Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are a social, laid back person then UNCW is for you. The people here are absolutely wonderful. They are so easy to get along with and are always eager to make new friends.
Tips for prospective students I would say get involved early. It's a wonderful experience to feel connected with my school community by being a part of clubs. Take advantage of all the opportunity at UNCW, but at the same time academics are crucial. That is above and beyond the most important part of going to college. Start early with you studying; halfway through the semester is not the time to decide that you want to start studying.
Bang for the buck Apparently this is one of the cheapest in state schools to go to, but you would never know. They do a wonderful job using your tuition money wisely, especially with the economy these days.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere of this school is absolutely fantastic. When I step on the campus I feel an immediate sense of community, which is really important to me. I enjoy all of the facilities provided, especially the dining halls and the rec center. They really do a good job keeping up with the landscaping and the aesthetics. It's a great place to be.
Am learning a lot Although I've only been attending for a semester, I really enjoyed the professors here. Colleges employ professors to earn a reputation for the school with their research. Many schools don't even care about the teaching; as long as the teacher's research is getting the school recognized, the teacher is left alone. At UNCW, the students are required to submit evaluations of the professor. In my opinion, this keeps the teachers on track. Each professor made it easy to approach them about questions I had, either by office hours or emails. This ensures learning because it is easy to learn from such great professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Wilmington is a very sociable place. Walking down Chancellor's you will always see someone you know and it's great to see all your friends around campus. I thought I wasn't going to like the weather but honestly the heat was not an issue for me, because there is great AC in the dorms and apartments and it's only really hot for about two months!
Tips for prospective students Don't be intimidated to join clubs, organizations, Greek life, religious organizations and other groups. These are the BEST ways to meet friends that have common interests. I am involved in the equestrian team, Greek life, and two religious organizations and these people are some of my best friends.
Bang for the buck Wilmington is a big enough city where there is tons of stuff to do but it's not like the campus is really spread out like State is. Wilmington offers a bunch of unique opportunities such as the ocean, close shopping, eclectic downtown area, historic landmarks, great professors, and tons of great opportunities on campus too.
Am enjoying being here I am a transfer student from Appalachian State University and I'm just going to let you know, its a complete 180 from there. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and after about a week you know where all the buildings are. All the academic buildings are on this big long walk called Chancellor's Walk so if you're looking for your classroom, start there. During the first week Student Ambassador's are out there helping lost students and giving away free lemonade and water. Oh, and you probably already know this but the weather is gorgeous. It was the second week of November and I was out on the beach-where else can you do that?!
Am learning a lot I am a transfer student from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Wilmington has been such an amazing experience. The professors are extremely helpful and approachable. My favorite class of the week is my 8:00am Tuesday-Thursday which is quite surprising, not many students would love their 8:00am! College is not a cake walk, I'm not going to lie, but if you do the work you will reap the benefits and the grades. I've managed to maintain on Dean and Chancellor's List these past two years.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are seeking to get a Chemistry Major, I recommend this school. I cannot begin to tell you how much I have learned just this past semester. The Instructors help their students to grasp what they are teaching and offer so much extra help it is unreal. I will be taking the MCAP next year and feel comfortable that I will place high enough because of the instruction that I have had these last 2 years.
Tips for prospective students Be involved from Day 1, do not sit back and hope to make friends - make it happen. Homesickness is a common problem among freshmen and I even experienced it myself. I got involved with every club that I could fit into my schedule and became so busy with organizations and meeting others that soon it became very clear that I am a True Teal Sea Hawk (Our Mascot and school color by the way) and I am determined to graduate with High Honors.
Bang for the buck The cost to attend this school is cheaper than schools closer to my home and the Admissions Department really go out of their way in finding financial aide to assist my tuition.
Am enjoying being here I love the coast and being 5 minutes away from the beautiful beach makes this school even better. It's great after being in class, heading down to the beach for some relaxation and quite study time - Who could ask for more.
Am learning a lot I looked at several colleges before choosing UNCW and I can say it is the best decision that I could have made. Student to Teacher ratio is better than average making it easier to get assistance from an instructor when needed. I am a Chemistry major and of course my classes are going to be difficult, but if I begin to struggle in an area, I know that there are always open labs and teacher aides to offer me extra guidance. Free Help is always available upon request.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you don't like party people, don't stay in Galloway. It's six floors of constant party.
Bang for the buck Obviously, college is far too expensive for anyone's tastes, but otherwise it's a great school for the money!
Am enjoying being here I love it here. The people are really chill and you're only minutes away from the beach.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Surfers, skaters, athletes, book worms, party animals, and friendly people will all love UNCW. It can provide for all types of people, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Tips for prospective students Talk to everyone at orientation and keep in touch with them until the school year starts because they could be your friends for a while. It sounds overrated, but get involved. Hang out on campus a lot and figure out where your classes are before the first day.
Bang for the buck I am not currently paying for my school, but I will be paying off loans later in life. I am not looking forward to it, but anywhere you go to school will be expensive. It's not the cheapest school ever, but it's really nice and worth it.
Am enjoying being here The environment is laid back, friendly, and gorgeous. The campus isn't too big or too small. You see a lot of the same people which is nice because you have familiar faces around. You can make friends in your dorm, classes, or anywhere else on campus.
Am learning a lot The classes at UNCW are very helpful, especially if you pay attention and do your work. You will learn a lot you didn't know before, and as you move into your major you will learn even more that interests you. I would recommend going to school here for anyone, especially if you love the beach!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great University for students who want a laid back environment, those who do not want to be overwhelmed by a enormous campus and student body. Those who want to feel involved with the university and the decisions being made that will effect their education. Students who do not want to paying back student loans for the rest of their lives and of course those students who want to live the BEACH life.
Tips for prospective students Get involved early, there are involvement fairs at the beginning of each semester but you can always join clubs, groups and organizations at anytime. It is a great way to meet people and make new friends. Other than that just be prepared to have a life changing experience.
Bang for the buck This is by far one of the cheapest state schools that combine superb academics and reputation for a reasonable price. It is very possible to work part time and pay for your tuition at the same time. The school also offers programs that allow you to work in a variety of areas of the school to pay for tuition and financial aid. If you are looking to get a good quality education that you can be proud of that you will not be paying off for the rest of your life, you will not find anywhere better.
Am enjoying being here I love it here at UNCW. The environment is very laid back and the campus is very easy to navigate. The campus is centrally located in the city of Wilmington. You are 7 minutes from the beach and 7 minutes from the clubs and unique shops of historic downtown Wilmington. The weather never gets too cold and perfect in the summer. Everyone here is friendly and approachable. You can not find a better environment anywhere.
Am learning a lot I am a completely different person from when I graduated high school to my current self. I am a junior at UNCW and I have learned so much that I do not even know where to begin. The teachers except for those rare few are all caring individuals that are very concerned with whether their students are learning and understanding the material presented in class. My knowledge base has already far exceeded what I expected before I began studying here at UNCW. The professors really try to involve their students in the learning process. The students rate the professors at the end of each semester in a variety of characteristics which ensures that you do not get a professor that just sits back and says read the book. There is a system here at UNCW that allows you to always be able to communicate with your professors by either email, phone calls, personal counseling and review sessions to ensure that you get all the help that you will ever need to ensure success. There are also many free tutoring services offered on campus.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Surfers or hippies. Anyone who is laid back but willing to work hard to get their degree.
Tips for prospective students Get ready for the heat. Definitely don't expect to skip classes and be able to get by...it wont work. Don't assume UNCW is just a party school and you wont have to work hard because you'll end of failing out within a semester. Finally, bring your swimsuit because the beach is where its at.
Bang for the buck Tuition is VERY cheap for in-state compared to many other options. The summer school tuition prices are also very reasonable for those students who want to take summer credits. The campus entertainment organizations are always playing a movie in the theater or having some kind of comedy or drama act, and it is usually either free or just a couple dollars to attend, so that is definitely a plus.
Am enjoying being here The campus is located in a great city, and there is always something to do on and around campus. The students are all friendly and are willing to help if you ask. It's always nice to be able to go to the beach after class for a tan. Although there is some diversity at UNCW, but a great majority of the students seem to be white surfer girls/guys.
Am learning a lot The faculty are friendly and more than willing to offer help. They seem like they really want to get to know the students. Many of the faculty are also very well educated and really make an effort to teach the material in a way that is understandable for all students. Another cool thing about the faculty is that they don't pretend that they don't know what students do during their free time like many professors do.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The general student body at UNC Wilmington is very laid back. There is a very chill vibe, in fact many students come here for the beach. Academically speaking, there is not a whole lot of competition or drive per say, however the students are still genuinely knowledgeable and successful. There is a lot of focus on looking nice and going out. Some would call the people here lots of fun, while others might say they are superficial; it all just depends on what type of person you are. Being here, you never forget you are in the south, as everyone has excellent manners and there is always that southern hospitality.
Tips for prospective students One of the most important things to take into account is the social atmosphere. During the first semester of college, many students tend to feel isolated, so it helps being surrounded by people whose company you enjoy and whose values you share. Also, make sure UNCW offers the majors you are considering, and it would definitely help to tour the school and the surrounding town, preferably during the academic year so you can get a vibe of what a typical day on the campus is like.
Bang for the buck I'd say it is a bit overpriced, especially if you are paying out of state tuition, however compared to most schools, the price is relatively alright. There are a myriad of resources available that most students are paying for but do not take advantage of. Examples include the rec center, tutoring services, counseling, career planning, you can even see a nutritionist at no cost. There are also many ways to reduce costs, such as not having a car on campus and using your whole meal plan instead of off-campus grocery shopping.
Am enjoying being here I have found that one of the biggest predictors of whether or not you will enjoy being here is if you are a good fit socially. The study population is very homogeneous and whether or not you have things in common with your peers can really make a difference in how integrated you feel. Also, the campus is beautiful and there is pleasant scenery everywhere you go, not to mention the beach a few miles away.
Am learning a lot In regards to education, it is what you make of it. While it is easy to get distracted and join the herds of unmotivated students, there are plenty of ways to ensure you are getting a quality education here. You simply have to be proactive about it. At UNCW, there are quality professors who want you to learn, and the Learning Center has plenty of resources available to make sure you are retaining the course material. Even by simply attending class every day, you are already ahead of the crowd.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students -loves warm weather & the beach -very active (working out and playing sports) -has school spirit (even for basketball games since we don't have a football team) -laid back person who is spontaneous and fun!
Tips for prospective students -get ready for some flooding on campus... pack rain boots!! -randall library can get really crowded during finals week so find a secret study spot somewhere else on campus! -sign up your team early for the Oozeball tournament (mud volleyball) -Dub's Cafe has really good ice cream -get a bike, it really makes your trip to class a lot faster! -be outside as much as possible! -GET INVOLVED :)
Bang for the buck I was so suprised how cheap this school is compared to even In-State schools in NJ. Definitely worth the price!!!
Am enjoying being here I absolutely LOVE this school. Being from the north (NJ), I am completely enjoying the warm weather and going to the beach until it finally gets cold in November! Our campus really embraces Seahawk Nation as the main color teal can be seen everywhere. There are so many different activities and clubs to get involved in when you're not in class. GET INVOLVED :)
Am learning a lot Although UNCW has requirements for all students to take Basic Studies courses that you may not want to take, embrace every single class you are enrolled in. I didn't want to take a phys ed class in the beginning, but it was a great experience and I learned a lot. English classes are the best here!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you love warm weather, and are very social, this is the school for you. It's also a great school if you're interested in marine bio, nursing, or education. My deciding factor was ultimately the beach, but I also loved the atmosphere!
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus. I would have never considered this school if I didn't visit it. I worked hard in high school and needed a great college to go to, and on paper, UNCW didn't look as prestigious as say, UNC or The University of Michigan. However, after visiting, I saw how beautiful the campus was, and learned about their Honors Program. I also learned that UNCW is actually right there with UNC's scores and rankings. Who knew?!
Bang for the buck UNCW was very nice to my wallet being an out of state student. The school I was deciding between in my home state (The University of Michigan) was actually the same cost as me going out of state to North Carolina. Thanks UNCW!
Am enjoying being here Living by the beach is a huge plus. Also, being from the north, I had no idea how friendly the culture in the south is. I feel welcomed and loved....even though I'm a yankee.
Am learning a lot I am currently enrolled in the Honors Scholars Program at UNCW. OF COURSE I am learning a lot! If you are interested in this school, check out this program. It allows you to have smaller honors classes so that you have more one-on-one time with your professors, and also provides you with unique opportunities whether it be field trips or guest speakers. The Honors Program and their classes go above and beyond what I would receive in the general classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is great! The campus police are very friendly and willing to help in any situation. They are always patrolling and can be seen or found throughout campus. There are also call boxes that are spread throughout campus. When an individual is at one call box at least one other call box is already in site.
Clubs and Activities Wilmington offers a wide array of clubs from academic to athletic. There are also Intramural sports that are slightly less competitive than club sports. There is also a movie theater, varsity sporting events, and various other activities offered all the time at Wilmington
Bang for the buck Wilmington is worth every penny spent. It has the top of the line education, the perfect location, and the fun never stops. Even though you are attending school, it will feel like a beach vacation trip the entire time
What to do for fun Of course at Wilmington there is the beach where opportunities are endless. You can swim, surf, play sports on the sand, or just relax. If you head away from the beach there is downtown Wilmington where you can go on a tour of an old Battleship, go to a Serpentarium, or go to any of the restaurants. On campus there is a movie theater, a great recreation center that will very shortly have 100,000 square feet added and two pools, and arguably one of the most beautiful campuses in North Carolina.
Food and Dining Whether you like a good home cooked meal or you like fast food, Wilmington has it all. If you would like a nice home style meal, then Wagoner Hall and Dubâs Caf© is for you. On the other hand though, if you like fast food then Hawkâs Nest is just the place for you. At Wagoner Hall and Dubâs caf© you can find pasta, a deli bar, a soup and salad bar, pizza, and much more. At Hawkâs Nest is where you will find Subway, Chik-fil-a, Mexican, an Italian food bar, Salad, Varsity Grill, smoothies and even more. The dining experience at Wilmington will leave you wanting more.
Dorm Life The dorm life at UNCW is great! You can make many friends due to the fact that there are all different types of people who have different interests and hobbies, so no matter what you like to do it is likely that someone else has the same interest right down the hall.
Academic Rigor The classes at Wilmington are not for slackers. They are difficult and challenging, but an A is definitely in reach if you push yourself and put in the effort. The instructors present the material in a way that makes it interesting and easy to learn. This does not mean that studying is an option though, studying is a must. For many students, high school is a breeze due to the fact that teachers teach what will be on the test. At Wilmington though, teachers teach the material and expect you to have a full grasp of it. The instructors want you to take the information they provide and be able to see it conceptually.
Tips for prospective students When you come to Wilmington do not hesitate to get involved with something somewhere. Whether you become involved with academic clubs, athletics, or Greek life, get involved and get the most out of your college experience. Also, upon arrival to UNCW make sure that you use your time wisely and master time management as you will have a great deal of free time and freedom that you did not receive from high school.
In three sentences A noun is defined as a person, place, or thing. The University of North Carolina - Wilmington can be compared to the perfect noun. The instructors who teach there are polite and truly care about you and your grades; Wilmington has an ideal location, the beach; there are always things to do at Wilmington no matter what is of interest to the individual.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Wilmington is great for students who love the beach, relaxing and just having a good time.
Tips for prospective students To be as actively involved on campus as they possibly can. Wilmington is thriving with campus activities fit for everyone from the sports enthusiast to the artsy type. Getting involved also helps people meet new people and make new friends.
Bang for the buck So far as in-state tuition goes, this school is one of the cheapest in the state. I firmly believe that this is the best school for the cost.
Am enjoying being here Wilmington campus is beautiful and the students and faculty are always friendly. The school is also very close to the beach which is great for activities, such as surfing, wake boarding, sunbathing, and just hanging out with friends. I love all of these options the campus' close proximity to the beach offers, and the relaxing ambiance this brings to the classrooms.
Am learning a lot Most of the professors genuinely care about whether you are learning in the classroom and offer help outside. There are lots of learning services provided by the school, each more helpful than the next. As a Spanish major, I have had the opportunity to use many of these services and I could not think of a better way to help learn. The quality of education at Wilmington is unprecedented by other schools in the state and I couldn't ask for better professors on my academic journey.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All kinds, being a beach lover helps of course, but the types of careers you can pursue here are endless.
Tips for prospective students Visit! That's how I fell in love with it.
Bang for the buck College is expensive, there is no doubt about it. But I believe Wilmington is worth the cost.
Am enjoying being here Wilmington is absolutely gorgeous - the campus and the city! The campus is just the right size in my opinion. Big enough to not know everyone in sight, but small enough to make it to classes without much trouble. There are so many things to do on and off campus. Everything from intramural sports to concerts to volunteer work on campus, and fine dining and shopping off campus. Let's not forget to mention our most prized possession here...the beach!
Am learning a lot While my high school had some good teachers, I wouldn't say academics were necessarily the best. It is amazing looking back on this year and thinking about how much I have learned. College classes are a great deal different than high school classes. You are expected to do a great deal of studying on your own. While the professors I've had here are wonderful, when you get one who's teaching style is hard for you, it develops your intellect a lot having to learn material on your own. The education here is fabulous, but for any college, be ready to learn on your own!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who want to be involved and have fun. The academics are awesome and the environment makes it even better.
Tips for prospective students Bring a pair of rain boots! When it rains, it floods here. Take time to plan your preferred schedule and an alternative one before your designated registration time. Classes fill up FAST. Long boards and bikes are used all over campus so if you like to do either, bring it with you!
Bang for the buck It is a somewhat expensive school, but it's totally worth attending. There aren't many, if any, people I encounter who don't like the school.
Am enjoying being here Everyone wants to be at school at the beach! The weather is awesome. The school even offers a back-to-school bash on the beach before classes start that is tons of fun and a great way to meet new people. On campus, I feel safe and everyone is very friendly. We have an involvement carnival and many other events where student organizations make an effort to be seen by other students. The dining establishments are very clean and updated.
Am learning a lot The teachers at UNCW are very helpful. There are smaller classrooms, which help with the student/teacher relationships. Most professors want you to engage in class discussions and take time to learn your names. The classes can be challenging, but with the help of on-campus tutors, centers, advisors, and professors, it's nothing you can't handle.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I honestly think every type of student can function well at UNCW. It has something for everyone, except an engineering school. But if you like having fun while learning the knowledge you'll need to thrive for the rest of your life and meeting people who will become lifelong friends that will provide you with vital connections in all fields, then UNCW is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students Study up. It may be a school right beside the beach, even known for some parties, but while you're here, academics are priority to everyone, especially your professors. Also, apply to the honors program. Class sizes are smaller there, there are great discussions, you get to take seminars where you get academic credit for watching sunsets, and it looks great on applications and resumes. Plus, take advantage of UNCW's countless Study Abroad opportunities. You want to study abroad at some point during your four years.
Bang for the buck I'm an out of state student, so college is more expensive for me. While I'm receiving a scholarship that makes it cheaper than my in-state choice of William and Mary, money is still hard to come by. Nonetheless, UNCW is an extremely affordable institution, and provides facilities with the newest technology for your hard-earned cash. Expanding every year and gaining renown with each new graduate, its price is becoming more and more of a bargain deal for a great education and life experience.
Am enjoying being here Wilmington is an amazing locale. Five miles from the beach, the campus is beautiful with its longleaf pines swaying in the cool breeze of a warm day, the scent of wildflowers filling the air... Yeah, it's poetically beautiful. Not only is the campus physically appealing, but the people here are great too. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, everyone is willing to help each other out in true Southern hospitality fashion, and everyone is fun to be with. Not to mention that there is no lack of activities to do in Wilmington, either in the community or on campus itself, with club and intramural sports covering wide ranges, the Cape Fear River nearby, an aquarium, the campus recreation center currently being doubled in size, the beach, Lumina Theater on campus, events like Switchfoot performing in concert, great local restaurants... I could go on and on.
Am learning a lot Though UNCW isn't that well-known of a school, overshadowed by bigger North Carolina Institutions like Chapel Hill, NC State, and Duke, it has top-notch academic programs, especially in its nursing, film studies, creative writing, and marine biology programs. Not all teachers have their doctorates, but they all know what they're talking about. Admittedly, some of my classes have seemed a bit too easy for college level, and that's actually the only reason I'm rating this a 4 instead of a 5.

