Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think La Verne is great for any student. If you're looking to just party or want good sports teams, this is not the school for you. La Verne is known for it's academics and continues to excel.
Tips for prospective students Show the professors that you really care about school and your grades. Say you get a bad grade on a test, schedule an appointment and have them go over the test with you. When they know you make an effort they help you out a lot more and are easier on you when grading.
Bang for the buck The school is expensive, but you get what you put into your education. So it really depends on the individual, if you don't go to class you aren't going to get your money's worth, but if you do you will.
Am enjoying being here La Verne is such a beautiful campus. It is a small campus which is a plus, it makes buildings easier to find and the staff is so friendly and will point you in the right direction.
Am learning a lot The professors at ULV are amazing and so knowledgeable. All of my professors have been really approachable and helpful. They really want you to succeed in your academics.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Non religious students - Teachers and faculty often frown about religious activities that go on, on campus (this includes the campus chaplin) Non party students - La Verne is a dry campus which means there is no alcohol on campus. Non Greek life students - The fraternities and sororities do not have houses they live in. La Verne has a law against it therefore the Greek life is very unpopular at La Verne. All you care about is a good education without the help of your teachers - It is a good degree to walk away from La Verne with but do not expect a lot of help with it. Students who aren't interested in athletics - All of our sports teams are bad with the exception of the Girls Volleyball team.
Tips for prospective students Do not come to La Verne thinking it will be the normal college experience. This school is one that prides itself on being different. The good thing is that it is run not like any other school of its kind. The bad thing is it just feels like high school except you have to pay a lot of money to go to your classes.
Bang for the buck Grant it, I received a lot of financial aid to come here, but the standard price of $50,000 a year is not worth it at all. In comparison to every other private school in Southern California, La Verne has the plainest campus, the most uncomfortable dorms, worst classrooms, and teachers who even admit they don't like teaching at La Verne because they could be making twice as much at Cal Poly Pomona where students pay way less for their tuition.
Am enjoying being here I truly believe the last 3 months at La Verne have been the worst 3 months of my life. I can not stand being here nor can I stand the people on campus. I feel that I have made no valuable connections with anyone on campus with the exception of one girl who is transferring with me this upcoming semester.
Am learning a lot The one good thing about La Verne is the teachers will constantly be challenging you to work your hardest. With that said I don't believe the most of the teachers know my name let alone care about me as a person. Unlike most small private campuses, this does not make a connection with its students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Motivation for Academics, Love small campuses Have a lot of SPIRIT
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus, attend college preview weekend, spot light... and look into all the great Programs La Verne has to offer! Recommend the BUSINESS PROGRAM! Woot Woot
Bang for the buck Oh lord, tuition and room and board all together is quite expensive, but you sure do get the bang for your buck! You will not go wrong choosing La Verne its small rich community is so close together, the education provided to you is so great the professor to student ration averages out to be 19;1 how amazing can that be. Very!
Am enjoying being here The residence halls are awesome, although I am in the Brandt Hall as a freshman, you will find your place within all the students, coming from different demographics and learn a lot from each other. One thing I really dislike is the cleanliness of some of the guys, gosh...boys will be boys...but lord, do they need to know their limits on what is being a pig. Gaah I am so not used to this dirtiness lol
Am learning a lot It is an amazing University... you get to build such a close relationship with your professors. When I arrived on campus I felt like if I had never left home. Everyone is so warming and caring. Faculty and staff would what is possible to help you succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like to have small classes, get one on one with the teacher, and have the professors know who you are, then this school is for you! It's also a great place for people who want to learn an eclectic mix of everything.
Tips for prospective students The best advice from my experience is that you shouldn't be afraid to explore all your options before picking a major. I went through all my GE classes and found one that was so intriguing I stuck with it. Another piece of advice is to not be afraid of trying new things. Join or start a club that sounds interesting. You'll meet a ton of new people and it will make it that much more enjoyable.
Bang for the buck It is pricey, but I save a lot of money by commuting. The financial aid is a major plus. I would much rather pay this money and be in smaller classes, getting more one on one time with the professor than just being a number at a cheaper, public institution. All in all, it is definitely worth it.
Am enjoying being here I don't live on campus, so I don't know much about the dormitories. However, one thing that makes commuting a pain is the lack of parking spaces compared to the student ratio. Other than that, though, it is a beautiful campus, where the buildings are close together. All of the instructors I've had the pleasure of meeting like to be more than just a professor, and if you take the time to actually talk to them, chances are, they will help you out in the future.
Am learning a lot Every class I've taken here in my past two and half years has bombarded me with so much knowledge that I never expected to learn! The teachers are always approachable if you have a problem understanding a concept. One of the best things about classes here, too, is that the knowledge learned in one class can actually be applied in another class or even another field.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great if you're into a close-knit community and if you are looking for diversity. I've made friends with people from a large variety of backgrounds. This school is also great for students who are looking for a more intense learning experience and want to get the most out of their classes, I've become good friends with some of my professors and they will speak great things of you to other professors if you treat them well!
Tips for prospective students Put yourself out there and be open-minded to all types of people because you'll never who your closest friends will become! I've made all sorts of good friends that I never imagined being close with until I got to know them. If you are shy or have a hard time meeting people, joining a sorority or fraternity may be ideal because with my personal experience and from what I've seen from others, you can make deep and bonding friends from joining such organizations and be open to all sorts of opportunities. Go to the LEC if you are having trouble in a class, or go to your professor's office hours because these resources will help you a lot in order to succeed!
