Tips for prospective students Watch the housing and make sure you get everything you can from the advisors because a lot of the courseload can be tricky depeding on your major. Also try and get as much financial aid possible, it's an expensive school that will inevitably take care of you if you are willing to work diiligently.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Science or health majors, those who want smaller class sizes, suburb dwellers,beach people, people who don't mind snow & wind-chill.
Tips for prospective students Watch out for housing, new dorms are being added but it is still pretty tight. Seniors must live off campus, and sometimes students still are put on waiting lists for housing. If you're a marine biology student, like me, don't count on being able to work at the Marine Science Center because a lot of kids want to work there and there is limited availability.
Bang for the buck It's true that this school is pricey, but there are scholarships available. The teachers are usually of high quality, the food is pretty good, the dorms are liveable, and it's an all-around good school.
Am enjoying being here There is an extracurricular activity for every major, athlete, or interest. If there is something that isn't offered that you want, the college is open to new ideas and programs. We are also 10-15 minutes away from shopping centers and a 5 minute walk from the beach.
Am learning a lot The classes are usually about the size of high school classrooms, the teachers will know your name and will make sure you know of office hours. Don't be surprised if they give you their home phone number!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is for students who have an interest in medical fields or marine biology. If you work hard as a student, your hard work will pay off here, and you will not be just another number in the crowd.
Tips for prospective students If you want to go to a school that is focused on the success of each and every student, UNE is a great place to be. You have to find a school that fits you. If you love the outdoors, the campus is beautiful. It is on the bank of the Saco River where it meets the Atlantic. I fish about 100 yds from my dorm! I would recommend that anyone whose academic interests meet what the school has to offer, come to the school and meet with the helpful and friendly staff and enjoy the sights of the campus.
Bang for the buck Although private colleges do cost more than state schools, the benefits are enormous. First of all, as I said, the classes are very small and personal. No huge lecture halls. The classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants. I have a friend who attends a state school. She has to pay for her laundry services, I don't. And when we were comparing notes regarding the whole application and enrollment process, UNE was very communicative every step of the way. The state school doesn't seem to take the personal interest in each student that UNE does. In addition, as a reward for not bringing a car on campus, I received a brand new bike. UNE is helping the environment with this incentive. I love biking around campus and exploring the area.
Am enjoying being here From day one, the welcome committee, made me feel like I belonged here. The students are very friendly and helpful. My roommate and I get along like we've been best friends for life. There is always something going on on the campus and now when I go home to visit, I can't wait to get back to school! There are lots of clubs and activities.
Am learning a lot Like every new school year, I was a little nervous about what the classes would be like in college. At UNE, the class sizes are small, much like high school. The work is challenging, yet not daunting. I have great relationships with my professors, who all make themselves easily accessible in case I need to reach them. I am enrolled in the pre-physicians assistant program and I am proud to report I have made the Dean's list for the first semester.

Tips for prospective students Make sure you study no matter what, if you like to party that's fine, just keep your grades up.
Bang for the buck You definitely get your money's worth. It makes you study hard and work hard. Every one's money goes for something better within the college, and the classes for you. We have the LAC, which if you need tutoring you can go there. They have almost all subjects there. There is the fitness center, Starbucks coffee, multicultural lounge, festivities, the poo, an athletics center, the marine science center, the medical building, and free printing.
Am enjoying being here I really love it here, everyone is so nice and friendly, plus there is something to do every weekend in the campus center. There are many things on sale at the local box office, with major student discounts. There is plenty of school spirit on campus, and security. No, not security as in police, I mean as in you feel safe. It is an expanding campus, but its character is held by its staff and faculty.
Am learning a lot The courses are designed to challenge you to every extent. Teachers use up the time they have to teach you new and exciting things, sometimes they do go over. The classes here do help you thrive in the real world, especially with getting job in your field or going to graduate school.

Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit and if possible visit with your department chair. Spending time with someone in your prospective department really gives you a chance to see what's going on and what is expected of you as a student. Also if you are interested in doing research meet with a professor who is working on something you may want to help with.
Bang for the buck The school is relatively expensive but a lot of people are offered scholarships, mostly for high school academics that are set up for four years. Being able to do research as an undergrad is really the biggest benefit to coming to this school. Sometimes some of the administrative decisions are not the best but the education is really what it's all about.
Am enjoying being here The location of the campus is very enjoyable, you can't beat being on the beach. All lot of the time there are activities put on by clubs or sports games to attend. The housing situation is decent, at least once you get out of the freshman dorms. The biggest problem is the dining hall, there are not a lot of options and the food is usually not the best.
Am learning a lot Classes are usually small, even entry level courses. The small size allows for personalized attention from teachers and makes it easier to approach your professors for help. The required institutional courses allow for a more rounded education and gives you a chance to experience great classes that you never would have tried. Also there are lots of chances to do research as an undergraduate student, giving you real life experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is definitely for those students that want to get involved with over 100 different clubs and many opportunities to start new ones that interest you. The school is very open to the students and willing to take ideas and turn them into a reality. The school is very willing to help with classes but, like any college it is on the student to push to succeed, there are no free rides here.
Tips for prospective students Keep informed, ask a lot of questions. Even if you think there isn't enough money to attend keep in contact with the financial office here at UNE. There are always options. The campus and school is very specific, by this I mean you either love it or you hate it. The campus is beautiful and the students are very trusting and welcoming.
Bang for the buck Although the cost is more than many of us can afford, the campus life, the classes, the professors, and the help are all worth the cash.
Am enjoying being here The campus is amazing! The view is beautiful. The campus sits on a variaty of beaches which are available for student use, and is directly on the Saco River. The campus center has a lot of programs to keep you entertained on the weekends. The campus is involved in the sport programs and there are great classes like Zumba and kick boxing available at no cost.
Am learning a lot The school has a program called the LAC which is the learning assistance center and it is of great help. The professors are always willing to make a meeting but for that extra boost to your grade the LAC is there for tutoring, paper editing and any type of academic help you can ask for.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Science majors, ocean lovers, people that want to be in a friendly and safe community, but close to shops and city life.
Tips for prospective students Start planning early. Apply for as many scholarships as you can, and come visit the campus at least once on your own BEFORE accepted students day. Meet with a teacher from your desired major and ask current students what they think of the school while you're there.
Bang for the buck Scholarships are available, and the money is spent very well. Definitely worth it if you plan ahead and apply for the scholarships. If you're willing to work, UNE will be there to help you get to wherever it is that you want to go.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, and there is always something to do on or off campus. I'm a commuter, but I've always got a place to go. Everyone is very friendly.
Am learning a lot I've only completed the semester 1 course work of freshman year, but the first year is almost entirely review. The classes are well taught, but don't get used to teachers explaining every little thing. Most classes require you to actually read the chapter in the book that correlates with their lesson in order to do well on an exam.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone. This campus has a ton of different people, to the very studious type to people who tend to want to have more of a good time. Science majors mostly attend this school, but we do have a few art and English majors as well.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get as much help as you can with finding financial aid. The school is willing to help with quite a bit too, so make sure you apply for scholarships from the school.
Bang for the buck Although the school is a bit pricey, it is worth it, the teachers are great and are always willing to help, whether it be with homework or with something non school related.
Am enjoying being here I love being here! The campus is just the right size, not too small, but not too big. Its a beautiful campus too. There is the beach right on campus that you could take a walk on if you are having a bad day or just want to enjoy the scenery. There is also local Biddeford pool, and Downtown Biddeford where they are places to shop. Portlands also only about 30 minutes away.
Am learning a lot Whether it be inside the classroom or out, there is always someway to learn. Even extra curricular activities help you learn, like the Ocean Club, and MARC.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who can live on campus and do not WANT a car. Students who have money to throw around. Better for the younger students right out of high school.. not for students who are older and feel better living off campus (Unless its close enough to walk)
Tips for prospective students Do not enter this school during spring.. there are no classes left and even if you do sign up for this school months ahead of time they will not allow you to sign up for classes or fix what you do have until the day before classes. I ended up in BIO 2 and all higher classes without having any BIO1s college lvs (same for the other higher class). Also plan to spend a lot of money.
Bang for the buck For students who are driving a hour plus to go to this school their bill should cover parking and not charging students 90.00 bucks on top of everything else and if you can not get the permit right away you will be fined 100.00 each day. The bus trip for free parking adds an extra 40 mins onto my drive so that doesn't make coming to this school any easier
Am enjoying being here hate to say it but with how much they are charging they offer little

