Categories Comments Great for these types of students -Those in need of Financial Aid -looking to enter a Scientific Field -Enjoy a moderately large school (10,000+) -Searching for a Suburban setting -Want a taste of a Public 4-year University
Tips for prospective students It would be a great idea for you to get acquainted with the campus, meet some upper/lower-division students, athletes, and teachers, and look to find you major at at a dependable & worthwhile school
Bang for the buck OH YEA!!! The tuition is resonable, especially if you have scholarships, grants, financial aid, etc...and the reimburse your money towards the middle of the year if you have extra funds! Fantastic!!
Am enjoying being here Well since I was raised down south, Colorado was never the right place for me. However, UCCS shows a better side of Colorado I thought I'd never see, yet I still love the south & it'll always influence my views of this place.
Am learning a lot Apparently, even though the course work does increase in difficulty (like in high school) you actually get more engaged in your courses & want to discover better ways to expand your knowledge. Plus the Learning Center help here is excellent!! Go there if you ever need any help in Math, Science, Language, or Writing-type classes

Categories Comments Great for these types of students 1. city dwellers 2. outdoorsy ( pikes peak, and lots of hiking opportunities) 3. military (the army rotc has an excellent program here)
Tips for prospective students 1. apply early, you will have a better chance of being admitted 2. complete the fafsa, and apply for a lot of scholarships, even if you think you're not eligible. 3. write a cool application essay, it will give you a personality among all the thousands of other applicants
Bang for the buck uccs is a very affordable school. the quality of education you receive is unparalleled to others, comparatively price wise. furthermore, there are copious amounts of grants and scholarships available to offset the cost.
Am enjoying being here UCCS, because it is small, has a great sense of community. being in Colorado Springs, there are a lot of great things to do and plenty of great places to eat.
Academic Rigor uccs is a very excellent school in terms of learning effectively and critically. the class sizes are small, and you get personal attention with the teachers. the curriculum is relevant to your degree, and every class is a learning experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCCS is great for all students who are looking to go to a smaller university that gives you individual feedback, where you are considered a person, not just a number. UCCS has a great business and nursing program that leave students very successful in the end. And if you are into golf, there is a great golf program here and the golf team has gone on to nationals. The school itself is great for people looking for adventure, and enjoy the outdoors. The atmosphere is great and enjoyable for everyone!
Tips for prospective students Go into college with an open mind. College will change you no matter what, whether it is drastic or subtle. Just know that college is a learning opportunity not only for academics, but also about yourself. You learn how to live and take on your own responsibilities and you grow as a person. You make so many connections that if you ever need a favor or a reference, there is always someone around to help you out.
Bang for the buck The tuition here is not that bad if you are from instate. There are many programs if you need help paying for school but for the most part, the school is affordable. With the attention of professors and the great school atmosphere, the school is worth the money. You really get everything out of the classes you pay for, and your time and money is not wasted.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love being at UCCS. The campus is gorgeous, with the mountain view of Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods right around the corner. The campus itself is fairly new, with construction almost done, including our new science building, recreation center, and athletics building. I love the atmosphere here, and everyone is polite and friendly. You get to know the people on campus, especially if you are involved in the Greek life or other campus organizations. There are so many things to do and lots of places to go. There is never a dull moment!
Am learning a lot There are many classes to choose from here at UCCS. There are a variety of Colleges that you can be in, although being in a specific college on campus does not limit you to taking classes that are specific to your career plan. There are other classes such as the fine art and history of Wine, or history and theory of yoga. Either way you are learning so much at UCCS, and the teachers are great. They are mostly all personable, and are willing to meet with you one on one to help you with anything your are struggling on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for all types. It is not a party school, but you can find at least one party on the weekends. Most people here are here to learn. All the majors have wonderful professors and a good list of classes.
Tips for prospective students It is really helpful to have a car here since there isn't much within walking distance. Also, the professors here are all extremely helpful and really care about you doing well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Hard working and dedicated students.
Tips for prospective students If you plan on attending UCCS make sure that you stay in the dorms. This will help you make more friends rather than feel like an outsider.
Bang for the buck With multiple events going on every week, UCCS students get their money's worth out of it.
Am enjoying being here Changing schools is a difficult process but UCCS made the transition easy for me.
Am learning a lot Within the first few months of attending UCCS I learned many new things that I didn't learn in high school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students You see all kinds of students on campus, and there are clubs that would appeal to anyone's interests! :)
Tips for prospective students If you are a communter student, arrive to class at least 15-20 minutes early (I usually arrive about 30 minutes early) because parking spaces are very limited. The parking garage usually has spaces if the lots don't (I almost always park in the garage anyway because then your car is protected from weather). Professors are usually very approachable, so just ask them about things if you have questions or problems.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident and apply for the COF (College Opportunity Fund), the tuition is really not all that expensive.
Am enjoying being here I have enjoyed all my classes so far! I haven't met a professor that I really disliked yet!
Am learning a lot The courses are challenging and fun, but not impossibly hard. Interpersonal Communication, Map and Compass, and Freshman Seminar are really fun! The standards are higher than they were in high school, but just give it your best and you will do okay!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students 4-year, hard working, transfer,
Tips for prospective students Be ready for a great ride. It's totally different from high school, and different from other schools. You'll love it!
Bang for the buck This is really a cost effective method for someone who doesn't have the money for a big state or private institution, but is also either leaving community college, or just wants to go to a 4-year college.
Am enjoying being here The campus is really beautiful, there is great student involvement. Even though it is a big city, it has a little city feel to it. I love all the programs I can get involved in, the help I can get at the learning centers and the amazing view of the mountains!
Am learning a lot The college is a little underrated, in my mind. The professors are all top notch, and they really know about their subject matter! You have to go to class though. Not many teachers will let you skip without verified documentation.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I don't even know.
Tips for prospective students From my experience, students here aren't very interested in making new friends. Not very outgoing, and many students here already come in cliques. But, If you know people already, it might be better. If you are shy, I wouldn't recommend it. A good college to get your core classes out of the way a bit cheaper, but honestly, I wish I had just gone to CSU in the first place.
Bang for the buck Pretty average, I suppose.
Am enjoying being here Very beautiful campus, most staff are very nice. Although, a lot of students (including me) have had loads of trouble with the financial aid process. You can ask Is everything I need completed? a million times, and they will tell you yes, only to learn a week before classes start that you apparently owe $6,000 and a bunch or random late fees. UCCS staff will give you the run around, and you will probably end up doing most everything yourself, or finding yourself talking to the dean to get CORRECT answers. While they are nice, they don't seem to have all the knowledge required to help people with these matters.
Am learning a lot I suppose I am, although large class sizes can make it extremely difficult in certain subjects such as Chemistry. The Science Learning Center can offer extra help, but I would rather just learn from my actual class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who likes being able to apply the things they are learning to real life and helping the community, enjoys outdoor activities, and interesting on-campus programs.
Tips for prospective students Go out and participate in the activities sponsored by housing at the beginning of the year, because they are a great way to meet almost everyone who lives on campus and create a tight-knit community. Get to know your teachers at the beginning of the semester, who are more than willing to spend extra time helping you, and take advantage of the learning centers or tutors if you're having trouble in classes.
Bang for the buck The tuition is pretty inexpensive for the quality of education, but on-campus housing and meal plans are expensive. However, the price was worth the great experiences I've had there.
Am enjoying being here The housing team sets up an almost constant stream of activities, there are tons of interesting clubs to participate in, there is a great sense of community with people living on campus and the surrounding area is filled with opportunity and exciting experiences as well as natural beauty.
Am learning a lot I started learning a lot of great things as soon as I started attending here, not just in the classroom but from the many mentors and leaders they have available for advice on campus. Also, in classes, many teachers bring in information from world news and life experience, which makes it more interesting and easy to apply book knowledge to life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UCCS is connected to the police department of Colorado Springs as they also have their own police department there. They offer to escort you to were you need to go at night if you feel unsafe. Over all the campus security is excellent.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a hammock hidden in campus that no one knows where it is at. There are also that every 2nd Tuesday, they have pancakes for the students for free to get breakfast before starting their classes in the morning.
What to do for fun There is the rec center where you can go to work out or attend one of their workout classes. The campus plan events to help the students to engage with campus and be able to get the school more. The Resident Assistant also plan programs for their floors to be involve and get to know their residents. But there are trails all over campus that you can go to take a hike. One of the trail take you to Pulpit Rock.
Food and Dining The food at UCCS is really diversified and they have a section for international food. Every week they have a different food from a different part of the world. They have the option to go to the Lodge to eat or you can go to Cafe 65 to eat. They offered food from different places of the world every week and its healthy and tasty at the same time. There are also restaurants around campus that you can go eat out if you get tired of the food at campus.
Dorm Life UCCS does not require their freshman to spend the first year with them. In fact they don't make it a requirement to the student to stay there. They offer apartments for students to stay at, or stay on the campus dorms that they have usually 3 bedrooms with a small living room, and a bathroom. This year UCCS had to open more places since the demand for housing was higher than what they expected. The new dorms are okay. The RA make events for the floors so its interactive. But if you have a problem in your dorm, it takes them a while to respond.
Academic Rigor They offer classes that will challenge you and an honors programs for fast accelerating learning. It is not like high school, you have to make sure that you turn in your work on time. Most professors won't accept late work. Also make sure that you don't skipped the class because the professor might take attendance that will count towards the grade and if you miss a class, you could miss important information.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that if you are considering this college to go to a tour to know the college. When you go on a tour at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), make sure to take notes about the information that they give you and pay attention when their deadlines are. Also ask question even if they seem dumb but believe me it will help a lot.
In three sentences The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a really nice campus that has an amazing view to the mountains. UCCS have a good campus tour that help future students decided if they like to go there for their college years. Also, UCCS has a variety of majors to satisfy every one's major preference.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nursing, health, engineering, communication, philosophy
What to do for fun Hiking, skiing, nightlife, camping, plays, concerts
Food and Dining Clyde's is the one and only on-campus dining option, but fortunately it features good on-tap beers and is decently priced.
Dorm Life Avoid if at all possible.
Academic Rigor Having transferred from Montana State University, I can attest to the impact of having professors who genuinely availed themselves to inquiry and after-hours instruction. The professors at UCCS are their because they love to teach.
Tips for prospective students Obey the on-campus speed limit, 10 MPH, or else! The campus PD is notorious for anal-retentiveness. The shuttle from the bottom of the hill is a great, free option for those that don't want to pay the ridiculous cost of a parking permit.
In three sentences Education-focused that features dedicated instructors but minimal campus-community. Located in beautiful Colorado Springs, the school is an ideal option for outdoor-enthusiasts who like the conveniences that city-living can provide. Overall a well priced option for any student looking to make the most out of their post-secondary educational experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is campus security everywhere, along with those nifty emergency phones. I wouldn't suggest running around at night screaming - I tend not to suggest that anywhere, let alone on a campus - but the students here feel safe even walking around after dark.
Greek Life Unfortunately, no Greek Life. Unless you're talking about the Greek transfer students.
Clubs and Activities I admit, they don't have a Linux Users Support Group like the School of Mines close by, but darn if they have everything else. With the exception of Greek life and Lovecraftian cults, students have started just about every club imaginable here and kept them fairly successful. I'm thinking of starting a Cthulhu Fan Club, myself.
Great for these types of students Do you game? Play Settlers of Catan? Camp? Make s'mores? Go to concerts? Enjoy amateur and professional music? Have laserpointer battles? Partake in the occasional water balloon fight? Feud with others over the most realistic depictions of light sabers in modern technology? Like salad bars and smoothies and greasy pizza? Play chess? Paint outside? Bet on who could survive the inevitable zombie apocalypse the longest? Like to learn? Like to hike and meet similar-minded people on those hikes? Like wearing mascot costumes? Come to UCCS.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A lot of people dress up like the wildcat mascot, not just for Halloween. I've never been sure why - and I'm not referring to holiday occasions or football games. People come to class wearing wildcat costume heads; I think professors are used to it.
Bang for the buck The engineers who are avoiding School of Mines' ridiculous tuition go here, as do pre-meds, pre-vets, and students looking to save for graduate school. The education prepares you for graduate work and for going into work right after graduation, and it's $20,000 or so per year with huge deductibles for in-state and out-of-state students. So imagine about $25,000 for a Bachelor's in whatever you want.
What to do for fun There's a frisbee golf course right next to the dormatories. Beyond that, the downtown Colorado Springs is full of concert venues (headbangers), arcades (gamers), shopping malls and districts (spenders), and is located right next to the Red Rocks and Garden of the Gods. There's something for everyone and anyone.
Food and Dining I mentioned this in the new student tips. Never spend money off campus for food unless you're craving something specific. Clyde's, Jazzman's, and the normal cafeterias have fine dining, whether you're going for gourmet or casual cheeseburgers with friends.
Dorm Life This fluctuates with your roommates and floor, but the people who live on campus are serious about making the most out of their time at UCCS. Whether this is through academics, social life, extracurriculars, stargazing-- it's how you contribute.
Academic Rigor This mostly depends on the major you take and your aptitude for such. Science and engineering folk will have challenging but meaningful work-- I don't know about everyone else, though. My humanities classes were serious, though-- few people miss class here.
Tips for prospective students Eat on campus - buy those campus dollars. You don't need to spend extra cash at Chipotle's or Chicfillet because UCCS food is always delicious. And for underclassmen, live in the special housing (Honors, Outdoor Living) because it really brings your spirits up whne you're having the bad weeks.
In three sentences This place is for engineers, geologists, and communications majors that actually want to do something. The campus is safe and the professors are enlightening. The outside world around UCCS is stimulating and isnpiring.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone and everyone. I can't imagine a person that couldn't find his/her place here.
Tips for prospective students If you want to attend a school that is absolutely dedicated to the education of its students, go here!
Bang for the buck It's surprisingly within a reasonable price range! You can't pay enough for that mountain view.
Am enjoying being here This school amazes me more every day. I'm going on my third year here and have met some amazing people and professors. The dorms are nice, there no community bathrooms and living in the dorms helps to gain the large university experience. Obviously, I love this school, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Am learning a lot The classes are smaller than some Universities which has allowed me to have more personal relationships with my professors; I might also mention that some of the professors here have done amazing things! (One of mine was an Alpine Skier in the Olympics! Another professor was a brave Paramedic!)

