Great for these types of students

Leadership students, Athletes, Fine Arts students. There really is everything here!

    Tips for prospective students

Edmond is a beautiful town that is still growing, its a fun place to live.

    Bang for the buck

Its the 3rd largest university in the state of Oklahoma, yet the tuition is so much less than OU or OSU!

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many ways to get involved on campus! There is always something going on also. This makes it a very fun place to be.

    Am learning a lot

The classes here are challenging, but the instructors understand that you have other classes so they don't overload you.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like being social, but aren't concerned with becoming best friends with everyone they see.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to do as many activities as possible to meet people. Having friends will make your college experience much more enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

The price of school is not too expensive for residents, but for students who are from out of state it can get pricey. That being said, the school its self is beautiful and worth the price being paid.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life at University of Central Oklahoma is wonderful. Although the school is largly commuter, it is small enough to make friends who you can see each semester whether in passing or in classes. There are programs and activities that go on on the UCO campus each week that allows for meeting friends and making the most of your college experience. Edmond is also a great town to live in. It's right next to Oklahoma City, so it feels like a big city, but it's small enough not to overwhelm new residents.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Central Oklahoma is a wonderful place to learn. The class sizes are small which makes students able to communicate with teachers easily whenever need be. One thing to keep in mind is to look for the teachers who not only make learning fun, but actually teach the material well. Since you are paying for the classes, you might as well learn while you're in them.

Great for these types of students

This university is a great choice for students who want to take part in leadership opportunities and athletics. It has a growing Forensic Science department, also.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like meeting new people who are very much different from you, but also very much the same, you should choose the University of Central Oklahoma! It is located in Edmond, OK which is a very fast-pace city that is rapidly growing. It is very fun to live here!

    Bang for the buck

This college is rapidly growing. It is the third largest university in the state of Oklahoma. The tuition is not as expensive as OU or OSU. This campus loves to encourage its students to get involved in campus activities, and the staff make sure to let students feel welcomed.

    Am enjoying being here

I love this university. It has a really big blend of ethnicities and I have met some really cool people. I wanted a change. I wanted to be around new people and a new environment. That is why I chose the University of Central Oklahoma over a smaller community college.

    Am learning a lot

It was a bigger transition from high school than what I thought it would be. The instructors' expectations of you are high. I learned very fast that I needed to get into the mindset of being an extremely determined student. I learned that my study skills needed some work because the instructors do not just hand you a good grade. You have to earn it.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to all the other schools here in Oklahoma it is an affortable four year school, and it is closer to home.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being here. I made some new friends, and some of the faculty here, especially in the Multicultural Student Services Office, are good, helpful people who will help any student, and will push their students to succeed.

    Am learning a lot

Yes, I am learning a lot, both inside and outside the classroom. UCO has taught me to be a better person, and to apply myself even more to get the grade I want.

Great for these types of students

The University of Central Oklahoma is ideal for any students. It provides a challenging, yet not overly demanding coursework. Additionally, it has an inviting campus vibe with a multitude of amenities.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus your first year. is the biggest advice I could give a prospective student. Suggest you get a private room with a locking door. Living on campus allows one to become accustomed to the university quickly, as well as introduces you to a large number of could be life-long friends. Parking isn't easy to find for students living on campus or for commuter students. That's an adjustment.

    Bang for the buck

The biggest bang for your buck at UCO is the experience you take away from it. Some of my favorite memories are the football games I performed at, or the campus-wide events that my group would attend. There's never a dull moment on campus if you take the time to talk with the people you meet.

    Am enjoying being here

I love my time spent at UCO; from the classroom, to the city, there's always an inviting atmosphere. Many of the classes most students take are rather small in comparison to OU or OSU. In addition, the ambience of Edmond is friendly and slow-paced, a great place to explore and study.

    Am learning a lot

I have definitely learned a lot about the University of Central Oklahoma, ranging in all aspects of my life. Most importantly, I have learned to communicate better with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Also, intellectually, I have matured as well.

Great for these types of students

UCO is great for students who want an affordable, quality education. It is also not too large, but not too small, so if you come from a smaller town it is a great choice.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved on campus! You will make many great friends!

    Bang for the buck

UCO is a great college at a great price! It has one of the most affordable tuition costs of any other Oklahoma college. You also get a quality education, and professors that care about your education.

    Am enjoying being here

UCO has a great campus. It is a beautiful campus, very clean, everything is very easy to find. Everyone is always willing to help point you in the right direction if you can't find a class or an office that you have to go to. UCO also has many ways to get involved on campus, with many student organizations to choose from.

    Am learning a lot

UCO is a great college with an excellent staff that genuinely cares about your education. The professors are always willing to help you and answer any questions you may have. The class sizes are fairly small, it seems comparable to a high school class size. This allows you to get help with pretty much anything you need help with.

Great for these types of students

I think it's great for pretty much everyone but especially if you're looking for a major in education, you should definitely check this school out.

    Tips for prospective students

I chose UCO because they gave me all the information I needed to know, they were always prepared to help, and I fell in love with the environment.

    Bang for the buck

This is probably one of the best universities I found in Oklahoma for affordability, academics, and athletics.

    Will enjoy being here

I have attended very many campus tours but the landscape of the grounds is gorgeous and the environment is extremely tranquil.

    Will learn a lot

I'm looking to be an art teacher and then a secondary counselor and so far UCO has had the best academic plan for both that I have found.

Great for these types of students

I believe that UCO happens to be the greatest college campus in the state of Oklahoma considering it is the oldest college in the state. They have just about every career in the field offered on campus including, their very own forensics lab, which UCO is the only college in Oklahoma state that has its own forensics program and lab. I encourage many future students to apply for University of Central Oklahoma.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities to do on campus besides staying in the dorm and playing video games all day. Believe it or not, I have not seen so many clubs/organizations on a college campus including many sororities and fraternities. The organizations vary from volunteering for community service to student government.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple places to eat on campus, but only two are used with the meal plan. The other places on campus rely on extra money given for food called, flex. The food is good, one of the restaurants is a buffet and the other one is a sports grill.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is not exactly the greatest housing ever. But, it also depends on the type of housing that you choose to reside in. At UCO, we have many housing options and I chose the cheapest one because I decided to keep my tuition down as much as possible, I knew, that if I were to choose another type of housing, it would boost tuition fees up.

    Academic Rigor

The courses at the moment are not too bad because I am currently taking two remedial classes and the rest are regular classes. As I get farther into the years and the more credits I have under my belt for each semester, I know it will not be an easy experience. What needs to be applied is studying and giving everything to my full extent while doing my work to the best of my ability. I have the motivation for my double major and I strive to do better everyday.

    In three sentences

UCO, is a wonderful college, when it comes to learning experiences and getting to know your career. There are multiple careers to choose from, so many opportunities to get to know the University itself, and its surroundings. The faculty and the students are very helpful and friendly.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. UCO police department are certified officers, not just security. I really love Safe Walk. With this you can call the UCOPD and they will escort you places on campus if you would like. An extra bonus is that they can get cars open for free if you lock yourself out!