Tips for prospective students Ask for more money in your aid packet they will usually try to find it especially if your a strong student.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth the education and contacts that I made. I was able to travel to another country to study corals in their natural habitat, go to international research conferences to present research, and act at the local theater with UNE's theater group. However UNE can be stingy on financial aid.
Did enjoy being here The setting is gorgeous! My favorite time of day was breakfast in the upper cafe mostly because not many people were up yet and it over looks the water. In the winter time with the snow and some ice coating the water its like a Norman Rockwell painting,
Did learn a lot I had many great teachers in three years that I spent here upon transferring. Some of the classes I got to take like gross anatomy are not often offered to undergraduate students, but they are here due to the medical school. I also had the opportunity to take classes outside my major like the art requirement that allowed me to explore my interests more in depth.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Blue lights and security are around at all times of the day. This is definitely the safest campus I visited on my college tours, and I have never once felt threatened at my time here.
Greek Life No Greek Life that I'm aware of.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs ranging from knitting to rugby. Anything you can think of, you can find here at the University of New England.
Great for these types of students Students interested in the health and science fields, especially in Osteopathic Medicine should definitely keep the University of New England in the back of their minds. As a Neuroscience major, I also find that the Psychology Department is one of the best around, as well as Marine Biology.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The University of New England is located right on the Saco River which opens down the street into the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches, points, and docks are all great places that are unique to our school.
Bang for the buck Tuition just increased, but I think as a private college where you're getting a great education, the price is fair. The school offers great financial packages, but room and board prices are a little high.
What to do for fun Attend the events! Whether it be a sporting event, or an event put on by the Activities Programming Board, Resident Student Life Association, or any of the other clubs and groups including Outdoor Recreation, get out there and be active! There is always something to do to keep yourself busy.
Food and Dining Sodexo does a fantastic job supply food for the University of New England. We have multiple choices for meals every day, and they even offer multiple places on campus to eat.
Dorm Life Dorms are comfortable and welcoming. Everyone is really friendly, and it is easy to make friends. The quality of the dorms are fantastic.
Academic Rigor Classes are small, and focused. Professors challenge you as a student here at the University of New England. They push you to do your best.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of all the resources offered to you, they really help!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus security is amazing at UNE. The are always around if you need help, and just a phone call away.
Clubs and Activities There are so many great clubs for students at UNE.
Bang for the buck The new facility will will definitely be upping the bang for your buck. All of the students are excited to get to use the new gym, really making it a plus at the school.
What to do for fun There are so many clubs to get involved with. Also if you do not want to play on a sports team there are a lot of intramurals. Plus there are always interesting shows and activities around campus.
Food and Dining For the most part the food is good. Especially the pizza.
Dorm Life Everyone working in the dorms are very helpful, and it is a great living space.
Academic Rigor Challenging, but that is what college is for. It is a learning based college.
Tips for prospective students Use your teachers as an advantage. They are there to help you, so do not be afraid to ask them for help when you need it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun there not that much fun things to do here during the weekend. school would sponsor some fun events such as, movie night on sundays, bingo, dances or other fun events the students organize.
Food and Dining food is not that bad. there is a variety to choose from. there is also vegetarian selection, great salad bar and there are also two different dining places to go but it is usually food that you have to pay but students get meal plans and flex dollars, which are consider like real money but in a card. they also have a great smoothie bar and they also serve starbucks coffee which is located downstairs the library for late night studying.
Dorm Life residence hall are old from the 60's but the school are making new residence hall. the room is usually shared by two or three roommates depending on the student when they apply.
Academic Rigor school offers a lot of courses and you're adviser will help you through the beginning and recommend which classes to take for your major. adviser are so helpful and they will help through all four years, which is great so you won't ever be lost.
Tips for prospective students most students are science based majors. if you are thinking in going into the health profession or interested in studying science then this your school to look at. professors are great here but you have to put your effort and hard work into it.
In three sentences school is great. classes are usually small. food is not that bad.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The area is very safe and secluded from the town. Campus security patrols all night and there are call boxes all over campus. There is also a Safe Ride van that will pick you up and bring you anywhere you want to go on campus if you don't want to walk around in the dark. The campus isn't very well lit at night but UNE is in Maine so you'll be safe regardless of the dark.
Greek Life No Greek life here!
Clubs and Activities The only clubs there are are mostly attached to your major (Nursing Club, Pharmacy Club, etc). There are lots of club sports and intramural sports for those of you who don't have the time for the varsity sports teams.
Great for these types of students If you're going into the medical field this is a great school. UNE definitely caters to its health professions students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Right on the beach. Bon fires all the time when the weather is warm.
Bang for the buck Most of the facilities are sub par. The food isn't great and there isn't a ton to do on campus but if you're in it for the academic rigor then your getting 5 out of 5 stars.
What to do for fun There aren't very many clubs, most clubs are associated with your major. The campus is right on the beach so it's awesome in the warmer months. Great walking/ bike riding trails and lots of work out classes to take at the campus center.
Food and Dining Limited food options. Not a ton of fresh fruits or veggies available. People with dietary restrictions such as lactose intolerance or Celiac's Disease will have trouble finding something to eat in the dining hall.
Dorm Life Freshman year you live in a typical college dorm, bunk beds and all. But after that you live in upperclassman suites which are AMAZING.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major and the number of classes you take you could be pulling out your hair during midterm and finals weeks.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus. Talk to current students in your intended major. UNE isn't for everyone.
In three sentences UNE is a great school to attend if you are serious about your academics. There aren't a ton of extracurriculars because there is so much focus on academics. The coursework can be demanding at times.

