Categories Comments Great for these types of students The whole Lafayette scene is pretty good therapy for students who may get stressed out too easily. Otherwise, it's a notably diverse campus.
Tips for prospective students Lafayette is a pretty laid-back town.. The University has some decent on-campus residencies. Some semesters will feel more like high school but don't get distracted. In the end, you are solely responsible for yourself. Enjoy the services you are paying for.
Bang for the buck The residue of economic thought filters through every bureaucracy. Universities are no different from movie theaters in that they all just want your money.
Am enjoying being here There are some characters at ULL and everyone appears mature. I've had a lot of good experiences and learning experiences.
Am learning a lot Rarely I have had classes where I felt the relation between professor and class would lack.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The good thing about UL is they have people who are willing to help with whatever problems you may have at your request, and usually free of charge. The Learning Center in Lee Hall (on Hebrard St, next to the Physics building) has free tutoring for almost every subject. And Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD, in the Conference Center - first floor) is available for students who may need learning accommodations such as a note taker, or a designated student who takes good notes for you to compare with your own. Stop by either office for more information
Tips for prospective students If you are parking on campus (which usually means you must live on campus), be sure to get your parking permit asap. The office (on Hebrard St., across from Martin Hall and the post office) tends to have a LONG line, especially on dorm check-in days, so arrive a little before they open, if you can. Also, you may want to have a list of your classes printed and then walk around campus to each room you're in before the first day. This is to get a feel for campus, and so you can avoid a frantic search 3 minutes before the class starts!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like to get involved. There is an activity for everyone.
Tips for prospective students I believe the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the best bet for students in any field of study. When I was looking for a college during my high school years, I looked for the best programs in my state and ULL was at the top of the list. Being here one semester, I have found out a lot about the programs offered here. The Engineering program is one of the best in the nation. Many of the schools here have great programs in this field but ULL has surpassed many of them in graduates and competions in engineering. Also the Nursing program is highly reconized among fellow schools when it comes time for student to do there clinicals. If your an international student, UL is the right school for you. Over 100 countries are represented here on campus. International student are treated nicely and are welcomed. If you are looking for a college where you can be accepted for who you are and will find some where to fit in easily, ULL is for you
Bang for the buck The cost for out of state student is CHEAP!!!! If your from out of state...I would advise you to look at this college for the cheap price. In state, it is still pretty good for us.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. The staff is friendly in all aspects of the campus. Teacher to Custodians are friendly. The student activities are awesome. You get to participate in Mardi Gras and many college events.
Am learning a lot The classes are very interesting. Many of the professors will expect more out of you only to make you a better student. the teachers will help you out alot if you participate and ask.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UL Lafayette is a beautiful campus great for serious academics, social butterflies, Artist, Educators, People interested in Greek life, Communications, Pre-Med, Pre-Law, Athletes, and many more. If you are seeking diversity on a beautiful campus with a large array of things to do and see, you Ragin Cajun material.
Tips for prospective students Take full advantage of all of the opportunities you have at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Know what tools are available to you. Worried about the cost of books? Follet's, a bookstore right by campus allows you to rent most of your books for the entire semester for a much lower price than purchasing. Pick a major that you will like and stick to it. Do not be afraid to ask for help because most of the people on campus are truly friendly and teachers are really understanding.
Bang for the buck There are a lot of complaints about the slow rising of tuition and fees here and UL Lafayette, however, it is one of the less expensive schools in Louisiana. Paying a little over $7,000 dollars, I get to live on campus in an apartment with my two best friends, eat 12 meals a week (including weekends) in the Cafeteria, and with declining balance eat at any other food place on campus. Living in the dorms, you got nice facilities, a great room, and free access to Washers and Dryers. I also get to enter any of the UL Lafayette home sporting events for free as well as free transportation to and from such school sponsored events and south campus by bus during the day. A shuttle brings students to south campus as well as anywhere else on campus at night until 12 midnight . Being a Ragin Cajun also gains you entrance into the newly renovated recreation hall with pool and rock wall. I am given an Academic Advisor to assist me with scheduling and access to a wealth of information in our school library.
