Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to focus on a career in research. UNH has a little of everything.
Tips for prospective students I chose UNH because I really felt like I belonged on the campus. I visited at the end of my junior year, and it really stood out from the other schools that I applied to. Plus, Holloway Commons (HoCo) serves the best food, and is currently one of the colleges with the best food. Diverse wise, it was a little below expectations, but that was why I attended the CONNECT program, which was for students of color. I got to move into school a week early, and met most of my best friends. If I hadn’t gone here, my life would have been so much different than what I expected.
Bang for the buck Varies based on whether you live out-of-state. UNH has a regional New England Program which cuts your tuition if you're majoring in something not available in your home state.
Am enjoying being here One the first night that freshmen come to school, there’s an event called “WildActs.” It’s an improv show that focuses on many aspects of college life. There’s a lot of school spirit during Basketball and football games. Also, there’s Jukebox, which brings students to learn about extracurricular activities, raffles, and IHOP gives out free pancakes, and you get a lot of free stuff. Also, there’s an annual parade where everyone, including the school’s fraternities and sororities make floats for prizes. There are endless possibilities-all you have to do is get involved. Every time you go to the MUB, they have events open to the public that are informative. Also they are big concerts near the end of the semester. I was told last year that there was a Snoop Dogg concert, and that this year Lupe Fiasco concert is going to be sold out. Sometimes, they also invite people to give lectures-I met Angela Davis during the Martin Luther King Celebration in January.
Am learning a lot Each professor is different; it really depends on which class(es) you take. If you took a lecture hall class (100-200 students) at 8 am in the morning, and you fall asleep, your teacher would remember you for that. Unless you go to their office to chat, it will be hard for them to know which kind of person you are. Unlike high school where you can have the same class every day, College gives you the luxury of having a class 2-4 times per week. Some classes require me to read & analyze articles, others look for a 6-8 page paper. For those that do neither, the classes require a total of three exams and a final exam that help/hurt your grade if you don’t study. I’m a little biased but I really like classes in the Liberal Arts field. I’m undeclared but trying to get into Sociology and Justice Studies. If I graduate with both, I can still go into Law School. My previous major, Nursing, did not give me the same opportunity, but I guess your major reflects what you’re passionate about. If you’re good at Art, Science, History, Technology, or care about animals, you have the chance to major in that field and turn it into a career.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UNH has a bunch of smaller communities inside one campus so it's great for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Trust your instincts and don't be afraid to ask for help. Make use of CFAR, and other academic resources that are free. Don't wait until the last two weeks of classes to try and salvage your grade, get help the second you start struggling.
Bang for the buck All I have to say is pic your classes based on the prof. and make use of ratemyprofessor.com, classes are the hardest when you have a professor you can't stand.
Am enjoying being here At first UNH was intimidating for me and wasn't even in my top 5 collages and yet their curriculum was just as good as all the other schools that I was looking at. The nicest thing is that UNH is small enough that you can get to where you need to be in a timely fashion and yet still big enough that you find your own niche in the society. There is always something going on at UNH, you just have to find it, the gym is open to students, along with the indoor pool and you can even ice skate at the Whittemore Center! It's such an exciting campus and before finals there is stress relief with massages (aqua and hand), an oxygen bar, and other fun things to take your mind off finals for a few hours.
Am learning a lot The classes are amazing and there is so much to choose from and UNH really tries to cater the classes so that individuals are actually interested in the classes they are attending and want to be there. For example, I'm a HUGE horse person but not a big history buff and I discovered that UNH offered a class that studied the use of the horse in history that I could take for the history requirement. You can even find work study jobs that cater to your major as well (as a pre-vet major I work in the NH State Diagnostic Lab on campus with veterinarians and get to observe interactive necropsies (animal autopsies) where the vets ask for your ideas and opinions and it's ok to say I don't know because they'll fill you in.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Honestly, UNH is great for all types of students, no matter how cliche that sounds. There are dorms at UNH which cater to particular types of students and allow them to easily find their niche. For example, there are honors dorms, art dorms, chem-free dorms, and dorms for international students. I know bio-med majors, classics majors, art majors and theatre majors who are all extremely happy with UNH.
Tips for prospective students As for prospective students, I would recommend taking a tour at UNH. The beauty of the campus is just icing on the cake, but it's worth seeing. Don't be afraid to ask about what kind of clubs and organizations are available, and once you attend UNH, don't be afraid to join them. Making friends is easy if you get involved, and it's completely worth your time.
Bang for the buck The classes at UNH are challenging and worthwhile. I know few students who regularly skip class, because classes truly are enjoyable at UNH. The level of difficulty of classes, the number of clubs and organizations and the environment at UNH makes it truly worth the money.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying attending UNH. There are so many clubs and organizations to get involved in, ranging from the College Democrats, to the Organic Gardening Club, to Greek Life, to Fencing. There is truly a niche for everyone, and there is always something going on. Aside from academics, concerts and guests are brought to UNH to perform. In December, the comedian Bo Burnham came to the Whittemore Center. The dorms are above average and although campus incidents occur, as is inevitable with a school the size of UNH, I feel safe on campus. There is a free bus for students which travels to surrounding towns such as Portsmouth, Dover and Newmarket, and the nearby train station travels throughout the northeast (Boston, Portland, etc.) Even though UNH is situated in Durham, New Hampshire, I have never felt isolated whatsoever. I enjoy the classes, I enjoy the community, and I enjoy the social aspect of UNH.
Am learning a lot All of the classes at the University of New Hampshire are unique. Some are big, some are small, and each professor has a different teaching style. There is a lot of variety, but one thing remains the same: each student is treated well, and is given the chance to absorb an incredible amount of knowledge. First semester, I took classes ranging from junior level french, to a general education requirement like Ecology and Values. Either way, I was exposed to different aspects of each subject that I didn't expect, and I was bettered by that. My Psychology class had 250 students, whereas my French class had 10. Class size depends on the subject, and before coming to UNH I thought class size was extremely important. However, the professors at the university are committed to making you feel as though you are performing your best and they are committed to teaching their students to the best of their abilities. Even in my class of 250, I can confidently say that each student felt as though they were important. Not only am I learning a lot, I enjoy going to class every day and cannot wait for next semester to begin.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who live in or near New Hampshire who are looking for a college that offers variety (if you don't know what you want to study just yet) and is large enough to meet countless friends!
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students would be to branch out! Don't be afraid to sit with some random people at dinner and strike up a conversation. Leave your door open in your dorm room, join a club! It's the best way to make friends.
Bang for the buck UNH is a bit more pricey than other state schools (especially out-of-state tuition), but I believe is worth the money. They offer fairly decent scholarships and financial aid to help lessen the costs.
Am enjoying being here I have met so many friends here at UNH. Almost everyone you meet is open and friendly, willing to be your friend. As UNH is a intermediate-sized school, it's small enough to feel more rural and homey, but large enough so that you never see all the same people just in one day.
Am learning a lot As a student who applied to many colleges, most of which were tier 4 or Ivy league, I never expected to end-up at UNH. I thought that it wouldn't be challenging enough for me, or wasn't good enough. Boy, was I WRONG! UNH offers a multitude of classes ranging from Dairy to Astrology. There are so many options, and so many great professors whom are willing to help you out in any way possible.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Who love a tight knit community, great food, and learning.
Tips for prospective students Go to study groups and use the library and Center for Academic Resources in order to help manage your class assignments. Go to as may events as possible. And have Fun!
Bang for the buck You will get your bang for your buck if you use all of the resources on campus for your learning experience. Also there are so many fun thing to do on campus covered by your activity fee, and there is always a sporting event to go to.
Am enjoying being here I love being on campus, there are so many nice people. I definitely recommend going to as many campus activities as possible to meet new people and have different experiences. You will never be bored.
Am learning a lot I am definitely learning a lot here. It may be hard at times because every professor is so different, but once you get to know your professor and once they get to know you they will do whatever it takes to help you pass their class. There are also so many opportunities to get academic help on campus that you can use.

Bang for the buck Whatever area of study you are interested in, there is a class for it. Coming from a small high school I didn't have many options but now that I am on campus I want to study everything. Housing is worth every penny. Being from the city I wanted a campus with student housing and this campus is beautiful. There is always something to do on or around campus and many opportunities to get involved with other students. UNH is always looking for ways to give back to its students and it does a great job in organizations, facilities, the gym, activities in the Memorial Union Building.
Am enjoying being here I feel at home even though I'm an hour and a half away from my house. Always something to do or get involved in. If I was to pick one word to describe UNH it would be Involved; always involved with the students, the surrounding community, and the country (whether through politics, environmental concerns, etc.).
Am learning a lot There are so many options offered to undergraduate students and every professor I have worked with has been amazing. I feel excited about what I am learning even when it has nothing to do with my major.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think UNH is great for everyone. There's such a diverse group of people that attend this university, that it's clear everyone can succeed. Students who like smaller schools can live in a small dorm or join a smaller club, or students who prefer the city can easily hop a bus or train to Portland, Portsmouth or Boston. Anyone can live happily at UNH.
Tips for prospective students Sitting in the front in large lectures and meeting with your professors for extra help regularly will definitely help you succeed academically. This may also seem repetitive, but get involved with something on campus. It's a great way to meet friends with similar interests, since it is a relatively big school. I've never heard anything negative about UNH; it's a great university with many options and opportunities.
Bang for the buck Even though I am paying out-of-state tuition, I never felt like I was wasting my money. If you take advantage of all the courses and activities UNH offers, it's worth it. Every college is expensive, but the quality of UNH exceeds many others.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely loved my first year at UNH. There is always something to do outside of your classes. I participated in a couple intramural teams, and joined several clubs. UNH offers such a variety of activities that there's something for everyone. I never had time to be homesick or bored.
Am learning a lot After completing my first year at UNH, I have learned so much both academically and mentally. All my professors have offered their time to help you succeed in the class. There are a number of resources that are always available too, like the writing and math centers.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I am a city girl, however; I feel I belong here, even though the town consists of five blocks. I find that the environment here works best for people who enjoy the outdoors or just like sitting oustide looking at all the life around them. I believe college is a time for learning and here you can get the education you need but still have the opportunities to have those fun times.
Tips for prospective students The best way to find the college that is right for you is to do your research. In addition, pick the college that you want, not what your parents want because ultimately, you will be the one that has to go there everyday for four years not your parents. I would pay attention to a few key factors when looking for colleges: the cost (however, don't be afraid because there are tons of scholarships that you can apply for), the atmosphere/environment (visit the school, sometimes the vibe the school gives you is all that you need to make that decision), and the class size (the best way to learn is from a professor that has experience in the subject he/she is teaching and when there are fewer students in the class).
Bang for the buck I am receiving little help from my family to pay for my tuition and living expenses. Even though I am out-of-state, I can still afford to come here without too many loans. They offer a great financial aid package compared to other schools in the New England area and a great education with it.
Am enjoying being here Even though UNH is situated in a small town, there is still plenty a college student can do. The school holds concerts, and comedians often come. The most recent concert was Akon. Besides the many activities available to UNH students, I find myself having fun just in my dorm. There are a variety of dorms available here, and the one I am in suits me very well. The room is quite big compared to most dorm rooms at other colleges. The school environment is clean and beautiful. The New England setting adds a great atmosphere. I really enjoy attending this college.
Am learning a lot I have had good experiences so far with most of the professors. I have found that classes with fewer students provide a better learning environment, and all my classes at UNH so far have had less than 30 students. There are plenty of opportunities to receive outside help in classes. Not only is the professor available, but there are free tutors as well. Overall I have learned a sufficient amount in each of the courses I have taken.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students studying the environment. UNH has many resources available for students studying on both land and at sea. UNH also has a great business program and a new business building is currently being built. The large number of athletic teams and clubs on campus along with the large athletic facilities make UNH a great place for students interested in physical fitness.
Tips for prospective students Try to become part of a UNH facebook group or start picking up a UNH newspaper. There is always a lot going on and you can miss out if you don't keep up on it. Also look into getting your books elsewhere. The bookstore can be expensive unless you rent.
Bang for the buck UNH is one of the more expensive state colleges. On top of tuition there are often random fees tacked onto classes on top of the price of the class. You may see a $10 fee there for Economics and a $30 fee over there for another class. UNH does however offer many resources to students for both academics and day to day activities. One of those includes a free bus service.
Am enjoying being here No matter what you enjoy doing UNH has it. There are sports clubs, music clubs, theater clubs, and a variety of degree based clubs. There are a number of physical activities to take part in from your typical sports to mountain climbing and martial arts. The downtown area and campus offer access to most of your college necessities and if you cant find what you need there are buses that can take you all throughout the seacoast along. Combine that with the train and bike rentals and you can have an adventure everyday if you want. I personally enjoy the miles of trails throughout the wood for running and hiking.
Am learning a lot Degree programs are very well balanced. Science labs try to balance lab work with field work. Forestry classes are often out in the woods and I see the Surveying class outside all of the time. I am often impressed with the work I am doing at the end of my semesters compared to my work in the beginning. After a year in the planning program I already feel like a planner and understand concepts when listening to seasoned planners. I know that when I am done at UNH I will be prepared for the working world. Many classes are offered at several different time periods so you have room to try different classes out and move your schedule around. All of my classes offer study group time before tests and all of my teachers have been willing to meet personally to go over work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety located around campus is blue light which is an emergency assistants if something is to occur. the campus police are always on the top of their game and you can also have alerts sent to your phone when instances occur. over all though, this is a very safe school.
Greek Life greek life is very popular here.
Clubs and Activities many organizations to choose from.
What to do for fun there are many activities to do ranging from clubs, sports teams, concerts, etc. there is never a day there isn't something to do.
Food and Dining unh has one of the top food services in the country and services all locally gown product. there are three main dining hall on campus and depending where your classes are or where you live; that will decide where you eat the most. each is different and some care different options throughout the day.
Dorm Life dorm life is a touchy subject. some people are lucky and get placed with a roommate that is a perfect fit, others, not so much. that aside, dorm life is eventful and they always have something going on. if you want to meet people, i recommend living in a smaller dorm since the larger dorms are harder to meet people.
Academic Rigor depending on your major this may vary. most general studies courses are moderately easy.
Tips for prospective students the campus is large so expect a lot of walking or bring a bike. there are many opportunities available so be sure to take advantage of them since most are free to students. i hope you like sports since this is a big sports school; go wildcats!
In three sentences they have a lot to offer no matter what your major or even if you are undecided. the campus has a lot of diversity and you can expect to meet a lot of different people. the campus is large and set in a quiet little town which is very proud to have the university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety great, friendly, helpful and you know they are around. emergency boxes are not far from where you are headed too.
Greek Life i am looking into it.
Clubs and Activities i am looking into dance and a sorority for next year.
Great for these types of students for students who want to get away... yet if you live in new england your away, but your still not far from home...it's a great mix.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i am a freshman and i don't know yet.
Bang for the buck no doubt a bit costly for being an out of state student yet i think it will be worth it in the overall years to come.
What to do for fun be a part of the dorm community-they challenge the others in activities. sporting events and concerts and transportation is not a problem to get to a mall nearby.
Food and Dining food is great ,fresh and available most often.
Dorm Life fun, active, and connects you to what you are interested in. i have friends in other dorms and they all have activities that want you to be a part of the dorms.
Academic Rigor the business program is a challenge, yet this is a great program that offers many avenues in business.
Tips for prospective students this is a mid size school with a small feel to it. once you know where your headed for your activities and classes you feel comfortable. great for getting exercise as you walk a lot just for classes.
In three sentences this campus is the town of durham which gives you a sense of a mid- size town. eco friendly and friendly in general. a lot of new england students that can all relate to a similar setting.

