Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone! All types of people come to the UO from all over the world, shy, outgoing, outdoorsy, adventurous, open-minded, curious, fun, crazy people!
Tips for prospective students Keep up your grades for sure, but mainly get involved! Get out there and volunteer, its easy, fun, and you gain some great experiences and friends. Colleges want students who will become a part of the community and be able to interact with everyone. But going to college also helps with this :)
Am learning a lot You will learn so much about yourself and other people. There is an astounding variety of people and cultures. All the professors I've had are fantastic and willing to help if you're willing to put in the effort.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Adventurous, hard working, open minded, and goal oriented students are all welcome to the university. Anyone who has a will to continue their education will fit in and grow at this university.
Tips for prospective students Do as best as you can in high school and apply early to the university. There are more and more students applying each year and that makes it a little more hard to get accepted. Having a strong high school transcript helps along with extra circular actives.
Bang for the buck Oregon utilizes their tax money and puts a large effort into education. In-State tuition is affordable for the majority of families and encourages people to get a college degree.
Am enjoying being here Eugene is a wonderful place to start your life. It is a very nice community and a great college town. The school itself is small enough to feel the individual attention yet large enough to surround you with positive enforcement.
Am learning a lot The U of O is a great college where the classes and professors create an awesome environment for learning. Teachers help students find a suitable field of study and the different ways to go about it. All the lower level classes are interchangeable with different majors so you are not wasting time or money.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Green people, but also those just looking for a pretty good party scene. Great places all around (drive an hour or so east and you reach mountains great for shredding in winter or drive an hour west and get to the beautiful beach. Also the desert is a few hours over if you'd want to go there for some reason) Great well-rounded community with very friendly people. Just make sure you can pronounce Oregon right. (Or-Eh-gen)
Tips for prospective students If you get a bike, that's good campus transportation because it is mostly flat and a lot of it you can't drive through anyway. Since it's such an environmentally conscientious school, many people bike to and from class. It's really beautiful.
Bang for the buck From what I've heard and seen, tuition isn't that bad if you live in-state and there is a lot of financial aid. Great college though.
Will enjoy being here Although I most likely won't go here because it doesn't offer much for my major, it has an awesome business school and pretty good art/agriculture program. I grew up with a duck fan and we pride ourselves with having one of the loudest, most-spirited stadiums in the country. I love my DUCKS!
Will learn a lot Professors are very highly qualified and will teach a lot. Great learning experiences everywhere.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I can't imagine anyone who would not enjoy being here. The education is terrific, the people are awesome and the school spirit is unbelievable and so exciting.
Tips for prospective students Go see the school and talk to some of the students. Be prepared for rain, but it's no big deal. Consider a bike with fenders.
Bang for the buck Absolutely worth it. I wish I lived in Oregon so I could pay in-state tuition, but with my scholarship from the school, I am not paying much more than I would for an in-state California University.
Am enjoying being here I did not know how I was going to feel about being away from southern California and the sunshine. The environment here more than makes up for it! The campus is everything I hoped for and more. I love the school spirit and there are so many activities to choose from. This turned out to be a perfect fit for me. I have met so many great people here.
Am learning a lot I went to a top-rated, public high school and thought I was going to coast in college. I am taking 2 chemistry classes, math and English and am really being challenged. I have also been able to get the help I needed from professors and affordable tutors

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I really believe that almost anyone could find a niche at the UO. Wealthy or not, ambitious or not, sporty or not. The only thing someone might not want to be is very politically conservative, but even republicans will not have much difficulty finding friends and activities at the UO.
Tips for prospective students Again: visit the department of the major you're interested in. If you just have a few in mind, visit all of them. Apply to the Honors College. Though it has a different curriculum which can sometimes be a pain, it's worth it. Also, make sure to look into clubs and other extracurricular activities at the UO. Don't just look at the academic programs! If there are any events (lectures, etc.) going on on campus when you visit, go to those too! You might get an idea of what sorts of interesting events will be taking place on campus. Stick around for more than just the tour. Visit the art museum on campus! Don't be afraid to explore the campus or ask questions to strangers. It is not the most difficult school to get into, so I really don't think tips for the application process would be very useful. It's more important to know how to evaluate a school, to see if it's right for you. Keep in mind, though, that you have the ability to make yourself happy almost anywhere.
