Categories Comments Great for these types of students looking for a small school education, and a big school weekend atmosphere. the student teacher ratio, 17:1, is the size of Rhodes or Vanderbilt. The Grove on game day is the #1 place to tailgate, and you cant get that anywhere else. go visit! go rebs!
Tips for prospective students VISIT CAMPUS. i was not a fan before i actually went to campus. i have visited Baylor, Arkansas, Texas, LSU, and ULL, and no where gives me the warm-fuzzies like Ole Miss. its different than anywhere you can ever go.
Bang for the buck Whatever it is, if you're in-state, or out of state like myself, Ole Miss is worth it. It has everything you could want.
Will enjoy being here oxford is a small town with big city life. The people are friendly, it's a clean city, and it's a football town. The town supports the school, and everyone loves the Rebels. It truly isan amazing place
Will learn a lot if you want it, in some way, ole miss offers it. there's nothing ole miss cant teach you

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of Mississippi is a unique, close-knit environment. It is a small campus, so everything is nearby. Even if your late for class, it will only be 2 minutes late! Don't underestimate the campus though. It has ALOT to offer. They have squeezed SO much important useful things in the small acreage is rests upon, it will take you your entire 4 years to discover what all it has to offer... and then some!
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask you teachers questions, thats what they are their for, but that goes for every university. For Ole Miss, be apart! Get out there! Go to football games! Drag a friend along, even if you didn't finish your home work. All ways make time to see them rebels play! Also, consider going greek and joining a panhellenic fraternity or sorrority! Ole Miss has some of the most acclaimed greek societies in the country!
Bang for the buck Oh yes! Ole Miss is one of the most ecnomical state universities in the US. Definitely consider The University of Mississippi for that. All of my teachers have gone out of their way to be certain that I was gaining, and was equipped with all of the tools and information I needed to make my learning experience the best possible.
Am enjoying being here From ASB elections, daily polls at the union, campus events (like the black and white ball), Raves at the library, Ford Center performances, Grovin' in the University Grove on game day, FOOTBALL games with previously No. 4 Ranked Ole Miss team, and just the campus, it is a blast! Ole Miss is the perfect place to be! Come be apart!
Am learning a lot Wow! My first year at the University of Mississippi has been a blast!! I can't hardly believe my last final will be tomorrow! I have learned so much! From my EDHE class, to my Biology! Even things I thought I already knew have been broadened; just be being apart of the diverse group of individuals, that make up The University of Mississippi.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Ole Miss is a great university for all types of students. If you are looking to get a top of the line education, you can find it here. Ole Miss is known as the Harvard of the South for a reason. If you are looking to have some fun while in college, Ole Miss offers that too. Whether it is participating in student organizations, Greek life, or nights on the town, Ole Miss is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students Anyone who is looking to go to Ole Miss needs to get involved. Ole Miss has so much to offer and getting involved helps make the experience that much more amazing. Getting involved includes but is not limited to student organizations, it also involves talking to professors. The professors here are always willing to help and introducing yourself allows them to recognize you and notice that you are serious about your education and are wanting to get the most out of your education.
Bang for the buck The University of Mississippi is a university surrounded by success. Whether through the alumni or current students, Ole Miss is represented by outstanding people. It is because Ole Miss has so much to offer academically and through activities that it is worth the cost. Although it is not as expensive as most, Ole Miss definitely is worth every penny.
Am enjoying being here Ole Miss is an amazing university to attend. Even the city of Oxford opens many great experiences for a college student to enjoy. Everyone I have met around campus and in town have been very friendly and welcoming. The campus is absolutely beautiful and everything is easily accessible. The Student Programming Board entertains with movies every month and there is always something to do on campus. Whether you have a car or not does not matter because the university buses travel the entire town and make living on or off campus enjoyable as well.
Am learning a lot Ole Miss has offered me an experience of a lifetime. The Honors College is ranked very highly nationwide as well as the Lott Leadership Institute and Croft Institute. Every class is designed to allow a student to learn as much as possible and the professors are very welcoming and act as though they want their students to do their best. It is very likely that a student who goes to Ole Miss will be very happy with their academic opportunities.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Involved, social, outgoing, interested in Greek life, focused, hard workers
Tips for prospective students Even if you're just a tiny bit interested in Ole Miss, TAKE A VISIT. Many people will say that just one time on the campus and in Oxford was what made them decide to attend school here. Also, apply for the Honors College! It's a huge perk because you get priority registration for classes. You also get many opportunities to make connections with future potential employers.
Bang for the buck At Ole Miss, you get a top-notch education at an extremely low price. Additionally, they're very generous with scholarships as long as you take the time to apply. Even as an out of state student, I'm paying way less to attend school here than I would at many of my in-state universities.
Am enjoying being here Oxford is an AMAZING town. The food is great, there are many local boutiques to shop at, and the night life is unbeatable.
Am learning a lot Ole Miss is considered the Harvard of the South, and it's no joke. It may be easy to get into the school, but it's not super easy to stay in. You definitely have to do the work and plan on learning to time manage and avoid procrastinating!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Get involved and meet people. Academics are important, but you need a full college experience and Ole Miss will provide that if you want it.
Bang for the buck I have received enough scholarships to cover everything.
Will enjoy being here There are a ton of opportunities to get involved and a ton of different organizations to join.
Will learn a lot If you try hard and keep up with your course work you will be fine. Some teachers are great; others can be kind of boring.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that really don't want to be Mr. Big Shot on Wall Street and are happy to remain in Mississippi, Arkansas, ect. Also it's good from students that like to party and want be athletes.
Tips for prospective students Be sure you have the minimum requirements to get in. When you get here be sure not to party too hard. Because believe it or not you can still flunk out here.
Bang for the buck Since it's the #2 party school in the country, I think the word bang should send a clear message. Ole Miss is fairly cheep when stacked against other public universities. The trade-off is job seeking power. You can get a job with a UM degree and you can get positions as a doctor, lawyer ect. in the South. But mega-law firms on Wall Street aren't recruiting from Ole Miss and won't be anytime soon I think. So be sure that if you come here you don't want to leave the South.
Will enjoy being here For me personally I wouldn't enjoy being here, but people that enjoy parties, raves, ect. will feel right at home.
Will learn a lot Ole Miss is just another college. Sure you'll learn something, but it's nowhere near the level of schools like the Ivies and Stanford, Duke, or Vanderbilt. Harvard of the South? Not hardly. I don't think you can get into Harvard with a 15 on the ACT and 1.6-yes you can get into Ole Miss with such credentials.

Tips for prospective students Well, I'm one myself, but I would say don't stress out too much about the costs, but really think about what you want to do with your life, does UM offer that, and do you think that UM is the best school with this program.
Will enjoy being here I think that I will REALLY enjoy being here I've been contacting them and they've been contacting me since 11th grade!! So they've got me hyped up!!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like to be busy and meet a wide variety of people from all over the country.
Tips for prospective students If you aren't from the South, be open minded. There is nothing better than going to a big Southern school for college. Ole Miss has a sense of tradition that I know I wouldn't have gotten in a East Coast school.
Bang for the buck Living in Oxford is so much cheaper than living in New Jersey. You can do a lot of things for very little money.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and the people are all very friendly. There is always so much to do between the football games and tailgate in the grove to going to frat parties or just hanging out in Oxford Square
Am learning a lot Professors are great and you will do fine as long as you go to classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is a special force of cops only for the university plus the town police. they are on horses, bicycles, dirt bikes, motorcycles, golf carts and cars. there are safety booths everywhere so in case of emergency can be pressed and set off an alarm and alert the authorities. campus always feels safe and nightly plenty of people are out enjoying the grove or out for a run.
Greek Life very large at ole miss. nearly everyone you meet is greek affiliated.
Clubs and Activities it can be a little overwhelming at all the clubs and activities. something for everyone, literally.
Great for these types of students to be honest, mostly at ole miss are students who are rich. other students can find places to fit in but they are typed as rich and preppy typically.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the grove!! it is a tradition to tailgate and hang out and party there before all football games. it's 10 rolling acres spread through the middle of the campus and is always packed full of people. william faulkner's house and grave offer for some old traditions.
What to do for fun the town of oxford, mississippi is a very small one. there is a movie theatre and the town square offers locally owned (and expensive) places to shop and good world renowned restaurants. the night life is a very large part of the life of oxford.
Food and Dining mostly fast food is offered on campus in the union but there are a few other places to eat on campus for fresh food.
Dorm Life ehhh, okay. they're building new ones and knocking down old. some of the new ones are extremely nice.
Academic Rigor harvard of the south definitely describes the school well. plenty of reasons that is the perfect name.
Tips for prospective students begin here. it's a hard transition for most students who attend community college first due to the academic nature.
In three sentences the university of mississippi is placed in the heart of true southern hospitality. the school is beautiful and have some of the best staff you can find. the classes are competitive and tough but that's what makes the school a good one. partying is a forte for students but we're also very intelligent students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This university is great for well-rounded, ambitious, studious students. Also students are ready to look at things from a different perspective, and learn to appreciate new ideals about almost everything.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard. Have a lot of fun. Enjoy your first, second, and third Grove experiences.
Bang for the buck You will surely see everything you've paid for being put into place, because every cent spent will only be utilized for you benefit.
Am enjoying being here Everyday there's something to do, a club to join, or a quiet place to sit and relax. My days are always filled with laughter and fun.
Am learning a lot The amount of information you'll be exposed to is so large that it may become overwhelming.