In three sentences University of New England is an excellent small private college that specializes in health care majors. Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is ridiculously good at their jobs. I have security's number in my phone and if I need them for any reason, they are there within minutes. Every time our school newspaper comes out we see a security blotter. The most serious problem we have is that someone fell off of their skateboard. The campus is so secure that any student can walk around by themselves without being worried, any time of day or night.
Greek Life We do not currently have any fraternities or sororities.
Clubs and Activities I don't think I could name our full club selection. We have the Activities Programming Board, Scuba club, Surf club, Longboarding club, Fitness club, Habitat for Humanities, Intramural sports, Cultural group, Volunteer opportunities, Student Government, Gardening club, Four-Square club (Tri-state champions), UNE PLayers (Our theater/drama club) and not to mention every club derived from majors (Pharmacy club, Dentistry Club, Chemistry Club...)
Great for these types of students This school is great for someone who is looking for a small to medium size school. Walking across campus you are likely to know/recognize 10 out of 15 faces. Students who are very serious about their learning would fit in here very well. Our study rooms in our residency halls and our library seats are always filled.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We do have our own private beach. And I literally mean beach, not the grassy knoll by the sea. We also have a very supportive network for students of different cultures and sexuality. We have a drag ball where a lot of students, homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual and transgendered all participate with a prize for the best drag. There are many different programs; lectures, shows, movie nights, dances and get-togethers focused on culture and acceptance.
Bang for the buck I absolutely love my school and wouldn't want to leave, but they are very expensive if you don't have governmental or scholarship help. Having to make the choice over again, I would choose my current state. The living conditions, atmosphere, attention from your professors, academic challenge and programs available make it all worth it for me.
What to do for fun We have scheduled events such as bingo, musical and entertainment performers, lecturers and so on, every week. We also have large events about every two months. At these events we give away thousands of prizes and free stuff and have things like exotic animals, mechanical bulls and massage therapists. We also have a spring concert (some recent performers were Cartel, Sammy Adams, Ying-Yang Twins and Hanson). Off campus, the (GORGEOUS) Biddeford City Theater provides musicals and movie screenings. During the nicer weather we have the on-campus beach or Old Orchard Beach with plenty of mini golf and an extensive ropes course. Trust me, there is always something to do.
Food and Dining Unfortunately, there aren't many options when it comes to different dining halls. We have an all-you-can-eat cafeteria that offers a range in ethnic, southern and home-cooking; with always available burgers, pizza and sandwiches. They also are making larger strides with their vegetarian/vegan and special needs diets. We have three other dining sites on campus. One has a Panera Bread-like feel with soups, salads, frozen yogurt and Starbucks. Another is like fast food. It has burgers, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks etc. The third will make you your own salad or sandwich and has two choices of a to-go meal, already prepared. We also have Flex-dollars. We can use these like a debit card at some local restaurants (Panera Bread, China House, Thai Me, Papa Johns etc.)
Dorm Life Once you get involved in sports or clubs, or just read the posters around campus, you can discover such a wide range of things to do around the Biddeford area or on-site. The freshman dorms are fairly good compared to many freshman dorms in other schools. The upper-class dorms are incredible. We have suites with little kitchenettes, our own bathrooms and a common space with couches and furniture. I would strongly advise any student to live on this campus.
Academic Rigor The University of New England offers very rigorous courses dependent on the student's major. Our chemistry program is fairly intensive, comparable to chemical engineer programs. But the school also offers fun classes where the focus is learning, not necessarily the grades.
Tips for prospective students This school is great for someone who is really looking to focus on their studies. As the Large Events Coordinator for the Activities Programming Board, I can tell you that there are thousands of things to do for fun that we organize, but the campus is generally calm. We have great exercise programs, such as free kickboxing, zumba, dancing, weight-training classes and more. But we are a very studies-focused community.
In three sentences University of New England has a small community feel with a lot of individual attention from professors. This school offers a lot of opportunity for personal growth and community wellness. The campus is on the coast and is absolutely beautiful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is EXTREMELY safe, and I say this as a former Resident Advisor. The University publishes a crime log every year that is viewable to anyone, and by and large the only 'crimes' committed on campus are those related to alcohol abuses. The campus is located in a quiet, residential area and reflects that environment for the most part, unless a residence hall is hosting a rowdy party, but RA's and Security are efficient at breaking those up.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life at UNE.
Clubs and Activities The Student Government is effective at speaking for the students and has a solid relationship with the administration. The Activities Planning Boards puts on several can't-miss events throughout the school year that have become tradition including the Lock-In and the Spring Concert. The UNE Players has also put on several memorable plays and performs at the downtown City Theatre regularly in Biddeford. There are also a variety of academic clubs that are instrumental in putting on a variety of events relative to one's major including taking trips off-campus and inviting distinguished lecturers to campus.
Great for these types of students UNE is great for students that are invested in their education, but still want to relax and meet great people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Freddy beach is a common hangout on campus. Sokokis Hall has a pond that has a spouting fountain in the warmer months and can be ice skated on in the cooler months. The Spring Concert is one of the most popular events of the school year, and has featured bands such as Hanson, the Ying Yang Twins and Cartel.
Bang for the buck UNE is expensive, but the experience is definitely worth it. The people are amazing, from the fellow students to the faculty. The university is also undergoing a physical transformation, building more residence halls, academic halls and sports facilities. The university also offers a semester-long study abroad program in Seville, Spain that is paid for by financial aid, which really can't be beat! There are also plenty of other travel-abroad opportunities incorporated into coursework to take advantage of.

