Categories Comments Great for these types of students 1) Shy students who have a hard time meeting new people. Akron offers plenty of opportunities to meet other students in fun environments that limit awkwardness. The class tend to be smaller which offers more time to get to know your professors and fellow students. 2) Academic orientated students. Akron offers several different types of educational promoting groups and it's very easy to get in touch with professors. There are tutoring labs held in the main library on campus everyday, classroom assistants in several classes, learning communities (you live and have classes with these people), and a large Honors program with it's own residence hall.
Tips for prospective students Go in with a positive attitude because going in with belief of failure will only result in failure. Take a tour of campus and see if you can see yourself as a student. Ask questions about everything to your tour guide, if you have a question chances are someone else has the same one. While looking at the campus just have fun and really look at everything. Take the time to walk around by yourself and see if you feel comfortable there because if you don't the college isn't right for you.
Bang for the buck Akron is cheaper than most places in Ohio to attend. We have a ton of free activities to attend, we're always getting free shirts, pens, bags, and other things, parking is included in tuition, all sports games on campus are free to attend, free movies in the student union theater, our game room which features bowling and billiards is free, our rec center with its amazing pool, rock wall and several basketball courts is free, and there's free wifi all over campus. There's also free tutoring in the library, you can rent a laptop for a few hours a day or for a week for free from the library, and printer money is already placed on your id card.
Am enjoying being here Akron has tons of events to attend like Boo at the Roo, comedian shows, hypnotist shows, a movie theatre in the Student Union which occasionally shows movies weeks before they come out in other theatres, musician shows and plenty of other activities...

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Awesome school! I live at home and commute to and from daily. Parking can be a hassle but if you get there early it's a breeze to find a parking spot. I am definitely learning a lot in all of my classes and almost all of the professors are willing to help you out if you are struggling with anything. Highly recommend the University of Akron!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Athletes, honor students, nursing students, engineering student, art students, social work, business, and sports related majors. These are the most commonly herd majors around campus. There are a million and 1/2 groups to join. Starbucks on campus for coffee lovers, and look up our rec center and prepare to be amazed. www.uakron.edu for majors, and for sports go to gozips.com !! Lets go blue and gold!
Tips for prospective students Fill out your FASFA early to get your maximum financial aid package. If you're living in the dorms, you either love it or hate it. I would recommend it to freshman because then you are located in the center of campus and everything is easier to get to. Plus you are closer to the dining hall.
Bang for the buck Quality education and a beautiful campus is worth it. The cost is relatively cheap compared to other universities this size.
Am enjoying being here I wouldn't be this happy anywhere else!
Am learning a lot The classes are generally small and the professors are fantastic. After you finish your electives, all the major-specific class are enticing and exciting. I'm glad I chose Akron over a smaller school. There are tons of opprotuniteis here for internships even in the cities near by like Canton, Stow, even Cleveland.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I would defanitely recommend this school to athletes. They will get great use out of the recreation center, the track, the fields, and the college sports and intramural club sports programs. I am a theater major and the theater program isn't great but there is a theater club and defanitely a place for everyone here. I love how diverse the student population is. I also enjoy how many international students there are and the many study abroad options that are available here. I've made so many international friends! I really hope to study abroad through UA as well.
Tips for prospective students I would defanitely recommend joining as many clubs as possible and to attend the welcome week events. The welcome week events are a great way to meet people. The people that I met when I first came to UA are still my friends. There is also a club fair in the student union that exhibits the many different clubs, volunteer groups, and Greek life that Akron students can join. I am in three different clubs and I've also met alot of friends by joining them. I would also tell a first year student to relax about college and not feel nervous. This campus is the perfect size and they will feel right at home. There are so many people that are there to help and staff and students are incredibly nice. They should defanitely arrive on campus with an open mind.
Bang for the buck For how much I pay to attend classes and live here, it is far better than some of my friends' colleges. There are so many free events to go to. Something is always going on. As a student you get access to the AWESOME recreation center, which I frequent every week. The pool is the perfect temperature and incredibly fun to get some people together and go to. There is alot of exercise equipment as well. It's such a huge place and very clean.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and absolutely adore it. I would recommend living in the dorms to anyone considering this school. Almost every Tuesday night the Residence Hall Programming Board works hard to put on awesome and entertaining performances like comedians, dances and musicians... for free! I have attended all of them! The dorms are clean, close to classes and convenient. The people are also very friendly. I've made alot of friends.
Am learning a lot Some of the classes here seem like simple repeats of high school courses crammed into a shorter amount of time. I feel that some of the classes, including the prerequisites, include curriculums with subjects I've already learned about. It would be nice if the classes were more comprehensive,

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University is a great school for any students! The only downside to the university is its size, thus it is crucial to find a way to get involved in one way or another. I believe the University of Akron was the best choice for me because of its quality education, low tution cost, and the convenience of having it close to home.
Tips for prospective students The University of Akron is a very large school with many diverse students including Ohio residents, out of state students, and many international students. I enjoy the large campus and emense amount of students, however it can be hard to make friends or feel at home at the University of Akron if you do not get involved in student organizations, on-campus activities, or having a job on campus. As a commuter student it can be easy to shuffle through the crowd unnoticed. By getting involved you will meet a tremendous amount of people and feel more at home at the University. The University makes it easy for students to find information about clubs or activities with it's convenient and helpful resources on campus.
Bang for the buck As an in state student, tuition is extremely inexpensive for me. They also offer some scholorships including academic, majors, sports, and many others. I feel the education I am receiving from The University of Akron is equivalent to any high ranking university, and I am very fortunate to have this outstanding school close to home.
Am enjoying being here I love the University of Akron and have enjoyed my past two semesters here. The campus is beautiful with up to date technology and facilities. The faculty is friendly and there are many resources to help students succeed and have the best possible college experience.
Am learning a lot I have learned a lot since my first semester. First of all, I have learned it is important to stay on top of my classes, and make sure I am staying on track with my major. The University makes this easy for students by providing them with an online resouces called the DARS report where students are able to track how much they have completed their degree. I have also learned it is best to make use of the many resources the University has to offer for students including a math and writing lab which assists in homework in a math or english. I have also learned this past semester it is best to get involved in student activities or organizations in order to meet people and make friends.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want to have fun, learn, not pay a fortune but get the education like you are, and meet a bunch of people that are awesome.
Tips for prospective students Buy into the system. College is the best part of your lives because the people you meet will be the people you are with the rest of your lives. Join everything you can meet everyone you can, because you never know they might be your significant other or best friend for life.
Bang for the buck I transferred from John Carroll University a private Jesuit school whose tuition was 40 grand a year and I am receiving a better education at Akron with a more reasonable price. Not to mention there is better food, with the zip card you can eat at burger king bw3's and every college students favorite place... taco bell. Come join the 27,000 plus students enjoying every moment at the University of Akron.
Am enjoying being here I am currently a student at the school of music pursuing a degree in music education, the job placement for music education at the U of A is 100%. I absolutely fell in love not only with the friends I have made at Akron but the professors whom are very educated and have great senses of humor.
Am learning a lot The University of Akron is a magnificent school with tons of opportunities for every type of student. With a fantastic school of engineering, you can get a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. The University of Akron has a great nursing program with a great job placement! I am taking 23 credit hours and am learning more this semester than I did in a year at a private University.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student!! University of Akron accommodates all personalities whether you like to socialize or if you'd rather stay in. As said before, there are a ton of organizations! You meet so many different people, especially living on-campus, you're bound to find where you fit in!
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus!! Ask questions when you visit, familiarize yourself with the campus. College is the one time in your life where you get a fresh start. No one knows who you were in high school so this is your chance to tweak it a little bit. I'm not saying to be someone you aren't, just simply someone you want to be. Break out of your shell and try (most) things once! Remember these are the best 4 years of your life.
Bang for the buck One word: Definitely. At first, the figures you're looking at seem pretty high. If you can attend a regional campus for the first year or two, it knocks the price down a bit. However, unlike some campuses, you have the option of living off-campus sooner. Also, a first year student is able to keep a car on-campus which makes commuting home much easier! I'm not overpaying to attend the University of Akron, if anything I'm underpaying.
Am enjoying being here The University of Akron isn't just about going to class and getting a degree, it's about having the best four years of your life while obtaining a degree! There are so many organizations to join from a sorority/fraternity to habitat for humanity! There's plenty of intramural sports for those of us who can't commit to the main team! Every one wants to have a blast while attending school, therefore you meet people who eventually become your best friend!
Am learning a lot When you look at the University of Akron staff/faculty, you find plenty of people who were in your shoes many years ago. You also find understanding and caring individuals who put 100% in their classrooms to benefit YOU. The work in each class is relevant and I've never asked myself, why do I need this? At the University of Akron, I know what I'm learning is important and fortunately, I'm learning a lot!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Apply EARLY!! I got my admissions decision in about 6 weeks and was surprised how quick this school got back to me!
Bang for the buck It's going to be pretty expensive for me since I'm out of state, but it shouldn't be TOO bad hopefully if I receive a scholarship!
Will enjoy being here I'm SO ready to get out of Vegas!
Will learn a lot Not that I didn't learn a fair bit in high school, but I think coming across the country might help me see things a bit differently.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a big thing at akron so i would say that they do a pretty good job with that. The only advise I do have is dont walk around by yourself past hours
Greek Life I really dont know much about the greek life on campus
Clubs and Activities The Clubs in Akron are alot of fun and the are always events to go to. We have one of the best soccer team in the nation and they are alot of fun to watch.
What to do for fun There is always something going on around campus to do, whether its bowling, rec, or a comedy show
Food and Dining There are many different food places around campus to eat
Dorm Life Dorm life was a learning experience my advise is to do random rommates to meet new people
Academic Rigor Everything in college is rigor and every professor is a little bit different
Tips for prospective students The most important tip is to use your time wisely and to start on your assignment as soon as they are assigned to you.
In three sentences The university of Akron is a great place to be with its friendly campus. There are alot of places to get help with any of your question. Everything you want and need is very close by.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are plenty of police officers, and it usually takes them a very short time to catch anyone doing anything illegal on the campus grounds.
Clubs and Activities There is a huge list of groups and clubs that are affiliated with Akron University.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to learn and still have a good time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are several small pathways that have been beaten down by students trying to find more efficient ways to/from classes in between the various buildings.
Bang for the buck Tuition isn't as expensive as it could be, and you get a lot of good opportunities.
What to do for fun The activities on campus are nearly endless. There's almost always something happening to either participate in or watch.
Food and Dining The food is usually good, and the price isn't bad.
Dorm Life I have heard very few negative things about living in the dorms on campus, but I do not live on-campus.
Academic Rigor The classes are not easy, but they teach you a lot in the little time they have.
Tips for prospective students Try to arrive at least 15 minutes early, if not half an hour, to make sure you find a good parking space.
In three sentences Akron University has a beautiful campus. The faculty are both helpful and friendly. It doesn't take long to learn your way around campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is primarily downtown Akron (Main Campus) and there can be some crime (robberies). My biggest issue is with the apartments near campus. They are pretty rundown, costly, and the students are obvious targets for thieves. Most of the time I feel safe on campus, but I may just start carrying mace.
Bang for the buck Parking should be better for what you pay. Tuition could also be more affordable.
What to do for fun The Recreation Center offers swimming, rock climbing, basketball, treadmills, weightlifting, etc. The Student Union has places to eat, a theater, a place to go bowling or play pool, and so on.
Food and Dining Subway and Rob's Cafe (buffet style, salad bar, stir fry area) are some of the most popular eateries. Penn Station, Taco Bell, and McDonald's are options as well.
Dorm Life Dorm rooms are small and overpriced, but the locations are generally ideal.
Academic Rigor You shouldn't have a problem. Math courses and science courses may be the only thing that will mess up a person's GPA. Know your professors and do your research.
In three sentences It's a good school, not too large. It is great for a student who is focused primarily on their education. Parking is a nightmare and tuition is expensive (with fees continuing to rise and pop-up out of nowhere). The college bookstores charge quite a bit for the books, but you can sell them back for a little money.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want a large univeristy experience, who don't mind living in the city, who aren't exactly sure what they want to do because as a larger school the Univerity of Akron has many options for majors.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus, talk to people who go there, really think about what you want from your college experience and compare and contrast this to the other schools you are visiting and thinking about going to. Consider what is important to you as a student and as a person and see if the University meets these needs.
Bang for the buck As a student at The Univerity of Akron, I sometimes have mixed feelings on what I am paying for. For example, in the majority of classes the professors are very knowledgeable and experts at their specified field. However, every once and awhile you'll have a teacher who may be very competent in their field, but not so much at teaching. It is this kind of experience that makes me question the amount of money I am paying for classes.
Am enjoying being here College is difficult, and especially for freshman it is a huge adjustment. However, once you get past that The University of Akron is a very enjoyable campus to be on. I highly recommend living on campus for at least the first year to get to know people and get that traditional college experience. The university and the RHPB (residence hall program board) work very hard at putting together events, concerts, and sporting events for students to enjoy.
Am learning a lot As an education major, The University of Akron has greatly contributed to my knowledge of my major. However, from time to time there is a class or two that seems unnecessary. For example, I had to take a composition class as a general requirement for almost all majors and as an integrated languages arts major for me the class was a waste of time. As a whole though I have experienced and learned a lot in my courses and I believe that this gained knowledge will greatly help me in pursuit of my degree.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Soccer fans (we are home to the 2010 national champions, 2009 runners up; two years ranked number 1 team), students who enjoy small class sizes but still want to experience a large university
Tips for prospective students If you qualify, apply to honors college. Seriously, it sucks big time trying to get into classes as a freshman or sophomore if not in honors. They get to schedule ahead of time and get preference in placement. Live on campus! We have really nice dorms WITH AIR CONDITIONING! Not many schools have dorms with air conditioning so take advantage of that luxury that we have. Go to games! Join the AK Rowdies, one of the largest student organizations in the country. They hang out at sporting events and have a fun time cheering on the zips.
Bang for the buck You can tell that the university is using tuition for the benefit of the students. Quite a few new buildings have been built since 2005 and they are still in the process of building new dorms and sports facilities. The teachers here actually want to help you succeed, unlike other colleges where they could care less if you attend class or not. With tuition a lot of things are included such as parking passes, membership to the rec center, and all home games for any sport are free to students (you even get points which earn you free stuff just for going to games!).
Am enjoying being here The campus is absolutely gorgeous in the summer, fall, and spring. There are a few cool looking buildings. Most of the classrooms are very modern, which I enjoy. They play new movies in the student union twice a week and have free bowling and pool as well as occasional special activities such as speakers, bands, poetry readings, and dances. The student wellness and rec center is VERY nice and large with a pretty cool indoor leisure pool.
Am learning a lot Most of the professors genuinely want to help you learn and will go out of their way to help you if asked. Classes are generally very small for a university. I have only had one class over 100 so far. Most of my classes have been in the 20-40 range.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If your an art major this is a great school. The art building is like it's own community. It is small so everyone knows everyone. And there are always cool shows and events going on. If your a student from a small town its also nice, because you get the experience of a big city during the day but at night it is like being home again with just some close friends. There are more commuters then residences so it tends to quiet down at night. But it's nice that it's not always to crazy busy. You are in Akron and it is a big city, but being at college is like being in a small town.
Tips for prospective students If your looking for a fun interactive community this is the college for you. There is something for everyone from sports, entertainment, to academics. No student is left out. Just make sure you study and work hard on all subjects. Don't slack and always pay attention. Only skip class if your seriously ill or if the teacher does not take attendance. Get to know your teachers and see what their limits are. Some teachers are really easy going and can become good friends. Professors are always willing to help especially during and after college. So don't hesitate to ask questions. But enjoy college make friends and get out there.
Bang for the buck You get your money for all the classes you take. The professors work hard on their lesson plans and some professors are on a very personal level with their students. All my art teachers had their students call them by their first name or a nickname. It was awesome.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere on campus is nice. Not to crazy about living situations. Bulger hall has 16 floors and fire drills suck but it is one of the cheapest. If you don't mind sharing showers with tons of people then it's for you. It's safe, good security, and there is always plenty to do.
Am learning a lot You learn a lot for your major in the first couple of years. I am an art major and was able to have many art classes in my first year along with completing some general education classes. You learn a lot in the short time you have in the classes and teachers are willing to help you learn and understand the material.

