kind of trespassing..but really cool), grab coffee at Costa Rican Cafe Co. or Sweet Expressions.
Food and Dining Sodexo is definitely made fun of for being pretty gross. The staff in the dining halls are sweet, though, and make up for the bad food most of the time. You'll learn to cook more to get away from the dining halls.
Dorm Life Comfortable and clean dorms. Student advisors do a good job getting everyone to get to know each other your freshman year. Dorms aren't cheap, though, and living off campus is a more cost-efficient way to do things after the first year or two of living in the dorms.
Academic Rigor You can't blow off school and succeed at Truman. You will definitely be challenged.
Tips for prospective students Truman is not a party school, but there is plenty of fun to be had for every kind of person. It's easy to be smart and invested in school, because everyone around you is too. You'll get creative coming up with things to do, because Kirksville's not very big.
In three sentences Truman as known as one of the best value colleges because of the perfect combination of low price and quality education. Truman allows students to explore their options while giving them essential tools to exceed after college. Overall, great professors teaching smart and genuine student body!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is a very safe place to be, even at night. Many sidewalk lamps light the way at night, and there are little emergency stations in set places on campus that one can push a button and have the campus police come running in an emergency. Also, the doors leading into dorms lock at certain times of the night and only residents of that building can get in with their IDs.
Clubs and Activities There are many fun clubs and activities to participate in. I am on the Equestrian Team where we ride horses and show them, Sharpshooters Club, and Chi Alpha a church group on campus. There are also rock climbing clubs, swimming, Spanish club, and pretty much whatever you can think of.
What to do for fun There are so many activities on and off campus to do for fun. There's a train bridge that people like to hang out at. There's Fireside Fridays where local bands play. Many plays and musicals and concerts are always going on. Also, there is a bowling alley/arcade/skating rink in town, and many restaurants and a movie theatre.
Food and Dining The food is one level above prison food, and is not very good. Sometimes we have what's called Premium Night where they actually try to make good food such as steak, fish, and other good foods. Most of the time it's difficult to tell what's in a food, and most of the time the employees serving the food don't know what they're serving to you.
Dorm Life Some dorms don't have air conditioning, I live in one such dorm. There are sometimes when it is extremely hot or cold, but we survive with box fans and blankets. Noise levels are moderate and sometimes the fire alarm goes off due to an individual's lack of cooking skills.
Academic Rigor Some classes are extremely challenging, and others are moderate.
Tips for prospective students Study, study, study your material. If you don't read for most of your classes, you won't do well on tests and such. Make sure you are involved in extra-curricular activities to help with de-stressing and taking breaks from studying.
In three sentences Truman is an academically challenging school that values its students. To be at Truman, you must be willing to work hard and succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've walked back from the library or a party at 1 or 2 in the morning, and I've never once felt uncomfortable.
Greek Life Do it!! I'm slightly biased, but there's a great Greek life here. There are 6 social sororities, 14 social fraternities--there's a place for everyone that wants one, and it's a good way to stay busy.
Clubs and Activities People who don't get involved tend to enjoy Truman less. There's a decent variety of things to do, from Swing Dancing Club to Running Club to Equestrian Team to French Club. You get the drift.
Great for these types of students We joke about the Typical Truman Student--slightly awkward and nerdy, usually education-driven, spending all hours at the library.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Sunken Garden is a garden, obviously, at the site of the old Baldwin building before it burned down. Lots of... hanky panky goes on down there. That's all I can really think of.
Bang for the buck I did come to Truman for the money--spending upwards of $25000 a year at other schools is just not an appealing prospect--but I'm glad I came just the same. It's cheesy, but you really get out of your education what you put into it, and the professors here really are great.
What to do for fun Greek life! But really. There are tons of opportunities to get involved, be it sports or foreign language or entering a sorority. Truman is in a small town, and a fancy Friday night for us is walking downtown to the $7 Chinese buffet.