Tips for prospective students Although some people go to Ole Miss to party, it is a serious school. They have an excellent pharmacy, pre-med, and law school to start. You should be prepared to work but know that you need to have some fun sometimes, and people will most definitely help you have fun.
Bang for the buck Ole Miss is a little expensive, but it gives you the best of both worlds as they say. It's a big school and a small school put into one.
Am enjoying being here The Ole Miss campus is beautiful. There is not too much to do, but if you're mostly studying, there are plenty of things to fill your free time with.
Am learning a lot Ole Miss has a lot to offer, and their advanced courses are difficult but interesting. They will definitely push you.

Will enjoy being here It's a beautiful campus, with a beautiful student body. Everyone is friendly, so long as you are as well. It has a sort of small town, home feeling. I always enjoy visiting.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Self motivated students who know how to strike a balance between socializing and school work. There's plenty of parties going on, but you can't go to all of them and expect to have good grades.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and fill out that scholarship application. You'll increase your chances of getting free money.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, the tuition is rather ridiculous. But if your scholarships cover all your expenses, then go for it.
Am enjoying being here There's lots to do on campus and also around the town in Oxford.
Am learning a lot Some teachers are really tough and some are a joke.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who know how to balance personal life and school work. And students that are willing to work hard and have a great college experience at The University Of Mississippi. HOTTY TODDY!!
Tips for prospective students The tips I have is when you come to college do not try to overload yourself with hours you have plenty of time. Get everything handled before you come to college as in financial aid so you don't have to stay in the offices. Because they do be full especially at the beginning of the school year. Learn how to balance partying and studying or that will be the death of you figuratively speaking. But basically just have your head on right and don't rush.
Bang for the buck It is worth the money which is alot. Be prepared to come to the University and pay for everything pretty much. That is the only negative thing I find is that the student pays for pretty much everything. Make sure if you plan on coming here to get scholarships to help with books and extra money in your pocket.
Am enjoying being here On the campus it is never boring every day their is some sort of entertainment in the union or something going on. On the weekends for home games it is pretty full and awesome to go to the grove. And most people go later to the Square or other places.
Am learning a lot I am learning alot from the teachers I have. They are hard if you do not try or study basically for some classes you may have to teach yourself. Do not think English is going to be easy in college because it was in high school that is a big mistake I made. Be prepared to think and work hard. But another plus is teachers will help you pass their class with letting you do work over and turn it in for a brand new grade which is personally great!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Ole Miss is great for students interested in studying medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, accountancy, business, law, public policy, journalism, etc. It is great for students who want to go to a university, but not one where they will get lost and just become a part of the crowd. Ole Miss is a small community, but it is still big enough to not feel constrained.
Tips for prospective students My best advice for prospective Ole Miss students is to be prepared to study. The curriculum can be challenging, but it is doable. Another piece of advice I would give is to learn how to balance. Oxford, and Ole Miss too, offer numerous opportunities for clubs, on-campus organizations, and other extracurricular activities, but if you get too involved in outside activities your grades will drop. It is most important to learn how to balance school and fun, which varies for different people, and the sooner you do the better.
Bang for the buck The University of Mississippi is definitely worth the money. It guarantees to put its graduates in the best position for finding jobs, being accepted into graduate and professional schools, and being prepared for whatever future faces them.
Am enjoying being here Oxford is the perfect college town. It is full of history and includes unique and interesting shops, restaurants, and local establishments. Aside from Oxford's charm, the University of Mississippi campus is absolutely beautiful year-round. The Ole Miss family is also very welcoming. From being in the Grove during football season to the person sitting next to you in class, the Ole Miss community helps anyone feel right at home.
Am learning a lot The University of Mississippi has a highly qualified staff. All of the different schools on campus are equipped with faculty that are passionate about the subjects they teach. Being in a classroom with teachers that are interested in their subject provides an excellent learning environment. The professors also make themselves available for help outside the classroom as well as suggesting additional resources that will help with mastering course material.

Will enjoy being here I love the campus and I love the South. I am from the Southwest, but the South feels like home to me. Both the school and the town look like they have a lot to offer.
Will learn a lot This is one of the only schools that has the grad program I am looking into. I am excited for all I would be able to learn.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I believe that this school has a reasonable tuition price for today's standards. The school is well-kept as far as nice buildings and cut grass. The teachers are well-educated, helpful, and want to make sure that the students are learning. Also, I believe that most people will fit in somewhere. The four years spent at this school, making memories while learning, will be worth the price.
Will enjoy being here I felt at home on campus, which is very beautiful with tons of trees and large areas to hang out with friends or study on a nice day. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly and helpful.
Will learn a lot This school is usually known for its party atmosphere, but if you get into the right classes, especially the Honors College, you can learn a lot from this school. The professors whom I have talked with seem very educated and enthusiastic about their job, which usually means they will ensure that you will learn everything that you need to know and more.

Greek Life We are known to have one of the hardest rushes in the nation. Ole Miss is a huge greek school. You need to go greek to get the full experience.
Clubs and Activities Ole Miss offers every type of involvement you can imagine.
Great for these types of students Social, active, friendly, down to earth.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tailgating in the Grove is a tradition.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for, for the most part. Some fees were a little undermentioned, but they weren't hefty.
What to do for fun Go to the square. Go to the grove on football game days. Many events come up through the year, like live concerts. Dierks Bentley was the most recent one.
Food and Dining There are many places the Ole Miss meal plan will apply, like Chick-fil-a and Subway, which are located in the student union. The cafetaria food is pretty good.
Dorm Life The newest dorms are really nice, but some of the older dorms are a little out of date. The newest dorms are for freshman interest groups, which is a great way to meet people. Ole Miss has a really good way of letting students get the roommate they want, too.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the classes vary in rigor.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply to the programs and scholarships as early as possible. The sooner you apply, the less stress you'll have.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful. There are many courses and majors available, so finding a major you'll love is easy. The student body is diverse, and many out of state or foreign students attend.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Small campus makes everyone feel at ease and safe. There's safety buttons around campus as well.
Greek Life Lots of people are supportive and really nice. They want to see you succeed and do whats best. Even if it's figuring out you don't want to be greek.
Clubs and Activities Lots of options! If they don't have it, make your own club. The university loves that!
Great for these types of students Greek life is very kind and supportive. Looking for friends? Go greek!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tailgating in the grove. Don't miss it. It's the experience of a lifetime.
Bang for the buck Things are very expensive here! AKA, shopping and dinner at the square. Save your money.
What to do for fun Frat row always has something going on. The guys are gentlemen, so you're not worried about being taken advantage of.
Food and Dining The union has a great variety. Johnson Commons has gourmet food. I enjoy it now and then.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fine, it's college. But the Ridges are new and very modern.
Academic Rigor Class sizes are doable, it isn't overwhelming. In addition, theres lots of tutoring on campus.
Tips for prospective students Girls must have nike shorts, big t-shirts and nike running shoes. Thats all they wear here.
In three sentences Ole Miss has changed my perception of college completely. I've felt that I've been welcomed into an environment where I can learn and grow. Professors WANT to see you succeed, they're here to be your cheerleader.

Categories Comments Greek Life rather big here. this year, the sororities had nearly 2000 girls rush. i suggest doing it because it is an experience, even if you decide not to join an organization.
Clubs and Activities i can't even name a fifth of the stuff offered here.
Great for these types of students students who want a school that is well known yet small. it is very picturesque and has the grandeur of a small private university with the money of a large state university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus hotty toddy--learn it! always remember--we're not snobs, we're just better than you! william faulkner lived here.
Bang for the buck i am from out of state so i have to pay a little more to get there but the school so beautiful, you won't mind. but i feel it is reasonably priced.
What to do for fun whatever you like, you can find it here. the turner center is the greatest part of campus and the groups are endless. sports, church, exercise and gaming clubs can be seen all over campus all the time.
Food and Dining the best breakfast is at magnolia kitchen and really good turkey sausage at the jc. there are a lot of options for meat lovers, a fair amount of choices for vegetarians, but little completely vegan options.
Dorm Life it all depends on who your neighbors are. it can make life amazing or awful.
Academic Rigor the rigor of class is dependent on the level of class you take. my writing 101 class is easy but my french 211 is rather challenging.
Tips for prospective students be prepared for football games--they are amazing. nothing is better than waking up saturday morning and cruising the grove. also prepare for greek rush--it's a big deal.
In three sentences ole miss is the greatest school in the nation. i could not be happier walking through the grove or the circle or studying under peddle-yates chapel. ole miss is truly my home.