Am enjoying being here Being from New Orleans and never even seeing or hearing about Lafayette, I thought I was going to be in the country. Lafayette may not be like New Orleans but it has a lot to do on and off campus. The Student Government Association, Resident Hall Association, and University Program Council all make sure we have enough to keep us entertained. Whether you like to show off your school spirit at a sporting event, study in a quiet location or in a group, work out or relax in a pool at the newly renovated gym, or dance like crazy while participating in a fun paint war, UL Lafayette has something for you. Want to join a sport or club? UL Lafayette has a large array of clubs and sports including intramural. If you cannot find a sport or club for you, its no problem because you can just make one! New clubs are added all the time. Volunteer or raise awareness? We have a large number volunteer opportunities and a lot of ways to bring attention to things you like. In to the nightlife? No problem. UL Lafayette is immediately down the street from the Friday night hang outs known as The Strip or The McKinley Strip and a short drive or walk from the Saturday hotspots downtown. You get the liveliness of a big city with the peace and quiet of a little country town. Whether your on campus or off, partying or not, there is something for you.
Am learning a lot I absolutely love getting up for class, even those dreaded 8 o'clocks. I did change my major after my very first semester, and now that I am in a program that I love the work comes so easily. It does not feel like work to me most of the time. The teachers are helpful and supportive and the methods are thorough. I truly have no complaints when it comes to the educators in my college.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who don't want to become just a number. All of the classes have a good student to teacher ratio, so you'll always feel like you are known
Tips for prospective students Schedule your classes as soon as possible and check back on availability frequently! People are constantly changing their classes around and you may be able to grab a class someone just dropped.
Bang for the buck Due to state wide budget cuts, some classes are only offered in either the spring or the fall semester, not both like most colleges. This can be challenging when trying to schedule required courses since class numbers are typically small.
Am enjoying being here Lafayette is home to me. The people are incredibly friendly and are always willing to help. UL portrays general disposition of the south extremely well.
Am learning a lot As I am progressing further and further into my major I find I am learning a lot more. My professors challenge me to look into topics at a greater depth.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like smal towns where everything is nearby, the school isn't too large, and people are alright, and just want a degree from an easy university, then you may like this. UL accepts everybody.
Tips for prospective students Don't live at the Legacy, if you're into plays and orchestras, you should go b/c it's free and they are good performances. I recommend the 7 meals per week, just so you have about $400 to spend eating food outside the cafeteria. Everything is relatively easy so don't stress or expect to have too much fun.
Bang for the buck Everything is worth the price except food and housing. Don't live at the legacy if you're not having a friend as a roommate because 9/10, you'll get an inconsiderate one. The dorms save you about $1000-$2000 a semester, compared to an apt. at 4000. It's a big save of money, but not a big save from sanity. I like the free activities though, like plays and orchestras.
Am enjoying being here Not really. I lived 45 mins. from lafy before I came to UL, so I guess I'm bored of the town. Nightclubs stink and not a lot to do. It's a good mix of good and bad people. Not a lot of diversity, in color..if you know what i mean.
Am learning a lot I'm a graphic design major. What I learn is good, but not great. Design and Drawing class are too basic. As an art student, I'm looking to gain more experience, despite my classification of being a freshman. Art supplies were a witch to buy :(

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for all sorts of students/majors.. the nursing program, from what I heard, is pretty tough though.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to fill out your FASFA on time each year as well as apply for work study. Ask about the special service department, they have lots of opportunities there.
Bang for the buck This I believe depends on what type of financial aid/ grants you think you will be receiving each year.
Did enjoy being here Absolutely, there are tons of activities that a student can do and clubs they can join on this campus.