Tips for prospective students If you apply, you will enjoy campus no matter what. I fell in love as soon as I stepped foot on the pavement in the parking lot! On campus jobs are easy to find and work-study jobs are great and rewarding.
Bang for the buck I am going for engineering and the school really does teach you a lot. The sports and activities keep you busy, plus the campus is beautiful.
Am enjoying being here I love the events! Boo at the Roo and all the sports events. The soccer team is amazing! Roo fest was really fun and Sibs weekend was a blast!
Am learning a lot The teachers are completely amazing. They like it when you're involved in the classroom. Some classes have heavy homework, but it's all worth it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students open minded students and wacky, optimistic people will really enjoy being here because its so open and you can hang out almost anywhere on campus.
Tips for prospective students Be open to any and everything because its really going to be the best experience of your life. college is sometimes a place where people find their true selves so don't be afraid to try new things. get involved in as much as you can and participate in the student events, they are really fun.
Bang for the buck Always keep your zipcard handy because without it you will be lost. If you're running late for class, you can jump on the roo express just show you zipcard as you enter. If you're hungry, feel free to grab something to eat at zees with your zipcard. If you need to print out a english paper then stop by the library where you can use your zipcrd to print at a low price.
Am enjoying being here I'm am definitely enjoying my time here so far, wouldn't rather be anywhere else. I love participating in student events, whether its finding out where Zippy is or attending their weekly movies in the Student Union.
Academic Rigor I am learning a lot of interesting information in most of my classes which causes me to think and ask questions which is good. i'm able to better understand the information and try to store it in my memory.

Tips for prospective students Like any colleges the best thing to keep in mind to go to classes, study, do your work, and have fun.
Am enjoying being here There are a lot of event that the university sets up so that you'll get used to the campus and have fun at the same time, such as concerts, movies, sporting events and etc. There are also many great places near the campus to visit like the Akron art museum, which is free to students.
Am learning a lot There are many different programs to choose from here, and there are many places on campus that provide help if you are having difficulties.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This college is great for students that enjoy a friendly environment. Those who don't mind people holding doors open for a perfect stranger, or professors that truly enjoy teaching. Students that want a teacher that knows what they are teaching, enjoys it, and truly wants to help each student do their best to succeed. This is also a great college for students that are looking for a large school, but still have smaller class sizes, and a group of people that they will be around more then others with their major. With the exception of some lectures, class sizes are about the same as an average high school class of around twenty to thirty students.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should be sure they have everything lined up and planned out before they start (like dining plans and dorm arrangements) to make the transition smoother. They should also have someone they can ask those little questions to that might pop up out of no where. An academic advisor is nice, but finding an older student with the same or similar major that one can talk to is nice for the questions that come out of no where like how a certain professor prefers a paper to be written.
Bang for the buck It is expensive, but all colleges really are, however it is worth it in my opinion.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and it is very convinient. I enjoy being able to just wake up and walk to class, because the dorm locations are ideal. It was very easy to choose a dorm close to where I knew I'd spend most of my time. Classes are enjoyable as well, even those that I worried I wouldn't enjoy. Of course the food must be mentioned too. At first it was difficult getting used to how the meal plans worked, but now it is very simple and convenient. There are locations to use meal swipes across campus with many different options which is nice because at anytime you want you can switch up what your eating. In general everyone here is kind as well. I haven't ran into rude people, it is a really nice environment to be in. Overall I really do enjoy being here
Am learning a lot I love all of my classes. Even the classes I am taking that I didn't really enjoy in high school, like various History courses, are pretty cool here. The professors know what they teach very well and are willing to help students if they need help.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking for a good education but might not have the means to pay for a private university should look into the University of Akron. It is great for students who like the feel of a traditional campus as well as those who prefer an urban feel. Downtown Akron is in view of the school but you still get the secluded feel of a campus.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour with an actual student rather than a University conducted tour. This way, you will be able to see what you will actually be experiencing. The tour guides that work for the school tend to show the brand new dorms and the best classrooms when, in reality, prospective students will not see those as freshman.
Bang for the buck Because it is a state university, Akron has very reasonable tuition. Students definitely get a quality education for a sensible price. The classes are challenging and the teachers know what they are talking about. There are also a lot of extras that are included in tuition including a bus line that has routes around campus.
Am enjoying being here There are plenty of things to do around campus from bowling to rock climbing and even free concerts. Students are constantly receiving emails about what is happening on campus. There is no time to be bored with so much going on around you.
Am learning a lot As a freshman, I was intimidated by the thought of college level courses. However, all of the classes move at a manageable pace and the instructors make it very easy to receive help if you need it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I really think Akron could be a place for anyone. There are so many different types of people. You just have to make the most out of your college experience but make sure you don't waste your time or money! Good Luck!
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would have is if your going to live in a dorm definitely meet your new roommate. I would say at least twice. It would make it less awkward. I would have your parents meet each other on move in day.(my roommates parents wouldn't talk to mine. I would of like for them to know who they are if we had problems.) Another thing is get involved, I know everyone says it but do. I had little amount of friends until I went Greek. Trust me everyone thinks its like the movies but its not. I have 60 sister that would do anything for me and I would do the same. We all have this bond. The last thing find people in your classes. its helps, I text most of them for help and then you don't have to sit alone either.
Bang for the buck I think that Akron is worth it. I am already taking classes for my major and loving it. I live in a dorm and I find that it is worth the experience the first year. You meet new people and learn so much from it. You also has a student union where there things like free bowling and movie for the students. They also do some free events too. They are all great.
Am enjoying being here I love going to school at Akron because I have made life long friendships. I can always count on this people. Also that my class work keeps me busy but since it's working towards my major; i love all of it. Plus you will never be bored. Akron has many wonderful events.
Am learning a lot I feel as being a student of the University of Akron, I have learned a lot. You find that the classes are going to be harder but you get more information than high school. The professor go more in depth with the course. You learn that more of the learning comes from you than the professor. Another thing is that you really start to learn more about yourself because you have to do everything on your own. You become more independent.

