Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI isn't really a party school, so if you are expecting that type of environment, it probably isn't for you. The quiet atmosphere works great for students who are really serious about their academics. Also, if you like being around tons of Asians, this is the school for you! :)
Tips for prospective students Come on a campus tour before committing to anything, of course, but apart from that I would recommend driving around Irvine before deciding. A lot of my friends complain that there isn't too much to do in Irvine and they didn't really think about it before they sent in their SIR. I don't mind, but since some people do, I think it is really beneficial to check out the surrounding area first.
Bang for the buck I received the Regent's Scholarship which really helps my parents out with tuition. There are plenty of other scholarships out there! But even without these scholarships, I feel like the quality of my education is well worth the money.
Am enjoying being here A big part of my college experience has been the people that I meet. UCI has so many clubs to offer that it is easy to find people that you have things in common with. Besides from that, the RA's and CA's do a good job of trying to make everyone feel welcome.
Am learning a lot The professors at UC Irvine really care about you. Although the lectures are quite large, professors always take plenty of their time for office hours and you can even schedule appointments with them if those hours don't fit your schedule. The class readings are relevant and although they are often long, you learn so much from each one!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for a student looking for a top-notch education. Yes, you can still have fun but it's also good to be studious. There are a lot of Bio Sci Majors at UCI and there are a lot of Engineering Majors, but that doesn't mean the English or Drama Major cannot get his/her moneys worth at this school. It is a very well-rounded school that not many people know about so take the time to research it. Our sports teams are excellent with some of the top in the nation, yet no one seems to know these things.
Tips for prospective students My number one tip is to work hard in high school and to keep that up all the way through until high school is over. There is never a time for slacking off or letting yourself get behind. Working hard will prepare you for college. I had a difficult time with this for a while in my first year of college, but I had to remind myself to stay on task and really stay focused. In a college like UCI, there are so many students that it's a good idea to always try to be ahead because once you fall behind you stay behind. There are so many students working hard that you cannot let yourself down. I also suggest looking into colleges by doing a college search and seeing what your top choices are. Are you looking for a place that is bursting at the seems with stuff to do and is not focused on academics? Or are you looking for a place that is safe and maybe close to the beach? Those things are important to take into account because you not only want to take into account the academia of your school but also the extracurricular stuff and the location of the college! For me, UCI is located in a great area and I love that about it. The beach is so close, and that helps me when I need to clear my mind and get through a rough day.
Bang for the buck I think school in general is expensive, but living in an area that is serene, safe, and close to the beach, I definitely think it has its bang for its buck. After visiting other campuses, I realize how much UCI has to offer its students! I love how convenient everything is and that there is not too much traffic. Sure, it may be a little pricey at times but in this economy, what isn't?! It's college in general that is difficult to pay for, so out of all of the the UCs I definitely like UCI!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy going to school here even though I have to admit my first year was a difficult one. I felt I didn't know how to get myself into that large crown of over 20,000 students! I was worried at first that no matter what I did, there was no way to be noticed and no way of finding my own place. After some searching, I found my niche in two places: the Cross Cultural Center and the Public Health Association. I am determined now more than ever that I will be able to find more places that will make UCI my home. I enjoy it more now than I did before because I know now that I am not alone in trying to find my footing. The park, which I mentioned before, called Aldrich Park is located in the heart of UCI and without it, I would not have had some of the best conversations with other students and friends! It is so beautiful and relaxing. I also enjoy the fact that there are so many different places to eat and the Student Center is always bustling with people! You don't have to be bored because you can even meet up with friends and form study groups at one of our three amazing libraries. Even on the weekends there are things to do like drive 8 minutes to the beach and hang out, or go to Newport and have a nice dinner. There is even clubbing in Costa Mesa! Everything is fairly convenient. Also, there is a University Town Center that has a Trader Joe's, Yogurtland, Cha, and Golden Spoon! There are a ton of places to eat and hang out.
Am learning a lot Being that I have only been at UCI for one year so far, I feel that I am really learning a lot from my professors and from the students that I have surrounded myself with. No matter where you are at, it is the people you are around that you can learn from. UCI has a lot to offer when it comes to academia. There are numerous Nobel Prize winners, each having a building on campus named after them. Upon arriving at UCI, I took a campus tour and during this tour I knew that I was going to be learning something new every day from the students and from the faculty. For example, did you know that there are 1100+ trees planted in the center of our school (Aldrich Park)? I had no idea! Taking the time out of the day to notice things of beauty like the structure of our campus has made me realize how thankful I am to be learning something new every day. I never walk out of a class empty-handed and wishing I had actually learned something. Instead, I always look forward to the next day of classes, even if it becomes a struggle to wake up in the morning. UCI has so much to offer in the broad scope of learning that I cannot name everything, but everyone should get the opportunity to see for themselves. Check out a classroom and talk to a professor during office hours. Those are the times that you learn the most anyways! One-on-one conversations have opened my eyes to a real college experience of never-ending lessons and learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who don't do much on the weekends or who aren't looking to party, students who want to challenge themselves academically (but not TOO much), students who like working out (we have an amazing gym), students who are independent, students who love the beach (we are minutes from it), students who love shopping (lots of high-end malls near buy), and students with a car (you will need one if you plan to have any fun on campus), Asian (they make up a majority)
Tips for prospective students The strong points of this school are the weather, location, and layout of the campus. However, the people here can be quite snobby (it is in the middle of the O.C) and the classes aren't as challenging as I expected. The campus itself is great, and the faculty and staff are INCREDIBLY knowledgeable! My advice is to come to the campus and take a tour, and really evaluate whether you would fit in with a crowd of rich kids who are not always out to get an education.
Am enjoying being here The students here can be hard to get along with at times, but if you are independent and can make friends with just about anyone from any walk of life, then you should be fine. One of the sad things about Irvine is the lack of school spirit. It is essentially non-existent, and that is not an exaggeration.
Am learning a lot I was expecting to be challenged academically, but instead I found that classes here were not as hard as expected. The classes are easy to get through, but are very interesting.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Aspiring Medical Students (large, competitive school of medicine, majority of bio classes relate to medicine, proximity to Medical Center) Art History Students (small class of Art History; staff is composed of highly-successful, respected professors)
Tips for prospective students UC Irvine is quickly becoming one of the most competitive of the UC campuses because it can afford to be; with a new, state of the art Medical Center, a prestigious nursing program, and world-class facilities, UC Irvine offers only the best for its students. Prospective students should not expect UC Irvine to be a back-up school; competitive grades, volunteering, and extracurricular activities are a must.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Work-hard play-hard types. It is stereotypically Asian dominated, so if you have a problem with Asians, probably not a good choice. Plenty of options when it comes to clubs and other on-campus activities. As with every other college, you get what you put in. If you don't put yourself out there, don't get involved, and don't go to class, you're going to be an unhappy student with bad grades- simple as that.
Tips for prospective students Take as many AP classes as you can and take the AP tests, you'll get credit for them and registration windows are based on credit amount- so every little bit counts! Start looking at GE classes because many of them will cover more then one category.
Bang for the buck Not happy about the 10% increase in tuition and there's talk of raising it even more. All in all, it's still worth the money as opposed to many private schools and state schools.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus, easy to walk to all your classes and not too hard to find your way around. Weather's not too shabby here either, close to Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Plenty of shopping centers around like Spectrum, Fashion Island, and South Coast Plaza. Not as lively as UCLA (of course) and we don't have a Frat Row, but there's a perfect variety of things to do without tempting you to forget about school.
Am learning a lot An abundance of classes with top quality teachers. I haven't had a class that was taught by a horrible teacher or was completely useless. As with every university, don't slack off, stay on top of your game and try to figure out what you want to do so you don't waste your time on classes that don't help you reach that goal!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student who loves the mild weather, wants classes to be close together, loves a beautiful campus, wants a quality education and good professors, loves to go to events and enjoys the socal area. Really good for pre med students too, since UCI has a competitive medical school and great guidance from counselors
Tips for prospective students Its a great school, but parking is expensive! If you don't need a car, I recommend you leave it at home. There are plenty of shuttles and alternative modes of transportation you can take that will save you a ton of money; parking permits are hundreds of dollars every quarter and UCI parking lots are always congested, making that permit worth even less since you might not even be able to find a spot!
Bang for the buck Attending college is expensive, especially with increasing tuition, but the quality of education to recieve at UCI is quite good. The amount of opportunities to join clubs or organizations is plentiful, and there are always fun events going on. There is a vast amount of resources available to all students, that will help in researching, tutoring, building resumes, searching for internships, ect. The community at UCI is also quite open, and you're bound to get to know quite a lot of people. The campus is beautiful, and compact so that its easy to walk to all of your classes; plus you can't beat the mild socal weather!
Am enjoying being here UCI is filled with diverse groups of people, anyone can get along with anyone here, and the numerous clubs and organizations are open and friendly. The clubs and communities in UCI make the time here a much more enjoyable and enriching experience. The dorms are fun, and the food is great! Plus theres plenty of popular places to eat and shop and enjoy inside and outside of the campus.
Am learning a lot I have learned so much since I've been here; the classes are quite challenging but the things you learn can also be very interesting and fun! A majority of the professors here are friendly and they care about you; they are always willing to help and they are also good lecturers, which is super important for a class since the majority of things you learn come from lectures. Some professors may not be as good at teaching the material, but they are few and the minority. Plus if you need extra help, theres always two huge libraries, free tutors, as well as a great tutoring program called LARC; students can do really well with all these resources.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want a great education, and don't need to party every other day of the week.
Tips for prospective students Go to the Student Parent Orientation Program, and get involved quickly. Many opportunities are available to those who start pursuing their goals quickly when they arrive on campus!
Bang for the buck With tuition and other fees rising, it has become increasingly difficult to pay for an education at UC Irvine, however the quality of the education from a University of California school is unrivaled for its price.
Am enjoying being here The campus is extremely wonderful. From the weather to the people, the best way to describe UC Irvine is humbly pleasant. Ring Road is a great place to see friends or make new ones. Additionally naps in Aldrich park cannot be topped.
Am learning a lot The lower-division classes offered at UC Irvine are fairly challenging and give a broad view of topics important for the education of successful college students. The best part of these classes are the professors, as many of them are devoted to their work and research and are passionate about sharing it with undergraduates.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who wish to major in Biological Sciences
Tips for prospective students Study hard in high school and try to get at least a 3.7 GPA. Participate in as many extracurricular activities as you can. Try and score at least an 1850 in your SATs.
Bang for the buck The cost of the tuition is definitely worth it. The campus is safe and it's a nice place to live in, they have an amazing education system so I definitely feel it's worth the expense.
Am enjoying being here I love UC Irvine because it is located in a great city. Irvine itself is a quite place, but it's near other cities that hold lots of fun and exciting things to do. For example, Irvine is approximately 20 minutes away from Disneyland, so if you're ever looking for something to do during the weekends, you and your friends can drive to the happiest place on earth. You can have the best of both worlds when you're living in Irvine: the crazy chaotic city life and the quite suburban life.
Am learning a lot I have just finished my first quarter as a freshman, out of the four professors that I had during fall quarter, one strongly conveyed the love he had for the subject he was teaching. The other three professors lacked passion and enthusiasm, which was quite disappointing. I'm hoping that I will have more professors like my Calculus professor, whose love for math practically oozed out of the words that would come out of his mouth during his lectures.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI is great for outgoing students or students who are looking to get involved in things like Greek Life, ASUCI, our volunteering. Because of Irvine's proximity to the corporate headquarters of many companies, students looking to network and find good job opportunities are close to the source.
Tips for prospective students Look into the department and get acquainted with professors right away. Start freshman year when you are in the larger classes so they remember you in the upper divisions - it's all about those letters of rec!
Bang for the buck I would say yes, you will definitely get your money's worth. There's a lot to do and a lot of things are included with fees. The ARC (our campus gym) is great and included. Study rooms, rooms for meetings on campus, concerts like Shocktoberfest and Reggaefest are also free!
Am enjoying being here I love the campus. There is a huge park right in the middle which is great for breaks between classes. There are a lot of study places on campus and so it never gets too loud. People are friendly and there is a lot to be involved with including Greek Life, volunteer opportunities, clubs, etc.
Am learning a lot There are some inspirational professors and TAs here who go above and beyond the class material to help students learn about life. College prepares us for the real world and not only am I learning material relevant to that, but I am also learning how to apply it later on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Well, if you like open, suburbian areas, then UCI is for you. At the center of campus is a huge park, very green, trees everywhere, which is imo a waste of space, but that's just my personal opinion. The area isn't too lively, Irvine is a little boring in my opinion, but it's just typical suburbia. Just from observing people around campus, they all seem to keep to themselves and aren't the most social in the world. But there are thousands of people, you'll always be able to find someone with a common interest.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and get an unofficial tour if you can, just by one of your friends. Ask around to really get a feel of what it's like. If at all possible, I highly recommend to live in a dorm. It's much easier to meet people and it's a lot more social. Make sure to get involved and join lots of clubs. And don't forget to be on top of your studying :)
Bang for the buck Not much to say here, all UC's have the same tuition, so it's relatively the same.
Am enjoying being here Again, it is what you make of it. Being a commuter myself, it makes it a bit more difficult to meet people, but if you put yourself out there and try to meet people, they are generally receptive and you'll find some friends. To be honest though, I don't love UCI and i applied to transfer to UCLA. Not to say that there's anything wrong with UCI, but it just doesn't feel like I belong here all that much. Also, I like the UCLA campus and surrounding area a lot more and the people seem more social and lively. A lot of people will love it here, just visit and know what you're getting yourself into.
Am learning a lot UCI has great resources, but only if you use them. My first quarter, I went through only focused on my GPA and when my grades weren't what I expected, I made it my goal to actually learn for the sake of learning and try to better myself as a person. Since then, it's been great. The teachers are there to help you, but only if you ask them. It really is what you make of it. But then again, there will always be teachers that are jerks. I had one professor who cared a lot about his students and another who honestly could care less. Just remember that there is a huge diversity in professors, but always read their reviews on www.ratemyprofessors.com to get an idea of what they'll be like.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's Irvine! The campus has its own Police and they mainly shut down parties after 10 minutes and give tickets to people riding their bikes where they are prohibited. Irvine is very safe!
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and organizations that it is hard to choose from! There is definitely a place for everyone.
Great for these types of students Students who like to study on the weekends or are not into partying.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Boba is always sold on Ring Road for $2.
What to do for fun Most people go to the beach or head over to Newport for fun on the weekends since most places on campus are closed. As a Freshman in a dorm, your RA will always have activities set up. Some people like to try and catch the bunnies that are on campus or just lie in the park.
Food and Dining The Dining Commons (Pippin & Mesa Commons) are constantly busy with mostly Freshman and some upperclassman. It is good the first year, but then you realize you got The Freshman 15. Once you get into apartments, you rely on the fast food places nearby and ramen. BC Cavern and Phoenix Grill have amazing burritos!
Dorm Life Most of my friends were dorm-mates and our hall continues to keep in contact. If you are interested in something, such as research, join the hall that is research-oriented. It is very easy to make friends who are in the same major and have the same interests.
Academic Rigor As a Biology major, Irvine requires that you take more Biology and Chemistry classes than all of the other UCs!
Tips for prospective students Utilize the resources available on campus such as Department Peer Tutors, LARC, and the libraries!
In three sentences UCI is a very quiet school in terms of partying, but there are always activities going on throughout the day that any student can participate in. The school is fantastic in Academics and has many research opportunities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UC Irvine is a very safe campus. The UCI Police Department is on duty 24/7, with both emergency and non-emergency branches available at all hours. There are also emergency blue light booths installed frequently around the campus, so that if a student ever feels unsafe, he or she can push the blue light button and a UCIPD officer will escort him or her home. Irvine is also one of the safest cities in the country, and I have never felt unsafe on UCI's campus.
Greek Life Greek life is very popular on UCI's campus, with roughly 11% of the student population involved in a sorority or fraternity. For more information please visit http://www.greeklife.uci.edu/ .
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of clubs, organizations, and involvement opportunities on campus in areas such as, volunteering, sciences, writing, Greek life, dance crews, dance ensembles, singing groups, theater groups, sports teams, film clubs and many more. There is a student group for every field of interest, and if there isn't one for you, you can start one!
Great for these types of students UCI is great for students who are very focused on their degrees, serious about succeeding in their fields, and who want to reap the benefits of attending a public university with a private university feel in Southern California.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The only traditions I can think of at the moment are Wazygoose and Reggaefest. Both are free festivals on campus for UCI students held in Aldrich Park. Wayzgoose, also known as Celebrate UCI, is a festival for all things UC Irvine, and Reggaefest is a Reggae music festival for the UCI community. For more information visit these pages! http://www.wayzgoose.uci.edu/wayzgoose/index.php , and http://www.asuci.uci.edu/reggaefest/ .
Bang for the buck Unfortunately the UC system and the state of California are very in debt. While I feel like I have earned a great education at UCI, I absolutely do not feel as though my education will be worth the almost $30,000 of debt I have incurred over my last three years.
What to do for fun UC Irvine always has something to do! From attending sports games, to theatrical productions, joining Greek life to joining a dance crew, dance performances to comedic improvisation shows, and free movie screenings on campus to concerts at the Bren, UCI has a thriving social life. With Newport Beach and the Disneyland Resort just short drives away, students at UC Irvine are always having fun.
Food and Dining UC Irvine has a lot of food options! It is also a great campus for healthy eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. Aside from the UCI dining choices, there are also many chain restaurants on campus, including but not limited to: Starbucks, Wahoo's Fish Tacos, Quiznos, Subway, Einstein's Bagels, Panda Express, Organic Greens To Go, and Jamba Juice. There are also many restaurants and eateries across the street in the University Town Center.
Dorm Life Dorm life is tricky, because it really depends on your Resident Advisor, hall mates, and room mate(s). Try to pick a dorm that is close to where your classes will be held, and just hope for the best when it comes to your roommate. Choose Middle Earth housing if you will be in the sciences, and Mesa housing if you will be in the arts or humanities.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine is a competitive campus, so depending on your major and level of interest in the course subject, classes may be very challenging. Find study partners in your classes and compare notes so you aren't left to study alone all quarter!
Tips for prospective students Get he smallest meal plan! Dorm food is made to be produced cheaply and in mass amounts, so it's usually unhealthy. Have a meal plan but also make sure to supplement with vitamins, fruits, veggies, and lean proteins! Also, never buy books at the bookstore. Wait until your professor tells you which books you need, then buy from Amazon. Big money saver!!
In three sentences The University of California, Irvine is a beautiful campus with a degree program for any field of study. A safe, inspired, and progressive institution, UC Irvine is consistently moving up in the ranks to become one of the UC system's most selective universities. Come visit UCI and see why it's students are proud to be Anteaters! Zot zot!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's blue emergency buttons everywhere, and Irvine is one of the safest cities ever
Great for these types of students Laid-back, but still motivated
What to do for fun Newport beach is just a short drive away. Great food at Diamond Jamboree. A lot of malls. Ride the giant orange balloon for free!
Food and Dining The dorm food isn't the best, but compared to other school food, it's pretty good. A lot of options, and the occasional theme night is sure to please.
Dorm Life Dorm life is what you make of it, but if you come in with an open mind, you're sure to have tons of fun. The RA's are all very fun and spirited and they're there whenever you need them. Since you only live with about 65-80 people, compared to hundreds at other schools, you get to know everyone. You have another family.
Academic Rigor Workload isn't too bad, but professors emphasize strong academic skills.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year, and form good relationships with your hallmates and RA. Go to class.
In three sentences UCI is a relaxing, yet academically rigorous university. Almost everyone you meet seems happy to be here. There are thousands of opportunities for students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are so many places nearby to hang out and have fun. There's the University Town Center (UTC); there are theaters. There's a Boomers! nearby, and there's also the Irvine Spectrum (mall with outdoor ice skating rink).
Food and Dining The food is pretty good. It's just normal dorm food, I guess. Tastes yummy either way!
Dorm Life From what I've experienced so far, it is quite amazing! It is a lot of fun, and a lot of connecting with others. You get to meet lots of new people, and make lots of new friends!
Academic Rigor The classes seem alright. They don't seem too hard, except for the Chemistry class.
Tips for prospective students If you like a friendly atmosphere, this is definitely the place! People here are nice, friendly, fun, and confident. Everyone is willing to help and have a good time with you.
In three sentences UCI has amazingly friendly people on campus. Everything is extremely convient. There are food places, markets, theaters, froyo, and plenty of other fun hang out places for everybody.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This college is great for those that are interested in research because this college is specifically aimed toward research and all the professors are part of a research project.
Tips for prospective students Check out the area see if it is a place for you. When you go to college, get involved, met new people, and drive around Irvine. HOWEVER, do not forget your classes! Because 10 weeks go by Quick! So don't procrastinate :] Networking is just as important as academic learning,
Bang for the buck Personally, I do not receive any Aid of whatsoever. My parents pay for thing from Housing and tuition to books and food.
Am enjoying being here Beside the fact that UCI is very far away from home, UCI has a very nice environment. Everyone is very friendly and kind and everyone helps each other. It is always sunny and warm. Also there are various places that you can find a quiet place to study. :D
Am learning a lot In UCI, I really learned a lot because there are a lot of opportunity to help you fully understand your courses. There are, of course, your professors who are really nice and if you do not understand you can always go to their office hours and ask for help. There are also TA which are like your second teacher and if you do not understand your professors(because of accents or way of explaining), you can go to your TA and ask them for help. However, if you can not ask your TA you can always go to the Free tutoring sessions. Besides academics, you also learn a lot about socializing and networking. Also you learn that you must put yourself out there to figure out answers to questions and to find opportunities.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI is a University for people who work hard. There are parties too of course but classes can be hard and students need to be willing to sometimes work a lot. There are a lot of clubs so there is a place for everyone. It is also a great place for bio majors, but I also find that their School of Humanities is pretty good.
Tips for prospective students Go visit the campus before hand to see if you like the way it is during the academic year, it is not the same to visit it during the summer and during fall! Also a lot of my friends took summer courses before coming and they really enjoyed it, made a lot of friends and had advantage towards the other freshman.
Bang for the buck Well with the 32% increase it is getting a little expensive for a public University but it is a really good research University with enough mediums to help you learn what you are interested in and the quality is worth the money. Also they have a lot of Scholarships to apply for and not only GPA based so it can be a great relief for people who cannot afford College. I know people going to UCI that only pay $2000 all include per quarter. Although it is really expensive for out-of-state students and I would not recommend it for them.
Am enjoying being here I really am enjoying the University. It is wonderfully located: near the beach, LA and San Diego, it has a great weather the whole year, you meat a lot of new people -students, Ra's, professors- and has a great campus around a park so I really like it. Also they have a lot of clubs and extracurricular activities. It is definitely a really social University!
Am learning a lot I spent my years of high school studying at a French one and Coming to UCI was a big change specially because I had never taken an English class but UCI helps you find the right class for your level. With the GE's they help the students explore other areas besides your major so they are sure that in the end of the 4 years they do what they really like and are able to defend themselves in other fields just in case. UCI has great counselors if you are lost, great professors that care about their students, a great variety of classes and a really good system to help students in the case they have difficulties.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great for the type that want to live close enough to home to go home every weekend or so, and those that appreciate a quiet campus on the weekends.
Tips for prospective students Do well in high school and whatever happens, do NOT GET ANY GRADES LOWER THAN A C! I have a friend that got accepted to UCI, but had a D in a class in his final semester and they rescinded acceptance just a few weeks before he was supposed to attend orientation. Join a lot of sports and clubs at school, work on your personal statement way beforehand, and you'll be good to go.
Bang for the buck Tuition is a bit expensive but it IS a UC, so that's expected. I don't think the financial aid is that great but hey, it's a bad economy we're having now. Get close to some professors or advisors and they might be able to send you some scholarship opportunities.
Am enjoying being here The people here are nice, albeit a bit distant so it's hard to make friends unless you dorm here. UCI is more of a commuter school because there are a lot of people living near the campus, so they either go home for the weekend or commute. I highly recommend that you join a club or organization since it would be the best way to make friends if you don't dorm here. Also, you meet a lot of great people at SPOP, which is the orientation, so remember to keep in touch with those people!
Am learning a lot The lectures here are pretty good, and I highly recommend attending them. Although some professors post their Powerpoint presentations or notes online, I recommend that you use them only to review or if you miss a class. The professors tend to go into more detail about what's on their slides in class that you would miss from the slides. They also have office hours, along with the TA's, so it's pretty easy to find someone to help you with a problem at a good time. If not, you could always schedule an appointment or email them.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is more studious than party. So you have to be serious here, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on your own. This school is not mostly for Asians, yes there are plenty of them, but anyone has the same opportunity to apply here. UCI is well known for its biology classes. It is a very competitive school in the Biology major, so best if you are trying to apply for medical school, and I guess you can say in the Engineering also, but anybody is welcomed to apply if there major is found in the school. The weather is more of a beach type weather, since it is near the beach, usually windy, but its still beautiful. I personally did it for the distance, and so if you want to live close to home and you live near Irvine, this can also be an option. Basically, the people are friendly, peaceful (not all), and overall it becomes a pleasure to be living and being a part of the campus of UC Irvine.
Tips for prospective students Mainly my tips are: get a tour of UCI and visit their website to see if you like the school, live on campus because you will meet a lot of people and it will be more convenient when you are studying, send paperwork on time for when you are applying for Irvine and financial aid, do a summer programs for Irvine (don’t take classes during the summer, because you won’t really meet people, my best suggestion is to do CAMP, if not, do SPOP), go to Welcome Week, but join a club if you have the time for it (maybe 1 or 2), go to office hours for professors, try to apply for LARC, if you are taking a biology class, you should look for free tutoring in this subject, because there is, check your EEE (for class quizzes, scores, evaluations, surveys and emails from professors), check your Webmail (email from the school or professors), and check your ZotAccount (to know if you owe any money to the school) . Also, I highly recommend you not to miss class, and be early to class, because seats will be taken quickly or you will come into class with classes already started and you sitting on the stairs. Keep a schedule of your day that you can see everyday to know when you have classes, and a planner will help a lot (to remember midterms and finals). Lastly tips for which teachers to take. I have only taken one quarter here at UCI, but these teachers are really good. For Biology 93, you should take O’Dowd and Warrior. For Chemistry 1A you should take Borovik and for Precalculus (Math 1B) you should take Mrs. Famiglietti. If you are still curious on which classes you need to take, you can always check ratemyprofessor.com.
Bang for the buck In my opinion, there are schools that are much more expensive than this school. I think it’s almost about $29,000. Since you’re searching for scholarships, you probably don’t have the money that is needed to get into college. Well I never worked when I was in high school, and I still am not working. My parents did not have the money to pay for my college tuition and they didn’t really have a good income. So practically once I was accepted to Irvine. They ended up paying most of my tuition. They paid like about $24,000. I did apply though, for FASFA and Cal Grants, so it’s a good thing not to forget to do that. The rest of the money is being paid by the scholarships I got. So keep trying because I didn’t get my scholarships until almost the end of my Senior year. So I really do think you will get a bang for your buck if you come to Irvine because it worked out good for me. If you still have trouble, you can always do work study. You’ll practically be working while you’re in school to pay off for your college, and I’m sure by then you’ll have scholarships or even hopefully some of your tuition paid off by the college. If you really want to apply here, it’s worth it. Don’t think it’s going to be cheap at another college. The cheapest it can get is at a community college, but if you worked hard and you are willing to challenge yourself and not let any obstacles get in your way, then you will find the money you need to pay off for UCI.
Am enjoying being here I really am enjoying UCI because it is a very beautiful campus. You either get to live in Middle Earth which is more of a community while Mesa Court is more of an outdoors type of living situation. In my opinion, you should choose to dorm, you will meet a lot of new people with great and interesting personalities. If you’re still not sure where you want to live, get a campus tour or even just go on the Irvine website. Practically you can find anything you want on campus. You can workout at the ARC or Helm’s Deep, go eat with your meal plan (you’ll have a meal plan consisting of 100, 125, and 165 meals about) at Pippins, Mesa Court, or Brandywine, or go to eat at Starbucks, Wendy’s, Panda Express, or even visit the libraries. You won’t really need a car, unless you’re ready to pay for the permit to be parking. What I also enjoy, is that there are several clubs you can be a part of. I have become a part of two medicine clubs, I have done volunteer service, and I have already gotten a leadership position in one of the clubs. You will enjoy many of these things, but don’t worry if you’re not sure which club you want to join, Welcome Week will help you with which club you want to join. You don’t have to rush things, its best to get adjusted to the life of a university, but when you get the chance, you should think of joining a club. I really recommend not to join fraternities or sororities but its up to you on how you want to experience your college life.
Am learning a lot I am glad that I actually joined CSSA CAMP Summer Science Academy, which I highly recommend for those who are of a Chicano/Latino, African-American, Native American, or Pacific Islander and must be majoring in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Information and Computer Sciences, or Applied Ecology under Social Ecology. If this isn’t possible, then at least attend SPOP, which is for everyone. Both of these are in the summer and they will definitely increase your chances of making new friends and getting into the environment of UCI. In the beginning of my year, I saw many lonely people, so it is best to meet friends and feel comfortable before you officially come to UCI. You will also be surprised at how many people there are in classrooms. For my Biology Lecture class, I practically had more than 400 students, so don’t really expect to get personal attention from your professor, unless you meet with them during office hours. So if you’re having trouble with your classes, you can stop by and ask for assistance. They are always willing to help out a student since mostly no one goes to there office hours. This gives the students that do go, a better opportunity to learn. It is also best to take LARC, which is a tutoring program, and only free if you are eligible for the waiver. I took Chemistry tutoring and it really affected my performance in the class. You should consider tutoring, even if you took AP or Honor classes in high school, you’re going to see that you are going to need it. The Midterms and Finals are hard, but if you study and work harder than you had in high school, I assure you that you will do great at UCI.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Reserved, more conservative, and Asian because there are a lot of these. Ones who want to work hard and study but not be too challenged to the point of insanity.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend students to get involved like joining a club, sports team, dance team, sorority, or fraternity because without that, there's not much to do. The dorms are a great way to make friends but it's often hard to find a place to go out on the weekends.
Bang for the buck It is a great school and a beautiful campus. The weather is beautiful because it is Southern California. The beach is very nice and the surroundings are nothing to complain about. The classes and level of education are great and they offer a lot of classes and majors for all people.
Am enjoying being here For the most part, I enjoy the school and especially the friends I have made, but it isn't completely what I expected. A lot of people live really close and go home on weekends, making it fairly boring and a little depressing, but it is a good time to get homework done. It's much more of a commuter school than I thought and the atmosphere is a little more conservative and reserved than I would like, but usually I do enjoy it.
Am learning a lot The classes have been very interesting and I have been learning a lot. I took a class last quarter about natural disasters! It was really cool and even more challenging than you would think. I am an undecided major and this school has done a good job at providing me with the tools I can use to help declare a major.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI is great for anyone and everyone. We are a very VERY diverse school with every color, shape and size of a person. Also, there is a variety of interests and you are bound to find at least one person who enjoys the same things you do. All it takes is you and 5 other people to form an official club at UCI. Whether you are quiet and reserved, or loud and outgoing, UCI doesn't discriminate. You are guaranteed to fit in somewhere.
Tips for prospective students Tips for students: 1. Don't hold back. Put yourself out there to meet new people. Join a club or organization. We have over 500 different clubs and sports to get involved with. There is something out there for everybody 2. Study. Like I said earlier, there is a lot of competition here at Irvine, so it is relatively easy to fall behind. Staying on top of things and finding the right study buddies is very important. 3. If you have a car, and can afford to keep it on campus, do it. I can't afford to have a car with me at Irvine, but it would make life quite a lot easier. Irvine is a pretty spread out area, so not everything is walking distance. If you can't afford it either, that is still fine. Irvine has a great bus system shuttling all day. However, a car would still be more convenient. 4. Be responsible. College life can be quite hectic, especially with incoming freshman. So get your priorities straight, and don't let the freedom of college get the best of you. I've seen many kids lose their motivation that they had in High School just because they didn't have their parents breathing down their necks anymore. Just make good decisions.
Bang for the buck With these latest tuition increases, yes, the University of California is quite expensive. However, you are going to find those price increases almost anywhere you go nowadays. So I think everyone should apply and not make money the deciding factor. The UCI financial aid office is very helpful and always willing to make appointments and go over your account. I made many visits there my first quarter to go over some last minute loan adjustments. They are also very sympathetic and show you great places to apply for scholarships. Yes, still after all of that, school is still expensive and sometimes thinking about the payments is stressful, but I firmly believe that it will be worth it. The saying, you can't put a price on education. is absolutely true. The experience I am having and the knowledge I am receiving is absolutely wonderful. I would never trade it in or change my mind.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love UCI. This was my number one pick for schools, not only because it offered my double major, but also because it has the perfect balance I was looking for. I wanted a school where I could be involved, social, and make a lot of friends. However, I also wanted a school that could challenge me academically. UCI is exactly what I was looking for. I have already made friends that I know will last a lifetime and I feel like I have known them for way longer than just a year. I would also recommend anyone to go Greek and join a Fraternity or Sorority. The Greek community here at UCI is wonderful for meeting new people and joining a sisterhood or brotherhood that will always be there to support you. Greek Life is not all about the social aspect of college. I got my first on campus job through one of the girls in my sorority, and many girls after they graduate get full time jobs through alumni sisters as well. Having a bunch of people there to help when you need it is very comforting. Also, being able to go out on a weekend for a break from the stresses of school is great. UCI is right next to Newport Beach. The beach and pier are very close, and there are also great shopping locations. Everything you need is right by Irvine campus which makes life very convenient. There is always enough housing and there are affordable options that won't make you pay a fortune. Irvine is the perfect place for anyone looking for an overall amazing college experience. I encourage anyone and everyone to apply
Am learning a lot I feel like I am learning more and more everyday. The professors are very well educated and continually challenging their students. They are also all involved in some form of research along with their teaching. So there are numerous opportunities for students to work alongside their professors. I had an English teacher my first quarter that really set me up to be motivated and confident throughout my college career. I felt he truly cared about me doing well and was always available to answer questions. Every professor and teaching assistant has a set time for Office Hours. That is a time when students can come in, ask questions, and simply get to know their professors better. This is especially important since some of the lectures have more than 400 students in them. I am really focused on the classes involved with my major, but also there are GE courses that we have to take in order to get a good overall education. The GE courses offered are very good and comprehensive, but they are also understanding in the fact that the classes cover the basics of the subject. I also enjoy the competition between all of the other students here at UCI. Everyone is trying their hardest and studying the most they can. This mood throughout the campus motivates me to try even harder in my classes in order to come out on top. Students always form study groups or tutoring sessions to help one another out as well. Everyone is out to give advice or exchange textbooks with friends who are taking classes they have already taken. I feel like the main focus at UCI is to get a great comprehensive education and all the students here can agree.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This campus is perfect for students who like a more quiet and relaxed campus, but have the choice to go to the beach, a variety of malls, parks, or nightlife nearby (easier if you have, or know someone with a car though). We have a gorgeous park at the heart of our campus where concerts and other events take place. Basically it is a suburban campus which is perfect for studying and getting good grades, but also for a lot of fun. However, if you want constant activity, lots of people walking around everywhere and at all times of night, this might not be the school for you.
Tips for prospective students Definitely stay in the dorms for your first year. No matter what personality you have, be it shy or really enthusiastic, this is your gateway to meet really great people and some of your best friends. College is what you make it!
Bang for the buck Despite the statewide raise in tuition, the UC system is still worth it. The faculty really cares about the standards of our education and works with the students through these difficult times.
Am enjoying being here This campus wasn't my first choice, but now I wouldn't like being anywhere else. The campus is beautiful, clean, safe, and is full of diverse students. I love the plethora of opportunities for one to become involved on campus and/or meet lifelong friends.
Am learning a lot As a third-year, I've been learning exponentially since freshman year. The faculty at this school not only encourage learning the material for classes, but help you develop research and communication skills along the way.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone interested in research, who wants a large campus, who likes Asians (because there are a lot of them), who likes sunny/nice weather all year around, and loves the beach should consider attending UCI.
Tips for prospective students I'd advise anyone to go to the anteater involvement fair during welcome week. Get involved in on-campus activities. Attend sporting events, and don't be afraid to try new things. We have a fantastic volleyball team, baseball team, and our other teams aren't bad either. You want to enjoy your first year of college, make lots of friends, and get involved. There's research labs on campus that you can apply for if you're interested in research. There are lots of fraternities and sororities you can join, and hundreds of other clubs for all types of interests.
Bang for the buck I'm not going to lie, UCI is expensive because it is a university. But the school is definitely worth the cost. You're getting a university level education, and the opportunities that you will have are worth it. You're surrounded by people who care about their education and after graduation you'll have the advantage over people who went to a state college or a community college. The dorms that you live in during your freshman year are some of the best dorms I've seen. And the gym, called the ARC, is a great place to work out, with top-quality equipment and a newly finished pool. Definitely worth the money paid.
Am enjoying being here The campus is gorgeous, who wouldn't love a park in the middle of campus to nap in while between classes. The people are all friendly, and helpful. The Student/Parent Orientation Program, also known as SPOP is a great way to meet people and make friends before classes start. One of the most common questions during your freshman year is, What SPOP were you? Irvine is completely planned city, and its less than ten minutes from the nearest beach. There are plenty of places to go around Irvine. Los Angeles is close enough to take day trips to, as well as Long Beach, Huntington Beach, and San Diego.
Am learning a lot The classes at UCI are pretty large in size, there were roughly 400 students enrolled in my first lecture class of my freshman year. However UCI does a good job of breaking down those class sizes into smaller discussion classes, which provide a more intimate learning environment. The lectures are run by professors, however the discussions are run by Teacher's Assistants, mostly graduate students who have a degree in the area they are teaching. The Professors and TAs are extremely helpful, most are quick to answer emails, and there are also office hours that you can attend if you have any questions. In addition to that, there are also LARC classes that you can take specific to the classes you are enrolled in. They are run by undergraduate students who have already taken and passed the class. Overall there is plenty of opportunity to learn a lot in your classes and help is also available to anyone who needs it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The school is great for everyone. You just have to find your niche. There's a place for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Try talking to anyone you know who currently goes to UCI. Taking a tour around campus also really helps and gives you an idea if the school is right for you. In addition, for those who accept UCI as their college, try everything. It's a very common tip, trying everything really helps you in finding out what you are truly passionate about.
Bang for the buck I think the tuition and expensive for attending UC Irvine is quite pricey. Where does all the money go? It’s gone to maintenance of the school. You pay for your own textbooks and if you want extra tutoring through their LARC (Learning and Academic Resource Center) program, you pay an extra $100 per quarter, per class. I really wish tuition was cheaper. With the university located in an expensive city, everything is expensive. Although the campus is clean and well-maintained, it is expensive to attend; especially if you do not get financial aid.
Am enjoying being here I don’t particularly love being at this school, but I don’t absolutely hate it either. Coming from northern California, southern California is quite different. Having no car in Irvine is actually a big problem as well since most activities are in inner LA. The city Irvine itself is operated by a big company so many of the groceries and items are more expensive. Yes, there are many clubs to join and you may find ones you like but for many, the clubs may not be for you. It depends on how much you want to be part of something. Some people go for a sorority or frat while others turn to their hallmates and become close to their hallmates. If you want to have fun, you’ll find it, but if you want to study you’ll easily be able to do that too.
Am learning a lot The professors that I encountered as a biological sciences major were pretty helpful in teaching the material. For biology, the material was presented through powerpoints and the instructor would elaborate on the material. Some professors were better than others, seeking to explain the material further while other professors dismissed questions that were asked. Although I studied a lot on my own, the professors provided an outline for my study. Just attending the lectures is really not enough to do well unless you’ve already learned the material before. Some professors place more importance in their lectures by not providing any powerpoint. Once again, it really depends on the professor you choose and how much you are willing to put into your studying. If you find the best combination between studying yourself and attending lectures, then doing well should not be a problem.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never encountered any police except when a girl rode her bike where it was forbidden.. But I did have to walk back from class late at night and it was pretty sketchy.
Greek Life I wanted to join one but I'm entirely too broke. You have to pay to look at their booths. (Being sarcastic, but the way they charge, they might as well).
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs! They are extremely easy to join, don't require you to pay an arm and a leg, and a great break from academics.
Great for these types of students There are a lot of Asians so it's easy for them to fit in. Also people who have a lot of money. And if you basically live in the library, you'll enjoy this.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I personally find it unusual that there isn't more activity on campus.
Bang for the buck It's a beautiful school with a great education system, but for all the loans I have to take out you would think I get carried to class! It's extremely difficult to enroll in classes and now they make some people take classes in summer due to the overcrowding. I don't understand how that makes sense. What exactly am I paying for? I'm a little baffled.
What to do for fun Not a lot, to be honest. There are hardly any activities that I'm aware of. Most people have to travel off-campus to Newport to have parties because things get shut down quickly. But it all depends on who you know. They do have sports and things that your residence holds. Those are fun!
Food and Dining The dining hall is GREAT. They even give you a take out box. There are also tons of eateries on campus! Starbucks, Subway, Wahoo's, and more. Plus, campus is super close to Albertsons.
Dorm Life I gave it a better score than I wanted. I know many people do like it, but my experience was trying. I ended up with a single dorm which is what i wanted. Little did I know i was surrounded by other people with singles who wanted to be secluded. I made close to no friends, but that is another thing in its own.
Academic Rigor The academics are pretty good. I had an excellent chemistry professor who truly cared that the students knew what we were learning and not simply memorizing. Most classes have a decent curve, but don't depend on them.
Tips for prospective students Absolutely visit the campus. Don't simply listen to the guide; look around and realize the environment you are about to be put in. Be as prepared as you can before you go in and definitely get comfortable with the campus.
In three sentences This University is very education-oriented. Obviously a good thing, but it does lack a lot of school spirit. You're either all about school or you have an easier major; not much in between.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safest campus I have ever visited. I don't feel nervous walking alone at night. It tends to be very calm at night, which is soothing, and allows you to get your work done. Many police cars patrol, ensuring the streets are safe.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are hidden tunnels by Mesa Courts, which are fun to explore!
What to do for fun Visit the dollar theatre, take a walk around Aldrich Park, drive to Newport or Laguna beach, hang out in dorm rooms, visit the Arc (gym), play a sport, join Greek Life!
Food and Dining Love the variety in the commons. Food can be cooked for your specific dieting needs - less carbs, sugar, vegans, lactose intolerant, etc. Pizza and deserts are delicious! Large drink selection, not too bad of lines. Great variety of food for every meal, and also very large dining rooms!
Dorm Life Dorm rooms are fairly large, and the houses are nice! If you start talking to people in your houses early on, you will enjoy your stay much more. The staff cleans up the houses very well, and all furniture looks basically new. Common rooms are great for hanging out with people in your hall. If you want to meet people quickly, prop your door open on move in day - it makes people think that you're friendly!
Academic Rigor Professors are very intellectual, having gone through extreme amounts of schooling in order to qualify for a teaching position. They listen to their student's needs, and have frequent office hours where students can go and receive help. Very easy to communicate with professors.
Tips for prospective students At first it might seem boring here, but when you actually look for things to do, you will have a lot of fun. Join a frat or a sorority - the more you get involved, the more you will enjoy your college experience. Keep an open mind - UCI is very diverse, but don't judge people on their appearance or the things they do, because usually they are great people anyways.
In three sentences University of California, Irvine is a very beautiful school. Out of all the colleges I have visited, UCI has the nicest people, and the nicest facilities. It is a very safe city, and my move here was very smooth knowing that.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our own police force on campus and there are light posts with emergency buttons all over campus. We also have workshops about protecting yourself while on campus.
Greek Life They have a lot of activities and events. It is also a great way to meet people.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everyone here on campus and they can work with your schedule.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year Irvine breaks its own record of playing the biggest dodgeball game ever. It gets crazy!!
Bang for the buck Housing is a little expensive if you dorm, but we have other options like town houses or apartments quick are a little more convenient. Parking expenses are also high but we have to options of renting cars, bikes, or riding the zot bus which is free for all students.
What to do for fun There are a lot of things at irvine to do for fun. We have Greek life events, kayaking, zip line in our school and outside of school you can go out and eat, go to the beach, shop at the irvine spectrum and more cool activities.
Food and Dining Three meals a day. Buffet style so there is something for everyone and the dessert is very tasty.
Dorm Life It is super fun and you get to meet lots of new people and learn about their goals. However, it is too expensive for what you get.
Academic Rigor Great teachers, but talk to them during office hours if you have any further questions.
Tips for prospective students To become familiar with what is included in the registration fees so you can take advantage of everything. Don't overpay for housing and meal plans.
In three sentences Excellent location! Beautiful campus! Awesome student service!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Make new friends, join new clubs, take up a sport. As long as you broaden your social circle, you are bound to find something to do, and you will always keep yourself busy. Have fun! College can be stressful so remember to give yourself some time to just let your hair down and go out every once in a while. =)
Food and Dining Budget your money for food expenses. Set aside a stash or account for food so that even if you get carried away spending money, you will always have enough to eat. If it is possible apply for a meal plan as a joint expense with your tuition and board. This way, you never have to worry about saving extra money on the side for food when the school provides you with plenty of meals each day.
Dorm Life When you receive your roommate request form, fill everything out, every single box, every little line, everything. If you fail to be specific about who you want to live with, you just may end up with your nightmare. Bottom line: Imagine the worst case scenario for your roommate and fill out your request form accordingly. =)
Academic Rigor Stay connected to your studies. Though having fun may be a part of the college process, limit yourself to the amount of fun you allow yourself to have. Sure, college life is a mixture of all kinds of interests, but ultimately, the students who work hard and THEN play hard tend to make it all the way to the end.
Tips for prospective students Make sure this school has exactly what you are looking for, and do not be afraid to consider even the smallest details because they may come up much more important later. After all, you want to get the best for your hard work. Make your research count!=)
In three sentences This school has great majors that match what I am looking for in a school. I would love to see the campus as the school looks beautiful from the looks of the pictures on the website. I think UC Irvine fits me pretty snug, considering what I'm looking for in a school, and it may be a definite option for me thanks to its resourceful distance. =)

