Great for these types of students

Great for academically oriented students; that is, students looking to go into research or professional fields. The music department is also very well put together and staffed (known from personal experience). And finally, the school is great for students who wish to participate in sports as UNLV is pretty well known for sports, especially basketball.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to think as you learn; that is, don't come to UNLV expecting to have to just sit down and take notes on powerpoint presentations as the professor simply reads off each item on the list and then sends you on your way after an hour and fifteen happens to go by. UNLV courses tend to favor critical thinking; that is, one must actually think and make connections about what's being taught. Notes are still important, but you'll be taking notes on the professors' explanations just as much as anything else. Thus, being able to type dictation is very helpful.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, UNLV gives you a lot of benefits for the cost. It's not as cheap as some other schools out there, but sometimes one gets what one pays for. Unfortunately, with the recent budget cuts prices have risen, and it can certainly be felt as each dollar you pay gets you less distance in your strides towards paying tuition. Even with the increases though, I found the tuition cost to be manageable. Textbooks are a bit of a different story. The UNLV bookstore charges quite a lot, so it would probably be a good idea to buy your textbooks at a different store online. Unfortunately, however, many UNLV courses use custom editions of certain books with content additions and removals, which can be hard to find. Therefore in those cases you need to either get lucky on eBay or, sadly, pay full price at the bookstore.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy my time at UNLV. The campus is well-organized. But one of the things I really appreciate which others may take for granted, is the presence of the many plants and trees throughout the campus. In my own opinion, they serve two purposes. First, they serve to keep students cool in the shade; that's very important as Las Vegas is well known for its burning heat (which was a consideration for me when deciding whether to attend UNLV, though not a large enough consideration to keep me from deciding to study there). Next, they serve to remove the visual blandness that saps students' energy as they walk the pathways at many other colleges out there. In addition to all of that, courses are intriguing and stimulating, so I'm generally always looking forward to the next day of school.

    Am learning a lot

The classes offer an incredible amount of insight and new information. Classes tend to start off a little slow in my experience, but when they did get going they got going quickly and I learned a lot in short amounts of time. In addition, classes don't have lazy setups; that is, professors go into detail on each subject and don't simply list things for you to write down and memorize for the exams. Instead, they will actually take the time to explain and talk about each bit of content that comes up. Most professors also dedicate specific periods of class just for discussion about either the current or previous day's content. This allows for better material retention, especially after a semester ends when many students tend to forget things that during the semester they had only memorized.

    Tips for prospective students

The Fine Arts College is extremely underfunded and is basically ignored by the administration. Most classes are taught by student instructors who don't know how to teach or understand the subjects well enough to teach. This college lacks in current technologies, programs and equipment.

Great for these types of students

UNLV is known for being mostly a business school, specializing in hotel administration. After all, there are thousands of hotels in Las Vegas, this would be the best place to learn about hotel management. However, UNLV does have good programs in the health sciences college, education college and sciences college.

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV is a really good school. There are great teachers, some may be graduate students so they know what you are going through and may be even more helpful than professors. I would recommend this school to anyone.

    Bang for the buck

I know a lot of people who went out of state for schools, and if you are a in state student, going to UNLV should be your number one choice. There are a variety of students from all over the country and even some students from other countries. For out of state students, I know that out of other colleges, UNLV has the best tuition rates by far. Though there have been a few budget cuts as a result of the current economy.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many events, football games, Greek life, clubs and programs you can be involved in at UNLV. At the beginning of each semester UNLV holds a community fair for a week, where different organizations, clubs, fraternities and sororities set up tables inviting students to join. Everyone is very welcoming and when you find a club that's perfect for you, your experience at UNLV will increase as well. There may be different views on fraternity and sorority life, but its not what most people think. There are parties but they also hold charity events, do volunteer work, and have little competitions against each other. Joining a fraternities or sororities will help you make connections with people, can help you get a job, and even get guidance from graduate students. At UNLV, I would say I've had a blast here. From joining various clubs, going to football games and meeting new people. It's a very friendly environment, I guarantee you'll have a great college experience. Don't let not being 21 bring you down, there are more things to do here.

    Am learning a lot

Everyone knows college isn't gonna be easy, its a challenge. There are going to be teachers that only go over the general information in the lecture, leaving it up to you to learn the concepts through the book. But reading the book is required in all classes. There will also be teachers that go more in depth in the lectures, giving you a full understanding of the material before you study on your own. But all courses will offer a study group or tutoring, which is helpful when you don't get anything. Some teachers may have really thick accents, but that will just be another obstacle to overcome. So before you decide on your schedule, I recommend you look up the professor on ratemyprofessor.com, the reviews are usually straight on. Overall, you will learn a lot here, but you're going to have to put the time and effort in.

Outgoing and friendly people will do very well! People who are capable of going out and having a good time, occasionally till the wee hours of the morning, and still having the drive to study hard and get good grades will have a great time! That is not to say that if you are shy you are not compatible with UNLV!! In fact, quite the opposite! Shy personalities have the opportunity to really thrive! Go in with a positive attitude, go to the games, get involved and have a good time! If you develop an appreciation for your school, you will want to do well academically because you'll want to continue to attend!

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV is whatever you make it. If you want to create those fun memories that you always hear alumni talk about, you have to make it happen for yourself. Get involved, whether it be through sororities or fraternities, clubs, or performing arts or sports. If you spend it just doing your academics, (which is how I spent a good portion of my first semester) you will find that college isn't really as fun as you may have expected.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is quite reasonable, at least compared to some of the other schools I was contemplating. I've enjoyed nearly all of my classes this past semester, and I am looking forward to my upcoming semester as well. The textbooks are quite expensive, so my suggestion to any newcomers is to wait before purchasing books, because some classes don't actually ever require the readings. In fact, my most expensive book, (that retailed for $200!) was one that I didn't even use! Luckily I rented it for the more affordable $70, but it would have been nice to have saved the money if I had known prior to!

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is spacious, and the people are friendly! There are always events and things for you to do before, in between and after classes. The weather is generally lovely in Las Vegas, and I have taken a liking to sitting and studying in the numerous fields around campus. The fresh air and the warm sun really allow me to relax and focus on what ever I am studying for.

    Am learning a lot

UNLV is full of intelligent professors who are eager to teach to those than are eager to learn. However, what I have noticed is many classes base their tests on assigned readings, and that actual lectures in class are meant to reinforce the material, rather than initially teach you. This was difficult to adjust to at first, but now that I know what to expect, my future semesters will be much better.

Great for these types of students

UNLV is mainly a commuter school with a larger population from the Las Vegas area but its not limited to local kids. Future Law students may look into UNLV and the rising Boyd School of Law. As mentioned students looking into Hotel Management I definitely recommend UNLV's world renowned program. The history department is also currently rising up and is developing a close association with the Brookings Institute, a Washington think tank. The Business school is AACSB accredited and it is also one of the only schools in the world thats has a dual accreditation for the college and specialized fields of accounting.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack off too much. I mean, it is college and with a lower quantity but higher quality of assignments its easy to forget and get wrapped up in other things besides school. The city has a lot to offer as means of entertainment and the campus has just as much to offer in helping you through your courses.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount I'm learning and the amount I'm paying I do think I'm getting the bang for my buck. With a great base of professors and so many on campus facilities to help succeed (counselors, tutoring, writing center) I feel that my tuition is not being wasted.

    Am enjoying being here

UNLV takes alot of flack from local high school students because everyone wants the college experience, but this school has pleasantly surprised me. Besides the inevitable budgets cuts that a down economy has put upon the school, the programs here are pretty good. The Law school is 78th in the nation and the Hotel Administration program is one of the best in the world. The city itself is a great place to live. Besides the nightlife (when you turn 21), Runnin Rebel Basketball and other sports are always fun to go see, as well as the plethora of concert venues that are just down the street.

    Am learning a lot

The professors I have taken really have a passion for what they teach. Of course you'll run into the professors the student body isn't fond of but thats a given at any campus. My experience with student teachers has also been a good one. The student teachers really relate to the students and also strive to be successful with their teaching.

Hard work is required at UNLV. Most professors assign a lot of homework, so you need to have your priorities straight & stay focused in order to succeed. The Lied library is a great place to go in order to study. It's usually pretty busy, so I would advise finding your own quiet spot within the library in order to concentrate.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you enroll on myUNLV as soon as possible. Otherwise, you'll end up on a wait list for a class which you really need. Also, make sure you take placement tests for subjects in which they are available, or else you will end up in a class that is too easy or too hard for you.

    Bang for the buck

UNLV is not the cheapest school around, but I think that for it's price, you get a lot. As I said before, the staff is very helpful & cooperative. Everyone at UNLV is willing to help you with whatever you need. As an in-state student not living on campus, I think my tuition rates are great. Out-of-state is pretty expensive, but that's how it is a most universities. UNLV is worth the expense & I am sure that I will be glad I decided to go here.

    Will enjoy being here

I have been to the campus several times for appointment & such. The students were all very nice, as I had to stop & ask for directions several times. The staff was very helpful & cooperative. The campus itself is beautiful, & the student union is awesome, as is the library.

    Will learn a lot

I am already enrolled at UNLV to begin my first semester in the Spring of 2011. I have many friends who attended UNLV for the Fall semester & from what I have heard, the classes are packed full of learning experiences. They require much work, focus & concentration. The professors are very knowledgeable on the subjects which they teach, & they are willing help if you get lost. Overall, students at UNLV undoubtedly learn a lot in their time spent at the university.

If you're in the Fine Arts college, be patient with the campus, you will soon get to do what you want; but be patient because this is a growing Fine Arts department. My advice is to save up your money as much as you can so that you may buy your own equipment because most of the equipment provided by the school is only for school work. If you want to independently do your work, have your own equipment.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get so wrapped up on being 21 in Las Vegas. Take your time and enjoy yourself while you're still under 21. Have fun and stay out of trouble.

    Am enjoying being here

Not much to do in Las Vegas unless you are 21 and have money and a car!

    Am learning a lot

Just meeting new people and getting to know a different world is a huge learning experience. The curriculum of my classes are really challenging.

Great for these types of students

UNLV is wonderful for students who plan on going into the hotel business. They have a whole major set aside for just that. If the hotel industry interests you, it is perfect.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose a well-funded major, if you don't you stand the chance of getting second-rate everything for the same tuition as those who chose a well-funded one.

    Bang for the buck

It would be much worse if I were an out-of-state student. The education is not worth the tuition. Especially with all the budget cuts.

    Am enjoying being here

I was born and raised in this city. I want to get out of here. Going to UNLV because the economy is below rock bottom is the worst possible reason to be at a school.

    Am learning a lot

The professors live in a city where the economy is more important. They try, but it is not as personal as some other public universities

Great for these types of students

UNLV is great for all types of students, jocks, international students, etc. Diversity is definitely shown on campus, there are all types of students attending this university. Like any other place, some departments do have more funding then others but everyone just has to work with what they are offered.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest insight tip that I have for prospective students is to become involved on campus. That is the key to having an enjoyable college experience. As far as academics go, form study sessions and use all of the resources the Academic Success Center on campus offers. Professors are also there to help, although they may seem intimidating at times, they're probably the best resource you can have. Stay on top of your game and you'll be fine.

    Bang for the buck

The price of the university is extremely efficient, especially if you are an in-state student. Not only does the Millenium Scholarship cover a good portion of tuition, but if you add that with other scholarships you can go without paying out of pocket. Students do get their money's worth and in my opinion more because of these price benefits.

    Am enjoying being here

UNLV is very practical and has provided me with the proper learning experience. It has also enabled me to keep a well functioning job at the university. The only criticism that I do have to say on this topic is that because many do not live on campus, many are not as involved with campus events. I for one would like to become more involved with on-campus activities, such as clubs or other organizations. You have to make your college experience what you want it to be.

    Am learning a lot

The learning experience is quite beneficial, even though many would think being an in-state student doesn't give anyone an advantage. I would have to disagree with many who think that way. I can say that my entrance into UNLV was a pleasant surprise because I have learned more than what I initially expected. The professors have all been extremely motivated to teach and provide an enjoyable learning environment. So far as a sophomore at UNLV I am quite pleased with the learning that I have experienced thus far.

