For fun most students join clubs and participate in their activities, attend fraternity parties off-campus and go to basketball/football games. UNC's close proximity to Franklin Street in Chapel Hill provide ample opportunities for students to experience student-oriented nightlife. There are also many on-campus events every weekend for students to participate in such as movie viewings, formal dances, and performances.

There are different shops and clubs on Franklin St., Southpoint mall in Durham is 10 minutes away (you can catch the bus) and the university also hosts events throughout the week and weekend like concerts or movie screenings that are free or of little cost to students.