Did learn a lot I learned quite a lot from attending this school. The professors here ( from my experience) are very helpful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are security guards desk workers and RA's in our dorms 24/7. Police officers patrol outside and sometimes inside our dorms every night. If you feel threatened tell someone. If you See Something Say Something. Its also our responsibility to keep ourselves safe.
Greek Life There are twenty-one Greek organizations on our campus. Plenty to choose from and find one that's just for you. You could be a Tri Delta, a Zeta Phi Beta an, Alpha Kappa Alpha, or may be you're a guy and would like to join Kappa Sigma, Sigma Nu, or even Omega Psi Phi. Its your decision.
Clubs and Activities We have hundred of clubs, PLEASE do NOT get to ULL and do nothing. There is SOUL Camp, SOS staff, RHA, club sports ANYTHING. There is something for EVERYONE, more than one something. Make the most of your experience.
Great for these types of students UL Lafayette is great for every type of student.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have plenty unusual traditions such as rave in the library, free pancakes at midnight, and chow-down at ten PM.
Bang for the buck Have I mentioned that ULL is super affordable !
What to do for fun There is always something to do on campus. Whether its something just bin your dorm, a football game (my favorite ), basketball game, any game really, a club meeting, forums, movie showings, fashion shows. stand -up comedy, karaoke nights, pancakes at midnight, raves in the library ( usually during exam week ) or bumping into your friends ( or a really cute guy ) in the Cafe ( what we students call the dining area ) trust me ULL is a blast !
Food and Dining The food is great for the most part. A few tips for the future, 1- Don't blow through you declining balance ( Called DB and is used as money for food in various location around campus ) the first week use it moderately. 2- ALWAYS eat in the cafe Mondays for lunch, the red beans and rice is to die for. 3- ALWAYS stop by the cafe just to see whats on the menu, they may surprise you and have your favorite ( red beans.. or tacos ). 4- EAT the breakfast, the omelets are the bomb and a hearty breakfast is a great way to start your day. 5- try Zeus ( located by Legacy Apartments ) the food is great even if you don't know what some of it is, trust me.
Dorm Life There is always emphasis on always someone to talk to, study with, borrow something from, or just hang out with in our dorms. Occasionally our RA's sponsor events where we play games, watch movies, eat, and enjoy each others company
Academic Rigor ULL is definitely noted for its world-class scholars and excellent research. For example Dr. Quincy Hilliard ( Composer at UL Lafayette ) has written music for the Olympic Games! Our professors are outstanding.
Tips for prospective students My advice for all incoming students is to get to know your professors because they want to know you and be there for you. Join organizations and get to know other students who share your pride. Be a proud RAGIN' CAJUN !
In three sentences A ten out of ten. There is plenty of diversity as well as clubs and organizations. Ninety percent of the classes do not exceed forty and the professors love to interact with and get to know us by name. Attending the University of Louisiana-Lafayette is the utmost best decision I have and will ever make.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you going to major in computer science (as am I), engineering, mathematics or any science related major then U.L. is a good choice.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you make a well informed decision about coming here.
Bang for the buck As stated as previous, housing is expensive. Tuition can also be costly. The university to have some ridiculous charges that is unreasonable.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy it hear but it over 200 miles away from my home. There are some bad students at the university. The dorms are overpriced and any other places is most likely overpriced when compared to local apartments.
Am learning a lot U.L. have several great professors and teacher that are truly dedicated to teaching students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Engineering students of all types, computer science, biology, or nursing students
Tips for prospective students Join as many organizations as possible and take advantage of all the schools resources like the library, campus shuttle, recreation center, and computer labs. Also get to know your professors because many are willing to help you.
Bang for the buck This school is considerably cheaper than most other schools I looked into attending. They also have smaller class sizes than other public colleges in the area and have some strong departments. As a whole the school is worth looking into because even with such a low tuition, there are many perks included with the price.
