Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for everyone, not just the sports fanatics. After attending for a year i have realized that the campus is more diverse then i could have ever guessed. You just have to find the place that you fit in.
Tips for prospective students When looking at schools you need to look at all aspects of the university, not just the one aspect that you are looking forward too. At first OU didn't seem like it was going to fit me because it seemed like all the school cared about was sports. Then I started to research the school and what the university did from time to time. OU was an amazing school they have the second largest library in the big 12, the world's best meteorology school, and the ambition to grow and become apart of the elite public schools like USC and UT. When applying for OU my best advice would be to have strong ACT scores and a good academic record.
Am learning a lot You get what you put into your classes. The harder you try the more you will get out of the classes

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone and Everyone is serious about their education and want to go to an awesome school.
Tips for prospective students **Learn your study skills now, trust me it will help. You have to study smart to make the grade. **Make a plan that will help you keep from procrastinating. **Try to move into your dorm at least two weeks or a week-and-half before school. Don't wait the day before class to move in or you wont know where to go. **A college tour is helpful **When you know what your classes are, go at least two or three days before class begins and walk around campus to find your classes, how long it will take you to get to them, and to learn the lay of the land. Trust me this helped me tremendously. Do this at least twice. . **Try to find the quickest way to get to your classes. **Make sure you know where the library is and the open/close time. I think it closes at 2 a.m. some days. **Make sure you know where the Bursar Office is. **You should acquire a bank account. **Make sure you learn how to take the bus around campus. You have to get a sticker on the back of your ID card to be able to ride for free. Make sure to get a bus schedule and find out where the bus office is. Some buses like the Lloyd Noble Shuttle are free for everyone **Make sure you know where the housing office is(Walker Tower, 1st Floor) and where the bathrooms and laundry rooms are located in the dorms. **Explore all the dorms. There is a kitchen somewhere in Couch. I think 2nd or 3rd floor. **Walker-Adams Mall is between the space between the Walker and Adams dorms. **Make sure you learn your streets and how to get to Walmart. **Make sure you know where all the major offices are and where the restaurants around campus are. **Make sure you know about the apartment buildings policies and prices before you move in. **Also, know that move in day is crazy. Depending on when you move in, there are going to be so people on move-in day so make sure you aren't claustrophobic. **Make sure you know where the campus stores are so that you will know where to get your books. **Make sure you learn about Campus Corner. **Also, the move-in week (the week before school starts) and the first week of school there are a lot of activities and prizes and free stuff to get so make time to do those things. But also be aware of scams. **The OU Daily newspaper is free and just about everywhere, so pick one up and read it. **Make sure you know where the RA's (residential advisor) office is and where your RA's room is. **Also know where RSA (resident student association) is. You can rent out movies and games there. Also, they hold activities like having game nights and having ice cream and stuff like that. ****Just have fun and explore!!!!!!!!
Bang for the buck For me, OU is definitely worth it. Of Course, in-state tuition is lower than out-of-state tuition but its still worth it. I am so glad that I came here. I really didn't have a full plan for college. I just sort-of applied for this college and OSU and just went for OU to be going for it. Then, when I got here I was blown away. I am so glad that I chose OU simply for the fact that the people there are awesome and OU is just plain awesome.
Am enjoying being here I love being at OU and I am sure that you will too. There are activities every week at OU. They have free movies every Friday in the Meacham Auditorium in the Student Union, for ex: I saw Get Smart there and they also showed the Dark Knight. The sound for the movies will blow your mind. They also do things like have Make a Necklace or Pot A Plant almost everyday in the Union. There are always club activities going on at OU. The way that you find out about most activities is to read the sidewalks. Yeah, I said it. I don't know who does it but, someone writes the activities on the sidewalk in chalk (some people call it chalking) so as your walking you can look down and see whats happening. They also have things like Howdy Week and when your first week there they have so many activities and sometimes you get free lunch. Also, in the cafeteria (we call it the cafe) which is also Couch Restaurants they have special meals for the holidays and stuff where they make the cafe look all pretty and nice and serve some exotic foods. Once they had caviar, I personally thought it was disgusting but you just might like it. Also, I love the recycling system that OU has. Everywhere you go there are recycle bins- you absolutely cannot miss them. So if you are environmentally conscious OU will help. Also, it does help that the Campus is beautiful and has a great Library. It is simply amazing.
Am learning a lot OU professors really teach you to think for yourself, especially your English professors. OU professor also teach you different research skills. You really do have to study a lot to make the grade but it is worth it. There are so many diverse programs at OU that I am sure that you will be able to find the right program for you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students National Merit Scholars (I'm not one btw), Meteorology, anything with media, Engineering( state of the art facilities)
Tips for prospective students Keep grades high make sure your grades are high enough to start in your major's plan. (i.e. math for engineering) look it up on the website. you do not want to start behind
Bang for the buck I am out of state It is not Bad for out of state but still expensive as heck the Fin Aid office really didn't offer much
Will enjoy being here I was there one day by myself just walking around. There is so much I can do but not so much I must do other than my actual classes. It sounds strange but from a small town you are expected to be in clubs and to volunteer for EVERYTHING
Will learn a lot Just from talking to other students you can learn a lot if you put the work into it. You can't blow off things. I know in high school you could get an A in a class and still know nothing. Not OU the professors are world-class and teach because they want you to learn and understand it so that you can use it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students -Anyone into athletics -We have a great business and engineering school; so anyone interested in that -Students who would want to go to a D-1 university, but still has a small town atmosphere
Tips for prospective students I think it would be very helpful if you came on a campus tour. It will really show you everything OU has to offer and you will be able to walk around campus and see where your potential classes might be. Also, start applying for financial aid and scholarships early! If you wait until the last minuet, there won't be anything left! Good luck with your senior year of high school and BOOMER SOONER!
Bang for the buck I know out of state tuition is higher than in-state tuition, but I think every penny is worth it to go to OU. I wouldn't trade my experience here for anything. I know it's expensive, I am a full time student and working full time as well, but I wouldn't want to go any where else except here.
Am enjoying being here OU offers something for everyone; I love being here in Norman! It's not a big city, so you feel comfortable walking around campus and everything is within reasonable driving distance. The campus here at OU is beautiful; especially in the fall and spring. Whatever you are interested in you will be able to find it here. There are huge flat screen TVs in the dorms with video game systems. At the student union every weekend they offer free movie showings to students as well as give you free popcorn and drinks! Oh and how could I forget OU game days!! Saturday game days are so much fun at OU, you walk to the stadium with your friends and sit in the student section. There is nothing more exciting than cheering on the Sooners, especially against Texas (even though that's in Dallas) or OSU!
Am learning a lot At the University of Oklahoma you will learn so much in each of your classes. Your professors not only teach you valuable skills for your major, they teach you life long lessons as well. Although some class sizes may be larger than smaller universities, the professors are still there for you every step of the way. They invite you to their office hours and are very concerned with how each student is doing in their class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of Oklahoma is a great school all around. If you're sporty then you already know their sport programs and how well they do. But, did you know about their gym and how fully stocked and open it is. I called it home my freshman year to keep off the dreaded 15. They also have a great intramural program. If your the gotta get a 4.0 type then you may be wary, think that OU is a party school. But, did you know that they admit the highest amount of national-merit scholars than any other 4 yr public university and they even have a freshman dorm for national merit scholars with quite time and visitor rules so that your studies are never interrupted. Even if you want a normal dorm, the whole top floor is separate study rooms open 24 hours with strict quite rules. Last but not least, if you're the partying type there is what seems an endless supply of sororities and fraternities that will supply your partying needs. There are also a lot of clubs and bars near by. Campus Corner will supply your bars, restaurants, and shopping needs. If you are none of these in particular but rather a mix of them, then you can take advantage of it all. Overall it has everything a student may need!
Tips for prospective students GO TO THE ACTIVITIES THEY HAVE SET UP FOR YOU!!! I HIGHLY recommend the camp they put on for incoming freshman the summer before entry. I found my two best friends at the Sooner session of the camp, made a lot of other friends, learned my way around the campus, and started to feel at home, not to mention had a BLAST! Howdy Week is their form of a welcome week. The activities here are so fun, the counselors are SUPER friendly and you learn a lot about college and the campus. Also, if you are having a hard time in a class there's tutoring available for EVER SINGLE class. If you need help, just look for it, its there.
Bang for the buck 5 stars! I don't even know how to put my emotions into words with this one. Let me just tell you, I ran out of money after my freshman year and had to go to a local community college. I've been knocking out credits and work my butt off to make money to get back to Norman. I do it because I miss it. I love the school so much I'm willing to do pretty much anything I can to get back there. I'm trying to show that out of state tuition whose boss!
Did enjoy being here I greatly enjoyed being at this university! I plan on going back in the fall matter of fact! The campus is wonderful and beautiful. I felt like I was at home a week in. The people there are so happy and friendly and all the upperclassmen really do help you out and make you feel welcome. During welcome week there are a load of activities and they even have golf carts to take you to class if you get lost! Which is an awesome idea since the Oklahoma heat in September can be..overwhelming.
Did learn a lot I did learn a lot. The lecture classes are large but the harder classes like science and math have smaller groups were you get more attention and practice. The English classes are even capped to be under 20 students! It's an awesome set up they have going. It's a nice median between party school and study school. The Library is awesome, during midterms and finals the LIBRARY becomes the hang out spot.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Meteorology and Engineering majors and athletics. Especially volleyball, basketball, football, gymnastics, and dance. Just to name a few.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up there and join as many extracurricular activities as possible. Apply for scholarships, especially if you are out of state, and make sure you visit the campus if you are offered the opportunity.
Bang for the buck I am an out of state student and it is definitely not cheap. Financial aid did not offer me that much so I have to work ten times harder for scholarships and take out loans. Even though my family is paying an arm and a leg for me to attend, I feel I am getting a top notch education here and I will be very successful once I graduate and begin my career.
Am enjoying being here OU is a beautiful campus that offers tons upon tons of extracurricular activities and groups. If you get involved, you will have a great experience. Everything you need is right there on campus at your exposure so take advantage.
Am learning a lot You will learn tons if you attend every class and do everything the professors ask of you. Take accurate notes and read over them after every class before exams. This helps tremendously, especially around finals week.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students OU is very prominent for sports, especially for football so any athlete looking for a good sports program could easily find one here. Meteorology is also a great program. From what I've heard, the Architecture program is also something to look into.
Tips for prospective students Once you get accepted, take care of your enrollment commitment, housing application, housing contract once your housing application has been processed, and your shot records. The main shot that is mandatory is the meningococcal vaccine. I only learned about these things because I did research through the OU website and followed links after I had gotten accepted. Make sure you know all rules and check-in locations at move-in day. Housing and Food Services does offer a move-in service so if you want, that is an option, but it will cost you.
Bang for the buck It really depends on where you live and what your major is. OU has excellent programs for certain majors so if you do live out of state but want to be a meteorology major, OU is definitely your best bet. For meteorology majors, you have the weather lab and unique Oklahoma weather. Otherwise, I think it would be best for any other out-of-state student to just find a school closer to home or one that actually has a more prominent program for their major. If you are from in-state and want to remain in-state, I think OU is the best option for you. OU tries its best to keep tuition and housing rates low for Oklahoma students so I would advise you to take advantage of that.
Am enjoying being here I, unlike many students, do not enjoy attending the University of Oklahoma. This mainly has to deal with personal opinion and views. I am not a sports fan at all. Being here at OU makes me feel like I'm in a bigger version of high school because of the football craze. I also have lived in Oklahoma my entire life. While many people tend to be conservative in this state, I am a bit more open-minded towards ideas. Another problem is that I am a very organized and goal-oriented person, and it is very frustrating when professors do not have their lesson plans together or teach the material in a productive manner. The way I see it, if professors hold expectations for their students, the opposite should exist as well. The students look up to the professors to teach and inspire them and if that doesn't happen, then they don't feel like they're gaining as much as they should.
Am learning a lot In high school I only took AP classes and graduated with a 4.0 so I feel I haven't really learned all too much. Then again, I've only taken general education classes this semester. While I have expanded on my knowledge gained through AP classes in high school, I have seen that even if you have taken college preparatory classes, you still have to work very hard if you want to gain the most out of your education. However, most professors do encourage students to utilize their critical thinking skills and create new ways to solve problems.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students **Meteorology, Engineering (specifically petroleum), Journalism/Broadcasting majors -The National Weather Center is located on the south side of campus and provides meteorology students with the best facilities -The newest engineering building, the Engineering Practice Facility, is exclusively for students, clubs, and student organizations to work, study, and play. This multi-story building has no classes but offers computer labs, open work spaces, and tutoring specifically for engineering students. **National Merit Scholars: OU usually gives A LOT of money for National Merit Scholars **Sports/ OU football, volleyball, basketball fanatics: Go anywhere in the country and someone will know the Sooners. **Students interested in Greek life: Many students are a part of Greek life, but there are also many other student organizations, from the Baptist Student Union to the Filipino Asian Student Association to Students Against a Factory-Farming Economy, there are groups for anyone and everyone on campus.
Tips for prospective students **Go on a college visit! -Look around for optimal study spots for you. I like quiet spots, but I also prefer studying in small groups. The library, dorm towers, etc. have study rooms available for you. -If you already have a major in mind, schedule an appointment with the advisor or department head after your campus tour. They are very accommodating if you schedule ahead of time. This gives you a good idea of what you can expect within the next few years. After talking to a department head, try to speak with a student in your prospective major and get a tour of the your specific department's building. The general campus tour does not often cover this. **Research the school ahead of time! Come up with a list of questions to ask so you'll be ready when you actually go to the campus. **Eat at the Couch Restaurants (the Caf)! You can taste the delicious food you'll most likely be eating every day. (This added to my deciding factor to attend OU!) **Visit the library
Bang for the buck With all the renovations, new buildings, and agricultural maintenance around campus, you really see your money put to use. As an out-of-state student, tuition is more expensive, so I had to apply for a lot outside scholarships to lower the costs. I was still saving money because my out-of-state tuition at OU was cheaper than in-state-tuition in California. OU still makes an effort to give at least some scholarship money to its students, so this helps too. As with any college, make sure to sign up for FAFSA to get the most financial aid possible.
Am enjoying being here Living along the Golden Coast all my life and then moving to landlocked Norman, Oklahoma was definitely a culture shock, but I can't imagine being anywhere else for my college education. Everyone here is so friendly and accommodating. It feels great to be part of a legacy of caring students, renowned athletes, prestigious professors, and successful corporation heads. Whether or not you have a major, OU has over 150 academic majors to choose from, a great factor for me. I wouldn't want to be an out-of-state student stuck with a major because the school did not have enough of a selection. In terms of campus life, I did not realize how great OU was until I compared it to other schools. We have WiFi access literally everywhere on campus (dorms, cafeteria, classrooms, even outside)! The newly renovated cafeteria (Couch Restaurants) is to die for: with all-you-can-eat BBQ & burgers, stir-fry, Mexican, home-cooked, make-your-own sandwiches, Italian, Chick-Fil-A, and Greek food, all with the swipe of one meal card. Did I mention the in-house frozen yogurt and Starbucks coffee? The Gym (Huffman Center) is open until midnight weekdays and has an indoor track, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball courts available. The library is also a beautiful, quiet place located in the center of campus to study or even nap during the day! There is not much in Norman apart from the campus, and OU makes sure to keep its facilities as appealing and entertaining as possible for its students.
Am learning a lot I took 2 AP classes in high school and studied often. I took a lighter workload and after my first semester at OU, I found that classes were not as difficult as I anticipated. Since OU is a public university, the class sizes are definitely bigger, but in no way does it hinder my ability to learn. The professors are very proactive and encourage you to study in groups, attend their office hours, and find graduate student tutors, anything that helps you succeed in your classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great university for many students, especially if you like sports and socializing. Though I have no interests in the Greek life and sports, I have found a niche or two at the university. OU is great for students who aren't shy and who take a proactive approach to their education and life.
Tips for prospective students I highly recommend learning how to write a paper prior to your first English classes. I had a good experience, but I have heard some horror stories from basic English/writing classes. Also, I recommend having a major in mind prior to creating your first schedule. Some majors require gen-eds that other majors don't. Also, reading comprehension and math skills are vital to not feel overwhelmed in intro courses.
Bang for the buck The campus is gorgeous, and the buildings are nice, but I still have some reservations about the tuition. the dorms are very nice and have been modernized, but the lack of parking is a bit of downer.
Am enjoying being here At first I was incredibly apprehensive to attending OU. I was used to a high school that had a large population, but everyone was able to relate on some aspect of life. OU seemed daunting in its size. However, OU's student organizations provide ample opportunities for students to get to know each other and get involved in campus. There are clubs for anything from sports to anime to rubix cubes. It's quite impressive.
Am learning a lot I absolutely have loved each and every single professor I have studied under during the past three years here at OU. My physics professors were incredibly knowledgeable and were very willing to help me understand the trickier subjects. My Russian professor has pushed his students to understand each concept he has taught to us and my Psychology professors are incredibly motivated about their subject matter. For example, my current Developmental Pysch teacher uses her research and knowledge to be very successful at babysitting on the side. She loves her work and always comes to class incredibly exuberant about teaching.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students -Students who see college as a way of meeting new people and staying active in community activities rather than learning something inside a classroom -Students who plan on attending graduate school and need to save money in undergraduate -Sports fans -Weather buffs (seriously, Oklahoma is the best place in the country to study unusual weather) -Students who do not want to go to school in a huge, urban environment
Tips for prospective students -Become involved in a fraternity or sorority. These organizations are the best way to get involved on campus. If you are a non-Greek, you oftentimes get shut out of leadership roles. -Get to know your professors. They are thrilled to have students in their class who actually care about learning, so it is in your best interest to pay attention, complete assignments, and attend office hours. -Study abroad. OU does a wonderful job of promoting education abroad, so be sure to spend at least one summer overseas. Plus, this is a great way to get an education outside of Oklahoma. -Don't buy men's basketball tickets. Most student tickets can be found for free before the games because the team is horrible and students must ensure that their season tickets are used in order to get their $140 back. -Be sure to buy football season tickets. This is the best way to get OU-Texas tickets, which is one of the best college sporting events in the country. The Friday night parties in Dallas and the Saturday morning pre-game at the Texas State Fair must be experienced at some point in your college career. Also, the entire fall social calendar revolves around OU football, so you'll want to have tickets to all the home games.
Bang for the buck OU offers some excellent scholarships, and tuition is already low compared to other universities. If you want to work in Oklahoma or plan on attending graduate school somewhere else, OU is a wonderful choice. You can earn your undergraduate degree without breaking the bank, something that is definitely a plus in this economy.
Am enjoying being here The sporting events at OU are fun, and Norman is a great college town. There are plenty of great bars, shops, and restaurants within walking distance of campus. Oklahoma City is just a 20 minute drive away, so students can always go to Bricktown, watch a concert at the Ford Center, or attend an NBA game. OKC Thunder games are always a blast, and there's usually one or two major concerts each month in OKC. The campus is pretty split between Greek and non-Greek students. Most organizations are run by Greeks, so if you want to become involved you better join a fraternity or sorority. OU advertises over 100 student groups on campus, but most are pretty small and/or non-active.
Am learning a lot The academics here are fairly lax. Academics take a back seat to partying or social events. There are a small number of students in each class who truly want to learn, but most students seem like they could care less about their education. They are simply in college because it is expected. Unfortunately, most professors tailor their classes around the students who do not take their academics seriously. It is very easy to become apathetic about your school work due to the care-free attitudes of most of your classmates. However, the Honors classes that I have taken are pretty good. Those students love learning and truly want to attend class. The smaller class sizes in these courses also provides easier access to OU's best professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who are into sports Students who like Greek life Students who want a good, well-rounded education Students who want to be close to a city but not actually in one Pre-med students who are looking for good volunteer opportunities and a committee letter when they apply to medical school A large school with a small feel to it AWESOME interaction with professors and good opportunities for recommendation letters
Tips for prospective students The biggest secret to college is time management and hard work. In most classes you are not going to get an A by doing the minimum. Professors expect you to work for your grade. Free points for attendance and homework and bonus are rarely give in college, so take advantage of them when they are. Always attend class because you never know what you might miss that day. Even if it seems boring and a waste of time, you are still interacting with the material you need to be learning. Use pick a prof, but don't swear by it. I have taken teachers that got horrible reviews and ended up being some of my favorite professors. A lot of times the fault lies with the student for not studying enough, and they like to blame it on the teacher. On the flip side, some professors are just not good (that is a rarity at OU however).
Bang for the buck Out of state tuition is expensive! Although I get some of the cost waived through a scholarship, it still is not nearly as cheap as in state. Also DON'T BUY BOOKS FROM THE BOOKSTORE. Buying used online or renting online is definitely the way to go. Take as many community college classes or AP classes as you can. Also look for classes at OU that count for multiple requirements, so you don't have to take multiple classes.
Am enjoying being here I love the OU campus, and Norman is pretty safe. The landscaping is beautiful and there are lakes and trails nearby to run at. The only complaint I have about Oklahoma is the wind. Although a breeze feels nice in the summer, it makes the winter ten times colder (on a positive note we get a few days off for inclement weather every winter). Norman is about 20 minutes away from Oklahoma City, about 1 1/2 hr from Tulsa, and about 3 hrs from Dallas, so you can easily drive to the city if you can't find anything to do. In addition, there are a lot of volunteer opportunities in Oklahoma that you can take advantage of (pre-med students especially can go volunteer in the many free clinics in okc). OU places a lot of emphasis on greek life and sports, which I am not a big fan of, but I live off of campus, so I feel like it is easier to get away from all that.
Am learning a lot Most of my professors at OU have been very good and actually care about their students. No one will hold your hand through college, but they definitely encourage independent thinking and hard work. OU emphasizes a liberal arts education, so they require you to take classes outside of your major: 3 semesters of a foreign language, classes in art, history, English, ect. Although this requirement might seem like a pain, I have taken classes that I would have never taken otherwise and consequently have learned a lot!

