    Great for these types of students

    The University of Evansville is definitely for students who are looking at an academic college. Most students are there on academic scholarship, or are serious about their studies. Although this is the case there are still plenty of parties and activities to encourage people to get away from their books and enjoy the college experience.
    Tips for prospective students

    A campus visit is a must! This is the only way to fully understand why everyone says the professors and staff are so friendly. The university doesn't put on a show during their open houses either. Everyone acts as if it was just any other day. Whether you attend Road Trip, Scholarship Day, an open house, or schedule a private visit get to the campus and experience it for yourself.
    Bang for the buck

    Although the school is very expensive (about $34,000 a year), over 90% of students receive some sort of financial aid and/or scholarships. These scholarships are for large amounts with many different categories for all types of students.
    Am enjoying being here

    The small campus is great for me, and with only 2,500 kids the professors have a lot of opportunity to get to know their students. I am an honor's student here and the program is wonderful. It has forced me to explore cultural activities I never thought I'd enjoy. Even outside of campus there is plenty to do. UE's location offers great ways to get away from the books for a while.
    Am learning a lot

    After only a single semester I feel like I've learned a lot from all of my classes so far. Even classes that I thought I would hate have something to learn from. The professors are amazing and willing to talk to you and answer questions you may have, even if it is unrelated to the course material. Other students are also willing to teach others what they have learned so far.

    I would say everyone, really. Although, if you're looking to party your way through school, be forewarned that it's a dry campus! Also, there is a Greek pressence on campus. The fraternities are all right around the corner (literally). However, the sororities don't have any house; has to do with an old Indiana law that never got thrown out. But although there is a Greek pressence, it's certainly not the only thing on campus either. There's also a really strong international pressence, and some really great organizations to go along with that: International Student Club, I-House, and I-Pals. Honestly, there truly is something for everyone here.
    Tips for prospective students

    Go for a campus visit--during the school year. You need to be on the campus to truly get a feel for what life is like there. And don't be afraid to contact the admissions office if you have questions, either. They're always really helpful and really friendly.
    Bang for the buck

    Although UE is a wonderful place to be, it is expensive. $34,000 a year is a lot of money. Especially since it doesn't always seem like that money is going places that I would like it to. However, they are really great about trying to get you the greatest amount of aid as possible, which was a big plus for me. The fact that I pay, after the scholarships and work study, the same amount as attending an in-state college.... That's banking.

    I absolutely love UE!! Although the dorms aren't always the greatest and I complain about the food a lot, the students, professors, and faculty make up for it. I've made so many friends, and from all around the world, too! I could never think of studying anywhere else!
    Am learning a lot

    UE really has so much to offer in terms of learning, especially on the global front. Not only have I learned a lot from my professors in the classroom on campus, but I've learned so much from the students around me as well. With 8% of students international, how can you not learn something? Plus, the study abroad programs are great. I attend Harlaxton College, UE's English campus, last spring, and this fall I'm studying in Rennes, France through CIEE. Studying abroad has taught me so much about myself, about the world, and, of course, about my subjects of study, too!

    This university is great for students who are looking into studying abroad since there are so many choices to choose from, and your scholarships will travel with you wherever you go. Also there is a really good Physical Therapy and Nursing program. It is great for Engineering students too.
    Tips for prospective students

    Go potluck to find your roommate your freshman year: they are great at pairing up people who you will get along with well and have similar interests as you.

    Because it is a private school, tuition and other fees are really expensive, but it's worth it. Many of the facilities are brand new and have the best technology which makes paying this much worth it.
    Am enjoying being here

    Since it is a small school, it is easy to know most of the students here. This makes it great for getting involved in activities such as Greek Life, Student Government or International Club. There are so many different organizations that you will always find something to do.
    Am learning a lot

    While some of the classes seem quite similar to high school honor and AP courses, there are many, even at the 100-level that are challenging. The professors like what they are teaching which makes the lectures interesting and they put what they are trying to say into a way for college students to understand. Also, they make the students try for the answer and make them think outside of the box for how to explain problems.

    If you are looking for a college to seem like a second home, this is the place for you. With a small student body, this university is great for those students desiring to be more than a number. If you are looking for a college where you are familiar with the majority of people and where all your professors know you and are genuinely concerned with your education, you will find your home at U.E. Because this is a Division I school, the University of Evansville is great for those students looking for the full college experience in a small school environment while desiring a quality education.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not overlook this university solely because of finances. They give phenomenal scholarships and are extremely helpful. Also, be sure to take the time to get to know all the diverse students around you on campus. Much can be learned from a simple conversation with an international student and lasting bonds can be formed. As a prospective student, I encourage you to physically come to campus and take a tour and even spend the night with a current student (this can be set up by the admissions office). This will help you to get the true feel of campus and ensure you are well informed before making your decision.

