    Great for these types of students

    Local commuters (or even students from out of the area because of great new student housing!), students who enjoy being in the heart of a big city, those who enjoy people who are a variety of ages and from diverse cultural backgrounds.

    If you think you might enjoy attending one of the nation's premier urban research universities, check out CU Denver! I love the location, campus, academic selection, and diversity this school has to offer. I have been made to feel very welcome and appreciate a faculty that is passionate about what they do.

    Great for these types of students

    The city of Denver is where the majority of the employment opportunity in Colorado is. The University is located ideally for the working student. Students who enjoy an urban environment, and all the restaurants and sporting events in the vicinity will also enjoy attending UCD. Some might be intimidated by the size and the location of the University, others may be attracted to the prospect of undertaking their education with a veil of anonymity, while enjoying what the city of Denver has to offer.
    Tips for prospective students

    I decided to take a First Year Seminar (FYS) course, which helped me. Due to the size of the Aurauria Campus, there are many resources available to students. Though the size has allowed many resources for students, some are difficult to access, or perhaps seem intimidating. The First Year Seminar course helped me to seek out exactly what it is the Campus and the University could offer me, and how to get the most out of it.
    Bang for the buck

    The main reason I decided to attend UCD was the 'bang for the buck' factor. The University of Colorado has some good programs, good history, and some notoriety as well. I commute to campus using public transit, which you get a deal on through UCD by showing your school ID to the driver. Tuition is not as high as other universities of comparable prestige, and alot of the professors have done something in their field. However, tuition tends to get hiked about 10% every year.
    Am enjoying being here

    The campus isn't really my style. It's very crowded, since UCD is only one of three schools which use the campus. Roughly 13,000 people attend UCD and perhaps 30,000 people attend the campus as a whole. I'm not the type of person that enjoys an urban landscape, and UCD is right in the middle of the Denver, with office buildings, sports stadiums, malls, and businesses galore.
    Am learning a lot

    I'll be attending my third semester at UCD this fall, and thus far I've concentrated on getting prerequisite and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences classes out of the way. This approach has gained me knowledge in a broad range of topics. I've been able to 'taste test' various subjects, gain knowledge, and learn about what I'm interested, though sometimes I don't like the inevitable and incessant powerpoint presentation.

    Broke, looking for a good time, want to have more respect for yourself and others around you, want to become a more well rounded person, have a more open minded outlook, like to eat, like to learn, like to stroll (the campus isn't that big) plenty of time to get to class, again broke, like to make friends, like to feel like an adult by teachers, like to get out into the world!
    Tips for prospective students

    Stick with it. The only thing i regret this year is backing out of somethings i shouldn't have. The best way to become a solid college student is to get involved. The rate of drop out students increses when they don't get involved with the UCD community. And if you're going to drop out it's just a waste of money. And trust me if you're a broke college student the thought of losing money makes you want to cry. Just get out there and find something you'll love. The people are great and you're going to find friends that have the same interests as you which will make the adjustment to college a lot easier and a little less scary.

    As i said, for the education i'm getting i should be paying a lot more. The possibilities that they offer are great in the aspect that they can make it work. If you are having a hard time paying for something the college is very willing to help you in anyway they can so you can succeed. It's their primary objective and it's helped so much this year.

    Okay i'm going to school 3 blocks away from the 16th street mall. Of course i'm having fun. The fact that i can go to a movie on the mall or get frozen yourgurt anytime of the day is great! Not only is being downtown a great thing in itself the campus has a ton of stuff to do if your willing to get up and go. The wide variety of programs that they offer are fantastic. It would be hard to not find something you're interested in. The only thing about clubs and activities is fitting them around your schedule. It can be hard sometimes but it's not going to fall into your lap.
    Am learning a lot

    For the price i'm paying they really shouldn't be giving the education i'm receiving. The professors here know what hey are talking about. I mean i've probably learned more in the past semester than i ever did in a year in high school. Not only is the curriculum awesome the professors themselves have really show that they actually care about their students. I fell behind a couple of weeks ago and one of my professors called me and asked if i was doing ok. If there was anything she could do to help me. This spoke to me a lot because the experience i've had with teachers wasn't good at all in high school. They only cared about the grades and just moved us along. The quality i've found at UCD is exceptional.

    I think the school would be great for almost any student. The school though is blossoming in its health sciences, and it has its own medical campus associated with it, a reason why I came. It has a business, social justice, engineering, liberal arts and sciences, and media and technology schools, though I'm sure I'm missing some too. The school offers so much, the only thing it doesn't is culinary arts, which I would have taken for sure if they did!
    Tips for prospective students

    Definitely talk with counselors about your career path. I learned that medical schools don't like to see online classes on transcripts. I took three, so I know I'm not going to take anymore. You can get helpful tips and suggestions to help make school easier, more enjoyable, and more successful.

    Goes along with the last comment. Pretty much everything is included what you pay, so you pay for just whatever extra you do at places you go, but like I said, there are lots of things to do that don't cost money, especially if you don't mind window shopping.

    Mostly for just the general Denver area, it's easy to get around. RTD's, including the light rail and busline, can get you all around downtown and then some. Being a student at this school or other schools on the Auraria campus will give you free access to it, think a little extra to go to DIA, but still. There are always events going on at campus and if you don't want to do those, there is always the 16th street mall.
    Am learning a lot

    I've only taken a few classes so far, mostly English and humanity classes, but I've enjoyed them very much. I had some problems my first semester, but I was able to work with my teachers and still able to push myself to finish off the year strong.