Tips for prospective students Get involved early on, and try to make friends in the beginning.
Bang for the buck It's a great state school that is definitely cheaper than private schools and offers a great education.
Am enjoying being here Most people are really friendly and it is very easy to get involved.
Am learning a lot There are a lot of students here who are focused on learning, however there are people who do like to just party on their parents dime. Professors are pretty great, and they are very approachable and want you to learn.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek Life on campus is not too large but is ever present. Greeks have many events open to anyone on campus like fundraisers or events and also exclusive Greek activites like Greek Week (a compition between Greeks). There is however minimal Greek housing around campus.
Great for these types of students UNCW is a very artistic campus so students who were involved in visual or performing arts in high school would love UNCW. We also have a huge science department so anyone interested in marine biology will find themselves nurtured on campus.
What to do for fun Around campus we have the movie theatre and Sharky's game room (pool and DDR) as well as a pool and a gym to work out in. Off campus the beach is 15 minutes away and the mall is nearby as well. Also downtown there are numerous clubs and the riverfront is a great romantic spot.
Food and Dining There are three dining halls on campus: Wagoner Hall, Hawks Nest, and Dub's Cafe. Wagoner hall is buffet style and has the BEST breakfast while Dub's Cafe is similar to Wag but with fewer choices. Hawks Nest is the dining hall on campus where you will find Chickfila and Quiznoes as well as other resturant style places.
Dorm Life My RA this past year was such an awesome person; she was really helpful and listened to all of my problems through the year. The dorm I lived in was suite style with two rooms connected by a common room, so there was much more room than I expected.
Academic Rigor I took a minimum of 15 hours a semester and the coarseload was rigorous for me. My academic classes like biology or chemistry challenged me while my electives like theatre and music provided a break in the day while fulfilling requirements.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to go to your professors for help; they are all super helpful and willing to adjust and meet for extra help. Make sure you go to lots of campus events (don't worry, there are a TON of them); they're a great way to get involved and meet new people. Lastly, as exciting as college is, make sure you study; freedom is exciting but school comes first.
In three sentences UNCW is a beautiful and asthetically pleasing campus that I have called home for the past year. The professors are knowledgeable and extremely helpful as well as the RAs and people in power. Also being so close to the beach is a huge plus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue emergency buttons where you can see one from the other. Cops are full sworn in cops that are easy to get along with and are at your disposure.
Greek Life Greek Life is a little different here. It is a very well known thing and everyone likes most of the Greek people. There are only a couple psycho chapters, but most everybody else has a good time and gets things done.
Clubs and Activities The school always has something going on. Whether its the movie playing on campus every weekend, or a tradition each month, or a fun event each weekend.
Great for these types of students Well rounded Willing to try new things looking for a good time talented
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Oozeball-mud volleyball tournament each Spring. Dub Idol-campus singing competition Festapalooza- last day of classes mini carnival Sport events are always happening and fun to watch many more!
Bang for the buck We are on the top 10 list of value for your education. Its not too crazy expensive for the good education and amazing college life you get.
What to do for fun There is always something fun to do! The beach is really close as well as downtown which has plenty of shops and restaraunts. People here are also a lot of fun and the school has plenty of fun tradition events all the time.
Food and Dining There is something to eat for everyone. Dining halls have plenty of options. Stores on campus have plenty of grocery food options.
Dorm Life Dorm life is top notch here at UNCW. People in your dorm/hall become your family and change you into who you want to be. Most of the buildings are newly renovated, while there are some old ones too.
Academic Rigor This is not a UNC or Duke school, but we are right underneath them. Its not easy, but its not impossible. Most teachers are helpful and you can make good grades without having to kill yourself in hard work, but it is a little bit of a challenge.
Tips for prospective students Be well rounded-if you are all about academics-this is not the school for you. Do well your last two years of high school-these will set you apart from the thousands of other kids applying.
In three sentences The campus is of medium size and absolutely beautiful and easy to get around. Students is more like a family and its easy to meet people that will become your family. Beach is really close as well as beautiful downtown.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for all student types
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is always something new and exciting being added to the UNCW tradition.
What to do for fun Wilmington has the joys of both urban fun such as clubs, shopping, and fine dinning and rural fun such as berry picking, hiking, and you can even fish on campus. Plus, there are beautiful beaches all around the area.
Tips for prospective students Think hard before you declare a major. Take classes that can be applied to multiple fields. Make sure you have enough credits when you are preparing to graduate.
In three sentences The campus is very beautiful and well organized. The professors are very helpful and always find time to help you outside of class. It is difficult to find competent academic advisors.

