Great for these types of students

Those wanting to pursue an education with the hope of getting a good job after graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

Make the most of your college experience. Get involved early on. Study hard and ask for help if you need it. Most of all enjoy the new friendships you will make.

    Bang for the buck

All colleges and universities are expensive, but I feel the education I am getting at UNI is a good one. It has several majors and minors to choose from with six different major colleges.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. It isn't so small that I feel I am missing out on what a bigger campus might have to offer, and it isn't so big that I feel lost, either. It is just the right size to offer everything you could possibly want in a university from student organizations to athletic events to other activities and recreation.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning to be more independent while at the same time gaining a very valuable education in a safe setting. Not only am I learning good study habits, I am also learning about time management. The professors and staff here really care about their students and are willing to go the extra mile if you need help. With all the free tutoring available on campus it would be very hard to fail a class.

    Free thinkers Hard workers

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let having fun get the best of you your first semester.

    Bang for the buck

Out of Iowas three state schools it is the best. It has the smallest class sizes, so you don't get lost in a mix of hundreds of other student.

    Am enjoying being here

There are lots of different clubs and activities you can get involved in. Almost every collage has there own club and living in Residence halls helps you meet a lot of people.

    Am learning a lot

There are tons of different classes and majors to choose from. The Liberal arts core helps you decided what you actual want to be and makes you a well rounded student.

Great for these types of students

Great for students looking to go into a career in education.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend to keep up on the readings for every class. Get the readings done before class so you can use the class discussions as a review. Also, get involved in extracurricular activities from the very beginning. Take advantage of opportunities that arise. Use the activities to meet new friends. Make the most out of your college experience, and most of all, have fun!

    Bang for the buck

Out of all of Iowa's state schools, this one is the cheapest. First of all, the tuition is the cheapest. Second of all, any football, basketball, wrestling, or other sports gatherings you wish to attend are free to students. At both of the other state schools you have to buy tickets for the season in order to go to the games. I am looking forward to all of these opportunities.

    Will enjoy being here

There are many places to go to have a good time. I am very excited to transfer here. I have many friends that go here and they all love it. They say the town is very nice and has many different activities to participate in on the weekends.

    Will learn a lot

I have visited campus a couple times. Both times I got the feeling that I would be able to learn a lot on campus. Right now I am living at home and attending another college. It is challenging because I am not close to the library. There seem to be many areas around campus that are quiet and would be good study spots.

Great for these types of students

UNI is great for students who are going into teaching or business majors. It is also great for students who like small classes but have enough people where you don't know everyone and everyone doesn't know your whole life story like people did in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun with everything that you do. Don't be shy just be the person you want to be and make as many friends, they will make life alot easier and more fun.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive anywhere you go but at UNI I think it is worth it. They have many different programs and activities that you get in bonus to just paying for school. One program they have is the 2-year advantage plan which locks in the rate for room and board as well as meal plan so if prices go up you can still pay last years lower rate which in the end saves you money. Another good thing UNI offers is free tutoring which you can find for about every subject and the tutors can help you study for a test or even on your homework this is nice because you don't have to pay anything at the time of the visit. The last thing is you get in free to all the sporting events as well as the rec center which is amazing to some.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always something going on whether its a sport activity, hanging with friends, clubs, and meetings. There is always someone around that enjoys doing the same as me. That is what makes UNI enjoyable you find people that you have more incommon with than in high school plus if you live in a dorm your friends are mainly a door away.

    Am learning a lot

My learning is being benefited by the educators here at UNI. The teachers are really good at getting their information acrossed they will also take as much time helping you understand any problems you have, which makes you understand want you are learning and I think that is the best thing for me. The teachers push me to try harder than I have before this is making me learn lots more information as well as new things about myself as well.

Great for these types of students

UNI is great for all students. The UNI campus is beautiful and sometimes reminds me of a small-town community. If you get tired of the same thing just walk a few blocks or drive onto University Avenue and you'll get the bigger city feel. The University of Northern Iowa helps you succeed. They give you the opportunities needed to do your best no matter what type of student you are.

    Tips for prospective students

Get out there and get involved. It's easy to do and it's even easier to make friends. College is a thing you have to enjoy to do well at. Pick a major you like and just have fun with it. UNI is a great school and the advisors and professors work with you and help you make it a good experience.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to a lot of other state universities, UNI doesn't cost as much for what you get. With tuition and room & board, you get free access to the WRC (the school's work out center) and the Health Care Center. You also get free admission into the school programs like plays and musicals and music concerts, and discounted tickets on other concerts and programs that happen at UNI's Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. You also get in free to the sporting events (Go Panthers!).

    Am enjoying being here

UNI is a great school. There's great art programs that go on throughout the year, the classes are easy to get involved in, there are many different clubs and activities you can become a part of, too. The residence halls are nice and it's easy to make friends, especially if you live on campus. I love it here, and I'm glad I decided to come to school at UNI.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here a very helpful. If you ask for help they'll help you. They don't make you feel stupid if you don't get it. Chances are, you're not the only one who doesn't understand. I've learned a lot my first year here.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a medium sized school. Great teacher to student ratio. Smaller or urban type city.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved and find something you are interested in. Leave your dorm room door open when you are in so that people stop in and can you make more friends. Attend some game; the Interlude dance is becoming popular and is so much fun to participate in!

    Bang for the buck

UNI is reasonably prised, especially for instate students. Even though it costs a little more for out of state residents, it is still worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

UNI is a medium sized school with a lot of instate students. It is a suitcase college, meaning lots of people bring cars and leave on the weekends which can be hard for meeting new people, but if you get involved in different organizations or in different dorm activities you are bound to meet some people you share interests with.

    Am learning a lot

As a Freshman, I have been taking mostly classes from the liberal arts core. Some of the lectures can be big, the largest contain about 200 students, however, professors have office hours that you can come in and get help or they are usually good with meeting outside of office hours as well. One great thing is in the business school there are no TA's so you are getting your education from the professors themselves.

    Theatre students!

    Tips for prospective students

Most expensive does not equal the best.

    Bang for the buck

UNI is very reasonably priced, and they have scholarships specifically for out of state students.

    Will enjoy being here

It is a very active campus, and there is something to do for everyone with all of the different clubs and sports.