Dorm Life it has been a wonderful freshman experience. i have met and made new friends. the dorm is clean.

Tips for prospective students they should come visit the campus and go to classes. my cousin came to visit the honors classes and was really impressed. they should also visit some of the sporting events.

What to do for fun Party or walk up to the square to hang up.
Food and Dining Not very healthy but tastes pretty good.
Dorm Life Not the most sanitary and quite loud. Crosby and Martin/Stockard both have stores in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Really just depends on your major.
Tips for prospective students 1. Schedule your classes back to back. 2. Only miss when necessary the attendance policy is serious. 3. Do not buy any books until you have been to the class.
In three sentences Ole Miss is a great school and atmosphere. During football season there is no better place to be. Ole Miss is an awesome school.

What to do for fun Attend sporting events, picnics in the Grove, a day trip to Sardis lake or Memphis - millions of possibilities for such a small town!
In three sentences The school's motto is experience amazing, and I couldn't describe Ole Miss in a nutshell any other way. From academics, to student life, to opportunities, my experience here has been nothing but positive. My experiences have opened my mind and my eyes to the opportunities surrounding me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Alerts about the isolated incidents of open theft, robbery, etc are promptly given, no major issues known of outside of a panty thief
Greek Life The Greek Life here is notorious. The few cultural Fraternities and Sororities are not highly visible-sadly-but the Greek Life that is seen definitely provides a source of community, at times too much.
Clubs and Activities There aren't as diverse a selection of clubs as many other campuses at smaller Universities elsewhere seem to provide, but with its location and the tradition of the campus, clubs and activities for many people are existent if not all that plentiful. However the colleges and many ethnic/art clubs do provide a great source of things to do and see.
Great for these types of students Partiers, the academically inclined, basically the University can handle nearly any type of student.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Be sure to find out about the doorknob to the universe and the secluded nooks of the library- they are great for sleeping. Also, so are the couches in Byrant Hall.
Bang for the buck Definitely not the most progressive place in the world but it does provide a quality education comparable with several larger known places when one takes academically rigorous courses of study.
What to do for fun Hang out with friends at Sardis Lake at Night, eat ( really this can be fun), go to the Square occaisionally to barhop or check out the music acts playing around town. Generally, grab a Local Voice and see what's happening.
Food and Dining The food on campus is what one would expect from a campus cafeteria but the food off campus can offer a much wider variety. From Greek, Japanese, Thai, and well known Southern cooking the eateries on and near the square or on Jackson Ave. provide a good plethora of options.
Dorm Life Definitely not the best but not the worst. The since of community in the dorms is great if you are lucky, but if you are the quite introverted type it can be a strain. Still, there is no place like the dorms that provides such a high chance for increasing friendships and acquaintances.
Academic Rigor It's there you just have to be willing to seek it out.
Tips for prospective students If you are there for a party you can find it easily, however sometimes it seems as if the academically rigorous things are hard to find. If you are a student you looks for a challenge be sure to become well acquainted with the faculty and staff that provide such challenges, they know who to direct you to. Additionally be wary of Oxford's charm, while it is blindingly beautiful and wonderful at times, it can be a strain on the pocket so if you are looking to save a buck Oxford's renown square might be a place to avoid until one can avoid the cover charge for being underage.
In three sentences The University is a great school for those that seek out the superb academic oppotunities available ( e.g. the Sally McDonnell Barksdale College, the Croft Institute, etc). Yet without these the University would just be a regular run- of-the-mill State University with an exceedingly gorgeous campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus you see the UPD often.
Greek Life Huge Greek life on Campus for men and women.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Grove is notorious for football season is often rated best tailgating in college football.
What to do for fun There is alot to do on campus and off campus. The square downtown has bars, shoppping, and festivals to attend.
Food and Dining Great places to eat in Oxford and on campus.
Dorm Life If you're a freshman Stokard (male) and Martin (female) are the best.
Tips for prospective students Listen to your advisors, they know what they are doing. Ask around about classes and teachers before taking their class.
In three sentences The University has teachers that are excited about their job. Students enjoy the campus atmosphere, it is very easy to walk from class to class. The University is ranked number one in attractive students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety University Police Department is a top priority on this campus. They try their very best to ensure the safety of students. They will even give you a ride back to your dorm if you're coming from the library or somewhere late at night. They want to give a safe and warm environment for students.
Greek Life Greek life is a huge part of Ole Miss students lives. About 20% of the student population is affiliated with a Greek organization. To lessen the pledge classes in some of the sororities, the campus is soon adding a new sorority which is great.
Clubs and Activities There is so much to get involved with while on-campus. Associated Student Body, Green Dot Violence Prevention, and other kinds of clubs and activities are all around to get into. Even off-campus you can find something interesting to do. You can even start your own club or activity that would seem interesting to students.
Great for these types of students Ole Miss fits any type of student mostly. Like I previously said, the University is very family oriented and will welcome you like a brother or sister anytime, anyway.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ole Miss is deep in tradition. We have something called the Rebel Yell or best known as the Hotty Toddy cheer. The phrase Hotty Toddy can be used among Rebel fans alike to greet each other or either just cheer like this: when someone screams are you ready? then everyone responds, hell yeah! Damn right! Hotty toddy gosh almighty! Who the hell are we? Hey! Flim flam bim bam Ole Miss by damn! We also are known for our tailgating. People tailgate religiously here during football season. The Grove is a huge piece of land in front of the student union and in the middle of campus which is filled with hundreds of red and blue tents filled with thousands of Rebel fans alike. It's an experience you'll have to see for yourself.
Bang for the buck Some options on-campus are a bit pricey, but yet, the Associated Student Body and its president, Kimberly Dandridge, are working very hard to make improvements on that within the next year.
What to do for fun Oxford is home to many restaurants and the popular in town Square. In the Square, you have many restaurants, bars, clubs, book stores, and even frozen yogurt. Students enjoy going there on the weekends after a long week of classes. During the fall, football season begins and there's the biggest prime of the season: tailgating. The tailgating here is huge on football Saturdays and students enjoy dressing in Sunday attire to attend the festivities which is highly fun.
Food and Dining The food and dining here is good, not great, but good. The Johnson Commons is one of the main places on campus that most students eat. Students believe that the JC needs to improve, and if they are listening, improvements will start to begin soon. Students also eat at the student union which most students would prefer because they have Subway, Chik-fil-a, Burger Studio, Zoca, Magnolia Kitchen, Toss It Up, and coming in the fall, Pinkberry and POD Market and POD Express. Students want more healthier options to eat and snack on campus. Since the food and dining department is moving with a new company, healthier options will begin to be available starting in the fall.
Dorm Life Dorm life, in my case, is fun. The dorm I reside in is co-residential and it gives an awesome experience for freshman. The Residential College and the Luckyday Residential College are also co-residential and also some of the newest dorms here on campus since about 2007. Some of the other dorms are not co-residential, but are still up to par even though they are not as new. In July 2012, the new dorms being built will be ready for the new incoming freshman. They are in for very nice complexes.
Academic Rigor Academics here at the University are highly important. Our top programs are Pre-professional programs (Pre-medical, pre-dental, Pre-nursing, etc.), Biology, pharmacy, law, journalism, and even intensive Chinese. Many students take academics here seriously. Most people you meet have big plans to do something with whatever they major in as I do.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, although you might be nervous stepping onto a college campus such as Ole Miss, don't be nervous. The people here at the University are welcoming anyone and everyone with open arms. Giving you an experience like no other is what we are all about here. It's easy to connect with everyone here especially when getting involved.
In three sentences The University of Mississippi, best known as Ole Miss, is amazingly beautiful. It holds the values of family close to heart. Everywhere you go, there's a happy and smiling face that just welcomes you warmly.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There is something for everyone; traditional or non traditional.
Bang for the buck Great instructors and a great education.... I would pay much more for this!!
Food and Dining No dining at DeSoto campus but there is great facilities at the main campus in Oxford!
Dorm Life I do not live on campus but I have heard it was great!!
Academic Rigor The difficulty level depends upon the course you are taking but it it can be quite challenging at times.
Tips for prospective students My best advice would be to study hard and do not take advantage of instructors' kindness. They are very understanding, but when you take advantage it only hurts you in the end.
In three sentences I absolutely love the University of Mississippi. I attend the DeSoto campus and it is so convenient and affordable. The teachers and staff are so nice and helpful. I could not ask for a better school to attend.