    Again, I cannot comment on this field as a non-traditional student. I find recreation off campus.
    Food and Dining

    Food on campus is pretty abysmal. But if it keeps tuition and fees down (to avoid new construction), I'm fine with the options. Downtown Denver (16th Street Mall), with all its lunch options, is only a few blocks away.
    Dorm Life

    I cannot comment on this topic, as I commute to campus.
    Academic Rigor

    I transferred from the Boulder campus. Contrary to popular belief, the workload is the same. However, most of my classes are smaller than at Boulder; meaning more professor attention.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get to know your fellow students in class, as the commuter-type campus does not provide many social opportunities. Campus resources - like the Learning Resources Center (LRC), of the Math Education Resources Center (MERC Lab) - can be of great assistance to your studies.

    This is a great university for commuting or working (full-time) students. The tuition is reasonable, population is diverse, and the professors are accessible. Overall, a great buy if you live in Denver.

    I like too cook and play lacrosse. I also like to hang out with friends and family.

    They are eating healthier at this college. The food won't make you gain 15 college pounds. You won't have to live of ramen,

    I would like the dorm because if your roommate is in the same class has you; you guys could help eachother. It is also a good source for a study buddy.
    Academic Rigor

    Most of the class rooms are no more than 30 people. So you get more time to ask your teachers for help. Also you can go in for help and they are more than willing to help you.

    If you are already in community College University of Colorado Denver you are almost grantee a spot at this school. But you do need a certain amount of college credits. I think you will enjoy the campus it is mixed with two other colleges.

    The University of Denver I believe is a very good school. It is a pretty big campus with many different types of people. They have very good science programs.

    Tips for prospective students

    The cultural diversity that CU Denver has creates a family atmosphere among both the students and the faculty. CU Denver has quiet lounges for those students who need to get their work done as well as great recreational facilities (like a gym and a swimming pool) for the students who need a break from work or who just want to relax after they've finished their work. CU Denver is not only located at the hearth of Denver, but all the scholarships and tutoring that they offer are amazing for students who need help paying for college and for those students who want to excel in their classes.

    UCD uses a program called blackboard – if you happen to take a class that utilizes it, spend time browsing through it. Many times, you’ll find links that will help you get an A for the class. Blackboard offers the luxury for teacher to be able to post videos, pictures, and comments for every student in the class to access. This program also takes full advantage of the ability to initiate group emails – depending on the class, you may or may not use this accessory. For students deemed tech-savvy, or even simply enjoy using online teacher-student connection programs, this is a school for you.
    Tips for prospective students

    It's beneficial to know that upon registering for classes, one should be aware that even if a class reads “filled,” this doesn’t always necessarily mean you can’t get signed up for the class. By directly confronting the professor of the specific class about the proposed issue, you might be given a seat. Another fact of pinnacle importance: you’re not going to be hunted down to be told everything you need to know to support your wallet. You have to conduct research on your own time to make sure your doing things right. Keep an eye out for due dates, especially if you’re completing applications/forms for financial aid. This includes due dates for turning in your FAFSA and any other forms that go with it, as well as for applying to receive scholarships. Your go-to person will be your advisor. Email, or set up an appointment, which ever works.

    Anyone who's been researching colleges and costs for attending, is aware of the skyrocketing prices colleges are asking for today. UCD pushes away the 60 thousand, 40 thousand, even 20 or 10 thousand dollar tuition costs and gives you the opportunity to attend a prestigious university without ripping a hole in your wallet.

    UCD – a perfect haven for those pursuing a degree in which time posses as an obstacle. This school offers multiple available times in which to take a desired class. Most of the classes are small in size, providing for a better student to professor interaction.
    Am learning a lot

    UCD classrooms offer a flexible curriculum which allows professors to intricate their desired teaching styles with the information needed to be taught to the students. Through this, professors can instruct in a way that they find best at getting the information of the text, into the students' minds. Through multiple classroom scenarios, one is given the opportunity to absorb various teaching styles and different ways to learn – an important aspect to grasp as early as one can for it is useful even outside of the classroom.

    Students majoring in health careers or natural sciences will thrive here. In addition, students who are looking for a different college experience that is not as widely marketed in the media or entertainment scene will find their place at University of Colorado Denver.
    Tips for prospective students

    UCD is not a typical college experience, so if you are looking for a movie-like university life, you might have to look elsewhere. In addition, UCD is stronger in the natural sciences and pre-health career paths, so if you are more interested in fine arts or social sciences, you might want to consider another college.
    Bang for the buck

    Classes are extremely affordable at UCD, especially for in-state students. In addition, many of the resources offered to Community College of Denver or Metropolitan State College of Denver students are available to UCD students, which maximizes the benefits one can receive from student fees.
    Am enjoying being here

    The diversity of students on campus is enjoyable; people from different ethnic backgrounds, age groups, and opinions all mix to form a melting pot of students. I also enjoy the fact that the campus is not a cliche college experience: most of the students commute from Denver or its surrounding cities, meaning that students on campus aren't necessarily absorbed in the best dorm party that weekend or the current roommate drama. However, despite these benefits, I find the prevalent smoking on campus to be a turn-off that only besmirches student pride, school reputation, and the campus itself.
    Am learning a lot

    Many of the professors recognize and target subject matter that was (or is) under-taught in high school. As a result, I learned biology with new eyes and discovered a passion for it that I didn't know was possible because of a poor high school biology curriculum. In addition, the student resources on campus reinforce and encourage student growth in such a way that failing a course is simply out of the question.

    Work hard and keep shooting for your goals. Even if things get hard don't ever stop trying. As hard as it seems some times the teachers want to see you succeed just as much as you want to.

    The school is a little expensive compared to Metro that shares the same campus, but it is a great school.