Categories Comments Campus Safety AMAZING
Food and Dining Food is always good. You can always find something to eat without thinking to much. Just let your stomach rule!
Dorm Life Lovin' the dorm life. I picked a dorm I knew wouldn't be too loud and crazy for me and it's great. There's always that one exception, but I love it.
Academic Rigor Sometimes it's hard to keep up with classes only because a lot of the teachers assign things at the same time. It's usually not too bad, though.
Tips for prospective students Don't get overwhelmed by how big the campus is. I forget how big it is a lot of the time because it doesn't feel like it at all.
In three sentences I love this school. I couldn't ask for a better place to be. The staff is all wonderful, most of the students I can easily get along with, and the landscape is beautiful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Academics: UNH is a great place for all types of students. From Business to Liberal Arts and Physical Sciences/Engineering to Life Sciences, UNH has it all. Extra: Durham is a nice little town/city. Main Street has everything you need from restaurants/bars and pharmacies to Barbers and tanning. Everybody seems to fit in somewhere. **Durham is also very close to the sea coast. Portsmouth NH is a great city that is right on the ocean that has much involvement for students
Tips for prospective students For prospective Engineering Students: Bring your A-Game because the classes are very interesting, but very challenging. There is a lot of useful and interesting material involved, but to make it all work out for you, you must stay on top of everything and have very good time management. Get involved! The university offers many clubs and student organizations and intramural sports, take advantage of them and make your years at UNH worth every penny.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, UNH is expensive, but I believe that it is definitely worth the price, I love it here!
Am enjoying being here I love UNH. The classes are great, the teaching staff is, for the most part, very helpful and the campus is beautiful. Weekends are never boring, you will always be able to find something to do. The Whittemore center is awesome for the hockey games and broom ball* and the Rec Center is great for working out, playing basketball soccer, volleyball and racquetball, dance/workout classes and any other physical training/fun. There are many student organizations/clubs on campus, so there is something for everyone! The MUB (memorial Union Building) is also great for getting involved with clubs, work, or even just meeting people. There are events going on every single day of the week, and Movies play in the theaters every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. After three semesters here at UNH, my time has been very fun, academically and socially.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I can't believe that anyone would feel unwelcome here.
Tips for prospective students This school is a state school, so it's fairly easy to get in. But don't let that fool you. It is an excellent place to learn. Also, if you decide to go, make sure to look closely at the type of community you would like to live in.
Bang for the buck It's a great place and a good school.
Am enjoying being here I always thought I would like to go to a smaller college or university, but UNH is a great place. There are communities all around you, you just have to go out and find them. There is a group for ANYTHING you want to do (that's legal). If there isn't one, I would be shocked.
Am learning a lot I know my professors. I love my classes. The classes are interesting and exciting. This school has a wide range of class types, and is generally underrated.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students at University of New Hampshire provide an extreme mix of personalities although from the point of view of an outsider the university does not look extremely diverse. The campus provides a mix of frat boys and sorority girls as well as the typical UNH partyer stereotype. There is also the hippy stereotype as well as stoners and boys on longboards. It is also not uncommon to witness people walking on tightropes tied between two trees in front of the library or girls sunbathing outside of their dorm. This may be one of the reasons to why I enjoy college as much as I do. So really, UNH fits all types of students, and everyone will be able to find a niche even if it takes a little time.
Tips for prospective students Although at the end of senior year I wanted to have another year of high school, if I could have known then that college would be this amazing I wouldn’t have been nervous about moving on. If I could talk to my high school self, I would have told her that it only gets better. I would have told myself that college is a new life with new people and you will become so close to the people you meet at school that even though they were strangers when you first met them they are now family. So don’t be nervous, and don’t be afraid to talk to anyone because everyone is just as nervous as you are. As for finding your way around, it's not as hard as it looks. I promise :)
Bang for the buck I can't lie and say I always wanted to go to UNH. Truth is what impacted my decision to go there was the money. UNH was my in-state safety school and it is a GREAT price for the education. UNH has all the fun you could want as well as a huge selection of classes which will let you try everything you want.
Am enjoying being here As cheesy as it sounds I could be happier at UNH. Durham is more of a college town than I ever could have expected, big enough that you will never be able to meet everyone who you go to school with but small enough that you can feel a camaraderie with students around you. You’re all wildcats and the football and hockey games are amazing (even if your not into sports). . It is close to Boston and Portsmouth, and has an Amtrac station on campus making traveling near or far no fuss; but even though you can basically go anywhere, I have had no desire to leave campus other than a trip or two to the mall since I arrived on campus. I also can’t lie, weekends at UNH are pretty fun. There is always something to do, and the University tries hard to provide entertainment. Even without this entertainment, UNH is known as a party school and this emerges on the weekend, where areas of campus stay awake all night. I doubt i’ll ever leave because I don’t know what I’ll do if I can’t see UNH decked out in blue and white on homecoming weekend.
Am learning a lot I am learning a ton at UNH, but I can't say it's all academic. Part of the college experience is learning how to interact with people and ways to meet new people. This is at times even more important than some classes. Even as I say this I have learned a lot in my classes. Your freshman year will help you decide what you want to keep studying and pursue, versus what you thought you wanted. The good thing about UNH is that you will probably have some small classes and will be able to talk to your teachers if you want to.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck UNH is more expensive than many state schools, but it's worth it. The career and internship fairs provide opportunities to network and look for a job or internship, although the fairs tend to focus on business majors. The school is a research school and has various projects going on at all times, especially in the alternative energy fields. The school has great opportunities on campus to earn money too, so that helps make up for the higher cost of attendance.
Am enjoying being here I spend most weekends working and not attending events, so I feel like I'm missing out on some of the college experience. But UNH has all kinds of events for all kinds of people. From concerts and movies in the student union to dances and comedians. The hockey games are huge events as are the bingo nights. I've enjoyed every event I've attended and hope to attend more in the future.
Am learning a lot How much you learn in a class is based on the teaching style and how the students themselves learn. I've had professors that I loved where I learned very little, and classes where I didn't like the professor but learned a lot. Most of the professors seem really interested in helping their students thrive, but some do seem to think that teaching an intro level class is beneath their intelligence. But overall I think I'm learning what I need to to succeed.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Take the first week to get used to everything, that means letting the parties wait and sticking too settling in. I promise the parties will be there later and who knows you may find other activities to do. Always keep an eye out for clubs you may like and remember to get involved. Its what you put in on campus that makes it a memorable experience so remember to get involved. Also check out Greek life and see if it may be a good fit for you. Despite all the rumors we really aren't that bad, so get to know us for yourself, all stereotypes aside.
Bang for the buck If you are instate UNH is a lot cheaper then heading somewhere else and its close to home for those who are family orientated like I am. I stay here most of the time but do have the option of going home on the weekends when I need some time away from campus.
Am enjoying being here There is always something going on on campus. Even for those who don't like to party. I am one of those people who would rather have a nice night in than a wild night out and there is always something for me to do around campus. Like go to a MUB movie which only costs 2 bucks or play pool or ping pong ball in the mub there are also special events that take place through out the year like the Scope concerts or comedian shows that pass through. Campus is very well rounded and there is certainly something here for everyone.
Am learning a lot I am a Dairy management student and am glad to say that I find almost all of my classes to be a lot of fun and very helpful for my future career.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for those who want to live in a mix of urban and rural.
Tips for prospective students Getting involved in any sort of club/sport is a great way to make friends and have fun doing things you actually want to do. Also, UNH tries to look at your entire high school career, not just your senior year, so try not to slack off only to realize last minute that your GPA isn't that great.
Bang for the buck Despite having an amazing education, the recent 12% tuition hike will probably prevent some students from attending.
Am enjoying being here There are many clubs/sports available to students. If there's not one available, you can create one. Being able to participate in so many activities with friends - sometimes on a daily basis - is part of the reason I love UNH.
Am learning a lot In order to fulfill my general education requirements - known as the Discovery Program at UNH - I am taking various courses, such as Introduction to Forensics, News Writing, Arabic, and Astronomy. Having requirements like these do make well-rounded students; however, I am an English major, not an Astronomy major. Some of these classes I could do without. This is not the fault of the teachers though. Many of them strive to make enough office hours and are dedicated to helping their students succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students UNH is a great school for any student. Whether you are a liberal arts major or want to be a doctor or a veterinarian, this is the place for you. Engineering, liberal arts, psychology, marine biology, zoology, chemistry, physics, equine studies, business, nutrition, journalism, etc. UNH has something for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Come down for a visit. You'll fall in love with it. It has a great little campus town - plenty to do no matter what your interests are. The Whitimore Center not only host school athletic events that you can attend for free, it also is a venue for concerts, etc and the price is right.
Bang for the buck Considering it is a state school, it's the best one in NH. It is rated one of the top business schools nationally, as well as one of the top schools, in general, nationally. It offers so many majors that it is the best choice for the money from any school. You can't beat it.
Am enjoying being here UNH has been the best choice for me. It offers so much. I have made so many friends. Between intermural sports, clubs, going to the health club, I've made a lot of friends. Housing and academics are pretty close together for such a large school. It is not a school that is intimidating due to it's size. It has something to offer for everyone. I just love it here.
Am learning a lot UNH has a lot of opportunities. There is a major for everyone. I am a psychology major with minors in business and social work. I am involved with 5 clubs, an officer in one. There library is a great place to study. It's a tough school, but you get what you pay for. I love it.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students The tips i have from when i visited were that it is better to have a high GPA and a 1900 on the SATs to get the best scholarships. The lowest score for a scholarship is 1780.
Bang for the buck There is a lot of great things to do around campus, they have a five level library that even has its own movie rental place on the second floor. It has great athletic facilities and the food is like a buffet and you only have to pay one per meal.
Will enjoy being here They have the first 3D movie theater in the United States at a college. they always have events going on whether it is school wide, your dorm, or the floor you live on. They also have discounted passes to three major ski mountains, which I will probably get.
Will learn a lot I am planning to apply to the engineering school at UNH. It is top ranked and has lots of good facilities that will allow me to become knowledgeable about the engineering profession.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are buses constantly traveling to Portsmouh and Newmarket, so you can go to the movies, mall, or the quaint shops. Most students, however, stay on campus and find activities to do with their friends. There are always events being held by the student organizations, including showings of movies, concerts, and bingo!
Food and Dining The food at UNH is amazing! Compared to most institutions, this food is fresh, gourmet, and always changing. From sushi, burgers, pizza, fresh salad bar, and ice cream sundaes every weekend, you can always find something that is appealing and healthy.
Dorm Life Underclassmen dorms are what you expect for a college living situation. They are typically two-person rooms with just enough space for all of your belongings. Suite-style dorms are really nice, though, with a private bathroom and at least four people to a room.
Academic Rigor Given the size of the school, freshmen are typically in very large classes. This can be great for some, but for most students the large classes put them at a disadvantage because they are not given a one-on-one relationship with their teachers.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want as a student. Be an advocate for yourself and be ready to directly go after what you want. At a large university it is vital that you are independent and motivated.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are TONS of activities paid for by your Student Activity fee, so while there are always parties, there are plenty of alternatives in the MUB to check out!
Food and Dining Our food is ranked something like 18th in the nation for colleges, it's awesome. There is a special section for vegans and there are plenty of options for everyone.
Dorm Life The dorms are mostly pretty nice, although there are a few buildings that students definitely try to avoid with housing. Dorm life is what you make it, if you want to participate, you're always welcome and if you would rather be left alone your privacy is respected. The RAs work very hard to make everyone feel comfortable and create a welcoming environment with biweekly socials and poster boards.
Academic Rigor I gave this three stars because the rigor is completely up to you. If you choose to take harder honors classes it will be much harder than if you take regular level classes. The gen eds are all pretty easy, but as soon as you get further into your major that changes.
Tips for prospective students Take college seriously, even though it's a party school and there IS a party every night, that doesn't mean you have to go to a party every night. Don't take classes with people you already know, it's fun, but if you spend time talking to your friends you'll miss out on the lecture and annoy people around you!
In three sentences Great school, happy people and lots of parties!