Bang for the buck I am starting as a freshmen in the Fall of 2012. I have to learn more about the university in the fall.

Food and Dining I've only had lunch and dinner there. I can't give it a grade yet.
Dorm Life I loved my one night stay in the dorm.
Academic Rigor I haven't started my classes yet.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of advance orientation for new students. Get a mentor and tutor for your classes. Spend a night on campus to get acclimated to your new environment.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone can take advantage of the opprotunity. International, traditional, disabled, commuting, working parents, grandparents even. There are programs for almost everyone. Classes are offered both day & evening. Now, there are some local highschools who offer college classes. Something you have to look into.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want to do before you start. College is a huge step. If it is not what you want, look for other options. When you get there, stick to your plan & make sure it is realistic. They offer services for career planning. Follow your dreams! I started out in an unrealistic dream, but I am following my realistic dream. It is something I am good at. That is the key I have found, to my success.
Bang for the buck University of Akron offers many services & programs. it is up to you to utilize them. There are also services & plans for those who are not quite college material. It is up to the individual to find it & ask many questions.
Am enjoying being here There is a wonderful recreation center on campus. Discounts are provided throughout the city fro U of A students. Local theatres, churches, etc get involved in our school. Businesses are honored when a student wants to volunteer their time, or Interview the staff. There are also the special events throughout campus. Do not forget out wonderful steel drun band!
Am learning a lot Our professors are very experienced in their fields. They emphasize taking control of our education. When entering your actual major, experience & practice is emphasized.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who are independent that are not scared of the responsibility of campus life. Getting from one place to another is all on you--no parent to help you here. My focus is engineering and, from what I have heard, there is a pretty good program at the University of Akron.
Tips for prospective students Be organized and know how to manage your time. I had to learn the campus before I went to my first class. You do not think the campus is large until you have a class at one end and your next class is at the other end of the campus.
Bang for the buck I am using a public school scholarship right now, but when I check the costs for next year, it will not be too bad. I do not have to live on campus, so that helps out with the overall cost.
Am enjoying being here It is exciting to be on a campus while I am still in high school. I enjoy the freedom that you do not have in a K-12 school.
Am learning a lot It is a nice campus, but I worry about all the crime. I guess it is everywhere though. Most of my professors are pretty good, some are hard to understand because of their particular accents.

Categories Comments Campus Safety A lot of shifty things have happened around campus in the last year but as the school year goes on it's getting better. It's a little scary at night but you can have an escort walk with you if you don't think you'll make it to our car safely.
Greek Life Good parties, people who really have a bond with each other.
Clubs and Activities LGBTU, Greek Life, RooJews, Campus Focus, Billiards Team, Anime Club.
Great for these types of students All types of students! We have so many demographics in one space that there's someone for everyone to be friends with or have fun with. No one at University of Akron is alone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Springfest, Student Appreciation day, and Rock the Roo are fun traditions.
Bang for the buck Great quality of education at a reasonable price, especially with the rising costs of college around the country.
What to do for fun Sorority and Fraternity parties, Free bowling and movies in the Student Union, Clubs and groups.
Food and Dining The Union market and Rob's have the best food, though it can be pricey for a college student's budget. There's a variety and enough for a vegetarian like myself to eat at any given time.
Dorm Life I don't live in dorms because they're pricey but some of them seem like a really nice place to live if you have to money.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging but not unbearable.
Tips for prospective students Apply early to get scholarships from the school and get involved immediately. You don't have to be a party animal, but make friends! It makes even the hard weeks feel better.
In three sentences University of Akron is a positive educational environment. There are lots of clubs and groups to get involved in. I love every part of being a student here.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many professional performances held at the university including but not limited to musicals, concerts, comedy shows, and business speakers. I would recommend taking advantage of the student union to enjoy some bowling, pool, and the cheap theatre they offer to show movies on. Additionally, the recreation center offers gyms to workout in, racquetball courts, indoor tennis courts, swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, and even an indoor track on the top floor.
Food and Dining There are several places to eat on and right near the campus. Most restaurants in the area accept your student id (zip card) as a form of payment. I believe the selection of foods in and around the campus is quite abundant.
Dorm Life I have never experienced dorm life.
Academic Rigor Overall the university has a great selection of classes and a vast array of very knowledgeable professors. I believe you learn a great deal of information in your classes. The knowledge I have learned from this university will help me with life.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to work hard because nobody is there to hold your hand. The campus has everything you could possibly need. Don't underestimate the amount of work that needs to be done for your classes.
In three sentences The University of Akron has a state of the art campus with all the technology you could need at your disposal. The staff is very knowledgeable and are experts in their subject matter. I believe some of the older staff could be a little more helpful when explaining things instead of just assuming students know everything ahead of time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus rethinking race in january is a great way to learn about others.
Bang for the buck i can't stand favoritism in a classroom. every teacher should treat every student the same and let the grade reflect their work.
What to do for fun there are many events to attend at akron u. there are sports events, seminars and are always activies for the students
Food and Dining i love starbucks but the food and dining may be consider expensive. who can afford to eat on campus everyday? not many people can afford a healthy diets at campus rates.
Dorm Life i live off of campus so i wouldn't know about dorm life.
Academic Rigor i feel the teachers and homework are very flexible, maybe too flexible for some students. some teachers may be too lenyent on students.
Tips for prospective students research about loans, grants, scholarships and work study opportunities and don't be afraid to ask questions. if you don't understand talk to people. the beginning of your schooling starts before the classes. financial aide can be confusing.

Greek Life they dont have one that i know of at the moment.
Clubs and Activities idk what there clubs are called but they are really good and you get to go volunteer and really learn the things that they do but it pertains to the class that you have choosen.

Categories Comments What to do for fun the university offers countless activities to do for fun. they offer intermural teams for practically every sport there is. also, there are plenty of comedians, hypnotists, and much more that visit the campus almost weekly.
Food and Dining the main source of food on campus is rob's cafe. it is very hit and miss, but they also offer various made to order foods. there is also numerous places to eat inside the union and around campus.
Dorm Life i am a honors student and am living in the honors complex. the entire hall is overall clean. people are very friendly and i have already met people i can consider life friends.
Academic Rigor i am a mechanical engineer major so there is a lot of work involved. however, the university of akron's program is extraordinary and will easily pay off in the long run.
Tips for prospective students you must learn to balance work and play. college will be the best time of your life, but it could be cut drastically short of you do not put in the time and effort to keep up the grades.
In three sentences the university of akron is a very clean, well kept university with countless new people you meet everyday. the staff is very hands on and you are not just a number to them. also, if you love snow than this is the place for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the university of akron campus police and the city of akron police are thoroughly driving around and through campus to ensure everyone’s safety. ua also has campus patrol to guarantee safety. students can call campus patrol if they would prefer an escort around campus at night, need their car jumped, or if a student accidentally locked themselves out of their car. campus patrol has direct contact with uapd and can report suspicious events on campus.
Clubs and Activities the university of akron offers more than 200 different types of clubs which can all be found on their website.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the polsky building, located in downtown akron next to the university of akron’s summit college, hosts many classes. students can take the roo to and from the polsky building as a way of transportation from the main campus.
Bang for the buck the university of akron is frequently listening to student ideas to improve campus life and continuing to make students feel at home. with the excellence, opportunity, and energy the university of akron has to offer only we as students can embrace its future.
What to do for fun there is always something to do when students aren’t buried in their books. the university of akron has partnered with e.j. thomas hall to create activities such as boo at the roo, casino night, magicians, comedians, and the performing arts. the student union offers a game room, movie theater, planet underground, and musical performances at starbucks. the game room includes a bowling center and billiards while the movie theater hosts different movies every weekend. planet underground is a store where you can purchase or rent movies, games, and music. active students may like zumba, the rock climbing wall, and intramural sports the student recreation center offers. there is also a lazy river, whirlpool, and spa for those who like to be in the water. with all these activities on campus there will never be a dreary moment!
Food and Dining the university of akron offers numerous places to eat. with a meal plan you can eat just about anywhere. trackside grill, rob’s café, and the union market offer a diverse style of food. ohio burger, auntie anne’s, subway, starbucks, and einstein’s bagels are also some places available to eat on campus. there are also several restaurants outside of campus that deliver and accept zip cards. dave’s market, the local grocery store, is about a mile from campus and they too accept zip cards. the roo has a route that stops at dave’s for students who don’t have access to a car. zee’s convenience store, located on-campus, also offers a range of foods that students could simply make in their dorm rooms. in all, the university of akron’s dining service has an excellent variety to meet everyone’s eating needs.
Dorm Life living in the dorms is an excellent experience. living with your peers allows you to make life-long friends and study groups. all of your needs are right outside your door while living on campus. ua allows every student who lives in a dorm to have a car on campus with the designated parking pass and their own parking. safety is not an issue because getting into the dorm requires your zip card access to enter and there is around the clock staff to guarantee the safety of the building.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor depends on which classes you take and which teachers you have. only you know how much you can handle. take the amount of credits you’re comfortable with so you can handle all the classes and maintain good grades. no teacher is easier than the other. teachers have different styles of teaching and the ones that love the opportunity to embrace the learning of young men and women will show it in their work. bierce library offers a math, tutoring, and writing lab if students need extra help.
Tips for prospective students if looking for a campus with a small student to teacher ratio this is it. freshman classes can be large due to everyone having to take the basics, but once those are finished teachers will have more one on one opportunities with students. my advice to incoming students would be to never give up. college takes an enormous amount of dedication and can be stressful, but once you receive your diploma everything will be worth it.
In three sentences the university of akron makes me feel at home and everyone is willing to help as long as you are willing to ask for help. ua is continuously innovating the campus to new technology, updated building structures, and building brand new stadiums for the soccer and football teams. students have asked the campus be more environmental friendly and ua has responded by making more open grass area for students to sit outside and study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the university of akron has their own police department. they are growing in size to better serve the university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the university of akron and kent state football team battles each year for a wagon wheel. it is a major activity on campus.
What to do for fun there are so many things to do at the university. there are college parties, a rec center with a huge gym and pool, movie theater and sports all located on campus. there is also a very large theater that university of akron uses as well as the community.
Food and Dining there are a few resident food halls, but the university of akron its self has many restaurants on campus and surrounding the campus.
Dorm Life i have never lived in the dorms, but the university of akron has a mass amount of new and old dorms, as well as student apartment and housing.
Academic Rigor some of the classrooms are basic pencil and paper lessons. however, a lot of classes like to motivate and capture the students attention so they will retain the taught information.
Tips for prospective students coming in as a freshman, an individual is often overwhelmed by the amount of freedom you have as a student. you must learn to prioritize school, attend classes and do not procrastinate on assignments so that you can stay ahead. you do not want to fall behind because it is very hard to catch up!
In three sentences the university of akron is a very large and diverse college. there are many activities to become involved in that surround many different life styles and hobbies. finally, once your accepted into a degree of choice, that college has very caring faculty members that go above and beyond to help you succeed in your goal of graduation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is a large on campus police force. while on campus there are blue lights with help buttons, which can be seen at day or night, and they are set up so you can see one no matter where you are on campus. these are beneficial for other purposes than being robbed or harassed. if you or someone else are allergic to bee stings and are stung you can call for help by simply pushing a button. however, off campus there has been an uprise in violence lately, but the university always posts a warning/update after such events so that the population is aware.
Clubs and Activities there are hundreds of clubs and fraternity's or sorority's to join. what ever you are interested in there is bound to be a club or group for. just an example, there is a shooting range on campus which only allows rotc or gun club associates to shoot at. pretty cool.
Great for these types of students there is a large diversity of students here at ua. international, non-traditional and traditional students are evrey where. great melting pot!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus try the humus and tabbouleh made at the student union dinning hall. also every fall there is a greek festival at a church very close to the campus which you must go to and get a fresh gyro. also being in downtown akron you can go to free concerts in the summer, cook offs, and you are right by the akron aeros baseball field. everything is within a maximum 15 minute walk of campus.
Bang for the buck there are tons of free activities going on all the time. even events that are free to your entire family. the state of the art recreation/traning facility is enormous and free to students. there are several libraries, print stations, and food courts throughout the campus. the best thing i have found is the tutoring services on campus. these people are saints in my book.
What to do for fun there are several diversity groups that host special speakers monthly that are very interesting and fun to attend. also ua has one of the best and most exciting ncaa soccer teams you could ever witness.
Food and Dining the dinning hall in the student union is awesome. ethnic foods and the traditional comfort foods served daily. then afterwards you can go bowling, watch a movie, or play billiards all for free.
Dorm Life i do not live on campus, but there have been extensive renovations and new facilities built on campus which are really nice.
Academic Rigor in the eet field of studies the courses curriculum is challenging; however, all those math equations you have asked a million times what will i ever use this for? you will get to actually use and see something transpire. ua has the leading polymer technology programs in the world.
Tips for prospective students look around town for some cheaper housing if you are going to live on or near campus. take advantage of the excellent advising services, adult focus services, and tutoring services around the campus. look into all the scholarships that are available to you and apply for them all. you can't get them if you don't try. last but not least, ua has the leading polymer technology programs in the world.
In three sentences the staff in the eet undergraduate programs are very supportive and outgoing. as a non-traditional student i feel comfortable in these surroundings. i returned to higher education after 12yrs in the work force and have been fortunate to study under such great instructors.

