    Textbooks are a little steeply priced, but that's what Amazon is for. Just be sure you order your textbooks far enough in advance to give them time to ship over to the island. In state tuition is the cheapest I've ever seen, and out of state tuition isn't much worse. Also, UH Hilo offers a number of scholarships, and federal work study positions to students taking at least 6 credits.

    Tuition is much cheaper than most public universities and the classes are smaller. It's like paying public school tuition for a private school education.

    From fees, the university provides a lot of perks. There are discount plays, privilege to the new student life center and pool, and access to many student activities.

    It's a good school, but they can be rather unorganized. They do seem to give good financial aid if you qualify. But everyone here is pretty nice so that's a big plus.
