Great for these types of students

Outgoing, intelligent students who enjoy watching collegiate athletics.

    Tips for prospective students

Be Involved! There are so many opportunities to get involved with one of the many organiztions on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Although, rather pricey for out of state tuition (in state tuition is not bad) it is a great institution to obtain an education. Health Care visits are included in tuition and you can make an appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner free of charge, with medication costing little to nothing. The campus was recently named fourth safest campus nationwide. The college of Pharmacy is ranked fifth nationwide and those are only a few of the 80 or so national rankings.

    Will enjoy being here

The campus life is not dull even during summer the campus is still buzzing with energy. The students are welcoming and very friendly. Varsity Division I sports are all well attended and the Men's Basketball team has a tradition of excellence, not to mention a very loyal fan base. Decide for yourself there are youtube videos of a Flash Rave that took place in the library.

    Will learn a lot

When President Todd accepted the role as University President, he brought with him the Top 20 business plan meaning, thus, that the university will be a in the top 20 by the year 2020. Therefore, the University of Kentucky is making progress to become on of the top 20 schools in the nation. The William T. Young Library, a 58 million dollar complex, has the nation's second largest book endowment second only to Harvard University and is the largest among Public Universities. Also, on a side note the fifth floor was voted the best place on campus to get a date.

Great for these types of students

UK is a great school for any types of students! It's so diverse, it would be hard not to fit in somewhere!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack off during senior year! Schools still look at those transcripts! Also, GET EXCITED! You're going into your first year of college! It can be scary going to a big school at first, but K Crew holds tons of activities for you to meet new people and try new things.

    Bang for the buck

Ohio's tuition is expensive, and it is almost cheaper for me to attend out-of-state at Kentucky as it is for me to go to school in Ohio.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to school at UK. For me, it's just far enough away from home, but still close enough that going home is easy when I want to. Also, there are tons of organizations to get involved in, so I'm always keeping busy with something!

    Am learning a lot

Even though UK is a pretty big school, they make it more like a small school by keeping many classes with a low student to teacher ratio, so you receive more one on one time with your instructor, which makes it easier to grasp the bigger concepts and master the small ones.

Great for these types of students

Anybody! UK is VERY diverse and offers opportunity for any kind of student.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely live on campus for at LEAST one year. It's awesome! Apply early for housing though... or you wont get your assignment until late summer and you definitely wont get the dorm you want. GET INVOLVED! There are so many opportunities to do this, don't worry. Take advantage of resources like The Study (free tutoring), W.T. Young Library, and the Johnson Center (AMAZING physical fitness facility). Also... don't buy a weak umbrella... it will be destroyed by the Patterson Office Tower Wind Tunnel in seconds! haha

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive... period. It's not that UK has an outrageous price. It's actually significantly cheaper than most colleges. The only thing I was disappointed about was that in order to get any of the scholarships offered by the college, you have to get a 26 on your ACT. If you don't, you have to rely on other forms of scholarship money.

    Am enjoying being here

There is ALWAYS something to do at UK. There are so many clubs and organizations that you can get involved in. If you have an interest in something, UK most likely has a club for it. I would also highly recommend living on campus. It's so much fun and it's an easy way to make new friends and stay involved. Sports are also a big deal here. UK has a very passionate fan base.

    Am learning a lot

I've only been here for one semester and I've already learned SO much. The professors I have are quality professors that care about their students. Even though the university is of an exceptionally large size, the classes are an average size of 25 students so you can still get one on one with your teacher. There are also tons of resources for learning, including the W.T. Young Library which happens to be gigantic. If you need a quiet place to study, you are guaranteed to find it at the Willy T.

Great for these types of students

I would say that UK is great all types of students. If you like the small town type of feel UK can offer that to you, but if you're used to the big city feel UK can offer that to you as well :)

    Tips for prospective students

I would tell anyone thinking about coming here to take a few test trials of your schedule once you figure it out, because if you don't, on the first day you will be late to EVERY class :)

    Bang for the buck

UK is worth every penny they footed out of pocket for me to come here. I am very happy with my decision of school.

    Am enjoying being here

I am having fun! Every weekend there is so much to indulge in that making a decision on exactly what to do is very hard. I met new friends (my roommates), and honestly the campus is so big that if I didn't want to see someone, I dont have to see them.

    Am learning a lot

Everyday that I go to class I am grateful and I feel as if my time was spent in a more efficient way. I listens to my profesor as he/she explains the material, and surely my mind is being stretched, and the way that I look at the world is completely changed. Overall the education is amazing!

The University of Kentucky is a great school to attend. You learn a lot in every class you have, even those easy classes that you use just to get your GPA up. Its so easy to get involved on campus, there's a club, activity, sport, or inter mural for everyone! Also, whenever you need help with a class, you're sure to find it at the Study or even one of the other learning centers on campus, the professors are also willing to help which is nice. Dorm life is never boring. There's always something going on. Another great way to get involved would be a sorority or frat. I'm really happy with my decision to attend such a great, well established university!

Great for these types of students

UK is great for anyone, really. There are so many areas of study offered and extremely diverse. Whether you are experimenting with where you want your future to go or you know exaclty who and what you're going to be, UK can help you. UK is so eclectic that I can't say it's for anyone specific- expect for those looking to start their future today!

    Tips for prospective students

Live on south campus!! That is where just about everything is at. Also- be involved in whatever way suits you. There are so many opportunities and organizations (sororities, fraternities, clubs, intramurals, jobs, study groups, religious groups, and more!). Don't be afraid to do anything, everyone is friendly (seriously!). Especially as a freshman, everyone is in the same boat and everyone pretty much understands that. College is like a second chance, especially at UK.

    Bang for the buck

UK could offer more scholarships, but being a public school I understand. I also wish that so many jobs on campus weren't just for those that qualify for financial aid. Overall, it's decent. The hidden fees are the worst- but what school doesn't have those?

    Am enjoying being here

There is ALWAYS something to do on campus if you're open to it. There are so many ways to interact with the univserity and the city of Lexington. Though Lexington is a little small for my liking, it's a nice city. You don't need a car (definitely a money saver!), and when you do, there are so many ways that UK helps you get around. The school pride is the best and that's what really makes UK so enjoyable. For example, when UK beat North Carolina to proceed into the Final Four (2011), just about the entire south campus (the main dorms for freshman) rushed outside in 37 degree weather to celebrate together. Being a part of UK is just such an extraordinary experience!

    Am learning a lot

There are a lot of things that I am learning in every class! Some people think that the larger class sizes are not beneficial- but I disagree. Everyone has something to contribute to the class, and my larger classes are what teach me the most. If you're open to others' opinions, you will learn something new everyday. Often when I sit down for lunch, at least one person has something interesting that they learned about in class recently that starts a discussion among the table. What makes the learning experience even better at UK is that the teachers are currently researching their field, meaning the students learn the most up-to-date material. It also helps the students to keep up with current events. Overall, I really like the way my learning experience is going!

    Campus Safety

we have go carts that people drive that will literally take you anywhere on campus not matter what time of day or night just so they can make sure you get back safely! and we have a cat path which is a path that is safest to travel if you are walking alone at night and want to stay safeā€¦ just follow the paw prints (:

    Greek Life

stay away! they are nothing but trouble! seriously!

    Clubs and Activities

    so many choices!!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

do not walk through pot office tower during finals (you will be cursed) but luckily you can go rub the statue's nose in front of pot to be safe (:

    Bang for the buck

attitude is really everything. i promise you with the right attitude and initiative any place you go will be awesome (:

    What to do for fun

theres so much to do. you don't have to be the idiot that goes out getting drunk and doing drugs & end up in the hospital (true story bro); there is seriously everything! if your a christian like me i recommend csf for extroverts or cru for introverts or if you believe in paranormals there a club for that too i promise (: and downtown lex is just a great place the discover different restaurants, movie places, ice skate and (fall a thousand times like me) basically you can make it as fun or as chill as you want it.

    Food and Dining

excellent food! everything from greasy goodness to super delicious salads. my favorite would have to be the chicken vinaigrette salad!!! but the food choices here rock your socks!

    Dorm Life

if you are going to live in the dorms, i truly suggest south campus! it's where everything happens; you meet and greet and have fun, not to mention the gym is right across the street (:

    Academic Rigor

college in general is a challenge, but this uk has standards that they keep; the classes are challenging but no class is not worth it. the amount of knowledge you can obtain in one semester almost blew me away.

    Tips for prospective students

come with an ambitious and outgoing attitudes! the ambition will help you survive classes and being outgoing with help you make friends who will be there for you!

    In three sentences

my school, although huge, makes you feel like your at a small school with professors who actually care for your academics; my school works very hard to make sure that we the students are getting the help we need no matter what subject in school or what problems in life, there's always help. importantly, this school works hard to get you involved so that you can make friends and just be connected!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety depends on the day. There's something called Safe Cats, that is suppose to pick you up late at night if you're afraid to walk through campus and take you to your desired destination on campus. However, sometimes they'll tell you they're coming and they won't ever show. Also campus police are sketchy. Some days they're helpful, most days they don't care.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The annual panty run is always a blast.

    Bang for the buck

The price of the school is probably considered to be average. It sucks that tuition rises almost every year here. But it's college...

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do for fun around campus, especially the beginning of each semester. Tons of activities and organizations to join, there really is something for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember that your education is solely in your own hands. No one is forcing you to go to school or pushing you. Technically you don't even learn unless you want to.

    In three sentences

Tuition rises too much. A bit of racism on campus. Overall a 6 out of 10.

Great for these types of students

Fun, energetic, those who love sports: especially basketball, those who like to attend social events.

    Tips for prospective students

In order to be happy at UK, I would suggest that you get involved some way. You could join a sorority or fraternity, or join one of the hundreds of student organizations. Attend events on campus that interest you because you have a chance to meet others and get a sense of community.

    Bang for the buck

UK can be pricey if you are from out of state, but the education you receive is definitely worth the price you pay.

    Am enjoying being here

If you like high energy, fun, and exciting atmosphere UK is a great option. There are always events on campus from sporting to others. There seems to never be a dull moment on campus. Although there are thousands of people on campus it gives you more opportunities to meet many people from different backgrounds.

    Am learning a lot

The great thing about UK is that you have the same opportunity to learn a lot whether you are in a large lecture hall or a small classroom setting. Most of the professors actually care and are available for help in office hours and want you to succeed.

Great for these types of students

Sports fans will love the basketball tradition at UK and the sense of community. Any type of person can find his or her niche at UK because the student body is incredibly diverse.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There are so many opportunities on UK's huge campus. Find a student organization, make friends, volunteer, and get connected in Lexington.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition increases have been hard on many people, but education everywhere is expensive. UK has a lot of resources to offer, including multiple libraries, career and job assistance, and on-campus housing options.

    Am enjoying being here

UK has something to offer for everyone. There are probably hundreds of different student organizations that fit any type of interest. The campus is beautiful, though too big to conveniently travel across campus in a reasonable amount of time. I love the sense of community after a big basketball win. And there's always something happening on campus, so you never have to be bored.

    Am learning a lot

Many of the general education requirements turn out to be boring and remedial, rehashing information most students would learn in high school. However, classes geared specifically for your intended major or program are very useful, especially in my own particular case. I definitely feel like I'm getting a good education from professors who know what they're talking about in the College of Health Sciences.

Great for these types of students

    Students with good work ethic.

    Tips for prospective students

School before social life, watch those Thursday nights. Live on campus your first semester, preferably on South Campus because that's where most freshmen reside. Check out the organizations on campus, and be sure to get involved.

    Bang for the buck

Meter-maids are everywhere just looking to give people traffic tickets for parking without permits. Tuition isn't bad though. Most of my financial pain has been from bookstores and 3rd party places around Lexington.

    Am enjoying being here

I've never had a better experience in my life than the time I am having at UK. My friends made here are the best friends I've ever had, and I have something fun to do every day of the week.

    Am learning a lot

College is what you make of it. The teachers are available to help inside and outside the classroom, and there are many on campus places for free tutoring.

Great for these types of students

It's great for everyone! There is a club for every interest, so making friends and finding a place to belong is very easy. The teachers will test and ask for your best, but they know that everyone is different and have different styles, so everyone feels like they can do their best.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't sweat the small stuff. I know I freaked out, and sometimes having a minor melt down can help you get some emotions out, but truly do not worry over things that you have no control over. Don't be afraid to speak to your teachers or TAs, or if you live in the dorms, RAs. They are all very helpful and open to taking questions and giving wonderful advice and tips for getting through the hard times. Also, and I know this is going to seem obvious, don't slack or procrastinate. It can truly hurt your grade if your teacher sees you didn't put enough hard work into a paper or project, and it can hurt yourself when you are freaking out about something you need to study for and have no time.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that I am getting what we're paying for. I am getting a well-rounded and wonderful education, I enjoy living in the dorms and being with people, and, as I've said before, the teachers are great.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. I live in the dorms and have made several new friends on my floor because everyone is so open to get to know each other. I have enjoyed my classes and getting to know the people and teachers. I have had a wonderful time and cannot wait to continue my education here.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are wonderful. They are always willing to speak with you outside of class and are extremely willing to help you with any problems you may have. All the teachers I had this semester were very open to questions and opinions and it was obvious they enjoyed teaching.

Great for these types of students

hard- working motivated career cantered spirited ready for challenges!!!

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest not to take the application process as a joke. Even though there are so much opportunities and resources that this University has to offer, there is a constant race to actually achieve all this. Your classmates are racing with you, and if you underestimate your friends then that's the biggest mistake you'll regret in your life. take your senior year seriously because I have been in your shoes, and I can now assure you that your senior year is the best year of your school life, but with that there comes responsibilities such as submitting college and scholarship essays on time, considering your financial options, keeping your GPA high, and many more. But in the end just remember by being punctual and honest you can get in this university with less stress. Work hard, take your life a little seriously, and all is well.

    Bang for the buck

If you are smart and capable, then money is not the problem when choosing the right choice for you. Being a middle class girl, I have always reconsider my dreams and my options. When I thought of UK, it all just seemed so easy and less stressful. Now as a Freshman, I feel like the university gives so many opportunities from on campus jobs to excel your strengths as a tutor or TA to carry a research in some chemistry or engineering laboratory. People like me who have less financial support from their families, grab these opportunities. The university offers so much that it seems like nothing is impossible here.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus has its own blend with the history of Kentucky and the modern technology. Everywhere you can see people carrying a varying conversations from dorm chit chats to some molecular undergraduate research. The campus holds many dining places spread out through the campus, sororities and Frat houses blending in the laboratories and mining buildings , libraries for each department and the head of all libraries - the willy T. As a student it's really easy to do a late night preparation for tests in one of the cubicle with your own table and own light. It just makes you feel like you have one private room in one big house full of people just like you. You can ask help to your neighbor who might be studying the same material or may have gone through your stress. Importantly, the sports spirit at UK is undoubtedly outrageous. From a Freshman to a graduate to a bio professor, everyone is equally spirited for UK teams. We take our athletes seriously, and cheer them when they are down or beating our enemy state teams. At UK the sports festive goes on from Football in fall to Basketball in winter to soccer to tennis to swimming, and the cycle keeps cycling with even brighter faces and spirited faculty.