The Student Union also sets up shows, musicians, hypnotists, comedies, open mic nights, and numerous other activities.
Food and Dining The food and dining is okay. I am not a fan of fastfood, but right around the cornor is Rob's. Rob's, which is a buffet, has a little bit of everything. Categories Comments Campus Safety University of Akron police prowl the University in their cop cars making sure all students are happy and safe. Not only are the police on campus, they make sure the living off campus is safe as well. I love having concerned policemen making my life safer once I moved off of campus. Also, the University provides over a hundred blue light signal bases, where the student in need would press the button and help is automatically on its way because it is signaled with the GPS location.
What to do for fun Downtown Akron is a wonderful place for sightseers a like. In town there is the Akron Aeros baseball stadium, Quaker Square, and of course (for those old enough) bars all around. Hungry? Downtown provides different varieties of delicious foods!
Food and Dining There are plenty of options as far as dining is everywhere. From the student union to Rob's cafe. Dining meets every individual needs, whether you like Asian cuisine or just the normal Western foods. The University of Akron provides meal programs for the on campus students as well as off campus students. Akron accommodates to all its students.
Dorm Life I have lived on campus for two years and they have been the best two years of my life. I enjoyed all the activities that the Residence Hall and Program Board put together for everyone. They do not leave anyone out and all are welcome to participate!
Academic Rigor There are over 300 different bachelor programs at the University of Akron. All of which promote success in every individual.
Tips for prospective students The professors I have experienced have been very helpful and understanding, as well as the advisers here at the University. Campus is a short distance from downtown and the University's Summit College. Be a part of a wonderful and new experience here at the University, you will feel very welcome!

Dorm Life The new residence halls are gorgeous and very nice. lot's of university sponsored activities are nice too
Academic Rigor The courses I took were quite difficult and I really had to put forth an effort. The professors are willing to do what they can to help.
Tips for prospective students Don't apply last minute. If you're transferring, do it yourself! Don't have mommy or daddy call for you.
In three sentences Great urban campus, close to everything. UA is constantly growing and changing, a really great school. Stay away from going to far south of Exchange Street, shady doesn't even begin to describe it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety On campus safety is not a concern, as there is a plethora of law enforcement officers located all over campus. For off-campus, there are University Park police officers staffed to walk the streets of the houses that students live in off-campus. There is also a police escort program for those students that do not feel safe walking alone at night.
Greek Life I do not participate in Greek Life but from speaking with other students on campus that are in greek life, they love everything about the sorority or fraternity they are in.
Clubs and Activities There is a fabulous Recreation and Wellness center on campus to provide fitness programs for all ages, including intramural sports being offered for students to participate in.

Bang for the buck On wednesdays, Euro Gyro has $5.50 large 1 topping pizzas. There is an Aldi's grocery store located near campus that has very cheap grocery items compared to the Dave's Market and Giant Eagle locations near Akron.
What to do for fun The university is located near downtown Akron, which includes a few bars and clubs for students to go to on the weekends. The Akron Aeros play at the downtown baseball stadium as well if students wanted to attend a game there. You will meet a ton of new people and make new friends so I'm sure you will find a fun in some way.
Food and Dining The food and dining have decent choices. Currently you are unable to pay for Subway with your meal plan, and there is not a plethora of choices to chose where to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at. There are however numerous off-campus locations to eat at, but you would have to drive to get to a few of them.
Dorm Life There are two brand new dorms on campus, as well as plenty of previous dorms all filled with numerous fun activities. There is almost one event every day that is offered by the residence life staff if you have the time to participate.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is not difficult for your general education classes as long as you try your best at getting good grades in the classes. Of course, the classes you take in your college of choice are more difficult and challenging but rightfully so.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I would rate The Univerity of Akron's campus a four out of five. UA does go through many precautions to ensure the students are unharmed, including: UA campus patrol, police officers around campus, emergency buttons across campus, etc. Although, I have received emails about numerous robberies and students held at gunpoint, many of these occurred in the middle of the night or in a secluded and unsafe part of Akron. I have never had any issues with robberies, stalkers, etc., and feel safe and sound while on The University of Akron's campus.
Greek Life I have many friends who are actively involved in The University of Akron's Greek life. UA offers twelve fraternity options, as well as, five sorority choices. Greek Life can be an awesome way to get involved in campus activities, get to know new people, and really feel like one is a part of the school.
Clubs and Activities The clubs and activities offered by The University of Akron seem to go over well with the students. Although, I have not participated in every single event, I have been to a handful. These activities often involve free food, coupons, gift cards, notebooks, and even music, all of which intrigue any college student.
Great for these types of students The University of Akron can be an excellent fit for any student looking to pursue a higher education. Throughout my years, I have interacted with high school students (in PSEOP), all of the way up to fifty and sixty years old. This school offers many options to accommodate a plethora of students, including disabilities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The University of Akron has many traditions that are specific to its' campus, including: the painting a large rock, the infamous Buchtel Hall building, and of course, UA's mascot Zippy.
Bang for the buck The University of Akron's tuition costs are definitely reasonable and I believe for the most part students are getting what they pay for. The only times when students are wasting their money, is when they do not apply themselves to their studies.
What to do for fun The University of Akron offers many different outlets for students to relax and have fun. Some of these activities involve: The Spring Fest, band concerts, the rec center, observing ice sculpting during the winter season, fraternities and sororities, sporting games, The Family Fun Festival, and many more.
Food and Dining Over the past semesters, I have dined at many different places, most of which are located in the campus' Student Union. My favorite places to eat lunch are: Auntie Annes, The Market, and Subway. If I am on the go and do not have time to sit, I often will grab a snack from Zees. Although I do not have a package with Robs, I have heard that the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable.
Dorm Life Although I personally do not live on The University of Akron's main campus, I have heard from a variety of people that the dorms are nice. I know a couple students who live in the honors dorms, and have heard that those are especially large and comfortable.
Academic Rigor I believe the University of Akron takes its academic rigor seriously, as their goal is to see students succeed. Professors want to see their pupils ace their class, however, because it is not always possible, they do in fact stick to the rules of the college.
Tips for prospective students I would encourage prospective students to take a tour of The University of Akron's main campus, as it would be beneficial for students to see the infamous Bierce Library, the Recreational Center, the Student Union, and what dorm life would be like. Other ideas involve talking with faculty and advisors about the programs being offered, in order to gauge if the University of Akron is a proper fit for the student.
In three sentences The University of Akron has many great benefits, including: a large and beautiful campus, a free recreational center, live events, free tutoring services, a wide variety of delicious foods, encouraging professors, and more. Over the past three years, I have gotten to know many of the faculty and advisors, and really enjoy their compassion and sincerity. I believe The University of Akron is an excellent college, looking to education a plethora of citizens.