Greek Life HUGE part of Ole Miss life.
Clubs and Activities Greek life is what its all about.
Great for these types of students Preppy, wealthy, attractive, and outgoing.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Square is the weekend night life. But during football season, be ready for the grove.
Bang for the buck Over priced for the lack of amenities.
What to do for fun The square is a really great weekend hangout
Food and Dining Stick to the Student Union.
Dorm Life Stay away from Kincannon, and Guess.
Academic Rigor Show up to class, and you'll to fine.
Tips for prospective students Pay attention to the student body, not what your tour guide is telling you.
In three sentences If you are into Greek life, than Ole Miss is for you. If not, than you may find yourself a bit our of place.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been very few incidents involving any students on campus being harmed.
Greek Life There is a very immense Greek presence on campus.
Clubs and Activities If you happen to find that there is no club for you, you are into some strange things - as there are clubs for just about anythings. There is even a ninja club. Don't fret, though. The Associated Student Body is often happy to sponsor, to some degree, any student club or organization.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Grove during football season is a sight to see. It is the culmination of over a century of tradition, good and bad. It is the epitome of tailgating.
Bang for the buck This institution is one of the cheapest for what you get, in my opinion. The graduate schools are relatively low cost compared to their out of state counterparts.
What to do for fun One can go to the Square (small downtown area) and go to the bars or restaurants there. There is paintball 20 miles down the highway.
Food and Dining The Johnson Commons food is okay, but easily becomes tiresome. There are a variety of food options in the Student Union and more, such as a Papa John's, are slated to open in the Fall 2012 semester.
Dorm Life I stayed in the dorms for one year. I was on the eleventh floor of Stockard Hall. It was ok. The only real problems were the odd smell of the bathrooms and the unreliability of the elevator (to my knowledge the elevators have since then been replaced),
Academic Rigor Many of the classes are very difficult to get A's in, but if one goes to class regularly and takes some time out to study, passing is not usually very difficult.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus was voted the 8th safety campus in the United States. Our campus police are always around, you will always see them walking or driving around campus. Also, the county sheriff's office is down the street from the school.
Greek Life Greek Life is HUGE on Campus. Almost everyone on campus is a member of a fraternity or sorority. I am one of the few people on campus not in one.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and organizations. I am currently a mentor for the Cultural Connections Program. This is where we help the international students adjust to the American University life. It is a great program.
Great for these types of students It's great for students who want to be in a Greek organization, want to learn about different cultures, and just want to get a great education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the football games, everyone dresses up in their Sunday's finest. The girls wear skirts and heel and sometimes big hats. The guys wear nice slacks and a dress shirt. The Grove is a place where the tailgating happens. It's pretty fun but you might have to deal with some drunks.
Bang for the buck It is a bit expensive for me but I feel I am getting a quality education, especially when it comes to my Chinese studies.
What to do for fun Most of the fun happens on the Square. There are many clubs and other places on the square. The clubs are very strict about ID. There is not fooling the bouncers or sneaking in. There is also a movie theater, skating rink, and other places to go if you are not a club person. There isn't really a mall but there are many clothing stores and small boutiques for shopping.
Food and Dining There are many food and dining options on campus and off campus. There are many fast food places but there are also 'white table cloth' places. I found myself eating mostly on campus because I had a meal plan. I mostly ate at the Subway on campus because Subway is my favorite but there are other places, like the JC which is buffet style and Burger Studio.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are traditional style dorms, meaning a whole floors shares a bathroom or two. I would of liked it more it the bathrooms were cleaner. There are cleaners who come and clean the bathrooms but they only clean once a day and no one cleans on the weekends. I found myself cleaning the stall before I used the restroom.
Academic Rigor If you are coming to Ole Miss as a Language major, then you will be in for a lot. I am a Chinese major and we have homework due almost every week. The other classes are not to hard though. It just depends on your strengths and weaknesses.
Tips for prospective students Leave all of the negative cogitations about the south at the door. As an African American from the northern part of the United States, I was treated with respect and I never had a problem.
In three sentences Ole Miss is a university where you can get a quality education but still have fun. You will be able to meet people from all over the world and people from almost every state. Everyone is very nice and you will have no problem fitting in somewhere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University of Mississippi Police Department work tirelessly to keep everyone on campus safe. It is considered one of the safest college campuses. They immediately send out alerts to let you know if there are any problems, and then send out additional notices to keep you informed. Safety is very important at Ole Miss.
Clubs and Activities Though I have only been at Ole Miss for one year, I have noticed that there is a wide variety of organizations and activities on campus. There seems to be something that would interest just about everyone.
Great for these types of students There is a very large population of International students at Ole Miss, and every effort is made to make everyone feel at home when they are there. The university and surrounding areas are very welcoming.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Though very rooted in the Southern traditions, Ole Miss demonstrates a very modern view. They strive to look to the future. The best way to make friends at Ole Miss is to simply remember two words, Hotty Toddy.
Bang for the buck Ole Miss is often listed as one of the best universities for the money. Because of so many wonderful donors, Ole Miss is able to stay competitive with its many state of the art facilities on campus.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do on and off campus. Whatever your interests are, you can usually find something you like to do. Students and faculty at Ole Miss are very involved in the community, and there are enless opportunities to volunteer and give back.
Food and Dining There is a wide variety of eateries on campus. The food in the cafeteria is really good. Because of the ethnic diversity of Ole Miss and Oxford, MS, there are endless possibilities when it comes to food.
Dorm Life I commute because I live just down the road from Ole Miss. When given the choice of living in the library or living at home, I decided to save a bunch of money and live at home.
Academic Rigor I am a Mechanical Engineering major so my courses are a little more challenging that usual, but if it were easy...well it would be easy. I don't know how to compare it academically except to say that I am learning so much more than I ever imagined was possible. The professors are very helpful, so don't hesitate to go to them.
Tips for prospective students 1. Apply early. 2. Beware of deadlines and send in all your required documents in plenty of time. 3. Go to the earliest Freshman Orientation sessions to ensure that you get the classes that you want.
In three sentences I have just finished my freshman year at Ole Miss. It is a GREAT place to learn. I have never felt like I am just a number there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Oxford is a quite college town, with most of its residents being retired. It is beautiful, small, and warm in northern Mississippi.
Greek Life Ole Miss is known for its Greek life and the amount of involvment that these organizations demonstrate in campus activities, from football games to raising money for charities. Ole Miss is over 35% Greek.
Great for these types of students Those who plan on joining a sorority or fraternity, those who have tons of school spirit, and those who enjoy being social and want to experience the South and its hospitality
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The James Meredith statue celebrating the official integration of Ole Miss in 1962. It is also possible to walk in the underground tunnels that he had to walk in to get to class without being attacked. There's also the grove, which is infamous for tailgating and was ranked #1 in a national magazine. http://zing.olemiss.edu/national-magazine-ranks-um-no-1-for-college-tailgating/
Bang for the buck Public university, challenging classes.
What to do for fun Everything under the sun from concerts to intramurals. Many events are Greek-based or related, however, but are generally open to all students.
Food and Dining Staying on track with eating healthy is a bit challenging in the beginning, as food choices are often good but terrible for you.
Dorm Life Even though most dorms are a bit aged, they are the ones known for having the best social atmosphere.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, some courses are rather challenging but thought provoking.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for the strong Greek atmosphere, but to also have lots to do academically and socially.
In three sentences Great academics, legendary for social activities, and winner of most beautiful campus 2011. I can attest to all of these.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe since a lot of students follow an unofficial honor code. However, this is a public campus, where many non-students can come on campus and commit a crime. Be careful no matter what situation.
Greek Life Greek Life is big and live. You most come and see for youself.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs for all and any. Plus many clubs do volunteer work, so you can always rack up on your resume as long as you do them. There is always something posting on Organization walls (on floor two and one)
Great for these types of students There is diverse setting looking beyond international students. Rich or poor, you can find your best friend at the Union or Algebra class. Especially, if you take a big lecture class.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love hanging out in the Union near the Subway. There are tables that above the Union common lunch floor, so you could see everybody. Starbucks is another place that is always busy ( which is located in the Union). Traditions, there are several but you go on a visitor tour.
Bang for the buck Ole Miss is expensive if you out of state. However, I'm in-state and a pharmacy major but it's still expensive for me. However, it's worth it because I stay near my family and the southern flare and beauty. Your senior year in high school is very important to get money, so apply for everything honors, Luckyday, provost, and memorial scholarships. You will never know what you will get.
What to do for fun As for fun, do almost everything if you can. Venture downtown, go to the park, run across campus, attend free sports games, join clubs, go work out in the Turner Center, or find out what your dorm planned for the week or so (speed dating, pot paining). Don't worry you will always find something, even if you're hanging out in your dorms.
Food and Dining There is going to be even more food options since we are going to get a Papa John and Pinkberry. There is though a division of healthy and far-beyond healthy places to eat. We have Chick-fil-a, Burger Studio, Pizza Place, Magnolia Kitchen (Home-made eating), Sushi Bar, Subway (Most popular place to eat), and a Salad Bar (have delicious little sandwiches). Plus, we have the John Commons, the regular buffet style cafeteria. However, a lot of student like to go out to the busy and lively downtown, which has several options (from Italian to gourmet). Plus, we have transportation that runs until 9 or you can walk a some blocks. (It will be worth it when you are with your friends/date).
Dorm Life If you can afford it, go for the best and newest dorms. Ole Miss has just built three new dorms for the incoming freshmen, so chose practically (preferably not a best friend). Socialize with your neighbors because you are going to see and hear them a lot (depending on what dorm). Be nice to your RAs and janitors because your attitude will have an influence on your character. Be wise.
Academic Rigor I am an Pharmacy major, which will see most of the general courses with other science and medical majors. Transitioning was not as hard since I attended rigor high school, but I still had find new study techniques and branch into study groups. Just be careful of your time and who you study with.
Tips for prospective students I would advised students to get their time management in order first. You would either want to do a lot or nothing, so you be careful to plan you study time, social time, work time, and personal time carefully. You might get caught up in the social time but make your standard and keep at them.
In three sentences Ole Miss is very diverse by race and perspectives of life and education. Your life is determined by how interact with one another: your professors, advisers, friends, classmates, and other organization members. Ole Miss is a very proud Rebel that will define it's by excellence and hospitality.