Categories Comments Food and Dining All the times that I have been to UNCW, they've had burger, fries, and hotdogs. However, when I've visited other schools, I experienced the most delicious and unique meals. Their food is good, but not quite great.
Dorm Life The rooms are a decent size and look comfy. They are not quite as spacious as dorms at other colleges, but the buildings look clean.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is probably average here. It is a great school for most majors and anybody can find something they are looking for here.
In three sentences Great, if you love the beach. Bad, if you love cold whether. and average, if you want entertaining activities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I run at 2am sometimes, and I carry pepper spray for fun. I don't worry about being on the campus at night.
Greek Life Very laid back, very diverse, strict no hazing.
Clubs and Activities name an intrest and theres a group for it.
Great for these types of students Laid back, beach bums, sun-children, hard workers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ooze Ball- volley ball in giant mud pits
Bang for the buck 2nd ranked in-state NC school for the best bang for buck, second only to UNC Chapel Hill.
What to do for fun BEACH! clubs, laid back greek life, clubs for everything, sports of all kinds, lions, tigers, and bears, oh my.
Food and Dining UNCW has many different dining options, from buffet to fast food to grocery.
Dorm Life Out of the 50 people on my hall I knew 51 of them by name. There were always doors open down the hall, and people hanging out.
Academic Rigor The classes are hard. Work hard, and you'll do well.
Tips for prospective students Buy a bike, buy a U-Bolt lock, go to class, and meet as many people as you can. Take your first year as slow as you can, and go to the beach as often as you can. Just remember to bring your books :)
In three sentences UNCW is everything I could have possibly wanted. I love the school, the classes, and I love the teachers. I had a bit of a rough start, but with the help of Advisors and the Intervention program I've gotten my GPA doubled.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very engaged, legitimate police force. Response time to emergency call averages under one minute.
Greek Life Active and sociable Greek Life, very involved on campus and with other campus organizations
Clubs and Activities Over 100+ organiztions, many of which are academically invoved
Great for these types of students Laid back , sun loving beach bums; surfers; people who don't like cold weather.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Oozeball: Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament held in April by the Student Ambassadors
What to do for fun Beach. All day. Everyday.
Food and Dining Large and small sized dining halls, with convenience stores scatter across campus. Another dining option is the Hawk's Nest, which is a food court offering 6+ options of dining choices, including Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, and a vendor that only serves products caught or grown in Wilmington.
Dorm Life 9 times out of 10, you will miss some aspects of the dorm life at UNCW. Extremely easy to meet people, and often cases the people you meet will be your friends for the rest of college
Academic Rigor Looking for the easy A in the short term, will hurt you detrimentally in the long term as for many majors, the upper level classes require a strong foundation in academic knowledge. Faculty is very involved in the learning of their students and are easily approachable after class.
Tips for prospective students Study abroad. The end.
In three sentences A very open and spacious campus located only a 15min drive away from Wrightsville Beach. Pedestrian friendly, with all academic buildings within 12min walk from each other. Great place!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's a police station ON campus, including the Wilmington police. Safety is never a problem!
Greek Life Yes!
Clubs and Activities Many, many to choose from! There is an involvement fair at the beginning of every school year!
Great for these types of students Film students. Wilmington is known as Hollywood of the East or Wilmywood. Iron Man 3 is being filmed there currently. It is home of Screen Gems Production company!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a fountain in the middle of campus and it's kind of a dream of every student to go swimming in the fountain before they graduate!
Bang for the buck Best choice of my education career yet! I'm an out-of-state student and I don't regret having to pay more at all. I belong here at Wilmington, and it really makes you feel that way!
What to do for fun There are two beaches 10 minutes away! Need I say more? There is also downtown and even a bustling nightlife minutes away from campus. Furthermore, with Greek Life, there are many parties due to that. Lastly, Association of Campus Entertainment works hard to always having something going on, non-alcohol related. You have plenty of options!
Food and Dining Everyone loves to complain about the main dining hall, Wagoner Hall. But this year, they closed Wag, as we call it, a little early due to summer renovations, and it really took a toll. You don't really know what you have until it's gone! Wag is convenient and even if you don't want the hot meal, you have options. Other than Wag, we have plenty of great dining options!
Dorm Life Depends where you live as a Freshman! Tri-House are the best freshman dorms on campus. Tri-House includes Cornerstone, Honors, and International. The other freshman dorms are not as nice, but obviously liveable.
Academic Rigor It depends on the classes, there definitely are easy A classes but there are also classes that really challenge you. Once second semester of Freshman year hits, classes get harder. The work load gets a little heavier, but it's all manageable.
Tips for prospective students Get involved immediately. During orientation, they stress it to the max, and I didn't listen. Freshman year is hard on almost everyone but as soon as I got involved, things started to feel like home.
In three sentences UNC-Wilmington is a hidden gem in terms of accredited universities. It is an institution where students from all backgrounds can find their niche and thrive to excellence. It is a perfect environment for all love a community aspect to their lives.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is basketball, gym, tennis, indoor pool (a new one being built), soccer, black light parties, opportunities to go dancing off and on campus. Many many hobby-related clubs.
Food and Dining Food and Dining is so easy and resourceful. There are plenty of dining areas very accessible to wherever you are on campus.
Dorm Life Dorm life is safe, friendly, and family oriented. There is always fun activities, helpful RAs and always opportunities for quiet individual and group studies.
Academic Rigor It is rigorous and grades need to be maintained and kept up. There is a lot of expectations for potentials-don't give the college a reason to regret their prestigious opinion to pick you to attend such a great college.
In three sentences UNCW is an amazing school. It gives individual attention to help students do there very best every single day. Caring professors and great opportunities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on campus. We have so many security guards and cops on campus that nothing should happen to anyone. They ever have poles with a panic button that allows a police officer to escort you to anywhere on campus if you feel unsafe. Safety is one of the number one priorities here at UNCW.
Greek Life They are plenty of sororities and fraternities here at UNCW. It is fairly simple to find the one for you. They are always busy and having fun.
Clubs and Activities There are over 100 clubs offered in UNCW. There is even a Quidditch team for all you Harry Potter fans out there! And even if that club is not offered here, you have the opportunity to start your own club!
Great for these types of students The University of North Carolina Wilmington is for students who love the warm weather, the beach, and living in a beautiful downtown area.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year, we have Beach Blast which is when everyone goes to Wrightsville Beach and party. They even have part of the beach reserved for us. It's so cool and fun!
Bang for the buck This is school is worth all my money. I wish I had money to pay off my education, but I'm doing the best I can. This school has everything to offer.
What to do for fun There are three beaches in Wilmington. Wrightsville Beach is only 10 minutes away. There is also something going on on campus all the time such as movies, dorm events, outdoor activities and etc.
Food and Dining The food is great here. I love Wagoner Hall's food. It's healthy and delicious.
Dorm Life I loved dorm life. I met so many wonderful people. I seriously believe that they will be my friends for life.
Academic Rigor This school is rigorous, so you need to buckle down and do your work. You will have plenty of time to have fun afterwards.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your work. Procrastination is not the answer.
In three sentences It wasn't anything I expected. I love the school! It's really the place for me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety cops are EVERYWHERE. The wilmington police and campus police are in the same force, so they work together; so don't do anything really stupid. They have security guards at the front desks of dorms starting at midnight.
Greek Life It's grown quite a bit. I know a lot of people in sororities and fraternities. They really enjoy it, so if you're thinking about joining, go for it!
Clubs and Activities Way too many to talk about!!
What to do for fun Go to downtown Wilmington!! There is a plethora of things to do during the day and at night. Movies are shown on campus, performances such as plays and ballets happen
Food and Dining It's about that of any other college i guess... they just renovated wag, our main eatery on campus, so hopefully it's better than it was before. There are lots of vegetarian options to choose from. Everyone's favorite place to eat for dinner is hawk's nest, so get there early so you don't have to stand in line!
Dorm Life Galloway is known as the party dorm, so if that's not your thing as a freshman, avoid it. Belk is all girls and all the other dorms are co-ed. Make sure you get to at least talk to your new roommate over facebook or something. Getting stuck with someone you don't like can ruin a freshman year.
Academic Rigor I think it really depends on your major. As a freshman, I think my friends that are going to into engineering and medical fields have a lot of work and tougher classes. Depending on a professor, a class can be hard or easy.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! I found that participating in clubs, sports, and residential activities helped me to make connections and friends around the university. The beach is EXTREMELY tempting, so figure out how to manage the amount of time you spend studying and the amount of time you spend at the beach. Don't forget to bring your rain gear because it rains a lot!
In three sentences It's a great, welcoming and comfortable mid-sized campus. The professors are willing to work with students and help them succeed to the fullest. There is a group of students for everyone here, you just have to find your niche.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt safe on campus, even when walking back to my dorm at 2 in the morning. There are â??Blue Boxesâ?? everywhere that are there for your protection. If you feel anxious or unsafe, you can press the emergency button or the call button and police will be there in literally one minute. Also, I do not think there is a lot of crime on campus that I hear of, especially compared to other campuses my friends go to school on.
Greek Life I am not involved in Greek Life so I do not know anything about it. I do know that it is active on campus and they rush in the fall and spring so you should have ample opportunity to join if you want to.
Clubs and Activities I believe there are almost 200 clubs at UNCW and there is a club for almost anything, including a newly made Quidditch club for those Harry Potter fans out there! It would take too much time to talk about the different opportunities on here but you can go to the UNCW website and search clubs. There is a complete list of the clubs online for you to browse!
Great for these types of students UNCW is great for Marine Biology because the program it has there is wonderful and since it is located so close to the ocean, there are many hands-on classes and activities. Scuba diving is a popular activity for this because there are several wrecks off shore that are good for exploring and there are classes that go to tropical beaches for warm scuba diving (like on a coral reef). Also, it is great for in-state students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In one building (DeLoach Hall), there is a little courtyard in the middle that is cute and looks to be a perfect place to sit and read a book. There is an outdoor amphitheater outside of the Student Union where you can sit on a sunny day and feed the turtles in the pond. Behind the upperclassmen dorms, there is a wooded area of pine trees that also has a ropes course that UNCW opens several times a year and a trail that leads to the beach.
Bang for the buck Since I want to get a degree in Marine Biology, UNCW is the perfect school and has a great Marine Biology program. As an out-of-state student, however, UNCW is really expensive. If you are an in-state student, it is a great school for the money you will spend! If you are an out-of-state student, I would take a lot at the scholarships you have and whether you could get the same degree in-state for a lower tuition cost.
What to do for fun There are a lot of clubs to join on campus so there should be something for everyone! There is an intramural sports tournament for almost every sport (including ultimate frisbee and cornhole) and club sports. The beach is an obvious (and free!) choice for having fun and there is plenty to do there, especially if you like beach activities. You can surf, skim board, boat, jetski, wind surf, tan or just play in the waves. In Wilmington, there's an ice rink, bowling, and movie theaters like any other town. There is plenty of fun around! :)
Food and Dining Wagoner Hall (Wag) is the dining hall on campus, in a pretty convenient location for all the dorms. The food there is adequate though it gets repetitive after the first month or so. They have a salad bar (that is not always kept stocked), ice cream machine, pizza bar, sandwich bar, and two bars that change meal choices every day for each meal. The other big food place on campus is Hawksnest, which does have better food, but it's located farther away from most upperclassman dorms. It has a Mexican section, Chick-fil-a, Subway, a sushi place, a burger grill, and several other choices. The lines are usually longer there, especially during prime meal time.
Dorm Life I lived in the Honors Dorm my freshman year and absolutely loved it. The dorm is nice and kept clean by the staff. When living together, people are always going to have problems with each other but it does teach you to be more tolerant. My dorm was newer/nicer than others on campus so each dorm would be a different situation.
Academic Rigor Academics are going to vary across all departments and through all different teachers. Generally, I say the academics at UNCW are great and the teachers are helpful (if you need help, ask and they will give it to you). Some teachers are always going to have more difficult classes than others or be meaner than others. I would suggest asking upperclassmen about certain teachers before signing up for classes.
Tips for prospective students You may be tempted to skip class on every sunny day to go to the beach for surfing or tanning. Honestly, this is fine every once in a while if you need that break but avoid getting into the habit of not going to class because eventually you will think it's unnecessary and never show up. Then when the test comes, you wonder where all those questions came from!
In three sentences UNCW is a beautiful school located ten minutes from the ocean and set in urban Wilmington, NC. There are so many things to do including clubs, events, and off campus fun that you will never be bored or regret choosing UNCW. The academics I have experienced so far have been good, though studying is always a must.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I don't think you could be any safer at UNCW. There are emergency buttons all over campus in case you're in a bad situation and need help immediately. Police cars are always patrolling the campus.
Greek Life Greek life isn't that big.. yet. It's definitely growing but the school is not dominated by Greek life like other big schools are. They all kind of hang-out with each other so it's hard to get to know them outside of school.
Bang for the buck If you're an in-state student, UNCW is such a good deal. Why wouldn't you want to attend a school near the beach, in a college town and with great academics?
What to do for fun There's so many things to do for fun, I mean the beach is five minutes away! There's tons of beach bars downtown, movie theater, aquarium, lots of places to eat, etc.
Food and Dining So good! There are so many different options: Chick-fil-a, Quiznos, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc. You'll never go hungry!
Dorm Life Honestly dorm life isn't very fun. I'd definitely suggest to live in an apartment. The campus police crack down hard on everything going on in dorms. That is if you're looking to party, if not then the dorms would be the right pick for you.
Academic Rigor Classes are definitely challenging, but so worth it. Take your time and study, get a Tudor; whatever you have to do!
Tips for prospective students Join as many extra-curricular activities as you can, whether it's sports or clubs- just get involved! Student life is huge here, you want to be involved as much as you can on campus. Also make sure you're ready to study! Classes are hard but you'll definitely be prepared for the real world once you graduate.
In three sentences Absolutely beautiful campus, five minutes from the beach, excellent academics. The Sea Hawks are a division 1 school, thousands of clubs and has a very relaxed atmosphere. Once you visit for the first time you'll never want to leave.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never once felt any danger on campus. There is an ID check at the front desk, and a guard on the desk at night. All guests have to sign in. While this may seem like a hassle, it is actually a great safety measure that protects you. You never know who may want to get in your dorm one night! There are blue-lights all over campus. If you stand in one spot, you can see at least four. At all times! No need to worry Mom when you walk home from the library late one night.
Clubs and Activities I can't find one activity or sport that doesn't have a club here on campus! If you do it, they have it. Joining is simple and easy, and all activities, clubs, and organizations are set up for questions and joining one day in the beginning of the year, in a fair-type day. It's a lot of fun!
Great for these types of students Student interested in a smaller school with a fairly difficult academic rigor will fit right in. There aren't many social stereotypes, because every one and their brother will find a perfect fit here. They say once you move there, you never want to leave!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Wildlife Preserve is a beautiful area, smack in the middle of campus. If you're lucky, you catch a beautiful sunset in the park if it's open! In the Ampitheater, there is always something going on. Whether it be a speaker or a singer, there is always some class-change entertainment! Trask Trek. At the beginning of the year, the freshmen trek to Trask Coliseum. Big fun!
Bang for the buck You name it, they offer it. The school is always looking for ways to improve, and they come to you all the time to see if you have any suggestions!
What to do for fun Beach. Need I say more? However, the beach is only an option for a couple months out of the year (unless you're a die-hard surfer with a wet suit that wants to go out in November! Sadly, they exist) so you better go downtown. Historic downtown Wilmington is beautiful! You may have already seen it if you watch TV, because it's considered the Hollywood of the East and they do a ton of filming there all the time! They also film on campus on occassion too! There are neat little shops around town, skate parks, the mall, Hugh McRae Park, trails, woods, ponds, rivers...something for everyone! Not to mention programs the school puts on. You're pretty much guaranteed to never be bored!
Food and Dining All you can eat buffet? A college kids dream! Wagner Hall (always referred to as Wag) is usually pretty great, unless you go at closing. At that point everyone has eaten everything! NEVER miss chicken patty day, and make sure you get there early! There are Markets and PODS, which are perfect for studying late at night and want a little pick me up (or a study break!). They're located all over campus, and have everything from milk to pizza, laundry detergent to granola.
Dorm Life I will never forget my freshman year, the people I met and lived with, the dorm I lived in, and the experiences I had. It was no Ritz-Carlton, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was a loud, crazy, fun-filled building of wonder! Housing was very cooperative with any issues, the RAs were very helpful and informative, and there was always a program going on to keep you involved.
Academic Rigor There's no way to clearly judge this, in my opinion! If you don't go to class or don't pay attention in class it's all 5 stars. However, if you are actively involved in class, study well, do all of your homework, and put in a good effort, everything is all very manageable. I wouldn't say easy, because you do face different challenges than you did in high school, but it's not hard.
Tips for prospective students There are a few things I'm glad I had when I got to school my freshman year: A rain coat A previous knowledge of the campus layout! A wind-proof winter coat An emergency kit There are also a few things I wish I knew before I got there!: Go to every. Single. Class! It really DOES make a difference Plan out how you use your meal plan so you don't starve at the end of the semester Surround yourself with good, ambitious people and friends Know what to do in a hurricane! You may miss home a lot at first but, when you go away you realize how much you love it and don't miss home as much as you thought!
In three sentences Wilmington is a quiet and peaceful town, that is very much in love with the college, and the college loves the town! The campus is a wide-open beautiful space, with trees and beautiful buildings, hard-working students and smiles all around and that's not a cliche. There is a perfect niche for every single person, no matter what your background or intrests are, so you feel right at home from the start and never want to leave! Your mother was right-time management is CRUCIAL