Categories Comments Campus Safety The City of Irvine is in fact the safest city in the United States, with populations over 100,000. We've been ranked safest city in the U.S. eight times consecutively by the FBI. On top of that, we even have our own private police force right here on campus. I guess it's safe to say we're pretty safe here.
Greek Life Greek Life is Greek Life. You'll find it at almost any university you visit. Here at UCI, we take pride in our fraternities and sororities. All of our Greek houses are located on Greek Row in Arroyo Vista. Might I say that our Greek houses are beautifully renovated and upheld nicely. We have the parties a few times a month, and we try to keep the noise down, but hey, it's college!
Great for these types of students UC Irvine is great for students who want to get away from home, but still want the opportunity to drive home on weekends. We have fun here, work hard, and get ahead in Irvine. Also, our school is becoming more biological-friendly. So for those looking into majoring in Biology or Public Health, this is a great place to be.
What to do for fun There's so much to do in Irvine during off-days and weekends it'll have your head spinning for days. Many UCI students take the weekend off and head to Disneyland, which is remarkably close by the way. The Spectrum, a group of fashion-based stores, eateries, movie theatres, also draws attention during weekends. Not only that, but Newport Beach is extremely close by. Put that sunshine to use, get that tan, or take a swim in our crystal clear water if you have time in between classes or on off-days.
Food and Dining UC Irvine makes living and eating on campus as easy and proactive as possible. Students can use their ID cards to enter any of the eateries on campus, regardless of their living situation. We provide our scholars with the highest in customer satisfaction, by listening and evolving our method of serving students. Therefore, our whole menu for all of our eateries is accessible online, we make reservations for those who are vegetarians and vegans, those who want to eat with family. Guests are also allowed to dine with you, adding your fun and peace of mind. The chefs here at UCI make it their mission to provide students with the best meal and customer service possible. I stand by that statement.
Dorm Life Residential Life is booming at UC Irvine. Our freshman housing communities, Middle Earth and Mesa Court, are no strangers to providing the most comfortable living experiences to our newest Anteaters. With over 60 resident halls combined, and a volley of student staff workers willing to lend a helping hand, new and current students have no problems making friends and having fun. As a current student at UCI and as a student housing advisor, my job is to ease students from living at home to living independently. So far, I've helped hundreds of students transition both academically and socially.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine is a great all around school. At 47 years old (as of writing this), we're a relatively new school. The difficulty of your classes is what you make of it. Remember that you're in school, so regardless of how smart a student is, studying is an important part of coming here. With that said, UC Irvine is a hardworking, engaging, and challenging school, but if you work hard, there's no need to worry. If you do find yourself having trouble though, we have multiple areas for students to ask for help including the SOAR Center, the Writing Center, and LARC.
Tips for prospective students Just remember that your mission is to go to school, get the best GPA possible, make friends, experience new things, meet new people, and enjoy life. This is your best years of your life, make them count. Work Hard. Study Hard. Play Hard.
In three sentences Sunshine, fresh air, and vivid scenery are the epitome of Southern California's UC Irvine. Classified as Orange County's signature school, UC Irvine is home to a multitude of scholars from different locations, unique backgrounds, and whom hold various academic pursuits. Our students are dedicated to challenging their academic boundaries and reaching higher plateaus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There's a lot of thing to do at UC Irvine, albeit you'll often have to seek it out. For those that like to see live entertainment, there's a movie theater that play lots of smaller indie films in the UTC, and a comedy club. The pub on campus often has bands playing in it. Other options include the many performances put on by the arts school and school hosted concerts. Sports fans can watch the basketball, volleyball, soccer, and baseball teams. Games are fun and give a good excuse to wear face paints and yell a bunch. Being 15 minutes for the beach means lots of bon fires and surfing trips. The school is also 15 minutes from Disneyland so season passes aren't necessarily a bad idea. There are many clubs that cater to specific tastes and the ARC has fun dance and cooking classes. The party scene can be difficult in Irvine, but can be easily navigated if you meet the right people and either have a car or know somebody with one. All the on campus housing has community centers that have fun things to do like billiards, ping pong, and swimming pools.
Food and Dining UC Irvine has a lot of choices when it comes to food. There are a variety of locations to grab a bite on campus such as Subway, Wendy's, Jamba Juice, Panda Express, and Wahoo's in addition to many cafeteria style eating places. The food here is just what you'd expect, decent food at a decent price that you don't have to make yourself. The University Town Center (UTC) just across the street from campus provides a large amount of dining options. Several cultural restaurants, snack and sweet shops, and not to mention the ever popular In N Out and Cha for tea (a boba place) give students more than enough options around dinner time. For those that find themselves with the munchies late at night, there aren't too many options, but a Jack N the Box near campus stays open 24/7.
Dorm Life Dorm life is essential. Incoming first years should absolutely participate in dorm life. There are two different first year communities at UC Irvine namely Middle Earth housing and Mesa Court. Middle Earth Housing is situated on campus so that walking to your classes is never a hassle. Those living in Middle Earth have two dining commons within a two minute walk and are closer to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), the school's state of the art gym. The buildings in Middle Earth borrow their names from the places and characters in J. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Some examples include Isengard, The Shire, Whispering Woods, Rohan, Shadowfax and more. Each building houses approximately 80 to 100 students. Rooms are on the moderate to smaller sizes, though better that than dorm rooms for the grand majority of other schools' dorms. Middle Earth has a more urban feel than other parts of the campus. Mesa court, the other first year living area boasts a more open living area that focuses on relaxation and tranquility. Situated just across the street from campus, Mesa Court is never too far from your classes. The location is especially close for Arts students and to the athletic buildings, though Science and Math majors can expect ten minute walks to their classes. The buildings here are named after things found in nature, but in Spanish. Example names are Viento, Cascada, and Estrella. Dorm rooms tend to be much larger than those found in Middle Earth and the buildings are much newer. Residents here have only one dining commons that doesn't require a walk, but that hardly proves a hassle. You have a choice between where you live, Mesa Court is popularly agreed to be the more desirable of the two, but you are free to make your own decisions.
Academic Rigor The first thing you'll probably notice when coming to Irvine is that it doesn't matter how easy high school was for you, there's going to be someone in the room who knows the subject better than you. It's easy to feel really behind or unprepared during the first few weeks, but it gets easier when you start to understand how you'll be tested and how quarters flow. Classes are challenging, but if taken seriously it is generally not too hard to pass. A lot depends on the professor and TAs for the class, because they write the midterms and finals which account for about 95% of the grade. Classes last only 10 weeks, so while things move fast, you'll be moving on before you know it (which is especially comforting when you have to take a programming class that you've been dreading).
Tips for prospective students Get involved! There's no better way to own your college experience than to throw yourself right into the mix of things. Make sure to be outgoing. The first days are all about meeting new people and by meeting new people you open lots of opportunities. Also, think hard about which major you'll be coming in as. It's much easier to stick to one major than to flip flop between several. You'll lose lots of valuable time and end up taking many more classes if you make changes later. And finally you'll have to learn to balance your lives. You'll be up later than you are probably used to. There's almost something to do every night and sleep often goes forgotten. While that is almost avoidable you will need to learn to prioritize school work, extracurricular activities, personal engagements, and partying (yes there are lots of parties at Irvine). But understand that you will eventually need to sleep.
In three sentences For those who want to get involved in the Sciences and Arts, UC Irvine is a worthy choice. There are a multitude of options for interning and working under research for those future scientists, and a comprehensive arts program that allows students to showcase their abilities. The community is oftentimes quiet, but accepting and friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University of California, Irvine is the safest campus I have ever heard of. Irvine is already the safest city in California with the lowest crime rates. The only thing that could possibly hurt you is the squirrels. There are Emergency stations set up all around campus, and if one is every in danger, all they need to do is press the blue button and a police officer will be with you instantaneously. Campus police are available 24/7 and if you are ever in need of an escort whether it be day or three o'clock in the morning they will be at your side. And if you ever get stuck somewhere off campus or are in need of help, you can call campus police and they will pick you up and bring you back to campus. How convenient is that!
Clubs and Activities There are over 500 clubs and organizations on campus. It's extremely difficult to NOT get involved.
Great for these types of students The University of California, Irvine is a great place for any student! There is something for everyone here. You'll fit right in to the Anteater family! ZOT ZOT!
What to do for fun There's never a dull moment at UCI. Clubs are always boothing on ring road selling a variety of international snacks, free concerts or movie screenings happen every week, the Greek life are always out and about giving away free items...the list goes on and on. As far as off campus goes, there's plenty of things to do! There are free shuttle busses that go to Newport Beach, to Fashion Island, to the District Shopping Center; the University Town Center is just across the street.
Food and Dining AMAZING! Cafeteria food is NEVER tasty; however, at UCI, all of the dining commons have exceptional varieties of great tasting foods! The dining commons are open all day long and the menu changes every day. It's like having 5 star dining right in your backyard!
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome, fun, and supportive. There are so many hall activities that bring everyone living in the hall together as a family. Whether it be hall dinners or just watching a movie together in the common room, dorm life is never dull. The rooms are cozy and there's plenty of space. The bathrooms are cleaned everyday. The only downfall is that there is no air conditioning but it really never gets too hot. The best thing about dorm life is that you are never alone. Your dorm mates are always there for you when you need them.
Academic Rigor The University of California, Irvine is the top research university in the US. It is very academically competitive and every student strives to be their best.
Tips for prospective students My best advice to prospective students is to take it one step at a time. There is so much to do at UCI that it can become easy to overwhelm oneself. Remember to stay on task, and to not run before you can walk.
In three sentences The University of California, Irvine is one of the finest research universities in the country. Not only is UCI a phenomenal place to study, to grow as a scholar, and to begin a journey towards one's career, UCI is also family; it is home. UCI's faculty, staff, and students are so spirited and encouraging; once one has visited and experienced this for themselves, they'll never want to leave.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are so many things to do for fun. There is the Irvine Spectrum just about 10 minutes away. There is Boomers, which is another 10 minutes away. There are many group organizations that set up dances.
Food and Dining Most of the time the food is really good. I always like the stuff they have on a regular bases. I just dont like how there are almost no desserts.
Dorm Life I live in the apartments in Camino Del Sol, and i absolutely love it. I have met so many new friends and they are very nice and fun. Everyone I have met or just see around are such nice and friendly people.
Academic Rigor The academics can be pretty tough. The professors are really helpful and most are such great teachers.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Party types. A lot of learning goes on but there is also a ton of night life just waiting fot them.
Tips for prospective students Def. go on campus and take a tour (official/unofficial). Probably not a good school to bring your car to, everything's pretty close. Be sure to check out housing, not many options, but the options are pretty good. Some dorms here are larger than standard college dorms.
Bang for the buck Not sure yet.
Will enjoy being here I personally love the suburban area, the shopping center right across the street, and the mall not too far away. It's near the city, but not in it. LA is not too far away, the beach is 8 minutes away as well. There is so much night life too I hear.
Will learn a lot I hear the professors are great, especially when it comes to office hours, internships, and getting students involved in research.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Don't worry if you don't know what you want to major in. Most of the people in college end up changing their major because they find something that they like better. Once you are here it is important to enjoy your stay here, go out to the events that are held on campus but still know that the principle reason you are here is to learn, so balance your social life and your studying
Bang for the buck In regards to cost, this university is relatively inexpensive to the average student. While the same can not be said for the surrounding area, it is still one of the better educations that one can receive considering that most UC's charge over $30000 this one is roughly $3000 less and you get an education that is on par with the more expensive colleges such as UCLA and UCSB
Am enjoying being here There are a considerable amount of things to do on campus. Whether its something as simple as going down to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) and getting a good workout at the gym or enjoying the natural scenery at Aldrich Park, being here has been great. The Associated Students University of California Irvine (ASUCI) do all they can to make sure that we have events that we, the students, would actually attend.
Am learning a lot What I have learned here is nothing compared to high school. There is absolutely no comparing what you learn here. I will admit that it is difficult but its not impossible, especially considering that both the professors and t.a's are willing to stay after class and talk to you, meet with you during their office hours so you can talk to them one on one, plus they do all they can to make sure you get the material. I've learned so very much in my short time here and its been great.

