The quality of education is well worth the amount you pay for tuition. UMBC has its standards up there with Johns Hopkins and even Harvard without the outrageous prices.

Because UMBC is fairly new ('70s), they tend to increase tuition to fund their newest building projects such as renovating the academic and residential buildings. There are also fees for specific departments that every student is charged regardless of if they'll be using the service or not- most notably is the $400 Athletic fee charged each semester for maintenance and upkeep of the RAC (which only very recently got new equipment, but still isn't big enough to support the student body). Since it's a state school, the per-credit-hour tuition could be worse though.

It's a state school, so its fairly reasonable, and with scholarships and grants and such, its pretty nice considering its actually a pretty high quality school.
