Will enjoy being here I've visited the campus more than once, and have fallen in love with the college. It's perfect for me, because its close enough to big cities like Austin, however, it is set in a small town.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students First and Foremost are students who know and Love Jesus Christ. UMHB, is an AMAZING Christian Community, and you will feel welcome and at home here. Athletes also enjoy this campus, all the sports teams have winning records every season. Students who want to live in the Heart of Texas, Belton is located in a great spot of Central Texas, beautiful little town. Also, the campus is about 20 or so miles from Fort Hood, and the Army ROTC program here is new, so it is a great campus for students who want to serve after college, or current military personnel who want to take courses.
Tips for prospective students Be involved, UMHB likes to see students who are involved, and who will be involved in the Crusader community. What helped me, was I attended a small Christian high school, so I had letters of recommendation from my Principal and Assistant Principal, and the Religious Brothers from my school. Letters of recommendation from a Pastor a Priest will help, but also letters from people who see what you are involved in.
Bang for the buck I would be lying if I didn't mention that this college is fairly expensive. However, the close-knit Christian Community, the great friends, the quality of the education, the fun, the memories, and the history of this University make it worth it. There are a lot of scholarships the university offers to help students lighten the load of paying for school. I cannon stress enough that the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor truly offers Education for Life...Experience of a Lifetime.
Am enjoying being here It is a relatively small school, so it is a close-knit community, with not just the students, the faculty, staff, and even the small town of Belton. You can always find something to do, there are plenty of campus activities throughout the week. You will make great friends, and if you are a Follower of Christ, you will the Christian centered community of this university. All the sports teams are very good, and the games are a blast to attend. The town of Belton is located close to Austin, Waco, Fort Hood, and College Station, so if you can't find something to do on campus, a short drive will get you to some fun places.
Am learning a lot Besides certain classees that EVERYONE takes, the class size is very small, even at the Freshman level. So you will get individualized attention if you need it. The University finds the best professors, every class I have had, the professor has been flexible, courteous, and extremely competent in getting the students to understand the material.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want a more personalized college experience in a smaller, down home Christian setting located in a small town. It is perfect for smart athletes!
Tips for prospective students Don't wait...visit UMHB now! I wanted to enjoy my senior year and not worry about where I was going to go to college so I did my research and visited several colleges and I made my decision in January that UMHB was the place for me.
Bang for the buck UMHB is expensive, but my parents say you get what you pay for. I plan to be a nurse and UMHB has one of the best nursing schools anywhere. I don't want to be a number in an auditorium so for the caliber of instruction and the class size, great value!
Am enjoying being here I graduated in the top 5% of my High School class and was accepted at many large universities, but I knew from the start UMHB was the right choice for me. The classes are small enough so the professor actually knows your name and your work. The campus facilities are great. I am an athlete and work out all the time...they have a great gym...a smoothie bar...great places to run.
Am learning a lot It is not a walk in the park, but who wants to pay tuition for a blow-off class. I had a tough semester taking classes and practicing baseball, but I ended my Freshman year with a 3.5 GPA. The professors are tough, but willing to help any student that is willing to put in the effort.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like to learn and have fun. My Old Testament professor made the class interesting for all students, whether they believe in God or not. He referenced movies all the time, even doing a Scarlet O'Hara impression once or twice when we discussed certain Bible stories. He also brought in visual aids and show and tell things on multiple occasions. Many of my professors are not merely academics. A lot of them love making modern connections to the things of the past. Learning becomes much more dynamic here. It really become more than just text on a page. The professors here like to give breath and color to the people and characters of the past. They no longer live on a page, but almost come to life as they describe them.
Tips for prospective students Don't just take a tour (Although that's a good first step.) Attend a Preview weekend or have a conversation with some of the students here. That's the real measure of a college. You can see people going about their lives on campus, but it isn't until you talk to one of them that you know whether or not you can see yourself here. If you do attend, get involved. The people here want to know you, but if you spend all year like a hermit in your room you do yourself an injustice. You miss out on all the memories and friends you'll make. Who knows you could meet your best friend here, or your future roommate. Just give people a chance cause they want to give you one.