    What to do for fun

The Wellness Center is a great place to go. There's a rock wall and fun fitness classes like Zumba. The boat house is cool, too. It's at lake Arcadia and you can kayak and other outdoor activities. There are constantly music and theater performances. There's so much to do on campus I can't list it all!

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is about as average as any campus. The hardest part is making it to the dining places while they are still open.

    Dorm Life

I adore dorm life at UCO! There are so many events to attend and leadership opportunities to be involved with. The resident assistants really want to help you. Each dorm building has a completely different dynamic, making a place for everyone.

    Academic Rigor

You will get from academics what you put into it. Take advantage of the multiple tutoring opportunities! Stay in touch with your professors via email and schedule meetings during their office hours. They really want you to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Manage your time well. Inform yourself on where different offices are. Don't let anyone else tell you what your future should be. Decide it for yourself on your own time.

    In three sentences

I rate UCO very highly for it's Science and Arts programs. The music program is especially wonderful. I also love the campus and various opportunities you can be involved in at UCO and the community.

    Food and Dining

UCO offers a variety of places to eat, with all different types of food. There is the cafeteria which offers Italian, Mexican, American, and of course healthy but then there is the Grill which seems to be more of a restaurant that is located in the campus. The food is great and there is always plenty of it.

    Dorm Life

Oh the dorms, they are an interesting topic and always will be. Dorm life sometimes is not all that it is hyped up to be. For a while I could not wait to live in the dorms because all my friends would be there and I though that I would meet so many more friends...but the was not necessarily true. Although living in the dorms are convenient for already being on campus, the party life is not found in the dorms at all.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at UCO are amazing and help you to grow into a fully developed and professional in whatever course you may choose. The professor are always there if you need help and although the courses may be challenging they are pushing you to become excellent.

    Tips for prospective students

For students who are looking at UCO, I would highly encourage you to take a campus tour and really get to know some of the things that are going on around campus. Another great idea if you know what you are wanting to study is to meet with your major's academic advisor who can give you more information about the courses and how much schooling your major will require.

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma is a great place to meet new people and be in an environment of encouragement in your life. It offers a diversity of students and majors that allow you to follow what ever your dreams of the future may be. UCO offers helpful professors and amazing resources that will help you in your future careers.

Just like any campus, there is always chance for criminal behaviors but overall I feeling pretty safe by being here.

    Greek Life

Not much help here, I'm not a Greek. I do here that they are closer than families though!

    Clubs and Activities

Like I said before, there are always people out, ready to tell you about different clubs, volunteer organizations, and sororities.

Great for these types of students

UCO is especially great for students who aren't really sure what they want to do yet. If you don't have a major and just want to try out a few things without going broke, UCO is the place for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is almost always someone out on the side walk trying to tell you about their organization/ club. Everyone is so involved here.

    Bang for the buck

UCO is one of the best schools in Oklahoma, especially in fields like Forensics, Nursing, and engineering. The quality of education obtained from here is priceless.

    What to do for fun

There are so many clubs and organizations here at UCO! Whether you want to be involved in a sorority or join bowling club, UCO is the right place to go to.

    Food and Dining

Food isn't that great. It is kind of pricy, but it is convenient!

    Dorm Life

A lot of my friends say that the dorms are convenient but they are old and expensive.

    Academic Rigor

While the teachers here have high expectations, they also are willing to bring the course to an understandable level for all students.

    Tips for prospective students

Just keep your grades up and make sure you show up to class and you'll do fine! Teachers will help if you need it too.

    In three sentences

As the third largest school in Oklahoma, I believe UCO is a great school for anyone. There are many diverse groups, cultures and clubs here with a wide variety of useful classes. Also the teachers and counselors go completely out of their way to help the students in their needs.

    International Students

    Bang for the buck

Overall, UCO is a teaching school. If you just want to get your degree, this is a great place to go. But if you want the college parties, social lifestyle, and activities to keep you busy- better choose a different school.

    What to do for fun

The football games are lots of fun to attend. Oklahoma city has a great arts, and music venue. On campus activities are rare.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining isn't the best quality at UCO.

    Dorm Life

Only if you are in athletics the dorms are a great place to live.

    Academic Rigor

The Science and Humanities departments provide some of the toughest classes, and professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in a club, study group, athletic group, or Greek house. These social groups are a big part of having a support system while getting an education.

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma is committed to teaching liberal arts, and equipping students with leadership, Class sizes are small and intimate, and the professors are dedicated to students and passionate about the subjects they teach. If you have a clear career path, UCO is the way to go!

    Campus Safety

I live right by the campus police station and I have never had a scary situation. There are always police driving around campus to help you get home and keep everyone safe, it is almost impossible to not feel protected.

    Greek Life

I am a part of a sorority here and I love it. I never ever thought I would rush and I was not signed up until two days before the start date. Since this campus is small, we do not have as many houses as other universities, but that makes us closer as a whole Greek community.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for every cause and hobby on this campus. From diversity round table to bowling club, we have it all. If there is a club you think should be added that is not already there, you can even create your own!

Great for these types of students

Any type if student that likes to know a lot of people, be involved, or just feel important on a college campus need Central in their life. This school is full of leaders and encouraging people in every corner.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The tradition I am excited to be a part of this year is WinterGlow, a giant Christmas party complete with Santa! There are crafts, snacks, contests, and lots of Christmas lights to celebrate the season. This event also needs a lot of volunteers and is a super fun way to be involved.

    Bang for the buck

Just like every other university, college is expensive. Compared to OU or OSU, we are cheaper, but also smaller. I do not feel like I am bend cheated out of anything though, it is all for a cause.

    What to do for fun

Edmond is a wonderful town with movie theaters and even an elevation place filled with trampolines. Aside from the town fun, Central gives many opportunities for fun all the time including ice skating night, talent shows, murder mystery dinners, dances, and much more.

    Food and Dining

There is nothing better than having a meal plan here, especially if you are a freshman. After class, I could just stop by Buddy's, the cafeteria, and grab a burger and fries or soup and salad.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus in the commons which are like apartments with one of my best friends. We both loved it because we did not have to journey far from campus ever. Having my own bathroom was a plus as well.

    Academic Rigor

All of my classes are fun and challenging. The professors want to be here to better the students. I am also pursuing the leadership minor, which is not offered at most colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not rush into a major as a freshmen here because their are more opportunities offered than one can possible imagine. Take advantage of all the ways to be involved in campus activities.

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma is a wonderful school for people who admire the family-like atmosphere. Everyone from students to faculty are supportive of each individuals journey. They have opportunities for every type of student, so it is easy to be involved.