Great for these types of students

I would say this school is great for business and hospitality students... not so much for fine arts students.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs! Clubs are always the best way to meet people and create new friendships. Despite the fact that UNLV does not have a lot of tradition... you can still make the best of it by finding opportunities to meet new people and enrich your experience here.

    Bang for the buck

UNLV is definitely a bang for the buck especially when you have the Millennium Scholarship along with other financial aid. I have not paid for one cent for UNLV and have gained so much.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at UNLV, but the reason why is because I involve myself with the clubs that are offered here. Otherwise, it is very difficult to network and find people to meet and create new friendships with.

    Am learning a lot

As a film major--no I have not learned a lot. I have taken 7 film classes and only one of them was not focused around lectures. In my general education classes though, I am learning quite a lot of new things, but this also comes along with which teacher you have and how good they are. For that, I usually take recommendations from my friends or look at ratemyprofessors.com

Great for these types of students

As someone who has family in Las Vegas and works full time, this is a commuter school. If you are comfortable with the commute, this is a good place for you. If you are looking for the college experience this might not be ideal. The dorm life is less than ideal and there simply isn't the school spirit or unity that most think of when they dream of going off to college.

    Tips for prospective students

My number one tip would be to know what you want. As you explore, try to keep a goal in mind. With the difficulties UNLV faces it is very easy to drag on your college experience and get stuck. If you have a plan, stay organized, and seek the most out of your years in college, you will succeed.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition continues to increase, and sadly the quality of our education continues to decrease due to the lack of funding. Our quality of professors declines every year and so do our opportunities for scholarships and grants.

    Am enjoying being here

Obviously this is a personal opinion. I am thankful with where I am at and for the opportunity to receive higher education, but I very much would enjoy attending a different university with more funding and more opportunities.

    Am learning a lot

UNLV is a school that has a lot to offer, but sadly because of how underfunded it is, the actual learning that takes place is going to depend on the student and how much you want to succeed. I have learned a great deal due to my own desire to learn, but the classes themselves will not provide you with the necessary tools to learn.

Great for these types of students

For students who want that in between. Where you can have small classes but also larger ones if wanted. Where the campus isn't small, but isn't to overwhelmingly large either. You can be apart of clubs and events, but you don't feel ostracized if you aren't. It's for students who don't want to pay a ridiculously amount of money for a good school that offers a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

The thing I recommend most is being involved, but that would apply for any where you go. Take part in class and make friends. Having a friend in your class is helpful for when you miss a class or need someone to study with or get help with homework. Take part in events on campus. If you don't want to be in a club, there are always things you can attend. Also, make use of the gym! It's already paid for in your tuition. The gym practically has everything and they also offer a variety of classes to take.

    Bang for the buck

For those students who are already living in the Las Vegas area UNLV is worth the price tag (And it is for those who aren't in the area). It is a bit more expensive than CSN or Nevada State but at the same time you are getting more out of UNLV. With a larger campus, faculty, classes, students, and social events. The cost is cut down by a lot if you are planning to not live on campus, which if you are looking to go out of state will dramatically increase how much you are paying. When it comes to the text books you can usually get by with finding used textbooks online. I've gotten by with borrowing books from friends who have already taken the class. And you can always find people who are looking to sell theirs for cheap.

    Am enjoying being here

To be honest I wasn't expecting that much from going to UNLV. I thought I was just going to get my degree and to be done with it. Though, it ended up being something completely different. The campus seems to always have something to do between classes. From lying out on the grassy areas, sitting in the WHI building where there is this little waterfall, hanging out in the SU, or at the coffee bean. If you are wanting to get off campus there is the strip near by. As for activities on campus there a lot of clubs to get involved with and if you aren't looking to join a club, there are always events going on. Two of which I absolutely loved where Take Back the Night and Homelessness Week.

    Am learning a lot

I learned more than I expected I would in my first year at UNLV. Not just from the courses I took but also the events held on campus. The Professors all were enthusiastic about the subjects they taught and applied what they were teaching to everyday life. They are willing to talk one-on-one after class and help you out when needed. The classes vary in size, which was nice for the different types of learning environments. The events on campus are what pushed the envelope for my learning. Many of the ones I attended raised awareness for Homelessness, Racial Minorities, Women’s rights, Gay rights, Disabled, and other minorities.

UNLV is great for students who want to have some fun along with getting a degree. You defiantly have to be motivated and really interested in your major because you are going to have to take a lot of classes. if you like basketball then come here, our teams are really great, the last time I checked our Men's Basketball team was nationally ranked 20th in the nation. The University’s Hotel College I ranked number one in the country and the city of Las Vegas is an amazing place to study Architecture so if you're a student interrested in those areas then check out the school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you were ever the big fish in a little pond, involved in tons of clubs and activities, get ready for a huge change. This school has 28,000 students, don't burn out then flunk out. This college runs on the semester system but the semester is gone in a blink, one minute it’s your fist day and the next its tome for midterms and then finals. If you plan on coming here try not to get caught up in the party mentality, remember that you are here for school and not to party in sin city. Make sure to check out the campus and see if you like it here, its the desert so it gets hotter then hot and colder then cold.

    Bang for the buck

This school is rather expensive if you are out-of-state student. This semester I am paying over $13,000 for 13 credits but the different colleges at UNLV offer a range of scholarships. I would really look into the Good Neighbor Policy and Western Undergraduate Exchange if you are from CA, or any other state next to Nevada. Even though I am paying $33,000 a year to attend UNLV I feel like I'm getting my money's worth, it all depends on your major, and UNLV is great for Hotel and those studying some form of architecture. There are a lot of classes required for some majors, some of the students’ even joke that UNLV stands for U Never Leave Vegas.

    Am enjoying being here

I really like being at UNLV. The dorms are nice, some a little nicer than others, I live in the Dayton Complex which is the newest. You can find a wide range of housing types we have international housing, Honors College, major orientated, 21 and over, and an all women's floor. There are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved on campus and in the community. Every semester they have a time when the campuses clubs set up tables for students to see what the campus has to offer. There are movie nights, rebel after dark events (its games, food, crafts, and sometimes there are performers), and open mic nights at a coffee shop across the street. Las Vegas caters to people 21 and older but if you not 21 there are still a lot of things to do.

    Am learning a lot

I'm a first year architecture student in the college of fine arts. I have only been attending classes for a semester but I like it. The professors I've had wanted to see their students succeed and we were always encouraged to talk with them on a one on one basis. The Graduate Assistants that I had were really nice and dedicated to helping the students pass the class.

Great for these types of students

I would say it is great for any type of student that is looking for a diverse campus. Also for those of you who love exercising for it is a pretty big campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to ask questions. The people at UNLV are there to help. Remember we were not born knowing everything so ask questions. Also give yourself sometime to explore the campus, whether it is during you lunch time or after your day is done. It is good to explore and learn about your surroundings and the opportunities the campus has to offer.

    Bang for the buck

There are scholarship opportunities here at UNLV. Though I am not the indicated to well inform you on them, since I am still learning about my these opportunities UNLV offers. Though if you wish more information feel free to visit our website unlv.edu

    Am enjoying being here

I am a resident of Las Vegas,Nevada and I know it is a desert out here. However when you are at UNLV you can escape a bit from that desert environment one is used to being surrounded. What I mean with escape from it a bit, is that as there are trees and grassy areas at the campus there are also desert landscapes. I am also amazed at the things we have here like our gym, student union, free museum and many other things you can go or do here. UNLV as many opportunities just look for them and you will find them.

    Am learning a lot

This is my first year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Just took four classes this semester and phewww learned a lot. UNLV has many subjects to pick from and extracurricular activities too. I am a person that likes to stay well informed and I still have to learn many things. Do not worry though there are people that can help you,it is just all up to you to make an effort and look and listen to them.

Great for students who are outgoing and looking to enjoy college without being overwhelmed. Party people and scholars alike will find their future at UNLV.

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV is a great place for students to work their way into the college experience. With money being tight, its an inexpensive way to get a good education. Definitely apply for scholarships and find out more about your major because there's so much to do and so many opportunities that you'll want to take more classes than you need.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to going out of state for college, UNLV is amazing for how much you pay. Studies even show that the in-state tuition here at UNLV is less than what other people pay to go to colleges in other states. For all that you are able to get at UNLV - the library, the rec center, all of the people and opportunities available - the cost is really inexpensive. If you're short on cash and looking to make the most of it, UNLV is the place for you.

It may not be far from home, but this place is definitely fun. UNLV has a great location for doing things off campus, and the activities on campus are great if you're willing to get to know people and get involved. Aside from fraternities and sororities, the different clubs that you can join really spice things up and get you both involved and having fun. Meet a few people here on campus and join a few clubs and you'll definitely make the most of your college experience.

    Am learning a lot

All of the things that are being taught here are definitely new to me, and the teachers are really well versed in their fields. They being a lot to the table when they teach, and if you pay attention you can learn way more than what the textbooks can teach. Definitely a great place to expand your horizons and learn a thing or two while continuing your education.

    Tips for prospective students

Greatest tip is to just stay organized. Keep all papers, notes, worksheets, everything possible to help study off of when midterms and finals come around. Use resources that are available at the campus: tutor buildings, the library, and computer labs. Do not be afraid to have an individual meeting with your instructor. They are more than willing to help in any area of that subject that one may be struggling in. It may seem intimidating at first, but it will be worth it in the end. Keep track of due dates, exam dates, and manage time wisely for better results.

    Bang for the buck

UNLV is certainly not cheap, but their prices are reasonable for what a student signs up for.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment at UNLV is quite enjoyable. There are numerous events that occur throughout the campus every week. With these events, they give the opportunity to experience what is available on campus, and sometimes even let students step out of reality to relieve a little stress, such as playing games for prizes. UNLV also respects their students' academic careers and provide more than one place for students to study and do work, along with the technology if needed.

    Am learning a lot

All colleges are similar in the way that they are a challenge. UNLV is no exception when wanting to learn as much as possible. There are many instructors who are very intelligent when it comes to their field. Some are a little more expectant of the students to do more academic activity outside the classroom rather than the class itself. However, they are very willing to help when a student is in need, but the student must put the effort in meeting with their instructor as well to get the extra help. One can learn in numerous ways rather than just sitting and reading straight from the textbook, if that is not the preferred way to learn. Instructors may also have slides, interactive activities, and the campus also holds tutoring for some subjects. Meeting new people in the class can also give the opportunity to create study groups.

Great for these types of students

As I said, it is good for local students, who have Millennium, and who only care about a degree, not about quality of education.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose another school. Seriously though, the big thing you have to know if you are coming here is don't wait. I don't mean don't wait to come here, I mean don't wait for anything. Register for classes ASAP. Straighten out financial aid ASAP. Make sure your admission documents are in order ASAP. Everything should be done an ungodly amount of time before it needs to be, because this school has a tendency to be... not so good with paperwork.

    Bang for the buck

Here is UNLV's shining area. It is cheap. No, it is dirt cheap. That is, if you went to high school in Las Vegas. If you are an out of state student, avoid this school like the plague. However, if you go to a Las Vegas high school and qualify for the Guinn Millennium Scholarship, you will pay only 1500-2500 dollars per semester, which is far below average. In other words, if you are local, have that scholarship, and only care about getting a degree so you can go to grad school, this is the place. But don't expect to have a exceptional learning environment.

    Did enjoy being here

I hated UNLV with a passion. Generally, I don't find that the major problem with an institution is the support staff, but it is here. The professors need work, but there are some great classes. However, the support staff is by far the worst of any school I have heard of. For example, there are 3-4 counselors that work in the financial aid office at a time. The problem is that there are 30,000 students. There simply are not enough people working in these offices to help the number of students at the school. I also found that the ones that are working there, often know very little about UNLV policies. I spent 6 months trying to get my graduation application to go through because I was the only one that actually knew the policies regarding transfer students.

    Did learn a lot

UNLV was reminiscent of a high school math course. You go through the motions of learning, but most of the professors just don't understand what it necessary to truly teach the material. Generally, you will have a million slide shows that are vague, and either completely restate what is in the textbook word for word or contradict the textbook to the point that you don't know what will be tested. I have even had a professor consistently contradict a textbook that he wrote himself. In other words, if your goal in college is to get a degree, this school is fine. If your goal in college is to learn, choose another school.