Bang for the buck This school is not expensive. For in-state or out of state. I am an out of state student and I could not have imagined a more perfect school. There are plenty of scholarships available too.
Am enjoying being here Oklahoma is literally heaven on earth. I love my fellow students, sorority sisters and professors. Everyone has helped me a ton and continues to every single day.
Am learning a lot The professors on this campus have an amazing amount of knowledge that they give to their students. All you have to do is show up to class and you learn immensely. Stopping by office hours of course helps too.

Categories Comments Campus Safety ou offers safe walk and safe ride which are programs where a trusted faculty in residence life will walk you where you need to go if you feel uncomfortable or drive you back to campus from a short distance if you are unable to. there is also the ou police department, and live-in resident advisers. there are also little blue buttons on poles around campus that you can press if there is an emergency and a police officer will be there shortly. i have never felt unsafe on campus.
Greek Life greek life is apparently a big part of ou. most people (about 80% of people) are affiliated with a sorority or a fraternity. i am not, so i can't say much about it.
Clubs and Activities there's a club for almost everything. there's many, many religious clubs but also an atheist and skeptics club. there are also a variety of hobby-related clubs, like rubix cube club, anime club, and robotics club.
Bang for the buck ou is a great cost for the quality of education, especially if you are in-state. you're going to get the best price if you have a good testing scores, are eligible for financial aid, and are in-state. the worst price is for out-of-state, but i'd say that it's probably breaking even for quality of education and price. the housing and food plan is definately over-priced, though.
What to do for fun for some good, clean fun, there are plenty of free options. every weekend there are free activities on campus that include free taste-testing events, bingo, dances, and free screenings of movies. there are also plenty of clubs to join and a well-equipped gym.
Food and Dining the food is much better than on other campuses that i have visited. there is a cafeteria that is all-you-can-eat with options like chick-fil-a, asian, greek, italian, and mexican food and a desert bar. there's a burgerking, taco mayo, a breakfast place, and a sandwich place a short walk from the dorms and other options a bit farther away that include starbucks. there is also plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. the food is overall surprisingly healthy, diverse, and good quality.
Dorm Life the experience in some residence halls is very different from the experience in others. for example, the towers are set up more like hotels and are typically louder than cate center, which has older buildings. cate has smaller rooms but there is more of a sense of community there. the biggest benefit of living on campus is the convenience, and the biggest drawback is the cost.
Academic Rigor the difficulty depends on what classes you are taking and how many hours you are taking. calculus iii will be more difficult than experiencing music. it is definitely more difficult than your typical high school was, but if you are putting in the time, classes are not particularly challenging. free tutoring is also available which makes things easier. classes are also not as thorough as i hoped, but you will no doubt learn-- at the very least-- the basics of whatever class you are taking.
Tips for prospective students remember that advisers cannot tell you what to do; they only make suggestions to try to keep you on track. also remember that it is your responsibility to keep your self on track to graduate. advisers are not infallible. make sure you're taking that lab you need to graduate with that class that has a lab. also keep yourself on track by designating a study time for a couple hours. remember that relationships may come and go, but your transcript is forever!
In three sentences the university of oklahoma is what you make it. if you want to be isolated and not have fun, then that's what you'll get. if you want to be involved, there are several activities and clubs that you can join.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students OU is great for students interested in any major, from any background, and of any nationality. There are programs for everyone from every different background. Some specific strong points at OU are: law school medical school journalism athletics
Tips for prospective students Apply as early as possible! The earlier you apply, the better and smoother the college application and enrollment process will go. Take advantage of all the student services that OU offers, especially for incoming freshman. There are people to help you enroll, set your schedule, find your classes, and just about anything else you can imagine.
Bang for the buck In terms of large public state universities, OU is one of the best and offers a top-of-the-line education at prices that won't break the bank.
Am enjoying being here OU is the perfect picture of college life. From sorority and fraternity houses to clubs and campus-wide activities, OU offers the ideal college experience no matter what types of things interest you. As most people know, OU has a great football team and gameday Saturdays are some of the funnest times on campus! OU is also situated in the heart of Norman, Oklahoma. Unlike some college towns, the Norman area offers an endless list of things to do as well as easy access to the downtown area of Oklahoma City including Bricktown.
Am learning a lot At OU, there are endless opportunities to learn. From the classes you take to the student organizations you join, there is always something new to learn and experience.

Bang for the buck The cost def. seems reasonable & they have many oppurtunities for financial aid.
Am enjoying being here I haven't actually moved in & started attending classes yet (I move in August 15th) but I've been there twice. Once for Sooner Saturday, an event for prospective student & I went to enroll. I love the campus it's so beautiful. The people here are very kind & helpful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students OU is a great place for students who are either highly motivated and/or social. OU provides plenty of resources to students to help them achieve their goals.
Tips for prospective students If you are are considering going to OU, you should first come visit the campus during normal semester classes for two reasons. First is because you will get a taste of the beautiful landscaping and second is because you can get a feel of the university. Although I have a strong like towards it, I know not every student is the same as me. There are many tours for prospective students that are held throughout the year. I always see tour guides travel through the campus and I believe it is a good way to learn more of the campus' history. I feel that knowing it's history helps us appreciate it more. Also, if you are plan to come to OU you should definitely apply to the Honors College. Although there is a application form, it is well worth it and you do not necessarily have to go through with the whole program. By being a part of the Honors College you will gain access to courses not offered to the other students and get to meet many enthusiastic and very intelligent professors as well as many fellow students who are highly motivated. A final thing I recommend to prospective students is to engage in student life. One of the key elements that helps me enjoy my time here is that I am a part of the events that occurs on campus. If there is an activity you are interested in, I am sure you can find either a course or a organization which can help fulfill those interests. Make sure to socialize with others and you will find some of your best friends!
Bang for the buck OU has one of the cheapest tuitions in Oklahoma. Even for out-of-state students, the tuition is extremely affordable. There is actually a good amount of students that have floated up from Texas to attend OU because of it's low cost. However, just because OU has a low cost does not mean that it is not a good quality college. There are plenty of devoted professors teaching here, great and up-and-coming facilities, beautiful landscaping, and interesting courses offered here.
Am enjoying being here I love being at OU. Classes are wonderful and many professors have a good sense of humor. There is a good amount of diversity here if you are outside of the Pan-Hellenic Greek (which I am) and look for it. I have read many reviews before on OU complaining about how it is a Greek only campus, and I must admit that it is very greek friendly; however, I am not a part of any Greek sorority and I still feel very welcomed. Half of my friends are actually in Greek sororities, but they are also very friendly to me and do not pressure me to do anything. There are plenty of student organizations lurking around the campus as well. You just have to look. All of the organizations I have encountered thus far have been very friendly and welcoming to me. Although I am an Vietnamese American student, I have easily been welcomed in the OU Indian Society, Black Student Association, Hispanic American Student Association, and many others. The organizations do not discriminate against color. If you are interested, they will accept you. If you are not quite as interested in cultural groups, there is still a plethora or other student organizations you could choose to engage in. These include our student government (UOSA), student body events (CAC and UPB), and major-specific and/or activity-specific groups (Visual Arts Student Association, Pre-Med Club, Psychology Club, etc). Although all of these organizations help keep OU lively, if you are more drawn toward the quieter side of life I still believe you would enjoy OU. On days where the weather is nice, I enjoy taking out a book and simply sitting under one of the various large trees that are scattered throughout the wonderful landscaping of the campus. If it is not, OU has plenty of facilities on campus to which you can flock to and study either in peace by yourself or reserve a room to study with a group. I feel like there is always something to do, even when that something is simply taking a step back from life and enjoying the scenery.
Am learning a lot The amount you learn at OU, as with any other college, is largely dependent on you. From my experiences, teachers who teach within the Honors College generally sincerely and deeply care about their students, not only for their grades, but whether or not they learned the course material. This often times makes the classes more difficult. With these more difficult classes, intense study sessions are required and it may at times become stressful and you may begin to hate the classes or regret taking them. However, these are the classes in which you will learn the most and grow the most, that is if you have enough determination to persevere and finish the class. Although I said within the Honors College, for the most part, even outside of it I feel like the teachers care about their students. I just have a strong preference towards the Honors College. Although some professors may seem a bit aloof and even silly, I feel like they are doing a great job at interacting with the students and keeping the students' interests in the subject matter.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The OU campus is extremely safe. There is a well-established police and security presence as well as a sense of kinship with all students. There are also emergency phones everywhere on campus and lots of street lamps in case you're walking at night. OU also has programs to get you home safe if you are off campus as well as a program that will have an RA walk you back to your dorm if you don't want walk alone at night. It's really great.
Greek Life Greek Life is a big part of the University of Oklahoma. The chapters here are full of nice people who give back and study hard. They are always active on campus and holding events to raise money for various charities.
Clubs and Activities I can't say enough about how great the clubs and activities are. There are so many to choose from; something for everyone. We have ethnic groups, hobby/culture groups, special interest groups, health groups, activity-based groups, etc. The clubs are a great way to meet new people, make friends, and make connections that can help you in the future.
Great for these types of students Students who want to learn, have fun, and enjoy lots of personal freedom. Students who come from all backgrounds and have experienced all sorts of things. Students who want to help others while learning about themselves.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus People yell Boomer Sooner at just about any time and everyone joins in. The OU campus also has a lot of art, much of which is really odd. We have a horse statue who's eyes light up at night and a sphinx statue that is known for being really weird and interesting. We also have a tradition associated with a piece of art called the spoon holder. If you kiss someone in the spoon holder it is said that the two of you will get married.
Bang for the buck The university is a little expensive, but everything you get from OU is high-quality. The money goes to rebuilding buildings as well as the community. It also goes toward making your experience at OU fun and fulfilling.
What to do for fun The campus hosts events just about every day. There are job fairs, free movies, free food, comedy shows, theatrical productions, musical productions, dances, games, and lots of ways to get fun free stuff. Oh, and lets not forget our athletics! You can go to a game or play on a team, whether it be our big 12 teams or our intramural teams. There's also a great workout facility if that's what you like to do in your spare time. Another HUGE way to have fun is to join a group on campus. There are so many. You will definitely find one that fits your interests.
Food and Dining OU has awesome food. There are so many options and there's definitely something for everyone! Plus, the meal plan makes it easy to buy the food you want. The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly.
Dorm Life Dorm life is surprisingly good. Sure, the rooms aren't huge, but they are big enough to house two people without feeling cramped. The dorms are clean and the towers specifically are practically brand new. The resident advisers and faculty-in-residence make the dorms seem more like home by creating events and bonding with residents.
Academic Rigor The classes here are not designed to be impossible, for the most part. They are challenging and they really work to make you think. The hardest part is balancing them. They have a lot of work, even if the work isn't that difficult. So, they can be hard because you have to juggle a multitude of subjects and all of your coursework due dates.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your work, don't put things off until the day before they are due. Along with that, study every day. Look over your notes once a day or so and devote more time than you think will be necessary to studying. That way, you can go into tests confident. Also, stay organized, it's all too easy to lose assignments. Make time for fun, otherwise you'll get burnt out and stressed. Have fun with friends and get involved on campus! The events and clubs are so awesome! Lastly, drop your cool. The people here are kind and accepting. A huge part of college is forging lasting friendships with people who like you for who you really are.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma has a wealth of opportunity to offer. It is a beautiful campus and the classes are kept small to offer individual attention to students. It also offers a lot of ways to get involved and give back to the community as well as ways to further your education or make connections that can last a lifetime.

