    Bang for the buck

YES! One of the main factors why I choose the University of Nebraska, they offer great scholarships!

    Am enjoying being here

The University of Lincoln truly became my home away from home. For the first time ever on my summer vacation, I can truly say I cannot wait to go back to school

    Am learning a lot

The absolute only reason why I only put 4 stars is because as being a freshman I had to complete some general study classes that I felt was impractical for my major and felt I didn't benefit from. The classes designed for my major I would without a doubt give a 6 star.

If you don't know what you want to do, UNL will help you figure it out. You won't waste your time here. It's also great for English students. There are a surprising amount of Engineering scholarships available. If you like to be involved in activities (student council, sports, clubs) there are tons at UNL.

    Tips for prospective students

Search hard for financial aid. This goes for any college. There are a lot of scholarships out there just for college freshmen, and if you don't get them now you never will. If you don't know what major you want, there's a great general studies department to help you out. You'll get your requirements out the way sooner if you stay with them until you're sure what you want to do. If you jump into a major, you might end up taking classes that will be useless to you later. Most people end up switching eventually, so you're better off with the general studies people. Look into housing off-campus. It's a good way to save money. I moved into an apartment downtown at the end of my freshman year, and it's saving me about $4,000. I ride my bike home for lunch and save tons of money that way, too. Also, bring a bike. It's cheaper than driving and MUCH cheaper than parking. UNL parking permits go into the high hundreds. On the other hand, it's nice to have reliable parking downtown for other things like concerts, movies, shopping, etc.

    Bang for the buck

I'm sensitive about money. I'm paying more for school than I want to (I'd like if it was free). UNL has helped me a little with scholarships and a grant or two. Mostly I have loans. I wish there were more options for financial aid, but I've exhausted the resources they've provided me with. (That's why I'm here). Otherwise, it's a pretty solid education. I don't feel like my (huge) loans are being wasted. There are a few basic requirements that I wish I didn't have to pay for (science--I took astronomy). They make me feel like I'm in high school still, with all the wasted classes (when am I going to USE this?). But those classes are few and far between. The classes I've taken have been meaty and interactive. At the same time I don't feel so overwhelmed that I stop going (except for that astronomy class). It's a delicate balance.

    Am enjoying being here

I lived on campus in Sandoz residence hall for my first year. The dining halls around campus are great--with a meal plan, you have access to all of them. They just remodeled Sandoz after I moved out, and all of the other residence halls are pretty up-to-date. Lincoln is a great town. It's somewhere between a town and a city. It's bigger than most places in Nebraska, but it's college-centered, not business centered like Omaha. UNL has two campuses--downtown, and East campus. The downtown campus is the main campus--East campus is mostly for agricultural studies and overflow of classes. Downtown Lincoln is perfect for college students. There are a few clubs with live music. Lots of delicious, affordable restaurants (Chipotle, Noodles & Co.) as well as regular fast-food and more pricey options. There are movie theaters, great options for used clothing stores, and plenty of green spaces for Frisbee and other stereotypical college activities.

    Am learning a lot

There are a wide variety of classes offered. I'm an English major, and UNL has a great English program. It's home to the Prairie Schooner, which is a highly regarded literary magazine. There are a lot of great poets here and even in my freshman year I learned a lot. There are also a lot of opportunities for customizing your education. You can work with your professors to make sure you're getting what you need out of your classes.

Univeristy of Nebraska-Lincoln is great for... FOOTBALL LOVERS- the huskers football games are AMAZING, its a completely different experience at every school but I've got to say, seeing the flood of red every single game ENGINEERS- This is a GREAT school for engineer pursuers. The college of engineering is very skilled and although difficult, it is a great school. SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE IN A SORORITY OR FRATERNITY- This campus is mainly greek, and the sorority house's and fraternity house's actually surround the campus, they are closer to your classes then the dorms are! If you think you need people to study with or tutors, this campus's dorms are made up of floors where everyone has your major! It's EXTREMELY nice! You can always walk right next door if you have any questions! IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS CAMPUS OR SCHOOL PLEASE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE! :)

    Tips for prospective students

Visit as many schools as you can before you set your heart on one, and even though it may sound scary to go away from your family and friends and leave everything your used to behind, don't be afraid to pursue and try something different. You will learn to respect and love your family so much more. Really consider the price of the college and think about how much you will actually have to be paying. I am paying for my own college, and even though it is a lot of money to go to the University of Nebraska, I think I am gaining so much for the money I am putting into the school. Don't be afraid that you will not make friends... I PROMISE everyone feels the EXACT same way you do! The sooner you figure out the college you want to go to, THE BETTER! What I mean by this is; Take your time narrowing down the colleges you like and visiting them, BUT as the end of your senior year approaches, your going to want to enjoy it without the stress of college on your mind! So, take your time thinking about choosing but get it done in reasonable time to ENJOY your senior year! HAVE FUN! this is the BEST time in your life! Go somewhere you are going to have a great time and be able to study too! This is the time before reality starts for all of us in the working world. Good luck and hope you really consider all I've said!

    Bang for the buck

Although going to an out of state school is expensive, I think it is completely worth it. I recently visited my old hometown, and saw my friends that all went to the same college. They are all still the same and hanging out with the same people, where as I got away and was forced to grow up and meet new people. The football here is AMAZING and is now entering the BIG TEN! (who doesn't LOVE that?!) The campus is so pretty, and all classes are within ten minutes walking distance so you usually will never be late to a class! It is very greek here, meaning a lot of people join fraternities and sororities, which you can rush for during the summer. Overall, this is a great school for the price you are paying and although there are COLD winters, I wouldn't choose to go anywhere else!

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE being here in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am from Iowa City, Iowa and I think choosing to go out of state was very scary not knowing anyone from Lincoln but it was probably the BEST decision I've ever made in my life, even though my family was not a huge supporter of leaving Iowa, I would recommend leaving wherever you are and trying something different because more then likely you'll end up loving it just like me!

    Am learning a lot

Looking back at high school, I never really applied myself to learn as much as I could. Now being in college, its a whole new schooling system and it means a lot more when you are learning for something you are going to do for the rest of your life. I am majoring in Biology and have learned SO much already in my first month and a half already. Everything from how to study, to how to take a test correctly, to individual concepts to even knowing how to make friends.

UNL is great for types of students wanting to meet a lot of people and network. There are so many opportunities to be had at this university if you just take advantage of them!

    Tips for prospective students

    Study!

    Bang for the buck

The University of Nebraska College of Business in a nationally recognizable program, and I urge students to enroll!

    Am enjoying being here

I have enjoyed my experience at the University of Nebraska greatly. The teachers and alumni are amazing, along with all of the students. I didn't become involved in the Greek Affairs, but instead participated in many activities offered through the campus intramural department. If you are a high school student wanting a highly competitive recreational atmosphere to participate in, UNL is the place for you!

    Am learning a lot

I am a current student at the College Of Business at the University of Nebraska, and I give this college 5 stars. The teachers and classes are exceptional, making it definitely worth your money. If you choose to attend this college, you will not regret it. However classes are challenging, and require you to study! Always study.

UNL is great for students who are looking for a challenging and rewarding college experience, and those who want to do more than just learn. You will walk out of here not just a better scholar, but a better person. Your college experience is what you make it--you can get as much or as little out of it as you choose. And at UNL, you are given all of the tools and resources to make it great.

    Tips for prospective students

College life is undoubtedly better than high school, but don't forget why you're there! Treat your classes like a full-time job. Show up every day, on-time, and do your work. Take advantage of the resources that are put there for you, such as your professors' office hours, teaching assistants, and don't forget about the upperclassmen! They might've taken the same class, or know the professor, and might have some tips for you!

    Bang for the buck

There are tons and tons of scholarships that you can apply for. After your first year, you just have to fill out one application for your department/college and they will do the work for you and look for any/all departmental scholarships that you qualify for!

    Am enjoying being here

A wonderful thing about UNL is that there are so many people and everybody is really friendly, so the chances of meeting friends that share your interests are very high. Even if you come from out of state and don't know a single person when you move in, I can almost guarantee that you will have at least one friend by the end of the first week of classes. Another great thing is the variety of activities you can get involved in on campus. There are so many student organizations, so while you are here you can work on developing your character and leadership as well as your mind.

    Am learning a lot

At UNL, you will take a lot of classes that pertain to your major, but you will also have the opportunity to take elective classes on diverse subjects that will make you a well-rounded and well-informed individual. You can choose classes in the subjects and at the difficulty that interest you, so you can make your college education as challenging as you want it to be.

Great for these types of students

Anyone really. I guess if you're into sports, you'll enjoy the spirit and atmosphere of cheering on Big Red. If you're the type of person that likes to meet people with the same interests or major as you, you'd love the Learning Communities. If you're major is undecided, that's fine, too. They love working with you to help you figure out what your passions and interests are. So again, really anyone is great for becoming a Husker. :]

    Tips for prospective students

The Nebraska Union will be one of your best friends. :] Well, it was to me anyway. It has a post office, a mini market, the University Bookstore, places to hang out and eat, a Wells Fargo, and plenty more for student access. You'll want to try and get involved as much as you can handle as a freshman. It'll help you grow closer to the campus and meet new people! Attend floor events. Join a Learning Community. But above all things, make sure you get homework and studying done early so you have time to not only do other things outside the classroom , but to give yourself a bit of leeway to correct anything that you may have messed up on before an assignment is due.

    Bang for the buck

The professors [that I have] are all amazing and love to keep you chuckling and have you participate in class. My out-of-state tuition is horrible though. :[ Coming from a family (me, my mom, and our two cats in an apartment) with very low income helps, yet doesn't help at the same time. Financial Aid has helped a ton, but I'm still having to take out extra loans (which I vowed never to do). Other than that, what I've gained from my classes so far is very intriguing and makes you think. I love it. :]

    Am enjoying being here

It's hard being away from home, but I guess I'll eventually grow into being here and adjust soon enough. I LOVE the downtown area. Although I haven't had a chance to really go do much there, I love it. I'm a city girl, so I immediately connected with that. The campus is confusing at first, but I've kind of gotten the hang of it.

    Am learning a lot

I feel like the Math Placement Exam is a bit ridiculous to have to take as a freshman to see what class you should take based on about 18 questions, but I guess it's acceptable. Aside from that, even though I'm a freshman and haven't been here for too long, I feel like I'm learning useful things in the classes I'm taking. Although you have to fulfill curtain requirements as a freshman, there are SO MANY choices in classes you can take to accomplish those credits.

    Campus Safety

UNL's campus is located in a very safe part of the country. The university uses a text messaging alert system that if you sign up for it, you will be immediately notified if anything out of the ordinary is going on. The campus is also well lit and I feel very safe walking around at any time of day.

Great for these types of students

UNL is a perfect option for those students who are pursuing a career in Agriculture/Agronomy, Nutrition and Health Sciences, Engineering, Forensic Science, and Food Processing/Technology. Many students are very active, which you can see by the steady flow in and out of each campus' recreational centers.

    Bang for the buck

This university is incredibly affordable for both in-state and out-of-state tuition. There are also many programs in place to ensure that anyone who gets accepted at UNL can afford to attend (i.e. College Bound Nebraska).

    What to do for fun

Even if you've never had interest before, the football culture in Lincoln is infectious! Saturdays in the fall are so much fun it will make you wish that football season was year round. Go Huskers!!

    Food and Dining

You can get an a 5 or 7 day meal plan that will allow you to eat at the dining halls on campus. (Essentially this is all-you-can-eat, which can either be a good or a bad thing.) If you take a short walk from campus, there are a ton of restaurant options as well. Something for everyone; Thai, Mexican, Pizza, Mediterranean, BBQ, etc. There are also a few places located inside of the Union.

    Dorm Life

There are so many different options for living on campus at UNL. With tons of new dorms and apartments, there is definitely something for everyone.

    Academic Rigor

The classes at UNL are challenging enough that you don't feel like you are wasting your time but not too difficult that you feel like you are in over your head. If you are having any problems or not understanding the material being taught in class, there are so many resources on campus that can be a huge help. I have spent many afternoons in the chemistry resource center and there is always someone there to answer your questions.

    Tips for prospective students

UNL's campus is easy to navigate but I highly recommend planning out your classes with distances in mind. There is only 10 minutes between class periods and with two different campuses, you could find yourself panicked if you are running late. If you have to go back and forth, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. I also recommend living on campus, either in the dorms or a greek house, if at all possible. This will give you an opportunity to meet more people, spread out your classes, and give you the ability to become involved in one of the many on-campus organizations.