Tips for prospective students Come with an open mind, do not believe everything you hear about UCI. Experience the school for yourself. Eat at the commons, stay in the dorms, go to a class. Be your own critic....you will be surprised
Bang for the buck Since UCI is a state school it is well worth the cost. I feel like I am getting a BIG bang for my buck and I have to pay for this myself!!!!
Am enjoying being here I love it here. I have met many wonderful people and enjoy both the social and academic aspects of the school.
Am learning a lot Yes the classes are very interesting and challenging. In order to get the most out of your classes you have to put a lot in. UCI is a very competitive school, so be ready to hit the ground running when it comes to school work.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students They say UCI is a school for bio majors. That might be true but in reality this school and well as any school is for those students who are determined and have great self-control. If you got that then you're pretty much good.
Tips for prospective students Have a week of Irvine before you move in. Go around the OC and find places that are within 30 minutes away. Learn how to use the bus. Chances are that is how you will be getting around. During SPOP, which is orientation, try to make connections and I mean lasting connections. Exchange numbers. College is much easier with friends. Develop good study habits. It's easy to get distracted when you have hallmates yelling in the common room. Don't get too overwhelmed. You have to learn that sometimes you've done all you could do and just have to relax.
Am enjoying being here There's not much to do around here. Depending on where you stay Mesa Court or Middle Earth you will find a completely different atmosphere. Here in Middle Earth things are quiet. They do have events though. Small events during the weekend to get people out and about. Sometimes it can be hard making friends with your hall. I find it easier to blend in with other halls. I'm not a huge fan of UCI but I do like the ability to go for a late night walk in Aldrich Park and not have to feel unsafe. People around here are nice when it comes to move in time.
Am learning a lot I am currently taking three classes. Bio 93, Writing 39B and Chem 1A. If you are planning on being a bio major and attending UCI these will probably be your classes. My biology and chem professors are really helpful. They make sure to provide enough examples. They make office hours very accessible. For Chem I do find myself learning a lot. Since I didn't pass the AP Bio exam with a 5 I have to take Bio93. My bio book is the exact same book I had for AP Bio so not exactly learning anything new. However my Bio professors do add information from their research.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think UCI is great for basically everyone actually. I think anyone can find their niche here.
Tips for prospective students Even if you think a UC is not an option for you, still apply. You never know what they may see in you. Definitely get involved on campus in things you like to do and be open to new friends and new ideas.
Bang for the buck I think any UC school is worth the money. They really aren't that expensive and you get a great education with so many opportunities to take part in.
Am enjoying being here The students and faculty at UCI are great people. Everyone is nice and willing to help. You don't see any bullying or anything like that. I love being here. The Middle Earth dorms are really awesome. There are always things to do and great places to study.
Am learning a lot Classes are very different from high school, but the professors have so many office hours and they are willing to help everyone. I have already learned so much and I am only a freshman. I can't wait to see what else I will learn.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI is right for you if you want a peaceful campus. Also if you enjoy or want to do research along with your professor UCI is the right place to go.
Tips for prospective students As a UCI freshmen that has just started college the best tip I can give to prospective students is to not fall behind on their readings because it is easier to keep up than to catch up.
Bang for the buck The money you invest in your education at UCI is very much rewarded with the knowledge you get. The price you pay is twice rewarded because you obtain experience and resources that you will use in your desired career.
Am enjoying being here Since the moment I walked into the campus I felt at home. Everyone is so nice and friendly. They walk around campus smiling and looking cheerful and truly I can't say my opinion has changed. I really do feel like the campus is my home. I especially love Aldrich Park because it brings nature and the campus together. I really enjoy being a student at UCI because I am learning and making friends all at once.
Am learning a lot The professor at UCI are very friendly and have created a rigorous but very informative curriculum for the students. Personally I think they are the best of the best and strive for excellence from their students which is great if you want to obtain the most out of your education. You also have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and do research with the professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who work fine on their own, and isn't afraid to go to professors for help. Students who have the discipline to make themselves do the homework and make themselves read the book
Tips for prospective students Major in something that you're interested in..I wasn't interested in Biology AT ALL, but I took it and I was miserable. It was incredibly boring for me and I didn't do too well my first quarter.
Bang for the buck I have to say that it's pretty expensive here...maybe it's like that at all UC's.
Am enjoying being here The city is really nice and peaceful and everyone here is friendly. I dorm so my hallmates are amazing and there always seems to be something there to do.
Am learning a lot I just finished my first quarter at UCI, so my review might not be too accurate. I'm a Biology major, probably transferring into Social Sciences. I think that The lectures and professors are really great, it's just that the subject did not interest me..so I didn't learn much