Categories Comments Campus Safety security can get to any point on campus within a minute. Awesoime!!
Greek Life Tried it a few times, not worth it. Hazing is pretty bad. Especially from the PIKE house.
Clubs and Activities The greek life is horrible on campus. but other clubs such as band are very rewarding.
Great for these types of students Music majors, Athletic programs, law and business students
Bang for the buck it's so expensive to go here.
What to do for fun Sooner football!!!!!!
Food and Dining All you can eat chic fil-e!!!!
Dorm Life Very little space for the amount of people living there.
Academic Rigor It's very tough, but not impossible!! keep your head up!
Tips for prospective students Be sure to ask for any dorm except cate!!!!
In three sentences A very beautiful campus. The free tutoring is very helpful. All the GA's seem to value you and your attempts to learn.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are these Blue emergency poles set up everywhere on campus. You can press a button on these poles and campus police will show up. Only press it in an emergency. If you do not feel safe walking at nice, you can also use the phones on these poles and someone will arrive to walk you to your destination as long as its on campus.
What to do for fun The Union programming Board sends emails every Thursday to all students. There are multiple things to do, such as free movies, video game tournaments, raves, laser tag, etc.
Food and Dining You should check out teh Couch restaurant. It is very delicious. It is an all you can eat buffet with many stations such as: hamburgers, salads, Mexican, Italian, and Chinese. Starbucks also has an appearance on campus.
Dorm Life I live off-campus, but I have friends who say the dorms are decent. I have gone into the lounges in each dorm building and they are NICE. They have pool tables, ping-pong tables, and a livingroom setting with a television set that has free cable.
Academic Rigor I find that if I show up to class prepared to work, my classes are fairly easy. However if I am unprepared, they are quite challenging.
Tips for prospective students If you go here, you need to prepare to show up every class period. though this is a college, most classes still take roll. If you don't show up your grade may get deducted, or you may even be dropped with a failing grade. Also keep up with your email. You don't want to miss out on what your professor says or on fun opportunities.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is marvelous with its many gardens. The football fans are amazingly amiable to other teams. My professors and advisers have done more than enough to make me feel welcome and comfortable here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police is ever-present.
Great for these types of students Studious, not too crazy or party hard. Norman is a small town, with not a lot to do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are too many to name, haha
Bang for the buck Best value of several universities I visited.
What to do for fun Football games are the peak of weekend activities, hands down.
Food and Dining Excellent selection, although very concentrated at only two locations.
Dorm Life Eh, it's not that bad, or that good.
Academic Rigor As for as the Petroleum Engineering department. It is very challenging, but very rewarding.
Tips for prospective students If you're an engineer, the best thing you can do is get hooked up with an upperclassman as soon as you arrive. I would have done anything for advice on what teachers to take and at what times. Also, use ratemyprofessor.com.
In three sentences Excellent in listening to student opinions. Excellent quality of most facilities, staff, professors, and overall education. Unified school spirit.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Has a security service 24/7 and you can also have a golf cart come pick you up anywhere on the campus if you feel unsafe.
Food and Dining It has the only all-you-can-eat Chick-fil-a in the world! The Caf looked really promising, great food. So many places to eat and use your meal plans!
Dorm Life The dorms were very modern and had the latest technology. I believe that they were all co-ed with doors that only students can get into.
Academic Rigor OU has the best meteorology school in the country. The petroleum engineering is top 3 in the country. The academic buildings were very nice and the campus has many libraries to study in!
In three sentences Great campus! It looked like there was so much to do there and many great people. I really liked the only all-you-can-eat Chick-fil-a in the world!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The University of Oklahoma is located in the state with the lowest cost of living, as has exceptionally low tuition and room and board rates for students.
Will enjoy being here The campus is beautiful, the faculty are beyond helpful, and even the student employees are exceptionally pleasant.
Will learn a lot As a research university, the University of Oklahoma has professors with detailed and exception depth of knowledge in his or her subject. The opportunities provided for research projects allows close mentoring between the student and the professor, which provides the best experience for those letters of recommendation and any questions the student may have.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All students. The university is very welcoming.
Tips for prospective students Talk to a Recruiter!!! The OU Recruiters love helping students, and can help with scholarships, getting on-campus jobs, classes, etc.
Bang for the buck It's fairly inexpensive compared to other places, but it can be hard to get things paid for. However, OU offers so many scholarships for students that it is possible for a large chunk of the bill to be paid off.
Am learning a lot Everyday I have opportunities to learn inside and outside of the classroom. You really have an opportunity to meet theory, practice, and experience. Teachers and staff are almost always available for extra help when you need it, and are really invested in the success of the students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want to study meteorology, any kind of engineering (especially petroleum engineering), geosciences, dance, graphic design or business, go to OU. These programs are all stellar. Most other aren't bad, either, unless you're a math student...then you're better off going somewhere else. Also, if you love FOOTBALL...oh goodness! The baseball team is pretty awesome, too.
Tips for prospective students For incoming freshmen: you will get swept into campus life, and you will love it. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to come here right out of high school. For transfer students: make sure your credits transfer...otherwise you'll be spending a little extra time and $$ on your degree. All in all, though, you probably won't regret making the move. Most of my friends are transfers, as am I, and we all love it at OU.
Bang for the buck It's pretty expensive to go here as an out-of-state student, and financial aid is hard to come by, even for Pell grant-eligible people with good grades. I have to wonder, sometimes, where all of the scholarship money (that Boren loves to boast about) is going... Also, the university requires a lot of extraneous gen-eds that eat up valuable time and tuition money. That's kind of annoying. Other than that, it's great!
Am enjoying being here Everyone is so nice! And there's always something happening on campus. CAC does a really great job of organizing events.
Am learning a lot Many of my OU professors have made an effort to present subject matter in novel ways. Most have shown strong commitment to helping students understand and retain what they are learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who is outgoing, study smart, and ready to meet hundreds of new people needs to consider OU. Also, if you want a large campus that tries to cater to every type of student and gives individual attention, check out the University of Oklahoma.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you go on a campus tour. This is what influenced my decision for the most part. People working on the campus are willing to do almost anything to make the experience the best for their students. Also, get all paperwork in very quickly and soon as possible. You do need to consider that procrastination will never work here. I have already learned that when I waited till the night before to study for a Compass test at enrollment.
Bang for the buck Although out of state tuition is rather outrageous, it is going to be worth it. I feel like getting the most out of college and going where you want is much more important than saving money. An investment in education and in a university as great as this one is worth any amount of money.
Will enjoy being here The student life is extremely abundant. I have not even lived on campus and have got to be involved. The people in charge of certain groups or organizations are great in contacting me. This is a large reason why I am attending a school so far away.
Will learn a lot This is a university that will give a world class education, no doubt. However, I have already learned that because of this, earning a good grade will require studying for the majority of your time year.

Bang for the buck Actually I'm having financial troubles but their scholarships are very motivating I know that I need every one that I can get my hands on
Will enjoy being here All of the facilities seem so nice and modern, at least the living spaces are. The libraries are so pristine from their origins and I'm planning on spending alot of time around the college campus. Just from what I have heard I'm sure that there' going to be alot to do with different groups and campus activities and going out with friends can't wait to go

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of Oklahoma is great for students who want the big college feel without being too overwhelmed, who want to get active in multiple clubs, wish to have many choices when it comes to degree choices, loves football, and who want a great education. BOOMER SOONER!
Tips for prospective students There are some important things to know about this college. One, bring a bike. Walking is great but a bike will get you to your classes much faster. Two, the cafeteria is great, but beware eating fast food every day. Try the Chef's Choice or making your own food once in a while. And don't be afraid to hit the gym. It is well equipped and offers many fun classes. Finally, beware of PROCRASTINATION! It happens to everyone but try your best to get ahead and know when things are due. A calender may be a smart thing to buy.
Bang for the buck It is much more expensive going out of state than in state, I will not delude you on that. However, the price is definitely worth what you are getting. The education is great and, on top of that, OU gives away many free t shirts, cups, food, and other Sooner memorabilia.
Am enjoying being here I truly enjoy being at the University of Oklahoma. The football games are so much fun and there are such a wide variety of classes to take. On top of that, I've made great friends through different organizations and just hanging out in my dorm. If you look for people to become friends with, you will find them.
Am learning a lot The professors at the University of Oklahoma are well educated and passionate about their subjects. I enjoy going to classes everyday and have learnt more here than I ever did in high school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a police station on campus along with many different policemen stationed around campus for the safety of the students. They also have multiple blue phones places around campus so that if you touch them an alarm will go off and your exact location will be given so that if you are in trouble the police are immediately notified and can come to your aid. They have safe walk which students can call if they are anywhere on campus alone after night and do not want to walk back to their car or dorm room alone. These people are certified to to do this and have a uniform so they can be identified easily. They also have safe ride. You can call this from anywhere in norman and a taxi will pick you up and give you a free ride back to the OU campus. OU is very concerned for the safety of its students.
What to do for fun They have many different clubs available to join. You can learn to ballroom dance with other students, or join the running club and keep up with your exercise with people that want to do the same thing. They have dances and parties for the students on campus. They have multiple concerts on campus. For example: Guns n' Roses and Lady Antebellum are both making appearances at OU.
Food and Dining There is a large variety of foods and rester aunts available on campus. They have chinese, mexican, fast food, greek food, vegetarian food, salad bars, sandwiches, sushi, etc.
Dorm Life Dorm life is extremely convenient, especially for first year students. It provides an easy opportunity to get familiar with the campus. It also provides a good way to meet new people that you may end up being extremely compatible with. Dorms accommodate many different lifestyles. They have international floors where the foreign students can stay and have a kitchen so they can cook if they want to. They have a quiet living floor for students that want Silence on their floor so that studying is easier for them or because they just simply like the quite. They have places for married couples to live and places for students with children.
Academic Rigor The basic, core beliefs that The University of Oklahoma maintains are that everyone attending deserves to be there, that new and interesting ideas are always listened to, and students of any background are free to be who they are without judgement or discrimination.
Tips for prospective students It is important to stay organized! This makes keeping up with assignments much easier and convenient. Get involved and attend school functions in order to meet, and befriend, many different people. Studying is everything. Classes are difficult, but very interesting. They require your attention and time. Do not procrastinate. Assignments pile up and very quickly especially for students that are enrolled in a large number of hours. Do not skip class. Classes are extremely beneficial AND you are paying for them. Do not waste your money. Also, classes help clarify information you may not have understood previously. It also gives you the opportunity to meet other students that may share common interests with you and help you in that class. Go to your professors office hours. They are there for your benefit. They are in there so they can answer our questions. It is a good way to get on a professors good side and show that you are doing all you can to do well in college. People say do not stress, but that is impossible. College is stressful. What you need to do is find good ways to manage stress and keep it to a minimum. You can do this by keeping a regular exercise routine, keeping organized, keeping up with current assignments, eating healthy, and maintaing good sleep habits.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a school with a wide range of opportunities for current and prospective students. It is easy to fit in and find a degree that will suit anyone. Classes are easy to find and conveniently located, faculty is helpful and friendly, and the student population is diverse and welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe!!! Alcohol policies are really strict since a football Player does from Alcohol poisoning a couple years ago.
Greek Life Lots of people are Greek and usually their grades get really low because all they are worried about is doing stuff for their Sorority or Fraternity.
Bang for the buck I am from Texas and all universities there are over 30,000 so going to OU is great because there are lots of helpful tools that you pay for in your tuition.
What to do for fun Refer to previous answers!
Food and Dining There are notamy places to eat in Norman but on campus food sucks!
Dorm Life I live in the Sooner Housing Center where all the athletes live but only 50% are athletes and the other 50% are non athletes. It is a really small quiet community which is not connected with the others in the towers unless you meet them in your classes. The Wagner Hall Cafeteria sucks, which is the only cafeteria you can get meals at for your meal plan. The good thing is you get a room to yourself and if you are a football player you pretty much get a whole apartment.
Academic Rigor You definitely have to study to get that 4.0 but it is not impossible. You probably won't get any real professors your first semester unless you are in the honors college which is hard to deal with since the teachers are usually TA's. Professors know what works and will lecture the best and give you reliable info for the tests and quizzes. The teachers right below the professors are not always prepared and don't teach you everything you need to know.
Tips for prospective students Be ready for a small town. Yes, there are party's just like any other place but there aren't many places to go around Norman. If you aren't there to party like me I'm sure you'll find something to do but it is not a great town for entertainment. Don't get me wrong, it is very safe and everyone is very friendly but if you are use to being in a big city Norman will get boring very fast.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is the fist college experience I have ever had and I will say honestly it was probably the best experience I have had in my entire life. The people are great, not just other students but also the staff, you know they are there to help you succeed. I was the first generation college student going in at 17 and it is definitely not as scary as it seems, once again everyone is there to help you during your college years and beyond.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Univeristy of Oklahom's campus is 100% safe. There is not one point on campus where you can not see the blue luminecent glow of a emeregency phone. They offer a service to drive or walk you anywhere on campus late at night as well.
Greek Life I personally am not that involved in the Greek life at OU. However, I have many friends that are involved in the Greek life that love it and would not trade it for anything in the world. The Greek houses are very appealing to look at, and let's face it, who would not want to live in a mansion?
Clubs and Activities OU has countless clubs and activities. I have personally made many friends in the tournament bass fishing club. My favorite club would be the storm chasing club. These clubs have enabled me to grow in my passions along side of other students my age who share the same interests
Great for these types of students Any student could thrive at OU. The University of Oklahoma has free tutoring for students having trouble all the way to their own Honors College. The teachers at OU are fired up for their jobs, and their passion transfers into their students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a sitting area called the Spoon Handle that has a tradion with it. Supposedly, if you kiss your boyfriend or girlfriend while in the spoon handle, the couple will get married. Also, the library is rumored to haunted, which adds character and excitement to studying all night for finals.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, OU has been a little pricey. However, with work study and other scholarships I have acquired, attending OU is not that much more expensive than attending an in state school.
What to do for fun OU is known for its football team. On Saturdays, football games are the place to be. All of the groups and organizations get together and go to the game. Football games are a great way to meet people, get rid of stress, and have a great time. After football season, the activity council does a great job at planning concert and volunteer events for all students to get involved in.
Food and Dining The food and dining at OU Is great. They offer a 24/7 resturant to feed your cravings late at night. The memorial union has plenty of popular food chains, and there are even a couple Starbucks located across campus. The only downside to OU's food and dining is the prices. Although you can use your points on campus, prices are definitely higher than they would be off campus as a sort of convenience fee.
Dorm Life Dorm life at OU is not as bad as I would have expected. During your freshman year, you are required to live in one of the freshman towers. In the towers there are plenty of quiet places to study, including study rooms on every floor. The towers also have are in a convenient location in proximity to food and other social places. After your freshman year, there are a cornucopia of apartments where you can live, as long as staying in the towers.
Academic Rigor OU is a prestigous univeristy. The classes are challenging, but if college was easy, everyone would do it. The professors are incredibly friendly and are there for you. As long as you stay focused, then you will achieve your goals in all of your courses
Tips for prospective students When you get into college, get aquatined with health center staff, they are there for you! I have a heart condition and OU's health center checks in on me and makes sure I'm doing fine periodically. Also, take advantage of any free tutoring session. You will gain valuable information in these sessions, and it is also a great way to meet people. Another opportunity to take advantage of would be work study. Being on work study enables you as a person to gain responsibility and grow as a person and a student. Lastly, get a bike! Bikes are a fast and easy way to get around campus, they will save you at least thirty precious minutes a day.
In three sentences I love The University of Oklahoma. They have the most dedicated staff I have ever encountered in my life. OU also has the best resources so that you as a student can achieve your dreams to their full potential

Food and Dining The food at OU is absolutely amazing. Some of the food in the cafeteria is better than food I've had in ordinary restaurants! There are also plenty of options so you don't have to eat the same thing every day.
Dorm Life My dorm life has been wonderful. The dorms are quiet enough to do homework in, but you can always have a good time there by going to the student lounge to hang out.
Academic Rigor The academics at OU are very challenging, but rewarding.
Tips for prospective students If you're planning to enroll at OU, get it done as quickly as you can because classes fill up very fast.

Food and Dining There is a pretty good variety of food choices on campus and lots of other options off of campus.
Dorm Life The dorm rooms are really small and compact and you can't be sure of who your hall mates will be, but if you loosen up and relax, your freshman year will be bearable. Step out of your comfort zone and you will be able to make friends with people you wouldn't have normally met.
Academic Rigor The classes at the University of Oklahoma are designed to make you think and to push you to do your best in every aspect of your life. The professors are genuine and they really want you to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Some tips for prospective students would be to be absolutely sure of what you want in a college before you decide. Take tours and talk to faculty in the field you are interested in. Everyone at the University of Oklahoma is willing to answer your questions and share their experiences.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is really wonderful. The campus is beautiful and the perfect size, it's a large campus but it feels small and intimate. The classes are extremely interesting and the professors really care about you.