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are campus police that patrol unh and make their presence felt, as well as emergency aid posts all around campus if you need to sound an alarm. there is a fire department right on campus and they do fire safety checks. and the campus is pretty safe, even after dark - just use common sense and walk with a friend if possible, just to be safe.
Greek Life those i know who are members of sororities or fraternities seem to really enjoy the sense of community and the socials that greek life offers them. but those same people are still part of the university at large, and still make many friends outside their greek house.
Clubs and Activities there is an organization for any interest - salsa dancing, the environment, religion, fitness, healthy eating, engineering, and so much more! check the unh website for a list of clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students anyone can find a place at unh - the introvert, the social butterfly, the nerd, the scientist, the musician, etc. - and everyone can find friends with similar interests. and i have found people to be very accepting.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a food van that comes late at night that is said to have to best cheesy fries. everyone raves about the dairy bar ice cream shop in the summer. we have college woods - a huge expanse of trails on one edge of campus. and we have an ice rink that has free skate hours.
Bang for the buck pretty reasonable for what college costs these days, especially if you are in state. and it is a quality education, with so many things made available to you. there is a math help center, writing help center, and so many more. there are multiple libraries (the main one and branch ones for the sciences). there are free social events. and you meet so many great people!
What to do for fun take the free unh wildcat transit bus to portsmouth (only about 20 minutes away), a really interesting coastal town with great restaurants and stores for shopping, as well as paths to walk on. or take the bus to the mall (about 20 minutes). first thursday of the month there are contra dances in dover town hall (10 minutes away). durham has a cute little downtown where you can go get pizza or coffee. the mub (memorial union building) on campus shows not-yet-released movies on the weekends, and hosts many events, from amazing a-capella shows, to discussions, workshops, and (near finals) stress-relief events. unh has faculty and student concerts quite frequently (and actual concerts every once in a while), as well as its own art museum. and you can always hang out with friends in the dorm - watch movies, eat snacks, bake (if your dorm or one nearby has a kitchen).
Food and Dining unh has 3 dining halls, and a wide range of options for food, from soup and sandwiches to hot entrees, pizza, salad, fruit, desserts, and breakfast foods. they even have vegetarian and gluten-free options, and hard serve ice cream on the weekends! yes, it still doesn't compare to home cooking, but it's one of the best dining halls i've heard of, and there's something for even the pickiest eater.
Dorm Life i live in engelhardt, the drug-free dorm, and love it! the people are all so friendly and inclusive, the dorm is quiet enough to study in, and it's very centrally located. i have heard some scary stories about the freshman dorms, stoke, williamson, and christenson - they seem to be loud and i think all the residents get stuck with bills for damages from rowdy people.
Academic Rigor i have found my classes to be very manageable. yes, in college you spend less time in class and more time on homework, but it isn't that difficult - there is always someone to help you if you need it, and it's really just a matter of putting in the time. studying for tests, learning the concepts, and going to ask for help when you don't understand are all key.
Tips for prospective students for any college, you must be self-motivated - set your own schedule, keep track of important deadlines and dates, and go out and meet people. but at unh, it is especially important to do so because it is a fair-sized public university - you have an academic advisor, but they are not going to hold your hand through every little problem or tell you what to do. when you need help, ask for it - your advisor is happy to help when you ask, there is a career center, and another center that helps with study habits, time management, etc. (both right on campus!), not to mention your ras, fellow students, and your teachers. in addition, i would say try to balance work and play - meet people, but get your homework done. go out and get involved! volunteer, find out about opportunities for research and study abroad, join a club, join an intramural sports team. and try to eat and sleep well - it makes everything so much easier.
In three sentences unh is a beautiful school, with a wide range of people, many of whom (both students and staff) are friendly and helpful. i have found the teachers to be open and engaging. there are so many opportunities there, but it is up to you to find them and go for them!

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are emergency posts all around campus where, if ever there was an emergency, you could click the button and the police will come immediately. you'll also make a really bright blue light on the top start flashing, which also draws attention. there have, however, been incidents of crimes but they are not very plentiful and generally occur in places where students are not allowed to be (like in the woods behind the health center or near the railroad tracks). if such a crime does occur, the police will text and/or email you so you'll always know what's going on.
Clubs and Activities there are hundreds if not thousands of clubs and activities, ranging from yoga to outings to acting and beyond! needless to say, i cannot even begin to describe them all here!
Great for these types of students anyone and everyone - i've met all sorts of students from many different backgrounds and states as well as countries around the world! it amazes me that so many different people would come to nh, although i can perfectly understand why they would want to come to unh! it is very scenic, has lots of activities, and lots of different people. if you like any of the above, then unh is the place for you!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus every fall semester, unh holds a u-day, or university day. during this event, which lasts for a few hours, main street is closed, and rock walls and other such recreational items are placed all along it for student entertainment. a massive bbq is also held, and hundreds of tables representing almost every club, activity, team, or business/association are set up on thompson hall and hundreds of items are given out by the before-mentioned people for free! from t-shirts to totes to sunglasses, candy, frisbees, pens, stuffed animals, food, and beyond, there are lots of items available free of charge and it is truly an enjoyable event that no one wants to miss!
Bang for the buck i feel like it breaks about even, although many people tell me that they get much more for what they pay. i know that, compared to other colleges, unh does give you much more for your money, but i tend to feel like it would be better if they charged you less. then again, who doesn't feel that way?
What to do for fun you can attend sports games, enjoy the olympic size swimming pool or open skate at the whittemore center, shop downtown, travel to portsmouth or dover, attend concerts, hang out with friends... the list goes on and on! my favorite thing to do is attend the what's on wednesday programs put on by the mub. every wednesday, they get people to come in and either do cool crafts with us (like burn our names in wood, personalize dog-tags, make business-card holders, etc...) or put on a concert - and it's absolutely free (its paid for by your entertainment/mub fee, which is part of your tuition)! my favorite event last year was when jd eicher (of a band called jd eicher and the goodnights from pennsylvania/ohio) performed for us live - that guy is amazing! and he's coming back this semester too! i can't wait!
Food and Dining unh is known for its food, and there's good reason for that - it's delicious! there are 3 or 4 different dining halls, and i swear most of the people i know spend every free moment of the day eating! i was working with a group of friends on physics homework the other day, and they decided to take a break and eat even though they had only had lunch 2 hours ago! it was crazy! my favorite dining hall is holloway commons (hoco), where there are 7 or 8 different types of buffet tables (salads, dessert, sushi, pizza, subs, etc..) and you can go around as many times as you like and eat as much as you like - it's a buffet! there are also little cafeteria and coffee shops sprinkled around campus and in academic buildings, so you are never far from food or drink! we even built a dunkin donuts on campus within the last few months - how convenient is that?
Dorm Life i cannot rate this either way as i am a commuter student, but most of my friends who dorm love it! a few complain about fire alarms going off at 2 or 3am (they live in stoke hall), but they love it for the most part and tell me i'm crazy for not dorming. i have been in a dorm building once for a honors program meeting, and i can say that the lounges/common areas are very impressive! i was in hubbard hall, and the lounge/common area i was in had about half a dozen couches, a piano, a pool table, and various board games. it also had christmas decorations (it was the end of november), and many posters and just looked very cheery and inviting in general! i kind of wish we had meetings there more often!
Academic Rigor some classes are somewhat easy, while others can be quite a challenge! likewise, some classes require very little time out of the classroom (doing homework, labs, studying, etc...) while others require lots! it all depends on your skills and interests and the type of classes you take. for example, lab classes or writing intensive classes tend to be more time-consuming than just lectures.
Tips for prospective students check out the campus - it's always a good idea to check out the campus of the schools you are interested in. unh is located in its on little town and offers both bus transportation around campus and to neighboring towns and train transportation to towns and cities across the state and into different stats as well (amtrak). it also offers lots of sidewalks - be sure to weear good walking shoes that won't kill your feet! if you don't like big schools, this may not be the place for you. take it easy - no matter which college you go to, you always want to try to make your first semester as easy as possible so that you have time to adjust to college life and to the different type of classes and such without sacrificing your grades or gpa. get to know people: it's always a good idea to say hi to people and become friends with those around you, whether they be in your dorm or in your classes. you'll find your time at school much more enjoyable then, and will even grow to like your classes more as many people will tend to do homework or form study groups with their friends. it helps everyone learn better and enjoy their classes, and i'm almost certain you'll love it too! above all - have fun! college is not a death sentence, so don't look at it like one. yes, you are there to learn but that doesn't mean you can't interact with people and attend events outside of classes! it doesn't matter which college you go to - if you don't have fun or at least enjoy it, you won't have a good time. and you never want to be in that situation!
In three sentences unh is a massive school with as many opportunities; i have met many different people with all sorts of different majors and from all over the country, and we have become friends. unh offers the opportunity to study whatever area interests you most in a hands-on way using advanced laboratories and attending classes with professors known for their work in that area. unh also offs plenty of extra-curricular activities ranging from clubs to sports to out-door movies and beyond, and even rewards its students for attending such events - overall, it is a fantastic school that i would recommend to anyone!