    Am learning a lot

Th professors are extremely helpful, and they make the resources available to all the students in a more reliable and easier way. The material taught to a Freshman is challenging, and while some students don't take the challenge, I would rather thank for the core curriculum to be this challenging at the university of Kentucky for setting the standards this high to better prepare students like me for future professional schools.

    Campus Safety

Obviously not too good this year since there have been so many armed robberies, drugging at frat parties, and someone that stabs peoples feet in the libraries.

    Greek Life

Too much in it. Instead of being heavily focused on academics, all I here in my classes are guess who got drunk last weekend?! Its the most annoying thing. Also, if you like individuality DONT come here. Everyone dresses the same and if you arent in a sorority or frat, you will be looked down upon.

    Clubs and Activities

Im in a service fraternity (coed) here on campus and I love it. Its the only thing that makes this school enjoyable for me.

Great for these types of students

If you are a sorority girl who is just trying to find your husband at college this is a great school for you!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    None?

    Bang for the buck

Dont waste your money. This school is extremely cheap and will get you on everything. For instance, Im really sick of having to pay to use the library (in parking fees), and getting tickets everywhere I go. I refuse to buy the parking passes because they range from 150-300 a year. I dont understand why parking passes arent included in my 30000+ tuition like most schools. Not to mention the fact that UK is doing an amazing job of tearing down every parking lot in existence for their new dorms. And guess where they are getting money for that (because this school is in serious debt)? From our rising tuition prices!

    What to do for fun

Um really nothing. Unless you get wrapped up into the sorority life and want to attend frat parties every weekend, or unless you are 21 there really isnt much to do. I would say going to Keeneland would pretty much be it.

    Food and Dining

Like any cafeteria, its just okay.

    Dorm Life

I stayed in the dorm freshman year and it was the best decision. now they are putting up many new dorms and unfortunately taking all the parking lots with it however I recommend, as an out of state student, to live in the dorm. Walking everywhere helps you get to know the area better and introduces you to new people.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are okay. Compared to what my high school taught me I felt very prepared for this college and while the science department has terrible teachers and I feel unprepared for graduate school, they do pretty well in other departments.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely try to stay a weekend here before you fully commit. There is a different feeling of actually staying on campus, rather than taking a tour and you would be surprise at how much you learn when you actually stay for a couple days and get a sense of the people and the area.

    In three sentences

This school is a waste of money. There are much better colleges that I could have chosen from in Ohio.

Great for these types of students

I believe that the University of Kentucky is great for any type of student. The campus is large and diverse in so many ways. Any type of student is sure to enjoy this journey.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in things to build connections with others, so that you enjoy this experience as much as possible. Never be afraid to ask questions because at some point in time we were in your shoes. Make friends and hang with people other than yourself. Also go to your teachers office hours and make yourself known, you never know when you will need a recommendation letter. Work before play do all homework, and extra credit. And last but not least remember why you came to college, don't lose sight of your goals.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at the University of Kentucky can be pricey for many but it is definitely worth the big bucks. So many resources are provided on and off campus. These include tutoring at both the study, which focuses on math and language and the writing center, which helps with the English subject, and the Johnson Center(gym). The university also provides a health clinic for days that you may not be feeling well, campus shuttles and the huge Young library.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. It has been a 24/7 adventure that I wouldn't change to be at any other school. There are so many events that happen daily.

    Am learning a lot

Although the University of Kentucky is a large school, I have been helped in so many ways that I couldn't learn in a small classroom setting. Through the university free tutoring is provided in all subjects and professors and teaching assistants are always willing to meet and help get a better understanding. Being at the University of Kentucky has not only taught me things pertaining to my major but so many life lessons.

The University of Kentucky has a lot of great events on campus. UK has a fall and spring concert that brings great artist like BOB and Drake to perform just for our school. They also have cheap seats where you go and watch a new movie for a dollar and they usually have free snacks. If you want to see more campus events that UK offers go to the SAB website.

    Am learning a lot

You will learn a lot at the University of Kentucky. But you should know that it is not easy. You have to work hard and you don 't have time to party. If you study and do all of your assignments, you should be fine, but if you need help they do have a tutor center that is free.

    Campus Safety

I've never felt scared to walk on campus alone a night. The pathways are pretty well lit. I've gotten emails alerting me that there was an attack, but nothing too serious.

    Greek Life

It seems like campus is full of greeks. If you come from the north you might be shocked at how seriously UK takes the greek system.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a great variety of clubs on campus to fit anyone's interests. Some clubs are more successful than others. It's also really easy to start a new club.

Great for these types of students

UK is great for any type of student. No matter if you're outgoing or shy it's easy to fit in at UK.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I've always heard that you're supposed to rub the foot of Patterson in from of the Patterson Office Tower for good luck on exams. However, I've never actually seen anyone do it.

    Bang for the buck

The price of tuition isn't bad, but the price for housing is ridiculous. It's easy to find an apartment with a 9 or 12 month lease cheaper than two semesters on campus. Not only is it expensive, but UK doesn't offer a lot of scholarship money unless you really stand out.

    What to do for fun

Campus has a lot to offer from ping pong tournaments to free movies. Almost any night of the week there is a UK sponsored event (which is typically free) where you and a group of friends can go and have a good time. Whether it's free pancakes on Friday nights at CSF or Comedy Caravan on Wednesdays at the Cats Den, there is always something for you to do. Not only is there a lot to do on campus, but there is a lot to do in Lexington. There are plenty of shopping centers, restaurants, parks, etc. to keep you busy all year.

    Food and Dining

The food at UK is actually pretty decent. My favorite dining hall is Ovid's. There is a great variety and it's cooked on the spot for you. The student center has a nice variety of food for lunch. The only thing I'd do differently is I'd have more places where students can use their meal swipes.

    Dorm Life

My view on dorm life might be a little biased because I lived in a suite since moving to campus. The suites are really nice and friendly. However, I've also been older dorms where I would probably hate to live. The locations of the dorms aren't in the greatest locations either. Most of campus housing is a 10-15 minute walk from classes. That doesn't seem too bad unless your classes are spread out or you want to meet a friend who lives on the opposite side of campus. You end up spending a lot of time walking to whatever it is you have to do.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the core classes can be seen as easy. Just like any university, UK offers a challenge once reaching upper division courses. Once reaching upper division courses it is expected that you know the material more so than in core classes. Obviously, not everyone is interested in core classes. However, the classes help you become a well-rounded person with knowledge in several different areas.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus for at least one year. It's the easiest way to meet people and get involved. Plus, you don't have to cook.

    In three sentences

The university is full of opportunity no matter which field you go into. There are a lot of knowledgeable professors who really want to see you succeed. Within the first week of coming to UK you'll know you made the right decision.

Great for these types of students

Great for students wanting careers in the medical field or in agriculture, especially for equine majors, there is no place in the world with more opportunities to work with and be around horses.

    Tips for prospective students

Prepare to work hard in your classes, but also prepare to have some of the most fun of your life, with great SEC sports, horse racing, and a city all on your door step.

    Bang for the buck

For in-state students this college is a must! The level of education for the price is irrefutable compared to other colleges.

    Am enjoying being here

Between all the collegiate sports and the city lifestyle of Lexington there is always something to do either on campus or off of it.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors here are very friendly, and willing to help those who seek it. Some classes are very large, but the teachers make it very easy to talk with them after and outside of class.

Great for these types of students

The University of Kentucky is a great place for people that want to learn, and it is also a great place for people that enjoy getting involved, there is a wide variety of things that one could get involved in. Also, it is a great school for those college basketball fanatics, I see a basketball player on basketball team walking around at least once a day.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved on campus because it is a great place to start if you do not know anyone. Also, live on campus your first year, because it helps you establish connections with people that you would have never been connected with. Also, think ahead of what you want your major to be because you do not want to waste time in classes that are useless to your degree unless it is something that you are really passionate about.

    Bang for the buck

Most definitely! The University has everything a student would need. A huge library that I find very useful during study time. A nice gym, great educators, everything one could ask for in a college experience. They give away tons of stuff as well. I would say I accumulated nearly 20 shirts during my first couple of weeks of school. They also give away things all of the time, a friend of mine won a free GPS!

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. The campus is beautiful. The residence hall that I live in is very close to most all of the building, which is very convenient. There is a variety of people here that you can become lifelong friends with. There are also several activities people can join!

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much since I have started attending the University of Kentucky. They have very helpful services for the freshman class. One of these services is UK101, which is a class that one can take to learn about the various things that University of Kentucky offers. I found my most challenging classes fun and worth taking. I have yet to come across a wasteful class here!

Great for these types of students

Outgoing, bold people who aren't afraid to meet new people and attend office hours. Morally the culture is pretty heavy on the drinking but new groups on campus are getting people away from that and offering sober activities. Also, students that love sports will be right at home since we have great basketball, football, oh and the best part of Lexington, Keeneland Horse Track.

    Tips for prospective students

Sit in the first few rows, it makes the huge classes feel small. Live in the dorms the first year, it helps you get in the college mindset. Go Greek or get in a club that is comprehensive like Christian Student Fellowship or a club sport. This is again another great way to make a huge school feel manageable. Also, it helps make the social scene feel more intimate. The study abroad office is great here, so try to build time to use that resource. Willy T library is great if you want to socialize, but to get real work done I suggest going to one of the other libraries on campus...there are a ton.

    Bang for the buck

Not much to say here...in state tuition for 8 grand. Also, don't forget about Kees scholarships. All and all awesome price for a college degree.

    Am enjoying being here

UK is great during the warmer fall and spring months. Can get a bit drab during the winter. The weather can make this place great or horrible. Being greek is a huge help as it makes the huge student body feel small. Classes are pretty large but if you are assertive and sit in the front, they feel much smaller. Wish the social scene was a bit more inclusive, and the cops here are really harsh so house parties have been on the decline. The Johnson Center and the aquatic center are amazing. I have yet to find a better gym...anywhere. Also, they have tons of fitness classes that cater to any level.

    Am learning a lot

The science classes here at UK are very comprehensive. I am was Pre-med for my first two years and continued my Bio minor. These classes test your ability for time management and academic rigor. The teachers are usually very willing to meet outside of office hours and most truly want you to excel. The humanities I've found are pretty easy and well boring compared to the fast pace of the science classes. To help this I enrolled in the Honors program which encourages more rigour in the humanities. The free peer tutoring program called the study is a great resource for the science classes giving you trouble, it is packed when homework is due.

UK has separate colleges for just about everything. There's a list of available majors on their website, so check it out!

    Tips for prospective students

Go visit the campus before you make your final decision. Also, apply for housing and parking permits as early as possible.

    Bang for the buck

It isn't cheap to go to school here, but it's worth it. There are also lots of grants and scholarships that the university provides based on ACT scores and other academic or sports related achievements.

Dedicated students who have pride in the school and enjoy cheering on various athletic teams

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED. Like any campus, or new place, if you don't know anyone it's hard to enjoy your time there. Marching band is an awesome opportunity to get to know people and get into games free! You also gt he opportunity in the winter to go to bball games!!! Greek life is pretty big, but there are also a million other activities put on by a million different organizations. It's not hard to find something to do, but you have to put yourself out there and get involved.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state tuition sucks. period. but, if you work hard in high school and study for the ACT and SAT, you get some good scholarships. Also, once you get here and settle into a particular college, there are more opportunities for bigger scholarships. There is soooooooooo much to do here on campus and so much is offered to you like free personal trainers from the fittness center to free medical appointments if you're sick and of course, so much food it'll make your head spin. I say free b/c you pay for in tuition but it's so worth it!

    Am enjoying being here

I wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the world.

    Am learning a lot

I'm a nursing major, so all of my classes are sciences and I love it!! It's amazing how the disjointed information from high school intertwines with college information and everything starts making sense. The class sizes are really good, I only have three large lecture classes but the profs still keep up discussions, ask involving questions, and keep you awake :)

    Campus Safety

The VIP center assists in any violence prevention on campus or in your life. TaxiCATS provides late night taxi services to students who live off campus at a discounted price. There are also emergency phones located all over campus as well as a system called UK Alert which details any crimes that have happened in the campus's vicinity. Police escorts can also be called to walk you to/from your dorm during the nights.

    What to do for fun

    Campus Safety

this campus is pretty safe as far as i know. the campus itself is very well lit at night, and the university uses a campus alert system to call, text and email students in the event that anything does happen such as a burglary or weather emergency. just be safe. don't go out late at night by yourself, and don't party too hard. uk isn't very good at salting campus though during the winter, so if it ever gets below freezing the sidewalks aren't too safe, but other than that uk is a very safe campus.

    Greek Life

one of the easiest ways to get involved is to participate in greek life. the first time i heard this i thought, oh sure, you are only saying that because you're in it, but then i joined and it exceeded any expectations. firstly, you meet so so so many people, and bond with so many people that really will be your friends for a lifetime. you aren't buying friends, you are belonging to an organization that fosters friendship. the greek world at uk is so very involved too - there are so many events greek wide that involve all sororities and fraternities that it would be impossible to name them all here. google the panhellenic organization for yourself and see. the greek community does so much more than just with themselves too. they have a lot to do with giving back to the community and to uk's campus. ignore the stereotypes and see for yourself!

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs and activities for you to get involved in. anything you are passionate about you can continue to be involved with at uk. even if you never thought you would enjoy it, you may try something here and stick with it for life. attend the student involvement fair during k-week and check out all the clubs. take flyers and join the email list for twenty, attend ten at least once, and it is certain that you will find two or three you really like. also take khp courses for fun and exercise - you can try things like scuba diving and ballroom dancing, even if you've had zero experience before.

Great for these types of students

great for the students who like to be involved in a variety of activities, for students who like to feel a part of a greater student body, and for students looking for tradition. very great for students who are into athletics - you won't find a better team than the kentucky wildcats! basketball is big here, and students take it seriously. :)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

during finals week, it is said that rubbing the foot of the patterson statue next to the patterson office tower will bring you luck. you can't graduate without trying a spicy beef wrap from ovids, and winter always means sledding down the bowl in front of the library.

    Bang for the buck

tuition is a bit steep but it is a public university so not nearly as high as a private college. being in state helps. if you live in kentucky you can use your kees money too, which helps out tremendously! other ways to save money day to day: with your meal plan you get flex dollars. you can use these to buy cereal at the two corner stores on campus, but because those things are so overpriced, you are better off just buying those things at kroger if you can make a trip and using your flex dollars for other things. for example, starbucks takes flex dollars, so if you're an avid starbucks user, you are better off using your flex dollars for that because you can get other things cheaper elsewhere. always carry your student id with you, it will get you discounts at numerous places. fazoli's on north campus gives a discount to students. always always compare prices of textbooks from amazon.com to the bookstores - you really do not need a brand new textbook, so buy it used if you find one. and cheap seats through the student activities board shows movies for $1, so plan on catching ones you didn't see there on the big screen with free popcorn.

    What to do for fun

there is an almost infinite amount of things you can do for fun at uk. things that are high in tradition and also tons of fun include attending basketball games, going to keeneland meets, and participating in the little kentucky derby, the weekend before derby festival in which there is a hot air balloon race and balloon glow. if you volunteer you can even help blow up a hot air balloon. basketball games are beyond fun, especially if you get tickets in the erupption zone. uk also hosts the world's largest water balloon fight, so watch for flyers about that. the key to having fun at uk is getting involved. with your dorm, a sorority or fraternity, the student activities board, or a religious organization, any way you do it stay involved and meet people.