    Campus Safety

There are police EVERYWHERE! There are also Blue Poles that have buttons on them that you can run to if you ever have an emergency. As soon as you push the button it alerts a police officer and they rush to that location to help you out. I would say since this university is in Edmond (one of the safest cities in the world) you are pretty safe on campus.

    Greek Life

The greeks are ALWAYS busy! I see them doing things on campus everyday! I believe it is an awesome way to get involved on campus if that is what you are looking for.

    Clubs and Activities

If you are looking for leadership clubs, those are every where! There are tons of international clubs here as well. I would say that student council isnt as popular here as at other schools but it exists.

Great for these types of students

UCO offers great opportunities to international students. If you are an american student and look for a business or kinesiology college then I recommend UCO to you. There are so many other opportunities here as well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Actually, my group of American friends and I put on free dinners for the international students every Sunday. The coolest place on campus is the Starbucks. Another place is Brocho lake... Lots of events happen there at night!

    Bang for the buck

I attended OSU for a year and I recommend UCO over my former college every day of the week. At UCO the class are smaller but offer just as much knowledge as OSU. Overall, I would rank UCO higher than the huge college in Stillwater.

    What to do for fun

I hang out with my international friends and play guitar (which they love). Fridays and Saturdays I usually go out with friends and dance. Through the week I visit the Wellness Center and climb on the rock wall.

    Food and Dining

Buddies is one of the most popular things on campus. The food is average but it will keep you satisfied. There are a multitude of restaurants on campus and this is where I spent most of my meal money!

    Dorm Life

I have been in a dorm three times. I was meeting people there and they seemed nice. The building are really nice but they are just crowded with people all the time.

    Academic Rigor

If you go to class, occasionally read your book, and actually do the homework then you will find your classes not as difficult as you think! This university isn't easy. The professors are just amazing at their job and actually care for the students.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not take a huge load of classes your first year! Make an effort to step outside of your comfort zone to meet new people. The more people you know, the more enjoyable your time at UCO will be! The Library is a great place to study. Have fun!

    In three sentences

The University does an excellent job at actively engaging students and getting them to participate in the classroom. UCO is a very lively campus that always has many things happening on campus, this makes campus life enjoyable. The thing that I am impressed the most with is the willingness for the university to get the international students involved, this keeps the negative stigma of internationals only getting an education away.

    What to do for fun

There are several things to do on and off campus that provide entertainment. There are live concerts almost every night at the UCO Jazz Lab, movie theaters, and several parties every week.

    Food and Dining

There are two main places to eat on campus as well as the multitude of fast food restaurants inside of the university center. The food isn't the greatest in the world, but it is satisfying and is definitely enough.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not as bad as people make it out to be. Sometimes it can get kind of noise, but for the most part, it is fairly quiet when I need to study. All of the dorm halls have activities for everyone living there so there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

The general education departments provides a good amount of work. However, they are also very kind and are glad to help you and answer any questions that you may have.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure you know how to manage your time. I do think school work is extremely important, but to have a healthy college experience, one needs to balance school with fun. Try and prioritize your work and get the things that come first, done first.

    Campus Safety

Very safe. The campus offers a safe walk program so that in the evening you can actually call a campus officer and they can walk or drive you to your car.

    Bang for the buck

The price of UCO is incredible. The programs and teachers are well certified and work hard with you all for less than a state school.

    What to do for fun

There are all kinds of things to do for fun. The college is big enough to have its own football team and there are several sports. In addition to that there is a wellness center where you can workout for free, free amenities to students at the local lake and several sororities and fraternities. In addition to the houses there are also several clubs that range from safety and well being to multicultural organizations. You will find something that interests you.

    Food and Dining

Good food, a smaller selection but the food tastes good and isn't to terrible for your health.

    Dorm Life

I have heard that the dorms can be a fun place to live as long as your open to meeting new people and going to hang out. The University is also very open to students who commute to and from the campus. They have many activities in which everyone is involved. However, parking is terrible.

    Academic Rigor

Stay on top of the classes and they shouldn't bog you down. There's not a lot of classwork but the professors do expect you to pull your own weight and read the chapters and complete assignments before the due date.

    Tips for prospective students

When coming here make sure that you have a list. It needs to have everything from what courses you will need to take to reach your degree and the hours you will need to take each semester. Also, check dates for everything. At the University everything is online so make sure that there is a hard copy list of all the important dates; class dropping, enrollment for next semester, when you can accept financial aid and when you need to return rented books, just to name a few.

    In three sentences

The staff are very helpful and encouraging. The facilities are clean and neat and it is easy to find your way around campus. And here at the University you are always welcomed and accepted in the traditional Oklahoman way, with a smiling face and an outstretched hand.

Great for these types of students

I think its a great school for anyone really. It is in town, close to everything, its good for anyone who wants an on campus residence or off campus. There are tons of affordable apartment complexes minutes from the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Upon getting accepted you'll want to meet with an advisor in undergraduate advisement. This will make everything clear and they will give you everything you need to know about enrolling, show you everything you need to do before enrolling, help you if you have any holds and answer all of your questions. I highly recommend going to Orientation, and taking a tour of the campus. Grab your schedule and go hunt down all of your classes before school starts so you won't get lost. Its a decent sized campus!! If your classes are far from each other, rent a bike from the bum-a-bake program. Its free, and will get you to your classes on time!!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is very affordable at UCO. Oklahoma is the easiest place to come to school at because of the low tuition cost. I'm paying for school on my own and my Fasfa covers everything, Tuition, and my books. I am not worried about attending here because I know its within my reach.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is open and gorgeous. There are so many opportunities to get involved around campus. They are always having fun activities, volunteering events, there is even a campus church to get involved with worship and things. Its very clean, and the students that attend here take great pride in our school. (The best part is the campus Starbucks!! ha ha) We have a massive library with 4 stories categorized by subjects and what kind of books you're looking for. There are tons of study nooks around campus that are quiet and comfortable, as well as computer labs in almost every building with copy machines and printers available. If you are a theatre or performance nerd like I am, you will love the theatre on campus. It is beautiful!

    Am learning a lot

As a Music Theatre major, I had every resource I needed here. The class settings were small and I was able to get to know just about everyone in my major and class. There were so many tutoring opportunities for extra help in the tough subjects. The professors were extremely helpful, available when I needed them, and I could reach them by email, phone, the office times were provided. I felt comfortable to speak out in class and ask questions. The students were all friendly and I felt like part of a team during our performances and shows.

Also, make tons of friends and make study groups because they come in handy!! Always be yourself too. You will have a higher self-esteem and find many people who are like you.

    Bang for the buck

The prices here are not all too bad. As the third largest school in Oklahoma, the prices are great! You pretty much get what you paid for. For in-state residents, the cost is pretty cheap, but if you are out-of-state then the cost is a little higher.