Am enjoying being here The school has some downsides but these are overcome by the community. Faculty and staff are generally very personable and many truly care about their students. Outside the campus, there are lots of free events to attend and things to keep students occupied.
Am learning a lot The teachers can either underestimate the amount their students can learn or overestimate what their students already know. Many teachers assume that their students cannot understand anything but the few that do not really rely on other teachers already having explained what you are supposed to be learning.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The tuition is not as bad as some people think and there is always some type of scholarship or financial aid to help you through college
Am enjoying being here ULL always has something on on campus and the football tailing gating is so much fun. I do recommend to join an organization to get more out of college than just studying! :)
Am learning a lot I find a lot of teachers do really care about what you learn in their classes. I love all my teachers that I have taken because they do take time to make sure you understand the material that is being taught.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is great for every type of student because there is a wide variety of people around campus.
Tips for prospective students Be open to getting involved in campus and even if you are not involved it is still a fun place to be.
Bang for the buck I honestly believe it was worth all of the money I put into going there.
Am enjoying being here I really love the environment. It is not too big, and at the same time it is not too small. There is a perfect balance of activities and school work. It is incredibly easy to become involved on campus and this makes it more enjoyable.
Am learning a lot I have learned a great amount here. The professors are really helpful when they see you making an effort to participate and learn.

Food and Dining the cafeteria is ok, but luckily there are plenty of choices including a subway, pizza hut, chick fil a, sushi, and lots of other place right off campus that are within walking distance.
Dorm Life i really can't comment on this. i live 1.5 miles away in an apartment.
Academic Rigor i am a nursing major and not only are the courses engaging and rigorous ; there is no room for failure.
Tips for prospective students check out the campus before you start classes as it is large and spread out. don't schedule a class at bourgeois hall unless you have 30-45 mins to get from the main campus to that class.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the most fun things that happens on campus is lagniappe week where one day we have 10,000 pounds of crawfish for the whole town. family and friends come out and enjoy! there's also mardi gras! lafayette is one of the biggest cities for mardi gras. it's really fun! plus there is plenty more things, but you will have to come check it out for yourself.
Bang for the buck it's a great price for tuition. everything is near buy. this school revolves around the whole city. they love there ragin' cajuns! every student who attends the school gets in all games, activities, etc. for free!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Of course UL is known for its parties and drinking. So of course party and going to the keg and pub every Wednesday and Friday. Usually there is always something to do in the town or on campus so boredom is rare.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is very nasty to me. I usually like of burgers, fries , grills cheese, and icees. But the other dining places on campus are pretty good overly priced but good,
Dorm Life The university is currently in the process of renovating the campus. So many of the dorms are only like a semester old which is very good compared to the dorm before. The dorm like style is great for it to be a dorm so i guess it would be okay for a college freshmen to experience
Academic Rigor Stay on top of your studies and homework because once you fall behind there really is no such thing as catching up.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus. Talk to the dean of you r college. Dont be afraid of the university size you will get us to it
In three sentences This university is a great experience for any individual looking forward to a great learning experience. The teachers truly care about you learning the information and not just memorizing skills to get through a class. The university is always advancing in various ways.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Full time police force on campus, twenty four hours a day. Also have emergency poles around campus for quick '911' or information calls. An escort at night is also available.
Clubs and Activities Over 150 student organizations to join, almost anything you could be interested in is available.
Great for these types of students Engineering and computer science students will attend nationally recognized departments. Also great for other students, of course.
Bang for the buck Lowest tuition in the south.
What to do for fun Go to the park right next to campus, visit the university gym (newly renovated), try out student organizations, go to campus events, and attend sports games.
Food and Dining Almost every major fast-food chain available on campus or near by. Main dining is buffet style with different menu every day.
Dorm Life Brand new dorms built this year. All units are 'suite' style with no communal bathrooms.
Academic Rigor Honors Program available. Classes are as hard as you make them, do your studying and you will pass. There are teachers who fudge grades to help out students, however.
