Great for these types of students

    1) Shy students who have a hard time meeting new people. Akron offers plenty of opportunities to meet other students in fun environments that limit awkwardness. The class tend to be smaller which offers more time to get to know your professors and fellow students. 2) Academic orientated students. Akron offers several different types of educational promoting groups and it's very easy to get in touch with professors. There are tutoring labs held in the main library on campus everyday, classroom assistants in several classes, learning communities (you live and have classes with these people), and a large Honors program with it's own residence hall.

    Tips for prospective students

Go in with a positive attitude because going in with belief of failure will only result in failure. Take a tour of campus and see if you can see yourself as a student. Ask questions about everything to your tour guide, if you have a question chances are someone else has the same one. While looking at the campus just have fun and really look at everything. Take the time to walk around by yourself and see if you feel comfortable there because if you don't the college isn't right for you.

    Bang for the buck

Akron is cheaper than most places in Ohio to attend. We have a ton of free activities to attend, we're always getting free shirts, pens, bags, and other things, parking is included in tuition, all sports games on campus are free to attend, free movies in the student union theater, our game room which features bowling and billiards is free, our rec center with its amazing pool, rock wall and several basketball courts is free, and there's free wifi all over campus. There's also free tutoring in the library, you can rent a laptop for a few hours a day or for a week for free from the library, and printer money is already placed on your id card.

    Am enjoying being here

Akron has tons of events to attend like Boo at the Roo, comedian shows, hypnotist shows, a movie theatre in the Student Union which occasionally shows movies weeks before they come out in other theatres, musician shows and plenty of other activities...

    Tips for prospective students

Awesome school! I live at home and commute to and from daily. Parking can be a hassle but if you get there early it's a breeze to find a parking spot. I am definitely learning a lot in all of my classes and almost all of the professors are willing to help you out if you are struggling with anything. Highly recommend the University of Akron!

Great for these types of students

Athletes, honor students, nursing students, engineering student, art students, social work, business, and sports related majors. These are the most commonly herd majors around campus. There are a million and 1/2 groups to join. Starbucks on campus for coffee lovers, and look up our rec center and prepare to be amazed. www.uakron.edu for majors, and for sports go to gozips.com !! Lets go blue and gold!

    Tips for prospective students

Fill out your FASFA early to get your maximum financial aid package. If you're living in the dorms, you either love it or hate it. I would recommend it to freshman because then you are located in the center of campus and everything is easier to get to. Plus you are closer to the dining hall.

    Bang for the buck

Quality education and a beautiful campus is worth it. The cost is relatively cheap compared to other universities this size.

    Am enjoying being here

I wouldn't be this happy anywhere else!

    Am learning a lot

The classes are generally small and the professors are fantastic. After you finish your electives, all the major-specific class are enticing and exciting. I'm glad I chose Akron over a smaller school. There are tons of opprotuniteis here for internships even in the cities near by like Canton, Stow, even Cleveland.

Great for these types of students

I would defanitely recommend this school to athletes. They will get great use out of the recreation center, the track, the fields, and the college sports and intramural club sports programs. I am a theater major and the theater program isn't great but there is a theater club and defanitely a place for everyone here. I love how diverse the student population is. I also enjoy how many international students there are and the many study abroad options that are available here. I've made so many international friends! I really hope to study abroad through UA as well.

    Tips for prospective students

I would defanitely recommend joining as many clubs as possible and to attend the welcome week events. The welcome week events are a great way to meet people. The people that I met when I first came to UA are still my friends. There is also a club fair in the student union that exhibits the many different clubs, volunteer groups, and Greek life that Akron students can join. I am in three different clubs and I've also met alot of friends by joining them. I would also tell a first year student to relax about college and not feel nervous. This campus is the perfect size and they will feel right at home. There are so many people that are there to help and staff and students are incredibly nice. They should defanitely arrive on campus with an open mind.

    Bang for the buck

For how much I pay to attend classes and live here, it is far better than some of my friends' colleges. There are so many free events to go to. Something is always going on. As a student you get access to the AWESOME recreation center, which I frequent every week. The pool is the perfect temperature and incredibly fun to get some people together and go to. There is alot of exercise equipment as well. It's such a huge place and very clean.

    Am enjoying being here

I live on campus and absolutely adore it. I would recommend living in the dorms to anyone considering this school. Almost every Tuesday night the Residence Hall Programming Board works hard to put on awesome and entertaining performances like comedians, dances and musicians... for free! I have attended all of them! The dorms are clean, close to classes and convenient. The people are also very friendly. I've made alot of friends.

    Am learning a lot

Some of the classes here seem like simple repeats of high school courses crammed into a shorter amount of time. I feel that some of the classes, including the prerequisites, include curriculums with subjects I've already learned about. It would be nice if the classes were more comprehensive,

The University is a great school for any students! The only downside to the university is its size, thus it is crucial to find a way to get involved in one way or another. I believe the University of Akron was the best choice for me because of its quality education, low tution cost, and the convenience of having it close to home.

    Tips for prospective students

The University of Akron is a very large school with many diverse students including Ohio residents, out of state students, and many international students. I enjoy the large campus and emense amount of students, however it can be hard to make friends or feel at home at the University of Akron if you do not get involved in student organizations, on-campus activities, or having a job on campus. As a commuter student it can be easy to shuffle through the crowd unnoticed. By getting involved you will meet a tremendous amount of people and feel more at home at the University. The University makes it easy for students to find information about clubs or activities with it's convenient and helpful resources on campus.

    Bang for the buck

As an in state student, tuition is extremely inexpensive for me. They also offer some scholorships including academic, majors, sports, and many others. I feel the education I am receiving from The University of Akron is equivalent to any high ranking university, and I am very fortunate to have this outstanding school close to home.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the University of Akron and have enjoyed my past two semesters here. The campus is beautiful with up to date technology and facilities. The faculty is friendly and there are many resources to help students succeed and have the best possible college experience.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot since my first semester. First of all, I have learned it is important to stay on top of my classes, and make sure I am staying on track with my major. The University makes this easy for students by providing them with an online resouces called the DARS report where students are able to track how much they have completed their degree. I have also learned it is best to make use of the many resources the University has to offer for students including a math and writing lab which assists in homework in a math or english. I have also learned this past semester it is best to get involved in student activities or organizations in order to meet people and make friends.

If you want to have fun, learn, not pay a fortune but get the education like you are, and meet a bunch of people that are awesome.

    Tips for prospective students

Buy into the system. College is the best part of your lives because the people you meet will be the people you are with the rest of your lives. Join everything you can meet everyone you can, because you never know they might be your significant other or best friend for life.

    Bang for the buck

I transferred from John Carroll University a private Jesuit school whose tuition was 40 grand a year and I am receiving a better education at Akron with a more reasonable price. Not to mention there is better food, with the zip card you can eat at burger king bw3's and every college students favorite place... taco bell. Come join the 27,000 plus students enjoying every moment at the University of Akron.

    Am enjoying being here

I am currently a student at the school of music pursuing a degree in music education, the job placement for music education at the U of A is 100%. I absolutely fell in love not only with the friends I have made at Akron but the professors whom are very educated and have great senses of humor.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Akron is a magnificent school with tons of opportunities for every type of student. With a fantastic school of engineering, you can get a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. The University of Akron has a great nursing program with a great job placement! I am taking 23 credit hours and am learning more this semester than I did in a year at a private University.

Great for these types of students

Any student!! University of Akron accommodates all personalities whether you like to socialize or if you'd rather stay in. As said before, there are a ton of organizations! You meet so many different people, especially living on-campus, you're bound to find where you fit in!

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus!! Ask questions when you visit, familiarize yourself with the campus. College is the one time in your life where you get a fresh start. No one knows who you were in high school so this is your chance to tweak it a little bit. I'm not saying to be someone you aren't, just simply someone you want to be. Break out of your shell and try (most) things once! Remember these are the best 4 years of your life.

    Bang for the buck

One word: Definitely. At first, the figures you're looking at seem pretty high. If you can attend a regional campus for the first year or two, it knocks the price down a bit. However, unlike some campuses, you have the option of living off-campus sooner. Also, a first year student is able to keep a car on-campus which makes commuting home much easier! I'm not overpaying to attend the University of Akron, if anything I'm underpaying.

    Am enjoying being here

The University of Akron isn't just about going to class and getting a degree, it's about having the best four years of your life while obtaining a degree! There are so many organizations to join from a sorority/fraternity to habitat for humanity! There's plenty of intramural sports for those of us who can't commit to the main team! Every one wants to have a blast while attending school, therefore you meet people who eventually become your best friend!

    Am learning a lot

When you look at the University of Akron staff/faculty, you find plenty of people who were in your shoes many years ago. You also find understanding and caring individuals who put 100% in their classrooms to benefit YOU. The work in each class is relevant and I've never asked myself, why do I need this? At the University of Akron, I know what I'm learning is important and fortunately, I'm learning a lot!

    Campus Safety

The campus is primarily downtown Akron (Main Campus) and there can be some crime (robberies). My biggest issue is with the apartments near campus. They are pretty rundown, costly, and the students are obvious targets for thieves. Most of the time I feel safe on campus, but I may just start carrying mace.

    Bang for the buck

Parking should be better for what you pay. Tuition could also be more affordable.

    What to do for fun

The Recreation Center offers swimming, rock climbing, basketball, treadmills, weightlifting, etc. The Student Union has places to eat, a theater, a place to go bowling or play pool, and so on.

    Food and Dining

Subway and Rob's Cafe (buffet style, salad bar, stir fry area) are some of the most popular eateries. Penn Station, Taco Bell, and McDonald's are options as well.

    Dorm Life

Dorm rooms are small and overpriced, but the locations are generally ideal.

    Academic Rigor

You shouldn't have a problem. Math courses and science courses may be the only thing that will mess up a person's GPA. Know your professors and do your research.

    In three sentences

It's a good school, not too large. It is great for a student who is focused primarily on their education. Parking is a nightmare and tuition is expensive (with fees continuing to rise and pop-up out of nowhere). The college bookstores charge quite a bit for the books, but you can sell them back for a little money.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply EARLY!! I got my admissions decision in about 6 weeks and was surprised how quick this school got back to me!

    Bang for the buck

It's going to be pretty expensive for me since I'm out of state, but it shouldn't be TOO bad hopefully if I receive a scholarship!