    Although the University of Evansville is a private university and therefore more expensive than many public colleges, the extra dollars are definitely worth what you get out of the university. Also, the financial aid office is extremely helpful and works with you to help you come up with a payment plan and in answering any questions you may have. My mind has been expanded through this liberal arts education and through interactions with students. This campus really turns into your new home once you arrive and you find a secondary family in your fellow students and professors. Because the campus is so small, you really have the opportunity to form lasting relationships with your professors. They are always eager to answer any questions or write recommendations for you. In the long run, the education and relationships you obtain from this university far outweighs the increased price for being a private school.

    With many activities going on constantly on campus, there is always something to do when you are not studying. I enjoy much time in the student fitness center in addition to attending Division I athletic events and participating in athletics myself through the dance team. In addition to athletics, there are a myriad of clubs available to join on campus and countless opportunities to get involved. If you are looking for an interactive campus, this is the place for you. Because the University of Evansville is not a suitcase campus, as a student you have more of an opportunity to form lasting friendships with your fellow students. With some activity always going on or studying to do, I am immensely enjoying my time on campus.
    Am learning a lot

    As a liberal arts college, the University of Evansville is expanding my mind through my general education in addition to teaching me about my interests through my major classes. Although keeping up with my studies takes dedication on my part and a large time commitment, the rewards of my expanded knowledge are worth it. A student can also learn a lot outside of the classroom from the many international students on campus and the events these student put on. My mind has also been opened to the beauty of the theatre program on campus through attending the productions. A student also has the opportunity to learn about oneself through living away from home and having the interaction of living with a roommate. In all areas, including in and out of the classroom, I am learning as much as I can here at U.E.

    Do a campus visit. It was only after my campus visit and talking to professors that I knew UE was the place for me.

    The school is expensive. The only objection I have is that it is not well known outside of the Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois area.

    I love UE. The professors are welcoming and helpful. The other students are happy to be here. People really care about you.

    The University may not be the most academically challenging school in the nation, but there are so many options to learn outside of the classroom. I have learned a lot about other cultures through the diverse student population and I feel that after only one year, UE has made me a global citizen.

    University of Evansville is great for a types of students. There are some jocks, preppy kids, and nerds on campus. There are some students that go above and beyond and some students that just make it through. There are a lot of international students and quite a few students who are physically and mentally handicapped. There are many students on campus that have learning disabilities. This is one of the best things about UE, the diversity.
    Tips for prospective students

    My tip is to really look into any school that you are interested in. Visiting the campus is a great way to get a feel for the school. Talk to the students and teachers while you are there. If the campus doesn't feel right or you are not comfortable on campus, then chances are that school is not for you. Don't go somewhere just because everyone else wants you to go there.

    University of Evansville is a private school. It does cost quite a bit, about 37,000 a year for students living on campus. However, don't let this stop you. They have a great financial aid office, and they are always willing to help out as needed. They have some great scholarships as well. Despite the price, the school really is one of those schools were you get bang for your buck. The professors really know what they are talking about, the facilities are great, and the atmosphere is exceptional. Beyond that, the school is in a big city with lots of tourist attractions, yet the campus has about 2,300 students on a compact campus. You don't feel over run by the city.

    It is a great campus to be a part of. It is such an involved campus. If one small group has an event, then all the other groups help out and add to that event to make it even more interesting. The students, staff, and faculty are so nice; everyone is always coming up to you to see how everything is going in and out of your classes.
    Am learning a lot

    I have not even been at Evansville for a full semester, and I am already learning a lot. The World Cultures class is really neat because you read books from all over the world from many different time periods. It allows for some unique insight into our world and problems we face. One of the coolest classes I have is Education 200: Intro to Diversity. We talk about the differences and similarities in races and cultures and how these comparisons might transfer into the classroom. This class is all about how to be culturally competent.