Food and Dining To be honest, the food in the cafeteria wasn't that special while I was a residential student. I've heard its gotten a lot better, taste wise and that it has also expanded its menu to incorporate the preferences of vegans/vegetarians. The Windward Cafe offers great options akin to sandwiches and wraps and smoothies, and also includes a Starbucks. The Hang has fried/grilled food. The meal plan includes 'flex dollars' that can be used at food locations on campus other than the dining hall, as well as Noreaster dollars, which is money that can be used at a variety of businesses around Biddeford.
Dorm Life Residence Halls are a great place to live. The Housing Office undergoes a thorough process in hiring RA's that are compassionate and committed to providing a positive living experience to residential students. The freshman living area consists of standard dorm rooms that hold up to three students and a bathroom/shower area on each floor. The sophomore and junior areas consist of very new buildings that provide a suite-style living experience, where each suite includes a bathroom, living room and kitchenette. Although UNE is exclusively a 'chem-free' campus, it is not uncommon to hear parties or smell marijuana wafting into the halls on the weekend, but most RA's are good at dispelling these issues. Many students go off-campus to beach houses to get their party fix and avoid being documented by the university.
Academic Rigor It's not hard to be a student at UNE. The workload varies depending on how rigorous your major is and how much effort you put into your studies.
Tips for prospective students Don't count UNE out due to it's location (Maine), or the fact that its small. The faculty and campus in general has a lot to offer, but what you get out of it all depends on how much you work for it.

