    Great for these types of students

    UConn is a great school for huge sports fans. It is also great for students who are independent and love to get involved.

    Get INVOLVED! It might make the difference between loving the school and hating it.
    Bang for the buck

    The food is good (depending which dining hall you decide to go to) and there's almost always something to do(if you open your mind!) Even with the huge classrooms, it is easy to get in contact with the professors. I only wish there was more to do off of campus. UConn is completely surrounded by fields and cows, not much else.
    Am enjoying being here

    Once again, this completely depends on the student. Involvement is a big part of whether you enjoy it here or not. Some students don't like it here because they feel bored and don't have a lot of friends. The school may be big and overwhelming at first, but it's important to find a few clubs or organizations (choose from over 300!) that you enjoy and can meet people in. Sports and school spirit are huge here, so if you love to watch UConn sports events, this is a great place to do it. Even if you don't participate in the sports events much, there is still SO much to do.
    Am learning a lot

    The classes are very in depth. With the size of the classes, there isn't much one one one time with the professor, if any, so how much you learn depends completely on you. You can choose to stay on top of things on your own or you can utilize the vast amount of resources that UConn supplies for students to help with their studies. If you need extra help, then it isn't hard to contact the professor or a TA. If you choose not to pay attention and learn, then you won't and your grades will show it.

    Great for these types of students

    Social, outgoing students will feel perfectly at home here. Those who tend to be a bit shy will also bloom and grow to be more assertive once they find their niche. Everyone in UConn finds something or other that they are passionate about, and students often make the best of friends from sharing similar interests, classes, or even living in the same residence hall. Also, those who are academically serious and like to challenge themselves should come here, since the courses at UConn are very different from what students in high school are accustomed to.
    Tips for prospective students

    Personally, being in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences allows me to be flexible in what classes I take. I can switch majors depending on what classes I have taken and not have to worry about wasting my time taking a certain class not within my major. Don't expect UConn to be a party school where your parents will foot the bill, since the university has established many programs for serious students who want careers in business, healthcare and medicine, pharmacy, engineering, and the fine arts. The other colleges that make up UConn as a whole (School of Business, Nursing, Pharmacy, etc.) also have their own specific programs and study plans, so whatever major you're planning on going into, there will be advisers and student mentors who are there to help you and provide motivation and support for those times when you feel overwhelmed.

    UConn provides so many different scholarships, grants, financial aid, and loans for academic, athletic, and many other categories. They are definitely more affordable than private colleges and going to a state school has the benefits of having more state-funded scholarships for students.
    Am enjoying being here

    There are so many people to meet and so many things to do on campus, and so little time! For the first month of school we had an involvement fair with many organizations welcoming us to join or participate in their groups, as well as activities and events like Late Night on Fridays. The Husky football and upcoming basketball games are exciting not to mention fun to go to with friends.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are on a whole new level compared to high school. Although the whole college experience will take some time to get used to, the classes provide a way for students to explore what they love most. Much of our homework and studies are done through online companion websites, so we don't have to lug heavy books around, just notebooks and writing utensils or laptops. Also, professors and the TA's have office hours to help any students with classes, we have a library for studying as well as the Q Center, which is very helpful for students who need to brush up on their math and quantitative skills or just understand a concept in math they've never learned before. At UConn, there is a lot of help provided for students if they just know where to look.

    Great for these types of students

    This school is great for students who are math, science or engineering majors, as there is a great program and great funding. Also, students looking for the traditional college experience on a big university campus would definitely like UConn. There are great parties, great athletics and you'll get a great education.

    I definitely would not apply here before touring. It's an awesome school but it's definitely not right for everyone and you can tell a lot about the school from the tour.

    UConn is a great deal on tuition, especially because I am instate. I save a lot of money because we have a great meal plan with unlimited access to the dining halls. I also save money when on campus because theres nothing really to spend money on around campus, there are no restaurants (besides take out places) or shopping areas unless you drive the half hour to the mall in Manchester or forty five minutes to Hartford.

    UConn is a VERY rural campus and it is important to know that it is difficult to get off campus once you're in the dorms unless you have a car. Students are not allowed to have a car until they have a certain amount of credits which ends up being around your junior year. This wouldn't be an issue if the campus were closer to a metropolitan area, however UConn is not. The city of Storrs is basically the college campus surrounded by farm land. This can get very tiring after a while as there's nothing really new and exciting around. Its also frustrating because any internships or professional jobs would be a commute from campus and leaves students with a lot less opportunity.
    Am learning a lot

    College is expected to be way different from high school on an academic level. However I never expected college courses to be so much more work than the AP courses I took in high school. UConn requires a really good work ethic in almost all courses. No matter what I have taken so far, even If it is recommended as an easy A, has required time and effort and made me really learn and understand the material. Also, because it is such a large school you have to teach yourself a lot of the material and can't rely on the professors to coach you through everything. It's really important to learn how to use the resources on campus because of how big the classes are such as the Q center or the W center for math and writing help, as well as always asking TA's questions. However, despite the increase in work load I don't think I have ever really learned so much, and what I have learned will definitely stick with me.

    If you love sports, like being around a lot of people, want to get involved, and want a school with excellent academics then UConn is a great place for you to go :)
    Tips for prospective students

    Do well on your SATs! Your scores are super important when applying. I also recommended taking a tour and coming to the open house. Big schools aren't for everyone, so check it out before you commit.

    Being on out-of-stater UConn is pretty expensive, but I fell in love with the school and couldnt imagine myself anywhere else

    I love living at UConn. The campus is large, but not so spread out that it is overwhelming. There is always something going on. You can see shows and performances, attend lectures, go see a movie at the student union theatre, and the sports are amazing! If you go here I recommended getting football and basketball tickets, and attending soccer and some of the other sports. All of our teams are amazing and there's lots of school spirit. There is also a great social scene on the weekends.
    Am learning a lot

    I'm a science major (Allied Health with a concentration in Physical Therapy) so the classes are pretty challenging but they are definitely manageable as long as you are a motivated student. The professors and TA's are really friendly and easy to approach if you have questions; they are very open to e-mails, seeing you after class or during office hours. Even though some of the classes are large the professors and TAs are still accessible. Also if you need extra help studying the Q Center, a tutoring center in the library, is run by students who excel in certain subjects and can go over your work with you.

    Great for these types of students

    Anyone whos out going, focused, loves sports, and likes to have fun while working hard will probably fit in and do well. Overall the student body is pretty friendly (with a few exception like any school), so I'd suggest it to anyone who fits some of those traits. If you tend to be really quiet are/or get distracted from working by parties, sports, or just easily by other things to do, then you may have some trouble here.

    Make sure you visit schools with an open mind, I didn't see my self going here when i toured at first, but I loved the tour. I went on a second one that was an open house with presentations on my major and now I'm here.

    Because the major I wanted to study wasnt available in New Hampshire, I get to go here for a reduced rate. Its called the New England Regional Student Tuition Break, or something similar to that. I strongly suggest that you look into it if you're out of state and in New England, otherwise still a good deal in or out of state from what people tell me.
    Am enjoying being here

    So far I love it here, sports are a big deal here so if you're into that you can't go wrong. Tons of different things to do and clubs to join. Greek life is certainly present but not necessary by any means, and if you like playing pick up basketball there is almost always a bunch of games around campus or at the rec center. Partying is pretty big here, but if you're not into that scene there is late night at the union which has other stuff to do. However numerous people who don't drink still go to parties to hang out with their friends so its up to you really. The food is also pretty good, nothing spectacular, but not bad at all.
    Am learning a lot

    As a freshman my classes are pretty big, but all the professors are good and are their to help you(some more than others), but they aren't there to hold your hand. If you want to learn and put in the effort the professors and Ta's will help you, never mind the countless other tutoring services like the Q and W centers which are great. No one will come and find you to make sure you're doing well, but if you want help, there are tons of people who are more than will to, you just need to put in the effort to actually go and ask someone for help.

    Great for those who are fun loving, would like to get involved in their college experience, those who like big schools, those who don't mind a rural setting and those who want to be part of something bigger than themselves!

    Get involved! There are literally hundreds of programs and clubs that will make your time here even more enjoyable. Put yourself out there as well. College is the time to meet new people and experience new things, some might be outside of your comfort zone but all of them will helo you grow and develop as a college student.

    When I was in the process of applying for colleges I only applied to two: Fordham, in the Bronx, and UConn, Storrs. One was a private school with a price tag of over $50,000 dollars and the other was a public institution with an incredible instate rate but being a Connecticut resident it had the stigma of being a back-yard university. At 18 the last thing I wanted to do was to go to school within half an hour of home. But because of my means it was the most affordable and cost effective way for me to get a higher education. Now, I do not regret my decision in the least. UConn one of the nation's TOP public schools and it is not just because of the athletic programs. The academics are amazing and the professors are insightful and professional. I came to the realization that at a certain point, the price of a university does not equal the value of your experience there. UConn is by far the best bang for your buck you can get.

    I absolutely LOVE UConn! Home of national champions (GO HUSKIES!), fun loving people of all backgrounds, and priceless educational resources. There is never really a dull moment at UConn either; there seems to always be something going on. The school does a great job of involving the students, bringing us together and making the semesters FLY by. If there is one thing I would knock about UConn, Storrs it would be that because it is such a large campus, walking from your dorm to class and simply getting around takes time and can be a little annoying. That being said, their shuttle system runs like clockwork and is a wonderful resource.
    Am learning a lot

    So far all the classes I have taken, regardless of how easy or hard they have been, have all taught me things that I never would have imagined I would learn, not only about the subject matter but of what it actually means to be a college student! In high school I found myself getting complacent and bored with my studies, especially when I would do poorly on something, but at UConn I have regained my love of knowledge and learning, something I thought I had surely lost.

    UConn is great for students who want to get out and meet Connecticut locals...and for those who don't. If you want to throw yourself into the crowd, go ahead. If you want to huddle in the study lounge with a close group of friends, do that. UConn is somewhat like high school in that it has a niche for every group. However, since UConn is so large, so are these groups. If you're an anime nerd, you may not have a lot of fellow anime nerds in high school. But guess what, there's a thriving anime club here! They've even got their own convention in the student union (look up U-Con at UConn). You can find any group of people to hang out with, from rabid sports fans to Justin Bieber fangirls to band geeks. There's a place for everyone at UConn.
    Tips for prospective students

    Space saving tips are relevant to every college, including UConn. Bring storage bins and the things you really need. You can bring a few novelties, like your own edition of Apples to Apples, a Johnathon the Husky doll, or body paint for those really intense sports games. But there's only so much room in every dorm room, especially if you're a freshman. (If you're going to be living in Buckley, you'll have a few more square feet to stretch your toes in; go ahead and bring your favorite larping boffer). On average, the dorms are about 11'x14' for two people. Each person gets their own desk, chair, dresser, and closet. But here's the wisdom I really want to impart to the next generation: Be ready for the weather. In the summer, the heat is nigh intolerable. Students will flock en masse to anywhere that has air conditioning (for example, I've seen kids sleeping in study lounges instead of their own rooms). I would recommend bringing a window fan. Because of this nifty device, my room was perhaps the coolest on the floor. The summer quickly chills to a nippy autumn. Definitely bring layers to wear. During this time of year, the day can be really warm. But as soon as the sun drops below the horizon, the temperature takes a nose dive. Bring rain boots for the rain, but I caution you on the use of umbrellas. Unless you want to invest in a really good one, don't bother. Storrs is a wind tunnel; it will destroy any cheap umbrella you try to force against its destructive power. Keep the weather in mind as you pack your bags for Storrs. It can change in an instant, so make sure you're prepared for anything. Anything.

    Because UConn is a state school, the state covers a good portion of expenses. Therefore, the students and their families don't have to pay such ludicrous amounts of money. However, I never felt like I was in a public school. The classes were never mediocre, the housing was never inhospitable, and the food wasn't all that bad. Not to mention, UConn is probably the most well known college in Connecticut. If you plan on staying in Connecticut in the future, UConn is one of the best places you can get your degree. Connecticut native employers know how reliable the university is. In fact, they may have even gone there themselves! Also, you will meet many other kids and adults who live in Connecticut. If you're a business major, this gives you a prime opportunity to start networking right away. Getting to know the Uconn populace is a great headstart to any connections you plan on making in the future. If you live in Connecticut and intend on staying here, UConn gives you the most bang for the buck.

