Teachers can be great, but you must go to class to actually learn. I never thought I'd be skipping classes, but it happens and I learned the hard way that this is NOT smart. Discussions with TAs can be incredibly helpful as well. I had a math class where I learned more from the TA than I did from the Professor, so it definitely helps to go to both to become a successful student at UCSD.

If you're like me and many other UCSD students, you're looking at or attending UCSD because you either 1) did not get into UCLA, UC Berkeley, or your top choice, and/or 2) it is close to the beach. However, on behalf of my peers, I can attest that UCSD is one of the most underrated universities in California. After just finishing my first year here at UCSD, I would never regret choosing UCSD!

Great on Academics, mediocre on campus life, and truly terrible for students with disabilities. Parking for the handicapped is sparse, the transportation programs often make you late to class, and the Office for Students with Disabilities, while mainly staffed with great people, has a lady by the name of April Garrison who is evidently fond of making students obtain thousands of out of pocket dollars of extra testing despite the fact that they have doctors who state that they are in need of assistance. When I told her I did not have that kind of money, she callously suggested that I add to my already crippling student debt and borrow it. Easy for her to say.

Challenging lower division classes that require hard work to pass. Aesthetically pleasing for the most part, however the atmosphere occasionally feels alien and unfriendly. Friendly staff that is willing to help students as long as effort is put in.

I recently took a field trip with my school's CSF here. It was absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I was able to get the opportunity to tour this school because I have already fallen in love with it. The students and the environment here never fail to be welcoming and friendly.

Great campus with lots of opportunities for involvement. Faculty possess high expectations of students yet also provide accessibility for questions. Large campus but a small community atmosphere.

UCSD is a challenging school for most people. Those individuals who come from competitive high schools are better off than everyone else. Be prepared to work hard to catch up to these individuals as well as some of the international students.

From what I've seen on their website and read in their brochures, it seems like the perfect school for what I want to major in, Biomedical Engineering. On U.S. World News Report, it ranked #5 in the whole nation in Biomedical Engineering programs, so I took interest. Another plus would be the fact that it's like ~80 miles from where I currently live.