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is great. The campus police do a great job at keeping the campus safe. If there are wild animals spotted (this campus is near the mountains on a sizable hill) they send out an email to all students attending campus to warn them, and if anything happens they let everyone know. There are also panic buttons around campus in all the parking lots and every here and there that allow students to hit it and the campus police can either come to the student or talk to them through the speaker system.
Bang for the buck I believe that UCCS is definitely worth the tuition cost. Engineering courses are tough, but the professors here do a great job in teaching them, and I'm sure that the professors for the other majors do just as good a job! UCCS is even cheaper than many other universities around!
What to do for fun There are tons of campus activities year round that can be attended! These include music concerts from different local and popular bands, dances, unique games, and much, much more!
Food and Dining I only give the food and dining four stars because I think the food is good enough, but it is a little pricey.
Dorm Life I can't really rate this because I live at home to save money, but some of my friends live on campus and say that they have fun there!
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, this can vary greatly. For my major, I give it 5 stars because Mechanical Engineering is a difficult field of study but the professors here do a superb job at teaching these classes!
Tips for prospective students Some tips for those that want to attend UCCS is to take a Freshmen Seminar class. I took one and later assisted the professor in teaching it. It was fun and it also helps you to get oriented to the campus better.
In three sentences UCCS has a great campus full of many different people. Although it is a smaller university compared to others, it is still a great place to be. There are also many different majors that you can take here!