Categories Comments Campus Safety unh health services is sometimes helpful, but beware that if you head in there with something minor, they will probably think it's mono. “oh, your throat hurts? must be mono,” “oh, your eye is bloodshot? must be mono,” “oh, your ankle is swollen? must be mono.” though they're not always the sharpest crayons in the box, those who work at health services do have good intentions and try their best to help students get well quickly.
Food and Dining unh has three dining halls that always have freshly cooked food everyday and always have variety. the dining halls often participate in holidays and theme nights (such as valentine's day, mardi gras, march madness, etc), which give the students a refreshing dining experience. one thing that sets unh dining apart from other colleges is that unh dining has a messaging system called “napkin notes.” with napkin notes, students can write questions, suggestions, and comments on napkins and deposit them into a box to await a response. the napkin notes are then responded to by the dining hall manager an pinned up on a bulletin board outside of the dining hall for everyone to see. i think that it is a very clever way for students to express their opinions and comments directly to the person who is in charge of their food. the manager often takes students' suggestions and does whatever it takes to give unh students pleasant, satisfactory dining experiences.
Dorm Life dorms at unh, are dorms. some are beautiful, some need work. some are themed, some are all one gender. typical college living situations. all dorms are within walking distance of the academic buildings, which is very nice. one thing that sets unh dorms apart from other colleges is that they put on events within the dorms called floor wars. with floor wars, each floor of a dormitory is a team and they compete with other floors in their building in numerous events. at the end of the week, the floor with the highest number of points wins all of floor wars. especially for freshmen, floor wars is a great social catalyst that helps everyone learn to work together while building friendships in the process.
Academic Rigor the university of new hampshire has a very tough academic curriculum and high expectations for its students. unh not let students snooze their way to a degree; if students want a degree, they need to work hard and earn it. academics always come first here, followed closely by eating, napping, and hockey games.
Tips for prospective students my tips for prospective students are as follows: study your butt off, nap frequently, ask questions, set goals for yourself; aim high, hold doors open for others, touch the wildcat, attend sporting events (especially hockey games), don't eat the macaroni and cheese, go home sometimes, get used to trudging through six inches of snow to get to class, play an intramural sport, hate on umaine and bc, celebrate school spirit always, and take advantage of the opportunities you come across here, you've earned them.
In three sentences unh is a great university, both academically and socially. the people here are friendly and genuine (i've never been to a place where so many people are so insistent on holding all doors open for one another; both literally and figuratively). though all the students and staff here always welcome newcomers with open arms, as soon as they cross paths with one from umaine or bc (especially on the ice) students become very competitive and the school spirit part of their brains take over.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There police are very friendly, and will help you with anything from the most serious offense to simple directions or helping you cross the street safely.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs. I few I have enjoyed are Ballroom Dancing and Project Sunshine.
Great for these types of students UNH is great for the outdoors type student, the outgoing student, or the type of student who enjoys a great balance between social life and education - UNH offers it all!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know much about the traditions, but I have heard that when you graduate, all graduates line up to rub the nose of the famous UNH wildcat statue, for good luck in future endeavors.
Bang for the buck I love the gym. It's huge and has all the equipment you could need. If you aren't into equipment, there are many scenic hiking, jogging, or biking trails around campus.
What to do for fun UNH has many great activities to offer, ranging from free exercise and yoga classes to having the first 3D movie theater on a college campus! There are many retail stores, bars, restaurants, and ice cream places that line Main St. It's a great little town with many things to do.
Food and Dining Much of the food is grown on local farms, so it's always fresh and nutritious. They have a few different dining halls spread out around the campus, but each one contains nearly anything you could crave.
Dorm Life The dorm buildings are so beautiful and spacious, even the built-up triples! Some buildings are nicer than others, such as the SERCs, but every building is unique.
Academic Rigor It's challenging, but not impossible! Students of all varying academic abilities find the classes to be great.
Tips for prospective students Check out UNH before you visit, the beautiful campus itself is seals the deal! Don't be afraid to attend a class during a semester to see what it's like.
In three sentences It is a great school. It offers many opportunities to gain many different skills. It is the most beautiful campus I have seen.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities I found a community- service based organization that I absolutely love. Almost everyone I know here is involved in at least one club.
Bang for the buck UNH is much, much cheaper than other schools even though I am out- of- state. I still think that college as a whole is very over-priced though.
What to do for fun There are buses that can take you to the mall, movies, or downtown Portsmouth because freshman can't have cars. There are always lots of other activities going on campus. Also, there are a ton of clubs to join. On the weekends, frats have parties, and there are other places to go to party. You can drink in the dorms if you're careful.
Food and Dining The food here is pretty good, depending on the day. Compared to other schools, it is excellent; compared to home cooked meals, it's not as good.
Dorm Life I live on an all freshman floor, which helped me make instant friends.
Academic Rigor You can make your schedule as easy or hard as you want. The really easy and really hard classes are well known, so it is up to how you make your schedule. Overall, though, I don't find these classes any harder than my high school classes. The flexibility of my schedule actually makes getting my work done easier, since I only spend a few hours in class each day.
Tips for prospective students When you look at pictures of the campus, that's actually what it looks like here. Our campus is so nice, and people are always hanging out outside (when the weather is nice). Although it is a large school, each dorm forms a smaller community. I definitely recommend living in all- freshman housing though; it's easier to make friends.
In three sentences I definitely made the right choice to come to UNH. I made great friends within the first week, and have so much fun here. Also, UNH has a really strong nursing program, and I can tell I am getting a great education.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek Life is awesome at UNH. As a sister of Kappa Delta, I can tell you from first hand experience that the Greek community is a great place to get involved.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for literally everything. You can't go wrong when you try to get involved.
Bang for the buck UNH is one of the most expensive public schools on the east cost, but you definitely get what you are paying for. The academics, the degree, and the memories to last a lifetime.
What to do for fun There are so many different groups to get involved with on this campus that no matter what you like to do there is something for everyone guaranteed!
Food and Dining The food here is DELICIOUS. There are so many options every single night!
Dorm Life I loved living in my dorm this past year. You meet so many new people, and make so many friends that you'll remember it long past your freshman year.
Academic Rigor Depending on what you choose to take for classes, they can be hard but at the end of it, you feel so accomplished when you get that good grade.
Tips for prospective students If you are a prospective student try to come up here and take a tour. The campus is beautiful, and that's how UNH won me over.
In three sentences UNH is the perfect school for me. I did not originally want to come here, but I ended up realizing it was the perfect fit. There are so many things to get involved with here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on campus. There is the UNH Police and the Durham Police that are there to keep campus safe. We also have the blue light system which means there are buttons around campus that you can push to have a police assist you at any time. I have never felt unsafe in my dorm or anywhere else on campus.
Greek Life There is Greek life on campus but its not overwhelming as it is on some campuses. About 10% of students participate in either a sorority or a fraternity. Greek life is something that some people really enjoy at UNH, it is a good way to meet people and be a part of community service.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities on campus. One of the most popular is broom ball, which is played on the hockey rink with sneakers instead of skates, a broom instead of a stick, and a ball instead of a puck. There are also clubs for everything from cupcake baking to sign language. Another great thing about UNH is that if there isn't a club that you like you can make your own as long as you have seven members!
Great for these types of students UNH is made up of a very diverse group of students. I think it would be good for most any type of student. Because there are so many different majors, classes, and activities most anyone with a desire to learn and motivation to succeed would be a good fit for UNH.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A tradition that really helped me feel a part of the UNH community happened during the first week of school. We had a freshmen rally in which we heard really inspirational speeches from important figures in the university such as our president. As we left the field house we were asked to rub our mascot's nose. This is supposed to give freshmen good luck in their next four years of college.
Bang for the buck College is expensive, that's hard to get around, but I really feel that my money is going to good use. Just since I started in the fall of 2011 I feel that I am a totally transformed person. I have learned so much and feel really lucky to be a student at a university that offers so much.
What to do for fun There is tons to do on campus for fun. There are so many sports events and shows to attend, clubs to join, sports teams to play on, and other activities to attend on a weekly basis. Even in your down time there is plenty to do. UNH has a beautiful campus and there are always people running down the sidewalk or throwing a Frisbee on the lawn. Another thing to keep in mind is that with such a big student body there is always someone around to spend time with.
Food and Dining UNH has great food. As a vegetarian I was a little concerned that a dining hall would not meet my needs but it has been wonderful. There are so many options and its easy to eat healthy every day.
Dorm Life Living in a dorm is tons of fun. We have lots of activities run by our Resident Assistants such as tie dying, games, and discussions. I've also met some friends as a result of living in a dorm at UNH that I know I will have forever. Its definitely an experience that I would recommend to a college student.
Academic Rigor UNH offers really great and challenging classes. The professors are knowledgeable and have really broadened my view of the world in the short time that I've been a student. Its hard work but that's how college should be, hard work pays off.
Tips for prospective students Regardless of what university you choose I would recommend to go into school with an open mind. College is a really unique time in someones life. It offers endless opportunities and this is a perfect time to take advantage of them. Its important to step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
In three sentences I've really enjoyed my first year at UNH. My classes have been interesting, challenging, and fulfilling. I have also had access to great resources as a student.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities New Hampshire Outing Club, Chess Club....there is something for everyone. There is a huge number of clubs on campus, everyone is in a club!
Great for these types of students Hard working, nature loving.
Bang for the buck UNH isn't cheap, but compared to other schools I feel it is a good value for in-state students.
What to do for fun New Hampshire Outing Club trips, nature hikes, visiting Portsmouth and Dover.
Food and Dining Dining halls are surprisingly good for a college campus.
Tips for prospective students Work hard in your classes. While there is a lot of non-academic stuff to do, it is not an easy school.
In three sentences UNH is a really great school. The school is big, but the campus is still nice. Academically good, recreationally excellent.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Emergency buttons located all around campus with a fire station and police station on campus as well. Durham Police patrol the campus in addition to the UNH police. You can sign up for alters via email and text messages as well.
What to do for fun There are a lot of campus sponsored events and no shortage of parties on the weekend.
Food and Dining Excellent compared to other schools but it gets a little repetitive. The dinning staff are exceptionally friendly and eager to please.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are in good condition and the RAs are usually nice. They're very big into making everyone feel like part of a community.
Academic Rigor Don't be afraid to ask for help! All the professors here are more than willing to work with you.
In three sentences Beautiful campus with friendly, eager to help professors but is known as a party school so it get's rowdy on the weekends. Free transportation for students with on and off campus buses and pretty much any major you could think of! Environmentally friendly as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have the blue-box system on campus. Everywhere around campus you will find these phone boxes that directly connect you to 911, and there is a red button you push and the box lights up and police are sent out to your location. It is fast and effective, and makes the campus feel safe.
Clubs and Activities I like United Asian Coalition and Korean Culture club. They put on amazing events and even if you could care less about the culture, the food is awesome and the events are cool.
Great for these types of students Hippies, rockers, or just people who like to chill and get free coffee and food.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love the Grind. I am always there just listening to everyone jam and showing my support for those who have the guts to play on stage.
Bang for the buck There are little convenience stores owned by UNH all around campus. You can use cats cache, dining dollars, or regular money at them all and they have awesome stuff there. They have food, feminine products, products for hangovers, or just convenient store stuff!
What to do for fun Anything and everything. You can go to the mall, Dover, or Portsmouth. Or you can just go to campus activities, which are always going on. The Grind is the BEST activity to attend. It's held by CAB, and has amateur bands playing all night. So much fun!
Food and Dining I love Stillings Dining hall the best! It feels like a small, homely cafe. Hoco has good food, and is the largest, but it is always super crowded. Philbrook sucks. Their food sucks, the seating is confusing, I got lost twice, and it is overcrowded.
Dorm Life Depending on what dorm you live in life can be good. Stoke sucks, if you don't like loud noise, parties, drunks, and stairs. But most other dorms are cool. Try getting into the Serc's.
Academic Rigor Some classes are very challenging, and have expensive books associated with the classes. The teachers are mostly alright. They just expect you to go to class, the classes you are paying for, and to do your homework.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you complete the college requirements in high school, they are very strict with them. Try to have a major in mind when applying, Undeclared is so competitive because so many choose it; you can change your major later. Make sure to keep safe- there are a lot of parties on campus.
In three sentences UNH is an amazing campus. It is beautiful, has great financial aid, and has a homely feeling to it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Large campus-lovers, extroverts, partiers, low-key nighters, almost everyone.
Bang for the buck Not exactly the best education I've ever gotten, and my advisors have all been horrible at telling me what to do with life.
What to do for fun There are a ton of campus organizations hosting activities on all days of the week, and the dorms should be doing at least one social per week for opportunities to get to know others living close to you. Sure, there are the parties and the college scene but there are other things that aren't as visible. Read the flyers on the walls, look for activities in the MUB-like the weekly movies.
Food and Dining Gets boring after a while, Plus it's over priced and low quality on the regular.
Dorm Life Sometimes there are annoyances, and other students may get on your nerves, but ultimately just ignore them because they aren't that big of an issue.
Tips for prospective students Join campus organizations, become friends with people in your classes and major, study hard but have fun, know that drinking isn't the only way to have fun on weekends. Be positive.
In three sentences This university has a strong health sciences program, although the classes don't always teach what they are meant to. I find the community welcoming and encouraging, and the atmosphere positive and friendly. All around, I enjoy my time at UNH and would recommend it to anyone looking for a larger school with positive internal connections.