    UConn is really what you make of it. If you don't want to be there, you probably won't enjoy it. On the other hand, if you find the right people, it could become the best time of your life. I met a ton of new people, people who have the same interests as me, people I never knew lived near me, people who I never thought I'd speak to. At first, it was a little disorienting. However, I soon realized my good fortune and jumped right into the fray. In my opinion, what makes UConn special are the people. You can go anywhere to study accounting or anywhere to watch a beautiful campus bloom. But there's only one place where you'll meet the diverse, energetic, and unique youth of Connecticut.
    Am learning a lot

    At UConn, first and second year curriculum consists of an ecclectic approach where you will study topics from many different fields. In my first year, I learned a lot of new material and reviewed a bunch of things I already knew. The new things I learned were both useful and intriguing. As a business major, I was able to pick out my own classes from a list of suggested criteria. Of the classes that were not relevant to my major, I picked whatever interested me the most. Through this method, I enjoyed my academics very much. It may seem boring to go over the same history lesson that you listened to last year, and it is. But class material is covered quickly, and the professor will move onto something you hadn't heard last time. UConn professors might cover something you've already learned, but they'll point out something that your high school teachers didn't. For me, even though I took several subjects I had studied in high school, I still learned a lot of new things about those subjects. Overall, I am quite satisfied with what I've learned so far. The upperclassmen at UConn say that the first two years are the easiest, that they are little in comparison to junior and senior year. For those students that are undecided, junior year is the year to pick a major. That is the time when students really start to learn about their chosen field of study. I don't know very much about upperclassmen studies, but I do know that it is much more challenging.

    UConn is great for students who want full independence. These students are headstrong with their school work, and are willing to go far out of their way to see friends from all over campus, which could be up to a half hour walk. UConn is it's own little city, perfect for students who dislike to be structured.

    UConn is a large school with many opportunities. Though you might not know what type of college experience you are looking for, giving UConn a shot is definitely a good idea. As a student planning to transfer to a smaller school, I honestly do not regretting giving UConn a chance, due to the experience I have obtained and knowledge of what I do and do not like about certain schools. You won't know until you try it!

    I am currently paying below $10k for the entire year, and definitely obtaining a worthy education. The low price tag for in state residents makes UConn one of the most attractive schools out there.

    Though UConn is providing me with a great education, I am unhappy as a student here. Many people find that it is the school for them, while I am quite the opposite. UConn is too large of a school for a small-town girl like myself. My biology lecture is as large as my entire high school. I find it difficult to obtain the community feel I crave as a college student, given the fact that my class load takes up critical time for extra curricular activities which provide others with opportunities to find a community. There is a lot to do on campus, but I find that you really have to search for what's going on. UConn could do a bit better providing more information to students. I feel somewhat isolated as a freshman in an upper classmen dorm, which also adds to my lack of contentment with the college. I'm sure others would find that this school provides maximum independence and opportunity, but I need more structure.
    Am learning a lot

    I am definitely learning more than I could have imagined. The classes are challenging yet rewarding, confirming the idea that UConn will provide me with an adequate education. As a major in physiology and neurobiology, I am thrust into the sciences and have already learned and retained much material in the three months I have been here.

    Campus Safety

    The fire department, police department, and medical department have done a good job in keeping students safe. They are always available when a student needs their aid. They are good because they handle situations with care and professionally.
    Clubs and Activities

    I was able to find and join clubs that matched my interests. The clubs have allowed me to take part in roles that make me feel needed. They make a difference in the campus. Some of the clubs try to improve some things on campus like the cost of books, for example.

    The University of Connecticut is great for the types of students that love being in giant environments. There are always people everywhere. It also very beneficial for students that want to be very involved in activities because there are so many things to do.

    The Student Union is the place to be for students. It has many things to do. For example, students can buy food, hang out in lounges, be part of a cultural center, play games, and watch television. It is always packed with people because it is the entertainment center on campus.

    The university is worth much more than it charges but because of its price it is a great university for students to attend. It is a well known university that has great deals for students attending it. It tries to give out as much financial aid as it can. This is a great reason to try to attend this university.
    What to do for fun

    There are many activities to do on the weekdays and weekends. On the weekdays you can do intramural sports, go to the gym, be part of a club/organization, and much more. On the weekends you can watch movies, attend shows, and attend different campus events.
    Food and Dining

    The food is good. There is a large variety of food to choose from at the many campus dining halls. It is very hard finding something that you do not like. There are also food delivery services on campus for some restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    The university did a great job in pairing me up with a roommate that has almost the same living style that I do. I get along fine with my roommate and the people in my dorm hall. Students make a lot of friends in the dorm halls.
    Academic Rigor

    The work is manageable as long as it is done with discipline. You get out of a class as much as you put into it. If you study hard and try hard, you will most likely get the grade that you want.
    Tips for prospective students

    Discipline is a very important thing to have while at the university. Time management is the most important thing to have. The reason for these two is because it is very easy to lose track of academic work since there are so many things to do at the university. Students must be aware if the reason why they are in college. It is to graduate, not to go out and get drunk every night.

    The University of Connecticut is a great university for students all around the world. It is very diverse and has become a second home for many students. It is great because it brings a lot of opportunities for students to make a difference in the world.

    Campus Safety

    We have our own fire station and police station on campus, and they respond to all the emergencies on campus and in the surrounding area. They are very good at their jobs and all incidents that happen (although they are very few) are taken care of appropriately.
    Greek Life

    Don't need to be a part of it to be active in the community, but it is a great thing to join if you are into that sort of stuff.
    Clubs and Activities

    Lots of clubs and activities to do, you just need to be able to organize your schedule.
    Great for these types of students

    Academics will do well here, and people who enjoy partying. If you have a car and are ok with traveling off campus, it's also a goog place.

    Rubbing Jonathon the Husky's nose outside of Gampol is good luck. Stepping on the UConn seal in the direct middle of campus dooms you to never graduate from UConn. Supposedly anyway ;)

    Great school, dorms are a little much considering the quality of most of them.
    What to do for fun

    The school organizes some trips to New York or Boston which I've heard are pretty fun. They also have shows in Jorgenson and movies running every weekend. Occasionally there are other events, it depends on the time of year. Otherwise you have to go off campus to do things, whether it be parties or traveling.
    Food and Dining

    There are lots of different choices and the food is usually pretty good. Grab and go is also a great thing to have on campus, and the Union's food is also very good.
    Dorm Life

    Depends where you are. West campus? Not so great. South Campus? Pretty amazing, but unless you are a senior or junior, it's hard to get a room there, and they cost more. It also stinks because housing went up for the 2012-2013 school year. Off campus housing is available also, but a lot of the places near campus are sometimes the party central of the weekends, so you have to be careful with that if it isn't your thing
    Academic Rigor

    It's a tough school, especially the math and science areas. However, the classes are great and while they are tough you always feel like you are learning. A lot of the time you can see connections between classes, which is a lot of fun and also cool to see.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you like partying, UConn is a great school. You get the great classes that will look great on your resume when you graduate, its a well known school and you can have fun as well. However, if you're used to going out and doing a lot of different things like you'd be able to in the city, don't come here unless you have a car so you can dive places

    Campus Safety

    I always feel pretty safe on campus. There's always a cop breathin down your neck, so I'm never too worried about anything happening to me. There have been fights and stuff, though, and people have gotten hurt. Generally you're safe so long as you don't get belligerent and start something, or else get so drunk that you aren't aware of your surroundings. But then, this is true of all colleges. My uncle bought me some mace, which gives me peace of mind when I'm walking home late at night, but luckily I've never had to use it. Just be sensible and you'll be fine.
    Greek Life

    I personally don't know too much about Greek life as I do not participate in a coed frat or sorority (except to attend their social gatherings of the dirty crowded basement variety). They do exist, though, and I know some people that love it. If you're interested, check out the rushing programs they have at the start of the semester. They are very vocal. You can't miss 'em (for better or for worse).
    Clubs and Activities

    You get out of it what you put into it. I'm on concert committee and have had a lot of fun with it, but you also have to put forth some effort.
    Great for these types of students

    People who want a quality education for a good price. Students that are self-motivated, optimistic, and open-minded. Students that don't mind being a little cold/snowed on sometimes. (Winter can be slightly soul crushing, but if you live in the northeast, you're used to it.)
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Oozeball (a.k.a., mud volleyball) each spring. It's pretty fun, I'd recommend it! Although two years ago I think a few people got carted away for hypothermia...check the weather before you sign up.

    In state tuition is really good, especially if you plan to work in Connecticut, as it has a pretty good and rising reputation locally. Not sure what out of state tuition is, but from my prospective, it's a good education, especially the Engingeering, Business and NEAG education schools, so don't let your parents talk you out of it.
    What to do for fun

    Hmm hmm, okay so this is a point of contention amongst us Uconn huskies. Some people say that there is nothing to do at Uconn, seeing as it is located in the midst of rural, cow land Connecticut. I tend to disagree, and I will tell you why: I feel as though Uconn can easily be as fun as any other school provided that you can make a fun group of friends. Which you will, if you can get out of your comfort zone just a little bit (and that means staying up at school on weekends). If you're into a party scene, you will most certainly experience that at Uconn, however, if you tend not to drink, there are other things to do as well. I am very big on the concerts, for example. We get an outdoor fall, a winter, and a spring concert which tends to be the biggest. Last year Sam Adams, Taking Back Sunday, and Wiz Khalifa headlined in each (though TBS was cancelled due to weather and general lack of interest), but artists varies from year to year. Also, the school organizes Late Night which is a themed gathering every Friday night, in which they provide activities, free stuff, food, and Karaoke (which is pretty hilarious, I highly recommend you check that out at least once. We've got some karaoke celebrities on this campus, let me tell you.) Furthermore, there are school trips, alternative breaks, and travel opportunities you can take advantage of. Sports are huge at Uconn. Tailgates are pretty popular around football season, but basketball is our main squeeze. Mainly because we are boss. I would trash talk some more but we're not exactly in the best place for that at the moment so I will refrain. Anyways, like I said, there are plenty of things to do at UConn. More importantly, though, you should find some cool, open-minded and fun peeps to hang out with. You can sit in your dorm room all day watching soaps and eating noodles from a cup and still have a grand ol time if you're surrounded by a good crowd. I would recommend being open to and experiencing all the types of fun your chosen school has to offer, regardless of where you end up going. After all, it's college, and you're only young once. #YOLO.
    Food and Dining

    Uconn has a pretty boss meal plan. I mean, you'll inevitably get sick of the food, but it's generally good and you get free swipes to any dining hall at any time of day. Points can be used to buy (yummier) food from the Student Union and Cafes around campus during late night hours. On weekends you can purchase food with points until... I think 1 a.m.? They always serve pizza, Mexican, chicken wings, salads and paninis and sandwiches. Opt for the 500 point plan, if you can afford it. It's worth it just so you can be obese and stress eat during finals without having to budget all year. the only downside is that all your friends will mooch off you for food at the end of the year once everyone else has spent all their points. But who knows, maybe you can use them as leverage to get personal favors of some sort. ANyways, if you don't want to spend money on the meal plan, your options are kind of limited, since most dorms don't have kitchens. Furthermore, if you don't have a car, it's pretty hard to get to the grocery store. I'd say the nearest one is a good 5 miles off campus. I know there's a bus that goes to a Big-Y or Walmart or something of the sorts, but you'll have to look into it, because I never opted to go that route. Aside from all that, there are a few staple take-out places (Wings Over Storrs, DP dough) that you simply MUST try if you want to be a real UConn student. Other notables include the Dairy Bar, which is an ice cream parlor voted #1 in Connecticut (probably cause it's made out of milk squeezed from our very own UConn cows) and Chuck and Augies, a wannabe upscale restaurant that will accept points from your meal plan. (Can you say cheap date?) Alrighty, I wrote too much for this section already. I really like food. Sue me.
    Dorm Life

    I've been really lucky with my housing. My rooms were all pretty spacious...spacious being a relative term. They've at least been clean. My dorms also tend to be pretty lively, so if loud music bugs you, ya might wanna opt for a quieter building in East campus or a single sex building (those tend to be lower key for some reason.) But I kinda prefer a high energy atmosphere. The one complaint that I've heard about Uconn (though it hasn't been my experience at all) is that sometimes you'll be put in a double room with more than two roommates. There's a bit of a housing shortage, so I guess they get kinda desperate sometimes. While some people have had problems with this, other's have had it to their advantage. My ex boyfriend lived in a study room with three other guys. It was HUGE, and they decked it out with like three T.V.s and two refrigerators and stuff. They could probably fit like 20 people in their room, and wound up being the social place on their floor. They had to go to the library if they wanted to get anything done or else lock their door, but still it was a fun year. Anyways, it's pretty much luck of the draw when it comes to housing. Answer your preferences survey honestly in the beginning of the year and odds are you'll find yourself in a good fit. OH also, laundry is free now, you just have to bring your own detergent and fabric soften er (if that's your thing). They probs tacked on like $700 onto your tuition for that, so make sure to abuse the privilege with all you've got...kidding (sort of.)
    Academic Rigor

    I'm an English major, and I find that my coursework is challenging, but manageable. As long as you don't completely blow off your reading and studying you'll be fine. I've heard it's different in other major programs. Especially nursing, engineering, actuarial science, and computer science, people tend to have more trouble. But then again, that could have more to do with the nature of the subject. All in all, you should have the resources to do well, since all the professors hold office hours and tutoring is provided in the library free of charge (cha-ching!)
    Tips for prospective students

    Uconn is a big school, and potentially intimidating for an incoming freshman. I would request an all freshman dorm. It will help you to make a tight-knit friend group right off the bat. If scope out your own little niche, the transition from your high school to this large university won't be so jarring.