    Am enjoying being here

I really love the campus. When I took a tour, I felt at home and new I would love it here. The people are so nice and they make you feel welcome. I also love the small classroom size which helps you have one-on-one time with the professor and to gain a better understanding of a particular subject. It's truly amazing!

Some of the classes have been challenging. I would rate it average.

    Tips for prospective students

Try UCO at Rose for classes that might work with a working schedule. Also, the advisers there are much more helpful and don't require am appointment.

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful. The staff has been incompetent and apathetic. The classes are always full, so you usually get waitlisted, causing your degree to take forever to complete.

I see campus police all the time patrolling the grounds, especially at night, and they're not just looking out for trouble- they even helped me break into my car when I locked my keys in it!

    Clubs and Activities

The band is awesome and full of fun people, be it jazz or concert.

Great for these types of students

    Music.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on on campus. Be it a sports activity. concert, play, or one of the many club sponsored activities, finding something to de besides study is never a problem.

    Food and Dining

The Nigh has really good (although overpriced) food, while Buddy's (the buffet style eatery every student living on campus is required to buy a meal plan to eat at) is pretty... Terrible. Be warned.

    Dorm Life

I myself didn't life in them, but two of my best friends did. Although small with a shared bathroom (in the general Boys and Girls dorms), they are clean and safe.

    Academic Rigor

As a music major, all my classes differ greatly from the norm of students, but the core classes I've taken have been challenging enough to make me think, but not to the point I want to give up. The music classes are awesome!!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to find or come with friends. You will not be successful on your own.

    Food and Dining

UCO has many different dining places. These include a food court, two different starbucks locations, and a dining hall near the dorms.

    Dorm Life

I would recommend living in the dorms for at least your first semester. Living in the dorms can help you get involved, and it eliminates excuses for skipping class like weather, or gas.

    Academic Rigor

UCO has a pretty high academic rigor. They expect you to act like an adult, and to attend class. Most professors do not accept failure.

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS!!! It's so easy to skip when you don't have a parent waking you up and shoving you out the door, or when you don't know anyone on campus. But one class can be the difference between failing, and passing.

    What to do for fun

There really is not a whole lot things to do on campus, I mainly go to OKC to do something.

    Food and Dining

The dining services on campus are one of the very few downfalls this campus has, the food can be absolutely horrible.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at this university all depends on where you are living, if you are in the commons it is pretty good but if you are in central plaza it can be a nightmare.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that academically this campus is very good. Nearly all the professors i have had have been great. There have only been a few that I never want to see again.

    Tips for prospective students

One big tip is to try to order your books online for as cheap as you can get them because they are a bit over priced in the campus bookstore.

    In three sentences

This is an overall great school. It has an amazing forensic science program and a great funeral service department. This school also happens to one of the only universities in the nation with a four year degree program in the funeral services.

    Campus Safety

UCO has a program where if students are taking night classes and they feel uncomfortable walking back to their dorm or car they can call an officer or someone on duty on campus to come with a golf cart and escort them wherever they need to go. Phones are located in all class buildings for them to use for this. I felt very safe because of this and because of the presence of the campus police that remain on campus throughout the night.

    Greek Life

I was never in a sorority but I have been to a sorority and fraternity house before to hang out. They are very welcoming and friendly. UCO isn't completely run by sororities or fraternities so it is definitely okay to not be in one and still fit in.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs from a wide range of subjects. Students can definitely find a club related to their major, or clubs that do volunteer work and are interested in bettering the community/world. There's literally a club for every person, from sailing club to anime to chemistry to film.

Great for these types of students

Unique, down-to-earth, students that are open to diversity, since UCO has a very big international community.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UCO has broncho lake, which is a little lake located on campus with huge fish and geese. The geese wander around campus and sometimes end up on the roof of a building to everyone's surprise. Last year, tiny yellow fluffy baby geese were spotted walking on the sidewalk! Another unusual thing about UCO is it's quidditch team. There are actually teams playing against each other just like on Harry Potter, and they do use broomsticks. Sometimes UCO's team plays against other colleges such as Southwestern. Another fun/odd activity at UCO is zombies vs humans. Zombies run around on campus chasing humans. If they take away their bandana, the human becomes a zombie.

    Bang for the buck

UCO is a relatively cheap college, so it is definitely worth the money paid. A lot of the teachers here are top notch and have at least a Master's degree. UCO offers plenty of resources and help to every student attending, definitely worth it!

    What to do for fun

There are a few volleyball courts on campus as well as basketball. UCO and its many clubs puts on different events throughout the year. One time a magician and a comedian came. Another time an actor came to talk and worship with students. Different kinds of dances were taught at one event with free food. There's constantly something going on you can be a part of. And if you're a student, they're free!

    Food and Dining

The main cafeteria is not too bad. They try new things and it's definitely not cafeteria slob. However, eating there too often got kind of old. The pizza was not very good, and I wondered how someone could mess up pizza! The other dining options were really good though, the Suites Sports Grill and Central Plaze Grill as well as the food court.

    Dorm Life

Each housing option has a unique community around it. All of the different options are nice to live in, yet not the fanciest. Once you live for a semester at one of these places you will be part of a community of college students working towards the same goals.

    Academic Rigor

It does depend on the teacher, but academically UCO is well equipped. If you pick a good teacher, your mind will be opened and you will come to learn a lot more than just the intended curriculum.

    Tips for prospective students

Look up teachers beforehand on ratemyprofessors.com to ensure you're getting the best for your money! College is what you put into it, so if you go out and take advantage of all the resources and opportunities UCO offers you will have a great experience as compared to sitting around waiting for something to happen. Have fun!

    In three sentences

UCO has both great and not so great teachers. Students can learn a lot here and earn a great degree while also having an amazing time if they choose their teachers wisely. The school as a whole is actually very caring toward the students attending and wants each one to succeed.

All of the places to get food on campus have weird hours. If you think you're going to be hungry later, you might as well eat now. There are an adequate number of options in relation to the size of campus, though.

    Dorm Life

The traditional dorms are actually really great. The apartments are definitely worth the money.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are typically willing to work with students when they need extra help.

    Tips for prospective students

Use a professor rating website to make sure you don't get stuck with an awful professor. You get out what you put in for time and effort.

    In three sentences

Unhelpful administrative offices (fin aid, enrollment, advisement, etc.) Nice size: not too big or small. In general the professors are good, but beware because there are some really bad ones.

    Greek Life

I am a sister of the Sigma Kappa sorority and absolutely love it. All the fraternities and sororities here are fantastic. We get involved in a lot of stuff.

Great for these types of students

Energetic, fun, love to get involved, love being around nice people, and love to learn!

    What to do for fun

There are tons of places around campus to hangout! You could go bowling, go to the movies, or even go ice skating! There are also a lot of activities and different organizations on campus to get involved in. For example, sororities and fraternities, biology club, and many others.

    Food and Dining

Meal plans are expensive, but there are many different places to eat on campus and the food is delicious!