Bang for the buck Though I've had an overall amazing experience at the University of La Verne so far, I feel that the price of attending is much too steep and places a lot of stress on me and my family in order to go to this school, and without financial aid there is no way I would be able to attend it. I know that for a lot of other people, the cost of attending is stressful for them too and several of the friends I've made have transferred to other schools because the cost of attending was just too much for them. In addition, I feel that if the school is going to be so costly, it must give back the full benefits that students are expecting to obtain in all aspects, whether it be from having great professors, advisors, suitable living setups, and food. For me, the advisor I've had this past year was completely awful, and was never accessible, and never made me feel that she knew what she was doing or that she cared about me whatsoever. A friend of mine who has the same advisor has had similar struggles, and we both agree that the advisor is less than inadequate and gives the impression that she just wants to get through the day as easily as possible. As a result of having such a faulty advisor, my schedule for the past spring term was very unsatisfying because she quickly signed me up for classes that SHE felt were good for me, rather than listening to what I wanted for my schedule. However, after complaining to Academic Advising, I was able to change my advisor to someone who is much more knowledgeable about my major and hopefully will be much more professional than the previous one I've had. Despite the advisor troubles, the only other bad aspect about this school is the the food served in Davenport. Though for the upcoming year, there will be a new food company, and should not be as worrisome as the previous one, the prior one that I've experienced was pretty awful in that the food was half-heartedly prepared and served in a rush without paying attention to the quality of food. Having some friends who work in the food service at Davenport, I would ask them about what kind of food they are serving and most of the time they would not know or would have to guess because their managers gave vague responses or simply gave them a list of instructions on how to make the food. Most of the time, I would never leave the cafeteria feeling satisfied, or still hungry because I had no desire to eat the lack of selection of foods that were available or because the food that is available was not appetizing whatsoever. I would only eat the food and put up with it because I had already paid for it and didn't have much of a choice unless I wanted to spend money.
Am enjoying being here I have not only made wonderful friends with a variety of backgrounds at this university but I've also learned a lot about cultures and have become much more open-minded to people. I've also become much more extroverted since attending the school and I am not as shy as I used to be in high school.
Am learning a lot The professors at this university have been overwhelmingly helpful and accessible at all times and have taught me more than any of the past teachers I've had. All of my professors have been kind and patient and really make me feel that they care about me as an adult, and a student, and not just a random person that is enrolled in their class. I strongly feel that I will learn even more as I continue to attend this school and will make strong connections with my professors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is really safe on this campus even late at night., If you ever don't feel safe walking out of a night class you can always call campus safety and they will escort you to wherever you need to go!!
What to do for fun There really isn't much to do around the campus since it is a small city but there are plenty of events that take place on the school that are really fun like movie nights, games, and of course the parties. If you want to go out of town there are alot of shopping centers, theaters, and what not 5-15 mins away by car :)
Food and Dining You can eat at Davenport (which is the cafeteria) or at Barbara's Place (a cafe). They are both good places to eat. At Davenport they offer different varities of food that you will never get tired of. At Barbara's Place they have various snacks and have a Mexican girll which is really good!!! You have to try the carne asada fries!!! :D and if you ever do get tired of the food on campus right next to the school is old town La Verne (downtown) where there are plenty of good choice there too.
Dorm Life I love my dorm life!!! I dorm in Oaks and it's a really good building that comes with a lounge, kitchen, and AC/Heating. You can dorm in Stu Han, Brandt, Oaks, or Vista (which are the brand new ones). By dorming you really get the whole college experience. If you have a class at 8am you can wake up at 7:40 get ready in 10 mins and be able to make it to class on time since the campus is small. By dorming you are able to make friends faster and have so much more fun. I defintely reccomend it for your first year. :)
Academic Rigor La Verne is a really good school. The professors know the field they are teaching and are willing to ask any questions at any times. Since it is a small school with small class sizes they will learn your name in time. The professors teach so well and have office hours for thier students where you can ask them quesitons about the homework, class lecture, or just simply to talk to them.
Tips for prospective students Never be afraid to ask questions to the staff or faculty. They are always willing to help you out through anything.
In three sentences La Verne is a small college that offers a lot to its students. The staff and students are friendly. The campus is beautiful and small so you get a homey feeling when you're there.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who would like to spend more time socializing and partying than working.
Tips for prospective students Do tons of research and sit in on classes. This was not the right fit for me, but that does not mean it won't be for you either.
Bang for the buck I could not justify spending $40,000 a year for a lack of academic challenge. You attend school for an education-- if you're not being challenged, why pay through the roof?
Did enjoy being here The bonds I formed while at La Verne were strong. I did not connect with most people at the campus, but those that I did connect with will continue to be friends for years to come.
Did learn a lot I recently withdrew from the University of La Verne due to a lack of intellectual challenge. While most of the professors are kind, the academia is below par. I do not necessarily place the blame with the professors as the students are of below-average intelligence for the most part which calls for a lack of rigor.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It is a very expensive school to go to.
What to do for fun Joining Greek life would definitely help people have a lot more fun on this campus.
Food and Dining I like the food at Barbs because it really isn't that expensive and it's extremely delicious. As for eating in Davenport, I haven't eaten in there and I've heard that it isn't the most amazing food.
Dorm Life I don't dorm here. A couple of friends do dorm and say that it is a completely different experience because every night if you want to do something, then you can walk out in the hallway and find something.