Categories Comments Great for these types of students In my point for view, I think students that are in love with nature and science will be compatible with UCI. After all, UCI is filled with many trees and science-based majors. I'm not saying that trees and science-based majors are the only ones that should go to this school, but it's definitely perfect for those individuals that love this green and science-like environment.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate. The worse thing a student can do once they enter UCI, or any other college, is that they can be left behind fairly easily. Not only will you be overwhelmed, but also stressed out to the point where you'll want to pull your hair out.
Bang for the buck UCI's tuition is similar to the others. Generally, it would cost an estimate of 30,000 dollars a year (give or take the amount of classes you take and where you are living), but this is just for a first year. The tuition is expensive, but the quality of the education fairs easily with the costs.
Am enjoying being here There are many things on things that are fantastic on this campus: the opportunities, the nature around the area, the spirited environment, and the motivated teachers. Even though this campus has just about everything that seems to be perfect, I gave this rating half of six because of the amount of academic stress there is at times. The campus is well-rounded, serving both the student's mental and physical health. But it does get to the point where me, the student, want to just relax for a bit.
Am learning a lot The professors are extremely knowledgeable and very interesting. I'm learning a lot mainly due to their passion in the material. This passion really does instill me to learn a lot more than I really have had in the past.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UC Irvine is a great school for those who want to be challenged academically. UC Irvine is a great school and the professors teach the material very well. Although all of Irvine's departments are wonderful, the Neuroscience Department is one of the best in California, and maybe the US.
Tips for prospective students I believe time management is most important. I had to relearn how to manage my time better. In college, you have more time in between classes, but you need to use that time wisely. Also, be aware that college goes by quicker than high school because, depending on your classes, just three weeks after the quarter has started you have midterms and then suddenly, it's finals week. Finally, if you need help then you should get help. There is plenty of help for students here at Irvine, but you just need to look.
Bang for the buck College is expensive but it is definitely worth it because at UC Irvine, you get a great education. Although UC Irvine is not as prestigious as UCLA or any other schools, it is just as good academically and athletically as any other.
Am enjoying being here I was accepted to many colleges, but it came down to Irvine and Santa Barbara. I decided to visit both schools in order to make my final decision. When I came to Irvine, I immediately felt like this was the place for me. The environment was perfect and peaceful. The events have been really entertaining and everyone is just very welcoming.
Am learning a lot I am already in my final quarter of my first year of college at UC Irvine and I can definitely say I have learned a lot. The professors are kind and they really care about their students. If you need help they will help you. The professors I've had have amazed me; they definitely know what they're talking about.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone really! There's tons of different clubs and activities that cater to many different interests. If you're coming for solely academic purposes, engineering and bio are big majors here. The new business majors are gaining interest. There are also many minors available. I had no idea I wanted to pursue a minor until I attended and saw what was available.
Tips for prospective students Keep up on the class readings. Every class has some type of reading to be done, and if you can keep up with the class schedule you'll definitely be prepared for exams. Basically, don't procrastinate. Of course, that's always easier said than done though. ;)
Bang for the buck You get what you put into it. Someone can pay his fees but not learn anything and say the fees are too high. If you genuinely enjoy challenges and learning new things, it's definitely the bang for the buck!
Am enjoying being here Great campus with a beautiful park in the middle. There are places for people to hang out and relax and quiet places for people to study or do homework. The professors and faculty are nice and most of the students are very friendly and approachable. Irvine is a great neighborhood too, and if you like Asian foods, you'll never be out of choices here! ;)
Am learning a lot I am definitely learning a lot here. There are MANY great professors and they truly want to help students learn and enjoy the subjects they are teaching.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Actually anyone attending UC Irvine want to give me some tips? Whether its certain classes or certain restaurants to go to, I'm up for it!
Bang for the buck I guess I'll find out once I start going right? Right now I find it really expensive because I'm only getting a bit of financial aid, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
Will enjoy being here I've gone around UC Irvine and the places surrounding it and everything seems great! Everything looks clean, nice, and safe. I'm not a party person so I really do think this is the school for me.
Will learn a lot I haven't attended here yet so I'm not sure if I will learn a lot. But I really do believe this has to do with how hard YOU try not just your professors. I've heard great things about this school and its academics so I'm excited to go.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone and everyone belongs at UCI. There is always some person, group, or club ready to take you in and help you assimilate yourself into a life that you are happy with.
Tips for prospective students Be open to new ideas, new experiences, and make choices that you'll be happy with in the future.
Bang for the buck Housing is readily available for those who need it and there is always help for those who have any financial difficulties. But you definitely get a solid education and hope for the future.
Am enjoying being here People who go to UCI are friendly and open to suggestions and freedom of speech. There have been displays of open support of the BGLT community as well as help for those in the Middle East. There are people out on campus expressing their opinions against raised fees or teacher pay cuts.
Am learning a lot Not only am I learning material from the classes, but I'm also learning life long skills from my friends and my peers. I've learned what study methods work best for me through watching my friends and experimenting with study groups and study rooms as well as the library and Gateway.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone that wants to meet a diverse and amazing student body while getting a top education from renowned professors.
Tips for prospective students Throw away any preconceptions you may have. After attending the nationally ranked orientation at UCI, I was more than ready to attend UCI. Have an open mind and you'll love UCI.
Bang for the buck Despite the recent increase in tuition, going to UCI is well worth it, especially if you live at home. UCI is known as a commuter school, so if you're living at home and attend UCI you're getting a top education at a reasonable price, AND you don't have to pay for living.
Am enjoying being here UCI is not like the typical college experience that you see on TV. There's not as many parties and at times it can be quiet, but it's nice that it's not as crazy as some other colleges. The peaceful environment can sometimes be very nice.
Am learning a lot I had a lot of preconceptions about UCI, but honestly the professors here are amazing. Many of them are top researchers in their fields so they know a lot, and are willing to teach it to you. It's comforting to know that I am learning from some of the best and brightest.

Categories Comments Will enjoy being here The campus is incredible. Very beautiful, they sight is just amazing. My friend who goes here says that she sees students always rushing to class with books in their arms. Although it is a good school, the students seem to be very rushed, not taking their time for anything.
Will learn a lot UCI is included in the top ten colleges in the entire world. My friend is currently attending this school and she says that the teachers are really good, even if they assign you loads of work.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Irvine is great for students who need a little less cut throat environment. Student who preform well under their own pressure rather than someone else will thrive here.
Tips for prospective students My tips would be to visit the campus and sit in on a class of your interested major and see if it clicks for you. Check out the facilities the eating quarters and Aldrich Park. If you don't enjoy it than maybe Irvine isn't right for you.
Bang for the buck It is a little expensive especially since the area is filled with old money. But you really do get your bang for you buck with the high quality education and great living style.
Am enjoying being here Irvine is also located in an amazing area. You are right next to the beach as well as close enough to the city. It is a relaxed area and makes you feel like you are always on vacation.
Am learning a lot Being at Irvine gives you the chance to be able to learn for the sake of learning and expanding your knowledge rather then simply learning to pass the test. I have had a great deal of experience with these types of classes where the only way to pass is to memorize material rather than understanding it. At Irvine however I feel that I have the chance to learn a lot with the great professors and amazing staff.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who don't mind doing some walking up and down some hills and being around a lot of Asians. Student who might be interested in doing some research. Students who enjoy the warm weather of Southern California.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your professors on a deeper level than in class. You're going to need it when it comes down to letters of recommendations in the future. Join on-campus clubs and organizations to get to know others. If possible, carpool with someone in order to avoid the costly parking permits.
Bang for the buck The only complaint I have about UCI is the parking. It's expensive and hard to find, especially for the residents. Obviously, due to the budget cuts, the tuition has increased and the availability of courses have decreased.
Am enjoying being here I don't enjoy doing research, but I have learned a lot through some of my classes that required a research element. Having research skills really helps you to obtain a good job in the future. I haven't really joined any clubs or organizations since I've been here (which might affect my rating) because I spent that time working, doing internships, and studying. However, I would say the majority of the students here are actually really involved on-campus. Campuswide events, such as Shocktoberfest, really brings us together.
Am learning a lot I have been attending UCI for 3 years now, and I've come to realize that the professors here are really open to helping you to achieve your goals. It's really important for you to show up to office hours though. Don't wait until midterms and/or finals are around the corner to approach them. Many of my professors spend most of their office hours alone because most students just aren't showing up on a regular basis. I definitely feel the difference in my intelligence level just the way I speak on a topic that I've learned throughout my college experience, especially when others are turning to me for help on that topic or situation. I exited high school hoping to be able to engage in intelligent conversations like I see on TV or elsewhere, and I have gotten that through my experience at UCI. Student services, such as the Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC), helps students on their classes and study skills. UCI supports student research, so if you do faculty-supervised research, you will get compensated for it through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students looking for a place where they will be challenged to think critically in the classroom but also somewhere fun. Apparently the School of Biological Sciences is world class. The gym is top-notch and there are plenty of clubs, organizations, and greek life. There are plenty of parties you just have to know where they are happening.
Tips for prospective students In spite of being a college town there isn't much to do here. There is NO nightlife in terms of clubs/bars. It's a lot of office buildings and corporate parks. There are things to do in the surrounding area but you have to leave Irvine. So it's good to have a car/license! But make sure you come to a full and complete stop at the stop signs. The cops are zealous here and will ticket you for things like that. Also, don't park places overnight unless you are sure it's ok. You will get towed/ticketed and it is not cheap.
Bang for the buck College is expensive and there isn't much you can do about that except try and mitigate the costs with grants, scholarships, and loans as best as you can.
Am enjoying being here I love my major and the people within my school (Claire Trevor School of the Arts). This part of campus is gorgeous and so vibrant and full of creativity.
Am learning a lot The best part about being a drama major is the fact that all my classes are under 30 students. All my professors know me by name. So I'm not just a number out of 300 in a lecture. I get units for doing what I'm passionate about and I'm excited for this upcoming year and all the projects I'm going to work on.

Categories Comments Am learning a lot One thing I have noticed here at UCI is that there are so many resources to help you do well. Everyone here really wants you to succeed. Access to tutoring (both free and paid for) is incredibly easy. Yes the lecture halls are huge, but the professors will always give you their e-mails and encourage you to visit them during their office hours. Also, once a week you meet in a smaller group of students with a grad student who helps you with the material from the lecture. It is very helpful to have material explained in a different way.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Research-oriented students. UC Irvine has one of the greatest research institutions and is renowned for its research achievements all over the world. If you're in social movements, UC Irvine specializes in social movements. Our Sociology Department has a great, prestigious set of professors who have both contributed to the realm of sociological research and social advocacy. May I recommend you get to know the following: Prof. Caesar Sereseres, Prof. Al Valdez, Prof. Charles O'Connel, Prof. Carter Butts... these are only but a few of the AMAZING faculty we have in the Sociology department. And THAT's just one department within the School of Social Sciences... GO SOCIAL SCIENCES!
Tips for prospective students Because the University of California system is a research-oriented school, research experience in high school gives you a definite leg-up. Engage in your own independent research projects, participate in science fairs. And you DEFINITELY MUST get to know your high school teachers and college counselor. Visit them in their office often, and seek their advice and listen to them! Also, get involved in clubs on campus that express your interests and passions. Without these extracurricular activities, you wouldn't be able to come up with creative ideas for writing your personal statement.
Bang for the buck What with the incredible budget cuts and vastly increasing tuition fees in this day and age, it's hard to say that you would be getting your money's worth for a University of California campus. Many popular student services and jobs (i.e. Learning and Academic Resource Center Tutoring, Social Sciences Academic Resource Center). have been cut as a result of these state budget cuts. A lot of the money is being redistributed from the California public educational institutions to other things, including the state prison-industrial system. What used to be on-campus paid internships at the Social Sciences Academic Resource Center (SSARC) for students are no longer paid. Parking on campus is a whole new different story... Many wonderful visiting professors have been laid off and replaced by tenured research professors. In my opinion, I feel that we are losing a lot of passionate professors who love and live to teach and build relationships with students. On the brighter side of things of the recession--there have also been new student services and re-formed support centers that have come to fruition based on students' comments and demand (i.e. Student Outreach Retention Center, Veterans Services, International Student Center). The students are clearly not the only ones feeling the budget cuts; the professors, staff, and faculty feel it as strongly too. So almost everyone if not all of your fellow professors are on your side, and they do their best to provide you the most you can of your educational undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom to give you that bang for the buck.
Am enjoying being here The range of activities at our campus is crazy VAST! There are so many clubs, organizations, internships, jobs, research experiences... you name it, a Mock Trial team, Peer Educator Program, Harry Potter club, and a variety of cultural clubs. Many opportunities to build your social and professional networks and just have fun!
Am learning a lot I choose to stay beyond four years at UC Irvine, because there is just so much more I didn't know as a high school student. And so much more to learn!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Studious and hard working. People looking to get a great education on a beautiful campus. Plus there are many things to do in the immediate area.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as possible outside of the university's financial aid. Also, get involved in campus organizations. Otherwise, you will have a LOT of free time on your hands. Go to office hours and get to know your professors. It will be much better when you need letters of recommendation and they actually know you personally. Classes sizes can be very large so make sure to set yourself apart from the rest of the pack.
Bang for the buck Being a state school, financial aid is virtually non existent. I have no doubt that I am receiving a world class education from great professors, but it can get a little expensive. My advice is to apply for as many scholarships as possible outside of the university's financial aid.
Am enjoying being here I have definitely enjoyed my time so far at UC Irvine. The people are very friendly, respectful and hard working. Campus can get a little boring on the weekends seeing as many residents go home but it is not too bad.
Am learning a lot The professors are all very intelligent and willing to help any student with just about anything. They seem to have an deep interest in helping their students to succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCI is predominantly Asian and if you don't mind the culture shock, you'll be fine. Located in Southern California and the weather is always nice so if you like soCal weather, then Irvine is for you.
Tips for prospective students College life is much different than high school in both the social and academic level. In most classes, your grade is based on your midterm and final. You'll have so much more free time than you did in high school so use it wisely! On the social aspect, you have to go out of your way to meet people versus in high school, it was much easier. However, just take risks and enjoy college as much as you can
Bang for the buck I personally feel that tuition is just expensive in general, but I feel that I am getting what I'm paying for. Free gym membership at the Anteater Recreational Center (ARC), free shuttle service around campus, and there's a University Town Center right across the campus! There is so much to do around Irvine; you just need to make the effort to find opportunities.
Am enjoying being here The people in UCI are very friendly and want to get to know new people. Get plugged in a club and just try to meet as many people as you can. Get to know your hallmates if you're dorming! It'll make your freshman college experience much more fun.
Am learning a lot If you pick the right professors, I believe it'll make UCI a much better experience and much easier as well. I'm an undeclared major going into Public Health and the Biology and Chemistry teachers really know what they're doing. They both love what they're teaching so it makes the lectures more exciting. Many of the professors here have been teaching for a long time so I feel that the education here is just as beneficial than an Ivy.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you have ever wanted to: -Break a dodge ball world record -Be successful in life -Be an anteater -Live in the Orange County than come to UC Irvine.
Tips for prospective students If you are bored, even for one second at UC Irvine, you are doing it all wrong. UCI is a place for fun, learning, and involvement. http://www.uci.edu/features/2011/09/feature_bucketlist_110926.php This bucket list should be a requirement for graduation.
Bang for the buck The UC system is one of the best Universities in the world. UC Irvine has the same engineering school as UCLA, so you know it is top of the line. As long as Yudof keeps his hands out of our pockets, it is one of the best value universities.
Am enjoying being here I am a 4th year chemical engineering student at UCI and I spend about 15 hours a day on campus, and there is no place I would rather be. There are 24 hour computer labs that are a quiet place to study. The pub is a great place to grab a beer with your professor after class. The zot zone is always a great place to relax and grab a game of pool. Students are encouraged to participate with the countless organizations on campus.
Am learning a lot There are about 28,000 students at this University and the professors here make it feel like 100. All of the professors are reachable and very informative. My classes here prepare me for a career in chemical engineering while allowing me to continue with graduate school if I wish to.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Academically driven students. Super over-achievers.
Tips for prospective students Join clubs, go out and see what UCI has to offer! Check into the classes before you buy the books, sometimes they're optional. DORM YOUR FIRST YEAR!!! Its amazing.
Bang for the buck Books are super expensive!! And buyback doesn't give you much at all. They change the editions for books almost every year to make sure kids buy new editions and pay more. Its a public school so tuition is better than private but with budget cuts and increases, beware. No one is safe.
Am enjoying being here The city is not really interesting or has much of a nightlight; definitely not a party school. There are many clubs though and the classes are really good.
Am learning a lot The Humanities really push you to understand the material and develop your critical thinking skills (Philosophy major). The Physical Sciences go really fast and it's mostly up to you how you study and learn. Be careful or you can get left behind! (Biology major)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Apply for scholarships, at least try. After you see the bills and expenses, you'll see why. Go to ratemyprofessors.com, so you can get a feel of the professors and which one you like best.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus first !!! So you can get the feel of it.
Bang for the buck Well all colleges are expensive overall. Loans are probably necessary, but it is still manageable.
Am enjoying being here Well, UCI isn't the most diverse campus as far as I am concerned. It is a bit awkward coming from a place where Hispanics are a majority to being a minority. It is hard to settle in at first, but later you get used to it. Also, UCI is not a party school...AT ALL. You have to find the fun, especially if you are housing and no car.
Am learning a lot The professors are really knowledgeable, they enjoy their class, and are fun. You might once in a while get a boring, lack luster professor, but just try to look out for the professors that are worth your time and interest you.

Academic Rigor Our school is rated #1 in the country (of universities under 50 years old). We're the Harvard of college noobs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus welcoming week was really fun and all the great activities they had for new students as well as old. SPOP was also a fun experience that happens for incoming freshman. Its to get all new students enrolled and familiar with the new campus that we were to soon be entering.
What to do for fun You could go down to the school's gym, the ARC. You may also be able to take the bus to go to newport beach or just lay around with friends in the park, within the school.
Tips for prospective students Do not slack off, stay on track with everything.

Categories Comments Campus Safety irvine is the safest city in at least california, and i'm sure uc irvine is one the safest campuses. i always feel safe here wherever i go and whoever i am with.
Greek Life there are a lot of greek organizations here on campus. a lot of them seem fun and entertaining but they do not pressure any one to join.
Clubs and Activities there are hundreds of clubs on campus of all kinds. if you are looking for a specific type of club, odds are that perfect one is here at uci!
What to do for fun there are many opportunities for fun both on and off campus. my favorites so far are exploring the underground tunnels and going to the beach. middle earth, and i'm sure mesa court as well, sponsors a lot of evens for everyone. some recent ones have been a 50's themed dance, whale watching, a talent show, and later this year we will be making a video for youtube advertising how great our school is!
Food and Dining although the dinning commons have pretty good food, it is easy to get tired of them after a while. there are a lot of other eating facilities and restaurants on and off campus, however, for everyone to enjoy and try. some of my favorite are cha for tea, the asian noodle cafe, starbucks, and subway.
Dorm Life i live in oakenshield, middle earth, and i love my dorm. no doubt about. i have the best r.a. ever and i feel like the friends i am making now are going to be in my life for the rest of my life. they are all just so unique and different, and since none of us knew each other before, we are all comfortable just being ourselves! we have so much fun just hanging out with each other in our common room and other places, and i don't know where i would be without them.
Academic Rigor as far as academics are concerned, it all depends on the type of classes you take and the amount of units. right now i am taking 20 units (the maximum allowed) and although the work load is high, i do not feel as swamped as i thought i would.
Tips for prospective students make sure you do not let your parents take control of your application. this schools loves students who are independent and like to learn to do things on their own.
In three sentences i am so so so glad that i chose to attend uc irvine. the atmosphere here is so wonderful and nice, and everyone here is so considerate and friendly. i am having so much fun getting to know all of my new friends, doing well in all my classes (which i love), and having the time of my life!

Categories Comments What to do for fun you can hang out at the beach, go to the arc (gym), or shop/watch movies at the spectrum.
Food and Dining the food in the dining halls is decent. it's a lot better at pippin than mesa commons. the other food on campus is great though.
Dorm Life the dorms have a really unique community environment. it really depends on what hall you are in because it really determines your experience of living in a dorm. overall, the facilities are great and most of the buildings are renovated.
Academic Rigor this school is one of the best in the uc system so the academics here are really tough. it's not so difficult, but their is quite a heavy workload.
Tips for prospective students get over your generalizations about this school. you have to experience this school to truly understand how amazing it actually is. don't feel like this school isn't good enough for you because students here are a lot smarter than you think.

Bang for the buck i would definatly say that i am getting what i pay for coming to uci. you can not put a price on the quality of the professors and ta's.
What to do for fun at uci there are tons of things to do for fun. the beach is about 10 minutes away, there are plenty of shopping centers to go to and the movies is just a walk away.
Food and Dining the dining hall food at uci is at best ok but that's part of the whole dorming experience! you definitely won't go hungry eating at the dining halls but you'll be glad to go home to your mom's cooking.
Dorm Life the dorm life at uci is for everyone, not just students that are extroverted and enjoy parties. i am reserved by nature and was nervous about dorming but i found that it was not what i expected it to be. the students that i lived with were welcoming and respectful of my lifestyle and included me in all their activities and tried to get me involved.
Academic Rigor uci does not fall short on academic rigor. they recruit the best and expect you to be your best. the teachers do challenge you but they are also available to help you if you need it. the ta's are also very helpful with the rigorous curriculum.
Tips for prospective students if you are planning to attend here and its possible you should dorm. it was one of the most amazing experiences that i've had. i am an introvert by nature and i was able to find a group of friends that i could spend time with and hang out with. there is a niche at uci for everyone.

Clubs and Activities if you want to find a club for something, one most likely exists for it.
Great for these types of students driven, hard working, and smart.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a large beautiful park in the center of campus that all the building surround. our mascot is also an anteater... it was that or unicorn.
Bang for the buck higher education is dealing with a budget crisis right now so school isn't cheap. but degrees are important and this is a great school.

Food and Dining the food court at the student center has really great choices and the commons has good food too.
Dorm Life i can't answer because i did not dorm.
Academic Rigor this definitely depends on the major, but all classes require effort.