    There is really a wide variety of people on this campus. I've made friends with people with health problems and disabilities, people from other countries, people from Evansville, people who like to party, people who don't, people who work hard in class, people who slack off, people very active in fraternities and sororities, and people who have no interest in Greek life. UE is what you make of it.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be sure to come and visit. Full of Hoosier hospitality, UE does an excellent job of showing people around and making them feel welcome. Every winter there is a unique program called RoadTrip for highschool seniors who have applied to UE and been accepted. These students are picked up by bus and transported to UE, where they get to spend a couple of nights in a dorm with current UE students and attend special events. I did this when I was a senior, and it was a very helpful and enjoyable experience for me. I felt like a UE college student without the homework.

    The University of Evansville is not a cheap school and I feel like they rip us off with the meal plans. However, they are very good at giving scholarships (check their website - there are almost twenty awards listed). Another thing that impressed me is their study abroad program. UE owns a college campus in England called Harlaxton, and a semester's tuition there for a UE student is the same as a semester in Evansville. Financial aid and scholarships follow you over as well (but you have to pay for the airplane ticket). Many students here study abroad at some point, and all the ones I've spoken with tell me it was the highlight of their college experience.
    Am enjoying being here

    I definitely enjoy being here, even though I prefer the country to the city. The main campus is small enough to walk across in ten minutes, and most of the buildings are very nice. Since it is a small school, classes are not huge, and I feel that the professors are readily available. There are over 160 clubs and organizations on campus, plus Greek life, so there is always plenty to do. (UE is a dry campus, though... at least, officially dry.) The Ridgeway University Center, which houses the bookstore, cafeteria, convenience shop, cafe, Eykamp auditorium, and many offices, is a wonderful resource for playing pool, watching TV, studying, getting on the computer, or hanging out with friends on the couches.
    Am learning a lot

    One of the main reasons why I wanted to come to UE was what I would learn here. For a small school, it has an exceptionally good and recognized music program. All the professors who have taught my classes so far, whether music or Major American Writers I, have been dedicated and knowledgeable. Although, musician that I am, I gripe about being forced to study biology, the general education requirements are actually somewhat flexible. The gen ed classes are divided into categories such as American Traditions and Science and Technology. Students can then choose a certain number of classes from each category. Best of all, the British class offered at UE's sister campus in England can be substituted for the requirements in two categories. All freshmen at UE take two gen ed courses that cannot be replaced or skipped - World Cultures and First Year Seminar. Although these classes are complained about a lot, I found them helpful. They prepare students for writing papers and giving presentations in future classes.

    UE is great for students who want the homey feel of a small campus. It’s good for students who want to recognize the people they see on campus every day. You’ll get to know the people in your classes and you’ll get to know the staff members that you spend time with. If you’re looking for a big campus and a big community, UE just isn’t for you.
    Tips for prospective students

    My number one tip is to visit campus. I firmly believe that you won’t know whether you really like or really don’t like a college until you visit. Even spend the night if you want to. Attend a mock class. Talk to your potential future professors. Basically: Know what you’re getting in to before you sign the check. It’s important that your college works for you and has what you want. I think everyone can find their niche, whether it’s at UE or somewhere else.

    I have to say that I think UE is worth the money you pay to attend. Yes, it is an expensive school, but there are so many opportunities for financial aid. If you truly want to attend this school, the people here will do what they can to make it happen. The personal attention is absolutely wonderful. I love not feeling like a number in the crowd. My professors know my name and know what to do to help me succeed. I have made so many friends and been given so many opportunities just because I attend this university. It is absolutely worth every penny.

    I definitely enjoy UE. The atmosphere was another of my deciding factors when I chose to go here. The people are absolutely wonderful. When I walked on campus, I knew that I belonged. Everyone gets along and respects everyone else. Of course there are cliques and such, but it’s a school, all schools are like that. The professors and other staff members treat students as equals and care about your daily life and success. The other students are polite and nice to everyone. Plus, everyone dresses decently and behaves well. I really like how collectively mature campus is. Also, the social life is wonderful. It’s a small campus but there are many organizations to be a part of. Greek life is quite a big deal on campus as well as the over 160 campus organizations from Quidditch Club to Chemistry Club. Not to mention that the campus puts on activities nearly every day to give students options.
    Am learning a lot

    One of the reasons I chose to attend UE was for the academic experience. The curriculum is difficult and challenging, but I didn’t want to go to a school where I would make easy A’s. The classes are hard; however, there are many opportunities for you to get help if you need it. Professors have office hours, there are supplemental instruction sessions, tutors are absolutely free, and the writing center helps edit papers for free. You also have your academic advisor that is always available to help you and point you in the right direction. I will admit that some classes are tougher than I would like, but with all the resources I have here, I’m still making good grades.