Dorm Life I do not live on campus but I hav heard that it is nice and fun because you meet alot of people and learn a lot of life lessons.
Academic Rigor There are many classes that push you to work hard and have a lot of work that needs to be done but you learn a lot through each of those. Yet there are other classes that are very open and relaxed with homework but provide a stimulating and knowledgable experience.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Take day trips to Portsmouth, take a stroll in downtown Durham, and take a drive to Kittery Maine which is 20 minutes away.
Food and Dining The University of New Hampshire's food and dining has been rated one of the best on the country. There is always an array of options, vegetarian, omelet bars, grill station etc. You will never leave disappointed.
Dorm Life The dorms on campus are awesome! The RAs will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and will arrange floor dinners, and activities so everyone can get to know one another. Majority of students leave there doors open making the experience that much better because of the friendliness.
Academic Rigor Professors want you to do well, and want you to challenge yourself, as a result it is very important you do well academically.
Tips for prospective students Definitely do not shy away from living in Stoke Hall. Though it is a mixed class dorm, you get a chance to meet an array of people and open up your friend circle. Get involved on campus, there are plenty activities for students to be a part of, it will definitely make your college experience worthwhile. Lastly, take advantage of taking day trips to Portsmouth or Boston.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety has gotten more strict within the past few years, so if they even see you stumble, they have probable cause. If a student is throwing a party in their dorm and they are underage, they are automatically kicked out of the university. In terms of security, all of the buildings are secured each night
Greek Life There are 7 recognized sororities and 9 recognized frats and they are both heavily involved in the campus and community. They've participated in organizations such as Seacoast Reads Golden Key Maiden Harmony Big Brothers, Big Sisters NH Animal Rescue League Volunteers Peer Mediation The Durham Pancake Breakfast Spruce Woods Valentine's Day Dance
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hockey games, of course.
What to do for fun Oh my gosh, there are so many things that UNH has to offer. There are several different clubs and you are ALWAYS meeting new people. UNH is right near downtown and the beach and certain malls, so you can just take the bus. You can travel to Boston and go clubbing on weekends and there are just fun trips organized by your advisers sometimes. It's a big campus to explore and there are little shops around downtown, too. Do not worry, there is always something to do at UNH. Especially the concerts!! And you have to attend the hockey games, they are free and hockey is a MUST at UNH!! Wooo!
Food and Dining The dining halls are great!! It's beautiful and it's buffet style, so you just swipe in and then run around to get your food and chill and talk with your friends. It's very relaxed and comfortable. There are high tables and chairs as well as booths and big long tables, so if you're feeling like having a comfortable day you can pick a booth, if you feel like sitting near a window in a tall chair another day, you totally can. The food is sooo good and unlimited, I heard a lot of people spend their time there just because it's so good and they study there, haha!
Dorm Life Depending on the dorm you choose, you could various different experiences! There are 3 sections of dorms to the UNH Durham campus. Some dorms are dedicated JUST to freshman, which is nice. Some are mixed while some dorms are based on major. So it's kind of a cool mix that you get to choose from on your application. My roommate and I decided to go with the freshman dorm because we want to get acquainted with people who are going through the same things and dealing with the same things we are, as well as meet new people. And we heard that the freshman dorms sometimes have fun outings and trips to the city, like Boston and such, so that should be cool.
Academic Rigor I haven't actually attended UNH yet, but I heard that the course load is pretty decent. I suppose it depends on your teacher and their teaching techniques (as well as how you learn!). It's definitely not like high school where you're writing 5-7 page papers, there might be times when professors would like a 3 page personal story or a 15 page essay on something you know nothing about. So I'm going to guess that the academic rigor is definitely challenging, but not overwhelming.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely say to pick up a campus map because the campus is so big. Of course, once you get here it's going to be easy and it's going to seem so simple, but for an incoming freshman, it can seem daunting. I would just talk to as many upper class kids as you can and do not hesitate to contact admissions via e-mail or calling them to ask questions about orientation, placement tests, roommate assignments, etc. because they are there to help! So my tip is try not to stress and always seek out your options.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire campus is very beautiful and buzzing with various activities like sporting events, marching bands, kids hanging out and studying, etc. The dorms were very well put together and presented to us on our tours and staying over night in them was a pleasant stay. I would give UNH a great score because it has a study abroad program, many majors to choose from, a multitude of activities, and several transportation systems to get you to where you need to go!

Bang for the buck I think the University of New Hampshire is worth the money, I just wish when I come out I am not in debt.
What to do for fun I like to have movie nights with my friends, as well as go to the gym, or the MUB to play ping pong and pool!
Food and Dining You will never be able to find dinning hall food better than UNH's!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University has its own police force.
Greek Life I was never in a fraternity.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for every interest you could think of.
Great for these types of students People who want to have fun and learn, it sounds cliche but its very true.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Kurt's Lunchbox! It's a small truck that sells cheese-fries on the weekend, probably the best/worst food ever.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, but well worth it for the academic and social experience.
What to do for fun There is always something to do around campus, whether it be a concert in the MUB, a pick up soccer game at the rec-fields, or a lecture on the political climate.
Food and Dining Best food ever, say hello to the freshman fifteen.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome, you meet friends you'll never forgot. The only downside is a lack of space.
Academic Rigor The University of New Hampshire is challenging, but that's if you're putting yourself to your full potential and not just trying to slip by.
Tips for prospective students Have an open mind, you never know what you might find.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire provides a small campus that, despite its size, seems like its own world. All the professors I've had so far have been not only great teachers, but great people as well. The mentality around the University is that of learning and fun.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are cameras in area where students leave their backpacks before going to the dining hall, the UNH Police are always on patrol as well as the Durham Police and the State Troopers, who pass through UNH regularly. There are emergency siren buttons scattered all over campus and you'll be hard-pressed to find a dark corner.
Clubs and Activities There's a club for everything. There's even a hammock club. They are mostly all student-run and student-governed.
Great for these types of students UNH is great for anybody. There's a dorm setting for everybody, whether they like it quiet, secluded, loud, playful, or tight-knit.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My friends and I have kitchen parties, where we all crowd into our dorm's community kitchen and bake food--or rather, two people bake food and everybody else stands around and eats it. It's a great way to meet new people and I've had some of my favorite conversations in there.
Bang for the buck UNH is expensive, and this is no secret to anybody. The faculty understand that students are paying huge amounts of money to attend and they try their best to make it worth every penny.
What to do for fun UNH supports huge concerts of popular artists such as J. Cole, Avicii, and Eli Young Band twice every year. There is a $2 movie theater showing movies from only a few months before, they hire professional jugglers, hypnotists, and entertainers, and there is a comedy show almost every week. There is always something to do for fun.
Food and Dining UNH's food is world-class. There are three dining halls, each open all day, which serve excellent buffet-style meals as well as provide dry foods like breads, bagels, and cereals so students may make their own meals if they feel so inclined. Beyond that are several small food courts, restaurants, and convenient stores, from which students can buy food using their own money or the specialized Dining Dollars and Cat's Cache that come with certain meal plans. If a student is still unsatisfied, there are several small restaurants just off campus as well as a grocery store.
Dorm Life UNH's themed housing creates small communities within the campus-wide population. Living in the Making the Grade themed dorm, I felt myself surrounded by others with similar interests in all of my fields of study as well as my hobbies and past times.
Academic Rigor UNH has many resources for all levels of students. Students have access to a number of help centers for general areas, such as the Writing Center, which is an office dedicated to helping students of any discipline with essays. Some of these are placed strategically in certain dorms: the Math Center, for example, is located in one of the large Freshmen-only towers, as it is most frequently visited by new students.
Tips for prospective students Get involved and meet new people. Obviously this has its social benefits and merits, but do not forget that peers and professors alike can be an unprecedented help during your academic career.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire provides academic, social, career, and research opportunities and support for all areas of study. The campus itself is very welcoming and boasts an exceptionally accepting atmosphere. Students looking to learn new things in an environment dedicated to education will find UNH to be a perfect fit for them.

Categories Comments Campus Safety With a campus that involves a lot of walking and plenty to do after dark, the university and town have gone to great lengths to provide security. Emergency Blue Lights are well dispersed, the university has a dedicated, accredited police department of its own, and new developments are always in progress, such as text notifications of possible concerns and the CrimePush iPhone app recently invented by a UNH student and implemented by local police departments. If anything, local police departments are known more for being overbearing than for letting crime occur. Serious incidents are well-publicized but infrequent.
Greek Life Greek Life is what you make it at UNH. Students may participate in a good number of fulfilling, upstanding, chivalry-touting organizations that are part of the association, which provides great resources and opportunities to participants. However, each year it seems at least one frat becomes unrecognized, though usually their reputation for trouble is clearly established by that point. Nonetheless, choosing the right fraternity or sorority for you can build all of the lasting relationships and experiences that you desire.
Clubs and Activities Not only is the list of student organizations staggering, but the administration does an excellent job of supporting them, allowing participants to forge experiences in leadership, entertainment, marketing their club, and more that will serve them well in any future endeavors. Of particular popularity are the campus' six a cappella groups (one, Not Too Sharp, recently dubbed 'Best of NH'), which hold yearly auditions, the student theater troupe Mask and Dagger or the Theater and Dance Department, reputable student media outlets The New Hampshire (newspaper) and WUNH (Class A FM radio), and the intramural sports teams, which include every traditional recreational sport plus other favorites like Broomball. Students may also choose clubs that go straight to the resume, such as the Athletic Trainers Club, athletics marketing club, or the Student Committee on Popular Entertainment (SCOPE), which brings in large music and comedy acts each semester (recently including J. Cole, Eli Young Band, Passion Pit, and Lewis Black).
Great for these types of students Students seeking a large student body but a rural campus will thrive here. The natural world is close at hand here, so active or outdoors-oriented individuals will enjoy the setting. Motivated, entrepreneurial students will especially find the opportunity to carve a promising future for themselves at UNH.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hockey. Wildcats fans are irrepressible, and a yearly trip to the playoffs means they are not going anywhere. The student section at any big game is the most fun place on campus, and visiting teams had better be ready for a long list of traditional irreverent cheers and taunts. An improving football team is rapidly gaining 'tradition' status, and 'riding the Wildcat' statue pictures are completely unavoidable.
Bang for the buck Due largely to recent lack of support from state government, UNH is one of the nation's most expensive state universities, particularly for out-of-state students. However, its strength and variety offerings may make it comparable to some private schools, where its price compares favorably. Based on growing enrollment rates, the price seems to be worthwhile!
What to do for fun On campus, the Memorial Union Building provides movies in their theaters and live entertainment of some kind most nights of the week. Student organizations such as the a cappella, instrumental, or electronic music groups, student theater troupe, comedy clubs, and intramural sport teams provide opportunities for entertainment or participation. Durham's quaint downtown provides food and bars but not much entertainment, but outdoors-oriented students will find that forests, rivers, trails, and winding waterfront roads offer great recreation. Moving further away, neighboring towns Dover, Newington and Portsmouth offer local culture and all forms of typical entertainment, and beaches, mountains, and Boston are all accessible with an hour's commute.
Food and Dining The campus' three dining halls are well-placed, and the availability of food is exceptionally good. During the week, at least one dining hall is always open from 7:30 am straight through to 11:00 pm. Food quality is excellent, and eating healthy is definitely an option, aided by nutrition guides. The staff is accommodating to diners with special dietary needs as long as the student is willing to consistently stay in contact with dining hall administrators.
Dorm Life Dorm social life can be hit-or-miss depending on the building. The hall director, resident assistants (RAs), and the specific residents of a hallway any given year have a big influence on whether the floor is silent or social. The Housing department does an thorough job of placing freshmen in situations that meet their needs and whims. Though the condition of buildings and rooms varies, nearly every dorm has individuals who love it, reflecting a good overall experience.
Academic Rigor You can build an academic schedule that fits your own expectations here. Although finaigling an easy list of courses is always possible, the average student will progress to having a few very challenging courses per year by halfway through their degree. Students interested in the extra challenge of a self-created research project will find the academic infrastructure, grant support, and presentation opportunities are readily available.
Tips for prospective students UNH has the student body size and variety of opportunities for you to write your own story- if you are looking for a particular social or academic experience you can find it here. However, often you will have to go out and find it yourself, so having an idea of what you are looking for and having the ability to advocate for yourself will serve you well.
In three sentences UNH offers a gorgeous rural campus that provides the best of New England living. Academic opportunities abound from agriculture to business, communications to neuroscience, with a faculty well-positioned to support student research opportunities in any program. Diverse extracurricular activities include a thriving a cappella and instrumental music scene, excellent student media such as the newspaper and WUNH radio, constant entertainment in the Memorial Union Building, and a well organized Greek Life program.