    I really enjoy the non-traditional campus. It offers a lot of diversity on the campus. I really enjoy meeting new people at school. It is a great place to meet different people. There isn't a lot of student body gatherings but it is still a great school.
    Am learning a lot

    You'll be exposed to a lot of new ways of learning. It is a very cool school. You can learn with a lot of non-traditional learning strategies and it was a blast. There is the few bad teachers but the majority of teachers are really great. There are always many options for getting a hold of your teacher or advisor.

    Pre-Health (Med, Dental, PT, PA, nursing, DO)--this school really caters to the future doctor crowd.
    Tips for prospective students

    Take advantage of the numerous clubs on campus and the school also has an honors program called the University Honors and Leadership Program (UHL) which offers many volunteer opportunities in addition to honors classes and an honors scholarship. Park in the Campus Village lot--$2.50/day and is the cheapest lot on the whole campus.
    Bang for the buck

    While I think education is invaluable and priceless, the tuition does increase every year as a result of lack of state funding to this public institution. I also pay out-of-state so any small tuition increase is definitely not appreciated. That being said, you do get a thorough education despite the cost.
    Am enjoying being here

    The campus is very diverse with a wide representation of many cultures, ethnicities, and religions. The location in downtown Denver is superb, close to many non-chain restaurant options for grabbing food and within close proximity to many places of employment for part-time work students.
    Am learning a lot

    The science departments employ some of the best faculty I have had the opportunity to work with. And by work with, I mean actually work with--they treat you as a colleague, not a subordinate. Many professors understand how much money you are spending just to sit in their classroom so they make the extra effort to ensure you get more than just the basics of any one subject.

    Living on campus is not a far walk and you don't even need a car. I live at home and ride the light rail every day. As long as you get involved in groups, such as the honors program I am a part of, you will enjoy it that much more.

    16th st mall is 2 blocks away, restaurants are everywhere within blocks of the university as well as the typical fast food places that are on campus.
    Dorm Life

    Depends on what living situation you prefer, but with the choice to live on campus, move downtown or stay at home, the university is very accommodating to a student's preferences.
    Academic Rigor

    This depends on what field of study you're considering. As a pre-med student, the demands are high but unlike other university's the class schedules, exams and lectures don't take up as much time. I went to CSU my freshman year and I found that taking chemistry there was much more time consuming and harder to grasp but then after I transferred, the chemistry department was more available to help a student and didn't schedule exams outside of lecture at 7pm on a Thursday (which I found to be very inconvenient at CSU)
    Tips for prospective students

    Going to UCD was the best decision I ever made. As a state resident, I have the option to live at home, on campus or in a dorm so if dorm living isn't an atmosphere a prospective student is looking for, the other options are available. The University is very supportive of students, with review sessions and recitations for classes. Many professors are easy to contact and are very approachable.

    The campus is one of the most efficient in terms of class schedules and use of classroom space. The atmosphere is fast paced and exciting lying in the heart of downtown Denver. I enjoy being on campus everyday with the opportunity to explore the city.

    There are a lot of clubs on campus, and even a movie theater.

    The student center has several restaurants with plenty of variety. There's also a food stand and an Einstein Bros. Finding something to eat is never difficult.

    The classes aren't the most rigorous, but they are interesting and you'll learn a lot.

    Considering the location, the campus is safe! There is a great security presence, badge access to particular locations, bright lighting and the free escorts to your vehicle at late night hours if you desire.
    Clubs and Activities

    There is always something going on here! Between all of the doctoral, masters, PhD programs someone is having a fund raising bake sale, an event outside of class or seminars that you are more than welcome to attend.
    What to do for fun

    Enjoy your family and friends whenever the opportunity presents itself and make the time meaningful.
    Food and Dining

    There are plenty of restaurants that allow a student to grab a quick bite and make it back to class in time for more didactic training. There are also plenty of refrigerators on campus in case a sack lunch is your preference/need.
    Dorm Life

    There is no dorm per-se on the Anschutz Medical Campus. There are many apartments close to the campus location however that seem to afford a wide range of rental prices and amenities.
    Academic Rigor

    The amount of hours that must be dedicated to study is intense. This was a shock to myself upon the first semester I was here. You must maintain focus, sacrifice certain extracurriculars and realize that you are here to be a professional. The sacrifice is well worth the effort!
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not expect to coast through this program nor any other doctoral level degree programs at this school. You must follow your heart for that is the only way that you will be dedicated to do the work, strive for excellence and succeed within this curriculum. If you can say that this is all you can see yourself doing, don't give up, persevere and it will happen for you too.

    The University of Colorado Denver, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is an accredited program for obvious reasons. This school has state of the art equipment and highly renowned professors that give the students an advantage over many other schools. The expectations are set high to ensure that only the most confident professionals exit the program and fulfill health-care careers to protect those who need it most.

    Campus Safety

    Lots of campus security and call boxes. They patrol day and night; they also like to walk the halls. They send out emails through your campus emails about any crimes that have happened or if they are offering self-defense classes, etc... They now offer a text emergency system.For Example: If there were very bad weather conditions or a dangerous situation, then you would receive a text message.
    Great for these types of students

    This school is great for pre-health students. If you are independent and ambitious and want a degree; a higher education, then come here. This is not a school for party people. If you want a challenge and a taste of other cultures, then this a great place to do it. Honestly, I have met a very wide variety of people while here and if you have the determination and desire to be here, there is no reason why you shouldn't succeed.
    Bang for the buck

