“The housing system here is great and really helps you meet new friends and upperclassmen. …”
“The house system forms a perfect foundation for getting to know people and making friends. The dorms are all unique in personality, and you can always switch out to one…”
“The university uses a house system which entails various houses under different names, all of which have their own living room space, mottos, mascots, etc. Although this Harry Potter-esque lifestyle…”
“The College has an extensive dorm life. Each student is placed in a House, which sits together in the dining hall and has personal House traditions such as apple-picking and…”
“There's a house system, and people that like dorm life have found it great.…”
Dining halls are alright.
» Read MoreThere are plenty of options at UC with 3 dining halls within a relatively close distance compared to other schools. The food is decent.
» Read MoreWe occasionally have health code type issues, but all in all the food and dining is pretty good here. There are options for vegans, vegetarians, and people with allergy or faith restricted diets. There are 2 dining halls (as of 2013-14), a food court with national chains, and more coffee shops than you can imagine. There are also two small grocery store type markets on campus. Your meal plan will more than cover all your needs. And if you get tired of campus dining, there are plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from!

» Read MoreThe dining halls are excellent. The food is tasty and there are options for every taste and diet (including halal, vegan, kosher). There are two dining halls (the third is closing in summer 2013) and they are both very good.
» Read MoreThere are varieties of different meals. The dinning hall is open from 7am till 8pm and sometimes from 10pm till 11pm. All freshmen have unlimited meal plans.
» Read MoreThe food is standard college dining hall fare. Dining halls close on Saturdays, which gives students opportunities to broaden their culinary horizons within Hyde Park and the rest of Chicago.
» Read MoreUnsure, so I just put all four.
» Read MoreThe food is not so great. All three dining commons failed health inspections last quarter. The dining commons are deceptively good when serving parents or prospective students as they will try harder for that brief period of time so people won't realize how bad they are.
» Read MoreFood and dining at the University of Chicago is good, but not great. However students are pleased with the many food options they are given, ranging from Mongolian Grill, Kosher, Halal, classic Americana, and more. UChicago Dining has also been working to provide more vegan/vegetarian food offerings, as well as working to be more eco-friendly in its practices.
» Read MoreMany people Go Greek There are a good mix and they can be the hub of friday and saturday night parties.
» Read MoreGreek life is there if you want it, but by no means is it a dominating force on campus. People interact with it in three ways: people who enjoy it join a letter society (these people broadly fit the stereotype of greeks at other schools), others just go to parties and are otherwise unaffiliated, and still others don't interact with it at all and aren't are worse off for focusing on whatever else they do with their time. You do NOT need to be a greek to have a social life here.
» Read MoreThere is some.
» Read More-Not familiar with it-
» Read MoreHa. Ha. There are frats and sororities but let's be real here.
» Read MoreNot officially existent. If you really really care about it, don't come here.
» Read MoreThere is your typical street lined with frat houses that get loud on weekend nights when more than 300 people show up to a themed frat party. In the day, though, Greek life does not have huge visibility.
» Read MoreHilariously pathetic.
» Read MoreIt's definitely there! The great thing about Greek life on campus is that it's not pervasive, and not necessary if you are looking to be social. If you do want to do Greek life, there are over a dozen fraternities and sororities that are very active -- and you'll find that most people in the Greek system are incredibly intelligent.
» Read MoreAbout 10% of students are part of Greek Life, so people who aren't a part DEFINITLEY don't feel left out. Pretty much everyone is invited to most of the parties, as well. Some of the fraternities are co-ed community service fraternities, which I thought was pretty cool. Greek Life at UC is not at all like it would be at your typical state school.