Categories Comments What to do for fun UNCW always has some kind of event going on. Whether it's going to sporting events, the beach, or random events on campus. You will not have to look very hard for something to do.
Food and Dining There are a lot of food options on campus, they just remodeled the current dining hall to make it bigger. Not only that but there is Dunkin Donuts, Hawks Nest (which includes Chick-fil-a, pizza, burgers, Quiznoes, hotdogs, and tacos! Also, there is The Landing which provides custom-made sandwiches all day.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great, there are seven dorms on campus as well as apartments that you can stay in.
Academic Rigor The classes here at UNCW are not that hard in terms of difficulty, but I'm sure that's just because I'm taking mostly general studies at the moment.
Tips for prospective students If your thinking about attending college, I would definitely consider UNCW. The campus life is great and the city of Wilmington has a great nightlife, plus the beach is 10 min away! In your first year, try to take a good amount of the required general classes so the wont be an annoyance later on in your studies.
In three sentences UNCW is a great school, the campus is currently growing at a fast rate and there are always things to do. The school spirit is amazing, everyone seems really exited to be here! With the campus being just 10 min from the beach, I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to come here!

Categories Comments Campus Safety UNCW is a very safe campus. All dorms can only be accessed by those who live in that building because you cannot get in without scanning your UNCW ID, known as your OneCard. Also, there are Desk Receptionists at the front of every dorm during the day and Security Guards there every night to make sure those entering the dorm are supposed to be there. There is a Campus Police Department on campus in case of any emergencies, and there are Emergency Call Boxes located throughout campus.
Greek Life There are numerous sororities and fraternities for those interested in Greek Life, but if you aren't then don't worry! UNCW is not a school where Greek Life takes over. They are so many other activities for people not interested in Greek Life to get involved with, If you are interested in Greek Life, there are plenty of options! UNCW recently colonized a new fraternity, and a new sorority is starting this year, There is even a Christian-based sorority for girls.

Sharky's offers pool, fooseball, and fun video games for students to play. There are many campus clubs that offer meetings and events throughout the week. The Student Recreation Center also offers Group Exercise classes throughout the week that students love to take advantage of. From Yoga to Cardio Dance to Boot Camp there is a class for everyone. Don't forget to hit up Fuzzy Peach- the famous froyo bar located on Racine Drive right off campus! It's delicious!
Food and Dining UNCW has many dining locations and offers a variety of dining plans offering different numbers of meal swipes and food dollars. Wagoner Hall, also known as Wag, is the most popular dining spot on campus. It is all-you-can-eat buffet style with many different stations including a Salad Bar, Grill, Comfort Station, Sandwich Bar, Bakery, and the Chef's Table. Wag was recently renovated to offer more seating and more options. Students never want to miss Wag's famous weekend brunch or Wagsgiving, a traditional Thanksgiving dinner served once a year. Students line up hours ahead of time to get into Wagsgiving early! Wagoner also has a Wag-Out facility where you can get pasta, pizza, salad, or a sandwich on the go. Dub's Cafe is the other all-you-can-eat buffet style dining facility on campus. It is similar to Wag, just smaller and has less options. Hawk's Nest is the food court style dining facility, and it has an option for everyone. There is a Mexican place, a Mediterranean Grill, a Subway, a Quiznos, a Burger Joint, a Hot Dog place, a Salad Bar, a Freshens Smoothies, Green Spot (healthy, locally-grown fare), and everyone's favorite Chick-fil-a! Hawk's Nest is takes meal swipes at dinner time which is an added bonus. There are numerous markets throughout campus that sell many items including freezer food. UNCW also offers a Dunkin Donuts for those who love coffee, and an Einstein's Bagels for all those bagel lovers. One hidden dining gem at UNCW is The Landing. The Landing is a sandwich shop hidden within the Seahawk Landing apartments, and let me tell you it's the best place on campus! Yum!
Dorm Life UNCW offers many different styles of dorms, so there will definitely be one for you! If you prefer suite style living, then you could stay in the University Suites, Belk, or Graham-Hewlett. Belk is also an all-female dorm. Galloway is a hall-style dorm, while Schwartz, Cornerstone, Honors, and International are pod-style. There are also plenty of apartment options including the University Apartments for freshman, and Seahawk Crossing, Seahawk Landing, and Seahawk Village for upperclassmen. The dorms are all relatively nice and are a decent size for a dorm room. The RA's are awesome and always provide fun programming for your hall, and the RHA is quite involved too. Laundry is available for free in all dorms which is a bonus! Also, all dorms are staffed by Desk Receptionists during the day and Security Guards at night for precaution. You will always feel safe in a UNCW dorm!
Academic Rigor Some classes are more difficult than others, but if you keep up with your work and study hard, they are all manageable. Professors are quite friendly and are available if you need assistance or guidance with something. Supplemental Instruction is offered for certain courses of higher rigor if you need extra help, and there is a Writing Center and a Math Lab available.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! There are over 200 student organizations which means there is something for everyone! Utilize the services provided by the university. UNCW offers a Writing Center, a Math Lab, and Supplemental Instruction sessions for help in particular courses. We also have a Career Center to help you find a job while you're in school or once you graduate, and there is an awesome Student Recreation Center available for free! Look into all the majors and programs offered. UNCW has so many options it may seem overwhelming, but don't let it be. Explore all your options before you settle on a specific major, you may end up finding something you had never considered before. Don't be afraid to get help from your advisor! Take advantage of the Study Abroad opportunities! UNCW offers programs all over the world- look into it for an experience that will change your life!
In three sentences UNCW is sometimes called UNCWonderful, and it truly is! Categories Comments Campus Safety Awesome Campus Safety! Never had any problems. Except for, watch out for the guy in the Scream mask, he comes out often.
Greek Life Not very prevalent on campus
Food and Dining Food is delicious and very healthy! They try to please different types of people and there are many dining locations on campus.
Dorm Life I stayed in the International House, so it was really clean and kept up, however the older dorms, like Galloway or Graham-Hewlett are not as nice. Those dorms have more of a social aspect though. So you have to make a choice between a clean dorm, or a better social atmosphere.
Academic Rigor The basic classes are easy, but when it comes to the sciences, prepare for a challenge. Ratemyprofessor.com will be your best friend for the next 4 years. I recommend not taking chances on professors that score poorly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Call boxes are all over campus. They are in sight from anywhere on campus.
What to do for fun Going to the beach is very popular. There is a sailing club, Stand-up paddle boarding club, frisbee, environmental protection, golf, surfing, and more!
Food and Dining The food here is delicious, and there are so many options. I have no problems with the food because there is something new to choose from every day!
Dorm Life I live in the University Apartments, which is much quieter than the other residence halls, but it is very easy to meet people no matter where you go!
Academic Rigor Wilmington is well-known for its Science department, and being a biology major, I can see why. I am learning so much that I never thought I would be able to comprehend in my lifetime, and I feel so proud for what I have accomplished so far!
Tips for prospective students Before crossing Wilmington off your list, take a trip there and visit, because you will immediately change your mind. I could find nothing wrong with this campus, and I feel so at home here.
In three sentences UNCW is a well-rounded, diverse campus with a faculty that is passionate for bettering students' education. The environment is warm and caring, and there are many activities to try, making it easy to settle in with a core group of friends. There is so much to do, considering it is right by the beach!