    This campus has three colleges on it. The University of Colorado Denver, Metro State College (which just got it's accreditation to be declared a University and not just a College) and the Community College of Denver. There are students across from the socioeconomic board, lifestyle, and goals. It is also a hub for international students. What most students love, is the RTD Light Rail, which goes to and around Denver. You pay for a sticker, which is a fraction of the cost for a ticket for every day and a regular pass. Having this saves you a lot of money on parking and you can use it everyday, all day...at any time.. Going here also gets you discounts for other events hosted by the city of Denver.
    What to do for fun

    Go pick a bill board, and I can promise you, that you will find something interesting to do. The gym offers classes for martial arts, sports, dancing and physical training. Clubs at this university are very active within the community. There is always something to do and there is always an option to boredom.
    Food and Dining

    This campus has a lot of venues. In the Tivoli Union building, you have regular restaurants, i.e Taco Bell, Subway, etc.. There is also a mini-market store. In another building you have a sandwich shop that makes your food to order, as well as breakfast and Chick-fil-a. And in the science building, there is a gourmet cafe, which also serves Starbucks. If none of those are to your liking, just go up two streets and you will find the 16th street mall, with a host of restaurants, stores and novelty shops.
    Dorm Life

    I have never lived in their dorm, but like all dorms, you have to live with others and enjoy poor food from the cafeteria.
    Academic Rigor

    This campus has 3 colleges on it and some times the courses you can take here, are taught by a professor from another College and they are usually very nice in their course work and grading. But when you have a UCD professor, they will drill you and make sure that while you are learning the material, you are also performing on a more advanced level. As you advance from freshmen to sophomore and so on, it will become more difficult. By the time you reach your Junior and Senior year you are expected to remember the information from the pre-requisite courses.
    Tips for prospective students

    I would recommend that you come in with a plan. This plan should include how many classes you need to take each semester to graduate on time, whether or not you need to work, who your counselor will be and all the advantages that this University offers. It is not easy and they will treat you like an adult; which includes both privileges and consequences. I would say to get to know your professors, they may be big and mean in the classroom but outside they are a phenomenal source of help, insight and friendship. Being in a location that promotes diversity and change, this campus will be a circus of opportunity.     It is non-existent here. No hazing, no pledges of loyalty to a few letters, none of that messing about comes with this package.

    There is always, constantly, forever, something to do on campus. At least twice a week, festivals and events are being held, which can include live music, abundant street food, shopping tents, performance art, and much more. The list of clubs is endless.

    UCD is located at an historic location. The campus has several very old churches, which serve as interesting architectural features, not to mention the 9th Street Park, which is lined with homes from the 1800s.

    UCD is a phenomenal experience and what you learn here will stay with you forever, in the most positive ways imaginable. It is easy to learn who you are here and focus on your work without getting distracted by the typical things you might otherwise find on other campuses.
    What to do for fun

    Because you're right in the middle of downtown, you can pretty much do anything the city offers -- go to the 24/7 cafe down the street and play chess, go to a movie, go for a walk down the bustling 16th Street Mall and watch street performers.
    Food and Dining

    I give this such a high rating because, although most of the campus's food is offered through fast-food and small food-court restaurants, we have a fantastic cafe with slow-cooked, real food, and we are within walking distance to a number of fantastic cafes and restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    This is actually not applicable to me, since I have never lived in the dorms, but I hear it is not a bad place to be.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes at UCD are thorough, but overall they are not overwhelmingly difficult. You will learn a lot, and a lot of the knowledge you gain will be implemented or used or proven in the real world, in the city that lies just beyond the campus line. There is more practice than theory here.
    Tips for prospective students

    Take a visit, and be sure to look up the fascinating history of the campus, from Golda Meir's influence on the campus to the history behind each of the churches and 9th Street Park. The best thing to do to get an idea of what life is like on UCD is to shadow another student. Be open-minded about what a college experience can/should be.

It is an open forum for those to debate ideas and further their personal viewpoints as well as their academic education.     For fun, we have an open gym, swimming pool, we are located right in the heart of downtown so there are stores close by. There are always club events and activities that are held. Free stuff sometimes.

    The food court are pretty packed during certain times. The food are not bad at all! Dining is really nice for studying and group sessions.
    Dorm Life

    I don't live on campus so I can't really say how the dorms are like. But I have heard that you are more focus on campus, no stress about transportation from home to the campus and the dorms are pretty nice.
    Academic Rigor

    Professors here at the University of Colorado are there to do their job. There are FCQs for each instructors upon their teaching skills, work ethic, and average class grades. The times and days are really manageable.

    When you think that there's no way you could afford a 4-year college, think again. I was one of those who stress about tuition and fees, but the University of Colorado really wants to help their students as best as they can. There are many resources on campus that are there to help.

    Being in a big city like Denver you would think that the campus might be a little unsafe. But UCD utilizes the blue light system where if at any time you feel unsafe, you can find the nearest blue light and security will be there in a minute or so. Another thing that UCD does to ensure the safety of their students is they give them the option of calling security and asking them a ride to their dorms or anywhere within a certain distance away from campus. I think the only unsafe thing about UCD is that the dorms are two blocks away from campus so it might be scary walking back to the dorms late at night.
    Clubs and Activities

    UCD has a lot of clubs, all which are diverse and unique in their own way, but they don't have a lot of sports. In fact they have none. Although it's kind of a downer, UCD does offer a lot of extracurricular activities to keep you busy with.
    Great for these types of students

    I think UCD is great for the kinds of students who like to get involved in clubs and who are willing to live in the city. Not a lot of people can live in the city everyday and being that UCD is located in the heart of Denver, you have to be willing to work with the hustle and bustle of Denver.

    One unique location on campus is the Tivoli. It's a retired brewery and it now homes our student union where you can find the UCD bookstore and computer labs. Sometimes, they host events there like speakers or conferences..