Categories Comments Campus Safety they say irvine is one of the safest cities in the nation. the campus is extremely safe with our own police department and a service that accompanies/provides transportation when it's after hours and dark. stealing is uncommon too- even if you leave everything at a table for a bathroom or munchies break!
Greek Life we have abundant greek life at uci, with entire weeks dedicated to greek recruitment.
Clubs and Activities we have over 500 organizations here on campus, and you could start your own too! there's always a handful of activities going on in the same day and you're always welcome!
Great for these types of students if you are coming to college for a party life, go somewhere else. irvine is a really mellow place, especially during the weekends. if you like to have fun but not get crazy drunk, this is it!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus middle earth, one of our dorms, is named after the lord of the rings series. and although not unusual, we have a gorgeous park in the middle of our campus, which is perfect for napping, studying, playing, or photography.
Bang for the buck although with recent cuts and ever increasing fees, some of our professors here make their courses priceless.
What to do for fun there is a plaza across the street with a lot of fun eateries and a theater that shows indie films. organizations host a lot of free movie nights and every once in a while there are vendor fairs and farmer's markets right on campus!
Food and Dining it might get a little repetitive, but we serve some legit food! what other college would serve carne asada steak and eggs at a dorm?! we have a lot of eateries on campus and around campus too!
Dorm Life the food is better than a lot of other colleges, and the rooms are a lot more spacious too. the ra's are a lot of fun and there's so many activities you can't keep count! it's great for study parties or good old fun dance parties.
Academic Rigor some classes will really challenge you to think and learn, but like any other educational facility there will be some classes that seem mediocre.
Tips for prospective students come with a desire to learn, not just because you feel you have to or should. ask someone about the handy shortcuts to get to class faster! we have a shuttle service, so save money on parking and car fees!
In three sentences professors in the political science department are top-notch- better than many at more highly accredited colleges. irvine is quiet enough so that it's peaceful but it isn't so boring you're losing your mind. even the food is good- what's not to love!?

Academic Rigor it really depends on which classes you are taking and with whom. some classes are graded on a bell curve which is helpful for some students, and threatening for others.
Tips for prospective students learn more about the financial aspects of college, and how the meal plan works for freshmen. you should also understand how housing payments work as well as how to navigate around campus.

Food and Dining food and dining is great; there are many franchises on campus to choose from. starbucks, subway, quiznos, just to name a few!
Dorm Life dorm life can be quite boring at times, but it helps with keeping the gpa high.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Defintiely not worth the $12,000 I was charged for my first 3 classes. I have been a resident of California for 2 years and they refuse to charge me resident fees for another 2 years. I can get a better education somewhere else.
What to do for fun They set up stands along the entrance of the school, selling food and clothes.
Food and Dining The only part I liked about attending UCI was the wide variety of food places they offered on campus.
Dorm Life I did not live on campus.
Academic Rigor UCI does not offer enough time and support for one to really be successful in his or her career. They do not show any interest in helping you succeed.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to read all of the fine print before attending. You may be classified as a nonresident even though by all regards you are a resident. Also make sure that you have internet access because most of the schoolwork is online.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I perceive our campus as very safe. We have an escort program which will escort any students to their apartment or dorm at late hours of the night to ensure they make it there safely.
Greek Life There are many greek organizations on campus ranging from multicultural to academic. Many students on campus decide to become part of these groups and usually they find one which suits there interests.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of clubs and organizations on campus, ranging from academic interest groups to ethnic and religious groups. Since these clubs are so diverse and different, as an incoming student you are very likely to find one that you like or fit into. I'm actually part of a Latino organization on campus and it was great to know that there were a group of people interested in the same things as myself.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our campus is a circle! Ring Road is the main road or trail on campus and since it goes in a circle you should not get lost. Walk down this path and you will eventually end up in the same place. We also have an undie run every year, but I don't know too much about it since I have not participated. We also have our annual events such as Shocktoberfest which takes place during fall quarter and it is essentially a concert put on by out student body. These events are really fun and I suggest that you attend these at least once during the time you're here. You should try to attend as many events as possible your first year just so you can make it memorable!
Bang for the buck Tuition just keeps rising and the prices are going up all over the state but it's starting to get ridiculous. There is no need for any student to be paying almost $30,000 for one year at a university. I feel like I am getting the most out of my education but the price is just outrageous.
What to do for fun There isn't much you can do, which is why you have to get creative and be open minded. Take a stroll in Aldrich park or plan a picnic. Go to eat somewhere late at night, like Cha for Tea which is open until 1am. It's pretty cool seeing so many people there so late at night. Sometimes your living community will have activities going on for the residents and those are always fun, because its another opportunity for you to get to know your hallmates and bond with one another.
Food and Dining Living in Middle Earth, our designated dining hall was Pippin Commons. I enjoyed the food there and it honestly is very convenient. You start to miss the food once you live off campus and have to cook for yourself. You will eventually miss home cooked meals, but its definitely worth the meal plan.
Dorm Life I lived in Middle Earth my first year and I have to say that it was an amazing experience. The RA's and staff there really try to put on events and programs to integrate students into the campus life. It is exciting and awesome meeting people whom you will live for the entire year. It's very weird at first because you are sharing a room with a complete stranger who is also there for the same reasons as yourself. However, you will form bonds with a lot of these people. The stranger down the hall may become your best friend. Be open minded when meeting people in your dorms, as they may be from different cities, states or countries. They might also come from backgrounds different from yours, but you can learn a lot of interesting things this way.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes I have taken at UCI have been very challenging. I feel like it forces you into a reality check and allow you to see what you need to change in order to keep up with the rigor demanded of you. Personally, I had trouble with the biology program and the courses it required. It's a very impacted program and become increasingly selective as students start getting into the upper division courses. But then again it all depends on the strengths you hold as a student and whether or not you are interested in the subjects you are studying. I would much rather take courses and pursue a major in which I find the material interesting, than courses in which I have no interest in and am at risk of failing.
Tips for prospective students Before coming here take a campus tour! It is amazing to see the campus for the first time, and you also don't want to get lost on your first day of class.
In three sentences UC Irvine is a very welcoming and friendly campus. Students are all-around happy and helpful to others.

Food and Dining I've never visited UC Irvine, but I've been to UCLA. The food must be delicious.
Dorm Life I still don't know how it's like to be in a dorm at UC Irvine, but I will know really soon. I've taken a look at their pictures they have online to see how the dorms look like and they look really beautiful, where you can share with another student that may be really similar to you.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine is a very rigorous university, where you have to take classes and do research on them, and makes you see things differently; into another perspective.
Tips for prospective students If you want to enroll in one of the best universities, UC Irvine is an amazing choice. Be careful to do everything they need before the deadlines. Be sure also to participate and support your future school.
In three sentences UC Irvine is situated in the cleanest city in Southern California. UC Irvine is giving me the opportunity to have a start with school during the summer. I will give them a 10 if I apply fast enough to be in Summer Bridge Program.

Categories Comments What to do for fun When ever there is a need to have some fun and take a break from books, besides going to Newport Beach to relax, you can also go to the Irvine Spectrum, or Fashion Island, or South Coast plaza to shop. They also have great restaurants such as Dave and Busters, CPK, etc. On the other hand, there is Disneyland which is a couple minutes away from UCI. The Irvine Great park offers a hot air ballon ride around orange county. ITS FREE!! If you want to stay local, Irvine Lanes can always be fun, or even the Pub at the UCI student Center.
Food and Dining Freshmen 15 is bound to happen, but the food is great, especially as the dinning commons, Pippins. They have a variety of food, and very delicious too. The Student Center offers a variety of food too. I had my first experience eating a shrimp burrito from Wahoos. Food is delicious.
Dorm Life People are friendly, outgoing, etc. You do meet your true friends as a freshmen in the dormitories. The experience of meeting different people, being able to form study groups, to have a work out buddy is amazing.
Academic Rigor UCI is part of the University of California Regents System, and it is supposed to provide rigorous curriculum to challenge the students. If you were admitted as an Anteater, you can do it, you just need to focus and dedicated to school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you guys attend office hours. Professors are there to help you, but you must be enthusiastic about going to them. They are very approachable and are willing to help you if you take the time to look for them and approach them.
In three sentences UCI is one of the best Universities in Southern California. We might not have the prestige but sooner rather than later the students who attended UCI will make the School shine. It offers many opportunities for students to embrace themselves as individuals.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security escort services will walk you to and from class, the library, your car, dorm etc late at night if you need it. Campus police is pretty quick to respond. Zotlink warns of any emergencies on campus via text message and gives frequent updates.
Clubs and Activities Lots of ways to get involved on campus and something for everybody.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The mascot is an anteater
What to do for fun Close to great shopping (South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum, etc) and less than 5 miles from the beach, where there are lots of bars, restaurants and clubs. Lots of fun events and big name musical artists on campus. Great restaurants close by as well, and close enough to go out in LA for a fun night out, or to San Diego or Vegas for weekend trips.
Food and Dining Good food on campus, can get a bit pricey though. In-N-Out burger across from campus is delicious, cheap, and always packed.
Dorm Life Very nice campus and gorgeous apartment style dorms at Puerta del Sol, Vista del Campo, and Vista del Norte. Convenient and close to campus, and shuttle service available to affordable apartments in Newport Beach
Academic Rigor Classes were always challenging but manageable. You must be willing to think out of the box and be open to constructive criticism from your professors and TA's. Tutoring available at the LARC is very helpful.
Tips for prospective students Speak up, ask questions, go to office hours and get to know your professors. Doing so will enrich your academic experience. If you go to lecture, sit in the back, and don't engage in your academic career, then you will be bored.
In three sentences Great on campus experience in the Global Cultures and Literary Journalism programs. Professors are invested in the personal and academic growth of their students. Very nice campus and great location.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Uc irvine has a reputation for being one of the most safest campuses. Its said you can literally walk in the middle of the night alone on the campus trails and nothing would happen.Though not really recommended pluse it's always better to bring a friend because it's more fun.
Clubs and Activities Well being involved with clubs is fun I know from past experience in high school.so I'm sure to join at uc irvine making my future college days exciting. Also some people say your more likely to want to go to school if your involved being in clubs and activities is like being in a family.
Bang for the buck What more can I say about uc irvine without sounding like I'm bragging.Well it's just an all around good school with good people not to pricy although the area is super high maintenance.
What to do for fun Haven't actually been a college student at uc irvine but I have stayed the night at a local hotel to get to know the area. There are many shopping malls near by pretty pricy so I wouldn't recommend it but a pluse about uc irvine is your near the beach and at the center of Los Angeles and San Diago.
Food and Dining Well some people say its nothing like your mothers cooking. That's only because your either cooking for ur self eating fast food or have a meal plan at school. One thing for sure is at this school will not let you starve the students are friendly and would be glad to share their own food.
Dorm Life After living at home for 18 years of my life I can truly say this will be one of the biggest challenges, not living in a home where you are sheltered from the world. I feel that even though I will be moving out, the school I have chosen, uc irvine does a stunning job of letting us decided our residential halls where we will be living and who our roommates will be.Looking at the space I would say its sufficient amount of room.
Academic Rigor Academically this school is pretty well rounded, you may not have the comfort of having a mom to tell you what to do, but there are camp programs that are vary supportive.Ofering tutoring for anyone who needs it, the students teachers and councelers are extremely in touch with each other making it a great environment for learning.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit the campus before you decide on any college.I choose uc irvine not only for its outstanding reputation but for its environment.
In three sentences When I first stepped onto the campus I was a bit nervous.Because, being an incoming freshmen can be a bit nerv racking, but uc irvine has a relaxing invirnment that is located near the beach with many friendly faces.I would recommend visiting the campus it's gorgeous with many dedicated students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine has been voted the safest city in the United States. However they have been recent robberies of bicycles however if you register your bicycle with the police department of Irvine then everything will be fine.
Greek Life There are several sororities and fraternities that each vary as there are some that are academic orientated while others are nonacademic. There is an option available for you so go out and look for your perfect sorority or fraternity.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everyone and if for some strange reason you can not find what you are looking for then you can always start your own club. First make sure to look around at your options as there is over 70 different clubs and organizations at University of California at Irvine . There is always something to do at the University of California at Irvine.
Great for these types of students Academic students that are not prone to partying a lot. The school in itself is not a party school so be prepared to study and get involved.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and sororities/fraternities that you can join that you will always have fun. The beach is also like 9 miles away from each side and you also have Disneyland that is always fun. The campus in itself is fun as there are many adventures and places to discover.
Food and Dining I heard the food is delicious which would explain why they say that you gain 15 pounds your first year because you get spoiled with food. There are different options as to the meal plan that you want which is great. You can also have the option of having snacks in your dorm just make sure to not have to many.
Dorm Life The dorms are gorgeous even though they are small however they are still very roomy and comfortable from what I got to see. You have the option as to where you want to live and with who. You can either double or triple which depends on what you desire and want.
Academic Rigor The school has a strict academic requirements that are needed to graduate. You will be surrounded by intellectual people from different background so be prepared to study. For each class lecture expect to study at least twice as long.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus so you can ensure that the school is the right environment for you. Do not listen to other students always contact the Admissions Office or talk to your Counselor. Apply for scholarships and check up on your Financial Aid.
In three sentences It is a well rounded school that has a strong program in Biological Sciences. It is well recognized worldwide which will help broaden my opportunities. The campus is beautiful and while it is big it is easy to get around.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's Irvine, so being the safest city in the United States I would say that safety is excellent and not an issue. Don't abuse your safety though, you should be walking with another person at night- it can get dark and lonely.
Greek Life We have multicultural, Asian, African American, Latino fraternities/ sororities. There are ranging from social to academics so it is not all party.
Clubs and Activities There is something for everyone, and if you want you can start your own club. There is clubs that range from multicultural to sports and really there is something for you if you look for it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You can see the Disneyland fireworks at around 9:45 from the top of Engineering Hall.
What to do for fun If you really want to have fun I would recommend joining a school organization, there is something for everyone's taste and it can truly a place where you can be yourself and it can be become your home away from home.
Food and Dining The food is great, of course you will get tired of it but there is variety and if you live in Middle Earth there are two hall dinning locations.
Dorm Life Dorm life is definitely a must if you have the financial possibility to do it.The housing facilities are great and conveniently located. If you enjoy sleeping a lot you can literally wake up and go to class in less than 5 minutes you are there. If you decide on Irvine I would recommend to do the residential housing for first years; either Middle Earth or MESA.
Academic Rigor I believe the academic in this institutions are excellent and those it is not hard to say that you really do have to work hard to get the grades you desire. Everything is definitely doable and you can built up new study skills that will help you get through the courses.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you budget your money correctly because you can really save up if you don't waste your money. Classes with a lot of reading material should be your priority; what I mean to say is that you should not fall behind on reading specially because we are a quarter and it can be hard to catch up.
In three sentences Great academics and enrichment programs. The school is a tear one research institution. Numerous opportunities for all cultural backgrounds.

Categories Comments Campus Safety For the most part, UCI is very safe. Irvine is considered a very safe area and honestly, you rarely hear of anything being stolen or unsafe. It's really great!
Clubs and Activities There's a club for everything and people are really welcoming!
Great for these types of students People who are NOT looking to party! If you want to study but still have options available for you if you want to hang out, then it's perfect.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Basketball season is intoxicating; also, Octoberfest is a lot of fun! We have lots of fairs and festivals on campus.
Bang for the buck I'm from out of state, which does mean that I pay a lot of extra. But it's worth it. UCI is seen as the top up and coming new university in the USA, which means that now is the perfect time to get in before it becomes another UCLA!
What to do for fun I hang out with friends a lot. There are fun events at the ARC and lots of communities have things to do that are fun.
Food and Dining There are a lot of food options on campus and what isn't on campus can be found right across the street in UTC. The best part is that they have vegan and vegetarian options; in fact, UCI was rated as the most vegan friendly school!
Dorm Life The staff for the housing communities as UCI are AMAZING! They try really hard to make living in the dorms a unique experience for each person and since Irvine tends to be fairly safe, it's easy to get comfortable.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes can be SUPER hard, but there are also fairly easy ones. Most GE classes are reasonable, but some major requirements can be difficult and there is quite a bit of competition within classes.
Tips for prospective students Go on a campus tour! They give you a lot of information that's sort of neat about the school. You also get a feel for the atmosphere and some of the people.
In three sentences Great atmosphere and professors that really want to teach you. It's a pleasure to be here, although it isn't where you want to go if you're looking for a party life. It tends to be rather quiet.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never feel scared walking around at night. It's definitely one of the most safest campuses.
Greek Life I know a lot of people in frats and sororities and they seem really happy about it! There are plenty of misconceptions about fraternities but if you join the right ones and hang out with the right people, it's sure to benefit you.
Clubs and Activities Definitely there are a lot of things to do because of how many clubs we have! There's a club for anyone and anything but if you don't feel like there's a club for you, you can easily start one yourself!
Great for these types of students People who are looking for an accepting and happy group of students and who are open to new experiences and people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Wayzgoose and Shocktoberfest are two of the most fun events at UCI. We have performers and, at Wayzgoose, all the clubs go out and advertise their cause which is really amazing.
Bang for the buck Irvine is a rich-city so there are a lot of good places to eat but definitely can be expensive. The tuition itself and the dorm fees can get crazy expensive so watch your money!
What to do for fun You make your own fun in UCI! There's college sports, movie theaters at UTC, the Spectrum mall 15 minutes away by car, Fashion Island, the District, and a lot more. There's tons of things to do in Irvine, especially eat really good food!
Food and Dining The food is a little...eh. Except for breakfast at Mesa Commons and lunch and dinner at Pippins. If you're not feeling on-campus foods, right across the street, there's University Town Center which has restaurants and all kinds of places to go to.
Dorm Life It's amazing living with people you've never met before because you learn so much from them. I lived in a hall called Aldea and it was the best experience of my life so far!
Academic Rigor If you sit down and read, you'll understand the material. The support system is amazing and we have tutoring such as LARC or other peer-tutoring to help out if you need help.
Tips for prospective students When you go into college, you're going to expect people partying all the time and you don't think of the studying aspect as much. People in UCI definitely learn to balance their social life with their study life. Understand that procrastination is probably what will get you a low gpa first quarter.
In three sentences UCI is a safe, quiet college but is definitely filled with experiences like no other. The people, the food, the vibe and everything else about UCI is unique and different from any other college I've seen. It's also filled with happy people genuinely enjoying their college years.

Food and Dining The food is good and made to order. The commons are clean and there is a lot of room. Good food but it gets boring after a while.
Dorm Life Dorm life is very fun and makes college acceptable. Is an environment that helps you cope as well as settle into the school. I greatly recommend it.
Academic Rigor All professors expect you to work hard. There are a lot of readings and deadlines to meet. Make sure to stay organized.
Tips for prospective students It is a great school and in a friendly environment. You need to expect to work and study hard. The quarter system works very quickly make sure to stay on top of your game.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UCI has been said to be one of the most safest campuses in the nation. It has service poles where you can simply press a button and security will come to assist you within minutes. There is also someone on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you if you are in a dangerous situation or need help being escorted somewhere or even if you need to be let into your dorm.
What to do for fun Although I have not yet attended UCI, I have seen many different things that people can do for fun on and around the campus. There are hundreds of different clubs that students can join. Also, students can create their own clubs as well if there isn't one that they enjoy. And around campus there are different fitness facilities, movie theaters, shopping boutiques. Anything you would like is most likely within a 20 minute driving range; even the beach.
Food and Dining I have eaten at various facilities that UCI has on campus, and they are of a reasonable price. They have many different options to meet every ones different needs.
Dorm Life I have not yet lived in the dorms. But I have visited both dorm facilities that UCI has to offer and they are both beautiful. They give off a feeling of success.
Academic Rigor When I visited the campus, school was still in session and I could tell that every student was there to get an education and truly enjoyed the education offered by UCI. Moreover, UCI is ranked very high in the nation for their academic success. And it also has a state of the art research program where students can excel even further in their education.
Tips for prospective students I feel that if you are interested in attending UCI, you should make sure that everything fits your criteria. For example, make sure that tuition and room and board are within your budgets. And also make sure that this school is good for your intended major.
In three sentences UCI is one of the most prospective schools that I have seen and researched. It has very high standards. And it is also a place where I find myself having much success in the near future.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is not much to do around the area unless you have a car and can go to the Irvine Spectrum or the District.
Food and Dining The food on campus is not necessarily healthy and the fact that the meal plan allows a buffet sort of venue, does not particularly encourage a healthy diet. Hence, the freshmen ten.
Dorm Life The dorms located on campus allow you make friendships and be able to wake up late with a great chance of still being able to make it to your class on time.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit before deciding to attend and be sure to try either renting your books or waiting until the first day of class to make sure that you need the book. I did spend money on books I hardly ever used in multiple classes and do not encourage doing so ever again if there are other ways to get such resources.
In three sentences The University of California, Irvine is a valued university in the field of undergraduate research. However, there is not much ethnic diversity on campus. There are many opportunities to get involved, but the classrooms usually fill up quickly and the professors mostly seem occupied with their own research at times.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The most dangerous thing on this campus is probably Greek Life and that isn't saying much. If safety is high on your priority list then this school is #1. There is a police department in the center of campus and they often patrol during the nights looking for intoxicated students.,
Greek Life Remember those popular kids in high school? Now they all live in their own house in a community called AV (Arroyo Vista). If you are tall, good-looking and have money then they are perfect for you; if not, then a club will be more accepting. They go to parties in Newport every Thursday and Friday and usually have police to check their party bus before they leave and when they return.
Clubs and Activities They offer a wide range of clubs and activities but most are just weekly meetings where they talk about the best way to raise funds and the end of the year activity. They are an excellent place to meet new people and learn about the campus and again will only give what you put in.
Great for these types of students If you are a Biology Major or a really motivated to attend graduate school then UCI is a great school. There are very little distractions and even though they do not have 24/7 study areas on-campus there are study rooms across the street in the apartments where you can study all night long.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None. There is very little school spirit and we lack a football team. It is few and far in between to see a student sport UCI gear let alone embrace our unpopular mascot the anteater.
Bang for the buck If your parents make over 80,000 dollars and you cannot qualify for the Blue-Gold Plan then this University is an over-priced waste of time unless you are planning to be a Biology major. It will not prepare the majority of students attending and leave them knee-deep in student loans.
What to do for fun Not much. Join a fraternity or sorority if you are looking to party and meet people. Other than that most nights on campus are quiet and heavily patrolled by police and UCI students who are junior police. Take my advice and find a place off campus to have fun.
Food and Dining They offer mediocre buffets for the underclassmen and at quite a price. The food selection becomes repetitive after the first month and is required if you are a Freshman or Sophomore. There is an In-N-Out across the street but it is usually packed at all times throughout the day.
Dorm Life The dorm life is very controlled and even though most everyone is already an adult they do not allow for much freedom on this campus. It is located in the quiet, heavily policed city of Irvine and they like to keep it that way. Do not expect to party at this school, most of the action happens in neighboring cities.
Academic Rigor As for most majors the majority of your grade is based on the midterm and final exam. They are most likely Scantron test because written exams would be inconvenient to administer to class sizes this big. Lectures are usually not required and most of the information can be found in the book or the professors post their power-points online.
Tips for prospective students Be proactive with your education and DO NOT expect the professors to care whether you succeed or not. The school is filled with 17,000 students plus and it feels like it. There are many opportunities to get involved and do not wait to take them, especially for transfer students.
In three sentences The University of California Irvine is a quiet school surrounded by nature. Most of the classes they offer are 300 students plus and hardly allow for any opportunity to have face time with the professor. The TAs are usually under-qualified and over-worked which makes it difficult to have consistent rubrics.