    Campus Safety

There's emergency call boxes everywhere on campus and cops that still ride horses. The police are constantly staying in touch with students through email, keeping them updated and aware. The campus is almost always busy, but there are those areas deep into the campus that should be avoided at night because there are no lights and drunk bums tend to sneak onto campus, but are almost always caught.

    Greek Life

Sororities and fraternities hold many events throughout the academic school year. They are always taking up room in front of the Student Union with their big booths and signs. I've personally never attended and avoided them at all costs because it gets pretty busy.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many opportunities to join clubs and activities all over the campus. There's a club for everybody! Whether it's your scholarly merit or your heritage, there is a place you will enjoy yourself and feel welcomed. The SWRC (Student Wellness & Recreation Center) has many trips out to Red Rock and nearby locations for various outdoor activities. Most of them cost money, but there are quite a few free classes that are held at the SWRC like cycling, yoga, etc.

Great for these types of students

Las Vegas is extremely diverse and there is always something for everyone. Clubs, activities, sports, and events are all made to fit to your needs and interests.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's a garden between the WRI building and the Marjorie Barrick Museum. It's beautiful, but if you're allergic to pollen or bees, I suggest you avoid this area at all costs. Traditions include annual events and sports! UNLV always keeps you updated somehow so you won't ever miss out.

    Bang for the buck

Never buy anything on campus! There's always online and stores all over Vegas to get a better deal. But definitely take advantage of the free stuff they give you at their free events.

    What to do for fun

Two words: the Strip. No, I'm kidding. There's so many options for fun. UNLV holds free events for students like Rebel's After Dark, Movies that Matter, gallery openings, job fairs, and more. There's activities and classes at the Student Wellness & Recreation Center and there are clubs you can join as well. Just walking around is pretty fun because the architecture is amazing.

    Food and Dining

There are so many places to choose from along Maryland Parkway. There's a mall nearby and so many plazas filled with so many different kinds of restaurants. Authentic Mexican, Japanese, Korean, and Greek are just to name a few!

    Dorm Life

From what I can see, the dorm life is up to par. I haven't heard a single bad thing about it. Even friends who are born and raised here took a year out of their free rent at their parents house to living in the dorms. I'm guessing it was the food?

    Academic Rigor

UNLV brings in a diversity of professors with all different kinds of backgrounds. Professors have been immersed into their field and provide exceptional knowledge from their experiences. Those particular kinds of professors will challenge you to do your best.

    Tips for prospective students

When choosing professors, go for the elder ones. I don't mean any offense or am discriminating. I just found it more challenging from professors who have more experience in their field. TA's (teaching assistants) are students getting their master's so they have their academic life to worry about as well. Also, take advantage of all the free events they hold because they almost always give out free stuff too. The campus is pretty huge so you should always have someone with you as well, especially during the night. And always get to class early if you're parking! The parking garage will always fill up within 15-20 minutes of class starting. It saved me from being late and always getting the seat I wanted in class!

    In three sentences

I have a love-hate relationship with UNLV as I pretty much do with anything. The good definitely outweighs the bad though. It's virtually impossible to sum up my experience at UNLV in only three sentences!

    JUST ENROLL TO THIS COLLEGE.

    Bang for the buck

This college is not among the best but great choice for those who look for inexpensive education in a good college.

    Am enjoying being here

That for sure. UNLV is one of the cheapest colleges for in state students in country. UNLV situated among best 190-220 colleges in the US according to U.S. News which is not that bad for a public college. UNLV has great building complex. I graduated from high school in Boston and saw many colleges in that ares including Harvard and MIT, but UNLV building complex is the best. Here you'll find great gym voted as the best gym in Las Vegas in 2010. College stuff care about students. You will see that they on your side and sincerely try to help you.

    Am learning a lot

It is difficult to predict how difficult will be classes at UNLV. Some classes are tougher and others are easier then you may expect. For instance, ESL class I took was tough because teachers drilling materials and give bunch of home work assignments. ENG101E and F are easy, you'll be required to write only 2 essays for each of those classes.

Hospitality, Hotel Management, Food and Beverage programs

    Tips for prospective students

Disciple, no matter what you do, you shouldn't just skate through. Make an honest effort to improve yourself as an intellectual person, rather than simply looking for a means to an end.

    Bang for the buck

As for Traditional Colleges in Las Vegas go; It's probably the best considering its the only one that isn't specifically oriented towards a certain trade, aside from Hospitality. Although it has gotten a little pricier to attend with a full-time credit list.

    Am enjoying being here

The instructors are generally polite and knowledgeable about their subjects (so long as the class is not short staffed and the instructor ends up being a student themselves). Students can be often friendly but you have to make a effort to find some study-buddies

    Am learning a lot

College is what you make of it, Indeed if you are committed to study no matter where you go you will learn a lot, just don't expect UNLV to twist your arm or give you a handout without effort. As a foreign language and liberal arts student there isn't as much offered when compared to Hotel Management or Hospitality, but there is some programs out there if you take the time to ask around.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly encourage prospective students to apply for the Honors College, a college within the college. You can find out more about it at UNLV's website. Also, students who do enroll at UNLV should look out for the Financial Aid office. They are almost impossible to get a hold of and scholarships may take FOREVER to process.

    Bang for the buck

I do not live on campus, so all I have to pay for is tuition. It is fairly cheap and manageable. Payment plans are available!

    Am enjoying being here

To be honest, this was my last choice on my list. However, you have to make the most of your college experience. If you are a Las Vegas resident who is unable to go out of state for college, try UNLV and try to make it an enjoyable experience for yourself. It wouldn't hurt to try!

    Am learning a lot

Of course, depending on the professors you have and the courses you take, you will get an enjoyable and enriching experience at UNLV. I have taken summer courses at UNLV and I will be an incoming freshman this fall. My teachers for those courses were, for the most part, very helpful and knowledgeable.

Business majors and Hospitality majors are guaranteed to have more experience related to their careers than any other student just because they are located near the infamous area in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Strip. They have more job opportunities and connections that awaits for these students while they are taking classes at the school or even after when they graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

University of Nevada, Las Vegas can be the perfect university for you depending on what you want to gain out of your college experiences. From academics, friends, and connection, UNLV can be the second home you need and want. A tip to any prospective student is to take a visit down to the university and breathe in the numerous memories you will be making if/when you start attending there.

I must say, there are certain fees that I still don't understand because the prices are so high. The cost of the book needed for a certain class is painful to see.

    Am learning a lot

The professors on campus really have changed my life in one way or another. Each professor had their arms opened out for any guidance and advice that I may need. The lessons taught at the University are very balanced, interesting, and worth taking.

    Campus Safety

i feel super safe on campus. there are call boxes everywhere and they email you security alerts to let you know what is happening on campus.

Great for these types of students

theatre kids unite! unlv has a great theatre program and is really helpful at teaching in a safe environment. theatre students are required to go to the shows and may even get to work them but you form great connections that will last a lifetime.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

i don't know any unusual traditions, but i do know of an unusual location. i like to call it the echo circle. there is a place near the science buildings on a less occupied part of campus, where if you stand directly in the center of the circle and speak it echos back. the first time i tried this it was very eerie. it was later pointed out to me that the reason the voice echos is because it is hollow under the benches. regardless of how it works it's a great place to practice speeches or just mess around with friends.

    Bang for the buck

though i love our bookstore, they are way overpriced. a tank top that has unlv stamped on it costs about 25 dollars. luckily their is a target less than a block away from campus that sells rebel gear for half of that. (wal-mart is a great place to look as well) as for books research your options before you purchase. i spent about 200 dollars on my french books for fren 113 and another girl only spent 13 cents for her main book. trust me when i say learn to shop around!

    What to do for fun

go to school events. students get free tickets to home games and are encouraged to go at least once. the su is a great place to meet up with friends. there is always something going on in the theatre department. students only have to pay 11 dollars to go to the shows.

    Food and Dining

unlv has a ton of food opportunities to offer. the student union, or su, offers many dining options and is similar to a food court at the mall but less sketchy. the dining commons, or dc, costs about eight bucks to get in and is an all you can eat buffet where you can order food hot off the grill. unlv has two einstein's bagels on campus, one in the gym and one in the engineering building. they also have many food choices across the street from campus that include, chipotle, pita pit, porta subs, mcdonalds, jack in the box, del taco, cafe rio, paymon's, and more. needless to say you will not starve at unlv.

    Dorm Life

unfortunately i commute to school so i can't give any helpful information on dorms.

    Academic Rigor

classes range in size, however, regardless of size the instructors at unlv stress the importance of studying on your own as well as in the class. in english 101 you read about an article or chapter a night and write four major papers. in math 120 you pretty much repeat everything you learned from high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and probability. you want to make sure you read what classes are required for your major so you don't waste money for something that doesn't help you work towards a degree. advisors are super helpful at helping you come up with an action plan to graduate within five years or less depending on how hard you want to work.

    Tips for prospective students

get involved as soon as possible. unlv is known as a commuter school, this means that most students go to campus for class and little else. the more involved you get the better college experience you will have. the best place to study is the fourth floor of the library. students can acquire free tutoring by going to the academic building. students should also get to know people in their department because they will be spending the next four years with them. take a minimum of 15 credits. by taking 15 credits instead of the required 12 you allow yourself a little wiggle room in case you need to drop, this will also help you graduate on time.

    In three sentences

unlv has a gorgeous campus that will make you forget you are in las vegas. they offer tons of free tutoring opportunities and studying locations. overall attending unlv is a pleasant experience.

    Campus Safety

Everywhere you go there is either a campus police a camera or a emergency phone booth. I have never had any problems or felt uncomfortable living on campus or walking back from the library late at night. With the right precautions anyone should always take everywhere and the amount of security on campus it wasn't ever an issue for me.

    Greek Life

There are multiple chapters to be able to get involved with. If you want to make the best out of it you have to put effort into being apart of it. If you have time to be around your chapter and help with philanthropies, organizing events and just going out of your way to do something then you'll have an amazing time. A lot of the events are worth it too, like the philanthropies each chapter puts on to help an organization in need and the events you attend are spectacular. The sororities on campus are very well diverse and you really fall in love with the one you choose and the fraternities are very close brothers to each other and each are unique in a way. It's a great way to get a college experience in and keep it going after college. But the best thing I thought was if you have a hard time being away from home it's always great to have some people to fall back onto to help you.

    Clubs and Activities

There is always people around campus trying to get you to join in on something whether its fliers for a dunk tank to raise money or a group trying to get a team together for intramural games. There is also always free classes in the gym to go do like spin, yoga or just go relax in one of the pools.

Great for these types of students

I think its great for all types of students. out of state, in state and from all over. Its a well diverse school and you will find people that relate to you if you really look. It's not very close to the country so if you hate the city it's a little bit harder for you, and me. But it's still enjoyable and well rounded.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a HeyReb statue on the east side of campus going towards the theater rooms and a lot of times it's said that if your feeling nervous for a test people will go over and rub him for good luck. I still have yet to try it, but it's worth a try.

    Bang for the buck

The school offers a lot of discount cards the beginning of the year they hand out to students a lot of people don't get them but I do. You can get buy one get one free on food near campus and cheap show tickets for shows like the BlueMan Group. Also, the best burger places are literally almost on campus and you will learn to save so you can go eat sushi a few times a month. A lot of the restaurants around school offer UNLV student discounts its awesome!!

    What to do for fun

There is a lot of different things to do for fun. Depending on the type of person you are there is a four story gym on campus, free to full time students, and also offers intramural teams each season that you can sign up for. SO FUN! Around the school there isn't too much that is walking distance, but a mile away is the Las Vegas Strip. There is roller coasters and restaurants for younger students and clubs for 21+ students. But if your an outdoors person there is Lake Mead down the highway that is gorgeous and Red Rock canyon which is pretty much for people who don't hike to extreme go getter's who want a challenge. There is also Greek Life that you can get involved with to meet new individuals and join a close group of people to help you and be a pseudo family for you away from home.

    Food and Dining

The Dining commons mostly used by the students in the dorms because they get a meal plan, but the food is pretty diverse. It has good quality food and is changed up everyday in different areas so you don't get too bored with it. There is also a good amount of places to eat around campus such as Starbucks, Einstein bagels, Greens-to-go, Subway and more. But also the campus is walking distance to students local favorite spots to eat.