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is well lite at night, the campus police are not hard to find either, and there are emergency call boxes all around campus. All you do is press a red button and the police automatically know where you are. You can also ask for someone to accompany you if you feel uneasy about walking by yourself.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs you can join, so getting involved and meeting new people is no real hassle. They have clubs from an Anime Club and Scottish Society up to a Surf Club and Crossway Campus Ministry. At first try to do something new and try whatever club out, but narrow it down so you do not get too overwhelmed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every Tuesday is Teal Tuesday, since UNCW's color is teal, and all you do is wear teal on a Tuesday.
What to do for fun During the first two weeks a bunch of the organizations hold different events such as International Night, Meet and Greek, interest meetings, and they host free movies for students, which continue throughout the year. A lot of clubs and organizations will be recruiting at that time, so its a great way to branch out and try new things. The Recreational Center also has classes such as Cardio Dance, Power Yoga, and Seahawk Sculpt on certain days of the week that you can drop in on.
Food and Dining There are two places on campus that do not cost money to eat, if you have a meal plan, and all you do is swipe your university ID card. Both are good places to eat, especially during the holidays and weekends, because during those times they cook amazing food. You can also go to other restaurants on campus such as Dunkin' Donuts, Chik Fil A, Einstein Brothers Bagels, and Market Place. There are exceptions at some restaurants after a certain time where you can use your meal swipes as well.
Dorm Life The living arrangements are descent, they are not horrifically horrendous and it really depends on who you live with. At the beginning you might have a few things broken or falling apart, but maintenance should be able to take care of it. However, at first they are slow to respond, because everybody is sending in requests. Other than that the dorms are nice.
Academic Rigor Classes can be entertaining and challenging, but every now and then, depending on your professor, it can be a little draining. It can be quite worrisome as well if you are not a math person, but you are in calculus, but do not panic! UNCW has tutoring sessions, for free, and they are students who have gone through the experince, so they understand.
Tips for prospective students Go to as many events as possible. The more you go to, the more you learn and meet others, that way it is easier to make friends. You can also find out about an organization you might be interested in and what they do and how to apply. Be conscience of your schedule and the times when signing up for classes, it may seem reasonable on paper, but once you start getting into it, it may be a hassle.
In three sentences UNCW has an amazing staff, they are always friendly, willing to help, and make you feel like you belong. All in all, though, the people of UNCW are amazing and friendly. Plus the campus is beautiful, they have a small preserve in the heart of campus with a nature trail and it is a great place to study other than the library.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I am female and feel quite safe walking alone around campus at night.
Greek Life Evidently, very active is the Greek Life on campus. Further, they are all No Hazing Zones.
Clubs and Activities You name it. We've got it. Well, we do not have a football team. That's about all, though.
Great for these types of students I think it's a perfect place for focused students who already know or have a strong inclination toward their major. It's also great for graduate students. I would caution undecided students and those who may need a little more maturity under their belts before attending The Dub. There is a lot to do and an unfocused student could get easily distracted.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Teal Tuesdays. Everyone wears teal, the main school color, and even the local grocery store bakes muffins dyed with teal food coloring!
What to do for fun It's an embarrassment of riches here at The Dub. You can get your culture on with fine arts installations and classical music performances. They have SUPER cheap or free movies every weekend at Lumina. There are club and school sports events. Don't even get me started on the various fraternity/sorority/club/association events.
Food and Dining They have a good selection between Wagoner, the main dining hall, and the Hawk's Nest. They also have convenience stores all around campus. The only caution: all of these options are a little spendy.
Dorm Life I have to give one star and that is only because I am a student living off-campus.
Academic Rigor They demand a lot of students from the start. However, this will better prepare you for higher-level classes and graduate school, should you choose to go.
Tips for prospective students The biggest tip I would give prospective students is to ask tons of questions. Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, etc. are all fantastic, but they cannot possibly remember everything you may need to know. Ask a lot of questions. They won't be annoyed. They'll be grateful.
In three sentences So far, the quality of education for the price paid is outstanding. They strive to incorporate the latest in learning techniques and provide a strong curriculum. My only critique so far is that the staff who work in most of the offices could be a little more customer-service oriented.

Great for these types of students People who enjoy being in the sun!

What to do for fun Tanning, surfing, shopping, and visiting new restaurants.
Tips for prospective students If you ever need anything Depaolo Hall is the place to go. The health services, tutoring opportunities, and much more. The Wagoner Hall is the best cafeteria in the world!
In three sentences This is a great school. Everyone is very nice and helpful. Not to mention it's near the beach!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are many emergency boxes, and the police are always driving around campus. Don't walk around downtown Wilmington alone, but on campus it's fine. If you feel unsafe you can always press an emergency box button and a cop will walk you back to where ever you're going. Also, kids with cars get nailed with tickets, so make sure you follow all of the driving/parking rules!!
Greek Life I have lots of friends involved in greek life, and all of them love it! It's a great way to meet people, make friends, get involved, and better your experience at UNCW! The greeks are constantly doing fun things, so I recommend it to anyone!
Clubs and Activities There is a club out there for everyone. UNCW has over 200+ clubs, so there is always something for everyone. My advice is to get involved in as many as you can. Not only do they look great on a resume, but it will make your time here much more enjoyable.
Great for these types of students 1. Love the beach 2. From North Carolina 3. Like to party 4. Care about doing well in school 5. Very laid back 6. Go with the flow 7. Like warm weather
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On move in day, the upperclassmen will take the freshmens' belongings and put them into the dorms from their cars. The freshmen don't have to do anything! Also, the first week of school is beach blast! The whole school goes to the beach and parties for the day!
Bang for the buck For what's provided, I think it's alright. The tuition is ridiculous for out-of-state students. The parking permits cost $350. I think some of it is a rip off, but the services (disability, learning center, free tutoring, etc.) is worth it. I think they could improve on some things and dorm quality, but if you have the money then by all means don't let anything hold you back!
What to do for fun JOIN ANY CLUBS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN! This is your time to figure out who you are and what you want to do. There are over 200 clubs, so there will be something you like. The more involved you get, the more fun you'll have. Also, go to the beach! I don't know one person who has gone to the beach and not have fun. Explore downtown Wilmington, it's really fun and cute!
Food and Dining Wagoner is best for breakfast! Dubs is ok, but I wouldn't recommend it. Save your food dollars, though! You can go to certain places at the Hawk's Nest after 6 pm Sunday-Thursday and use meal swipes instead of food dollars. But I would recommend getting a fridge for your dorm and having lots of food there. It will be nice to get a break from dining hall food, since it's repetitive. The food isn't bad, but it's just the same.
Dorm Life If you live in Galloway, Graham-Hewlett, or Belk bring a throw rug! You can buy them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The floors are tile and gross. Also, bring a vaccum. I suggest Cornerstone or International! They're the nicest dorms. Schwartz is ok, Belk is all girls and it's the luck of the draw. Galloway and Graham-Hewlett are the loudest and biggest party dorms.
Academic Rigor The academics are ok. The general ed classes aren't good, but once you get into your major it gets better. Just keep all of your grades up and more options will be available to you.
Tips for prospective students 1. Get involved. I can't stress that enough. I was miserable first semester because I didn't do anything. Now I am having a blast! 2. Step out of your comfort zone. In order to make friends, you have to step out of your comfort zone and approach people! They're all friendly and nice! 3. GO TO EVENTS! Especially during the first few weeks of school, doing this will help you meet people. 4. Bring your car or make friends that have cars. You need a car to get around Wilmington... bikes and skateboards are only good for on campus! 5. Don't let the beach be the only reason you come here. It gets too cold to go in the water November-March, so you'll need things to do in the meantime! 6. MAKE SURE SCHOOL COMES FIRST! enough said. 7. If you live in the dorms, bring blankets. The AC is always blasting and it's freezing. 8. If you're in a big class, make sure you email and introduce yourself to the professor. This way it shows them that you care and they will eventually know your name! 9. Be open minded about classes. Take things that sound interesting to you. You may go in thinking you know your major, but you could be wrong, so have fun! 10. USE THE SERVICES ON CAMPUS! THEY'RE FREE!
In three sentences The school is best known for the beach. You will succeed if you can balance fun and school work. The more you're involved, the more fun you'll have!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The cops are chill and are definitely concerned for your personal safety. I haven't had any complaints.
Clubs and Activities There is so much to do on campus. They have UNCweekends which provides plenty of activities for students to do except partying. Also, there is a big fair in the beginning of the year that let's students meet and be aware of the many clubs on campus.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is laid back and wants to have a great time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Wagsgiving is the big thanksgiving event, and the food then is wonderful. Beach Blast is the last day before classes start, and it is seriously a blast. The students at UNCW are really close together and not extremely cliquish.
Bang for the buck I do not regret a second choosing UNCW to be my school for the next four years.
What to do for fun In Wilmington, there is a lot to do. The beach is easily accessible, downtown Wilmington is beautiful, and there's plenty of late night activities for a student to be a part of. Wilmington does its absolute best to accommodate college students. The first few weeks when classes start are the absolute best.
Tips for prospective students Future students should study hard, have fun once in a while, and be themselves when they come to UNCW. They are bound to fit in with someone so they shouldn't stress about being left out. There is a place for everyone at the Dub.
In three sentences I would rate UNCW to be a 9/10. The academics may not be top notch, but they are definitely rising. Everything about the campus is amazing, and in the next decade its popularity will rise.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus. In the evening if you are at the library and to not feel comfortable walking to your dorm, you can call campus cops and they will escort you. Great, understanding officers that will help you out if you are polite.
Greek Life I am not involved but there are many frats ranging from serious academic groups to ridiculous burnout clubs. Rush some if you are interested, you'll likely find a group that suits your interests.
Clubs and Activities So many ways to get involved. Go to the UNCW site and look at the CAIC page to see what they offer.
Great for these types of students Active students who are interested in sports clubs or rec teams. Artistic students who want a quality theatre/music/visual arts department and interesting arts community. People who love playing on the beach.
Bang for the buck I think that UNCW will provide great equity for what you pay. The school is growing and adding state of the art facilities, but the price remains a bargain.
What to do for fun There are plenty of live concerts on and off campus, the beach, rec center, bars downtown if you are of age, religious groups that do really cool things (for fun and for comm. service). There is a movie theatre on campus that is usually free for students or like 2 dollars. etc
Food and Dining The dining has improved exponentially. There is a dunkin donuts, chick fil a, subway, quiznos, salad bars at every dining hall, multiple coffee shops, snack bars, and convenience stores that accept food dollars. Anything you want to eat should be available, including local, organic, vegetarian, and vegan options. (and they are actually quality options rather than an afterthought.)
Dorm Life People are mostly friendly and considerate in the dorms at UNCW. Galloway is the party dorm so if you want to sleep at all during your years here, Schwartz or Graham Hewlett are better.
Academic Rigor Professors at UNCW are often very personable and interested in how you are doing in the class. With the availability of help from professors and fellow students, classes are not as difficult as one would expect.
Tips for prospective students Look into programs that interest you and even fields of study that you have not yet considered. Meeting professors and administrators in programs that interest you will give you an edge and help you to make important decisions about the path which you are taking.
In three sentences UNCW is a fantastic place to study. You will meet friends that last a lifetime, and learn lessons that will stick with you. What could be better than studying 10 minutes away from the beach?