    Campus Safety

    Since the University of Evansville is a very small school, campus security is great. They are always there if you need them, and if you were to ever feel unsafe, they are very willing to escort you to where you need to go.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are plenty of clubs on campus, and tons of activities. The student activity board (SAB) hosts many free events for students to go to and just have fun. There is even a few dances on campus every year.
    What to do for fun

    At the University of Evansville, there is something for everybody to do. Most people join clubs, such as the Venturing Crew, Medieval Society, Foreign language clubs, and many others also. If there are no clubs you are interested in, then if you can find a few people and an advisor, you can start your own club!
    Food and Dining

    The cafeteria is the main source of meals, especially for freshman or those who don't like to cook. You always get plenty of food to eat, and there is a good variety. For those that like to cook, there is a kitchen in every dorm, or if you just need a quick coffee, right next to the cafeteria is our coffee shop. Next to that is a small convenience store, which you can go to if you ever wanted to grab something quick from there.
    Dorm Life

    Living in a dorm is just part of college life. You get to know your roommate as the first person usually in your dorm, but soon after you get to know most of the people on your floor. The resident assistants who live on the same dorm floor as you will hold floor events to get to know your floor better, and are always there to help you if you have any concerns.
    Academic Rigor

    Academics are very important at the University of Evansville. Since the classes are generally small, the professor can get to know you better, and is always willing to help with any problems you may have with the class.
    Tips for prospective students

    If there is a class that you might have a bit of trouble in, don't be afraid to talk to the professor. They are always willing to help, and if you would rather ask a student in your class, they are always happy to help. Your advisor is always there for you too, and can help you with almost anything.
    In three sentences

    The University of Evansville is a very close-knit community. The small classes allow you to know your professors, and get any extra help that is needed. Everybody is very friendly, and always willing to help.

    Students who are comfortable with a small campus and small class size. Students who don't mind the weather.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get your scholarships lined up! Take a visit to the school first and then again. You want to make sure this is where you want to be (somewhat expensive).

    The one draw back, UE is quite expensive for out of state students. I have had to look for scholarships to help defray the costs in attending. On the other hand, I really enjoy the school it's like a second home. It's not sunny California, winter is really winter.

    Coming from sunny California, I was a little unsure how well I would be adjusting. After just one semester, I have found I couldn't attend any other college/university except for UE. The students, teachers, staff and the entire Evansville community are genuinely nice people who are there to help you when you need it. I couldn't imagine any other University as warm as Evansville, even in the winter! You are never idle at the University, there is always something to do. I really enjoy participating in community volunteering events as I feel that I need to give back. I am so fortunate to be here!

    At UE with the different classes selections based on your major. I soon discovered with UE's help that the major I originally selected was one that was far from my career goal. UE help me realize what I really wanted to major in!

    This school definitely seems worth the money. Even with the many scholarships and grants they give, the education Evansville provides seems priceless.
    Will enjoy being here

    I really think I would enjoy going to this school. There are so many different clubs and bands that I know I would highly enjoy being a part of. On top of that, there are so many volunteer opportunities available as well as athletic teams and groups to join. The atmosphere is really appealing.
    Will learn a lot

    So far, Evansville really seems like the place where education opportunities are in abundance. From everything I have heard and read, the teachers seem really involved in their students success in everything they do.

    If you are a prospective Theater major, Writing/Creative Writing major, Physical Therapy major, or Nursing major, this is the perfect place for you. We dominate in those areas, especially Theater. It is very competitive to go get into, but you know you are good if you get accepted into the program.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are from the south, beware of bland food! Bring spices from home and barbecue sauce! Also, buy your warm clothing here and not from home. The clothes are made differently and you will be freezing in the fall and winter if you are wearing sweaters and coats from back home. I'm from Texas and I'm going to have to buy North Face pretty soon.

    This school is worth the money and the money is very well spent. It is very reasonable and you won't be wasting your money by coming here.

    I love it here! The people are here are amazing and very friendly. They are also very helpful. The dorm life is better than what I could have expected and it's not as crazy as the movies make it. The environment is very laid back and you always have an opportunity to be involved in some way.
    Am learning a lot

    The teachers here are phenomenal and are very helpful in class and out. When signing up for classes for my first semester here, I was really worried and didn't know what to do, but my adviser was really helpful and was really easy to get along with. He ended up being one of my teachers and his classes are great! The teachers here teach you and prepare you for future test and for the outside world. Also, it is very beneficial being in small classes because you get the attention that you need. Even if you are in a class full of 20 people, the teacher still learns your name and gets to know you.