Bang for the buck This university is rather pricey compared to other colleges, but definitely the education you'll receive here is worth it. I'm only a freshman and I've learned more than I have my entire life. Not only that the faculty and staff make themselves available to you. In my first semester, I had the Provost of the University, the Dean of my College of study, the Head of the Math Department, the most respected Psych professor on campus and one of the top History professors in here field as my teachers. I also had countless tutoring and educational programs and aid as my disposal. You also, get small classes so you really know the people you see every day. The library is phenomenal, on a cold or rainy day you can get a coffee and do your homework or read a good book. Also, the people in the Registrar's office and Bursar's office are really nice and helpful. I've had to be in there every week and everyday I've had to go in there they greet me with a smile and a laugh. They answer any questions I might have, and go out of their way to make the endless amount of paperwork go quickly and smoothly. When you pay the costs for college at UMHB, you pay for quality and community. The people here have hearts that are as open as your pocket book. :D
Am enjoying being here In the summer, before I began my first semester of college I couldn't imagine being here at UMHB. I didn't believe this was where I was supposed to be. I participated in the University's Welcome Week 2010 for incoming freshman and transfer student. During that first week my entire perspective on the University changed. I learned that here, they want this to be a place we can call home. A place to find brothers, sisters, friends, spouses etc and live together as a community of Crusaders. I'll never forget when I changed my mind about my expectations of my first year at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. It was the last event of Welcome Week, the dubbing ceremony. It's an event where all the new students sit out in from of Luther Memorial, light our candles, go on bended knee before our faculty and professors and pledge ourselves Crusaders Forever. To most students it's kinda a funny tradition, it's kinda chaotic there isn't any robes or chanting in the background, but to me it was the day I decided I was going to make the most of what God had given me. Not to long afterward I found friends that I could depend on. What was more I found brothers and sisters in Christ who I trust and rely on. We walk together as Christians and as Crusaders. On campus, there really is a sense of comradery. If you need a ride anywhere there is always a friendly face and a willing friend to give you a ride. I think the biggest form of unity we have at the University is the Home football games. Hundreds of students, alumni, faculty and staff all gather together in their cars, line up, roll down their windows and scream with a police escort all the way to the football field. Then, like crusaders going off to war we cheer for our team. Everywhere you go and to every event the students you see are always happy, always excited to see you, and if anyone is having a bad day or is worried about anything the students here are the first to pray for you, cry with you, laugh with you and help you through anything. I never thought I'd find a home here at UMHB, but that's exactly what I found. I really hope whoever is reading this can find that home here too.
Am learning a lot Honestly, I have never learned as much as have attending UMHB. I was blessed enough to be a part of the University Honors Program, and doing so I was able to meet students that hold themselves to a higher standard. My professors have been more than helpful. Whenever I had a problem or a question I could send them an email and within 10 or 15 minutes, sometimes any time of day I could get an answer to my questions. The professors here really do care about whether or not you understand the information. They're less concerned with grades and more interested in whether or not the students are prepared to succeed not only in their class but as a student at the University. I could ask any professor where to get help, and they were willing either to help me themselves or point me in the direction of a professor who could. They paid close individual attention to the way we think and how we process information, and every single one of my professors tried to relate to me on more than a student-to-teacher basis. They tried to bring me up to a higher level of academia and try to grow me as a student.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Work hard in high school. Apply for scholarships and school early. Get involved as soon as you get in.
Bang for the buck The cost per credit hour is definitely no easy task to pay for but the education that you receive is definitely worth it.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and the people are amazing. You feel like a part of the family as soon as you step on campus. Everyone is inviting and has a genuine interest in you.
Am learning a lot The Professors are very educated and know exactly what they are teaching. I never leave class without learning something new.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students of any religion (however, Christians may find the most comfort) looking for an education while making personal connections with professors, wanting to be surrounded by a friendly environment, and students who want a quality education without a large quantity of students.
Tips for prospective students Bring a bike! The campus is small enough to where a bike across campus, even on warmer days, will not even spark a sweat. And the many trees around campus provide shade! Also, don't be afraid or reluctant to get involved in activities!
Bang for the buck Albeit expensive, the quality of learning excels. The faculty maintains friendly help for any that need it, this includes the registration offices, library, bookstore, and the food is not half bad either for on-campus cafeteria!
Am enjoying being here All professors and students are friendly with one another. There are no cliques, sororities, or fraternities, so everyone is friends with everyone. The dorms and on-campus apartments all provide opportunities for its residents to meet each other and have fun. Also, the Christian environment has helped me focus on studies. And the fact our football team has been conference champions for the past decade helps our charisma!
Am learning a lot This is an EXCELLENT university. The classes are small and professors become close with almost all students, providing an excellent learning environment. Most teachers also bring life into the classroom, blasting away that stereotype of boring professors in auditoriums full of students. Also, the Christian study program has opened up so much to my spiritual knowledge!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This college is great for students who are overwhelmed with bigger campuses and want a smaller school.
Bang for the buck This school is definitely worth the money it costs to go here.
Will enjoy being here The campus is very small and easy to navigate around. It is also very beautiful. I like that it is in a small town, but not far from bigger cities like Austin.
Academic Rigor You will learn so much because of the small class sizes. It is much easier to pay attention when you have maybe 20-25 people total in your class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very small campus and they have campus police. Always feel safe
What to do for fun I've heard of a lot of clubs and things to do, but I don't live on campus so I do not know.
Food and Dining I've only eaten at the SUB once and the quesadilla was good, but nothing exceptional.
Dorm Life I never lived on the dorms here
Academic Rigor The nursing school classes are very challenging. 3/83 students received A's. Hard but doable
Tips for prospective students Apply early, make sure you have all your prerequisites for nursing school completed or planned to be completed before applying.
In three sentences The nursing school is a well-organized and thought-out program. They have a great student/faculty workout center, but the student union building is lacking.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Christian Studies and ministry students. Nursing students. Athletes who dont mind not getting a scholarship. People who prefer a smaller school, but dont want to feel claustophobic.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They play a huge game, kind of like tag, with hundreds of people. It is called Running Man and it really awesome. They have like 5 historical markers on campus and have an awesome history.