    Dorm Life

I'm not to big of a fan on the dorm life because there isn't a kitchen in the rooms, but they are quaint and spaced out enough that you and your roommate (if you have one) have your own space. There not super huge or anything spectacular but they really help you to get to know other students and make friends fast. Also, there is quiet areas so if you can't study in your room there are study rooms available that you can go into at anytime to finish your assignments. RA's are pretty good about helping you out with any situation you have and the buildings are monitored and locked all the time.

    Academic Rigor

As lower classman the school work is what I would say is an introduction to the college life. The undergraduate teachers are a little more lenient about what type of homework you are assigned and they try to make it fair for you to be able to complete the assignment. Sometimes you catch a hardcore professor that can really make it challenging for you but class mates are usually nice enough to help out or 2nd floor in the library is a tutoring area for every subject.

    Tips for prospective students

If your looking for a University that is very diverse and offers a lot of opportunities in multiple industries to help you jump start your career early this is a great college. It's located in a great area to help you decide what you really want to do after college and there is always someone that can help you with anything. From tutoring in the library to reviews with your teachers they want you to succeed if you put effort out to try to succeed.

    In three sentences

Great atmosphere for students that are serious about studying and getting a degree. One of the top colleges for Hotel Management and has amazing variety of majors to offer. Has one of the biggest Libraries on the West Coast that does sure come in handy during finals week to make everything so much easier.

UNLV has all 9 Black Greek Sororities and Fraternities, and hundreds and hundreds of NPHC Sororities and Fraternities as well.

    What to do for fun

For fun you can go to the dollar movie theatre, hang out in the student union, which also has a game room, visit the library, attend games, play intramural sports like volleyball, basketball, etc, join organizations or create your own organizations.

    Food and Dining

Great selections to choose from for both the healthy and unhealthy eaters.

    Dorm Life

The dorm adviser's are easy to contact. Security enforces cameras, assigned ID cards for entering and exiting dorms, and study rooms are located inside the dorms as well.

UNLV prides itself on making sure students excel, with that being said your studies are very important and they do deliver tough love, so make sure you study and complete your assignments in a timely fashion.

    Campus Safety

I've never had any sort of campus safety problem. Campus police will usually send emails to all students as tests for real safety concerns should any arise in the future.

    Clubs and Activities

A lot of clubs and organizations, but not as active as other school organizations may be.

Great for these types of students

Those who want to experience life alone and have some fun.

    Bang for the buck

If you're not living on campus the classes don't cost that much, considering the lower rank of the school. But if you are I would think again.

    What to do for fun

Get into clubs and other organizations to have fun on campus. If you're twenty-one and over you have the strip a couple minutes away.

    Food and Dining

Good variety of food from taco bell to subway to panda express. There's also a starbucks and a jamba juice in the student union.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live there, but I'm assuming it would be a good experience living on campus.d

    Academic Rigor

It's a good school, but the rigor is not on the level with other higher-rated schools.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want the college experience live on campus, otherwise explore other options.

    In three sentences

It has great facilities. Seems more like a commute school. Some student involvement.

The campus has a very safe feel, especially with its open environment. I have never felt insecure and going on campus is a safe and friendly experience.

Currently not in any clubs, mostly keep to myself, but I have not heard anything negative.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants to get into business management would benefit from this school, because of the high demand in the hotel and casino industry.

    Bang for the buck

Good school and provides students with the opportunity to learn and make progress towards their goals and degree.

    What to do for fun

The campus itself has a nice safe policy of no substances on campus, but because of its location in Las Vegas for those over the age of 21 the possibilities and opportunity for fun at night is endless.

    Food and Dining

There is an abundance of food available on campus and around it. There are a lot of unique hole in the wall spots that are great to eat in between classes or simply to hang out with friends, definitely a great food area.

    Dorm Life

I'm not sure how the dorm life on campus is, because I do not live on campus.

By applying yourself in the classes and putting forth effort it is very easy to receive a good grade in classes. All of the information is available by professors, it is just up to the student to take the time and do the work.

    What to do for fun

On campus, there are clubs: academic and sometimes the Dining Commons is turned into a club. There are also school events, the school gets really hyped up during the basketball season. If you like to stay in shape, you can always hit up the Recreational Center. Off campus, the experience is different depending on if you are legal or not.

    Food and Dining

Some people like the dining commons food, some don't, you have to try it for yourself. If you don't want DC food, you can go to Subway, Panda Express or Taco Bell, etc. There are also off campus options that are in walking distance.

    Dorm Life

It is really easy to make friends. If you don't get along well with strangers, dorm in a single. You get a big room to yourself if you get a single. If you dorm with a stranger you get to make a new friend. There are activities for the residents, so make sure you are around to join in. There are three separate dorms, this my opinion based on mine.

    Academic Rigor

Just because it is Vegas doesn't mean you are automatically going to get A's in all of your classes. The work is difficult, but it can be done if you dedicate time to your studies. The work varies by teacher and grade level.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to live off campus, it is cheaper. Get a car or make friends with people that have cars. Stay on top of your studies, you can get distracted by the strip if you let it. Check out the campus before going there, it is big and your classes can be spread out, so be cautious of that.

    In three sentences

University of Nevada, Las Vegas is a good school to begin and finish your college education. UNLV offers several different areas of concentration, you just have pick one that fits you and your plan for your future. UNLV can open the door to opportunities that you wouldn't or couldn't have at any other school.

    Campus Safety

Top Notched. Always police around to insure your safety and to help out even if it's just to escort you to a class if you get lost. You will NEVER feel unsafe on campus.

    Greek Life

One word.....LOVE. Every individual chapter can stand alone but no matter what we are always united. You never see just the Delta Zetas or Alpha Gamma Deltas, etc hanging out only with their kind, they're always inter mingled. if you're a Greek no matter your letters, we are all family! Greek life here is like no other campus. And we often do have new chapters join our campus. This Fall '12 we are proud to welcome Tri Sigma. Definitely don't be afraid to go Greek.

    Clubs and Activities

WAY TOO MANY TO LIST!!! But believe me when I say it brilliant. And if you are interested in Greek life, honestly we have the best. We have many different Greek chapters but the difference is instead of always competing and being enemies or having a fear of hazing we truly are all one big happy Greek family. The chemistry is like that with all groups on campus. UNLV is the ultimate school to get involved in whethers going Greek, writing for the school paper, or being involved in student politics.

Great for these types of students

ANY AND ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME!!!! If you're into urban affairs, liberal arts, business, or hospitality, or even law than I would definitely come here. Best of the best. Oh and dont forget opur performing arts majors.....half the campus is dedicated to you through Ham Hall. Oh and our sciences are top notch. Astronomy & engineering are amazing. Basically everything for everyone. Come one come all!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many traditions we have like Premier night which is a huge food and concert like festival with free shirts, and fireworks and all that jazz to welcome back the students. Super fun. We also have a lot of Greek life events and traditions that go on. & the Lied library aka Club Lied is definitely the spot to hangout. it is not your typical library. It's actually fun and high tech.

    Bang for the buck

UNLV is still one of the most affordable schools around. & depending on your major it truly is as good as some of the ivy leagues in my opinion. You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. By far a great investment.

    What to do for fun

What isn't there to do for fun. There are always activities and events going on around campus especially if your involved in our organizations on campus or in greek life. Also you're minutes away from the strip, which has many fun options. Vegas is very fun. There are always cheap concerts going around, food festivals. And of course don't forget the basketball games! Amazing fun. Oh and did I mention a lot of high important people like to drop by, like the president, Nobel prize winners, celebrities, and anyone you can think of. I just saw Obama this summer. Amazing!

    Food and Dining

The Student Union offers a great place to dine along with our dining commons however it can get boring fast or may not satisfy your taste buds if you picky. But there are a ton of food places across the street or next to UNLV. And seriously some hidden gems like Stephano's Mediterranean grill. Too die for food. And everything is fairly priced. Also the strip is only 5 mins away, so if you have a taste for gourmet you are sure to be satisfied.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is essential here. & the dorms are really excellent and decked out. I personally dont live in a dorm because i reside with my parents but I am always sneaking in the dorms to visit my friends. ITs actually a great hangout spot. & the security is top notch & there are 24/7 help desk always.

    Academic Rigor

There are tons of different classes that help you to excell and gain new perspective. We really have some of the greatest professors ever. They all seem very willing to help you out & understand your own needs. This is a school where you can take an exam and then have an intellectual discussion over coffee with your professor afterwards.

    Tips for prospective students

Schedule a tour around campus, and talk to the students to get a feel of what life is like. Try attending an event and see if you can feel that burning Rebel passion. Also do research. UNLV has been climbing the charts when it comes to great universities. We have the top Hospitality program in the world, our law school is in the top 10, our journalism and media studies program is top of the line, our basketball team is top 5 in the nation now, and so much more. Also there are sooooooo many organizations to get invovled in. Just take some time out to visit. Or try just one semester. You will be glad you chose it as your undergraduate college.

    In three sentences

UNLV is an amazing diverse and active campus. There is always some going on which leads to many ways to get involved. The passion at this school is amazing and UNLV is really a best kept secret.

    Greek Life

They are truly involved in making the school campus and community a better place.

    Clubs and Activities

They have such a large variety of Organizations that meets the majority of individuals expectations.

Great for these types of students

All Kinds. Any. No matter where they're from.

    What to do for fun

I like to go on the library computers and download music or play games. In addition the school has a game room where one can spend great quality time with friends. Another positive enjoyable way to have fun and relieve stress is the UNLV gym; I practically live there.

    Food and Dining

The food variety is great, and their customer service is fabulous.

    Dorm Life

I do not dorm at UNLV, but it looks tempting. The area is clean, safe, and close to areas where lots of people constantly walk by. I plan to dorm next year in the Fall.

    Academic Rigor

The classes gradually become rigorous. Overall, its a piece of cake, one simply has to do the homework and pay attention in class. If in doubt, asking questions is the best solution.

    Tips for prospective students

Study Study Study!! Always do your assignments once they are assigned. Learn to balance your schedule. College is such an amazing experience, and it goes the way one wants it to be. In addition, always seek for help and ask questions. There will always be somebody to help.

    In three sentences

The school is fabulous. I love how all the students are engaged in successful;ly finishing their degree, and most of all are helpful with one another. the environment at UNLV is shaped by the astounding proffessors, and kind faculty; I couldn't ask more from this diverse University.

    Bang for the buck

SAVE, everything you can college is expensive. I'm talking about everything from books to online codes. Use outside sources to get your books like amazon, saved me $400.

    Food and Dining

food is plentiful at UNLV. we have food in school, around school, we even have food in our gym! It can be packed; try to ignore the big lunch times like one and you'll be fine.

    Dorm Life

don't live in the dorms but from my outside perspective they look nice! must be nice to go home between classes.

    Academic Rigor

TEST, TEST, TEST, i cant tell you how important it is to study. Study like you never had before, once one test is out start studying for the rest. it will really get you ahead in everything.

    Tips for prospective students

almost everyone fails their first exam in collage. Weather it's because your nervous or didn't study but don't let it bring you down. Its alot of pressure knowing 4 test determine your whole grade. Just take it one test at a time and keep going.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love my school, i give it a 10. although it is in a busy area there are safe cross walks and lots of food around my school :) yummy!

    Campus Safety

Okay. A couple bikes have gotten stolen, but other than that it is relatively safe here on campus. I feel safe walking at night. The police are always around. There are call buttons in case of an emergency. Directly off campus is a horrible neighborhood, but on campus is great considering the area of Vegas.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a wide variety of clubs to join from the Anime club, to Bible groups, to a pizza club. Come on. Pizza? But that is the point. In college there is so much to offer. You have an interest, start a club if it's not already there. UNLV is huge on involvement in the community too. Don't be afraid to check them out as soon as you get here.

    Bang for the buck

Prices for things are pretty great for in-state students. Even out of state, there's so much offered here that is paid for in the tuition. It really is amazing.

    What to do for fun

I go to the library for fun. There's a game room in the Student Union. There is a gym that we get to go to for free if you are a full time student (it's paid for in your tuition). Even if you get bored on campus, we have the pinball hall of fame right down the street (get some geek on).

