Categories Comments Tips for prospective students c'mon down (:
Bang for the buck it's not as as expensive as other schools in the area.
Am enjoying being here UMSL's campus is so diverse. There are plenty of clubs and if you cant find one you like, you can create our own.
Am learning a lot The classes are a bit difficult, but overall, I love it here. The professors are always willing to help you if you need it, and the students are always forming study groups if you'd like to learn with friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is very nice. You can call them if you have a late class and they will escort you to your car if you feel scared or anything.
Clubs and Activities I know its multiple activities offered but I have only participated in the Student Government Association.
Great for these types of students I think all types of students fit in here.
Bang for the buck Compared to the four year universirties in the area UMSL is one of the least inexpensive ones.
What to do for fun It's a lot to do for fun. The university usually has something fun going on but if not there was always something happening in St. Louis. For instance, Kevin Hart just made an appearance on Friday, April 13th. We also receive different discounts on events that come to the area, like Cardinal tickets!!
Food and Dining The food waas pretty good. Just here recently we have gotten a Eisteins Bagel on campus which I love. But, there are many options and different restuarants around campus as well.
Dorm Life I had just an amazing time living on campus. My roommate and I became best friends and have been every since. We had different activities just about every night!
Academic Rigor Some of the professors can be really tough especially in the honors college. They really go by the syllabus and expect alot from the students.
Tips for prospective students I think prospective students should really look into and get involved on campus. It is really easy to become a local and lose focus on your studies. I think if you stay active on campus then you will remain on a course of graduation.
In three sentences I believe that University of Missouri-St. Louis is a good university. It is a communter school but it was fun living on campus. I do believe that the advisor for first time students should be a little more hands on and have a more pratical approach to help new students understand the courses.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus has there own accredited police officers. If you ever feel unsafe or taking night class and want someone to work you to your car the campus police will provide that for you.
What to do for fun They are a lot events held on campus for the enjoyment of the students. There an annual carnival held every year, doing homecoming week there some kind of activity held everyday. Organizations on campus have fun things set up for the enjoy of the students so I always have something to do on campus.
Food and Dining Dinning is sort of expensive but it's good and sometimes well worth the cost.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice they are made suit style so it's like having your own apartment just with a roommate. The rooms are big and it's key entry that only you have so it can be very private if need be.
Academic Rigor The academics is as hard as one makes it at times, but I can say that they teachers are always available to assist and help when needed. They make sure to let the students know multiple ways to contact them and also get help on campus when they are not available.
Tips for prospective students One thing that I would recommend for incoming student are prospective students is to be organized and balance with there time management. The University is not a very rich university like other schools in the area so that organization and balance will come in handy when trying to get work-study, scholarships, and etc.
In three sentences The University of Missouri-St. Louis is a wonderful campus where there's lots of diversity. There is a lot of opportunity on campus that is being made on campus for the betterment of the students. The teachers are really helpful and available for the students. The environment on campus is pretty friendly and I think It's a great school for someone looking for something close to home but not at home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UMSL isn't the enviroment where there has to be security at every corner. The students there are nice and they tend to mind their own business. There is a good amount of security at the parking lots but not really throughout campus, but seriously...it's not needed. Umsl is a friendly enviroment and Ive actually never seen any conflict on campus.
Greek Life Not too familiar with the greek life personally. I do know that the sororities and fraternities are always hosting activities around campus all times of the day.
Clubs and Activities There's way too many clubs to even count. Just find where you fit in, figure out what you're good at and figure out what's your passion and I guarantee there's a club with atleast 20 people just like you.
Great for these types of students Umsl is great for any type of student. It has everything. It's both a academic atmosphere and a fun atmosphere all in one.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The pilot house located in MSC is pretty weird. That's where students was able to do art on the walls. It's also where the Subway is located. But there's a stage and the decor is pretty wild. Fun place to be in actually.
Bang for the buck Umsl definitely give you more than what you pay for. It has the cheapest tuition rates as far as universities in that area.