Greek Life there is no greek life whatsoever here.
Clubs and Activities depending on what clubs you join there can be lots of activity and involvement or none whatsoever. I joined sailing club and did some volunteer work and there was no participation whatsoever, but you do need to realize that this is a small school and with a small school there are not as many choices as there would be otherwise. The clubs and activities that do well have to do with sports and some academic clubs like pre-pharmacy or pre-med club.
Great for these types of students It's a great school for kids who want to go into the health professions and are very serious about school. Also it is good for sports players.
Bang for the buck You do not get what you pay for, the tuition just went up to 48,000 and although they give out a ton of financial aid, the school itself is definitely not worth what they are charging kids to go there.
What to do for fun There is not really much to do for fun here unless you like nature, sports or just plain hanging out with people. The school is secluded and Portland is about 30 minutes away, so unless you have a car you're not going anywhere. There are not really any places around the school to go to on the weekends, so people usually just end up finding someone with car and staying friends with them.
Food and Dining The food at UNE is awful, if anything since I have my car I usually go off campus to eat.
Dorm Life The dorm life is a ton of fun, you get to know all the kids on your floor and they end up becoming some of your closest friends. I advise you to live on campus if you can, but try to get a double or a single because triples never work out the way they are planned to.. it will always be two against one no matter what.
Academic Rigor The courses are dependent on what your major is. Some classes are very hard, while others take little effort whatsoever. But overall you will be doing a lot of homework and reading because its college
Tips for prospective students You will learn very quickly if youre a city person or not. If you want a small school where you are going to see people you know all the time then this is the school for you. Also this school is definitely not a party school, if you come here the only thing you will be doing is school work and hanging out in your dorm room.

What to do for fun UNE spends LOADS of money on weekly entertainment. They often have a great Spring Concert, and continuously put on events every night and especially on weekends.
Food and Dining The food is definitely the downfall of UNE. Decary Dining Hall is not the greatest; however, if you're a salad eater or am not a picky eater then you will be fine. The cafe's on campus (Alfond, Windward, & The Hang) are very good and often have great meals to supplement the horrible dining experience.
Dorm Life First and second year residency on campus is required; but due to increasing student population more and more students have been allowed to live off campus in apartments and beach houses during their third and forth year. The first year experience in the quad buildings is required and it makes for a very fun and interesting year. THe suites for upperclassmen are beautiful and new. All come with furniture and all have a living room, a full or twin size bed, a kitchen (no stove), a fridge, microwave, and sink, and a full bathroom.
Academic Rigor UNE's health sciences programs are very rigorious. You will need to prioritize your workload accordingly and you must be prepared for weekly quizzes and exams.
Tips for prospective students Be yourself and branch out. Remember, everyone is in the same boat you are and everyone is looking to make new friends. The University of New England prides itself on its students being very well rounded and personable individuals. Be polite, respectful, and kind and you will see that the majority of individuals attending UNE will do the same.
In three sentences The University of New England is beautifully placed in the Biddeford-Saco coastal area of Southern Maine. The professors are extremely personable and really want to see you succeed. Class sizes are relatively small, which provides for a very comfortable learning environment.