    Will learn a lot

I spoke with a lady at a college fair, she gave me every piece of information she had. This college is very well rounded in all areas of study.

    Campus Safety

i personally know someone who works for the campus police and they do a good job at sending escorts when you need them at night. the only thing is that uni police love to give out parking tickets, so be aware.

    Clubs and Activities

there's really a lot to get involved in, so much that you need to watch out and not overload. there are people out there that are similar to you, and finding them is easier when you join a group.

Great for these types of students

-like small schools -average class for gen ed is about 40 -like to know everybody, i have seen people from last year in my classes again this year, and it's just gen ed's -want to take the time to better yourself (if you don't care, that's ok, too, but then what's the point of going to college?) -don't mind iowa's crazy weather (extremes: summer=too hot, fall=too windy and it changes every 10 minutes, winter=too cold, spring=too wet) -like they say in iowa: if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

sports... tailgating before uni football games... i absolutely love the beginning of the school year in the fall as there is just so much to see!

    Bang for the buck

general tuition is pretty good for in-state students. there's a big difference between uni and the other state school, that being size. if you want a small state school, uni is the best pick... not u of i or iowa state.

    What to do for fun

uni actually does have a lot to do, but only if you look for it. there are posters everywhere and most of the teachers are involved in some sort of society or club, as well. cedar falls is a good community, and there are lots of ways to get involved by volunteering.

    Food and Dining

it's mostly ok. most students go to the union to eat and once you've gone there about 10 times in your life, you're pretty much done. there are some buffet places on campus and the 23rd street market to buy food at, too. i'm just not one to really like campus food in general. cedar falls and waterloo, however, have tons of places to eat, so i stress again how important it is to have a car.

    Dorm Life

honestly, i don't have an opinion for this because i live off campus as i am still in high school. but, cedar falls is a great town, ideal for college students. make sure you have a car, though, because while we do have some public transportation, it's really not that good. i have seen some of the dorms before, and i think it's pretty average. best bet: live off campus--it gives you more freedom.

    Academic Rigor

uni is challenging, if you find the right things to do. if you only take 3 or 4 normal level classes per semester and don't do anything else, you've gout your above average gpa set. if you really want to challenge yourself, uni gives you that opportunity. try the honors program and join some academic clubs. if you want to stretch your mind, the only person that can do it is yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

do a lot of research. research for your majors, research on your classes, and on your teachers. as a dual enrollment student, i only get to pick from classes that are still open after all the other uni students are enrolled, so i have had a few boring teachers and less than satisfactory classes. just make sure you don't get into anything you can't get out of.

    In three sentences

i actually attend uni through a dual enrollment program, so i am technically in high school and also a freshmen at uni. uni has been good for me as a bridge from high school to college as it is a smaller school. when i really do go to college, i plan on looking for a uni-sized school. i just don't want to go to uni because i have lived here my whole life.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe walking around on campus. I have had to walk alone at night on campus, and each time I have felt very safe. However, if there is ever an instance where someone doesn't feel safe, there are blue emergency signals all around campus, and you can also get safe rides at night.

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't a very big deal here, but it's still there and is noticeable.

    Clubs and Activities

A lot of options for students. I guarantee that there is a group for everyone on campus. The clubs are active and inviting. There are a lot of activities as well, movie nights being one of the most popular.

Great for these types of students

UNI is known for being a great school for secondary education majors, but I think it could suit almost anybody.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Campaniling is the first that comes to mind. It's a tradition that has been passed down through the classes since the Campanile was built. It's a homecoming tradition, and at midnight, you are supposed to stand under the Campanile and kiss your significant other. It is said that if you don't, a brick will fly off and hit you. ;)

    Bang for the buck

It's not too bad. Pretty average for public colleges, but once you get here you notice how much your tuition pays for.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and organizations to get involved with. There is something for everyone. the CAB, Campus Activities Board, host many events, such as movie nights. College Square Mall, Crossroads Mall, and downtown Cedar Falls are just short bus trips away.

    Food and Dining

SO many options to choose from. You can go to the traditional dining centers, the Piazza and the Rialto, or you can go to Mauker Union if you're craving iced coffee, Chinese, or to-go snacks. There are a couple of markets located on campus as well.

    Dorm Life

All of the dorm buildings are nice, even though none of the rooms in the dorms have air conditioning. Bender and Dancer have carpeting. Upperclass housing includes Shull hall, ROTH (residence on the hill), and the new Panther Village. Each residence hall or apartment setting has RA's and they plan a lot of activities for the house residents, including movie nights and house dinners.

    Academic Rigor

Classes tend to be slow for a couple days at the beginning of a semester, but then they dive right into the coursework. There is more out of class time in college than in high school. Remember that for every hour you are in class, you will probably need to study for three hours out of class.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack off once you get here. It's tempting to do, but not doing homework and not attending class only hurts you in the end. Make a habit of using lists, planners, or calendars of some sort. It will come in handy once the classes start picking up speed. Keep an open mind. Get involved in organizations and clubs, it will help with the transition to college, and you will make friends.

    In three sentences

Small enough to have a community feel, large enough to have plenty of opportunities. Numerous organizations and clubs to get involved in. Great academics.

Maybe anyone trying to get into any school whatsover... perhaps not even then.

    Tips for prospective students

These guys don't seem to care if they get new students or not. I received a phone call recently, with the caller asking if I was interested or not in attending. Well, the caller sounded so bored and not enthusiastic at all. I hung up on them. UNI, if you happen to read this, take care in choosing your recruiters. I had no desire to join your school in the first place, and now I am certain of my well-made decision.

Great for these types of students

UNI is great for everyone. There are so many different majors and programs that you can choose from. There are also a lot of different opportunities to do what you want. If you are into sports, there are intramural teams for practically everything. If you like band, you can join one. If you are interested in learning about something new, there are many different electives to choose from.