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus really emphasizes safety as well. There are police call boxes everywhere that will automatically notify the police of your location. They encourage you to call campus PD if you're uncomfortable walking home alone at night and they will send someone to pick you up. In each dorm, there is a desk where you have to check in guests and the dorm buildings are locked to anyone without a student ID card. They're strict on all of these matters.
Clubs and Activities Get involved in these! There are plenty of clubs on campus and if you can't find one that you like, you're encouraged to start one. The process for starting a club isn't outrageously difficult either.
Great for these types of students A lot of beachy students come here, but that doesn't make it unfriendly towards students who don't like the beach (as I am one of them). They really emphasize athletics, sororities and fraternities, and diversity.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Teal Tuesdays are a thing here on campus: if you wear teal (the school's color) around campus, you might get some free candy like I did, or other small prizes for having school spirit.
Bang for the buck I only rate this a four if you are an in-state student. College can be expensive, but the Honors College is worth the tuition price if you're considering it.
What to do for fun There's always something going on. RA's have to put on programs for the students, which are like... fun events to do with your dormmates. There's a lot of good athletic activities. Join a club, because those are fun.
Food and Dining There's a bit of variety and they try their best to cater to vegetarian and vegan students, but there's a lot of unhealthy food on campus.
Dorm Life Honors House is great. I've heard some of the older dorms aren't as nice, but Tri-house (Honors House, International House, and Cornerstone) are really good.
Academic Rigor If you're in the honors program, you'll be challenged by the course material, but from what I gather, most of the standard university classes aren't too hard, depending on the professor.
Tips for prospective students Be aware that the campus floods a lot during monsoon season. The weather can get to you if you're not prepared or come from a different state (i.e. bring a raincoat and rain boots, a good umbrella, and clothes for hot weather and cold). Check ratemyprofessors.com because some of the professors aren't the best. Don't eat Wag or Dubs all the time, try the other dining locations. Try new things.
In three sentences If you get into a good academic group, classes are challenging (try the Honors College: it's a good community of people usually). While the campus population is not exactly diverse (overwhelmingly white), the campus does its best to emphasize that equality is what we want to strive for. They do well in certain subject areas such as marine biology, film studies, and creative writing, so if you're interested in those topics, be sure to consider UNCW.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus police on campus at all times. There are emergency boxes all over campus (you can usually see 4 or more in a 360 view). IDs are needed to get into dorms, but only assigned IDs unless you are checked in by someone in that dorm.
Greek Life We do offer fraternity and sorority pledging.
Clubs and Activities We have over 250 organizations. We have greek life, anime club, Sga, surf clubs, sports clubs, paranormal watch clubs... anything! If we don't have it, you and two other people can start a new one.
Great for these types of students Students who want to learn and study. Students who want to take chances and amazing opportunities. Students who want a calm, homey campus life. Students who are outgoing. Students who are looking for a phenomenal educational opportunity and a good time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have Teal Tuesdays for school spirit. If you wear teal, you are eligible to win prizes of all sorts. Before Spring exams, we have oozeball. The fire dept floods the rec fields, and we play volleyball in knee deep mud! There are so much more.
Bang for the buck This school is very affordable. It has been worth everything I have put in, and will continue to put in.
What to do for fun The best place is the beach! Anytime access, and if you don't have a car, don't worry. Someone is always going. Hang out on campus: sports, clubs. Off campus: shopping, eating, clubbing. There are many attractions dealing with the water/ocean too.
Food and Dining There are two main cafe style dining halls which serve excellent foods of all types of variety. We also have Dunkin Donuts, Einstein's, Subway, Chik fil a, Hole mole, and so much more.
Dorm Life I am staying in a Graham Hewlett and I love it! I have made so many new friends and have bonded with my dorm mates. There are so many places to live on campus. Even as a freshman, you can live in the apartments.
Academic Rigor College is tough all in all. To earn the grade you want, you will have to work for it. UNCW makes it competitive to stand out academically, but it is most certainly achievable.
Tips for prospective students Just be yourself in your application. Come check out the campus. It is beautiful. Bring an umbrella though! It tends to rain.
In three sentences UNCW has been the most amazing experience I have ever been able to take advantage of. The educational opportunities here are one of a kind. Also, we are a college at the beach!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Everywhere you look, there are campus police. These police are actually REAL police too, they're not just rent-a-cops. They have joined up with the Wilmington Police to ensure safety on and off campus.
Greek Life Even though it isn't a huge school, Greek Life plays a very big role on campus. That being said, there are also a large number of people who are not involved in Greek Life. It is something that if people are interested in it, they are sure to love it, but if not, there are plenty of other things to join!
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities on campus! It is also incredibly easy to start your own club. All you have to do is get 2 other friends to join, and your club is started! You can also ask for money from the school to help support your club!
Great for these types of students UNCW is a great school for ANY type of student. It has enough variety in activities that everybody is sure to find their own.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are two spirit rocks on UNCW's campus. One is located by Wagoner Hall (Wag), and the other is located at the front of campus by the Student Union. Different clubs and organizations are allowed to paint these to advertise as they please; however, their art must be left up for 24 hours before another club/organization can paint over it.
Bang for the buck All college is expensive; however, UNCW is in the same price range as most other schools in North Carolina. If you go there with a focus, work will pay off in the end.
What to do for fun Wilmington is a beach town; however, it also has a city side, both historic and new. Since there can be some winter days that reach the 70's, people go to the beach all year round, not necessarily swimming, but enjoying the sun and the sand.
Food and Dining UNCW provides many different locations for dining, as well as many different meal plans. Students living on campus are required to have a meal plan, and it is optional for off campus students. Wagoner Hall is the main buffet. Hawk's Nest houses Chick-fil-a, Jole Mole, Salad Creations, Varsity Grill, Green Spot, Quiznos, Opa, and a smoothie area. Dubs Cafe is another buffet; however, it is smaller than Wagoner and tends to have healthier options since the huge pizza bar is not there. There are also many other random locations around campus including a Dunkin' Donuts, bagel shops, the Landwich shop, and many little markets/shopettes.
Dorm Life I have never heard of such thing as an amazing dorm. UNCW has both dorm and on-campus apartment (University Apartments) options for freshman. People who like their space tend to stay in the apartments since there are four separate bedrooms shared with a bathroom and kitchen. However, by staying in the dorms, people tend to have a greater social life.
Academic Rigor UNCW is a very prestigious school, especially if you are interested in the School of Nursing. Students are told all the time that college is much different than high school. Many straight A high school students will tend to blow this off, thinking that they'll be fine. My advice is to put your best forward in everything that you do so you're not working to play catch up towards the end of the semester when your grades aren't where you thought they'd be.
Tips for prospective students This goes for any university, but if you are interested in getting involved, whether it is with Greek Life or any certain club, do not let peoples' opinions alter your decisions. Do what you feel will make you complete so you don't regret it later.
In three sentences Being able to call yourself a Seahawk is an incredible feeling. There are so many ways to get involved on campus whether it is with Greek Life, joining a club, or creating a club of your own. Everybody really carries a Southern Charm with them wherever they go, whether it is on Chancellor's Walk, in the dining hall, our out at night when you're socializing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never felt unsafe, even during hurricanes.
Greek Life Wasn't involved, but several friends were and they enjoyed themselves.
Clubs and Activities Lots and lots! Go to the activities and clubs fairs to find them all.
Great for these types of students Marine Bio, Biology, Nursing students Those from down South or Northerners who have always wanted to live down South but still have other Northerners around. You need to be laid back though, because things do move slower down here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Oozeball! You'll find out once you are there. Also Beach Blast!
Bang for the buck Good, you just have to push for the things you want.
What to do for fun Beach. It's right there and there are so many clubs and activities to get involved with that revolve around the beach. There are also lots of clubs on campus, so no one should ever complain they are bored.
Food and Dining Wag is.....well dorm food. They have their good days and bad days. Go early for waffles and the weekends, and never get two chicken fried steaks. The other places on campus are fine, fairly normal dinning hall style food.
Dorm Life Can only speak from my experience living in the honors dorm and in the Landing, but it was great. Those dorms are really nice and new. The people were super friendly and we stayed together out whole time there and even after.
Academic Rigor The honors program will
Tips for prospective students 1. Apply to the honors program. You will have amazing opportunities if you do. 2. Get to know your professors, they love students and are great resources for finding and offering jobs. 3. Enjoy your time here and a laid back atmosphere. If you want the hustle and bustle of a city, transfer now.
In three sentences If they have your major and you enjoy the beach you will do fine here. Make sure you have a car or you enjoy riding your bike to get around the city. Laid back school, but you will come away with a good education if you apply yourself.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck UNCW is considered the cheapest university in the public North Carolina system. Kiplinger has voted UNCW #14 of best universities for your $.
What to do for fun UNCW is 3 miles from the beach...what is there not to do!
Food and Dining The food is okay but it is getting better with the student/faculty dining committee.
Dorm Life 60% of students live off campus because housing is limited.
Academic Rigor One of my teachers slid a paper across the table to a student and said, How dare you give me anything but your best!
Tips for prospective students I suggest all prospective students to get involved in on-campus activities. UNCW has over 250 student run organizations; there is an organization for everyone. Getting involved will make your college time more fulfilling.
In three sentences UNCW, really stands for UNC-Wonderful. I have been to 6 different colleges and UNCW is the most challenging and fun of all. I strongly recommend this university.

Clubs and Activities There is a huge variety of clubs and organizations on campus.
Great for these types of students Great surfing and other outdoor activities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Wagner Hall, the dining hall, is prone to give you the waggles.
Bang for the buck This school is definitely worth the money.
What to do for fun Go to the beach, explore downtown, go to clubs/beach bars, shopping, eating.
Food and Dining Everything here is very good! Very tasty.
Dorm Life I didn't live in the dorms here.
Academic Rigor Classes here are tougher than my old university, but it's also a harder school to get into. Just make sure to turn in everything on time.
Tips for prospective students Definitely come to UNCW. It is a fantastic school and you won't be sorry you chose to come here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If there was one campus I could vote for on its safety it would be here. There are over 100 emergency call boxes on campus and the police here are friendly and always ready to do their job.
Greek Life Greek life is a big part of UNCW. A lot of students join sororities or fraternities to meet great people and become involved.
Clubs and Activities One thing I love is that there is always something for everyone here. Campus involvement is huge here and much encouraged to all students.
Great for these types of students If you are social and laid back but ready to learn, this is a great school for you!
What to do for fun There's always the beach which is nice! Other than that there are always activities and events on campus that are always a fun way to meet new people.
Food and Dining The food here is better than other places I've tasted but still not fine dining. It is good and cheap but I advise buying food not on campus every once in awhile or having food in the dorm.
Dorm Life Sometimes it is close and personal but it is part of the college experience. It also can be super fun and you meet a lot of friends.
Academic Rigor The professors here are great. They are here to help students achieve their goals and become the best they can.
Tips for prospective students Always go to class, stay focused, and ask questions. College is fun but it is no joke.
In three sentences UNCW is a fun, friendly place where learning is personal. It has great programs but also great people. It is where life long friends are created.