    Dorm Life

I live in Central Plaza across the street from the school. I absolutely love it!

    Academic Rigor

College is much harder than high school, but the professors are here for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Carry around a flash drive at all times. Go to every class, even if you do not think it is important to be there. Get to know your professors.

    In three sentences

It has a great learning environment. The professors actually care about the students and like to help them succeed. Student involvement is great and very enjoyable!

    Campus Safety

There have been a couple of incidents on campus this semester, but the professors/staff do their best to try and keep us safe. There are safe-walk phones, call boxes outside, and campus police. One of my professors said Be safe, guys. Always know who's around you, and try to not go anywhere by yourselves. So, use common sense and carry pepper spray.

    Bang for the buck

I was enrolled at OSU, and switched to UCO right before school started. I was amazed at how much less UCO was going to cost me. I still do not think it is cheap, though.

    What to do for fun

UCO has a fabulous Wellness Center. It has excellent equipment. There are so many things a person can do in there, whether it be a rigorous workout or playing a game of basketball. Spending time at the Wellness Center is both fun and healthy (so you don't gain that freshman fifteen).

    Food and Dining

UCO's campus has a lot to offer as far as food goes. I eat on campus about twice a week. My personal favorites are Quiznos and Chick-Fil-A.

    Dorm Life

I don't actually live in a dorm. I live at home and commute. However, if I get to count my own room as my dorm, I love it, and would recommend living at home to anyone.

    Academic Rigor

I have a couple of very tough classes. I never had to study in high school, but I most definitely do now. I struggled with it for awhile, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. College is definitely hard, but it is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to apply and enroll as early as possible. I changed colleges at the last minute, and it was difficult for me to find open classes that fit into my schedule.

    In three sentences

My experience at the University of Central Oklahoma has been a pleasant one thus far. I enjoy my classes and most of my professors. Though UCO is widely underrated, I give it a very high rating and believe it should rank just as high as OSU and OU.

    Academic Rigor

From what I have seen the classes are challenging but fun as well. The teachers seem to really want the best for the students and will help as long as the student needs or wants the help.

    Campus Safety

Your safety is important and UCO makes sure to ensure that everyone is safe. I had a night class that let out after 10pm. I didn't want to walk the campus at night to my dorm so I called the campus police who were more than happy to give me a ride to my dorm room.

    Greek Life

There are several Sororities and Fraternities at UCO. All you have to do is attend Greek week and get information on which is right for you. Attend a meeting or two and be involved [they like that :) ]

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for everyone at UCO! Even a Harry Potter Quidditch team! From a Chess Club ,Native American Student Association, Black Student Association, Asian American Student Association I'm sure you'll find something but if not, you could always create your own club....

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Wake up in Wantland! The event is an all night party for students that offers games, prizes, music and dancing. The party starts at 9pm and ends at 2am. This event is the kick off to spirit week.

    Bang for the buck

UCO is affordable, I believe your education should be your main priority, not who will throw the best frat party of the year. I make straight A's because I put in the work! So I feel like I got a great bang for my buck.

    What to do for fun

If you are coming to school to hang out and party UCO is not the school for you. Talent shows, pageants, guest speakers, basketball and football games are just a few things to do. The annual Rock the Block party or Homecoming activities are usually very entertaining ! There is always something going on but if you don't live on campus or commute to school you may miss out on some of the evening events.

    Food and Dining

The weekends can be a bit frustrating because the food courts and cafeteria close at certain times, often leaving students a bit angry since we are typical up at various times of the night. For this reason the University Commons are the best choice since you have a stove to cook.

    Dorm Life

Campus life is pretty cool, if you live in University Commons you will share an apartment with yourself and three other people. Two people on one side of the apartment will share a bathroom and the same for the two on the other side of the apartment. The Suites are apartment like also, but there are two people to a room and you will share a bathroom with the other people in your suite, so four people will share one bathroom, but two people per room. West Hall is an all girls dorm where you will share a bathroom with the entire floor. Two girls to each room. If you're not into the community bathroom, this isn't where you want to live, although its easier to stay focused (no guys). Murdaugh Hall is the all boys dorm and Central Plaza is co-ed like the Commons and the Suites (each room/apartment will have same sex tenets).

    Academic Rigor

Overall, coursework depending on the class, can be a bit intense and I feel that students are given a large amount of work all at once, but it wouldn't be college if it were easy now would it? Staying on top of reading, homework and studying will help make things a bit easier.

I enjoy riding my bike, rock climbing, paintballing, and snowboarding for fun. I also like to go out to movies, cook, and craft.

    Food and Dining

Buddies, on campus, is a buffet-style cafeteria. The food is tasty and you have many options to choose from, just don't choose too many! UCO is in the middle of Edmond, so there are plenty of places nearby to eat as well!

    Dorm Life

UCO is mainly a commuter school, but if you would like to live on campus, you will have several options and price ranges, like buying concert/sports tickets, you get what you pay for. Cheaper, more traditional housing is in the middle of campus, but lacks the amenities we feel like we are entitled to. The RA's a helpful and the people in Housing and Dining couldn't be more friendly.

    Academic Rigor

There are easy and hard classes/professors anywhere you go. Challenge yourself! get involved in research with a professor, attend conferences, don't be afraid of what your don't know. It is what you make it.

There are so many campus activities that take place throughout the months that are very fun to attend. For example, there are hot air balloon rides coming up around next week. Not only that, but there are other activities sponsored by certain clubs and societies that are so much fun to go to.

    Campus Safety

There haven't been many instances at UCO, but a couple of recent robberies have sparked the campus to implement a safe walk program, so if anyone on campus feels unsure about walking to their car, someone will come pick them up on a golf cart and drive them. If anything goes wrong at UCO, the college is extremely quick to make things right or safer.

    Greek Life

Greek life is medium sized at UCO. If you're going to college solely for Greek Life, I wouldn't necessarily reccomend UCO, but the frats and sororities are very friendly here, and everyone is welcome.

    Clubs and Activities

UCO is a very diverse college because of their strong connections with other countries and emphasis in Study Abroad programs. You can find clubs as specific as the Wizards of Witchcraft and Wizardry Club, or as general as Advertising or Spanish Club.

Great for these types of students

UCO is great for anyone. I don't think it gets enough credit because it is not as prestigious as OU or OSU, but here are the perks: 1. It's very cheap. 2. You can work extremely hard, or you can take your time. There isn't the pressure of sorority / frat 4 year college life...unless you want that! Because they also have a booming Greek community. 3. There are tons of major options. 4. It's a commute friendly college. Decals are cheap compared to other colleges, and there are alot of off campus housing options. Parking is insane the first month, but after the rush of new students, parking is easy to find and abundant.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The top floors of the main Nigh University Center, and Library are super quiet and perfect for studying. The Library also has small museum exhibits on the top floors, so it's a unique place to get away and be alone. I've also found the Administration Building to be a great place to get away from the crowds and get work done.