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities I do know that CTU offers great clubs and activities for their students, but with me living in Ohio and working 10hr. days it is hard for me to take advantage of them.
Great for these types of students At home mother's New Student's Single/working parent's (male or female) Individual wanting to further their education
Bang for the buck The best bang for my busk would be a pair of designer shoes. I have a shoe fetish, I love and I mean love shoes. I have over 300 pairs, but Colorado Technical University has been a bang for my bucks, I see after I receive my BA degree I will be able to excel on my current job. I currently work for Gap Inc. and they offer great opportunities where there is growth.
What to do for fun I love decorating homes. I like going to antique shops, consignment shops, and thrift store looking for unique and genuine piece.
Food and Dining I love to cook and I like to try new recipes all the time. I collect cook books and I have quite a collection. My favorite things to cook are dishes such as Gumbo. and anything with seafood's.
Dorm Life I currently live in Columbus, Ohio . So I have not had the experience to live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor The Academic Rigor at CTU is very extensive. It covers all the bases need to help students understand as well as comprehend the task at hand. They have a plethora of icons that are helpful with assisting students such as library, discussion boards and student advising. All these available perks have assisted me in my educational experience at CTU.
Tips for prospective students It is my tip for prospective students, is that CTU is a great school if you are trying to enhance as well as excel in your education. The staff is friendly as well as helpful with information and tools to get you started in the direction(s) that will be helpful with your education. If you are looking for a great school that is there to help you stay on course toward your educational goals, then Colorado Technical University has their doors open waiting to assist you on the road to a great career and educational experience.
In three sentences I have been a student at CTU for almost four years. I graduate with my Bachelor Degree in December 2012. My experience at CTU has been most enjoyable, going back to school has been a great experience for me. It has changed my life. Thank You Colorado Technical University!!

Categories Comments What to do for fun On campus, the best thing to do for fun is go to the recreational center. It is a healthy way to spend your time and there are a lot of things to do.
Food and Dining The food on campus is pretty good. The ladies that work there are wonderful. I like the variety of food they serve on a daily basis.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great, the rest of the students have great personalities, and I love being around them. They motivate me to get school work done and I think that is the most important part of being in the dorms.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at the university is pretty high, there are always people at the library. I found myself spending hours and hours in the library my first semester, but it wasn't a bad thing because I had my friends there with me.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit your advisors, and take a look around campus because there are lots of places you can go to get help with your first year of college, you just have to find it.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful, with a great view of the mountains. All the professors and advisors are very nice, and always willing to help. The dorms are great, and I like the environment in general

Categories Comments What to do for fun Since the University of COlorado is smack in the middle of Colorado Springs, there are many things to do. You can attend classes and do sports at the Rec Center or go outside and explore all the many things that Colorado has to offer. If you are an outdoors lover, this is the place to be.
Food and Dining There are multiple cafeterias and coffee carts set up throughout the campus. Very satisfying for a snack, full meal, or just to re-fuel with some caffeine.
Dorm Life I did not have a dorm experience. However, many students choose this option. I recommend this to new students who are seeking the college experience.
Academic Rigor I have been to three different universities and the University of Colorado is very comparable to the other universities when it comes to academic rigor. Obviously the further along you get in your degree, the harder the classes are. The University of Colorado is very comparable to other universities.
In three sentences The University of Colorado Springs is a great university for students who commute to school as well as students looking for the college experience. There are multiple programs to choose your major from and the class times are convenient for working students. It is a gorgeous campus with small class sizes, great professors, and is a great school to choose for a four year degree.

Great for these types of students students more interested in academics then sports...not a very big sport college.
Food and Dining there are lots of options but they aren't always that great.
Dorm Life do not live in dorms but they look nice.
Academic Rigor this school has very rigorous courses especially in the sciences.
Tips for prospective students make sure you put all the information in up front and check in. they lost my initial application fee and i was not able to get into any of the classes i wanted because of a hold on my account.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i feel very safe. walking to the shuttle at night, there are security personnel in the parking lot for assistance.
Bang for the buck uccs is a great value for a great education. it seems to have a more serious group of students(vs boulder - party school) and i feel iim getting an ivy-league quality education on a state school budget!
What to do for fun lots of campus clubs, campus-led activities and events, concerts, plays, sports, etc. there are several colleges in town, so there are lots of games on weekends, skiing close-by and hiking and biking trails are well planned. a very outdoor community.
Food and Dining iihave only used the coffee shops, but the dining facility looks nice and the meal plans are flexible.
Dorm Life i don't live in the dorms, but saw the facilities on tour and the are clean, adequate and secure.
Academic Rigor be ready to study!
Tips for prospective students live close or have a car. try for work/study on campus if you need to work. campus life is good - safe.
In three sentences uccs is a dynamic school with a diverse population of students/faculty. it is located in the heart of beautiful colorado springs at the foot of pikes peak. this is the educational alternative to cu - boulder.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus safety is a priority at uccs. security patrols the parking lots daily and makes sure the students and their property is safe at all times.
Clubs and Activities uccs has a club for almost anything you can think of, and if they don't you can create it! if you come to here, there is a club for you!
Great for these types of students if you love the outdoors, nature, sports, or want to get away from the city life.
Bang for the buck as college tuition rises every year, it is hard to go big traditional colleges. uccs provides a middle ground for those who want the college experience but do not want to break their bank.
What to do for fun between sports events and different activities with clubs, there is always something that will entertain you on campus. i would recommend going to our recreational center if you enjoy sports and like to compete in tournaments.
Food and Dining meal plans are provided to both commuter students and residents. hired cooks provide meals throughout the day as well as restaurants throughout the campus.
Dorm Life dorms are somewhat small and limited in quantity but do provide the opportunity to interact with the rest of the student body.
Academic Rigor university of colorado at colorado springs provides a great education with teachers eager to assist you. it is also home to one of the best engineering programs in the nation.
Tips for prospective students this is a commuter campus so you want to get involved in things to stay in the social life. there is an abundance of clubs and activities here so you will stay busy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety not many other colleges have a police department of their own on campus. along with a campus text alert system the school does its best to keep students feeling secure.
Clubs and Activities intramural sports are huge and always going on. you'll never feel like the season is over.
Bang for the buck tuition is surprisingly inexpensive for a branch of cu. classes will challenge you and never leave you feeling it wasn't worth the price.
What to do for fun only boring people say there is nothing to do in colorado. colorado springs offers a miniature version of the city life with weather that will show you the seasons without making you pray for summer. colorado springs is also unique in that it is nestled below cheyenne mountain which holds plenty spots to view the city from high above. you'll go as far as the imagination can take you as colorado boasts plenty of wide open space and all four seasons that will never leave you bored.
Food and Dining most students make use of the lodge to chow down on an all you can eat meal. along with a few other fast food choices located on campus and in nearby shopping plazas. when the hungry scholar acquires a craving for something really delicious they stop by clyde's for a bite. this little restaraunt and bar is the premier meal stop for uccs.
Dorm Life personally i do not live at the dorms but they do seem to cover your basic necessities. along with a head start on meetin your peers, the dorms will make getting to class on time much easier as you will be staying within a short walking distance to class.
Academic Rigor uccs keeps to the university of colorado legacy by always offering the best academic environment and top notch teachers to shape your future.
Tips for prospective students uccs is a great place to grow. teachers will actually do their best to help you out no matter where you place in your class. being an early bird will definitely pay off though, the popularity of this school is on the rise!
In three sentences university life with smaller class sizes. uccs offers great academic challenge along with a view that's easy on the eyes. bundle that up and add a smaller than average tuition fee, you'll get the college experience of your life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is safe, and it is located in a good part of town. Campus security is usually near by.
Bang for the buck The value is definitely there. The classes are not too expensive, and a semester of 12 credit hours cost about $3500 for the classes alone.
What to do for fun For fun, I like to read, hike, and ski.
Food and Dining They have a small cafe on the ground floor of the university center where students can get a lunch and some coffee. There is also a small cafeteria. Sometimes there are events that offer free food, like pancakes.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Classes are well organized, and a lot is covered in lecture. You must spend time studying afterwards to actually understand the information presented.
Tips for prospective students When applying, call in a week after submitting your application to make sure the college has everything. Also, if you have declared a major, go to the student center and make an appointment with an academic adviser to make sure all your classes have transferred.
In three sentences The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a nice college. The campus has nice lawns, which are great for studying when the days are nice. Also, the faculty is good, and the university has plenty of resource centers to help students who are struggling in their classes and studies.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a UCCS police department on campus with patrol always around. There are blue safety buttons all over campus in case of an emergency and at any time you don't feel safe you can call the campus police to escort you to where ever you have to go. They also send out updates about safety and things to be aware of on campus through email.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs available or so many different things. My favorite is the LARPing club (Live Action Role Playing) because you can see them all having a blast acting out dramatic battles with fake swords from the Overlook Cafe at the University Center. If you can think of it you can make a club about it, I am sure.
Great for these types of students People who need more time with their teacher or want be able to connect with them easier. People who love the mountains and being outside. People who want a University education without the strains of excessive party-life like many other university. Anyone who doesn't fit the traditional college stereotype because the campus is so diverse, there are people young and old and of all races, social classes, and cultural back grounds.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and the Manitou Incline are not very far from the Campus so if you like a good hike or just some time outside they are the places to go. Manitous Springs and Old Colorado City aren't too far from campus either, if you love eclectic shops full of interesting things check them out.
Bang for the buck You get the same University of Colorado level courses, with a small teacher to student ratio. That is worth the price in my opinion.
What to do for fun There is constantly fairs, clubs, and events going on all over campus. It is hard to go to school here and not at least pass by something. You have to make a conscious decision to avoid events to miss them at UCCS.
Food and Dining There are coffee shops all over campus that offer great baked goods, coffee, sandwiches, and snacks that are delicious. The cafe in the University Center lounge has a variety of fast food options and we can't forget Clyde's! Clyde's is a nice little hangout in the University Center that serves great food.
Dorm Life I can't entirely rate this accurately because I personally haven't lived in them, but I have seen them and they are clean with the same beautiful view the rest of the campus has. They are within 5-10 walk of virtually everything on the main campus.
Academic Rigor It is challenging, but not over the top. If you do your work, you should have no problem succeeding.
Tips for prospective students Come check out the campus, it is small and a lot more quiet than the other schools I have been to, but if you thrive in that kind of environment I highly recommend it. Also, talk to other people on campus, you might be surprised what kind of people you meet.
In three sentences Out of the four schools I have attended in Colorado, UCCS is by far the best. The classes are small and diverse, there are bound to be some people there you can relate to and the teachers are amazing. Plus it is gorgeous with the view of Pikes Peak out the front of every door.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is really exellent here. If it's late, you can call for a police escort. And if there is an emergency there are tons of campus phones that have a button you can press if you need 911 or campus police.
Greek Life The sororities and fraternities are pretty well known around campus. The people are really nice too!
Clubs and Activities There's no limit to what clubs and acitivites we have. You can even start up your own!
Great for these types of students This school is great for any student wanting to succeed in life!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a secret hammock! Only a few people know about it, it's a great place to relax!
Bang for the buck No college is cheap, but UCCS isn't a money guzzler. You get a lot more than you pay for here.
What to do for fun Go outside! Campus is absolutely beautiful, take advantage of it.
Food and Dining The food is amazing! It's hard to not spend my book money on the food here!!!
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm, but I have heard nothing but good things about them.
Academic Rigor Academic success here is really practical. You don't have to have a 4.0 GPA to succeed. You just have to do your best.
Tips for prospective students Always stay positive. Don't get stressed out or overwhelmed easily. Make new friends.
In three sentences UCCS is a really beautiful school. People there couldn't be more friendly. The staff and education is outstanding!