Tips for prospective students Go to schools before accepting the application, tour the campus, and find out what scholarships or grants you can get before attending.
In three sentences Amazing small campus school that allows students to get the classes that they would like.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety at the University of La Verne is very easy to get a hold of. I constantly see them driving around in the golf carts. They also have a security guard where the off-site shuttle lot picks up students to take to the main campus.
Great for these types of students The University of La Verne is great for students that feel they learn more effectively in a small-classroom setting.
Bang for the buck I never thought that I would like school as much as I do while attending ULV. When I was in High School the motivation I had came from sports. Now, since I am not playing sports my motivation is Grad School. I am finding that my professors are very supportive and I know they want to help me get into a good school. Tuition is higher than I would like it to be which is also a huge motivation. I don't want to just get good passing grades, I want to get excellent grades. I work 40 hours a week to help my parents even with a small part of tuition and I'll gladly do it because I am sure that I am receiving an excellent education.
Food and Dining I eat at the Campus Center at least once a week and I find that their food is delicious. They have the best carne asada fries that everyone seems to love.
Dorm Life I personally don't live on campus but I have a couple friends that do, in fact live there, and when I've gone to their dorms I have a difficult time wanting to live because the environment is so laid-back and different than just living at home.
Academic Rigor Just like any other university, La Verne's education is not easy. If you want a good GPA you must work for it and there is no feeling more rewarding than to have a great GPA.
Tips for prospective students A huge top for a prospective student would be that when you go to college class interaction is very important and it is very challenging at first but you get to know everyone and it just feels like you're with friends.
In three sentences The University of La Verne is a great university to attend because the class sizes are small enough to be able to interact with everyone, especially Professors. I find that it is easier to learn in a small classroom setting. What I love most about ULV is their beautiful campus, how friendly staff is, and how everyone knows each other.

Academic Rigor classes are interesting and challenging. i always feel like i have improved after each term.
Tips for prospective students explore the school and talk to as many people as possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Fire department and police department is located right in front of the University, so you can feel completely safe.
Great for these types of students The university is great for determined students who want to get the best out of their education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a rock in front of the university. It started very small, but throughout the years the university has painted it according to club events and holidays. The rock have more than tripled its size.
What to do for fun We have many clubs that you can join. The university makes sure to come up with events for us to unload some stress when we need it. There are recreational parks nearby that you can also take advantage of.
Food and Dining The university is int he heart of old town La Verne. There are plenty of restaurants throughout campus. Food in the dining hall is delicious too!
Academic Rigor This school is not for you to slack off. The professors are on top of you to make sure that you are keeping up with your work and grades. There is lots of support from your academic advisers.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to make plenty of time for studying. Do not miss class or you will really fall behind. The professors are more than happy to answer any questions you may have, so do not hesitate to ask questions if your confused on anything!
In three sentences I transferred from a Cal State to La Verne, it was the best decision I could have made. The professors are extremely helpful, and the labs are very interesting. I can assure you, you will learn a lot here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety While attending ULV, I have never had to worry about the safety of my campus. Located right across the street of the campus is a Police and Fire department. Also one can always find campus security when their is a problem.
Great for these types of students I feel this school is great for students that like a small campus and like to interact with their instructors.
Bang for the buck Tuition is a little pricy, but if you like being in small class sizes, La Verne is the place for you. We have tutors available to us , and also professors that we can always communicate with. They provide us with their office hours and emails.
What to do for fun For fun their are numerous clubs that have different events throughout the school year. For example, they have had laser tag games and movie nights. There have also been Zumba nights at the campus center; magic shows and a hypnotist. There is something to do almost every week!
Food and Dining The cafeteria has various types of food and drinks to choose from. Each day they serve different types of cuisines, along with comfort food like pizza, hamburgers and fries. Also, the campus is surrounded by restaurants and fast food place, so one has a good chance of eating whatever they are craving.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms was an awesome experience! I had a chance to meet numerous people from different parts of the country and also from different parts of the world. The dorm rooms are very spacious; they have our beds, desks, chairs, lamps, bookshelves and separate closets. Also the dorms feel very secure; each student has their own key card to unlock the doors to enter the building.
Tips for prospective students For future students I strongly recommend that you finish your financial aid as early as possible. Also if you do become a student and are not sure of what you want to study, try and take different subjects that fulfill your general ed classes. By taking a variety of classes you will get to experience a little of different materials, and learn more about what you like and dislike in subject matter.
In three sentences I absolutely love being a student here at La Verne. The campus has a great faculty and staff that communicates with us college students. Also, the school helps one prepare for our future careers by providing us with the career center and also by providing us with tutors.

Food and Dining food is amazing, healthy, cheap.
Dorm Life I do not live on campus but i heard they have a bunch of night activities during the week for the residents
Academic Rigor the school and teachers are very accurate with the grades. Most teachers are very relaxed and help you get the best grade you can get.
Tips for prospective students Highschool is different than college, aim for high grades and do not get left behide.
In three sentences This University is a great school to attend to. It is a small private campus and everyone is friendly to you no matter who you are. It is so easy to make friends and fit right in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many things food places around the campus. There are also many clubs to have parties at, the LA county fair is also right across the street when it is open because of the Fairplex.
Food and Dining The food is very good since they have a buffet style food court.