    In three sentences

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a great school with a comfortable campus that will become your home away from home! With so many clubs and organizations to join, school spirit is high and there is always something fun to get involved with. If sports are your thing, Husker athletics have so much going on and never disappoint.

Honestly, I don't know who wouldn't enjoy UNL. The football culture of Nebraska is fantastic and can suck you in easily. If that's not your thing, there really is a group on campus for most interests. UNL makes sure that with little effort on your part, you will feel included and soon be chanting, Go Big Red!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions. I have a unique situation that requires somewhat awkward conversations at times, but I have not found anyone unwilling to discuss it if that's what it took to make me feel comfortable at UNL. Many people in authority, including other students, have gone out of their way to seek input on what they are doing.

    Bang for the buck

I would say this is awesome. Tuition seems reasonable for a public school, though this is the only college I have attended. Of course, there is an increase in tuition fees for out of state students, but there are also many scholarships. Quite a few people, definitely more than I expected, have some kind of scholarship. Even if it is for $1,000 or less, it is money and incentive to do well.

    Am enjoying being here

I was hesitant in my choice of UNL, but my decision to stay became clear soon after I arrived on campus. I met friends through a student organization and they have lasted throughout the semester. One thing to keep in mind about Nebraska is that it is a different culture. When I first arrived, I thought I was being mocked because students were so nice. Nope! They truly were that genuine.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are all enjoyable. I have not come across a single professor that has not offered assistance out of class. They have also been open to answering questions after class, as long as this does not interfere with the next class or a meeting they must attend. I have heard of some professors being absent for illness, but only one of mine has ever been gone, and that was to present papers or research in England and Italy! I must say I have been a bit disappointed in the level of difficulty of certain classes, but I have also been in honors programs my entire life and I applied to UNL after the honors program deadline had passed. I intend to join it next year and I am sure my opinion of classes will improve.

Great for these types of students

UNL is great for any type of student. From city kids to farm kids, you will fit in if you give this school a chance. I thought I would stick out in the crowd with my camouflage coat and cowboy boots, but I soon found out I wasn't a rare breed.

    Tips for prospective students

You should live in the dorms your first year or get involved in the organizations provided at school. Getting to know people from all walks of life is a very important aspect of college.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an out-of-stater, you better be filling out scholarships or come from a wealthy family. I believe the costs of parking, housing, and tuition is ridiculous.

    Am enjoying being here

I came from out-of-state not knowing a single person. When I first moved into the dorms, I thought it might be the worst year of my college career, but after a few months my opinion was completely reversed. The number of people I have met is unbelievable. UNL brings a wide range of people together, so you are bound to run into people with many similar interests.

    Am learning a lot

I dreaded being in school for another four years, but during my first semester, I had professors that made the class interesting even if I didn't like the subject. Now, you may not always get that amazing professor, but regardless, you are going to leave this school with a well-rounded education.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who's unsure what they want to do with their life should come to UNL, we have amazing general education classes and career services here. Also, we have a huge multitude of majors so when you finally do come to a decision chances are slim that your major wont be offered. Also for student athletes, the university is very conscious of the commitments student athletes have to their sports and are very accommodating for the most part. They will also get the full support of the student body as UNL prides itself on it's support of Husker Athletics in any form! If you want to meet people from many walks of life, if you want to discover new parts of yourself, if you want a wide variety of classes and a chance to grow as an individual then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the place for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Students who are planning to come to UNL would do well to go on a tour of the University before making their final decision. Campus is HUGE and this can be overwhelming and frightening on the first day when you only have 10 minutes between classes and no idea where you're going. I've known more than one person who had to drop out because the school was simply too big for them. Another tip is to room with a stranger, I know how scary that sounds, but trust me, you'll be grateful you did. If you room with a friend you might use them as a safety net and this could prevent you from really branching out and getting to know all the new people in your life. My last tip is to enroll as an undeclared major, or at the very least, keep an open mind and take a random selection of *applicable* classes your first semester. You might be shocked at what tickles your fancy and eventually leads you to your ultimate academic passion and career.

    Bang for the buck

I am getting an amazing education for really, a lot less money than some people. Other comparable universities cost up to $12,000 more to attend than UNL, and with no greater of an educational value. The University did a great job lining me up with prospective scholarships and helping provide with me as much financial aid as they were able including grants, loans and a generous work-study.

    Am enjoying being here

I love college, and I love UNL! This University does everything it can to ensure that everyone has a great time. The University Programming Council hosts fun events about once a month (including concerts, plays, dances, midnight pancake feeds, etc) and other clubs and organizations always have something going on (Soap Carving Club, Nebraskans against the Unethical Treatment of Squirrels, Intramural Water Polo), and the dorms have dances and mixers as do the Greek houses. If there is an activity you want to do, it's here, and if it's not, the University makes it easy to create the group and I bet you'll find a fair few friends to join you!

    Am learning a lot

UNL has a world-renowned staff and their classes show it, the professors are great, they really know their subject material and many are engaged in ground-breaking research in their respective fields. What's more, if you ever have questions on any subject there are resource centers all over campus to help you out. But best of all are the students, while I'm learning tons in my classes, I'm also learning outside of them as I frequently discuss life, the universe and everything with my friends from class and roommates.

Almost anyone can find their niche here, but you may have to do your own chiseling.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved early with things YOU want to do, NOT what your parents, friends, roommate, etc., want you to do. Try something new that you didn't do in high school that you don't know anyone who's involved. Nebraska has tons of options. Do you like to eat pancakes and wear plaid? Join the Lumberjack Club! Have a passion for working with philanthropies and maintaining an active social life? Rush and join a sorority or fraternity. Do you love animals and want to go on an annual squirrel safari? Join the Nuts Club. There's something for everyone here.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like the University of Nebraska-Lincoln provides me with a well priced education. I feel confident knowing that I will have the skills I need from one of the top programs in the nation to be successful in my field.

    Am enjoying being here

As an out of state student, I didn't have a hard time making friends like I'd expected. Nebraskans tend to be reserved but very amiable, and I've met several out of state students as well. Get involved early, and don't be afraid to ask questions as well as doing research on your own. There's always something fun happening on or around campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am consistently impressed with the faculty in my department and am usually pleasantly surprised by the faculty for my required classes. I haven't had many problems getting help or meeting with professors (or TAs) outside of class.

Anybody can go to UNL and should; there are no restrictions. If you want to go, then there shouldn't be anything to hold you back.

    Tips for prospective students

Be willing to try out new things. Go to a club that you never would have thought to join. Attend a lecture from a visiting professor. Walk the campus at night with friends. But most importantly, enjoy it! There is so much to do on campus that sometimes you feel like a little speck, but if you get involved you become more than that. Indepedence is the first step to having a successful and fulfilling life. Courage and Confidence will come alongside it. But you must be willing to try new things.

    Bang for the buck

If your going to a University then expect to pay quite a bit. For the most part housing and tuition is right on the money, but some of the extra expenses can be daunting. But in the end, UNL works with its applicants to give them the best experience that they can have. I myself never felt like I couldn't get help from financial aid. So if your willing to work or look for scholarships, then there is no way that you can't tackle the money issues, especially when the campus gives you every opportunity to do your best.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is clean and safe. Twenty-four hour assistance is always available and you are never without information. If you need something, then you need only ask and you will recieve. Despite its size the campus feels incredibly homey, and although for some it might seem a bit daunting at first, it does become a home away from home. Night life, just a block away from the main campus, also allows for freedom of choice. And the nearness to stores and restaurants makes it convienent and comforting. Lincoln is a city that is easy to navigate, so there's no getting lost. All in all, UNL is a great place to live and very enjoyable.

    Am learning a lot

UNL is dedicated to giving students the best education possible. For some students, extra requirements might be a hassle. But in truth, they are just a stepping stone to a better future. A well rounded education will take you anywhere, and that is why I give UNL Five stars. They are determined to make you ready for a competitive job market. As long as you are willing and ready to do the work, then the requirements are no obstacle. Most are catered to your major anyway, and those that aren't can be fun and very informational and might even spark your interest for another major. In the end, UNL is outstanding! The instructors are amazing and all the work you put into it is worth it.

Great for these types of students

All kinds of students will do well here. There's a major for you here and if its not perfect, you can work with a professor and create your own study plan. There's an organization for everyone and a whole bunch of people waiting to meet you!

    Tips for prospective students

Spend lots of time getting involved. I'm positive that you've heard that from your parents, your counselors, and anyone else preparing you for college. But it's so true! When you go, you'll meet people that are a lot like you or are radically different from you which piques your interest right away. In the coming years you'll be so glad you can put down the So-and-So Club on your resume because it looks great to employers, and it was just fun hanging out with these people once a week. High school are college are so incredibly different for many reasons, but one of them is that you have to carve your own niche out in college, while in high school it was handed to you. Or you could talk to everyone, so you always had tons of people you knew in a class. In college, you have to awkwardly try to befriend tons of people, but once you do, you'll have the time of your life. The first weeks of school go by fast, but they're a blast. Trying to do everything would be like trying to pin down a cloud. But grab a friend (or ride solo) and go immerse yourself. If you have high school friends, it may feel like you should go hang out with them because now you have all this freedom, but there's plenty of time for that later! They'll be here all year too. :)

    Bang for the buck

I'd have to take a neutral position on this. Even public schools are getting expensive these days and tuition rates are only rising. But UNL is a great school and if it takes more money to be here, I'm very willing to put that money down.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere of campus life is so alive. I always felt like I could be involved on any given day. The Greek system is very involved on campus and the Greeks can be wonderful role models. The food is good (in the cafeteria, ice cream everyday!), the people are nice, and there's always something going on.

    Am learning a lot

This is an incredible, reputable school. You may not know it before you walk in those doors, but by the time you leave, you will. I'm confident in all of my professors, I really enjoy coming to class even when I'm tired, and I love listening to their lectures because they're so knowledgeable. Language classes are especially good at filling you up with information everyday.

Great for these types of students

Lincoln is a great university for students who aren't afraid to try new things, make tons of new friends, and most importantly.. those who love college football!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be intimidated by the large lecture halls, sit in the front of the class and you'll never know the difference. Also, get to know your professors right away, that will help you make a personal connection and you will feel more comfortable going and talking to them during office hours if you need extra help during the semester.

    Bang for the buck

Although it is quite a bit more expensive for out of state students, most of the students know they are getting a high quality education and would say that the tuition costs are worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Lincoln is a great place to be a college student. There's always something going on downtown, and during the fall semester there's nothing better than relaxing from a tough week of classes with a little Husker football!

    Am learning a lot

In two years I have honestly never had a bad professor. Although most of the freshmen and sophomore classes can be in large lecture halls, if you are willing to put in the work outside of class and show up to lecture every day, you will succeed in learning and understanding the material.

    Campus Safety

University of Nebraska has been given a ranking of an A+ for campus safety. You won't have anything to worry about when your here.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a great experience. There are over 30 fraternities and sororities on campus and the rivalries a lot of fun.

    Clubs and Activities

Intramural sports are great! Very competitive but possible to bring home a championship!

    Bang for the buck

For me, coming from out of state, with no scholarships, this was a very expensive investment. But it has been an experience that I would do all over again in a heartbeat if I could.

    What to do for fun

Lincoln is a great city. Being that campus is located right next to downtown you will always find things to do. There are multiple movie theaters, restaurants, bars, and other entertainment scattered throughout the city. You will never be bored in Lincoln.

    Food and Dining

Dining halls are great. It is very convenient to be able to walk 30 feet to get a variety of buffet style food every day. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln it is an all you can eat unlimited meal plan so you can go to as many dining halls as many times as you want throughout the day. You have a choice between 5 or 7 day meal plans.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! I loved it so much my freshman year that I became a residents assistant. Living on campus is a social experience that you will probably only get at this time in your life. Students living on campus have statistically much higher grades than those off campus and it is much easier to meet people by opening your door and having a floor of 50 people to run into. Then move to another floor and there's another 50 new people!

