There's almost always an event or some kind of gathering on campus, there are fliers in many of the buildings, and just walking downtown and checking out the river is always a default if you get really bored.

Ski!! Or snowboard, whichever you prefer. There are hella ski resorts super close to campus, and they usually offer awesome college season passes that you can get with your Wolf Card. In the summer, beautiful Lake Tahoe is less than 40 minutes away for swimming, hiking, biking, and kayaking. The Truckee River also goes through Reno, and everyone loves to get drunk and float down it. Reno also has awesome nightlife - the casinos are always open and they're pretty much the only place that actually cares if you're 21; the rest of the bars are pretty lenient when it comes to fake ID's. And people love to party here - there's always something going on.

In the winter you are less then an hour away from five ski resorts. When the weather gets nice you can enjoy the Truckee River, midtown or downtown. The music scene is wonderful and being in Nevada everything is open all night.

There's actually a lot of fun things to do in Reno. Lake Tahoe is only a 45 minute drive away so it is always fun to either go up there to snowboard/ski or to lay on the beach and hang out with friends. Even though Reno is known for the casinos, there are a lot of things that college students can do that don't involve being downtown or near a casino.