Categories Comments Campus Safety They are always available when needed. Will walk you to your car after dark, and will help direct traffic when parking is full or if there has been an accident. They are always driving around campus, and are readily available to assist you in the event of any emergency.
Great for these types of students The school is perfect for students who want a well rounded education, multiple options for the same class to work around your schedule, and really want to be pushed acedemically to perform to their full potential.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know that there are any, I don't participate in clubs or other student organizations like sororities.
Bang for the buck Pricing keeps going up, not something that can really be avoided. In most classes I feel like I got my money's worth, but there are some classes where I feel like I learned nothing.
What to do for fun naps on the lawn in the sunshine, or even just studying at the library; it's nice to be able to focus in a quite place.
Food and Dining I don't eat here often. Food is a bit pricey and isn't great, I use the cafeteria as a last resort.
Academic Rigor My elective classes are not only interesting subjects, but they push me to not only read assigned material, but to look up additional information to better understand the topic; being prepared for class with what you know, makes it better because you can contribute to the lecture.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you meet with your advisor. Pick a major, you can always change it later. Try to follow that exact layout plan for courses you have to take, this will ensure you graduate in four years, possibly earlier if you take summer classes.
In three sentences One of the best colleges that I hve ever attended. The course options are perfect and interesting. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The officers on campus are great!
Greek Life It's good and there, but right now it's small.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of my favorite parts of campus is the bluff (mostly the backside of it) but the view from the top of the bluff it beautiful. Another favorite spot of mine is sitting on the wall looking over Austin Bluffs Pkwy by University Hall.
What to do for fun There is always something going on on campus. Look in the campus newspaper or on the website for the fun. Otherwise people who live on campus are normally hanging out on the lawn or the turf.
Food and Dining The dorm food is good the first week and then it just goes downhill from there. But around campus there are some very good places to eat like The Overlook Cafe and Clyde's.
Dorm Life It's a wonderful experience it you are in a dorm room with people you are compatible with. There are many good friends made by living on campus and the experiences and lessons learned are priceless.
Academic Rigor The classes are more or less rigorous based on the major they are under. Most of the time the professors teach enough to make it very possible to pass. They are always there to help.
Tips for prospective students GET INVOLVED! There are so many fun things to do around campus like dance parties and BBQ's and movie nights. It's also a great way to make new friends.
In three sentences The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs has many great career opportunities that not a lot of people hear about. The housing life is also growing as the campus expands. UCCS is a great school to go to because tuition isn't that bad and the degree programs are really good.

Clubs and Activities The online school has the same clubs and activities as being on campus - the only difference is virtual - which, to me, is more exciting - my family can also participate in the events.
Great for these types of students The online classes are perfect for those who hold down a full-time job, have small children at home or just do not like sitting in a classroom. Taking classes online allows an individual to set their own study time that fits into their personal schedule.
Bang for the buck I am 61 years and decided to return to school as an example to my children. I have earned my Associates in Business Administration and Paralegal studies, but decided that Criminal Justice may be geared more to my liking. I would like to be able to stay in school, but finances may make it difficult.
Food and Dining Online student
Dorm Life Online student
Academic Rigor I rate that as 5 star - the courses are rigorous, but they are doable.
Tips for prospective students Before doing anything, set up your financial aid. Decide what field you want to go into and plan on doing a lot of studying in order to achieve high grades.
In three sentences Their student advisors care about the quality of education, as well as the professors. I have had professors who will tell the class that whenever they need help, to call, no matter what time of day or night. The courses are challenging and the chat sessions are a tremendous help to learning the assignments.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I am always updated through texts about what is going on near or on campus. Also, campus police are always on campus driving around.
Greek Life Greek life is small but is growing. I am a member of Pi Beta Phi and I love being a part of the Greek life here on campus. It really helped me branch out and meet people from all over and it got me involved with my school!
Bang for the buck They are expanding the campus a lot. The classrooms are much newer than most schools and same with the dorms.
What to do for fun There are a lot of places to hike surrounding the campus. There is also the rec center which has intramural sports. Also, you can go snowboarding or skiing at the resorts near school.
Food and Dining The lodge was probably the worst place to eat every day. The food was always cold, greasy, and gross. Their breakfast was their best meal. The overlook always has good food and Clyde's does as well.
Dorm Life The dorms are what you make of it. Keeping your door open and walking around really helps when it comes to meeting new students.
Academic Rigor As a science major the classes are tough and time consuming. However, they are definitely do able.
Tips for prospective students Get involved as soon as possible. Meeting new people quick and doing new things is the key to really getting the best out of college.
In three sentences It's a beautiful school with helpful and encouraging teachers. The classes are small enough so teachers and professors know your name. The students on campus are outgoing and there is always something going on.