What to do for fun During the weekends the school offers different activities for students. You can go sailing, kayaking, skiing. There are also movie nights and Catching Up With Kate.
Food and Dining I think the food is good and they always give different options. There are a lot of yummy desserts in Decary and they give great smoothies in Winward cafe.
Dorm Life The rooms are small, especially if you share a dorm with two other people but they are livable and you get to meet a lot of people.
Academic Rigor There are many classes that students can take. Some are harder than others but they teach you many important things.

What to do for fun Portland is 20 minutes away and the beach is nice when it's warm but there aren't many activities at convenient times and a lot of people go home on weekends.
Food and Dining Decary dinning hall food is not so good but the other places for food are good and you have money on your ID to buy the good food.
Dorm Life The old freshman dorms are so old and tiny it's hard to be comfortable, the parking is far from the dorms and the freshman showers are tiny and dirty. The upper classmen housing is a lot nicer but doesn't have air conditioning and sokokis has an ant problem.
Academic Rigor I felt well prepared after high school but it does require a lot more studying especially in the sciences.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security and safely at UNE is a priority. It's obvious all around the campus and yet you don't feel overwhelmed by it. As a female student I feel safe and confident that UNE is watching over me.
Great for these types of students UNE is great for any type of student- it's simply that wonderful of a University. Being an older student finishing my degree, I am finding that it's a wonderful school for me. The freshmen are still 18 yrs old, but I don't stick out here as I would elsewhere and the profs are dedicated to teaching ALL of us equally.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Thinking Spot- a wonderful little gazebo out on the point to study, eat lunch or just think. It's fantastic to gaze out at the bay and have the warm sunshine bathe you as your sit there.
Bang for the buck UNE is not the cheapest school in Maine- but if you are a Bio major this is the place to be and still stay in Maine. It's a great investment for the serious student who wants to continue to graduate school.
What to do for fun Being on the coast of Maine there is an endless array of fun and exciting things to do. Kayaking, sailing, sunbathing, hiking, biking and cruising- and that's just to get some exercise. With Portland only 20 minutes away there's dancing and shopping only a quick hop away. AND on Campus there are dozens of clubs to be a part of and there is the opportunity to create your own club if you don't see your interest already formed as a club.
Food and Dining Quick and satisfying, the food offerings are all over the campus. If it's a snack or a filling meal, it can be found. Warm or cold, health food craze or dripping with calories and cheese, it can be found. Fantastic and well priced, it is one of the best offerings I have seen on any campus.
Dorm Life I commute to class on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week, but the dorms are wonderfully clean and remind me more of an apartment setting as apposed to a shoebox college dorm.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major the level of difficulty would range; however this is a university that will test your commitment to learning. You must dedicate yourself to learning everything that is being offered to you in your classes or it's pointless to be at UNE with all the great classes it's offering.
Tips for prospective students 1. Go early and tour the campus. 2. Meet students, your adviser and the financial aid dept. 3. View a class in session to truly understand the level of learning.

Greek Life Unfortunately, UNE has no fraternities or sororities.
Clubs and Activities There are an endless amount of clubs and activities on campus. If you aren't interested in one, you can create your own with just one other person interested and one staff member acting as an adviser.