Dorm Life The dorms are well taken care of. All of the dorms are within a 10 minute walk to anywhere on campus. I would highly suggest freshman to live in the dorms
Academic Rigor The teachers are tough but fair. As long as you show up to class and do your work you should pass with no problem. All the teachers here are willing to help in any way.
Tips for prospective students Anyone intending on going here should come with an open mind and drive to be great. Ole Miss has some of the top degree programs in the nation and is expected to only get better. I would suggest anyone to go here!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Ole Miss has been voted the safest campus in the SEC by Newsweek. It is well-lit and well-patrolled by the University Police Department. The campus also offers rides to students that feel unsafe walking around campus at night. There are posts around campus where you can simply push a button and you'll have a safe and reliable ride back to your car or your dorm--usually within 10 minutes.
Greek Life Greek Life is a major part of Ole Miss culture. Over 50% of the students are a part of the Greek life. It is very celebrated around campus. However, if you are not a part of the Greek system, you are not secluded. Many of the activities hosted by the sororities and fraternities are open to all students.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs geared toward every type of person. There are clubs based on lifestyle, political beliefs, major, philanthropy, and much more.
Great for these types of students Ole Miss has something for everyone. All of our programs are well-respected. We are leading many other schools in the inclusion of new programs, such as Forensic Chemistry. We are the only accredited institution in the state of Mississippi to offer a forensic program. Our Law, Pharmacy, and Pre-Med programs are highly sought after and well-respected, producing some of the top lawyers, pharmacists and doctors in the nation. Our business school breeds many successful business owners. We also have a very rigorous engineering program. Our Modern Languages department offers a variety of concentrations from Spanish to Mandarin Chinese. Our Croft Institute for International Studies produces many successful students that go on to work in top government positions around the world. There truly is something for everyone here!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ole Miss is all about tradition. One of our most unique traditions is tailgating in the Grove. We don't wear t-shirts and jeans. We wear our finest dresses and suits. It is also common to camp out the night before a game to reserve your spot in the Grove.
Bang for the buck Ole Miss is a great school to go to. The classes are challenging, but not impossible. You'll be a part of an institution where faculty members legitimately care. They have office hours each week during which they are available to help you. There is also free tutoring in a variety of subjects availaible almost everyday. There are organizations here for everyone. There are organizations based on major, lifestyle, activities, and charities. Be sure to join at least one. You never know who you may meet! The tuition at Ole Miss is a great deal less expensive than public universities in other states. It does increase almost yearly, but is still affordable. Out-of-state tuition is significantly higher, but Ole Miss participates in numerous Academic Common Market programs for out-of-state students that live in a state where their major is not offered. There are multiple scholarships and financial aid available, as well. As a matter of fact, over 50% of Ole Miss students receive some form of financial aid. Throughout your years, at Ole Miss, you'll never meet a stranger. Instead, you'll meet new friends that will be a part of your life forever. You will get a quality education on the most beautiful campus (and the safest in the SEC!) with some of the greatest people you'll ever meet.
What to do for fun There's a lot of things to do in Oxford during the school year. The Student Programming Board hosts numerous events such as concerts throughout the year. It is tradition to tailgate in the Grove on Saturdays when there is a home game. It is also very common for students to go out on The Square on thursday nights. There's also a movie theater.
Food and Dining Ole Miss has a variety of options when it comes to dining. In the Student Union alone, there is a Chic-Fil-A, a Tex-Mex restaurant, a southern cooking restaurant, an Italian restaurant, a Burger Studio, a Sandwich & Salad restaurant, an Asian restaurant,a Subway, a Starbucks (in the bookstore) and a new frozen yogurt shop. If you're in a hurry, there's also numerous concession machines around campus, including at least 6 in the Student Union. There is also a quick-stop shop in the union which has grab-and-go sandwiches, salad, sushi, trail mix, drinks, and snacks. There is a full-service Starbucks in the Library, an Einstein's bagel shop in the engineering building, and another coffee shop in the JC commons. The JC commons is another cafeteria frequented by students who live on campus. The JC serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have stations that vary day-to-day. There are always vegetarian options available. The Residential College also has a cafeteria. RC members have unlimited access. Other students can use their meal plans + ~$2.00/meal. The RC has stations that serve home-cooked meals, Italian and Asian cuisine, sandwiches and a multitude of desserts. There is a coffee station and a cereal station as well. On the weekends, they have late-night specials including burgers, fries, chicken fingers, and other foods so you don't have to leave campus for a late-night snack. There is also a convenience store on campus. There are several meal-plan options and each student gets $200 in Flex Dollars per semester. Freshmen are required to have a meal plan. Upperclassmen have other options. I definitely recommend getting a meal plan regardless of whether you live on campus or not. It is much cheaper to eat on campus using your meal-plan or Flex dollars than it is to leave campus between classes. I also recommend using your Flex on cheaper things, such as vending machines and coffee instead of relying on it to pay for your meals. The meals in the union range from about $5-$7. Thus, $200 in Flex does not last a full semester if you're spending it on meals.
Dorm Life I lived in the Residential College my Freshman year. This was the best possible dorm on campus. I did not have to share a room and only had to share my bathroom with one other person. There was a cafeteria, a gym, and a full-service kitchen available to me at all times. There are several types of rooms, including the typical 2-person dorm room with one bathroom, a 2-bedroom suite with 2 bedrooms and one bathroom, and a quad-suite containing 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a common area. The only down-side is the cost of the residential college. It was at least $1,000 extra a semester. You also have to obtain a minimum GPA of approximately 3.0. The traditional dorms on campus are double-occupancy with a communal bathroom on each floor. The majority of them are fairly old, but are very clean and kept up. There are two new dorms being built now. They should be available in the Fall of 2012. This is the beginning of an all-around renovation of the older buildings on campus. All of the dorms have multiple RA's on each floor that are ready and willing to assist you in any issue you may have--from being locked out to more personal issues. The RHA (Resident Housing Association) also hosts multiple events throughout the year to give students the opportunity to not only meet the people in their dorm, but to socialize with other students living on campus. Did I mention that they give free food and T-shirts at these events?! Overall, Ole Miss' Dorm life is very good. The majority of the students that live on campus enjoy it due to the accessibility as well as the affordability. Living off of campus in Oxford is very expensive due to the high-cost of rent, utlilties and gas to get to and from campus.
Academic Rigor I am a forensic chemistry major at Ole Miss. I have definitely had my difficult semesters here. But, I have a great advisor that not only guides me through the curriculum, but also gives me advice on what classes to take in conjunction with one another. The curriculum of the majority of the programs require students to take at 12-15 credit hours a semester in order to graduate in 4 years. I have taken between 15 and 18 credit hours a semester for the past 3 years, I've had a part-time job the whole time and I will graduate on time. It is highly difficult being that there are no easy classes other than my electives. However, these difficult classes have fully prepared me for the internship that I am currently doing. I am currently looking at employment opportunities and am thrilled to see that I am actually OVER-qualified for many of these positions due to the combination of highly-competitive academics and laboratory experience. Regardless of what your major is, you will be more than prepared for the work force. The majority of the programs require either internships, teacher assistanceships, or some other form of real-world, on-the-job training in order for you to obtain your degree. This gives you the training you need to work as soon as you graduate and a great opportunity to network with future employers.
Tips for prospective students Although Ole Miss is a public university, the academic programs are very competitive. Be prepared to leave the study habits you learned in high school behind. Be prepared to read excessively and study more than you ever have before. Don't panic; with the combination of good study skills, motivation, great faculty and free tutoring, it's virtually impossible to fail. Just remember that you're expected to not only do well on your tests--you're expected to exceed. A degree from Ole Miss is well respected because of this. Not everyone gets into Ole Miss and there is a decent percentage of people who do not make it to graduation for one reason or another. But, for those of you who are highly motivated to succeed, Ole Miss is for you.
In three sentences Ole Miss is not only one of the greatest universities in the south, but one of the greatest universities in the nation. We are known to be the safest campus in the SEC as well as the most beautiful. At Ole Miss, you will never meet a stranger; we are all a part of a beautiful institution of higher learning with one of the best law and pharmacy programs in the nation.