    My biggest tip is thus: do not attend this school. It's campus is dingy and overrun with heinously obese squirrels. It lacks diversity and, should one be a minority, it is not a good place to be.

    I would not touch this place with a ten-meter pole. It is too expensive for the mediocre education that one would receive from this school.

    I hated my visit. It was, simply put, a mess. I have never been to a school where I was treated more poorly. Perhaps it is because I am a minority, or because my surname is Jewish, but I felt quite out of place at this school and the dean did not treat me or my family well when he met us, despite the fact that I would bring top 1% test scores in the ACT and SAT to their school.
    Will learn a lot

    Its programs seem mediocre at best. Biology appears to be fairly decent, but their music department's chair is quite inappropriate and swore repeatedly in front of parents. That is, to be blunt, rather sketchy.

    The University of Evansville is great for students who desire a close connection with their peers, proffessors and campus as a whole. The overall sense of pride and school spirit is extremely strong and valued on campus. Those interested in pursuing social sororities and fraternities may also find this campus appealing as a third of the students are greek.
    Tips for prospective students

    When deciding whether or not a small, private school is right for you it is extremely important to not only tour the campus, but to meet with proffessors in your department who can level with you on what a four year pursuit in their deparment will entail. The campus events such as Road Trip are fantastic for learning what UE is all about as they are all very honest depictions of what is typical on Campus.
    Bang for the buck

    Although the price of the University of Evansville may appear daunting, the office of financial aid is both friendly and helpful for assisting a struggling student in finding a way to finance their academic pursuits. Outside of the beautiful campus and wonderful teaching staff, the school offers several services such as amazing study abroad options, such as the college's very own campus in Grantham, England, as well as career furthing options through the office of Career Services. As a sophmore I have recieved help in creating resumes for interships as well the ability to attend numerous job fairs where I can meet prospective employers and network in the community. The school also offers amazing student events such as Sunset Concert where headliner bands such as Augustana, Secondhand Serenade, and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have played on our very own campus. Although the price may seem limiting the school caters to your interests and provides an incredible amount of quality entertainment options.

    The living arrangements and overall campus feel at the University of Evansville is one aspect that I appreciate immensely. I never have to walk more than ten minutes to get to any class or the library and the campus offers a variety of housing options for people with varying interests and budgets. The sense of community on campus is fantastic and the Resident Assistants and Coordinators in the dorms are both friendly and helpful. The college has recently built several beautiful dorms as well as a large student center with a cafe, convenient store, gift shop and entertainment options. It is a truely wonderful spot for late night study sessions with friends as the center offers lap tops that can be checked out, printing options, and comfortable and clean sitting areas.
    Am learning a lot

    If you are a person who desires to have one on one relationships with proffesors who truely care and want to see you succeed the University of Evansville is truely for you. The staff here is friendly and personable and has not only helped me on a scholastic level but on a personal level as well. Because of the smaller size of the campus, proffessors can afford to set aside large amounts of office time to help you through academic counseling and questions. Of all my friends who are atttending large schools like IU or Purdue I am the only person who can boast having lunch with the head of a department or even recieving emails checking up on my summer interships. The school truely does cater to helping you succeed.

    Any type of student is going to succeed at the University of Evansville. As long as you are willing to put in the effort and hard work, UE will help you get to where you need to go in life.
    Tips for prospective students

    Check out the university early. Take a tour or call an admission counselor. I didn't set foot on campus until Welcome Week, but I ended up falling in love with the campus. Also, apply early. You are given priority for many more scholarship options that way.
    Bang for the buck

    The school isn't cheap, but the programs are extremely personalized. Included in tuition are entry to sporting events, plays, health center services, career services, counseling services, and many other things that students usually pay for at public universities. If you utilize the many services that UE offers, you are going to find the cost isn't a factor. You can also study abroad. Our sister school in England, Harlaxton, has the financial aid given at UE transferred to them, so all you have to pay for is travel and leisure expenses. Also, UE offers great financial aid packets. Most students are offered huge scholarships and find ways to cover the small gap that the university does not cover. In addition, financial aid and student accounts are extremely helpful in finding ways to make ends meet.