    Academic Rigor

This is not an Ivy League university, but you will still be challenged every day in your classes. You will get out what you put into it.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your class work. It could be easy to get behind if you are not used to the college pace of life. You are in college for the education first and foremost.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been a very welcoming community of students from all across the world. The students, staff, and alumni of the university do a great job to make you feel at home and keep you constantly having fun. You will not have a moment of boredom at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Great for these types of students

UNL is good for people who like to challenge themselves through practicums and work outside of the classroom. Also for those who like to take advantage of opportunities like lectures from professionals, conferences, clubs, and lots of other extra-curricular activities. It is a pretty large school too so it is good for people who can deal with or thrive on anonymity, or those willing to take the extra step to be seen above the crowd.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in activities and keep track of them well so you can start building your resume right away. Learn to prioritize your time and do what needs to be done soonest first, even if that means working on a consuming project during a class that doesn't take attendance and you can catch up on easily. Also it is a dry campus, but there are still parties in town so have fun, but not to the point where you have to leave class because you are too hungover. I've seen that way too many times and those kinds of mistakes will put a damper on the number of teachers who will write you good letters of recommendation.

    Bang for the buck

The classes and fees are somewhat expensive but not compared to a lot of other colleges in the area. Of course community colleges are cheaper and can be a good way to go, but they lack the prestige of a four year university and can feel more like high school than college.

    Did enjoy being here

The best thing about being on campus is a sense of scholarship that you don't find at a community college. There are tons of opportunities right in front of you, and something for everyone.

    Did learn a lot

I am a past student, then I transferred to Southeast Community College, and am returning to UNL in the Fall of 2011. The University of Nebraska Lincoln has really good professors for the most part, but it's best to ask around about which professors to take. I had one that I feel like I didn't learn anything from, but the rest have been really knowledgeable and passionate about their fields which always helps retain interest and increase learning.

Great for these types of students

Science Majors Honors students Musicians Humanities Majors

    Tips for prospective students

You DO need to attend classes, even if attendance is not taken. College moves faster than high school, and you might need help at first. There is no shame in that. A lot of people do, and there are SO MANY resources at your fingertips. Use them!! Get involved in what's going on across campus. There are lots of great organizations and it's a fun way to meet new people. Take advantage of residence hall life.

    Bang for the buck

From what I've heard, overall UNL is a great value --for in-state students. For out-of state students, it's a little more pricey, but it's still not terrible. It's much cheaper than many other schools, and I think that, on the whole, you get a lot for what you pay.

    Am enjoying being here

I am not originally from Nebraska, and was initially incredibly skeptical about going to UNL for school. However, I quickly grew to love the campus, the city of Lincoln, and Nebraska as a whole. People who tell you Nebraska is boring and There's nothing to do there are completely wrong. The campus is fantastic, the student activities are great, residence hall life truly feels like home, and the overall environment is wonderful.

    Am learning a lot

UNL has a fantastic undergraduate program. Students are exposed to both large classroom settings (150+ students) and small classroom settings (>30 students). The classes are at a very appropriate level for students coming from a high school environment into the university classrooms. The classes are well-designed and, nine times out of ten, very well taught. The university moves much faster than high school, but if you apply yourself and work appropriately, you will learn a lot in your first year.

I feel this school is great for any student. It's very diverse in it's programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to take the bus to East Campus the day before if you have a class on that Campus. It will help you find what building you need and you won't have as high of a chance of getting lost.

I feel the school's program is worth the money and the dorms are a great place to stay. The campus is beautiful as well.

Great for these types of students

Husker fans, but anyone would probably fit in somewhere in this school. UNL is filled with Greek members, sports fanatics, soap carving lovers, and etc. Its a place for people looking for a good education that will prepare them for the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, get to know your professors, and just enjoy the college experience. Most importantly, look for financial aid because getting education is definitely not cheap.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is expensive. Living in the dorms for the whole school year is around $8,500 and an estimated tuition is $7,648.00 just for residential students. Although, the school provides a various number of scholarships applying for financial aid is probably very important for anyone wanting to become a Husker. However, money should not scare anyone away completely. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a great place to get an education and simply an amazing place to just grow as a person.

    Am enjoying being here

Honestly, I had a rough time at adjusting to a big campus after my roommate had transferred out to a different college. However, it was not long until I started to meet a handful of people through the student organizations I joined and simply from talking to people on my dorm floor.

    Am learning a lot

One of the best aspects of being a student at UNL is being taught subjects by amazing professors. As a biological science student, many of my professors also teach the next corresponding class, for example my Chem 109 teacher also taught Chem 110. I think getting use to a certain teaching style helps with learning. However, all the professors offer assistance and guidance in their field of study. Not to mention UNL offers multiple tutoring centers around campus.

    Campus Safety

Despite being in a downtown area, UNL has amazing security and the police number is offered straight off the bat, when joining the college.

    Greek Life

Many people choose going Greek. The Greeks at Nebraska may know how to party but they do many charity events and they are very open to all people wanting to join.

    Clubs and Activities

UNL has many clubs and activities to join, and all the clubs are close-knit, making it easier to meet people.

Great for these types of students

Honors kids have an awesome dorm and great resources like study rooms and helpful, easy-to-contact advisers. Students who are excited about Greek opportunities would enjoy Nebraska as well since there are so many. And those with strong religious ties, Nebraska has many strong religious groups that you can join.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The football games are important to the entire campus. You have to go to at least one and participate in the crazy Big Red traditions.

    Bang for the buck

For the cost of a lower level college, you get one that is in the Big Ten. Other Big Ten schools don't offer this quality for this price. Take advantage of this.

    What to do for fun

At UNL, you are living right next to downtown Lincoln. The city itself may not be vast, however, it's safe and fun, providing for different interests such as parties, museums, restaurants, movies, and more. On campus, there are always different things going on and emails are sent out almost once a week to inform you on fun things to do.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls offer diverse choices in food and the food choices are different every day. Certain dining halls are better than others, but fresh, local food is the norm at Lincoln, Nebraska.

    Dorm Life

Every student can feel comfortable at UNL because there are so many different types of places to live. Each dorm is unique and the resident assistants and directors work hard to encourage interaction in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Overall you get back whatever you put in to a class. However, at Nebraska, if you put in effort to truly learn, the professors and the students will help you succeed and actually enjoy it. No passion seems off limits at UNL.

    Tips for prospective students

Be passionate about your education here because professors will help you, if and only if you try to improve and enjoy your learning experience. Don't be afraid of making friends off the bat either, the people at Nebraska are friendly and welcoming.

    In three sentences

The University is small but welcoming, with the ability to have fun in the downtown area. It is full of great professors who are passionate about what they are doing, but they also challenge you to learn. The community of students is diverse but comes together to form Big Red.

    What to do for fun

When I am not studying for fun I like to walk around campus and talk with people or go to the recreation center and play basketball. The recreation center is a very popular place for students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Also, Lincoln is a great city and there are tons of options to find entertainment from movies, shopping, laser tag etc...

    Food and Dining

The food and dining services that are offered are better than some of the buffets I eat at with my family. On holidays the dining halls are always decorated to fit the occasion helping to make a more homey environment. There is always something that you can find to satisfy your taste buds.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is an experience that every college student needs to experience. I will be a second year student in the fall and I chose to live in the dorms again. Meeting new people and being able to have friends right next door was something that I really liked.

    Academic Rigor

I believe that the University of Nebraska- Lincoln is a challenging school and helps excel the students in many programs. Nebraska has on campus police, safety button you can press if you're in danger, and in general is in a safe town. There is also a taxi service for students you can call if you feel you are in an unsafe situation.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is a very important part of Nebraska. Each house has a different personality. This makes it easy to find one that fits you. They are also very involved on campus and in philanthropy.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a very large number of clubs and activities on and off campus. Before the beginning of each school year there is a Big Red Welcome event where the clubs set up their booths, give out free stuff, and let you know what they are all about.

After the first semester the food can get repetitive if you don't go to the other dining halls. However, if you go to the other halls like east campus you will discover so many delicious options.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are on campus and very up to date. They are in the process of tearing down the last of the old dorms and building new ones. They can be loud at times so you may want to study somewhere else or buy earplugs.

    Academic Rigor

Academic Rigor depends on your major and the classes you take. I have taken difficult subjects with great teachers. Do your research on a professor before you take a class. There are plenty of resources on this campus to help you pass a class; you just have to look.

    Tips for prospective students

    Greek Life

Greek life is absolutely amazing here. It is much more low key compared to other campuses I have heard of. I was unsure if I wanted to go greek, but now that I am, I cannot imagine it any other way.

Make sure UNL has the major(s) you are interested in pursuing... Don't come to the school if they do not have your intended major just because you like the school itself.

    What to do for fun

Go out and have fun. Go visit the Haymarket area in downtown Lincoln or go to free events hosted for the students!

    Food and Dining

You get pretty tired of the meal plan after a few weeks and start eating cereal for dinner most days.

    Dorm Life

I live in HSS, so they are the more traditional halls. I like them because you don't have to clean the bathrooms or do a lot of dishes.

    Academic Rigor

I believe the academic courses are very difficult and challenging.

Husker fans! or football fans in general Want to get involved with the greek system, it's awesome! Looking for a home away from home? Perfect school for you:)

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus and go on an official tour, you'll love it! Girls, experience rush for sororities. Even if you dont want to join, you'll meet a bunch of people and get to move in early!

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love UNL. I was nervous because I'm from out of state and I wouldn't meet people, but getting involved on campus such as Greek life made it a really easy transition for me. Football season is the best, so much school spirit!

    Am learning a lot

As a student in the business school, I'm required to take all of these general classes unrelated to my major so this is why I gave it four stars.Otherwise the classes are great.

*In state students *Outgoing students *Engineers (though I didn't have luck here, UNL does have a great engineering college) *Students who are on track with normal level of studies (not too advanced). *Independent students

    Tips for prospective students

*Try to visit the university while classes are in session. You will get a better feel for the students and campus *Find short cuts to your classes. You can reduce walking time. *Go to your recitation sessions (UNL classes usually have required reci sessions, which can really help. My calc reci TA was much easier to follow than my professor.) *Go to football games. Try to find someone to go with. But don't stop at football. Go to volleyball and basketball and maybe even bizarre sports. *Try to make a personal connection with TAs and professors. Do this either by asking appropriate questions during class or visiting their hours. *Participate in floor events. *Try out several different clubs, but don't be afraid to decided something just isn't for you. *Take your classes seriously.

    Bang for the buck

UNL gives GREAT scholarships. This is ultimately why I chose to go to UNL for my freshman year. As an out of state student, the price UNL offered me was within $1000 of what an in state school offered me. They also don't have many hidden fees. You get unlimited meals (which are EXCELLENT! The #1 thing I miss about UNL), free internet (don't take this for granted!), along with many other free services.

    Did enjoy being here

I ended up transferring. It's hard to express exactly why I didn't enjoy my time here. I joined several clubs and was active in class. Even with this, I never really made connections. The students seem very closed off and will only make conversation if forced (completely different from my new university), even though at the beginning they seemed nice. Also, I spent a lot of time by myself, though this may be personal, I just found it hard to connect with fellow students. I did LOVE the campus, and I do miss walking on it. It is relatively small, but there is so much grass, trees, and flowers along with sculptures. Also, the campus is flat, which makes it easy and enjoyable to walk around campus and enjoy the outdoors. Also, having downtown Lincoln right next to campus was awesome. I didn't need a car. If I wanted fast-food or restaurant quality food or a movie theatre or a post office or unique small shops (in the Haymarket) it was all within a walking distance from 5-25 minutes.

    Did learn a lot

As a freshman, many people have to retake classes. Such as, I took AP Chem as a high school senior, and had to take a Chem class (for majors and engineers) that covered material that I had just learned. I learned not a single new thing, and I literally brought a novel to class and read during class. It was a big waste of time. However, I did take classes like General Anthropology where I did learn quite a bit. I aced the class as well. The only negative is that I never opened the book in this class either. Now, that might seem like a good thing, but to me it felt like the class was way too easy for a college level class and it encouraged me to only cram before exams. I learned less than I thought I would have as a freshman in college, especially when most classes are small (~30 people) and the biggest class I had was ~250.

Great for these types of students

I'm not sure. Probably those who don't mind larger classes, but like a great college town and atmosphere. I grew up outside of Lincoln and I've never heard a complaint about UNL.

    Tips for prospective students

I don't attend here so I'm the one needing tips!

    Bang for the buck

It's rather expensive to attend here, and I'll definitely have to rely on scholarships. It's also harder to get a Regent's scholarship here than it is at UNO.

    Will enjoy being here

I absolutely love this campus and Lincoln in general. Lots of different choices for living on campus or off campus. The whole school looks great, and I love how united it feels on Husker game day!

    Will learn a lot

Great for these types of students

I would say in my experience that this school can be more oriented to the athletic type students. But it does have its share of art students, engineering students, etc. You will find a fit. Even if it takes a little while to do so.

