Great for these types of students Mississippi residents interested in any medical profession Minority Students
Bang for the buck The graduate programs are reasonable in their tuition and offer quality education that, as a medical school candidate, I appreciate.
What to do for fun Jackson is the state capital, and the campus is right in the heart of the action. A gym is located in the Student Union, and there's food and shopping minutes away.
Food and Dining There is a Starbucks and McDonalds located in the hospitals. Also, the Student Union and the hospital have cafeterias with vegetarian options.
Dorm Life Dorms are not offered.
Academic Rigor This university is demanding but also dedicated to the success of its students. Are the classes challenging? Yes, they are, but will the professors and faculty do all they can to help students? Again, the answer is yes.
Tips for prospective students 1. Meet with deans, presidents of universities, etc. 2. Shadow, shadow, shadow. There are doctors, dentists, nurses--someone for whatever your interest lies in. 3. If you have a question, ask it. It's better to lay your cards out on the table. The staff wants to help.
In three sentences The Unviersity of Mississippi Medical Center is both hospital and university, and as both, gives its medical-interested students the best of both worlds. Its facilities, doctors, and professors are award-winning. If one gets an education at UMC, one can be certain of its value.