What to do for fun There's always so much to do on campus. There's numerous swimming pools. There's the gym in the Mark Twain center. There's the library for quiet relax time. PLus there's always something going on on campus rather it's the Mirthday Carnival or just activities sororities are hosting,
Food and Dining I LOVE THEIR FOOD! It's so incredibly good. Plus everyday they have so many different foods to chose from AND they have a subway on campus.
Dorm Life The dorms are so fun. Everyone's nice and helpful. It's also clean and not too noisy.
Academic Rigor I love how challenging the courses are. You actually learn something rather than sitting through something you already know. Plus they offer a very wide variety of courses so you can find interest in every course.
Tips for prospective students For future students: -Do not wait until the day of or before classes to buy your books or you will be standing in line for hours. -Arrive to school early to find a parking space. The most chaotic times for parking is 10:45-12:30 because thats around the time the 11:00 classes begin. Those are the most favorable classes and most people have those classes so there's literally no parking around that time.
In three sentences Great academic enviroment. Not too expensive. Challenging classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are continually seen patrolling campus. There are also emergency buttons located on every campus pathway and in every parking garage.
Great for these types of students UMSL is great for students who want the full university experience with people with down-home values.
What to do for fun St. Louis is a mecca of fun. There are several bars and coffeehouses near campus. There are many off-campus entertainment venues. We have everything from Six Flags, to upscale Jazz Bistros, to Broadway theater productions, to craft/food/wine/music festivals, etc.
Food and Dining UMSL has a wide variety of fresh and hot food options. The student center has a spacious dining facility.
Dorm Life I live off campus but UMSL offers everything from dorms, to apartments, to a gated community.
Academic Rigor The teachers have current real-world experience they strive to ensure that students are prepared for the real world.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for class. Take advantage of your teacher's office hours.
In three sentences Teachers with real world experience. Access to a variety of tutors. The campus is easy to navigate.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are lots of clubs and organizations that you can get involved in. The Greek life on campus is awesome. It's not very big so it is easy to get to know pretty much everyone in all the houses. Since UMSL is in St. Louis and Metrolink accessible things off campus are really easy to find as well.
Food and Dining The food is ok. The dining hall on south campus gets old after a while, and the meals are so expensive. I think the meal plan is a rip off. $1600 for 4 months? What 120 lb. girl can eat that much food? None of them.
Dorm Life The dorms are the BEST. Living in the dorms allows you to meet so many new people. It is impossible not to make friends if you live in the dorms. It is kind of expensive but totally worth it. There are also lots of scholarships out there to help with the cost.
Academic Rigor The Honors College has amazing classes. They are challenging but very interesting as well. Some of the other classes on north campus aren't as stimulating...
Tips for prospective students Apply early and for all of the scholarships! There are so many things you can do on campus, so make sure you get involved. It is a GREAT way to meet new people!
In three sentences UMSL is a great school to go to. The opportunities at this school are phenomenal because there are so many clubs to join and people to meet. The only downside is the fact that it is a commuter school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety All around campus are emergency button posts that direct you straight to 911. 25/7 UMSL police patrol. UMSL is also a gay/trans/les/queer friendly campus. I never hear of anyone getting hurt or beat up or robbed.
Greek Life There a many frats and sororities to join. All frats and sororites are located on a single ross, all side by side. Options: Sigma Pi, Sigma Tau, Pi Kappa Alpha, Zeta Pi, and even a music frat: Phi Mu Alpha.
Clubs and Activities Housing assistants create events at the dorms. Such events included bonfires, themed and competitive res hall games, zombies vs humans, assassins, christian clubs, game nights, Prizm: LGBTQ group, safe zone, history club and more.
Great for these types of students Relaxed, liberal, hard working, free thinkers. Good handicap services as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Lots of geese and nature life being so close to a national park. Weddings are held regularly in the honors college. The honors college is an old monastery converted into an academic building, but still holds weddings.