    Tips for prospective students

Study even if you think you know the material. If you aren't from Nebraska, look for schools in your state first. Get involved. I cannot stress getting involved enough. Literally the best thing I did. Try to make at least one football game. They're worth it. Pick classes that interest you. ACE gives you many options, take them.

    Bang for the buck

As an out of state student whose parents make average middle class money and whose grades/test scores are average, I didn't get much for financial aid. It is very expensive to be an out of state student. Unless you are certain of getting a good job, I suggest looking at your in state colleges first. That may save you about $40,000 in the long run.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being on campus at UNL. It's a relatively small one for a state university, but it has a lot of character. There is usually some sort of activity going on or club meeting. There are lots of intramural sports too. Or one can work out at the rec center. I would definitely suggest getting involved in something on campus. It will make your stay here much more enjoyable.

    Am learning a lot

UNL has a very interesting way of doing your general studies. They are called ACE courses. ACE stands for achievement centered education. In ACE you have a wide variety of classes to take for your generals. Even if they have nothing to do with your major you can take the class. Or maybe they do have something to do with your major and you can get a head start. Any class you take will challenge you a little but most will be an enjoyable experience.

Great for these types of students

UNL is great for students interested in a broad variety of majors and emphasis. The thing I like is the abstract learning styles. In my classes the teachers focus on teaching the material along with teaching abstract ways of retaining knowledge. The classes are taught so that they are unique and taught to help reach out to every type of learner.

    Tips for prospective students

Going to class is very important. Missing a lecture could result in missing information on an assignment or when a test may be. Time management is also important while attending any college. Some assignments may not be due for a week, but putting it off results in work from other classed building up.

    Bang for the buck

UNL is a little bit more expensive, but the perks that come along make it all worth it. Anything from free anti-virus on your computer to tutors for any subject in school. There are grad students in every field that are working on grad projects and can help with English papers and classes that they have already taken. Overall the perks are worth the extra cash.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy going to classes and outside activities. They have groups and clubs for anything from football to chess. I also enjoy the advantages of having basketball courts, fields for football, soccer and frisbee. The student body is very friendly and it's easy to meet someone in class to help study.

    Am learning a lot

I have taken a variety of classes at UNL and have came to find that the teaching methods are very helpful. Most of my classes consist of 20 to 30 students, which allows for plenty of interaction with professors. My larger classes have supplemental instructions that can be attended weekly if something is missed in class. I tend to find myself applying the knowledge I take from class in everyday life situations and conversation.

    Campus Safety

I honestly feel safe around this campus. It's not Lincoln if you don't hear the sirens for a policeman, firetruck, or an ambulance at least once a day.

    Greek Life

I'm not in Greek, I don't know much about it.

    Clubs and Activities

I was involved in activities, but then my major took over... join them if you have the time, because you meet great people. Just don't fill your plate too full!

Great for these types of students

It's well rounded. Although, I'm biased; come for the Film & New Media program!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you're a theatre major, it's a necessity to find yourself more often in the Temple Building/Ross than you are in your own dorm.

    Bang for the buck

As an in state student, it's a lot cheaper for me than it would be if I had gone out of state. I'm getting a really brilliant, Big Ten education for an in state and relatively decent price.

    What to do for fun

Hang out with your friends! Go to the Ross and catch a flick, peruse downtown, or go to the Sheldon Art Gallery. Being in downtown Lincoln, there's a decent amount to do, even if it's just looking around at the pretty old buildings.

    Food and Dining

Now, the dining halls are okay. They have their good days and they have their bad days. CPN is by far the best; only because it's healthier. Selleck is the most convenient, but I find myself always getting pizza and pasta there since it's quick.

    Dorm Life

Now, I don't know much about the actual dorms, but living in the suite style dorms is wonderful. The only downside is that unlike the traditional halls, I don't really know anyone on my floor. But having the bathroom, kitchenette, and the living space to share between four people is absolutely fine. We all get along and it's wonderful.

    Academic Rigor

It's tough. I never really studied in high school, but now I'm actually having to make sure I study before a quiz or exam because I want to my very best. ALWAYS set aside time during the day for a little bit of review. Even if it's for 20 minutes.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry about the size of the university, especially if you're a fine arts major. The fine arts department is like a small college within the university and you'll only ever see your classmates in your related majors more often than the rest of the university, except in your ACE required classes.

    In three sentences

It's a decently sized university, despite being a smaller school in the Big Ten. It's wonderful, and even though it's big, I found a family within the department I am majoring in.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

i would definitely recommend getting to know your professors on a personal level. asking for help, or just going to visit, outside of class allows them to get to know and recognize your work. that way, they can write personal recommendations for scholarships, internships, or jobs in the future.

    In three sentences

i absolutely love the architecture program here because the professors are extremely knowledgeable and talented at what they do. the classes have a very open and comfortable feeling and encourage class discussions. i have had a wonderful experience so far and look forward to learning more in the future.

    What to do for fun

It is a college town so a lot of activities cater to college students. Depending on what your interests are, Lincoln and the university can provide you with something that you enjoy. The campus has a lot of student run organizations, teams, athletics, etc; and since the campus is located a couple of blocks from downtown there is plenty to do on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

I would give food and dining a three out of five. Since the university is located downtown there are several good and interesting restaurants nearby. Food on campus is typical and does have variety-nothing spectacular but not bad either.

    Dorm Life

There are several dorms and sororities/fraternities on campus that lead an active social life. They are mostly located on the downtown campus and depending on your interests can help get you involved in community service, event planning and many other things.

    Academic Rigor

I would rate their academic rigor as a 3.5 out of 5. Of course this might depend on your major or course of study-for example, speech-language pathology is typically ranked within the top 20 in the nation. Don't worry, the professors will challenge you (mostly in a good way) and once you get into your core classes for your major they will challenge you even more and you will be able to see the practical use for it in your life.

    Tips for prospective students

Once you are accepted the staff will usually not hold your hand through things. While many can be nice and accommodating, it is not true for everyone and you should expect to put in some hours double checking things (like important dates, i.e. registering, etc, or studying abroad) and making sure that everything is in order. Unfortunately sometimes you are juggled between different people or different offices.

    In three sentences

University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a lot of offer a prospective student. With a wide campus located near downtown, UNL is ideal for a person who wants to get away but not venture to a city that is too big or overwhelming.

    Campus Safety

The campus has a police station located right on the outside corner of campus. The campus provides a number of emergency stations located around campus for the security of students. The campus also issues alerts if anything has the potential of posing a threat to students.

    Greek Life

Greek life is incredible. I would highly recommend going Greek because it helps you become much more involved in not only the campus and academics but also in philanthropic events and activities. It provides the opportunity to meet lifelong friends, hold positions within the house, and become more involved within the campus.

    Clubs and Activities

UNL provides a variety of inter-mural sports, club sports, and clubs. If one is looking to stay active and involved it's not difficult to do so at UNL. Lincoln encourages students to get involved and stay active!

Great for these types of students

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is great for engineering majors, agriculture majors, and business majors. In addition to students with such majors, UNL also provides a home for many other majors, athletes, and students that are considering this campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

HUSKER GAME DAY is one of the biggest, most exciting days of the year. The campus transforms into a sea of red as thousands of college students gear up to support the Huskers. The tunnel walk and Memorial stadium are breathtaking, setting them apart from any other campus.

    Bang for the buck

UNL is average when it comes to pricing. It's roughly $13,000 a year for in-state students and $20,000 for out-of-state students. The cost however is worth the education, experience, and opportunities.

    What to do for fun

UNL provides many events, concerts, and programs for students throughout the year to allow them to get out of their dorm/housing and have fun! Each year they bring in a celebrity singer and have them perform for students. UNL is also located in downtown Lincoln so there is a variety of shops, movie theaters, and museums to go to for fun!

    Food and Dining

There are four different dining halls on campus and each of them offer a wide variety of food options. They switch it up every day so there is always something new to try and so that you don't get bored with the same food. One of my favorite places to eat was Husker Hoagies which was a sandwich bar below the dining hall in Abel/Sandoz.

    Dorm Life

I lived in a dorm my freshman year and had so much fun! The quality of the residence halls is fantastic--they were pretty spacious and very homey. The dorms are conveniently located on campus so they are close to classes and parking. I would recommend Abel Sandoz as my first choice and Harper/Schramm/Smith as my second choice in housing.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are a very large part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They do everything they can to provide students with resources and extra help to guarantee success among students. The professors are very friendly and willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are from out of state, you will have no problem fitting in and finding your niche, there are so many opportunities and programs available to help you get involved and feel welcome. I would recommend going Greek, it is such a great way to make lifelong friends and to get adjusted to the campus. If you are not from out of state, you will feel as though UNL is just a home away from home and you can enjoy all the opportunities the campus has to offer!

    In three sentences

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a very pretty, serene campus. The professors are very friendly and go above and beyond to help their students. Husker game days bring the campus together as one and unite the students with the university.

    What to do for fun

Explore downtown and study off-campus sometimes. Go see a movie at the Ross on campus if you feel like getting away from the megaplex.

    Food and Dining

Although it is often little-appreciated, check out CPN. Their friendly staff (and GFL items) set them apart. Utilize the meal plan. Not many people realize that they can scan in to grab a snack mid-afternoon.

    Dorm Life

Get to know the people on your floor. Bond with your roommate. Get to know your RA. Dorm life takes some getting used to, but it will start to feel like home. Being on campus is convenient and conducive to meeting people as a freshman.

    Academic Rigor

Treat studying like a 9-5 job. It really helps to get things done earlier in the day and have a relaxed evening. Don't procrastinate. Go to class.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors, even though it may seem daunting. Get involved in your college; these are the people you'll be in classes with for the next few years.

Extremely safe. The Lincoln and campus police are always patrolling the campus.

    Greek Life

Great Greek life!! There are so many wonderful Fraternities and Sororities that all give back to the community. There are some fun social events that each house holds every year. Definitely something to check out!

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many great organizations to get involved with on campus. We have an event called Big Red Welcome in the beginning of the year where all the organizations and clubs on campus come together with their own booths. You can talk to them and start to sign up for clubs, as well.

Great for these types of students

Any type of person will be a great fit at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Everyone here is so diverse and there is always something for each person here. If you

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

For sororities, bid day is very memorable. You can see all of the girls screaming and running towards their houses when they find out what sorority they have gotten in at. The Broyhill fountain outside of the Union is where everyone goes on hot days to put their feet in the water and relax. Big Red Welcome is a time to find out about organizations and get free stuff (who doesn't like that!?). Husker football at Memorial Stadium is always memorable. On game day, Memorial Stadium is the third largest city in Nebraska. After the first touchdown, we always release red balloons!

    Bang for the buck

There are so many scholarships you can apply for here. We have a lower tuition rate among the Big Ten. There are many research positions, connections, and great people to meet here. You will always be learning, yet having a good time while doing it. UNL is by far the best decision I have ever made.

    What to do for fun

You can go see a movie downtown with friends, shop at the many stores downtown, go see a concert of play at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, get coffee at Starbucks, go the Rec center (Freshman 15...), play a pick-up game of soccer, or hang out by the fountain. There are so many terrific things to do on campus, as well as off-campus. You can't go wrong!

    Food and Dining

The food is really great here! There is a program called GFL (Good Fresh Local) that we have. It is based around food from local farmers. There are so many options to choose from. You won't be disappointed!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is pretty great. There is always something going on, yet if you want some quiet time you can go to a study room. Definitely a great time to get to know others and experience college.

    Academic Rigor

The professors here really push you to the best of your abilities and want you to succeed. There are different work loads for each person based on their majors, so do not except a Physics major to have little to no homework. Really push yourself and work hard and you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

You've heard this time and time again, but do not procrastinate. Make sure if you are struggling with something in a class to ask for help. We have some great resource centers that can help you out for Writing, Math, and Sciences. Do not be afraid to get to know your professors. They are the ones who can help you and write letters of recommendation for you for jobs and internships.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is one of the most exciting places to be during any season. There is a tremendous amount of school spirit and the atmosphere is invigorating. I love the college town feel with a modern twist that it withholds.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is amazing. I never feel threatened no matter what time of night. Lincoln itself it very safe, and the UNL campus is designed to keep students safe as well. You can call the police at any time of night to come pick you up if you don't feel safe. There is a free taxi service from 7PM to 7AM that will come get you from anywhere in lincoln and take you home. There is a police station right on campus too.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of UNL, but not so big that you have to be part of it to succeed.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone here and pretty much everything can be done at your leisure. Also, it is very easy to start up your own club or activity. How many schools do you know that have Harry Potter based classes or Quidditch teams?