    Food and Dining

if you live in a dorm you will get a meal plan, which have changed a lot since i lived in the dorms, so i can't really comment on that; just use it wisely. there are four main places on campus that take meal plans: blazer, commons, ovids and k-lair. blazer is the buffet style all-you-can-eat place on north campus, and the food is usually decent here. commons is the equivalent on south campus, and depending on the day, the food is adequate but sometimes boring here. ovids is located on the side of the william t. young library, and the food is great here, but watch out for busy times because it gets extremely crowded. and lastly, k-lair is in central campus, and i think the food gets overlooked a lot here but is really good. it has a lot more space than ovids, and just as good of food but for some reason people tend to forget about it.

    Dorm Life

some of the dorms are outdated, but i would definitely recommend living in a dorm at least for one or two years. it's a unique experience and you meet so many people that way. north campus is not as crowded as south campus, so it is a lot more quiet, and it is very close to a lot of food places on south limestone. it is quite a hike to the library and to south campus, however, so if you have friends also attending, try to get on the same side of campus at least!

    Academic Rigor

i gave three stars for academic rigor - it really just depends on what major you choose. i was an accounting student at the gatton college of business and economics. i felt that some of the university studies courses were pretty easy but very interesting, but once you get into your upper division accounting classes, it can get extremely challenging. i have had several friends who were in the engineering department, and that is one of the most difficult majors out there. get ready to work your butt of there! same with nursing. but it will all be worth it if you find what you love.

    Tips for prospective students

apply for housing early; it fills up fast. meet with your advisor about classes; they know what prerequisites you need to be on track and can give you great advice. attend everything you can go to - basketball games, lectures, keeneland meets, student activity board events - don't miss out on a thing! p.s. this website takes away every capital letter i type, so don't use the lack of caps as a basis to judge uk please.

    In three sentences

the university of kentucky is a college that prides itself on high education and deep tradition. you will get a quality education here, while at the same time being a part of a 30,000+ family. i would not trade my time here for anything, and highly recommend it for anyone looking at attending a university.

    Academic Rigor

none of the classes are cakewalks, each demands effort in your studies, homework, and projects to pass the class.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt threatened or unsafe here on campus, and they have this really great system to warn students when something does happen called UK Alert. It's a mass text/call system that alerts all students of a crime bulletin or suspicious activity that has been reported.

    Greek Life

Unannounced to me Greek life is huge here, and often times obnoxious. I would say about 65% of campus is involved in the Greek communities and it can often times be really in your face and annoying. But, they are really good for the Lexington community; they participate in hundreds of hours of community service, and most of them are required to maintain a really high GPA.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs on campus from Christian clubs to environmental groups to even a Quidditch team!! No matter who you are or what you like, you will definitely find somewhere to fit in here.

Great for these types of students

This university seems to be tailored towards more independent students regarding academics, outside choices, community involvement; you really get out whatever you put in to. It's all up to you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Obviously UK is a HUGE basketball powerhouse, and it is not uncommon for people to cheer and holler during games in the library. It's a great community building moment, especially when they flash mob the library and start chanting! We definitely bleed blue here at UK!

    Bang for the buck

I would say the university strives to make you feel like you're getting everything possible, but sometimes things just seem too expensive. All tutoring, counseling, health care and fitness facilities are included in your tuition, but simple stuff such as a soda from the vending machine can run you almost $3!

    What to do for fun

Honestly, there isn't much open on campus during the weekends, but Lexington is a fun and lively city. There's horse racing, dining, a lovely downtown, and great shopping!

    Food and Dining

The food is DELICIOUS! There are a lot of options for dining and the restaurants often host community events like concerts, or grill outs, to switch it up and keep the students involved.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice, but most are outdated. They are working on building a new one right now, but it will only house honors students. The university strives for community building and inclusiveness in their residence halls. However, it is 80% freshmen that live on campus, so if you're an upper classmen, think about looking in to some apartments. But, if you are a freshmen your best bet is to definitely live on campus; you get to live and learn with some of your best friends!

    Academic Rigor

The courses are challenging here at UK, but they are not designed to fail you. It is easy to be overwhelmed at times, but you have to step back and take a look at the bigger picture and realize this is all designed to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

This university is a challenging academic institution so if you are looking for an easy ride, I do not suggest the University of Kentucky. We are a university full of tradition and hold potential for a bright future. This university is more than a school, it's a community, and a family.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is an outstanding university designed to challenge, inspire and promote knowledge in all students. The academics are tough and the classes are challenging; but hey, didn't you come to learn? UK is a reputable academic institution that will push you as hard as you will let them.

The campus features a Cat Path that is constantly patrolled that covers the entire campus. Not only that, but emergency buttons are placed all over the campus and the University has their own police department - UKPD. With over 30,000 students, it proves difficult to prevent 100% of all crime, but the University does an excellent job so far.

    Greek Life

Not entirely sure because I have not been to a Greek-sponsored event and I have not pledged, but the people seem friendly. Their parties are notorious for fun and craziness. The philanthropies that Greek organizations sponsor are overshadowed by their negative reputations.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a plethora of groups and clubs to join that involve sports, video games, food, lotteries, and fundraising.

Great for these types of students

The University of Kentucky is great for open-minded individuals who want to learn, successfully prepare for a career, have fun, experience the joys of responsibility, meet interesting people, share experiences, and build long-lasting relationships both romantically and friendly.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

During finals week, if you rub Mr. Patterson's shoe in the courtyard of Patterson Tower and Whitehall Classroom Building, it is supposed to bring you good luck. Also, what many people don't know is that there is a basement tunnel that connects Whitehall and Patterson Tower that contains the post office and the mathskellar.

    Bang for the buck

No doubt in my mind - The University of Kentucky is worth every penny you spend IF you enter the University with an open-mind.

    What to do for fun

All kinds of activities! Every Wednesday night is the comedy caravan at the Cats Den. Famous performers, actors, and plays are held every month at the Singletary center. With the exception of basketball and football games, all students get into sports events for free. Right off-campus are townhouses where some really fun parties are held both alcoholic (when you are of age) and non-alcoholic. Three exercise facilities are offered on each part of campus that are intertwined with athletic equipment and areas such as indoor pools, rock climbing walls, and running tracks. If that doesn't satisfy you enough, students get discounts to the latest movie showings both on campus and at surrounding theaters!

    Food and Dining

Food is never an issue. The campus offers over 120 affiliated restaurants and you could eat at one a day and still not overlap for almost 4 months! UK also offers their own dining halls and cafes with gourmet buffets and meals all at the convenience of a card swipe. The card is provided BY UK FOR UK, not your traditional credit card or debit card.

    Dorm Life

This greatly depends on the dorm. The dorm towers Kirwan and Blanding have over 20 floors of students so the bonding experience will be hindered. I stayed in Jewell Hall which is relatively small, but extremely diverse. Despite a few petty instances, I would not trade the experience for anything. I have met my current girlfriend and the majority of my now friends in this dorm.

    Academic Rigor

I'm going to be completely honest with you - the courses that are offered at this college are not for the weak minded. I have two semesters of experience and I can tell you that even the requirement classes you cannot slack off in. Does this mean it is impossible? Of course not, but you must put forth the effort. This is a huge difference from highschool and I even took the AP program.

    Tips for prospective students

Research if classes will actually use the textbook because I have bought several brand-new textbooks that were required and didn't use them a single time. I still excelled in my classes without the textbook. Not just that, but be open-minded about meeting new people. Give K-Week a chance! I still have friends that I met during that week that will last long-term.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is an excellent school with a very powerful sense of sports pride, seemingly endless supply of activities, and challenging classes. Not only that, the food is lavish and the dorm life is full of crazy experiences.

Greek life is a great way to get involved on campus, I am a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and it is one of the best experiences I have had thus far at UK.

    Clubs and Activities

UK has a ton of clubs but if they are missing one that you want to be a part of the student organization center is more than willing to help you get the organization started as long as you have a three person interest group (not difficult considering the large and diverse campus).

    Food and Dining

On and off campus, the food is great. My favorite place on campus would have to be Blazer Cafe located on North campus its a nice buffet you can eat whatever you want and as much as you want.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great once you get visitation. North campus is a lot closer to classes especially for freshmen however south campus is getting a lot nicer dorms. I lived in Keeneland my first year and I loved it because I was five minutes from all my classes and only feet away from Blazer Cafe.

    Academic Rigor

Freshmen courses aren't to bad but if you are taking more serious courses you have to study a lot. Weed out courses are awful but for some majors like biology they can't be avoided.

    In three sentences

I love that my campus is not just a concrete slab. There is plenty of green space to sit down and study. The student body is incredibly friendly and willing to help in any way they can.

    Dorm Life

The RAs know what they are doing and the dorms are average. But getting to know your neighbors and hall mates, you will find friends quickly. Each dorm has a monthly event that showcases prizes and games.

    Academic Rigor

The school and professors are very honest with their expectations at the very beginning of every semester. Tests, quizzes, homework, projects and presentations are frequent and time managment is key.

    Tips for prospective students

There is plenty to do for fun. There is always something happening on campus and the surrounding Lexington area.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining seems to get repetitive after a year of the same food, but there are many different place to go and eat.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not the fanciest or always the cleanest, but they're manageable.

    Academic Rigor

The academic work is definitely harder than high school. Try to personally introduce yourself to your teachers and always take advantage of the professor's office hours.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not get caught up in all the excitement that is always going on. Stay focused on school work before anything else, but try to get involved in at least one extra curricular activity or group, in order to avoid feeling alone in such a big school.

    In three sentences

It is an amazing school. You get the away from home experience with the friendly, warm, loving peers. I could not imagine going anywhere else for school.

    Academic Rigor

The work is tough, what you learned in High School is only two weeks on class. So remember you have help and take advantage of the tutors and the professor's office hours. Lastly what you did in High School is not going to work. You will have to study and study hard.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip for you prospective students is to come with an open mind. There are so many things the UK offers so come in and start looking. Another thing is to connect with other students because they might end up being a god study partner. Last I you are going to be on your own in every sense of the phrase so make sure you make wise decisions about fun and academics.

Allegedly, if you rub the foot of the statue of James Patterson in front of the Patterson Office Tower, you will do better on your final exams.

    What to do for fun

Go to Keeneland to watch the horse races and there is a great dollar theater a couple miles away.

    Food and Dining

Blazer has options for everyone, but Ovid's has the best food. There is a Panda Express, Chickfila, Subway, and Starbucks in the student center, with two more Starbucks located on different sides of campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are incredibly old and outdated. Some don't offer AC, they all have a unique funky smell, and the bathrooms are terrible.

    Academic Rigor

    Greek Life

Greek Life is HUGE. Give it a chance because you never know who you will connect with, and it is a great way to be involved with a lot of different activities on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student, and even for me to go out of state, it is only a little more expensive than had I decided to stay in state.

    What to do for fun

I am in a sorority and I LOVE being involved with that. I also use the Johnson Center a lot because it is a free facility for UK students and is a wonderful gym. I also like going to frozen yogurt after going to UK basketball games. There was never a moment where I didn't have something to do. There are always fun, new opportunities, you just have to take them.

    Food and Dining

The food is great! Be careful though because if you get a meal plan of more than 8 meals a week, you can consume a lot of calories without even realizing it. But if calories are not an issue than I would not be worried, the food is yummy and made specifically for you!

    Dorm Life

I loved living in the dorms. I was in a Living Learning Community, and so a lot of the people that I lived with had similar interests to me. For this reason, I made lifelong friends and had I not joined a LLC, I would not have made those friends, and would have had a completely different college experience.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are by no means easy, but what you put in, you will get out. If you put fourth effort and try, you will succeed. The professors at UK set out to help you succeed, and are also required to do current research in their field. This means they know what they are teaching you, which is very reassuring.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

There are police officers everywhere. If you feel uncomfortable going to your dorm late at night, just have the main reception call-they've got golf carts or a ROTC member to get you to your dorm safely. However, the campus is open-nothing prevents a thief from walking right through. Don't leave your things lying around.

Great for these types of students

Outgoing (plenty of parties and activities) Introverted (there's something like twelve libraries to find a nice quiet study nook in!) Gays (there's an LGBT group) Straights (the fifth floor of Willy T is apparently the best place to find a date) Anyone who is willing to actually do work and wants to enjoy themselves while they do.

    Food and Dining

A bunch of on-campus branches of brand-name restaurants (I ate at Fazoli's on my last trip there). A bunch of school-owned restaurants. A dining plan is included in the price of living in a dorm, and the swipes are usable at any of the school-owned restaurants.

    Dorm Life

There's a bunch of dorms to choose from and they all have different personalities. The non-coed dorms have the biggest rooms! Donovan Hall has a workout place beneath it.

    Academic Rigor

    Excellent range of classes

    Tips for prospective students

-Talk to everyone. That's why they're there. Financial aid counselor, admissions counselor, or just call. -Apply early. I had my application in as soon as I could (October) and got the decision letter in November. -GPA is important, so don't slack off, but practice your testing skills for the ACT or SAT. My GPA was 2.98, but I got accepted with an ACT score of 32. -Visit the campus anytime you get the chance. It's beautiful. And bring an umbrella!

    In three sentences

This campus is gorgeous, there are safety measures everywhere, and everyone is incredibly helpful. I have yet to see someone who wouldn't point me in the right direction (or give me a completely random high-five when she realized we had the same major). There are many unusual yet exciting things that happen on campus. During the winter time when it has been snowing, people will sled in front of the library. During the stress of finals week, people flock to William T Young library to study (it's more of a social hour). Football tailgates are a lot of fun for students to celebrate and socialize. Basketball is the biggest tradition at the University. It provides for the most fun on campus and the atmosphere is thrilling

    Bang for the buck

The University of Kentucky can be pricey, especially for out-of-state students. It is totally worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

At the University of Kentucky it's hard to NOT have fun! There are inter-mural sports, Johnson center, sport courts, and resident activities through out the year. South campus dorms typically have activities outside. Football games and tailgate are the best part of the fall, and basketball dominates the spring semester!

    Food and Dining

There are many options regarding food and dining at the University of Kentucky. Dining halls provide a variety of options including deli, grille, buffet style, fiesta bar, etc. On campus there are also good quality chains such as Subway, Sbarro, and Chick-fil-a.

    Dorm Life

The University of Kentucky is currently planning and building new central/south campus dorms. Dorm life enables students to create lasting friendships and build essential life skills. North campus dorms are centered around being studious and they are close to classes. Central campus is girl only and boy only. South campus is close to dining, library, and social scene.

    Academic Rigor

The classes and work are reasonable for a college student. The professors are experienced in their fields and are willing to help students around the clock. Earning a high GPA is simple if you keep up with your studies and always ask questions!

    Clubs and Activities

We have around 400 clubs and organisations! There is something for literally everyday of the week!

Great for these types of students

This university is great for sports fans, especially basketball, football, and baseball. It is also great for anyone who is considering being involved with Greek Life.