    Will enjoy being here

I'm SO ready to get out of Vegas!

    Will learn a lot

Not that I didn't learn a fair bit in high school, but I think coming across the country might help me see things a bit differently.

Campus safety is a big thing at akron so i would say that they do a pretty good job with that. The only advise I do have is dont walk around by yourself past hours

    Greek Life

I really dont know much about the greek life on campus

    Clubs and Activities

The Clubs in Akron are alot of fun and the are always events to go to. We have one of the best soccer team in the nation and they are alot of fun to watch.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on around campus to do, whether its bowling, rec, or a comedy show

    Food and Dining

There are many different food places around campus to eat

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was a learning experience my advise is to do random rommates to meet new people

    Academic Rigor

Everything in college is rigor and every professor is a little bit different

    Tips for prospective students

The most important tip is to use your time wisely and to start on your assignment as soon as they are assigned to you.

    In three sentences

The university of Akron is a great place to be with its friendly campus. There are alot of places to get help with any of your question. Everything you want and need is very close by.

    Campus Safety

There are plenty of police officers, and it usually takes them a very short time to catch anyone doing anything illegal on the campus grounds.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a huge list of groups and clubs that are affiliated with Akron University.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants to learn and still have a good time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are several small pathways that have been beaten down by students trying to find more efficient ways to/from classes in between the various buildings.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition isn't as expensive as it could be, and you get a lot of good opportunities.

    What to do for fun

The activities on campus are nearly endless. There's almost always something happening to either participate in or watch.

    Food and Dining

The food is usually good, and the price isn't bad.

    Dorm Life

I have heard very few negative things about living in the dorms on campus, but I do not live on-campus.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not easy, but they teach you a lot in the little time they have.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to arrive at least 15 minutes early, if not half an hour, to make sure you find a good parking space.

    In three sentences

Akron University has a beautiful campus. The faculty are both helpful and friendly. It doesn't take long to learn your way around campus.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a large univeristy experience, who don't mind living in the city, who aren't exactly sure what they want to do because as a larger school the Univerity of Akron has many options for majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus, talk to people who go there, really think about what you want from your college experience and compare and contrast this to the other schools you are visiting and thinking about going to. Consider what is important to you as a student and as a person and see if the University meets these needs.

    Bang for the buck

As a student at The Univerity of Akron, I sometimes have mixed feelings on what I am paying for. For example, in the majority of classes the professors are very knowledgeable and experts at their specified field. However, every once and awhile you'll have a teacher who may be very competent in their field, but not so much at teaching. It is this kind of experience that makes me question the amount of money I am paying for classes.

    Am enjoying being here

College is difficult, and especially for freshman it is a huge adjustment. However, once you get past that The University of Akron is a very enjoyable campus to be on. I highly recommend living on campus for at least the first year to get to know people and get that traditional college experience. The university and the RHPB (residence hall program board) work very hard at putting together events, concerts, and sporting events for students to enjoy.

    Am learning a lot

As an education major, The University of Akron has greatly contributed to my knowledge of my major. However, from time to time there is a class or two that seems unnecessary. For example, I had to take a composition class as a general requirement for almost all majors and as an integrated languages arts major for me the class was a waste of time. As a whole though I have experienced and learned a lot in my courses and I believe that this gained knowledge will greatly help me in pursuit of my degree.

Soccer fans (we are home to the 2010 national champions, 2009 runners up; two years ranked number 1 team), students who enjoy small class sizes but still want to experience a large university

    Tips for prospective students

If you qualify, apply to honors college. Seriously, it sucks big time trying to get into classes as a freshman or sophomore if not in honors. They get to schedule ahead of time and get preference in placement. Live on campus! We have really nice dorms WITH AIR CONDITIONING! Not many schools have dorms with air conditioning so take advantage of that luxury that we have. Go to games! Join the AK Rowdies, one of the largest student organizations in the country. They hang out at sporting events and have a fun time cheering on the zips.

    Bang for the buck

You can tell that the university is using tuition for the benefit of the students. Quite a few new buildings have been built since 2005 and they are still in the process of building new dorms and sports facilities. The teachers here actually want to help you succeed, unlike other colleges where they could care less if you attend class or not. With tuition a lot of things are included such as parking passes, membership to the rec center, and all home games for any sport are free to students (you even get points which earn you free stuff just for going to games!).

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is absolutely gorgeous in the summer, fall, and spring. There are a few cool looking buildings. Most of the classrooms are very modern, which I enjoy. They play new movies in the student union twice a week and have free bowling and pool as well as occasional special activities such as speakers, bands, poetry readings, and dances. The student wellness and rec center is VERY nice and large with a pretty cool indoor leisure pool.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors genuinely want to help you learn and will go out of their way to help you if asked. Classes are generally very small for a university. I have only had one class over 100 so far. Most of my classes have been in the 20-40 range.

Great for these types of students

If your an art major this is a great school. The art building is like it's own community. It is small so everyone knows everyone. And there are always cool shows and events going on. If your a student from a small town its also nice, because you get the experience of a big city during the day but at night it is like being home again with just some close friends. There are more commuters then residences so it tends to quiet down at night. But it's nice that it's not always to crazy busy. You are in Akron and it is a big city, but being at college is like being in a small town.

    Tips for prospective students

If your looking for a fun interactive community this is the college for you. There is something for everyone from sports, entertainment, to academics. No student is left out. Just make sure you study and work hard on all subjects. Don't slack and always pay attention. Only skip class if your seriously ill or if the teacher does not take attendance. Get to know your teachers and see what their limits are. Some teachers are really easy going and can become good friends. Professors are always willing to help especially during and after college. So don't hesitate to ask questions. But enjoy college make friends and get out there.

    Bang for the buck

You get your money for all the classes you take. The professors work hard on their lesson plans and some professors are on a very personal level with their students. All my art teachers had their students call them by their first name or a nickname. It was awesome.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere on campus is nice. Not to crazy about living situations. Bulger hall has 16 floors and fire drills suck but it is one of the cheapest. If you don't mind sharing showers with tons of people then it's for you. It's safe, good security, and there is always plenty to do.

    Am learning a lot

You learn a lot for your major in the first couple of years. I am an art major and was able to have many art classes in my first year along with completing some general education classes. You learn a lot in the short time you have in the classes and teachers are willing to help you learn and understand the material.

    Bang for the buck

Always keep your zipcard handy because without it you will be lost. If you're running late for class, you can jump on the roo express just show you zipcard as you enter. If you're hungry, feel free to grab something to eat at zees with your zipcard. If you need to print out a english paper then stop by the library where you can use your zipcrd to print at a low price.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm am definitely enjoying my time here so far, wouldn't rather be anywhere else. I love participating in student events, whether its finding out where Zippy is or attending their weekly movies in the Student Union.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students that enjoy a friendly environment. Those who don't mind people holding doors open for a perfect stranger, or professors that truly enjoy teaching. Students that want a teacher that knows what they are teaching, enjoys it, and truly wants to help each student do their best to succeed. This is also a great college for students that are looking for a large school, but still have smaller class sizes, and a group of people that they will be around more then others with their major. With the exception of some lectures, class sizes are about the same as an average high school class of around twenty to thirty students.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should be sure they have everything lined up and planned out before they start (like dining plans and dorm arrangements) to make the transition smoother. They should also have someone they can ask those little questions to that might pop up out of no where. An academic advisor is nice, but finding an older student with the same or similar major that one can talk to is nice for the questions that come out of no where like how a certain professor prefers a paper to be written.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive, but all colleges really are, however it is worth it in my opinion.

    Am enjoying being here

I live on campus and it is very convinient. I enjoy being able to just wake up and walk to class, because the dorm locations are ideal. It was very easy to choose a dorm close to where I knew I'd spend most of my time. Classes are enjoyable as well, even those that I worried I wouldn't enjoy. Of course the food must be mentioned too. At first it was difficult getting used to how the meal plans worked, but now it is very simple and convenient. There are locations to use meal swipes across campus with many different options which is nice because at anytime you want you can switch up what your eating. In general everyone here is kind as well. I haven't ran into rude people, it is a really nice environment to be in. Overall I really do enjoy being here

    Am learning a lot

I love all of my classes. Even the classes I am taking that I didn't really enjoy in high school, like various History courses, are pretty cool here. The professors know what they teach very well and are willing to help students if they need help.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is looking for a good education but might not have the means to pay for a private university should look into the University of Akron. It is great for students who like the feel of a traditional campus as well as those who prefer an urban feel. Downtown Akron is in view of the school but you still get the secluded feel of a campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour with an actual student rather than a University conducted tour. This way, you will be able to see what you will actually be experiencing. The tour guides that work for the school tend to show the brand new dorms and the best classrooms when, in reality, prospective students will not see those as freshman.

    Bang for the buck

Because it is a state university, Akron has very reasonable tuition. Students definitely get a quality education for a sensible price. The classes are challenging and the teachers know what they are talking about. There are also a lot of extras that are included in tuition including a bus line that has routes around campus.

    Am enjoying being here

There are plenty of things to do around campus from bowling to rock climbing and even free concerts. Students are constantly receiving emails about what is happening on campus. There is no time to be bored with so much going on around you.

    Am learning a lot

As a freshman, I was intimidated by the thought of college level courses. However, all of the classes move at a manageable pace and the instructors make it very easy to receive help if you need it.

Great for these types of students

I really think Akron could be a place for anyone. There are so many different types of people. You just have to make the most out of your college experience but make sure you don't waste your time or money! Good Luck!

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I would have is if your going to live in a dorm definitely meet your new roommate. I would say at least twice. It would make it less awkward. I would have your parents meet each other on move in day.(my roommates parents wouldn't talk to mine. I would of like for them to know who they are if we had problems.) Another thing is get involved, I know everyone says it but do. I had little amount of friends until I went Greek. Trust me everyone thinks its like the movies but its not. I have 60 sister that would do anything for me and I would do the same. We all have this bond. The last thing find people in your classes. its helps, I text most of them for help and then you don't have to sit alone either.

    Bang for the buck

I think that Akron is worth it. I am already taking classes for my major and loving it. I live in a dorm and I find that it is worth the experience the first year. You meet new people and learn so much from it. You also has a student union where there things like free bowling and movie for the students. They also do some free events too. They are all great.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to school at Akron because I have made life long friendships. I can always count on this people. Also that my class work keeps me busy but since it's working towards my major; i love all of it. Plus you will never be bored. Akron has many wonderful events.

