Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

I give UNO a 5-star in education for the buck. The education is great, and definitely worth the tuition price. My problem are the extra fees UNO tacks on. Such as the Fitness Center fee.. whether you use it or not, you pay for it. Or the Academic Excellence fee which is a fee for.... being excellent? Or the Fuel Recovery charge for the on-campus electric generator. And on-campus meals are EXPENSIVE. The on-campus bookstore way overcharges for their books, but that is what half.com is for. So all-in-all, the education is worth the tuition, the fees are ridiculous, the meal & book prices are ridiculous as well.

Andrea from Slidell, LA
Just before I started school I was worried about how I would pay for college, during orientation we were shown how UNO students can check our financial aid. I was still worried about how I would pay for books and housing, but then I was told that I can rent books and pay for housing on my tuition, and that any remaining money would be placed in my bank account. Then I found out about all of the free assistance and other things we can get, such as free rental DVDs and job search assistance. In the end I really didn't have to worry about anything.