    What to do for fun

Every night there is something to do at UK! The Student Activities Board works hard to keep campus jumping at all times. Concerts, comedy shows, art exhibits, there is something for everyone!

    Food and Dining

Food is excellent on campus! The Freshman 15 is sadly easy to gain just due to the options you have at your feet for every meal! The best dining halls are Ovid's Cafe and Blazer Hall.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at UK is a good time, no matter where you live. I lived in one of the dorms that are considered the worst and I still didn't mind living there. The Blanding-Kirwan Complex, where I lived, as well as Hagin, are considered some of the worst residence halls on campus, but its mostly due to age. The Complex was a great place to live just because there so many people at any given time of day, it was almost guaranteed to make a new buddy! The hall governments in the halls, as well as the RA's, work to make living in the buildings as fun as possible by creating events to unite the residence hall. The major downside, in my opinion, was the check-in policy for guests, but that was for the safety of the dormitory so it was understandable.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor really does depend on the courses you take, just like most universities. Classes such as Biology and Chemistry are still the most difficult courses I've encountered people taking, but all classes are definitely do-able if you apply yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering UK for any reason at all, whether it is for financial reasons or because it is your dream school, you should know that campus is crawling with things to keep you entertained and engaged with your fellow student body. Campus is also ripe with UK-exclusive lingo and traditions, so the best thing you can do is fully submerge yourself in these traditions. Its also important to know that our basketball team TRULY is the pride and joy of the entire school, that is not just the media portrayal, we really do love basketball.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is a fabulous place to call home for the next chapter in your life! It has a niche, activity, or group for everyone, while working hard to have these differing groups interact with each other. It's great also because the professors are all so engaged and attentive with their students, striving to make students love the subject as much as the professor themselves do.

    Campus Safety

I felt extremely safe when I walk through campus even at midnight walking back from the library ! And even if you do not feel safe there are multiple different options to make sure you are safe.

    Greek Life

100% I would recommend everyone going to UK who is not involved in athletics to rush. This is one of the sole reasons I ended up staying at UK. At Kentucky it is a highly greek community and it is harder to make friends when you either do not get involved in greek life or other organizations since the school is so large.

Great for these types of students

Outgoing, there are a lot of students from the lexington area, but there are also a lot of students from everywhere else but majority of lexington high school students will go to UK.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is actually not bad. Although does tend to get old after a few months and when you go home for Christmas break it makes you appreciate your moms cooking even more. Ovids has wonderful salads for those of you trying to keep the freshman 15 away (:

    Dorm Life

The basic dorms are actually pretty gross. Dont get me wrong none of the dorms are fantastic but the basic student dorms are sooo tiny and extremely close to your roommate. The suite style rooms are much nicer though. I would definitely recommend living on south campus.

    Academic Rigor

At first for me the switch from high school to college was extremely difficult because the amount of work I had to do in high school was extremely minimal. Therefore I was in for a rude awakening when I finally got to college. Therefore my message from this is to for sure talk to your professors, get to know them and actually talk to them about your grades. If you are struggling, ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED. Actually go to class, no matter what your friends tell you. Know your professors name/TA's name/section number. Do not be afraid to go to your professors office hours.

    In three sentences

I believe that in order to have fun at this campus you must get involved. This is one of the key aspects at such a large university ! And it is seriously so easy to get involved here, there are so many different opportunities for all different students.

the Bowl- a hill were students gather for fun activities, especialy for sleding ithe winter months. DanceBlue is a student philathropist group that hosts a 24 hour dance marathon for the University of Kentucky Children's Oncology Clinic. I have been involved in this group since first arriving on campus as a freshman. Not that it is an unusual traditons, but it is a very special tradition.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of attnding UK has gone up, but I am confident it will pay off in the end. There are a lot of resources available to students that are incuded in the cost of attendance.

    What to do for fun

On campus theater, concerts, sporting events, intramural sports, numerous organizations for students to join. Lots of activities for students to get to know each other at the beginning of the school year.

    Food and Dining

Plenty of places on campus and close to campus with an enormous variety of foods at reasonable prices.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was a great experience, but there is a shortage of dorm sapce after your freshman year. I ws lucky enough to get on campus housing my ophomore year, but since then, have had to go off campus for housing.

    Academic Rigor

I went to a high school with one of the top academic programs in the country and felt I was well prepared for college. UK has very strict academic guidelines and high expectations of students. My professors, fort eh PST part have been interested in my success and willing to help. there are many on campus resources for helping me be a successful student.

    Tips for prospective students

Make campus visits. Talk to current students. Meet with advisors for the different fields of study.

    Greek Life

Greek life is great! I don't care if you have always thought you'd never join a Greek association, but I highly recommend it. It is a great way to meet all kinds of people, from all over the country who share the same interests as you! Plus it's a great way to network!

    What to do for fun

Drink. Volunteer. Tailgate with your friends! Go to basketball games. Hookah bars. House parties.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright, it gets old pretty fast, but it's also super convenient and a great way to keep up with friends, waste time in between classes, but the student center has a lot of great restaurant options that are super refreshing from the dining halls.

    Dorm Life

Gross!!!! Unless you get one of the new dorms, you really won't miss out if you live at Angliana, Newtown, The Lex, but wherever you stay do NOT stay at Royal Lex. All of those apartment complexes are full of students, so they're just like the dorms, but no rules! and a pool!

    Academic Rigor

UK is a very challenging school, professors are nice, but they expect a lot out of you. Freshman year, in your bigger lecture halls, you might think you'll be able to get away with anything, but they remember faces and you will most likely see them again in a smaller class setting.

    Tips for prospective students

Go greek! Get involved. Do your homework. Go to class, even if it is snowing. Speak up. Experiment with anything and everything. Do NOT date anyone freshman year and do not date anyone under 24 (ladies). Get familiar with Willy T (the library) and do NOT forget your student ID after 10!

    In three sentences

A drinking town with a football problem. An overgrown suburb disguised as an urban city. Friendly faces all around.

    What to do for fun

If you join a sorority or fraternity there will be social events or service events to do with your group. The Student Activities Board seems to always have something going on, and there are free movies every week. Parties definitely happen, but you can go downtown in Lexington, go someplace just off campus, etc. Football games in the fall are big social events and if you can actually get basketball tickets through the lottery system the games are a lot of fun! There are clubs that sponsor events, and if you get involved in different organizations there will be different meetings and events for you to go to. Also, intramural sports are a good way to meet people and stay active!

    Food and Dining

UK has good options for meal plans, and there is one that can fit everyone's needs. The cafeteria style dining halls have a lot of variety all of the time and are all you can eat for one meal swipe. The food is generally good but the same options are presented almost every day. Some of the other restaurant-type dining places offer more variety, and basically everything can be cooked to order or changed in some way. There is a good selection of other restaurants (Subway, Panda Express, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Qdoba, Sbarro) that are on campus and there other restaurants that are a little more expensive right on/off campus that have better food.

    Dorm Life

The dorm situation depends on where you live. South Campus is where a lot of socializing goes on but the Kirwan-Blanding Complex (2 towers and low-rises for each) is very old. New dorms are in the process of being built, so if you want new dorms make sure you turn your forms in early! The towers aren't bad (2 person rooms) but they have communal bathrooms that are very old, and the elevators occasionally go out. Central Campus has guy-only dorms and a girl-only dorm. I have been told that Haggin for the guys is awful, but everyone survives. North Campus is where the newest dorms are for now, and those dorms are known for being more studious. Living in the dorms is a great way to meet new people and make friends. When people on your floor go out, if you have made an effort to talk to them, they might ask you to go along too! Talking about dorm experiences is another way to connect with people, so no matter where you might end up in the dorms it is a good experience to have.

    Academic Rigor

I am currently taking more difficult classes with professors who expect a lot from each student, regardless of background knowledge of the topic. The UK Core classes make sure that everyone is taking a variety of courses but there are ways to take easy math and science classes for students in majors that don't require the classes. Professors are very knowledgeable, occasionally a little difficult to understand, and the TA's for recitation classes know what they are doing (but there are some that don't).

    Tips for prospective students

If you have the grades and test scores, make sure you apply for the competitive scholarships-the application takes time but it may be well worth the effort! Don't be afraid to ask questions because you want to make sure that UK is the right place for YOU. Make sure to visit UK, especially if you have not been to Lexington before. The atmosphere here is very distinct and getting a feel for that might change your decision.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is a school with a lot of spirit, and the atmosphere here is definitely one of it's distinct characteristics. Classes keep everyone (who is trying to learn) busy, professors try to keep things interesting, and the homework reinforces concepts being taught. The campus is big enough to feel spread out, but it is always very walkable.

    What to do for fun

There's tons of options on campus for fun like church groups, clubs, sports, intermurals, and outdoors trips with the Johnson exercise center. Downtown Lexington is also a mile walk away with a movie theater, mall and shops.

    Food and Dining

Most of the food is fried and there aren't many healthy options if it's not but at the same time, they have many options and are filling foods. There are some cafes that have more homemade type foods as well, so the variety is the real plus here.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are old and small but they are kept clean and close to most classes. They also have game rooms and kitchens so there are things to do.

    Academic Rigor

The classes require studying but they aren't so demanding that there isn't time for socializing. The teachers are easy to find and willing to help most of the time and having that available is nice.

    Tips for prospective students

Find somewhere on campus to call home. There are so many things to do here that there is something you're interested to find and do. College is all about finding out who you are and what you're interested in, so it's great to go for it.

    In three sentences

Kentucky is great about getting people involved quickly. I was nervous about it but they were very welcoming and I found a lot of opportunities quickly. The teachers are accessible and even though it's a large campus, you can make it feel small and more personal.

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do around campus! All of the organizations like to get their name out so they have activites throughout the week. It is never a dull moment here on campus, especially if you live on campus! Especially the weekends the Christian Fellowship always has an activity to keep students safe. There are intermural sports going on in the fall and basketball games in the winter!

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is not that good, it is not to bad,but I do not like eating there everyday. However, so many places deliver after hours that even if you are up late studying and want to get some food, there is always a resturant that is willing to deliver your food to you. Also, most places accept your plus card (which is your campus money) so you will not have to spend your own money on your credit card!

    Dorm Life

I live in the dorms and they are not very well kept. The showers are rather nasty, so much that we cannot enter one without sandals on. Even walking around the dorm in general without sandals on is risky. The internet connection is shared between everyone in the dorm, meaning that one hundred twenty six students are using one internet connection. So it is really slow and sometimes doesnt work at all. The rooms are about the size of a walk in closet and the carpet is as old as the building. It's only saving grace is the Resident Attendents(RA) and the fact that you can control the own temperature in your room. The RA students are really nice and super helpful, especially to those of us that are freshman.

    Academic Rigor

The High School I went to did not challenge me that much, but the University of Kentucky certainly does. The classes I am in right now, I feel are excellent for me. They are just complicated enough that I have to apply myself to do well in them, yet they are simple enough that I am not having to fight my way through the lectures everyday. Your academic advisor helps you to pick out your classes, and the one that I have with me is extremely knowledgeable.

    Tips for prospective students

Start saving up your money now, it is never to late to plan ahead. Also, you do not need to have your major planned out, it is very easy to change while you are here. Join clubs, and organizations and be active in the community. We are a big blue nation, so we all participate in something. Do not just pick a school for its sports, pick a school because you can see yourself living and learning there for the next four years of your life. Lastly, do random roommate assignment. I absolutely love my roommate and its great to have met someone brand new and gotten to know them so well!

    In three sentences

I would give the University of Kentucky a 4. I would give it a 4 because the dorm situation is awful, but other then that life is great here! Everybody that is at this campus is genuinely here to help you achieve.

I enjoy the great community feel of the campus. It has great professors and adminstrators. Everyone feels like family here.

There is something for everyone here at UK...from football to ballroom dancing, and hockey to quidditch (yes, from harry potter!).

    Bang for the buck

Well...the Late Night Film Series is free some nights and a dollar other nights! And there's a movie theater not too far away that has movies for a dollar as well - just gotta have a car.

    What to do for fun

There are many ways to have fun on campus. Within the dorms there are movie nights, game nights, and discussions about important things like safety and dating. Outside of the dorms, there is the Late Night Film Series at the Student Center where they show free movies! There are many other ways to get involved, just go out and look for them..or they might even find you.

    Food and Dining

The food is awesome for a college campus. It isn't the healthiest that you're going to find but they do have a varied range of food selections. There are a couple of buffet style restaurants, multiple fast-food restaurants, and an order as you want it type of restaurant.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. Though the rooms aren't perfect, there is a great sense of community within the dorms. The resident advisers are always there to help you with grades, stress, and even just to listen.

    Academic Rigor

Academics is important at UK; the professors are extremely helpful if you take the time to go to their office hours. There are also other ways to learn material, if not through lecture, there is the Study - which is free tutoring!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are wanting to come to UK, I would suggest setting up a great study schedule that has room for fun and homework. The campus is inviting and you may want to stray from getting good grades but if you have a day by day schedule that you can keep up with - you're bound to have a fun and easy time through college.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is a pretty safe campus with a large population. There are many things to do to get involved while staying on track for a degree. Most here want to help you make it through college with passing grades while being able to enjoy it.

    Academic Rigor

You have the choice to take easy classes or rigorous classes that challenge you. I recommend not taking a ton of easy classes and at least taking one or two challenging classes a semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships and housing as soon as you can. The sooner you get this done the better chance you have of getting a good dorm or more scholarship money. Also apply for financial aid on Jan. 1.

    Dorm Life

Overall, living in a dorm is a good decision because it allows a greater connection to campus. However, this year, there has been a distinct lack of hot water.

    Academic Rigor

As with any college, the lower level classes don't require as much work or study as the higher classes. However, Honors classes as well as higher level classes do require studying and willingness to work.

    Campus Safety

There were a few campus safety scares toward the beginning of last semester, but I haven't really heard anything since. The UK Police are very informative about campus safety hazards if you sign up for their alerts. UK Police also offer free self defense classes for women that are open to both students and the public. Overall, I feel very safe on campus.

Great for these types of students

If you are a social creature, or would like to become one, (and aren't majoring in anything that requires severe concentration) UK is definitely the place for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

K Week: Before and during the first week of classes, there are tons of events and activities to welcome incoming freshman including all kinds of games, informational sessions, and (most importantly) free stuff!!

    Bang for the buck

I'm here mainly on scholarships so all-in-all, I can't really complain about the cost of the school. Sure, my education will probably be the same quality as anyone else's elsewhere, but I feel very safe and welcome on campus, plus there are so many resources at my disposal that the price is worth it.

    What to do for fun

UK is a very athletic oriented school, so attending games and events are a lot of fun. Also, UK hosts all different sorts of entertainers throughout the year at the Singletary Center for the Arts. Campus is beautiful as well, so one might even find it fun to just take a walk. In the dorms, it's also fun to get together with neighbors and play games.

    Food and Dining

It depends on where you go, honestly. Not all campus dining is made equal. The dining facility closest to where I lived was awesome, but I've heard some of them weren't quite as good. Overall, though, I think campus dining is great!

    Dorm Life

I spent last semester in the Honors dorm on campus and I'm glad I did. I felt very safe in my dorm room and never had to worry about intruders or my things being stolen. The other people in my dorm are very lively and very willing to help if I ever needed anything. I was very comfortable there.