    Am learning a lot

I feel as being a student of the University of Akron, I have learned a lot. You find that the classes are going to be harder but you get more information than high school. The professor go more in depth with the course. You learn that more of the learning comes from you than the professor. Another thing is that you really start to learn more about yourself because you have to do everything on your own. You become more independent.

Anyone can take advantage of the opprotunity. International, traditional, disabled, commuting, working parents, grandparents even. There are programs for almost everyone. Classes are offered both day & evening. Now, there are some local highschools who offer college classes. Something you have to look into.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you want to do before you start. College is a huge step. If it is not what you want, look for other options. When you get there, stick to your plan & make sure it is realistic. They offer services for career planning. Follow your dreams! I started out in an unrealistic dream, but I am following my realistic dream. It is something I am good at. That is the key I have found, to my success.

    Bang for the buck

University of Akron offers many services & programs. it is up to you to utilize them. There are also services & plans for those who are not quite college material. It is up to the individual to find it & ask many questions.

    Am enjoying being here

There is a wonderful recreation center on campus. Discounts are provided throughout the city fro U of A students. Local theatres, churches, etc get involved in our school. Businesses are honored when a student wants to volunteer their time, or Interview the staff. There are also the special events throughout campus. Do not forget out wonderful steel drun band!

    Am learning a lot

Our professors are very experienced in their fields. They emphasize taking control of our education. When entering your actual major, experience & practice is emphasized.

Students who are independent that are not scared of the responsibility of campus life. Getting from one place to another is all on you--no parent to help you here. My focus is engineering and, from what I have heard, there is a pretty good program at the University of Akron.

    Tips for prospective students

Be organized and know how to manage your time. I had to learn the campus before I went to my first class. You do not think the campus is large until you have a class at one end and your next class is at the other end of the campus.

    Bang for the buck

I am using a public school scholarship right now, but when I check the costs for next year, it will not be too bad. I do not have to live on campus, so that helps out with the overall cost.

    Am enjoying being here

It is exciting to be on a campus while I am still in high school. I enjoy the freedom that you do not have in a K-12 school.

    Am learning a lot

It is a nice campus, but I worry about all the crime. I guess it is everywhere though. Most of my professors are pretty good, some are hard to understand because of their particular accents.

There are many professional performances held at the university including but not limited to musicals, concerts, comedy shows, and business speakers. I would recommend taking advantage of the student union to enjoy some bowling, pool, and the cheap theatre they offer to show movies on. Additionally, the recreation center offers gyms to workout in, racquetball courts, indoor tennis courts, swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, and even an indoor track on the top floor.

    Food and Dining

There are several places to eat on and right near the campus. Most restaurants in the area accept your student id (zip card) as a form of payment. I believe the selection of foods in and around the campus is quite abundant.

Overall the university has a great selection of classes and a vast array of very knowledgeable professors. I believe you learn a great deal of information in your classes. The knowledge I have learned from this university will help me with life.

The University of Akron has a state of the art campus with all the technology you could need at your disposal. The staff is very knowledgeable and are experts in their subject matter. I believe some of the older staff could be a little more helpful when explaining things instead of just assuming students know everything ahead of time.

the university of akron is frequently listening to student ideas to improve campus life and continuing to make students feel at home. with the excellence, opportunity, and energy the university of akron has to offer only we as students can embrace its future.

    What to do for fun

there is always something to do when students aren’t buried in their books. the university of akron has partnered with e.j. thomas hall to create activities such as boo at the roo, casino night, magicians, comedians, and the performing arts. the student union offers a game room, movie theater, planet underground, and musical performances at starbucks. the game room includes a bowling center and billiards while the movie theater hosts different movies every weekend. planet underground is a store where you can purchase or rent movies, games, and music. active students may like zumba, the rock climbing wall, and intramural sports the student recreation center offers. there is also a lazy river, whirlpool, and spa for those who like to be in the water. with all these activities on campus there will never be a dreary moment!

the academic rigor depends on which classes you take and which teachers you have. only you know how much you can handle. take the amount of credits you’re comfortable with so you can handle all the classes and maintain good grades. no teacher is easier than the other. teachers have different styles of teaching and the ones that love the opportunity to embrace the learning of young men and women will show it in their work. bierce library offers a math, tutoring, and writing lab if students need extra help.

    Tips for prospective students

if looking for a campus with a small student to teacher ratio this is it. freshman classes can be large due to everyone having to take the basics, but once those are finished teachers will have more one on one opportunities with students. my advice to incoming students would be to never give up. college takes an enormous amount of dedication and can be stressful, but once you receive your diploma everything will be worth it.

There is also a police escort program for those students that do not feel safe walking alone at night.

Depending on your major, there are plenty of other student organizations to find out about on the school's SOURCE and OrgSync websites that list all of the difference organizations students can join on-campus.

Great for these types of students

The University of Akron is great for any type of student in my opinion. There are multiple majors to chose from, the school is a Division I NCAA school in terms of intercollegiate athletics, and the student body is very diverse in terms of ethnicity and gender so there should be no problems for students finding new friends at Akron.

    Campus Safety

I would rate The Univerity of Akron's campus a four out of five. UA does go through many precautions to ensure the students are unharmed, including: UA campus patrol, police officers around campus, emergency buttons across campus, etc. Although, I have received emails about numerous robberies and students held at gunpoint, many of these occurred in the middle of the night or in a secluded and unsafe part of Akron. I have never had any issues with robberies, stalkers, etc., and feel safe and sound while on The University of Akron's campus.

    Greek Life

I have many friends who are actively involved in The University of Akron's Greek life. UA offers twelve fraternity options, as well as, five sorority choices. Greek Life can be an awesome way to get involved in campus activities, get to know new people, and really feel like one is a part of the school.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities offered by The University of Akron seem to go over well with the students. Although, I have not participated in every single event, I have been to a handful. These activities often involve free food, coupons, gift cards, notebooks, and even music, all of which intrigue any college student.

Great for these types of students

The University of Akron can be an excellent fit for any student looking to pursue a higher education. Throughout my years, I have interacted with high school students (in PSEOP), all of the way up to fifty and sixty years old. This school offers many options to accommodate a plethora of students, including disabilities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The University of Akron has many traditions that are specific to its' campus, including: the painting a large rock, the infamous Buchtel Hall building, and of course, UA's mascot Zippy.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Akron's tuition costs are definitely reasonable and I believe for the most part students are getting what they pay for. The only times when students are wasting their money, is when they do not apply themselves to their studies.

    What to do for fun

The University of Akron offers many different outlets for students to relax and have fun. Some of these activities involve: The Spring Fest, band concerts, the rec center, observing ice sculpting during the winter season, fraternities and sororities, sporting games, The Family Fun Festival, and many more.

    Food and Dining

Over the past semesters, I have dined at many different places, most of which are located in the campus' Student Union. My favorite places to eat lunch are: Auntie Annes, The Market, and Subway. If I am on the go and do not have time to sit, I often will grab a snack from Zees. Although I do not have a package with Robs, I have heard that the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.

    Dorm Life

Although I personally do not live on The University of Akron's main campus, I have heard from a variety of people that the dorms are nice. I know a couple students who live in the honors dorms, and have heard that those are especially large and comfortable.

    Academic Rigor

I believe the University of Akron takes its academic rigor seriously, as their goal is to see students succeed. Professors want to see their pupils ace their class, however, because it is not always possible, they do in fact stick to the rules of the college.

    Tips for prospective students

I would encourage prospective students to take a tour of The University of Akron's main campus, as it would be beneficial for students to see the infamous Bierce Library, the Recreational Center, the Student Union, and what dorm life would be like. Other ideas involve talking with faculty and advisors about the programs being offered, in order to gauge if the University of Akron is a proper fit for the student.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron has many great benefits, including: a large and beautiful campus, a free recreational center, live events, free tutoring services, a wide variety of delicious foods, encouraging professors, and more. Over the past three years, I have gotten to know many of the faculty and advisors, and really enjoy their compassion and sincerity. I believe The University of Akron is an excellent college, looking to education a plethora of citizens.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is one of the most important things students need to consider. Akron is unfortunately placed in a poorer end of town which consequently results in a higher crime rate than other colleges. Fortunately for students, Akron has considered this and given students more than enough safety tools such as the Roo Express, campus police, and hotlines for students to call if they need someone to pick them up or walk them home.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It may not be unusual, but Akron always has a ton of festivals and events going on through out the year and into the summer. It is impossible to have a bad time at these events.

    What to do for fun

Akron has so much to offer students when it comes to extra curriculars. For example, the Rec is always packed with people working out, renting basketball courts, swimming, ect. They even offer intermural teams as well as off campus activities like canoeing and rock climbing.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are incredible. The buffet style halls are the best and having a zipcard really expands dining options for students. With the zipcard students can go to restaurants such as starbucks and subway and charge the amounts to their meal plans.

    Dorm Life

Again, I have not attended yet, but from what I have seen with friends and tours, dorm life seems to be one of the best qualities Akron has to offer. Dorms are spacious, there seems to always be a new residance hall being built and especially for freshman, the dorms are where many will meet their new best friends.

    Academic Rigor

Though I have not attended this college yet, I have had many friends who have attended the University of Akron. I believe the academics to be challenging but nothing unmanagable. Most students would be content with the academics as long as they stay focused on school rather than socializing.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip for prospective students is to not base their decisions about attending UA off of other peoples word. Any student who is considering Akron should schedule a college visit and check out the campus themselves. It is much easier to see yourself at this college once you have interacted with the people and places on campus.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is an ideal college for students who want the big campus look but the small community feel to it. This college is growing very quickly and is completely focused on making college life better for its students. Akron is a very nurturing school where all of its students have an equal opportunity to work on their educations.

    Dorm Life

I have not been a part of dorm life at the University of Akron. I have been inside Spicer and the Honors Dorm and I am thoroughly impressed with all that the campus has to offer with on-campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

YOU CHOOSE HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR CLASSES! This is completely independent on the individual - you could be taking multiple classes or combining college with a part time or full time job. I would recommend talking to the professors and the upper classmen of your intended major and ask them about their experiences with their course load. There are free tutoring sessions in the Bierce Library just north of the Student Union that will get any questions answered that cannot be answered during lectures.