Bang for the buck Pretty expensive, but definitely worth it.
What to do for fun The Campus Activities Board at UMHB is really good at having fun events on campus. They also have a Play Day every year before finals that is just a day of awesomeness. However, Belton is a small town, so you have to get real creative to find something to do a lot of the time.
Food and Dining Sodexo caters all of UMHBs food, and quite honestly, they are horrible.
Dorm Life Dorm Life should definitely be experienced. It isnt always the funnest thing, but it is worth doing. Everyone is really friendly, and you will develop a great sense of community. The dorm halls throw on their own events. McClane hall has hall wars where different sections of the dorm compete against each other over the course of a wekk in sports like dodgeball and basketball.
Academic Rigor UMHB is pretty challenging academically. The professors really know they're stuff, and will challenge you to think on your own instead of just absorb a lecture. The core curriculum for Bachelor of Arts is pretty broad, but once you get into your major you can really delve deep into your interests. The professors really try to give yout ools for outside the classroom as well.
Tips for prospective students Incoming students should be aware of what kind of university UMHB is and what they stand for. Know what to expect with a smaller school. A tight knit community, but a smaller campus life. Get to know your professors because they want to know you as well.
In three sentences UMHB is a challenging school academically. UMHB is also very focused spiritually. UMHB competes athletically.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year around Easter we have a Easter Pagent describing Jesus last week of life. It's truly awesome.
What to do for fun There really isn't much. You can go to neighboring cities that are 5 to 1 hour away.
Tips for prospective students Study a lot! Get a planner because you will go crazy and lose assignments. Go talk to your teachers if you are having difficulty in the class, all my professors were always happy to see me ask them for help.
In three sentences The atmosphere is very relaxing. the landscape is beautifull. Overall I love this college.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Hardy (our dining hall) usually has pretty decent food
Dorm Life Small but cozy dorms. The RA's make the transition from home to dorm life easy as the are helpful and really kind. Lots of fun activities too!
Academic Rigor Classes will challenge you to grow and think in different and new ways.
Tips for prospective students Talk to people who currently attend. They are an invaluable source to give you the inside scoop of what being a Crusader is all about.
In three sentences UMHB has become my second home. From the moment I arrived on campus, I knew this was a place I would learn, grow, and make lifelong memories and friendships. It's strong sense of community and tradition gives you everything you want from a college experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are officers patrolling and the campus has a very safe feel to it.
Clubs and Activities Tons of clubs and activities will keep you involved in all your interests.
Bang for the buck Its expensive, being a private school, but there are plenty of scholarships and aid available to assist you.
What to do for fun Belton is a great town and the campus is not far from a great lake with hiking trails and swimming. There are always things going on, from intramural sports to art classes.
Food and Dining Hardy Hall is excellent as far as dorm food goes. An all you can eat buffet with delicious items.
Dorm Life The dorms are very nice and there are always activities like dodgeball and volleyball that are held every once in a while.
Academic Rigor The classes are typical college courses with one exception: the professors take a genuine interest in your learning and developing a personal connection with you; and that makes all the difference.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! There are so many opportunities that everyone should take advantage of.
In three sentences UMHB has a great campus, everything is within walking distance and its beautiful. The staff, professors, and students are very friendly and will help with anything you need. The atmosphere is excellent and it's a very fun place.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who desire to grow their faith while having fun and getting an education.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! :)
Bang for the buck This school is pretty expensive, but the lifelong memories, the genuine education, and the friendships make it worth it.
Am enjoying being here UMHB has a way for EVERY student to get involved. I have joined so many organizations and feel completely at home with each one. The Christian atmosphere brings amazing, genuine, friendships that encourage next steps in faith. I love UMHB and I couldn't dream of being anywhere else.
Am learning a lot The small class sizes make learning very personal and effective. The professors genuinely care about student education and success. I have learned so much about entering the field of education, and my professors have prepared me SO much more than I could have dreamed. I have gotten many opportunities to be in the schools, teaching kids, with so much genuine hands-on experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any! Our athletics program is one of the strongest for schools of this size. The honors program is excellent. Band and choir do a fantastic job. Even if you aren't Christian, the school is welcoming and open to you in many ways. We are just the right distance from larger cities that there is plenty to go and do, while the town of Belton is a charming community and welcoming to its college students. Get involved, or stay on the outside of things, you will still love this school!
Tips for prospective students Pretty much what any school would tell you - get involved! Don't stay in your room all day. Don't go home every weekend, find those activities on campus! Join student government or campus activities! Definitely go to Welcome Week. It's tons of fun and you'll make friends that will last you through your college career and beyond. One great way to get involved is to belong to one of the many wonderful, active churches in the area.
Bang for the buck UMHB is not going to be the cheapest school to go to, but if you can come in with good grades and keep them up, the scholarships are a true blessing. Plus, they offer work study and other financial aid opportunities. Don't let the price tag scare you away, this school is worth it! There are a hundred things to recommend you to this school, including the cute and well-placed town of Belton.