Greek Life The sorority I am in is great and so much fun. Everyone is so accepting and kind.
Clubs and Activities Such a variety of different organizations, there's a group for all sorts of interests.
Great for these types of students Students interesting in becoming a teacher, a scientist or an engineer.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The outdoor community pool is a great place to have fun, and there are local shops close by.
What to do for fun There are plenty of student organizations, clubs, intramural sports and Greek life organizations. There's always something happening on campus.
Food and Dining UNH has such a great variety of food!
Dorm Life I personally do not live on campus but I have heard many good things about dorm life on campus as well as some bad feedback.
Academic Rigor The classes are quite demanding and hard but all the professors I've had were more than willing to help students who come to them for help.
Tips for prospective students You may be overwhelmed during your first semester (I certainly was.) But try to stick through it and get involved on campus and you'll love UNH.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities I will put it like this: If you can get at least 7 people to agree with you, any club can exist. If you don't think a club/activity group exists already, think again because you might just be wrong.
Bang for the buck Everything at UNH is basically free for students and at a reduced price for family members/significant others. A full weight room and fitness center with operational gym and all other bonuses like access to the turf field and pool for about $250 a year is a deal like no other. The first 3-D movie theater within any university for $3 per screening? What a promise.
What to do for fun There are loads of possibilities: going downtown to Durham; taking the transit to Portsmouth, Newmarket, Manchester etc.; going to Hampton; going hiking or skiing/snowboarding in the mountains; camping out; rafting/swimming -- the lists go on. In the memorable words of my orientation supervisor: If you are looking for a party or something to do, you'll find it no problem.
Food and Dining UNH dining is serious, both slang and literally. One of the common dining facilities uses a system known as napkin notes in which students can write complaints, inquiries, requests, or anything on their mind to the faculty of the dining hall. The best part, the manager personally takes those notes to heart and you can physically see her talking to her staff about everything posted. The food shows because of it since it is delicious and always varying.
Dorm Life The RA -- a term for floor supervisors -- keep all of the floors engaged with each other through weekly socials. Living at UNH is live and a great experience. Sleeping over one night for my orientation was only a glimpse at the possibilities awaiting me and I was heartbroken at the fact I had to leave only to come back later in two long months.
Academic Rigor UNH has high expectations for its students, but the goals set are realistic. I've talked to my orientation leaders about their work load as I did likewise with current students who are my friends. All agree that the work is hard, but hard work is success waiting to happen.
Tips for prospective students Don't sweat the fact that UNH is a state school or a party school -- I could have gotten into private schools with great prestige, but the opportunities offered to me at UNH was better than anywhere else.
In three sentences It's a great campus with welcoming environment and people attending. The university is filled with possibilities that make every day and night a possibility to be fun. If I had to choose to live at UNH for the rest of my life or be a millionaire, I'd choose UNH.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is not extremely important to all students, but there are a lot of options to join a sorority or fraternity.
Clubs and Activities There are activities offered for almost every interest and if your interest isn't represented in the long list of clubs, then it's not hard to start a club up either. There are endless possibilities at the UNH campus.
Great for these types of students Students who want to gain a great education, but also want a school that is very spirited and large in size.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Before sports games everyone rubs the nose of the Wildcat in front of the Whittemore Center.
Bang for the buck Though UNH is a little pricey, especially out of state, it offers many connections to future employers. In addition, the University offers a rigorous academic program for every major. The campus is gorgeous and large, but also gives people access to public transportation to the beautiful Portsmouth New Hampshire. There are so many opportunities for students at UNH that it's worth the price and not to mention they aren't too stingy with financial aid.
What to do for fun UNH offers numerous clubs, sports, events, activities ALL THE TIME. I personally joined the sailing team having never sailed in my life. They also host a day dedicated to allowing students to explore all the club options that the school offers so people are encouraged to mingle and join clubs that include their interest. Basically every interest is represented at UNH. Some things are charity clubs, all sports, hammock club, and many others.
Food and Dining The three food courts on campus all offer great food. Stilling's is known for being the most delicious, but they are all known for having good food. Holloway Commons (HOCO) is known for their delicious deserts and Philbrook (philly) is least popular due to it's location and lack of space, but the food is delicious. Not to mention Philly has late night which is awesome when you're out late studying and want a meal at 11-12 at night.
Dorm Life The dorms are very clean, school spirited, and conveniently located on campus. The RA's are very friendly and helpful. It's easy to visit friends in other dorms because you don't have to sign in. The dorms are always offering activities that are both fun and helpful for those who decide they are necessary.
Academic Rigor I've experienced some classes that aren't focused on challenging coursework, but focusing on rewarding students with a valuable understanding of the purpose of the course. UNH also offers classes that require extreme concentration, effort, and motivation in order to both understand and excel in understanding the coursework.
Tips for prospective students Always give your best effort in classes because all of the classes have a lot to offer. For example, all of the classes whether focused on your major or not have a curriculum that offers a character building learning experience and the effort you put into learning as much as you can will pay off.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire offers numerous opportunities to become involved in the school community. In addition, UNH has aided me in making valuable decisions regarding future career paths. I am confident about my future because of the numerous excellent options that UNH presents

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is really popular at UNH. It's a great way to meet new people and have fun.
Clubs and Activities Dance, Drama, Sports, etc. You name it, we probably have it.
Great for these types of students All types of students are happy here at UNH. There's something for every one!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus DHOP is the place to be on a weekend night around 12:30 am.
What to do for fun There's a variety of clubs, as well as sports teams and intramural sports teams.
Food and Dining The best college food around!
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging, but then again its college.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! Join clubs, study groups, anything! You'll be much happier keeping busy, plus you will meet so many more people.
In three sentences At first the campus seemed big and a bit much to handle, but after a week or two I realized how much I really liked the campus. There are so many opportunities here, I couldn't see myself at any other college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety takes priority at UNH. I've never felt unsafe walking around campus. Police are always on call and ready to respond to anything a student may need.
What to do for fun There are a variety of clubs and activities you can do at UNH. You can volunteer, play a sport, go to the gym, ride the bus to the mall or other shops around the area, there is a list of things you can do! Plus in the spring we have a carnival - complete with rides and food! There is so much you can do for fun here!
Food and Dining UNH has three dining halls, all of which make delicious food! Each dining hall has a variety of stations - main course, breakfast, grill, salad bar, stir fry, pizza/pasta, and of course I can't forget the desserts! All stations contain healthy choices as well as some comfort food as well. I had a hard time preventing the dreading freshman 15! Every holiday the dining halls go all out with festive dinners, which was my favorite part! As well as the dining halls, UNH has snack carts and cafes which provide even more delicious food choices! You definitely don't go hungry at UNH!
Dorm Life Dorm life is always hard to get used to. Living in a new environment, with strange people, and learning to share doesn't come easy. But with some compromise and a few weeks, dorm life becomes easy. You get to know your neighbors and roommates and soon they become your surrogate family. The furnature isn't high quality at UNH, but it does its job. A bed, desk, chair, and closet are provided. What makes it really homey is personal decorations - litter your walls with pictures, posters, and other fun and colorful stuff to make your room more comfortable!
Academic Rigor I'm not going to say that every single class is going to be easy. Lets get real here, it's college! Courses are going to be challenging and possibly overwhelming, but with the correct balance of work and play, the academic rigor isn't that bad. These professors are not out to get you, they want to see their students thrive in their class - this doesn't mean that they go easy on you, but they do tend to make classes interesting for their students so that people will want to learn.
Tips for prospective students If you don't fall in love with the campus scenery first, UNH's food will have your stomach falling head over heels for the campus. UNH has a great community feel that will automatically cure your homesickness. Although it may be hard at first to get adjusted, the professors and other university members make you feel right at home. The variety of interesting courses makes it easy for all majors/ undeclared majors to knock off requirement classes. Thanks to the community, food, and courses, UNH is one of the greatest schools.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire is an amazing school. What makes UNH such an amazing school is its gorgeous landscape 24/7 during every season, friendly atmosphere, personable and well educated instructors, a variety of campus activities, and the delicious food! UNH is not just a University, its a home for its students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus for the most part, just don't do anything dumb on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. High police presence so nothing really gets out of hand for too long.
Greek Life The greek life is kind of joke. They think that they are better then everyone on campus because they wear some greek letters on the front of their sweatshirts. Don't let this bring you down, most of the time they are juiced up jocks that weren't good enough to play college sports. There are a couple good greek houses out there that are respectable and most of the sororities seem good to join and actually participate in their philanthropy.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities offered at UNH. Broomball is a must as an incoming freshmen and should be a requirement that everyone participate in. There are many other intramural sports that are offered throughout the year, and many clubs and organizations that are very involved on the campus. SCOPE is fun to be apart of, and CAB as well.
Great for these types of students People who like the outdoors, don't mind the snow, fun, hardworking, explorative, and open to new things
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This year was the first annual half naked whole mile that happened right before finals in the spring semester. Students stripped down and ran a mile in nothing but their underwear and all the clothes were donated to one of the local charities. It was a great time and everyone that participated had a blast.
Bang for the buck Though it is one of the most expensive in-state schools in the country, the University has a lot to offer its students in both academics and extra curricular activities. There is so much offered to the students, you just have to have an open mind and peruse opportunities.
What to do for fun There is so much that the University offers that you never really know about until you start paying attention. Read the things in the dining halls, they always have information about things going on around campus that are great ways to get involved and meet people! Make sure you attend the hockey games, they are a blast!
Food and Dining Delicious meals and an unlimited number of options. The dining crew does tend to get lazy close to breaks though, so you see food quality go down a little bit. Best times to eat are the off hours of the day, so either before or after peak meal times. This will save you from rushing in the dining hall and choosing the automatic unhealthy choices that are quick and easy to grab. Very friendly staff that are always willing to do whatever it is you ask, especially if you have an allergy or preference.
Dorm Life Every year I have lived in the dorms I have loved it. They are a lot of fun and you really build a relationship with the people on your floor as well as with the RA's and Hall Directors. If you are a Freshman make sure you request to live in Williamson/Christiansen because the freshmen dorms are the best!
Academic Rigor UNH is one of the more challenging schools that I have heard of when talking to most of my friends. UNH is considered a research school, which means that you are required to do most of the work in the course outside of the classroom and at your own pace. Certain subjects are more like this than others, however a lot of the classes have a high level of difficulty and independence. Though there is great academic rigor, I feel as though that only increases the feeling of high reward.
Tips for prospective students If you have a prospective major, come in to the university decided. Transferring into a major is one of the most difficult things with the University's helpful liberal arts advisors. Once you are in a declared major the advisors are so much more helpful and far less condescending about your future.
In three sentences This is a great University to attend with a good sized campus. It is a safe environment where you can walk around late at night and not have to look over your shoulder. It is gorgeous and experiences all seasons to the max, and there is a lot to do!