Greek Life i am not in a fraternity so i couldn't say.
Clubs and Activities it is very easy to join clubs and activities. emails are sent out everyday about things happening on campus, so many in fact that it can be overwhelming at times.
Great for these types of students great for any type of student. i don't know anybody that doesn't like being here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus best mexican restaurant i have ever been to is called tara humara's. its not right on campus but its close and if you ask anybody in norman they will tell you they love it too.
Bang for the buck when you see your tuition bill it seems outrageous, but its still a good deal when you look at some surrounding schools. i do wish that the fees in the bill were explained better. i always have several academic excellence fees and i have no idea where they come from.
What to do for fun the campus has a large variety of courts to play volley ball, basketball, tennis, whatever you want. the school has great athletes and it is free to go watch everything but football and men's basketball. if you're 21 then there are many more things to do at night on campus corner.

Dorm Life all freshman are required to stay in the dorms and it was the best year of college so far. my floor was like my family. we always did activities together and are still close friends today.
Academic Rigor the classes are great when you have the right teacher, but most math courses are not taught by a native english speaker. this makes it difficult to understand and pay attention.
Tips for prospective students when dealing with money matters, have your parents call, as they hold more authority in the office.

Categories Comments Campus Safety ou has a safe walk program where you can call the number and a security officer will walk you to your car at night or anytime you feel uncomfortable. we also have a safe ride that you can call to take you home if you are intoxicated. the drivers don't take down your name or any personal information so it is very private.
Great for these types of students great for students who enjoy sports and music. we have amazing national champion sports teams and over $5 million dollars in organ systems for the musically inclined. this is not a campus for people who do not want to socialize.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus do not walk under the clock tower or it will take you 5 years to graduate. at the end of the national anthem you always say home of the... sooners!
Bang for the buck i don't like the fact that i have to pay for classes that aren't related to my major or that i pay for services that do not pertain to me. i have scholarships and live in state so my tuition isn't too terrible, but it would be nice to not have to pay for classes where i do not learn anything.
What to do for fun in norman i like to go to the football games. ou prides itself on ou football and it is the best way to spend any saturday. i like going to any sporting event, mainly because students get in free. there are lots of games and parties put on by the university that are also very enjoyable.
Food and Dining the caf has so many different options and is great for anyone. there are tons of places around norman to eat and on campus corner there are many places close enough to walk to.
Dorm Life i never lived in the dorms, because they looked small and cramped. the people i know who live in the dorms enjoy all the excitement and ease of meeting new people.
Academic Rigor since i am still an undergraduate student, i am experiencing mainly weed out classes to help students who don't know their major yet. you have to take electives and some of them are a waster of time, but still difficult. lots of studying will be required if you want to do well no matter what.
Tips for prospective students you should come very prepared for a lot more studying and responsibility than you would have in high school or a community college. being very organized and having a supportive good group of friends is a good idea, because they will keep you on track.
In three sentences the university of oklahoma is a fantastic place for freshmen since they have tons of campus activities and try to get everyone very involved. most of the professors here are extremely knowledgeable, although you do run across the professors who do not care about what they're teaching. the whole university really becomes a community with the teachers very involved, president boren spending his personal time supporting the students, and graduate students really involving undergrad students.

Dorm Life i've stayed with my friends several times in the dorms. they're nice and clean and the girls on the hall seemed very chill.

Tips for prospective students get your transcripts in early and stay on top of it to make sure they actually do send them!

What to do for fun there's no place better to be than ou for college football. there's a wide variety of intramural sports, from rugby to quidditch, the later of which ou actually hosted the world cup for in 2010. if sports aren't your thing, the union programming board offers a free movie night every friday with screenings of recent movies.

Dorm Life dorms are divided into different harry potter themed houses (slitherin, griffindor,...) and have the option to compete with each other. there are also floor-wide celebrations for different holidays.
Academic Rigor classes vary depending on your major, but one thing remains constant. you get out what you put in. some classes you might be able to get by with little effort, but it's important to remember that is rarely the case.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus campus corner is where all the cute shops and restaurants near campus are!
Bang for the buck honestly it is somewhat hard to justify the huge amounts of money i am paying to the university, but its only because i am an average out-of-state student and our tuition is much higher than the in-state students.
What to do for fun get involved! there is an organization for every one! weather it be major-based, academic-based, philanthropic, religious, intramural, or greek, you will find your family away from home!
Food and Dining the options are good and varied! i only wish there were better salad/healthy options, but overall love the food here!
Dorm Life love living in the dorms! it is an absolute must for all freshmen! especially adams, walker and couch centers. its a great environment to live in!
Academic Rigor classes are average, some are harder to adjust to than others. the science and math related classes are of course the most challenging.
Tips for prospective students if you are on an incoming freshmen, you must live on campus! it is absolutely the best way to get involved on campus.

Food and Dining there are several popular options for food on campus, and they are all really good. i have always enjoyed the food here, and even if i am interested in something not on campus, we have campus corner right next to campus that holds several more options for food and dining.
Dorm Life dorms any where are usually not the most ideal of sorts. however, ou has tried to make the best out of the dorm life and i would say they have done pretty well. the food is delicious and ranges from barbecue to vegan. the housing staff is energetic and enthusiastic. most importantly, the dorms are very well kept and create a great atmosphere if living in them.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Everything around campus is close or walking distance so travel is very minimal. The Norman police provide exceptional protection around campus 24/7 in people doing things they aren't supposed to. Traffic stops happen all the time so tickets are given regularly due to the campus's enforced rules
Greek Life Greek life is important in meeting a set group of friends but is optional for most people. It's a great opportunity to get your name out there to the sororities and finding a date in college. Date parties each sororities/ fraternities have are based on a certain themes and are held at a dance ball room so students can dance and have a good time with the other college students of their age.
Clubs and Activities CAC- Known as Campus Activities Council they support the main events around campus such as University Scandals, Mom's Day, Dance Marathon, Homecoming, ect. They are a great club to join in being involved around campus. Adopt a Prof-Program: Each participating faculty member is matched with a student group and asked to connect/participate with members of that group. The relationships and activities vary from match to match, however, most faculty are invited to a formal meal at a fraternity/sorority chapter or to join the residence hall students for a meal.
Great for these types of students Greek life, Huffman Center, Library, Inter mural sports, Bars/ resturaunts
Bang for the buck There are many good local restaurants that people go to and hangout at. My favorite would be a place located right on campus called the greek house they've been in business for 30 yrs. Its great traditional greek food that gets me everytime
What to do for fun Friends, sororities, Fancy dine ins,
Food and Dining There are plenty of restaurants or fast food places right on campus for easy walking/travel. Living in the dorm or fraternity house's your close to the cafe, cate, or crossroads dinning centers for students with meal plans. These are set meal on a card that allow students to go at any time to grab a quick meal before class.
Dorm Life Coming into Norman without knowing many people is difficult but the dorms are what help people like us unite. There are 4 different dorm towers here and are close to all the classes students must commute to allowing easy access. With the Huffman center right across the street it is easy to get your afternoon workout in as planned. We find everything so close to the dorm so navigation through campus is made simple. Inside the dorms their are either 2 to 3 person a room dorms with 2 rooms that have interconnecting bathrooms known as sweet mates.
Academic Rigor Our set of standards we behold here at the university are very time consuming and are looked at as being an important aspect of pursuing our career. We set high goals in career opportunities while keeping up with activities around campus. These standards for every student are pushed so they can maximize their potential in the near future.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in activities around campus so people recognize your mind set in making the campus better. There are other options such as greek life in meeting a new group of friends and being social in dorm life. If your more of the music type there are many organizations/clubs available for your interest also. I find it interesting to see students who come to the university without knowing anyone and within a few weeks of class opportunities were there to meet new friends. The University has a lot of school spirit in sports and the students thrive off this. I love this school and i'd recommend it to any upcoming freshman.
In three sentences Very well rounded campus. Greek life is popular and there are many opportunities to get involved in activities such as Student council, IFC( Inner Fraternity Council) , or many other organizations around campus. People are nice and its easy to say you know a majority or people around campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always campus police walking or biking around on campus. There are also call boxes all over the campus in case you feel uncomfortable and need assistance or need to report some disturbance or situation. Students can even call safewalk or saferide if they feel they would like someone to walk with them back to their dorm or somewhere at night.
Greek Life There are very many sororities and fraternities on campus, I'm not in one but it seems like almost everyone can find one that fits them!
Clubs and Activities As I have previously stated, there are many clubs and activities on campus. I attend the Baptist Student Union, which is for anyone, not just baptists. I love it and have made many wonderful friends since joining this organization. There is something for everyone at OU!
Great for these types of students OU is fit for anyone! Plenty of clubs and organizations for any type of person and the variety of classes and majors allows for diversity amongst campus. You can always make plenty of friends too!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many legends about the campus of OU. There is supposedly a ghost of a girl in the older region of the library. If you walk under the campus clock you won't graduate on time, and if you look directly up under the clock you will never graduate. There is an architectural piece called the spoonholder and if you and your boyfriend or girlfriend kiss in there you will definitely get married.
Bang for the buck While college is pretty expensive, I think OU is definitely worth it! There hasn't been one thing I have had a problem with and people are willing to help you seek scholarships and loans.
What to do for fun We have weekly movie showings for free and there are always many events going on each weekend at the student union. You always get emails on events so you will never miss out! There are tons of clubs and organizations as well.
Food and Dining There are many places on campus to eat, and they are pretty good. However, right by campus is a place called campus corner where there are many restaurants and other shops to eat and take a nice break from college. I love it!
Dorm Life I have not lived in the dorms but all of my friends love it. They say they make many friends in their dorm towers and that the cafeteria food is actually quite good!
Academic Rigor Classes and academics are taken very seriously here at OU. It is important to attend each class and seek help when you need it. Academic advisers always want you to do well in class, but also enjoy the classes you are taking!
Tips for prospective students If you need any help there are plenty of advisers in many areas who are willing and able to help you in any situation! Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it!
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma has been an amazing and life changing experience! This is my first semester and I have been loving it from the start. The atmosphere, fellow students, campus, and even the classes are all simply fantastic!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt unsafe on campus. All floors are locked, so you will need your key card to get in the floor. I've never had anything stolen from my room, and I have not had heard of any reports about stolen items from people on my floor either. The policemen are friendly, and there is a system called Safewalk that will escort you from one place to another if you don't feel safe going by yourself. They're very friendly and they're available even late at night. There's also Safedrive, so if you've been partying too hard and need a ride, they will take you to your destination for free.
Greek Life Greek life is predominant on campus. It's pretty much everywhere, and it seems that almost everyone is involved. They host many, many events and they are all very involved. If you're into such things, go ahead and join it to meet new friends and to have fun. If you're not, that's fine too because there is no real pressure to join a Greek organization.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of different clubs on campus, and just look at the signs on the sidewalks or the fliers posted around campus to see which organization is hosting what event. It seems as if there is always something to do.
Great for these types of students OU is great for everyone. For those of you who want to graduate early, OU is very good about taking AP scores and you can easily CLEP out of most lower division classes. I know of several freshmen who are already taking 4000 level classes. Not to mention, OU is very affordable so if you have trouble affording college, OU is probably a great option.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a superstition that if you walk underneath the clock tower right outside the library, you won't be able to graduate on time.
Bang for the buck OU is one of the cheapest institutions in the US, and anyone with Merit or Reagents can come for nearly nothing. Housing and food is a bit on the pricey side, but everything else in Norman is pretty cheap, especially gas.
What to do for fun There are free music venues every once in a while, and free movie showings almost every weekend. Every year, there is the Norman Music Festival and a Medieval Fair in the spring. The dorms will host a variety of events, and the Union will do too. Free ice cream nights are always fun and crowded.
Food and Dining There are a decent amount of options, and breakfast at Cate or sandwiches at Crossroads are some of my favorite things to eat. Xcetera has a variety of snack foods available, and the Caf is a favorite among everyone. Other than that, there is also Burger King, Chick-Fil-A, Quiznos, and Laughing Tomato, just to name a few more options. You can always choose to walk over to Campus Corner for even more food options. The only reason why I rate food and dining as 3 stars is because I feel as if the meal plans available are not too practical. It's a common problem where some people have too many meals every week, or too few. My friend, who too the meal plan that was slightly larger than mine, always has at least 4 extra exchanges left by the week, and I'm always lacking a few. The same thing happens with meal points. A friend of mine who has the same meal plan as me is already out of points, and when he runs out of meal exchanges a third of the week through, he has to mooch off of us until his exchanges refresh. Another thing is, the food on campus is incredibly expensive. A bag of cookies at Xcetera costs around $6 when you can easily go to Target and get the same bag for $3. Meal plans are pricey as a whole, and all my friends who live off campus will bring their own lunches. The only place I view as affordable is the Breakfast Bar at Cate.
Dorm Life The towers are great places to live, but the rooms may feel a bit cramped. One problem I notice is the humidity. No matter how low I set the air conditioning to, the room seems to feel damp all the time. It's quite pricey too, and as a result, only a handful of people choose to live in the dorms again. There are plenty of activities and free food provided by the RA's, and that's always a plus!
Academic Rigor A lot of people complain that the school is too easy, but things are different if you choose to challenge yourself. Most of the lower division classes are very easy, but things do get different once you take higher division classes. If you feel as if your higher division class isn't challenging enough, check to see if you can take the honors division for that class. The honors level is a lot more challenging, and it really teaches you more too.
Tips for prospective students Ask around. The faculty on campus is very helpful. If you're looking for an internship of some sort, don't be afraid to ask. Even if the professor you've asked doesn't have a position for you, he or she will probably help you find one. If your class has an action center available, take advantage of it and go. Also, go in for office hours. They are very helpful.
In three sentences The campus has a very friendly, home-like vibe, and you will find that the people on campus are as friendly as the place feels! There's always plenty to do on campus, and there are many quite places with few distractions that you can go to study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe on campus and there are many ways the campus ensures that. They povide transportation if youre stuck somewhere unsafe, safe walk to get you home at night, and campus police are everywhere.
Bang for the buck Every university charges way to much, so apply for a lot of scholarships.
What to do for fun There are a million things to do always around campus such as clubs, free movies, concerts. The university does a really good job putting things on for the students.
Food and Dining The food on campus is awesome.
Dorm Life Try to room with someone you know, or pray for a good one.
Academic Rigor Depends on your major of course, but for engineering thus far it has been rigrous. Not unmanageable however. Just perfect your work ethic before you get here.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ready to leave home and your family. Adjusting can be very hard for some students. I am from Alaska and have zero family members in Oklahoma, but I made it alright. Make sure you have an idea of what you want to do before you go to college or else your first two years will be a waste of time. Plan to finish your degree in five years, or take lot of AP classes.
In three sentences It was a good fit for me because it has a Naval ROTC program. With everything close by, it makes a stressful year easier not only on the mind, but physically as well. The campus is beautful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe, something that puts me at ease. every ten minutes you can see a police car drive by, and/or pass an OUPD phone that is useable in emergencies. I have never had any problems with violence or anything of that nature on campus.
Great for these types of students The school has a variety of classes available; and most classes have an online version for those who require it.
What to do for fun The campus has several different activities for active people; though most are easier for those who live on campus or have a car versus those who are in neither of the above catagories.
Food and Dining My campus has several restaurants around the northern section, as well as a very well staked campus cafeteria for the students in the dorms. I love the variety of the restaurants (though there isn't a McDonalds!)
Dorm Life I personally didn't like the fact that freshmen had to live in the dorms, not being very social. on that note the dorms weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, save how expensive the dorms and cafeteria were.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major is how stern the academic requirements are, but even then unless something truly major happens to make you fail a few courses, most students should be fine. I personally got seriously ill and had to drop two classes and failed two other courses, but my GPA was high enough that I could continue classes.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to keep track of your registration at first, my only complaint was that I was actually officially enrolled into the school a week before classes were to begin. Other than that the school has been perfect for me.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a great school; warm and inviting to new students and simple to understand. I personally did have some difficulty with registration, but after that there were no problems. After I became ill in my freshmen year all the teachers were understanding and helpful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue phones that help with security. There are also awesome cops and trainees that patrol the campus!
Greek Life there are a lot of Greeks that you can join. Not all of them are panhellinic either. There are service, step, and even multicultural fraternities.
Clubs and Activities Its full of things to get involved with!. I myself is apart of a service fraternity and I absolutely love it! There is no way you can miss an opportunity to get involved I mean its written in chalk all over campus!
Great for these types of students Any students at all. OU is very well diverse and everyone can find something or some people they feel a sense of belonging to!
Bang for the buck The college is pretty expensive, but for the teachers and the numerous activities the campus imposes, its totally worth it.
What to do for fun Hang out with friends! There is numerous free things such as museums and campus corner that you can go to! of course the free movies on campus help too!
Food and Dining I actually work at one of the dining facilities and it is awesome. Knowing that students are mostly coming from home cooked meals and some coming from little to no food, we make sure the quality of our food is as great as it can be.
Dorm Life The dorms are a great way to make friends and also get the wrap on college. It can get pretty crazy sometimes, but hey, its the memories that make life worth living.
Academic Rigor The school has numerous opportunities for students that academically strive. It is very competitive, but a push can help you more than a person thinks!
Tips for prospective students Get books early! Also get prepared for the friendships that will grow and those old ones that may dissolve. It is a big campus and can get very overwhelming so just take it one day at a time.
In three sentences OU is one of the best schools that I have the pleasure of attending. With great staff and faculty, OU is a great environment to learn from and grow in. OU is, in my perspective, one of the best schools not only in beauty but also in academics as shown by the great ratings the campus has for research.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I wouldn't be afraid to walk across campus at night.
Greek Life Greek Life is EVERYWHERE. Which is good for some people but personally I'm not a fan.
Clubs and Activities Many diverse organisations and opportunities.
Great for these types of students Students who want a small-college feel.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love the atmosphere at the football games! Campus corner is pretty neat tooo.
What to do for fun Sporting events!! They're free and lots of fun.
Food and Dining The food options are wonderful, as long as you don't eat too much... it's easy to gain weight.
Dorm Life There is a good sense of community.
Academic Rigor The beginning Economics classes are extremely difficult, but those are the only classes I have had trouble with.
Tips for prospective students If you plan to stay in the dorms, invest in a dehumidifier. Set up a meeting with a professor in your intended area of study before you decide on a major.
In three sentences For being a large state school, the atmosphere is definitely that of a smaller school. The campus is absolutely beautiful. The one negative about the University is the dominance of Greek life organisations.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Every weekend the various student organizations on campus offer a variety of activities to take part in from Thursday to Sunday. Between free movies, ice cream socials, and many other fun events, finding fun free things to do on the weekends is never an issue. During the week as well usually at least one event springs up in the Union. From candle-making to dying t-shirts, the student organizations around campus never fail to keep one busy.
Food and Dining On top of the multitude of cafes and restaurants found around campus, including everyone's favorites like Starbucks and Quizno's, the University of Oklahoma offers a unique student cafeteria called the Couch Cafeteria, fondly referred to as the Caf. Inside, there are more food options than any other world-class buffet on the planet. From Greek food to pizza to barbecue and so much more, the Caf offers enough food to appease even the pickiest of appetites, and more.
Dorm Life While the dorm life promotes timeless memories and endless friendships, the dorms themselves are rather small. When shared between two people, they seem even smaller. However, being so close to campus and having everything you need within a five minute walk makes the confined spaces totally worth it.
Academic Rigor The professors at the University of Oklahoma, regardless of the class, provide a stimulating environment for every student. Every professor I have encountered not only knows what they're teaching, but has a passion for the subject they teach. They want you to learn the material as much as they enjoy teaching it.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should prepare themselves for the rigorous academic challenges that the professors at the University of Oklahoma provide. Socially, incoming freshmen and transfer students should be aware of the high amount of Greek-life found found on campus.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma provides the opportunities and friendships of a lifetime. Between creative social events and unending resources for graduates, finding yourself bored at this University is unheard of. The University of Oklahoma is not only an excellent place to grow academically, but to create memories and learn valuable life lessons as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety OU has their own police service and maintain a very good system for emergencies. So as long as you are on campus things are generally okay.
Greek Life Greek life is a very big deal on campus. The greek houses are enormous and some say that it's as much as 1 out of every 4 students is in or was involved with a greek house.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of different clubs on campus. Pretty much any thing you can think of has become a club and there are meetings for it. So if you have any interests you can find a club for it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know about unusual traditions but OU is very much a football school. If you're planning on going there expect things to be very football crazy in the fall. On game days the campus is a ghost town because everyone is either at the game or watching the game.
What to do for fun Unfortunately there are limited things off campus for activities. But the campus itself makes up for it with things available on campus. There are a variety of things from the movie theater to sporting events to school sponsored events. In general you can always find something to do on campus.
Food and Dining The Couch Restaurants are excellent. The University of Oklahoma takes their food options very seriously and are proud of what is available. You have everything from simple cafeteria food, to 24 hour food, to fast food. Only downside is that it is a bit expensive.
Dorm Life In general dorm life is acceptable. Just make sure to live in the towers. They are much nicer to live in.
Academic Rigor For my degree the academic program is intense although there are other less challenging degrees available if that is what you are looking for.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit and talk with a professor. That will really help you to get a feel for the school and what the classes are like. Most meteorology programs are the same general coursework so find one with the best extracurriculars for you.
In three sentences Meteorology program is a great program with well thought out structure and goals for students. The program is challenging but that is to be expected with a challenging degree. The atmosphere of the school is great too with a lot of opportunities for students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Norman may look like a small town, but it is always active. The town is surrounded with many nice restaurants, bars and even a mall. The Union Programming Board on campus provides many free events weekly.
Food and Dining Large buffet styled cafeteria. Many other restaurants located around campus. Great hours to eat, most food services close at midnight, and one is open 24/7.
Dorm Life Many different styles of living. The three tower dorms Walker, Adams and Couch are suite style living. Two people per room and two rooms share one bathroom. Cate is a dorm for community living with one hall share a public bathroom. Each dorm is separated by sex and locked with an id swipe that only works for those living on that hall.
Academic Rigor Classes are large and difficult to keep focus. Many teachers lack personal care to their students. Programs are very competitive.
Tips for prospective students Be in contact with your professor the first day of classes, make sure they know your name. This will make your professor think about you personally when grading your work. Sit in the front row of class, it will help you pay attention. Get involved on campus as soon as possible. Networking on campus will open up many leadership and job opportunities.
In three sentences Quite Beautiful and friendly campus. Very active, there are always free events held on campus. Lacks special attention for students and class size is too large.