Am enjoying being here Athletics, extracurriculars and more! There are very few things that are missing at this school, and what we don't have, you can start! The strong Christian atmosphere is a definite plus. The majority of the students and faculty truly practice what they preach. The Resident Directors and Assistants are there to counsel and assist you in what you need. Finding friends is not impossible, especially if you are willing to get involved. And really, there are hundreds of ways to plug in, even at a small school. If you really want to be involved in leadership or even create your own group, the staff and professors are more than willing to assist and even join!
Am learning a lot Every single one of my professors has shown a genuine love of their job, desire to help students truly grasp the material and flexibility. The class sizes are small and the professors are excellent! One of the biggest advantages of going to a smaller school is the individualized attention that the professors are able to show you. If you are actively seeking help, they will do the best they can for you. Tutoring and other opportunities are also provided and easy to find. I love learning at my school!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students UMHB practically hands you the money to go to school. Use it! Also, get to know your professors. They want to know you, too.
Bang for the buck The tuition is pricey; however, UMHB offers so many financial aid opportunities that its tuition all but disappears if a student utilizes offered scholarship opportunities. Even without more-than-adequate scholarships, I still recommend attending. The campus is saturated with a familial attitude and all the right values.
Will enjoy being here The campus may not be the biggest in the state, but it's beautiful and warm. The professors offer more aid to their students than educators employed by large schools. The entire staff dedicates its members to the success of the students, not the income the school receives. The people in town are friendly, too!
Will learn a lot Not only will you learn the core curriculum and anything else you'll need to be successful, you'll learn how to live for God. This is a fantastic place to grow as an individual.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus pd is located on a main campus street and is in walking distance from most buildings. while i have not been on campus after dark, i have notice several emergency phones located in the parking lots.
Bang for the buck i'm considering transferring schools because the cost is so high. it's roughly $2000 for a 3 semester hour class. and that's not adding in the various fees that colleges like to throw in. great school, but not if you don't want tons of student debt at graduation.
What to do for fun again, i don't live on campus; however, the various student organizations have a nice way of advertising events on the sidewalks. they were always filled with things such as ministry opportunities to even a dance.
Food and Dining i've only eaten on campus once. the food was decent for a one time meal, but i'm glad it's not what i have to chose from daily.
Dorm Life i commute to campus so i don't know about on-campus living conditions.
Academic Rigor the curriculum is challenging, however, workload was easy to manange.
Tips for prospective students start looking for scholarships and grants now, so that when you apply, you will have additional funds to add to your financial aid award(s).
In three sentences umhb has a great staff and the teachers are always willing to help you advance. the campus is beautiful and easy to find. unfortunately, due to cost, the majority of my financial aid package was loans; and i was only able to take a few classes at a time.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus police are so nice and quick! we have emergency poles all over came where you would press the button if something happened. also, their office is on campus and there is always someone there. umhb is a safe place to be.
Greek Life we don't have any frats or sororities.
Clubs and Activities i play on the basketball team, and in division iii sports your team is truly like your family. but there are also a lot of clubs you could join like young life that is really popular! i dont know much about clubs because basketball really takes up a lot of time. i am however about a residence hall association. this club is great because you do different things for the people living on campus and its great to do a service for the other college students.
Great for these types of students umhb is great for focused students who want to get the most out of college, if you are a student who is more worried about how much you will get to party then you probably shouldnt come here. if you are a student who is determined and know you want to be successful in life, then come to umhb. also, if you want to get closer to god this is a great place to do it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus my favorite thing about our campus, is the history. all over campus you will find different statues relevant to christ and the school, it really adds to the authenticity of the campus.
Bang for the buck umhb is a very expensive school, but i do believe it is somewhat worth the money. it is a small community, and campus, but all this means is everything you may need is right there for you. the faculty understands that money is a problem and really help you the best they can. you definitely get the education you paid for and some of the professors have great connections and will help you find really good jobs.
What to do for fun belton has the weigh station which is a frozen yogurt place and people hang out there alot. but usually people go to temple and killeen to have a good time. there is a lot to do in those towns.
Food and Dining hardy hall is similar to any other cafeteria. there are some things that are really good, and others that are questionable. i personally like hardy and the breakfast is amazing!
Dorm Life the only reason i give dorm like two stars is because of the restrictions, there are only girl and only boy dorms and boys can only be in the dorm on certain visitation days. also there is a room check bi-weekly which isnt that big of a problem because they just want to make sure their furniture is being taken care of, which is understandable. other than that the dorms are great for making new friends and all the residence director are really awesome!
Academic Rigor the academic rigor varies with each major, the most difficult major that we have here is nursing. i have a few friends that are nursing majors and have said that it is hard but definitely worth it. i am a computer information systems major and find that my classes are challenging but extremely passable if you apply yourself. the faculty really care about their students success and most professor will help you as much as they can if you ask.
Tips for prospective students for any school that is considering coming here, make sure you are prepare for strict rules, they are not unbearable but it is a very christian university. also, the more you get involved in different clubs or sports the better the experience you will have. this college truly is what you make it.
In three sentences the university of mary hardin-baylor is the perfect for a serious student who wants to succeed and become closer to god. the students and faculty here are very nice and truly care about you. it is growing every year and is clearly becoming one of the best division iii schools in texas.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i have never felt unsafe at umhb. we have our own campus police that respond very quickly. a large number of students stay on campus so there are always other people walking around. the campus is also very well lit and parking lots are close to all of the buildings.