Tips for prospective students Use the resources available to you on campus, you do pay for it in tuition. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
In three sentences UL has the best culture you can get in a University. Great academic programs, and great athletics. Plenty of kind faculty out rule the bad ones.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is good on campus, however, do not walk or ride your bike around the city of Lafayette really late at night. A UL student, Mickey Shunick, has just recently went missing and she's all over the news. So be very careful.
Greek Life It's like a religion here. However, it is very small and close-knit. Unlike USC where the houses are mansions that sleep 250 people.
Clubs and Activities It's pretty ok with clubs, but it still lacks some of the things that I would like such as a volleyball club.
Great for these types of students Small-town people who don't want to leave home or be too far away from it. People who like Cajun culture.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Rex St. is like the 5th Avenue of UL. Every student of UL passes Rex St. at least once every single day. It is where the bus loading area is as well as the food court.
Bang for the buck It's definitely cheap or an instate student. Where I grew up (Los Angeles), the in-state tuition alone was around $12,000. Here, it's like $2,000. The books are really expensive though, and a total waste of money. Rent or order online if you can.
What to do for fun Play an intramural sport! This can be a lot of fun. I played volleyball, beach volleyball and tennis. Join an organization. This is a great way to meet friends. Go clubbing! Lafayette has the best nightlife in the state supposedly.
Food and Dining Horrible. Just horrible. Such a waste of money because it is so expensive. But you can substitute the nasty cafeteria food with Chick-fil-a, Zeus, Pizza Hut, Quizinos, and Subway.
Dorm Life Four new dorms have just been built this year, so if you would like to live on campus, you will have brand new facilities. I lived in Baker Hall the year that it opened and I loved it. You get a huge vanity mirror and sink, medicine cabinet with a side mirror, drawers, and then there's the toilet and the bathtub. The room comes with a bed, a desk, a drawer, and a closet. The commons area has a kitchenette with a mini fridge and microwave. Living in a dorm for nine months in extremely expensive, almost $10,000 at the highest. This is because if you live on campus, you have to have a meal plan, which costs thousands of dollars. The food sucks and you end up skipping so many meals.
Academic Rigor The academics seem mediocre, they really do. I feel like if I attended Harvard or UCLA and took classes in which I got A's over here, I would fail the classes over there. It seems a bit mediocre, but all of the programs are accredited and I have had to study very hard for all of my classes. I can tell you right now, the biology and nursing are two of the most difficult curriculums at UL. In business, accounting seems to be the hardest for most people. I don't know about the others, but the ones I stated are Hell.
Tips for prospective students If you are commuting to campus, you can park your car at Cajun Field and take the bus to campus. If you would like to live on campus, you can; however, it is extremely expensive. If you live on campus you must have a meal plan, which the food sucks! The moment you get here, make sure you get involved! Join every club possible. It will really enrich your experience and make it easier to acclimate to your new life.
In three sentences UL is small for me, but big for lots of other people. The school is somewhat diverse in population. The weather is hot and humid at first, then it gets cold, like really cold, and then it rains forever, and then it gets hot again. The academics are alright. It's not Harvard material, but the programs are accredited. The Greek life there is small, but thriving. Members are really into the whole idea.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel pretty secure here at UL. It is located in a nice area, where violence is pretty low. There is an on-campus police department, who is always a phone call away if help is needed. My roommate and I enjoy to go jogging at Gerard Park at night. The park is considered to be off-campus, but is so close that you would probably consider it to be on.
Greek Life Greeks are definitely in the house. I am not sure how many chapters are active. They throw parties, have events on campus, and help charities. Greek life is a great way to get involved at the school.
Clubs and Activities There are about 200 or more clubs here at UL. There are also many Greek brotherhoods and sisterhoods on campus. There is something for everyone here. I am not yet sure on everything that UL has to offer, but so far it has a lot to offer.