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is academically motivated should go to UNL. You can have fun and learn!

    Bang for the buck

It's pricey, but what college isn't? UNL is wonderful. I'm having a great time.

You can go downtown and explore all the little shops. There are several museums on campus. The sunken gardens are beautiful and a good walk from campus. The capital is amazing and free to tour!

    What to do for fun

The university sponsors a lot of fun activities and the Hay Market downtown area is in walking distance for food, shopping, etc. The bus system can get you to the zoo. It can be boring at times but then you can just do movies or hang out with friends.

    Food and Dining

It gets old after a while but it's not bad. They have special bars with Mexican food, Asian food, make your pizza and salad, etc. It can be harder for vegetarians but I've been able to do it just fine.

    Dorm Life

I love living at the dorms. You're next to all your friends and on campus. UNL has traditional and apartment style dorms. It's a bit expensive but if you have any scholarships to cover it. it would be worth it. It is possible to find cheaper apartments near campus as well but walking in the winter would be unpleasant and parking on campus is expensive ($400).

    Academic Rigor

I think it's pretty easy so far. Some classes have a lot of reading and require large essays. Honors classes require more work but it looks better on your resume.

    Tips for prospective students

Use the resources available to you at UNL like the career center and the international affairs office. Go to your professor's office hours and get to know them-- they will probably give you an amazing recommendation letter if you do this. Don't skip class. It's a bad habit and it hurts you.

    In three sentences

Nebraska is a great school with a lot of opportunities. It has a lot of different programs, research opportunities and amazing advisers. The campus is beautiful with a fountain and a multicultural center connected to the union.

Great for these types of students

kids who want to go Greek, those who don't mind going to a large public university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There was an End-of-the-Year Bash at the Union that turned out to be very fun. There were carnival rides, food stands, caricature drawings, etc.

    Bang for the buck

Everyone agrees that college is way too expensive and because of the school's size, I didn't get enough one-on-one attention from my teachers like I did in high school.

    What to do for fun

There are off-campus parties most weekends if that's what you're into, otherwise there are tons of other options. I liked going dancing, relaxing in the dorms with my friends, and hanging out downtown.

    Food and Dining

I actually enjoy dining hall food! I'm not what one would call a master chef, so it's nice having a home-cooked meal that I don't have to prepare.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Selleck, which was interesting. The rooms were tiny, but you can't beat the convenience of living in the middle of campus.

    Academic Rigor

I chose to put four stars because I'm required to get a 3.5, which is very difficult to get as a freshman adjusting to the curriculum.

    Tips for prospective students

It's okay if you don't have a major in mind just yet. Most freshman don't! When you get here, just make sure you try hard.

    In three sentences

    Greek Life

THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. I didn't join the greek community until second semester, and I'm so glad I did. Everyone makes you feel so welcome when you find the house you're supposed to be in, and going out with your brothers or sisters is one of the most fun things to do bonding with your friends.

    Food and Dining

Selleck has the best food, but everything else is pretty comparable. Make sure to get Husker Hoagies (in the main floor of Abel) at least once a week, though the lines can sometimes be long. But it is SO worth it. You'll never finish eating Hoagies and still be hungry.

    Dorm Life

ABEL IS WHERE IT'S AT. I wouldn't have met my closest friends if we hadn't lived together on the same floor, and Abel is the only dorm with co-ed floors. You'll instantly have a group of friends to connect with. And try to do a learning community if there's one available for your major.

    Academic Rigor

If your teacher says attendance is mandatory, go to class. They want you to be there for a reason. You may think reading the book will be enough, but it's not. Most professors give answers to quiz and/or test questions in lecture, so GO!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come here if you don't want to. A few people I've met have come here for the wrong reasons. Make sure you come here because you want to. Make time to study, it really makes a world of difference. Even if your homework is optional, it's always better to do it for practice.

    In three sentences

UNL was the best decision I have ever made, even being an out of state student from seven hours away. The college's atmosphere and academics makes you feel at home, and the people are all so friendly. Even when I didn't know people well, there was always someone who wanted to make me feel as though I had been a part of their group of friends forever.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are very active on campus and I never felt unsafe. They are very diligent with their work and have great standards to maintaining the safety and justice of the college. My friend lost his glasses sometime in March and they are still updating him well into the summer, so they are very persistant.

    Greek Life

I was not in the Greek system but I have many friends who are still in them and they love it. They say it is a closely knit family amongst the college and I never hear people say they regret their decision. It is a great community, and each house is very active in it. With community service and devotion to their community, the Greek side has a great integrity.

    Clubs and Activities

There are countless clubs and activities on campus in Lincoln. For example, there is a club completely devoted to the preservation of squirrels on campus. If that isn't creative, I don't know what is. The clubs are very fun and are very accommodating to busy college student.

Great for these types of students

It is great for students who love to socialize and be active with their school. It is also great for the studious ones due to their great academics.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is home of Big Red Nation. Attending this school, it is imperative that you attend the Husker football games. Words cannot describe how much the state of Nebraska loves their Big Red football so you need to come and find out.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get what you pay for. It is a very reasonable college that gives a great college experience for all. It is modestly priced for all those who wish to attend, including those who are out of state. There are so many things that are there to keep you busy there is no question that you received a great value on your choice of college.

    What to do for fun

There is a good amount of things to do, whether it is going to the Bourbon and attending a great concert to seeing a movie at the Grand Cinema, there is fun things to do year-round. Even if you somehow find yourselves inactive, the city of Omaha is a short drive away.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining on campus is very accessible to the students who are living in the dorms. The food is very diverse so it takes awhile for someone to become tired of it. There are many dining halls and they are strategically placed so all the students who have a meal plan can access them easily. You need to be careful and pay attention to the hours when they are open and closed. I became frustrated so many times because I assumed wrong.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus give the natural college experience for the incoming freshman. On top of that, the floors are very closely knit due to a great floor government program across the campus so your floor will become a part of your family if you want them to. Most dorms have the genders split up by floor but Abel has girls and boys living on the same floors.

    Academic Rigor

They have a great journalism program along with a great arts and sciences college. They have graduate programs in many different areas so attaining your bachelors degree does not have to be the end of your schooling. If you apply yourselves and really discipline yourselves, you will benefit for the rest of your lives.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a normal college environment so learn how to effectively study and incorporate yourselves into clubs and groups. This college still has a real warm, back-at-home feeling so it will not be a huge transition from wherever you are from.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a well-rounded, down-home college with great moral standards for their academics and all their activities. It is away from Omaha, but not too far away. It is a great college atmosphere and the people in the city of Lincoln attending and not attending the college are great people.

I would recommend UNL to anyone interested in attending a quality university. It isn't as expensive as most of the other Big 10 schools, but still has the history and reputation of being an awesome university.

    What to do for fun

Obviously Nebraska football :), but their volleyball team ranks right up there also. Nebraska basketball may not be anywhere near the top, but still fun to attend. If you're into fine arts, they have a great performing arts department, as well as other fine arts exhibits, etc. There are also quite a few attractions in Lincoln, and tons of bike paths.

    Food and Dining

Since I don't live on campus, I've never eaten in the cafeteria, I've heard it's pretty good. There are a lot of restaurants and fast food places around the campus and all over Lincoln.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are more challenging than anything I've ever had.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you submit your application well before the deadlines so that you can be eligible for scholarships. Also, there are lots of fairly reasonable apartment complexes in Lincoln, so don't feel compelled to pay the high dorm prices. Be prepared for sticker shock on the parking permit prices (even dorm residents have to pay for parking permits). Bring a bike if you have one.

    In three sentences

UNL has a great football program, but there's so much more! It also has a great campus and the classes are challenging. The scholarships they offer so that in-state tuition can be paid by pay out-of-state students are fantastic.

I have never felt unsafe around campus. It is in a very safe area of town and there are a number of UNLPD kiosks placed throughout the campus to ensure that anyone who needs assistance will be found quickly.

    Greek Life

Although I am not a member of the Greek system, they seem to be very involved on campus. During homecoming week, all of the houses make floats for the parade and they put on philanthropy parties, such as Chi-O fro-yo.

    Clubs and Activities

There are literally hundreds of clubs to get involved with on campus. There are the more normal clubs, such as Christian groups and major-based clubs, but there are also some very unique clubs, such as the UNL Soap Carving Club and a Ducks Unlimited chapter.

Great for these types of students

UNL is great for students who are willing to work hard and who are ready to get involved in their new college's community.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are a great number of unusual things about the campus. Architecture Hall boasts the largest urinal this side of the Mississippi, Neihardt Residence Hall is rumored to be haunted (the RA's give ghost tours every October), and legend has it that the columns located outside of Memorial Stadium will fall if any girl graduates without having been kissed.

    Bang for the buck

This school is a fantastic value. It is one of the less expensive public universities in the nation and students receive a top-notch education.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun at UNL. What first comes to mind are the Husker sporting events, such as football games and gymnastics meets. Of course, the students themselves like to get involved in athletic activities too. A local swing dance venue, the Pla Mor, is a popular place for college students. The Lied Theater features live performances and the Grand movie theater is a short walk downtown. There are a multitude of restaurants and stores, and the largest city in Nebraska, Omaha, is only a one hour drive away.

    Food and Dining

Food varies depending on the dining hall. The best food on campus, by far, is the Hewitt Training Table, which is open to students for lunch. This dining hall serves salmon, made-to-order sandwiches, and features an absolutely fantastic salad bar.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life as a whole is absolutely fantastic. I came to UNL not knowing anyone, and am now constantly surrounded by people who I consider to be my best friends. This is facilitated by the multitudes of events that are organized by the dorms, such as dances and pancake feeds.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of the class varies depending on the subject. I have had 200 level classes that are easier than 100 level classes. Overall, though, I feel that the classes are challenging enough to ensure that I am really learning the material.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get involved! There are lots of different clubs, intramural sports, and events to be a part of. Some of the most unique clubs are Nebraskans for the Upgraded Treatment of Squirrels (N.U.T.S) and the UNL Soap Carving Club.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska Lincoln is a top-notch academic and athletic school. The atmosphere is open, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do. I would recommend this school to anyone who is interested in a classic college experience.

None of my friends had any issues walking back to their dorms late at night or early morning, male or female.

    Greek Life

I can't speak much on the Greek life, since I only joined an Honorary music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I had a wonderful time this year with them, though.

    Clubs and Activities

I was busy with my major and my performing ensembles most of this last year, however, the learning communities on campus are wonderful. Also, there are clubs for just about anything, from juggling (there's a very advanced juggling club) to a capella groups, to unicycling.

Great for these types of students

Speaking for myself, the campus is wonderful for music students, or athletically inclined students. There are many musical events and athletic facilities that are provided on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Ethnic Steps festival at the beginning of the year is always very cool - inside the student union is one of the country's largest multicultural centers. There are many different ethnicities that are represented.

    Bang for the buck

I loved the game-day atmosphere during football season - everywhere that one walks, one will see a sea of red; in the streets, around downtown, around campus, and especially in Memorial Stadium.

    What to do for fun

Go downtown; join a club; play intramural sports; attend a concert at the Bourbon, or at the Lied center (there are many professional, high quality musicians who play in Lincoln, including the San Francisco Jazz Collective, Itzhak Perlman, Doc Severinson, amongst many others, as well as a huge collection of ensembles from the College of Music at UNL) and most importantly, see some HUSKER FOOTBALL!

    Food and Dining

I loved my meal plan - Selleck's food had many options for me (I eat everything) so that I could have something different every day. However, there were many other places to dine on campus that were all wonderful, and had an abundance of food (which again, was great for me)

    Dorm Life

I loved staying in the dorms! I had the chance to room on the floor with the Music Learning Community, which also had the highest return rate of any floor on campus. Everyone was extremely social, and I made a ton of friends; however, they did quiet down when study time was needed with a polite request.

    Academic Rigor

I just completed my freshman year, so most of my classes were general education, but they varied widely in difficulty. However, classes within the Music building (music education is my major) ended up being very in-depth and some, very difficult. However, I learned a huge amount in these harder classes, so it was absolutely worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to branch out, especially if you're not a Nebraska resident and don't have friends going there; although, you may still want to do so. There are a million organizations and clubs to join in order to meet other people with similar interests, so there's never a reason to be left out. Make sure to work hard, and don't space off work; however, don't OVER-extend yourself, as that can take a huge toll on your focus, nerves, and overall well-being.