    If you need help, ASK. If you fall behind, ASK. If you do not do good, ASK WHY. Want to figure out when the next game is, or how to get into a club you want to get into? ASK. You're new here for a reason, you're not supposed to know everything... so whenever you need to know something, ask about it. If there's one thing UCONN does well, it's the resources provided to help you ask the right questions and get a decent/ disappointing answer, but an answer nonetheless.
    Tips for prospective students

    Manage your time, your finances, and figure out what you want to do before the end of your sophomore year. Trust me, I'm not being negative, I'm just being honest. Your experience is what you make of it. Despite my academic struggles, I am having the time of my life up here and don't regret my decision in the least. Just make sure you are happy with your decision.
    Bang for the buck

    Not cheap. Unless you have a good scholarship coming into the school, prepare to pay, especially with the controversy surrounding tuition increases. I'm not too sure of other people who have made reviews on the site, but I in particular will have to pay about $32,000 when it's all said and done. Remember when I said not cheap? Well the school in itself is cheap, and not in a good way. The dining halls close at inconvenient hours (7:15) and leave you with having to pay for everything else if you have to work and miss your chance to eat. Want a drink? $1.25. How about a basketball game, those are free, right? Nope, tickets can go for as much as $35. Want to go on a trip to Boston? Be prepared to pay as well. Factor in books, and yeah, you're going to have to cough up a lot. I recommend using websites like chegg.com or textbooks.com to get used books before the semester starts, you'll save a ton of money. All in all, be a smart spender, and you'll notice that it isn't that bad at all. STAY AWAY FROM ONLINE SHOPPING.

    The friends I have made here, as well as the friendships that have developed while I have been here will last me for a lifetime. You can easily find a group of friends to hang out with and to support you along the way, but you have to be open and willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Be wary of the small cliques that will form around campus (the fraternities, sororities, etc.) and the plain unfriendly manner in which many people act towards you with - but that's just college. Make sure you can trust, and I mean absolutely trust the people you surround yourself with, especially roommates.. sooner or later you will find something missing. Lastly, make time to have fun.. realize that this is a transition and unless you are a genius, things will not be straightforward and easy. Maintain organization and be careful not to get addicted to drinking and partying, which is very easy to do here.
    Am learning a lot

    Now, I don't mean to be a downer or anything, just extremely honest. Depending on the course of study you intend to pursue, you may have less difficulty in your classes than I am. But I am an engineering major, computer science and engineering to be exact, and I can't believe the way the courses are taught here. We are expected to know most of the material as is, and are not supposed to ask questions that may hint at the answer. Every engineering TA I have had has given me the run around when I ask for help, and I have spent hours trying to compile one Java program, without being given two sentences of an answer to my questions. The exams are ridiculous, as expected... the questions are difficult to understand, and they cover a lot of material. The courses are presented as straight-forward, and helpful, when the assignments themselves are difficult to decipher. I can't believe that one time I asked for the question to be explained, and my reply was a question in itself. If you want to major in engineering, be prepared to do a lot of the teaching yourselves.

    Blue lights are all over campus as a safety precaution but never used because the campus is general quiet. I feel safe walking around, even at night, especially in a group or with another person. Only people who live within a certain building have access to that hall via card swipe.

    I guess it depends on where you live but as an out of state student, UConn is very expensive for a public school! As an instate school, I believe the costs are still a little high, but more manageable.
    What to do for fun

    Like I said, get involved! With all the organizations and clubs, you'll be so busy and have a rewarding experience. There isn't a ton to do in Storrs itself so getting involved is a must. There's also late night in the union on weekend nights which has giveaways and events, a movie theater located off campus and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts where both smaller and larger artists come to perform.
    Food and Dining

    The dining halls are pretty good. You can swipe in as many times as you want per day and eat as much as you want each visit. Quality could be better, but hey, it's dining hall food. Other options include the student union which offers better food but you must use points which you can buy with your meal plan, or other form of payment (cash, debit, credit). There are many restaurants just off campus too which deliver and that's very convenient and many are delicious!
    Dorm Life

    I'm currently an RA and as an RA, I know that Residential Life and myself try our hardest to make your dorm experience as enjoyable as possible! We try to promote friendship and community within the dorm and give you many opportunities to meet other people through programs and events. Again, get involved! You won't regret it.

    Being a larger school, class sizes are large! It is sometimes daunting to even meet with your professor or TA. That being said, you need to be determined to learn a lot of material yourself. UConn is very detail-oriented when it comes to a lot of the material presented so keeping up with your classes is a must!

    Get involved! That would be my number one tip. College is about the experience and with all the clubs, organizations and sports UConn has to offer, you should take advantage of the opportunities the school has to offer.

    Safety is a must. There is the police which is willing and ready at any time (be at the place for 60-90 seconds) and there are also HUSKY-Watch and GUARD-Dogs which help you when you have been out and need a ride back.

You can watch the Division I teams play (especially basketball), you can go out with your friends in the cafes and restaurants nearby, not to mention the college parties. Since UConn is not located in an urban area and you like to leave the campus, you can take the bus (using UConn's student discount) and go to NYC, Providence, or somewhere really close like Hartford. If you are more the type of person who does not like big crowds, games, parties, then you can hang out in your dorm or the game room in your building.

    If you love food then you came to the right place. UConn just built a new dining hall- besides its other eight dining halls- which will serve international food. The conditions are great and dining halls are open until late.

    Needless to say UConn is the school that you cannot get bored off. The campus is ginormous and there is always something fun to do. In Student Activities every Friday there is Karaoke night, not to mention UConn's famous varsity basketball teams where every student shows their school spirit. There are also Learning Communities which help you get involved in activities that you have interest in. I do not want to spoil everything because the fun part is, you as a student exploring what's best for you.

    UCONN is a great school which has prospered into a demanding, challenging university. There is NEAG (school of education) which is really demanding and highly rigorous along with UConn's combined medical/dental school which is a great opportunity. There is also School of Business which is known for its achievements.

    Do not stress yourself over not being able to find yourself because UConn has a place for everyone to feel at home. Try not to over-pack because freshman dorms are really small and you will not have enough space.     This is one of the most important if not the most important factor for anyone living on such a large campus. UConn is really great at making their students feel safe and never alone. Personal walking escorts, driving escorts and even our own university police all make it a safe habitat.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is relevant on the campus and shows plenty of brother-hood and sister-hood as well as reaching out to different communities through community service projects held throughout the year.

    The University prides itself on academics! Thus, it is very challenging. With a 92% freshman retention rate I believe UConn is difficult but most can do it with the help of the outstanding faculty and staff.

    Great! There are two escort services on campus, judemental and non- judgemental. If a student works late and has to walk across campus, that student can call the judgemental escorts, Husky Watch. If a student gets wasted they call the non-judgemental escorts, GUARD Dogs, to drive them home. This isn't intended to encourage drinking, but to provide a safe alternative to drunk driving.

    With those blue post almost 50 feet from each other this campus is very safe. And you can also see cops patrolling and keeping an eye on everything making it a safe environment.
    What to do for fun

    Their are many things to do for fun like club sports, intamurals, clubs, and late night. If your not into the party life they have movie nights for very cheap, Their is also basketball courts or volleyball courts to play on, and the gym.
    Food and Dining

    The dinning halls have their days, it just all depends on the day you go. Some days are better than others and most of them close around 7:15pm so that is the only downside if you are a late night eater. They still have grab and goes but they don't replace a meal just a late snack.
    Dorm Life

    The buildings are great but it depends on your location of where you live and where your classes are. If you get lucky people can live 5 minutes away from class or it can be 15. The rooms are enough space depending on how you arrange them, and you can always adjust the bed height to your liking.

    The classes are great with many TA's assisting the professor so you can always ask for help.Some are big lectures so you will have to go out your way to get to know your professor but they will be willing to help. It is a research school though so the professors are busy with their own research as well.

    If you are willing to walk then enjoy because it is a large campus. If you are not a fan bring a bike, skateboard, or roller blades. You can also learn the bus route and use the busses to your advantage.

    I live in a very urban city and making the transition to rural Storrs was a struggle. The people in my dorm can be rude and obnoxious at times (especially when they're drunk!) but hey! that's college. Having met new friends and already knowing other students has made it easier to adjust.

    The class sizes vary which is one thing that I love about it. Pretty much all the science and math courses are lecture-style (200+ students) but the liberal arts courses have a more intimate setting (max of 30 students). The profs do try to offer assistance in and out of class, whether it's personally or through their TAs. Most profs use HuskyCT which makes it super easy to access course materials and view grades.

    I've made friends from all over the place, from all parts of CT to even China. Again, if you want to have the best college experience, you need to go out and get it.

    No matter what classes it is, easy or hard, I am constantly learning, but of course you need to put in the effort if you want to get something back. Classes go in depth and most of my professors are passionate about what they teach. However, I do have some friends that complain that some of their professors (mostly in the sciences) do not teach very well and are more fit to be researchers (UConn is a research university). I've had a variety of TAs, bad ones and good ones. It's beneficial to have a good TA because they really help you on a one-on-one setting.

    UConn is great for students who know how they learn best because it offers so many services. If you know you're going to need extra help, the University has a tutoring service where more experienced/qualified students can help you. If you have a learning disability, UConn is more than happy to help you any way they can. I feel that to be at this University, you really have to be a dedicated student. The classes are challenging and require that you have the drive to do well. Students with drive and motivation will thrive here.
    Tips for prospective students

    I strongly suggest that everyone get involved in SOMETHING. Whether it be music or sports or the dance team, getting involved is the best thing I ever did, and it will be the best thing you ever do as well. Being involved in clubs and organizations is where you're really going to meet people who have the same interests and personalities as you. I met my two best friends through a cappella, and I feel that I never would have met them otherwise. There are so many people that attend this University that, unless you get involved, it's hard to meet people and stay in touch with them. I also suggest that you KEEP YOUR DOOR OPEN for at least the first week at school. This way you'll get to meet the people on your floor easier and hopefully make some friends that way!

    UConn's tuition may seem a little high, but I promise you, it's worth it. The professors are great and well-educated, the facilities are kept pretty up-to-date, and the campus is very nice. With tuition, you not only get to take classes, but you gain access to the gym, which has a great variety of equipment for anyone to use! I feel that UConn is %100 worth the money, and you definitely get the most bang for your buck here.

    I absolutely love it at UConn! It really is home to me and I would honestly rather never leave to come to my real home. The people are great people and generally kind. There is so much to do here, like go to a movie (for only $2 by the way!), go bowling, see a play, and much more. I personally am a member, and president, of UConn's newest a cappella group, Notes Over Storrs! I can promise you that whatever it is you love to do, you will find it at UConn. No one here will ever feel left out.