Bang for the buck free 24/7 public transportation, personal scientific research can produce grants and scholarships, indoor and outdoor pool, free IT service, and the dorms are suites, you get your own room. UMSL is the cheapest, yet one of the best colleges, academically, in Missouri.
What to do for fun There's an indoor pool, game room, lounges for studying with friends, a park and golf course right next to campus, libraries, and free public transportation that can take you anywhere in the city in case on campus activities aren't enough.
Tips for prospective students Go to class everyday and the professors will notice you. They can boost your grade for attendance and participation. Try to live on campus, this will leave you with many resources for homework, job opportunities, and attending school 10 times easier. Keep a positive attitude and don't be afraid to as questions.
In three sentences UMSL is a very positive environment with very helpful and friendly people. UMSL's science research facilities are one of the top ten in the country. UMSL has ratios of teachers to students at a 1 to 23, in other words, the average class is 23 students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to be surrounded by friendly people.
Tips for prospective students I am a prospective student, so I would like some tips.
Bang for the buck I'm out of state, so tuition will be a bit expensive. I hope I get the Midwestern exchange program. This way I only have to pay instate tuition when I attend this university.
Will enjoy being here The campus looks great and friendly!
Will learn a lot I have visited this campus, and it looks like a great fit for me. I plan to apply and hopefully I get accepted. I'm really excited for college in a year.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very very unsafe. I did not feel safe being on campus
Greek Life greek life is very small but they all seem very close knit.
Clubs and Activities clubs and activities are not that prominent.
Great for these types of students commuter and non tradition students. People not looking to live on campus
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none that I'm aware of. The Honors college building is rumored to be haunted and used to be a convent!
Bang for the buck Tuition at UMSL is going up. I feel that this is a good school for someone who is just looking to get a degree.
What to do for fun Go out. There is not very much to do on campus. But so much to do in St. Louis!
Food and Dining Dining facilities are usually dirty. The food is decent but very utilitarian.
Dorm Life Dorm life is almost non existent. Being that the campus is mostly commuter based, there are not many students living on campus. It is better to live off campus, I didn't find the area very safe.
Academic Rigor Depending on what subject you are studying it may or may not be difficult. The honors college is definitely challenging but I didn't find my other courses challenging. I hear the nursing program is very challenging and well accredited.
Tips for prospective students Apply to the honors college! Join extra curricular groups. DO NOT live in University Meadows Apartments.
In three sentences The honors college, music program, and language department are exceptional. It is a good school for someone looking to finish or start schooling quickly. This school is not good for the traditional college experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus does offer campus police, phones available for help scattered through out both campuses.
Greek Life The campus offers a wide range of sororities and fraternities.
Clubs and Activities The range of clubs and activities out ways the room I have here in this space. The best place to look is on the website.
Great for these types of students If you like having everything you need on campus and enjoy being around a diverse student population this University fits your every need, including having a some what inexpensive tuition.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a wonderful patio with picnic tables outside when the weather is nice and the student center shows movies, has tv's, computers, food, and quiet places to study.
Bang for the buck I have worked hard for my degree but the feeling of accomplishment that I have far at ways any sweat I have endured. Tuition is affordable and they have plenty of financial aid to offset the cost.
What to do for fun There are many activities, clubs and sports to be involved in. Check with students the website or your adviser.
Food and Dining The food and dining are excellent but can be a little pricey.
Dorm Life I can not speak on dorm life from personal experience. A lot of students commute to UMSL and live at home.
Academic Rigor College classes in general require self discipline and hard work. Classes at UMSL are not necessarily difficult or easy.
Tips for prospective students Look up professors on the internet for feedback from past students. Ask as many questions as you need from other students and take advantage of the Math and Writing Labs they are a huge help.
In three sentences The math department's chair is wonderful for helping students better prepare to complete their academic goals. The class sizes for the most part enable student teacher communication. The campus is friendly and has a very diverse population.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety at UMSL is taken very seriously. The on-campus police are constantly monitoring what's going on, and are ready and available to get a hold of by phone. Being in a big city at night it is always nice to have someone with you when you return to your dorm or on-campus apartment. UMSL police can be reached from any parking lot by a telephone with a blue light above it. They are always more than happy to walk students to their cars or homes.