Greek Life since we are a private christian school we do not take part in greek life.
Clubs and Activities there is a club or activity for just about everything you would want to be involved in. there are clubs for nursing students, foreign language students, prospective teachers and many more academic programs. there are christian clubs to study the bible, fellowship and there is one that cooks dinner every wednesday for everyone to come and fellowship.
Great for these types of students umhb offers a wide variety of academic programs. this is a christian-based school so you are required to go to chapel and take religion courses. if you are already religious this is a great school to grow as a christian. i think this school would be great for any type of student but especially students who are wanting to go to a smaller school. you know the majority of the student body pretty fast thanks to the small number of students allowed in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one thing i appreciate that umhb has is little nooks in the library to study. they even provide bean bags to rest before a big midterm. i have taken plenty of naps on these. cru life on campus is full of school spirit. most people wear school colors (purple and yellow) almost everyday and are proud to be a crusader
Bang for the buck umhb is expensive but compared to other private schools its relatively low. the scholarship office did a great job finding me everything they could and i ended up paying less than i would at a public university. also, the university offers just about everything. they have a gym on campus, a fantastic library, tons of computer rooms and a lot of campus life events that are totally free. also, the level of education i am receiving is worth every penny. i have not encountered a teacher that doesn't care and hasn't been willing to put in their all for me to succeed.
What to do for fun fun things are always planned around campus life. every holiday is celebrated here and sports games are a big thing on campus. we have a great theater program that put on a couple of productions a year. there is also different nights celebrated like indian food night, pizza night, cru night. the campus life writes all the reminders on the sidewalks in front of all the main buildings so you won't miss a thing. it is not hard to jump in and join.
Food and Dining the food at the university of mary hardin-baylor is much like every other university. it's pretty much hit or miss. the cafe in the student center has great breakfast burritos and burgers and there is also a taco side with great chicken quesadillas but the menu is not very long so the food can get boring pretty quick. there is a dining hall but i've actually never ate there. i've heard that breakfast is pretty good there but lunch and dinner are not.
Academic Rigor the classes at umhb are tough and push you to think differently but every class i have taken has prepared me to start my career and to become successful. the resources needed to succeed are there and are easily assessable from the librarians to help with a lengthy research paper to the free math clinics all offered at convenient hours.
Tips for prospective students umhb is a great university to grow and learn. it is a private university that is faith-based in every aspect of the school. the teachers and students are extremely friendly and make you feel at home within the first week of coming to the university. i would suggest being financially prepared before coming here so you can focus on your studies instead of where the money will come from. the university is tough and you will spend many hours and long nights in the library but it is all worth it.
In three sentences mary hardin-baylor is an exceptional school with passionate teachers and wonderful students. the university and staff base their teachings on faith-based learning. umhb is a great environment to grow as a student and a constructive member of society.

Dorm Life The rooms are small but the dorm director is nice.
In three sentences I love this school. It is small enough that you get to know a lot of people and it is easy to walk to classes. The teachers have small enough classes to have one on one relationships with their students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very secure and safe police station is on campus and walking distance.
Greek Life There is none at all there are failed attempts but be aware this school does not support such activities. Therefore do not get your hopes up if you plan on attending here.
Clubs and Activities Not much that I have seen of but I am sure there are you just have to look for them.
Great for these types of students If you enjoy a calm and relax atmosphere, have a strong faith and enjoy the small school atmosphere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is the tradition during football season called running man which is a game that the school likes to have.
Bang for the buck Personally I feel I pay more than what I get. The amount I pay is to overprice for things that I might not even use. You will expect to receive more for the tuition but you will be disappointed.
What to do for fun Not much to do for fun unless you like to go to the gym. Since the campus is small there is nothing much available for the students. Either you make your own fun or you hang out in the dorm all day.
Food and Dining The only places to eat on campus are Hardy hall and the sub. The sub will usually be you best bet when you do not want to eat at Hardys. If you eat at Hardy get ready for the Hardy after-party as they like to call it. Not always the best food but at times it does have its moments.
Dorm Life When it comes to dorm life make sure you chose wisely on what dorm you chose to stay at. For future male students 1st choice should be McClain over Gettys. Also make sure to take a tour of the dorm and not chose without seeing the dorms.
Academic Rigor Do your research on the teacher you chose for your classes if not you might regret it.Also when you take a tour of the school make sure to ask students at the school for opinion on teacher you do not want to end up with a hard teacher.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to find your classes before school start to not worry about arriving late to class on the first day. If possible have a car this will come in handy when it comes to doing anything fun.
In three sentences If you are looking for the small school atmosphere this is the right school for you. People are friendly and welcoming if you are shy there is no problem in making friends.Time management should not be problem when it comes to classes since classes are all walking distance from dorms.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a police station within sight of the quad, which is centered in the campus. If you have any problems, you could probably yell and they would hear you and immediately respond. If you're a little further away, they're only a phone call away and respond very quickly to resolve any issue. I've never felt safer on any campus I have been to.