    Academic Rigor

Perhaps it was just specific classes that I took, but I was definitely academically challenged last semester. Although I finished the semester with impressive grades, I spent the entire semester worrying about my GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

K Week introductory activities are awesome and a good way to get to know the campus, but don't get used to having fun and partying all the time. By September, you'll have to crack down on studying!

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful and very safe, in my opinion. There are innumerable resources on campus that are open and available for advice on any kind of problem a student might encounter. This might be one of the more expensive choices of a university, but if you can afford it or get scholarships, it's definitely worth choosing.

    Campus Safety

The campus is in the middle of the city - it's obviously not the safest, but campus police do a pretty good job, and you're alerted by email every time a crime happens on campus.

    Greek Life

I'm not a member of Greek Life, but I'd recommend joining for the simple fact that so much of the social activities on campus revolve around being Greek. If you're not in the Greek community, you may find yourself at a loss for things to do.

    Clubs and Activities

The school boasts hundreds of student organizations, but honestly, unless you know someone who is already in a specific club, it's not likely that you'll ever hear about it or find a way to join.

Great for these types of students

Driven people who engage in activities and want to be busy and involved. Very social people. Hard workers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The library is huge, and it's often crowded, almost like a social spot. There's a group that shows free movies on campus pretty often. There's also the Cat's Den, which has free concerts and game nights from time to time.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is double for out-of-state students. It's up to each student to decide whether or not it's worth paying the extra.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of stores/malls in Lexington, if you like shopping. There's a movie theater as well, but it's not very close, so you'll have to either drive or take a bus. Downtown Lexington is a nice area and they have an ice skating rink in the winter.

    Food and Dining

Having a meal plan is mandatory if you live on campus. It's a little pricey, but the food is pretty good, and there are a lot of options.

    Dorm Life

Living in a dorm is extremely convenient since it's close to all your classes. Visitation rules vary depending on which dorm you live in. The only downside is parking - you'll probably have to park your car at the football stadium, which could be miles away from your residence hall.

    Academic Rigor

Pretty standard for a large school. Be prepared to be taught by a lot of TAs (not professors with degrees), especially in your intro-level classes. The school has a free peer tutoring program if you're struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved on campus right away! It's extremely easy to get caught up in the chaos of a large campus and feeling overwhelmed...and next thing you know, you're halfway through a semester and haven't found a niche.

    In three sentences

In terms of academics, it's pretty average for a large, public university. Campus is large, but pretty convenient nonetheless. There are plenty of ways to get involved.

The Student Activities board is always planning events and holding concerts. You can watch free movies at Worsham Theatre every week. If you are board, there is something on campus that will occupy your time.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of choices and all of the food I have eaten on campus is excellent. I wish more restaurants were open later because Ovid's is the only restaurant open at night. Its a bit of an inconvienence to walk all the way to the library to eat, but it's worth it.

    Dorm Life

My dorm and most of the other dorms on campus are old and have problems. The parking is very far away which is a hassle and the internet is spotty at best. I am glad new dorms are being built so some of the worse dorms currently in use can be ripped down.

    Academic Rigor

This is college, not high school. Classes are hard and take a lot of effort. I need to study at least three times a week. A lot of classes dont have too much homework so you think you can get by just doing that and studing for tests, but exams like to sneak up on you and if you arent prepared your grades will suffer.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus, talk to students, and just get a feel for UK before you decide to come here. A big University isnt for everyone.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is amazing! I love it here because campus is gorgeous and teachers and teacher assistants do everything they can to provide a high quality education. Great for these types of students

Great for students interested in research and the sciences. Kentucky is one of the top research universities and it is incorporated into almost every major. I will not be required to conduct research, but have had the opportunity to participate in several studies.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Kentucky basketball is absolutely huge. Game days are exciting and everyone comes together for games, either to attend them or come together to watch them.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition does rise every year or two, but it is average for a state school. As a college student I of course wish it was cheaper, but I am pleased with the education I am receiving from UK and with the campus life and activities offered here.

    What to do for fun

Lexington offers many events including big concerts, good shopping, horse racing in the Fall and Spring, and more. Campus is only a few minutes from downtown and clubs and organizations also offer events for almost every night of the week.

    Food and Dining

Lots of different options on and very near campus! UK's meal plan includes many of the restaurants as well so payment is convenient.

    Dorm Life

I transferred to UK so I never lived in the dorms, but my friends enjoyed them. They are building many new dorms on campus so it will improve soon.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on your major, but professors are good and every professor is required to have set office hours every week. Besides office hours, UK offers several different free tutuoring programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with a group early to make friends. Whether it be a club, a greek organization, or an on-campus job like I chose, find a way to make friends. Living on and near campus is a great experience that I highly recommend. Go to your classes and utilize the help professors offer. Even though your class many have hundreds of people, the professors still go to great measures to ensure they have convenient office hours and I have never had a professor turn me down if I needed to schedule an alternate time or get additional help.

    In three sentences

UK is a lively, large campus that mixes strong academics, great sports teams, and a fun social setting. The university offers many majors and has many good professors, but unfortunately does offer classes taught by TA's. Greek life is very popular, but as an independent I still have a great time and have made many friends.

    Campus Safety

My safety on campus is rarely a concern. University of Kentucky has their own police department that surveillance the campus. They have recently created a safe path to all common areas and installed new lights.

    Greek Life

I plan to look into Greek life next year. During my first year at UK, I wanted to give myself time to acclimate to the demands of college. I have since been introduced to several members from a fraternity that have been great mentors for me.

    Clubs and Activities

There are activities planned daily for University of Kentucky students. I have just joined the Arabic Language Club after taking Arabic as a foreign language. This is comical to those back home, because I used to be such a country boy.

Great for these types of students

There is something for everyone at University of Kentucky. An outstanding aquatic and athletic center is available to all students interested in swimming, rock climbing, or general exercise.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus library can be very intimidating when viewing it for the first time, but I have found that it has become my favorite place to study. It can be difficult to focus on classwork while in the dorm. I prefer to do all of my homework in the library.

    Bang for the buck

I have enjoyed my experience thus far at University of Kentucky. There are times when I may get a little homesick, but everyone is just a phone call or Skype away. I definitely made the best choice for my future by choosing UK.

    What to do for fun

For fun, I often visit with friends, work out at the athletic center, catch a free movie on campus, or participate in an on-campus 5k run. There is always something to do on campus at University of Kentucky, and the staff and faculty are very good about informing students about upcoming events.

    Food and Dining

The campus dining areas have excellent food. The Commons is great for home-cooked style meals, but there are several fast food options on campus, as well. Every eating place is clean and well-kept.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make of it. Those who choose to stay in their room all of the time will not have as pleasant of an experience as one who takes advantage of the recreation rooms and lobbies.

    Academic Rigor

The academic work is challenging, but not impossible. As with any college, some courses are more difficult than others, especially depending on individual interests. However, I have learned a great deal and matured more with each course I've taken.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend groups, activities, and events that are outside your comfort zone. This is your best way to meet new people. If you go to college with a friend, don't spend all of your free time with them. Go out on your own and create your own experiences.

    In three sentences

Coming from a very small town, I was anxious to experience life as a student at University of Kentucky. Thus far, I have enjoyed my courses, and my instructors have been very personable. The opportunities at UK are endless!

    Campus Safety

Duing my entire time at UK, I never once felt unsafe. Campus security/police were always readily available.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of sporting events, movies, and other awesome things going on around campus all the time. If you are every bored or alone, it's your own fault. Make sure to take advantage ofstudent tickets to watch our legendary men's basketball team! Go Wildcats!

    Food and Dining

Great! So many choices all around campus. Ovids is the best place to eat!

    Dorm Life

I lived in Keeneland Hall & I loved it because it is newly renovated, but unless you get a suite, I hear dorm life is miserable.

    Academic Rigor

It's not that difficult depending on the classes and professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to join clubs and be involved with activities or else you will be swallowed alive by the huge campus and all the people. You will feel like adrop of water in the ocean if you don't find smaller groups to be a part of.

    In three sentences

Professors focus a lot more on their researh than teaching their classes. I love the campus but it is so huge that it can be overwhelming. On campus housing isn't very nice unless you live in a suite.

    Campus Safety

The Campus security is fantastic. The ROTC students even offer a volunteer based Safety Cats transportation service when it gets dark, so you don't have to walk all the way back to your dorm/car alone.

    Greek Life

My Greek friends say it's a blast.

    Clubs and Activities

Literally anything and everything you could want.

Great for these types of students

Determined, self-driven students that want to have some fun occasionally but still do well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have impromptu flash mobs during finals week in the big library on campus. They're a lot of fun.

    Bang for the buck

You're going to get a great education and have fun here, if you try.

    What to do for fun

This is seriously up to the individual. There's a LOT to do, you just have to go find it.

    Food and Dining

They offer fantastic meal plans, with a lot of on campus restaurants to choose from. I suggest getting more Flex dollars that meal swipes. Most of your classes will be near the student center (where you can spend flex at restaurants like Chick-fil-a) than south campus (where Commons, the meal swipe buffet) is.

    Dorm Life

Depending on where you get placed, dorm life can be pleasant or not so pleasant. South campus is definitely where you want to be if you want to party, but at the expense of cleanliness. North Campus is where you want to go if you want to study all night and not get interrupted by the occasional intoxicated hall mate.

    Academic Rigor

If you want A's, even as a Freshman, you'll need to devote ample study time for your classes. The core classes you're required to take aren't super difficult, but you have to show up, take notes, and prepare for tests to do well. I spend about 3 hours extra on my hardest classes in study time to get good grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with something. You will get blasted with this no matter where you go, but for real guys, if you don't get involved, you won't want to come back. So find a place and jump right in!

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky offers a lot of diverse organizations to get involved with - not just their great academic, research-based education. There's literally something for EVERYONE to do here, and that, to me, makes the campus and university so much better. You won't regret it.

    Greek Life

    Very good

Great for these types of students

Greek life, not interested in challenging academics, social scene

    What to do for fun

Not a whole lot in Lexington.. There is a pretty good bar scene for the older students and younger students won't have any problems finding frat/house parties to attend.

    Food and Dining

AWFUL! The cafeterias are the worst. (Blazer, for example.) A lot of fried food and not a lot to offer healthy or vegetarian eaters. Also, the meals included in the meal plan average out to be above $9 a meal! Much better off eating at restaurants around the city or cooking yourself.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are very old and run-down, but the newer ones are OK. (Much more expensive) You would be better living off-campus.

    Academic Rigor

Many general ed classes taught by teacher's assistants who do not care much about teaching or challenging students. It is fairly easy to keep above a 3.5 without doing much work.

    Tips for prospective students

Join a group or club; there is a very large student body and it is easy to get swallowed up.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is a great place for college students looking for a small town and a large Greek Life scene. It is not a very good fit for those who want to be challenged academically. Tuition and fees are very cheap but the dorms and meal plans are expensive for the low quality you get.

    Campus Safety

Here at UK safety is important. We have safe cats which are security personnel that walk you back to your dorm if it is late at night, we have busses that are on duty 24/7 that will take kids back to their dorms, also we have the cat's path which is a path for kids to take late at night that is supervised 24/7, and lastly we have an e-mail system that sends out e-mails to students anytime that there is something to be aware or cautious of.

    Greek Life

As stated in a recent question, greek life here at UK is huge! Almost everyone on campus is in either a fraternity or sorority. They make being a college student fun, and exciting, not just a constant struggle of studying and making it by.

    Clubs and Activities

UK offer so many clubs and activities, one being CSF which is a christian fellowship that is for kids who find religion important and makes learning about God fun and interesting.

Great for these types of students

Students that want to go into the engineering or the medical field would be great for UK because these two careers are the most prominent at UK and the courses for them are designed to prepare you for anything you may face in those fields.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One unusual tradition on campus that most schools do not get to experience is the Erruption Zone. Yes most schools have a pep club, but nothing like UK's. The Erupption Zone is filled with madness and excitement no one has every witnessed before and makes watching the UK wins so much more exciting!

    Bang for the buck

I do think that you get a lot of bang for a decent buck, but being from a poverty stricken area, it is hard for me along with most kids to attend UK because tuition is more than we can afford and financial aid doesn't cover the full cost.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do for fun and one major one is greek life. UK is huge on greek life. Not only that, but it's also known for it's fantastic basketball team in which watching from the Erupption Zone is a dream that very few get to witness.

    Food and Dining

Very great dining, and very great picks on fast food services.

    Dorm Life

I, living in the oldest dorm on campus, was not too impressed, but there are a lot of new dorms going up so I know that in no time, all the dorms will be top of the line.

    Academic Rigor

I would have to say that the academics here are a little tougher than other schools. Especially for the medical and engineering programs, but it's understandable because they are important fields in which potential employees need to know the ins and outs of.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students is to NOT be shy, intimidated, or scared when it comes to asking questions that they may have. No question is too dumb when it comes to being a new student on such a large campus. We know it's challenging at first and that's why everyone is willing to help. We have been there, done that.

    In three sentences

When I first came to the University of Kentucky, I was a bit worried. Classes here at UK are a little rigorous, but with all of the help that the University provides and offers, you can excel in any subject. Now that I have gotten a semester under my belt, I feel much more comfortable and able to succeed.

    Bang for the buck

Good school, decent food, and plenty of social activities available for students. Not cheap but about the same as other like schools. LOTS of educational options if you want to change majors.

    What to do for fun

Go to movies on campus and sports events. Just hang out with friends.

    Food and Dining

Pretty good but always have snacks in room.

    Dorm Life

Love Keeneland Hall. Living on campus is very limited because there are so many students but have will be living on campus my sophomore year too as mentor.

    Academic Rigor

Have nothing to compare to but I believe it is pretty hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved and make use of the tutoring programs. Attend classes.

    In three sentences

    What to do for fun

Exercise, go to the library, and meet people. It is a huge campus, but there is always something going on. You could take part in a sport.

    Food and Dining

The food is good if you go to the healthy restaurants, otherwise you will gain the freshman 15 for sure. I prefer not eating on campus, just so I can save money.

    Dorm Life

The dorm I lived in was not to health standards. The halls and bathrooms were never cleaned. The maids just sat around and talked all day.

    Academic Rigor

I was surprised at how challenging the University of Kentucky is, but it is a good learning experience. If someone tells you public universities are easy, do not believe them.

    Tips for prospective students

If you cannot handle a lot of people, you will need to pick a new college. There are a lot of students at this university. I would make sure to bring clothes for every season.

I would say that the University of Kentucky is good if you are from Lexington and want to stay close to home. It does not have much extra value.

    Campus Safety

UK's campus, although big, is very safe. The UK police does a good job keeping students and parents informed through UK Alert. They also like to make sure students are not left walking around alone on campus at night. For example, rides are given back to your dorm at night from the library. I have never felt unsafe on campus.

    Greek Life

Although I am not part of Greek here at UK, many of my friends are, and I would have to say that UK is a great place if you are interested. With so many sororities and fraternities to choose from, you are bound to find one that is just right for you.

    Clubs and Activities

The Center for Community Outreach is a great place located in the Student Center that provides ample opportunities to get involved at UK.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student that likes to get involved and like basketball, UK is for you. I feel like I go to school with thousands of my brothers and sisters.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Depending on who you ask, there are so many different traditions and legends about UK. One that I was told about when I was a freshman was, if you rub the Patterson Statue's foot before you final exams, you would do well!