Dorm Life I lived in Couch last year and I loved my floor! My roommate and suitemates were simply amazing and I loved the atmosphere!
Academic Rigor My engineering calculus class was incredibly hard for me because my professor was difficult to understand and the exams were mostly about concepts we never reviewed in class. But other than that, I have had some awesome professors!
Tips for prospective students STUDY STUDY STUDY! I didn't study as much as I should have and I ended my first year with a 3.2 which is okay, but not what I wanted. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions! I found that most of my professors respected me more because I wasn't afraid to ask for help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I honestly feel like I can walk back from the library late at night alone and nothing is going to happen to me. There is also a safe walk option, where a security guard will come retrieve you and walk you back to the dorms if you are scared. There is also blue telephones all over campus that are for emergencies.
Greek Life Greek life is a large part of this university. Yes you can have a great time without it, but it just adds that much more to your experience.
Great for these types of students I honestly believe that anybody could love this school.
Bang for the buck You are given so much for what you pay. Yes it is a little steep for out of state students, but it's either equal price to schools at it's equivalent or a better education compared to cheaper schools.
What to do for fun I am a member of a sorority on campus, so of course I suggest Greek life. If that isn't your forte though, there are clubs and organizations to satisfy any one's needs. We even have a quidditch club like on Harry Potter!
Food and Dining I gained ten pounds my first year, if that gives you an idea of how good the dining on campus is haha.
Dorm Life The dorms made my freshman year that much better. I made so many good friends because of girls that lived on my floor. It's not the ideal living quarters, but you get used to the small space quickly and grow to love it.
Academic Rigor This school is known for their outstanding academics. It's not the typical stereotype that people give you on college either. For being such a large university, a large majority of classes are thirty students and under. Also, teachers are willing to offer their assistance.
Tips for prospective students Always have an open mind, and try everything. Also, cut yourself some slack freshman year! You need to get used to such a large environment change, and there is no reason to swamp yourself when you have four years here.
In three sentences Going to OU has been the best decision I have ever made. This school offers so much more than just academics. You won't find many public universities that have as much to offer, and there are activities to entertain anyone and everyone.

Great for these types of students This university is perfect for those students who want to pay less but still be challenged to learn and grow.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't walk under the clock tower by Bizzel Library. Rumor has it that those who do tack on another year to their degree program.
Bang for the buck A good education for a lower than average price. Of course, all of us students want prices to be cheaper, but they are pretty low here without skipping any academic rigor.
What to do for fun Campus has random things going on throughout the month. There are plenty of student groups and activities to get involved in.
Food and Dining Lots of places to eat on campus and even more to eat at off campus. Some really wonderful places to get Thai, Mexican, Vietnamese, and Indian within a mile of campus.

Greek Life The greek community at OU is very active. Whether you want to join a service-based organization, a social organization, a religious organization or an organization that is a combination of them all, we have them.
Clubs and Activities With over 300 registered student organizations, it would be very hard not to find one that interests you. But if you don't, grab 9 other people and you can start your own organization and use campus funds for your events!

Students sign up as either a human or a zombie and the best game of freeze tag in the world begins. But don't think that you're safe just because you're off campus. If a zombie sees you at Walmart? Good Luck.
Bang for the buck OU has one of the lowest tuition rates in the Big XII

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel completely secure on campus. My backpack and lap top usually sit at a table while I order food, I walk the campus at night, and I hardly locked my door in the dorms.
Bang for the buck If you live in Oklahoma it is worth it, or if you are a National Merit. I think people who pay out of state may not be getting as good an experience than if they were in a more interesting state for the price.
What to do for fun The campus puts on concerts and has a theatre that plays free movies. There is normally things on campus to do, so you do not have to drive off campus too much. Norman/OKC does not have a good club scene, but OKC has Robotic Wednesdays and Dallas is only a 2-3 hour drive.
Food and Dining While living in the dorms the Couch Restaurants is the most bang for your buck. It is the buffet of buffets, there are sections of: BBQ, Asian, Mexican, Italian, Greek, vegan, a salad bar, cereal station, etc. They have mochas and great Boston creme pie. A real tasteful selection, but it gets a little bland after an entire year. The Laughing Tomato in the Union is my second favorite place to eat. I normally order soup.
Dorm Life I lived on the International floor in Couch, and it was the best decision I made my freshman year. People who decide to be international students are naturally very outgoing and up for fun. I made great friendships, and connections all over the world. You cannot drink in the dorms, and get fined $50 if you do. You are also not supposed to have the opposite sex over after midnight, but as long as you are quiet it is fine. There are lounges and other locations to chill.
Academic Rigor Some courses seem to be designed to cut down on majors, but overall if you pass the initial course into your major, things should go well. As a business major, I have taken a couple economics courses and calculus courses which I found difficult, but math is not really my thing. The syllabi clearly state what is required of the class, so it is really up to the student.
Tips for prospective students Of course: join organizations, throw yourself out there. Try not to get discouraged and go home on the weekends.
In three sentences OU is fabulous; the campus is set up all together, so getting from one class to the next is not a hassle. Although they were strict on alcohol, the dorms were cozy and convenient, I lived in and recommend Couch Tower. On the topic of classes, I have not been disappointed by the performance of any teachers yet.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Univerity has its own police force keeping crime incidents to a minimum. There are emergency phones all over campus that are easy to see and use. Couple this with constant patrol and you get a very safe environment. I have never felt my safety threatened, even walking around at two in the morning.
Greek Life Awesome is the only word to describe it. The greek life at Oklahoma is very accepting of all people. No one will be rejected from every greek house so there is a house for every one. Greek life is very involved on campus and in the community constantly putting on philanthropies and benefits. The social aspect isn't too shabby either. Greek members are encouraged to branch out and meet members of other houses making it a tight knit community. I met my best friends through the greek system. I am a strong supporter of it.
Clubs and Activities There is a club or organization for everyone here. Each major department has its own club and there are campus organizations such as the Campus Activitities Council who puts on student involved activities. There are also organizations such as Student Congress for those who want to leave a foorprint on OU. There is a club for everybody and I suggest you join one. Its fun and looks good on a resume.
Great for these types of students If you're a big sports fan with the desire for a little academic challenge, OU is the place for you. OU is full of social butterflies and people who love to help others. All students would feel welcomed here
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus OU has any monuments and spots on campus that have a story behind them. My favorite place is the south oval in late fall and spring when the weather is a cool 70 degrees. Hundreds to thousands of students will sit on the grass to study, read, or simly just chat.
Bang for the buck I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the University of Oklahoma and am looking forward to the next two years. The education is great as well as the social aspect. The srudents are friendly and always looking to make new friends and make others feel wlecome. The sports programs are exceptionl from top to bottom, making them fun to follow. It is simply not possible to not have fun here. If you feel bored here, its on you!
What to do for fun Greek life at OU is awesome. I recommend everybody goes through rush (this does not mean you have to join a fraternity/sorority, it just gives you the option if you are unsure). Football gamedays are the best days of the year as 100,000 people strong come out to tailgate and watch the Sooners dominate. For nightlife there is Campus Corner which borders the University to the north. It is a couple blocks of shops and restaurants that turn into bars at night. There is plenty to do at OU to keep you busy and entertained. Also there is a club/organization here for everyone. You should join one or two!
Food and Dining The Caf is every freshman's first choice with over thirteen places to get food from. Pay one meal exchange and you can get Chick fil a, a burger, pizza, greek or many other options. Crossroads is open 24/7 for the night owls and has good variety in its menu with all day breakfasts and sandwhiches to full on dinners. There is also Cate center with homestyle cooked food.
Dorm Life The dorms at OU are awesome. I am a junior and I still hang out with the guys who lived on my hall every week. You will form very close friendships with them and there are many different dorm styles, each with different atmospheres. I would recommend either Couch or Walker tower
Academic Rigor Some fields of study are obviously more difficult than others, but all major departments do a great job of making sure you understnd the knowledge purveyed in class so you are ready for your career. If any class is tough or challenging, all teachers are willing to make appointments outside of class for extra help.

Bang for the buck OU Law is recognized as one of the best affordable law schools in the nation.
What to do for fun Go to Campus Corner!
Food and Dining Good food, lots of variety.
Academic Rigor Depends on the degree program. I completed my undergrad here, and am currently a grad student and law student. Basic classes are not too horribly hard, but upper division classes do require a lot of work. Law classes require you shut yourself away forever with your books.
Tips for prospective students 1: Tour a campus before you make a final decision, and weigh factors such as proximity to home before you make a final decision. 2: Park at Lloyd Noble and ride the shuttle; parking is one downside of OU. 3: Invest in season football tickets! 4: Don't forget that college is ultimately about academics; OU is not simply a party school.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma and in particular the Native American Studies department are amazing. The sense of community at this school is unparralleled. OU is a large-scale university with a small school feel.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The University of Oklahoma is consistently one of the best schools for value. We have an incredible teaching staff, plenty of research opportunity, and great facilities, all for very low tuition and fees. It is often cheaper to go out of state to OU than to go instate to another university, but that doesn't mean that OU skimps on what it can offer to prospective students. The University has the largest number of National Merit Scholars per capita, which means it must have good reason to draw the best and brightest of the United States.
What to do for fun Norman has a large reputation for festivals and music with some of the best acts originating in this region. Norman is like the Austin of Oklahoma, and outside of the music and festival scene there is still the allure of a college town.
Food and Dining The University has a state of the art cafeteria, which allows students to eat in buffet like fashion for seven dollars. That includes all the Chic-fil-A you can eat! There are also other dining options available on campus but the campus is close to the historic campus corner which contains lots of unique dining opportunities on its own for an affordable Oklahoma price.
Dorm Life University of Oklahoma has three towers filled with student dorms. The compact number of students in one area can lead to a expansive student community, which can be good or bad depending on your preference for socializing. However, they strive hard at OU to build communities within the dorms and it certainly shows. I wasn't a big fan of socializing, and life in the dorms pushed me to meet a lot of people I would have no interest in meeting.
Academic Rigor You can find it all at the University of Oklahoma. If you want to work hard there is plenty reward for doing so, but for those who want to slide through college you can find that here but in the end it won't necessarily return the value of your money or time unless you really make an effort.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma has amazing professors with specialties you would not expect to find in Oklahoma. They say that once you live in Norman you never leave, and this must be true because there are quite a few interesting people here and it makes attending the University that much more of a lifetime experience. The University of Oklahoma is the best opportunity I have had for receiving an academic education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is excellent! You are given many options to contact the OUPD and other safety hot-lines. They have safety orientations concerning partying, scenarios of what to do if a certain incident happens, and to just be smart in what you do. The dorms have drills for if a fire or tornado were to occur. Overall, the campus works to keep its students safe.
What to do for fun OU has a lot of cool things to do for fun! Every month they show movies in the Union, there are school-sponsored dance parties that are safe and convenient, and going to the games are also another great way to have fun, cheer on our teams, and show school spirit.
Food and Dining There are many different types of food to choose from. Different areas in campus provide stations of fast food places as well as a buffet style diner. There are also many options around Campus Corner and other off-campus restaurants.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty good. There are many different types of people. If you want to know if you will like living in the dorms, then it really depends on how your attitude toward others and their attitude toward you. Treat others how you want to be treated and everything should be fine!
Academic Rigor The academics here are great! I like to be challenged, and from the classes I have had, I am challenged to do my best and put creative thought into my answers and class work.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend to get a job and save money for college. College is fun, but it does cost money and no one wants to still have unpaid fees hanging around. Look for scholarships, grants, fill out FAFSA as soon as possible, and accept loans only if you absolutely have to!
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma has a great medical sciences program. The campus is diverse and it is easy to make friends here. Football games are fun to attend and all the fans are very encouraging of the players on the team.