Great for these types of students The University of Mississippi is a university that is open and diverse. I truly believe that anyone could attend Ole Miss and find a fit as well as many ways to get involved and add to their college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The greatest and most well known tradition at Ole Miss is tailgating in The Grove. It the the best tailgating tradition in the nation. During home football games all the fans tailgate in one area called The Grove. People are friendly and definitely make all the fans feel welcome. This is an event that should be on your bucket list even if you are not an Ole Miss fan.
Bang for the buck I attend Ole Miss from out of state and I can personally say that even though I have out of state tuition, it is extremely reasonable compared to many other out of state schools in the SEC. I am very pleased with the value I am receiving for my education.
What to do for fun Where do I start? You will have a hard time finding a college campus with more fun things to do than Ole Miss. Of course you have all the SEC sports you can dream of including football and tailgating in the grove as well as the number one baseball experience in the nation, concerts in The Grove, and so many organizations to get involved with.
Food and Dining The dining options at Ole Miss are awesome. They are many different options for dining including everything from typical college cuisine to healthy full course meals and salads. You can also choose from many national chain restaurants as well as use you express card to eat at restaurants around town.
Dorm Life Dorm life was surprisingly great my Freshman year. I really thought I might not adjust to that well, however it was great. I met so many great friends from so many different areas of the country. That is the main reason I wanted to go to school out of state. It was a blast.
Academic Rigor The University of Mississippi has so many areas of study and an excellent reputation academically around the country. The faculty is incredible and truly has a desire for students to grow and succeed.
Tips for prospective students If you are an upcoming Freshman, I highly recommend the Summer Program in July. It is awesome and it allows you to take a couple classes while getting acclimated on campus and meeting other new students. It made the transition to college life in the fall so much easier!
In three sentences The University of Mississippi is the ultimate college experience. First and foremost, the quality of the education, administration and faculty is the best. The experience and skills you gain from the actual college life is one that does not compare.

Greek Life Is everywhere.
Clubs and Activities No matter what you are interested in we probably have a club for it, and if we don't, everyone is encouraged to find a group of people that have the same interest and make an organization for whatever it is that you are interested in.
Great for these types of students Ole Miss has something to offer for everyone; I'd say it was great for all types of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For all home football games we dress in formal attire. People jump into the fountain at night to get some great and fun pictures.
Bang for the buck I can honestly say that Ole Miss has been worth every penny I have spent on my education here.
What to do for fun At Ole Miss we spend a lot of time relaxing in the Grove. We have many organizations around campus that try to put on events so there is always something going on. If you get lucky someone will take you to The Door-nob of the Universe and we love to support all of our athletic teams. Everyone also enjoys going out on the square on the weekends.
Food and Dining Pink Berry is the best thing to ever happen to our Union. We have a variety of things to eat from on campus, it's just a matter of beating the rushes.
Dorm Life For the most part all of the Residence Halls are nice and good communities to live in, especially the new additions to campus. They have lots of updates and are nice to live in.

Categories Comments Greek Life While I don't live the Greek Life, everyone I've ever heard has said it is really in a class of its own. I remember seeing in a magazine (can't recall the name) the top ten schools for Greek Life. UM wasn't on the list. However, tun the page and they had their own article saying they were so far above the others, the editors felt it would be an understatement to put Ole Miss as #1 on the list.
Great for these types of students All accounting majors are welcome.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is The Square which is actually a big circle, however it's not on campus. It has nice smaller shops if you can afford them.
What to do for fun If you like to play sports, there is a rec center that has everything one could wish for. Other than that, people like to walk around the square (which is actually a circle??). If you like to listen to live music, the school has concerts occasionally, and there are small venues in the area more Indie bands play at on occasion.
Food and Dining It's the South: dining can't be bad. But seriously, there are places to eat for every taste. Even the main cafeteria (JC) is very diverse and consistently offers great food for everyone.
Dorm Life Living on campus is pretty good, but not stellar. There are a lot of activities to do on campus (e.g. a rec-center with everything one could wish for), and there are some nice eats on campus. The town is very slow-paced, therefore, there are not a lot of activities to do off campus.
Academic Rigor Accounting classes are not for the faint-hearted. All classes and test require one to think critically and thoroughly understand all real world concepts. However, the 4/5 rating is because the lack of refinement in so many non-accounting courses. The marketing program is a joke.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering accounting, this is THE school to go to. If you are considering another program, I recommend looking at other students' reviews of the classes before signing. There are both stellar teachers and programs as well as teachers and programs that really shouldn't be a part of any university.
In three sentences UM is the best accounting school I've ever looked at or heard of. The outreach campuses are also great options for students that live in the area and want smaller classes. However, the marketing program at the university is severely lacking in good teachers and innovative material.

Categories Comments Greek Life I am a member of a Greek organization and it is the best decision I have ever made. I have many friends that are Greek and I wouldn't have met them any other way.
What to do for fun The big thing to do for fun in Oxford is go to The Square. It has many different restaurants, bakeries, and clubs for people that are under 21. It also has great shopping. Or you can also raid Goodwill for funny stuff.
Food and Dining The food in the Union will get boring pretty quick. Some of the places even close before they are supposed to, which is frustrating.
Dorm Life I lived in the new dorms, which were nice, but not very social. Unlike the traditional dorms, the doors do not stay open, making it harder to meet people. Towards the end of the semester, the people on my floor always hung out in the lounge on the floor. I was also sick for most of the semester because my body was not used to the germs.
Academic Rigor The first semester of freshman year was scary for me. The classes themselves weren't difficult, but a lot of thought had to be put in all of the assignments. Be prepared to write a lot of papers.
Tips for prospective students You will meet a lot of new people. Be sure to make friends in all of your classes in case you have to miss class.
In three sentences The University of Mississippi welcomes anyone and everyone to attend their campus. Faculty and staff are usually beyond helpful with all your needs. The class sizes are typically a good size, not scary.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel pretty safe walking back to my dorm after a night of going out.
Greek Life I'm not active in Greek life, but it is a big deal there.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of things to do, just find something that interests you.
Great for these types of students Everybody can make Mississippi their home.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The football games! Groving is like no other tailgating experience.
Bang for the buck Definitely affordable and great for anybody coming out of state.
What to do for fun There's always things to do for fun, like ice skating in the Union, or lazer tag in the Grove.
Food and Dining The JC was closed this semester so the food was definitely limited, but I liked the fact Subway and Papa John's were open late.
Dorm Life I love the dorm I'm in, which is Ridge South. The atmosphere is great and everybody is friendly.
Academic Rigor This depends on your major, anything medical related requires you to take BISC 160 and that class really is as hard as they say it is. You'll have to learn how to study.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you go out and meet people and enjoy your time there.
In three sentences Ole Miss is a great place to meet new people and to get that big college feel in a smaller campus. Being in a college town is definitely an advantage.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's one of the safest campuses in the US.
Great for these types of students It's great for science majors and greek life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Groving is a part of the Ole Miss life. Some people love, some don't, but at least go out to the Grove once on one football game.
Bang for the buck The only reason I'm glad I picked Ole Miss is because I got some nice transfer student scholarships. Those weren't even completely worth it, though.
What to do for fun Most freshmen groups love to hand out on the square. There are some cool things that happen some times, but it's a REALLY small town, so you might need to prepare for culture shock.
Food and Dining I'm a vegetarian, and they do not offer many options.
Dorm Life The Luckyday Residential College is THE place to be!!! You will develop a family atmosphere with the faculty and other residents.
Academic Rigor There are classes that will be exciting and interesting and there will be classes that make you wonder why you waste your money. It's a love hate place.
Tips for prospective students This is the place to be for science majors, but maybe not for art majors.
In three sentences The school is an overall beautiful place with many opportunities in the social sense. The school is, however, deeply lacking in the digital arts. They have a long way to go before their digital arts program can be considered worth it or challenging.