Greek Life There are many fraternities, sororities.
Clubs and Activities There is an abundance of great activities available to students here.
Great for these types of students The school of engineering and chemistry at Akron are well-funded and have great instructors. Do not go here if you don't yet know how to act responsibly. College is not a party, it's an endurance test. Don't let this school take your money and kick you out; they do not care.
Bang for the buck The academic quality is terrible for the price, the place looks nice but is not worth the money.
What to do for fun There are a couple clubs within walking distance of the campus and the University has competitions between the dorms in sports etc.
Food and Dining Most of the University owned food joints are about what you'd get at any pub or the like. I compare the quality to what you'd get at Applebee's, Friday's or any buffet-type restaurant.
Dorm Life Gallucci is an appalling dormitory and the price is near insanity. You will be living with two other people in a 14x21 hotel room and paying about 5500/total for the experience.
Academic Rigor Though I've only taken basic classes, the trend I notice is professors relying heavily on their teaching aids to do the daily instruction of their classes.
Tips for prospective students If there is another public institution nearby, close enough that you can commute, go there instead. The pretty campus is great, but if you want more rigorous instruction, look elsewhere.
In three sentences The University of Akron has a beautiful campus. The University of Akron overcharges for textbooks. The University of Akron increases tuition 3.5% each semester, the academic quality of the institution does not increase in correlation with the tuition hike.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is one of the most important things students need to consider. Akron is unfortunately placed in a poorer end of town which consequently results in a higher crime rate than other colleges. Fortunately for students, Akron has considered this and given students more than enough safety tools such as the Roo Express, campus police, and hotlines for students to call if they need someone to pick them up or walk them home.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It may not be unusual, but Akron always has a ton of festivals and events going on through out the year and into the summer. It is impossible to have a bad time at these events.
What to do for fun Akron has so much to offer students when it comes to extra curriculars. For example, the Rec is always packed with people working out, renting basketball courts, swimming, ect. They even offer intermural teams as well as off campus activities like canoeing and rock climbing.
Food and Dining The dining halls are incredible. The buffet style halls are the best and having a zipcard really expands dining options for students. With the zipcard students can go to restaurants such as starbucks and subway and charge the amounts to their meal plans.
Dorm Life Again, I have not attended yet, but from what I have seen with friends and tours, dorm life seems to be one of the best qualities Akron has to offer. Dorms are spacious, there seems to always be a new residance hall being built and especially for freshman, the dorms are where many will meet their new best friends.
Academic Rigor Though I have not attended this college yet, I have had many friends who have attended the University of Akron. I believe the academics to be challenging but nothing unmanagable. Most students would be content with the academics as long as they stay focused on school rather than socializing.
Tips for prospective students One tip for prospective students is to not base their decisions about attending UA off of other peoples word. Any student who is considering Akron should schedule a college visit and check out the campus themselves. It is much easier to see yourself at this college once you have interacted with the people and places on campus.
In three sentences The University of Akron is an ideal college for students who want the big campus look but the small community feel to it. This college is growing very quickly and is completely focused on making college life better for its students. Akron is a very nurturing school where all of its students have an equal opportunity to work on their educations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are audible crosswalks for the hearing impaired and many people bring bikes to get around. Everything is accessible and the maps that are available really help with getting acclimated to navigating on campus. Just don't walk down Exchange too late at night.
Clubs and Activities The Akron orchestra is a pleasure to witness every time they play. There are many different club activities. The student union even has a bowling alley on the lower floor.
Great for these types of students Any student will be happy at the university of Akron. Keep yourself engaged in classes and/or college life to stay mentally healthy and have as much fun at college as you can.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Kent better watch out for the football game in Fall 2012! It's our turn to take back what is ours.
What to do for fun Anything and everything. There are multiple sporting events that are crazy and fun. Go to the rec to blow off steam. There are many recreational courts and the recreational facility has basketball, many swimming pools, volleyball, an upper track and a well-kept fitness area. There are events at EJ Thomas Hall and plenty of dorm activities to get engaged in.
Food and Dining Rob's is a really cool place to grab a quick bite or to swing through the buffet lines. There is a deli, Asian buffet, and a regular buffet with standard American foods like chicken, salad and tacos. There is always something to eat there and there are even lunch lines at the student union on the second floor.
Dorm Life I have not been a part of dorm life at the University of Akron. I have been inside Spicer and the Honors Dorm and I am thoroughly impressed with all that the campus has to offer with on-campus housing.
Academic Rigor YOU CHOOSE HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR CLASSES! This is completely independent on the individual - you could be taking multiple classes or combining college with a part time or full time job. I would recommend talking to the professors and the upper classmen of your intended major and ask them about their experiences with their course load. There are free tutoring sessions in the Bierce Library just north of the Student Union that will get any questions answered that cannot be answered during lectures.
Tips for prospective students Akron is a little confusing to get around, so give yourself about half an hour on campus to find your class. If you are considering taking summer classes, you will learn a lot, grab some credits and have an awesome summer. Never pass up an opportunity - leave your comfort zone and meet some really cool individuals.
In three sentences The University of Akron is a terrific campus for college. This is my second semester and I am blown away by all of the fantastic staff members and the open environment of the campus. Everything is in great condition and they just put in a dorm for incoming freshmen - so cool!

Great for these types of students That like a bigger type of campus.
Bang for the buck All around Akron is an amazing school, and a great place to be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University of Akron is always.trying to improve their safety. Of course things will happen but you always have to be safe yourself. Walking with a group a friends at night is always encouraged if you're going to be out at night. I personally drive but shall you choose to walk at night always be safe and the police will even escort you. You just have to call them and ask them to.
Clubs and Activities I'm a club person myself. There are a lot of different places to go downtown Akron. You'll find on the weekends there are a lot of different things to do, the club is always an option but there are always people having sets at their homes where you can just sit relax and meet new people as I said before. 1 really cool thing is that the roo goes downtown on the weekend. So if you don't feel like driving or don't have a car you can always ride the roo.
What to do for fun Of course partying with the fraternities is always fun but there is also many activities around campus that they have throughout the school year. The football, basketball and soccer games are really fun as well. You'll find that going to Akron you will meet a lot of different people.
Food and Dining I used to have the Unlimited dining plan. With Unlimited we had 1000 swipes for Rob's Cafe. But if you're really looking for something where you can have access to Subway the market and so on etc I hear the Gold Plan is just one step up from the Unlimited dining plan and you have access to many fast food restaurants.
Dorm Life I currently live off campus but in my experience of the dorm life it was a great experience. Living in the dorms really helps you to get out and attend many activities. It also helps you with meeting new great people. Lifetime friends and aasociates many whom you'll find yourself speaking with outsidelow on campus.
Academic Rigor This will be my third year at Akron and I have done nothing but receive good grades. In getting good grades you have to stay focused, as I said before, also studying is key as well.
Tips for prospective students For a future student with intentions on coming to Akron I would say remain focused. That really applies to all schools; staying focused, remaining motivated, and striving to be and do anything possible. I have lived by this and since then have been successful at staying on the right path.
In three sentences The University of Akron is a great school the environment is very beautiful with a lot of diverse students being at Akron has helped me grow. UA is successful at helping you prosper and move on to the next step in your future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If you've got a late class or just feeling 'not-so-safe', you can always call a security guy who will walk you form point A to point B, and it's free.
Food and Dining Try not to dine at Rob's. There are other places you can go that are near by.
Dorm Life Didn't stay in a dorm. Though, I have seen them, and they are pretty.
Academic Rigor Depends on what your major is and how you take it. So far, the majority of my classes have been challenging, but not to the point of giving up.
Tips for prospective students Try and see where all the classes are before the first day of class, this university is getting a major make-over (for the better) and some buildings and rooms may look like they don't exist.
In three sentences Not too big and slightly on the smaller side, they always have activities going on including concerts and theatre showings! It's not hard to find something to do, especially with nearby places to go like clubs, bars, restaurants, parks and the rec to enjoy yourself. The university is growing though and getting better.

Categories Comments Campus Safety On campus is safe. When straying off campus, make sure you do not travel alone and know your way around the area. I suggest ladies have pepper spray and a rape whistle.
Greek Life Many fraternities and sororities. I would label them as average. I did not get into them too much so I don't have much room to talk.
Clubs and Activities With orgsync and the hub available to students, its hard not to find one you'll enjoy.
Great for these types of students I don't understand how to answer this question.
Bang for the buck The recreation center.
What to do for fun The wellness and recreation center, E.J. Thomas hall, intramural leagues, plenty of clubs and organizations to meet your needs, volunteering opportunities, pool hall and bowling lanes, sports, new films in the student union theater (free for students!), sibs weekend, festivals, etc.
Food and Dining Only one major dining hall (although there are other possibilities), it is located on the north side of campus which is far from some of the new dorms. In addition, the food becomes repetitive and unhealthy. Other restaurants and eateries are available to dine at.
Dorm Life The dorm life is prosperous. With the addition of the newest and largest dormitory this fall, Akron is slowly making it possible to be less of a commuter school. With brand new dorms its hard not to love where you live.
Academic Rigor Although it is open enrollment, the professors still push you to succeed. They want to see you understand the material and thrive in life and not merely get by. Most are genuinely interested in your future.
Tips for prospective students Become familiar with the area. Balance your academic life with leisure; seek out organizations/groups that interest you! Check out all of the facilities and opportunities the University has to offer; make the most of your experience and get the biggest bang for your buck!
In three sentences A promising up and coming university with expansion in residence housing and landscape molding. The University of Akron is home to one of the best engineering programs in the state. A college with a growing community and improving city.

Food and Dining There are lots of places on campus to eat. There are also a lot of options in terms of food types. There is no need to eat junk all the time when everywhere you turn there are restaurants preparing balanced meals. However, if you prefer junk, that is also readily available.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm. I live in an off campus student living apartment. I have heard great things and I have heard horrible things about on campus living; but you never know until you experience it for yourself. As for me, I enjoy living off campus.
Academic Rigor The classes offered are a good start to learning your desired profession. There are also honors classes available for those of you who are looking for a challenge.
Tips for prospective students Getting involved is just as important as your GPA; but be careful not to overwhelm yourself by committing to more than you can handle at one time.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The akron campus has its own police department, separate from The city of Akron police department, which means that if there is an issue, the first responder is already on campus. They offer escort services to walk you to and from classes, especially after dark. Very reassuring.
What to do for fun The recreation center is huge and has a ton of activities for students, including club sports, a pool, rock climbing wall, etc... The metroparks run through Akron and there is a zoo downtown as well. The nightlife is a lot of fun and within a few blocks walking distance from campus to the major downtown night clubs. Akron is also only about an hour from downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie.
Food and Dining The food on campus is standard university food with a medium range of choices. A sushi bar was just recently added and that was a great addition to add variety to the food court called the Market. The prices are a little high for the quality of food, especially if you do not have a meal plan with the university. There are a large variety of off-campus establishments that take our university zip cards for payment, which is really nice for students who live on campus.
Dorm Life I live off-campus, so I am not sure.
Academic Rigor Dependent upon the major the classes can be tough but usually only once you have reached the 400 level courses. As with any institution you will get out what you put into your schoolwork, if you want that good grade, regardless of the professor or workload, you must put in the time. Be sure to establish a relationship with your professor, this will let them know that you want to learn and most of the time they will be more willing to help you. Check out ratemyprof.com to read student reviews on every faculty member on campus. It helps when determining which classes to take and with which professors.

With its own University of Akron unit there is always a handful of well trained officers on duty at all times. Also there are emergency telephones and help buttons all over campus in case you are in need of assistance.
Great for these types of students If your the more Athletic-fitness type, you will definitely have a great time at UA recreational center. If your interest is in any type of Art whether it may be Music or Artwork will love E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Here the hall has a grand stage used for performances of many different groups with a large enough size to even hold an orchestra.