Food and Dining There are three different dining halls, all of which have great options.
Dorm Life It can be hard to study with all of the noise, but there is always the library located nearby.
Academic Rigor Challenging but not overbearing.
Tips for prospective students Don't order all of your textbooks until you go to class and talk to the professor. Bring a rain jacket, it rains a lot.
In three sentences UNCW is a great school for education and social experiences. The weather here is beautiful with sunshine almost everyday. This is a great school for down to earth students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One thing that UNCW is all about is safety. There is literally an emergency call box near you wherever you may be on campus. And, officers will escort you to your room if you are ever out late at night and do not feel comfortable walking alone. It makes me feel very comfortable and safe.
What to do for fun Well, UNCW is literally less than ten minutes away from the beach so that option is always open. And, Wilmington is a great town for college students because there is so much to do there!
Food and Dining There are a lot of choices of where to eat on campus during the week and they are all delicious! You have food dollars and meal swipes which help keep track of how much you are eating. But, on the weekends, there is only one location where you can use meal swipes which is very annoying for people who do not live near it.
Dorm Life Dorms are not the ideal place for a person to live but the dorms at UNCW are very nice and well-kept. They help make the transition to college life easier.
Academic Rigor The academics in this university are intense but necessary to secure a job after graduation.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate! Professors are understanding if a circumstance arises but simply saying, I didn't have enough time will not cut it. You'll get out of it what you put into it. UNCW can benefit you in so many ways but you have to be willing to make an effort to live the college experience.
In three sentences This school has such an awesome environment because of the beach that is only five or so minutes away. All the departments are very organized so there is never any confusion about what is going on around campus. And, there is always something to do making it so easy to get involved!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police is constantly doing rounds as well as the RA's. There is plenty of emergency stations located throughout the campus if need be.
Greek Life Greek life is not like other Universities where they are enemies. Sororities and Fraternities spend time together and are very friendly to everyone.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of Clubs and Activities to join. If you don't find one that you like you may start up your own very easily.
Great for these types of students Great for all types of students. It is a very diverse campus where students will accommodate accordingly. No matter if your a study freak, quiet, loud, responsible, irresponsible, organized student, you will fit here in UNCW.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is Teal Tuesday, where students are supposed to wear teal color clothing to represent school spirit on Tuesdays. There is also Ooze Ball, which is volleyball in the mud, and there is Beach Blast which is held at the begging of the first semester.
Bang for the buck Worth every penny from my own wallet! The experience, tuition, and food is all very price worthy.
What to do for fun Plenty of things to do, the BEACH!! No need to say more.
Food and Dining There is three places on campus where the food is good. Wagnor Hall is really good especially their comfort food station.
Dorm Life It is wonderful! People that attend UNCW are very social and open minded. The dorms are fairly decent, like other universities.
Academic Rigor It is tough, but if it is not then it would not be worth it in the end! Everything that is worth fighting and working for is special, much like a career that will predict your future. It really just depends on what classes you take, some will be easier and others extremely hard.
Tips for prospective students Every day counts! Take as many opportunities as you can, whether it is in classes or internships. Join as many clubs as you can here in UNCW, there is plenty, start looking into study abroad, and make the most out of your semester.
In three sentences UNCW is a wonderful university for many reasons. It is great in academics as well as environment. Teachers and staff will work you in anyway as possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe.
Greek Life Not too big of a Greek scene here...but there are fraternities and sororities. My roommate is in one and she loves it, I am not and I love it. Choose your poison.
Clubs and Activities If you like something you can find a club on it! Or even create one!
Great for these types of students If you are a laid back person with an easy going personality and are down to have fun this school is perfect for you! Also, we have a great nursing, marine biology, education, and business program here, so if you're interested in those UNCW is great!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have two really cool events (not just two but these are just two examples) we put on every year. In the fall the day before classes start, we have an event call Beach Blast and it is where, basically, the whole student body goes to one section of the beach and there we have booths set up with games, volleyball, slack string, you can learn how to surf, and it's just a fun way to meet new people. In the spring we have an event called oozeball and it is volleyball but in the mud! It is an all day event that people start practicing weeks in advance for! Both of these events allow for the whole college student body to come together and just have fun.
Bang for the buck I am an out-of-state student and I feel that every penny spent is worth it because I have had a great overall experience here. In-state tuition is very low and out-of-state tuition is fairly reasonable as well!
What to do for fun Beach! Since we are, so conveniently, located by the beach it is a place to tan and learn how to surf! Plus it will keep you motivated to keep that body in shape!
Food and Dining We have a lot of options here on campus for dining. I am a pescatarian (I eat seafood and vegetables) and I have always found something yummy to eat on campus. While you are here you'll find you might prefer one dining hall over another.
Dorm Life I absolutely loved living in the dorms freshman year even though that was the thing that I was the most terrified about going into college. I lived in the honors dorms which is a way different experience than living in the Galloway dorms or any other dorms but I know friends from other dorms and all have enjoyed their experience.
Academic Rigor We all know the freshman courses are fairly simple classes and probably purposefully designed so but as you climb up the ladder in your major the classes are more rigorous and challenging. I am a marine biology major and while I enjoy the classes they also demand a lot of study time because the material is so dense, but interesting! Happy medium.
Tips for prospective students In choosing your future college always make sure, if you have the chance, to visit before making the final decision; after all, you will live here the rest of your life. Also, personally, I think that Dub's cafe has better food than wagoner hall and if you want to meet a lot of other freshman students opt to live in Galloway!
In three sentences I absolutely love going to UNCW because my overall experience with the classes and people has been phenomenal. First off, since it is a medium sized school the classes are smaller allowing for more one on one time with your professors. Also, the campus is so close to the beach that the city draws in very friendly and easy going people that are so easy to get along and become friends with!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've always felt so safe on-campus. There's campus call boxes all over campus that will immediately connect you to a police officer if needed. I always see campus police walking around campus at night, and in the dorms as well as academic builidings.
Clubs and Activities So many! There's an entire list of clubs and activities that have an academic focus, community focus, or specific interests.
Great for these types of students People who love the beach, warm weather, film studies, marine biology, creative wriring, outdoors,
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Beach Blast! The day before the first day of classes, UNCW holds a huge party on the beach. There's free transportation from the college, tshirts, food, games, and prizes. It's a great way to start off the semester. Teal Tuesday! Every Tuesday we wear teal (our school color) and there's sometimes a prize if you're seen wearing teal. Fall and Spring concerts, we've had All Time Low, Gym Class Heroes, Timeflies, B.O.B., and a ton of other bands come. There's also small concerts and comedians throughout the year. Dub Idol singing competition and Hawk it Out a dancing competition.
What to do for fun There's always a lot of programs going on on-campus, movies every weekend in Lumina Theatre, as well as several programs in the residence halls. You're also only 8 miles from the beach, so when the weather is warm everyone will be there.
Food and Dining You're always going to be able to get pizza, pasta, or a sandwich somewhere on campus. While the major dining halls have limited hours (closing at 9 and only one open on the weekend) there are convenience stores on campus where you can go for a meal if needed. Chickfila, Subway, Quiznos, and several coffee places are on campus. Wag breakfast is also something you'll hear a lot about!
Dorm Life There's always a lot of programs going on with Residence Hall Association and the RAs, so go to those and meet people. Once you get up into upperclassman apartments, you tend to only know the people in your apartment. Really make an effort as a freshman to get to know all the people on your hall. Cornerstone is the nicest freshman dorm, however you do have to apply to live there, but I would highly suggest it. Cornerstone is also nice because in addition to living there you take classes in the building with people from your building.
Academic Rigor It's college, classes are hard, but the wonderful thing about UNCW is that are professors are always willing to help. Once you get into the classes for your major, the size gets smaller so you really get to know professors and students. As a Com. Studies and English major, the bulk of my work is papers and readings with a few tests. But if you find a major you love, you're also able to handle the work load. From my experiences, my classes have been interesting, challenging in a good way, and beneficial to my future after college.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. You're going to hear this a lot, but really, do it. While class is important, there's more to college. UNCW offers so many great organizations to get involved with. I personally have been involved in Association for Campus Entertainment, Residence Hall Association, Campus Crusade for Christ, Lambda Pi Eta (Communication Honor Society) and Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society). The student organizations are where you will meet friends, get references and experience for resumes, and really figure out what you want to do with your life. Find something you love and stick with it. You'll be amazed at how much you will love it and you'll more than likely move up into leadership positions as you continue to stay involved.
In three sentences UNCW has offered me the best possible college experience. My academic studies and student organization involvement have allowed me to continuously grow as a person and be more prepared for a future career. It's a great campus, with great people and a great location.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I would say that compared to other colleges, Wilmington gives you the most for your dollar. We have so much, from clubs and sports to academics and the beach. Whatever you like, we are sure to have it. We recently just renovated the student recreation center, which now houses two indoor soccer courts, racquetball, ping-pong, an outdoor pool, and a full length lap pool. The University is always looking to improve and give students the best experience possible.
What to do for fun The city of Wilmington offers so much to do during your free time. Everyone's favorite, of course, is the beach. You can go and relax with friends, learn how to surf, or just enjoy the rays. If the beach isn't for you there is also historic downtown Wilmington, which offers dining, shopping, lots of tours, and a great nightlife.
Food and Dining Food on campus isn't going to compare to your family's home-cooked meals, but it also isn't terrible. There are a lot of different options when you have a meal plan. Outside of the main dining halls, there are a lot of really delicious places to get food, like Einstein's bagels and Chik-fil-a!
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. Everyone who attends Wilmington is so friendly and the Housing and Residence staff is extremely helpful. Everyone in the dorms are close and you make a lot of friends. I would definitely recommend living on campus, at least for freshman year.
Academic Rigor School is tough, but not unnecessarily hard. You will have to study and put effort into your work, but you will also have a lot of down time. They take cheating and plagiarism seriously, so as long as all your work is your own and you work diligently, you will do just fine.
Tips for prospective students Join Clubs! There is a huge club fair put on at the beginning of the year and I think any college student will tell you that getting involved is the best way to start out the year right. Find things that you are interested in and pursue them. You will meet a lot of like-minded people along the way.
In three sentences The University of North Carolina at Wilmington provides a unique college experience. It is so much fun to live at the beach while continuing your studies. There is truly no other place like it.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck They use our tuition money wisely. They just renovated the recreation center over the summer and it looks great! It is so much bigger and there are many new machines. They recently paved over the bad roads and the bus system is very good here. It runs on a very timely schedule. They also make sure that the faculty are top notch professors. I have not met a bad professor yet. They are all so intelligent and are very good at helping the students learn the material.
Am enjoying being here This campus is so beautiful. There are trees everywhere and all of the buildings are very well constructed. They are currently constructing a new psychology building adjacent to the nursing building and I think it will look very professional and it will be very beneficial. The food is always great here. There is a wide selection to choose from. You can go to the Hawks Nest, which has many different fast food chains, sushi, pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. There is also the dining hall and many other small food court places. The library is always quiet and there are a lot of good resources. The people are all very friendly and it's easy to make new friends here. I think that I am lucky to be able to go to this school. I love everything about it. Plus it's right next to the beach. Who wouldn't love that?
Am learning a lot These professors are amazing. I am a junior this year and I am beginning to take all of the courses for my major. I am an English and history double major. I have always been very impressed with the faculty of UNCW. My English professors are so dedicated to their love of literature and analysis. They make every class fun and interesting, but also a little challenging in order to make you think outside of the box. My history professors are so knowledgeable in their area of study. They are like walking encyclopedias. They want you to learn the material and do a great job at it. All of my professors have been very easy to contact by email and office hours. They encourage you to ask questions and bring your papers to them or the University Learning Center. I always bring mine the the Learning Center and I always get great feedback. It is so refreshing to go to a school where people care if you are learning or not.