Greek Life Not much was said about Greek life, and I'm not sure they have any sororities or fraternities. But not everyone is interested in that, and personally that makes it easier to focus on school. Greek life tends to bring out the party animals, and if you didn't want any distractions, this would be good for you.
Clubs and Activities There's always something new going on, and that makes it easy to get involved. Or if you have a new idea, it's easy to get a new organization started. Or for the fun of it, you can join groups in the quad and play Ultimate Frisbee or hit around tennis balls with a golf club.
Great for these types of students If you're looking for a small, intimate campus where it's easy to get to know the other students and faculty, this is a great school for you. If you'd like to get involved in a sport or activity, or create a new organization, that can easily be done here!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some years ago, the original building burned down. One wall still stands, and at the top of that staircase, they hold a reenactment of Jesus' crucifixion every Easter.
Bang for the buck Faculty takes you by the hand and walks you through every process, from transferring to registering for classes. They make sure you don't take any classes that won't go towards your major, thus helping to accelerate you toward your graduation. They're ready and willing to help at a moment's notice, no matter how small an issue you may have.
What to do for fun There is always an event going on. If you can't find something to do from the chalk writing on the sidewalks, check out the website for ideas. It could be from a football game to a concert at the outdoor theater, it's just a mouse-click away to finding something new to do!
Food and Dining Healthy food choices are available in both cafeterias. The school is going to be building, and they're going to add more restaurants so more choices will soon become available. Off campus food choices are close by as well.
Dorm Life Dorms are in close proximity to all the buildings, and the cafeteria is located in at least one of them. They're working to add more which will help create more choices. Healthy food choices are readily available as well. I did not see inside the dorms, but from students I have heard only good things.
Academic Rigor Classes are small and tough. But the small class sizes make it more personalized and easier to receive help. If you still need extra help, there are tutor services available that go late into the day. Classes are challenging but they get you prepared for the real world, and that helps makes you become the best you can be.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit any campuses you're interested in before you apply so you know what you're getting yourself into. Don't ever feel like there's a such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know, it's safer to ask and to know than to not ask and assume because you could be wrong. Or, you could simply miss out on activities or even scholarships that others get simply because they asked!
In three sentences The campus is small and very well kept up so it's pleasing to look at, which makes for a good vibe that makes you want to keep coming back and get involved in other recreational activities. The students and faculty are all friendly and while higher education is valued, there is a laid back feeling amongst students and staff. It creates the feeling that you can do good in school while not feeling extra stressed from others around you, and it actually will lead you to do better in school and life!

Great for these types of students Great for the type of students who like to go to bible studies, or chill out and play guitar and relax.
Bang for the buck It is overall a good school but they could invest in better teachers in some departments.
What to do for fun Hang out with friends or drive to a different city.
Food and Dining Save your bucks for the sub or elsewhere. Hardy isn't that great.
Dorm Life The dorms were pretty nice compared to other colleges I have seen. There are free washers and dryers which is a plus.
Tips for prospective students Don't buy your books at the bookstore because chances are they won't even buy them back. Save money by renting or buying online.
In three sentences The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is overall a very good school to go to. There is a great student community, and it is perfect for someone who wants to build great friendships and community. The education you get here lasts a lifetime.

Great for these types of students hard core christian

Bang for the buck super pricey
What to do for fun There isn't much to do in Belton or at the school.
Food and Dining It is minimum the variety of dining areas they have and hardy, which is the cafeteria is normal flavorless cafeteria food.
Dorm Life This is the restriction part. Boys aren't allowed in the dorms except on two days a week. So if you have guy friends it's a major disadvantage. Even when you move to the apartments there are still restrictions between males and females.
Academic Rigor It is rigorous but the professors are a bit lenient.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for restrictions. The town has little or not much to do on your free time so it's probably best to bring your own car to get around so that you aren't bored all the time.
In three sentences It is a very beautiful small campus that gives a feeling of peace and serenity. The people are very nice but the campus lacks diversity. There is also a little too much supervision which kind of takes from the whole college experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The university is a great place for students who want to major in nursing or education. We have one of the top nursing schools in the country. Also, our education school is very well known.
Food and Dining The food options here are awesome! The dining hall is not only a place where students have tons of options for every meal, but it is also a place where students can socialize and get more acquainted with their fellow classmates. Each meal offers different food options so most of the time there is something students will eat.
Dorm Life Dorm life here is so great because each dorm is like their own little family. Each dorm will have events once every month where their residents can come out and get to know each other better while having a great time. Each dorm is great in their own ways!
Academic Rigor The school can be very challenging at times but all of the teachers at UMHB are here to help and see that their students succeed. Unlike high school, you have to study much more because the professors won't spoon feed you the information. Students have to work hard here and usually get the grade they have earned.
In three sentences The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is exactly what they aim to be in their mission statement; preparation of students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society. They really strive to prepare students for the business world and to fully equip them with the skills needed to be a successful member of society. I believe that this school is very good at what they are doing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police keep the area very safe! They keep the students as far from danger as possible. Belton is also a very safe place to live.
Greek Life Not much Greek life on campus. I don't think there is much of a program going on.