Dorm Life I do not live in a door so it is hard for me to rate this, but from what I hear it is enjoyable even though you do not get very much sleep.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes such as sciences are very difficult but as long as you try hard and stay on top of your work the teachers are willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to stay ahead in your work because even though the professors and understanding and kind, they do not have any sympathy for procrastination. As long as you stay focused you will do good and enjoy the humor a lot of these professors have.
In three sentences If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet college then this school is for you. The professors are very nice and understanding. I am always able to get the classes that I am looking for.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Go to the clubs fair! Everything you need to know about clubs is there and there are a variety to chose from.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The rock is something everyone should know about. It is a tradition to paint it for special occasions.
What to do for fun For fun they set up many activities. Mostly all of them are at night so that people can make it after class and they have movie nights, karaoke, games, comedians and so much more.
Food and Dining Food and dining is something to get used to. Some days are good and other days are bad but it varies because not everyone likes the same thing, but there are basics like hamburgers and pizza. They also take into account if you are a vegetarian.
Dorm Life Dorm life is something new and exciting. It's fun and you learn a lot from just living with a variety of people. You build friendships that you can't really build living off campus.
Academic Rigor First semester of college might seem easier because you have a lot more free time than normal but the expectations are higher. And the quality of your work is a lot more important instead of just turning anything in.
Tips for prospective students Have an open mind when coming here and also know your values and morals because college definitely challenges you and you are the only one watching out for yourself.
In three sentences La verne is a small school that has a great welcoming community. From the start you feel like you belong. Its fun and there are many ways to get involved and make the most out of your college experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety All the ones that I have met are extremely nice and friendly. I have never felt unsafe at school.
Greek Life I feel like everyone on campus is part of Greek life, but that is obviously an exaggeration. I have no problem with Greek life exactly, but freshman year a couple of my friends joined and completely fit the stereotype of ditching our group of friends. So I'm also not exactly a fan of Greek life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a huge rock in the middle of campus that people paint to spread word of stuff, club information, and the like. Apparently the rock is more paint than rock.
What to do for fun Honestly, not much. There is rarely much going on on campus other than the first few weeks that start the school year off, which are full of movie nights and things going on. There is also a winter formal, which I went to my freshman year and was quite fun.
Food and Dining We have two locations for food on campus; a small cafe that serves mainly Mexican food, and a main dining hall. Because I am picky, I don't really notice any variety because I always go for the same thing. The dining hall is buffet style, and the desert is usually good.
Dorm Life I love living on campus, but I really don't participate in much of the activities that go on in my dorm. I did more my freshman year, but as I get busier the last thing I want to do in my free time is go do some activity. But that's just me, I still do like living on campus, and I have met some of my best friends by participating in activities.
Academic Rigor I feel like this really depends more on the student and the major chosen though. I've had some classes where I don't struggle at all and others that have been difficult. But I have had some amazing professors along the way that are immensely helpful.
Tips for prospective students The campus is small. As in it would take you, at most, 20 minutes to walk across the entire thing, and that is only if you are an exceptionally slow walker. So you're never too far from any of your classes, which is nice. The school is not as informative about when important documents need to be turned in, which is can be stressful.
In three sentences I really do love that it is a small school, because it means I know I'll see people I want to see everywhere and all the time. Hours for food and workout areas aren't my favorite. Some people complain about the dorms but I really like them and have never had a problem in that respect.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I read on their website that the crime rate on the campus is virtually nonexistent.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The rock that they paint over was amazing. It,s more paint that rock.
Bang for the buck It is a little pricey but the small classroom sizes make up for it.
Food and Dining The cafe is really good!
Dorm Life I've seen the dorms and they look comfortable. Considering I have not actually lived in the dorms I cant give a very good review on them .
Academic Rigor From my visit to the campus and various reviews I read the professors at La Verne really challenge you but are always there to help you out.
Tips for prospective students Don't procrastinate! nd ask for help if you need it.
In three sentences Its small and easy to get around. The campus is lovely and they keep improving it. The dorms are also nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus is constantly patrolled and the fire and police station are located right on campus. all students are notified if there is ever an emergency and everything is handled quickly.
Greek Life i am part of the greek life at the university of la verne. it is a big part of campus life and many people end up rushing and joining and organization. there are four sororities to choose from and two fraternities. there are also three local chapters of sororities and one local fraternity that recruit based on area and not campus.
Clubs and Activities there are clubs ranging from academic to extracurricular on campus. anyone that likes to be involved with defiantly find it here.
Great for these types of students the university of la verne is great for a student looking for a diverse campus. all of the students come from different backgrounds and happily share their culture with everyone around them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus has started being renovated for apperances. we have what is called a sculpture garden in the center of campus that is set off by a three story tall orange sculpture. next to this garden is the campus center which offers students a place to hang out and play pool, foosball, video games or just relax and watch tv with friends.
Bang for the buck if you are committed to your studies and actually seek out help when you need it then it is worth every penny you spend. it is expensive but the one-on-one with your adviser and professors helps.
What to do for fun there is a theater down the street from the school, and two malls down the freeway. off-campus fun is somewhat limited but the university has a constant trickle of events they host to keep students entertained including: concerts, comedy acts, movies, craft themes, faculty recitals, and student performances.
Food and Dining la verne has recently switched food vendors and the quality has gone up since i started here. they do have vegetarian options for students but the selection is limited. it is hit and miss when you go to the cafeteria.