Greek Life I personally got to experience a bit of the Greek life at UMSL by attending parties and witnessing my boyfriend pledge and become and active of a fraternity. UMSL has a great greek system with many opportunities to join, or to just associate with the greeks themselves. They host a lot of events that you can get yourself involved in even without wanting to join.
Clubs and Activities As I have said there are so m any great activities you can get yourself involved in, some being; late night munchies during finals weeks, study sessions, throwback nights where you get to act like a kid again, and much more.
Great for these types of students Students who love all the fun of a big city but not living in it should definitely choose UMSL as their future place of learning. It has a great location with lots of on and off campus activities and it only minutes on a metro ride to downtown St. Louis.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One unusual, but also very fun, tradition is Mirthday which is known as the college's birthday. There is a huge festival, lots of game stands, and, what every college student loves, free food!
Bang for the buck UMSL is a research one university meaning that the professors who you learn from are also the ones that do the work and write the books you study from. They give you the lowest possible price for this, along with the metro pass, and use of all of the on-campus amenities.
What to do for fun There are always, and I stress always, many great activities to do on and off campus. With a free metro-link and metro-bus pass you can get to downtown St. Louis and to the famous strip of the Delmar Loop to do just about anything and everything from concerts to shopping.
Food and Dining There are so many places to eat and so many good foods that are both on and off campus.
Dorm Life I loved the dorm life and if I could afford to go back I would. Being from out of state, living on campus helped to allow me to open up to many different people and make friends.
Academic Rigor They do such a great job in succeeded to help their pupils get the best and highest education at the greatest price for a research college.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students shouldn't be afraid to ask questions about the school. Everyone there will help you and answer the questions as best they can, and if they do not know, they will find somebody who will.
In three sentences University of Missouri-St. Louis is a great school; it has a great curriculum for any major. There are always lots of things to do and people to see. It is also always easy to find help.

Food and Dining A lot of choices to eat from all over campus ..... good food. you even got good food places close to the school
Dorm Life Dont stay on campus but the dorms are very nice. they look like mini apartments
Academic Rigor Pretty simple
Tips for prospective students Get ready for the long walk around campus. try to schedule classes closes to each other to avoid long walk.
In three sentences the school is great, i love the campus, the atmosphere and the staff is so energetic and nice. I love how you have many great places to choose from on campus to eat as well as the food places close to each other. Categories Comments Bang for the buck If you're interested in engineering, then this school will give you a bang for the buck because it has a joint engineering program with Wash U. You get both colleges on your degree for the UMSL price.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a lot of activities and organizations available for students to get involved in. If there is not an organization that you are not interested in, then you can start your own and get people who have similar interests to join. If enough people join, UMSL will give you funds to better the organization.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to stay on campus if it is possible. It is so much better at this school seeing as though almost the whole school commutes to campus. This way, you will not be apart of the group of people that walk around not knowing anyone.
In three sentences UMSL is a very good school, and it has a lot of major programs that are top 10 in the country. At this school, there is always something to do and a very wide area of activities for students to be involved in. Although there are not as many sports programs as some other schools have, it is still always something to do at UMSL.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The on-campus police are always around, constantly monitoring everything. They are easy to get hold of as there are red phones located in each building that will connect you directly to them. They are always willing to walk someone to their dorm room or car if someone is feeling unsafe.
Clubs and Activities There are many student organizations for the students to get involved in. And if there isn't a club that interests you, then you can start your own club, and UMSL will give you a specific set budget to start off the group, given that you have enough people to start the club.
Great for these types of students The college is great for anyone, as every type of student can fit in here easily, due to the diverse environment of the college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The student center has a Pilot House close to the cafeteria, which is painted with vibrant colors and has a stage, where many events happen, and is also where the Subway is located. Just being in this area, instantly lifts your mood, as it is a place where students can simply come to hang-out in a colorful setting.