    UCD is great when it comes to its pricing! It was actually cheaper for me to go here then to stay home and go to one of the major universities in Hawaii.

    I like how you can get food not only by the dorms but also throughout campus. You can use your fast cash card for when you need a bagel or a coffee while on campus in a pinch!

    OMG. By far the BEST dorms I've seen out of all the colleges I've visited. The rooms are beautiful! The dorms are in close proximity to public transportation and it gives off a modern kickback vibe! Another perk about dorm life is if you're a Denver Bound scholarship student you are put on the same floor as other scholarship students and you can even room with students who have similar majors to you.
    Academic Rigor

    Being a Denver Bound student I have to upkeep a 3.5 GPA to keep my scholarship money. Although getting a 3.5 in high school was not difficult at all, knowing that now I'm in college keeping that high of a GPA is going to be difficult so I know when it comes to being a scholarship student I will have a pretty rigorous 4 years!
    Tips for prospective students

    Either do really well on the SAT/ACTs or do well in school because if you get accepted and you're an out-of-state student, then you are eligible for becoming a Denver Bound scholarship student!

    an auraria campus police car can be seen driving around or parked outside somewhere around campus just about every day. the auraria police “station” is located inside the tivoli. there are several “blue light poles” spread across the campus, where you can press a button and connect to the police and for the students who don’t feel comfortable walking to and from cva in the dark of the night, a “night rider” service is available. also, at times, the chief of the ucd police department will send emails about important safety information to all the students.
    Clubs and Activities

    cu denver is cheaper than du, but still quite expensive. in fact, it is the most expensive school out of the three on the auraria campus. but, financial aid is offered so it's possible to afford it.
    What to do for fun

    you can go to the many different activities that take place on campus just about every day. if you would like, you can play pool or arcade games at sigi's in the tivoli, you can see a movie on campus in the starz building or you can go downtown to the united artist theater, or you can go shopping along the 16th street mall. since, ucd is within walking distance of the pepsi center, sports authority field at mile high stadium, and elitch's, ucd will sometimes schedule events for students to see the denver broncos, the denver nuggets, the colorado avalanche, or enjoy some time at the amusement park! on campus, there is a building called the tivoli student union. inside, there are resources for all three schools including ucd’s career center, the office of student life, the auraria bookstore, and a few computer labs. there are also places to study quietly, talk and hang out with friends, and places go to sleep. in addition to these, there are rooms where events are held including the cu freshman 411, as mentioned before. or if you are looking for a nice quiet place to study and get work done, try going to the library!
    Food and Dining

    there are a vast number of places to eat! in the food court area of the tivoli, there is a mcdonald’s express, a taco bell, a subway, a wok and roll (japanese food), and an alfresco greens (a sandwich and salad restaurant). on the second floor, you can find pete’s arena a.k.a. “the pizza place”, cinnabon, and quick zone, which is basically a mini convenience store. on campus in the other direction, there is an einstein’s bagels where those who live in the dorms can use the cards that they receive as part of their meal plan (the cards can also be used at quick zone and pete’s arena). students can eat in the cafeterias located in the north classroom building or cva if they’d like to also. not only are there places to eat on campus, being downtown means there are a ton of places to eat off-campus too! there are a lot of different restaurants around and on 16th street mall such as chipotle, qdoba mexican grill, starbucks, arby’s, smashburger, quiznos, and chili’s. you can take the light rail, the rtd, the mall ride, or you can just walk to any of these restaurants! sometimes, you might even be able to buy food from the different food trucks that come around during certain events or you can participate in activities to get free food (mostly pizza). plus, you can always buy something from the vending machines!
    Dorm Life

    the dorms at ucd are known as campus village at auraria or cva. all students under the age of 21 are required to live in the dorms, except if they fill out an exemption form saying that they will be living with their parents or legal guardians, they’re married or a parent, or they fit any of the other exemptions listed on the form. campus village is a partly blue and goldish building about three or four blocks from the campus itself, which to some doesn’t make sense. it’s a bit of a walk to go from the buildings where classes are to campus village so it’s not very convenient in that way. but, the building is not very far from sports authority field at mile high stadium (formerly invesco field) and elitch’s. each “suite-style” dorm room consists of two bathrooms, two bedrooms, and a sort of living room/kitchenette combination connecting the bedrooms together. each suite has four students; two in each bedroom, so yes, you do have to have a roommate. before moving into the dorms, you fill out a questionnaire that will be used to match you up with someone who has similar responses to be your roommate. cva includes a fitness center, a cafeteria, a study room, a laundry room, a computer lab and printing area, and several other “amenities”. according to a flyer mailed to students, ucd’s first year rates for 2011-2012 are between $4,945 and $5,045 per semester for the room and dining plans, so if you’d like to save some money and you don’t mind living at home, you can. just remember to fill out the exemption form. to learn more about cva (floor plans, dining, rates, etc) you can visit http://www.campusvillageliving.com.
    Academic Rigor

    ucd offers a bunch of different classes and has many different areas that you can major in. most of the professors that i've had and met are nice and have reasonable expectations. some of the classes are harder than others, but as long as you try hard you should be able to pass them. if you do find yourself becoming confused or falling behind, you can talk to the professors during their office hours and most of them also make themselves available before and after class or by email. you can get help through the tutoring center too. in fact, ucd offers supplemental instruction (si) sessions for classes that are considered “historically difficult”, meaning many students have struggled in those classes in the past. there are also one-on-one tutoring by appointment and open, walk-in sessions. sometimes the work load can get a bit overwhelming, but with a certain set of classes being mondays and wednesdays and another set being tuesdays and thursdays, you have more than one night to complete it. you just need to manage your time wisely (there is a workshop that can give you some tips on how to do this also).
    Tips for prospective students