What to do for fun There are multiple things that you can do for fun at UA including all of the programs, clubs, Sororities/Fraternities, sports activities and more! We also have the Student Union and Recreational Center where there is always something going on to do for fun. You can even take a walk around campus or even a short ride towards downtown Akron to see all the fun lively things downtown has to offer.
Food and Dining The food and dining isn't completely terrible but it isn't like grandmas or moms cooking back home. Although there are many great restaurants and other food places you can go to near campus that you can enjoy whenever your craving that certain something.
Dorm Life I can't give an exact rating of the schools dorm life since I do not live in one at the school, but I know there are some amazing beautiful looking dorms and housing that are very nice. Some new dorms have been constructed and they look very nice from the inside out and seem like a great place to stay at.
Academic Rigor The Academic Rigor of UA is nothing less but great. All of the professors are there to help you succeed no matter the cost. Whether it be personal tutoring or more detailed explanations, to directing students to helpful tools and resources. The University has no lower standards than success and to the best of the students abilities.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would give some prospective students trying or thinking of attending this college is to just go for a visit. There is nothing more reassuring then going to a college when trying to choose the right one for you. Also ask friends or even students you know who go to that school for insight and perspective of how they enjoy or not enjoy life at that school. Finally if possible take a look at the atmosphere around you and see if you will feel comfortable being at that institution.
In three sentences If I was to rate my college, The University of Akron, out of ten I would give it a 8.5. Great for these types of students I feel very comfortable at UA. I come from a smaller town and have never really lived in a city. I feel very comfortable walking across campus any time day or night.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I live right by the football/soccer stadium. I joined the AK rowdies group, they are a group of students that go to the various sporting events. I do not go to all of the events, but it is fun when I get to go. EJ Thomas hall is unique to Akron, they host many music groups and entertainment from all over.
Bang for the buck I wasn't sure where I wanted to go to college. I looked at many in Ohio. I couldn't decide. My older brother was at UA he really liked it, so I decided to go to UA also. My parents encouraged my to try living in dorm. I met a lot of friends living in the dorms. The classes are not that big, so it wasn't overwhelming my first year.
What to do for fun The rec. center is alot of fun, rock climbing, lazy river, big pool, whirlpool. The student union has a movie theater, bowling, pool and food! EJ Thomas Hall is on campus, there a lot of programs there from comdians, magicians to plays.
Food and Dining I have the gold plan, so my spending is really flexible. I can eat on campus or off campus at many places. I can also go to Dave's supermarket or Giant Eagle and use my UA gold plan car to buy food. They have transportation to Dave's if you don't have car.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice. This is my second year in Spicer Hall, I like it mainly because there are 2 people to a room and share one bathroom. There are really nice common rooms on each floor with game tables and flat screen TV's. Also study rooms on each floor if you want it quiet.
Academic Rigor Depends what classes you are taking, I'm in pre-pharm. So I am getting into the harder classes this year. As stated previously if you need help with any class you can find it.
Tips for prospective students If you need help in a class, go to tuitoring center. There is plenty of help if needed. Use the rec. center there is a lot to do and the student union is a great place to hang out. The dorms are nice, this is my 2nd year in Spicer Hall.
In three sentences UA is a great school. If you get bored it's your own fault, they really reach out to students with plenty of activities. The professors and TA's are great, they really want to help you in each of the classes. The dorms and rec. center are really nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Akron may get a bad rap for safety but that's just a stereotype of the city, not reality. There's plenty of campus and dorm security, not just anyone can walk into the dorms. If there's ever a problem there are emergency telephones placed all around campus, I usually pass at least one while walking to a class. I feel very safe here.
Clubs and Activities There are a wide range of clubs everyone is sure to find something the enjoy. From the most popular club being the AK Rowdies to the more obscure such as the anime club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a big rock that was split in half located in the middle of campus. If you walk between the two halves of the rock during finals week, you are guaranteed good luck.
Bang for the buck The reason people turn to higher education, is to open themselves up to a higher paying job. Education is an investment, that you hope to get a return on plus more. Akron helps their students achieve this, they offer lifelong career support services for their students.
What to do for fun Join clubs and intermurals! The AK Rowdies are the university's most popular club, they cheer on all the schools sports teams. There are plenty of other clubs and volunteer activities to suit any student.
Food and Dining There are a lot of dining options at The University of Akron, the most popular being Rob's cafe - the universities main dining hall. The food at Rob's is great, most is made to order and you will never run out of options here. Most other places on campus accept meal plans including: Subway, Auntie Annes, Ohio Burger Company, Summit Bistro, Trackside Grill and Union Market.
Dorm Life It's very easy to meet people in the dorms, in fact if you live in a dorm that's probably where you'll meet most of the people you know. Living here is very safe, there's plenty of security to make sure not just anyone can walk into one. Most of all they're a fun place to live.
Academic Rigor The standard classes freshman take aren't unexpectedly hard. There will be much more to work on outside of class compared to highschool but the material isn't significantly harder. As long as students put a reasonable amount of effort into their work, they should make a reasonable grade.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus to make sure you feel at home when you are here, and be aware a lot of students attending this school are commuters. It's not expensive to have a car on campus, and I would reccomend bringing one. It won't be the end of the world if you don't although if you want to go to concerts, the groccery store, or anyother type of resteraunt/shop you probably won't be able to get there by walking.
In three sentences The University of Akron will probably be great for you if you're from the area, and know a few people going here. It is a somewhat commuter campus, which makes it a little more difficult to meet people. On a positive note, the people are friendly, the class sizes are small and the professors are helpful.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It cost a lot more than I think it is worth. Everything on campus is overpriced. Nice school hoodies and shirts are made though.
What to do for fun There's not a lot to do here but party when you are bored. The club scene off campus is very mediocre. You could find a organization to do though, I didn't yet.
Food and Dining There's a lot to choice from when you hungry. The places are all spread out though. Some are bunched togeter but others are farther out from the university.
Dorm Life The dorms here are pretty nice. It's cheaper to stay off, but close to campus. Its a safe environment.
Academic Rigor Programs like nursing and engineering are really good here. Some professors are kind of snotty. This is a harder school academically.
Tips for prospective students It's not hard to get accepted here. If you did really bad in high school, they probably won't take you. So keep your grades up.
In three sentences This school isn't that bad. I've just had bad luck here. I would rate it at a C+. I don't believe it should cost how much it cost to go here.

Dorm Life Great Dorm Life. Rooms are cozy and create a home away from home experience.
Academic Rigor Class sizes are relatively small, which gives more opportunity to ask difficult questions and understand the courses you are taking better.

In three sentences The University Of Akron has a beautiful campus that anyone can appreciate. The small class sizes are great when it comes to asking questions and participating in class. They also do well with on campus activities and overall involvement.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many fun things to do on campus such as the bowling alley, pool hall, and student union movie theater but there are other things to do off campus. There are two malls that are relatively close to the university as well as college clubs that focus more on college students safety than anything.
Food and Dining Honestly, the food could be better but there are a lot of fast food locations around campus so you'll never be hungry
Dorm Life Living in a dorm is fun because of all of the people you'll meet. The only problem is the lack of privacy
Academic Rigor The classes that I am currently enrolled in constantly test my knowledge. Although the classes you will take depends on your major I think all the classes will force a challenge upon anyone
Tips for prospective students Stay focused because there will be a lot of distractions as with other schools Finish work before you go out, it's funner and you worry less about assignments

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been several incidents near campus, but nearly none on the inside of campus. Everyone should remember the be smart, stay to the inside of campus and utilize the police escorts whenever you find it necessary.
Greek Life There are plenty of sororities and fraternities for students to choose from. They do a great job with recruiting at the beginning of the year.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs that I found it difficult to keep up with one that suited me, though I'm sure there were several. There always seem to be programs and activities going on around campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a large rock outside the back of the Student Union. Students enjoy decorating this rock with spray paint so it is constantly changing pictures and colors over night. The rumor is that the rock has doubled it's size with so many layers upon layers of paint.
What to do for fun Downtown Akron is easily within walking distance. There is always something to do there if you feel that you don't want to participate in the many programs and activities that are constantly happening throughout campus.
Food and Dining The University is expanding the offered dining options. It is usually very good food, though the variety could use some expansion.
Dorm Life The University of Akron is working hard to make things more comfortable for the students who decide to stay on campus rather than commute. The rooms are comfortable, the buildings are cleaned regularly and security is definitely enough.
Academic Rigor Most professors are of high quality, always teaching what is in the curriculum by the book. Occasionally, there is the instructor that you'll learn to avoid but overall everyone seems qualified.
Tips for prospective students Trust the returning students, they're always willing to help out whether it's with finding a classroom or deciding what to eat at the buffet, everyone has been there before.
In three sentences This University is a prospering community with a wide variety of diversity in cultures, majors, hometowns, faculty and student situations. As it is with many schools, it is what you make it. The University of Akron provides great educational foundation for those willing to grow.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police do an incredible job of ensuring the safety of all students.
Greek Life From being apart of the Greek community, I can attest that joining a sorority has been the best decision of my collegiate career. I have made so many new friends, been exposed to new opportunities, and feel like I have found the perfect place where I belong. There's a home for everyone in the Greek Life at UA!
Great for these types of students Anybody and everybody! There truly is something for everybody, and I guarantee that you can find your spot here on campus.
Bang for the buck The University of Akron is a great option for a small school feel, while you're really attending a large university. There is so much offered besides educational opportunities, it'll exceed your expectations.
What to do for fun What isn't there to do? Hang out in the Student Union, or hit the gym! Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night a movie is shown in the theater in the Union. There is also a game room complete with bowling and billiards. Or check out one of the over 200 student organizations! Likewise, a very active Greek life is waiting to welcome you to the Greek community! There's a little bit of everything, and something or everyone.
Food and Dining Rob's is the main dining hall at UA. For one swipe of your card (off of your meal plan) you're welcomed to a buffet of an abundance of food choices. Don't feel like eating in the dining room? Then take your Rob's to go! Also available are an even wider variety of dining options in the Student Union, from Subway to the Union Market. If you're ever in need of a convenience store type run, check out Zee's at their two convenient locations.
Dorm Life There are many options for room and board. From dorms to apartments to housing, there is some of everything. No matter what you're looking for you'll be able to find it here. With in building laundry, (some) in room bathrooms, and enough space for appliances and even a TV in your room, there's not much to complain about!
Academic Rigor While some majors are harder than others, you'll have a wide variety of difficultly in your classes. For example, a speech class will be much easier than organic chemistry. However, I see this as a positive. You'll be challenged in any class you take, but not every class will be a heavy burden you're entire educational experience. It all depends on what you choose to do, but like any university you will be challenged in different ways.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of everything offered to you! Whether it be the free tutoring, access to the rec, or joining a club sport, the University of Akron is what you make it.
In three sentences UA has an absolutely beautiful campus! There is such a wide variety of classes and majors to choose from that there is something for everyone. It's hard to find any major negatives.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is wonderful here, you have escorts to take you home if your a distance away from your home and don't have a way back there. There's always police patroling and there's always emergency polls if your walking home and theres an emergency.
What to do for fun What I like to do for fun at the University of Akron is go swimming and work out. Them are the two best things for me to do. It keeps my mind occupied and gives me something to do when there's nothing to do.
Food and Dining The food here is awesome. Robs cafe and track side are my favorite. If you don't like eating on campus, the campus is surrounded by many fast food places around you that a person might enjoy.
Dorm Life I stay off campus in apartments I like them. You have your sense of independency, noones watching you and you can leave and come back when you like. There are no rules when it comes to living off campus, you have a chance to really mature and grow into a adult.
Academic Rigor The academics here are very helpful. I started off in a lower math class and it actually helped me and build my math skills so I could be prepared for the harder math courses.
Tips for prospective students Coming in as a freshman it was hard for me to stay focused. Staying focused is very important and you should do so. Just because you might not get a credit for a class that is recommended that you take you still want to take it seriously because it still impacts your GPA which is very important when it comes to college.
In three sentences The University Of Akron is a very nice school. You have the chance to be yourself and do the courses and classes that you enjoy. They also have many diverse courses and many majors and minors that people will enjoy.