Greek Life So many to consider, nice houses too.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everything.
Great for these types of students There are a lot of clicks on campus, so it's a matter of finding where you fit in. It helps to be out-going.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are 2 different chicken restaurants in Norman that are rivals. Everyone seems to decide which one they prefer during freshmen year. It's like a huge competition, you love one and hate the other...
Bang for the buck It's expensive but less than a private college.
What to do for fun OU has a great gym/exercise facility. Most guys spend time playing XBox in their dorm rooms or hanging out in the common areas playing pool. OU home football games are the greatest!
Food and Dining On move-in day the cafe had really great food but it has gotten worse since. It's hard to find a good source of protien without having to pay extra.
Dorm Life The suite-style dorms are better than the community style. The rooms are ok in size, bathrooms could be better, and bring an ethernet cable for faster downloads.
Academic Rigor I have never had to study for a test and had a 3.78 GPA in high school. I failed my first test ever in Chemistry and I studied hard for it.
Tips for prospective students Make sure your high school is preparing you for classes at a major university. Find out who else will be attending from your school because the first few weeks can be lonely.
In three sentences OU has the largest freshmen class in history this year, so it seems a little crowded. My average class size is 500+ students and makes it difficult to ask questions. The campus and Norman are great and the food is even ok.

Categories Comments Campus Safety OU's Campus is one of the safest campus's I have seen. The never ending patrol of campus police is note worthy. Norman is already a very safe city to live and the attention that is given to the safety of the students is commendable.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students the university of oklahoma is what you make it. if you want to be isolated and not have fun, then that's what you'll get. if you want to be involved, there are several activities and clubs that you can join.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus remember that advisers cannot tell you what to do; they only make suggestions to try to keep you on track. also remember that it is your responsibility to keep your self on track to graduate. advisers are not infallible. make sure you're taking that lab you need to graduate with that class that has a lab. also keep yourself on track by designating a study time for a couple hours. remember that relationships may come and go, but your transcript is forever!
Dorm Life remember that advisers cannot tell you what to do; they only make suggestions to try to keep you on track. also remember that it is your responsibility to keep your self on track to graduate. advisers are not infallible. make sure you're taking that lab you need to graduate with that class that has a lab. also keep yourself on track by designating a study time for a couple hours. remember that relationships may come and go, but your transcript is forever!
Academic Rigor there's a club for almost everything. there's many, many religious clubs but also an atheist and skeptics club. there are also a variety of hobby-related clubs, like rubix cube club, anime club, and robotics club.
Tips for prospective students greek life is apparently a big part of ou. most people (about 80% of people) are affiliated with a sorority or a fraternity. i am not, so i can't say much about it.
In three sentences ou offers safe walk and safe ride which are programs where a trusted faculty in residence life will walk you where you need to go if you feel uncomfortable or drive you back to campus from a short distance if you are unable to. there is also the ou police

Bang for the buck Relatively cheap for how good the school is, though there are a lot of questionable fees.

Food and Dining There are plenty of options around and vegans/vegetarians will have no problem eating most places.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice.
Tips for prospective students Check out the professors of some of your classes before taking them. Don't get too caught up in all the sports madness.

Dorm Life have no idea. i have never lived in dorms here.

Categories Comments Greek Life In my opinion there is way to much Greek life on campus but if that is your style, go for it.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds. Get involved!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Check out the Union Programming board. They throw parties, put on concerts, and a lot more!
Bang for the buck Honestly, I've had so much trouble in just about every office trying to do simple things. Many of the offices failed to inform me of important or necessary information or paperwork. And none of the offices communicate with one another. As a nontraditional student this was severely inconvenient and troublesome.
What to do for fun If you are over 21 there is plenty to do near by. If you are not 21 get involved in some of the many clubs and activities around campus.
Academic Rigor The classes were challenging. However, they were also so big that you will definitely need to make time to seek out personal attention or extra help. There are free tutoring options available if you can work them into your schedule.
Tips for prospective students Find advising options off campus in order to ensure you are not getting the typical throw away advice. Also its helpful to have a game plan so that you don't waste too much time or money. There are several options for tutoring so take advantage of that!
In three sentences This university has a lot of prestige and fosters a competitive environment. The offices see so many students that they forget how to offer real service. Academically, the education is not worth the price I pay.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Fun just depends on what you like to do. There are plenty of fun things to get into at OU and outside of campus.
Food and Dining The food at OU is not your typical cafeteria food. There are so many options from greek, chinese, bbq, and mexican to choose from. We also have a 24 hour diner-like restaurant, Crossroads, where you can get anything from burgers to breakfast.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms has been a fun experience for me and the girls on my floor are all like family. I find it very convenient that each tower has its own offerings: Couch has Couch Express, Adams has Raising Canes, and Walker has the convenience store Xcetera.
Academic Rigor The coursework is designed to challenge you to bring out your best abilities. There are some challenging courses but there are also easy courses as with any other school. What is unique about OU is that they have free tutoring in most subjects. This made me feel like I always had help with anything that I needed.
Tips for prospective students To really get a feel of being a Sooner you should attend campus and possibly shadow a student. Also go to a football game. If you decide OU is the place you want to attend, most of all ATTEND CAMP CRIMSON! It is the most amazing experience and I am very happy I decided to go.
In three sentences Amazing school with a family like atmosphere. OU has a beautiful campus and there is always someone there to help you in a time of need. I have really enjoyed my time here and it is like my second home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue emergency buttons that are everywhere on campus. You can always see another blue light from the one you are currently at. The OU police department will be there within 2 minutes after you have pressed that button, so the system is fantastic. There are also emergency phones scattered around campus, but I have never once felt threatened on campus.
Greek Life I'm not part of Greek life.
Clubs and Activities I have LOVED the clubs I've joined here. Everyone has been extremely kind and welcome you into the club immediately. I managed to find every club I had wanted to join when I came here. All club meetings and activities are written in chalk on the sidewalk, so you can always know where something is and when to go.
Great for these types of students OU is a great place for any type of student. You can always find your own niche.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The OU/Texas game is a huge deal down here. It's such a big deal that we get the Friday before the game off which is extremely nice! I also know that there's a tradition that if you walk under the clock tower, you won't graduate in 4 years.
Bang for the buck Although the out-of-state tuition is costly, it's much cheaper than the Northeast's out-of-state tuition which is partially the reason I decided to come here. You will definitely enjoy your experience here AND get a good education, so OU is worth every penny!
What to do for fun You should definitely join organizations to find fun things to do. There's always SOMETHING going on campus. I joined all the organizations that held my interests including ballroom dancing, a forecasting club, and a video game club. You can always find what you want to do, you just have to look for it!
Food and Dining The caf is absolutely AMAZING. That's really all that needs to be said.
Dorm Life I personally had a WONDERFUL dorm experience. My hall was quiet and I got along very well with my suite. I've heard not-so-great stories about other halls, but that's because of other students. My RA was fantastic and maintenance comes and fixes any problems immediately.
Academic Rigor I really can't say much considering I'm just a freshmen, but I know OU's courses will get much more challenging as I progress.
Tips for prospective students I would make sure you have a plan before coming to OU so that you can immediately jump into what you need to do. I came into OU with A LOT of credit hours because of AP testing, so taking AP courses is highly recommended! You'll be much happier that you took them and got the credit when everyone else is complaining about how awful Chemistry is.
In three sentences I've really loved my time here at OU during my first semester even though I never dreamed I would come here. The campus is gorgeous, the people are friendly, and anything you've been wanting to try once you get to college, you can find here. What I think makes the campus really great, however, is the National Weather Center because of its interconnection between students, private companies, and government agencies--the perfect atmosphere for an aspiring meteorologist!

In three sentences OU is a great university with a nice atmosphere, variety of courses, organizations, and activities. It's pretty expensive as any other university, but it would be better if our president decreased tuition rather than raise it. LIfe here is not a dream, but is like what is expected. Need to work hard to get what you need and want.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt more safe on a college campus! I don't get nervous when walking alone at night, and the University officials care about you getting back safe. There are different phone numbers you can call for people to walk you back to your dorms at night, and even a safe ride so if you or a friend are intoxicated you don't have to walk or drive.
Clubs and Activities There are different clubs for all majors. They are extremely helpful and I would highly suggest joining the club that coincides with your intended major.
Great for these types of students This is a great place to be for all different types of students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have to admit, OU Football is awesome! I highly suggest getting season tickets. You will not regret it! Football is by far the biggest sport on campus, and it will keep you interested!
Bang for the buck I pay out-of-state tuition and although it gets expensive, it is totally worth it. I love this place and the people here. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
What to do for fun There are many different things to do for fun throughout the year. The Union Programming Board plays movies for free every Friday and Saturday, they also hold dances, and other musical gatherings to make college more fun. They held Bingo night, Laser Tag, and even a Foam Party.
Food and Dining The food is GREAT! There are so many different places to eat on campus and all of them are wonderful! I can't complain about anything I've eaten.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! The dorms are very clean and well kept. There are events held throughout the year to make you feel welcomed and to get to know the people on your floor, to help make your college experience more delightful.
Academic Rigor The classes area little harder than average because the professors truly care about their students. They want you to learn and get the most of your money. They care and are willing to help you whenever you need it.
Tips for prospective students This is a great University. I highly recommend attending. People are so nice and make you feel really welcomed.
In three sentences I am so happy I chose to attend the University of Oklahoma. This is a beautiful place to be and everybody there makes you feel extremely welcome. I can honestly say that I was nervous about attending a college so far away from home, but after finishing my first semester I am 100% positive I made the right choice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always police on campus. And at night there are these blue boxes where you can call and a police officer will be there within 90 seconds. There are also a few phone numbers and services such as SafeWalk which is where a police officer will walk you, no matter how far, if you are scared. Also there is SafeRide, which is a free taxi service on the weekends if you are going out.
Greek Life Greek life is a huge part of OU, and don't let anyone tell you different. Everyday there are girls everywhere in their letters and frat guys are very obvious to pick out. You always hear of philanthropies being put on by some sorority. In my opinion, everyone should rush. It is a great experience and you can meet so many new people.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs that there is one for everyone's preference. I think overall there is over 400 student organized clubs. So there has to be one for you!
Great for these types of students Honestly, OU is great for every type of student. There is such a diversity on campus it is amazing. So many foreign exchange students, too! You just have to branch out and find the group you fit into.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the beginning of each semester, the first week is all about giving away food and free items. It is great! Also, there is Mom's Day and Dad's Day where your parents come and are celebrated.
Bang for the buck University of Oklahoma is a great school. But there are a lot of hidden fees, such as a fee for the squirrels, which can add up quickly. The academics are good and the teachers are nice, but you just have to choose a college where you know is right for you.
What to do for fun There are so many clubs it is unbelievable. There is literally something for everyone. From Campus Activity Council to the greek life to Harry Potter club. And there are clubs for one's major as well. So there is always something going on on campus. The student council of the college will host different activities throughout the month such as movie watches or even a foam party.
Food and Dining I don't like the food that much. I try to eat off campus as much as possible. However, there are many places to choose from on campus that take the prepaid meals and points system. It is very handy and a couple of them are open 24/7. There is chinese, chicken, vegetarian, greek, pizza and pasta, breakfast, coffee, steakhouse, vegetarian, just to name a few.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not as bad as most people think. You get to make good friends. The rooms are nice and if something breaks maintenance is always a call away and they fix it in a reasonable time period. The beds are pretty comfortable, too.
Academic Rigor The general classes aren't too hard but the upper division classes become harder as you continue with school. I like the atmosphere in the rooms because the teachers are always open for questions and encourage them.
Tips for prospective students First off, parking is horrible and a pain. If you have a priority parking pass you are fine, but those are expensive. Sign up for classes as soon as possible because most of the convenient times fill up the quickest. If you choose to do potluck, take the survey seriously or you will end up with someone totally unlike you. Come to college with an open mind and you will make lifetime friends and memories.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a good school and has many majors to choose from. The professors really pressure the students to show up for office hours and to be more one-on-one and have a personal connection. The councilors and teachers also bring out the best in the students and try to shape them into the best person they can become.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lots of programs set up for keeping students safe. I've never even felt uncomfortable & I walk around late at night all the time. No worries.
Greek Life Exorbitant.
Clubs and Activities There's something for everyone. I actually chose OU solely for one of the organizations they have.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't walk under the clock tower, otherwise you won't graduate in 4 years.
What to do for fun Support OU sports! It's tons of fun. There's always school sponsored events and free movie showings too.
Food and Dining Not a ton of super healthy options. The only all-you-can-eat Chic-Fil-A in the country though! Woot! Very good cafeteria.
Dorm Life LIVE IN THE DORMS! This is the best way to meet people and find an awesome community. Some RAs try harder than others, but if you can get along with your roommate, your experience WILL be amazing.
Academic Rigor Obviously some programs are better than others. I haven't been too terribly impressed with Gen Ed classes, but my major requirements have all been substantial. Don't underestimate the work, but don't be intimidated either.
Tips for prospective students Don't let the advisors lead you astray. Make sure you look into the classes you're interested in, find the professor reviews online, and take the classes you'll need for your major. Be prepared. They see too many kids each day to pay very much attention to each one.
In three sentences OU is a very welcoming university. The campus is easy to navigate and small enough to walk in 20ish minutes. The student body is tons of fun and really loyal.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police present a heavy presence, while student organizations offer services such as Safe Walk and Safe Ride, in order to provide non-judgmental alternative options for those who need help on campus.
Greek Life Greek life is huge on OU's campus. Many of the freshman are involved in a sorority or fraternity, which fosters a sense of involvement and community. Similarly, the non-greek organizations on campus tend to be close-knit groups which create lasting bonds.
Clubs and Activities It is harder to stay uninvolved on OU's campus than it is to become involved. There are over four hundred student-run organizations, and they advertise constantly. Most of these groups require minimal obligation and are low-pressure, allowing students to explore their interests.
Great for these types of students OU is big- be prepared to be constantly surrounded by people, if you choose this university. However, the advantage of large universities is diversity. OU offers a staggering amount of academic and social diversity, which really guarantees that any student who wants to find a place within OU is able to.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Located in the North Oval is the Kissing Spoon, which is an important stop in any long-term relationship on campus. Legend tells that if a couple kisses in the spoon, they will be together forever.
Bang for the buck OU is a great in-state option, with good scholarship opportunities for all four years. Like any public university, the cost can seem pricey if you don't have scholarships or loans. However, an education at OU is truly an investment in your future- OU offers so many unique learning opportunities, career development training, and has very good programs in nearly every major.
What to do for fun The Houston Huffman gym is a favorite place to spend spare time, with it's amazing indoor fitness center. The Murray Swim Complex offers indoor and outdoor swimming and diving pools, while the University offers some of the most beautiful campus landscaping in the States. The Honors college has a variety of fun and challenging activities, including Book Clubs, and campus culture activities. The regular shows put on by the OU Theatre and Performing Arts Group are fun entertainment, as well as the free movies on Friday nights, which are always popular recent releases. OU has some of the best sport teams in the nation, and fall is all about football! Almost all sporting events are free to students, as is the Natural History Museum located right off campus, and the Art Museum.
Food and Dining OU offers so many fantastic, delicious choices for dining! Couch Restaurants, the main cafeteria, is close to freshman housing, provides buffet-style all-you-can-eat food of every variety. The Memorial Student Union and Cate main are the other main hubs of dining, and have so many awesome choices! The food is absolutely fantastic!
Dorm Life The dorms are active hubs of social life, with many different options for housing communities. The RA's as very cool, with plenty of advice and experience on campus. OU has a history of creating life-long friendships by potluck pairing of room mates and suite mates.
Academic Rigor By choosing courses you are interested in, researching possible professors, and challenging yourself outside of the classroom through clubs and organizations like the Honors College, OU makes learning a life-long goal.
Tips for prospective students Definitely use the online resources available through the University, and learn about your professors and classes before the first day of school! Attendance and note-taking are general tips that help make any class easier.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a school that truly has everything. No matter how diverse your interests, you can find people that share those same interests and are looking to help you further explore them. The campus is fun and constantly full of activity.