    1) take advantage of ucd's many useful resources, including: the career center, the writing center, the learning resources center, the advising offices, and more. these places offer things like tutoring, help with deciding a major, help with improving your writing skills, and help with picking classes. 2) if you are a first-generation student or come from a low-income family, think about joining the trio program. the trio program has peer mentors who can help you and give you advise, it has staff members who can answer your questions or point you in the direction of someone who can better help you, and it has a small computer lab where you can quietly work on homework or print papers (for free). it’s also a good place if you just want to sit and talk. 3) there are many activities and participation opportunities that go on at ucd almost every day. if you have some free time try to go to them. there are concerts, volunteer fairs, career fairs, bible studies, and other fun and academic things to do! if you want, go to the “freshman 411” where you can meet other freshman, learn about the different resources available for you to use, and eat free food! 4) i advise you to take a first year seminar course during your first semester because it helps make the transition from high school to college easier. there are at least 18 of them to choose from. the class sizes are small, all your classmates are freshman like you, and you go to workshops and events that will help you throughout college. don’t worry. as a college freshman, by the end of your first semester you should be able to better understand how college works. check out the website: www.ucdenver.edu.

    auraria campus has its own police department and usually has a cop situated on the side streets through out the campus. there are emergency stations to call for help spread throughout. the university also offers the night rider and access vans to transport you to any part of the campus after night falls. the access van is available to transport you if your are disabled or injured.

    auraria campus has a free speech zone where, with permission anyone can hold a rally, speech or protest. the campus is also a popular political zone for visiting government officials to speak, even president obama has spoken and this is open to students. also 7th street is an old row of homes that houses different departments for the three colleges. they are kept up and a great historical experience to enjoy year round.

    being in the heart of denver your choice of food and dining is endless. the tivoli center has fast food mini restaurants on campus. there is also a mini convenience store, einstein bagels and various starbucks authorized carts.

    cu denver offers 2 options. to stay on campus at the dorm rooms provided or at an additional facility that complies with the university itself. campus village is very modern, 5 minutes walking to campus, and different living options. there are 4 floors and each floor is co-ed but rooms are gender specific. an ra is assigned to each floor and they are the ones who promote community interactions.

    cu denver has smaller classes so you have the opportunity to attain more academic help. in saying this the university has gpa guideline and requires a bit more of core requirements. professors usually expect college level writing and comprehension skills. a must is attendance!

    be sure to research the program or area you want to study. the more you educate yourself about cu denver the greater your experience. included in your tuition is the rtd program, this lets your ride any rtd affiliated transportation free of charge for each semester you attend. this allows you to choose a less costly way to campus.

    UC Denver shares many of its facilities (including the campus apartments) with both the Community College of Denver and Metro State College. It makes the campus feel very crowded and very impersonal. I didn't like this at all - and it was one of the main reasons I decided not to go to school here.

    There does not appear to be much in the way of student programming (concerts, movies, parties, etc.) - at least not when compared to the other universities I'm considering. Tuition is comparable to other Colorado universities. Housing is considerably more expensive.
    What to do for fun

    Tons of activities in Downtown Denver within an easy walk from campus - Coors Field, Elitch's, Pepsi Center, Aquarium.
    Food and Dining

    Nice dining hall located in the apartment complex. Did not have a chance to sample the food though - so can't comment on that.

    First year students are required to live in the campus apartments. Apartments are a long walk from the main campus and are very expensive compared to those at other Colorado universities. These apartments are also used by students from the nearby community college and also from Metro State. (No sense of identity as a UCD student if you're living there.)

    Don't expect a lot of communication from UC Denver after you apply. Of the four universities I'm considering, they were the worst about communication.

    Classes are too hard. If needed, go to the professor for help or even the TA if there is one. If you are a tiny bit struggling, do not be afraid to ask for help.

    Campus safety is a concern for the staff at U.C.D. Emergencies can be reported by toll-free phone lines, online, and via the Rave emergency notification tool. Emergency information can also be texted to someone for free after registration. Also, police are usually not too far away. In addition, the university has created many organizations to combat problems such as personal safety, community standards, and wellness. After an emergency event, counseling is available to anyone who may need it.
    Greek Life

    There are many Greek Clubs, mainly for honors students though.

    With over 150 clubs and organizations, one can team up with fellow students to get projects done, do community service, or whatever one's vision may be. There are no bounds, creating a club is fairly simple at U.C.D.

    There are many different backgrounds at U.C.D. Everyone, from all ethnicities, can thrive at this college. However, the students that have experience with online classes or a great ability to learn outside of the classroom will have more success.

    This University offers a respected diploma. The outdoor life is unmatched. The campus and area are absolutely beautiful. The cost of tuition and other expenses are of little concern compared to what someone gets in return.

    Hmm, so many things to choose from. Snowboarding, skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting to start off with. There are countless activities to do outdoors. Sports is a passion for the Denver area. The area sports, especially the pros, provides a ton of excitement. The Nuggets, Rockies, and Broncos play within blocks. If the small outdoor mall on campus doesn't appeal to someone, the 16th St. Mall (blocks away) is large enough to satisfy anyone's appetite for shopping.
    Food and Dining

    The food offered on campus is above average. To say the least, the food is fairly tolerable on a long term basis. A wide variety is offered and prepared fairly well. If campus food isn't someone's fit, then within blocks is any type of food one could think of.
    Academic Rigor

    The academics at UC - Denver has challenging, diverse ccourses. Their integrity is honorable and they have many graduate programs to offer as well. Beware though, many classes are offered online. If your not used to online classes, or haven't had one, then plan accordingly. I recommend taking at least one or two online classes beforehand, if possible. Regardless, a diploma from the University of Colorado - Denver is held in high regards.
    Tips for prospective students

    My advice to prospective students is the downtown area can be confusing and travel can be time consuming. Prepare and study tranportation plans carefully. This will save time and money. The campus is amazing once your there. Plan to spend some extra time enjoying all the activities and urban life.