Categories Comments Campus Safety A great thing about UNH is that it has campus alerts that can be sent directly to students phones. There are also blue lights within view no matter where you are on campus that have distress buttons.
Greek Life Greek life is always booming at UNH. There's a large number of fraternities and sororities so that if you want to be a part of a UNH Greek family, there are many within reach.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs at UNH. There's always something to do on campus because there are so many clubs that you can find just about anything that interests you.
Great for these types of students Students who love to be involved and outgoing would love UNH. Most of the activities and clubs on campus help people open up and meet a lot of marvelous students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an amazing coffee shop called Breaking New Grounds right in downtown Durham, which is tasty as well as relaxing. The down-town area is right on campus so everything that you could need is in reach.
Bang for the buck UNH can be expensive for out-of-state students, but being one myself I have felt that I have been given many openings and opportunities to attend the university at an affordable price.
What to do for fun UNH is known for their lively sporting events. The athletes and atmosphere brings everyone together during games. If I am not at a game, I like to hang out with friends on and off campus.
Food and Dining UNH has a great dining service. There are no restrictions on how often you can go into the dining hall, even with the cheapest meal plan. The food is always delicious, no matter which of the three dining halls you eat at.
Dorm Life The dorm that I lived in last year was so involved and fun. My residential advisers were amazing people who were more my friends than anything else. As a dorm we participated on sports teams together and bonded so that I always felt like there was a friend nearby.
Academic Rigor Professors truly want you to do well at UNH. Classes are filled with interesting information that is not hard to retain. All of my experiences have been slightly tough in course work, but definitely manageable.
Tips for prospective students Definitely the place to be if you want to be surrounded by a lot of intelligent people. The campus is just small enough so that you can get across it quickly, but big enough so that it is not at all cramped.
In three sentences UNH is an amazing school filled with many opportunities. Not only do they have a wide array of interesting classes, but there are numerous study abroad programs. The food and people are also fantastic!

Dorm Life I am unfamiliar with dorm life.
Academic Rigor Finding your way around campus can be one of the most daunting tasks. The campus is large and spread out. Once you learn it, it is quite easy and organized.
Tips for prospective students Use all of the help offered. Nothing is too silly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can call for a police escort if for some reason you're afraid to walk back to the dorms alone and in case of an emergency there are blue emergency towers all over campus. The dorm buildings are locked and you need a student ID card to get in.
Greek Life There are 5 official sororities and even more fraternities. You have the option to rush any year, I didn't rush so I don't know too much else
Clubs and Activities There's over 200 clubs and organizations here at UNH, you'll definitely find something that you'll want to do.
Great for these types of students Anyone! There's something for everyone here. whether you like to go out every weekend or go to socials in your dorm, UNH caters to every students needs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Wild Cotessant, nicknames Wild Kitty is the little store next to Stoke hall, guaranteed to help with your freshman 15. (Don't worry the gyms open long hours). UNH has a 3D movie theater in the Memorial Union building which is pretty cool and New Hampshire Hall has an artificial rock wall.
Bang for the buck Great, you get a great education, free hockey and football games a well as free use of the gym and unlimited dining hall food. There's a large amount of majors ranging from equine to queer studies to education.
What to do for fun Lots of clubs, organizations and sports. Comedy shows and hall socials happen on a weekly basis as well as the occasional concert at the Whit. There's always some fun to be had on the weekends, and if you want to get off campus free busses will take you into Portsmouth, Newington or other nearby locations.
Food and Dining Best college food. Three dining halls with good food as well as many smaller convince stores and resturaunts in the area. School convinence stores such as Wild Cotessant and Phillbrook cafe offer food, smoothies coffee and other snacks and necessities.
Dorm Life The dorms at UNH are all different, while Stoke (which houses 650+ students) is always very social and loud on the weekends, which is what I love about it. There's a few other large residence halls as well. On the other hand there are other very quiet smaller residence halls such as Sawyer or the Upper Quad. It all depends on what you prefer.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is going to depend on the courses you're taking. I know kids who have what seems to be a crazy work load and others who barely have homework, most kids fall in the middle, there's a good amount of school work but nothing that'll kill you.
Tips for prospective students Bring a bike, rain boots and backpack, make sure you go to your lectures and study for your exams. Get involved, and keep your dorm door open to meet people.
In three sentences Incredible, The campus is beautiful and the buildings are all up to date. UNH offers a wide verity of classes and the option to minor or double major in any subject of your choice. There's always people around and something to do!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are police reports when something has happened, and they get sent as soon as they know about. There are also emergency lights that have a button, which once pushed will send dispatch to the location and I believe(never had to use one) someone comes over a little intercom to help assist you and find out what the issue is.
Greek Life Tons of greek life. I have a ton of friends who participate.
Clubs and Activities Tons, something for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Huge hockey school.
Bang for the buck UNH is the most expensive school for an instate student, but a lot of that money goes toward facilities that students then can go and enjoy for free all school year, such as the gym, swimming pool, computer labs, and much more.
What to do for fun There are a ton of events planned throughout the year at UNH, many of them are even free for students. There are concerts by some top stars, snoop dog and guster have played within the last few years. There are activities such as bingo, tie dyeing, and lectures from important people like Bill Clinton, who just did a talk about a week ago.
Food and Dining UNH has one of the top dining experiences. They are all about health and try to help you out with what food you should try out. Also heard that they are in the running for on of the top vegan sections at a university.
Dorm Life With as many dorm buildings as there are academic buildings, there is a place for you. Each dorm has activities for everyone to participate in. There are even some themed dorms to you find people with common interest.
Tips for prospective students Spend a day at the campus. If you have a major in mind, see if you can go to one of the classes.
In three sentences Beautiful campus. Tons of majors to try and choose from. Plenty of activities to do, and most are free to students. With a population of about 12,000, there is no problem finding people with similar common interest as you.

Dorm Life I am currently living off campus in a large co-ed house so I don't know that much about dorm life.

Tips for prospective students Come and visit the school to check out the campus life and classes available!

Tips for prospective students There are many opportunities out there such as research, internships, study abroad, etc. but they won't fall into your lap! You must seek them out and be proactive!

Bang for the buck Nom it's very expensive even for instate tuition.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are pretty good and are mainly concerned about safety. They aren't hagglers unless someone is causing a dangerous situation. The blue lights on campus are also comforting; you push one if you are in danger and the police will track you and come to your rescue.
Greek Life There is Greek Life at UNH and it's pretty stereotypical. They live in nice houses and throw huge parties (sometimes very dangerous for females) which get shut down by the police.
Clubs and Activities There is almost every sort of club imaginable, from swing dance to bird calling.
Great for these types of students party people or super nerds.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As an incoming freshman you will be lined up down the sidewalk to pet the stone mascot (a wildcat).
Bang for the buck If you are in an in-state student, UNH is the place to go. Probably 85% of the UNH student body is from NH. The out of state tuition is a little outrageous for this school unless you are going into the engineering program.
What to do for fun Durham is a very rural area, so there isn't much to do. Most UNH students party in their free time, but there are many many clubs to join for fun. There's even a hammock club and a juggling club! Downtown Durham on the edge of campus has some cute coffee shops and a pizza place to hang out in, but that's about it.
Food and Dining The food at UNH is amazing. There's a sushi bar, omelet bar, stir fry bar, endless cereal, all day waffles--anything, you name it. The nice thing about these dining halls is that you swipe a card and you can eat, and create, anything you want for as long as you want! Other schools make students pay for individual items like a grocery store, but at UNH it's like having your own endless kitchen.
Dorm Life Dorm life really depends on your personality. If you love the party life, staying up until 2 a.m. every night and hiding alcohol under your bed then there are abundant places for you to live (i.e. Stoke, Williamson, Christainson). There are also themed living for all of us other people, which is really nice. There is a chem free dorm (no alcohol or drugs), honors dorm, sports lovers dorm, leadership dorm and music dorm. As a freshman there's a large chance you will end up in a place with puke covered floors and very loud neighbors, but it is easy to find a nice place to live and switch into it once on campus.
Academic Rigor UNH definitely is not the hardest school out there, but your determination level will reflect your education when you graduate. If you want to breeze by and learn nothing, showing minima effort then you most definitely can. There is also the opportunity to really challenge yourself for a quality education if you seek that as well.
Tips for prospective students Though UNH isn't an Ivy League school, prepare to work for your grade. It's very easy to fall into the partying, care free lifestyle but that will lead you to also fall into low GPAs.
In three sentences This school has a lot of helpful professors, a beautiful campus and many many opportunities! This is the place to go for clubs, abundant resources, work study jobs and great food. The only downfall is its waning reputation from the growing party scene, but there are places such as the Englehardt Chem-Free dorm to get away from that lifestyle.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I recommend always walking with a friend but making the trip from the library at 2 am by yourself isn't always terrible.
Greek Life Many different types of recognized and unrecognized fraternities and sororities that if its what your looking to do you will find a place to fit in.
Clubs and Activities There is anything you can imagine, i specially recoomend the PAWS program for incoming freshman and the outdoor clubs.
Great for these types of students People who like to work hard and play hard.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The first week of school has so many freshman activities that are tons of fun.
Bang for the buck It is pricy but there are resources on campus to help find scholarships and every little thing counts.
What to do for fun Athletics, clubs, Greek life, anything else you can imagine is offered.
Food and Dining My family loves coming to visit just so they can eat in the dining halls... we spend hours in there eating anything you can imagine.
Dorm Life All dorm life residence halls are unique and each has a different atmosphere. There is one for everyone and the options for changing mid semester are always available if you are not happy where you end up.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but there are enough resources for everyone to be successful.
Tips for prospective students Definitely come and sit in on a few classes and hang out for a weekend night to get the full experience.
In three sentences I love this school, the academics, dining, social interactions and everything else it has to offer are perfect. Categories Comments Campus Safety A lot of cops and emergency buttons around campus keep things safe
Bang for the buck With first class laboratories and professors UNH puts it's money to good use.
What to do for fun There is so much to do from sports games at the Whit to taking a bus into Portsmouth for the day, if you're bored you are obviously not doing something right.
Food and Dining Absolutely stellar dining facilities. Friendly staff work their best to provide a wide array of different types of food served fresh everyday. Everything from grilled salmon and sushi to prime rib and even vegan and gluten free sections.
Dorm Life Honestly depends where you live, it varies so much. In the freshman dorms life is insanely unpredictable and often unbearable, but in others it is much more peaceful and studious
Academic Rigor Academics range in difficulty by your major, I'm an engineering student so of course the classes I am taking are by default above what many students may experience in degree of difficulty
Tips for prospective students Take as many AP classes as you can in high school to lessen the classes you have to take in college, like freshman english. Learn to study and be an independent learner, there are academic resources available but no one but yourself makes you work hard for your grades.
In three sentences A comprehensive liberal arts university that has some world class opportunities and programs in the fields of science, engineering, math and business. The helpful professors, staff and students will make sure that you personally succeed in your academic goals at UNH.

Categories Comments Food and Dining For a university, the food and dining halls are very impressive.
Dorm Life The dorm life is as anyone would expect it to be. I have had the chance to live in a quad my freshman year and I love it. The housing department really tries to put you with roommates that will have similar likes and that you will get along with.
Academic Rigor This University expects the best work out of their students. The classes are challenging but overall very helpful.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire is an all around beautiful and great school. The faculty is inspiring and try to help you pass every single one of your classes. The environment is very positive and there's always someone waiting to help you get where you want to be in life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is well lit and very safe, I have never felt at danger.
Greek Life There is plenty of greek life for everyone, of any kind.
Clubs and Activities There are sports and clubs for everyone on campus. You'll be entertained and make many new friendships through these programs. They have college republicans, knitting club and extracurricular sports teams like soccer and softball.
Great for these types of students Winter loving and winter sports loving students. We are fantastic at Hockey!
Bang for the buck Depending on the program you attend, for example UNH has a great Engineering programs which is significantly cheaper than a big engineering school in the city for example Northeastern.
What to do for fun There are activities scheduled every weekend and during the week for all students. Dorms will post the events, and they are usually free or fairly cheap.
Food and Dining The dining halls are great, they have many options for everyone! There are three dining halls on campus an many little food stores and little fast food places, as well as a grocery store no more than 10min walk away from anywhere on campus.
Dorm Life The big dorms are great to meet people and make friends especially for first year students. Sometimes they are not conducive to studying but there are many other places on campus that are.
Academic Rigor It all depends on you area of study, the engineering and nursing school are very rigorous, other programs I cant say because I have no experience with them. As long as you work hard and devote yourself you can do well.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you research the dorms you apply to live in, some of them aren't so great.
In three sentences UNH is a fantastic school that has a lot of programs for all students to study. The school offers many activities for students to learn, expand their skills and themselves and their entertainment. You wont just graduate here with a degree but life skills and profession skills.