    Food and Dining

The food is good. I like the dining commons quite a bit. Sometimes the food is a bit bland, hence only four stars, but I like it.

    Dorm Life

I do not actually live in the dorms, so this is a review from my friends. Some dorms are nice, but depending on which one you live in, it might be bad. Dayton has a lot of parties and broken stuff, so everyone on that floor gets charged. UCC and Tonopah aren't that bad though.

    Academic Rigor

A majority of my classes require a lot of work from me. A couple of them are easy, but I have to say that UNLV went above my expectations.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to keep on top of your work. Do not procrastinate. I know it is common to do so in high school, but you will get really behind from all the reading and work that you have to do here.

    In three sentences

UNLV is definitely a place to go if you are looking for a cheap and nice college education. We have the second top business college in the nation and are not that far behind when it comes to law and some of the other colleges. I recommend this school.

    What to do for fun

Honestly, I love to hang out in the SU or the library with a couple friends and just talk.

    Food and Dining

I have only eaten in the SU, but the prices are very reasonable, and there's a machine in the center of the room that will give you a dollar off with your rebel card.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I find the classes very fair when it comes to difficulty. It's not high school, but it's not nearly as hard as I expected.

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV is a very friendly school, if you get lost, more than likely there are a handful of people around that would be willing to help you. If you have classes that are on opposite sides of the campus, make sure you have a break in between.

    In three sentences

UNLV is a very big commuter school, I only know of about five people staying on campus. Class sizes are pretty large for the more common classes (i.e. BIOL & MATH), however ENG classes are a very good size (25+-). The library is gorgeous and the Student Union is a very common place to hang out.

Great for these types of students

UNLV is a HUGE commuter school, meaning a very small percentage of the students live on campus, so students looking to live off campus would not be alone.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take the Las Vegas heat into consideration - I've seen a lot of students turn down UNLV because it's too hot, when in reality it isn't unbearable during the fall and spring semesters.

    Bang for the buck

UNLV offers one of the cheapest educations in the West, but I'm not saying it's cheap. Students coming from out of state might be underwhelmed at the curriculum.

    Am enjoying being here

UNLV is a blast. Even though it's mostly a commuter school, I have found a lot to do on campus. And, of course, it's Las Vegas, so there is always something to do!

    Am learning a lot

The academics at UNLV are like all academics in Nevada right now - going downhill. Overall it depends on what degree you are looking for. If you're looking at UNLV for geoscience or hospitality, this is the place to be. UNLV also offers a lot of majors that UNR no longer offers, if you are a Nevada resident looking for in-state education.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. There is the university police which is right next to the campus, and there are emergency buttons at every corner. The students on campus are very safe and secure.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life is great! The fraternities and sororities volunteer around the city and also put together activites for the entire school to participate in. Also, the bond you will receive with the people in your fraternity or sorority is amazing and you will create friendships that will last forever.

    Clubs and Activities

Rebel Pride is a club that plans events on campus for students. The events range from movie nights to talent shows.

Great for these types of students

Students interested in the Hotel College! The University of Nevada-Las Vegas is the number one hospitality school in the world. The teachers have worked in the hospitality industry and are able to give real life examples about how the industry works. Also, teachers are able to set up job or internship interviews for students.

    Bang for the buck

Attending this university is well worth the money. The classes are great, the teachers are superb, and the atmosphere and location of the university is excellent. The education that students will receive at this university will help them in everything that they do in their future.

There is so much to do in Las Vegas for fun. The most popular attractions can be found on the strip. The strip is located right outside of the university. Many students will go there on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the cafeteria dining is not great. Many of the students who have to eat in the cafeteria complain about the food, but the students union building does offer food choices such as Subway, Panda Express, Jamba Juice, and many other places.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is excellent. The rooms are large enough for two people and offer more than enough space for storage. Living in the dorms allows students the opportunity to meet and socialize with people from all over the country and the world.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor merely depends on your major and which classes you decide to enroll in. There are classes that will take up most of your free time outside of class, and then there are classes that do not assign any assignments.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, be sure that you are able to live in very hot and dry weather conditions. All of the programs and classes are fantastic, but if you are interested in the hotel and hospitality department then it is crucial for you to take HMD 101. It is a great class that teaches students about the different career paths within the hospitality industry.

    There is something for EVERYONE.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a place by the soccer fields on top of a hill that has the greatest view of the Strip in the city. There are many little hidden places like this around campus that are beautiful.

    Bang for the buck

Out-of-state tuition is pretty steep, but I think the overall experience is worth the price.

    What to do for fun

Las Vegas is a great city in that you can be anyone and do anything you want. This city has everything anyone could want, if you go looking. Music to shopping to clubbing to a nice cafe to sit and chat with a friend, this city's strength lies in its diversity and availability. And it doesn't hurt that the Strip can be seen from almost everywhere on campus.

    Food and Dining

The Dining Commons are hit or miss, but is a decent place to go for campus residents. The Student Union houses good options and a variety for a quick meal (pizza, salads, Subway, Panda Express, etc.) and the two on-campus gas station-like stores are a good place to grab a snack.

    Dorm Life

The dorms were a good place for me to meet people, but it wasn't the greatest experience. It's pretty overpriced for the quality of the rooms and few students actually live on campus. It's not the worst place to be, but the experience could be much better.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the classes you take, things can be fairly simple or extremely rigorous. You'll find some teachers and classes are much harder than others, but I believe there are more important things than just textbook lessons.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a commuter campus so many student come to class and then leave, but there are a million ways to get involved. Join a group or club (of which there are tons for all interests!) and you can create a sense of community in a place where it's not readily available otherwise.

    In three sentences

I'd give UNLV a 3.5 out of 5 overall. I love my classes and the the diversity of the campus is second to none. The dorm life and school spirit could be better, but overall this is a good school.

    Campus Safety

The campus police are everywhere on campus. You are so safe there it's like having your mom right next door. They have emergency phones ALL over campus in case something happens and they are not there. There are security cameras too.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs here. They have sports clubs, language clubs, ethnicity clubs, food clubs (they have a club just for different types of cheese!), hobby clubs (including Star Wars), and so much more.

Great for these types of students

Sometimes you think you're all alone on campus because you don't know anybody. That's how I feel sometimes. There was this one time that I was walking around campus during my free time and I walked into the Student Union where a group of people came up to me and told me they were one person short for a game of softball and they asked me if I wanted to play. I said yes and ended up having a great time and I met some new people. My point is...shy people...you're never really alone. Make the effort to try things so you can break out of your shell.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you explore the campus by just randomly walking places, you can find shortcuts to class. I used to think there were only a few places to park around campus, but since I've explored, I found this other parking lot that is right next to my class and it's right behind In-N-Out Burger!

    What to do for fun

Go to the Student Union! They have everything in that building...from playing pool with a group of friends, to relaxing in lounge chairs and hanging with friends. Or just go outside and soak up the sun by playing Frisbee or football with some friends.

    Food and Dining

Awesome food! They have pizza, Italian food, burgers and fries, fish, a salad bar, a desert bar (including frozen yogurt), and unlimited sodas, milk, water. They have anything you could want.

    Dorm Life

My brother lived in the dorms and said they were awesome. I saw them and I concur.

    Academic Rigor

You have some classes that are easy A's while other classes that are challenging. You have to devote the time to your classes to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Attend classes and sit in one of the front rows. 2. People (including you!) are paying for these classes now. So stop talking and learn something without having to whisper the entire class to one of your best friends sitting next to you. 3. Do your homework...seriously. 4. Join study groups, it really helps. 5. Ask your professors questions during their office hours...that's what they're there for!

    In three sentences

This college is perfect. It has everything you could ever want and so much more. The people are friendly and the college is in walking distance to everything from grocery stores to post offices.

    Campus Safety

Campus is relatively secure, but there are times when random people, such as homeless individuals or those down on their luck, show up walking around. There are bright blue emergency poles located all over campus, so if there is any trouble, all one need do is push the button and help will come. There is a campus police force, but the phone number has to be found on the college website; we aren't made to put the number in our phones at orientation, for example. There is a mounted police force that is seen occasionally, and the officers are very kind.

Great for these types of students

UNLV is great for those students who don't mind an average education, can make friends easily, and are open to try new things that maybe they were skeptical of before. There are lots of opportunities to go out and party, but it's also easily avoidable if one so wishes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a little garden placebo and pathway kind of hidden on campus. The placebo is covered with vines and plants that provide shade, and it's a relatively quiet place to go and contemplate things. It's hardly ever populated.

    Bang for the buck

Considering that it's cheaper than going out of state, the education you get for what you spend really is quite good. The quality isn't top notch, but it does serve for getting a decent education and provides the platform for a career later in life. Tuition prices have gone up, and they continue to go up little by little each semester, which can be a real problem if it continues to increase.

    What to do for fun

Since it's Las Vegas, there is always the Strip. There are many free things to do there, such as watching certain shows and seeing the many shops and such, as well as walking around just to enjoy the view. That's the biggest attraction, but there are other things to do that only locals know about. Such as hiking in Red Rock, visiting the Springs Preserve, and other little shops and stores, like karaoke, that no one else would know about.

    Food and Dining

On campus dining is surprisingly good for what it is. The dining common does have some variety in food choices, and there are healthy choices, like salad, soups, yogurt, and fruit and vegetables. Protein is provided, such as chicken, steak, and hamburger, and there are also the common junk foods, such as pizza and desserts. But the food really is decent. There are many fast food places and restaurants off campus within walking distance, from sandwich shops to mexican restaurants.

    Dorm Life

While I myself haven't lived in the dorms, I have been in my friends' dorms, and it's average. The rooms are about medium sized for dorm rooms; you can move around easily and have some space with two people, and there's enough room for a sizeable group to fit, as well. The rooms do differ in size depending on what building you're in. The bathrooms are set up so 2 rooms share one shower and toilet, but sinks are put in the actual dorm rooms so there's no jockeying for space in the bathroom.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the classes you take and the major you're in, it's not really all that difficult to keep up with the work and do well. There are some challenging classes, and it mainly has to do with reading the materials and textbooks and digesting the information than anything else. It's important to understand the material being taught, and to apply it to other situations and consider different perspectives to really understand it. The curriculum is a little writing heavy, but it really isn't anything more than I did in my AP classes in high school. I am learning a lot of new information, and my eyes are being opened to all the possibilities there are out there.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for top notch quality education, you're not really going to find it here. But if you're just looking to get a decent education and can deal with some of the pitfalls of living in Sin City, such as the partying and the Strip being basically right down the street, then it's a good college to attend to get your degree, or even just to take some classes.

    In three sentences

UNLV isn't a bad college, it's just that Las Vegas isn't a college town, it's just a town with a college in it. Locals make up a large proportion of the student body, but those from out of state are relatively warmly received and can make friends easily.

    Food and Dining

There are so much food joint to choose from inside the Student Union. These include Subway, Metro Sub, Panda Express, Taco Bell, and so on. UNLV has a buffet style dining as well if you get tired of these places.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus so I couldn't tell that much. Although, working as a lab monitor in these dorms (Tonopah and Dayton Dorms) I could say that these dorms are well maintained and there are front desks that could readily help out a student. The dorms are clean and complete with everything you may need.

    Academic Rigor

Classes here at UNLV are hard, but doable. As long as you can invest a lot of time reading and learning for each class, then you will be able to pass them. Determination and motivation is the key!

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of what UNLV has to offer and don't take your classes lightly. Even though UNLV is known as a party school, in reality, these events have their time and places. Focus on your education and have fun later.

    In three sentences

I would rate UNLV a five star overall. The campus life is amazing and there are tons of social clubs where you can meet up with anyone. Unlv offers tons of classes not found anywhere else in Clark county. Unlv offers jobs as well that accommodate students' time and also they are easy.

    Food and Dining

The dining commons havea good selection of food. They recently updated it with a nice salad bar area. The student union also has a great selection of resturants.

    Dorm Life

Since UNLV only requires freshman to live on campus, it is a commuter school. The dorms aren't the cleanest. There isn't a variety of styles on dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The dificulty of your major depends on what you pick. Science majors are a lot more difficult than Communication or Hotel Management. It is possible to graduate in 4 years.