    Bang for the buck

I wouldn't change where I went to college for anything.

    What to do for fun

UK provides many opportunities to have fun, whether it be catch a movie, see a concert, play pool, participate in a water balloon fight, and more!

    Food and Dining

The food locations are convenient for students living in the dorms, however if you do not live on campus and have a flex or plus account, it can be pricey buying yourself lunch everyday.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is an experience I would recommend for everyone, even if it is for just one year. You really get to learn more about yourself and develop responsibility, all while living in a safe environment.

    Academic Rigor

This question is dependent on your field of study, but overall UK teachers are understanding and passionate about what they teach.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! UK does a very good job giving students ample opportunities for volunteer, leadership, travel, and more!

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky may be a big campus, but it has a small campus feel. People that attend UK seem to all have something in common that makes you feel at home. The environment here will make you a true UK fan (if you aren't already).

    Campus Safety

UK does a lot to keep its students safe. For example, there is something called the 'Cat Path' that goes all the way throughout campus. It is marked by giant blue paw prints and is lit up on both sides. This path has been marked as the safest walking areas on campus, and students are advised to stay on it late at night. UK also sends out text and e-mail alerts any time there is any sort of incident on campus that students should be aware of.

    Greek Life

I am a part of Greek life on campus and I absolutely love it! It keeps me very involved with the school and has given me so many opportunities that I wouldn't have had without it. A large percentage of this university is involved with Greek organizations and I strongly encourage people to consider joining it.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club or activity on campus for just about any interest that any student could possibly have, and if a group of students desire to create one, that is a possibility as well.

Great for these types of students

UK is great for students who like to be involved. There is always something going on around campus and there are so many people to meet. I truly feel that everyone has an opportunity to fit in somewhere at the University of Kentucky.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a restaurant on campus called Raising Cane's, that is not common in most states, so it is always a big topic around campus.

    Bang for the buck

As far as getting your 'money's worth', you definitely get it at UK. The University of Kentucky is not as expensive as most universities and it offers an abundance of free events to its students. The only thing I would consider to be over-priced is the cost of living in the dorms, because of the condition they are in.

    What to do for fun

There are very many different activities that take place on campus. Most of the sporting events are free for UK students with the presentation of a student ID. There are free movies every week at the Singletary Center, as well as many free plays and concerts around campus. For freshman, the dorms are all located in one area, so there are tons of people around, and there is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

The food at UK is amazing. I will admit that I was skeptical at first after coming from a high school cafeteria, but I was shocked at the great variety and quality of the food. There are four different dining halls that the meal plan will work at, as well as the student center which contains Chick-fil-a, Subway, Sbarro, and Panda Express. The meal plan also includes Starbucks.

    Dorm Life

To be honest, the dorms at UK are not in the best condition. They are very old, and it isn't hard to notice that they are. However, the janitorial staff does a fantastic job of keeping them clean and tidy. A perk of living in the dorms is that it is only about a ten minute walk to all of the classroom buildings, and about a three minute walk to the library.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, the difficulty level of your classes will vary. However, in any class, as long as you attend class, complete all assignments on time, and study/review your material, passing should not be a problem. The professors on this campus are willing to work with you and offer any help you need.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to prepare yourself for the amount of free time you will have in college. Unlike high school, you will only be in class for a few hours a day, and the rest of the time should be spent wisely. Take advantage of the William T. Young library and its resources! Also, I would strongly recommend living on campus, at least for freshman year.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky has a beautiful campus that is well-designed for students' convenience when it comes to walking. The atmosphere on campus is great, and there is always something to do. There is an abundance of various activities around campus that fit the interests of all students.

    What to do for fun

There's no time for fun; you have to study all the time. They tell you that they have on campus taxi service; but when you need them e.g. when it rains or when you have a late class across campus; everyone else wants them too so you have to wait.

    Tips for prospective students

    I would recommend the college.

    In three sentences

The campus is so pretty; that's why I wanted to attend college here. However, from an academic perspective, if you are not in a sorority, athlete on scholarship, or advance placement student, it feels like you are not a mainstream college student.

    Food and Dining

I'm a vegetarian and have few, if any options. Also, the quality of the food is very poor and there's not a variety.

    Dorm Life

Typical of most colleges -but you have to buy a meal plan if you live in the dorms, and a lot of the dorms are gross. But they are building lavish new dorms -for a price.

    Campus Safety

They've really taken care to keep the campus as safe as possible. If you don't feel 100% safe getting somewhere after dark, the ROTC cadets will come walk you back.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs that it's sometimes overwhelming. And if there isn't a club you wanted, it's easy to start one. I've seen everything from giant Greek organizations to a My Little Pony fan club and disk golf groups.

Great for these types of students

All types. There is a place for everyone.

If you rub the foot of the statue outside Whitehall, you'll ace all your finals. Or so the story goes.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

If you're bored any day of the week, you're doing something wrong. There's late night film series that has free movies Thursdays and Fridays, free comedy shows on Wednesdays, religious groups meeting on Tuesdays (and even if you aren't religious, they have free pancakes), and tons of places for you to go off campus with friends.

    Food and Dining

There are tons of places to eat on campus that are really good. My only issue is most of the places that accept meal plan swipes are in the same area away from a lot of the dorms and classrooms, so it's hard to make full use of those.

    Dorm Life

I've loved living in the dorms. They have fun events in the building, and you're always close to prospective study groups. The fix-it team is very fast in responding to any problems that come up as well.

    Academic Rigor

You'll definitely have to study and work hard, but there are free tutoring programs and professors will always help during office hours.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus your first year. You'll make more friends, and have more time to explore campus.

    In three sentences

It's a very physically beautiful campus. Every professor I've had has been wonderful, and very eager to make sure everyone learns and does their best. There's such a wide variety of things to do and people to meet, that the possibilities here are endless.

    Campus Safety

There is nearly always a safe route to take that is well lit. However, a large campus may have trouble monitoring all areas at all times. Therefore, something may easily go unnoticed. Furthermore, drunken behavior also promotes an atmosphere that is not safe.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is a great way to make friends and meet new people throughout the large campus. However, Greek life does not encourage members to remain true to themselves. Instead, it promotes conformity to fit in with the selected fraternity or sorority.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club and/or activity for interests in nearly anything. However, it is not easy to learn about these clubs. Therefore, not as many people get involved.

Great for these types of students

UK is great for students who like to meet new people. The large campus and attendance is great for meeting people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are too many to list! Check out the K-Week book when you attend freshman year!

    Bang for the buck

As any college university, tuition rates are very high. This should not be the case, but it is about as good as you are going to get at UK.

    What to do for fun

For fun I recommend going to parties hosted by fraternities, CSF, or simply friends around you. Find where you fit in and you will have fun no matter what.

    Food and Dining

The food is great! Chic-fil-a and Subway are favorites of mine. They are located in the student center.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very run-down. However, many new dorms which will be VERY nice are being built.

    Academic Rigor

Most college courses require students to take initiative in their education. Take it upon yourself to push yourself to learn as much as possible, and you will succeed. I think the academic rigor is average at UK.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not only study notes; study the book too! Also, do not eat 24/7, even if you want to. The freshman 15 does not flatter anyone. Lastly, get involved! It's a great way to meet people and it makes the experience better.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is what you make it. Get involved, push yourself, and socialize, because the opportunities are all there. If you do not choose to do any of those you are not making the best of your college experience.

Campus safety is pretty good. There are lit sidewalks and paw prints to let you know you are on a safe path. If there is a problem on campus or something reported, the students are notified immediately and the police are on it right away and step up security if needed to.

    Greek Life

I never joined the Greek life, but I know a lot of people who have, and they say it makes them feel apart of something. They meet so many people and they love it.

    Clubs and Activities

CSF is my favorite. It is Christian student fellowship, and they always have something going on. It is good clean fun with parties, free food almost always, talent shows, and just crazy fun people. There is a club more just about anything, and if there isn't one, you can make it. Most organizations put on events that are for the whole campus, so even if you are in that club, you can enjoy what they have to offer. There is always something happening on campus.

Great for these types of students

It is great for students who like to be involved. There is so much to do and so many clubs and activities. However, you do not have to be involved in these things, the options are just there. It is also good for people who learn better in bigger environments and from lectures.

Basketball games are a must, and there are tons of other great sports events to attend. There are horse races, movie theaters, and the mall is less than 10 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

I think the food is pretty good. They have lots of fast food restaurants on campus that you can chose from, but there are also places where with healthy choices and more of like a deli type place.

    Dorm Life

I started out in an apartment, so I never lived in a dorm. However, in hearing from my friends, they said that they loved getting to live right next to all of their friends. They also said that it made it easy to make friends and feel apart of campus.

    Academic Rigor

The classes can be pretty tough, especially the science classes. They expect you to know the material and do the extra work go get there. There are so many opportunities to get help and to understand the work. There are tons of free tutoring centers and of course office hours to talk to your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say to get involved as soon as possible. In the beginning, everyone is new and looking for more friends. The longer you wait, the harder it is going to feel to make friends and feel apart of campus. Also, please go to talk to your teachers. The sooner the better. Let them get to know you because they will be more willing to help you get a good grade I their class, and you will feel more comfortable asking them questions when you are confused or are having a problem with their class. Lastly, enjoy the city. It is beautiful, and there are amazing restaraunts and shops all around. There are also great parks to spend your time outside.

    In three sentences

I have loved my time here at the University. The campus is beautiful, and the sports (especially basketball) and student involvement/activities is what has made my time here so memorable. I love that the campus has a lot of people, but the campus buildings are fairly close together, so while you're walking to class, you almost always see someone you know. Also, you are not having to walk forever across campus to get to your next class.

It's also right on campus so classes are much more closer to you so you can walk to class rather than living in an apartment or house and having to drive or take the bus to campus.

They assign academic advisors to help you choose the correct path that's best for to achieve your major. Also they have a great virety of majors for students to choose from and a great staff of teachers to better your knowledge.

    Campus Safety

While there have been mugging incidents on or off campus, UK police is a constant presence. They recently just installed many emergency poles to quickly dispatch police to your location. There are also campus cruisers that can give you a ride if you're traveling across campus alone at night (say from the library back to your dorm). UK has a free bus service so you never have to walk far or wait too long for a ride. They also have the best-lit and most heavily travelled paths on campus marked with big blue paw prints that look like Blue's clues to help you pick the safest route if you are walking alone at night.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of UK. The fraternities and sororities here go beyond the stereotypical partiers and really help get involved with the community. They are a great way to meet new people, make great friends, get involved with intramural sports, and get involved in community service. Greek organizations also offer opportunities for job and internship connections and academic support. It is definitely worth at least giving a look into joining.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs and activities available for anyone. From student government, to political clubs, to club sports, there is something for everyone. If they don't have what you're looking for, there are easy ways to start your own club up.

    Bang for the buck

UK is really generous with scholarships if you apply for them. They have highly ranked academics and have advisers for any academic concerns you might have. Your tuition also pays for some medical coverage at the UK student clinic, academic support through multiple departments, and more. Compared to other public schools, especially with their higher scholarship offers, Kentucky is pretty affordable and gives back a lot.

    What to do for fun

Football season is all about tailgating and basketball season is all about cheering on your Wildcats! While sometimes it can seem like UK is like any other SEC school and all about their athletics, there are plenty of school-sponsored events on campus during the weekends. Musicians and comedians will roll through and have a show occasionally and every weekend there is a late-night movie screening right on campus. Lexington is a big city, so there are always things to do off campus as well.

    Food and Dining

UK offers a wide variety of dining halls, and within them plenty of choices so you never have to eat the same thing twice in a small amount of time. The food isn't too bad at the dining halls, either. There's always a Starbucks in close proximity, and big chains like Panda Express and Subway can also be found on campus.

    Dorm Life

While some dorms are getting up there in age, UK is currently working on building all new dorms. They offer both traditional dorms and suites. All freshmen are offered on-campus dorm housing. The dorms aren't too cramped; there's plenty of living and closet space. Classes and food aren't too far away, either.

    Academic Rigor

No matter what school you go to, college will always be harder than high school. Depending on your major, your new college classes may challenge you to think a lot harder and put a lot more work in. There are plenty of academic support organizations available on campus to help students with their academics, and Kentucky wants to see their students graduate in four years.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into joining a Greek organization when you get there. Greek life is a big part of UK and offers a lot of opportunities to meet new people and to get involved with community service. If it doesn't look like it's for you, get involved with K Week and find another way to get involved. It's a big school, so it is important to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people.

    In three sentences

A great school with emphasis on all academics, athletics, and community involvement. While it is a big school, it is easy to find the people you fit in with and make your own community within this large SEC school. Go, Big Blue!

    Bang for the buck

UK does a good job providing an affordable education.

    What to do for fun

Go dowtown! There's a lot to do and it's close to campus. The basketball games at Rupp are also really fun. Worsham Theater shows free movies every month abd there are always parties at CSF.

    Food and Dining

There aren't many dining halls, so you might get sick of the food fast, but there are a few restaurants on campus like chickfila and panda express

    Dorm Life

I love living in the dorms! It's a great way to meet new people and you're close to your classes, especially if you live on north campus.

    Academic Rigor

I went to a private high school, so the classes are pretty easy for me, but the engineering program is more challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry about choosing a major just yet, just focus on doing well on admission tests and you will be accepted into any major you want.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is what you would expect from a large state school. It has great athletics and okay academics, but it offers many different programs of study. The only exception is the Engineering college which is very challenging and competitive.

    Campus Safety

Awesome campus police and safety regulations. Felt pretty safe at all times.

    Greek Life

HUGE greek involvement.. If you aren't a part of it, expect to feel left out. Not very inviting and also a very segregated environment.

Great for these types of students

Great for people who learn well in large class size!

    What to do for fun

I studied day in and day out, but often went to restaurants around campus. Athletic events are also very fun here! Expect big crowds everywhere you go though- everyone seems to want to do the same things all at once!

    Food and Dining

Pretty good campus food! I recommend a lot of flex $ and definitely a plus account. Chick-fil-a was always my go to!

    Dorm Life

Don't expect your housing application to even be considered when it comes to your preferences. Housing is nice but some dorms are much older than others.

    Academic Rigor

Tough! large class sizes, professors who aren't very willing to help, and tough grading policies. You do learn a lot, but not necessarily very well!

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware of the large class sizes and keep it in mind in regards the amount of help you want to receive. Would definitely recommend a tutor.

    In three sentences

A huge school that doesn't really care if students succeed or not. Definitely builds character but not in a good way. Definitely for independent students who are used to large class size.

There are so many clubs and events at UK. K week is definitely one of the best weeks of the year. It's the week before classes start and there are tons of free food and tshirts. They serve free pancakes at midnight every night and you get to be a part of a world record setting water balloon fight. 12,000 people and over 200,000 thousand balloons!

    Food and Dining

I honestly can't even begin to tell you how good the food is here. I love it so much! its buffet style and they have everything you can imagine. The dessert is the best part!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are sweet! It's like a mini apartment. I have my own bathroom and that is one thing I really like. Everyone is super cool in my dorm and we have nice little coffee chats in the lobby every once in awhile. The visiting hours are 24/7, which is pretty cool too!