    Tips for prospective students

Akron is a little confusing to get around, so give yourself about half an hour on campus to find your class. Never pass up an opportunity - leave your comfort zone and meet some really cool individuals.

Walking with a group a friends at night is always encouraged if you're going to be out at night. I personally drive but shall you choose to walk at night always be safe and the police will even escort you. You just have to call them and ask them to.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm a club person myself. There are a lot of different places to go downtown Akron. You'll find on the weekends there are a lot of different things to do, the club is always an option but there are always people having sets at their homes where you can just sit relax and meet new people as I said before. 1 really cool thing is that the roo goes downtown on the weekend. So if you don't feel like driving or don't have a car you can always ride the roo.

But if you're really looking for something where you can have access to Subway the market and so on etc I hear the Gold Plan is just one step up from the Unlimited dining plan and you have access to many fast food restaurants.

    Dorm Life

I currently live off campus but in my experience of the dorm life it was a great experience. Living in the dorms really helps you to get out and attend many activities. It also helps you with meeting new great people. Lifetime friends and aasociates many whom you'll find yourself speaking with outsidelow on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The metroparks run through Akron and there is a zoo downtown as well. The nightlife is a lot of fun and within a few blocks walking distance from campus to the major downtown night clubs. Akron is also only about an hour from downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is standard university food with a medium range of choices. A sushi bar was just recently added and that was a great addition to add variety to the food court called the Market. The prices are a little high for the quality of food, especially if you do not have a meal plan with the university. There are a large variety of off-campus establishments that take our university zip cards for payment, which is really nice for students who live on campus.

    Dorm Life

I live off-campus, so I am not sure.

    Academic Rigor

Dependent upon the major the classes can be tough but usually only once you have reached the 400 level courses. As with any institution you will get out what you put into your schoolwork, if you want that good grade, regardless of the professor or workload, you must put in the time. Be sure to establish a relationship with your professor, this will let them know that you want to learn and most of the time they will be more willing to help you. Check out ratemyprof.com to read student reviews on every faculty member on campus. It helps when determining which classes to take and with which professors.

    Dorm Life

I can't give an exact rating of the schools dorm life since I do not live in one at the school, but I know there are some amazing beautiful looking dorms and housing that are very nice. Tips for prospective students

Some tips I would give some prospective students trying or thinking of attending this college is to just go for a visit. There is nothing more reassuring then going to a college when trying to choose the right one for you. Finally if possible take a look at the atmosphere around you and see if you will feel comfortable being at that institution.

On campus I feel 100% safe, UA has a great police deparment. They also have a partnership with the Akron police department for those living off campus.

There are so many clubs you can join. Really anything you like they probably have a club for and if they don't you can start one. Last year I joined the karate club and video game club. This year I joined the pharmacy club and haven't decided whatelse to join.

I live right by the football/soccer stadium. I joined the AK rowdies group, they are a group of students that go to the various sporting events. I do not go to all of the events, but it is fun when I get to go. EJ Thomas hall is unique to Akron, they host many music groups and entertainment from all over.

    Bang for the buck

I wasn't sure where I wanted to go to college. I looked at many in Ohio. I couldn't decide. My older brother was at UA he really liked it, so I decided to go to UA also. My parents encouraged my to try living in dorm. I met a lot of friends living in the dorms. The classes are not that big, so it wasn't overwhelming my first year.

    What to do for fun

The rec. center is alot of fun, rock climbing, lazy river, big pool, whirlpool. The student union has a movie theater, bowling, pool and food! EJ Thomas Hall is on campus, there a lot of programs there from comdians, magicians to plays.

    Food and Dining

I have the gold plan, so my spending is really flexible. I can eat on campus or off campus at many places. I can also go to Dave's supermarket or Giant Eagle and use my UA gold plan car to buy food. They have transportation to Dave's if you don't have car.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are really nice. This is my second year in Spicer Hall, I like it mainly because there are 2 people to a room and share one bathroom. There are really nice common rooms on each floor with game tables and flat screen TV's. Also study rooms on each floor if you want it quiet.

    Academic Rigor

Akron may get a bad rap for safety but that's just a stereotype of the city, not reality. There's plenty of campus and dorm security, not just anyone can walk into the dorms. If there's ever a problem there are emergency telephones placed all around campus, I usually pass at least one while walking to a class. I feel very safe here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a wide range of clubs everyone is sure to find something the enjoy. From the most popular club being the AK Rowdies to the more obscure such as the anime club.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's a big rock that was split in half located in the middle of campus. If you walk between the two halves of the rock during finals week, you are guaranteed good luck.

    Bang for the buck

The reason people turn to higher education, is to open themselves up to a higher paying job. Education is an investment, that you hope to get a return on plus more. Akron helps their students achieve this, they offer lifelong career support services for their students.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs and intermurals! The AK Rowdies are the university's most popular club, they cheer on all the schools sports teams. There are plenty of other clubs and volunteer activities to suit any student.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of dining options at The University of Akron, the most popular being Rob's cafe - the universities main dining hall. The food at Rob's is great, most is made to order and you will never run out of options here. Most other places on campus accept meal plans including: Subway, Auntie Annes, Ohio Burger Company, Summit Bistro, Trackside Grill and Union Market.

    Dorm Life

It's very easy to meet people in the dorms, in fact if you live in a dorm that's probably where you'll meet most of the people you know. Living here is very safe, there's plenty of security to make sure not just anyone can walk into one. Most of all they're a fun place to live.

    Academic Rigor

The standard classes freshman take aren't unexpectedly hard. There will be much more to work on outside of class compared to highschool but the material isn't significantly harder. As long as students put a reasonable amount of effort into their work, they should make a reasonable grade.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus to make sure you feel at home when you are here, and be aware a lot of students attending this school are commuters. It's not expensive to have a car on campus, and I would reccomend bringing one. It won't be the end of the world if you don't although if you want to go to concerts, the groccery store, or anyother type of resteraunt/shop you probably won't be able to get there by walking.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron will probably be great for you if you're from the area, and know a few people going here. It is a somewhat commuter campus, which makes it a little more difficult to meet people. On a positive note, the people are friendly, the class sizes are small and the professors are helpful.

    Food and Dining

There's a lot to choice from when you hungry. The places are all spread out though. Some are bunched togeter but others are farther out from the university.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are pretty nice. It's cheaper to stay off, but close to campus. Its a safe environment.

    Academic Rigor

Programs like nursing and engineering are really good here. Some professors are kind of snotty. This is a harder school academically.

    Tips for prospective students

It's not hard to get accepted here. If you did really bad in high school, they probably won't take you. So keep your grades up.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of sororities and fraternities for students to choose from. They do a great job with recruiting at the beginning of the year.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs that I found it difficult to keep up with one that suited me, though I'm sure there were several. There always seem to be programs and activities going on around campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's a large rock outside the back of the Student Union. Students enjoy decorating this rock with spray paint so it is constantly changing pictures and colors over night. The rumor is that the rock has doubled it's size with so many layers upon layers of paint.

    What to do for fun

Downtown Akron is easily within walking distance. There is always something to do there if you feel that you don't want to participate in the many programs and activities that are constantly happening throughout campus.

    Food and Dining

The University is expanding the offered dining options. It is usually very good food, though the variety could use some expansion.

    Dorm Life

The University of Akron is working hard to make things more comfortable for the students who decide to stay on campus rather than commute. The rooms are comfortable, the buildings are cleaned regularly and security is definitely enough.

    Academic Rigor

Most professors are of high quality, always teaching what is in the curriculum by the book. Occasionally, there is the instructor that you'll learn to avoid but overall everyone seems qualified.

    Campus Safety

The campus police do an incredible job of ensuring the safety of all students.

    Greek Life

From being apart of the Greek community, I can attest that joining a sorority has been the best decision of my collegiate career. I have made so many new friends, been exposed to new opportunities, and feel like I have found the perfect place where I belong. There's a home for everyone in the Greek Life at UA!

Great for these types of students

Anybody and everybody! There truly is something for everybody, and I guarantee that you can find your spot here on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Akron is a great option for a small school feel, while you're really attending a large university. There is so much offered besides educational opportunities, it'll exceed your expectations.

    What to do for fun

What isn't there to do? Hang out in the Student Union, or hit the gym! Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night a movie is shown in the theater in the Union. There is also a game room complete with bowling and billiards. Or check out one of the over 200 student organizations! Likewise, a very active Greek life is waiting to welcome you to the Greek community! There's a little bit of everything, and something or everyone.

    Food and Dining

Rob's is the main dining hall at UA. For one swipe of your card (off of your meal plan) you're welcomed to a buffet of an abundance of food choices. Don't feel like eating in the dining room? Then take your Rob's to go! Also available are an even wider variety of dining options in the Student Union, from Subway to the Union Market. If you're ever in need of a convenience store type run, check out Zee's at their two convenient locations.

    Dorm Life

There are many options for room and board. From dorms to apartments to housing, there is some of everything. No matter what you're looking for you'll be able to find it here. With in building laundry, (some) in room bathrooms, and enough space for appliances and even a TV in your room, there's not much to complain about!

    Academic Rigor

While some majors are harder than others, you'll have a wide variety of difficultly in your classes. For example, a speech class will be much easier than organic chemistry. However, I see this as a positive. You'll be challenged in any class you take, but not every class will be a heavy burden you're entire educational experience. It all depends on what you choose to do, but like any university you will be challenged in different ways.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of everything offered to you! Whether it be the free tutoring, access to the rec, or joining a club sport, the University of Akron is what you make it.

    In three sentences

The food here is awesome. Robs cafe and track side are my favorite. If you don't like eating on campus, the campus is surrounded by many fast food places around you that a person might enjoy.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

The academics here are very helpful. I started off in a lower math class and it actually helped me and build my math skills so I could be prepared for the harder math courses.

    Tips for prospective students

Just because you might not get a credit for a class that is recommended that you take you still want to take it seriously because it still impacts your GPA which is very important when it comes to college.

    Food and Dining

Depending on your meal there are some really good places to eat on campus. If you have a traditional meal plan your options are limited unfortunately but if you have a Gold plan you can pretty much eat anywhere on campus and a few places off campus. The only not so great thing about college dining is that you sometimes get tired of always eating the same things.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is fun but can also be stressful at times. There are so many amazing people to meet. Although living in a dorm isn't cheap, it really is a great experience.

Great for these types of students

Student that like the city life, but do not necessarily love the huge crowds associated with big cities and large campuses.