    Join clubs! My closest friends at UCONN are the ones that I met in a club. Having something in common is a great way to connect with people. Also, before applying to the school, make sure you visit UCONN. It is a very rural area surrounded by cows. This environment is not right for everyone.

    I have gotten great financial aid from the University of Connecticut because I am an instate student. Also, the meal plan offers access to all the dining halls and based on what plan you have, you get points and/or flex passes to be used at the Student Union and the GrabnGos.

    The University of Connecticut has a club or community for everyone to belong to! The clubs offered are based on community service, ethnicity, passion for a certain subject, etc. There are also great events every weekend to entertain students.

    There are a huge variety of courses offered to students at the University of Connecticut. In the past two years, I have taken classes varying from Introduction to Anthropology to Physiology and Anatomy, etc. The classes at UCONN are very large, ranging sometimes from 200-300 people. There is very little interaction with professors so one should definitely go to office hours.

    Be an avid note taker and make sure to study about a week or so before you have a test or quiz. Studying early helps you be prepared when the actual test comes along. Listening to what the teacher says and taking notes of what he says helps test taking because most tests are derived from lectures.

    I just received my Financial Aid and am thankful that my fee bill is under 2000 per term(Commuting to West Hartford branch)! I am excited to go to UConn with a little bit of cash left in my pocket!

    I enjoy the UConn campus and the people who are here. All staff is friendly and willing to help, especially to new freshmen who don't know their way around or what to do in general. Having a friendly places to be makes it easier to want to study and do well in school.

    Classes here are not terribly difficult or demanding during so far during my freshmen year of classes. I am able to keep up with school work and not be bombarded with an overloaded schedule. Classes are very informative and teachers make it as easy as possible to pass even the most difficult of classes. Teachers make the classes interesting and interactive which makes me learn more than I did in high school. Their encouragement of taking good notes and studying them helps when it comes time for tests or quiz's. Learning a TON!

    As a student fresh out of high-school it can be exciting and frightening all at the same time when going off to college especially if you are living away from home. I would say to be open to other people that you will meet and to try to understand your roommate, the more you get along the easier it will be, my roommate is one of my best friends and I feel like we can tell each other anything. Grades are important and it will make your life easier if you complete assignments early, if you are getting stressed out take an hour to relax and make sure to eat and get some sleep. If you're too tired and stressed when doing an assignment its most likely going to turn out to be a crappy piece of work (its happened to me a few times last year) and its disappointing to get a bad grade handed back to you after all the time you spent working on it. And don't forget to get involved in sports or clubs, you will have an easier time finding and making friends.

    I would say that at Avery Point I'm getting my moneys worth, I cant vouch for the main campus, but if its anything like Avery Point (but on a much larger scale) then anyone should be proud to attend Uconn. You will get a great education at Uconn at what is hopefully in your price range, if the main campus is too expensive one of the regional campuses should fit your budget. And no matter which campus you choose you are in for a great experience and lots of knowledge.

    As I said before the staff is great, they make you feel welcome the first day on campus. The campus itself, though lacking dorms, is gorgeous. Avery Point is right on the water, any closer and you would be having classes under water. Instead of living in a cramped dorm all the students live in apartments just about three miles away, depending on which complex the choose to live in. If you don't have a car then there is public transport to get to and from campus, though its a bit of a hassle to take the public bus, I am able to get to classes when I need to. All in all, Avery Point is a great branch of the University of Connecticut and I am proud to be a student there.
    Am learning a lot

    I'm attending at one of Uconn's many regional campuses, Avery Point, and the staff if great. The classes are small, so there is a chance for one on one time if you need help. I've learned so much in just the one short year, on my first day one of my professors took out on a schooner (ship) and we had a hands on lesson on how to raise sails and how to run the ship. There is always something new to learn and the professors at Avery Point are always happy to share their knowledge with their students.

    Fine Arts Majors -- there's a puppetry major! Engineers -- the department is really supportive and has tons of resources to help you graduate! Business -- difficult to get into, but once you're in, you'll be all set for the rest of your undergraduate years! Foreign Languages -- great study abroad programs in different parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia for the same amount or less of your tuition costs!

    Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to strangers; it's the best way to make new friends. There's also nothing wrong with asking for help from friends or professors; if you don't, you're either really smart, or you will definitely fail your courses. You are not in college and do not graduate on your own, so collaborate when working in college!

    If you are an in-state student, this university is definitely worth the money. Not only is it renown for its sports, but its colleges are wonderful as well. Even out-of-state students can find lots of opportunities here; the school offers all types of services in its Career Services and Study Abroad offices and have plenty of scholarships you can apply for.

    Great people, friendly and helpful professors, lots of on-campus events to enjoy! You will never be bored with the amount of things to do, especially the student films playing at the Student Union each weekend!

    If you're full of pride, then UCONN is the place to be. There is always a game you can catch to show off your Husky pride, there are a million and one clubs that you can choose from. This is my first year at UCONN and everyone has made me feel at home. Living off campus is not a problem because there is a bus that can pick you up depending where you live and UCONN students ride for FREE. The classes are big but the teachers will literally help you step by step if you need it. And the campus is enormous, I still get lost sometims but there are so many clubs that you won't be able to find one that suits you, but if you can't just start your own club.

    UConn is great for students who are individualistic, who are ready and willing to take on the full responsibility of their education and find out things for themselves. At such a large school, you are expected to research and find out what you need to know on your own.     Get involved! You've probably heard it countless times, but it couldn't be more true. UConn is a big place, so it's important for you to take steps as an individual to seek out people with similar interests, whether that be in music, athletics, or art, or something else altogether - UConn is brimming with opportunities - you just have to go out and join.

    As an in-state student, I pay a lesser amount than I would at a private college or out-of-state university, however, tuition still doesn't come cheap here. Consider the fact that just recently UConn released their plan to increase tuition by around 6%, and the financial burden is heightened. However, UConn has earned its reputation as a premiere university for a reason; the education you receive can be well worth the cost.

    There is plenty to keep the students busy here at UConn - the campus supports a wide variety of interests from athletics to theatre to music. The social scene on weekends consists primarily of house parties or night out at the local bars, but the university provides alternative entertainment for students who would prefer a different atmosphere.

    Coming into such a large university as an undecided student, I was unsure of the quality of education in general studies I would find where specialization is key in success and differentiation. However, once classes started I saw how interested and involved the teachers were in even their introductory classes, and by the end of my first semester found a content area I wanted to pursue.

So definitely try your best to use up all the opportunities available.

    UConn has it's own police and fire department and they seem to be everywhere. Which is a good thing in many cases. The campus takes safety into pretty much everything it does.

    I'm not involved in Greek life but my roommate is and he seems to like it a lot. It is an easy way to make many friends and get some new connections.

    This is the best part of UConn. There are over 150 clubs and activities to choose from and there is guaranteed to be a club that interests you. And if there isn't, then you can try something new and I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

    Since I'm from Connecticut I know that the in-state tuition is very good for such a prestigious state school. I was planning on going to Northeastern but then I figured out I could get the same education for 20,000 dollars less.

    UConn offers so many different activities and clubs that are easy to join and get involved in. Intramural sports are very fun and the different clubs can get you going intellectually. Also the sports program at UConn offers many opportunities to go watch some division 1 athletics.

    There are various dining halls all over campus that offer different types of foods that can quench anyone's appetite. Along with the dining halls there is the student union which has other food choices that are very popular.

    There are many different options for living on campus. The dorms are very nice and then you can also choose from many different types of suites. Also off-campus housing is very popular since it is affordable and enticing.

    Since I'm in the engineering school, my classes will always be very hard. And from what I've heard from my other friends on campus all their classes are pretty difficult as well. You definitely have to work very hard to come out with a good GPA.

    Make sure you understand that this is a huge school with a lot of students attending it. If you are looking for a tight knit community, than UConn isn't for you. That doesn't mean that it's hard to find friends or get involved because the university does a great job at providing students with many opportunities to find out what interests you.

    UConn has over 300 clubs and societies on and off campus. UConn often hosts concerts, comedy shows, and other extraordinary performances at Jorgensen center for the performing arts, which are always enjoyable. On top of that, UConn has a world renown sporting program, which includes the 2011 NCAA National Champion Basketball team. Attending games are a campus favorite, and always offer a great time.

    The food at the dining halls have been great. They accustom to everyones taste, including vegetarian, gluten free eaters, and those with food allergies, to name a few.     UConn has been brilliant so far, and I've enjoyed it all. It's challenging, yet welcoming atmosphere should be something every college freshman should look for in a school. The campus is gorgeous, the people are friendly, the dorms are fantastic, and the course load is challenging, but not overbearing.

    I have never once felt unsafe. There are so many blue lights in case of emergencies, but really, I feel fine walking back from a late classes by myself.

    Greek Life is and isn't huge. If you are into partying, then it is, since they host most parties. If you aren't, then you may just notice them around. Either way, Greek Life is helpful, philanthropic, and they are not allowed to haze.
    Clubs and Activities

    If you want a club, they've got it. If they don't, you can make it, and it's not that hard to start one. There are so many clubs, intramural sports teams, and more to do to get involved on campus.

    Storrs isn't a hopping town yet, but a new strip mall is being built down the street. On top of that, UConn hosts a lot of events, many free, and brings concert to the school. This spring, we had Wiz Khalifa and Bo Burnham!
    Food and Dining

    With seven dining halls, as well as multiple other places to eat, the food here is amazing. If you don't like what one dining hall is serving, just go to another!
    Dorm Life

    With so many options, each dorm offers a slightly different experience. However, the RAs are nice, and the people are generally friendly.
    Academic Rigor

    Some classes are a breeze, especially the general education classes. Others require more work. There's plenty of teachers and TAs and people available to help, and someone is always accessible for help.

    Be sure to visit UConn before you come! The campus can be overwhelming at first, but walking around and you'll get to know your way before the first week of school is over.

    There are fairs that happen throughout the year, but those aren't very often. There is also a dairy bar on campus that makes its own ice cream, and I hear that people often hang out there.

    Definitely look up the professors when you register, otherwise you might end up with a professor that doesn't suit your academic needs. I do extensive research before I register for classes and it often ensures that I'll have a great semester. Otherwise, all the classes are interesting and you can't really go wrong. The campus is big, so it does take some getting used to, but that didn't take me very long.

    Some aspects of campus safety are really good. They have blue lights all over campus and UConn actually has its own police station so when you call for help they are right on campus. However, on the weekends many students walk through woods intoxicated and it is very dangerous.

    Greek Life is really big at UConn and all those I met who were apart of it really seemed to enjoy it.

    UConn has tons of clubs and activities on campus that can appeal to many different students. Some of the clubs are not ran as well as others but for the most part the clubs are very active around campus and do a lot for the community.

    This school is great for students who LOVE big sports, who are okay with doing a lot on their own, can keep a high GPA, and are okay with not having a lot to do off campus.

    Carriage is probably the most unusual tradition/location at UConn. Although it is not specifically on campus, it is where many people go on the weekends and it is crowded and not fun at all. There is just so little to do on campus that students will do anything just to have a good time.

    For those who live out-of-state students UConn is an expensive school and I personally do not think I got my money's worth when I went there. When you are paying a lot of money to go to a school you want to feel like a valued member of that institution and due to the size of UConn it is difficult to make students feel that way.
    What to do for fun

    The sporting events at UConn are always a blast and I always had a good time going to those. However, there is not much to do around the campus at all and even if there is unless you have a car you are unlikely to be able to go anywhere. There are a lot of off campus house parties but those are usually very crowded and require a lot of walking through the woods.

    Some of the dining halls have good options once in awhile, but for the most part there are not many healthy choices or fresh fruit.
    Dorm Life

    There are some quality dorms but they are usually hard to get into unless you are a lucky freshman or going to be a junior.

    Some of the schools within UConn are more difficult than others, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is not difficult for the most part. Whereas the Engineering and Business Schools are very difficult.

    You can feel completely and totally safe at UConn. Not only does UConn have emergency lights every about 200 yards (that can be hit and within 4 minutes have the police arrive) but we also have a program called Husky Escorts which is available until 2 am so that no one has to walk alone in the dark.

