Ask questions. Be very interactive with your counselor. Look for financial aid everywhere. Remember there is no scholarship or grant that you should not apply for. Most importantly, breath, take the time to enjoy and embrace this new experience. Try to make it fun.

The number one thing that I would recommend for any prospective students, would be to meet with an academic advisor. They are incredibly helpful when it comes to choosing classes and planning your schedule. They will help you find the most efficient way to complete your degree.

Figure out what you want to do early so that you are not wasting time and money on classes that you will not need for your degree.

Make sure that you review your teachers before signing up for your classes. If possible, you should take online courses after your first semester. Always be kind and courteous to the staff, they are working to further your education.

If you can save up some extra money for hidden fees like parking and don't forget about the cost of books. Parking at UAA will cost you an arm, leg and a few fingers off your left hand. It wouldn't be too big of a deal, but parking is limited and more often than not you pay a lot to not be able to park. So try to shuttle to class or get there early for parking. Actually, on the subject of books it's better to rent online or buy used. If I could do it all again I'd avoid buying for full price. Finally, if anything get as far ahead on your work as you can, because the weather is unpredictable and the last thing you need is to be digging your car out of the ditch when you need to finish something at the last possible minute.