    Bang for the buck

UCO is cheap, and you will get a degree with either a lot of work, or a fair amount of work. There is something for everyone (young high school grads, single parents), and UCO will work with anyone to help them get their degree. Get a student insight before braving Nursing, Education, or Design, though. Those are tough degrees, and you must work hard to pass.

    What to do for fun

Well, there is always free food somewhere, that's for sure! But I would look off of campus for anything consistently fun, like Downtown OKC's nightlife, and some of the cute coffee shops on Broadway just outside of campus.

    Food and Dining

UCO has a very ride wange of food and dining options from expensive to dirt cheap. They have sided with local restaurants and include local options in the cafeteria, as well as your typical Starbucks and Quiznos. The Meal Plan option for students is also fairly reasonable compared to OU or OSU.

    Dorm Life

I'll give UCO a 3 as well on this because of the very outdated dorms and medium to almost non-existant dorm activities. Living in the dorms at UCO means you make up your own fun, especially after the first month of classes. Besides that, the facilities have been renovated recently in the girl's dorms and are starting to look nicer.

    Academic Rigor

I'm giving UCO a 3 because I feel that all majors are not created equal in this situation. For example: UCO has a tough and challenging Nursing, Education and Design program...but a somewhat lax business school, and easy to get through Communications program. I may be biased because of my major, but this is coming from what I have heard and seen around campus.

    Tips for prospective students

For UCO in general, go into college knowing what you want to do. The counselors aren't the best, so have a plan already set up and let them know in detail how long you want to be in college, what your interests are, etc. Summer school is also a good option for those looking to graduate early.

    In three sentences

UCO has arguably one of the best Graphic Design programs in the region. The program is not only challenging, but the class sizes are very small compared to many colleges. The teachers have fantastic previous work history as well.

    Campus Safety

We have a 24/7 onsite campus police segment. They are readily available whenever you need them for an escort, complaint, or emergency. They are very nice people. They gave me a ride once while it was sleeting outside so I could get to my dorms without having to walk through the bad weather.

    Greek Life

This is a huge part of campus. There are several houses located all along the outskirts of campus. They are a very open group and are very active on campus. There are a variety of different segments to look into when joining a certain fraternity/sorority. The leaders of the group are very pleasant and help you with all your questions and interests in the organization.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities for students of all interests. Whether it is a Human Resources Management club or a Rowing Team. There is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

ALL TYPES!! Whether you are shy or a complete extrovert they have a way of making you feel 100% comfortable on campus. There are so many people on staff to help you with anything you need. From mail box questions to financial aid, to events services and even job searching. This campus is really an all inclusive package for the next four years of your life!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have a zombie vs. Human week where they run around with nerf guns all week and battle to save the human race! Very fun and entertaining to watch as you walk to your 9 AM morning class.

    Bang for the buck

The school is well priced for the In-State residents. I am an out of state and it still isn't the worst I have seen for expenses. However, it is a little pricey if you don't live in Oklahoma. I would still recommend it here, regardless of price.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on around campus. Maybe its a boys versus girls showdown on the volleyball court or a quiet study group for the big chemistry exam. Maybe its team bowling at the bowling alley in town or a group meeting for a charity event. There are so many different activities to participate in. The gym is open for most of the day to workout, shoot hoops or rock climb! Edmond is located on the North side of Oklahoma City so if you want to venture south there are even more activities in Bricktown. Watch a Thunder game, visit the botanical gardens or maybe walk the Arts festival. No matter what your interests are there is always something to do for fun!

    Food and Dining

The food on campus provides a lot of options. Just be sure you know the times the different locations open and close. Some times it is difficult to get food when you have classes or work but for the most part there is always at least one option available to students to eat on campus. There is always a various amount of options ranging from healthy grilled chicken to southern fried goodness! Options are available for everyone!

    Dorm Life

The dorms here have a very active student group that coordinates activities for the entire dorm to participate in. There are also Resident Assistants in every hall to lead activities for their groups. There is a lot of participation. They encourage meeting everyone and help foster the relationships of the room and hall mates. The activities include everything from outdoor sports to movie night slumber parties in the lobby! Very welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. The RA's are also readily available should you need them for an emergency or any unexpected occasion.

    Academic Rigor

The classes here can be challenging. Some are easier than others, as it would be with any other college. There are numerous ways to keep up with your studies such as groups, online study programs like McGraw-Hill learnsmart etc., take advantage of these options and you will do just fine. The academic standards here are the equivalent to most, maybe a little higher. I haven't experienced a class yet where I just couldn't pass or found too difficult to complete.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the study groups in your department. They may seem to take up your free time, but you'll be glad you did when it is time for finals. Go to all the events and activities you can. College is where you make lifelong friends and memories! Join an organization on campus! This helps you meet new people that share the same hobbies and interests as you. Try new things. College is all about experience. Never be afraid to try something new! Step out of your comfort zone, you never know what you'll love doing if you don't try!

    In three sentences

UCO is a welcoming, student friendly institution. Student organizations are in abundance on campus. Find where you fit in and they make your four years on campus a time you'll never forget!

    What to do for fun

There are always activities happening on campus. There are movies, games, choirs, newspaper, theater, sporting events, sororities and fraternities. There are endless things to do at UCO, whether you live on campus or not.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're wanting to go to UCO you'll usually have small classes, but if you were to get into a larger class, make sure to set towards the front. Especially if the teacher has a thick accent, it will make it easier to hear and understand. Also, sometimes parking is ridiculous. Make sure you get to school early enough to get a decent parking spot. Showing up late will just frustrate you. Don't miss too many days of class, this could affect your grades terribly. If you miss too many classes you could get a letter grade dropped. I've learned if you aren't making a very good grade in a class, but you have perfect attendance you can pass that class with a C. I do advise you to try really hard in all your classes! Have fun!

    In three sentences

UCO is a great school to attend. The staff and the students at UCO are some of the friendliest people that I have met. UCO has great activities to join on campus to help you make friends and to get more involved and active with the school.

    Campus Safety

    Campus Security is seen frequently.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is prevalent here, but not as big as other colleges. In some colleges, Greek run the life as in that almost everyone is Greek, and to get into parties you have to be one. At UCO it's not the same. There are ways to have fun with people and others and Greek Life is not the most prevalent thing that people look forward to.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities around the university that pertain to many interests that one might have.

Great for these types of students

Leaders, a lot of clubs and organizations to take part in. Students, a large variety of classes to take, and teachers are very knowledgeable.

    Bang for the buck

A good school that provides a gateway into a larger university if you're going here for Gen. Ed requirements. Gives you the whole college / university feel without the entire cost of attending one.

    What to do for fun

Clubs and Activites, simple as that. There is an Astronomy club that views starts and other nightly sights weekly, and other clubs that might pertain to one's interest. Anime club, soccer club, etc. A lot of them you friends with others, hopefully turning you into a social butterfly!