    Greek Life is huge at UConn. They have plenty of organizations that you may like. Greeks are very active on campus and have events often.
    Clubs and Activities

    Apart for our 500+ clubs, community outreach, club sports, UConn also has cultural centers in our Student Union - International Center, Asian American Cultural Center, Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center, Rainbow Center and the Women's Center. You can feel at home in any of these centers, hang out, and do work.
    Bang for the buck

    UConn is totally worth it. Compared to other universities, UConn is about half the price. Not only that but UConn has a very prestigious reputation. UConn provides tutors for their Quantitative classes, which seem to be a bit difficult and also provides voluntary students at the Writing Center, who help come up with ideas for, edit, evaluate, or re-write papers for different classes.
    What to do for fun

    UConn has 500+ clubs that you can get involved in. Plus, if you don't like any of those you can start your own club. We also have a Community Outreach Program with even more options for volunteering; Club sports and so on.
    Food and Dining

    Same as dorms, some dining halls are better than others. All serve different food so keep that in mind. UConn has an app that tells you what each dining hall serves, check it out!

    Dorms are not terrible. Of course, some dorms are better than others. As you get older and gain more credits your options get broader.

    The University of Connecticut is one of the top 20 public schools in the nation. With that said, it is not an easy school; do not go into the school year thinking that it will be a breeze because you will be in for a rude awakening.

    Campus Safety is really important to know about. Uconn has a really big campus but students can call husky watch or husky service, if they have to walk back from the library late at night and don't want to go alone, Husky Watch picks students up even on the weekends until 3 in the morning, they even go off campus just so that students don't drink and drive and they are very reliable.
    Greek Life

    I am not part of Greek Life, but I have a lot of friends who are, and they love it. It is a great way to network, meet friends coming in as a freshman and each sorority or fraternity has a different philanthropy and they help different causes and raise money which is fun.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are clubs and Activities for every type of student and every type of major. The more activities and clubs a student becomes apart of the better their college experience will be. Every year Fall and Spring semester there is a Club fair, all the clubs come out and have their own stands and students can go around and see what they like, and if they are interested they sign up. Usually Clubs have weekly meetings or monthly meetings and they set up different types of activities all around campus.
    What to do for fun

    There are so many thing to do for fun, there are always some sort of activity going on around campus. You can join an intramural sport, or join a club sport for fun. If you like to dance there is BAILE, which is part of the Puerto Rican Latin American Culture center, and it is a great way to meet people and learn to dance latin music like bachata, salsa, merengue. If your into school spirit you can join the fan club, and you get to go to football games and go all out in Uconn colors, some people paint their faces, transportation is provided and students stay out the entire day at the Hartford stadium.
    Food and Dining

    South Dining hall is said to be the best dining hall, but after eating at the same dinning hall daily it can get very tiring. Every dinning hall has different foods, South is typically homy foods, like mash potatoes and gravy and meat, but it can vary. I would recommend getting points for the Union Market, because you can make your own salad or make your own tacos and they recently just added a Dunkin Donuts which is perfect when you want to grab a coffee before class.

    Dorm life is incredible, there are activities set up monthly so everyone in the same dorm building can get to know each other. I would definitely recommend living in a dorm it can completely change your college experience.

    The classes can be challenging, especially with the class size. If students get to know their professors during office hours, they will see that the professors are willing to help as long as students as for it.

    UConn is in the middle of nowhere, there really is no danger. As in any situation, travel safely and don't act stupid and you will never have a problem. There are also campus police EVERYWHERE.

    Not that large of a part of the population percentage wise, however it feels more prevalent. Greek life has its merits, and many people enjoy it immensely. I will say this however, its not for everyone.

    I am in Alpha Phi Omega, a National Community Service Fraternity, and joining was the best decision of my life. My best friends are among my fraternity brothers, and being a part of this fraternity has opened doors I never thought possible.

    There is really something for everyone. UConn hosts people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and dispositions. Whatever you like, you'll find it somewhere at UConn!

    Horsebarn Hill - SO PRETTY, especially during sunrise or sunset. I like to go running around there or just go sit and enjoy the weather while eating some Dairy Bar ice cream (a MUST). There are also some cool hiking trails in the area.

    Sometimes its frustrating how difficult it is to get into classes, considering a pay $20,000 a year to go to UConn. Otherwise, I have had no problems with my education.

    Like I said - GET INVOLVED! Join a club, or a frat, a group, whatever it may be, get involved. Fraternities and sororities often open doors for fun activities to do, and you can plan adventures with your friends. There are always parties for the wild type, and there are also usually fun activities hosted by the university as well. Go to late night and get free stuff!

    The dining halls are pretty good. My personal favorite is North! The best part is the unlimited swipes, you can eat as many times a day as you'd like!

    Dorm rooms suck, but thats going to be the case no matter where you go. Take advantage of your RA and your neighbors, nothing like bonding over microwave popcorn and a bad movie! Also take advantage of the dining hall, you're going to miss it when you live off campus.

    UConn is HARD. There are all sorts of levels of classes, especially for the sciences, and some major are harder than others. Don't let the fact that its a state school fool you, you will have to work here.

    Get involved! Join a club or start one if you don't find anything you like. Introduce yourself to anyone and everyone. Seeing familiar faces around campus makes it seem much more manageable. Ask for help when you need it, and stay on top of your studies and duties. Most of all, HAVE FUN! Good grades are important, but a well rounded person knows when to let loose!

    Get involved and go to events! There are dozens of sport games, speakers, parties, and programs to look into in addition to clubs and groups. Not to mention every friday night is Late Night at the student union.

    UConn has above average dining, but nothing beats a home cooked meal. The food is good, but you will get sick of it after a while.

    I unfortunately lived in North Campus, which was not great fit for me because of my commitment to my school work. North is very loud and chaotic, and I found that the academic atmosphere became more and more prevalent the further south one travelled on campus.

    Academic rigor certainly varies between majors, courses, and professors, but I found my work load at UConn to be entirely manageable. I am an English and Philosophy double major and I was definitely able to balance my 4-6 classes in addition to social events and activities.

    Definitely look into learning communities and getting involved around campus. There are hundreds of groups, clubs, and teams available to students, so finding the perfect niche is remarkably easy.

    Depends on your hobbies. If your interested in sports, UCONN is D1 and always a pleasure to watch. If you like to play sports, you can either try out for the school teams or the intermural and club sports. UCONN has over 300 clubs so there is bound to be something that interests you. A lot of events on campus to attend as well as the usual hanging with friends, parties etc.

    The food isn't the best. Nothing like a home cooked meal, but there were plenty of moments that the food was really good.

    Depending on where you live on campus, the dorms are bigger or smaller. That's true for any school. Alot of opportunities to meet people and from my experience very trustworthy people.

    The course load is intense, doable if you put the time in. Very intense for science, math and business students.

    Definitely take a tour of the school before you go! Make sure you look for things your interested in and don't just go because your friends are. Try to get involved in the many clubs and activities they have. Looks great on resumes and great way to make friends and do things you enjoy. Don't knock anything until you try it. School is not just for parties. Get the education you paid for, It's definitely worth it!

    I have never felt unsafe on campus. Even if you take night classes, there will always be someone else walking around campus too. There are also the blue lights near the buildings that you can press if you do feel unsafe but I haven't found a need to use them yet.

    There are a lot of things to do for fun, the Student Union has an event called Late Night almost every weekend in which you can participate in game shows and get free stuff. There are also a lot of clubs with events and the sports and Greek life there are also big there.

    Food and dining is alright, but not spectacular. One important aspect of the dining here is that for holidays and every once in a while there will be random themed dinners, like a Simpson dinner, or a Valentine's day dinner. It is a good idea to change up the menu once in a while especially since most campus foods have mostly the same thing often.

    Dorm life has been good for me. I am in a learning community and I think it helped me meet a lot of good friends because it is so close knit. You also see a lot of your fellow learning community people in a lot of your classes, especially freshmen year.

    The professors and TAs are very careful with your grades and they take time to speak with you if you set up an appointment. This is a good school so there shouldn't be any slacking off or you will fall behind.

    Although it's a big school, you can feel as if you're an individual and not a number. After you get used to it, it isn't all that big. I came from a high school with a graduating class of 70 and at first I was overwhelmed by the size, but in time you get used to it; I love it here.

    Students who are outgoing and love to meet people will love Uconn. Also, people who don't like to deal with drama and gossip will probably like Uconn as well, because there's so many people, it's impossible to know and gossip about everyone.
    Bang for the buck

    Pretty good!! With the rising cost of colleges, Uconn isn't too pricey in comparison, however because it's a division 1 school, MOST scholarships go to athletes, leaving few for students. Unless you had a nearly perfect high school GPA there isn't much opportunity for merit scholarship. Also, this school doesn't give the best Financial Aid, but maybe that's because the cost of attendance is so low compared to other schools.
    What to do for fun

    There is such a long list of things to do for fun!! Go to the dairy bar, go for a walk, go to a party! Greek like at Uconn is amazing and there are lots of fraternities and sororities to join to make life long friends and go out with. There's also lots of comedians and concerts throughout the year! In addition there are tons of clubs and groups to join. Uconn also offers late night, which is a Friday night program that offers free crafts to make and take, free fun things for your dorm and room at home, as well as free music and food!

    The food at Uconn is good, at least on par with most other universities. Uconn has such a big variety of dining halls and lots of options, as there are 8 different places where one can swipe their dining card unlimited times. Also,there are many cafes and places to get food that accept points, which are parts of the meal plan!

    Dorms are small, but they're no smaller than other colleges. There are also LCs, otherwise known as Learning Communities, where people of similiar iterests or academic major can work, learn, study, and party all together. In addition, living in a dorm is so much fun and it's great to be with friends all the time!
    Academic Rigor

    University of Connecticut is quite the academic challenge and superior to many other schools. From our extensive research opportunities, to independent studies, to individualized majors, our academics are our number one priority and people can get involved in their academics in a variety of different ways. With such large classes study groups are important, not only can you exchange notes, but it's a fun way to make new friends who you share classes and interests with. However, failing to study can be fatal to one's GPA and classes require extensive effort.

    Give a big school a chance, I thought I was going to be overwhelmed, but it turns out I like the diversity of a big school, and the fact that because the school is so big there's always different things to do. Also, don't let high school grades stop you, college is a good time to buckle down and focus!

    Having gone through the Citizen Police Academy on campus, I can say that the police are some of the most friendly people except when you're on the wrong side of the law. They really do their best to ensure the safety of every student and have a great sense of humor.

    The Husky Chant can be appreciated in any environment from sports games to just walking down the street and no one ever gets tired of it. The basement of the library is a great place to study that is not as popular as the upper levels and the bathrooms in Wilbur Cross are amazing.

    The bookstore is probably the worst bang for your buck but the tuition is the best. I feel that the worth of my education could be around Ivy League prices but the fact that I don't pay that makes me and my family happy.

    I love Late Night because I'm not a party girl. I can walk through the union, meet up with friends, and get a ton of free stuff. I am safe and sober and love every minute of it.

    If you have a kitchen, use it as much as you can. If you have a meal plan, use it as much as you can. Either way make sure to eat healthy and exercise to ensure the most amount of energy and avoid the freshman 15.

    Dorm life is great, especially if you get along with your roommate. The freedom and gained responsibility makes you more of an adult but you can still decorate everything in zebra print if you want. Make sure you follow the rules and get to know all the people on your floor!

    Parties, parties, parties, bars, parties, bars, eat, parties, bars, and food. Cow tipping is generally frowned upon, so just have some Dairy Bar ice cream instead (way worth it). UConn Late Night is a sober activity that's pretty nice too, you can get some awesome free stuff there. Other than that, make friends and the rest will take care of itself.

    I don't love the food at UConn, it's got a ton of sodium, and isn't the tastiest. You do get used to it though, and the Union has WAY better options. Also, there are quite a few little food shops around campus so no worries.
    Dorm Life

    Some dorms are not that nice to look at, or cram into, so that is a downside. However, the sense of community that a lot of dorms have, is awesome. UConn really provides the quintessential college experience. Laundry rooms are always packed, but it's free so that's nice; and study lounges can go either direction: really good or really noisy.
    Academic Rigor

    It's not an easy school. The School of Engineering is very supportive, but it's also got a rigorous academic schedule and standing. One would do well to put in extra effort in these classes if they're looking to stand out in the future.

    Bring a lot of warm clothing, find a trustworthy friend to go out with on weekends, and try to get involved as much as possible.