Great for these types of students UL is great for the sociable student, or for someone who is coming out of his/her shell. If you like to party, you should enjoy it here at UL. It is also great for someone who is looking for an academic challenge that is not too hard.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an on-campus swamp here. In the swamp, I've seen alligators, turtles, and fish. Don't worry, they can't get out. Lagniappe Day is a day in which ten thousand pounds of craw fish are boiled for students to enjoy and celebrate. UL is known to be the party school, so it is not uncommon to hear about a party around the area. In fact, the library has a rave during the week of finals.
Bang for the buck The tuition here is a bit expensive, but when other fees are added, it is a lot cheaper than many other universities here in Louisiana. I really feel that it is worth the amount that we pay.
What to do for fun I go power walking/jogging in Girard park with my friends, and roommate. We also enjoy walking around campus, and visiting friends in their dorms. I hear that the library has a big party (inside), during the week of finals. UL also has many fun traditions such as Lagniappe Day, which is a day when ten thousand pounds of craw fish are boiled for the students to enjoy. Bourgeois Hall is also a place that we enjoy. There is a pool, gym, basketball court, and many other amenities at the facility for us to enjoy.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has nice food. There are three dining areas on campus, the cafeteria, food court, and Cafe Fleur De Lis. The cafeteria provides many options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a bar with the meal of the day, an international meal, burgers, fries, and pizza, and also a salad bar. If you're eating in, you can eat however many times you want to. The food court is located in the Conference Center, and has a Pizza Hut, Chik-Fil-A, and an Asian restaurant. It is a place to go and grab a quick bite to eat. Cafe Fleur De Lis is an on campus convenient store. You can buy food items there, or simple toiletry items, such as tissue. There is also a Quizznos there. They also make and sell Asian stir fry, burgers, and pizza. CDL is a nice place to hang out with friends, after a busy day at school.
Dorm Life I do not live in the on-campus dorms, in fact I am living in the on-campus apartments. I love it here. Of course it was a bummer that the beds are only twin, but I have my own room and bathroom here. There is also a kitchen, and living area. Even Though I prefer the apartment over a dorm, the dorms are not bad. They are actually newly renovated. Students have the choice of having a private dorm, or to bunk with a roomy. They are nice and comfy, and have better mattresses than the ones in the apartments.
Academic Rigor I am a freshmen, completing my second semester at the University. I started over the past summer semester. Classes are not too bad. Some of the larger classes, such as Biology can be tough on a first time student. Most classes are taught lecture styled. The lecture styled, fast paced class is not really hard to me, because my high school basically taught us on the same style. However, I am aware that it can be a challenge for some students who are not use to it. I don't feel that it will be too hard for anyone. With some study time, and effort, you should make it through safely. The school does provide an academic challenge, but not one that is too hard for its students to not succeed in.
Tips for prospective students Once enrolled, be sure to calculate how much you will have to pay per semester. Be sure to calculate how much financial aid and scholarship money you will earn, and deduct that from the total cost of your schooling. If a loan will be needed, be sure to apply for one asap. Don't be scared to ask people questions, when ever help is needed. Almost everyone will be willing to help you when you are in need. Be sure that the school has your intended major, before enrolling. Once here, don't be shy, make friends! But, do not get too caught up. Be sure to stay focused on your studies.
In three sentences The University of Louisiana-Lafayette has a beautiful campus, and it is in fact the only university with an on-campus swamp. The university has so much of Louisiana's culture wrapped into it. The people at the school, as well as the city, are very welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety ULL is very determined to keep their students safe. They have their very own police department, who work all the time to keep the students safe and to keep trouble away.
Greek Life If greek life is for you, there is are many great fraternities and sororities you can join.
Clubs and Activities ULL has a wide variety of clubs ans activities, and if you can't find whats right for you, they are very open to getting you what you want.
Great for these types of students ULL is great for anyone, and any type of students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Swamp, ULL has its very own swamp which might sound crazy but its really nice and relaxing.