    Tips for prospective students

Commuter school with only freshman living on campus. Register as soon as you can because classes do fill up. Pick a major you will enjoy because all the majors offered here are great.

    In three sentences

There are great professors, especially in your actual major. The hotel management program is great and not offered many places. Commuter school but you do meet a lot of people.

I can't tell you much about the dining hall, but you do get a huge choice from the many places in the Student Union and the the places that are a a walk away from the campus. It's just that everything is a little bit more expensive than usual.

    Dorm Life

Don't really know, I live at home. 3 because it's asking for a rating either way.

    Academic Rigor

Pretty much like everywhere else, it can depend on your professors. Either you get some pretty awesome people that help you every step of the way, or people that just fumble about, confusing you every step of the way.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for large, crowded classes and tons of studying. If you dedicate the time, you will have the GPA that reflects your efforts.

    In three sentences

I love the teaching assistants and instructors. I do not, however, like the crowded classes and feel like just another face in a sea of students. It is a great choice and overall, I am happy to attend this university.

    Bang for the buck

A little expensive, was cheaper about a year ago, the school really messed up things for the students by having such a hike in tuition recently.

There are lectures held on campus all the time. The Student Union is where most people usually are, but there's nothing in there but the food court. You can join a sorority or fraternity if you want to pay for friends!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to every class! Since most of them are lectures with hundreds of students, it may be hard to pay attention. In that case, sit up front, take legible notes. Also make sure to spend quality time every day looking over notes and studying.

    In three sentences

This school is very expensive despite me being a resident. The teachers will be either horrible or great due to them assigning way too much, or some do not assign any at all. From a 1-10 scale I would say 5.5.

    What to do for fun

UNLV is a very active campus with sports clubs for the athlete who doesn't want the pressure of mock-celebrity college athletics, sororities, fraternities, organizations delegated for different races, majors, and activities. And on occasion, there will be events for the entire student body to enjoy throughout campus.

    Food and Dining

The Dining Commons, Student Union, and POD are all places you can find different foods to feed a hungry student's taste buds. The DC has cooked foods with a salad bar for healthier choices, and the SU nearby for the quick fast-food needs or snacks to keep in your dorm in the POD.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are spacious and livable with the usual amenities like a bathroom and beds to fit all heights. The people staying in dorms are very friendly and quick to meet incoming students, so having fun in dorms will be simple.

    Academic Rigor

UNLV does not have a strong academic reputation compared to universities like Harvard, Yale or Brown; however, it offers a lot of opportunity to broaden one's mind with knowledgeable staff to help.

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I can offer is to find their niche. It is very easy to get lost in the mist of all the personalities on campus and if one has not defined themselves, they will spend more time alone and not get the full college experience. Pick an interest one enjoys and find a club or organization that feeds that interest, then one has the opportunity to meet people with the same mind.

    In three sentences

The campus is a great symbol of Nevada's infamous desert terrain. It uses a rocky-landscape and various shades of sienna to accent the dry ambiance. It is not a strong academic school, but reputable nonetheless and very diverse.

    Food and Dining

The Dining Commons on campus has improved. They have more variety and are better with their meal plans. The food places on campus are good but they are making more changes as the years progress.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is one of the best places to meet and connect with a lot of people. Expensive of course but the people are great to know and there are a lot of activities to participate in since you're at the college 24/7.

    Academic Rigor

Their academics could be a little better. It depends, if you want the best then I wouldn't suggest here. Don't get me wrong, the professors are laid back but I wouldn't say majority of the professors here are the best. Academically, I think they are average- depending on the major you are in of course.

    Tips for prospective students

Although football may not be the biggest winning factor for UNLV, their basketball here is one of the best (I have to say). For academics, their hospitality program is the best- from resources to professors it is a definite plus if you plan on majoring in the hospitality field. Ratemyprofessor.com is a life savor for those pre-requisite courses- especially for math teachers.

    In three sentences

UNLV is a very laid back college. There is a lot of diversity here. People here are approachable and fun to get to know and hang out with.

    What to do for fun

Get involved as much as possible. UNLV has more than 300 student organizations providing many opportunities to make many friendships and many memories.

    Food and Dining

UNLV has a lot of places to eat including a buffet-style dining commons. The food is fresh, more often than not, and throughout most campus locations, food is reasonably priced. They have flexible hours and two convenience stores that are open late.

    Dorm Life

UNLV has a large percentage of students come from out of the state. With that said, the resident life is cohesive and it allows a vast amount of opportunities to become involved thereby getting the most out of the college experience.

    Academic Rigor

The student that wants to make the most of their academic experience will do so by its own will and not necessarily the faculty membership. They rely a lot on the student to acquire the knowledge needed to succeed. The faculty, in general, is not as strict as it could be.

    Tips for prospective students

Become involved outside of the classroom in order to compliment the experience inside the classroom with real world experiences. Due to the commuter aspect of UNLV, it provides a lot of opportunities to gain experience throughout the local community!

    In three sentences

UNLV is a young school where learning happens in the context of diversity, inclusion and a wonderful atmosphere for learning. It is big as well as small in the sense that it is a big campus with a colloquial feeling.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs here, but you have to go searching for them.

Great for these types of students

Art students and engineering students are certain to enjoy it here. I cannot say for sure for other types.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are a few hidden galleries around campus in places you would not expect. The fun part is accidentally discovering them.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to the local community college, UNLV is far more expensive, but also offers bigger classrooms with better materials and a bigger collection of professors and class times to choose from. All in all, it offers more options.

    What to do for fun

Besides the performing arts center theater productions constantly going on, the strip is right by to provide entertainment.

    Food and Dining

The food court in the student center has a pizza place, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Jamba Juice, a burger joint, and something else I cannot remember at the moment. But what's even better is that UNLV is right by the strip with a bunch of other food options once you find yourself sick of the food here.

    Academic Rigor

All English courses here take up a lot of time outside of the classroom. Expectations vary remarkably between professors, but most will happily go over drafts with you during their office hours. The writing center offers some free tutoring help too.

    Tips for prospective students

You can figure out if a professor's teaching style is for you by the second class. If it isn't working, drop the course. Sticking it out is never a good idea, especially for your GPA. If there is a professor you connect with who teaches in the field you are interested in, don't be afraid to visit them during their office hours. It's a great time to ask questions and build a relationship with someone who has already been through it all.

    In three sentences

UNLV has a great variety of classes an professors to pick from; they really gather some of the best of the best. But poorly paid part-time student workers means many mistakes happen in the administrative areas of the college. As long as you keep on top of making sure all your information is correct and accounted for, you are in for a fantastic experience.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do on campus. You just have to find something that interests you. Off campus, there are other places to go besides the Strip. Walking down the street is quite the adventure in itself: many shops and food [places to visit. There are some museums for those of us that love to learn.

    Food and Dining

Blah, I rather eat at home or off campus.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, but I have a friend who does. From what I've heard, it has it's ups and downs.

    Academic Rigor

Be creative. Use proper citations. Be prepared to pay attention. Missing one day could set you back, depending on what you are majoring in.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose your major wisely. I found it hard not knowing what to major in, especially since I transferred here with many, many credits. Also, check to make sure your credits transfer correctly or you'll have to retake/be forced to take general ed courses. Explore the campus thoroughly; after a whole year, I finally found the campus Subway. Now I need to find a healthier eating place.

    In three sentences

Considering that I am from a neighboring county in California, the tuition and fees were much cheaper than the UC and CalState schools. The professors have been very helpful, more than the academic advisers. The only problem that I have had was with Financial Aid assistance.

    Clubs and Activities

UNLV offers a variety of clubs and activities, you'll have to check your rebel mail account very often to be aware of these happening or check the posters in the Student Union.

Great for these types of students

If you like to study in a quiet place like me check out the the 4th or 5th floor of the Lied Library. There's almost nobody there and you'll find the best view of the school.

    What to do for fun

As I said before if you're under 21 there's not much to do so try to join as many clubs as possible and if you have the money to join a sorority/fraternity do it. There is also the opportunity to fun road trips to California, Arizona, and Reno as long as you have a car or a friend of your does.

    Food and Dining

It's really good at the beginning but you eventually get tired of it. It has a lot of variation and they offer different foods from different cultures which I liked because I got to try new foods. The desserts are the only food that's not really good, but everything else is. The workers there are really nice, I even became friends with a few of them.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are bigger than I expected and the all the RAs I met were really nice, the same with the staff working there, but the problem is there are no enough fun activities to do around Las Vegas if you are under 21. That's why I rate it 2 stars.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are strict as any other professors but if you attend class everyday and show interest in the class, you won't have a problem. Don't be afraid to ask the professors anything they can be really nice but do it preferably before class.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't underestimate school events, they can be really fun. I also encourage people to live in the dorms if you can and join clubs you might be surprise of what you get out of it.

    In three sentences

It's the perfect school for commuters, and academically is really good with many options and resources to guarantee your success in class but the social life is not very good if you're not in a fraternity/sorority or over 21.

Also, there is also a building called the Student Union which includes several places to eat such as Jamba Juice, Subway, Starbucks, Metro Pizza, etc. Not only is there food on campus, but there are several places to eat within a 5-10 minute walking distance.

    Dorm Life

I love the dorm life at UNLV. The plus size about the dorms is the availability and size options. UNLV offers, singles, double, triple and suite rooming options. The best thing about the dorms is that you do not have to share a bathroom with the entire floor and instead one or 3 other people.

    Academic Rigor

UNLV academic standard in regards to general requirements are not hard to follow and be successful. However, when a student get into his or her major then the academia work load become harder.

    Tips for prospective students

When choosing a college make sure that the college actually has your major. Also, if the college does have your major get INVOLVED in an association or club that will help provide community and networking involvement in your future career.

    In three sentences

UNLV offers students a wide variety of classes that will struggle a prospective/ current students' intellect. UNLV allows an individual to branch out and provides growth for both men and women. UNLV utilizes academia in ways that make college a fun place to meet life long friends.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun at UNLV. Like to work out? There's a humongous gym ready for any UNLV student to use, free of charge! Like swimming, tennis, or basketball? UNLV has it all! There's so many activities provided on campus, you don't need to go around town wasting money when you could do it at UNLV for free! Not so much of an athlete? Well, UNLV provides a fresh, cool library with private study rooms if needed too! Of course if you aren't much of a reader, why not join some organizations available on campus? Believe me there's tons. Some organizations include: Student Government, Kiwanis, DECA, etc..

    Food and Dining

I have yet to experience the food and dining on the actual campus. However, from a recent tour of the school I could see that there is an enormous variety of foods to choose from. This was a very pleasant surprise, considering how more choices made it easier to attend to different students' preferences.

    Dorm Life

I'm not living in a dorm at UNLV. However, during my tour of the school we passed by the dorms which seemed very peaceful and commendable.

    Academic Rigor

This University is amazing when it comes to clarification of any matter. Have a question? Unsure of what means what? Still don't understand? They will attend to your concerns for as long as you need, until you understand the subject up, down, left, right, and all around!

    Tips for prospective students

Dear Prospective Students, Don't wait until the last minute to start looking for scholarships. Don't feel dejected if you do not receive a specific scholarship, you win some, you lose some. Keep moving forward and you'll surely succeed in whatever academic/career path you choose. Never give up, and stay optimistic.

    In three sentences

UNLV's campus is extremely Eco-friendly. I especially love the art work and culture displays shown all around campus. The staff is quick and efficient, which is a very important aspect I believe a college should attain.

    Campus Safety

Despite being in Downtown Las Vegas, the campus is very safe. Distributed throughout campus are emergency buttons that will have a police officer arrive in minutes to ensure your safety; for example, they will escort you to your dorm at night or even to your car. The police station across the street ensures that students enjoy their education while being safe and feeling safe.

    What to do for fun

Entertainment can be found when getting involved in the many events that occur monthly at UNLV, in the Student Union, or the Gym. If the entertainment in UNLV still isn't enough, try going to Town Square for shopping, and a movie or South Point for bowling, a movie, arcade, and some Steak'n Shake. Las Vegas attracts various tourists, there's plenty of entertainment.