Great for these types of students Out-door lovers, such a gorgeous campus
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hiking up on the bluff is a must for all new comers as well as doing the Incline in Manitou Springs
Bang for the buck Pretty expensive housing for not the best experience in the dorms.
What to do for fun Attend athletic events as well as the concerts on the lawn and the Air Force football games.
Food and Dining Decent for dorm food, needs more variety though.
Dorm Life The lodge food could use some more variety and better food. And really could use some AC in the dorms, with some white paint on the walls instead of the ugly grey.
Academic Rigor Great professors, the writing center REALLY helps.
Tips for prospective students Enroll for classes as soon as possible. Freshman: Walk from lot 9 when there isn't any parking on level 5; the parking tickets aren't worth it. Support your athletics teams as much as possible!
In three sentences It's a very beautiful campus with many activities and various things to do off campus. Academically challenging with opportunities to help you achieve your academic goals. Only negative is they don't have ANY parking for students living in the dorms.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety as UCCS is good. I feel safe on campus. In addition, they offer rides to students if they feel uncomfortable walking and offer self defense classes.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs at UCCS. There are also many activities. The career fairs, I thought, were most beneficial.
What to do for fun Things to do for fun at the school are go to a sporting event, or the gym.
Food and Dining Food and dining is not the best at UCCS!!! However, they have started to provdie healthier choices and are trying to improve this.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not that great at all. It is also very expensive!!! My advise would be to find a place off campus - you save alot and meet just as many people!
Tips for prospective students Be strong, hang in there and do not listen to anyone. Keep your goals in view and never forget them because you will run into professors and/or faculty members at UCCS that want to bring you down; don't let them!
In three sentences UCCS is a good school. However, many of the departments I felt had a big ego. Thus, they made it much harder and stressful than it really needed to be. Many times in my career at UCCS I felt discouragment from faculty members and professors. I did not feel like many people there wanted to help me succeed. I never did transfer because I just wanted to finish my undergraduate at one place, but if I could do it all over again I would have went to a different school. However, going to UCCS has made me a stronger person.

Food and Dining Same as Above.

Although the school has not reached 10,000 students yet, the university provides many services that are crucial to the success of students and provides an opportunity none of the other branches can offer. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are plenty of campus security and precautions here, but there is hardly ever anything like that happening. Plus, it's Colorado so most people are pretty friendly and understand that everyone is going about their own business. So you don't get bothered when you don't want to, yet the people are friendly so you can make friends with most anybody if you really wanted to.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of intramural activities here and all of them but a couple are free to students. If sports are your thing, there's no shortage of them here.
Great for these types of students If your an outdoors sort of person, you'll absolutely love it here! Beautiful sunsets almost every night and the view over the valley up to Pikes Peak is almost soothing.
What to do for fun Being in Colorado right next to Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, there's plenty of outdoor/physical activities to do like hiking, biking, and any number of sports with open areas all around campus to play at. UCCS does a good job at planning activities as well, usually worth your while. The best part is that it's in a fancier area so there are plenty of shopping places around to meet your needs.
Food and Dining The Cafeteria food quality is inconsistent and doesn't have a whole lot of options. The snack bars and other dining places around campus, however, are quite delicious. You can get a meal plan with flex dollars to have some money for those places as well.
Dorm Life I live in the apartment style dorms so I'm not sure about the quality of the freshman dorms here, but the apartment ones are actually really nice. My favorite part is that you each get your own room and closet. You only have to share a bathroom/shower with one person and then the kitchen/living room with 3 people at the most. That doesn't include that these dorms have one of the best views on campus.
Academic Rigor The classes in here tend to vary in difficulty like anywhere else. I have classes where everything is done in class so there's no homework. I also have classes that you get a little project every couple weeks. others base your grade mostly on the few tests and quizzes throughout the semester, so it really depends on your teacher's style of teaching.
Tips for prospective students My number one tip is to stay on top of your classes. Procrastination is one of the biggest things that can hurt your grade, not to mention add a lot of unnecessary stress. I know, because I'm one of the worst ones at this. The grades come easy if you stay on top of it.
In three sentences It is a gorgeous campus with beautiful people to match it. The facilities are top notch both in look and in function. I Thoroughly enjoy being here.