    In three sentences

UNL has an absolutely wonderful atmosphere, especially in the music program. If you like athletics, then you'll love Lincoln; the city becomes absolutely ELECTRIC on game days during the football season, as well as for other sports, such as volleyball. Also, the downtown life is always very exciting, and is very close to campus.

UNL continues to be one of the best rated educations for the money. It is the most cost-efficient in the Big Ten, but offers the same standard of education as the other schools. Gotta love good deals!

    What to do for fun

Despite the farmer/corn stereotype of Nebraska, Lincoln actually has a lot to offer students. There is an awesome downtown area within walking distance with a music venue, plenty of restaurants, bars, and a movie theatre. The most fun, though, is Husker Football Games! Go Big Red!

    Food and Dining

There are three dining halls on the main campus, plus Husker Hoagies (Subway-esque) and the Training Table, where the athletes eat, that you can eat at with your meal plan. I liked the variety of food, and there was always somewhere close to my classes to eat!

    Dorm Life

All of the dorms on campus are awesome and a great way to get to know people. The university is constantly remodeling in order to provide the best quality living arrangements to the students. I recommend Knoll, which are apartment style rooms, complete with a kitchenette, sinks, bathroom, and shower.

    Academic Rigor

The classes at UNL can sometimes be difficult, but the teachers are very understanding and helpful. There are help centers for almost every subject if you need some tutoring or someone to review your paper.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus for your freshman year to get that true college feel. There are many opportunities all around you, so take them! Being involved is what makes the college experience so rich.

    In three sentences

Going to school at UNL has been one of the best experiences of my life. There is always something to get involved with on campus and the atmosphere is great.

    Campus Safety

Besides the occasional bike theft, campus security is top notch. The dorms are locked at all times, and the campus police are great at helpIng out a student in need.

    Campus Safety

UNL has a very safe campus, with very little incident of any sort. There are campus police phones every few blocks and a health center in the middle of campus. Because it is downtown however, I would recommend not walking home from work or a late-night study session alone.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is very prominent on this campus, with houses almost everywhere and ads for philanthropy events and dances scattered all over campus. It's not impossible to be social and involved on campus without being in a sorority or fraternity, but it is a significant advantage.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of ways to get involved on campus, UNL has over 300 student organizations. No matter what your interests are, from Lumberjacks to Czech culture, there is a club for you. There are also lots of opportunities to volunteer in Lincoln, mostly during the Big Event, where the whole student body helps improve the community.

Great for these types of students

If you are very social, love football, and are interested in join the Greek System, this school is for you. With a decent study abroad program to boot, it is also great for students wanting to travel during their college career. It helps to be self-motivated, inquisitive and open to new experiences as well. There are opportunities to be found, as long as you are willing to find them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an agricultural convention of sorts every year in front of the student union, which perhaps is unusual to most but not to a native Nebraskan.

    Bang for the buck

If you receive a good scholarship, UNL is a very reasonably price school with a lot of good opportunities , if you are are willing to look for them yourself and do most of the legwork. I wouldn't say that the advisers are particularly helpful, but it is more than possible to find an excellent professor who can give you lots of good advice and insights in to opportunities.

    What to do for fun

Lincoln is definitely not a big, urban city that is perpetually active and lively, but it has many opportunities for fun. The University itself provides many activities such as concerts, carnival nights and Greek philanthropy parties, but Lincoln also offers a zoo, the historic Haymarket with lots of shopping and dining opportunities, and the Ross theater which shows the newest indie films.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dorms is average, but the dining halls provide nutritional information which is helpful if you are calorie-conscious. Luckily, Lincoln has some culinary gems throughout, including The Oven (Indian food) and Blue Orchid (Thai food) if you tire of casserole or sandwiches.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is actually rather good here, with the Resident Assistants putting together a lot of fun nights for floors to bond and even making floor t-shirts. I lived in Neihardt, the Honors dorm, and because it was so small it was very social and close-knit. There is also a dorm where you can live with international students, and most of them are pretty new and modern in style. There are plenty of comfortable places to study individually or with friends, and rooms are a good size overall. The recreation facility is a bit of a walk from the dorms, but well-equipped and you usually don't have to wait for a machine.

    Academic Rigor

UNL has pretty good academics, and I personally enjoyed the international relations class I took as well as the upper-level Spanish classes. They do use graduate students to teach intro level classes which mostly produces lacking results, but the upper-level classes are smaller and taught by very good professors. I wouldn't say that any of the classes I took were especially challenging compared to my last year of high school, but l learned from them nonetheless.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to visit the campus before making a decision, it makes a huge difference. Also, I highly recommend checking out the Honors Program because it is much easier to access all the different opportunities on campus when you are part of a group like that. Ask about clubs and organizations, study abroad opportunities and volunteer opportunities, you will be glad to know about them once you are in school.

    In three sentences

It's a good school with plenty to get involved with, but ultimately if you are more interested in rigorous academics and educational opportunities over Greek life or football, this probably is not the school for you. It is not very diverse, but there are many ways to connect with study abroad and international students if you look in the right places. Location-wise, Lincoln is not super urban but relatively safe with some good coffee houses to study in.

    Bang for the buck

UNL offers great scholarships, and with my Midwest Student Exchange program scholarship (which I highly recommend for fellow Midwesterners) Nebraska ended up being less expensive than my own state school.

    Food and Dining

Being that Nebraska is a largely agrarian state, you always have great options for eating fresh, organic foods on campus. GFL (Good, Fresh, Local) is a program that dining offers to students, served primarily at CPN and Selleck. Besides the mildly sketchy weekend food served twice a day, weekly meals are consistently good, bordering on somewhat delicious.

    Dorm Life

Well, I lived in the best dorm on campus, the Honors Dorm, Neihardt. Neihardt fostered a close-knit, nerdy community (nickname: Nerdhart) where everybody knew everybody. You can't underestimate the importance of this environment in a large state school. Getting involved in Neihardt Student Council (the governing body for the dorm) also helped me get to know more people. The other dorms (excluding Selleck) are more updated with greater amenities, but are louder and are farther from main campus. If you want a quiet, stable environment, Neihardt or Selleck is for you. If you want a dorm where something is always happening, Abel is your best option. HSS, at least to my knowledge, is the happy medium, but seems like miles away from campus. Overall, the dorms are pretty great at UNL.

    Academic Rigor

Granted, I decided to transfer after my freshman year, so I did not experience the full thrust of UNL academics in 300 or 400 level courses, but the academic rigor at UNL is average, at best. I never heard of anyone skipping out on a frat party because they had a really difficult test in History of Ancient Rome the next day. Academics are doable if you maintain a consistent, medium effort level. Honors Program courses are considerably more difficult, however, and require more work and out-of-the-box thinking.

    Tips for prospective students

Nebraska is a place where self-advocacy is increasingly important. No one will speak up for you if you don't prove how truly great you are. Real success can be met by making connections with professors and networking with individuals on campus. Don't be afraid to sit at the front of the classroom and ask questions. It may be cool to sit in the back and talk with your friends at the time, but what's really cool is to have research opportunities (UNL has a great program for students willing to research, UCARE) or expanded resources based on a personal relationship with a professor.

    In three sentences

UNL is a relatively solid state school that provides flexibility and, if you try hard and look in the right places, professors that are willing to provide personal attention for academic success. Lincoln is also a great college-town, with campus situated near some of the nicest, coolest, and cheapest restaurants and shops downtown. Still, I feel that the biggest thing holding down UNL is its lackluster attitude toward robust academics and its continuation of talking down to students (at least that was my experience).

There's always philanthropies from Frats and Sororites, even if you aren't greek, it's a great way to help out for a good cause and enjoy time eating cinnamon rolls, smores, hotdogs, singing, etc.

Dorms usually have events to offer you to go to for free or really cheap. Also, join a group of some sort! They usually will keep you entertained as well. Take a trip down to the Rec Center and do some physical activity! Generally, when you are on the UNL campus, you will always find something to do; the staff and committee members make sure of it!

    Greek Life

Disappointed in the Greek life, the Greek system here doesn't get their members to strive to meet people out of the Greek system, only in and then that limits people being able to form study groups.

    Clubs and Activities

All kinds of clubs and activities on campus. Pre program clubs as well as different team gatherings such as the cheerleaders, equestrian, dance squad, Block and Bridle, Judging Teams, etc.

Great for these types of students

Students who are willing to put partying on hold.

    Bang for the buck

UNL is expensive but they are wanting to be more like Ivy league schools so the teachers don't teach you much and then they expect you to figure it out on your own. Sometimes this is good sometimes this is bad, depends on the class.

Lincoln, Ne is big, there is always something to do. Go to a movie, put putt golfing, a lot of places to eat, bowling on East Campus.

    Campus Safety

A very safe campus. In fact, safety is always number one priority, especially on game days when security is well staffed and educated. They also take measures to make sure that only people who are supposed to be in dorms, are in the dorms, but checking in everyone who enters after midnight and having its own campus police department, separate from the city police department. There's also a an option for 1 free ride home for those who are inebriated and shouldn't drive themselves home.

Great for these types of students

Any person who loves football. Anyone who has ever set foot in the state knows it is the most important thing in Nebraska, with beef in a close second. Its also perfect for those who want to live in decent sized cities with easy access to quieter communities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No unusual traditions here, but there are a few funny locations. The first is the large Woolly Mammoth sculpture that has become famous as a Facebook picture for Nebraska students or anyone that has had the pleasure to be in the presence of the life sized statue. The other is home to the largest urinal west of the Mississippi, located in Architecture Hall.

    Bang for the buck

UNL is cheaper compared to many other schools and you get a lot more for your money. They try their best to spend money in the interests of their students, like updating the recreation centers, and even a bus pass that is good for the whole year to use on campus and city wide bus systems.

    What to do for fun

Well, its a football school, so the Husker watch parties for away games are some of the best. When you're not doing that, there are intramural sports and even sometimes lazer tag and bowling on east campus

    Food and Dining

The food is excellent. There are several different styles and variations of foods in all of the dorms. Even the sea food, rare in Nebraska, is delicious. And they are constantly trying to guide you in the right direction towards avoiding that college 15.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a decent size, but fairly stereotypical of a college, one-room dorm made to fit two students, but there are also campus dorms in apartment style. There are several events hosted by the residents halls such as socials, root beer pong, and concerts all the time. The campus is dry, but no less fun than those that allow alcohol, just a bit safer.

    Academic Rigor

They are here to challenge you, but not over work you. They are realistic to the needs of students and if they do give you a handful of work or something that may be the hardest thing you'll ever learn, they will let you know and give you as much help as they can.

    Tips for prospective students

Classes are only ten minutes apart. Even though many of the buildings are in the same general area, some people have classes way across campus, so learn how to use public transportation. Also take serious advantage of teacher and teacher's assistants' office hours. They are there to help you.

    In three sentences

UNL is a rewarding school with an incredible campus life with many chances for rewarding experiences. The instructors are not just here for your money, they are here for you. It's an incredible feeling to be a Husker, especially when you experience Husker game days.

I have morning practices and I have to walk across campus early in the morning and I never have to hurry or watch my back. On each corner their are blue pillars, these are safety towers that have phones you can access an officer at any time if you don't feel safe.

    Clubs and Activities

With over 200 clubs there is something for everyone. I would suggest though that new students look into a club or organizations dealing with their major. Not only will it look good on resumes it is also easy to meet people who will have the same classes as you, making it easier to find study groups.

Husker Hoagies are located on the first floor of able-sandoz. This is a nice quiet place for lunch, also many coffee shops are available for students to study and have a quiet relaxing hour or two.

The campus offers many opportunities for students to have some fun on campus. Their are intramural teams for all different types of sports. For those who don't like sports UNL has over 200 clubs.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls have delicious food and they make eating there very entertaining. Meal plans allow you to go and eat at any of the dining halls, my favorite hall is the one where they offer GFL (grown fresh locally) options. You don't always have to gain the freshman fifteen.

    Dorm Life

I do not personally live in dorms but many of my friends do, and listening to their stories and visiting their rooms I am disappointed that I am not living there. Rooms are arranged nicely so that it feels less like a hotel and more like a personal room. Also each dorm has something unique about it to give you other places to go.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is an excellent school, where you not only guided through your academic career but you also learn to network. Opportunities abound at every corner, even though the school has over 25,000 students it still feels like a personal school.

Great for these types of students

Athletic, outgoing, above-average in the classroom.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The mammoth at Morrill Hall (a museum on campus) is used as good luck for the football team.