    Bang for the buck

This is a reasonable school, though a bit in the mid-range for a state public school.

    What to do for fun

The campus offers free movies with your card, as well as, special events corresponding to holidays and nationally recognized weeks such as China week.

    Food and Dining

A great selection, and most is priced reasonably to allow a college student with a tight wallet to still eat.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes are challenging enough for you to know you are learning something, but not too hard as to make you have a nervous breakdown every couple days. The amount of credit hours is a good reflection of the amount of work needed for the class.

    Tips for prospective students

Locate your building for classes on the map (and your parking if you are a commuter) before the first day of class. Perhaps even walk the campus.

Class sizes are typically larger and the instructors are not as tenured as they were at the private school. While the demands are not as great, the expectations are...you will need to study and attend classes, and you will find then to be interesting and time well spent.

    Tips for prospective students

Make a list of what is important to you while attending college. It should include on campus and off campus activities that are important to you. Tips for prospective students

This college is great for shy students who have a hard time meeting new people. Akron offers plenty of opportunities to meet other students in fun environments that limit awkwardness. Campus Safety

There are buzzers all over campus that send a call directly to the campus police, which is very nice. But, because you are on the edge of downtown Akron, there are, of course, unpleasant people. As long as you stay on campus you feel very safe. Once you venture on the outskirts of campus it gets a little scary.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an endless list of clubs and organizations. They are all great. Its a great opportunity to get involved on campus and to make new friends.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy making new friends, sports, great scenic views around the area, and for students that want just the right mix of education and fun.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition has increased steadily for the past couple of years because they are adding so many new buildings to the campus. This is okay if you use those buildings, or live in the new dorms. I don't personally get to use anything other than the new stadium so I don't particularly care for the increase in tuition for new buildings. It's standard price for classes, some are worth the money, and some I regret paying for because I didn't enjoy it or learn anything.

    What to do for fun

There is a brand new stadium on the heart of the campus, plenty of sporting events that take place on campus, there is greek life, a club or organization for just about anything you can think of, great dining experiences and clubbing just down the road, and E.J. Thomas Hall where local and national celebrities come to do shows.

    Food and Dining

Akron has a pretty decent variety of places to eat and choices of what to eat. Akron has really taken into consideration other cultures and has a variety of foods to choose from. Although if you try to eat at lunch time on a weekday, be prepared for long lines.

    Dorm Life

It all depends where you stay. I've heard some great things about the newer more expensive dorms, and some not so good things about the older dorms on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are pretty standard. Some classes are hard, some are easy. It depends on your willingness to study and take part in the class, and it depends on the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students is to enjoy the campus as much as you can. With an all-star soccer team and a brand new stadium, there is so much to do here. Take time to make friends, because there are so many interesting people from all over the world that come to the University of Akron. Being in the heart of downtown Akron, there is a never ending list of festivities, events, and other things to do.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron has a beautiful college campus with a lot of great new additions. Akron is always trying to improve the campus for its students and faculty, and make efforts to be more environmentally friendly to the earth. I would rate the University of Akron highly for its efforts to have a beautiful campus and fantastic organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

    Bang for the buck

Akron is a really affordable school and they were also very generous with scholarships for me personally. You have to put in effort to get the most out of it, but as long as you take initiative and take advantage of opportunities, you'll go far.

    What to do for fun

The student union has a game room and a theater with free movies if you're looking to stay on campus. Downtown Akron is close, and there are plenty of clubs and bars, as well as seasonal events. The rec center has free classes, and it's fun to go with friends.

    Food and Dining

A lot of variety and generally good food. Zee's is a handy convenience store with affordable coffee. There are three Starbucks locations on campus, if that's your thing. Einstein Bros., Subway, Ohio Burger, and Auntie Anne's are all good chains on campus. Campus food is pretty good, though I don't eat in the dining halls a lot.

    Dorm Life

I expect it's about on par with most colleges, but I don't live in a dorm. There are some different options (singles, apartment-style) depending on your year and things, so I would check it out.

    Academic Rigor

None of my courses have been too stressful, but I try to put a lot into them. As with most things, it depends on the professor. Most of my professors have been great, and I've learned a lot in many courses.

    Tips for prospective students

Take initiative: apply for scholarships, research your department, ask questions. You can get a lot of scholarships if you try. Don't let your advisor shuffle you down the beaten path if you don't want to go â?? you may have to be pushy about what you want, so be honest.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron has a beautiful campus and a lot to offer, but you get what you give. Sometimes it feels like the university is moving slowly in a fast-changing world. The professors, however, are great and usually very helpful.

    Campus Safety

The safety at many Universities are actually better than expected. Although you are independent there are police patrolling on campus and near off campus to ensure the safety of fellow students attending the college. My campus for an example has phones spread throughout the campus in case of emergency. This is nice because you may not always have your phone on your and if you have night classes it can come in handy. Any student can sign up for text or alerts through email to inform if there has been a kidnapping or a robbery or a shooting or whatever the case may be within minus of it happening so you know what is going on at all times. Many Universities do come on campus and patrol there to in case of anything. So all in all it is very safe place to be, no worries but you should always take precautions and watch yourself in any situation.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many activities and clubs for everyone to be apart of. I encourage every student to be apart of a club. I never realized how many different clubs and activities the University of Akron holds. The neat thing about the clubs and activities that a college hold is that the students are the leaders of it. They are responsible for what goes on. If there was a club that you wanted to be part of you could do that, you can be the leader of your own club. With the helps of other students you could create something great. I myself is in a few clubs which i am happy to be in because it taught me to be more responsible and to communicate with others and meet new people with the same interest.

Great for these types of students

If you do not want to join the army and not in JROTC but love to shoot there are many schools that have division one rifle teams. There is much to do. You get to go to different states to shoot and compete with nationally ranked shooters. If you do not like the competitiveness to it, you there is also rifle clubs in many Universities that have clubs you can shoot with. They can go to matches as well and have fun and practice without being part of the JROTC or the army.

    What to do for fun

There is a variety of things to do at your college which are fun and relaxing. At a University there is a recreational area for one to go to which has much to do. Where I attend there is all sports games you can play, a workout area and a swimming pool to relax in. There is a variety for all to go and have fun. Each University is different but such things include theaters to watch movies or bowling alleys and areas to play pool to. All of these activities are offered to many Universities and are free, just need your ID. Off campus you can go to the movies, have a get together, or go to restaurants or malls near the campus.

    Food and Dining

The Dining plan was something i found to be very convient and helpful. This was a wonderful thing because I could just go and pick something up from one of the stores around campus when I didn't have time between classes. The meal plan was not very expensive considering how much food you were able to get and the convenience of it. Another great thing about the meal plan is that it is a great way to hang out and enjoy a great meal. Or you can even meet new people there. The food is always fresh and they have a variety of different meals that are loved by many

    Dorm Life

The dorm life was a wonderful experience for me. It was the best decision I made for many reasons. When you are in a dorm you find others who are in the same boat as you are in. You meet so many people this way. Another thing i found to be nice about the dorm life was that this was a good time to find people in my major and seek help. There was a nice study area for all of us to work at quietly with comfortable furniture.

    Academic Rigor

Being involved helps you better yourself in many different areas of communication, responsibility and a learning experience beyond what is easy. This can be anything weather it is pushing yourself in a club, sport or a class or an activity, dieting. This is when you are your best or can make yourself better and accomplish more with hard work and dedication. We push ourselves beyond our individual limits in order to get better at something. I learned that being involved makes me feel happy and accomplished. It helps me meet new people and get the experience i will need for everyday life.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students would be to go into the major you love and want to be in. You need to find a major you desire and stick with it. Another tip is to study hard and stay on top of things but to also enjoy yourself. Have fun, this is a wonderful experience to travel and do different things. To find yourself and get out. The last tip is to be involved and organized. By doing this, you will learn who to seek out for help and who to get it from. Being independent and working hard will get you far.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron has provided me with many wonderful opportunities and a welcoming place to attend. The University has much to offer me because of their different programs and with the abundance amount of people wanting to help me. Although at times it may be a struggle to be a college student i would never go anywhere else.

    What to do for fun

There are so many events and activities that go on on-campus, you will almost never have nothing to do. I highly suggest getting involved in everything you can, especially greek-life.

    Food and Dining

Freshmen dining plans are a bit limited, but are mandatory. You have a choice between 19 meals per week, 12 meals per week, and unlimited. The 19 and 12 plans include Robs all you can eat Cafe and Trackside Grill. The unlimited plan only includes Robs. I will tell you right now that you will get sick of eating Robs day after day, but that could just be me.

    Dorm Life

I would definitely recommend South or Spicer Hall. They are a bit farther away from central campus, but the rooms and living conditions are just so much nicer.

    Academic Rigor

You will need to work hard in any college you attend. Studying is a MUST or you WILL fail. The suggested study time is 2 hours for every hour of class. Obviously, that is a little ridiculous for some people, but you should at least try to meet the goal of 2 hours per class hour. The classes and professors will provide you with everything you need to succeed; it is left up to you to use it.

    Tips for prospective students

The University of Akron itself is a very beautiful and safe campus; however, the city itself can be very dangerous in certain areas. Be aware of where you are.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is a fantastic, fun, and safe learning environment for students. The professors and staff here make it their responsibility to guarantee student success. The campus itself is absolutely beautiful.

Our police on campus do an amazing job alerting us when something goes wrong on campus. I feel safe, and other students do to. Just use common sense.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is pretty good. I never once felt unsafe or threatened (which is saying a lot because it is Akron). They have emergency towers all over the place. All you have to do is push a button and campus security is there very soon. The campus could use a couple more lights at night but overall it is a safe environment.

    Greek Life

I have no personal experience with Greek Life but a girl in my dance class has had experience and she didn't have any major complaints.

    Clubs and Activities

Kind of similar to my comment of Great for these types of students but there are a ton of clubs! Not all of them require a lot of your time either. There are clubs for those excel academically (or even not excel but are interested in the subject). There are outdoor activities offered at the Rec (Gym). They also have group exercise classes in doors like yoga or strength classes. The Chapel has activities as well. The Chapel is a baptist church that a lot of University of Akron students go to. For those students that are more chill they can do that in the game room playing bowling with some friends.