UCCS always has something going on for student life. They also send out a weekly email stating the coming weeks events, which can also be found posted in the ROAR office of UC.
Food and Dining UCCS offers multiple ares to stop and grab something to eat. Whether it be at one of the coffee shops for a sandwich, The Lodge for a wide selection for lunch, or catching the game while enjoying a meal at Clyde's you wont run out of options, and if you think you do you can always leave and pick something up at the countless restaurants not five minutes from campus
Dorm Life While most of the students that attend UCCS drive to campus I've heard great stories about the dorms. They arent as large as your typical dorms so I'm told it's easier to get acquainted with others living there. They are also very close to many classes.
Academic Rigor How rigorous the courses can be are completely dependent on your major and how much work you put into the course. I put three stars because if you study and pay attention in lectures it is quite easy to end up with good and even great grades. However, Ive also seen many people struggle because they didn't put in the effort required.
Tips for prospective students The biggest tips I would give prospective students is to join a club and interact with your fellow peers. Make sure you use the writing center and all of the University's resources if you need them as they are very helpful.
In three sentences UCCS is an amazing university that enables the student to excel in his/her field of interest. Not only do they offer a wide range of majors but the class sizes are relatively small giving a closer connection with your peers and professors. They also have a wide range of clubs for students to join and create connections.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus safety is wonderful! There are emergency help boxes all around and if you don't feel safe walking back from class alone at night you can call and get a police officer to walk you back. ( or if there is to much snow to walk back they can help you with that)
Clubs and Activities So many clubs and activities to do for all types of cultures, religions, and hobbies.
Great for these types of students Great for people who dont want to be in a big school environment.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For homecoming, we have a male beauty pagent . And it is not uncommon to see people playing the screaming chicken game all around the dorms. The screaming chicken game is incredibly fun and is sorta on the down low.
Bang for the buck College is expensive but i feel like with all of the facilities that you can use and the size of the dorm rooms and the well educated teachers its definitely worth the money. and laundry is free in summit village.
What to do for fun There is always people outside on the turf or on west lawn playing Frisbee or some other sport that you can just get in on. you can also go down to four diamonds (the sports complex on campus) and see our schools teams play. Our Rec Center is AMAZING! and there is a water slide, a huge hot-tub and zumba and yoga classes!
Food and Dining The food is so diverse and very accesible. There are 3 resurant type places to eat and 3 coffee places as well. Its also not very expensive if people just come to visit.
Dorm Life The dorms here are great! the rooms are smaller than what you are used to at home but they provide plenty of space for all your stuff! the common areas in the suites are great for doing homework or taking a quick nap on the couch. Not to mention you just share a bathroom with your roommates.
Academic Rigor All of my classes now are more difficult then they were in high school but they are by no means impossible. If you utilize our schools facilities and your teachers office hours your classes will be a breeze.
Tips for prospective students Don't retake your SATs and ACTs to beat your friends scores! compare your scores with our schools and if you are in the upper 1/4 dont worry about retaking them! if you are sure this is where you want to go dont stress about them.
In three sentences UCCS is a great small campus with lots of great people! The professors are friendly and helpful and there is so much to do here. Everything you do on campus is within a 10 minute walk (including the fantastic rec. center) and a 10 minute drive from all your favorite stores and restaurants.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always look in the back seat of your car before you get in. Know how to defend yourself. Keep your electronics locked in your trunk. Don't carry large sums of money....like a college student has any. Try to never go any place alone.
Clubs and Activities I just hang with friends. We are easily entertained.
Great for these types of students Embrace your college moments. They will help transition you into the rest of your life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am a new freshman so I have no preconceived notions. Everything is unusual and becoming a new tradition. I love college.
Bang for the buck Remember this isn't high school. The friends you make here are not like the friends you made in high school. People at college have a better mentality than those in high school. We are here to get an education because we want to not because we have to.
What to do for fun Make lots of friends and hang with them. We are college students we are creative and can always make our own entertainment.
Food and Dining Eat healthy. You have a choice.
Dorm Life Don't worry about who your room mates are going to be you will make friends. You can study in the library if you have noisy room mates. The beds are comfortable and the rooms clean.
Academic Rigor If you pace yourself it is not that difficult a curriculum however it does require some studying.
Tips for prospective students Operate using the KISS method. Keep it simple stupid. You don't need to bring everything you own to school. Don't buy alot of stuff for school and save the money for tuition. You really won't need all the stuff but you do need to pay for college.
In three sentences This is a friendly college, user friendly. Staff are helpful, insightful and courteous. Although a bit expensive the education is worth it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety In the past campus safety was great but I am also a professional body guard and teach some self defense to women, children and men.
Greek Life My greek life is my happy life. I live for me to live for others in need.
Clubs and Activities I am an on-line student and I have experience those activities in the past but I do participate with my childrens activites in high school.
Great for these types of students Happiness is a great tool to utilize and pass on to individuals that need that extra warmth to get through the day.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am pretty much clear and opened to anything that is positive and enjoy putting smiles on others faces.
Bang for the buck I am the type of person that loves to place others first but family is important! My family is my motivation and I love to protect and help save lives. I believe in giving before I take from others.
What to do for fun I love to spend lots of time with my three princesses and grandson. The activities that I do daily are swimming, spending time at the gym weight lifting and doing Cardio. But music is my relaxation.
Food and Dining I am attending an Colorado Technical University on-line
Dorm Life Not in the dorms but have been in the past and it is great to be around fellow students that care and love to move forward in life especially when they know where they are going!
Academic Rigor Awesome
Tips for prospective students Never to give up and always remember that there is a positive reward at the end of each goal that you complete.
In three sentences I love this school. They care about there students and take pride in keeping up with you! Technical support is very nice and helpful as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can be escorted by the police if you do not feel safe; plus there are buttons you can press to notify them of any danger. There is also a website you can go to for notifications and other resources to help you. A program is offered in the Recreation Center also helps you with self-defense, which is another great attribute to the university.
Clubs and Activities People are very enthusiastic and social--clubs are where you will most definitely find them. You can make friends, do community service, and other activities. One of my roommates went on a retreat with her club members and had plenty of fun.
Great for these types of students 1. Outdoorsy 2. Social (because if you are not, you will probably be bored until an event is held at the university) 3. Hard-working (unless you are going into a very easy major like some people I know) 4. World-friendly/Tree-huggers (the university is big on sustainability--compost, recycle, and saving light energy) 5. Walkers (it is a distance to get anywhere--unless you live in the Aspen residence where the lodge is conveniently close--with hills, stairs, endless sidewalks, and mountain-y paths)
Bang for the buck College is usually overpriced. Take the bookstore for instance. And the dorms. Since I live in Colorado, it is cheaper than out of state and some universities locally.
What to do for fun Plan events with your friends and go out. This university is not too fun, though do not get me wrong, there are awesome events. Go to the movies, join clubs, and hang out. Me and my roommates make Fridays 'Movie Night' and invite anyone we know.
Food and Dining It is good, but it gets very repetitive after a while. The courses do not change very much and I have been eating fries with every meal for most of the time I have been here (even with my salads--they have good fries).
Dorm Life The dorms are not the best. I mean, you can adapt quickly, but they won't have you amazed. The college apartments are much better, but you have to wait until the next year to get one. Bring decorations, just a heads-up. The good thing about dorms is that there are safety checks, fire alarms that are really loud, and it is easier to hear about events going on in campus due to the R.A.
Academic Rigor I am in the Bachelors of Innovation and it is a pretty rigorous track to go into. The classes really set you to work, but it is all worth it when all is said and done. There are some majors where students do little to nothing though.
Tips for prospective students TIP#1: Remember to get all the money you need for school. The university is not very helpful at getting you financial aid or recommending places to get the rest of the money. This is specifically for the students that FAFSA automatically (and unfairly) assumes are rich. TIP#2: Sleep! It is not only healthy for you and your immune system, but also for focus in class. This is for those classes that have little interaction and more lecture. TIP#3: Study and do homework. Yes, you will still have a social life after you get your homework and studying out of the way. If you are worried about not having a social life, try to study and finish homework early--I do that and it comes in handy. TIP#4: Go into a major that will get you a job. I know that people say, Do what you love, but sometimes what you love won't get you a job. I decided to minor in what I love and major in Computer Security. It'll be better for you to get a decent-paying job than to be looking for dead-end ones that have nothing to do with what you studied. TIP#5: Try not to fail or drop classes. If you are about to fail though, drop it. TIP#6: Exercise!
In three sentences I rate this university an 8 because: most of my teachers are very good at what they do and when they are not, there are other resources, from peers to tutors. The school is a little boring and you have to seek out events, and when there are events, it is not publicized very well. Financial aid does not help me very much either, but other than that, I like the school.

Great for these types of students outdoors, loves tutoring
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the march! get free t-shirts and walk together to the soccer field for homecoming.
What to do for fun there is SOOO many different things that the school offers.
Food and Dining somewhat okay. but food is food.
Dorm Life I basically live in an apartment, so it's pretty sweet.
Academic Rigor I'm not sure what this means.
Tips for prospective students take the help that is offered, the tutoring is already a part of your tuition so might as well use it!

Categories Comments Campus Safety As a whole, the campus is really, really safe. There are emergency boxes (lit up with a blue light) where you can hit a button and get help immediately. Public safety is quick to repsond to a call if its in an emergency situation. However, they are not very responsive to noise complaints and drug abuse on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs here at UCCS! We have everything ranging from international clubs, academic clubs, greek life, etc. If you can think of it, we have a club for it. I think everyone should get involved in at least one club because they are so fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cafe 65 is my favorite place to eat on campus. It has tons of choices and the food is always amazing.
Bang for the buck College will be expensive no matter where you go nut I feel UCCS is both accurately and fairly priced for the experience and education you are getting.
What to do for fun Rec center has fantastic work out equipment and the pool is really fun. There are also theater performances & art gallery showings that are free to UCCS students.
Food and Dining The food in the Lodge is awesome if you do not have any dietary restrictions. They have lots of options, foods from a variety of cultures, and they consistenly have good pizza, burgers, fries, and salad bar.
Dorm Life I dislike dorm life. UCCS doesn't use room mate matching so all of your room mates are randomly selected. IF you have a conflict with your room mate and your RA cannot help you solve it, the housing staff are useless. They often choose sides and don't make it a fair and safe enviroment. If you get good room mates and you all get along perfectly, then its a non issue. But you are taking a gamble.
Academic Rigor I would say that courses are average. I have a few classes that are at the same level as highschool of even less. Only a few classes truly require a lot of work or out side studying. But I am a Comm major so I suppose it truly does depend on your major.
Tips for prospective students I would reccomend living off campus - housing on campus may seem like a good idea but housing staff isn't very friendly when you need assistance with something or you need help to resolve an issue.
In three sentences UCCS is awesome because it is located in a great area of Colorado Springs. There are a lot of off campus housing options nearby. There are also lots of off campus activites to do around town!

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are intramural sports, clubs to join, clubs to start, as well as visiting with your hall neighbors and hanging out in each others rooms.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to go on campus as well as places near campus that are satisfying to your dining needs.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty exciting. As a student who has really lived at home with the same people for 18 years or so, moving into the dorms is a new experience. If you have great roommates like I do then you're fine, if not then you are able to switch at the end of the first semester.
Academic Rigor Academically, UCCS is moderately rigorous. Again it depends on the major you are taking.
Tips for prospective students For UCCS, it depends on the major you are taking. If you are a biology major, like I am, the courses are only hard if you don't study as much as you can for each quiz, test, or exam. In other words, don't slack when it comes to doing work outside of class.
In three sentences I would have to say as my first choice in colleges UCCS is a great college. As a freshman here I have been able to meet new people and have lots of connections on campus with staff and students. The connections have allowed me to get more in depth with my classes by being comfortable within my learning environment enabling me to ask questions and not be afraid to do so.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food on campus is quite expensive, but there is a huge variety of what you can get, from pastries at the cafe, to a burger and fries, or even sub sandwiches. And the quality of the food is exceptional.
Dorm Life I've never lived in the dorms, but from peers I have heard that dorm life is fantastic.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging, and you will definitely have to study to pass your classes, but professors are pretty much always available to help students.
Tips for prospective students Definitely utilize your resources. The library, math learning center and center for excellence are a few of the great places to get help on campus. The library can even get you books from different libraries if they don't have what you're looking for.
In three sentences UCCS is great for all kinds of students. There are lots of different centers for excellence, so getting help with any subject is easy.