Food and Dining Depending on your meal there are some really good places to eat on campus. If you have a traditional meal plan your options are limited unfortunately but if you have a Gold plan you can pretty much eat anywhere on campus and a few places off campus. The only not so great thing about college dining is that you sometimes get tired of always eating the same things.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fun but can also be stressful at times. There are so many amazing people to meet. Although living in a dorm isn't cheap, it really is a great experience.

Dorm Life I absolutely LOVE dorm life at UA.I live in Spicer Hall and it is always very clean, and we always have different fun activities going on there.I know everyone in my dorm because it is a Living Learning community so almost all of us have classes together which makes it easier to make friends.I LOVE dorm life!
Academic Rigor I feel that the academics at UA are very impressive in the sense that the professors keep you on your toes and really make you think and learn about the material, instead of just teaching it.

Bang for the buck Between the large variety of majors and degree option students get the most for their money. The University offers free tutoring and even free health care. Food and Dining Their are many dinning options that offer meals from around the globe. The University also works with surrounding eateries to offer even further meal options while still staying on a meal plan through the university.
Dorm Life I am not sure what dorm life is like, I live off campus.
Academic Rigor The pass at which you go through their programs is set to ensure your success. Meeting with an adviser will help keep you on track. Many of the programs are competitive, but this is to ensure you are going to be successful in a competitive field after graduation.
Tips for prospective students Take the Focus testing before declaring your major and sit down with faculty in the department you are interested in. And if you are undecided remember you can speak to the academic adviser in any area if you have questions.
In three sentences The University of Akron is an outstanding school. The staff places an infuses on bringing a diverse perspective to the world and the way their students view it. They are out to just get students in seats for tuition dollars but go above and beyond to insure their students are going to succeed not just in their field of study but in the world after graduation.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Student that like the city life, but do not necessarily love the huge crowds associated with big cities and large campuses.
Bang for the buck This is a reasonable school, though a bit in the mid-range for a state public school.
What to do for fun The campus offers free movies with your card, as well as, special events corresponding to holidays and nationally recognized weeks such as China week.
Food and Dining A great selection, and most is priced reasonably to allow a college student with a tight wallet to still eat.
Academic Rigor Most classes are challenging enough for you to know you are learning something, but not too hard as to make you have a nervous breakdown every couple days. The amount of credit hours is a good reflection of the amount of work needed for the class.
Tips for prospective students Locate your building for classes on the map (and your parking if you are a commuter) before the first day of class. Perhaps even walk the campus.
In three sentences The University of Akron is continuously striving to be innovative. Despite their larger campus, there is a great deal of convenience. A good place to get your degree.

Clubs and Activities This college offers many different clubs and activities of all sorts.
Bang for the buck I believe Akron charges a little too much for what they offer.
What to do for fun The campus is surrounded by bars and clubs, but that is about all there is as far as fun places go.
Food and Dining Food around campus is accessible, affordable, and tasty.
Dorm Life I did not live in a dorm, but some people like it and some people do not from what I hear.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck A+ when you look at all that is available to you as a student for the cost of going to school here. Like anywhere, college is what you make of it, but you can do many things here academically, athletically, or socially that makes this the ideal place to go to college.
What to do for fun There are many things to do on campus and off campus. You are less than an hour from Cleveland and a half hour from Canton. Malls, movies, art, night life, sports, etc.
Food and Dining On campus food is typical of any college. Akron does have many great places to eat within 10-15 minutes of the campus and whether you take your own car or public transportation you have lots of opportunities to choose from.
Dorm Life I commute to school every day, but I do have friends that live on campus and while walking on campus I know that Akron has many on campus and off campus living environments. There is constant construction going on for more parking and more housing.
Academic Rigor Having spent the my first two years at Tiffin University, I can tell you that there is a major difference between a smaller private school and a public state school. Class sizes are typically larger and the instructors are not as tenured as they were at the private school. While the demands are not as great, the expectations are...you will need to study and attend classes, and you will find then to be interesting and time well spent.
Tips for prospective students Make a list of what is important to you while attending college. It should include on campus and off campus activities that are important to you. Rate Akron on the areas you list as important to you. Then look at the cost of attending Akron versus your other choices. I hope you are pleased at what you see.
In three sentences You will be very surprised by what this university can offer in terms of athletic facilities, student housing, and academic programs. The cost of attending school here is very reasonable when comparing it to other colleges in Northeast Ohio. The majority of students commute so traffic and parking can be a problem here and there, but for those living on campus you will be pleased with what Akron has to offer.

Tips for prospective students Akron is a large campus so be prepared to walk miles daily. Tuition continues to rise each year that I attend, so beware of that. Food on campus is really expensive, so either pack your lunch when you will be stuck there all day or go eat off campus to save yourself some money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Due to the location of the school (downtown Akron) the campus could be a little more safe. There is a University Police station and emergency poles, with buttons to press if you are in an emergency that immediately alert the campus police . If the University police are called they can be at the scene in about a minute! The school also has a service available so that if you need an escort to your car (if it's night time or you are just concerned).

Great for these types of students This school is great for outgoing and excited students. Everyone at the University of Akron is so friendly and willing to help you to feel accepted and comfortable. It is also great to the students that are excited and ready for a great education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know of anything 'unusual' about the University of Akron.
Bang for the buck There are a wide variety of classes you can take and the tuition is not the highest at this school. I believe that you get much more out of the education, than the amount of money that you put into this school. They have so much to offer!
What to do for fun Since I am not on campus a lot, I do not know all of the extra activities that the school provides, but I do know we have great options. There is a bowling alley and a billiards room in the Student Union, along with a movie theater! The school is also very close to all the major events that occur downtown. We also have our own recreation center with a pool and all the workout equipment you could ever need.
Food and Dining We have a wonderful selection of food at the University of Akron! Any kind of food you could possibly desire, we have: Subway, Auntie Anne's, Starbucks, McDonald's, and Ohio Burger, just to name a few. We have the Market in the Student Union that also has a variety of dishes, along with Rob's, a buffet of endless options!
Dorm Life I personally commute to campus each day, but the dorms at the University of Akron are great! There are multiple residence halls to choose from, again to help you find your place.
Academic Rigor It is as challenging as you make it. Some professors are considered 'difficult,' but if you need help and ask for it you will be able to make it.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest that you take a campus tour, so you have a good idea of where all the cool, helpful places are. There are also some services that are free to students and are well worth the time. If you need help, ask! Everyone is really helpful and happy to help you improve.
In three sentences The University of Akron is not a very large university, compared to some, but it is still diverse and has a comfortable atmosphere. It has a variety of areas of study, and excellent resources to help your find your place. The layout of the campus is well organized and provides comfort for new students.

What to do for fun There are tons of campus activities! The Gorge is a beautiful state park located only 5 minutes from campus! There is the bike towpath that you can take up to Cleveland.
Food and Dining The food is like most colleges...bland and not very good quality. The market is probably the shining place on campus located in the student union. There can be good days though!

Bang for the buck The cost is fairly cheap and although the quality of education can be improved, the resources available here are plenty!
What to do for fun The student union has bowling alleys, many pool tables, a free movie theater open to all students and game rooms! There is also a student recreation center with tons of workout equipment and one of the largest rock walls on a college campus in America! The campus has a lot of greenery to explore and relax on! There are many social events going on through the University almost everyday! You just have to be alert!
Food and Dining The food options are not the greatest but could definitely be worse! As long as you get the Gold Plan, your food choices shall be vast!
Dorm Life There are a lot of different styled residence halls available to everyone! The hall government in each of these resident halls does their best to plan activities that involve their residents! It is through these activities that you will most probably meet the most people in your residence hall and make many friends and have tons of fun!
Academic Rigor The quality of teaching could definitely be improved.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering the University of Akron, be mindful of the distance from home and the housing options you. Although you may have heard that outside of campus is very dangerous, it is the same for every campus. As long as you use common sense and are wise with your decisions, you will be alright coming here!
In three sentences This university, although has a great variety of resources for all of its students no matter what major, these resources are often hard to be known about. Greek Life It's very expensive to be a part of this. Also, it has seemed to turn into a game of drinking till you drop instead of the traditional greek values.
Clubs and Activities There's one for everyone!
Great for these types of students Students willing to work to obtain their degree
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We do it at 9:03!
Bang for the buck The only thing keeping this from five stars is the few professors that have forced me to essentially teach a course to myself.
What to do for fun Many of the varsity sports games are free, intramural sports can be joined, and there are random events scattered throughout each semester.
Food and Dining The dining halls are pretty good if you mix it up a bit, but the Gold Plan is great (McDonald's and Taco Bell!)