Great for these types of students

There is a place for everyone at Akron. There is Greek Life (not my thing-too expensive), sports events and inner campus sports, the Chapel right off campus (it's a Baptist church great for college students) and just about every club. There's of course all the subject related clubs like biology or chemistry. There are also the clubs for the other spectrum of psychology and exercise science.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This may not be the smartest thing in Akron but I enjoy taking walks at night in the warmer months around campus (not outside campus). On nights with a cool breeze it's so relaxing which is definitely a good break during big study times.

    Bang for the buck

Most of the costs for the university are reasonable. All the fun stuff previously mentioned (bowling alley, movies, billards) are free. The only things I would say that should be better priced are the meal plans and the normal college complaint of the book prices.

    What to do for fun

There are free movies for students at the Student Union at least 2 times a week. They are all newer movies too (out within the last couple of months in theaters). There is a 6 lane bowling alley and over 8 billard tables for free as well. Though not always free (when not free there is sometimes a student discount) there are shows that play at E.J. Thomas. The shows range from orchestras to traveling broadway musicals to dance performances. Of course there are the sports events that most colleges have too.

    Food and Dining

The food at the main restaurant, Rob's Cafe, where a lot of the residents go has a variety of food. They have pizza, a salad bar, a vegetarian selection, asian and different main dishes. However, after eating anything for a year it can be annoying to have to continue eating it. All the students who live in the dorms have to have a meal plan- a rather expensive one. Around campus there are a lot of good restaurants. Jimmy Johns, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Starbucks, DQ and a couple other places are in easy walking distance. A little further from campus (10 minutes) is a Chipotle, Olive Garden, Panera, Chick-fil-a, Outback, Jimmy Johns (a different one) and more typical restaurants you find by a mall.

    Dorm Life

I was in a dorm that badly needed remodeled and they are doing that now. So although my experience wasn't five stars the other/very new dorms are awesome. They also have a variety of activities in the dorms ranging from entertainment shows to video game competitions.

    Academic Rigor

The classes and their difficulty are parallel to the number of credit hours and length into your major. My classes that are very important to my major proved to be more difficult as opposed to my general education requirements that still required work but not nearly the same study hours.

    Tips for prospective students

I would highly recommend going to see an academic advisor. Even if it's not directly related to classes or scheduling they will find the answer for you. Not to mention help you stay on track with your classes and graduation plan.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is an amazing school. The advisors and professors really make an effort to help you and answer any questions you may have. I've never been so excited to start another year of school.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is incredible we have our own campus police force that patrols the campus all hours of the day and night. Rarely do you hear of anybody being harmed on campus. The campus police department is also located on campus and is easily accessible if there is an issue.

    Greek Life

Tons of fraternities and sororities that offer awesome friendships and activities. Hang out with friends, go to great parties, do service opportunities, etc. There really is no limit of what you can do in Greek Life. Not to mention that we are a HAZING FREE CAMPUS!

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of intramural sports offered at the University of Akron held in our state of the art fitness center that is FREE to full time students. There are also so many club sports ranging from Baseball to even Rugby! Activities are endless and there are even more clubs than that! Akron offers something for everybody, and everybody should join a club.

Great for these types of students

Akron is good for all types of students especially those that don't want a school that is too big or too small. It has a warm friendly feel about it but it is still much bigger than high school and is a much welcomed change. It is a school for engineers because of our top notch engineering programs. It is also for those students who are trying to find what they love to do. Akron fits many personalities and it looks different for everybody.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sumnerfest is awesome big parties lots of people tons of fun. Greek life parties that always rock. Springfest - concerts and awesome activities during spring break

    Bang for the buck

Akron is a very reasonably priced school for the level of education and additional perks you receive. Akron, unlike big schools like OSU and Duke, puts its students first instead of business. The University of Akron is committed to tapping into the potential of every student without breaking the bank. I am very happy with the pricing and there are so many scholarship opportunities.

    What to do for fun

There are endless possibilities at the university. There are always shows and concerts on the weekend at EJ Thomas hall. The Union Movie theater plays free movies every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Greek life is really fun and always have the best events. All the social groups have their own events planned during the week an on weekends. Go to Zips sporting events and cheer on the best soccer team in the nation!

    Food and Dining

There are hundreds of food choices at the University of Akron. From big chains like Subway and Starbucks to our own personal eateries like Robertson's Cafe and the Union Market. The campus is also surrounded with fast food restaurants and dine in restaurants like BW3s and the House of Hunan.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is awesome! I am currently a resident of the Honors Complex and I love it. In my belief I think all students should live on campus at Akron. It completely changes the experience. You will meet lifelong friends. Have amazing RA's that will help you in any way possible, and have special events that only residents can go to.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Akron has become one of the fastest growing universities over the past years in Ohio for a reason. Our class rigor has been recently raised to OSU standards with the addition of former Buckeye Football Coach Jim Tressel spear heading the turn around for education at Akron. If you are a STEM major GO TO AKRON!!!!! Our engineering program produces students that have been said are better than Case students by numerous employers. We have an awesome Co-op and internship program that has helped the majority of our engineering graduates find work right out of the program as well as making a salary starting on average at $60,000! Also apply to the Honors College it has great benefits and it looks awesome on a resume.

    Tips for prospective students

I would highly recommend living on campus. I currently live on campus and it is really a wonderful experience. I get to meet new people everyday and be involved in activities that regular commuting students don't get to experience. JOIN THE AK-ROWDIES! The Ak-Rowdies is the group that attends all sporting events and it is the largest student organization at the university. It is a lot of fun to go to any sporting event with these guys! After your first I Believe That We Have Won! chant you will be hooked. Take advantage of the library! It is an awesome resource for reports and essays as well as finding books for pleasure. **I recommend Looking For Alaska by John Green Join a student group! Don't become a ghost in college join the hundreds of groups that are available at the University of Akron. They are all very fun and I guarantee they have one that is perfect for you.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is a warm, safe, and inviting campus. The faculty at the University of Akron are the very best and are committed to giving your student with the best education possible. The University of Akron isn't just a college, it is a community and I am proud to call Akron my home.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is very good. There are blue security poles all around campus. You can actually you can stand anywhere on campus and see at least one of these poles. If you need to use Akron police patrol all around campus and around the dorms near the edge of campus to make sure that nothing is happening. i feel very safe in the environment that Akron has provided me.

    Greek Life

I am currently a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and I have loved every minute of it. the guys are really nice and helpful. Though different from most social fraternities, we stress more academics. for example, you need a 2.5 GPA to be considered to join. Then every week we have study tables to do homework and whatever else we may need to do. All in all I am very happy with the greek life on Akron's campus.

    Clubs and Activities

One of the groups that I am involved with on campus is the AK-Rowdies. This is basically a group that goes to all the sporting events and cheers on UA. I have had a lot of fun going to all the games and cheering them on. I especially like going to soccer games because they won the national championship two years ago, and always give a good show when they play at home.

Great for these types of students

To me Akron will fit any type of student. There is something for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

Akron may look somewhat expensive but there is always scholarship opportunities to help you with tuition. Then all the services that you get from your tuition is definitely worth it. Such as a bus system that will take you anywhere around campus that you need to go which is free with a student ID. Also, all sporting events are free to students with a valid UA ID.

    What to do for fun

What I do a lot for fun is I will go see the movies at the student union or i will go to the game room and play pool or go bowling. Which is all free with a student ID. Or I will go to the rec and play racquetball with some of my friends, climb the rock climbing wall or lift with some friends.

    Food and Dining

There are many dining choices in and around campus. The student union houses a cafe, subway, starbucks, and an ohio burger which are all awesome. then there are a great deal of chain restaurants right across the street from the university. Some include Euro Gyro, Buffalo Wild Wings, Taco Bell, and Mcdonalds. Then a short two minute drive downtown and you have all the restaurants that the downtown area has to offer.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life from what I can see is one of the best around. Granted I was probably living in one of the older dorms, the service was still very good and the way that it was run was done very well. Akron actually built a brand new dorm called South Hall and that is the top of the line when it comes to dorms. everything that you could ask for is there. All of that said, I still think that the overall dorm experience is very good.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major you go into, the work load will generally be pretty high. I am currently studying Civil Engineering and the workload gets pretty bad but they are only doing it so you know what you are doing and they know that you will be able to do it in the real world. Do not let the hard class load discourage you. If you put your mind to it, you can get through school with an awesome degree.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the major tips that I can give is to not overwork yourself. Another thing is to make sure you give time for yourself to decompress. If you try and go for too long without taking a break, you will just wear yourself out. Akron provides many different activities to hel you decompress. Like our awesome game room and then our rec center. Every week the student union plays a fairly newly released movie and many more things. Another good tip is to make your teacher know who you are. This will make them see that you are trying, which will most likely help you in the end if you are on the fence between an A and a B. Most times professors will give you the A if they see that you have been trying.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is a great academic and social environment. Everybody there is willing to help you with whatever you may need regarding school or getting a job after school. I would recommend The University of Akron to anyone that wants to get a good education and be able to use it when you graduate.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is very important at Akron. There are emergency stations located all over campus and the campus police are always patrolling and are usually within two minutes away from any emergency. They also escort people to their cars and help with any car damage or remove keys from a locked vehicle.

    What to do for fun

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately I commute to campus so I don't personally know about how dorm life is, but many people say good things about it and how nice it is to be so close to everything.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is strict, but at the same time many professors are flexible and understanding and often give the student more than one opportunity to get his/her grade up to the desired level.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the main tips for students wanting to attend this university is to first walk around and get to know the campus and where certain buildings are located. Secondly meet with an adviser and figure out the best classes that they recommend to you.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of things you can do for fun like go to a ice breaker at Primo Night club, watch a movie in the student union, go to a sporting event. the University of Akron is located in the center of downtown Akron so there is loads of stuff to do I personally like bowling and sporting events. As I mentioned before if you join any student organization they will usually have fun events to do as well which will allow you to get out and meet people.

    Food and Dining

Like I said earlier is you eat Robs and Ohio Burger in moderation you should not gain the freshmen fifteen. The best place to eat in my opinion would have to be Trackside Grille they give you quality food and reasonable prices. If you want to be around a lot of friends and eat healthier you can go into the student union and go to zees natural for some delicious healthy substitutes.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is nice especially if you have a fun R.A. ( Resident Assistant ) the events and the people you will meet are so much fun and really interesting. It gives you the full college experience by letting you meet all walks of life and getting to know your building. The only downside I would have to say about any Residence hall is that it is expense average price is around 7,000 a year which is cheaper then others plus it comes with a few free amenities.

