Around Town

Museums, plays, musicals, sports events, parties on campus, parties off campus, downtown Chicago...you name it, we have it.

The city of Chicago is a quick train or bus ride away! In addition to all of the activities downtown, on campus there is something going on. Whether you're into fraternity parties, theatrical performances, or just hanging out in the house lounge, no one is ever bored here.

Whatever you're looking for, you can find it. We have frat parties, we have drinking, we have football games, and all those classic college endeavors. But we also have Harry Potter trivia tournaments, a cappella performances, improv comedy--and, of course, you can always venture downtown for even more entertainment possibilities.

What fun? It's mostly frat life, which is stunted in and of itself given the academic rigor of the school. Farther from downtown Chicago than anticipated and you never really have time to make the trek into the city.

The opportunities in and around Chicago are limitless. Polish, Mexican, Chinese, Greek and Italian neighborhoods are vibrant. High-end shopping is robustly available downtown. Hyde Park has a variety of restaurants, coffee shops (many local and one Starbucks), and bookshops to check out. The biggest downside to all this is that with so much work to do for class, you may not have time to visit them all in four years.

Go exploring! Don't stay on campus too often. Go roam around the city.

Pretty much any fun activity is available here. Sports, parties, trip into cities, and social events are all held here. There is also an excellent film club.

Campus events are hosted throughout the week by student clubs and organizations, and academic departments. Events range from student theatre, study breaks, dance performances, and guest speakers and performances (recent appearances have been Sleigh Bells, Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and Ludacris), and more. If you are not interested in what campus has to offer, you also have the endless opportunities that the city of Chicago has to offer.

Downtown is only seven miles away and Lake Michigan is less than two miles away. It's incredible.