    Tips for prospective students

I only have one tip, and that is to have fun. It is easy to get bogged down in schoolwork, but there is always a time to have fun. UNI has a lot of opportunities for you to reach out and have a good time while maintaining a good grade point. Remember, college is supposed to be the best time of your life! You get to study what you want while having fun with friends :)

    Bang for the buck

UNI does a great job at keeping prices low while keeping a great program. The campus is impeccably clean and the there is always work done making everything even more amazing. Sometimes I feel like I should be paying more to go here because the programs are so great and they do an awesome job at keeping them that way and making sure the students are getting what they deserve: a good education and a great living experience.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here. I joined the Panther Marching Band and made all of my friends there. We have fun playing games every weekend and it is also great because they are just around the corner from my room! UNI has an awesome campus because it is smaller and easier to get around to everywhere and it is easy to find a good time. I have made a lot of memories here already and it's only been one semester!

    Am learning a lot

I am learning so much here. I am learning to be more independent while living in the residence halls as well as learning a lot about who I want to be. I love the honors program here and all of the professors are awesome. They are easy to get along with and talk to and they do a great job at what they do. The Liberal Arts Core helps a lot when it comes to deciding what I actually want to do. When I first came here I thought that I wanted to be a history major, but from taking all of the required classes I have learned that history might not be the right path for me. Overall the classes are great, the teachers are great, and the surroundings are amazing.

Students from a larger school who want a small college experience, but don't want to feel like they are still in high school. Also, students from small schools who don't feel comfortable going to an extremely large state school.

    Tips for prospective students

Join some kind of club within your first year, or get to know the people on your floor in your dorm.

    Bang for the buck

Most of the classes in your major field are very useful and actually interesting. Most of the dorms are nice and a good size. The dining center has good food, and there are many options, but the food does get old after a while. Overall, I feel I am getting what I am paying for.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the size of the campus. It's small, but not too small. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from one end of campus to the other. The campus feels very safe. Because the college is smaller than other state colleges, you really have to make an effort to meet new people.

    Am learning a lot

This is definitely a very good school to go to, especially for an elementary education major. The teachers are very personal and understanding. If you are having problems in a class, you can meet personally with the professor, or go to the tutoring center for free. Most of the classes are small sizes, around 20-30 people. As an education major, you get to start your field experience as early as freshman year.

MUSIC STUDENTS! The music and fine arts division is simply the best that I've found here in the midwest.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus! As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt completely at home. You really can't know if you love a school until you're there, so visit!

    Bang for the buck

If you're a high-ranking student, you can easily receive scholarships from this school, especially from the school of music. I'll most likely be attending for less than $5,000 in tuition a year for out of state.

    Will enjoy being here

During my visit, I met two students, Joel, a member of the double bass program, and his girlfriend, Erin. Erin is a trumpet player and a campus tour guide. They were extremely friendly and both had nothing but great things to say about student life. Truly kind people who seem excited to have new students! Like I said, the music program seems extremely tight-knit!

    Will learn a lot

After a meeting with the Doublebass professor, Hunter Cappocioni, I received calls from the head of the School of Music, the professor of percussion, the orchestra director and the marching band director. Obviously this is a tight-knit community of educators and students. In the forty-five minutes I spent taking a lesson from Dr. C, I learned more about my technique than I have in two years of private study. I can not provide a review of the non-music educators, but the music program is obviously very strong and a great place to be!

The University of Northern Iowa is open and welcoming to any kind of student. They understand that everyone is unique and different in their own way, and they want us to express that.

    Tips for prospective students

Always ask questions! Going to a college or university can be very overwhelming, but never think that you are the only one who doesn't have everything figured out. Being a college student isn't always perfect, it comes with a lot of stress and responsibilities. Just remember to take time for yourself and have a little fun.

    Bang for the buck

All students who have been accepted to a college or university understand that it doesn't come cheap, but at the University of Northern Iowa, I know that the money I spend to get a good education is worth it. There are always opportunities such as career fairs to help me stay on the right tract to find a great job after graduating.

    Am enjoying being here

The very first day I moved onto campus was great. I was so worried about the experience living with a complete stranger, but the projects and group meetings we had really helped me to express myself in ways I never have before. The campus is not too small and just big enough so that I could meet someone new everyday. I have always felt comfortable at UNI and I wouldn't change my decision to become a panther for anything.

    Am learning a lot

One thing I really like about UNI is their consistency to excel students in every way possible. The professors are great and always willing to help students when they can. The University provides all sorts of majors to choose from and tutor centers for those who need extra help in class. I have learned a lot in my classes as well as with myself.

Great for these types of students

I would say that UNI is for students who want a high quality education for an affordable price, all the while having the support system of a strong college family--the whole campus! In other words, I think that UNI is a great fit for a variety of students, and if anyone is considering the school, they should definitely come up for a visit and check it out!

    Tips for prospective students

College can be a very overwhelming change, but at UNI, support is all around you. My biggest tip is to not fear the change but to embrace it. You are embarking on a new journey, and we are all here for you. Also, visiting a school can make all the difference. Schools feel differently when you are at them versus how the look on their website!

    Bang for the buck

Although college education is not an expense to be taken lightly, I cannot help but feel that I am getting more than what I am paying for at UNI. The tuition is simply not as bad as so many other schools, yet with the astounding faculty and amazing campus life, they would have every reason to be. Still, the cost is not too hefty. UNI is definitely the perfect fit.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus life at UNI is incredible! The entire atmosphere at UNI is warm and welcoming, and there is always a way to get involved with others. With the variety of clubs, organizations, and athletics, it would be a challenge to get bored here.

    Am learning a lot

The quality of the faculty and staff is absolutely fantastic. It's hard not to notice that the professors are not only exceedingly talented educators but also have a true care for their students. This makes it easier to connect to the teachers, and having a good teacher can make all the difference in the quality of an education.

Great for these types of students

I believe this college is great for students who are majoring in teaching, mathematics, science, accounting, business, marketing, agriculture, communiation, special eduation, and many other programs. It also isn't too big of a campus once you get used to your surroundings and most classes aren't too big.

    Tips for prospective students

You might want to take a campus tour before classes start. I didn't know there was a computer lab in the bottom level of the library until my second semester here. I also didn't know about the computer lab in the bottom of Maucker Union or about La Vida, which is a coffee shop where one can get free cookies, free smoothies, and free coffee on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition isn't bad compared to other 4 year universities. Community colleges are probably less expensive, but those are also only for two years. Books might be expensive, but can rent them for cheaper on CampusBookRentals.com. Plus, one can find jobs on or off campus to help pay for tuition/school supplies/room and board/food/etc.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. Even though I don't live on campus, I am generally on campus from morning until like 10:00 PM because there are so many events/activities that go on throughout the week. It isn't too big and it isn't too small and all of my professors for my classes have done a great job teaching. I have also been able to connect with other Christians on campus through Intervarsity, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, BASIC Plus, BASIC, and Navigators. There are so many ministries and campus clubs/organizations that one can get involved in.