Bang for the buck UMSL is definitely giving you your money's worth, if not more. It has the lowest tuition rates among the colleges in that area. And if you're interested in the engineering program, this college has a joint engineering program with Wash U. This means that you will get both colleges on your degree for the UMSL price!
What to do for fun There is always something to do on campus. If you don't want to take part in one of the events hosted by one of the campus sororities, then you can go for a swim in one of the many swimming pools in the college gym. Otherwise, you can hit the books or just relax in the quiet of the library.
Food and Dining The food and dining on campus is a little pricey, but the service is good, especially at their on-campus Subway. However, there are many different places to eat dotted around campus, and vending machines in every building.
Dorm Life The dorms are clean and there is little noise, making it a suitable place to study, if you wish to stay in your room. The rooms can be accessed only by key entry so there is a certain level of privacy.
Academic Rigor The course is only as difficult as the student makes it. As one UMSL professor says, Chase the knowledge and the grade will follow. Keep this in mind and you are sure to succeed. At the beginning of the course, the professors let their students know multiple ways to contact them. There are also various labs around campus if you need additional help, or when the professor is unavailable.
Tips for prospective students Some of the classes can be tough, especially some of the chemistry and biology classes, so be prepared to study hard. However, all the professors are willing to help, so don't be afraid to ask for help. Also, try joining a study group, if you study better with your peers, as this will help a lot in the long run. But don't forget to have fun along the way :)
In three sentences UMSL is a very diverse college. To help the students improve themselves and their study techniques, regular workshops are offered at no cost. The teachers are really helpful and always willing to help their students, as well as extra study sessions when exams are close. It is a good college for those looking for a home away from home, as the tuition rate isn't as high as some of the other colleges in the area.

Categories Comments Campus Safety posts with phones and emergency buttons around campus and campus police patrolling
Great for these types of students A lot of foreign exchange students
Bang for the buck My bill as an undergraduate nursing student is about $5,500 a semester before subtracting my scholarship. Great value since college is always expensive its better than most.
What to do for fun Students get a metro pass that is covered in their student fees so traveling downtown is easy and fun
Food and Dining Now a subway and many other eating options from pizza to subs to sushi
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms and honestly most don't they are very expensive and so many don't even know where they are since most don't live there.
Academic Rigor All classes and professors are different but UMSL isn't easy on the rules that the professors have to follow with academics.
Tips for prospective students sign up for the early bird special to get your books so you don't have to wait in a huge line. Also if possible get the carpooling pass you split the cost which is very expensive for parking ($18 per credit hour)
In three sentences I love the campus it is the perfect size mapped out in a good way. I like my school and it is the best school for a great cheaper price.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have had no problems with safety on campus. Generally, I walk with other students and bus stops are in well lighted areas and are available until the last class. I would rate safety a four.
Greek Life I belong to a sorority and love participate in events and activities sponsored not only by my sorority but others as well.
Clubs and Activities There is always something to do on campus. It seems as though each organization or club has a genuine interest in promoting networking and hosting out reach activities to keep students engaged. I rate UMSL's student engagement and/or enrichment activities five stars.
Great for these types of students USML is great for Missouri and Illinois college freshmen who are not sure about campus life and may be a little afraid of attending college more than a few hours away from home.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I enjoy the private study rooms on campus.
Bang for the buck Tuition at UMSL is reasonable and as well as the cost to stay reside in the dorm. There are always opportunities to participate in work study to assist with covering the cost of staying on campus. Bang for the buck rates five stars (I would rate it above five stars if I could)!
What to do for fun I belong to a sorority and send a lot of time participate in various events and community activities sponsored by the group. I also engage in other activities offered by the various organizations offered on-site. I also love sitting by the pool and studying on nice days.
Food and Dining UMSL has a number of dining facilities as well as a snack shops around the campus. The dining facilities offer a variety of food choices and is always fresh. In addition, there are a number of other off-site restaurants near the campus. I would rate the food and dining four stars (only because I have a food allergy and sometimes I cannot consume the main course of the day).