    Anything!! If you like it, UConn has it. Although you will have to take a bus to go shopping. And if you are going to be a Husky, you have to show your Husky pride at the games. Of course we have amazing basketball games, but we also love to cheer on all of our other teams as well!     Every one of my friends who attends another university is jealous of the meal plans at UConn. Unlimited dining access, quick sandwich places, the cafes, and the delicious food at the Union make it so you can always find something to eat at UConn. South and Northwest dining halls are known for their varied options and their delicious food, while Whitney Hall offers a great salad bar along with vegetarian and vegan food.

    There are many options for dorms on campus, although the housing pick process is one of the most stressful things at UConn. The best dorms are taken by upperclassmen before underclassmen are able to pick housing. That being said, the dorms are a great place to live because everyone is around the same age, and there are dorms reserved for freshmen so the transition from high school to college is even easier. The dorms are the best place to make friends.

    I know that, as a biology major, I have to stay on top of my classes by reading and studying and meeting with my professors. Though the classes have been challenging at times, especially those that are required for B.S. students, I have really enjoyed the classes I have taken here. The general education requirements have a wide variety of options, and if a class is too difficult or not challenging enough, there is an add/drop period at the beginning of every semester. I have really enjoyed some of my gen ed classes, like anthropology and philosophy.

    College is very different from high school, especially in such a large university, because you have to take control of your future.     There is also something to do for fun at Uconn. With so many clubs and activities going on, there is something to do at all times. The school offers activities every weekend so there are many chances of receiving free goodies or just hanging out with friends. Sports events are very fun.     Everywhere you walk on campus, there are blue light safety posts set up. It's rumored not all of the posts actually work, but the point is no one on campus has actually had to find out. Safety is 99.9% not an issue.
    Greek Life

    The Panhellenic Council lets students sign up for rushing before you even get on campus. If Greek life is your thing, you definitely get an opportunity to be involved in it. However, if you'd rather not be a part of it, you won't feel left out. It's a win-win situation.

    Check online, where there is literally a list of everything you've ever wanted to join, and more. Also, check out the Activity Fair at the beginning of each semester, to get a feel for what you want to do.

    Most students are in-state, taking advantage of the lowered tuition rates. Even if you pay full tuition, you're getting your money's worth.

    If drinking and dancing are your thing, UConn does have the occasional house party. But trust me, those get old fast. My advice is to join one of the hundred-or-so clubs offered, or look into the Greek life. Plus there are different levels of sports, volunteering opportunities, study abroad programs, etc. etc. etc.

    If you are an All-American diner, these dining halls are your dream come true. There is an endless supply of pizza, burgers, and fries. However if you prefer to eat on the healthier or more diverse side, don't get your hopes up. Kosher food is available at Towers, and vegetarian options are available at East, that's about it.

    The dorms are predictably cramped and, well, not all that great. There are exceptions to this, but odds are you won't have the seniority to live in those exceptions. Bring cleaning supplies and double-sided tape, and plan to pack lighter.

    Every school has its easy classes. But most of the professors at UConn are top-notch and really DO want their students to do well. Definitely keep up with assignments and reading, or you'll regret it come exam time.

    1. DO come to UConn with a plan to be involved. It's easy to get lost in the crowd, unless you're willing to stand out. 2. READ YOUR SYLLABUS. Also, while you're at it, do those assignments and stop skipping classes. Sometimes you really have to ignore temptation. 3. Don't stress about which dining hall you're at or where you live on campus. The food is identical no matter where you go and, except for South and the apartments, none of the dorms are particularly appealing. 4. DO go to the gym and Putnam. When else in your life will you get free Zumba classes? And 5. Appreciate walking in the spring and fall. Come wintertime, you'll have memorized the bus schedule like the rest of us.

    There are always police officers around to ensure the campuses safety, especially on the weekends. The campus has the blue light system, which are stationed emergency call buttons all over campus. There is also GuardDogs. If you feel unsafe, or need a sober ride, a male and a female student will both come pick you up and drive you safely home for free.

    Very large Greek life, but it doesn't overtake the school. There are very many people who do not take part in Greek life and still have a great time.

    This has improved over the last few years. School buses talk to warn pedestrians that they are approaching. The police are good about catching thieves and stopping drunk drivers. Don't get nervous if you have a little contraband because marijuana is decriminalized in the great state of Connecticut, however, do not partake on the school grounds, you will get caught. There are services that escort you home from anywhere on-campus and that will drive you home if you are off-campus.
    Greek Life

    Its there. I think most parties are thrown by a Greek house.

    Too many clubs to list but I definitely appreciate the large amount of intramural and sports clubs. There is a club for everything from LGBT to Break Dancing. We represent at UConn!

    Academically focused and goal oriented student, party animals, athletes. If you like big open campuses and going to a school where you will constantly see and meet new people, this is a good school for you. People are friendly here.

    The woods have trails that lead to interesting things. The best tradition was Spring Weekend. It's a big block party at Carriage on Thursday, one in Celeron on Friday and another in X-lot on Saturday. This is usually done on the last weekend before the last week of class. It has been suspended by the administration but it will resurface this 2012-13 year. Learn the UConn chants at football and basketball games. Attend Late-Night at least once. Go to Horsebarn Hill to hang out and watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
    Bang for the buck

    In-state tuition is still relatively cheap. Out-of state gets to be on par with most private institutions. It's a good school. But there is great need for improvement. Such as, more dorms need to be built, a new gym needs to be built and more parking spaces are needed. The town in going through a renovation so it will be under construction for the next few years. I predict UConn will be a very good school once all of that is done. It is just during this transition period that we see the ugly side of the University.
    What to do for fun

    That depends. It's traditionally a party school. Most partying has been quelled because of the deaths of a student because a lot of non-students like to use our facilities as well. Spring Weekend has been suspended but this year the senior class will resurrect it. There are a lot of clubs, sports and other school sanctioned activities as well. Going to the gym is a great place to meet people and get in shape. Hanging out with your friends is the most fun, the whole school is wide open for almost any activity.
    Food and Dining

    South Dining Hall is the best. Towers is really good and has Kosher and Halal. The North and Northwest Dining Halls are good and have a good stir fry bar. East is not bad and Putnam is mediocre. McMahon is good from 7:30PM to 10PM. I like to research the menu so I know where to eat. On days when there is Pasta Bar or Stir Fry Bar, get there early because the lines will be huge this year!
    Dorm Life

    Most dorms are fun. Some of the Hiltop dorms are party dorms because the athletes live there and it is upon a hill so you can see everything around you. McMahon is nice because you have a dining hall that is open late hours within the building and it is in a central location. Living in a double is easy. Just get to know your roommate. A triple gets a bit clustered if you really need to have your privacy. Don't get stuck in a four person quad because that is just horrible. Because our school is so smart and refuses to accommodate the increasing number of students each year, we are overcrowded, so try and befriend some upperclassmen who can pull you into a nicer room assignment for your second and third years.
    Academic Rigor

    Don't play with your grades. This is not high school where you can absorb all the material by simply showing up to class. Skipping class is very unwise. Teachers like to pull most of their test questions from their lectures. Attend office hours, don't be shy. Talk to your advisor as much as possible to map out your academic route. Your advisor is the first person you should talk to about figuring out your future, they will help you as much as possible.
    Tips for prospective students

    Since the campus is large, I recommend you learn the names of buildings and map out your routes to classes before your first day of classes. If you are having any trouble in any classes, DO NOT hesitate to ask you TA or teacher for help. Most teachers are willing to drop your lowest grade, but only one so do not fall behind because you are too shy to seek assistance. Go to football games, they help to prepare you for the seriousness that is UConn Basketball. Explore the campus, it is filled with hidden Easter Eggs of folklore and knowledge. I recommend trying the tuna melt sandwich on a croissant at the Co-op Cafe.

    I can honestly say I have never felt unsafe on campus. There are blue lights everywhere for emergencies, but I've never heard of anyone ever needing one. Campus is well lit and very safe.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is only about 10% of campus. The people in it absolutely love it and it is a great group of people, but you definitely don't need to join to feel included on campus.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are more clubs than one can even imagine. If you can think of it, it probably exists. And if it doesn't, get enough people to support you on it and the school will pay to start one up for you.

    There is a rock on campus that different organizations will take turns guarding and painting their name on. You are not truly a UConn student until you have painted the rock

    Most of the social life is right on campus or just off in walking distance. There are 3 bars right off campus that are very popular as well as several restaurants. On campus there are often concerts and various events going on. Never a dull day.

    It depends on the dining hall, but the food is great here. Students who live off of campus are always begging their on campus friends to swipe them into the dining halls.

    The dorm life is average to other colleges. It is normal for students to live on campus into Junior, even Senior year. There are a lot of housing options, but the better ones are difficult to get into.
    Academic Rigor

    Because it is a state school, UConn has a rep for being not as challenging, but this is not true at all. The course work is challenging and involving, but definitely doable for those who put the time in.
    Tips for prospective students

    Come in with a willingness to meet people and get involved. Like any college, you will only get out of it as much as you put in and this school has a LOT to offer.

    The Union always has something to do, especially Late Night of Fridays and Saturdays. There are always club related activities all around campus to do that you con participate in even if you're not part of that club and you get notification of that through your email. There's always fun things to do! Next week I'm going Zorbing and that's just one of the thousands of cool things one do

    UConn has umerous Dining Halls all around Campus that cater to many different palates. McMahon Dining Hall is the newest and currently most popular Dining Hall on campus that has numerous gourmet option, Whitney caters specially to Vegans and Vegetarians (with regular food items also), and the others host an array of options from soulfoud, to Mexican, to breakfast for dinner.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is awesome, especially is you join a Learning Community. Learning Communities are based on interest or major, or both, and you live with the people in the community and grow together based on activities and services around that concentration. Examples are EcoHouse, Leadership House, WiMSE (Women in Math, Science, and Enineering), Community Service House, EuroTech (Engineering and German Majors), and many more.
    Academic Rigor

    UConn is in the top 20 best for a reason. The staff and faculty are there to help you grow as a student and as a life-long learner. It is quite rigorous but the hard work and diligence is well worth a University of Connecticut degree.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure that you work as hard as you possibly can. UConn is ranked as one of the top 20 Public Universities in the country so as you imagaine, getting in is NOT easy, but it's also (obviously) not impossible. Just be sure to work hard, do your best, and then carry that into your college life - wherever you go.

    The programs that they offer here are AMAZING. Husky Watch and Guard Dogs are the two programs run by students and the campus police. Their job are to make sure students are safe, escorting late night walkers back to their dorm if they just simple call for an escort. If it is out of walking distance, raining, or snowing they will pick you up in their car from one side of campus and bring you to the other side. Dorms are also locked 24/7 and police blue lights alert systems are around campus with a 60 second respond rate!
    Greek Life

    They offer many different sororities and frats here on campus. They are a GREAT way to get involved and meet close friends. Not only do they offer amazing social life to their members but they also give back to their communities. Community service projects, sponsoring programs, and helping the cause of their choice. They are a great way to get involved and you'll never find yourself sitting in your dorm room alone or bored.

    The university is a little on the expensive side, however there are scholarships and grants out there! You just need to apply, apply, apply! Coming here is 100% worth paying due to the fact that a degree from one of the top twenty leading public universities in the United States is not something to just pass by.

    The dorms are actually much quieter than one may think. During the week most students are busy studying for exams and doing homework so you'll find the environment to be very quiet. The weekends are little louder; however, most of the parties actually happen off campus at houses or apartments. So you can choose to surround yourself with the party crowd or enjoy a nice quiet evening in the dorms with friends.
    Academic Rigor

    The professors are amazing here! Although the work load is heavy there are tutors, study groups, and friendly professors that don't mind taking time out of their day to help you. As long as you put in the effort, they put in the effort!
    Tips for prospective students

    1. The campus may seem huge at first sight, but once you learn where all your classes are you'll feel right at home. There is also a great bus transportation system that will bring you anywhere on campus for free. Plus, once you have declared a major most of your classes will be held in the same area of campus, so the walking is cut in half! (Example: school of business) 2. Live on campus! I was not a fan of sharing a bedroom, or a bathroom with twenty girls for that fact. However, living on campus has been one of the best experiences here at UConn. Not only have I met friends that I will keep in touch with forever, but I'm always only a five minute walk to class! My first year I lived off campus in an apartment and I was lonely and bored. Everyday I drove to school, sat in class, and then drove home. Living on campus gave me the opportunity to meet people and never have a boring moment! 3. With that being said; take advantage of the resources! The library is a great place to get away from the noisy dorm. It also is stocked with every resource you could imagine, and if they don't have it there they will get it for you. 4. Get involved! No one likes sitting in there dorm room, or at home, alone. Join a club, meet friends to have lunch with. Study groups, work out classes, club and sports... You only go to college once as a young adult, make sure you make the most of it!