    Am learning a lot

get scholarships! don't wait like i did until it was too late unless you really want to have to pay off the loans. don't judge a school by it's football team. if you want to go to a state school for medical, go to uofi. want to go to agriculture or engineering? go to isu. what about education, music, and psychology? come here to uni. good luck in your college search!

    Bang for the buck

i didn't get much scholarships but i was able to pay for my education in loans and one simple grant.

    Am enjoying being here

There is no other school I would want to be at! I love it here and I have made so many friends. The only thing that sucks is being nearly 3 hours away from home and no car. But it's worth it.

    Academic Rigor

i'm in some really easy classes or classes i have already taken before. next semester will prove for me to be a challenge however.

    Bang for the buck

It seems like they do a very good job of giving financial aid. I don't think it would be too expensive for most people to attend.

    Will enjoy being here

It seemed like a really small campus, and I liked the tight knit aspect of it. However, I don't know if I would really like to go there, I'll need to check it out again.

    Will learn a lot

I have no doubt that you will learn a lot. They have the best business school in Iowa. However, if you are not there for business or education, I would advise that you not go there. If you graduate with some other degree from UNI, you will be laughed at to your face at job interviews.

Any high school student that is planning on attending college must be ready to study and have a yearning to learn and do well. UNI college life is fun and full of events, but college is college no matter where you go. You need to work hard and take time to study and do homework.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a GREAT college education that doesn't cost an arm and a leg as well as a perfect size (not too small and not too big), then choose UNI. There is a sense of community but it's big enough to not feel like high school.

    Bang for the buck

UNI is worth the money, and isn't nearly as expensive as a private school, with just as good if not better professors. Even in big lecture halls at UNI, professors can call out students by name in a class of 300.

    Am enjoying being here

There are always events going on around campus, making daily life far from boring. Whenever students need a break from studying or just need to have some fun, all they have to do is look up CAB events and see what is going on that night. There are countless clubs to join, whether for athletics or hobbies. Plus, you can start your own club if you aren't satisfied with all that is currently available.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Northern Iowa deserves a five star rating. Professors genuinely care about their students and make sure they understand the material. Classes are interesting due to passionate professors who make learning fun and applicable to everyday life.

one thing we do during homecoming is what we call campaniling. this is where, when the bells start to ring at midnight at the campanile, you and your significant other, or another single person that is there, kiss. there is a legend that the person that you kiss during this time is who you will end up marrying.

    What to do for fun

i've touched base a little on things to do but there is so much more. we are located right next to what we call the hill. here, there are a few bars, if you like to go out, there are a few places to eat and about two or three places to get tattoos and piercings, if that's something you're into.

    Food and Dining

the food is not bad at all. its set up like a buffet style restaurant. you can submit recipes to their facebook page and they will test it out and if they like it, they will serve it for everyone to try. there is usually something that you'll want. we have a pasta area, a sandwich area (similar to subway), a fast food type area, pizza, desert and a home style area. so, like i said, there is always something that will tickle your fancy.

    Dorm Life

live in the dorm your first year! you meet tons of people and there is always something going on. each week the ra's will have a program that is either playing a game, going out somewhere as a house or even just going to dinner together. also, there are dorm wide events where anyone in the dorm can participate. one that is very popular are the raves that campbell hall has. they're super fun.

    Academic Rigor

i wouldn't say that it's particularly hard here. but it is college and things are much different than what it was in high school. if times do get tough, there are tutors available and teachers will happily help any student that ask for help. the library also has many rooms you can rent for a few hours if you need to do some studying. if one was in need of relaxing, the rec center has a place for getting massages which always helps me.

    Tips for prospective students

i would say to definitely figure out what major you want to be before coming here. i notice that while it is easy to switch majors, it may put you behind if you want to finish in four years. also, attend the football games, the basketball games, just go to anything public. the students here, even the teachers, are very outgoing and fun. there are many things to do on campus, and i would definitely get involved with anything that interests you because you meet so many awesome people. one last thing, keep up the grades from the start. it is very hard to raise your gpa once it has fallen. give it your all from the start and you will do great.

    In three sentences

at uni, you will feel at home. everyone is very friendly. the food is great!

There really is no excuse for not being able to find one to participate in because there are so many, almost all possible areas of interest are covered. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are very many homecoming traditions such as campaniling where everyone goes to the campanile at midnight for a kiss with their significant other or whoever they may find there. The Hill and Main Street is where all the nightlife is located at and usually you can have a good time there.

    Bang for the buck

The quality of education I have received thus far there is well worth the price and can easily compete with many of the other bigger universities around the U.S.A. Your standard of living also is pretty good here, nothing is really overpriced I don't believe.

    What to do for fun

You can get into most of the UNI athletic events free of charge with your student ID, unlike almost every other university in the U.S.A. So those are always a good choice and their teams are always competitive, it makes for a pretty good time.

    Food and Dining

The two dining centers are pretty good, but general consensus says that Piazza is typically better than Rialto. There are also many different small restaurants around, including your big name ones as well.

    Dorm Life

Everyone is really friendly which makes it very easy to make connections and meet new people in and around your dorm. The rooms are decently sized and the facilities are always kept respectably clean.

The campus has a Campanile in the center where, during homecoming, there is a tradition of Campaniling. This tradition involves tons and tons of students meeting at the Campanile to kiss someone at midnight. Legend has it that, if a brick falls on one of the heads of the kissing couple, they aren't meant to be together. Or something of the sort. I think that the tradition has gotten a little lost in translation, and now most students just do it for the fun of it all.

    Bang for the buck

Like I said, tons of things are free. Plus you have professors who genuinely care about your education, the Academic Learning Center to help with almost anything you need, the Wellness and Recreation Center as well as other places on campus that students can go to work out for free or play basketball or racquetball, etc. TONS of stuff to do!