    The university offers a lot of opportunities for students to interact (clubs, movie nights, etc.). During Welcome Week, you are a put in groups that are determined by your FYS class. This way, you have a group of friends and that you have at least one class with. Greek Life on campus is amazing! There is practically no animosity between fraternities and sororities. I never thought I would join a fraternity, but UE has totally changed my perspective. I now have a great I have a new family that I can go to for anything and everything. The faculty at UE is extremely helpful and approachable. As a freshman, it can be overwhelming to go so far away from home, but the campus offers you a safety and comfort that I don't think I would have found anywhere else. To be completely honest, I miss UE more now that I am at home.

    The programs at UE are very well qualified. Alumni constantly tell current students how well-prepared they were for their careers and and graduate school programs.

    Excellent! I say this even though I live in the oldest dorm, Hughes Hall. the RA staff, dormmates, and floor events make up for the lack of temperature control. All the other dorm halls have A/C, so it's even better there.

    There are several houses just off campus that have been in the hands of theatre students for decades. As one student graduates another theatre student is invited to move in. They have names like The Crash, Maui, Memphis, Soho, Levy and the Woods. It's like this weird little community within the University. There's also some huge bike race in the city every year that is like a week long party. Senior theater students also will items when they leave to underclassmen.

    Evansville is expensive...over $40 thousand a year but thankfully they have generous scholarships available. My talent scholarship will pay for about half of my expenses. Even at $20 thousand it's still a large amount for my family but I also feel like I'm in one of the best theatre programs in the country.
    What to do for fun

    Without a car it sounds like I'll need to get involved with campus activities to have some fun. I know the theatre department is pretty tight and they have quite the reputation for their interesting parties!

    So far I've been pleasantly surprised with the variety of food choices at Evansville. I am a healthy eater and don't want to put on the Freshman 15. From what I've seen I should be able to make healthy, tasty food choices.

    My summer class had a 95-100 A and a 90-94 A-. Silly? Yes. Especially when an A- is only 3.7 points, not 4. That sums up Academic Rigor.

    Campus has many security towers with blue lights. Anyone can press the red security button and campus police are there within minutes. It is also very well-lit so students can feel safe to travel at night.

    There is one spot on campus that is rather interesting. It's called Echo Point. It is equidistant from the Administration Hall, the Koch Center, and the Schroeder Business Building. When you stand in the center and speak, you can hear yourself from three different directions. It's pretty neat!

    It is a very expensive school because it is a private school. However, the amount of personal attention and opportunities that you receive as a student makes it worth the money. The administration makes the extra effort to give students whatever they may need.

    The University isn't far from downtown Evansville. I personally haven't been there much, but on campus, there are a lot of season-related activities. Ultimate Frisbee is a pretty big event and is a lot of fun to watch and engage in! But the possibilites are almost endless as far the definition of fun is concerned. You can pretty much do anything.

    I absolutely love the food because of the amount of options that you have. The hours are pretty flexible too to work with students who have awkward schedules.

    There are a variety of options as far as dorm life is concerned. Different halls have different advantages and servies. For example, my current dorm hall actually has the biggest laundry room, a small fitness room, and a decently-sized gaming center, so finding out which hall works for you is a lot easier than it may seem.

    This isn't the easiest school to get into, but it definitely is not the hardest. A GPA around 3.5 is good enough to earn a spot, but SAT and/or ACT scores have to be good as well. Taking AP classes is a good way to get in as well.

    Keep your grades up and stay involved. The University has some of the brightest students in the nation, but almost every student is very involved in extracurricular activities. So, stay involved and study hard!

Ask questions, get help from library staff when researching for papers, use the writing center, go to academic advising and be sure you know what classes you need to take.

    Our campus is small and compact with lamps that are constantly on. Walks back from any part of campus are not very long and are always well lit. All of the dorms MUST be accessed by a key and there are locked doors to get into the building, to get into the stairwell, and to open each individual room door, making it difficult for an intruder to enter the building. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable walking back to your dorm, whether it be from on or off campus, you can call campus security and they will either escort you or give you a ride back to your dorm safely as long as you show your student ID. There are emergency blue light posts about campus in the event you are being followed.
    Clubs and Activities

    There is some sort of club and activity for every type of person that may be on campus. If you are interested in being outdoors, there is a venturing crew that takes weekends to go backpacking, caving, horseback riding, canoeing and many other adventures for a very low cost. If you are in love with Harry Potter, you can be a part of the quidditch team. If you are interested in overseas cultures, there are several groups such as I House that invite speakers from different countries to talk about various aspects of their cultures. If you are a Christian there is Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, SCF (a Bible study) and Young Life (where college students go to be mentors in a high school near campus). The second weekend on campus there is an activity fair where all the different organizations on campus set up tables explaining who they are and what they offer.