Dorm Life Love my RA and my hallmates.

Tips for prospective students Management your time wisely and do the right things. You don't have to fall for negative incentive and stand up for youself. Study hard.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is ranked as one of the safest cities in the nation. Not only is the police and fire department just down the street from campus, there are also accommodations to help staff and students feel safe when walking through campus at night. There is also text message/email system that informs students of any issues that may take place near campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of clubs to join; rather it would be difficult not to find the club you are looking for. But in the event that this club doesn't exist, well then you can start your own club!
Great for these types of students it is great for nature lovers because we have a park right in the middle of campus. It is also great for school leaders and students that were in student body in high school because we make ourselves heard!
Bang for the buck Even with the increase in tuition fees, UCI is still worth the money.
What to do for fun For fun, you can hit up the gym with your friends and play some tennis, basketball, or go for a swim. There is theater across the street. UCI is also in close proximity to major attractions like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and many beaches.
Food and Dining Though it is a bit on the expensive side, the food is delicious and caters to everyone's palate, including vegetarians and vegans. There are also fast food shops across the street.
Dorm Life Dorm life gives you the opportunity to make friends right away. For freshmen, there are 2 dorm areas that are pretty chill and have many activities.
Academic Rigor There are some classes that are more difficult than others, but if you manage your time wisely, they are very doable classes.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared to study hard and to absorb a lot of information because it is not like high school. Also keep an open mind on what clubs you want to join.
In three sentences There is a balance of ambiance and liveliness on campus. The courses are challenging and most of the professors are helpful. There are many career resources available on campus

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is extremely safe. Irvine is considered one of the safest cities in the world. I would walk in the park at the middle of the night and not feel afraid. Also, there are buttons that you can press all over campus. If you press them, campus police will be there within two minutes to escort you wherever you need to go.
Bang for the buck They sell boba and other food on Ring Road daily! The prices are so cheap. You can get boba for $1! Also, every month they hold a farmers market and clothes sale on Ring Road. Cheap buys!
What to do for fun There are over 500 clubs on campus. For fun, I usually go to the ARC, or gym. The gym is absolutely beautiful. You can join intramural or club teams if sports is what you're interested in. Also, the park is a nice place to sit, study, or get a tan! UCI is in the middle of everything!
Food and Dining Food is easily accessible at UCI. You are given swipes that you can use at the 3 commons on campus. Sometimes their food is delicious and sometimes it's not as good. They also give you Zotbucks that you can use at any food place on campus. After a while, common food can become tiresome so don't forget to bring your own food from home sometimes. There are kitchens in your hall so you can cook your own food.
Dorm Life Dorm life could be really fun but extremely noisy. It's hard to study when there are a group of people screaming at the top of their lungs during the wee hours of the morning. Nonetheless, it's a great experience that I would never take back. Also, try to leave your dorm room open to the other people in your hall, you never know who you will meet. I know I met my best friends while I was dorming. The nice thing about dorming at UCI is that the Residential Advisers hold a lot of activities so that you can bond with the other people in your hall.
Academic Rigor The Biological Sciences and Chemistry classes at UCI are especially challenging. The courses are very fast paced. The professors expect you to know everything they are teaching. I recommend enrolling in LARC classes if you get the chance. They are very helpful and they are offered at a low price.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you are open to new experiences. Also, try to meet a lot of people during Welcome Week. Remember that everyone is in the same position you are. Regarding studies, DO NOT FALL BEHIND! It's hard to catch up when the academics are so fast paced. Don't be intimidated by your professors, they are there to help. Try to go to office hours when you do not understand a concept. Lastly, if you do not do so well during your first quarter of college, don't beat yourself up about it. Use it as motivation to do better.
In three sentences UCI is definitely a large campus when you are coming from a small high school. Although it may seem intimidating, it's a lot of fun. There are so many clubs that you are sure to find one that fits your interests.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I am a student athlete so I do not have a lot of free time, but there is a lot to do. There is the ARC, which is the recreation center, and it has everything from weights, basketball courts, a pool, and many other things. Also UCI is very close to Newport beach, which is a good place to relax and hangout with friends.
Food and Dining There is everything that a college student would want, cheap food along with more expensive restaurants for the times that you want to splurge.
Dorm Life I commuted so I cannot comment.
Academic Rigor So far I have only taken GE's, so I do not know the full pressure of major classes, but regardless the classes have a lot of work and are always keeping me busy.
Tips for prospective students The quarter system is a lot different and faster than semesters, so stay on top of your work and stay focused.

Clubs and Activities Great variety and new programs are coming up every year like the TEDxUCIrvine program
Great for these types of students Lively students looking to make an impact on their college campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Secret.
Bang for the buck If you are active it most definitely is. No one will come and get you tho.
What to do for fun Bike ride, tons of club sports, clubbing, parties, bonfires, dance crews.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is not getting better as of now but there are hopes it will improve. There is a lot of other food options tho including Le Dip and Veggie Grill
Dorm Life Great atmosphere. The only thing that is getting worse year by year is the food but I've hear they will be making some upgrades very soon. The dorms themselves are good condition and are constantly getting renovated (like every 10 years)
Academic Rigor It all depends on major but overall it will be challenging compared to high school.
Tips for prospective students Do not have the mentality this is a backup school. It can be a great school for your future if you take it seriously. I am not even done with my school yet and I already have a variety of job offers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus if very safe. Students do get away with anything and police officers are very strict because they don't have much to do in such a safe city.
Greek Life The ABSOLUTE BEST experience you will ever have in college. All I can say is, GO GREEK!
Clubs and Activities There are over 400 clubs to choose from and the number grows each year. Have a new idea for a club? Gather a few friends and create your own!
Great for these types of students Hard working students who know how to keep their priorities straight, but also like to have fun and enjoy a laid back atmosphere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every fall quarter during zero week, ASUCI puts on the words biggest dodgeball tournament. Needless to say, we break the record every year.
Bang for the buck Each and every year tuition keeps rising and the number of activities for students is dwindling. Take LARC (a student tutoring service) for example, it used to be offered for every class and it is only available for math and chemistry. Very expensive, will be in debt after graduation. Worth it? Hopefully.
What to do for fun It may not seem like it, but there is a lot to do for fun! There are numerous shopping ares around town, like The Spectrum, Fashion Island, and The Market Place. You can go catch a movie with friends, attend a fraternity party, or tan in Newport Beach. But a car is almost essential for a good time.
Food and Dining Food isn't that great, but is sure beats having to cook for yourself. You will learn your second year when you no longer have a meal plan.
Dorm Life Mesa is the way to go. Now there are a lot of housing options to choose from (Mesa, Middle, AV, CV, and Camino) but honestly Mesa Court has the best dorms for first years. I met some of my best friends living in the dorms and I always wish I could go back to being a freshman.
Academic Rigor Courses are very very challenging and in order to do well, you must work hard. It will pay off in the end.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus before you commit! I guarantee you will fall in love with its beauty. Also get involved. It is very easy to find an organization to join because there is a club out there for almost anything. And last but not least, support the athletic teams!
In three sentences UC Irvine is a fabulous university for many reasons. One is its location, two the students, three the professors, and four all of the opportunities available. I have never seconded guessed myself when thinking if I chose the right university.

Clubs and Activities Circle of Fifths is my favorite thing outside of Academics. This acapella group made up of all men is a great social and collaborative music group! I am proud to be a part of it!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Boba stands at the front of the campus are fantastic and are there almost everyday!
What to do for fun Join a club. Also ride a bike or get involved with something like that. Sports are also nice here. The beach is also very close so that could be joined by the bike experience.
Food and Dining I support the food programs at the school along with the choices of dining halls.
Dorm Life The dorm life along with all the living and hospitality is fantastic!
Academic Rigor It is a very rigorous school academically and is completely worth it.
Tips for prospective students The campus is very easy to navigate but it is important still to be adventurous. The competition is steep just to get in so be proud to be an Anteater. The competition does not end however once you get in, and in some senses it becomes more competitive but you can do it.

Go to the rooftops of social science parking structure and look out at the skyline and create paper airplanes to throw off as a competition to see who's gets further. Overall, make sure to hang out with your friends as much as possible!
Food and Dining Dining hall offers an average variety but it's still good to eat at. They also offer healthy options!
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. You get to meet several people if you are social. If you aren't I would highly encourage you to give it a go. You can't go wrong. Just talk to people. It's also where you develop most of your college friendships!
Academic Rigor Classes vary depending on the subject. Overall, everything is do-able and obtaining good or decent grades are pretty average to do. Just stay on top of your work and ask for help. There is also someone willing to help!
Tips for prospective students Make sure to schedule your classes with enough breaks. There's only a ten minute breaks in between classes so don't think jamming all your classes to particular days will do you any good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have to say this is one of the safest campuses i have ever stepped foot on. There are school police that are monitoring very regular and they even offer rides on campus if its to dark for you to walk home alone.
What to do for fun For fun I go work out at the gym that's provided on campus for free for students. I also play on a club basketball team at UC Irvine. They have many of these on campus for different sports. I also go to parties and gatherings with friends.
Food and Dining The food here is great! Its of course not your regular home made food but i enjoyed it. There are many dining halls on campus and also near campus. There are many places to choose from.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great here! I lived in the dorms my first year and i had the best memories there. You get to make great bonds with your roommate's and make long lasting friendships.
Academic Rigor I am currently a bio sci major and i have to say the classes are tough. If you are looking for a school with great professors who definitely challenge you Uc Irvine is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students A tip for prospective students I would urge is for your first year to live in the dorms. I found that it was an easy way to make new friends and build long lasting friendships, which i think is very important in your first year in college.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food around UCI is amazing. The food at UCI is okay
Dorm Life UCI dorming isnt like the ones you see in tv or expect of a college. Dorming at UCI is for freshmen only. The rest of the population lives in on campus apartments or off campus apartments. But the dorming experience is fun none the less because you are in small halls where you will get to live with a close group of 50-80 people compared to being in a huge hall with 1000+ people
Tips for prospective students It goes by so quickly, you really have to jump at every opportunity. If something interests you, do it now because you wont get the chance later.

Clubs and Activities Too many!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have undie-runs. We also have underground tunnels.
What to do for fun Eat! Chill with friends at the beach. Late-night runs to In-N-Out are fun. Making memories with close friends is the best part. Try going to different lakes and parks here!
Food and Dining Food on campus - not so great. Explore the city of Irvine; there are great hole-in-the-wall places here, like Albatros. Try the different ethnic foods you can find around the city!
Dorm Life Freshmen year is significant in making long-time buddies here. It is a lot of fun and very exciting because it's all so new!
Academic Rigor It depends greatly on what you study, but any challenge can be overcome. A class or professor who is deemed easy doesn't always equate to you doing nothing whatsoever. Easy usually means you studied and were present for lectures.
Tips for prospective students Make your time at UCI your college experience. No matter where you go, the satisfaction you'll get from where you are depends on the choices you make, and believing that you can make good out of anything. Make as many friends as you can; network with students, professors, and perhaps the strangers you find here as well. Try out all the different food and drink places here to be well-rounded in Irvine favorites, like Cha for Tea or Lollicup! Enjoy the mornings here when you can; UCI's campus looks gorgeous with all of its trees and gives you a sense of peace. Soak your college time up and enjoy!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is one of the safest cities, especially for a UC. UCI itself is like its own little city blocked off from the rest of society. If you ever feel unsafe, there is a blue call box around every corner that brings you an escort to take you home.
Greek Life One could rush during week zero. It is a fun experience and looks great on resume's!
Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs, fraternities and sororities, and every other kind of organization.
Great for these types of students Studious students who also like to have fun are always welcome!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year we have a giant dodge ball competition that lands us in the Guinness book of records.
Bang for the buck As any UC would be, tuition is quite high, and especially with the incessant increases that have been going on. Good thing there is financial aid!
What to do for fun Shuttles can take you to the beach. There are movies and malls. If you know someone with a car, Knotts Berry and Disneyland are fifteen minutes away.
Food and Dining The good thing is, there are plenty of options! Everywhere you go, from UTC to the housing areas, to the student center, there are plenty of places to eat. Also, not too far, there is the jamboree diamond with even more food to offer!
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. Make sure you get to live in Middle Earth! There are activities and dinners to enjoy with your dorm family. The friends you make there are friends for life.
Academic Rigor Most classes are graded on a curve so one must compete for your grade.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should always visit office hours and make friends with the professors. They are there to help.
In three sentences UCI is a great but extremely competitive school. Your hard work will pay off through the great education and research opportunities that you will get.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Probably one of the safest campus in southern California. There are rarely any crime reports.
Greek Life There is a ton! They are always on Ring Road!
Clubs and Activities There are SO many clubs and activities on campus. Just to give you an idea there is an organization for just about every major, an organization for community service, forensics, communication, dance, and even anime! You can also apply and start your own club!
Great for these types of students Studious students who like to party!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a yearly undie run where a group of students run around campus with nothing except for their underwear.
Bang for the buck Great campus, great classes and professors, but make sure to choose your major carefully as some majors really do not help you get a job!
What to do for fun Not really much around here. I guess the Arc can be fun if you like to work out.
Food and Dining The Anthill Pub is a great place to grab a drink (if you are 21+) and relax between classes. I wrote some of my most amazing term papers there. The student center food court also has an awesome assortment of cheap food chains. A great place for starving students!
Dorm Life There are 2 undergrad dorms- Mesa Court and Middle Earth. Both dorms have amazing food courts! My personal favorite is eating at Pippins! There are tons of dorm activities. Be careful not to party too much or else your GPA may suffer. There is also dorms for second years- Arroyo Vista, Vista Del Campo, and Norte. Vista Del Campo and Norte have a gorgeous pool/bbq area! Arroyo Vista is great because its right next to the gym!
Academic Rigor There are some really difficult professors and really candy easy ones. Do your research about your professors and getting a high GPA is very doable.
Tips for prospective students Be proactive and take advantage of the student career center. Try to get involved in student organizations. Many classmates that landed jobs after graduation were involved in campus organizations and/or had worked during college.
In three sentences UCI in a nutshell is the perfect place for a student who couldn't make it into UCLA but as the same ambitions as those students. Students here believe in the motto work hard, party hard. A great school for a serious student who also likes to have fun!

Bang for the buck One of the best public schools in the country.
What to do for fun Irvine is right in the middle of Orange County. So many things to do like visit Disneyland, Knotts, etc.
Food and Dining Pippen is the best dining hall, but the others are good too. Nothing like a high quality buffet but definitely better than high school food.
Dorm Life Mesa Court is more sociable, Middle Earth is on campus. Both have their benefits and drawbacks.
Academic Rigor A few classes, (ones for GE's), are easy. But expect science and engineering courses to be tough. But that's why the school is ranked so highly in them.
Tips for prospective students -Make sure to adjust to the quarter system -Use all available resources to help accomplish your goals -Put education first

Categories Comments Campus Safety UCI is a very safe campus. No complaints here.
Greek Life I am not involved, but from what I've heard, a lot of fraternities and sororities give out scholarships and really provide a great experience.
Clubs and Activities There are over 400 student organizations on campus, each catering to different interests and majors.
Great for these types of students Students who are willing to work hard and play hard. Science majors pretty much dominate the student population.
Bang for the buck Amazing teachers, and an overall good experience it. It's also a fairly happy campus.
What to do for fun There's a lot of places to see around UCI. Disneyland is pretty close. If shopping is your thing, The Spectrum is close by. Boomers, which is a mini theme park, is also near by. And of course, who can forget the beach!
Food and Dining Brandywine and Pippin at Middle Earth have very good food. Mesa Commons is average food.
Dorm Life I think this depends on how social you are. You have to put yourself out there and talk to people. If you are in your room all day, you're not going to make many friends. Get to know your suite-mates and hall-mates. Some of these friendships will go beyond your college years!
Academic Rigor I am not sure how it works for other majors, but as a Biological Sciences major, I feel very challenged here. Most classes I have taken outside of my major have also prompted me to think critically. Other students I have spoken to agree.
Tips for prospective students UCI's selectivity went from 47% to 35% from last year. The school is more selective now, so I would recommend students to get more involved, maintain at least a 3.5 high school GPA, take challenging courses, and really take the personal statement seriously.
In three sentences UCI provides a student with everything: an amazing academic experience, cultural diversity, a great location and lots of things to do. It is a very safe campus, and also very close to some ideal locations for leisure.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is considered one of safest cities in the United States.
Greek Life There are 47 chapters that comprise the fraternity and sorority community at UC Irvine. The Greek community consists of 26 sororities and 21 fraternities that represent a wide range of ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds. They range from social, and education and career centered fraternities and sororities.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for everything, and it is a great source for networking. For example, there is a Harry Potter Club, Fighting Gamers at UCI, Pre-Dental Society Club, and much more. Also, students can also make their own club if they are interested.
Great for these types of students UCI is great for commuters because it's located next to multiple freeways. The parking and road system inside the university is very easy to navigate by car.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UCI has a rumored underground tunnel that covers the span of the university. UCI also has a unique mascot among the UC system, which is the Anteater. Finally, the ring shape of the university which radiates from Aldrich Park, makes it both appealing and accessible.
Bang for the buck The Career Center provides numerous career preparation for UCI students. Work study is available with excellent pay. In addition, UCI has partnerships with big companies such as Blizzard, Broadcom, and Microsoft companies.
What to do for fun UCI has something for everyone. People who are into sports can go to the ARC (Anteater Recreation Center). Students who like video games and other hobbies can go to the Student Center and find facilities that can accommodate their interest. These include pool tables, ping pong tables, and XBox 360's. Also, students who like to read can go to UCI's numerous libraries that contain the most exhaustive books in Southern California.
Food and Dining Food and dining is clean, accessible, and also offer a lot of variety. My favorite has to be the different type of cuisine that Pippin in Middle Earth offers!
Dorm Life The dorm is located in a very nice, and clean area on campus. They also employ very active resident advisers that inspire dorm residents to join club and activities at UCI. It's a safe, and clean area.
Academic Rigor The classes are very competitive, and it is one of the best universities in California. It provides the same quality as higher ranked universities such as UCLA, and UC Berkeley. Research, especially in medicine, are more accessible to students.
Tips for prospective students It is important to get involved in clubs since this promotes networking. Pick up an internship or be a part of a research group to get involved. Also, establish a good relationship with your professors.
In three sentences UCI is located in an area with a lot of big companies and they have partnerships with UCI. The students have a lot more opportunities to have hands on internships, which is an advantage for graduating students, especially engineering and medical students. Also, the campus is extremely beautiful and well-organized.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Irvine is a place where there is no limitations on what you can do for fun! Joining clubs and fraternities are a great way to get to know people and to hang out at places such as bowling alleys, laser tag, and since it is only a 20 minute drive away, Disneyland!
Food and Dining The dining here offers a wide variety of ethnic foods that are provided on and off campus. Many food and dining locations are very close to the campus itself so it is great for the students who like to save money and walk there themselves!
Dorm Life Everyone is very social and very welcoming. At first glance, everyone is pretty shy but then, as time goes on, your dorm mates grow alongside you, experiencing the new college lifestyle and are in some ways, a new family to you.
Academic Rigor The workload here is very much different from the high school environment even if you were able to take AP courses. Be prepared to study hours a day for even one class but most importantly, have fun while learning!
Tips for prospective students Be yourself and don't be afraid to express yourself. I know that might be said quite often, but college is indeed the best place to show or find one's true identity. I myself, when entering my university, am a very shy person and because of that, regret my actions. Just have fun and join the many various clubs that are available here.
In three sentences Irvine is a very serene place with a great environment. The landscape alone is enough to make you want to stay here. However, the education system here, in my opinion, is fantastic and makes you strive to want to learn more!