    What to do for fun

One of my favorite things at UNI is the free movie night that they offer in the Union. The movies are ones that have just recently been out of theaters, you get free popcorn and pop, and the movie. It's like going to a movie theater, but on campus and 100% free. They also have concerts on campus (my first year at UNI Jay Sean came, Jason Aldean has been there a few times, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert. A lot of country, yes, but still fun!) that students get a discounted rate for tickets. People like Frank Warren from Post Secret have come to talk (which was a free event with your student ID). There are so many things on campus for free that it hardly makes sense to go off campus to do things like go to movies.

    Food and Dining

UNI has great food! From the Union to the dining centers, it's all fantastic. They have places that you can get a simple lunch meat sandwich, to stir fry similar to Hu Hot.

    Dorm Life

I haven't ever lived in the dorms, but I have many friends who have, and they give it nothing but praise. I know that, for Freshman, there is a springboard program which means you will live in a hall with only other Freshman, and they have tons and tons of on campus activities for students to attend for free.

    Academic Rigor

UNI is an academically challenging school, but there are always professors to help. Also, we have an Academic Leaning Center which offers help with everything from writing papers, to tutoring for classes, and help with creating a schedule that works for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors. Not necessarily in the 'teacher's pet' sort of way, but get to know them by going to office hours and asking for help. They love when students ask for help! Also, do not be afraid to talk in class. It's all for the learning process.

    In three sentences

UNI is a great school, with amazing faculty who are always willing to help students learn. The campus is gorgeous, it's fairly small, but it's perfect. You can't go wrong with this school, and you have to work harder to fail than to succeed, because the professors genuinely care about your education.

A wide variety offered at two different buffet style dining centers make good food easy to come by.

    Dorm Life

Going on 3 years in Campbell hall, the dorms act as a home away from home and always make me feel welcome.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, classes vary from moderate to difficult but always reasonable.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know as many people as possible. The more connections you make the easier your classes may become and the more fun you will have.

    In three sentences

A great quality institution, with strong academic programs. A place to meet quality friends. A place to get the best education for a price that most students can afford.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs on campus. There is a club for almost anything, and if there isn't one for you then you can start on for yourself.

Great for these types of students

UNI is great for students who are interested in teaching and for students that are interested in business. It is still a very good school for everything else, so don't worry.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition at UNI is really cheap and there is so much to do. Tuition is only $7,000 dollars for Iowa residents. The professors love their jobs, so classes fun, but you actually learn too. Students get into the sports events for free and get to work out, swim, or climb the rock wall for free.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do for fun. There is a club or organization here for almost anything that you can imagine, and if there isn't one that you like you can start your own. One of the best things to do at UNI is go to the football games. All of the students get to excited and cheer on the team together.

    Food and Dining

The food here is GREAT! It is buffet style so you eat as much as you want! There are also so many choices of what to eat! The ice cream that they have is amazing too!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great! I haven't lived in one, but all my friends who do say that they love them. The dorms are a great way to make friends because everyone is so welcoming.

    Academic Rigor

I will admit that I didn't study as much in high school so it is more difficult for me to sit down and study for a test or a quiz, but you will need it. College is, in my opinion, a lot harder than high school and the answers aren't just handed to you.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest living on campus at least for the first year. I chose to live off campus and I almost feel like I am missing out on some of the fun of being a college kid. I would also suggest studying quite a bit and asking for help when you need it. The difference they make is enormous! I would also suggest getting involved in groups and activities that you find interesting.

    In three sentences

I love the atmosphere here at UNI. The students are amazing and the professors are always there to help. The class sizes are perfect for someone who is looking for a college that has a lot going on but isn't too big.

Yes, But I don't know anything about it.

    Clubs and Activities

Accounting Club, however when you sign up for an event, 3-4 weeks in advance, and then you have major test and a project to study for, they shouldn't get bent out of shape, when you have to bow out. I do have fun at the events though, great networking especially this my senior year.

    Bang for the buck

NO! I contributed 15% of MY tuition to a scholarship fund for low income, out of state student recruitment, and honor students. WHY, they can borrow just like I did. They can owe $25-$30,000 at the end of their college experience and pay it back, just like me. Financial Aid is terrible for the middle class, this year my family had 2 students going to college, there is no FREE money for us.

    What to do for fun

Get involved. CIty of Cedar Falls has a great Main Street. Be careful on the Hill.

    Food and Dining

Why is the lowest meal plan to attach to a dorm package 14 meals? There should be 9-10 meal plan. The all you can eat needs to be changed. And there needs to be a revamp to the meals. After 1 1/2 months my sister hates the food.

    Dorm Life

I visited the dorms. I didn't actually live in them. I could get an apartment for 12 months for the price of a dorm for 9 months. However my sister lives in the dorms and she really likes it. Do the panther pick, she found a great roommate.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers need to understand that I paid for my tuition, borrowing most of the money. I don't feel they understand that. Some of the business teachers don't teach the material expected to know for the tests, they get off the subject each and every class. In Auditing I haven't understood anything I have been taught. He's even said he's been fired from so many schools, why did UNI hire him? I hope I pass.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to change your major I did twice. Make sure you talk to your professors. And ask quesitons in class, no question is a dumb question. Get a turtor if you need it. Make sure to stay organized, get a planner. Don't blow off studying.

    In three sentences

UNI is the best school for Majoring in Accounting. UNI is just the right size campus, not too big and not too small. UNI is located in the best city in Iowa, Cedar Falls.

    Campus Safety

The campus security is always on call and willing to come get a student from the far parking lots and drive them to the doors. There are also many different emergency towers spread out across campus.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is close-knit on the UNI Campus. There are four sororities; Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Zi Delta, Alpha Phi, and Gamma Phi Beta; and there are four fraternities; Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The fraternities and sororities work closely within each other through philanthropies, mixers, and all-greek events. The Chapters are generally under 100 people so close relationships are easy to form with many sisters/brothers. The Greek community gets involved with activities within the campus and try to expand to a variety of students to join.

    Clubs and Activities

Intramurals are always going on and they are easy to get into. The WRC is also open every day and students can rent gyms for basketball, volleyball, wolleyball, and raquetball, or they can go to the workout area on the third floor. An indoor track and swimming pool/lap pool is also available.