Food and Dining College dining is great at first, but nothing is as good as ahome cooked meal.
Dorm Life Dorms are great and you get to meet a lot of new cool people. It is the best way to have a good time. Eventually you will want your own space though!
Academic Rigor Schoolwork will always be hard and overwhelming. Don't get tied up in partying too much as your work will be the most important thing in the end.
Tips for prospective students Take school seriously, because later on in life it will just be harder.
In three sentences This college is close to family and friends, and nothing beats being close to home. It offers a lot of great programs and is affordable school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is the best. If you feel uncomfortable to walk to your dorm at night then you can call the campus for a drive to the dorms. If there is any issues as stalked; getting a hold of the police officers is easy and they would help quickly and efficiently.
Food and Dining The food is great, but there are those moments where the food could use some improvement. And nothing is better than having those meals on campus that remind people of home cooking.
Dorm Life The dorm life in my opinion is an experience that every student should experience. You have the sense of responsibility. You would be able to be more social to other people on campus.
Academic Rigor The course that is taken can be tricky, but having your professor there to explain the material and classmates to help; would give boost to being successful.
Tips for prospective students I would make sure you ask a lot of questions to the people who represent the school. Ask about how the campus life is, to meet a couple of professors that are teaching the major you want to have your degree on, ask about their programs, and what are some tips they have to stay in the University.
In three sentences The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a good University. The professors that i have met do care about the academics they are teaching. In the University you have some assistance with the professors and students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is taken very seriously here. The Campus police notify students and faculty of any potential dangers through email almost immediately and the campus has had little to no major incidents since my stay here.
Greek Life There are fraternities and such here, but because I'm with my church group often I can't say how involved they are, except that I know there are several on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a TON of clubs here. I was a part of the SPLAT video game club for a while, and they treat their members well. There is a club for just about everyone.
Great for these types of students Students who want to go to a cheaper college to get a good degree in some engineering or nursing major, save more money, and have the out doors of Colorado available to them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There aren't really any weird traditions on campus, in large part due to the fact not a lot of people live on campus, so on campus traditions are not developed since the college is just now starting to bloom in popularity.
Bang for the buck You're paying for a lot when it comes to the University Center. Plus you have the free hiking trails and beauty of Colorado to enjoy.
What to do for fun The University Center has ping pong, rock climbing, Foosball, sports leagues, and a large workout area. You're already paying for it with tuition so might as well use it! Also there are tons of hiking trails and out door activities in Colorado that are FREE.
Food and Dining Sodexo took over all the food services this semester. Before the food was just okay, but now the food is good, just over priced and NOT healthy. Personally if you want to save money just make your own lunch. The dorm food is pretty poor to average cafeteria food, whereas the two other dining choices (Cafe, Sodexo, and Bar) are just average. There are plenty of off campus options for dining, like some good burger joints and Chipotle. Again though, I'd recommend making your own food to save money and be healthier if you can.
Dorm Life The majority of people live off campus here. The dorms are small, and the community is not as close or fun perhaps as you'd get out of a larger state college. However they are expanding the dorms to attract more out of state people, but the food and life in dorms is just average or below.
Academic Rigor In the computer science department there is a mixed batch here. Some teachers are awesome, and I've had some horrible teachers. The level of difficulty seems to depend mostly on the teacher and how much you study (who would've thought!) I'd say the academics are certainly decent here and the programs seem to be improving over the last 2.5 years I've been here.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus first to get an idea of the location of the school. If you're an engineering major, you'll spend most of your time in the Engineering building, so visit there and explore the class rooms. This building is the oldest so it's not as modern as the other buildings. I'd recommend also NOT living on campus and finding a way to commute if you can. You can save a lot of money this way. Four diamonds is a place you can park for free and take the bus to save paying the over priced parking permit (360$ a year I believe).
In three sentences The University has great programs for Engineering and Nursing. This college is especially recommended to students who live in state and would like not to live on campus. The campus is also modern and the local out door activities are abundant for hiking, skiing/snowboarding, and the university has a top notch work out facility for those interested.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There aren't too many psychos on campus, but if you ever feel unsafe you can always call campus security.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs you can join on pretty much any random topic you can think of. It's also pretty easy to start your own.
What to do for fun There's a rec center with a gym, weight room, and a swimming pool. There's also a video game area and pool tables in the university center. There's a decent amount of school organized events it kind of dies down after the first week of the fall semester.
Food and Dining The food in the lodge can get a bit old after a while, but there are plenty of other restaurants on campus
Dorm Life The freshman dorms are pretty nice, they are well kept and clean. They also have free cable.
Academic Rigor There are plenty of majors and programs of study to choose from. The class sizes are small (most of the time) and the professors are good (at least all the ones I've had are).

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Security is serious about what they do. You can call 24/7 and can get escorts to walk you to your car if you do not feel comfortable. There are also several emergency phone stations to make you feel even safer.
Greek Life We do have Greek Life. There are no houses for them on campus though.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs that you can join, you just have to find the right one. We used to have a beard lover's club, so if you had a beard or just liked beards you could participate! There really is a selection for everyone.
Great for these types of students Outdoorsy, Athletic, Nursing students, Engineer students, and anyone who would enjoy a well-sized school in a growing city
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Foam dance party every fall, and the turf is a great place to study play football or tan.
Bang for the buck If you are in-state, which most students are, you can get a good education with great resources for a 'bargain'.
What to do for fun The OSA (office of student affairs) is great about hosting events throughout the year. You can do 'The March', where you walk down to Four Diamonds and cheer on the women and men soccer teams and later go to the bonfire. They also have free movie nights, with popcorn, candy, and drinks provided. There are several hiking trails nearby, and you can hike The Bluff which is right where campus is situated. You can definitely find something to do on campus or in town.
Food and Dining The Lodge is the cafeteria located in Summit Village, the food is really average and provided by sodex-ho. Clyde's is a restaurant and pub that is pretty popular there are pool tables and flat screen tv's throughout the area. They also have game night's, poetry readings, etc. They just redid a cafe in the University Center, it is now called Cafe 65. Decent food at o.k. prices. They play good music and the environment is fun and modern. There are also several coffee shops across campus. The most popular is Jazzman's which is right down the stairs from Cafe 65. They have a large selection of coffee and some danish's, sandwiches, and yogurt. Essentially, you have a good variety of places to eat.
Dorm Life I personally never lived in the dorms. Summit Village largely consists of Freshman; however, Alpine Village is where Sophomores+ live. UCCS also just bought and now owns the majority of an apartment complex, Sunset Creek, which they call Timberline Village. There is a free shuttle service from Sunset Creek to campus and is a quick walk from The University Village. Overall, the dorms are nice, there isn't anything particularly unique about them. And all of my friends who live on campus like their neighbors and how many events that are provided for them and students who live off-campus.
Academic Rigor It can be difficult if you don't study for tests and don't show up to class. It's like any other university, you need to put the effort into your class to get the most you can out of it.
Tips for prospective students You need to visit campus. I have lived in the Springs my entire life and was extremely opposed to attending UCCS. However, after visiting and seeing the environment they have created I knew that this is where I needed to go.
In three sentences UCCS has really grown into itself within the last several years. It has become a more modern and larger school, while still retaining it's charm and wonderful location. The several additions and campaigning for younger students has made it a great local, state and national university.