    Food and Dining

There is a central cafeteria with a generic list of foods you would expect in one, comprising of hamburgs, fries, and other generic foods. However, there are a large amounts of restaurants around the area, including Sushi, Fastfood, and a whole plethora of others.

    Dorm Life

    Did not live in dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not rigorous, but have a highschool feel. The classes are mostly if you attend, you will do decently well, just like in highschool. Some of the classes are more difficult, requiring you to actually put forth with studying practice tests and doing practice reviews, but all in all, most of the teachers do teach generally well, a basic knowledge understanding of the subject but it is up to the student to actually immerse themselves to get a better grasp.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in clubs and activites. From there you will meet a lot of people to build a network of friends. A lot of here are only here for General Education requirements, and do not tend to stick around. You can attend here for G.E. but you can also have a lot of fun and meet a lot of great people.

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma has a distinct taste compared to other colleges that I've been to. The people here seem very disconnected and everyone here just seems to be passing through, there are a lot of exchange students and internationals. A lot of people seem to just come here for the classes, and leave immediately, without soaking up the whole college experience of what you make it.

    Food and Dining

You definitely have to know which places are best on or around campus! Some are better than others!

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorms (West Hall!) at UCO for the first two years of my college experience. It was so fun! You meet a lot of people and there is ALWAYS someone to study with, talk to, or hang out with!

    Academic Rigor

The only academic rigor I've experienced was due to my own lack of knowledge about being able to switch classes. Other than that, I haven't had any bad experiences.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

    What to do for fun

The list of things to do is literally neverending, so find your interests and search the calendar. Chances are, you'll find something that suits you.

    Food and Dining

The food court has several options and they are always quick.

    Dorm Life

I can't honestly say because I live off campus.

    Academic Rigor

I thought I wouldn't be challenged here as opposed to OU or OSU, but I was mistaken. I have been impressed with the curriculum thus far.

    Tips for prospective students

Make you sure you enroll early. If you wait too long, you'll get stuck taking classes at times you don't like and your options are severely limited. Give yourself an entire day for the enrollment process the first time because UCO puts holds on your account and until you have jumped through every hoop, you can't enroll.

UCO is a gorgeous, historically rich campus with endless opportunities. There is always something on the social calendar as well as educational events that inspire students to be great. This campus offers the big college feel while simultaneously giving small campus service.

    Dorm Life

The girls in my dorm had always been so open and involved. The council held monthly meetings to make sure dorm life stayed great. The Resident Assistant students always had their doors open and welcomed students in, as often as possible. We even had study groups. And best of all, 24 hour quiet time during finals week helps everyone do better.

    Academic Rigor

There have been classes that I've had to study all night long for, but when you get a good grade at the end of that exam, you feel so good about yourself. UCO has plenty of tough courses, and the professors can be hard on students, but it has better prepared me for the future. Not only in upper-level classes, but I feel that UCO has prepared me for where my career will be going soon.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in with a positive attitude. The professors will know your name before the end of the first week. I have yet to have a professor that is there for me, to answer any question I have, at any time of the day. If they see you working hard to succeed in their class, they will do what they can to see that your transcript will reflect your work.

Great for these types of students

Spirited students and students that want to have fun, as well as succeed.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other schools, UCO is so cheap. I honestly feel like I can leave school without any student loan or credit card debt, of course I have scholarships.

    What to do for fun

There are usually on-campus activities, and if not, you can always find some new friends on campus. In my dorm, Central Plaza, there's a piano, ping pong tables, and a pool table. You can even get board games and video games from the desk supervisors in the lobby. You can always find something.

    Food and Dining

I like most of the food options on campus, especially since I have a meal plan, but the Food Court gets kind of pricey and Buddy's is iffy. If you don't want to eat on campus, there are plenty of eating options not far off campus, or if you live in the Commons, you're have your own kitchen, so you can cook for yourself.

    Dorm Life

Personally, I don't mind living on campus, but lots of people don't like it. I recommend at least trying it your freshman year and then, if you don't want to keep living on campus, there are apartments EVERYWHERE. If you do live on campus, be as nice to your roomie as possible because there's a lot of talk of roomie revenge.

    Academic Rigor

These classes have pushed me to think differently than I have in high school. Maybe not all of the classes are extremely difficult, but they've changed the way I study and think.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, study hard, and attend all of the on campus events! During finals, if you need a place to sleep, the library is grade-A. However, beware of Buddy's, The food can be questionable. Also, make sure that you never have more than $200 left to pay on your account, or else you can't apply for the next semester.

    In three sentences

UCO is such a great school! School spirit is everywhere and there are always chances to get involved in something. Plus, you're getting a quality education for a fraction of the price of a bunch of other colleges.

I haven't lived in the dorms but my friends have and they said the dorms aren't horrible but they aren't the best quality either.

    Academic Rigor

The classes aren't super easy. You really have to study hard to get A's and B's. It's not impossible but it's not easy either.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't forget to study. Join Greek Life!

    In three sentences

This school is a great place to attend. The profs are amazing and really try to help you. The students are pretty nice and welcoming.

Great school for academics because our classes are smaller so you can have a one on one experience with your professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you don't do an online class your first year without taking it with a friend. Some classes are very challenging without someone to help you out. If you like big school that get hyped up for football games then this is the wrong school for you!

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is spectacular. There is a campus police station located with reasonable distance of each dormitory. Safety procedures are advocated quite often and practiced with practice runs. I feel especially calm during any situation as we're well informed when common knowledge isn't enough.

Great for these types of students

UCO is a great college for those who want something more than a community college, but not looking for the big and grand university that everyone's always talking about,

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is alright, though things are rather bland or unhealthy and repetitive.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great for myself overall. Depending on the dorm you live in, your experience varies. The better the dorm, the greater your experiences.

    Academic Rigor

The courses and professors are nothing short of their stature and challenge students with their vigorous course load without proving to be too much for one to handle.

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma is a great University to attend. The campus is not too big nor too little. A majority of the employees in UCO programs are friendly and helpful. UCO has been a great experience for me so far as the campus organizations have pushed me to go out there and experience the world all the while learning useful life skills.

    Campus Safety

The have people running around almost constantly. Campus security is always around and they have the buildings so close together you can yell for help, especially since it is usually pretty quiet campus. I felt very safe here, and I lived on campus.

    Greek Life

It depends on a lot of factors if you will love it or not. A whole heck of a lot of people are involved in greek life so it can be hard to find someone who is not. If you choose the right one with the right people the next however many years can be heavenly. However, if you choose the wrong one, your life will be hell. I chose the right one but got involved with the wrong people, they are one of the reasons I decided to take a year off of school and transfer. Be cautious and watch who you open up to.

    Clubs and Activities

LOVE how many different organizations there are. And if they don't have one to suite your taste, YOU CAN START YOUR OWN CLUB. OMG! :) How great is that?