Great for these types of students

UNI is a great school for students who are thinking about education ro business majors. And is also a great school for students who came from small towns and want a larger student base or students who came from large cities and want a smaller student base. The class sizes are generally 30-35 students per class but the campus isn't so small that everyone knows each other.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A tradition at UNI is Campaniling the friday night of homecoming week. When a new student arrives on campus they recieve a traditions book. This book is full of traditional activities for students to do before they graduate. If the book is full by graduation, that student gets a special award at the graduation ceremony. One of the most well-known locations on campus is The Hill. This is the place where the bars and restaurants are at on campus. The Hill is a big place for students to go to have a fun night either during the week or for weekend nights out.

    What to do for fun

The Campus Activities Board has many activities each month and keep the students involved with each other. There are movie nights and other activities within the dorm buildings that the RAs put on. The Hill is also a place to have fun, wether partying or watching partyers, it makes for an enjoyable night.

    Tips for prospective students

One of my tips is to stay involved as much as possible. Staying involved helps students meet new people, keeps them busy, and helps their resume become well-rounded. Another tip is to know how many credit hours is too much. Some classes require a lot of reading and time out of class so it would be better to keep a limited amount of credits and not overload the homework levels.

    In three sentences

The University of Northern Iowa is a medium size college with smaller classes. The campus is very compact and beautiful, making it easy to get around. The University of Northern Iowa has a wide range of majors and the professors are willing to help and understand what they are teaching about.

    Academic Rigor

The courses vary immensely between professors for difficulty level but I haven't found any to be unfair or exceptionally difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

UNI has a great public safety department, who respond quickly to calls and will escort upon request. There are also emergency poles throughout campus allowing you to push a button if you feel unsafe and a officer will be with you in minutes. Since UNI is on the smaller size in regards to campus, it is very well lit and very open which is great for safety at night.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is not a large part of UNI, there are a few major sororities and fraternities but they are not the main priority for students in regards to involvement and socializing.

    Clubs and Activities

There are what seems like an infinite amount of clubs and activities on campus. Whether it be athletic, educational, or just plain fun UNI has an activity or club for anyone. The promotion for these clubs and activities are also very good. There are fliers everywhere with contact info, professors along with other employees of the university suggest various ways to be involved and are more than willing to assist someone with participating in clubs or activities.

Great for these types of students

Business and Education majors and those who learn better with smaller class sizes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UNI offers whats called a traditions challenge where if you complete all of the traditions you get to wear a pin at graduation. One of the traditions which seems to be a favorite of all students is called campaniling where students go at midnight to the campanile located at the center of campus and kiss someone. They can either bring someone or kiss someone randomly. The turnout is phenomenal and the reviews are great.

    Bang for the buck

At UNI you receive a great education and wonderful counseling, along with many opportunities to get involved and make friends. The cost of UNI is reasonable and there are also many scholarships available. The class sizes are remarkably smaller than other universities due to the size of UNI. This is very conducive to learning because the professors usually know you on a first name basis. You are not just another number.

    What to do for fun

The campus is great for those who like running, walking or biking. There is also a wellness and recreation center where students can play basketball inside, rock climb, swim, workout, and get help with athletic trainers. There are a lot of little restaurants around campus which are fun to go to, as well as a few bars for those interested in that type of activity.

    Food and Dining

The dining centers are fantastic at UNI. There are 2 centers on either side of campus, offering a variety of food for everyone. The meal plan works with the room plan saving money for you, and can also be purchased separately. There is also a to go place in one of the dining centers which is helpful for students on the go or in a hurry.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not the greatest at UNI because they are somewhat old. The good thing about UNI is that the campus is small enough so living in the dorms makes walking to class much easier. Recently UNI has constructed what is called Panther Village which is an apartment complex right on campus next to one of the dining centers and other dorms. This is for upperclassmen only though, but it is still a great option for those not wanting to live in a dorm but still want to be on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at UNI are remarkable especially when you get into classes in your field of study, instead of just the gen eds. Professors challenge you and are always available for extra help. The Academic Advising Center is also a wonderful tool that the university supplies to students with questions concerning their academic future.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get involved and get out of your comfort zone consisting of high school friends, because with such a small university it can be easy to miss great opportunities if you stick to what you are used to.

    In three sentences

The University of Northern Iowa is a great school because of its academic core along with its perfectly sized campus and involvement opportunities. The university offers programs for almost every field of interest, and ensures equal learning opportunity for everyone. The atmosphere at UNI is extremely welcoming, making the transition to the university much more easy.

Look deeply into the course you are going to be taking. College is not about price but about what you learn. My professors were just as tough as some of the top tier schools I looked into. I know I came out more prepared than students from some of those schools.

    In three sentences

The University of Northern Iowa has high standards and rigor that prepares their students for the real world needs. I enjoyed my experiences on a small campus with a big heart and loads of opportunity. They sent myself and many of my friends out of Iowa to destination all over the world to share what we have learned with others.

    Campus Safety

I feel super safe on campus. Student patrol is always available to call if you ever feel like you feel unsafe walking across campus at night and will happily escort you. There are blue emergency buttons & phones scattered all across campus that light up on little blue towers for emergencies or if you ever feel threatened. Campus Police patrol around and are super friendly. Up as late as the students. Sometimes they even chill in Russell to hear the music majors practice every once in awhile.

    Greek Life

There is a greek life on campus, and while I have never been apart of it, I have close friends who are super involved and love it! So if you want to be a part of it, take the risk and go for it!

    Clubs and Activities

I don't think I can even name them all! But its easy to find out about them. In the fall pretty much over half of the clubs will chalk the sidewalks for all their welcomes and ice-breakers please join our club things. Some of the cool clubs on campus are long-boarding club, anime club, UNIFI, Colleges Against Cancer, etc.

Great for these types of students

Any type of students! UNI really has something for everybody. Well, unless you're a Hawkeye fan. Haha just kidding.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Campaniling is a popular one. The campanile is the giant clock tower in the middle of campus that will sometimes randomly play cool music--- like versions of harry potter have been heard before. But on homecoming night grab your special someone, and when it hits midnight kiss them! A ton of people are there! Supposedly the legend is if you kiss under the campanile and a brick doesn't fall on your head well you are good for each-other. (No bricks have been recorded to have ever fallen yet). They also hand out free pins & chap-stick right before. Woo free stuff.