Bang for the buck Ole miss is where it's at!
What to do for fun parties! football games! basketball games! frisbee in the grove!
Food and Dining Not gunna lie, the food right now is pretty lame. But that's only becuase our dining hall is being redone! It will be ready for fall of 2013! and they have so many more options!!
Dorm Life the dorms aren't bad at all! Crosby is definitely the best, if you're lucky enough to find a room among the sophomore sorority girls! Hefley is also great for girls! It's right in the middle of campus!

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the reasons that my parents love Ole Miss is because they trust the safety of the campus. The town of Oxford revolves around the school. The campus is beautiful, quaint, and protected. Even the members of the community are warm and welcoming.
Greek Life The greek life here is hands down one of the university's biggest joys. I highly advise rushing if you go here, it is truly one of the most infamous systems in the country.
Great for these types of students All types of students who are looking to receive an exceptional undergraduate experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Door knob to the universe is a secret location that you can only find if someone takes you.
Bang for the buck This school is well worth the tuition. I wouldn't give back one penny or moment.
What to do for fun The greek system and town of Oxford offer plenty of fun-filled opportunities.
Food and Dining The dining options are limited. The food offered in fraternity and sorority houses are better.
Dorm Life The buildings aren't the most updated but the amazing people you meet in the dorms well exceed the accommodations. Everything is close by and revolved around the heart of the campus.
Academic Rigor If you are a pre-professional major the academic rigor is incredibly challenging and rewarding. As long as you are applying yourself the course load is doable.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of all the resources the campus has to offer especially the greek system. Get involved as much as you can and meet as many people as possible. The person you meet tomorrow could be your best friend or tutor for the next 4 years.
In three sentences Ole Miss is a divine University that prides itself on the success of its students. This home-away-from-home makes everyone feel like they are the most important person on campus and it makes every individual an utmost priority. I feel blessed to attend this university and benefit from all of the opportunities they have graciously offered me.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I am going to have to attend before I can say what there is to do for fun. Although, they have a basketball court and I know I will be using that.
Food and Dining I have heard nothing but great things about the dining, and they have Abner's Cheese steaks. I feared that I would not be able to get a great cheese steak away from Philadelphia, but I have faith in Abner's because the one located in University City is incredible.
Dorm Life I have read mixed reviews, but it appears to be about average. I will not actually be able to tell until I attend.
Academic Rigor According to my research, they have an awesome English and Arts department.
Tips for prospective students Do thorough research to find if this school along with all schools are the right ones for you. I could not imagine this college is wrong for too many people.
In three sentences Ole Miss appears to be perfect. I am a northerner from Philadelphia and I want to go down south for the southern hospitality, the accents, the culture, the women, but most importantly to me, an education. They have a strong English department and I wish to add an Economics degree along with it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University of Mississippi is ranked as the 29th safest campus in the country . A program called green dot was recently created where an app on your phone can instantly alert university police that you are in danger . We also have several alarm stations all around campus that will also alert the police.
Greek Life Greek life at the University of Mississippi is one of the best in the country. With 18 fraternities and 13 sororities there is a very large selection . All Greek organizations are involved in community service activities and help make a difference in the community as well as the University.
Clubs and Activities The University of Mississippi has many clubs and organizations from the Student government to the Art and culture club . Their are a variety of inter-mural sports as well. The spectrum of clubs is enough for nearly any student to fit in and if there is isn't a club for you any student can create a club of there own at any time..
Great for these types of students A student that likes to have fun ,but knows there limits and when to study. Someone who doesn't mind a small town setting. Any student interested in the fields of Law, Pharmacy, and Accounting .
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The University of Mississippi has many traditions , the most prominent being game day dress. Every home football game the students dress in there Sunday best and go to the Grove (the large courtyard area in the center of campus) where many tents are set up for tailgating by alumni . Another tradition is the Rebel Run in which the freshman class runs onto the field of the stadium before the first football game begins and you get a free t-shirt.
Bang for the buck The University of Mississippi has many opportunities you wont find anywhere else . Our campus was voted as the number two most beautiful campus in the country . The town Oxford,Mississippi was also in the top ten for best college town in the country.
What to do for fun Being an SEC school the sports are always fantastic. The Greek life can also be a great experience .
Food and Dining Chik fil a , Subway , sushi , and many other great choices.
Dorm Life By the end of your freshman year the people in your dorms will be like a second family.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major .
Tips for prospective students The most important thing to know is to always stay in touch with your academic advisers. Their job is to help you and they are always willing and ready . The University of Mississippi is a large school and many incoming freshman find it hard to manage time ,so I recommend all incoming freshman to take the freshman introductory course ; it is a very helpful class that will assist in time management and adjustment to the college life.
In three sentences Attending the University of Mississippi is an exciting and worth while experience. I find the University to be a home away from home . Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is not everything at the University of Mississippi like many people assume it is. I am not a part of Greek Life and I personally have never felt as though I was missing out on anything. If you can afford it, I am sure it is an enjoyable experience. You are able to bond with other girls/guys of similar interests as well as giving to a good charity.
Clubs and Activities I am a member of Gamma Beta Phi, which is a great club for volunteering and really being able to become invovled with helping the community.
What to do for fun There are always activities on campus. There are often musical groups playing in front of the student union, concerts in the grove, tailgating, sports events, theatrical performances in the Ford Center, and much more.
Food and Dining There are many options on campus for food, home cooked cafeteria style eating as well as chain restaurants such as Subway.
Dorm Life My experience in dorm life was one that I will never forget. I made some of my best friends living in the dorm. You live with people that you would otherwise possibly never get the chance to know so well. You are forced to get to know people because you share common space with them and run into them in the halls daily. Awesome experience, and the dorms I lived in were only a year old (Residential College).
Academic Rigor I suppose the academis rigor could vary among courses, but in the courses I have had so far I would give it four stars.
Tips for prospective students The university has many resources and opportunities on campus. My advice is to use those resources. If you are not aware of what the university has to offer, talk to someone. There are advisors, people in the libraries and all departments that will help guide you along your academic journey. That is what they are there for. Do not ever be afraid to ask questions.
In three sentences The University of Mississippi has a beautiful, diverse campus. The faculty and students along with the campus create a very welcoming and community like environment. The faculty is adequately qualified for their teaching positions and are always willing to help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are always easy to be found. There are numbers that you can text/call if you ever feel unsafe, and not to mention the Police Buttons located all around campus that you can easily press and they will appear before you know it!
Greek Life Greek organizations are HUGE at The University of Mississippi. There are 9+ sororities, and even more fraternities. There are field parties and philanthropy events all through the year, you are sure to find your home away from home.
Clubs and Activities Greek organizations are HUGE at The University of Mississippi. There are 9+ sororities, and even more fraternities. There are field parties and philanthropy events all through the year, you are sure to find your home away from home.
Great for these types of students Great for all students, honestly. There is no pressure to drink, nor no pressure to only study. You do your own thing and you will be fine.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Grove! The grove is set for fun football game festivities. Everybody puts up a tent, hangs a chandelier, and serves foods and wines, all in celebrating the Hotty Toddy tradition.
Bang for the buck If you're going to spend money, spend it well, in Oxford, MS. There is no place better to be, i'd bet on it.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do around the town of Oxford for fun! Many students go to the square for great food and good shopping, or the Grove for a casual stroll and relaxation, and not to mention the football games! And if you want a fun night out, Memphis is only 45 minutes away and Tunica is only an hour!
Food and Dining With the different options of dining/food, you can choose between fast food.. or gourmet. There are different choices depending on if you decide to eat at the Student Union or the J.C (student cafeteria).
Dorm Life The dorms at Ole Miss have been reconstructed and made to feel at home. They are roomy and have a store located in them for every little need that you will want. Very impressing.
Academic Rigor The academics at The University of Mississippi are great! The professors are very concerned about their students and do their best to make sure that everyone is academically understanding the information that they are being given.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students would be to check out every aspect of every college and town you look at. Make sure that you can see yourself there for the length of time you plan to attend. The University of Mississippi seems to suite everybody, in my opinion!
In three sentences My rating on The University of Mississippi would be a 10. The school and town is wonderful. I would not choose any other college to improve my academics.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can walk around at night by yourself and not have to worry about a single thing. UPD is always on patrol and they will even escort you back to your room if you feel afraid.
Great for these types of students If you are well-balanced, meaning you can handle school and a decent social life, then this school is definitely for you. There is always something going on and if you are disciplined you will do great at deciding what to and what not to attend.
Bang for the buck This school is definitely worth what you pay to attend. The education is phenomenal and the connections you make here are ones that you will hold on to for the rest of your life and they will definitely help you once you leave here.
What to do for fun The Square is right down the street and there is TONS to do there. But if you are looking for fun on campus there are plays, dance classes, random parties in the grove, and all kinds of other fun stuff.
Food and Dining After awhile you get a little bored with the food; however, there is a wide variety of choices. I encourage every student to try each dining facility on campus at least once in their stay here.
Dorm Life Residence halls are constantly being either added to campus or renovated. The only con to living in a dorm is not being able to control the temperature in your room, but it is usually kept a manageable temperature.
Academic Rigor The work is challenging, but the instructors are extremely nice and they help you a lot. Like any other university, the key is staying on top of your game by keeping up with your assignments.
Tips for prospective students It is very easy and important to get involved on campus. There is something for everyone here. You just have to get out there and make it happen.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is the safest place I have ever been outside of Europe.
Greek Life It is great. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested. However, Ole Miss is also the kind of place where one could not be in a fraternity or sorority and still have a lot of fun.
Clubs and Activities There is a club or organization for practically anything a person could be interested. If there somehow is not, they are easy to start. People become very interested when they hear about your shared interests.
Great for these types of students Academically motivated, Greek, Just willing to get by with 2.5 GPA
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Swim in the fountain in the quad, Doorknob to the Universe, Graceland Too,
Bang for the buck The University gives good scholarships, and the Honors College is also very generous with its money.
What to do for fun The Square, The Grove, Community Service Opportunities, Running Trails, Fraternities,
Dorm Life Ridges are the best.
Academic Rigor 3 stars for general academics. 5 stars for special programs.
Tips for prospective students Go to class and pay attention. Go to the Grove before every football game. Study hard but make time for fun.
In three sentences The University of Mississippi is an ideal university for many different types of students. Although its admissions standards are not as high as those of many top universities, Ole Miss has many great programs of which a high achieving student may take advantage. The Sally Barksdale Honors College, Chinese Language Flagship Program, Center for Manufacturing Excellence, and the Croft Institute for International Studies are just a few examples of these.