Dorm Life i have had a great experience in the dorms. the oaks provides a small community of people to get close to, stu-han is an all girls dorm that is comfortable and very safe and brandt hall provides a foundation for friendship for all incoming freshmen. soon there will be new dorm opening up that gives students an opportunity to experience what having an apartment might be like.
Academic Rigor it depends on your major but once you begin taking nothing but upper level major courses the workload increases dramatically.
Tips for prospective students if you are considering la verne make sure you are smart about your finances. the school is expensive and the tuition rises a little bit each year no matter what promises they try to make. it is easy to get involved here and people are very nice to everyone they meet. if you do end up facing a hardship there are countless faculty that will sit down and talk to you about it.
In three sentences the campus is full of friendly and easy going faculty. the students are all highly involved in clubs and organizations. the campus is small and it is easy to get to class on time and to meet nearly everyone in attendance.

Categories Comments Campus Safety it seems like these guys are all over the place!
Greek Life active, friendly, always hosting events
Clubs and Activities large focus on sports with a close second of the greek life.
Great for these types of students psychology students students interested in greek life on campus and students focused on getting a great education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the university's greek life hold rock paintings. there is a large rock in front of founders hall and it continues to grow with layers of paint. at each rock painting the different organization paints the rock for the week. there is usually music, snacks, and friendly people at the rock paintings.
Bang for the buck it is a private university so it is expensive but i so far feel that it has been worth it.
What to do for fun i play volleyball as well as watch movies in the lounge. play pool and foo's ball in campus center. hang out with friends.
Food and Dining decent food, and convenient hours of opening.
Dorm Life this is my second semester on campus and i love it here. i live in the all girl dorms and it is like a family.
Academic Rigor i am in the psychology program, it is very welcoming and helpful.
Tips for prospective students plan ahead, get to know your professors, file everything you get from the university.

In three sentences the college is very small, and offers little extracurricular for students to become involved in. most of the professors do not have the time of day to spend with the students, and become angry when students ask questions. i would give university of la verne a 6 out of 10.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is probably one of the best. We have the city police department directly across the street from campus, which results in frequent driven patrols through campus. ULV also has their own security, which is frequently patrolling the campus and parking lots.
Greek Life Greek life is a major part of ULV. There are four sororities and two fraternities, which participate in and support each other. We do not have a greek row, but the close bonds that are made without a greek building, are even stronger.
Clubs and Activities There is always something going on at ULV. Whether its ASULV sponsored or a club meeting, there is some club activity occurring. If the club you want isn't on campus, starting one is super easy and there are usually five new clubs a year.
Great for these types of students Commuters, Greek life, serious academics, students who want to be near a big city.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Painting the rock is a big tradition/event at the university. Each club paints it throughout the year at night and its a big social event.
Bang for the buck The tuition price is steep. But there are benefits to the cost. There aren't issues with registering for classes, which is super important to getting out early or on time! There are a bunch of events on campus that are held for you and tutoring is included in your tuition so you never have to factor in additional funds just for help!
What to do for fun There are frequent activities on campus but there isn't much to do in the city of La Verne. But if you have a car, or a friend with one, there are tons of fun places to go within 30 minutes from campus. Victoria Gardens, the movie theater, Old Town Pasadena, Downtown LA, and Disneyland are perfect examples.
Food and Dining There is one dining hall and one cafe on campus. The food is good for cafeteria food but there is definite room for improvement. The cafe serves Starbucks coffee and their own version of Chipotle.
Dorm Life There are four dorms on campus (one is currently being built). The Oaks and the Vista are the two newest and best dorms. Brant (the freshman dorm) and Stu-Han (the female dorm) do not have air conditioning but the in dorm activities and bonds are great.
Academic Rigor The academics are demanding but they are manageable. Attending class and staying on top of your assignments are key to success here.
Tips for prospective students Branch out, attend events and make friends. Try to befriend people at the SOAR registration and schedule classes with them. Its comforting knowing at least one person on your first day of class because they are just as nervous as you.
In three sentences Its a perfect school for students who are looking to have fun and relax at college while still being able to manage their work load. ULV has lots of activities to keep you occupied, while still being near the big city. ULV is a perfect university for students who want to dorm or commute.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police and fire departments are within our campus community. They are actually from the city of La Verne.
Greek Life I just pledged a fraternity this semester and I am enjoying it. Good opportunity for community involvement and developing friendships.
Clubs and Activities Ethnic, political, career related. There is something for everyone.
Bang for the buck Being a smaller private school, lots of financial aide if you do the basics and keep your grades up. My parents are happy because we are actually paying less than a Cal State would cost and I will graduate in four years!!!!
What to do for fun I just pledged a fraternity. Greek life isn't huge on campus, but we've got the best! Always parties and outings (as dorm floors or with clubs) going on.
Food and Dining Okey, good flexibility. ie. you can spend leo dollars you have left from cafeteria in the student union deli. You can use these $$$ to get late night snacks, drinks.
Dorm Life We're opening new dorms next year! Exciting! We will have small suites now. So, I'll tell you next year how that goes. Only the coed dorms currently have a/c which I was fortunate enough to be in both freshman and sophomore years. Makes for good friendships (living on campus).
Academic Rigor Competitive, but if you've been doing AP and Honors in High school, should not be a big adjustment. Lots of hands on in my department (Communications).
Tips for prospective students Not for you if you want the large crowds. It is small, but close enough to big city adventures and opportunities.