    Students who are looking into any field related to exercise science, such as physical therapy, nursing, athletic training, or pre-med should look into the University of Evansville. Those who are not afraid of a little hard work, who like the small school feel, and who enjoy being noticed by the professors will like this school. Once you meet someone new on campus you will be able to see them everywhere, making the transition from a well-known high school to an unknown college so much easier.

    There is a water fountain shaped like a ball in the center of campus that provides a beautiful site while reminding the students of the lives lost in 1977 during a plane crash involving our basketball players. This fountain adds a peaceful atmosphere to the campus. Around this fountain are two concrete walls that explain the meaning behind this beautiful fountain.

    The University of Evansville is quite expensive, but it has an extraordinary physical therapy program. There is a cadaver lab that even first semester freshman have the opportunity to experience. The University offers direct entry into this high quality doctoral program to thirty-five students each year. The Movement Lab enables senior students to do in-depth research into the effects that running and other types of movement have on the body. This research then goes on to be nationally recognized. Evansville is expensive, but those who graduate with a degree have the skills to obtain a job even before they graduate from college.
    What to do for fun

    The Residence Life Office and the Resident Assistants put together activities for the students living in their dorms every week or two. Every Thursday night a movie is shown either on an inflatable screen in the center of campus or in Eykamp Hall if the weather is too uncomfortable. Different organizations sponsor activities on the weekend such as fashion shows, talent shows, choral concerts, international bizarres (where ethnic food can be sampled from around the world), rollerblading, etc.. Off campus there are an ice-skating rink, several movie theaters, a zoo, and a large indoor rock climbing facility where people go on the weekends. Of course there are also parties, but most people partake in other fun activities that do not involve the raising of your blood alcohol level.

    Due to the University of Evansville's small size, the options for food are limited in comparison to what can be found on larger campuses, but there is always a variety of food for everyone. Within the main food court there are several different kinds of food that can qualify as a meal on the meal plan. One section provides more home-style cooking, another pasta, burgers, wraps, smoothies, a variety of soups, salads, and a stir-fry section that several times a week will prepare a food of different ethnicity. There is also an on-campus convenience store that provides meals after the main food court has closed, including hot wings, nachos, and pizza. Meal plans come with flex dollars that can either be spent at the convenience store on campus or at Papa Johns down the street if nothing in the food court is appealing. The food provided on Sunday evenings for dinner is usually not as good as the food during the week, so most students either use their flex dollars or go to an inexpensive restaurant down the street from campus.
    Dorm Life

    The classic-style dorms, with two students to each room, a hall of same gender students, and two bathrooms per hall are actually quite nice as long as people are willing to compromise on smaller matters with their roomates. The classic dorms provide excellent opportunities to get to know other students in the hallways or study rooms. Our classic dorms have a piano, several large TVs, sitting areas, and game tables for the students of the dorm to enjoy when not studying. Residence Life also provides those who are living in dorms with activities that the floors and dorms can do together to get to know each other such as Just Dance, crafts, nail painting, video games, and massages. There are also apartment-type dorms for the upperclassmen. These come with a kitchen, living room, and bedroom for each student. In addition, houses available for those students who are interested in that type of living arrangement.
    Academic Rigor

    The University of Evansville's classes are challenging while preparing you well for graduate school or a career. All classes are taught by professors; teaching assistants are there only to assist the teachers in grading and lab preparation. If you attend the University of Evansville you will always have a teacher with a PhD degree leading the classroom. For the general education classes, you need to read the book in addition to attending all the lectures from the professor. Simply listening to lectures and taking notes will not lead to an A in the class. Classes that count toward your major require more work, effort and studying outside of the classroom in order to fully understand the material and get an excellent grade. On average, I spend one hour a day per general education class and two to three hours a day on my major specific classes. As long as one does not procrastinate, these challenging classes are very doable and students can easily transition from high school to college, with only a few late study nights.
    Tips for prospective students

    When you visit the campus, stop students and ask them what they think of the college, because they are not being paid by the Admissions Office and will give you their honest opinion. Also, sit in on some classes to see if the teacher's teaching style and classroom atmosphere is one that you would be able to learn well in.

The classes are difficult and lead by excellent professors who know your name by the second week of class and are willing to help you in whatever way they can.     Campus feels very safe and is well-lit but just have common sense. It's not smart to be walking around anywhere alone late at night.