    Bang for the buck

University of Northern Iowa has a little bit of everything. Like lets say sports are your thing? Well that's great because as a student you get into UNI sports games free with your UNI ID card. Not really a sports fanatic? Go to a play, because you get two free student tickets for the shows every semester. It's the cheapest university school, yet amenities wise it really offers the most.

    What to do for fun

The hill always has different bars and restaurants popping up. It's a popular weekend hot spot, but I prefer downtown Cedar Falls myself. The hub is a bar that has great live music and not a bad price either. When I go back next year, its' definitely where I'll be spending my first weekend. If night life isn't for you, downtown has Scratch cupcakes, which if you haven't heard of them yet---you will. It's a CF must have because they are so good. There is always a little bit of something for everyone in good ol' CF.

    Food and Dining

The dining centers are open long hours, including a late night for those late night study sessions--- there is a variety of selections, and both dining centers have kind of their own style of things. Of course the dining centers can't beat your mom's home cooked meals, but that's what appreciating going home if for.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is kind of unique in its' self, but I think UNI has pretty clean dorms compared to some of other schools. There is always alot of programs and free food around the dorms to get residents to meet each-other. I always felt safe when living in my dorm at UNI.

    Academic Rigor

University of Northern Iowa has a great staff. I highly respect all the professors I had last semester. While some had unique ways of teaching they were all helpful, and most of them knew me by name.

    Tips for prospective students

Find your classes before the first day, don't just stick with old high school friends, because everyone changes to a point just due to the fact that you don't have anyone telling you what to do. Have fun, but try to balance yourself, or you will fail.

    In three sentences

University of Iowa is big enough to meet someone new everyday, but also cozy enough to find everything quite easily, making you feel right at home. A wonderful atmosphere for sure.

    Campus Safety

I was always told by my father to never walk alone around campus at night by myself, but I can honestly say that with the UNI police walking around at night I feel completely safe. The lights on campus are always on so there is a light pathway from place to place. I have never felt unsafe on campus while I have been there.

    Clubs and Activities

UNI offers so many different clubs for students to join, there is a list of around 100 from Harry Potter clubs to Chemistry. There is no limit for how many a student can join, and I would strongly urge joining the clubs because students will meet other students with similar interests. The campus activities put on are always fun and there are always a ton of students who take part, which makes it even better.

Great for these types of students

UNI is great for all types of students because there is an array of students all over campus. The science department is phenomenal, the language arts department, the math department, the art department, and every other department. Every single student is welcome and it's great for anyone willing to learn and wanting to find a place to fit in at.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a traditions challenge at UNI that all incoming freshman are told about at orientation and the goal is to get it done by the time of graduation. There is one tradition on Homecoming week that so many people take a part of: it's called Campaniling, where students go to the Campanile the Friday night before Homecoming and at midnight all the student kiss. The traditions challenge is something that I urge future students to do because it gives you a chance to do everything that UNI offers.

    Bang for the buck

UNI is a public university and it's the least expensive in Iowa, but that doesn't mean that it is lacking in areas of academics. UNI gives so many different opportunities from getting involved with groups on campus, to getting to know the professors on a deeper level. UNI is small enough to feel like home and that is something that other universities in Iowa lack.

    What to do for fun

There is so many things to do around campus, whether it's hanging out with friends in the Union over a cup of coffee, playing sand volleyball, or sitting outside with friends on gorgeous afternoons. There is always students starting up a game of four square in the middle of campus by the Union, a group playing with a slap rope, or ultimate Frisbee in Lawther Field. UNI always has something going on, and the students are always welcome to join in the fun at any point in time.

    Food and Dining

The two dining centers on campus serve different foods and they do a great job at giving a wide array of food for those who are picky eaters, like myself. At the dining center they have vegan food, sandwiches, pasta, Chinese food, pretty much anything you could want. The dining centers are so good, one usually ends up eating a lot at once sitting!

    Dorm Life

The RA's on campus do an amazing job at making students, freshmen particularly, feel welcome in the dorms. There are so many people that one would meet just in the dorms, from the dorm meetings, to the activities put on by the RA's. Living in the dorms at UNI has been a great experience and I would suggest to any new freshmen that living in the dorms helps make college a great time.

    Academic Rigor

The academics can be difficult depending on what courses and what major an individual has, but that doesn't mean that there are not any ways to make the academic load easier. First professors are always more than willing to help if one ever has a question or a need; second there is an academic help center where students who need help can get free tutoring for his/her academic needs. UNI's academics are tough, but there are ways to make it easier and UNI does a great job at helping to make it a positive experience for every student.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors, the more the professors know you the better off you will be in the class. It's always weird going up to a professor the first time, but honestly, the professors LOVE to meet their students and really take an interest in their students. Also remember to study, college is a fun time and I want you to enjoy it as much as possible, but remember what you're at college for! :)

    In three sentences

To me, UNI is an amazing campus full of amazing people! The professors are always willing to help and it's always taught by the professors themselves and not a TA or a graduate student, which is awesome! I would give UNI a 10/10 and strongly urge other students to consider UNI because it will be a wonderful experience, I promise you this!

Personally, I liked living in the dorms. You meet a ton of new people and its a great environment to be in.

    Campus Safety

There are campus police everywhere, and they are very easy to contact. Every house in every dorm has at least one emergency phone, as well as posted phone numbers.

    Greek Life

I personally don't participate in Greek life, but I have heard nothing but good things from my firends who do.

    Clubs and Activities

Quidditch is surprisingly popular on campus. It's just a bunch of student who get together and play something like a hybrid between Quidditch and soccer. There are two mainstage shows in the theatre, as well as many student run productions, and one doesn't have to be a theatre student, even though so many students seem to think they do. There is also a traditions handbook, of traditions that a student should try in their UNI career. Panther cries are great for the school spirit at homecoming, and Pride Week always features a great drag show. There is also a burlesque troupe in Cedar Falls that a lot of students participate in.