In three sentences Small classes, but big in opportunities. You get out what you put in. Family atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is always on campus and can easily be reached by picking up and of the phones around campus and dialing 0.
Greek Life There is 7 fraternities and sororities on campus and they all offer different experiences. They all have there own philanthropy and give to a cause. There are 4 sororities and 3 fraternities.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of things to do on campus ranging from clubs to intramural sports on campus.
Great for these types of students If you are interested in a small school and do well with one on one teaching La Verne is the place for you. It is also a very homely atmosphere with a lot of friendly people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our school has a 24 hour teeter totter event where one of the fraternity gets two boys to teeter totter for 24 hours straight. During this time period you can go get food and socialize or just see how they are doing. Next year we want to break the world record and go for 72 hours.
Bang for the buck La Verne is expensive up front but guarantees you can get out in four years if not sooner. Now a days this can be cheaper than a Cal State or UC because it takes those students more than 4 years to get there Bachelors degree.
What to do for fun La Verne is a small college town so you can always go around with your friends and go to the small shops or restaurants. It is in-between downtown Claremont and glendora so it is easy to go to the movies or go shopping, The fair is always fun when is it around it is literally across the street.
Food and Dining The food needs some work. Our food hours are not very flexible and makes it hard for athletes to eat on game weekends. The plus side is there is always a healthy option.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. The school does a great job picking your roommates and floor mates to match your personality. I couldn't have had a better experience.
Academic Rigor La Verne has a tough curriculum but you also have great opportunity at the end of your education here. Biology is the toughest major here but that does not mean the others are easy. It is all doable just requires some hard work.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate and do not hesitate to go see your professors. Most professors notice what kind of student you are and often will know when you are missing class to much.
In three sentences I am getting a great education and don't have to compete with 500 other kids per class. The small classrooms are perfect and teachers are great.

Bang for the buck Very Very expensive school!
What to do for fun many campus activities!
Dorm Life Recently, new dorms were built and they are coming out great. Living experience is very different from living at home! Nonetheless, it is very diverse.
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging but professors are very helpful.
Tips for prospective students Get involved because the more people you know, the more opportunities will rise.
In three sentences The university of la verne is a small private school. Basically you know or are familiar with mostly everyone here. Moreover, the professors are great especially when getting that one on one interaction.

Categories Comments Campus Safety La Verne really makes sure that you feel the same safety as if you were at home.
Greek Life There are not a lot of options when it comes to Greek life. For me, i wish they had more African American based sororities on campus but other than that it is average.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs and activities to choose from. If there is a club or activity that is not on campus, a student is more than welcome to start a new one. The staff really encourage the students to start something new.
Great for these types of students La Verne is great for students who like small communities and small classes
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know of any unusual traditions or locations on campus. I'm sure i will find something.
Bang for the buck La Verne is extremely expensive!! It is a lot for a private school but in the end it is worth it. As long as you work hard and get the top grades it is all worth it.
What to do for fun I have not met a lot of people at La Verne but I have heard from students that there are a lot of things to do. They have random events on campus and there are events that take place in the community. Also, most of the students attend are closer to the Los Angeles area.
Food and Dining The food is really good and they have great options. I do wish they had more of a variety of different foods but other than that the food is great.
Dorm Life I love the dorm life. It really gives you an opportunity to learn new people on campus. Some of the dorm rooms are very big and you may not be able to meet everyone in your dorm complex, but it gives you a chance to really meet and see new people you have not seen on campus.
Academic Rigor From what I have experienced, the academics can be very rigorous. For me as a biology major I will be challenged with high level math classes and a load of work from each class. Which is a good thing because it challenges your intellect.
Tips for prospective students It is very important that you visit the campus!!! La Verne is a very small campus and it may not be for everyone. Make sure to go to the spotlight events to really get a feel for the environment and events on campus.
In three sentences La Verne is probably the most spirited university I have ever been to. The people and staff are very friendly and energetic. It creates a very positive environment to study and get an education.

What to do for fun SO many activities and ways to get involved, really relaxed atmosphere. Gaming, Tvs all over, cafes to hang out, lots of sports, great people on campus, just have to visit to see, the possibilities are endless, great place to be!
Food and Dining The school has their very own catering and dining service that is top notch, amazing food, major selection no matter what time of the deal, cost is a little high but its so worth it!
Dorm Life Great dorms, lots of activities, and ways to get involved living on campus! Spacey, clean, some have air some don't, not a big deal if you bring a fan, apply for dorms early and its a non-issue, great residential life!
Academic Rigor Excellent private research institution, great professors, wonderful curriculum, they academically assist you from the start.. it's a great school for students looking for a great education, tough classes? Tutoring available! Great opportunities for all majors, close faculty relationships.
Tips for prospective students Complete all financial aid and housing applications before the deadlines, or else you won't qualify for all financial aid opportunities and the housing fills up FAST. Definitely don't just sit there and research from home, call the admissions

Food and Dining I love the ULV cafeteria, and I would rate it 4.5 Stars due to the food quality and the reasonable pricing.
Dorm Life As an off-campus housing student, I'm not able to rate the dorm life of ULV.
Academic Rigor I would rate the Organizational Leadership program 5 Stars due to the challenging writing assignments, reports, and oral presentations.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should thoroughly review the laverne.edu; meet with administration and financial aid staff to learn what student helpful is available; and spend a day exploring the community and the campus.