    Guard Dogs! And Husky Watch are two great examples of how the University cares for the students when they're out, for safety. The campus is remarkably safe, I am never afraid of danger or being attacked.

    I LOVE UCONN, but it is getting more expensive to go there. Overall, they take really good care of the students, and have a lot to offer. I would definitely recommend going there. I've been really happy to live on campus for two years, if you're a commuter you will miss out.
    What to do for fun

    Late Night at the Student Union is always fun, and they usually have a lot going on for students. UCONN is basically in cow town Storrs, CT, so there isn't much to do off campus except party. They have been cracking down on partying though, and if you want to then good luck.
    Food and Dining

    I LOVE the food here. South and North are excellent dining halls, and many others on campus have local dairy and produce. McMahon has been newly renovated and it honestly feels like you're dining in the future.
    Dorm Life

    Wonderful dorms! And if anything goes wrong, they are quick to repair. Really nice atmosphere overall.
    Academic Rigor

    It really depends on the class level, most gen eds are easy, but the upper level classes can be very time consuming. I would not recommend taking more than 15 credits a semester unless your classes are short.

    Stay safe and don't get into the partying scene, grades are the reason why you'll get into this school, so keep up the hard work.

    Join Uconn Outing Club if you come! We go hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, caving, bungee jumping, and other stuff all the time. With 2 or more trips almost every weekend, there's plenty of variety and chance to get off campus and do something different. A lot of fun.

    All schools are outrageously expensive now; especially when compared to other developed countries. Uconn is a pretty good deal by USA standards, if you are paying in-state tuition that is.
    What to do for fun

    There's a Theater, always something happening at the Student Union, dozens and dozens of clubs, and you are bound to make friends with similar interests. There's virtually always something to do; each dorm has some sort of game room, and there's an arcade in the Union if billiards and ping-pong don't suit your fancy.
    Food and Dining

    There is great variety between the dining halls and even within themselves. The newly renovated McMahon is extremely fancy and servers on artsy plates with food made by real chiefs. South has the greatest variety and servers ethnic food of all types. East is also notable for being the most vegetarian friendly. None of the dining halls are explicitly bad. Even the worst food seems as good as food from summer camp.
    Dorm Life

    The dorm life is nice, with so many options on campus. The dorms themselves vary greatly, however, and one must attempt to get anything but West or North. I was lucky with a South random pick; I feel like I live in a hotel now, it's very nice. Most dorms do not have air conditioning, so be wary for late and early school year.
    Academic Rigor

    Uconn's academic courses seem to hold to it's top 25 Public Schools in America title. The courses often have a reasonable amount of useful work, and I have yet to do busy work. We aren't getting loads like my friends at CMU or Yale, but one should expect that here.
    Tips for prospective students

    Decent grades, SAT scores, and extra-curricular? It shouldn't be too tricky to get in then. Administration can be a pain to deal with once you are in (but it sounds like that's true for all schools). Thoroughly think about what it'll mean to live in a mini-city of college students and prepare accordingly. Have fun.

    UCONN storrs is a very safe campus. They have many options to get back to your dorm if your out late at night. All you have to do is call guard dogs or husky escort and they get you to where you need to go if you dont feel safe and it's all free!

    The food is pretty good. If the dining hall near your dorm doesn't have a menu that you particularly like then there are many other dining halls on campus to choose from which will definitely have something that you like.     I Love my dorm! it's in a convenient place on campus and the rooms are nice. They are a good size. I also get along well with my roommate.

    My major is nursing and so far the work isn't too hard. the work does require time everyday, but not much time. You'll still have time for a social life

    For me personally the only thing that I've had a problem with so far is getting distracted from school work. There are a lot of things going on on campus which are very tempting at times. I would suggest that any prospective student try to learn self discipline skills, if they don't already have it, so they will be able to stay focused on what they are here for.

    There are so many different choices on where and what to eat on campus, and the food is well-cooked and well-prepared. It's all delicious and there's a wide variety.

    There is such a strong sense of community in each residence hall, with most floors holding group events like planning meal times all together or going to a sporting event/activity on campus. Orientation and move-in weekend provide plenty of opportunities for students to get to know one another and bond.

    I always feel safe at UConn whether it is the day or night. If you do not feel confident walking back to your dorm from a night class, there is a service you can call and they will escort you to your residence hall. Always use the buddy system if you do not feel safe however. If you ever happen to be in the worst case scenario and do not know where you are, the campus is always lit up with blue emergency lights that you can follow. Also, if you ever want to report something bad, you can always call Watch Dogs, which is our own UConn police department.
    Greek Life

    I do not know much about the Greek life but there are many sorority and fraternities a person can join. They range from people with similar majors to people who share a common ethnicity.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many clubs and Activities that I do not know where to start. During the first two weeks of class, be sure to check out the Involvement Fair where the 500 clubs and activities gather to recruit new people and to keep the students informed about what goes around in the University. It ranges from showcasing the break-dancing club to Dumbledore's Army, which will be pretty popular for Harry Potter fans. One of the Programs I am in, called Jump-start, works with little kids to help them transition into school surroundings.
    Great for these types of students

    If you are big on your ethnicity or culture, make sure you visit the Cultural Centers at the Student Union. For example, the Puerto Rican and Latin American Cultural Center always celebrates Hispanic heritage by putting together dance classes to teach Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and so on. They also host parties and Community Outreach programs.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Make sure that at your Orientation for the University of Connecticut that you at least visit the statue of Johnathan the Husky, our mascot. It is good luck to rub on his nose. Also, do not walk straight through the seal that is in between the library and the Center for Undergraduate Building because I was told it was bad luck by graduate students. make sure you at least visit the famous UConn Dairy Bar and try their home made ice cream. It's delicious!

    Take advantage of the sales at the University of Connecticut Co-op store because it can get very expensive. Also, there is a coupon book that your Resident Assistant will give you during the first few weeks of school that has discounts from restaurants in Storrs. Take full advantage of that because you will not always want to eat a the dining halls.
    What to do for fun

    while many undergraduates come into college expecting to party, it is not the only way to have fun on campus. There is an arcade in the Student Union with all the game systems, ice hockey, two lanes for bowling, and so much more. My personal favorite is the Guitar Hero game because I am very good at it. You can also go to Late Night, which is an event at the Student Union every weekend night where they offer henna tattoos, karaoke, so many other things. You will always know what it is going on here at UConn because of the email system that alerts you of all the different events you can attend throughout the week.
    Food and Dining

    The food here is overall decent but I personally was tired of it quickly because I missed the home cooked meals. However, there is such a variety of food that you will never go starving. One of the dining halls is specifically for vegans and vegetarians while another one serves comfort food in a buffet style. Take advantage of the points that come with your meal plan. Points are kind of like money and you can use them to buy food at the Union Street Market where they sell soups, salads, pasta, burritos, pizza, grinders, and so much more. Basically one point is the equivalent of one dollar but make sure you use them wisely because once they are all gone, you cannot get anymore until the nest semester starts. If you are in a hurry to class or do not have time to sit down and eat, you can always stop at a Grab-and-go location where they can quickly make wraps, sandwiches, and grinders.
    Dorm Life

    The residential life is great here, especially if you decide to live in a Learning Community. As part of the Women in Math, Science. and Engineering Learning Community, I have found it easier to have connections with people and find my true friends. It creates a smaller community within such a large campus that focuses on bonding with your peers by engaging in community service programs and attending social events together. It truly feels like a second home here because there is a sense of unity among all of us. Once you become an upperclassman and feel like you can afford it, you can live in an apartment with friends or request to live in a suite.
    Academic Rigor

    At times many of the assignments seem impossible or you may feel as if you cannot get all your work done on time. I promise that if you take deep breaths and take breaks while studying and doing your work, you will be just fine. Also, take advantage of your Professor's or Teaching Assistant's office hours because they really do want to see you succeed and are always to willing to help if you do not understand a topic discussed or need some clarity. Also, if you feel like you are struggling with your classes, you can always sign up for tutoring at either the Writing Center to get papers edited or at the Q Center where they can help with Chemistry or Math courses.
    Tips for prospective students

    Walking will be your new best friend here so be prepared to walk a lot, especially if you are not sure how the bus schedules work here. Also, make sure that you get involved in activities and clubs starting your freshman year so that you can build up your resume but no so much that you feel overwhelmed. It is also a great opportunity to meet new people and expand your circle so take advantage of that so that you are not sitting in your room with nothing to do. Do not become lazy! College is a whole new world where you are completely independent and can make your decisions so make sure they are good ones.

    There aren't many crimes around campus, just remember to lock your door and you'll be fine. There are always police around, and the Blue Light system is usually in sight. They're very nice and helpful as well so if you're having any issues with your safety feel free to contact them. They will not arrest you if you call 911 for someone getting alcohol poisoning. They're very understanding and aren't really looking to get you in trouble.
    Greek Life

    A HUGE part of campus life, way more than I expected. There are a decent amount of parties thrown by Frats so if you're a guy I would join or you'll have a little trouble getting into those parties unless you want to pay an outrageous cover fee. You also can barely walk 5 minutes on campus without seeing someone wearing greek letters on any given day. I tried to be in a sorority but its quite a hefty fee. If its something you're interested in just do it, you can always back out if it's not for you.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are tons of clubs and activities but the uconntact website is not the place to contact people about joining things. Definitely go to the involvement fairs, thats the best place to join.

    Oozeball (I think thats how its spelled) Where you play volleyball in the mud, the various rocks on campus that are constantly being painted, and rubbing a Husky statues nose for good luck are all pretty unique things. Not sure of any unusual locations Its a state college its pretty generic.

    Included in your tuition are free fitness classes at Bodywise, a free Gym membership, free transportation on buses, and a lot of other cool stuff.
    What to do for fun

    The UConn campus tends to come alive on all nights of the week, particularly Fridays. Frats tend to throw some of the better parties but if you're a guy its hard to get in without paying or knowing somebody. If you're a girl you'll have no problem. On another side there are lots of clubs and activities to do (check out the Undergrad News letter that comes daily. Super annoying but full of plenty to do), and theres always a sporting event to attend.
    Food and Dining

    The food isn't all too great. There are lots of dining hall options based on location, however you need to find the one you like best. On the down side most of them have weird hours (Towers Dining Hall closes at 7:15, where others are open until 10. Also they open at 10am on weekends and I find myself starving to death if I wake up early). Get a good meal plan, because the places that require Husky Bucks and Points happen to be the better food options, and they're super convenient to have in the Union.
    Dorm Life

    The freshman dorms are not very glorious, and a huge problem I've noticed is that the ceiling tiles fall off. Bring lots of things to decorate with like christmas lights and posters, tapestries are nice too. Some rooms have curtain rods too. Not all rooms have Wi-Fi so make sure you can hook up to ethernet or bring a router to plug in. The RA's are very laid back in most cases and as long as you're not being loud or annoying they don't care what you do. Room inspections are a joke in a sense. My friend keeps a lizard in her room and they didn't even notice. Don't leave alcohol out and you'd be fine.

    Campus safety is a number one priority here at Uconn but you can probably say the same for any other campus. Police cars are always seen around campus 24/7. We even have our own police and fire station right on campus for the convience of any emergency. The University also sends out messages to alert everyone on campus whenever something goes on so we can also be aware of our own safety.
    Greek Life

    Again there are also a great number of different Greek Lifes. In the beginning of the fall semester, there is usually a Greek picnic where you can go out and see all the different types of Greek lifes that Uconn offers.

    You can find a wide variety of clubs and acitivities from the trampoline to the skydiving club. Every type of activity that you can possibly think of, we have. And even if the activity isn't offered here, starting your own club is pretty easy!