Food and Dining The food is tasty but the menu hardly changes, so you get used to eating the same thing every day.
Dorm Life The people are nice.
Academic Rigor A lot of reading. I can't stress this enough. Do the reading.
Tips for prospective students Get used to doing pages and pages of reading for homework. Keep up with classwork and don't fall behind, it'll be hard to make up all the work! Have fun but remember to do your homework too.
In three sentences The students are friendly. There are lots of opportunities to become involved on campus. There is a lot of reading for homework.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is security everywhere and the halls have someone on duty who checks up on them frequently.
Clubs and Activities There is a lot of variety with regard to clubs. Anyone could find a place to fit in.
What to do for fun You can hang out with your hallmates or go to one of the game centers and play games like pool. There are also tons of clubs and sport which host events to go to and party.
Food and Dining It's an all you can eat style dining with good selections. However, the food options do not change that often and can become repetitive. But you can also go to one of the on-campus restaurants and use flexdine (which is part of your meal plan).
Dorm Life You meet friends fast and everyone helps each other out with work. There are also hall activities which are fun.
Academic Rigor The classes are very challenging and require a lot of out of class studying.
Tips for prospective students Apply for the honors program if you can.
In three sentences UCI is a good school with a beatiful campus. It has something for every major and two wonderful libraries. It also has the best Honors program of the UC system.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Extremely safe. I saw a police officer ticketing students (and parents!) for parking illegally in red zones; it was a bit funny--as soon as he wrote a ticket for one person, another person would drive up and park illegally It was quite a sight to see. I'm very glad they enforce the laws--it's important!
Greek Life Haven't heard too much, but I wouldn't join because it's pretty expensive.
Clubs and Activities I haven't had a chance to participate in much since my commute is 3 hours roundtrip, but I have heard that the DIY (Do It Yourself) arts and crafts club is wonderful, the theatre group is very fun, and the Transfer Student Center is wonderful and has a lot to offer.
Great for these types of students UCI is perfect for those who like a quiet environment, like to experience new cultures, who are maybe slightly adorkable or nerdy (and they embrace it!), and who really want to study hard and be successful.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UCI is very into dance crews and they give impromptu performances--very cool to watch and it's definitely a UCI quirk. There is also Aldrich Park, which is a park in the center of campus that is absolutely beautiful (and so peaceful).
Bang for the buck I really hope tuition does not increase 20.4% as people keep saying. If it does, then I'd have to say that it's a wonderful school if you can afford it. Since I'm paying my way, it's very difficult--I work a combo of three part time jobs with hours totaling approximately 15-20 hours a week. Combined with the hiccups in the counseling office, admissions, and financial aid (I think this is in part because I'm a transfer student), then I would say it's at an 85% rating out of 100. My community college had better resources, counseling, admissions, and financial aid offices and I paid one tenth of the price of UCI. And the classes are much shorter than the ones I took at my community college--this has its benefits and not-so-great aspects, but it is getting less instruction time per the dollar amount you pay.
What to do for fun Going into the University Town Center is always fun and it's best place to get frozen yogurt and delicious tea. Also, walking around at the vendor fairs and different booths is really cool--free pita bread samples with amazing hummus and awesome posters for $9 and t-shirts for $8. There are also some art exhibits which are very cool to see since they are interactive. I have not been around the nightlife since my train leaves in the late afternoon, but I've heard that there are lots of very cool things happening such as Shocktoberfest, former President Bill Clinton speaking (I really wanted to see that!), as well as plays from UCI and neighboring schools such as Concordia University.
Food and Dining I have eaten at Starbucks and Jamba Juice. I have twice eaten in the dining hall at two events before I was a student there and it was quite delicious--I had pizza, ceasar salad, icecream, and a cherry Icee both times. It is expensive though.
Dorm Life Nonexistent, but only because I live at home and commute via train and bus.
Academic Rigor I'm an English major, so I speak for their English program--it's not too difficult, but it's not so easy that it's unbearably boring. It's at a great pace--the professors do talk fast because of the limited amount of time, so be prepared! My professors are tough graders, but they are helping make me a better writer. Some classes are easier than others and some are more enjoyable than others, but that is the same at any school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get the right counselor you need--one who will answer your questions and give you the info you need. I had a horrible experience with one of them where they wouldn't do this and, instead, I decided to make an appointment with a different one who has been fantastic. So, don't judge too soon, but if you are not getting what you need, then find someone else who can and will help you. Make at least 1 friend in your classes--it's so nice to have someone to share the same experience with you. Don't be afraid to say, hi to other people--they would like to meet you too! And if you are having problems or are unsure about a professor--talk with the professor in office hours. They are extremely helpful and are able to make things much clearer than in class. That being said, come prepared with questions for them; it will help make the office hour feel a little less awkward. With appointments with anyone--counselor, professor, etc. be over-prepared. Have two copies of everything you might need (if it's too much paper, then have 1 digital and 1 paper copy); I speak from experience--it helps to have these things on hand and it's great if you and the other person can both see something at the same time without having to look over each other's shoulders (and it makes you look super prepared and awesome!).
In three sentences UCI is the essence of America--a true melting pot of different people and studies. Although it took some getting used to as a transfer student, the quarter system goes by fast. Making friends and using the campus resources (different student centers, etc.) are the two most important things to do on this campus, especially since you are paying so much to go there.

Food and Dining Brandywine Commons serves the best food.
Dorm Life I currently live in the Camino del Sol apartments, but I lived in the dorms for SPOP, and I wouldn't mind staying there. It is very nice, and not as small as you would expect it to be.
Academic Rigor It is a lot different from high school because you HAVE to do the studying by yourself and make sure YOU are on top of things. You control your life, your free time, your grade.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to branch out of your comfort zone. Everyone is just as nervous as you are. Embrace the awkwardness.
In three sentences Best school ever! UC Irvine offers several opportunities to get involved and take advantage of. Best decision of my life so far!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is the safest place in America. Our campus is also very safe. Itâ??s well lit, and we have those emergency blue things everywhere. I havenâ??t heard about anyone getting rapped or attacked. We have had our fair share of incidents, but nothing that harmed students. Though like all college campuses, there are thefts.
Greek Life The Greek population is very small. We do have a lot of Frats and Sororities. A lot of them are academic based, and only a few of them have houses. Whatâ??s nice about the greek life is that they have their parties off campus, AND they have shuttles to take people to them.
Clubs and Activities We have a ton of clubs. Pretty much anything you can think of, we have. We also have a lot of martial arts and dance classes at our gym, as well as other recreational sports. You can take archery, fencing, rock climbing, yoga classes, and so much more. We probably have about 12 different kinds of Asian martial arts at our school.
Great for these types of students Hard working. Driven. Arts students. Medical students. Business students. People who are nice, love to learn, and want to have a fun college experience that will ultimately give them a great degree. If youâ??re super into partying, then it probably isnâ??t the best place for you. Irvine (the city) is a pretty low key place.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are these creepy tunnels that run underneath the school. Everyone eventually goes to find them. We have a giant, wonderful park in the middle of the school, called Aldrich Park. Itâ??s very green and filled with trees. It even has a meditation garden. We have a Pub on campus. Itâ??s called the pub. Itâ??s great food, at good prices, and you donâ??t have to be 21 to go in. Itâ??s a tradition that when someone turns 21 they get a free pint of beer.
Bang for the buck Well, this is really a matter of opinion. I think everything is too expensive at UCI, but people havenâ??t been having to drop out due to budget cuts like they have at Berkley. Some of our programs such as Dance, Drama, and Criminology are in the top 5 in the Nation. We have nobel winners as professors, and have a lot of famous speakers come.
What to do for fun There are constantly art shows going on. There are plays, musicals, workshops, improv shows, dance shows, art galleries, and music performances that range from jazz bands and operas, to a cappella groups. Hip Hop groups are really popular on campus. The group Kabba Modern is famous throughout California. Though UCI isnâ??t a party school, there are still plenty of parties and we do have a Greek System. There are a ton of clubs on campus, ranging from tap dancing and helping animals to law and medical associations. Weâ??re also very close to serval beaches, as well as LA and Hollywood. Weâ??re also just a few minuets from an arts center, that has several different theaters. Rock of Ages, Wicked, the famous Russian Ballet, as well as musicians and plays come to this area. There are some clubs and bars in the area, as well.
Food and Dining The Cafes on campus are really good, but the dinning halls arenâ??t. The Mesa Court dining hall really isnâ??t that good. Food that is easy to make in bulk, like soups and casseroles, are good. The Commons in Middle Earth is a lot better.
Dorm Life There are two dorms, Mesa Court and Middle Earth. Mesa â??hallsâ?? are more like houses. You have your own suits, and share one bathroom with several other people of the same sex. Middle Earth halls are named after places in the Lord of the Rings books, but have smaller rooms. Theyâ??re actual halls, too. Dorms can be theme, such as a performing arts hall, a music hall, or a gender variant hall.
Academic Rigor It really depends on your area of interest, and what classes you take. The sciences are extremely competitive, while other classes (such as in Drama) can have a surprisingly heavy course load.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you actually take the time to look into each major, and the school that it is in. For example, the film department isnâ??t production based at all, and Biology is geared heavily towards pre-med. Different schools have different school requirements. For example, in Humanities you have to take a language, even if you took it in high school. And in Social Ecology you have to take 6 or 7 research classes and do actual research.
In three sentences UC Irvine students are intelligent, and kind people. The teachers do actually care about their students, though sometime admin can be hard to handle. Itâ??s not a party school, but their is a lively, and fun culture at UCI if you look for it.

Great for these types of students Great for studious students and if you are going into research.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year there is a world record dodgeball game we always play, reggaefest, and much more.
Bang for the buck Great location, just ten mins from the beach and in terms of what you pay for in tuition I believe UCI tries to make the whole experience pleasant for all.
What to do for fun The beach, hiking, working out, and going to the spectrum.
Food and Dining great choices on campus.
Dorm Life I lived in apartments.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine does challenge its students and has top professors who are currently doing research in their respective fields.
Tips for prospective students Dont come with the expectation that its a party school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safest city in America for years (violent crimes per 100,000)
Great for these types of students Academic yet sociable students.
Bang for the buck All UC's are very expensive, however, Irvine is considered a the most safe and is a wealthy city.
What to do for fun Many opportunities to meet new people and expand your social network with clubs or greek life. Irvine is a very clean and nice city.
Tips for prospective students Don't be too worried about your major. There will be a lot of chances to learn more and change into the major that best suits you. IF you're looking for diversity and a school that has a balanced social and academic life, UC Irvine is the school for you. Not to mention, the campus looks amazing.
In three sentences UC Irvine has many great opportunities for many fields, particularly Science, Law, and Business. Categories Comments Campus Safety UCI is already located in one of the safest cities in America, however there are also many blue emergency stations around campus which you can use.
What to do for fun There aren't many things to do here at UCI. If you want fun, you can ban out with your hallmates or go to the tunnels down at Mesa. You could go to the basketball games or maybe go to a fraternity party or something. It just depends on what you find fun.
Food and Dining Campus food is okay, it's not extremely good and not extremely bad. According to my sources, everyone says that Pippins food tastes the best as opposed to the others. The other on campus restaurants, I haven't tried them yet.. But we do have subway, jamba juice, Starbucks, etc.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty fun, that is only if you get along with your hall mates. Don't get too distracted by the kids who don't study. Sometimes the dorms don't even enforce quiet hours at all, even when others are trying to sleep. If that happens, just call duty line, tell your RA, or ask them nicely to quiet down. The dorm food isn't that great either, everything pretty much tastes the same and I don't think it's very healthy either. Depending on who you live with, the bathroom can either be super clean or super dirty. In my hall, girls leave clumps of hair near the sink and in the shower drain. Why can't they simply pick up after themselves? Plus, it doesn't help that the cleaning lady comes once a day either.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor depends on what you are taking. Usually the more you study, the more you feel ready for the exam regardless of the material. Just make sure you read the textbooks, go to office hours, attend tutoring sessions, etc. Do whatever you can to boost your grade.
Tips for prospective students One of the most important tips is to stay healthy! Remember there is an ARC nearby..use it! It comes with your tuition money anyways. You should always study smart and go to office hours when needed. College consists of little homework and he grades are more based on those exams, so brush up on those test taking skills.
In three sentences UCI is located in one of the safest cities here in America. You can practically walk out in the middle of night with nothing to worry about. The campus life is lively on the weekdays versus the weekends, since everyone goes home. The academic rigor is decent, as I'm only starting out as a freshman so I can't say much about the upper division classes versus the lower division. There are also many clubs here on campus also.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Doesn't get safer than Irvine. There are cops everywhere, and blue-lights in case things really do get dangerous.
Clubs and Activities DO IT! JOIN ONE! The city of Irvine doesn't have much to offer, so this is one of the few outlets for people to really do activities and get involved.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Mitosis plaza next to BS3 1200. Students usually know they can also shake the Mesa bridge by jumping on it in the middle and that there is a building that can project your own voice back to you if you stand in the right spot. Also, there is a taxidermized anteater (Peter!) in the study lounge.
Bang for the buck Tuition hikes suck. Also, Irvine is definitely not the cheapest place to be. Rent can be pretty high if you live close to campus (any of the apartment complexes such as Dartmouth or Stanford), and inexpensive food is hard to come by, aside from fast food. Again, the Albertsons on Campus Drive digs a hole into your wallet, so try to shop at Ralph's on Harvard or Wholesome Choice on Michelson.
What to do for fun Check out Spectrum and go to 85 at Diamond Jamboree, off of Alton and Jamboree. Also, join a club! Admittedly, Irvine isn't the most exciting place to be, so a club's a great way to explore something new! Newport is also close-by if you have a car, and the tidepools can be pretty neat. The Lab at Costa Mesa is a neat hipster place too.
Food and Dining Pippins and Brandywine are great! Mesa is a hit or miss, almost always. Campus has some taco, pasta, and burger places that are all decent but not the cheapest. There are two subways, and are my to-go places for lunch. BC Cavern has some nice happy hour deals too. There's also a Wendy's, Panda Express, and a Wahoo's. Pub's also great.
Dorm Life Really depends on your Resident Adviser. They make or break a dorm-life. Mine was average, and therefore my dorm life was average. Again, you get what you put in. Also, Middle Earth > Mesa. This is coming from someone who lived in Mesa their freshmen year. The closeness to campus and the food alone are worth it. Also, the rumors about whether Mesa or Middle is more party-ish are untrue. You can find parties at either, and you can also find study buddies at either.
Academic Rigor Really depends on your major. Personally, I'm a double major in Criminology and Biological Sciences. I put in about 20-30 hours of study time for Bio every week, and maybe about 1 for Crim. Sadly, my crim GPA is higher than my bio's by nearly a whole point. Be prepared to work hard, give more, and lose out on a lot of social activities if you're a core science major (psych doesn't count at UCI, sorry!). Otherwise, it's pretty smooth sailing if you do your assignments.
Tips for prospective students -If you're looking for the renowned crazy college parties, this isn't the place to find them. It doesn't mean that a good old kickback with your buddies isn't fun, on the other hand. -If you're a core science major; be prepared to be jealous of how much less work other majors need to put in for their 4.0s. -You get what you put in. UCI might not be the biggest nor the best, but it's possibly one of the friendliest. Approach others, and they'll accept you with open arms. -Don't forget to voice your opinions! ASUCI really listens to what you have to say, so say it loud! -If you're going to live off-campus, avoid the apartment complexes near campus if you want to save money. They are incredibly pricy and you could easily be paying for a single elsewhere for a double there. Princeton townhomes is a good pick if you've got roomies lined up. -Bring a car if you can- there's not much around otherwise. -Albertsons on Campus Drive is a rip-off; Ralph's on Harvard is better in every way. For even cheaper, go to Wholesome Choice on Michelson; they even have a 5% UCI student discount! -Don't do a rolling stop. Just don't. Irvine cops are notorious for hiding out and catching people, especially around Arroyo Vista and the intersection between Bridge and Stanford.
In three sentences UC Irvine is a quiet and academic campus. It's easy to hate the campus sometimes for what it is (and what it could have been), but that doesn't mean UC Irvine lacks in opportunity. UC Irvine is definitely home to one of the nicest student bodies and approachable professionals everywhere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UC Irvine is repeatedly ranked among the safest campuses in the nation for a reason.
Greek Life Small greek life but a lot of people join. It's not necessary for a social life though.
Clubs and Activities Lots of varieties - easy to get involved. Just do some research.
Bang for the buck Although it is a public school, it is in Orange County and expenses add up quickly. Off campus apartment rates are steep. I didn't feel as though I was given the financial aid I needed nor were there many scholarship opportunities through the school. On campus jobs were highly competitive and far and few between.
What to do for fun Clubs, sports, and friends.
Food and Dining The dorm food was top notch my freshman year. There are lots of local food places both on campus and off campus that provide for variety on a college student budget.
Dorm Life The dormlife at UC Irvine was the highlight of my freshman year. It is cooperative, interactive, supportive, and most of all fun. RA's are helpful, you make a ton of friends, and are still part of a campus that promotes academic excellence so you can still study and succeed in these living environments.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine academics are pretty competitive as is expected for a school in the top quarter of UC campuses. Academic excellence is expected and encouraged.
Tips for prospective students I would advise prospective students to get involved in the college community early. It is easy to get caught up in academics alone at UC Irvine but the clubs allow students to be more well rounded individuals and provide an opportunity for social networking as well as a balance and outlet.
In three sentences UC Irvine is a researched based university that places a strong emphasis on academics as well as research practices both in class and outside as a personal investment. UC Irvine plays host to hundreds of extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations. It is one of the safest campuses in the nation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is one of the safest cities in the country. Similarly, UCI was just as safe during my time at the university.
What to do for fun Go to the beach, shop at one of the many surrounding malls, take advantage of the proximity of Irvine to LA and San Diego.
Food and Dining Various places to eat on-campus, including the dorm hall cafeterias and food court. Additionally, the nearby University Town Center offers many choices for food and dining.
Dorm Life The dorm rooms ranged from good to great, depending on where you lived. I felt that the 1st year on-campus dorms were good quality, close to campus and had their own cafeterias. The other on-campus housing for non-freshman (i.e. Vista Del Campo) had better quality rooms, but they were not as a close to the university. Additionally, parking was always a hassle no matter where you lived.
Academic Rigor Depends on major (I was in engineering), but I always felt the classes were taught by quality instructors who identified with industry or research at an intimate level. Most classes were challenging in my major, but all professors were fair and honest.
Tips for prospective students Avoid high costs of housing in Irvine by having a car and renting an apartment in surrounding cities of Orange County.
In three sentences Very large and organized campus with many academic options for students of all backgrounds. Great faculty and research opportunities throughout the university. Close to the beach, theme parks, and many shopping areas, located in the safe suburban city of Irvine.

Greek Life If you can make genuine friends without it, then don't join Greek Life, but if you can't, leave that option open.
Great for these types of students Dorky--as in people on Tumblr too much, people that like memes too much, and people that are obsessed with any internet trends. That is what I got a general feel of, at least in my dorm.
Bang for the buck I transferred, but still enjoyed my time there. The best teacher I ever had was Chuck O'Connell for Sociology--that was worth it.
What to do for fun There is the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater there, but that's about it. Have to go to Disneyland for fun. Getting an annual pass should be considered. Not too much to do in Irvine in general, very much a suburb.
Food and Dining Definitely will get sick of Commons food at some point. But I think that can happen anywhere.
Dorm Life Lived in Mesa, a little too far from campus, but still better than Middle Earth. I ended up sweating on my way to class everyday though; we were just about the furthest dorm from campus. Shared bathrooms always had a spider. Extremely hot and stuffy in our room (top floor). Bring a fan! And in general, some people meet really good friends in their dorms and others don't, so be open to Greek Life and other activities.
Academic Rigor HumCore was a lot of work so that was the hardest, but it wasn't dreadful or anything and actually taught me some valuable lessons. My classes in general weren't too hard. Everyone likes studying together (well ahead of time) so that can be motivating for finals.
Tips for prospective students SAT not as important as grades (my SAT was terrible) and other activities, etc. Tour the school first.
In three sentences Recommend joining Greek Life. Bit of a commuter school, tends to be empty on weekends. Friendly people in general.