In three sentences ULV is a great institution with a long standing in the community and around the world as a stellar, student-focused campus. Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is very tight and rarely have any serious occurrences
Greek Life Currently not in Greek life
Clubs and Activities Too many to explain. Last year the university's annual concert had J. Cole play and the year before that had LMFAO.
Great for these types of students Students who enjoy a tight community will enjoy their lives at this university. The freshmen class tend to be very small and students always tend to have relatively the same classes as their friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Rock in front of the Founder's Hall is key component of the University cause it can help you when you are lost
Bang for the buck The textbooks that most majors use can easily be found on online sites such as eBay and Amazon. Recommend you buy your books from there. Friend who is a criminal justice major saved $950 on books on only 4 books. Great deal
What to do for fun Clubs will always keep you occupied and is less then 20 minutes away from the local mall.
Food and Dining Food is so pretty acceptable and is near dozens of restaurants and fast food chains to choose from.
Dorm Life Currently commuting
Academic Rigor Biology is one of the more difficult majors but gives the most opportunities to apply what you have learned in class in the real world. Classes are tough but students have chances to travel around the world and study and you FLEX community help make your college life more exciting
Tips for prospective students Register for SOAR as early as possible to get the best chance og getting the classes you want. Listen to your advisers they will work with you and make tremendous impact on if you graduate in four years or never. Get involved in the school there are hundreds of clubs that appeal to everyone.
In three sentences University of La Verne is small private college that deals with dozens of majors in traditional class room setting. The University is very proactive and always have ways to stimulate a student either physically or mentally.

Categories Comments Campus Safety La Verne is an insanely small city. Nothing ever happens but if something where to happen everyone is safe. La Verne is next to a police and fire station. Nothing crazy has ever happen on campus or the area itself.
Greek Life Greek life is amazing at ULV. The greeks are very nice, friendly and welcoming. All the organizations are very philanthropical and always try to get involve. You even hear good reports about greek life by the faculty and the president (Lieberman). Greek life is a good asset at ULV. I really encourage greek life to the ones that are interested.
Clubs and Activities The clubs are great at campus and they are all very productive. They all offer something to the University and can also make it a good experience for students. Everyone can join a club if they really wanted to. The activities are very important to ASULV, they always host events to build community and make is fun for the students. 4/5 days of the week there is something going on on campus.
Great for these types of students Students who are comfortable being on a small campus. Or who are use to being in small schools
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus La Verne has a rock that everyone paints at one point in their La Verne years. A lot of organizations paint the rock (which happens to be at the middle of the campus), mainly the greek organizations paint the rock. The greeks have socials at the rock as some of the members paint it. These are some of the most popular socials of ULV. It is a great way to meet people or simply catch up with people as well.
What to do for fun I get involved on campus. We have preview day where prospective students attend and check out the campus, one year I applied to be a leader. La Verne also has spotlight weekend when future students can go the campus, spend the night and get to learn about ULV. I am also in the greek system, so I keep myself busy with different events. For example, Kicks for Kidneys, rock-n-jock, socials etc. I am also in the Latino student Forum and I enjoy spending time with my fellow Latinos. 85% of my time I spend it with friends, we just love to hang out and have fun.
Food and Dining The food is delicious. There are many options and different types of food Each year it seems to get better.
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best. La Verne has a great RHA and they always try to build community and strengthen the connection with each resident. There are always little functions going on that keeps the community involved and busy.
Academic Rigor Academics are amazing. La Verne great professors who teach the material super good. Plus everyone has a great advisor who leads them on their College career
Tips for prospective students This is a small campus so it is not like Cal States or UC's. Come with an open mind and you will see how amazing La Verne is even if it is a small campus. It is hard on commuters because they tend to feel left out just because everyone on campus already knows one another since they live among eachother.
In three sentences La Verne is an amazing small University. It is a very close knit school and the environment is very welcoming. The campus is also absolutely beautiful.

Academic Rigor I find the academics to be very challenging. Not in a bad way, just keeps you on your toes. The professors are looking for quality work, that you know what you are talking about and are able to express it clearing.
Tips for prospective students Ask questions. No question is dumb. This is your education and your money. This school is not cheap so you want to make sure you get the biggest bang for your money that you can.

Great for these types of students This is great for dedicated, hardworking students that prefer a small classroom setting and more class availability.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a rock that is painted at different times by clubs and organizations.
Bang for the buck It is expensive like mentioned but the education is great. Financial aid is also available.

Tips for prospective students Apply to scholarships to pay off tuition. Don't expect to get lost in the shuffle like in high school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The community is very quiet and safe. The campus safety is always there for students if they need help, and if something serious happens, they let all the the students know via email.
Greek Life The Greek life at La Verne is pretty popular. There aren't many sororities and fraternities to choose from, but La Verne is a small school so that's expected. The students who join typically enjoy Greek Life, though. If students are interested in another sorority or fraternity that La Verne doesn't have on campus, other schools like Cal Poly Pomona have more options that La Verne students can explore.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs and sports teams that students can join. Almost everyone at La Verne is involved in either a club, a sport, or both.
Great for these types of students Commuter students generally like the school, but students from around the area still live on campus. The school is great for people who like or would like to experience living in a small town.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school has a rock, appropriately named, The Rock, that many students paint during their time at the school. Mainly clubs and the sororities and fraternities paint it and have socials during the painting. It's fun to see how it changes over the course of a year.