    Sororities and fraternities are present on campus, host events for their philanthropies. Fraternities have houses off campus while there are no houses for the sororities.

    Clubs related to your major, religious-affiliated groups, intramurals are very popular on campus, and other groups are available for a wide variety of interests (ex. Venturing Crew).

    Sticker price is expensive (~$40K/year) but scholarships are generous and the Big Freeze (no changes in tuition for current and incoming 2013 freshmen) are a big help. Work-study as well as a few other on campus jobs are available.

    SAB (Student Activities Board) usually has an event as least once a week for students. Events in the past have included brining a comedian to campus, movie nights, and special event nights just for freshmen. There are minor league hockey and baseball teams locally. Mall, movie theater, and most stores you could need are about 10-15 minute drive from campus.
    Food and Dining

    Ridgway is the only place to eat on campus besides Jazzman's (Starbucks spinoff) and Ace's Place (expensive convenience store on campus). Food is generally decent, but nothing amazing and you will get tired of it sooner or later. There are plenty of options about 10-15 minutes down the Lloyd.
    Dorm Life

    Most dorms are better than the stereotypical dorm. Most are set up with 18-20 students per public bathroom. Village and suite options are also available as you have more credit hours.
    Academic Rigor

    Courses are challenging but most professors are willing to help and there are several other resources on campus. Fellow students all have a like mindset about studying and forming study groups which is very supportive.

    While the school rips you off in regards to food, books, and similar expenses, they also really provide a great environment with excellent professors and free resources that will lead to success.
    What to do for fun

    The things to do for fun is dependent on how often you go off campus. On campus, they arrange events every now and then, or the greek life community will hold an event. They have movies every Thursday. There are plenty of places to play pool or something similar. You can always check out games or equipment for Frisbee or four square or something. Also, clubs and organizations have fun, if it's something you're interested in. If you go off campus, there are a lot of opportunities, such as parks, the mall, museums, the zoo, and movies.
    Food and Dining

    The food is really not all that great, especially if you're a vegetarian. You can get by, and you can eat healthy if you try and pay attention. It does get a bit old though. Breakfast is the best meal offered. Also, they're way overpriced, but if you have flex and go to Ace's place, it's a quick fix.
    Dorm Life

    I live in Powell, the honors dorm, which I really enjoy overall. We have a lounge with free printing and a game room. It's quiet during the day, which is nice for studying (not the case in some other halls). The downfalls: There's a radio in the bathroom, and people blast it a lot, usually at night. The desk chairs provided are the most uncomfortable things in the world, so I recommend bringing your own. Also, a lot of furniture is outdated/old. And the printers break down a lot. I can't speak much for the other halls, but it's a general consensus that the showers kind of suck.
    Academic Rigor

    Classes are tough, and your professors expect you to study. You need to stay on top of your course work, which at times can be tough. It's not impossible though, in fact, if you study and do your homework, you'll be fine. Professors are always willing to help, but they need to see you're trying. That said, some classes will be much easier than others and some professors with be tougher than others. Figure out what kind of class it is early on so you can plan for success.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved! Join the usual clubs and activities you're interested in for fun, but also get involved in your department and get to know your professors. It's what you make of it; if you stay cooped up in your dorm room and only leave for class, you'll never grow and learn what's available to you.

    Greek life is a big part of campus life at UE. A lot of the students who are not involved in athletics or the theatre program choose to take part in Greek Life. From what I have heard, Greek Life at UE makes your college years much more enjoyable!

    Unlike most universities, the University of Evansville is very strict on the portions and what counts as a meal. For example, at lunch one can only can an entree and two sides (a drink counts as a side). Most other schools allow students to swipe in and get whatever they want. At dinner, you are allowed one entree and three sides (including a drink). Some of our athletes have to use two meals at a time just to assure that they are getting enough to eat.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms present a great sense of community and allow people to become familiar with others outside of their groups.
    Academic Rigor

    I would give University of Evansville five stars for the amount of challenging course work it has to offer. The students that attend UE are truly some of the brightest students in the country and UE classes present challenges to every student.

    My advice to prospective students would be to make sure that it is absolutely the right fit for you. Since the school is so small, your group is established by your involvement in campus activities. So, get involved!

    A local Subway has gotten robbed three times in my two years and has ordered the campus to be on lock down. Nothing major though. Campus security is great and you can call them up any time at all and they will respond, pretty awesome.