There are people that can even walk you to your dorm or wherever you live if you do not feel safe walking alone. They also have this thing called safe ride that will give you a ride home for free if you are not in a state to drive. No questions asked.
Greek Life The greek life is great. I myself am in a sorority it is a great experience. OU has many greek organizations. It consists of 4 councils. Greek is very popular and fun at OU.
Clubs and Activities There are over 150 clubs to join. There is a club for all the majors and minors. There are the unusual clubs. Ethic clubs and religious clubs
Great for these types of students All students, it is really a great school for everyone. I didn't think I would like it there but I really do. It is a small town so if you like that sort of thing then Norman is the place for you. All majors are offered so you can do anything you would like to do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are a lot, we have a lot of fountains on campus. It is said that if you walk under the bell tower you will not graduate in four years! so don't do that!
Bang for the buck Definitely get the band for your buck. It has been such a great experience so far!
What to do for fun Lots go to concerts on campus, club events, go around norman, go shopping, go to Brick Town.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a huge police presence between Norman PD and OUPD. The campus and Norman are pretty safe overall. Sexual assault is a big deal due to the heavy prevalence of alcohol.
Greek Life Welcome to Greece. Be prepared to see lots of people sporting their letters every day. Greek organizations control much of the social life on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for lots of things, but none are well advertised or easily accessible. Most activities are off-campus or centered around sports and Greek life.
Great for these types of students Students interested in Greek life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Go on a campus tour to hear someone that gets paid $8/hour to tell you about all of the great traditions at OU.
Bang for the buck OU offers a lot of scholarship money and is one of the cheaper public colleges in the area. You can squeeze a lot out of your money, but you really have to squeeze hard to make it worthwhile.
What to do for fun Norman is really boring unless you have the money to go out. Not much happens on campus during the weekends except on gameday.
Food and Dining OU has one of the top school cafeterias in the nation. That being said, the food is still really bad. Other options on campus are limited and have horrible hours. There is good off-campus dining but make sure to bring a well-stocked bank account.
Dorm Life Dorm life can be fun. Dorm life can be awful. I lived the latter.
Academic Rigor I give it a three because you find challenges if you want, but general classes are incredibly easy.
Tips for prospective students Do not get fooled by campus visits and talks with current students.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is not a school you go to for the college experience unless to you that means easy classes, bureaucratic red tape, and drinking. You have to go out of your way to find good classes and new challenges. OU is heavy on recruitment but falls short on promises made.

Categories Comments Campus Safety From the time of your enrollment, the university tries their hardest to make you feel safe. They provide you with OU 411 cards if you ever need to know who to call concerning with your safety or need someone to talk to.
Greek Life If you are into wanting to be apart of something all the time and people who you can call brothers and sisters for life, Greek life is for you. It is a great and easy way to meet people.
Clubs and Activities If there is a club or activity the university does not offer and would like to see around campus for everyone, you are welcomed to create one.
What to do for fun Every where you turn, there are flyers or chalk on the sidewalks advertising of an event going on for all students.More specifically, there are a lot of get togethers for students between the dorms on the Adams-Walker Mall. You can ALWAYS count on free food and music being attendance at any OU function for freshmen. They want you to feel welcomed.
Food and Dining I think the motto Freshman 15 originated at OU. There is a variety of foods for meat eaters and vegetarians at Couch restaurants. And if you do not want the temptations to eat everything in sight at the cafe, there is always other options such as Cate, Crossroads, the food court in the union and dining areas in the dorm towers.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great. The study rooms on each floor is very convenient if you do not want to make the walk to the library and it also opens the opportunity to find study partners!
Academic Rigor The academic workload may seem intimidating, but the professors are always willing to help and consistently welcome the students to stop by during their office hours if they have any concerns in the class. There are also plenty of tutoring sessions and mentors to help in any class.
Tips for prospective students Take the time to set up appointments with Career Services, the Major Exploration coaches, and center for Student life. These organizations were made for you, the students, so take advantage of it while you can. There is nothing wrong with finding out too much information.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a fantastic place to experience the start of your future. The services they provide for their students to help better their chance in the work field, can not be found at just any school. The atmosphere you get from the students to professors, you know OU is the right place.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is awesome. We have a program that will walk you from any area of campus back to your dorm. It makes me feel like the university really cares about me.
What to do for fun My friends and I started longboarding at the beginning of the semester and we love it. There's weekly free movies in the union, and tons of fun clubs to join. There's pretty much always something going on.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is amazing. You swipe your card once, and you get access to 10 different restaurants with all different kinds of food. There are so many healthy and delicious options. Not to mention all the restaurants in the union, and cane's chicken.
Dorm Life I love the dorms here. Although it is a bit of a shell-shock moving from home to a room with a roommate, I wouldn't trade dorm life for anything. Living here you are completely immersed into student life, and you meet so many wonderful and lifelong friends.
Academic Rigor So far the classes are challenging and engaging. The large lecture classes are informative, but having small lecture groups make things easier to learn.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you tour the campus and find the school that feels the most like you. I picked OU because I loved the sense of community on campus, but if you want a smaller school, makes sure to consider all of your options.
In three sentences The students and atmosphere are wonderful. So far my professors have been great, but coming from a small school, the large lecture classes can be a bit overwhelming.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Norman is a suburb of Oklahoma City; As such there is a lot that a person attending OU can do.
Food and Dining The fact that this university has an all-you-can-eat Chick-Fil-A is really all that needs to be said about the food and dining here. That is, it's great.
Dorm Life From what I saw on the tour I went on, dorm life at OU can be very peaceful.
Academic Rigor I have friends who go to this school. They tell me that the classes aren't the easiest but they are highly intensive in teaching students.
Tips for prospective students Don't slack.
In three sentences From what I've seen, having visited the campus quite a few times, it is a beautiful place. The people there were very friendly. After a few minutes of walking around on the campus it started to really feel like home to me.

Tips for prospective students Definitely visit if you are interested and if you can. Try to meet with a professor from your department of interest because that's the best way to get a feel for the focus of the program. Also, I recommend going to a football game because they are awesome!
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a great school for someone looking for a college experience centered around football and school spirit. If you are not looking for that, it can still be a good match because the academics are great and there are many programs here that are better than other state universities I looked at. It is big, but once you find your niche it doesn't feel too big.

Greek Life I cannot vouch for greek life because I am not a part of it but from what I hear and see it is very fun and there are great bonds built through these organizations.
Clubs and Activities Clubs and activities are plenty here on campus and joining them will be one of the best things you've ever done!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus BOOMER SOONER!
Bang for the buck There are some unnecessary charges but if you look around the campus and go into the classrooms you can clearly see where your money is going.
What to do for fun There are hundreds of campus activities to join in as well as sports activities and sororities/fraternities.
Food and Dining Food and dining is excellent! There are dozens of places to eat on and around campus and the food is of very high quality.
Dorm Life The dorms are not the ideal living arrangements for everyone but just remember you only have to stay a year as freshmen.
Academic Rigor The teachers and faculty challenge you as students but it is a very rewarding experience. Here learning really is fun.
Tips for prospective students I would say get involved on campus. That is a very big part of life here in Norman and it's easier to meet new people. Also stay committed to your classes and attend them everyday.
In three sentences This University is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere is very friendly and you feel right at home. The classes are challenging but interactive as teachers help you to grow as thinkers.

Tips for prospective students Your ACT/SAT score is important for scholarships- study and retake to get top scores if scholarships are important to you.
In three sentences It is a beautiful campus. The students and university seem to get a lot of support from the community. As a top rated college, it would be a honor to say you graduated from OU.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on campus.
Greek Life Greek life is huge! I do not participate in it myself, but I practically feel like the only one.
Clubs and Activities There are so many options for clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students It is great for students who enjoy greek life or who enjoy sports.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You are not suppose to walk under the clock tower or else you will not graduate in four years. If you walk under it and look up you will not graduate at all.
What to do for fun There is a lot of things to do for fun. Of course, in the fall there is football. And in the spring there is a ton of other sporting events you can attend for free. They also host many free events in the Union or in the dorm lobbies.
Food and Dining OU's caf is great! And besides the caf there are also other options. However, these many options seem to get smaller and smaller as the year goes on. The food eventually begins to get old.
Dorm Life Dorm life is much like being at a summer camp 24/7 to me. It is fun sometimes, but other times you feel like you can't find a quiet spot.
Academic Rigor Overall, my classes haven't been extremely challenging, but I am a freshman taking mainly gen. ed courses. You will probably find your math and sciences courses to be the most difficult, which is expected.
In three sentences OU has an exceptionally beautiful campus. I think it is the perfect size. Although at first it seems like you might have trouble finding your way around, you will learn very easily. They also have an app that has a map and gps locator.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on campus. There are emergency phones, SAFE Walk, and SAFE Ride.
Greek Life Huge on campus. Basically the social life of most people. If you aren't Greek, it's difficult to participate.
Great for these types of students Athletic, preppy, outgoing people. Shy people tend to get lost in the crowd, and those who are different from the majority are ignored.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The stacks in the library. They're haunted. Seriously.
Bang for the buck I think that it is too expensive for what you get. Too much money is spent on Athletics.
What to do for fun Football games. If you don't like sports, don't come here.
Food and Dining Good variety. The only downside is the lack of healthy options and nutritional information.
Dorm Life Nice dorms, and most of your friends will come from your hall.
Academic Rigor There are some difficult classes, but honestly it's pretty easy. Be sure to study, and you will be fine. I would prefer harder classes, actually.
Tips for prospective students Tour the campus. OU is beautiful, and you can really get a better sense of the atmosphere by visiting. Be sure to speak to someone in the department you are interested in. Also be sure that you can afford it, because they aren't the best at meeting demonstrated need. Be sure that you are not dazzled by the nice school and great football team and forget to pay attention to how it will prepare you for life. You are going to be spending a lot of time here.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a great university with fantastic sports teams. There is a large Greek community, which is not always a good thing. This is the place to come if you want the college experience, with a good education and fantastic social opportunities, but not if your education is your top priority.

Dorm Life The main dorms are small but new and clean. There is constant activity outside and it is only a short walk to main campus.
Academic Rigor It depends which major you decide on, but overall the academics are challenging but completely manageable. The class sizes are small and personal attention is important to them.
Tips for prospective students Take some time to explore downtown Norman, it is so cute and the food is really good.

Dorm Life There are plenty of opportunities to have a good time, and OU has some of the cleanest housing I have ever seen.
Academic Rigor It is a high level college, but depending on your major that might be beneficial, however it is still quite accessible with free tutoring for all students.
Tips for prospective students Fill out the common scholarship application!!!!

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's amazing, the safety level is great. You'll rarely hear of anyone getting injured in any way. However, surveillance may be a problem. There's only so much a school can do without invading a person's privacy, so there will be incidents of someone getting hurt and going unnoticed. The worst problem is bullying. It's painful and goes without punishment way too often. Thankfully the majority of people on campus are above that and extremely willing to help stop it.
Clubs and Activities I had no idea there were so many clubs! If you don't need to take a class on mythology or just don't want to because you'll have to test over it, there are many, many clubs on mythology, and the clubs practically divide into sub groups for different types of mythology. It's a great way to meet people and conversation comes easy because you can just talk about your favorite creature or god!
Bang for the buck The cost for the classes is expensive and some classes just aren't worth the price because it isn't a fascinating subject to most people (statistics, for example). However, the variety of classes offered by this school, like ballroom dancing, is so alluring that you won't mind spending a little extra to get your credit hours. Also, the campus life is totally worth it.
What to do for fun Everything! Hang out with friends, study, nap, eat, play games, play some sports, drive off campus for some family time, meet new people, go to school sponsored events--what isn't there to do?!
Food and Dining There are so many options! Freshman 15? More like Freshman 50! There's so much good food, you'll never want to stop eating. Thankfully the school offers healthier alternatives--the salad bar is great! And the cafeteria style of some dining areas is a good way to make friends and maybe cram for a test.
Dorm Life The dorms are tiny and some of them have a uniquely pungent odor, and the people living in the dorms can be a hassle. However, the school is good with matching roommates to your interests so it makes the dorm life much easier. Even if some students are rude, the friendly atmosphere given off by the dorms as a whole makes up for it.
Academic Rigor The academic drive is the highest I think I've ever seen. The counselors are there to help and they want you to graduate. There are clubs and study groups galore, it makes the work load seem like nothing!
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions! You'll get lost if you don't! Be sure to plan ahead, even if you're commuting--college life is fun but it'll be painful if you live day to day instead of thinking ahead. There's a book called The Naked Roommate by Harlan Cohen, it's dedicated to college freshmen and how to solve the challenges they may face in college. Read it! And the biggest tip of all, get to know your professors!
In three sentences The campus is huge, incredible, and stunning. There are so many different types of people there, the cultural diversity is astounding! The people fit the beauty of the campus, they're all so friendly and willing to help even if it means putting aside their own work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Being a small town, Norman is a very safe city. In addition, OU has its own police department that does rounds throughout the day on campus, using cars and bikes. There is also a group of trained students who you can call when you are walking across campus during late hours of the night. In addition, there are emergency phones located at different locations throughout the campus.
Greek Life If you are planning to join a sorority or a fraternity, you can not go wrong.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs that offer a wide range of activities.Ranging from cultural clubs to sports clubs, educational , diversity enrichment societies, volunteering and service clubs. The list is endless
Great for these types of students OU is great for all kinds of students. If you want to study hard, there are many facilities for that on campus and a lot of places where you can study without interruption. The OU library has some really quiet floors for that.BUT if you like to live it up, there is always some kind of party happening somewhere so you are never bored. This is made more so by the vibrant Greek life on campus. So, if you are interested in joining a sorority or a fraternity OU is also for you
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The clock tower....Never walk under the clock tower!!!!Just a warning, stories have it that those who have walked underneath it do not graduate in 4 years. So better safe than sorry
Bang for the buck For the price, OU is really worth it especially if you are planning on going into Meteorology or Petroleum. It's definitely worth every penny
What to do for fun There are so many different groups on-campus that offer a wide range of fun activities. You can join the party on the weekend or a night of laser tag if you want to.You can watch a movie at the student union or go out in Norman. And of couse, there is always football during the football season. There is always something to do
Food and Dining There are so many options on campus to choose from, and you can go somewhere and get something at most hours of the day (and even night). The meal plans can also be chosen to fit the lifestyle you live so you can never go wrong really
Dorm Life You will probably have some really loud people in the corridor but overall the rooms are great. Not huge, obviously but you can always work around that. The facilities are alright and there are many activities that OU housing has to help you get to know other people in your dorm especially during the first few weeks of the semester. Also, the RA's are great!!!
Academic Rigor Some courses are more vigorous than others but overall, you will get challenged in the field/department you get in to
Tips for prospective students Take a tour if you can, If you can't ask current students about OU there is always someone willing to help you out. And buy a bike, or bring a skateboard so that its easier for you to move around campus since its quite big.
In three sentences Very diverse in courses offered so you always have a choice. Fun, there is so much to do on-campus even though Norman is a small town. There are many resources for academic assistance, free of charge.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt very safe on campus. I have never encountered a situation in which I felt unsafe even very late at night.
Greek Life I personally am not a participant or member of a Greek organization, but it is a large part of campus life at OU.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities available for all majors at the university. Being active on campus is very accessible. There are always sidewalk chalkings on the south oval promoting club activities and events.
Great for these types of students The university is great for Oklahoma residents. Tuition is lower for in-state residents and there are a myriad of great scholarships based on academic merit.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The OU football team is one of the best collegiate teams in the nation so game days are always an event around the entire city. Also, the campus has its own art museum that has many unique pieces and hosts exhibits periodically.
Bang for the buck I would say that OU offers a pretty good bang for the buck, especially if you can take advantage of some of the scholarships.
What to do for fun Besides athletic events, there aren't many activities that set OU apart from other places in terms of what to do for fun. Usually a weekend consists of hanging out with friends and possibly going to a party. If you aren't involved in Greek life, there usually aren't a lot of parties to attend.
Food and Dining The campus offers a selection of many fast food restaurants. However, healthy food options are not as prevalent. The place that offers the most healthy and diverse array of food is the cafeteria and was one of my favorite spots as a freshman.
Dorm Life I personally did not enjoy dorm life. It can be a great way to meet people, however that was not my experience. I did not know my roommate going into the dorms and our personalities did not mesh well together. Also, sharing a bathroom with three others was not ideal.
Academic Rigor I would say academic rigor is fairly high at the university. I attended a college preparatory high school, so I felt prepared. However, many others I know had a difficult time adjusting from high school to university academics.
Tips for prospective students Know how to teach yourself information because many of the classes are very large and there is not a lot of one on one time with professors. Contact with teachers is usually limited to email and scheduled meetings during their office hours.
In three sentences Overall the university is a good school. Educators seem to be passionate about their classes. However some teaching assistants and educators for general education classes need improvement.