Bang for the buck La Verne is very generous with the financial aid that it gives to students, and with the great academics as well as all of the activities and free stuff (t-shirts, water bottles, key chains, etc.), the money paid is well worth it.
What to do for fun La Verne is a small town so there isn't much to do off campus besides go to the movies and the mall. On campus, however, the Campus Activities Board provides countless opportunities for fun. They often have comedians, small concerts, and movie nights. These events are small and sometimes not well attended but it's definitely an effort on the schools's part to give the students something fun to do. They are sometimes fun and a great way to meet people.
Food and Dining There are only two food options on campus. Davenport is the main cafeteria and has ok food. Sometimes it's hit or miss with the taste but it's not terrible. Barbara's Place is the cafe and has a small selection of breakfast and lunch hot food as well as baked goods (mainly bagels and muffins that aren't too great) and coffee and tea. The coffee served there is a limited selection of Starbucks drinks. The best thing about Barb's is that you can use your Leo Dollars and not waste real money on the food there.
Dorm Life All of the dorms on campus are nice. Even though Brandt and Stu-Han don't have air-conditioning (Oaks and the new dorms, Vista do), the students who live become close with each other. I lived in Stu-Han and the RA's were great. They always had programs for us and were very nice. A lot of people complain about all of the rules that they put in place, but really they aren't hard to follow. Just follow them, be respectful and there won't be any problems.
Academic Rigor I'm a Bio major so my classes were pretty tough. The teachers are very passionate about their work and try to pass that on to students. I never took a class that was an Easy A.
In three sentences La Verne is a small town university with a small town feel. Oftentimes, the school feels a lot like high school but it grows on you after a while. If you like being in a close knit community, then La Verne is the place for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety A firehouse located right across the street helps ensure that the school is safe. Campus security patrols at all hours of the clock protecting students from any harm.
Greek Life The Greek Life is amazing with very nice people. The organizations really make you feel like you are more than just a student. The people you meet in greek life have become just as important to you as your education.
Clubs and Activities There are a few clubs and organizations to make college a better experience. However, there is not many clubs and activities. The school is a division III school and do not have many sports.
Great for these types of students La Verne is a great school for students who want that one on one feeling. Students who live in Los Angeles and want to get away from home but not be too far would love the location of the university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is The Rock which has so much sentimental value. It is literally a rock with a thick layer of paint covering it. The Rock has been there forever and has became a symbol of La Verne.
Bang for the buck You definitely get what you paid for. When it comes to La Verne they have incredible funding to help each person with their specific need.
What to do for fun There is not much to do around the campus itself. However, Raging Waters is only a short drive away. A old town is located walking distance away from the school.
Food and Dining The food is phenomenal. Chefs attend to your every crave with a variety of meal plans. The pricing is reasonable.
Dorm Life Dorms are very nice and help keep the school spirit going by keeping everyone linked so closely together. Bonds are built with rooming partners and other pupils.
Academic Rigor The classes are very small. Teachers build a certain bond with students that is very unlike the connection that UC and Cal State professors build. The professors are very polite and wise, they teach so that it is easier to grasp the topic.
Tips for prospective students For future prospective students I recommend filling out as many scholarships as you possibly can. Make sure you are on track with your files and stay organized.
In three sentences The University of La Verne is a nice, petite, and unique school. A place where everyone is welcomed with a smile. La Verne is definitely the school you want to attend for that at home feeling.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Regardless of what very few people say, the food here is grade A. I love it. If you're a big eater like me, I suggest a large meal plan.
Dorm Life The dorm life here is great. They just built a new dorm this year that is really nice, but all the dorms here are good. You'll really feel like you're at a home away from home.
Academic Rigor From what I hear some of the classes can be kinda rough, but it depends on your major. No matter how tough the class, there's people all around you that would be glad to help you as much as possible.
In three sentences This school is GREAT! I've only been here for a few weeks but I'm already in love with the school. The campus is great and the professors and faculty are phenomenal!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is on the 10Th floor of the shorter tower in Oxnard and offers security in the building for the students that have to attend school in the evening.
Great for these types of students The University of La Verne VCC campus is great for working adults who have full time jobs and/or children. The Accelerated Program for undergraduates was structured to overcome the obstacles that most working adults, with or with out children, would run into if they wanted to return to college. The program is also set up to keep in mind the support that most returning students need when re-entering college. The way they do that is by setting up the program as a cohort.
Academic Rigor The classes require that you attend EVERY session due to it being an Accelerated Program. There are no exceptions when it comes to attendance. But if you show up, do your work and show that you are putting in your best effort the teachers and staff will support you in anyway they can.
Tips for prospective students Do not assume that your dreams of going to college are over just because your not 20 years old anymore. At Laverne the only thing expected of you is to show up, participate and do your best. If you do all of those things then they will help you with the rest. If you want the opportunity to grow, learn and evolve both financially and personally then La Verne is the school for you!
In three sentences The University of La Verne Ventura County Campus has opened up the door to a world of opportunities that I had previously thought was closed. As a 35 year old adult woman I resolved myself to living paycheck to paycheck because there was no way, even it was offered to me for free, I could afford to go back to college and attend classes during the day. La Verne's Accelerated Bachelor's Program schedule is catered to allow working adults the freedom and opportunity to accomplish their goals of earning a college degree.

Tips for prospective students To enjoy your time at The University of La Verne you have to get involved. They make it easy to do so by offering several clubs and events to help out with. Living on campus if you live more than 20 minutes away also makes it easier to get involved.