Great for these types of students

People who love events and things to do when no class is happening.

    What to do for fun

GET INVOLVED. You will love it. Greek life is kinda important here so if you want to get really involved, but be cautious.

    Food and Dining

Sorry if this is graffic but only go to Buddy's if you are constipated. Taste good at the time but it is not good for you. The Grill is good and works with flex and meal plan for most stuff.

    Dorm Life

It depends on the RA and Hall Director. The dorms are actually pretty great. DO NOT LIVE IN WEST HALL. Horror Stories. Horrible Horror Stories. The Suites are great. Commons are even better, BUT they are expensive.

Little over half the teachers actually care, but the ones that do make up for the ones that don't. USE RATEMYPROFESSOR.COM it will save your life and your grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not listen to your advisor!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!! I have never heard of an advisor actually giving good advise.

    Campus Safety

UCO has a police department that is always around to ensure safety. Since the school is located in a safe suburb, crime is relatively low. However, if you are feeling unsafe walking around at night, SafeWalk is an option. All you do is call the number, and someone from the SafeWalk team will come to you and walk you back to your destination.

    Greek Life

There are five sororities and six fraternities on campus. They all have their own unique personalities. Many of our Greeks are leaders on campus, and they wear their letters with pride. Rush happens at the very beginning of the semester so that people can get right in on the Greek experience. Certain sororities and fraternities also do spring rush for those who want to wait.

    Clubs and Activities

If you have an interest, there is probably a club for you. If not, you have the ability to start one up! We have everything from student government to fandoms anonymous. We have a thriving Greek community and many honor societies. There is an organization for most ethnic groups as well. Volunteerism is a big deal at UCO, and there are service organizations that give scholarships. Getting involved is a great way to enjoy UCO!

Great for these types of students

Great for students who need individual attention from professors and discussion based classes. There is a focus on transformative learning, meaning that instead of pure lecture, a hands-on, interactive approach to learning is given. It's also great for students who value diversity. No matter where you come from, there is a place for you. Many students of different races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, cultures, and interests are UCO Bronchos, and they are accepted as part of the campus family.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year, the Asian American Student Association puts on the Asian Moon Festival. It takes place in September, and it celebrates Asian culture, complete with food, activities, and performances. We also participate in Holi every April. It is an Eastern Indian celebration of the spring, and it involves throwing water balloons and paint powder, kind of like the Color Run. The most interesting location on campus is Old North. Built in 1890, it was the school's original building. It is currently being restored, but some swear that the ghosts of previous classes are still there!

    Bang for the buck

UCO is reasonably priced for all the benefits. Tuition is only about 6,000 per year! With all of the social activities, tutoring resources, free printing, free tax help, among other perks, UCO is a great deal!

    What to do for fun

UCO is in Edmond, Oklahoma, which has been called the Number 1 Perfect Suburb in America. It's a suburb of Oklahoma City, which is only a 20 minute drive away. Restaurants are wonderful in Edmond! There are all of the classic chains such as Applebee's and Chili's, along with local gems such as Flatire Burgers. There are many shops, and the nearest mall is just 15 minutes from campus. There is a movie theater 5 minutes from campus, and UCO will sometimes do free movie nights. In the winter, there is ice skating, and UCO puts on a free skate night once a year. No car? No problem. The school has a programming board that puts on frequent free events. There is usually something going on every week! If you are feeling stir crazy, Oklahoma City's Bricktown District is the hottest entertainment site in the city, featuring, bowling, a movie theater, restaurants, and clubs. You will not run out of things to do!

    Food and Dining

Though the general cafeteria can be hit or miss, there are other places on campus where students can use their meal plans, including Starbucks! There is a food court like you would see in a mall, including Chick-Fil-A, Quiznos, sushi, Chinese food, pizza, and a burger corner. Those options are for Flex dollars, which are extra dollars attached to your meal plan. You can choose how many you want. The daily meal plan is for the cafeteria, and for meal trades, which can be redeemed at the grill and a campus convenience store that sells sandwiches. The cafeteria is buffet style, and there is a gluten free cabinet in there, along with a waffle machine. If the main dish is not so appetizing, those are always options. It's a very flexible plan!

    Dorm Life

Living Central is an excellent idea, especially freshman year. There is a strong sense of community in the dorms, especially in the traditional male and female dorms. Lately, the school has made an effort to improve the wi-fi, as there have been previous difficulties. The Resident Assistants work hard to come up with fun programs to get you out of your dorms and help you make lifelong friends. The community bathrooms in the traditional dorms are a drawback, but well worth it considering the benefits.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes here are an easy grade if you simply do the assigned work and study for tests. There are some professors whose test questions come completely from the slides they show during lectures. There are other classes in which there must be extensive studying, because test questions come from obscure parts of the textbooks. There is about an equal dispersion of both kinds of professors. As a general rule, do the assigned reading and show up to class. An A will not simply be handed to you.

    Tips for prospective students

There are many organizations on campus, so try a few and dive into those you are most passionate about. Campus involvement is very important at Central, and there is a place for you! However, studies come first. The professors are always here to help, but you must not be afraid to ask! Office hours can be daunting, but going to those an really help. There is also a free tutoring center on campus, and the tutors are competent and willing to assist in any way they can. Become a UCO Broncho in every sense and capture this wonderful college experience!

    In three sentences

The University of Central Oklahoma is large enough to suit all kinds of people, and small enough to create a sense of community among students and professors alike. Professors know us by name, and they have office hours every week to ensure understanding. As for student life, we have a welcoming community of friendly students who are always willing to greet you with a smile!

    Food and Dining

There is the Buddy's cafeteria, Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, Flatire Burger, Asian Cusine, and Starbucks. Also there are plenty of dining options across the street from campus.

    Dorm Life

I stayed in the university apartments for one year. There are two and four bedroom options. They are good for students but not the nicest. Good size and location but expensive. Off campus is the way to go. There are plenty of good off campus apartments or rental homes.

    Academic Rigor

Classes were not crazy hard. I did take Chem 1 and it was challenging but nothing that you can't handle. I am sure like all colleges there is a wide ranges of academic rigor.

    In three sentences

UCO is a pretty nice campus but could use some updating in the older buildings like the liberal arts building or Howel Hall (science). Overall, I liked it there. The library always had great hours, on campus housing was pretty nice especially the apartments, and plenty of dining options. A lot of great things about it!

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

If you go at the meal times then the food is pretty good and they also have many choices to choose from.

The dorms are not all that great, quality wise. You will make the most of it if you make friends that live there as well.

    Academic Rigor

it is defiantly not a place where you can slack off at. You will have to study and take the time to do your work in order to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the campus wide activities to learn more people and also try to get to know your professors because it will help you in the long run.

The University of Central Oklahoma is far better than I would have previously expected. There are many campus activities, great people, and also great teachers as well. This is defiantly a campus that deserved to be looked at.