    Attending the sport games here is high up in popularity when you want to have some fun. We huskies are very into our school spirit and love cheering on our fellow students.

    Located in the middle of campus is the Student Union which has a couple of fast food places which can come in handy when you don't feel like eating at a dining hall. The dining halls vary from food or even theme nights but for the majority, they basically all offer the same food.

    The dorm life is not all that great at the University of Connecticut; not completely bad nor great. The rooms can be a bit small, of course depending on where you are put.     They are serous about security here. There certainly no reasons for you to get worried. The police are always vigilant, and there are emergency buttons that you can press all over campus. Moreover, they have an escorting service that any student may solicit by phone if they feel they can't walk to there destination.

    They have a small mall on campus that student hangout in, and all sorts of sport facilities for student use. Moreover, there is always some sort of event you can attend. They also have a wide variety of clubs you can join (including sport clubs).

    I would rate UConn as a very safe college. It has UConn Police (obviously), Email/Text Safety Alerts and my favorite-big blue poles with a button that calls the police if you need help. You are always near one, since they are spread all over campus and supposedly at any given location you always see two of them.

    You are bound to find some club or activity that will fit your needs. Be sure to attend the Activity Fair in the first few weeks of the year. Most of the clubs are represented and some even give out free gifts.
    Bang for the buck

    Since UConn is a public institution, it is way cheaper than most other private colleges. I got accepted to multiple private universities, but if I had to choose again, I would still go to UConn.
    What to do for fun

    The weekends do get somewhat boring, because you are surrounded by a forest and cannot go to the city unless you want to pay. However, if you join a club like the UConn Outdoors Club you will be occupied during weekends, meet new people and have fun in the process.

    UConn boasts five large dining halls spread all over the campus as well as few smaller ones. This goes in addition to Panda Express and DD at the Student Union as well as multiple other places at the newly opened Storrs Center right by Buckley Residence Hall. The food is decent, but be sure to visit McMahon dining hall. The food there is simply better and you also get to try cuisines from around the world.

    Dorm life is fantastic. The RAs organize a variety of events during the year that allow you to meet and develop friendships with many people of various backgrounds. The housing is alright for the most part. Tips for doing laundry-Monday or Saturday morning is the best.

    This depends entirely on the type of classes that you enroll in. Some of the professors are naturally stricter than others, but that does not mean that they are worse. On the contrary they might even be more knowledgeable about their fields. I also have never had a problem approaching my professors.

    As with any college, the key to success is making friends at an early stage. They will be the people you depend on for the rest of the semester if not for the end of your college career. Also, if possible load up on AP credits-they help A LOT.

    I am constantly fascinated by campus safety. At UCONN we have our own police department and the communication with the students is extraordinary. In the case of a breech of security, campus officals communicate with students and constantly update our knowledge of procedures. I have never felt more safe.

    Greek life on campus is not what I expected. As a member of Greek life, I was hesitant on the morals and customs. However, I have found Greek life to be one of the most positive aspects of my life on campus.     What to do for fun

    You can attend Late Night in the Student Union, go to the movies, go see a play or concert in Jorgenson, or pretty much anything else that you want to . There is a bunch of stuff to do on campus at Storrs. Just remember that academics should come first. However at the regional campus, activities are VERY limited. Besides the scarce hypnotist show or health fair, you are pretty much there to attend classes and that's it. The Associated Student Government plays a large role in the activities at the GHC, so if you want to change the lack of activities, I suggest joining.
    Food and Dining

    The dining halls offer a variety of options, such as vegan food, taco nights, pizza nights, etc. The dining hall that I would suggest is McMahon, because it offers lots of healthy choices in appropriate portions rather than serving you in a buffet style. If dining halls aren't your thing, you can always order wings, pizza, calzones, etc, or go to one of many nearby restaurants. Also Insomnia Cookies delivers until 3:00a.m., which is excellent for late night snacks. At the regional campus, you can either dine in the cafeteria, or go to one of the nearby restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    I don't have a dorm as a commuter, but I have been in plenty. They are pretty tiny, and if you aren't comfortable with sharing such a small space with someone, I say to spring the extra money for a single. It will save you a lot of headache. Also, try not to room with your best friend, because you will most likely grow to resent them. The atmosphere in the dorms is great though, and you usually grow very close to the people in it, especially if you live in a learning community.
    Academic Rigor

    As a commuter, I have taken classes at both the Greater Hartford Campus, and at Storrs, and they are both very rigorous. The classes at Storrs are slightly more difficult than the ones at the regional campus, as the class sizes are much larger and many programs try to weed out students. At the regional campus, class sizes are smaller and more personal. However I think the quality of the education and the motivation to succeed thrives more at Storrs,
    Tips for prospective students

    I encourage you to strive to keep your GPA up, and apply early. As more students apply, the less your chances of getting into the main campus at Storrs becomes. However, you can also attend one of several regional campuses, which can save you a lot of money.

    At Uconn there are so many options for instance, joining the Greek Life to experience their values and sister/brotherhood. There are also a lot of Late Night events that are held during the weekends, which may include dancing, making sundaes, making T's, or simply hanging out with friends at the Student Union.

    It may seem like everyone at UCONN is a part of Greek Life which might pressure you to join, but don't join just for friends. Many sororities and fraternities take up a LOT of your time and leave little time for things like studying and sleeping. Though they can be a lot of fun, rushing should be done second semester of freshman year so that the transition to college can be the entire focus of first semester. My friend rushed first semester and said she was so busy she wish she waited till this semester.

    There is so much to do here and so many clubs that everyone will find something that makes them happy.

    Horsebarn Hill is awesome to climb at night and look at the stars or a meteor shower. There are also cows and horses that are taken care of by the students that people can see. There are also many events like the Homecoming carnival and parade and Lipsync is so fun!

    There's always Late NIght in the Student Union on Fridays and Saturdays and there's usually pretty current movies playing in the Student Union Theater. There's also off-campus frat parties, bars, and a hookah bar too.

    For the most part the dorms I have seen aren't that bad, but it's not so much the physical dorm that's important, it's the friends you make in your dorm that make it worth living there.

    I am in the honors program and I can say that the academic rigor so far has not been too hard. I think it's easier than my AP U.S. History class junior year of high school. There is also a lot more free time so managing time well and not procrastinating are skills one should learn early on.

    Go to the involvement fair and get involved in everything that interests you. Go to a bunch of meetings and then figure out what you are really interested in and stick with those few things. I have found some of my best friends through clubs that I joined. If I had gone to a smaller school I would not be able to do all the things I do now and would have half the opportunities that I do at UCONN.

    I feel safe at UConn. Every street and every corner is lit up by an emergency pole. These emergency pole's have alerting buttons that call our on-campus police/security and respond immediately. We also have a shuttle system, bussing students from one side of campus to the other. On the weekends various Sober Ride cars make rounds bringing students back to their dorms safely, intoxicated or not. UConn has a fantastic safety program and I couldn't feel safer anywhere else.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is very big at UConn, but it isn't the most important thing. Greek life here offers a family oriented college life and is very social and popular. But it isn't to say that if you aren't in Greek life you wont meet anyone or do anything fun. Most students are not in Greek life and still have amazing experiences here.
    Clubs and Activities

    You find what you look for. Here at UConn there is a club for almost anything. And in the rare case that you don't find that club, you are more than welcome to start it. Even so, the clubs here are well organized and very welcoming of new members.

    The University of Connecticut is good for anyone who would like to try something new. It is definitely beginner friendly. I had never rock climbed before, and the students in the rock climbing club were very friendly and open for helping me learn. I feel as though my friends and I have all gotten great opportunities to try things we usually wouldn't, and it seems to be an on-campus habit.

    Horsebarn Hill is located behind the famous UConn Dairy Bar (home of some of the greatest ice cream ever). This hill is fantastic for sledding, star gazing, and just has one of the best views of the campus itself.
    Bang for the buck

    As I've mentioned, UConn is a great bang for your buck. Not only do you get the same value education as you would in an Ivy League but you have better options as well. There are a lot of exchange opportunities making study abroad much more affordable then you'd think. On top of that we have a fantastic meal plan and great deals with student prices for travel, shopping, and events.
    What to do for fun

    UConn has over 500 student organizations, and if you can't find something for you all you need is 8 people to start something new! But really, there will probably be something for you. UConn does a fantastic job at giving it's students opportunities to try something new, from Late Night (weekend activities every Friday and Saturday) to movies, marathons, adventure races, Improv shows, concerts, and many opportunities to travel.
    Food and Dining

    On-campus students must have meal plans. These meal plans are very much affordable and worth it! With 7 dining halls multiple cafes and grab and go (subs/wrap) spots UConn has solved on-campus hunger! Students are given unlimited swipes to dining halls, points to use in cafes and restaurants, and even flex passes to bring in guests to our dining halls. The best part is that the food is delicious, and very friendly to allergenic, vegan, and organic specialties.
    Dorm Life

    The University of Connecticut has been around for a long time, needless to say a lot of the buildings here are older. But the University has done a fantastic job upgrading these buildings to maintain comfortable and nice Residence Halls. With our Co-Generation Plant we never lose heat or energy, even in the worst of storms, because we produce our own electricity and heat.
    Academic Rigor

    All of UConn's faculty are top of the line PhD, thus more than qualified for the job. We get incredible education and even more incredible opportunities to challenge ourselves.

    Ask students on-campus what they like to do with the University of Connecticut. It will surprise you when you hear the amazing places and activities we have from rock climbing with the outing club to adventuring with the sky diving club.

    My dorm is really nice. The bathrooms are relatively good. The RA's are cool. The janitors are always the funniest.

    UConn at Storrs is generally very safe, there aren't any hoodlums per say, roaming late at night. I walk back from the library at ungodly hours of the night frequently and it is very quiet.
    Greek Life

    There are many sororities and fraternities on campus, I cannot possibly write down all of them. Join the right one for you, and I assure you it will be a great experience.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many clubs you can join. Beginning of every semester, there is a club fair where you can walk around and learn about the different organizations and sign up for meetings if you like.

    Students who are independent, motivated, and have a lot of goals will thrive at UConn. Many times, UConn offers a ton of great opportunities but students miss it because they aren't aware. If you are willing to seek them, you will get them.

    There is a trail that leads to the apartments slightly off campus, and it is called the rape-trail. Don't worry though, nothing actually happens on that trail.

    So much variety I don't know where to begin! Though food does get boring -- I eat it everyday, every meal mind you, it has to be one of the better dining colleges, especially with the new dining hall which serves brick oven pizza daily!

    Listen, I lived in an all guys building -- the only on campus, which was also one of the oldest, smallest, and most far away... and I had a BLAST! So many people live on campus there's always something to do. That said, the housing selection is competitive.

    I've so far lucked out with professors, rating websites are both to be avoided and utilized (they can scare you away from good classes, but some professors are just BAD)

    *GET INVOLVED! (join clubs, attend sporting events) *never be afraid to get help from the Q Center or office hours *an on campus job is truly worth it

    The school has everything a traditional college has to offer and more. It's a solid public university with great athletics and academics. Just be wary: this isn't the most exotic choice and from time to time it feels like I'm going to school in the Arctic.

    If you are an in-state student and want to go to grad school, UConn is a great feeder school to top grad institutions. Why bother spending 50k+ a year when you can pay 23k for the same quality if not better educational experience.

    There are hundreds of clubs to join and things from student activities office.

    There are plenty of choices from the 8 dining halls to the offerings in the Student Union. There is always something to eat especially when everyone with a meal plan has unlimited swipes into any dining hall.

    Freshman dorms are a great place to meet new friends.

    Depending on your major, you will have different course challenges. If you study, go to the TA and the professor you will do fine. There's also tutoring available to all students in math and science courses.

    Find something you like to do and find something that is related to your career. These activities will act as a foundation in your student involvement. Meet other freshman! These people will most likely be your friend base for the next four years.

    Depending on your major, school can very pretty difficult. It's no longer highs school so you have to step up on your reading and test taking skills.

    Make sure you feel comfortable with having a classroom filled with over 200 students because most of your classes will consist of this class size. If you are struggling in a class be sure to take advantage of the free tutoring that uconn provides, depending on what class you need help in.

    I really enjoy this school. I really enjoy the big campus, its almost like uconn is its own town. There are also nice trails and hiking spots located in and around uconn.