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are buzzers all over campus that send a call directly to the campus police, which is very nice. But, because you are on the edge of downtown Akron, there are, of course, unpleasant people. As long as you stay on campus you feel very safe. Once you venture on the outskirts of campus it gets a little scary.
Clubs and Activities There is an endless list of clubs and organizations. They are all great. Its a great opportunity to get involved on campus and to make new friends.
Great for these types of students Students who enjoy making new friends, sports, great scenic views around the area, and for students that want just the right mix of education and fun.
Bang for the buck Tuition has increased steadily for the past couple of years because they are adding so many new buildings to the campus. This is okay if you use those buildings, or live in the new dorms. I don't personally get to use anything other than the new stadium so I don't particularly care for the increase in tuition for new buildings. It's standard price for classes, some are worth the money, and some I regret paying for because I didn't enjoy it or learn anything.
What to do for fun There is a brand new stadium on the heart of the campus, plenty of sporting events that take place on campus, there is greek life, a club or organization for just about anything you can think of, great dining experiences and clubbing just down the road, and E.J. Thomas Hall where local and national celebrities come to do shows.
Food and Dining Akron has a pretty decent variety of places to eat and choices of what to eat. Akron has really taken into consideration other cultures and has a variety of foods to choose from. Although if you try to eat at lunch time on a weekday, be prepared for long lines.
Dorm Life It all depends where you stay. I've heard some great things about the newer more expensive dorms, and some not so good things about the older dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor Academics are pretty standard. Some classes are hard, some are easy. It depends on your willingness to study and take part in the class, and it depends on the professor.
Tips for prospective students My tip for prospective students is to enjoy the campus as much as you can. With an all-star soccer team and a brand new stadium, there is so much to do here. Take time to make friends, because there are so many interesting people from all over the world that come to the University of Akron. Being in the heart of downtown Akron, there is a never ending list of festivities, events, and other things to do.
In three sentences The University of Akron has a beautiful college campus with a lot of great new additions. Akron is always trying to improve the campus for its students and faculty, and make efforts to be more environmentally friendly to the earth. I would rate the University of Akron highly for its efforts to have a beautiful campus and fantastic organizations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Could be better. On campus it's pretty safe; there are emergency alert posts and patrols at night. In areas near campus, especially neighborhoods, there are several robberies every semester. Don't walk by yourself at night.
Greek Life Seems pretty active, though I'm not involved in it.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs on campus which are generally well-organized and active. Out of everything, the university does a good job giving its students access to clubs and such.
Great for these types of students Engineers â?? the engineering programs are great; people wanting to save money
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a SpringFest every year and there have been popular bands in the past - Owl City and 3OH!3 most recently. There's a rock outside of Crouse Hall that is repainted by different groups. We have an ice carving event every year that's fun. Our mascot is a kangaroo named Zippy, which is unique. She's also one of the few female college mascots in the country!
Bang for the buck Akron is a really affordable school and they were also very generous with scholarships for me personally. You have to put in effort to get the most out of it, but as long as you take initiative and take advantage of opportunities, you'll go far.
What to do for fun The student union has a game room and a theater with free movies if you're looking to stay on campus. Downtown Akron is close, and there are plenty of clubs and bars, as well as seasonal events. The rec center has free classes, and it's fun to go with friends.
Food and Dining A lot of variety and generally good food. Zee's is a handy convenience store with affordable coffee. There are three Starbucks locations on campus, if that's your thing. Einstein Bros., Subway, Ohio Burger, and Auntie Anne's are all good chains on campus. Campus food is pretty good, though I don't eat in the dining halls a lot.
Dorm Life I expect it's about on par with most colleges, but I don't live in a dorm. There are some different options (singles, apartment-style) depending on your year and things, so I would check it out.
Academic Rigor None of my courses have been too stressful, but I try to put a lot into them. As with most things, it depends on the professor. Most of my professors have been great, and I've learned a lot in many courses.
Tips for prospective students Take initiative: apply for scholarships, research your department, ask questions. You can get a lot of scholarships if you try. Don't let your advisor shuffle you down the beaten path if you don't want to go â?? you may have to be pushy about what you want, so be honest.
In three sentences The University of Akron has a beautiful campus and a lot to offer, but you get what you give. Sometimes it feels like the university is moving slowly in a fast-changing world. The professors, however, are great and usually very helpful.

Greek Life Akron offers many different types of sororities and fraternities. I personally don't hold a lot of knowledge on the Greek Life but I heard a lot of people love joining. There is bound to be a group at Akron that fits almost any time of person and personality.
Clubs and Activities Akron offers a lot of clubs and intramural teams. The recreational center also has a lot of great workout classes that include yoga, zumba, spinning, bootcamp, abs etc.
Great for these types of students Akron is great for people who love the city or country. The campus is very laid back but it's everything in need is nearby. The University is also great for people who enjoy meeting a lot of new people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Spring fest is a big thing that takes place during one of the last weeks of the spring semester. Akron usually holds a concert and offers a lot of giveaways. It really brings the students together to have a good time before finals.
Bang for the buck I personally enjoy Akron because it's a fairly big University but not too overwhelming. The walks to class are not terrible and the campus is absolutely beautiful. The professors are also very understanding and many try their best to work with any dilemmas that may come about in a student's life.
What to do for fun Akron is in the city and almost everything is nearby. The college offers a ton of club and intramural sports and has a great recreational facility. The campus also has many organizations that students can get involved in ranging from sororities/frats to organizations with in one's program.
Food and Dining Akron offers many different dining plans. A student can use swipes or have a budget every week. They have plenty of places and restaurants to eat at that accept the zip card dining plans.
Dorm Life Akron offers many different options for housing. If you don't like the dorm life they have plenty of off campus housing and apartments that range with any budget. Overall, most of the dorms are new and very nice with great security protection.
Academic Rigor Akron offers many interesting classes and a lot of great programs. However, some of the general ed classes are fairly large.Overall, I believe Akron is a great school and enjoyable atmosphere that allows students to pursue their future.
Tips for prospective students It's a fairly big size college that's in the city. Some classes are very large and requires students to be independent and organized. It's almost essential for students to attend class in order to get good grades.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety at many Universities are actually better than expected. Although you are independent there are police patrolling on campus and near off campus to ensure the safety of fellow students attending the college. My campus for an example has phones spread throughout the campus in case of emergency. This is nice because you may not always have your phone on your and if you have night classes it can come in handy. Any student can sign up for text or alerts through email to inform if there has been a kidnapping or a robbery or a shooting or whatever the case may be within minus of it happening so you know what is going on at all times. Many Universities do come on campus and patrol there to in case of anything. So all in all it is very safe place to be, no worries but you should always take precautions and watch yourself in any situation.
Clubs and Activities There are many activities and clubs for everyone to be apart of. I encourage every student to be apart of a club. I never realized how many different clubs and activities the University of Akron holds. The neat thing about the clubs and activities that a college hold is that the students are the leaders of it. They are responsible for what goes on. If there was a club that you wanted to be part of you could do that, you can be the leader of your own club. With the helps of other students you could create something great. I myself is in a few clubs which i am happy to be in because it taught me to be more responsible and to communicate with others and meet new people with the same interest.
Great for these types of students If you do not want to join the army and not in JROTC but love to shoot there are many schools that have division one rifle teams. There is much to do. You get to go to different states to shoot and compete with nationally ranked shooters. If you do not like the competitiveness to it, you there is also rifle clubs in many Universities that have clubs you can shoot with. They can go to matches as well and have fun and practice without being part of the JROTC or the army.
What to do for fun There is a variety of things to do at your college which are fun and relaxing. At a University there is a recreational area for one to go to which has much to do. Where I attend there is all sports games you can play, a workout area and a swimming pool to relax in. There is a variety for all to go and have fun. Each University is different but such things include theaters to watch movies or bowling alleys and areas to play pool to. All of these activities are offered to many Universities and are free, just need your ID. Off campus you can go to the movies, have a get together, or go to restaurants or malls near the campus.
Food and Dining The Dining plan was something i found to be very convient and helpful. This was a wonderful thing because I could just go and pick something up from one of the stores around campus when I didn't have time between classes. The meal plan was not very expensive considering how much food you were able to get and the convenience of it. Another great thing about the meal plan is that it is a great way to hang out and enjoy a great meal. Or you can even meet new people there. The food is always fresh and they have a variety of different meals that are loved by many
Dorm Life The dorm life was a wonderful experience for me. It was the best decision I made for many reasons. When you are in a dorm you find others who are in the same boat as you are in. You meet so many people this way. Another thing i found to be nice about the dorm life was that this was a good time to find people in my major and seek help. There was a nice study area for all of us to work at quietly with comfortable furniture.
Academic Rigor Being involved helps you better yourself in many different areas of communication, responsibility and a learning experience beyond what is easy. This can be anything weather it is pushing yourself in a club, sport or a class or an activity, dieting. This is when you are your best or can make yourself better and accomplish more with hard work and dedication. We push ourselves beyond our individual limits in order to get better at something. I learned that being involved makes me feel happy and accomplished. It helps me meet new people and get the experience i will need for everyday life.
Tips for prospective students Some tips for prospective students would be to go into the major you love and want to be in. You need to find a major you desire and stick with it. Another tip is to study hard and stay on top of things but to also enjoy yourself. Have fun, this is a wonderful experience to travel and do different things. To find yourself and get out. The last tip is to be involved and organized. By doing this, you will learn who to seek out for help and who to get it from. Being independent and working hard will get you far.
In three sentences The University of Akron has provided me with many wonderful opportunities and a welcoming place to attend. The University has much to offer me because of their different programs and with the abundance amount of people wanting to help me. Although at times it may be a struggle to be a college student i would never go anywhere else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus itself is very safe. Be careful when exiting campus grounds and be aware of where you are.
Greek Life What happens on campus, stays on campus. :P
Clubs and Activities The university pumps so much money into events and activities, there is always something to do.
Great for these types of students The University of Akron is most well-known for its Engineering program. For you engineers out there, this university is superior.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus What happens on campus, stays on campus. :P
Bang for the buck The University of Akron is a great and exciting experience and is worth every dollar you spend. The average tuition rate is about $10,000 per academic year. I HIGHLY recommend living on campus. It is most definitely worth the extra cost of about $7000 per year; you will experience so much more while living on campus.
What to do for fun There are so many events and activities that go on on-campus, you will almost never have nothing to do. I highly suggest getting involved in everything you can, especially greek-life.
Food and Dining Freshmen dining plans are a bit limited, but are mandatory. You have a choice between 19 meals per week, 12 meals per week, and unlimited. The 19 and 12 plans include Robs all you can eat Cafe and Trackside Grill. The unlimited plan only includes Robs. I will tell you right now that you will get sick of eating Robs day after day, but that could just be me.
Dorm Life I would definitely recommend South or Spicer Hall. They are a bit farther away from central campus, but the rooms and living conditions are just so much nicer.
Academic Rigor You will need to work hard in any college you attend. Studying is a MUST or you WILL fail. The suggested study time is 2 hours for every hour of class. Obviously, that is a little ridiculous for some people, but you should at least try to meet the goal of 2 hours per class hour. The classes and professors will provide you with everything you need to succeed; it is left up to you to use it.
Tips for prospective students The University of Akron itself is a very beautiful and safe campus; however, the city itself can be very dangerous in certain areas. Be aware of where you are.
In three sentences The University of Akron is a fantastic, fun, and safe learning environment for students. The professors and staff here make it their responsibility to guarantee student success. The campus itself is absolutely beautiful.