    Academic Rigor

It is a little early in the year to tell you what the work load is like right now but so far its has been a decent amount to hard but defiantly not light. My work load most consist of reading a chapter or two in a text book and writing papers/journal entries. the Syllabus pretty much tells you any and everything that you need to know so do not lose it.

    Tips for prospective students

If your thinking about coming to Akron there's a few thing you might want to know like Robs café is good if you mediate. The professors will always be there to help you don't worry they are nice for the most part. Be apart of every student organization you can be a part of trust me no matter what it will be fun.

    In three sentences

If I rated the University of Akron on a scale of 1 to 10 I would have to say its a solid 8.5 for I love being here honestly. There are many reasons why I love it but a few are that it is affordable, close to home, the teachers and advisors go out of there way to help you with anything, there's a lot of resources here at your disposal, and the fact that it is very diverse. if you are ruling Akron out because its to small or you don't think you would fit in just come visit and I am sure Akron will prove you wrong.

I'm a commuter, so I have no idea.

    Academic Rigor

I have a mix of extremely easy classes with extremely difficult classes. The material of the courses is actually what creates the difficulty, and not the instructors. The instructors themselves are all pretty decent at their jobs.

    Tips for prospective students

Only come here if you have an absolute love for the city of Akron. Don't even think about commuting if you live any farther than thirty-five minutes away. The parking here is terrible. You have to wander around, aimlessly, to find a spot. There's nothing for commuter students to really do. It's not a great experience overall. This school is good for engineering and nursing, and nothing else. Only go to the south side of campus if you have to, and when there, watch your back.

    In three sentences

I am unhappy here. I wish to find a different school. I'm attending this school because it was my emergency resort.

    Campus Safety

The University has its own police who work closely with the Akron police. There is a camps escort service that will walk students around at night so they do not have to walk alone. Additionally, scattered throughout campus, and even off of campus, is a series of emergency posts that contain buttons and lights so if you are in an emergency you can run, following the lights, and push the buttons. Cops can then track where you are going and be there within 30 seconds.

    Greek Life

Greek life is incredibly strong and active. There are numerous fraternities and sororities, so if that is what you are interested in, there is a spot for you! They are constantly hosting fundraisers on campus and seen making a difference throughout the community.

    Clubs and Activities

Again, there are over 300 student organizations and numerous activities throughout the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Intramural and club sports are especially popular among students.

Great for these types of students

It has something to offer everyone. No one ever says I did not fit in here. You will find a place here. You will find a group of people that you will call friends for the rest of your life.

    Bang for the buck

It is considered to be one of the best universities in Northeast Ohio for its return investment. How much it costs in comparison to what people make once graduating is astounding. Akron is extremely affordable and you leave with an experience and the knowledge you need to survive in the real world.

    What to do for fun

Again, The University of Akron is right in downtown Akron so there is a lot to do in the city. We are also very close to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which has hiking, bikini, canoeing, and many other activities! Cleveland is only a 40 minute drive North and Canton is 20 minutes South. If you are looking to stay on campus, there are movies every Thursday-Saturday in the movie theatre. The game room is open 7 days a week and there is always a sporting event. Men's soccer is particularly popular after they won the NCAA championship in 2010.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options. There are over ten dining options on campus and many restaurants off campus work closely with the University to make deals with students and even be part of the meal plan.

    Dorm Life

There are 9 residence halls to choose from and they all offer something unique. There is the very traditional residence halls, to the more individualized where you get your own bathroom, suite style, apartment style (which includes a functioning kitchen), or living in the old Quaker Oats silos that were converted into a hotel and is no a residence hall. The Residence Hall Programming Board hosts at least one event a week, whether it is a comedian or a singer, among other things, for residents. Resident Assistants also allays have something going on in their specific residence halls. If there is absolutely nothing to do, which is never, the University is in downtown Akron which has a vibrant night life.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of the general courses are fair because most professors know that the classes are needed to graduate. However, once you get into major specific coursework, the difficulty steps up. You are dealing with experts who know their fields.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. The University of Akron is dominated by commuters. Many people who say they did not get the college experience did not get involved. There are over 300 student organizations, a strong Greek life, and many projects going on within individual departments. There is something for everyone. The University of Akron also offers traditional students the great experience of interacting with non-traditional students (part time, military, older generations). These are excellent people to learn from and they are an asset so do not be afraid to talk to them.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is vibrant, growing, urban environment that has so much to offer its students. With over 300 student organizations and some of the best faculty everyone is sure to find a place here. Akron is an affordable school, yet it provides you with an outstanding education that has equipped you for your future.

The choices are pretty good but beware of Rob's Cafe.

    Dorm Life

Many of the dorms are new and are a great place to live. However most of them come with a hefty price tag.

    Academic Rigor

You are always challenged and encouraged to do your best work. However teachers understand that you still need time to have a life and do work for other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! I can't tell you enough how much getting involved makes a difference in your experience as well as your education.

    In three sentences

This university is by far the perfect place for me. Everywhere you go the faculty and students are kind and always willing to talk. In the classroom the faculty go above and beyond to help each student succeed.

There are a lot of options but, not a lot are heathy. The freshman fifteen is a real possibility.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are pretty basic. The honors dorms are really nice and the school is building new improved dorms that will definitely put Akron's dorms above other colleges.

    Academic Rigor

It is decent. The teachers are pretty excepting although classes seem to go fast and often times become full. The academics are fairly easy and there are large lectures.

    Tips for prospective students

Become involved as much as you can. I find it better if you stay on campus and become apart of the student life.

    In three sentences

It is a moderately large campus full of activities. The landscape and atmosphere is pretty average, the students are somewhat accepting and the faculty have slightly cold attitudes. Overall Akron is a decent school.

There's a bowling alley in the student union, as well as a movie theater. The student rec center is amazing and beautiful and there is always something to do there.

    Food and Dining

There isn't anything really special, but it's not bad either.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in the dorms, but across the board people hate them. They are sweltering hot in the summer, and completely freezing in the winter. They also smell terrible, and are falling apart.

    Academic Rigor

It seems like half of the teachers expect a lot from you, which is great. And the other half expect nothing, and it's frustrating when you want to really learn.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get involved so you don't get lost in the shuffle. Communicate with your professors and get to know them! Put the effort in, and work hard. It's worth it!

The curriculum is always changing and the advisers may not always know what they're talking about (i.e. making you sign up for classes that you don't need to take).

One thing this college doesn't stress enough is safety. Police cars are always patrolling around, you have emergency stations everywhere, and they also provide escort services.

    Greek Life

Has plenty of social and professional fraternities/sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

The school provides a website that helps you find a club you want to be a part of.

Great for these types of students

Science majors, students who can't afford to go to a big university, but still want that urban-ish university feel.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely an affordable school with some accredited academic programs.

    Dorm Life

I don't dorm, but I heard the dorm life is ok. The dorms are spacious and roomy from what I saw and you don't have to be an upperclassman to live off of campus.

    Campus Safety

I've never felt like I was in danger while on campus.

    Greek Life

I had a room mate who joined a frat and somehow ended up saving a few thousand dollars on housing. Other than that I know nothing about Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

I've joined the Aero Design team. We design and build really cool planes, and we win. I also went on a trip to Washington D.C with The Students for Life. That was a very cool experience.

Great for these types of students

If you're the type to get involved in stuff, you'll have a good time. The honors college is really good for nerds.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are plenty, but you need to come here and find them yourself!

    Bang for the buck

So far I feel pretty good with my investment. The meal plans are big rip-offs though.

    What to do for fun

I like going on adventures and biking. The towpath trail and the state park are nearby, so when the weather is lovely I spend a lot of time there. For other people, there are comedians and musicians that have performances at EJ Thomas Hall all the time. Downtown is a 10 minute walk from campus, and there are plenty of cool things to do there. In the summertime there is almost always something happening at Lock 3. For people who like clubs, I hear people talk about Lux all the time. Oh, and I can't forget the rec center. It's pretty stellar.

    Food and Dining

Rob's is the main dining hall on campus. It is all you can eat. They have fresh sandwiches (made to order), a stir fry station (made to order), a salad bar, and hamburgers (made to order). Every day they have, desserts, coffee, fountain drinks, pizza, and fruit. They also have a section that serves cafeteria food. For the most part, the food is good here. There are lots of other places where you can use your meal plan swipes. If you get bored with Rob's there are other places. If you're a vegetarian/ vegan, you'll probably go to these more than Rob's.

    Dorm Life

People seem pretty satisfied with dorm life overall. It's expensive, though. I live in Quaker Square. It is a dorm that used to be oat silos, then it was a hotel. I have a great view of downtown Akron from the 8th floor. There are bathrooms in every room, and some rooms come with small refrigerators. There are shuttle buses that go to and from campus for the weak who cannot brave the cold. The people who live here are friendly. As much as I like my dorm, I would recommend choosing a dorm in the middle of campus. The housing people work really hard to make events and fun stuff for the residents to do, but I don't ever really go to the events.

    Academic Rigor

Taking honors engineering courses at Akron is rigorous. I have to work pretty hard to get As, but it's not impossible. I don't feel like I need to sacrifice a social life or sleep to get good grades. I can't really speak for other majors, though.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking into engineering and are considering some big fancy expensive college, remember that math and science will be pretty similar everywhere. That being said, Akron is a good balance of price and reputation. They also have a good co-op program. Get involved on campus. There are some really great SAE teams (Aero design is the best). There are also lots of special interest groups, sport teams, and adventure groups. If you just go to class and study, you won't be getting everything you pay for.

    In three sentences

I am a freshman mechanical engineer in the honors college, and I am happy with Akron. For the most part, my professors have been clear and helpful. Dealing with administration has not been a headache.

    Campus Safety

Not only does Akron have University police patrolling campus 24/7 but they also have Akron City Police patrolling as well. There are blue emergency lights located all across campus and I've never had an issue with safety here. On your zip card, they also have a list of emergency numbers so you will always have somebody to call if ever faced with an emergency.

    Greek Life

Although I am not involved in Greek Life this semester, I have plenty of friends that are and I have decided to rush next semester. Greek Life at Akron is a huge deal and all the sorority girls and fraternity guys are extremely nice and helpful! Great way to get involved!

Great for these types of students

Akron is big on their engineering program! So if you are a student looking to go into the field of engineering, Akron is the school for you!