    Academic Rigor

The classes can be pretty big sometimes and that can make it challenging. but overall, the experiences I have had with my professors and my classes have been great. I play a sport here and I miss class more than the average student, but they are very understanding.

    Tips for prospective students

Branch out! Meet people and don't be afraid to get out there. There is so much to do and get into to. Getting to go to the world's largest water balloon fight is a plus too!

Great for these types of students

Students who appreciate a beautiful campus and library

    Bang for the buck

The dorms are small for the price and meal plans seem expensive as well. The tuition is averagely priced and I think its 100% worth it!

    What to do for fun

The late night film series is a fun way to spend time with friends and catch up on some movies you missed in theaters. The best part is that it's free.

    Food and Dining

Ovids, the cafe located in the library, is the place to eat at UK. The food is pricey if you don't have a meal plan though

    Dorm Life

I decided to live in an off campus apartment. Central campus dorms are luxurious and are reminiscent off a hotel. Though the dorms that I have seen that aren't in central are small and remind me of a cement box.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the class depends on the course and the professor. The class may be hard but the professors seem to really want you to succeed and they do their best to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus the first year! I am currently a freshman at the University of Kentucky and I am living in an off campus apartment. Though a apartment may seem like the more comfortable route, don't do it! Making friends and really getting the most out of your freshman year is essential, living off campus can hinder you from being able to do so.

    In three sentences

The campus is absolutely stunning and the library is breath taking. Everyone, teachers and students, who I have met seem to really care and are extremely friendly. I am absolutely loving my college experience so far.

    Campus Safety

Safety for students is one of UK's most fundamental attributes. We have SafeCats which are comprised of Air Force ROTC cadets who come to pick you up at night when you feel unsafe walking to a certain location. There is also the Cat's Path which have blue paws painted on the ground which are normally in well-lit areas.

    Greek Life

Panhellenic greek organizations have the most popularity, versus non-panhellenic which go under-rated. People tend to disrespect those chapters by saying they are not real sororities/fraternities, which of course is untrue. Greek life does however put you in a spotlight and does help you network with others around campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many types of clubs and activities to suit many different flavors, people. Rather you are into just Pokemon, or video gaming, and the most popular student government. All you have to do is go out and search for them, or even possibly start your own club. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING FOR YOU!

    What to do for fun

Football and basketball games tend to get the whole campus talking. The Christian Student Foundation throw the most AMAZING events (The World's Largest Water-Balloon Fight, Flapjack Friday). Also the Johnson Center (the gym) has rock-climbing, racquetball, walley-ball, and a host of other exciting activities.

    Food and Dining

There are many great places to chow down depending on how far you are willing to walk. However, going to Commons Market is where you can get the most bang, for a meal swipe.

    Dorm Life

Some dormitories are not worth the amount of money it costs to live there. I live in Blanding and paying an arm and a leg not to even have a decent shower.

    Academic Rigor

Well since I am only in my freshman year the course work is pretty tolerable. I am able to get things done in a timely fashion and have enough time to participate in other events.

    In three sentences

    1) Many student services that make college life a lot easier. 2) Doesn't offer many scholarship opportunities. 3) Great school if you can afford it.

    Campus Safety

The UK Parent Association has worked with the university to create the Cats Path (a safe visible walkway through campus) and other blue-light emergency phones. Security is always patrolling the campus. At night the William T. Young Library closes to the public and students must show their UK id to get in. Police frequent the different areas of campus as well and it's very well lit.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a huge outside organization. There are about 15 sororities and 10 to 12 fraternities that students can join. UK Panhellenic Council presides over the sororities and maintains high requirements of academics and service, as well as the Inter-fraternal Council for the young men in fraternities.

    What to do for fun

Lexington has a great culture of horse racing, Kentucky basketball, and dining. Keeneland horse track is open in the fall and spring. UK Men's basketball games are very fun to attend. Also there are many campus events, like the Student Actitivies Board which has hosted concerts in the past (Drake, Brantley Gilbert, or speakers like Anderson Cooper).

    Food and Dining

Meal swipes at UK make eating affordable. The meal plan has a variety of options to choose from like 10 meals a week to many more a semester. This is convenient when time is limited between classes.

    Dorm Life

UK is in the process of expanding dorms on campus. There are many suite-style dorms to choose from as well as the basics. Most freshmen live on campus, so it's a great way to meet people. Dorms occasionally host events with t-shirts and free food.

    Academic Rigor

The academic intensity at UK is very impressive. It is challenging and after conquering a course students retain that knowledge. Professors will push you to get you to succeed, it prepares students very well.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly encourage students to attend K-Week and look at on-campus activities and opportunities. There is extensive Greek life, academic clubs, intramural sports teams, living learning communities, and multiple help sources. Check out the Hub for technology help, the Study for tutoring or peer review, and the Writing Center for help with papers.

    Campus Safety

UK has upgraded their security systems to one of the best! There are cameras around various locations on campus, safer walking paths marked with cat paws, Safe Cats (student security officers) that will escort you to your destination if you ever feel unsafe, & a timely crime bulletin that is mass emailed to all students informing them of crimes happening on and around campus.

    Greek Life

There are many fraternities and sororities on campus. They have a great unity among their peers & also are involved in philanthropic events. You gain so many friends and business connections for the future. Greek Life builds quality character & everlasting strength.

    Clubs and Activities

It seems that almost every major has some type of club or organization that students can sign up for that will give them more experience beyond the textbooks. These clubs are great for building your resume! Even if you don't play on an official college sports team but you want to be involved with sports, the Johnson Center workout facility has teams that you can create with your friends & verse other teams within the university. Many of these clubs are involved in philanthropic events & not only are you building your resume, but you are going to be leaving your mark on the Lexington community & even other countries!

Great for these types of students

Join Greek Life or other clubs/organizations if you are the type to get homesick in a new environment! These friendships & connections will keep your mind busy & will make you feel like you are surrounded by a second family. These organizations help you discover your passions & get you involved in the community! Also, go to The Study if you are hungry for knowledge or need a little assistance in your class. There are tutors in every field that specialize in the areas you are having trouble with that provide you with quality service & guaranteed results!

You have to rub the Patterson statue foot if you want some extra luck on your exams! Don't walk through a certain archway by the presidents house if you want to pass your finals! There is a post office in the basement of Whitehall Classroom Building that is very convenient for student use! A few buildings are connected by underground passage ways if you want to avoid the weather & save time!

    Bang for the buck

Meal plans save you loads of money if you plan on eating on campus frequently. They are budget like cards that are bought at the beginning of the semester that give you a certain amount of swipes or meals per week. In addition, renting your books rather than buying can save you money since most books will be ones that you don't plan on keeping for the future. However, if you buy your books, you may be able to save money by selling them back if they are in good condition or if it is a book that is popular among students that the bookstore sells out of quickly. Purchase your athletic event tickets by showing your student ID to the ticket counter! You will be sold tickets at student prices which is usually 5 dollars! Can't beat it!

    What to do for fun

For fun you should definitely attend sporting events, especially some Wildcat basketball! The Big Blue Nation welcomes all, & we hold an honorable legacy! You should also test your luck at Keeneland from time to time. There you will see the beautiful horses, eat delicious food, & you may win some earnings from your race bets! Don't forget it's a fun day for the finest fashions & big, floppy hats! Take a drive to the Fayette Mall for a shopping experience to remember! Food and Dining

The University of Kentucky has dining in all areas of campus. There is a common eating area on south and north campus that provides a buffet of various types of food. The student center on north campus has a few franchise restaurants such as Subway, Sbarro, Panda Express, etc. You will also find various cafés in different school buildings that serve everything from breakfast, snacks, lunch, & dinner depending on the time of day. UK offers a variety of food that will satisfy most tastes.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is an experience everyone should have. There are suites & standard rooms, along with residential advisors who assist in providing good tips and security for your floor. Make friends with the students on your floor, you never know when you may need them for favors or advice! Being in a dorm will give you a sense of community & belonging. Be open minded when moving into the dorms & know that anything could happen! I guarantee you will make at least a few lifelong memories while you stay in the dorms. The dorms will also help prepare you for what it's like to live in an apartment, house, town home, etc in the future! Responsibility & respect are important for your dorm experience to go smoothly.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are designed to challenge you, test your patience, make you think outside the box, & shape you into a young professional. Certain classes require more studying than others, but they all encourage attendance & detailed note taking in order to receive the results you are striving for. There are wonderful study tools and tutors on campus that provide extra help for the students who seek it. If you are dedicated & have ambition, no class should be extremely difficult!

    Tips for prospective students

Students should prepare to gain a surplus of knowledge, a loving home away from home, and an experience that will prepare them for a successful future. Before deciding to attend the University of Kentucky, research your major & decide if the courses offered are going to best prepare you for your coveted career. Always try to make friends with people in your classes! These people will be beneficial to your exam preparation through study groups & even when you need to release stress, you can go out & explore the best of Lexington!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are lots of unusual traditions that are on campus. When you come to campus for you first time, you will receive the K Book that is filled with all of them. A very helpful one during finals week is that you rub the Patterson Statue's foot in front of POT for good luck!

    Bang for the buck

Although going to the University of Kentucky is very expensive, I personally feel that it is worth it. For example before classes start we have K WEEK, and I promise to you if you participate in the events during the week you will walk away with at LEAST eight FREE t-shirts! What college student doesn't like t-shirts?

    What to do for fun

There is really always something happening on campus. Pay attention to signs posted around campus, and follow different organizations on Twitter, and that will really help you get informed about what is going on. This year we had Nev Schulman from Catfish come to campus and that was SO MUCH FUN!!!! And don't forget about UK BASKETBALL!!!!!!

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is very good. The one thing that I don't like is the best dining places to eat are on North campus and I live on south campus. When you go to Ovid's in the library and don't know what to order, get the grilled cheese with bacon!

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is a very fun experience. You become very close with the people that live on you floor and meet lots of new people. If you become involved with your dorm when they host different activities, you become even closer with those people.

    Academic Rigor

The classes vary from class to class. Some are more difficult than others, you should just prepare for anything. Also you should pick you battles. Some things are more important than others and need more of you time than other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Prepare yourself! This campus is very big and you are literally only a number when you first attend. Join clubs and get involved, it really makes the campus feel a lot smaller.

I would give the University of Kentucky FOUR stars. For the most part it is a welcoming campus, and lots of people are there to help you.

    Campus Safety

Safety is definitely improving with more campus police patrolling and several new call boxes placed strategically around campus.

    Greek Life

Greeks may seem like they are everywhere on campus, but they actually only make up 25% of the student population. You don't have to go Greek to get involved, but I suggest rushing if you aren't from Lexington to at least meet people - even if you don't join.

    Clubs and Activities

There's something for everybody from Homecoming to Pokemon to Greek life.

Great for these types of students

EVERYBODY! Very diverse campus! Students from every county in the state, just about every state in the country, and numerous countries around the world go to UK.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rub President Patterson's foot in front of Patterson Office Tower for good luck during finals!

    What to do for fun

The Fayette Mall, movie theaters, bowling and great downtown stores/bars are all within 10-15 minutes max driving distance. You can get away from campus, but always be close.

    Food and Dining

You have the greasy options and the healthy options at Blazer and Commons: buffet style places to eat on campus. The Student Center also features many well-known chain restaurants like Panda Express and Chick-fil-a.

    Dorm Life

The older dorms are definitely full of ghost and other classic dorm stories, but UK is building so many new suite-style dorms that it's basically like living in a hotel!

    Academic Rigor

Classes are as hard as you let them be. The professors care about their students being successful, but you have to want to try and want to learn in return.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus in October - you'll see how big and beautiful the campus truly is before it's a little too chilly. Don't count UK out if you are from Lexington or a surrounding area: it can easily be your new home [somewhat] away from home!

    In three sentences

Not everything is about basketball, but not everything is about living up to being a research university either. It is a challenging university with countless opportunities for students to get involved and succeed now as well as after graduation.

    Campus Safety

In my time at UK I have only heard of a few campus issues, all of which we're handled by campus security extremely quickly as well as an alert was sent to all students.

    Greek Life

I was not active in the Greek community.

    Clubs and Activities

I really enjoyed the Club a Rugby team. There are many sports clubs that are fun but not near as demanding as traditional college sports.

Great for these types of students

UK is really versatile. Our campus offers options for the creative, the numbers oriented, even theatre and ROTC.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I love the atmosphere of college game day located in front of the William T. Young Library. It is a UK tradition and highly enjoyable event.

    Bang for the buck

As a university I feel that the education I am receiving is well worth the money. I am a Caucasian girl that would really hope for more scholarship options so to reduce future student loan obligations.

    What to do for fun

Kentucky basketball is always the first that comes to mind. As students you participate in the lottery to get tickets and the lottery itself is always fun. Tailgating for the football games is fun filled with corn hole, and Bar-b-q.

    Food and Dining

The University of Kentucky has so many dining locations and food options it can at times be difficult to decide. I have never been Ina campus that has more options at such convenient locations. I love Blazer Hall.

    Dorm Life

I enjoyed dorm life, and would highly recommend freshmen to live on campus their first year. My troubles in school started when I was further from campus and classes. I made quite a few friends and was very glad to step out of my shell.

    Academic Rigor

I have a great abundance of academic rigor. As of the Fall 2013 semester I have been enrolled with a new beginning. I went from getting kicked out to returning three years later and accomplished a 3.25 GPA for the semester.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips would include living on campus Freshman year, I believe it is well worth it. I also would suggest taking advantage of being young and try all sorts of courses that peak your interest because I find it really helpful to picking the perfect major. Participate in clubs, they will expand your connections and friends.

    In three sentences

I am highly satisfied with the University of Kentucky. My only dislike is having Teaching Assistants for instructor. I am a returning student who finally found her future that begins at UK.

    Campus Safety

    I generally always feel safe.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs on campus, ranging from religious to social to sports and back again.

Great for these types of students

Students whom are looking for expanding in a scientific field will definitely appreciate this university.

    Bang for the buck

It is a pricey state university but it is definitely cheaper than a private university or college. You definitely get what you put in.

    What to do for fun

There are a slew of organizations, clubs and sporting options on campus. There are also many options within walking distance.

    Food and Dining

The food is menial at best but if you live on campus and have a meal plan I would definitely utilize the many places on campus to use them.

    Dorm Life

Depending on your location your dorm life can be either excellent or dreadful. I live in one of the oldest buildings on campus and while it is a bit..gross I cannot complain too much. My roommate and I are friendly (for the most part) and I have no problems with everyone on the floor. However, dorm life isn't for everyone.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are definitely up to par, you will always get out what you put in. Of course with everywhere some professors are more apt to teaching than others. However, there are always a slew of teaching assistants to assist you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to make new friends. University is all about creating new relationships and learning new things; do not be afraid.

    In three sentences

The University of Kentucky is an interesting university to say the least. Set in the middle of Lexington, Kentucky, UK is practically just a walk away (depending on how far you're willing to walk). The university is full of integrity and honor.

    Greek Life

I LOVE MY SORORITY. It's a huge part of why I didn't look to transfer after my freshman year, and I can't imagine UK without it.