    I don't know. This is my 3rd semester at UCD, but the 1st semester on campus is this summer (in 2 days), so time will tell. It seems pretty safe the few times I have been down there for advisor meetings and such.

    Being a downtown campus, there are quite a few eccentric people and the crime rate of late has been somewhat jarring, but its a great place overall. The seventh street park is a cool destination that gives a historic look at downtown Denver.

    The school offers some courses which are pooled with Metro, which means two different tuition rates for students in the same class, the UCD students paying more.

    The athletics building is very good to go shoot some hoops or lift weights and let off some steam, the Tivoli building is a good hangout for food, playing pool, or watching TV.

    Many choices are offered throughout the campus, and the fast food chains use the same pricing they would outside of campus, so you're not being ripped off.

    Because the university is built in a historic neighborhood UCD has refurbished a lot of these buildings and honored them through historic plaques and tours. Our student union is the inside of a brewery from a century ago and many offices are housed in 9th street park, an old and iconic street.

    The advice I would give prospective students is to pursue as many extracurricular activities as possible. Because the campus is set in the middle of downtown Denver the opportunities to see performances, participate in community projects and further your world experience are endless and most of the time have their flyers posted through out the hallways. You can throw yourself into a mix of activity based groups or quietly observe concerts and gallery openings. If you are shy like me take comfort in knowing that there is a happy median to be found participating in all consuming clubs and sitting home alone, it will enrich your education and free time.

    The University of Colorado at Denver is a school teeming with opportunity and variety in both the the academic and social aspects of the experience offered. Because students don't technically live on the Auraria campus, Freshman can experience the city of denver by living in different student apartments all over town. The university of Colorado at Denver is also lucky to have the most ethnically diverse student body in the state. This aspect enhances awareness and teaches mindfulness in the classroom and outside of it. The inner city location of the University also bolsters the long list of nearby companies who wish to give students first hand experience in the career field they wish to join.     The university has a new dorm building and the dorm community is very tightly knit. Students are exposed to a clean environment. Each dorm has their own kitchen, bathroom, and up to three room per one dorm. There are many activities that are held between the students at the dorm, allowing to enjoy the city life.

    There is plenty to do around campus. The university is right outside of downtown Denver and is surrounded by thing to do. There is the 16th street mall just down the street from the campus that has a movie theatre, book store, and plenty of activities to keep a student entertained.

    Once again, I have not moved into the dorms currently and have no current college experience. Since I am a college freshman and my semester hasn't started, I don't have much to say on the dining at University of Colorado Denver.

    The dorm life is, again, currently not something I have experienced. According to other reviews and my personal communication with the department, I have not been impressed. When I visited the dorms at Campus Village, they were extremely nice and comforting. Each two rooms came with a common area and kitchen. I just felt the communication had been difficult when in came to asking for a lease and finding a roommate, therefore, I have decided to save my money for the coming semester and live at home.

    From the things I have heard about the academics of this university, they aren't bad at all. For most, because it is a small college in the middle of downtown Denver, the academics of this school is discredited. The students seem driven, the teaching staff appear to be focused, and the classes are affordable. Just what a student is looking for to pursue a successful career.
    Tips for prospective students

    As a prospective student myself, I don't have to many tips as far as the university goes. However, with many run-ins with Campus Village (the dorms set up for current and oncoming students at UCD) prior to registering for classes, I have found that the system within the department is very unorganized and hard to contact for information and/or questions. So as a tip for prospective students, it would be best to commute to school to avoid simple altercations.

    As far as the tour went during orientation, the campus seemed very organized, clean, and friendly to a student looking for a small university. Although, right outside of downtown, the school is not enormously crowded and the academics are said to be highly rewarding to perspective careers of students attending.     The campus is really a safe campus although we've had a few incidences of indecent exposure and some theft. Being right downtown it is by no means an exclusive campus. However if for any reason you don't feel safe you can call the security services or Night Ride and they will escort you to your destination. Also at night the campus is really well lit and there are often a number of other students still on campus.

    Unfortunately i haven't really involved myself in many clubs or activities but i know there is a plethora of them out there! We often get representatives from clubs, who present in our classes or in the commons, promoting the organization or an activity they are hosting.

    The University of Colorado Denver is situated on Auraria Campus and shares many of its facilities with Metropolitan State University and the Community College of Denver but that really doesn't change anything.

    The University of Colorado Denver is really not that expensive and it's got good academics. I believe we get what we pay for and so much more - the tutoring service and other resources provided by the school really make the school worthwhile.
    What to do for fun

    The University of Colorado Denver is located next to central downtown and has a great train system that connects to the campus. Almost anything and anywhere you want to go is accessible, but the campus also offers a huge variety activities itself! You can almost always find something going on from the number of campus events to event centers next door and civil activities happening near 16th Street Mall or the Capitol.
    Food and Dining

    Almost every building has a cafe and in Tivoli there are about 10 food options. Aside for the cafes, fast food, and pizza pits, we get a lot of food trucks, and since downtown is right there you could eat anywhere on 16th Street Mall or nearby so the options for food are really endless (even a grocery store is within walking distance).

    While dorms aren't located directly on campus students have 3 student housing options which are all very convient to school, have a connecting bus exclusive for student use, and lots of amenities!