Clubs and Activities For being such a small school, UMHB offers a lot of sports and clubs for the students to participate in. Also, the school holds a dance in the Spring each year that is a campus wide event.
Great for these types of students This is a fantastic school for Christian minded students. I recommend this school for people from different denominations.
Bang for the buck This is definitely one of the more affordable private schools! The school offers a competitive financial aid package as well. Do not be discouraged by the list price of tuition. Do yourself a favor and look into what kinds of scholarships the FASFA will give you from UMHB.
What to do for fun There are a few things to do in Belton. One of the high points is the lake. Belton Lake isn't too far from campus, and it is a lot of fun. There is a rock climbing gym also about fifteen minutes from campus, and three bowling alleys about twenty minutes away. Movie theaters are not too far from campus. There is a shopping mall about ten minutes away from campus.
Food and Dining I recommend eating out over eating at the dining hall. Essentially, you are eating your high school's cafeteria food. However, eating at the dining hall gives students an excellent opportunity to meet new people. Definitely makes up for the lack of quality foods.
Dorm Life It is much more exciting living in the dorms on campus over the apartments. In the dorms, you live where all of the action happens on campus. Living in the apartments sets you far away from the campus life.
Academic Rigor Not the toughest school to beat, but definitely brings the heat! Schoolwork can get extremely challenging, but not impossible. Keep your head up and you will be fine.
Tips for prospective students Stay on task. Many students struggle finding a balance between their schoolwork and other committments. It is easy to become distracted from earning your degree.
In three sentences UMHB is an excellent small private school with a lot to offer its students. It is a Baptist founded university, but I feel accepted here as a Lutheran taught Christian. The school's academics are exceptional.

Food and Dining We have a main cafeteria which is like an all you can eat. They usually have different things every day. There is also the sub which is like a fast food place. Although a new student center is on the way and there will be restaurants inside
Dorm Life Dorm life involves room checks and a little bit of rules. Other than that its fun you can have all types of dorm activities.
Academic Rigor Classes are always on task and willing to learn. Professors cover material in detail.
Tips for prospective students For incoming students if you like to actually be known by your teacher than this is a great institution for you. There are many things you can do at UMHB also to get involved.
In three sentences I find this institution a great environment for learning and a great place to be. Students and Faculty are friendly haven't seen any conflict the programs are amazing. I'm currently in the Kinesiology program and plan to get my degree in Kinesiology

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Police is awesome! I know most of the officers by just seeing them on Campus. They really make you feel safe and secure, because they're friendly, but on point all the time.
Greek Life We have academic fraternities, but no social ones.
Clubs and Activities UMHB literally has hundreds of ways to get involved, and it's a pretty easy process to start any organization you want to on campus.
Great for these types of students Students looking to have fun while having real life hands on experience for their future occupations or callings.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have something called Running Man, where people start at the Field House on campus and run through the woods behind the President's House all the way across campus to the Meyer Christian Studies Building while people in Trucks with Flashlights try to catch them via Flashlight tag. We also have something called Campus Run, where we get in all our cars around Vans Circle and drive through the streets of Belton screaming, honking and cheering on the way to the Football Stadium. We also have traditions relating to our school song, and Candlelight Ceremonies for Graduation Seniors.
Bang for the buck Because the University is vastly expanding, the money you pay will be worth even more in the future. I think I'm getting a great college experience for the amount of money I'm having to pay.
What to do for fun Kick it with friends. Belton just got a new Movie Theater and there building more every year. Plus, Harker Heights, Temple and Killeen are 30 minutes away and all have tons of options.
Food and Dining The dining halls are good, and always trying to improve based off student suggestion. We're about to get a new Student Union Building with a Starbucks and Chick-fil-a. So food is going to get MUCH better!
Dorm Life The RDs and RAs really want to make a lasting impact in the lives of students. The community on campus is unlike any other. We truly know almost everybody's name.
Academic Rigor Depending on you're degree plan, classes tend to be harder. Nursing and Business is what we're most known for, but the other disciplines are well rounded and making strides in their fields.
Tips for prospective students Visit the Campus. Come on a Sader Day or Preview Weekend and get to know not only the students but the faculty and staff. If you do decided to come to UMHB, DO WELCOME WEEK! It's a great way to meet students in you're upcoming class, so you make a smooth transition to college. Also, choose one thing you're interested in your first semester and get plugged in.
In three sentences This school has clear vision to go from Texas's Best Kept Secret to The Top Choice for Christian Higher Education in the South West, and are meeting that goal. The faculty and staff show a love and commitment to students like I've never seen or heard of before, making a direct connection and investment in the lives of their students. The amount of service opportunities, leadership positions, friendly atmosphere and global connections, make the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor truly Education for Life and an Experience for a Lifetime.

Tips for prospective students Take advantage of all the student life activities that they have to offer!

Categories Comments Food and Dining The campus has a Student Union Building (SUB) that you go to get snacks, drinks, coffee and lunch and breakfast items on the go. Also, there is a main cafeteria hall that has a variety of buffets for all three meals of the day!
Dorm Life The first year dorms are awesome. There are many to choose from on campus and they are only 5 minutes walk away from the academic buildings.