Dorm Life Dorm life at UMSL is very rewarding. Many amenities are with walking distance to include laundry facilities, a snack shop, a kitchen and each room also have a microwave and dorm-room small refrigerator. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The homecoming week not only includes a game and dance at a fancy place here at UMSL. We play a game of Where's Louie. We have to find a picture of our mascot that is hidden somewhere on campus. Instead of having an American football homecoming game, we have a Spanish football homecoming game.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UMSL is the safest campus in Missouri. They have many Metropolitan Police stations and have security within the campus. If you are afraid of walking alone, you can even have a police officer accompany you.
Greek Life There are many sororities and frats located on campus such as Sigma Pi, ZTA, Delta, Sigma Tau, and many others. They usually have many parties so if you're a party person, this should be fun!
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus such as Students of Service, Pre-Optometry Club, Bio club, Chem club, Colleges Against Cancer, Bible Study, Golden Key Membership, Vietnam Student Association, Muslim Student Association, International club and many others.
What to do for fun There are many events on campus and you will get emails about them. There are also parties that are hosted by the Frats and Sororities that you may want to attend. There are also volleyball and basketball tournaments that you might go to. These and many other events are very fun especially when you are with your friends.
Food and Dining UMSL has many places that you can eat, there is a Subway on campus as well as a cafeteria called the NOSH. The NOSH has a variety of foods from fast food, soups, coffee/tea, to stir fry and sushi. There is also another place called the Provincial House and this is like a buffet. You only pay twelve dollars and can order as many things as you wish. They have a great amount of dishes, from breakfast, to lunch to dinner and dessert.
Dorm Life The dorm life at UMSL is great. People are helpful and there is a store within the dorms which allows you to purchase food for when you're hungry. There is a library located by the dorms, so if you can't concentrate in your room you can always go to the library. Also the dorms have a residential adviser and you can talk to them about any issues you have. There are many activities hosted at the dorms and you are welcome to attend. There is also a kitchen and laundry so you can avoid taking your clothes to a local dry clean.
Academic Rigor UMSL has a great academic rigor. The classes are of university level and it all depends on the type of course you will be taking. For example if you are taking science classes, it might seem hectic because of all the terminology you will have to know, but English on the other hand requires elaborating on a topic. In other words, each course has its own difficulties and it all depends on the amount of time you put into your studies.
Tips for prospective students When starting your college career, stay focused and avoid slacking off. Many freshman come to college with the perspective of a high school student, always remember college is more challenging because you are on your own. In high school teachers would often remind you of homework and let you finish late assignments, college requires you to be independent. There is no such thing as reminders, unless the professor is kind enough to do so and all work must be turned in on time.
In three sentences University of Missouri-Saint Louis is affordable, and you will get the same quality education as you would in any other university. UMSL has the safest campus surrounded by Metropolitan police. UMSL has one of the best Engineering programs and is partnered with Washington University in Saint Louis.

Great for these types of students This school is great for working adults!! The classes are in the evening and only once or twice a week.
What to do for fun It seems they have a committee for activities and they go on quite a few trips throughout the year. I don't attend any of the outings.
Food and Dining Since I don't live on campus , I don't know a lot about the food and dining, but the few times I did eat at one of the dining halls the food was good and inexpensive.
Dorm Life I don't stay in the dorm.
Academic Rigor Academically the courses are tough but can be managed. All you have to do is study study study. Take the online test for your books. That is a great study technique.
Tips for prospective students Study study study. The nursing program is very tough. You can not have anything going on in your life that will distract you. One bad grade can mean failing a course. Stay focus and eliminate any negative things going on in your life.
In three sentences I am a weekend part-time student in the nursing program. So far it seems the staff is very dedicated and very eager for you to learn and not fail. The school parking kind of sucks because the buildings are not really close to the parking lot, but other than that I'm glad I picked UMSL.