Greek Life We do not have Fraternities or Sororities at UNE.
Clubs and Activities They have so many clubs that you can join here, we even have a day at the beginning of the semester that you can go and look at what all of the different clubs are and what they have to offer. Everyone goes outside and just gets to talk and gets free things and signs up for what clubs they thing they want to join. I joined the Scuba club, Ride24/7 (ski and snowboarding), Orientation leader, and one for my major which is PT
Great for these types of students Those who like to learn and are actively engaged in their education. Social, fun loving and definitely funny people will fit in WONDERFULLY here. Everyone of my friends here loves to joke and just have a good time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When ever we have dances, there are TONS of line dances that we do here at UNE. The Wobble is a definite favorite here, we love to dance and have a great time. On our floor we always go into the lounge once a week and we have snacks and watch chick flicks and just have a good time to relieve stress from all of the work that we have been stressing over the past week.
Bang for the buck I personally feel it is a bit expensive for what we are getting in terms of room and board. Especially because the board is not very good most of the time. Overall I believe it is worth it to attend here even though it is a bit pricy you get a great education and it is totally worth it.
What to do for fun There are so many activities on campus every weekend that a ton of people attend. Just last weekend they had a bingo night where they gave away flat screen TV's and Wii's. It was totally free to play and you had the chance to win amazing prizes. There is also an 18 and over club in the next town over that a lot of people go to on the weekends. It is a small local club but it is a lot of fun to go with a group of your friends and dance the night away!
Food and Dining I have heard of some schools that Sodexo dining co. is really good and all of their food is fresh and tastes good. That is definitely not the case here. Most of the food made in Decary, our dining hall, is actually pretty gross. There is never much of a selection and most of it is pretty flavor less. They make really good homemade bread though!
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is a great way to meet new friends. I am so close with all of the girls on my floor, we get together all the time and go to dinner and go shopping together. They are my best friends here at UNE. The walls are kind of thin so if you are generally a loud person you may want to be careful because you can get written up for excessive noise. Some dorms that are made for 2 people get stuck with 3 people which is definitely a bit cramped but most people live in double's except in Featherman our newest dorms which are all made to be triples.
Academic Rigor The classes are tough, but if you are struggling all of the professors are extremely open to helping as much as they can. Every professor has office hours that you can go in and talk to them about the class or your grade, or if you have any questions they are more than willing to help. The classes may be challenging and you do have to put in a fair amount of effort and time but it really does pay off.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ok with eating pasta and soup most of the days of the week because those are just about the only two things at the Dining hall that are good. If you are coming here for a health profession or a marine/animal profession they are both very highly regarded programs here at UNE and I know that I will be ready to go out into the world and my career choice feeling prepared.
In three sentences There are small classes which allow each student to have one on one time with their professors and get any extra help they may need. The people are always very friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely terrible, the way the buffet is set up gives us very limited options and many of the limited options do not taste good anyways.

Greek Life THERE ARE NONE! Which is kind of a good thing Frats are just an inorganic way to make friends and make people feel like they're better than everyone.

Academic Rigor Depending on what your major is academic rigor can vary A LOT. But if you're in Med Bio, Pre Pharm or Marine Science, get ready because it's a lot of classes and a lot of work.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want to study UNE has specific programs that it thrives in and others that does not. Come in focused and get on the right track. Get as much merit award as you can because it's expensive and don't take things personally when it comes to friendships, and join a sport!

Dorm Life The freshman dorms are not the ideal situations, but there is a great spirit of camaraderie in the halls. Most people try to make the best of living in a triple and on a floor with 25 other people or so. The RA's are readily available to answer any and all questions, and they put on cool programs.
Academic Rigor The professors expect a fair amount of students - so be prepared, no matter what major, to do work. After that, it all depends on your major. Some majors are more difficult in some aspects than others. For the most part, each major has its difficulties and its easy parts.
Tips for prospective students Do not be discouraged if you do not immediately perform as well as you did in High School. College does have a learning curve. But DO NOT wait until the last minute to change things. Go to the Student Success Center, get resources from your adviser, talk with your professors. Be proactive about your learning.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The cliffs behind featherman, east and west dorms are amazing and everyone should take a walk out there.
Bang for the buck The school is extremely expensive, but as for shopping in the area there are plenty of places to bargain shop.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do, you just need to find them. There are places to go bowling, watch movies, race go-carts and rock climb. Also if you are involved in a club or two they put on events along with the ones hosted by the university.
Food and Dining Although there are a lot of places to eat on campus there is not much of a variety.
Dorm Life Dorm life could be better, there should be a better away to keep everyone connected and involved once they are no longer in the freshman dorms. Also they should pick residential advisers more carefully.
Academic Rigor Most of the teachers are amazing at what they do and the material is usually always relevant to what you need and would like to learn about.

In three sentences I am finishing up my Chemistry prerequisites at this school online. It is a great set-up for online coursework. The instructors are helpful and easily reachable.