Categories Comments Campus Safety typical stuff goes on in the dorms on campus but beware of the door checkers and make sure that your door is locked if you are not in your room
Greek Life cannot stand frats. Big waste of time and money. Not worth the experience. Too much rhetoric. They really need to get rid of frats and sororities. too much BS
Clubs and Activities don't care. not here for that.
Bang for the buck Whatever you do don't drive. There is almost nowhere to park and lots of students get tickets on a daily basis. They have a parking enforcement staff that go around and write tickets all day long
What to do for fun there is nothing to do here
Food and Dining Expensive, no fast food
Dorm Life you can hear through the walls in these dorms. Bad news for those that study in their room.
Academic Rigor this campus is tough when it comes to grades.
Tips for prospective students Quit cheating because you will get caught. A large group got busted in one of my classes.
In three sentences I found some of the students here to be very disrespectful. Too much sticking their nose where it don't belong but I guess that it is a GEN Y thing because my sisters boys are that way.

Greek Life I am not apart of Greek Life but when I see them on campus they are usually helping the community.
Clubs and Activities Name it and we got it. If not you can make it.
Great for these types of students Fun-loving, easily adjustable, hard working, and excited.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus BOOMER! SOONER!
Bang for the buck I am out of state so it is a lot for me and I do feel like I am being cheated at times.
What to do for fun Weeknights: Club meetings and diners. Study group. Relax with friends or by yourself. Nap. Weekends: Parties with friends or at a fraternity. Friday night Magic at Wizards. Free concerts. Free movies. Relax and play FIFA. Sleep. There is a lot.
Food and Dining There is a wide arrange of foods to pick from and you'll never get tired of it.
Dorm Life I loved my dorm and my roommate. I lived in Couch my freshman year and I also went potluck on my roommate and looking back I don't think they could have matched us up better.
Academic Rigor It is fairly average. As long as you put in the necessary effort to study and pass your classes you'll go far.
Tips for prospective students Be yourself in your application essays and when you come to OU there is a place for everybody all you have to do is find it. The one down side is that we are not in a large city but soon enough it will be home to you too. I promise.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is very diverse and everyone I know there feels like it is their home. Weekends are not boring and there is always something to do. And the teachers love to help their students they love their jobs.

Academic Rigor Classes are more difficult than a community college, you really have to work for your grades.
Tips for prospective students Attend class, every time. If the professor assigns a reading, read it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe. You are notified through phone/email if there is a crime or severe weather going on. Also, anywhere on campus you can find an emergency phone (within eye site) that will bring campus police to you.
Greek Life I went through rush but did not pledge and Greek life is pretty big here, but it's not the only thing to do. Most fraternities and sorority people I have met are ok, some are extremely fake but you'll get that with any group. Some respectable groups, others not so much.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to get involved in. Most do cost something to get involved , but well worth it if you find your community.
Great for these types of students OU has clubs for anyone of all interests. You may just have to look around to find your niche.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Campus is very big and pretty. I don't know many traditions but all sport games are great.
Bang for the buck I pay out of state tuition since I am from Texas and it is very expensive (that's why I went to a community college my Freshman year). I enjoy this college and it challenges me. Of course I would like the tuition to be cheaper, but I think it is reasonable for out of state.
What to do for fun From what I hear, OU does a good job Freshman year giving opportunities of getting involved. As a sophomore living on campus, I had trouble getting involved, but I was extremely busy keeping up with school.
Food and Dining I have eaten once or twice at the cafe and I was very impressed with the variety of food they had. This dining area was very clean and not much of a wait either.
Dorm Life I am a transfer student so I never experienced the dorm life, but I have heard mixed reviews of it. Some say they enjoyed the closeness of people in their hall, but others weren't fans of the lack of cleanliness.
Academic Rigor Depending on the professor, some can be strict about attendance and grade hard. But there's others that just don't care about teaching and just want to do their research.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should figure out from older students which professor to take for each class because that has a huge deal to do with your grade.
In three sentences OU is a very professional and organized university. There are some good professors here, however most are very unorganized or don't care. Some classes students are better off enrolling in a community college.

Great for these types of students It is great for sorority and fraternity students. The college offers a wide range of them. The college is also in no shortage of the students.
Bang for the buck They do seem a little over priced for the quality of things that you get. The Teachers, food, dorms aren't all that amazing. i have had some good experiences but still it seems over priced.
What to do for fun There are lots of things to do for fun. they have a movie theater, volley ball and basket ball rigth outside the dorms, and lots of clubs. In the bottom of the dorms are like a rec room.
Food and Dining It is a lot of fast food. The cafe is pretty pricey and they don't know how to season things. In Cate they don't make very good quality things either.
Dorm Life Dorm life was good. If there was any problems the RA fixed them. We did fun things as a floor or as a building. Maintenance was really good about fixing things.
Academic Rigor All the classes have a lot of work to them. Even easy blow off classes have a lot of work. In my easier classes they like to give me long essays. The homework takes about 3-6 hours to do for 4 classes.
Tips for prospective students Take Chemistry and Math classes somewhere else. Community colleges are also good for getting basics out of the way.
In three sentences The university has a good atmosphere and good teachers. I have only had problems with my chemistry and Math classes. The way they teach these classes is not done very well.

Categories Comments What to do for fun What are you doing having fun at a college campus?
Food and Dining Fine but not a lot of options appart from fast food.
Dorm Life Usually quiet, but there are a few exceptions
Academic Rigor While the teachers don't make you learn the material they do assign enough that when you are done with the class if you passed then you probably learned the material.
Tips for prospective students Go to every class and remember to read the book and to the prescribed practice problems. They really do help.
In three sentences The teachers don't seem to be especially interested in making sure the students understand the course material. This attitude may be reflected in other schools however.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities With over 300 registered student organizations on campus, there IS a club for everyone. Being involved on campus has allowed me to connect with a wide variety of students, and it is not hard to get involved!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Spoonholder and the Clocktower both hold great OU Traditions. Come on a campus tour to hear about them!
What to do for fun Free movies at the Union every weekend; these are usually accompanied by an event put on a student organization called the Union Programming Board. There are free concerts and events happening on campus and around norman all of the time!
Food and Dining If you have never taken a trip to the Caf, you MUST go. Who could resist all you can eat CHIC-FIL-A?
Dorm Life The dorms are an absolute blast! I loved living so close to campus and being able to visit friends whenever I wanted. There are so many conveniences located in the dorms, the RAs and dorm staff are top notch.
Academic Rigor This may not be an Ivy League school, but the quality of education here is nothing less than great. In addition, the Honors College is a great way to get an education similar to the Ivy League, with smaller class sizes and more rigorous courses.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of campus to really get a feel for what it's like. Look into programs that you are interested in before you get here and ask people questions about what it is like to be a student here! They will all probably tell you the same thing, but it's always good to hear several opinions about the school beforehand.
In three sentences OU is a place that you can call home. One of its greatest aspects is its great sense of community; there is not a single day that goes by when I don't walk across campus without running into a friend. I have made the greatest memories here and the opportunities are endless at OU!

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is a really safe area naturally. The police aren't really doing anything, but they really shouldn't have to - it's Norman, Oklahoma.
Greek Life Incredible greek life. One of the strongest greek communities in the nation. Several greek houses that have been built in the last couple years exceeding 5 million dollars each.
Clubs and Activities Everything from accounting clubs to quiddich teams. There's something for everyone.

Food and Dining The cafeteria is incredible. So many great choices - something for everybody,
Dorm Life OU's dorms aren't anything special. Nothing else to really say.
Academic Rigor Coming from a tiny private high school that emphasized reading comprehension, college hasn't been extraordinarily difficult because if you're a proficient reader, you will do well.
Tips for prospective students Don't feel like you have to come into college with a concrete idea of what you want to major in. You have at least a year to decide and pick a major. Don't rush into anything.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma is a great place to learn and grow in the heartland. OU's beautiful campus is second to none when in full bloom. With a strong national reputation, it's hard to go wrong with this great university.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are numerous things to do year round at the campus from Arts festivals to live music or a night on the town at campus corner. Norman Oklahoma may be a small down but it definitely has what it takes for an amazing college experience.
Food and Dining The University is actually nationwide known for their food and housing if you are on a campus tour I highly suggest taking a visit at the Cafe where a majority of food is served.
Dorm Life Dorms were an amazing experience friends that I made in my hall still live in the same hall as me two years later except we have moved up and got our own apartments together.
Academic Rigor The academic's on this University can be quite a bit to handle stay strong and study hard and you will do great.
Tips for prospective students Go greek simple as that. This campus is run by the Greek community. Your experience without it can be amazing but can ultimately be even better with the added benefits of being extra involved.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma in short has been an amazing experience since day one. I have loved the atmosphere of the campus from first day of class throughout game days until the last final at the end of the semester. I could not have asked from a better college experience than the one I am currently going through.

Categories Comments Food and Dining OU has a variety of different dining options to satisfy any craving but not all the options are healthy. Everything is fairly priced though and you get what you pay for.
Dorm Life The RESIDENCE HALLS are a great place to live because it is the only time in your entire college career where you will be within walking distance of all your friends.
Academic Rigor The courses are difficult but it is only to help create a better and successful adult.
Tips for prospective students If you aren't going down the Greek path, find another organization to get involved in (HCSA, RSA, etc.) otherwise it will be a boring and slow year.
In three sentences It is one of the greatest universities to get involved in and continue furthering your education. You can always find something to do and the resources for academics are vast.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been incidents here and there and it is a big campus so I would still take precautions, but I take night classes and walk to my car by myself at night and have had no problems. Norman is a pretty safe city.
Greek Life There are a lot of greek students. Seems to be a big part of the college experience here. I am not a greek student so that is about all I can say on it.
Clubs and Activities SO MANY CLUBS! I cannot even begin to name them all. We have several in the art building alone. Each college has their own and you shouldn't have any trouble picking one.
Great for these types of students We really have a great variety of people on this campus and more than likely you will find a group that you fit in with.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The clock tower has an unusual myth attached to it. They say that if you cross under it while it is ringing you will take longer to graduate than you expect. Also, if you kiss someone in the spoonholder (a sculpture) you will marry them.
What to do for fun The campus does have some fun things scheduled on campus year round. There are many free concerts and they sometimes show movies before they are released in theaters. There is also Moore and OKC which is not far away and those cities have more things to do like going to Bricktown and the Moore Warren Theater which is wonderful.
Food and Dining The food on campus is okay I suppose. Meal plans are a little expensive for my taste although the food is wonderful and there is a lot to choose from. As far as other places to eat around campus there are many cute little bars and things that are reasonably priced and within walking distance.
Dorm Life I did not live in the dorms because I need my space and I also need quiet which you will not get in a dorm setting.
Academic Rigor I would say that for the most part the professors expect you to do your best. There is no tolerance for cheating of any kind... Of course it is college and if you choose not to show up to class the professors usually could care less. It is you're money you are wasting.
Tips for prospective students You will have to live in the dorms your first semester unless you live in Norman already. After that you can check into other forms of housing. There are some great apartments geared toward students that I would recommend checking into. You will save money and have some peace and quiet. Plus many of them have great things to offer like pools, tanning, and 27/7 gym access right down the road.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma gives great opportunity for academic advancement. You can push yourself as far as you want to go in most careers. There are many opportunities for internships on campus jobs as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We always have police on campus and we also have Safe Walk and Safe Drive programs that ensure students' safety!
Greek Life I don't advise joining it. Not worth it.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs exist on campus, so there is a club for everyone! We even have an anime club, a Harry Potter Club, a Hip Hop club, ect.
Great for these types of students People who like sororities; people who like diversity; meteorology majors; people who like to experience crazy weather!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cancer Corner: The corner in front of the off campus Starbucks where everyone smokes.
Bang for the buck I guess it is...I think the school charges too many fees and is too expensive.
What to do for fun Join campus clubs, go to free movies featured at the theater for free!, meet and hang out with international students, swim, dance, etc.!!
Food and Dining The Cafeteria has the best food! But there are many other food ortipns on campus at the Union (ex: Wendy's, Chick Fil A, etc.) and also off campus (ex: pita pit, Starbucks, etc.).
Dorm Life If you get lucky with a good roommate, you should be fine! Dorms are fairly close to campus.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, you have classes with varying levels of difficulty. Science, math, and engineering majors have difficult classes every semester. You can find easy gen ed classes to get the requirements for those out of the way!
Tips for prospective students Enroll in a freshman orientation class (called Gateway). If you do join a sorority, don't let it become your whole life. Participate in OU Cousins and get to know international students and their culture!
In three sentences It is a good university, but there are a lot of cliques. The university is a bit stingy with their money. The roads flood whenever there is rain, so rain boots are a necessity. For OU, GPA and SAT scores/ACT scores are everything as far as receiving scholarships goes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for National Merit Scholars - they offer a huge scholarship package with lots of benefits, including a floor in one of the residence halls dedicated entirely to National Merit Scholars! It would also be a good place for sports fans (obviously), and I believe the fine arts and performing arts people would do well here as well.
Food and Dining I ate at the Couch Restaurants (basically the main eatery) when I visited campus, and the food was fantastic.
Dorm Life I haven't spent any time in the dorms and I can't comment on them.
Academic Rigor I haven't taken any classes here as of yet, but I assume different majors and different courses will have a different level of rigor. Obviously, a state university is not going to be as academically rigorous as an Ivy League or someplace like MIT, but I don't believe it's a total slack-off school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply for scholarships before the deadline has passed! I missed out on that because I applied a few weeks too late. Also, make sure you visit the campus to help you decide if the University of Oklahoma is right for you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students OU is a great place to be no matter what type of student you are. Just by taking a quick stroll through our college campus, you'll find that OU is a diverse campus, full of students from various backgrounds and cultures. With so many campus organizations, it's easy to find and connect with people just like yourself.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the biggest and well known tradition that any student on the OU campus can tell you is regarding our massive clock tower. The myth states that if a student walks underneath the tower, he/she will graduate later than anticipated. Consequently, except for the brave and foolish few, all students steer clear out of the way of our beautiful clock tower, including myself.
What to do for fun Norman is a great place to be, student or not. Apart from the usual social gatherings, bowling alleys, movie theaters, laser tag, lakes/parks, and casinos are just to name a few of the attractions Norman has to offer. If you're going to be a student at OU, you will consistently learn of new things to do and see--while you're not studying of course.
Food and Dining Norman is the place to be when it comes to food and dining. Adjacent to the OU campus, we have an entire street allotted to different cuisines from around the world. Our student union building is also a great place to dine in. It is stacked with a variety of restaurants for the health conscious person and also restaurants for people on the other extreme. In addition to campus corner and the union, the dorms also contain many restaurants--especially for the late night snacker.
Dorm Life I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to stay in the dorms at OU. However, most of my friends have and they never fail to tell me of the stories, memories, and friends they made during that time. I definitely think it's a great place to socialize, study, and take a break from studying. I would certainly recommend it for incoming students--especially for out of state students.
Academic Rigor As a junior completing a science degree, I have been able to have a first hand experience on the academic rigor that OU has to offer. Academics is one area the University of Oklahoma takes much pride in; I have to say that OU has personally challenged me in this area. Furthermore, as my roommates are engineers, seeing the amount of time and effort they put in reflects the academic standard that OU holds. It is nothing impossible but I do believe if you stay committed, OU will prepare you for success.
Tips for prospective students One of my biggest concerns prior to entering the University of Oklahoma was the class sizes, as OU is such a populous campus. I was worried that I would not be able to receive help beyond the classroom setting. However, in order to circumvent this problem, OU implemented a program called action center. For two or more days a week, a team of well prepared teacher's assistants' aid students in learning and offer personal help. Action center is provided for almost every major course--especially for freshman level courses.
In three sentences The University of Oklahoma offers students a broad range of skills they are able to learn uniquely here. Because of the setting OU is in, the faculty, and the diverse students, anyone can find and achieve success. Considering all the factors, I would say that OU is a stand-out university.

Categories Comments Food and Dining There are good restaurants nearby on Campus Corner. Personally, Blu's restaurant is my favorite!
Dorm Life Dorm life is excellent, whether you're looking for sororities or frat houses, or just a regular dorm, you'll find what you're looking for.
Academic Rigor OU is a pretty prestigious university and the rigor of the classes is high up there.
Tips for prospective students Try to get used books from the bookstores right off campus. They are sometimes up to a hundred dollars less per book!
In three sentences Being from Moore, Oklahoma, I've gotten to explore the campus many times. I know that it's expensive, but I also know that it's worth it! Many of my friends and teachers have gone to OU and love it- also, the night-life is fun.