Categories Comments Campus Safety So many jokes about campus cops, their race cars for our 25mph campus lol. It's a safe place though.
Bang for the buck It's really freaking expensive, especially for out-of-staters like myself. But I've found financial aid to be somewhat fair in dealings.
What to do for fun Can take the Wildcat transit to Dover, Newmarket, and Portsmouth. Bingo night, Free skate at the Whitt, and MUB movies seem pretty popular too.
Food and Dining Pretty good selection of food and different locations of availability.
Dorm Life Dorm life is incredible as long as you try to meet the people on your floor. The horror stories are always about the floors who refuse to communicate with each other. Gotta make friends to have a good time.
Academic Rigor I've found professors to be fair and demanding. Don't cheat, do your work on time, and study for exams.
Tips for prospective students Keep your dorm room doors open all the time, you'll meet so many awesome people. Having a great floor and meeting people that you live near is key to a great college experience. Don't through education out the window for partying it up, it's not worth wasting your money if you don't want to learn anything.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful and clean. There is great access to activities and student involvement. The Study Abroad programs are fantastic and life-changing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe
Greek Life Prominent
Clubs and Activities Hard to find the right one, most are science or agricultural or athletic. Very few community service options
Great for these types of students Outdoorsy
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus College woods are a beautiful place to run in the fall.
Bang for the buck Out of state students get a little gipped. High prices and very VERY few scholarship opportunities.
What to do for fun Hockey games are pretty much the only event on campus on weekends.
Food and Dining Food is top rated.
Dorm Life Some dorms are old and out dated, and fees due to damage are rising.
Academic Rigor If you put the work in, you'll get an A.
Tips for prospective students Bring lots of coats.
In three sentences It's a very beautiful school that is very well-maintained. Everyone is very welcoming and accepting for the most part. It's very science driven, requiring two science courses as gen eds.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many student clubs, sports, intramurals and the like. enough so that every one should be able to find a few things to their liking. If for some reason they didn't, you can make your own.
Food and Dining The food at UNH is often praised and has ranked somewhere within the upper top 50 schools for their dining. There are three dining halls which offer quite a few options, and as a general rule, there is enough seating as well as the food being pretty good.
Dorm Life While many people at UNH are satisfied with their dorms and roommates, there are also many that are not. The freshman dorms have great energy and community, however are often small and loud. The SERCs on the other hand are large (for a dorm) and often quiet, but there is very little sense of community.
Academic Rigor Rigor depends major to major. The Mechanical engineering program for example is extremely rigorous, while it seems that business is much less so. Some of that can be attributed to the nature of the beast, as these two programs are expected to have different challenges.
Tips for prospective students Do your research before hand. There are many different dorms, all with different personalities. There are also many different majors, some of which are better than others.
In three sentences Quality programs and equipment, although funded by a high priced state school. Many clubs and activities that are well funded. Dorm life is different dorm to dorm.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is great because they are not super strict but care about you and others around you. Just stay out of trouble by not being a danger to yourself or others.
Greek Life I am not in Greek life but a close friend of mine is in a sorority and she says that she is so happy she joined it and she absolutely loves it.
Clubs and Activities I personally am not in any clubs but there are so many on campus that I know of! I wanted to be more concentrated on academics the first year so I didn't look that much into it.
Great for these types of students UNH is a great place for anyone because there are so many different places that everyone can fit in and find their niche.
Bang for the buck I am really happy that I chose to go here. The campus is beautiful no matter what season and you meet so many friends so its fun inside even if the weather is bad.
What to do for fun There are a crazy amount of activities that the school provides for you. There are hundreds of clubs to join, and plenty of parties on the weekends!
Food and Dining Two things I really appreciate about the dining halls are the variety of foods and the nutrition facts posted above the food being served. The food is great and there are some things in the dining halls that are bad for you but if you have everything in moderation you won't gain the freshman fifteen!
Dorm Life I love dorm life. It is such a great way to meet friends, its like being in a neighborhood where all your best friends live right next to you. Also there are quiet hours so people are considerate about other people's sleeping habits, and during finals quiet hours are extended so everyone can study together and get a good nights sleep!
Academic Rigor It can definitely be challenging, but if you put in your best effort and do your work on time you will definitely be fine. Also there are many resources to help you succeed.
Tips for prospective students I fell in love my first visit to the school. Don't room with your best friend from home; branch out and meet new people because that is what college is for. Also take discovery classes to help you find out what to do! There are plenty of places to go night and day but always put school first, after all that is what you are paying for.
In three sentences A great place to meet new people and discover new interests with an exceptionally friendly staff and a welcoming environment. There are amazing resources available from a free gym to learning centers, both with reasonable hours. Overall a beautiful campus and a great place to learn and experience college!

Categories Comments What to do for fun No matter what you like to do for fun, you are able to find something to do.
Tips for prospective students It would be helpful to do an overnight stay with a current student and have them show you around the school. It can seem overwhelming at first given that it is a large campus with a lot of students.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire is a fun and generally welcoming place to attend college. There are countless opportunities at the students' fingertips whether they be academic or social. There is a very large array of major programs that will appeal to anyones specific interests.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is great around campus. If you feel the need to be escorted someone will come and help you, and I never have to feel worry about walking around campus at night.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of clubs and activities to do at UNH. The problem is deciding which ones to chose from, because there is so much!
What to do for fun All depends on the season. During the fall and spring you can do almost anything outdoors. During the summer you can go to the beach, it's just a twenty minute drive away. The winter is where you have to improvise by going sledding with some friends or ice skating in the arena.
Food and Dining The food is always fresh, and taste great. There is however a little lack of variety so creativity for meals is in order.
Dorm Life Specific dorms have variety of people. Everyone is super friendly and your neighbors become your best friends.
Academic Rigor Classes involve a lot of work, but you learn a lot and if you keep up you will be fine.
Tips for prospective students Study! Find the best way to study on certain subjects, because everything you do depends on how well you do on the exams.
In three sentences University of New Hampshire is an experience you will never forget. Great people, great professors, and most of all great university all together. Even though I am a Freshman, this university makes me feel at home.

Dorm Life Do random to find a good roommate and apply to a dorm you think you would fit in well.
Academic Rigor There's some classes with alot of work and others with not as much.
Tips for prospective students Read all of the dorm information before applying for one. Look at the list of discovery courses to see if classes for your major already fulfill a discovery course.
In three sentences The University of New Hampshire it large and diverse. It is in a good location near the ocean and near Portsmouth. The teachers and classes are all really interesting as well.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck THE most expensive state school.
Food and Dining Good food, and it's buffet style with unlimited swipes for those living in the dorms.
Dorm Life A little overcrowded but the people are usually pretty nice and helpful. There's a dorm to fit everyone's needs.
Academic Rigor It's not a joke, but it's not too hard either.
Tips for prospective students Be proactive, you have to be the one looking out for yourself.
In three sentences It's a party school with not a lot of diversity. There are opportunities for research. You have to work to get the most out of it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun UNH is definitely known for being a party school. But there is more to do than that. There are always socials going on in the dorms, sporting events, student events and dining events going on on campus!
Food and Dining UNH has some of the best food on any campus in the country. There are three dinning halls each with a great variety of food that is very good quality. You will hardly miss home-cooked food!
Dorm Life There is a great variety of dorms on campus! There are crazy freshmen dorms, very fun and social dorms, honor student dorms, small dorms, huge dorms, quiet dorms, ect. It really depends on the experience you are looking for! All dorms have RAs that host fun socials that give you a chance to make friends!
Academic Rigor You will be busy with school work, especially when you are an upperclassman. But, if you are used to working hard in high school it is definitely something that you can handle! It really depends a lot on what major you have whether or not you have a crazy amount of work.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to live in a freshmen dorm. They can be crazy and not the nicest buildings, but that is where you are going to make tons of friends!
In three sentences UNH is a school that I instantly felt right at home at. The campus is beautiful, it's the perfect size school, and there are a ton of majors. I am so happy here and I glad I didn't end up anywhere else!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are a lot of cops, and the response time is excellent if something bad does happen.
Great for these types of students Hockey fans, Skiers, and party goers.
Bang for the buck For in state students UNH tuition is fairly cheap. There are great opportunities within each major for scholarships. Just keep your grades up and it will be like geting your degree for free.
What to do for fun SKI SKI SKI. If you love the mountians UNH has a ski club that has a very affordable and flexible plan to get you up and on the slopes.
Food and Dining UNH dining is by far the best college food I have had. I am now an undergraduate at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the food just does not compare.
Dorm Life I lived in SERC A. For engineering students it may seem like a great place to live but in my opinion it is not. It is very quite. It can lead to a very hard time especially for engineering students that already have loads of work and have a hard time finding a social life anyways. There are however many choices when it comes to dorms and on campus apartments so somewhere should fit you.
Academic Rigor I was a freshman at UNH so I did not have much in terms of the rigor of the classes. this comes down to your majot. I was a Chemical Enginnering undergraduate at UNH and the vigor was moderate for my freshman year,
Tips for prospective students Get yourself out of the dorm and go to T-hall lawn and meet people in the warm months, and attend all the events the the CAD organizes. Study hard while making friends that will be able to help you in your studies.
In three sentences UNH is great if you make the most of it. There are people to meet around every corner. It can however be a mismatch as it is a very large campus.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is big here because UNH kids love the party, and the frats are always throwing down, but most students arenâ??t involved in greek life themselves. If you are interested in greek life, though, the fraternities and sororities are well-known and really involved on campus.
Great for these types of students Students who live by the motto â??Work hard, play hardâ??. Students who see the social aspect of attending college to be as important as the academic aspect, and who want to graduate with great memories and lifelong friends, as well as a degree. Come to UNH.
Bang for the buck Tuition is relatively low for in-state students. If youâ??re an out-of-state student, tuition is going to be more expensive, but the cost is about the standard cost for any public state university. Also, UNH is pretty good about giving students financial aid, so youâ??re almost guaranteed to get some sort of aid through the school every year.
What to do for fun UNH is a party school. If you come to UNH expecting a lot of your socializing to be based around drinking and going to parties, you wonâ??t be disappointed. But if youâ??re not the partying type, thereâ??s still so much to do. There are a plethora of clubs on campus to choose from, as well as activities up the ying-yang happening on a daily basis. Whatever youâ??re into, you wonâ??t be bored.
Food and Dining UNH is known for having some of the best campus food in the country. It tastes good (by college food standards), thereâ??s a huge variety, itâ??s buffet-style so youâ??ll get your moneyâ??s worth, and if you want to eat healthy, are vegetarian, or have a gluten allergy, the dining halls have options that will cater to your needs.
Dorm Life The dorms vary greatly in how nice they are and what their overall atmosphere is like. If youâ??re an incoming freshman who wants to meet a lot of other freshman and doesnâ??t mind not-so-nice dorms, Stoke or one of the other freshman dorms are for you. If youâ??re looking for really nice dorms and a more quiet atmosphere, the SERCs are going to be more your style.
Academic Rigor This really varies depending on your major. If youâ??re an Engineering on Computer Science major, youâ??re gonna have some sleepless nights. If youâ??re majoring in English or a soft science, youâ??ll probably breeze through your classes with flying colors and you might actually feel like youâ??re not being challenged enough.
Tips for prospective students Make sure the environment of a big state school is what you want. Live on campus and put yourself out there, go out of your way to meet new people, attend different clubs/activities, and you will have a blast at UNH. Youâ??re going to need to learn how to manage your time between academics and all of your activities. And bring lots of warm clothes. The winters are rough here.
In three sentences UNH is a very fun school to go to with a vibrant social scene and tons of clubs and activities. The campus is beautiful and Durham is definitely a college town. The academics range from excellent to sub-par depending on your major/program, and just like at any other school, the professors do too.