    Bang for the buck

Akron is an affordable school and they want to see you succeed and will help you and your family as much as needed. Financial Aid is really helpful here and they make the process quick and easy. Akron has a lot to offer, and for the price, I can't find a complaint in the world.

    What to do for fun

Since UA is located in downtown Akron there is a lot around campus to do! There is a ton of great restaurants located within 5 minutes of campus! The civic center is right down the street as well as the Akron Rubber Ducks stadium! Who doesn't like baseball!? There is also a variety of different clubs and night life for those who are interested!

    Food and Dining

There is many food choices at UA but our main dining hall is called Rob's. Rob's is buffet style eating and has just about everything you could imagine to choose from. The pizza is the best!! Inside the student union, UA also has the market which has just about every to go dining option you could imagine! Subway, Auntie Annes, and Ohio Burger. Downstairs in the union there is Zee's Natural, an all natural / organic store! MY FAVORITE! We also have a DQ on campus, Zee's, and Starbucks! You'll never run out of dining options at Akron.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are relatively new and extremely nice! They make college living seem luxury. I lived in South Hall my freshman year and my room had it's own bathroom! There are large study rooms on each wing and everybody, especially your RA's are extremely nice and helpful! Dorming is such a fun college experience!

    Academic Rigor

The professors here strive for your excellence and they want to see you succeed. However, they will not hold your hand. The courses at this university are challenging and demanding but there is help all around you, you just have to reach out for it.

    Tips for prospective students

The number one tip I have to prospective students is to never pass up an opportunity that is thrown your way. College is full of different challenges that you are expected to face and although it may seem overwhelming at times, there always seems to come a good opportunity at the right time, for those who deserve it. I suggest getting involved in clubs on campus, intermural sports, and always remember to hit the books!

    In three sentences

The University of Akron is diverse. This campus exposes you to many profound opportunities. The professors here challenge you not only in the classroom, but in the real world as well.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety I would hope would be important to everyone on campus. Uakron offers an escort service and also has blue emergency boxes but the best advice is to walk in groups especially around the neighborhoods off of exchange street.

    Clubs and Activities

Student Government, Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio, and many other cool clubs

Great for these types of students

Uakron is great for many types of students whether you are the artsy type or more of a nerd the University of Akron offers many degree programs to cater to all students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I remember going to the student union andgoing bowling as a child. I went to Uakron's preschool as a small child. Also Memorial Hall is no longer where it once stood but the cat walk and stair well leading from the natitorium to Memorial Hall is still standing.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun in akron. if you are old enough to drink there are plenty of bars of all types if that tickles your fancy or if you like exploring your surroundings there are many metro parks in Akron and Summit County.

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is tasty but super expensive even while on a meal plan. Being a commuter students I try to stir clear of buying food on campus because the cost can really rack up fast. I tend to make meals at home and eat leftovers. Or if you want to eat out there are a number of restaurants one of my favorites being Chin's Place.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorm my first year of college and I found it to be ok. I didn't really enjoy it because I felt like I didn't have as much freedom as I have had since becoming a commuter student. I would recommend that every first year college student live in the dorms for the first year to gauge whether or not it is a living situation they would like to continue throughout their college experience.

    Academic Rigor

Study! Study! Study! No matter how prepared (or unprepared) you are for that upcoming test or final exam you should also be sure that you will get the grades you want.If you are in any field related to engineering you need to study your butt off and that goes for all your classes even the general education ones. Academics are extremely important and they will help you to learn more about the field you are preparing to go into once you graduate college.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend if possible to not buy food on campus because it is extremely pricey unless you live on campus and have a meal plan. Listen to and befriend your professors because they want to see you succeed. Try to pick a major that you will enjoy but will also not fail you after you graduate and have to find a big person job.

    In three sentences

University of Akron is the only university or college in the state of Ohio that offers the degree I am currently pursing. Many of the professors are extremely helpful and want to see students succeed in their fields of study. Uakron offers a wide array of programs to fit many students' needs and academic pursuits.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of groups and organizations to join on campus. ZTV is especially a good program for anyone interested in media and communications. There is also the radio station WZIP for anyone interested in radio production or being on-air.

    What to do for fun

There is a student recreational building that housing a swimming pool, indoor track, basketball courts, as well as all kinds of workout equipment. There is also a bowling alley that houses eight lanes along with a room that has ten pool tables to play on. Outside of the student rec, there is an outdoor track. Behind the Student Union, there is an outdoor area called Coleman Commnon. It has four cement tables that have chess boards painted onto the tabletops, along with a meditation maze to enjoy. Because the University of Akron is downtown, there are numerous restaurants and clubs to visit in the area, including: Buffalo Wild Wings, Zar Night Club, Subway, Barley House, and many others.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get acquainted with your academic advisors. Though they just seem like people to help you schedule classes, they are much more than that. Most are eager to help you fully adjust to the college lifestyle. Learn how to buy food wisely. Places on campus can be very expensive to buy food from every day. Keep track of your finances because it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. Make yourself known to your professors. When they put a face to name they will be more likely to work with you and help you when you get confused about a concept they were teaching in class.

    In three sentences

I could not have picked a better school to start my college career with. The professors were all willing to help because they wanted you to learn and the campus was beautiful as well; that made the long days full of class not seem so bad. I am proud to say that I was an Akron Zip!

    Campus Safety

I would have given it ten stars if I could because it is off the charts. If you are on campus the police are everywhere. That may be because there is a police station right down the street. Also, the dorms are like Fort Knox, hard to get into but easy to get out.

    Greek Life

I have only experienced Greek life through the window, and at parties. But my professional opinion it is great, they are not out of control. But they are clearly still having lots of fun and breaking things. This depends on which frat/sorority that you join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are more clubs and activities than I can count. So if you are feeling left out or have nothing else to do, just go to the union. There is always something going on at the university of Akron.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great if you are foreign. I swear all of my classes are at least 50% packed with people from Asia and the Middle East. This is not a problem, because they are all very nice. But it becomes a pain when your professor only speaks in broken English.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual traditions are all of the fests. Because at any fest you will get to see sides of your friends that you never knew. In other words they are all alcoholics. I recommend that you go to the locks or on the toe path downtown, it is very nice.

    Bang for the buck

This is a public university, and it has the tuition of a public university. Tuition is 356 per credit hour, which is not bad. What they will get you on is the $5000 per semester meal plan and room and board package. So I would say go here, but find an apartment.

    What to do for fun

The University of Akron is definitely a party campus, and boasts numerous fests. If you go to these parties expect to see the police, because they are ever present in the party scene. There are also bars, and frat parties if you are willing to step out and look down the street at them.

    Food and Dining

This consists of the union market and robs or as I like to call it Roberto's which I like to think gives it a classy aspect. The food also depends on where you go, the union market has a lovely sushi bar, and rob's has a great stir fry. But I recommend going to one of the numerous subways around campus.

    Dorm Life

I have not had the pleasure of living in a dorm, but I have heard good things. There are numerous programs in place to get you involved and to keep you motivated. But still watch out, some roommates are very untrustworthy.

    Academic Rigor

This definitely depends on the program that you are in. For me the MET program is about mid difficulty, for the Political science program I would give it a one star. But that is true with any university that you attend.

    Tips for prospective students

Going to this university is a great experience, they have numerous opportunities for fun. However, especially if you have a difficult degree, do not get caught up in the parties. Go to one or two, or you will begin to fail. This is a big party school.

    In three sentences

The university of Akron has a beautiful campus with many aesthetically pleasing features. Numerous classes that you will take have nothing to do with your actual degree. But at least you get to walk around that nice campus whilst blowing money.

    Campus Safety

Campus is very secure, there are a lot of emergency phones on campus, and constant patrol. I never feel unsafe on campus, and if you ever do feel unsafe the campus police are welcoming and will escort you to where you need to go.

    Clubs and Activities

There are thousands of clubs and activities. Located in our Student Union is the Source a locationt that will help you get involved in some of those clubs and activities,

Great for these types of students

Diverse students, and people who do not mind the city life [Akron has a rather big population'

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is reasonably priced compared to near-by schools but books are highly priced on campus. I would recommend buying them online, or at a bookstore not on campus.

    What to do for fun

There are constantly events going on campus. In the middle of campus is where our Student Union is loacted. The place is full of activities and life, it includes gaming areas, billards, bowling, a movie theater [free for students!], restuarants, and a huge ballroom for other activities. There are thousands of student organizations to get involved with too!

    Food and Dining

There is a wide variety of food choices on campus to eat. There are even places off-campus in near by areas that take student dining dollars, which broadens the food choices

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fairly small in some buildings, but they give an excellent opportunity to make friends!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are as hard as you make them. Going to class, and working hard is all you need to do to stay successful. The professors on campus are there to help you get through your classes, not fail them.

    Tips for prospective students

Make the most of your college experience! Engage in school activities there are thousands! If you are an incoming freshman, those other students are just as nervous as you are, break the ice and make new friends. Many of your new friends will last a lifetime.

    In three sentences

The University of Akron, is a medium-sized campus full of life, and diversity. The price of tuition is fairly priced, and the people on campus are warm and welcoming. The diversity allows anyone to make friends, I would recommend this campus to anyone pursing college.

    Campus Safety

This campus is one of the safest i have been on. On nearly every corner there are buttons available for emergency situations where all you have to do is push them and someone will come to your aid. Nice and safe.

    Food and Dining

the food was always very good, there was plenty of choices and it was always very delicious.

    Dorm Life

I didn't actually stay on campus, i commuted everyday.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes that i took were very hard and i had to work almost every day for them, others were easy and i had no problem passing the course with a high grade. It could just be my personal ability to learn certain subjects better than others.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you study and do all the work that is required of you. I know for some of the classes i have taken i didn't study near as hard as i should have and my grades slipped because of that (especially in the social sciences like psychology and sociology where there are a quiz or test every week). If your professor gives an article to read, actually read it, don't skim, possibly even take notes. Don't get too bogged down with school work though, have fun and enjoy yourself, i mean it is college and everyone needs a break every now and then.

I am a post secondary (dual enrolled) student through Akron U and my current high school, and i absolutely love the professors here. They are so down to earth and willing to get in contact with you when ever you need help, all you have to do is ask and you will receive. Akron U is a friendly, learning based community and every thing on campus is designed towards a better learning experience, high school and college students alike.