What to do for fun For fun at UCI there are a lot of things to do besides studying, studying, and studying. As it is colleges, there are parties that are held by fraternities and sororities that you can go to fun fun; however, if your not all that into partying like me, there are always the fun game rooms you can go to and play video games, pool, air hockey, or the hall favorite ping pong. In addition, there is free access to the ARC (Anteater Recreation Center). It is a great place to go work out, go for a swim, beast at the courts; In all, it is a state of the art gym free for UCI students.
Food and Dining Food and dining is very yummy n my tummy! P: Pippins, Brandywine, and Mesa Commons are the three dining commons in UCI that are built to be buffet style. Living in Middle Earth dorms, I have the luxury to have easy access to going to Pippins and Brandywine and their food is great. There is different types of prepared from Asian food to American food. The dining halls are run by professional chefs. The dining halls are very big in which it is a good place for little get to togethers with friends. Meal plan wise, there is the unlimited or 100 block food plan; I was pleased to have the unlimited food plan to where I could swipe in to the dining commons at anytime without worrying about how many meals I have left. Food and dining at UCI is.....well lets just say I actually achieved the freshmen 15 saying.
Dorm Life Dorm life is amazing! You meet different types of people who are easy to get along with and are fun to be around. I currently live in Crickhollow, which I must say is the best hall in UCI dorms of the 2012-2013 school year. Big thanks to our RA Colin for being so great in not only being a resident advisor but also being a mentor to us first years. There several activities at the dorms anywhere from movie and karaoke nights to hall mixer/party. To dorm in UCI is a great experience; Dorm life here makes the transition from high school to college easier and joyful.
Academic Rigor Academically UCI is pretty rigorous like all UC's but it is very manageable. Living in the dorms and making friends in class allows the academic rigor be less rigorous as it sounds. College level academics is a lot different than high school level academics.
Tips for prospective students Socializing and meeting new people is important to have an easier life in college. Break the ice and Pop your bubble. UCI is a new beginning. UCI will be a home away from home. Expect the unexpected. Fun!Fun!FUN!
In three sentences Apply to UCI. Once an Anteater always an Anteater! Anteaters makes the sound zot; ZOT!ZOT!ZOT!

Categories Comments Food and Dining Food is not bad at all. Commons does have its off days but for the most part, they are pretty good with food. Meal system is based on a one swipe, one meal program and for Freshman, your choices are between a 100-meal block plan and an unlimited meal plan. If you eat all the time (or go home a lot), I really suggest the unlimited.
Dorm Life Dorm life is one of the best parts of college. It's such a great way to meet people and connect with those who you would never meet had not you would have been placed in the same dorm hall. Hall activities are a great time to bond with potential college and lasting friends.
Academic Rigor UC Irvine is challenging but not impossible. If you really work hard and by that I mean do your readings, go to class (you'd be surprised how many people skip class) study and take every opportunity to get help when you need it (even when you think you don't), you will be fine. Your grades are really based on you get what you deserve. Work hard and all that work will pay off.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is rated as one of the safest cities in U.S.A. There are very few crimes happened in Irvine. Sometimes the school newspaper will list a crime report and most crimes can fit in a half page.
Clubs and Activities You should definitely join a club or any other activity at UCI. UCI offers a lot of clubs and activities and I am sure you will find one that you are interested in. Since I was in my freshman year, I joined Swing Dance club, Accounting Association, and Intramural Soccer. They were all really fun and I got to meet a lot of new people that have similar interest. The staff who run the clubs are really fun and willing to offer help to their club members. Nevertheless, joining clubs and activities can enhance your commutative skills and the experience you gain can expand your resume.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Apparently, there is a secret UCI Tunnel right outside of Mesa Court. The UCI Tunnel is underground and has many graffiti that were drawn by UCI students.
What to do for fun I would say go to movies and dinner with the halls. Also, I will go to the Anteater Recreation Center with friends and work-out together. If it is possible, you can schedule a date for bonfire at Huntington Beach with your friends and classmates. Everything that you need is really close to campus and I am sure you can find what you want to do for fun.
Food and Dining I heard that Pippin Common used to have fantastic food and taste. However, due to a change of chef and staff members, the quality of food at Pippin Common is not that great anymore. The chef seems to put so much oil in everything he or she cooks; even the breakfast is really oil. Mesa Common has similar quality of food as Pippin Common; but Mesa Common is a better environment to enjoy eating lunch and dinner. Because most people usually go to Pippin Common, I understand that it is difficult for staff to complete their cleaning duties. However, Pippin Common still need an improvement in cleaning and food quality. Nevertheless, out of the three dining halls, I would say I that like Brandywine the most. The quality of food is a little better than Pippin and Mesa. Not only that, the food they made at Brandywine really fits my taste. I really recommend its Spam Musubi and Pasta. The negative part about Brandywine is that it is a bad time to eat lunch during 12 because there will be a long line outside.
Dorm Life I love my dorm life. It is the best experience since I attend college because most of the closest friends I have met in college are from my hall. I am really grateful that UCI has putted me into a hall with these fantastic people. My hall adviser is really nice and excellent in creating events for the hall. I really had a great time in the hall even though UCI gave me a triple room instead of a double. If you apply for Middle Earth, try to apply for a double or single. I lived in a triple last year and it is the smallest room I have ever lived. I don't think preference really matters when you apply for Middle Earth. One of my friends applied for a single and he got a double instead. I applied for a double and got a triple room. Yet, if you got a triple room, don't be frustrated. In my experience, you will probably meet some of your coolest roommates there.
Academic Rigor Honestly, college is so much different than what you expected from high school. There may be a chance that you think you can survive 20 units, which is 5 courses, in college since you have done so in high school. Well, you may be wrong. Depended on your major, some courses in college are much more difficult than high school courses. Unless you are taking all GE courses, I don't suggest taking 5 courses in one quarter. I would say that courses are not difficult as long as you complete your assignments and ask for help when you need it. If you schedule your time well, you can pass all your courses and receive a dean's list at the end of quarter.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend students read the syllabus before attend their classes. Syllabus really helps because it provides all the details and overview of the course. Also, I would recommend students go to office hours if they need help. I personally have gone to office hours when I need help and I manage to pass the classes with As. Nevertheless, I would recommend students meet new people and friends when they live in the hall. Sometimes friends are really helpful because you can form a study group and work on the assignments together.
In three sentences UC Irvine has a really great study and social environment for students to engage their learning skills and to expand their social networks. UCI has really great faculty and staff that will be there to help students to find their career. Nevertheless, because most lecture halls and buildings are surrounding Aldrich Park and located nearby each other, students can easily find their classrooms and professors' offices.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UC Irvine is located in what was ranked the safest city in the nation. Your safety is guaranteed here and criminal acts on the campus is rare. The school has put restrictions on bicycles and skateboards on certain areas on campus to assure pedestrian safety and there are posts where you can call security to escort you if you feel uncomfortable traveling on campus.
Greek Life The Greek Life lacks at UC Irvine. Most of the frats and sororities are similar to one another and there isn't much variety. A lot of them do some serious hazing and it takes up a lot of time.
Clubs and Activities We have a wide variety of clubs, including those that pertain to people's majors, that celebrate many interests and cultures. US Irvine holds lots of events especially during week zero of the Fall quarter and it really helps students get involved and feel at home with the campus.
Great for these types of students UC Irvine is great for all type of students. The environment is friendly and it guarantees you a quality education. If you love to dance I definitely recommend you consider UC Irvine. We have many different dace crews to choose from and your invited to attend any workshop for the dance crews even if you don't actually plan to join. However, UC Irvine does not have any graphic designing or art majors to choose from, so if you are looking into those this is the one time I don't recommend this school for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UC Irvine has a lot of events throughout the year. We have clubs selling food and boba on Ring Mall. We have Shocktoberfest and EDC here every year on campus. These are very popular concerts and many times well known artists play here. We have Soulstice which is a fun event where any student can perform for others on stage. We have a large park in the middle of campus and a lot of time students go here to nap, study, or look for bunnies! We have the tunnels, a very funa experience at night, which takes you underground.
Bang for the buck UC Irvine has everything you need here. You are guaranteed an outstanding education here as long as you are striving to achieve, which really makes the money you spend each year worth it. Books and supplies will be costly, but it is actually less costly than most other UC's and Cal States.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do in the Irvine area especially if you have a car. There is the UTC, stands for University Town Center, with different food shops, a Trader Joe's, movie theater, etc. Nearby is Fashion Island, which is a very beautiful mall and it is fun to visit. The beach is not too far away and it is an easy drive to get there so there is always time on the weekends are after class to go soak up some sun and play in the water.
Food and Dining We don't have a large variety of fast food restaurants on our campus here, but around campus you can find just about anything. The common food is just your average cafeteria like food, but you can always find something you like and on occasion there are outstanding meals.
Dorm Life I currently am living in a dorm here and it has been the greatest experience of my life. You get to know so many new people and UC Irvine's housing has a great sense of community. Everyone is closely knitted and most of us have met friends in or dorms that we will keep for a lifetime. The rooms are a nice size, except the triple might be a little crowded for a few people depending on how much yo bring along with you here.
Academic Rigor Th professors do expect you to always meet your deadlines. It honestly not too much to ask for since they need to keep track of so many students and it should not be their responsibility to keep track of so many different students. Most tests are fair and can be passed as long as you put some time in to study.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you always meet deadlines and constantly check your e-mail for updates. Keep organized and make sure you know when everything needs to be done. Make sure you study and know what you are talking about because there won't be any help on the tests.
In three sentences The campus has a very friendly and welcoming environment. The students and faculty here are for the most part nice and helpful. It is my first year and I have already been able to connect with many others.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is an issue at all at UCI. There are blue lights almost everywhere in case something does happen, however, I never feel in danger walking around at night. Not even when I'm alone.
Greek Life The greek life is nice. Theres a lot of unique rush events and the housing for the greeks are really pretty. It's expensive, but worth it if you can afford it.
Clubs and Activities There are SO many clubs and activities you can do. It ranges from typical leadership clubs (ASUCI) to community service (Circle K) to ethnic clubs (Vietnamese Student Association, Korean American Student Association, Chinese Association) to physical things (Gym called ARC (antereater recreational center) and tennis club. Theres even a chess club or starcraft club.
Great for these types of students It's great for students who aren't the party-crazy type. There are parties and clubbing events going on around campus and in nearby cities, but its not crazy where there's a party going on every night all around campus. If you want to party, you can find it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the cool things about Mesa Court is there is a secret piano room right below the Mesa Parking structure. There are sound proof rooms and a piano in each room to practice in.
Bang for the buck UCI is pretty expensive, however the city itself is a rich city. The area is so peaceful and nice and the food is great. Weather is good, close to the beach. There's a lot of things to do if you want to find it. There's four pretty nice close malls that you can pick from: Crystal Cove, Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum, and South Coast Plaza. Plus, having a car helps because theres a lot more nightlife going on in neighboring cities like Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fountain Valley.
What to do for fun If you're bored, theres activities going on all over campus: intramural sports, clubs, workshops, and other social activities. ASUCI (a leadership club) often hosts movie nights.
Food and Dining Brandywine commons has the best food! Mesa commons and Pippins commons are also good, just not as great. Mesa commons breakfast is the best though.
Dorm Life I personally live in Mesa Court and I love it. The environment is beautiful. It's like living in a small town of your own. Some of the dorms are more set up like hotels and others are more home-y. The newer ones have elevators. Mesa rooms are typically bigger than Middle Earth rooms. I've hear Middle Earth is also very fun. There's a big debate on which dorms are better.
Academic Rigor The classes are hard, however, they have many fun classes as well to fill your GE's. African American Studies is a good one if you're interested in race and racism.
Tips for prospective students Keep your GPA up, get a good SAT/ACT score and write a good personal statement! UCI is upping its standards according to my incoming year (2012/2013 freshmen). Many people who seemed likely to get in did not, and UCI under accepted so they had to accept so many appeals.
In three sentences University of California, Irvine, is definitely a great place to go to school. The environment is nice, the people are friendly, and the weather is great. There are a lot of good restaurants around and the beach is really close as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is easily the safest campus in the state of California. The police force on campus does not mess around. Not to mention that it is in the 2nd safest city in the state of California.
Greek Life The Greek community is very productive, it raises hundred of thousands of dollars for great foundations every year. We have the largest philanthropy on the west coast, Greek Songfest, which allows the community to come together to put on a showcase of shortened musicals and raise money for a foundation of the Executive Councils choice every year.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of clubs and organizations you can join. Enough to cater to every single type of person.
Great for these types of students Great for students that value relationships with people and people that want to make a lot of money in their future careers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a massive park in the center of campus. It really is a sight for sore eyes, especially after a long day of classes.
Bang for the buck Tuition includes hundreds of services and resources to succeed.
What to do for fun The beach is 10 minutes away at max and there is a multitude of things to do in Newport.
Food and Dining There are so many options for food on campus, such as subway, jamba juice, pasta places, Mexican food and many more. The dining halls for freshmen offer a wide variety of food that changes every day.
Dorm Life The residence communities are very helpful in transitioning Freshmen into college life.
Academic Rigor It is a very competitive university and challenges its students to succeed.
Tips for prospective students My best tip for prospective students is to join as many things as possible when you get here. Get involved and narrow down your options to a few that you feel passionate about.
In three sentences UCI is a very student friendly university, namely, it offers an unlimited amount of resources to allow students to succeed in their academic endeavors. The professors are all professionals and respected in their fields study. There are hundreds of clubs and organizations you can join to get involved on campus.

Great for these types of students There are a lot of Asians.
What to do for fun Newport beach is close by!
Food and Dining Commons is a great place to eat! Only thing is I wish it was not so expensive.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the Dorm.
Academic Rigor Classes can be hard and require a great amount of time. I say this because I am an athlete here.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to talk yourself up when applying. Also ask people for help and if you do not understand, ask again. It's what people get paid to do so bug them some more.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a few clubs that are fun to join and participate in, but the surrounding area of Irvine has little to do for fun. But this is up to the person, and one may find fun in places.
Food and Dining Decent enough food for campus, they offer a variety of choices, though some dining halls are better in terms of quality. If you aren't up for dining halls, there are a variety of other places to eat at on campus.
Dorm Life Decent, though some people tend to leave their stuff everywhere in the shared areas and are loud.
Academic Rigor Challenging enough courses, yet still enjoyable if you're interested in the subject.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to take advantage of AP class opportunities if you can, since the credits from the test if you pass let you skip classes, get more units, and open your enrollment window earlier than most.
In three sentences A clean, nice campus that has an overall friendly environment. The activities, such as clubs, are varied and interesting, ranging from a variety of interests and subjects.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The dorm food is pretty good, but make sure not to become dependent on it. Go into the city to try the cuisine, go to the market to make your own dinner, and don't fall into the chasm of the freshmen 15. Go to the gym to burn it off.
Dorm Life A great experience to meet new people and make life long friends. Avoid a single room dorm and don't room with someone you already know, take a chance to get out of your shell and have a new experience.
Academic Rigor It ranks that of UCLA, just because its name is not as prominent as its LA brethren does not mean it is any less exceptional.
Tips for prospective students Don't just stay on campus, explore the city, take in all the wonderful things it offers.
In three sentences UCI isn't only a great school, but provides a great environment to not only study but work in as well. It has some of the latest equipment for student to make use of; it is also continuing to expand, for example its latest edition of a law school to the campus. Beyond that, the city it lies in provides a energetic yet safe community to live in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I can definitely say that UCI is an extremely safe campus. I feel completely comfortable walking across campus at night, even after midnight. Of course, always take a friend to accompany you! There is even a hotline number to call when you feel unsafe to walk back to your home; they campus security will drive you back to your place!
Clubs and Activities There is such an abundance of clubs and groups on campus. There is without a doubt that a prospective student will find their niche in one of them!
Great for these types of students Great for anyone who wants to stay super safe [Irvine is one of the safest cities in America], do research, join dance crews, join the men's volleyball or basketball team, loves boba and enjoys mother nature.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UCI is definitely know for many things. A few are: the green campus, swagman, Ring Road booths/flyers, and much more!
Bang for the buck Irvine is just an expensive place to live. The college itself is expensive too, especially with rates increasing! Make sure to apply for financial aid and scholarships!
What to do for fun There is a good amount of things on campus to do, especially when you're involved in clubs or organizations. ASUCI, the student government, also hosts a few things every year including a Shocktoberfest [a concert], Soulstice [student talent show] and Wayzgoose [club fair]. Off campus, you might need a car to get places!
Food and Dining There is always more than enough food, just remember not to overfeed yourself. After a while, the dorm food became heavy and repetitive, but what else can you expect? It's not dreadfully terrible. You just don't want to eat it every single day!
Dorm Life I absolutely loved loved loved my dorm life. I lived in Middle Earth my first year and they had great community. That's what I really looked for in college: connecting with others who have just entered college. I had no problems bonding with my hall mates that year and we continue to be friends to this day. Not sure what to say about Mesa [the other dorm community], but giving Middle Earth five stars!
Academic Rigor As a double major in International Studies and Psychology and Social Behavior, the classes aren't too rigorous and strenuous. I still have time for extracurricular activities such as clubs and volunteering. A lot of materials are in your books, so make sure to read the assignments!
Tips for prospective students Keep an open mind towards everything in college because you will end up experiencing many new things. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there to meet new people, whether it be students or faculty. Explore explore explore!
In three sentences UCI was not my top school; it was actually my back up school. However, I grew to love my college by keeping an open mind. Zot zot zot, anteater for life!

Food and Dining One of the bad things here at UCI, but once you know the campus pretty well, then you know what to have for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Dorm Life It honestly depends on how you make your dorm life. My dorm life is pretty awesome because I communicate with my hall-mates and my RA.
Academic Rigor The academics is difficult at any college, but UCI pushes you to the limit. It requires a lot of hours of studying and doing homework.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Irvine is the second safest city in the country after all.
Food and Dining There are lots of place on campus where you can buy food whether it is from a club selling or a fast food place like panda express. As for the dorming life, I guess the food depends on the day and where you go to eat out of the 3 dining halls on campus. I'd rank Brandywine, Pippins and then commons.
Dorm Life I loved the dorm life, my hall was very connected with one another and our RA gave us many chances to bond. Me and my roommate were so great together considering we were randoms, people always asked if we knew each other before moving it, though we did run into some conflicts we worked it out. It's really what you make of it though so don't be afraid to meet those that live in your hall other than your roommate.
Academic Rigor Some teachers are better than other but it's mostly on you as a student to adapt and find what works best for you. Teachers try to help you as much as they can but there is a limit. Also the school provides lots of resources for academic help though some charge some fee.
Tips for prospective students Always due assigned readings, I know it's reading and the professor won't know if you did it unless tested but it's really important to do it early and not cram before a test. Join clubs, it's a great way of meeting people. Talk to your professors and TA's they are there to help you.
In three sentences UCI is a beautiful campus as it is built around a park, home of more than 1,000 trees and ducks and bunnies roaming. Campus is very lively during major school hours, around 7 it does start to die down as it is a commuter school. Though I will say it is difficult being around so many Asians as sometimes I feel left out on certain aspects.

What to do for fun UCI has lots of clubs to join which have great activities. There is also many events like concerts, games and just hanging out with the people you meet around campus or places near campus.
Food and Dining There is lots of food all over the campus so when you are tired of one thing you have tons more to choose from.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really fun! You meet such great people who are in the same position as you and you make so many friends.

Bang for the buck Lots of diversity and beautiful people and sights around. The food is awesome. Just be prepared for some more pricey groceries if you don't have a car.
What to do for fun Beach, cycling, basketball, soccer, gym, video games, food, movies. If you like to go to places, and don't really like to exercise, then make sure to have a car to check out the many areas around Irvine!
Food and Dining I've tasted different UC's cooking, and I have to say I like UCI's the best, especially Pippin's.
Dorm Life Dorm life is wonderful! Not only are the dorms near everything, but there are so many fun people and events you can meet through living with other people!
Academic Rigor UCI's academics are just as rigorous as all the other UC's. The difference is the people who are in your classes.
Tips for prospective students Prepare to see lots of people, and make sure not to walk in the bike lane! Ask UCI students about the secret places and famous people around campus for some interesting conversations!
In three sentences One of the newer UC's, UCI is not only well tidied and aesthetic, but also it's growing in popularity, and offers a wide range of majors and classes alongside many clubs and events in which you can meet/bond with amazing people. Moreover, it's situated in the city of Irvine, with lots of beautiful and diverse places (like nearby beaches) and people, and the city is known to have one of the lowest crime rates in California. However, be aware that it is one of the more studious schools with people commuting home over the weekends, so if you are seeking more to party, this school is probably not right for you.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life isn't very big on campus (only 10% of students) however it is a great way to get to know more people and get more involved. Fraternities as well as sororities differ on what each offers, however this is a Greek organization for every person.
Bang for the buck Many things on campus are fairly cheap and there is usually a vendor fair that offers products that are well priced.
What to do for fun The school plans many activities for students to partake in addition to the ones planned by the many dorms. Also, joining an organization helps because many organizations have different kinds of events during the week.
Food and Dining The food on campus isn't very good but there are plenty of fast food restaurants very close to campus as well as grocery stores.
Dorm Life The university does a great job in ensuring a seamless transition from living at home to living on your own. Dorm life is usually very welcoming and friendly.
Academic Rigor The majority of the courses are designed to teach you the material then have you apply it so that you better understand.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to get involved on campus whether it is joining a club or Greek organization or running for some position in the administration. Getting involved is a must in order to meet people and get the best experience.
In three sentences UCI is a very amazing institution that any student can benefit from. Most of the faculty is very knowledgeable and all of them have to do some type of research. In addition to learning in the classroom, the research helps gain a better understanding of subject matters, and students can apply what they learn.