Categories Comments Greek Life Ole Miss has the biggest Greek life. Most girls go greek. The best sororities at Ole Miss are DG and Phi Mu. DO NOT THINK THETA.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You have to go see doorknob to the universe. Someone has to take you there and you have to be blindfolded. Oxford has the historical square for shopping, bars, and GREAT food....this is where you need to go.
Food and Dining The union is great. In the union you have: subway, chick-fil-a, Pinkberry, Toss-It-Up, Magnolia Grill, Burger Studio, and a mexican place. You can use your meal plan in the union, the JC, and at any stores in the dorm halls. Usually don't get a meal plan over 50 plus 1 because you will have many wasted meals.
Dorm Life Crosby is mainly for sorority girls. Martin is rated the best for girls. Stockard is rated the best for guys. The Ridges are new to Ole Miss and are co-ed. The only dorms with bathrooms in the rooms are the ridges. The RC also has bathrooms and is very nice; it is very competitive though.
Academic Rigor The classes at Ole Miss are somewhat tough but they are able to be done. The teachers work with you and are easy to contact if you need them.
Tips for prospective students If you are an incoming freshman, stay in martin or stockard. Do not live in Kincannon. Be sure to go to class every day. Get plenty of rest.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Statistically we are one of the safest college campuses in the United States. We pride ourselves on our student safety programs and our ever present on campus university police department.
Clubs and Activities We have innumerable clubs on campus and endless opportunities to join. From Athletics to Academic Clubs to the Ole Miss Gamer's Association, there is always an organization holding an event and getting involved in the community.
Great for these types of students Ole Miss is great for students of all varieties. For those looking for a superior education, we offer rigorous courses with small class sizes and amazing professors. For those that are interested in the social aspect, we have on campus activities every day. Finally for those looking for parties, we have a saying We may not win every football game, but we have NEVER lost a party.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Here at Ole Miss, we have a tradition of taking the freshman students to a secret location known as the Doorknob to the Universe at some point their first semester, freshman are blindfolded and escorted to the doorknob by their upperclassmen friends. The following year, it is up to them to escort their freshman friends to the location.
Bang for the buck For the price of tuition, this school really gives you a well rounded college experience with amazing staff, great courses, and awesome students.
What to do for fun For fun, students can participate in a wide variety of on campus events from campus wide game days to week long events such as Humans versus Zombies. We have many organizations on campus including Ole Miss Outdoors and the Ole Miss Gamer's Association that constantly provide fun opportunities for the students to get involved in fun and engaging activities on campus.
Food and Dining On campus food is very good, however eating only on campus will seem very bland after the first few weeks. If you really want to vary your diet, try to eat off campus or buy extra food for variety. All of our meal plans are affordable, and can accommodate for different dietary needs.
Dorm Life Dorm life at the University of Mississippi helps provide a good social aspect to college life. If you need help, generally someone one in your dorm, perhaps even a Residential Assistant, can help you and everyone on staff is willing to go out of their way to make sure you succeed.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor here varies from course to course, however, we hold ourselves to high standards when it comes to providing a quality education for students.
Tips for prospective students My advice would be to find a good group of supportive friends and to talk to the staff. The staff is always helpful and can really provide interesting commentary on each of their respective specialties.
In three sentences I really enjoy attending the University of Mississippi. The campus is always alive with activity and the student body is very involved with on campus activities. We have a phenomenal staff and our curriculum allows for a wide variety of classes and academic interests.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our police department is dedicated to making our campus safe. There are emergency towers all over campus where any one can call for help quickly.
Greek Life The Greek system is a big part of Ole Miss. About 30% of our students are affiliated with a fraternity or sorority.
Clubs and Activities Like I mentioned earlier, Ole Miss offers something for everyone. The diversity in our student body is celebrated, and it is easy to find people who share your interest.
Great for these types of students Ole Miss is great for everyone. Really. Our administration and students have made a huge effort to ensure that every student, regardless of their backgrounds or fields of study, are happy in their home away from home at the University.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ole Miss takes pride in many traditions, none more famous than The Grove. It is a green space on campus where Ole Miss fans tailgate before sporting events (usually football games). We are generally considered to be one of the best places for tailgating not just in our conference (Go, SEC!), but in the country as a whole. Ole Miss is an historic place. We also take pride in the individuality. Every prospective student is given a tour of campus where all these features are highlighted.
Bang for the buck The University of Mississippi is a public institution, so the cost of attendance is subsidized by the taxpayers of Mississippi. The cost is a little higher for out of state students, but I have not had to take out any loans to cover my educational expenses. More detailed information, including an itemized projected cost of attendance, can be found on our website (www.olemiss.edu)
What to do for fun Oxford, the college town around our university, is famous for the night life on The Square. There are boutiques, restaurants and bars, coffee shops, and all kinds of other things. Oxford is only about an hour away from Memphis, TN, which is one of the biggest cities in our area. In addition to that, Ole Miss loves its athletics. There is always a game of some sort going on, most of which are free for students to attend.
Food and Dining Ole Miss has several on-campus dining options. Our student union has a food court that offers everything from fast food to home-style Southern favorites. The Johnson Commons is more of a cafeteria setting. The food is pretty good. One of our dorm buildings, the Residential College, has a dining room built into it. It's the best. The food there is cooked in smaller quantities, and so it has a better taste.
Dorm Life Our dorms are currently being remodeled. The older buildings have some problems, but they are being corrected. Our new dorms are the best you could ask for. They offer full, private bathrooms within your room. It is easy to connect with the people who live around you. Many of the students here are friendly, and will be as eager to get to know you as you are to get to know them.
Academic Rigor The University of Mississippi is the flagship institution for our state. Students have access to a wonderful education here. Each class and each professor is different. Expectations will vary, but based on my experience, any student who shows effort and a desire to succeed certainly can do so.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should take advantage of all the opportunities afforded at Ole Miss. It is a place where the traditional and the contemporary meet. There are student organizations to connect you with students who share pretty much any interest with you. We have a Career Center dedicated to helping you find out what you what to do after school, and how to go about achieving your goals. Our study abroad office is top notch, and you will not regret a decision to participate in any of the programs we offer.
In three sentences The University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss as it is affectionately called, is home to a diverse study body and the study of almost any discipline. The University has had major roles in the history of the state and country, some of which have been negative, but some have been wonderful. The University of Mississippi is very much a welcoming and thriving place.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never had a problem but witnessed some friends and others go through some things. If you don't get along with someone make sure they do not vandalize your vehicle. Be smart. And if it happens to you don't take revenge because it may backfire.