    What to do for fun

Keeneland, tailgating, shopping, eating, and exploring! There's tons of things to do on campus and off, from the Arboretum and Red River Gorge,

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty much the same at UK run dining facilities, and it's not that healthy for you. The large dining halls are also overpriced - it's a swipe or $10 for all you can eat, which is nice if you eat a lot, but if you're just trying to get a bagel, it's a total waste.

    Dorm Life

Not bad, not great. It all depends on what dorm you live in.

    Academic Rigor

It's difficult if you want it to be, but you can make it easy on yourself too.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware of the money involved with school. Textbooks, food, dorms, extracurriculars, computers, and other supplies add up on top of tuition.

    In three sentences

A great student body that balances school spirit, academics, and fun! There's nothing like cheering on UK athletics, but you know where to find everyone come exam time. I especially love the people I've met in Lexington.

It's great, I see cops drive around all the time. There's SafeCats who will come pick you up in a golf cart if you're in a dark area of campus and it's late, buses run a lot, they do have specific routes they have to follow.

    Greek Life

I honestly don't know a thing about this other than I know it exists on campus!

    Clubs and Activities

I think I explained this somewhere? But join join join whatever it is you think you would enjoy most! Don't join too many though because the responsibilities may get in the way of your coursework!

Great for these types of students

It's honestly great for anyone, I know there's some partying on campus but I've never felt compelled to go to one so if you're a quiet studying type it's definitely for you too!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

K Week? It's the kickoff week for freshman the week before classes start. To be honest I just went to the first day and didn't attend any other events other than the ones that gave me free t-shirts. (You get a lot of those your first few weeks!) Um, the 5th floor of Willy T is where you can get a date... There's a lot of different things you learn your first few weeks, it's part of the experience!

    Bang for the buck

The people, the atmosphere, the courses and professors, I just love this campus. I could not see myself anywhere else!

    What to do for fun

Walk around campus and look at the artwork, go to Willy T and meet people! If you go downtown there's a lot to do and if you go to the mall area there's even more! I usually spend my time in Willy T or in my dorm lounge area, if I want to go out I would go to the mall, see a movie, (there's this theater called Cinemark Movies 10 but with your student discount tickets are only 4.75) I really love Lexington and all it has to offer!

    Food and Dining

Your choices are definitely not limited, Blazer Cafe is where I eat the most and they accept meal swipes! Your plus account is accepted almost anywhere around campus, and you can usually get discounts. The student center has chik fil a, subway, and other places and they accept your Flex and Plus money!

    Dorm Life

I love the people that work in my dorm and everyone I've met while living there! It's a great experience.

    Academic Rigor

I did a lot of AP in High School but diving in University life was still completely different. They don't care if you come to class or not, you're paying for it regardless so I would recommend going.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to go here and you want to meet people, go check out all the student organizations that you may possibly be interested in. Live on campus if possible, it's great meeting people and making friends in your dorm. Prepare your schedule before you're able register for classes! If you're an incoming freshman and you know your major, get your required core classes out of the way and if you think you can fit in something for your major, go for it! Don't take too many hours, 14-15 is probably best if you're a working student, 17 I would say maximum but you are allowed to take up to 19. Don't overwhelm yourself.

    In three sentences

UK is very open to student diversity, I've never met anyone who hasn't been open to opinions. They have many great clubs and several student organizations to get involved in and doing so really helps when meeting people you'd want to call friends. (Also Fraternities and Sororities) It has bad parking, this is the only downside to going there, but if you're willing to catch a bus or walk then it's perfect for you!

    What to do for fun

I don't know, because I work full-time while going to school, so I don't have time for extra-curricular activities, but it seems like there is a lot to do.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of options for food, not only on campus, but also in the surrounding neighborhood. Pretty much anything you can think of. The only downside is it's a bit more pricey than it should be for student meals. The hospital cafeteria has good prices, so sometimes I go there.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, so I don't know.

    Academic Rigor

Some of my classes have been overly easy, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to a little more challenge.

    Clubs and Activities

There is almost too many for the universities own good. Literally there is a club for everything whether its rock climbing to ultimate Frisbee to underwater basket weaving.

Great for these types of students

University of Kentucky is great for those students who are looking for opportunity in any field. There are numerous activities and possibilities that can set you on your ideal career path.

    Food and Dining

The food at UK is surprisingly good. The spicy beef wrap at ovid's could possibly change your life. In addition to the 3 main dining locations for students there are also restaurants like panda express, chik-fil-a, and subway on campus that can be worked into your meal plan.

    Dorm Life

Definitely not the greatest. Its a very small room you share with someone else. The good news is there are tons of apartment complexes designed for students that are located minutes from UK's campus.

    Academic Rigor

These classes in your major will push you but if you put forth the effort you will get through and be able to maintain a good GPA

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fall behind early in your classes. You may be able to get away with it freshman year but eventually you will hit classes that you will not be able to catch up and your GPA will suffer. Get involved. College isn't fun sitting in your dorm room.

    In three sentences

The university of Kentucky is three things. Big, busy, and challenging. I say big to describe not only the universities size but the opportunists that abound at UK. whether its career fairs to set you up with internships or scholarships to make your education cheaper. When I say busy I'm not just talking about your course load and the amount of homework you will have. I mean to say there is always something going on. Whether it be a basketball game, fraternity meeting or study session. Now to my final point challenging. Yes you will be challenged and pushed in your courses and major but you will also be pushed as a person to grow and reach your true potential.

    Campus Safety

It is to my understanding that the University of Kentucky is number 4 on the top 50 safest colleges/universities in the nation. I could not agree more with that. I have never felt endangered on this campus and even if I did, the emergency phone stations are all over campus and I am confident that the campus and/or local law enforcement officials would be on the scene if an emergency were to take place.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is large here. We have 13 sororities and 21 fraternities and although that may seem like a lot, there are tons of other things to do and other crowds to associate with across campus.

    Bang for the buck

My tuition, with my KEES scholarship, is $3999 per semester. That doesn't take books or my living expenses into account but for the beautiful life that I have here, I'm getting quite the deal. You can't put a price on the experiences of a Kentucky Wildcat.

    What to do for fun

The University of Kentucky's Student Activity Board ensures that the students here have something fun to do at any given moment, whether it be a free movie night at the Student Center or a main stage concert on the weekends for a VERY good price. K Week is a campus wide week-long event and open to all students. There are free giveaways and endless opportunities to meet new people all week long. Students here have opportunities to branch out and have great experiences, no matter where they are on campus. Also, the University of Kentucky is located in the heart of Lexington, KY so there are millions of things to take part in throughout the city. With Rupp Arena, home of our Wildcats, less than a mile from campus, cheering on the Big Blue Nation is very easy and highly recommended. The student ticket prices for our men's basketball team are unbeatable and the games are something to remember. It's impossible to be bored here.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls across campus are surprisingly delicious. One would think that they would taste like cafeteria and give people food poisoning, but that is not the case. The food is gourmet at certain dining halls and there are food stations in almost every building, if not all of them.

    Dorm Life

I lived in one of the older: residence halls. For the amount of time that it has been around, it would be easy to assume that it was filthy inside. It was to my surprise to see that it was actually extremely tidy and well-kept. the university is now making plans to tear it down, along with more of the older residence halls, to make room for new and improved areas of living. Making its students comfortable is clearly one of the main priorities of this administration.

    Academic Rigor

As a sophomore, I've had my fair share of classes. It never fails that my professors push me to my limit and challenge me to do my best work. My major of Elementary Education is seen as simple and unchallenging by my peers. They do not take my classes, so they do not understand. Regardless of the major that one chooses, it is guaranteed that the professors at the University of Kentucky are going to teach to their hearts' content and until the material they cover is mastered.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to get a feel for campus through the official visits that the university offers, as well as to take tours on their own time throughout the various seasons of the year. Walking through campus in the fall is far different than walking through it in the winter.

    In three sentences

Deciding to attend the University of Kentucky was easily the greatest decision I have ever made. This is a top-tier institution with much more to offer than meets the eye. The rating I choose for my school is off the charts and is simply too high to measure.

    Campus Safety

There have been a lot of minor incidences since I started here. We have our own police force, but not very many of them are on duty at night, and that's when things usually happen. There have been robberies and indecent exposure semi-frequently in the last year, but a lot of that comes from the fact that UK has an open campus. There were shots fired near campus a couple times, but not on it. There was also a report of one girl being raped this year in her dorm, but it was by someone she brought in with her. The dorms all have doors that automatically lock, and you have to swipe your ID to get in if you live there. You have to check in any guests, and they leave their IDs in case anything was to happen. The other buildings on campus have similar restrictions after normal hours. There is a service that will have someone drive you back to your dorm if you're out alone at night, and you can always call them if you feel uncomfortable out by yourself. I, myself, have never felt unsafe on campus, but I know that things have happened to other students.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in Greek life, so I can't say much about it, except that some organizations are good and some are not. You have to be careful about which one you choose. For sororities, it's mostly pretty good, except that some have reputations for being promiscuous or big partiers. For guys, there is hazing; they say there isn't, but they lie. I lived in a fraternity house that the university reclaimed because SAE got kicked off campus for 2 years for setting someone on fire, and there were cages in the basement where they would haze the rushes. It's amazing what they have to do if they want to get their girlfriends letters or a ring.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities on campus that you can get involved in, and if we don't have the one you want, you can make your own as long as you have a faculty supervisor to vouch for you. There are academic clubs, ethnic clubs, pre-professional clubs, stomp teams, club sports, and we even have ultimate frisbee.

Great for these types of students

Students who don't need a lot of personal attention will love it here. You can always get help from either teachers or peer tutors when you need it, but the teacher doesn't bother with making sure you're doing everything. The anonymity is especially nice if you learn better on your own and don't want to come to class all the time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the world's largest water balloon fight during K Week (first week of class).

    Bang for the buck

I think it's really expensive. I'm pretty sure it's the most expensive public school in the state, but it's also the best quality as far as professors and the education you receive.

    What to do for fun

There's quite a bit to do here. In spring, there's Keeneland, which is a horse race track. We have a movie tavern on Richmond Road. Typical bars and clubs downtown. Bowling, new trampoline park. If you just want to stay on campus, there's a rock wall in the Johnson Center, and the Student Activities Board always has something going on. There's also Comedy Caravan on Wednesdays and free Late Night Film Series showings on Thursdays and Fridays, generally. There are other events that go on sporadically, and there are always posters up everywhere. There's no excuse to get bored here.

    Food and Dining

It depends on where you go on campus, but most of the food is pretty good everywhere. The buffet on south campus (Commons) isn't great, but you can get as much food as you want. The rest of the restaurants that are UK run are pretty good: there's one at the library (Ovid's), a cafe in the Business building (Blue Chips), another buffet on north campus (Blazer), and one in the student center (Ovid's Express). There are also chain places in the student center (Subway, Chik Fil A and Panda Express). Additionally, there are several places close to north campus that are easily accessible (Arby's, McDonald's, Jimmy Johns, Pazzo's, Cane's, Fazoli's, Smashburger, Jamba Juice, Firehouse Subs).

    Dorm Life

Again, it really depends on which dorm you're assigned. There are some new dorms that are pretty recent and some that are going up right now, but the older dorms (Blanding and Kirwan dorms) are not so great. The new dorms are suite style, so you don't have to share your bathroom with so many people, and the furniture and halls are quite nice. The older dorms are small and the furniture isn't so nice, the walls are really thin, and you have to share bathrooms with the entire floor.

    Academic Rigor

I think it really depends on what classes you take, and what major you choose, but my classes are fairly difficult. In my upper-level courses, I've never had an experience where I could just drift through. You have to be actively engaged in your classes, and a lot of them require attendance regardless, so it's not that hard. The challenge of the work doesn't bother me because I know I'm getting a quality education in return.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in a club, sport, or other activity. UK is a large school, but being involved in something smaller makes it not so daunting. Additionally, making friends and networking are always a plus when you come to college.

    In three sentences

For a Kentucky university, UK is quite large. It can be overwhelming here if you are not the type of person to speak up and be heard because there are simply so many people, especially in the entry-level courses. Academically speaking, it is a good school with good programs and many teachers that are willing to work with you, so as long as you can get involved and learn how to stand out a bit, you will be just fine here.

    Food and Dining

I haven't been on campus much to get a feel about the food or dining, but I have been to the student center and the food needs to be revamped with more choices.

    Dorm Life

I have met my roommate and I have been texting her since the day I received my room assignment. I believe that we will be great friends because we have a lot in common. Hopefully I will make many friends in my dorm because I am in the Engineering LLP.

    Academic Rigor

I haven't been to my first class yet but I hope that the course are challenging and help me to stay focused.

    In three sentences

I can't wait to live on campus in the new Champions Court 1 dorms. I am so excited to be in the Engineering Program and for the people I will meet. To me UK will be the place where I will love and call home.

    Campus Safety

The campus has their own police force. All throughout campus there are emergency set ups that all people are welcome to. Just press a button and the police are there to help. Safety Cats have a special path setup in all lighted areas. The JROTC have a program that will escort people to their dorms at night. Finally every student is advised to join UK Alert. This tells students everything important on campus, and focuses on emergencies.

    Greek Life

I would not know. All I know is the simple fact that it is offered, and many students enjoy it.

    Clubs and Activities

Something for everyone. There is even a squirrel watching club.

Great for these types of students

All students. The school is varied so it is open to all.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

K Week. This is a week that begins the school year. This allows students to become friendly, and kind of break the huge school atmosphere. It is full of activities which means free food and supplies.

    Bang for the buck

Use what you are paying for. Eat your meals on your dining plan, and go to a lot of events (free stuff). If you are lucky, John Calipari will pay for a semester of your schooling. Be smart. Budget your money, but focus on classes. They cost money so go to class, and do your best.

    What to do for fun

Basketball games! There are also plenty of activities. They even have a club for squirrel watching. Wander around campus and find the place that you like most. I am big on ending sexual violence so I am looking into The Green Dot association. The movie theater is right outside of campus. Various restaurants, coffee shops, and yes, bars are located right outside, or inside campus. The Johnson Center is the huge workout center that a lot of folks use to blow of stress, and taking strolls in the Arboretum is something that most students enjoy. Trust me, every student will find something.

    Food and Dining

Meal plans are expensive at any college, but you have to eat. At UK much is offered, and I doubt one could become bored of the cuisine. Just like to students, the food is varied. Look at the offered plans, and find out what you need. The decision is different for most people.

    Dorm Life

UK offers everything from the bare necessities to high class dorms. Many students (including me) are entering into Living Learning Communities. These communities offer suite, and apartment style dorms. They are nice, and only 1,000 dollars more on your total cost. Honestly, look into it. Figure out what is best for your life, and make an educated decision.

    Academic Rigor

This school is not for the faint of heart. Classes are different than high school simply because students must carry more responsibility. The staff will help, but free tutoring is also available, so make sure to take advantage of it. Do your best, and use what is given.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard. Working smarter is fine, but working hard is necessary. Paying for any college is becoming more difficult these days, but realize that it is alright. Do your best, and forget the rest :)

    In three sentences

The University is large, but they try their best to make it a homey experience. They are stingy with money (like most schools), but work is available. This university is meant for the responsible student, and academically,it is worth the money.