    Some may consider the academics though, but really all it is is the teachers expect you to do work outside of class and be able to apply what you've learned to new situations.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do well in your courses because if you do bad and decide to retake a course, the University averages your grade (so a C and an A become a B). Also try to know what degree you want when you start or figure it out within the first two semester, then figure out exactly what classes are prerequisites and take them as soon as possible - putting this off can put off your whole career. By the way, the professors and advisors are great resources for this!

    The school is not overpriced for what you get. The resources, the class content, the professors, everything is well worth the money you're going to spend on an education. You just have to be sure to make the most of what you're given here.

    The school is conveniently located in downtown Denver, CO. There is plenty to do for fun. There's the 16th Street Mall about 1 mile from campus, movie theaters, restaurants and other malls all around Denver. There are plenty of parks to go visit and the mountains with some of the nations best skiing and snowboarding are only about 1 hour away.

    It's pretty average. Some things are better than others and eventually you get really tired of the same old thing, but that's the problem with dorm food everywhere.

    The dorms are fairly new, in good shape and clean, and HUGE. The RA's are all really nice and it's extremely quiet for being a dorm. I've lived here for 2 years and really don't have any complaints about the dorm itself.

    The University of Colorado Denver really is a quality institution. There are so many resources all over campus to get you the help you need if you need it, or to create a game plan for graduation or for graduate school. The classes are challenging, but not impossible and there has yet to be one professor who I haven't liked--the quality of education is fantastic, I really feel as if I am expanding my knowledge base by a considerable amount.

    The school's tuition is relatively cheap, it is an accredited school, and it is really easy to live without a car, thus cutting down on gas costs. Overall an undergraduate degree from this school is worth it.

    The school is centered in the heart of Denver. Across the street is an amusement park with roller coasters, an aquarium, skate parks, and plenty of funky places to eat downtown.

    I don't eat on campus, and when I do I go to the Tivoli building. There's plenty of good eats around campus, so you probably won't starve.

    The classes meet any competitive college standards. The classes can be hard, but there are many outside resources to help students excel.

    This school is great for teaching and medical degrees, its what its renowned for in Colorado. Medical prospectives should look into the BA/BS/MD program, it ensures admission into their medical school. It is a perfect school if you wish to live at home in Colorado and still seek higher education. For out of state students, they do have student housing options.

    Living in the Denver Metro area and commuting to school from home is easy. The programs offered are fantastic, especially working through the Anschutz school for medical degrees. Personally, I hate the urban area and the campus, I want a school to be it's own community; not a school that is part of a larger community.

The only reason why i would not give UCD a 10/10 is because i personally do not like how it is a bit difficult to meet with teachers or advisers. Although I personally do not give UCD a 10/10, it is still a great campus, with very educated teacher and a very nice atmosphere, in Down town, Colorado!

    Denver has one of the cleanest and safest downtowns, which is comforting, because campus is in the heart of the downtown. Campus policy patrols regularly and notifies students of any safety issues via email and text message. There are also emergency phones stationed all around campus if you are ever in danger and need assistance or simply do not feel safe and wish to be assisted.

    There are many clubs offered. Sports are minimal, but expanding. We just got our mascot, the lynx!

    Food in the dorms is decent, but fairly vitamin deficient in my opinion. Dining downtown is exquisite and extremely varied.

    Personally, I disliked the dorms, because I felt restricted. However, the dorms are very nice quality, cheap for downtown living, and a great place to meet people.

    Unlike other universities, UCD does not allow you to replace unsatisfactory course work with better scores. Instead, both scores remain on your transcript. I think this promotes a more focused attitude toward education, which is good. In addition, the professors are very involved, and because UCD is a research institute, these professors are required to remain up to date in their areas of expertise.

    This university does not provide a typical college town experience like what you might find depicted in cinema. If this is what you are looking for, consider the sister school located in Boulder. Instead, this university provides a focused environment for furthering your education and fun to be had will revolve around Denver's cultured downtown life.

    Campus is very safe during the day and a little more sketchy at night. It is located in downtown Denver, and the drunk hobos like to venture onto campus every once in a while. There are Night Rides for free on campus for those that do not feel safe walking around at night.

    The Tivoli Student Union holds the cafetaria (Taco Bell, McDonald's, Mark Pi's, Subway and a salad place). There is also a pizza arena and a convience store in the Tivoli. Each building has its own cafe with an assortment of food and drink. We are also located in the heart of Denver, and there are many food and dining place within walking distance.
    Dorm Life

    Auraria Campus is a commuter campus, so dorm life isn't a huge thing, although there are three different places for campus housing.
    Academic Rigor

    Intro. level classes are not too difficult and the workload is appropriate to the class. Professors have high expectations, but not impossibles ones. You will feel challenged, but able to succeed.

    If you are commuting to campus via light rail, always make sure to get on the rail before the one you would normally take to get to campus. You never know when the rail will be delayed.

    There are lots of outdoor activities to do around campus and Denver. The Rockie Mountains are a short drive and the view is spectacular. If you love to ski or snowboard this the the place you want to be. Denver has a very active and diverse music scene and offers a lot of local as well as popular concerts. Denver has many bike paths and walking trails. And it always sunny.

    The food is pretty good. They offer a lot of variety. You can also you your meal pass at small venues thoughout the campus, as well as you can cook homecooked meals in your dorm/apartment. Plus Denver is a great place to explore all of the great restaurant especially during restuarant week.

    Campus housing for a freshmen is a quad type of a dorm or apartment. Each quad contains 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a small kitchen and a living room. Similiar majors live together in the quads.

    The music program is competitive. It requires students poractice and study a lot, but it is also enjoyable and fun.