Bang for the buck ULL is not an expensive school. You get your monies worth of education, and you don't overpay for it.
What to do for fun I like to go to the park on campus with my niece. We also like to visit the swamp on campus.
Food and Dining ULL has a great variety of food to offer. I eat on campus as often as I can because I love it.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, but I hear they are really nice.
Academic Rigor I love the college of business. I would not change a thing!

In three sentences The University of Louisiana-Lafayette is a wonderful school, especially for business students. I would rate the school as a 10, on a 1-10 scale, there is nothing wrong with this school. I would recommend ULL to anyone who is interested in going to a great public college.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I can not speak for the every degree, but I am told that ULL's Architecture and Design school is AMAZING. You pay much less than any other design school around the country and you learn much more than any other design school will teach you.
What to do for fun There are many extracurricular sports taking place all year. There is also a brand new gym facility that offers swimming, archery, weights, and many more things to do.
Food and Dining The food is AMAZING. You are in the heart of cajun country so you not only get home cooked food, sushi, Quiznos, pizza, sushi, etc., but there are many amazing places to eat off campus as well.
Dorm Life The basic dorms are cold and not welcoming, but they also have apartment style living on campus which is much better. It is like living in a small condo.
Tips for prospective students If you can get past the hot weather most of the year you will enjoy ULL and make many friends there.
In three sentences ULL is an excellent college. It is a smaller college than most colleges. It is also in the heart of cajun country so it has that Louisiana cajun spirit to it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Scholarship students! There are tons of resources you can take advantage of if you have the grades--the Honors Program, which is /fantastic/ and which I thoroughly recommend (the department head is a wonderful woman who will help you with anything you need), for instance.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UL is the only campus in the US situated on a freshwater swamp. As such, the lake in the middle of campus has some very interesting sights and wildlife--it's definitely somewhere to check out.
Food and Dining I'm a vegetarian, so there really isn't much that UL offers to suit my diet--what it does offer is great for most people, lots of well-cooked Cajun food--and the surrounding area doesn't do much better. They do offer vegetarian options in the meal plans, so I expect to eat in a lot, but if you have dietary restrictions, check on that first.
Dorm Life The dorms are brand-new, modern, and very cozy. They have a living space in the lobby where students can sit around, a television room and game room, and a laundry room right down the hall. The rooms themselves are not spacious but have the basic amenities, as well as a shared (you and one roommate, typically) bathroom and a small kitchen space. It's not home, but you won't have to share a bathroom with the whole floor, either.
Academic Rigor It isn't an Ivy League school, and you shouldn't expect (thank goodness!) the same level of rigor, especially if you're a student on the academic high end of what they admit. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of leeway for students to slack off, either--many students I met during orientation were taking near the maximum number of credit hours, and we were definitely pushed to do as much as we comfortably could.
Tips for prospective students If you are a National Merit Semi-Finalist--not a finalist!--this school is definitely one to consider. They are an incredible value if you can rake in the scholarships from them, and if you're a scholarship student, the administration will do everything they can for you.
In three sentences The grounds are remarkably unique and nice, and the weather is too, as long as it isn't raining. The campus is under renovation, so while the dorms have gotten bad marks in the past, they're brand-new and modern now, and the rest of the buildings are slated to be. It's not a very laid-back university--partying didn't seem to be as much on the agenda as studying and work.

Greek Life Very open and welcoming Greeks!
Clubs and Activities Awesome amount of clubs and activities, one for every major and category!
Great for these types of students Great number of campus religous organizations and sanctuaries.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cypress Lake, which is in middle of campus behind the student union. It is an alligator habitat!
Bang for the buck Most departments offer a departmental scholarship available for all students in that program.
What to do for fun Attend any sports game, plenty of festivals always close by in the campus area.
Food and Dining Excellent food options besides the cafeteria. Food options range from cajun, greek, to food trucks, they just are not too reasonably priced.
