There is nothing to do off campus

The friends I have made here, as well as the friendships that have developed while I have been here will last me for a lifetime. You can easily find a group of friends to hang out with and to support you along the way, but you have to be open and willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Be wary of the small cliques that will form around campus (the fraternities, sororities, etc.) and the plain unfriendly manner in which many people act towards you with - but that's just college. Make sure you can trust, and I mean absolutely trust the people you surround yourself with, especially roommates.. sooner or later you will find something missing. Lastly, make time to have fun.. realize that this is a transition and unless you are a genius, things will not be straightforward and easy. Maintain organization and be careful not to get addicted to drinking and partying, which is very easy to do here.

There is plenty to keep the students busy here at UConn - the campus supports a wide variety of interests from athletics to theatre to music. The social scene on weekends consists primarily of house parties or night out at the local bars, but the university provides alternative entertainment for students who would prefer a different atmosphere.

Though UConn is providing me with a great education, I am unhappy as a student here. Many people find that it is the school for them, while I am quite the opposite. UConn is too large of a school for a small-town girl like myself. My biology lecture is as large as my entire high school. I find it difficult to obtain the community feel I crave as a college student, given the fact that my class load takes up critical time for extra curricular activities which provide others with opportunities to find a community. There is a lot to do on campus, but I find that you really have to search for what's going on. UConn could do a bit better providing more information to students. I feel somewhat isolated as a freshman in an upper classmen dorm, which also adds to my lack of contentment with the college. I'm sure others would find that this school provides maximum independence and opportunity, but I need more structure.

Great people, friendly and helpful professors, lots of on-campus events to enjoy! You will never be bored with the amount of things to do, especially the student films playing at the Student Union each weekend!