Food and Dining We joke about Sodexo, the food provider here, but the food honestly isn't half bad, especially considering how many people they have to feed on a daily basis. There's a nice variety of meals offered, the salad bar is always reliable, and the convenience stores--C-stores--are great when you're in a hurry.
Dorm Life There's a good range of dorms depending on what you're looking for--a suite, a shared bathroom, community bathrooms, food options, etc. You can interact with others in your building as much or as little as you'd like.
Academic Rigor Although I might not agree with the epithet Harvard of the Midwest, teachers really do keep you on your toes. Easy classes don't really exist here!
Tips for prospective students Look at your options, sit down with your parents and discuss what you're looking to get out of a college education. Truman has a well-deserved reputation for being academically rigorous, and the cheap in-state tuition makes it a great choice, especially if you're looking to save money for grad school.
In three sentences Truman is a school for the financially responsible, hardworking student. Yes, it's in a small town, but students find plenty to do, and the teachers keep you busy!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is well light and has emergency post.
Greek Life Rush isn't till September which is nice because by then you know if you have time for it and you are settled in.
Clubs and Activities Truman has so many opportunities for everyone, I'm still finding new groups.
Great for these types of students Only come here if you are hard working and willing to talk to professors.
Bang for the buck Truman is ranked in the top ten best best education for the price.
What to do for fun The square offers students many opportunities for entertainment.
Food and Dining Sodexo could do a better job but according to people who live off campus they wish they could go back to it.
Dorm Life The dorms are great, they each have there own since of community. They are in the process of updating one of the dorms to bring it to the comfort of all the others.
Academic Rigor HARD. You must be willing to put the work in and stay in some weekend night because you are a student first.
Tips for prospective students Use the tutoring and professor office hours. Get involved this is your time.
In three sentences Truman is a liberal arts institute willing to help the students. The classes are hard but professor love to talk to you, and since class are small you can really get to know them. It has many opportunities for success and involvement that you need to take.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt very safe on campus, it is well lit and usually there is always other student near by.
Clubs and Activities Truman has a variety of clubs and extracurricular events to entertain and enjoy as a Truman student. And most clubs specific to a field such as Psych or Nursing allow student outside of the field to join and learn more about the subject.
Bang for the buck The education you will receive at Truman is top notch for the money you spend.
What to do for fun I am kinda of an outdoor person, and if your like me you can find lots to do, there are lots of bike trails and hiking trail and the most beautiful park to swim, fish, canoe, and many more. However if you don't like the outdoors, there is the skating/bowling alley and lots of neat antique shops around town, and if you are into exercise Truman has an awesome rec center..
Food and Dining There are three halls: Ryle (the most newly renovated and the best style), Missouri (the next nicest with very acomidating large dinnign area), and last my person least favorite and oldest Cenntenial (small, cramped and least variety of food).
Dorm Life Most everyone is very friendly, I got roomed with a girl I had never met until move in day. They pair you by you like and values, and ours are similar, however she is more introverted and I am a bit of an extrovert so something she does annoy me but for the most part not knowing my roommate until the day we moved in is awesome.
Academic Rigor Academic are not impossible, however you need to put forth effort the study more than one day before the test. Some classes are fairly easy and a nice break from your major's requirements. However, the higher in years you go the tougher the classes. But they truly prepare you for the work force.
In three sentences A great private like education for a reasonable public price. Kirksville is very home, medium sized town with great people. Find the thing you love about Kirksville and Truman and it will make you love the whole experience.

What to do for fun Get involved. Whether it be Greek life, a sport, a job, or volunteer organizations, just get involved and the rest is easy.
Food and Dining Sodexo food isn't the best, but while living in dorms, it is super convenient.
Dorm Life Dorm life is almost necessary to meet people and get involved in campus activities.
Academic Rigor Truman is known for being a challenging college, and although it truly lives up to that, it is not impossible to do well.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year to meet all different types of students and start getting involved in campus activities.
In three sentences Truman is a great school for not only in-state students, but anyone that wants a competitive edge in their career. It is well worth the money and has plenty of scholarship opportunities that makes it very affordable. Everyone falls in love with the small town lifestyle.