    Bang for the buck

Going to UNL is a no-brainer for most Nebraska residents. It's by far the best school in the state, and it will provide you with a good education.

    What to do for fun

Intramural sports, plays and musicals at the Lied, bars and restaurants downtown, clubs, etc.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining halls is nothing to write home about. For upperclassmen, I would highly recommend moving into an apartment on or off campus in order to avoid it for two reasons: they charge you an arm and a leg for it, and you probably will not even enjoy it. Making your own food is much cheaper, and you will most likely like your own food better than anything they serve on campus. One good thing about the dining program on campus is Husker Hoagies. It's basically Subway-lite, but I tend to like it better than the actual chain.

    Dorm Life

Overall, dorm life has been just about what I would expect it to be. There are a lot of activities planned for floors and buildings each week, so there will more than likely be a few things you will be interested in doing. (They have anything from video game tournaments to pot luck dinners, in addition to celebrations for holidays throughout the year.)

    Academic Rigor

Just like any other school, certain programs are better than others. For instance, if you are interested in Engineering, Journalism, or Advertising, UNL is a very good school to keep in your Top 3. As far as difficulty goes, I have not personally been overwhelmed by homework, but I know others who have. A lot of that depends on what classes you take and your major. (Note: the better programs do not necessarily have more difficult work; rather, the work you do is more about gaining experience than memorizing facts from a book.)

    Tips for prospective students

Turn in your FAFSA early if you know you need financial aid. Time, very literally, is money when it comes to college, so don't take your time. (I have made this mistake. Take my word for it: thousands of dollars are at stake, so don't be lazy.) Stay on top of your classwork; it adds up quickly if you let it. Try to get involved with a club or sport. Intramural sports are incredibly popular here, and they're great for making friends.

    In three sentences

The campus and number of majors for students to explore are both large. The surrounding area of downtown Lincoln is extremely livable with plenty of activities and restaurants for students. Overall, the school is a good choice for students on a budget.

    What to do for fun

What can't you do is the question. UNL is in walking distance of downtown Lincoln which has an abundance of dining options, unique coffee houses and boutiques, and a movie theater. Also, there is never a night without an activity or fun event put on by one of the many clubs at UNL.

    Food and Dining

Each resident hall has a dining center attached or super close so food is always easy access. There is also a wide selection of food each day such as pizza/pasta, world's fare, salad bar, and a grill. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner always provide new choices and the staff are very helpful and kind!

    Dorm Life

There are a variety of dorms to choose from at UNL and all of them have been improved to accomodate more for the students. The rooms are a great size for two people with plenty of storage room. And the cleaning crew works very hard to clean each floor and bathroom daily!

    Academic Rigor

My first semester at UNL was very do-able academic wise. The professors are top of the line and give plenty of opportunities to meet with them if you have questions or are struggling. The workload and reading is different than high school, but without being in class all day there's a lot more time to study and have a social life.

    Tips for prospective students

A really important aspect to look into when considering a college is whether or not they have your major or program your interested in. If you're undecided try to choose one with a large selection of majors. That way you are able to take basic courses to find out what you're interested in.

    In three sentences

Going to UNL was the best decision I've made. The environment is comfortable and engaging. Husker game days also have an amazing atmosphere!

I did marching band this fall and it was honestly the highlight of my semester. I can't wait until next year!

    What to do for fun

The Rec Center is awesome and always has free, fun activities to participate in as a student.

    Food and Dining

    Selleck Dining Hall is awesome.

    Dorm Life

I had my own room this year so I personally enjoyed my room a lot.

    Academic Rigor

College is only as difficult and time consuming as you make it. Spend time doing what's important but also what's fun.

    Tips for prospective students

UNL is definitely a school to check out. I thought it was just going to be a small college with too many students that I already knew, but it seems to be the perfect size. I was scared I wouldn't meet many new people but my best friends now are who I met at school here.

    In three sentences

UNL is the perfect school for me. The campus is small yet spread out and it has a very home-like feel to it. All my classes this semester were only a few minutes away from each other and easy to get to.

Join an organization or club, they do a lot of activities and it is a good place to meet new people. Also intramural sports are a big part of campus life so they are a good way to get active and have fun.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are renovated in HSS and Abel so they are very clean and nice. The food is good and there is a lot of selection, but it can get old after a few months.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms (except Neihardt and Cather/Pound) are fully renovated with brand new dining halls. They are very nice and spacious. You get to know everyone on your floor pretty well and there are tons of events and activities going on.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are very helpful and kind. They aren't trying to fail you, they want you to succeed and will help any way they can. The workload isn't to strenuous, but that varies among majors and people.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in Neihardt if you are in the Honors program. Join clubs and organizations to get involved.

    In three sentences

It's a great school for anyone. The teachers are all very nice and helpful and the students are friendly. The campus can get a little dull on weekends, but thats because everyone goes off campus.

    Campus Safety

There are emergency polls located all over campus and the number for campus police can be found on nearly every sign or bulletin board. All the streets are well lit.

    What to do for fun

There's literally always something going on on the campus of UNL. The Union is a big hot-spot for activities. If there's nothing going on at the Union, you can be sure something else is going on elsewhere on campus.

    Food and Dining

The only good days for the food at UNL are on tour days because the school wants to impress potential students. The food has gotten progressively worse as the year has gone on. The dining halls, however, are always tidy and have an enjoyable atmosphere.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is never going to be fully enjoyable anywhere you go. There's always going to be noisy people, not enough space, and communal bathroom problems. It just comes with the territory of dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

I find all of my classes to be compelling, challenging, and for the most part, interesting. The professors here are very educated and know what they're doing. The tutor labs have proved to be very helpful.

    Tips for prospective students

I advise that prospective students go on college tours to make sure they like the campus, food, living arrangements, etc. of where they think they might like to go. I only ever went on one college tour and it was of UNL. I'm wishing I would have gone to more just to see what else was out there.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is about what I expected it to be. It is a prestigious school with a large student body that I am not use to. I am neither displeased nor overjoyed with my experience so far at UNL.

    Campus Safety

The UNL campus is a very safe place to be. Emergency phones are found very frequently all around campus. The University has its own police station on campus, with officers roaming around the campus and the residence halls at all times. Also, buildings cannot be accessed without a proper NCard that students scan to open doors.

    Greek Life

There are about 30 frats and about 15 sororities on campus, so if interested, you will likely find one that correlates with your interests and ambitions. None of the active greek houses do hazing, as far as anyone around me knows.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many UNL sponsored activities nearly every day somewhere on campus and there are numerous clubs and concert halls within a few blocks from campus as well.

Great for these types of students

UNL is great for really any type of student, ranging from the kids who want the college experience depicted in movies to the kids who just want to study and learn a lot in college. There are opportunities either way.

    Bang for the buck

UNL's pricing is fairly average for a large university. It also offers many scholarship opportunities for those who take the time to apply for them.

    What to do for fun

The University has many different activities for students to take part in throughout every week. Also, many students live close to campus, so if you are into partying, you can usually find a good place to party most of the time if you have decent connections.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at UNL is better than I expected. There are many different dining halls across campus with many different choices of foods in each one. However, as with any food, after a while the foods become repetitive and less appetizing.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty good. It has its obvious flaws, such as public bathrooms and less privacy than living alone. However, as long as you make yourself available, it is a great way to meet new people and develop a strong network of friends/ study partners in a short amount of time.

    Academic Rigor

The freshman classes are fairly easy if you put a decent amount of work in. However, many of the professors of the introductory courses are focused more on research than teaching, so befriending and frequently meeting with the TAs is a good plan for academic success. If you put enough work in, the exams will not be too difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

Make your decision to go here or not to go here as soon as possible because the longer you wait, the less likely you will be able to get a room in one of the better residence halls, get tickets for husker games, etc.

    In three sentences

It is a great school overall. There is a very large student body, so you feel as though you are part of something big. Because of the size, there are also many opportunities and activities that you can take part in on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I honestly think it depends on your program and your major. The Design program and UNL is pretty time consuming however I have friends in the teaching program who seem like they never have homework, it all depends on your classes and professors.

    Food and Dining

For dorm food, I was pleasantly surprised by the food at UNL. Each dorm changes what it serves every day so you do not get sick of eating the same thing constantly, but it stays similar enough so that you always know that there will be something there that you will like.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms was a much more enjoyable experience than expected. The rooms were bigger than most dorms that I had seen before, and the amount of utilities and things available to you while living in the dorms was incredible. Everything from ample study spaces to game rooms to help you take a break from schoolwork. There was lots of room for floor activities to help you get to know people in your building better. The bathrooms, although shared, never seemed to get too dirty since they are cleaned every weekday.

    Academic Rigor

UNL does a great job at creating courses that are challenging, but doable as well. As long as you try hard in each of your classes, completing the course with a good grade is achievable. Also, the classes are not too easy, making it so that students must work for their grades instead of getting by on slacking.

    Tips for prospective students

The most important part about University of Nebraska - Lincoln is to make sure that you not only keep up with your academics, but make sure you get involved on campus as well. Although study sessions may help you pass the test on paper, you can't find friends or experience with your nose in a book. There are so many ways you can prepare for your future and make friends on campus, and that goes beyond what happens in the classroom.

I always feel safe on our campus. Every couple blocks there are call stations that directly linked to our campus security. During our freshman orientation we are encouraged to call campus police for any reason if we feel unsafe and are given their number.

    What to do for fun

At the University of Nebraska- Lincoln sports are a big deal on campus. During the fall everyone goes to football games. The games are literally a lifetime experience, and every student should experience at least once. The rest of the time there are always events going on around campus like dances and many other things.

    Food and Dining

Our dining hall food is amazing we have 4 dinning halls on campus so you are never far from food. We also have restaurants in our union, and a sandwich shop in one of the dorms. We literally have every kind of food from Chinese food to pasta and pizza all the time. The best thing about our dining hall is that it is all you can eat.

    Dorm Life

Freshman year in the dorm's is most likely going to be the best time of your life. You meet great friends and are given opportunities to get involved on campus. All of our dorms are co-ed. Some are divided by floor some are divided by side. We also have upper -class apartment style living which are very nice.

    Academic Rigor

Each college within our university has high academic standards. You have to meet at least a 3.8 to be on the Dean's List in my college. The research done on the University of Nebraska campus is amazing and is truly ground breaking in each one of their respected fields.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for incoming freshman would be to live in the dorms freshman year. This will allow you to not only meet great friends, it will keep you involved in our highly active campus life. On the academic side of things i would suggest not jumping from major to major, go with your gut you are most likely doing what you love, and if you aren't sure meet with your adviser. They have jobs for a reason, so use them.

    Bang for the buck

UNL is one of the cheapest schools to attend while out of state, and many things are included within school fees that aren't at other universities.

    What to do for fun

Even though Lincoln is a small city, there are plenty of things to do for fun. There is nothing like football Saturday in Memorial Stadium, after all the stadium is the 3rd largest city in Nebraska on game day. Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at UNL is definitely something to experience. Having your best friends right next door, or down the hall, is the best way to adjust to college life. Tips for prospective students

Join a club, go greek or live in a learning community but don't do it to just do it, the more of an effort you make towards these things the bigger your reward will be. College is all about time management, and priorities; the earlier you figure those out, the better of an experience you will have. That being said, don't plan on doing homework on Game Day Saturday.

    In three sentences

Lincoln is a small city with an enormous amount of passion for life, learning, and of course football. While the Huskers football team is the reason you'll look at UNL, the people are the reason you will stay. No matter where you go next, you'll always wish you would have chosen the University of Nebraska- Lincoln the sooner.

Lincoln is virtually crime free, but the campus is the only exception. Be careful.

    Greek Life

Including over 40 sororities and fraternities, there is a lot to choose from! These are mostly extremely nice buildings and they do many activities.

    Clubs and Activities

    Many available to choose from!

    What to do for fun

There is not a lot to do in Lincoln. If there are some fun activities, it will be put on by sororities, fraternities, and clubs. Outside of the University there's virtually nothing. However, if you enjoy working out you should go to the Rec Center. It is free for all students, and has very good facilities.

    Food and Dining

If you live on campus, a meal plan is your wisest choice. If you try to eat within the Student Union or around the school, it will be too expensive and too spread out. Downtown Lincoln does have many dining options, however these are generally too expensive for the average student.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are average. Most of the residence halls have easy access to laundry, TVs, you name it. The meal plans that some of the dorms include are quite good. This is also a good way to meet people.