    Food and Dining

If the Student Union and many fast food places available throughout campus aren't enough, why not try going across the street? Across the street of UNLV, there are various restaurants that cater to students. If these places still aren't enough, don't forget you live in Vegas now and go out and explore the beauty of it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms for undergraduates are a blast. Why? Freshmen have their own dorms where they can mingle, and create connections for the next four years of their academic careers. This is where best friends meet and study buddies are made.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are very important and that's what you are going to school and paying so much for. This doesn't mean it has to be boring. Create study groups, gather in the LIED library, or a nearby starbucks and collaborate on projects and studying.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're not living in the dorms and are planning to commute from home, get involved! School and studying just isn't as fun without a break with friends. Go out to one of the plays organized by students, sponsored events, or even out of school to the playground of Las Vegas.

    In three sentences

There are so many things to do on campus. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to say that UNLV is boring unless they don't get involved. Getting involved with sports, clubs, activities, jobs, internships, academics, programs, and sororities/fraternities will most definitely make attending UNLV an exciting and resourceful experience with all the connections to be made and fun to be had.

    Campus Safety

I feel completely safe at school because campus police are always driving around campus and most importantly, emergency phones are conveniently located throughout campus.

    What to do for fun

School activities are held throughout the year and at all hours. Basketball is huge here, so games are exciting. Most people have a large sense of school spirit and it is extremely obvious when game days are. Movie nights, plays, and festivals are common during the school year.

    Food and Dining

The food is great! The dining hall has various options for dining and fast food places are all over campus and even some near campus. Panda Express, Taco Bell, Subway, and other are located inside the Student Union, and In-n-Out right next to campus.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, but I have been inside and they look clean and comfortable. Because I already live in Las Vegas, there was no need for me to live in the dorms, but from what I have seen, the dorms seem very united and active in school activities.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be tough, but they aren't too mind bending. Just listening to lectures, doing homework, and on top of that studying the topics taught in class will help anyone achieve higher grades. There are some classes though, that require much more work than others.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I would say that getting to you your advisor and making yourself known to professors is crucial. Professors are more willing to help when they know who you are and know that you participate during class.

    In three sentences

Overall, UNLV is a great school because various facilities are available to help students achieve stellar grades in their classes. The library is my favorite because it is so spacious and there are specific areas for groups and individual study. Of course, like any school, there are professors who are helpful and others who aren't so much, but luckily most of the professors I have taken classes from, are extremely knowledgeable in their field and patient when teaching certain topics.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe and they have their own police force and many emergency phones with a one to two minute response time after calling. The only crime they get nowadays is theft and that is because students will feel so safe that they will leave their laptop or phone unattended and it won't be there when they get back. Apart from that it is very safe on campus.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do on campus that you don't need to leave campus to have fun. There is hundreds of clubs and study groups, hang-out places and entertainment opportunities, as well as work opportunities that work around your schedule. Movie nights and concerts as well as discount tickets to off campus fun.

    Food and Dining

They offer a lot of different food in the Dining Commons but also a wide variety of food from different fast food restaurants, and don't forget Starbucks.

    Dorm Life

They try their best to connect you with others that have the same interests or personality as you which can become a lifelong friend.

    Academic Rigor

Everyone wants you to succeed only if you want to yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

ALWAYS use the resources that are available to you, and you will not regret any of it because there is so many things this school offers.

    In three sentences

According to the college this is one of the safest schools in the west even though it is in Las Vegas. The resources that are available to the students is bottomless and it is all open to them. The campus also offers a wide variety of students from all fifty states and over ninety countries.

I have been told to always walk to places with someone especially at night but i walk by myself alot and I have been fine but it is always good to take precautions. Also, the school has a crime report on its website so it is accessible to everyone.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a great variety of clubs. You can even start too!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a premiere night where students from all years gather and form a U N L V sign and we do this each year. It's pretty fun, I like it. You get to meet people and lay back.

    What to do for fun

The strip is located about 10-20 minutes away from UNLV so there's always tons to do there.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining is pretty good. There is a wide variety in the Dining Commons with the buffet style and also the student union provides a variety of fast foods such as Panda express, burger studio, metro pizza, taco bell, subway, jamba juice.

    Dorm Life

I love living in the dorms. It is so easy to wake up around 15-30 minutes before you have class or work and be there on time. Also, living in the dorms makes you more involved with campus activities and going to gym, joining clubs and reaching leadership positions and things like that. I am not saying that you can't do that while living off campus, just that it makes it easier. Some of the dorms are pretty old but all the freshmen get to stay in the newer dorms such as Dayton. I stay in Tonopah and I like it because it is close to everything like the student union and classes. Living in the dorms are very expensive and cost about $5000 a semester but it includes a meal plan.

    Academic Rigor

The academics here is not too bad. Make sure you do not procrastinate and you should be fine. Also, taking 15 or more credits while having a part-time job or being involved in campus life CAN be done. If I can do it, so can you!

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV's tuition did rise but they have a good amount of financial aid to help assist students with costs. Also, I advice applying to as many scholarships as you are eligible for because it all adds up in the long run. UNLV is a very big school with 28,000+ students here. There are tons of opportunities to grow as an individual. I advice to become involved in campus life and the very many clubs that are offered on campus. You learn to grow to become a better person and even as a leader.

    In three sentences

UNLV is a pretty good school academic wise and in terms of student involvement. I really like the environment it exudes. People are very friendly and want to learn about different cultures and people.

UNLV is in a big city but on campus I feel safe. The university has multiple emergency stations. Each of them has a phone and a security pager. It is great when you are walking at night by yourself and want help.

Lots of activities and clubs to join. They said if I did not find a club I liked I could even start on myself.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

Many students have talked about all the great basketball games. Students get discounted tickets, which is wonderful for me and my family!

    Food and Dining

The DC is great, set up like a style buffet. They also seem to have good meal packages for students. The campus is very open and has lots of area for eating outside.

    Dorm Life

I have not seen the dorms personally, but I have seen pictures. They seen to be average sized. I gave it two stars because I hear they have community showers, instead of shared Jack and Jill style bathrooms.

    Academic Rigor

Classes seem to be good paced. Many reviews I have seen for my teachers are good.

A tip I would give a prospective student would be to try and get your classes all in the same CBC building. The UNLV campus is beautiful but also huge!

As all colleges seem to be expensive the university of nevada las vegas seems to be put at a fair price. If a student is unable to afford schooling their are many grants, scholarships and financial aids that can be applied for.

    What to do for fun

The Thomas and Mack Arena is one of UNLV's main attractions, as it is the best on the west coast. Many concerts sports and activities are located in the arena on campus grounds. There is also many activities in clubs and areas around the campus.

    Food and Dining

Food at the university is in an extreme variety! Not only is there and in n out burger in walking distance but there are many other food choices and restuarants on campus.

    Campus Safety

The safety on campus is okay, not excellent, but not great either. UNLV is located in the center of the city which is not such a good area. There have been some incidences of muggings in the parking lots and garages and a few incidences in the dorm rooms. There are a few homeless that also come into the library to sit and read, I don't really mind, especially during winter when it's cold outside, but when they start asking for money while we are trying to study it annoys me. I myself don't feel comfortable leaving campus alone late at night after studying. I always leave with my study buddies to feel a bit safer. I feel there should be more security and campus police.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs that can be joined on campus. I myself am in P.A.W.S. a pre-veterinary/animal lover society.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of my favorite locations on campus to study is in White Hall. There is an annex with a waterfall and several plants and trees. It's a nice place to study and relax, it's quiet and all you can usually hear is the waterfall. It's also cool during summer and warm in the winter. Perfect place to study.

    What to do for fun

UNLV is a commuter campus and much of the students attending don't stay on campus. There are occasional movie viewing nights, as well as fundraising opportunities that tend to be fun to attend. There is also a game room in the Student Union that many students use, however I have not. I enjoy going to the UNLV Recreation Center to take classes and work out. They have an amazing lap pool and a track on the top floor that are both enjoyable.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining available on campus is actually quite good however the choices available are rather unhealthy. I would recommend Greens to Go, it is pretty expensive to get a salad there however it is delicious and the salads are large enough to either be split with a study buddy or to have plenty for later if you are spending a night studying late. Excellent food for the price. There is also an Einstein Bagels on the other side of campus that is an excellent choice for breakfast on early study mornings.

    Dorm Life

I am guessing on this since I currently live off campus, but the dorms I have seen are not all that great to be honest.

    Academic Rigor

My major is Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and my classes can be quite challenging. I cannot attest to the difficulty and challenges of other classes in different majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Take full advantage of all the tutoring and student academic success opportunities available for you. Don't be complacent with your classes, take EVERY class seriously and push yourself to do your best, if you are struggling with a class, admit it to yourself and get help.

    In three sentences

The University of Nevada Las Vegas is an excellent university dependent upon your major. If you are a hospitality or business major, art major, etc, this school is excellent, however, if you are a science major such as myself this school leaves a lot to be desired. Every semester poses a challenge just to get into a class, hardly any sections are offered, and when they are they only have a certain amount of spots available, this causes your degree to take much longer than expected to obtain.

Food and dining at UNLV is pretty decent. There are tons of restaurants on campus and also a Dining Commons. The food is good and you never go hungry.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life on campus is amazing. Not many students live on campus so you get one on one attention from Ra's, staff and faculty. Those who live on campus rule the school.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the courses offered very greatly. Some classes will push you to your limits and others you can breeze through. It all depends on your class and your major.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips I would give for prospective students is first, focus on your schooling. Study and learn the material and you will do fine. Second, put all you can into college and it will give it back.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs to choose from on campus along with various sororities/fraternities. Though the latter may not be as easy to join, the accept quite a few people at a time.

    Food and Dining

The Student Union has a pretty variety of selection and there are a few places like Subway and Einsteins in other places in the campus. The Commons, used to be known as Dinning Commons is an all you can eat buffet that does not have the same home styled meal everyday, or even from lunch to dinner. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's a waste. A win-lose situation.

    Dorm Life

Being in the dorms is a great experience to meet new people from not just the United States, but the world as well.

    Tips for prospective students

The food is alright, in the dining commons. We also have this place called the Student Union they also have other food options available. However, right up the street we have inn n out burger it's amazing for those who have not had it.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is amazing, especially if you have an amazing roommate and suite mate like I did. It's a big transition but it's worth it, we also have an amazing view of the Strip from the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Its not that bad, I mean some teachers are strict but it's not like you are on pins and needles everyday. However, it's like every other school if you want good grades you have to keep up with the work and put in the time.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students I would make sure all of my paperwork is alright, keep on them. Call them just to verify everything and make sure you look into the distant education especially if you are out of state and can't afford to be on campus they offer a discount rate.

    In three sentences

I rate University of Nevada- Las Vegas on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest I rate it a 8.5.

    Campus Safety

Campus is pretty safe. There are Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on campus that are driving around vehicles on campus. There are also mounted police officers on campus. Yes when I say mounted, they are on horseback. You can also see them on bike (not motorcycles), but mountain bikes. They are friendly and willing to help.

    Greek Life

Rush week is around the beginning half of the semester.

    Clubs and Activities

MECHA Take Back the Night Various Events Breast Cancer Awareness, Domestic Violence Awareness, Eating contest for charity, Take Back the Night, Rush Week, Free Movie Night. During the first week of the semester, the student union hands out free planners, water, pens, pencils, coupon books for stuff on and off/nearby campus. They are very friendly and also there to help you with directions if you get lost.

Great for these types of students

If you are studious: library extended study area, The Barrick Museum, or 2nd floor in the Student Union lounge go to the first student lounge door (from left to right) Gamer: Game room is set up on 2nd floor at the Student Union. Going from left to right, 2nd door. Sleepy student: I have seen students sleep on the floors in the various buildings in the hallways against the wall. The best places are the library 5th floor and the 3rd student lounge room (going from left to right) on the second floor. The lights are always off. That is considered the sleeping room.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Look for sidewalk chalk writings and drawings on the sidewalk going toward the Student Union for any events. UNLV athletes use the campus sidewalks for running laps with students going to and from classes during the time of day when campus is highly occupied.

    Bang for the buck

Many of the local magazines such as Seven and City Life can be found for free near the bookstore or coffee shop on campus that have information on local restaurants and various events. These local magazines are very thorough and informative. Don't forget to set up your Rebelmail account (student email campus account) and do the surveys for free cafe beverage or smoothie of your choice. Don't forget to help yourself and have your own personal free stash of exam books, scantrons, and #2 pencils from the information desk at the Student Union. They are free.