Dorm Life A mojority of the dorms right now are under renovation.
Academic Rigor The instructing staff besides Nursing is very helpful and encouraging for you to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard and give it your best and that still not be good enough in the Nursing department. Ull has one of the best Nursing programs in the country and it is very competitive and made difficult by instructors and entire department, they prepare you for failure.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is constantly patrolled by university police. There is also a university police station in the middle of campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The quad is encircled by the Walk of Honor which is a path of bricks bearing the names of every graduate of the university. The campus features a swamp, Cypress Lake, which houses alligators, fish, birds and turtles. There is a tradition during the spring called swamp jump, which just as the name suggests is for anyone willing can jump in the swamp.
Food and Dining Aside from the all you can eat Cane Break Cafeteria, there are many other options across campus as well restaurants within walking distance to campus.
Dorm Life Students have many options for on-campus living, 6 newly opened/renovated dormitories, campus student apartments and family housing. All campus housing is co-ed.
Academic Rigor The courses are college level and this is one of the top universities in the state so do expect some difficulty.
Tips for prospective students - If you like to (or plan to) sleep in, do not schedule any 8am classes. - School > Partying - If there is something you do not understand, see your instructor during office hours and/or go to tutoring (group and/or one-on-one..they're both FREE)

Categories Comments Campus Safety ULL Police are always on patrol, and the campus is a very close-knit enviroment. There are emergency posts stationed throughout the campus as well.
Greek Life ULL has a large greek row. I have friends that have joined greek organizations and many are extremely satisfied with their decision.
Clubs and Activities There are many numerous clubs and organizations to get involved in. There literally is something for everyone.
Bang for the buck I do not find ULL to be that expensive. I think you get what you pay for, which is high quality education at the best level.
What to do for fun ULL has great student life and organizations, and there are numerous clubs and groups to get involved in. After all, Lafayette is such a fast growing city enriched with so much culture, the nightlife is never dull around here.
Food and Dining The food is great! Not only does ULL have many franchise chain restaurants on campus, but the traiditional southern cuisine is the best.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms, so I cannot talk about dorm life. However, I do know that there were dorms that were just renovated on campus.
Academic Rigor The courses at ULL vary amongst themselves when considering academic rigor. Many courses are challenging, but in turn better prepare and educate students about the subject being taught. However, many professors at ULL are extremely helpful and take pride in what they teach, helping students enrich themselves in knowledge each day.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students will be exposed to a college that embraces the culture of southern Louisiana. Be open minded and rest assured that you will have a great time, all while getting an exceptional education.
In three sentences This University is a great University for any college student looking to embrace everything the college experience has to offer. With a great location, ULL really does provide great education, but unlike many colleges, embraces the rich culture that Lafayette and south Louisiana as a whole has to offer. This University prides itself on helping its students prepare for a great life and career long after they finish college. It is a great choice for any future college student.

Greek Life Greek life aplenty!
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs!
Great for these types of students This school is great for cajun students because they are very proud of that here. Our mascot is a pepper and we go by the term 'ragin' cajuns.'
Bang for the buck This school is known for being one of the most affordable schools in the country compared to the quality of education but I still think it is very expensive.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do for fun in Lafayette! This is a great city.
Food and Dining The main dining hall is being renovated, which seems to be the theme of this campus, but the replacement is okay. The only options for vegetarians is a salad bar, a veggie burger, cheese pizza, and the same steamed vegetables every day.
Dorm Life Extremely expensive.
Tips for prospective students Try to move out of the on campus dorms as soon as possible because they are extremely expensive compared to renting an apartment off campus.Ex
In three sentences ULL has a nice atmosphere and is filled with friendly students willing to help you out. However, there was a master plan passed recently that the students were able to vote on and it concerned paying more for every registered class to pay for renovations to the school. I voted against this plan but I still have to pay for it since it passed and this makes me upset, but the school is nice.