    Academic Rigor

As long as you pay attention, do the work, and study you will be just fine. However, the workloads of the classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln include a lot of readings, homework, tests, and projects.

    Tips for prospective students

Pay attention to the syllabuses, the professors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are very adamant on following it, so as long as you plan for tests, projects, or papers accordingly you aren't in for any surprises, and you'll have a pretty easy time. The other students in the classes aren't very social, so don't depend on meeting friends that way. If you are concerned about having a social life, join a sorority or fraternity, and involve yourself in multiple extracurricular activities.

    In three sentences

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has many pluses, such as extracurricular opportunities, ranging from sports to animal rights clubs. There are also many education abroad opportunities, as long as you are open to possibilities you can go, and most likely find a scholarship to cover you. The location of the University is probably the biggest downfall, seeing as there aren't any major cities nearby.

    Food and Dining

There is so much food! Dining halls are always pretty close to where you are anywhere on campus and the food is pretty good and has a large variety.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a lot of fun. Sometimes almost too fun. It is hard to study in dorms because there is a lot going on, but there are plenty of other places for students to go and study comfortably and quietly.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are tough and some aren't, but it all depends on your major and you have to keep in mind that this college does have professors that do major research.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not get caught up in all the activities and hooplah going around on campus. It is easy to forget about homework and go have fun, but you will regret it later. Also, make sure to get to know your professor and sit in the front row because it will help you stay focused, let the professor get to know you, and help you out in the long run.

    In three sentences

In college, you have a lot more free time and keeping yourself focused and busy is key. Balancing social life and academic life can be difficult if you don't have a set schedule and accept responsibility. Time management and using it wisely is almost more of a challenge than the actual classes. My tips would be to set aside a certain time window for homework and studying everyday and put your phone away during this time! The work will get done a lot faster and you won't be distracted. College creates wonderful memories and is the last bit of freedom we have before the real world. Make sure to enjoy it!

It's amazing to see how the city shuts down for home football games. Our stadium seats over 92,000 and all of Nebraska becomes the Sea of Red. We yell Go Big Red and have several post-touchdown songs that are also used in other sporting events.

    Bang for the buck

Other than the overpriced housing options, I think our money is put to good use.

    What to do for fun

Football games, dance marathon, numerous clubs and activities throughout the year. There's always something to look forward to on campus.

    Food and Dining

Food isn't bad, but the dining staff could use more organization.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are well built and accommodated. RAs work to make each floor a great environment for residents.

    Academic Rigor

Not every course is difficult, but I have been challenged by many.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to go to Husker sporting events, especially football games. Don't be afraid to get involved.

    In three sentences

UNL is a great school with many opportunities and possibilities. Our atmosphere and spirit are beyond words. I was instantly impressed with the positive attitudes of the advisors from he College of Education and Human Sciences.

    Bang for the buck

    Overpriced

    What to do for fun

There are bars downtown and the football games are a pretty big deal in Lincoln. Shopping is available if you have transportation.

    Food and Dining

There are fast food places in the union that are sub par but they are convenient.

    Dorm Life

I cannot comment I have not experienced it.

    Academic Rigor

The tests are difficult and require reading, studying, and discussion with others.

    Tips for prospective students

Research your professors before you sign up for a class. All teachers are not made equally. Some speak English better than others and some teach better. Be prepared to find study groups and tutoring help. Read the book before lecture. Go to all of your classes, even if you think you don't need to.

    In three sentences

Great atmosphere to go to school in. Large classes with many foreign professors. Help is available if sought out.

    Tips for prospective students

Try your hardest and do your work!

    In three sentences

The University is amazing. On a scale from 1-10 I give it an 8. It is full of opportunities.

Never had any problems myself, but Greek Row and downtown Lincoln can occasionally be problematic.

    Greek Life

    VERY prevalent

    Clubs and Activities

a lot to choose from, but quality is typically low

Great for these types of students

    agriculture engineering business computer science

    Food and Dining

Every dining hall but Cather/Pound/Neihardt is seriously lacking.

    Dorm Life

    Generally fine.

    Academic Rigor

Not particularly challenging. My high school classes were more difficult than my upper level classes here.

    In three sentences

This school is very heavily focused on engineering, business, and agriculture. There is a very lively Greek community, and the sizeof the school enables a lot of cliques to form. Expect very little if you have a liberal arts major.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe on campus. One on the main perks I love UNL and Lincoln in general. There will always be those incidents but at least not very often and not often on campus

    Bang for the buck

Colleges are pricey but UNL is fairly reasonable and you get a degree that many employers respect.

    What to do for fun

Join intermurals teams on campus. They can be super fun and get you involved. Go to the sporting events. There is tons of school pride and always a good time! Most the time you can get in free or discounted with your ID. Always watch for events coming up. The free concerts are always a blast.

    Food and Dining

The dinning halls on campus are right with tons of options. Also, off campus food is close and really great variety. Watch out for the freshman 15 :)

    Dorm Life

I've never lived in the dorms but some of my friends have and really liked it. It's a great way to meet a lot of people fast. It's close to all classes and the dinning halls are great. I highly suggest for your first few years at UNL to stay in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be hard and you have to put effort into them to get the grade you want. But the grading is fair and it is very possible to get good grades if you put in the effort and study.

    Tips for prospective students

Walk around campus and the union and get the feel of the college. Talk with advisers before coming

    In three sentences

UNL is a beautiful campus, friendly atmosphere, and full of pride. The academics are respected and has a wide variety of classes to choose from. Overall, UNL is a great academic school, full of clubs and activities, and a safe and diverse campus.

UNL PD does an outstanding job of patrolling the campus in the day and night. There are always tons of people out and about on campus which makes me feel secure. Also, the campus has its distinct boundaries and borders. There are emergency stations scattered around campus that UNL PD will respond to if needed. There are also Community Service Officers that patrol the dorms every night and are there for added security and comfort.

    Clubs and Activities

    SO MANY OPTIONS!!!

Great for these types of students

Those looking for a big time school with a small town feel, or sports fans! GO BIG RED!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Join the Scarlet Guard and learn all about the traditions and secret locations on campus! If you complete all the tasks in the Scarlet Guard handbook you will receive a medallion at graduation!

    What to do for fun

All UNL sponsored activities! The list is endless, but the school provides tons of opportunities to get involved and have fun. Attend all sporting events, too! The Huskers are huge in Lincoln and all sporting events are a big deal. There are shopping malls, restaurants, and the Historic Downtown Haymarket to explore in your free time. The Downtown Haymarket is nice and has a small town feel - tons of restaurants, shops, and the brand new Pinnacle Bank Arena. There are always concerts and shows to attend between the PBA and the Pershing Center. Lincoln has lots of bowling alleys, miniature golf, laser tag, etc. as well as movie theaters that offer student discounts.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall food is above average. My only critique would be it does get slightly redundant, and when you are at school for nine months out of the year, you get to the point where you may have the menus memorized. However, because there are multiple dining halls on campus, you are able to pick and choose the specialty days that are offered that you like the best or you have the option to choose another dining hall if you don't like what the others are serving. The options and variety are very nice! All of the dining halls have a different feel: some are very modern and updated while others are old fashioned and home-y, but I thought my experience with the dining halls, food and dining staff was above average.

    Dorm Life

I LOVED living on campus in the dorms. My RA was friendly and helpful, my randomly assigned roommate was awesome to live with, and the atmosphere on my floor was one of friendship and comfort. We were able to study and do homework together, have movie and game nights, and interact with people from different parts of the country and world. I would recommend living on campus to anyone because of the friendships I created and the connections I made to assist me with future opportunities. Nebraska does an outstanding job of creating a welcoming and comfortable living environment that will benefit the student in their academics as well as personal life.

    Academic Rigor

Grades are to be earned in college. Not to say it is impossible to maintain your high school GPA of 4.0 or make the Dean's List, but it certainly takes effort. The professors are there to teach you as much about their subject field as possible - they are not their to waste their time, your time, or your money. Again, they will afford you the challenging opportunities and it is your job to meet these challenges and walk away benefitting because of the efforts you put into your schoolwork. I took multiple Advanced Placement classes in high school as well as graduated with highest honors, and the rigor of the classes I took my freshman year at Nebraska met or exceeded my expectations. They are tough but manageable and you will learn lots!

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! My advisor uses the analogy of a nice hotel room and a park bench: you are paying for a quality education with great opportunities, a.k.a. the nice hotel room. If you don't take advantage of all of the opportunities allowed by the university, you might as well be sleeping on an uncomfortable park bench while paying for the four-star hotel room. UNL is home to an outstanding number of clubs, organizations, and pre-professional programs to help you get more involved in your field of study or something you are passionate about. Not only is it key to get involved with clubs and organizations, go to sporting events, plays, debates, etc. There are three types of people in college - those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened. Don't be in that third group - put yourself out there, be uncomfortable and take risks! The rewards are dhuge and will last you a lifetime!!

    In three sentences

I would recommend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to anyone; the high profile athletics and rigorous academic courses mesh nicely with the moderate sized town of Lincoln. The campus has a big school feel with midwestern values, and is conveniently laid out and accessible to both students and Husker fans. Because Nebraska is such a rural and farming community, it is great to attend a school that is the number one passion of those who live in Nebraska yet the school is diverse and accounts for all walks of life.

    Tips for prospective students

Find other students in your area of study and form study groups.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love it at this school, the people are great the atmosphere is unbelievable and the academics are tough and competitive. The only down side is the weather is not exactly favorable for most of the year. But overall this school is amazing.

    Campus Safety

I think I felt pretty safe here. I have yet to encounter anything that I felt threatened my safety. I just wish there were more lights for when I'm walking back late from classes!

    Greek Life

Omg don't get me started.... I live right near Greek row and the noise is ridiculous.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs but good luck getting in touch with them!

Great for these types of students

Great for students from Nebraska, graduates, and students over 21.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Go to architecture hall for Halloween!

    Bang for the buck

I wish the tuition was lower but apparently we have the lowest tuition in the Big 10.

    What to do for fun

If you are over 21 then there are bars for you to go to on O St. If you are underage good luck finding stuff to do. Before 21 I just hung out in friends dorms.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. We do have a wide array of farms in the vicinity after all! The food does get boring after a while though due to the repetitiveness of it.

    Dorm Life

The dorm atmosphere is great. It is a bit segregated in that they put international students in certain dorms for the vacation housing and freshman domestic students are place in Abel, Harper, Schramm, and Smith.

    Academic Rigor

I think the academics are pretty rigorous. Prepare yourself because it is not like high school. You may think that having so much free time in between classes is great but you will be using it to do homework.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for financial aid very early. I suggest applying before april or as soon as it opens up to assure that you will receive ample support! Good luck!

    In three sentences

Nebraska is a great place to study. If you like large schools with a great atmosphere then it is a good fit for you. Just be wary of the financial aid office because they give many students a lot of difficulties!

    Campus Safety

Campus is pretty safe. An N-Card is needed to get into the dorms which is helpful because it wards off anyone who is not supposed to be there.

    Greek Life

There is an extensive Greek house system with the right house for the right individual.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities are varied. I often see a juggling club twice a week in the middle of the Union Green Space.

Great for these types of students

UNL is great for the student who wants to get involved in everything. It is equally great for students who are shy and are looking to get their foot in the door.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UNL's Memorial Stadium turns into the most populated area in the state of Nebraska on Game days. Game days are a huge tradition.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of intramural sports that are available to students. In addition, the rec center offers great ways to get active and have fun. The campus is located in the heart of downtown Lincoln so there is plenty of fun to be had by all who are age appropriate.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining improves every year. The kitchen staff works exceptionally hard to provide good food with plenty of variety for the students. There are also themed food events that take place in the dining halls every so often. For example, on Mexican Independence day, there was a full authentic Mexican meal complete with enchiladas and tres leche cake.

    Dorm Life

I would rate dorm life a 4 out of 5. It is especially higher when students are freshmen and sophomores. However, as people become juniors and seniors, they venture out to find an apartment or a house away from campus.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is based upon the classes that an individual takes and their level of interest and hard work in the class. Some classes are easier than others. However, the higher level classes are designed to be challenging, even to the smartest of students. I would give UNL a 4 out of 5 when it comes to academic rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a prospective student, I would recommend that you think about about studying abroad. UNL has a great partnership with many Study Abroad programs and I would suggest that you take advantage of that opportunity.

    In three sentences

I would give UNL a 7 out of 10. It is a great college with great academic scholars and a love for everything Football.