Academic Rigor Even though this is a college, the classes and teachers make it feel like high school all over again. The class sizes are small, so there is a better opportunity for learning and asking questions without the stress of being in a class of two hundred.
Tips for prospective students This school will not make you feel like just a number. The staff and teachers really get to know you on a friendly professional level. Also, going here it is great to get involved in some of this school's many organizations and clubs.
In three sentences The campus offers so much for its students, especially if you are a nursing major like me. The campus is beautiful even though it is small, but it is a private school with 3,000 kids. The college's Christian affiliation is nondenominational which makes it comfortable for students who follow another religious view.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety here is incredible. I have never felt unsafe on this campus, and the police are very promt if there ever is a problem that occurs.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs to get involved with at UMHB. In fact, I started an official campus club called ASTRA of UMHB. It is a club for those who wish to do community service in Belton and the surrounding areas.
Great for these types of students For students who do not want to feel overwhelmed by a larger school, and want a conservative environment, this school is absolutely perfect for them!
Bang for the buck For the amount that tuition costs here, I do believe that you are getting your money's worth for a degree here.
What to do for fun Belton is a small town, but it offers the lake and many other things to do for college students here. UMHB has many different sporting events and campus activities that a person can do for fun.
Food and Dining The food and dining here is good. We have several restaurants in the Student Union Building, and Hardy Hall, the cafeteria offers a wide selection of food.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great here at UMHB. They are very good about trying to get those living in the dorms to become friends with each other and get connected through dorm activities, dorm parties, or any other functions which they put on.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor here is not extremely harsh. This school lays out the rules and expectations very clearly and if they are not follwed then yes there will be punishment but the punishment is not harsh. They are not out to punish people, and the punishment could be just a small fine.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students is to get involved in anything and everything you can. This school offers so many neat opportunites for students to participate in here on campus and it is such a great way to build community with other students.
In three sentences This college is great because everybody knows everybody and everyone is looking out for each other. Because the school is small students have more of a bond with their professors, which makes us feel important. Also, the campus is absolutely beautiful and the environment is conservative.

Bang for the buck Definitely worth it.
Food and Dining Basically a buffet whenever you enter, and it counts as a meal. Grill/Pizza/ and even an exhibition section for picky eaters like me. Starbucks and Chick-fil-a will be on campus with the opening of the Student Union Building.
Dorm Life They allow two different types of dorms, the main difference is that one has communal bathrooms with slightly updated furniture and free maid services, and the other has bathrooms in each room with slightly older furniture and the students clean up their own mess. Both have computer/game/tv rooms. No curfew.
Academic Rigor For the engineering department, as I have said before, has people who have been in industry for quite some time and the IED teacher is coming from a former MIT teacher with a degree in Aerospace engineering.
Tips for prospective students - Be yourself - Be ready with Ramen for the weekends because the cafeteria is closed on Saturday and on Sunday, they only serve lunch. Unless you want to get Chick-fil-A once the new Student Union building opens this coming September. - Tolerate and accept people of different faiths
In three sentences Absolutely amazing pre-engineering program, the entire staff has been in the industry for at least a decade and the head of the engineering department has worked for NASA for ten years Students have many opportunities for internships. After their third year in UMHB, the students are going to be transferred to Baylor in Waco with general knowledge of engineering to allow them to transfer between majors without a backdrop in credits.

Great for these types of students It is a small Christian campus. If you are friendly, you are likely to make friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have this tradition called running-man... basically, it's a big game of intense hide-and-seek with trucks and flashlights in the dark.
Bang for the buck Landscaping is nice, but I feel as if most of my tuition goes toward watering the grass.
What to do for fun Well, if you are looking for society's version of fun you have come to the wrong college. It's a small, quiet town and the most fun you can have is at the park or town square.
Food and Dining If you are not picky you will enjoy the food. For those who prefer something other than the cafeteria head over to the sub for a grilled cheese sandwich with some fries.
Dorm Life Dorm RAs are not just enforcers, but mentors! Expect to make friends upon checking in. The dorms are generally for freshman and sophomores, most upperclassmen choose to move to the on-campus apartments.
Academic Rigor The grading system is slightly different. In general, don't be surprised to see that your 90 is actually considered a B.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! It's one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
In three sentences In all honesty, this school has been a complete blessing! The campus is small, the students are friendly, and the classes are very engaging. The cost is well worth the personal involvement this school puts into your education.

Bang for the buck This school is rather expensive to attend.
What to do for fun There are numerous sporting complexes here for intermurals. Many spiritual growth opportunities are available.
Food and Dining Both of the food courts on campus are convenient and cheap. The food could use a little help but if you are trying to eat healthy they are a great place to go to get a good start without spending to much money.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not bad at all here. Most of the dorms are up to date. They provide activities along with campus life to make your time in the dorms memorable. They also do a great job at matching roommates that turn into life long friends.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging but not impossible. Good time management will really help when it comes to your course load.
Tips for prospective students Always go to class the professors are more likely to help you when they know who you are. Try not to overload your self, just because you took 8 classes in high school doesn't mean you can take that many in college.