Categories Comments Greek Life There is a small greek life on campus, but the ones who are there are proud to be there and are heavily involved around campus.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of clubs to choose from. If you are unable to find one that interests you then start your own.
What to do for fun Join a club. There are hundreds of clubs and organizations on campus. Find one that is interesting and go to the meetings.
Food and Dining There isn't a whole lot of (good) dining options on campus. The main place to go is Clyde's which is the pub on campus. It's a great place to go when you want to hang out with your buddies. Other than on campus there is the University Village down the road that has a few dining options.
Academic Rigor I am personally not the best student, but every professor I have had has been great and has truly tried their best to help out each and everyone of their students.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Don't just go to your classes then go home. Get involved with clubs and other activities that go on around campus. It'll make your college experience that much better!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UCCS is great for students who like to try new things. There are many clubs and a wide variety of classes to explore. It has a very tight community feeling even though it is a large school. It is also great for students who want smaller classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Disorientation week during the second week of the semester. There are all kinds of free events from concerts, movies, parties, and lots of free food. The best place to hang out is around West Lawn because that is where most of the events take place.
Food and Dining There are a lot of great places to eat on campus, and a lot of groups and people who just give away free food.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms so I do not have first hand experience, but I have heard great things form many of the students.
Academic Rigor Even though the staff is really helpful the classes are challenging with many projects and papers. A lot of things seemed to be do at the same time and tests in different classes usually happen on the same day so studying can be frantic.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the center for students success. The writing center is great for help with any piece of writing, even if it is not academic, and the math center has great tutors and sample problems to study with. The only thing the school lacks is staplers so bring one with you.
In three sentences University of Colorado Colorado Springs is a fast changing school there are always new things to do in campus and new parts of the school being build. The people are friendly and the staff really wants to help. It is a great place to transition out on high school.

Tips for prospective students Know why you are in school. Then connect with other students in your field.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for all types of Students; especially those who are looking to stay close to home, and have a car to drive to classes.
Bang for the buck Tuition is super cheap compared to other Universities.
What to do for fun There is not much to do other than leave campus with friends. Stay plugged in.
Tips for prospective students Always make sure to keep up with homework, and with ethics of teachers. Make sure that they know who you are, and are paying attention to you. Be heard, and learn.
In three sentences The campus is big and full of opportunities, but can lead to students getting lost in the crowd. For being there for only one semester so far I have had three professor issues already, none of which were easily fixed. So far it has not been a good experience, but I am hoping for a better one next semester.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is wonderful. We always have police going around 24/7. You have your Resident Advisors who are there on call 24/7. You can always manage to feel safe here.
Clubs and Activities We have a club fair once every semester and there is at least 60 clubs here already on campus. Everyone can find something to do. If you don't find two other people and you can start your own club.
Bang for the buck I think it's definitely worth it to come to this school. You get your money's worth. They have so many ways to help you through your first year experience. There is so many fun activities and I think everyone can find their own way of fitting in here.
What to do for fun This school has many trips to skiing and snowboarding. You can hike here or go chill in the pool, hang out in the hot tubs. Or have movie nights in the grass. There is something here for everyone.
Food and Dining We have a lot of coffee shops stationed all around campus. We also have a meal room called Clyde's Diner and it gives you a great restuarant experience without the restuaraunt cost. Plus, we have Cafe 65 which has great food also. The only downfall is the lodge where most of the food is nasty.
Dorm Life The amount of space in the dorms are a little too small. They are currently building more dorms at this moment though. So who knows about next year. You have to just be careful of who you will be rooming with. If you don't like your roommates it's pretty easy to respect them from a distance.
Academic Rigor The classes here can be difficult. Especially for those who were taught one way, then have to learn another. As long as you take the time to study then you should be fine. We have a lot of tutoring options here and most teachers will work with you.
Tips for prospective students Really, go to class and study at least once a week for each class you take. Make new friends here and go to a few of the activities here. Most of them are really fun to go to.
In three sentences While currently the dorm situations they have here aren't the best. It is a lovely area and the majority of the teachers' are terrific. I love it at this school and think many others would too.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is helpful for noise complaints and are definitely on top of their game for parking tickets so be careful of those rules.
Greek Life There are 2 Greek life places for each gender but no houses so personally, I don't see the point in paying for the membership.
Clubs and Activities It only takes two people to create a club so there is quite a bit of diversity in that area. The intramural sports are fun to cooperate with too.
Great for these types of students Nursing, Engineering, PGA and Sport Management (due to Olympic Training Center and Pro sports connections)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The best thing that comes to mind is the FOAM dance party. The sticky, slippery foam was something new for my dance experience.
Bang for the buck It's one of the cheapest CO schools but it always helps to be onstage to get the extra scholarships.
What to do for fun You definitely need to make a few friends but most of my spare time is spent at school dances, events, sports etc. Off campus there is the typical movies, malls, and my favorite... PAINTBALLING!!
Food and Dining The lodge (main dining area for the meal plan) is mediocre. It is run by Sodexo and rumor has it that they are the same ones to work in the jails in CO.
Dorm Life My best friends in college have been the people I share my room with or live right down the hall from. The RAs are helpful for everything from directions on campus to advice for life.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major and what classes you take, the classes can be easy or hard based on how much you actually want to work for the good grade.
Tips for prospective students Stay updated on the different events the school offers because most are great ways to be more social and save a couple bucks.
In three sentences UCCS is great university for medium sized classes and professors who are easy to talk to. The dorms are a great place to make friends and be close to people of like minds. The campus weather is unpredictable and the food at the lodge is mediocre at best but it's worth it in the long run.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are lots of clubs and events to get involved with here. There's a club fair every semester and your receive an email every week with new things going on on campus.
Food and Dining I very rarely eat on campus.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor There are some difficult classes here, but there are also lots of easy a's. Of course, the academic rigor will be decided by the classes you decide to take and obviously, I can't speak for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of your resources. UCCS has labs for every subject and professors have office hours you can take advantage of. There's no reason you can't get something done here with so many resources at your fingertips.
In three sentences UCCS wasn't my first choice for school, but I was surprised. There are a lot of good instructors here, and tons of resources at your disposal. My only complaint is that there isn't enough campus life.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Join clubs and organizations. The campus is next to plenty of hiking trails. Not too far from ski resorts
Food and Dining Horrible food at the lodge
Dorm Life Great dorm rooms with space and private bathrooms. They are currently building new dorms that should be done by fall of 2013.
Academic Rigor As a science major, my classes are very demanding and require time outside class.
Tips for prospective students Get involved with campus activities and you will have a blast!
In three sentences Smaller class sizes and a smaller campus are great! You don't have to worry about running across a large campus to make your next class. It is also expanding the amount of dorms, parking and a new medical campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Students are notified immediately if there is ever an emergency. Campus security actively patrols the entire area and at no time do I feel like I am not safe.
Greek Life Since UCCS is a smaller school in comparison to most major colleges, the Greek life is small but present. There are many Honor Societies that students can join as well to help bolster resumes and experiences.
Clubs and Activities There are countless clubs and activities that appeal to everyone. The announcement boards across campus are a great way to find out what events are going on and are always filled to the brim. There is no shortage of community events and activities.
Great for these types of students Students looking for a secure and warm environment will fit right in. I am a rather shy person but the level of comfort I have in this school really helps me come out of my shell.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are some great outdoor areas to gather and socialize. When it is cold out most of these areas are pretty empty but as the weather starts to warm up they are extremely busy and lively.
Bang for the buck I definitely feel that my investment is well placed. I genuinely feel like I am gaining knowledge that I can apply in the future to my career field. The resources the provide alone give a great amount of value to my education.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and activities spread across the entire year. I especially love when guest speakers come to give incredibly interesting presentations.
Food and Dining Great food and cafes are spread across campus. It really helps me stay attentive in class when I can grab a warm cup of coffee and a snack.
Dorm Life I do not live on campus.
Academic Rigor I don't feel an insane amount of pressure to be a good student. The desire to work hard comes naturally from the warm environment. I am able to learn without breaking my back.
Tips for prospective students Come to class, pay attention, and know your priorities. College is an opportunity cost, but try to make your time their as enjoyable and productive as possible.
In three sentences The perfect cross between a comfy and large school. I feel welcomed and at home when on campus. UCCS makes me truly want to receive a college education.