    What to do for fun

As far as nightlife is concerned in Las Vegas, if you are not 21, the casinos, night clubs, and bars are off limits. If you are 21, the nightlife isn't too bad. For people under 21, there is the art galleries in casinos and downtown and downtown's First Friday (First Friday of the month) event, plenty of malls to shop at, tons of movie theaters for reduced rates for college students, and places to hang out at and eat. There are Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Thai, Vietnamese, French, restaurants, etc.

    Food and Dining

There are many options for places to eat depending on whether you are eating on the go, sitting down for a while, or grabbing coffee, pastries, or smoothies. I love The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf next to the library with sandwiches, amazing coffee, small selection of Greek food, and other drinks.

    Dorm Life

You are given the option to live in a certain type of dorm based on academic standing and class standing i.e freshman, sophmore, etc. You are also given the option to live in a dorm room to share or to be alone in. The gym and parking for dorm residence are very close to the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor depends on whether you are just starting out as a freshman taking your 100 & 200-level classes. The academic rigor increases once at the 400-level.

    Tips for prospective students

The professors in the Art History courses are willing to help students as needed and willing to schedule office hours when needed. For more information on a particular professor, I recommend www.ratemyprofessor.com. The student are very honest.

    In three sentences

UNLV is a large campus. The Lied Library has excellent resources such as the digital library, renewing checked out books online, and inter-library loans. The students can be either really friendly or very cliquish which can make on feel as though they belong at one moment and isolated and out-casted the next moment.

    Bang for the buck

I find what I am getting out of UNLV to be great for what I'm paying for tuition, which is around $6,000 a year. (I'm paying in state tuition.)

    What to do for fun

Well, seeing as you'd be living in Vegas, what the campus lacks in activities, can be made up in the metropolitan shopping and night life in the surrounding areas. Town Square and the Fashion Show Mall offer exceptional stores for anybody's style and The Strip contains a variety of activities for even the biggest book worms.

    Food and Dining

On a tour I went on, we were able to eat the food in the dining commons and I found the food to be quite exceptional! Also, the Student Union has quite the selection of fast food dining that fits anyone tastes.

    Dorm Life

I will not be living on campus, so I have no input on dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Since I am attending in the fall, I have not yet experienced any of the academics UNLV has to offer. But I am told that they're classes are challenging but not impossible to get an A in.

    Tips for prospective students

UNLV is a desirable place for unsure students. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in Las Vegas? Besides, the campus (if you're living on it) is very accessible to The Strip! Also, if you're looking to transfer to medical school, UNLV has one of the best pre-medical programs out there!

    In three sentences

The campus is large and well kept. The buildings have an antique quality that makes them charming. The wellness center is one of the best I've seen.

There is one big tradition where all incoming students new and old get together for free food, music, and entertainment. You meet all types of new people and get invovled. At the end of the night each grade forms the letters UNLV with candles while someone high in the sky takes the picture. It's a great moment to be a part of andyou don't want to miss it!

    What to do for fun

Check out the game rooms at the student union center or chill with friends in one of the many lounges.

    Food and Dining

The food is spectacular and is never too far away. Check out starbucks or grab a bite at subway the choice is really yours.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing!! Great space and the atmopshere is relaxing yet its still a good environment to have some fun. It's home away from home and you'll meet new people every 5 seconds!!!

    Academic Rigor

Math classes are hard and challenging by not letting you use calculators. Writing papers can be horrible but your professors always make sure you understand what they are looking for and the writing center can help revise your papers.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you sign up as soon as possible to get an academic coach. This person will be there to help guide you and answer any questions you may have. They are like your own personal cheerleader and their only intention is to help you succeed.

    In three sentences

The University of Nevada Las Vegas has very supportive staff members who are always willing to answer your questions. The signs are easy to navagate so getting from building to building or finding your next class is a piece of cake. The student union center is very imformative and a great place to learn all about what UNLV has to offer.

    What to do for fun

There are many coffee shops and restaurants located around campus. Meeting up with friends and chatting at these places can offer some quick, fun social time in between classes. On the weekend, the Las Vegas Strip is located just about 10-15 minutes away from Campus. There are movie theatres, arcades, plenty of dining options, and shows that you can choose from.

    Food and Dining

While UNLV has a variety of food options such as Panda Express, Jamba Juice, and Taco Bell, the dining commons here on campus really doesn't have the best food. I would avoid eating there unless it's a last resort option.

    Dorm Life

There are a few options for dorm locations here at UNLV, the largest being Tonopah. Each dorm has floor events and an RA assigned to it. Feel free to ask them any questions.

The general ed professors at the school are challenging and helpful. Definitely check out the ratings for professors before taking a class. It is hard to talk about each professor because every department is different.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There isn't much to do there for fun so to say. However there are groups such as frats and sororities that you can join as well as a full time gym, Pilates classes, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts as well as a pool :)

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is amazing. From Metro pizza, Panda, Starbucks, Taco Bell, Jamba Juice and burgers. It doesn't really get much better than that :) PLUS! They have a snack room next to Jamba Juice and you can get those late night studying munchies like: chips, candy bars, drinks, shakes, gum and ramen noodles.

    Dorm Life

I personally don't live in the dorms however I do have friends that do. They love it and the one thing everyone is worried about is their room mate. What I can say is that at UNLV they are very lenient and flexible if you already have a friend you want to room with or if you want to change. As far as I know, none of my friends have changed room mates and everyone gets along really well :)

    Academic Rigor

It's hard if you don't put effort into the work or study material given. If you are a hard worker and know how to study and take good notes, you will find your college experience a fun one rather than a frustrating one.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material. Sometimes you will get professors that teach the material well, and others not so much. If you need more assistance however, the students are more than willing to have study sessions and the professors have office hours for help as well. Work hard, study, have fun and you'll do just fine.

    In three sentences

Currently a freshman at UNLV. Students and faculty are very friendly and more than willing to help you. I love the feel of being independent and this college definitely gives you that experience in an enjoyable way:)

    What to do for fun

There's always things to do. There's always a party going on or a game to go to some don't worry about being bored.

    Food and Dining

If you live on campus you will get sick of the food before mid-terms. Make friends that live at home so you have other options and you won't go broke.

    Dorm Life

The people that live in the dorms are super friendly. It's a good experience to live on campus so you get the whole college experience. Plus you have somewhere to take a nap in between classes.

    Academic Rigor

    If you're focused, you'll pass.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus to see if you like it. Check out the basketball games to see what to expect for when you come!

    In three sentences

I can't complain about UNLV so far. There's always things to do but nothing that will distract you from your education. It's overall pretty cheap compared to other 4 year universities.

The nursing program implemented differential tuition, so my financial aid won't even cover all of my tuition.

    What to do for fun

    I read my textbooks.

    Food and Dining

They have many food options on campus, but there aren't as many on the north side of campus.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The accelerated BSN program is very challenging and demands almost all of my time.

    Tips for prospective students

Find the academic success center first and they can help you navigate everything you need to do to get enrolled. Otherwise you end up getting sent all over campus by work-study students who don't know or care what they are doing.

    Campus Safety

They do have UNLV police cars (sometimes on campus walkways). The worst I've heard so far is a bicycle getting stolen.

Great for these types of students

Students interested in research, hotel management, or business.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The main walk near the library can either be great or horrible, depending on who's clogging it up. Sometimes, a crowd means free stuff, other times it means lots of people trying to sell or hand you stuff.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition price is what drew me in. Where the school I transferred from started at $20,000 per year (minus room and board), UNLV starts at about half of that (for residents), and residency only requires a one year stay.

    What to do for fun

It depends on what you call fun, but it's Vegas. You'll find something.

    Food and Dining

The Student Union and other food areas on campus are decent, with options such as Panda Express, Subway, Greens to Go, etc. The campus is also surrounded by a good variety of food such as a pita place, Smash Burger, various ethnic and fast food places.

    Dorm Life

    I lived off campus.

    Academic Rigor

Many professors are only part-time professors, some are current graduate students. Keep ratemyprofessor.com handy at all times.

    Tips for prospective students

Check accreditations before applying. Although UNLV offers many programs, some are not accredited (i.e. Library Science) and will not lead to a career in that field.

    In three sentences

UNLV is a reasonably diverse institution, but some aspects of the experience are lacking. They are primarily research-focused, which means that most degrees are catered toward labs, mathematics, and other research-related matters. UNLV is a great starter school, but if you are looking for an intellectual challenge or a flashy certificate, you may wish to look elsewhere.

I was amazed at how helpful and friendly the staff and students were. It's a very positive environment. Do visit the campus during the summer, heat can be overwhelming, but manageable. oh and visit the department you are interested in.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining offers such a delicious variety. With a buffet style meal in the commons dining area, there are so many succulent options to choose from. If anyone is used to fast food, the Student Union has great fast food restaurants.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life here is simply entertaining. With an intimate space inside rooms and showers shared only amongst four students, it is almost like home. Living on campus is a great way to get to classes on time and engage with fellow students.

Overall, I felt safe walking alone at night at UNLV.

Great for these types of students

Great for students that love tailgates and don't care if their football team wins or loses. Also great if you are interested in the nightlife and entertainment industry that the Las Vegas strip has to offer.

    What to do for fun

Go to clubs and other night life on Las Vegas strip; not a whole lot of bars. The mountains are not far ad neither is Red Rock; great opportunities for hiking!

    Food and Dining

    It's alright, but not fantastic.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are good. Share a room with a roommate and a bathroom with two suite mates.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on your area of study. Mine happened to be a bootcamp where I learned a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Join a club, go to UNLV premiere night the first week of school, or go greek if you are looking to meet people! Not much of a college feel at UNLV because there are so many students and most commute to work. If out of state, stay in dorm first year while you search Las Vegas area for an apartment. You WILL need a car to get around Vegas area.

    In three sentences

Great school, but very large commuter school. Classes range in size depending on major; core classes are lecture hall style. UNLV has a great nursing and law school program if that is what you are interested in.

    Bang for the buck

In-state tuition is GREAT, but the cost for out-of-state students is very high in comparison.

    What to do for fun

Myself being an architecture major, I spend most of my fun-time int eh Architecture Studies Library. They don't monitor your computer habits (like in Lied) so you could easily spend hours watching movies on YouTube. Also, they have a Lego/block area and a bunch of couches-perfect for a nap!

    Food and Dining

UNLV has a wide variety of food to choose from, my favorite being Metro Pizza in the student union. It's made fresh (you can watch!) and it relatively inexpensive for the penny scraping college student. Aside from that there there's the a sushi place, Subway, Taco Bell, and the Dining Commons. The only bad thing about the Dining Commons is it REALLY matters the day you go there. Sometimes the food will be exquisite, other burnt to a crisp.

    Dorm Life

While I don't live in the dorms, I've walked past them on almost a daily basis. Although not centrally located on the campus, they are pretty close to the Student Union and all the food and activities. Plus, you're about a block away from the strip, so if you stay on campus, you can have a great party life outside of school.

    Academic Rigor

UNLV's academic rigor really depends on the classes. I've had teachers who are super strict about what you do, when you do it and how its done. However, I've also had the teacher that really doesn't care if you come to classes at all. With UNLV you've really got to put the pressure on yourself to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

For any incoming students, I would definitely suggest that when you enroll you pay big attention to the location of your classes. Try to find ones that are close to each other... Those long blistering heat waves become killer and even though there are filtered-water hydration station located all over, it can be rough to bolt in 110 degree heat. Not to mention Vegas's bipolar freezing winters and the wind!

    In three sentences

UNLV, despite being on the surface of the sun, is really fantastic to it's students. There's always something fun going on whether it be bouncy house, or a ton of food trucks competing for your service. There's also helpful booths with water (yay!) planners, coffee, and friendly faces to help answer your questions- perfect for if you get lost!

Professors are knowledgeable and their exams require a lot of studying and dedication to get a good grade.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not party too hard on your freshman year. It will bite you back later.

    In three sentences

The university provides great scholarship opportunities. The education is great. The institution is located in a big city, so there's always something to do in your free time.