Great for these types of students perfect for any type of student; the school caters to diversity
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus students wear teal every tuesday. every thanksgiving, the main dining hall wagoner hall hosts wagsgiving a week before thanksgiving.
Bang for the buck paying out-of-state tuition and i am still getting the best college experience and education i feel i could get.
What to do for fun downtown wilmington is a ten minute drive away and there is always something to do downtown. also, the beach is a ten minute drive away.
Food and Dining there are not many choices for meal swipe options but there are many good choices for food dollars. also there are many cheap restaurants close to campus.
Dorm Life do not choose to live in a living community; the regular dorms (graham, hewlett, and galloway) are much better freshman year experiences.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus i'd say is really safe police is always driving around 24/7 most people have there parties off campus to prevent conflict with the campus police. oh yea, uncw has their own police dept. they are not rent-a-cops. they can arrest you.
Greek Life there isn't any greek houses on campus because the school doesn't allow it, however there are greek apts/suites. i rushed for a frat, was extremely fun. greek life isn't for me so it all depends what type of person you are.
Clubs and Activities there are so many clubs and activities that if you don't find one that suits you...well you can simply create it
Great for these types of students great for all types of students from all walks of life
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus cookout is right off campus and is open until 4am and opens at 6am. everyone always goes there either walking/car/long board.
Bang for the buck they are raising tuition, but for what you pay for you do get a great deal being next to the beach and having many beautiful girls on campus. education is also top notch as well
What to do for fun besides joining an organization, club, or sport they have greek life which many students are part of (mainly females). you have the beach, downtown for nightlife, and other things. you'll never get bored on campus unless you avoid everybody. rec center is amazing with a track, basketball courts, rock climbing, fitness center, indoor pool/outdoor pool (coming in fall 2012). this campus will never bore you, if anything you'll have to much to do.
Food and Dining they have many types of options, my favorite is hawks nest after 6pm because you can use your meal swipe instead of food dollars. most of the dining halls are buffets and have healthy options along with entrees that include pizza burgers and there 4 course special for the day.
Dorm Life they have all types of dorms: party dorm, calm and quiet dorm, or a mix between both. i would say that there's a little bit for every type of person.
Academic Rigor teachers really want you to strive and are always willing to help you get an a in the class. although they have office hours and other classes to teach they will assist in anyway possible.
Tips for prospective students if you love the beach, nice weather, a medium size school than this is the school for you. there are plenty of groups/organizations/events that you can attend so you can be very involved. downtown is awesome and the parties off campus are great as well.
In three sentences i would rate this school a 8.5-10. this school has many friendly people, it's big enough so that you can meet new people, but also a good size to see your friends around campus. teachers are great and ca,pus is really nice with new buildings currently being constructed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Support the school by wearing teal on tuesdays (this tradition is kind of lacking though) The school has it's own thanksgiving before the break at Wagner Hall called Wagsgiving. This is a big deal, most people attend and overeat like crazy.
Bang for the buck Being out of state it's hard to gauge this for in state students. I fully enjoyed my term here and you recommend it to anyone interested.
What to do for fun If you are looking for night life there is always downtown. For anything in the day, the beach is close which offers many activities. Disc golf courses are located in Castle Haynes and Kerr beach, which is a free outdoor activity. There are plenty of boutiques, shops, consignment stores and department stores for the shoppers.
Food and Dining UNCW has many locations for cooked meals and also convenience stores.
Academic Rigor I'm a Biology major, the classes are difficult but the professors are wonderful. They make class interesting and help every student in need.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in whatever you like to do. It is the easiest way to meet people with the same interests as you and to get out of the campus and experience North Carolina. The school has many clubs and organizations that will appeal to everyone. Most importantly though, ask questions when you are confused, the teachers will be patient and students will be helpful. When you have a problem with something around campus or in the classroom, stand up for yourself, people will listen.
In three sentences UNC at Wilmington's beautiful campus makes everyone feel safe and welcomed. The professors are excellent and really care about what the students are learning and how they can improve. It was easy to adjust, grow, and experience everything colleges offer.

Categories Comments Campus Safety no problems. Secluded from town traffic, 200+ alert stations with line-of-sight visibility in mesh. In emergency, can run from one to another and allow tracking. Full police substation on campus with bonafide Chief, no rental cops.
Greek Life healthy but not overwhelming. Dozen-plus gives ample access but nothing done exclusively. Greeks are basically service orgs on campus and blend with student body in all functions
Clubs and Activities 200+, absolutely something for everything
Great for these types of students marine sciences, athletes (all but football), surfers
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus freshman still learning
Bang for the buck out-of-state is way expensive. If you leave in NC, no-brainer!

Clubs and Activities Fencing Club German Club
Great for these types of students Everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There aren't many colleges that take their incoming freshman class to the beach just before classes begin.
Bang for the buck I think UNC-Wilmington offers good value for your money.
What to do for fun Go to the beach. Go into historic Wilmington. The mall is good.
Food and Dining It's not bad for college food.
Dorm Life I was in a suite with 9 other girls. We had a great time getting to know one another. Now I have great friends.
Academic Rigor I found my first year courses to be very challenging. I was glad to be challenged, but I definitely needed to study.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to handle your own affairs. Learn how to do our own laundry. Be self-motivated. You're going to need to study. Get involved and make new friends.
In three sentences The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is absolutely awesome. We have high academic standards, yet there is nothing wrong with college in a beach town. I enjoyed every moment at UNC-Wilmington.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe. There is always a cop around. The police station is right next to the dorms. There is a police officer assigned to each dorm and you meet them your first night there. There is a guard at the front desk of every dorm at nights. UNCW police run a really cool self defense class called Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). It is free and you can get PE credit. There are call boxes every couple of feet on campus. You hit the red button, cops will come. Sign up for the text alert on My seaport. It lets you know if there is anything dangerous on campus, whether it be a gunman or a bad storm.
Greek Life There is a lot of Greek Life on campus. They run a lot of programs and cool activities on campus.
Clubs and Activities There is so many clubs to get involved in: Eco club, Vegan club, Catholic club, sports club, clubs for every major, political clubs, and so much more. Sign up for as many clubs as you can on club day, anything you might be interested in. Clubs are a great way to meet people and get involved in the community. Clubs are great for learning about careers and meeting important people that can help you in the future.
Great for these types of students Beach lovers! Students looking for a great education for a fair price. Marine Bio majors, uncw is one of the best on the east coast.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UNCW is called The DUB to most students. Beach Blast is in the first week of school in Wrightsville. GO! Everyone long boards or bikes around campus. Bring something with wheels. Campus is bigger than you think.
Bang for the buck It is relativity in expensive for in-state students. Books come to about $300-500, depending on your major (don't buy them on campus!). Housing is fairly priced compared to other schools. Laundry is free! UNCW is increasing its tuition and the amount of students they are excepting. It has been increasing every year. This bring the student to teacher ratio up; which is still relatively low but it will be increasing the next couple of years.
What to do for fun The beach! There is lots of stuff to do in wrightsville! Downtown is also a lot of fun. There is the waterfront that has a lot of concerts and street fairs and stuff. The battleship is really cool if you take the tour. There is 2 malls really close to campus there is one that is in biking distance or you can take the bus. And there is another, Mayfaire, that is a little farther but still pretty close, with a movie theater. There is always something to do on campus! If you don't have a car, don't worry! Check the bulletin boards, website and with your RA, you will find something awesome and fun!
Food and Dining The food is great! There are so many options on campus. Wagner (Wag) is the main dining hall. There is also Dub's Cafe in Warwick that is great for lunch. There is Einstein's Bagels, Dunkin Dounuts, and 4 more little shops spread out through campus. Tip!:There is a shop on the second floor of Cameron Hall (the business building). It the only food place on Chancellors Walk. There is always a wide variety, so everyone can find something they like.
Dorm Life I was a temporary in Belk in the beginning of the year. It is kind of inconvenient but it all works out! I ended up living in the University Apartments and loved it. The dorms are kept very clean. They are secure, having elecronic doors, seperate keys, and a guard 24/7. Most dorms are suite style, but one or two are hall style. There is also the University Apartments which are outdoor apartment buildings with a kitchen and living room per suite. They are 4 to an apartment with single rooms. Every dorm has at least on kitchen, computer room with a printer, and a lounge with a tv and couches. There is always something to do in your area. The RAs are great about getting everyone involved. They create programs for every interest and are your number one source for getting involved.
Academic Rigor Freshman year was not very difficult. Expect to spend a lot of time studying and working on assignments but it is more time consuming than anything.
Tips for prospective students My recommendation for future students at UNC Wilmington is get involved! You make so many friends by joining clubs and everyone there will have the same interests as you. Club sports are a great way to meet friends and travel! There are so many clubs for all different interests: Eco club, pre-med club, Pharmacy Club...etc. Club are a great way to get a jump start on your career as well. You meet people in that career field and go on trips that help you learn alot about what an average employee must know and do in that field to be successful. Bring an umbrella everywhere! When it rains, it pours in Wilmington; and it seems to come out of no where. Always be prepared. Make good choices! The beach is ten minutes away, and that's great! But that Calculus test tomorrow is way more important. Work hard now and reward yourself later.
In three sentences UNC Wilmington has a great community. The beach is ten minutes away. There is always something to do.

Greek Life YES! Obviously not as large as other schools but such a close community.
Bang for the buck Small enough where it feels like you can get the one-on-one attention.
What to do for fun Greek life, Overflow, and so many unique clubs. Something for everyone.
Academic Rigor It is what you make it.
Tips for prospective students Be social, there are so many great people here!
In three sentences UNCW is a fantastic school. Definitely not the easy-party school that people assume that it is. I can definitely say that the science classes I have taken here are just as hard as those offered at any of the UNC system schools.

Dorm Life I lived off-campus.
Tips for prospective students Do not go to UNCW if you plan to focus solely on school.
In three sentences At UNCW, it is very hard to find a quite place to study, as the library is always very loud. The teachers I have had were very unprofessional, cared very little for grades based on knowledge of the material only, and were mostly young. The psychology department of UNCW has an atmosphere in which a serious student seems out of place.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The food on campus is a little expensive.
What to do for fun The beach, campus events, campus movies, concerts.
Food and Dining I found that the Dining Hall is usually full of many options, but the food at other places can be over priced.
Dorm Life I found it hard to adjust to at first, but after meeting the right people for me it was easier. Unfortunately my freshman rooming experience was not good and my RA was not too helpful resolving any issues.
Academic Rigor It really depends upon the student you speak to. I know that to after a semester of academic probation if your GPA is not a 2.0 or above you will be dismissed.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. You never know where you'll meet your best friends.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you're that kid who has had everything handed to you and didn't really ever try in school and your family wanted you to get into Chapel Hill but you weren't smart enough so you applied here, this is the school for you. If you love wearing Lily Pullitzer or are a bro you will fit right in.
Bang for the buck You could get a better education for the same price at NCSU
Food and Dining Not a lot of healthy choices. I gained 15 pounds living in the dorms and having to eat the campus food, moved off campus Sophomore year and lost 30. And the food is poorly made.
Dorm Life Hated it
Academic Rigor I give it a 3 because it is hard but there are schools like Harvard. Some of these classes are literally easier than my high school AP's.
Tips for prospective students Look up your profs ratings before you take their class. It will be more beneficial later on to pick a schedule based on how much you will enjoy a class and how good the prof is than making sure you have the perfect schedule time wise. If you're a girl get the 130 meal swipe plan.
In three sentences Wilmington is an okay school. I would suggest it for students who are in the 3.8-4.0 weighted range in college. If you're above that you can probably do better.