    What to do for fun

UNI is a wet campus, so I know that some students like their drinking and partying. I prefer to enjoy the improv troupe, No Shame Theatre, CAB movies in the union, and just being outside with my friends. Football games are always great, I've never gotten so into a football game like I do at UNI. There are plenty of fun places to go in town, too. And Waterloo is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, so there is always shopping as well!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to do what you need to in order to get questions answered. I won't lie that there are some flaws with communications within the staff and administration.

    In three sentences

UNI has a great small school feel while getting a big school education. I love how personal everyone is in my department, we all know each other by first names. I'm really glad I transferred here.

Campaniling: if you don't kiss someone under the campanile at midnight on homecoming, at some point in time during your four years you will die an untimely death. So people say.

    What to do for fun

There's plenty to do at UNI and around Cedar Falls, there's disc golf and laser tag. If you are outdoors type there's a rock wall, and a lot of trails to explore.

    Food and Dining

Well like any college the food isn't as good as home cooking. After a few months the food just doesn't taste as good as you'd hope for. But there are a lot of options to choose from.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a lot of fun. Since the school is fairly small you get to know a lot of the people in your dorm. There are a lot of activities within each dorm for students to participate in.

    Academic Rigor

All of the professors are very understanding, if you ever have conflicts just go talk to them and they're usually cool with it. People understand the importance of studying, but also are ready to have a good time. The univerity itself encourages students to try hard and to get good grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to take the ALECs (math entrance test) early, otherwise you may not be able to get in a math class your first semester.

    In three sentences

UNI is great for anyone pursuing a degree in education. I believe it is the best of the three state schools in Iowa. UNI is a small campus, which gives you the opportunity to meet and interact with more people.

There is a tradition for the night of the home coming football game called campaniling which is when you and your significant other go to the tower and kiss at exactly midnight. It is supposed to be a good luck thing for your relatuionship and mean that you will be together forever.

    Bang for the buck

For a University everything is really well laid out for your money. We have lots of things added into our tuition that some other schools do not have such as a free health center, pool (with a slide), massage therapy, and psychiatrists to help with any uneasy feelings.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities for all students to be apart of; there is a wide range of sports and other clubs that have to do with school, art, or just playing four square in from of the union.

    UNI is very safe!

    Greek Life

Not good compared to Iowa & Iowa State. Very lackluster in this aspect.

    Bang for the buck

For what you get, I would say that UNI provides a great experience.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs. A lot of things to do on the weekends. Parties. Movies are shown in random places around the campus every now and then. Meet new people.

    Food and Dining

The Dining centers are expensive, but they have quite a few choices. Decent food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are okay, but during the first part of the year it is hot for the rooms that don't have air conditioning. There are many opportunities to meet new people, but I wouldn't say that UNI's dorms are the best I have seen. Average at best compared to Iowa State's and Iowa's social life.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are difficult, but they are set up for you to learn as much as possible in an efficient manner. The topics are made to have you use your critical thinking skills, so don't expect to not study and get an A on an exam (in most cases). The material that they teach requires further reading than just going to lecture. In terms of pushing you past your limits academically, I would say that that is a major benefit of UNI over the other surrounding state schools.

    Tips for prospective students

Going to classes is probably the most important tip I can offer. If you don't make your class, you are wasting YOUR money and time. Keep track of homework due dates, and do them before the last minute. Join multiple organizations to meet new people and to find out new things that you might enjoy. Go to professors office hours; many times professors have no one come in. You'll need to get letters of recommendations later on, and if the teacher doesn't remember you, how do you expect them to write a letter of recommendation? Utilize the WRC, the ITTC, the library, and all the other things that come with UNI. You pay for it, so why not use it?

    In three sentences

The University of Northern Iowa has a renowned Business Program; In 2013, the CPA exam pass percentage for students sitting was 100% on all four sections. The college offers hundreds of organizations to get involved in, and the community of the college is almost like a family. UNI is a great choice for a student looking to pursue an education in everything from business to philosophy.

    Food and Dining

Two main dining centers offered. Several food carts throughout campus and the union has a cluster of restaurants. There's also markets available on campus for your shopping needs.

    Dorm Life

Never lived in the dorms, but they do have yummy food and offer several different on campus housing options aside from dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Level of effort required in class is about the same as other colleges I've been to.

The University of Northern Iowa is one of the safest campuses in Iowa. This campus is very friendly as well, people are very welcoming and building a family of friends is very easy and these friends will last a lifetime.

UNI has a very diverse and deep group of clubs on campus. From student government to even an anime club, students can choose from anything to be apart of when they arrive at UNI.

A tradition that is over 90 years old is Campaniling. Where on the night before Homecoming the students gather in front of the Campanile, the large clocktower in the middle of campus, and as the clock rings midnight, the guy kisses the girl. This tradition is to prevent a brick from falling on your head before you graduate from UNI.

    Bang for the buck

As previously stated, this university has a state university status with a not so state university price.

    What to do for fun

There are many different things to do both on and off campus. On and around campus there is the hill which is right next to campus has a lot of places to explore on a Friday or Saturday night. As well, off campus in downtown Cedar Falls Main Street is always great to explore for many different shops suited for many different individuals.

    Food and Dining

Dorm food: those two words are an incoming freshman's nightmare. It's not as bad as you think, but sometimes it is. I actually work at one of the dining centers and let me tell you, it's...interesting some of the food that they serve. If you happen to live in Lawther, Cambpell, or the Towers you will be eating at the Rialto dining center and it is...let me say not one of the greatest ones in the world.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is pretty quaint. Either you will get a hall that is completely quiet or is the life of the party. My freshman year I was put in a hall of all upperclassmen and the overall atmosphere was pretty quiet and quite welcoming.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, you will have your tough classes to which you have to dedicate your entire semester to. But, you will also have those classes that you may not necessarily need to focus on, which gives you a larger range of what you can focus on during the course of the semester.

    Tips for prospective students

This university will challenge you, but will also welcome you. The Union is a great place to meet up with friends, has excellent dining options, and houses where most of the groups on campus meet. Definitely get involved in a group on campus, you never know how far you can market yourself when you get involved!

    In three sentences

The University of Northern Iowa is a college that has a state university feel, but less than state university cost. This college will make you feel right at home, because even though you could not know anyone when you're walking to class you may be placed in a class with some of your closest peers. This is an excellent university if you're looking for the state university status, more of a private college attendance, but not at a state university cost.