Bang for the buck I think the UO is worth it--if you can get some scholarships. It is more expensive for me to go here because I am an out of state student, but I have been awarded the Western University Exchange Award, partially because I am from another west coast state, that enables me to pay only 150% of resident tuition. However, it is still very pricey if you are from out of state. I don't regret even for an instant that I went to school in Oregon instead of Arizona, but maybe my bank account will in a few years! I believe it is a variety of things (such as the friendly people and my outstanding department) that make the price tage relatively worth it for me.
Am enjoying being here The University of Oregon campus is beautiful, and there are a lot of great things to love about Eugene. Being from Arizona, I find the Pacific Northwest to be a very welcoming place. Besides the number of places you can visit a short drive out of town, Eugene is a nice place to live. The people are quirky, and it's easy to make friends. The only thing I don't like is the downtown, which is severely lacking. Eugene is a smaller city than I expected it to be. Also, food in the Northwest is very bland for someone from Arizona, and you won't get a lot of good Mexican food up here.
Am learning a lot If you know what you want to study, take the time to visit that specific department. This is good advice regarding any college. Do your best to learn about the research interests of faculty and graduate students in the department, but at the least, ask the undergraduate advisor what makes the department at the UO special. I was lucky that that linguistics department at the UO is a hidden gem, and I am so grateful now that I didn't get into Brown University, which was my top choice school. While the UO is a big school, if you want to take your studies seriously, you can. It is also worthwhile applying to the honors college. While the honors college may not be as tight-knit as the brochures try to tell you, the classes and the professors there are very interesting, and there are many advantages to being in the honors college--from a private, cozier library to the chance to write an honors thesis, which will look great when applying to grad schools.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE!!! This university is so diverse you will find a place you fit in. One thing that I personally think is a trend here is being willing to try and experience something new!
Tips for prospective students #1 My biggest mistake while being at the UO is not living in the dorms my freshman year. I chose to live in an apartment that had roommate matching, and was very disappointed. You make so many friendships with the people that live in the dorms and you are able to have that experience it is worth so much more than you really think! I cannot emphasize enough how important living in the dorms your freshman year is. #2 Join a club. There are so many to chose from that it almost becomes overwhelming, but find one if not two or even three! Especially if you find a club relating to your major, you will make lasting friendships and also you might meet someone that you can take classes with and study with. #3 Do not let yourself get behind. The UO is a very fast paced university even if you fall behind for a week catching up here can be nearly impossible. #4 GO TO EVERY FOOTBALL GAME!!!! Oh yeah and make sure you own a raincoat and some rain boots!!!!
Bang for the buck ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I came to the University of Oregon as a freshman and let me tell you it was one of the best decisions of my life! In high school I was never truly challenged and coming here was exactly what I needed. The courses are rough and tough and full of so many learning opportunities. I truly feel like I am getting the best education I could possibly be getting. I know that there are a lot of general education requirements and that can sometimes become overwhelming, but it is those classes that help to make sure you are majoring in what you actually do want to do for the rest of your life. Also these classes are what help to make well-rounded students and I really appreciate that the university makes us take these classes because without them I would not have chosen to take some classes that I learned so much in. I know that when I graduate from the University of Oregon I will be well equipped to enter into the job market.
Am enjoying being here At first, I really wasn't that fond of Eugene, and of the University of Oregon. Coming from a really small and conservative town, this was a whole new experience and such a huge change! The longer I stayed here the more it has grown on me, and I now love it. People from smaller towns tend to look at this town and see just how big it is, but it is actually not that bad. Hardly ever do I have to go from one end of the town to the other, I am able to stay within the community in which I live which helps to give it a smaller feel if that is what you are looking for. At the University it seems as if you will always find a group of people that you fit in. There are tons of clubs and activities with tons of great people.
Am learning a lot I am definitely learning A LOT!!! The students at this school are definitely expected to do a lot in not a lot of time! You learn a great deal and are required to learn quickly! The professors and all of the teaching assistants are very helpful, well at least the one's I've had, and are always available for extra help in their office hours if you need.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any. U of O is a diverse place with all sorts of people. It has all sorts of classes available and so many student groups, clubs, and organization to enjoy. Oh yeah, and if you like acapella. One of our acapella groups On The Rocks was recently on the NBC's the Sing Off. So if your into singing this may be the place for you~!!!
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to try new things. There are so many activities you can be involved in on campus. Do the readings, trust me when mid-terms and finals comes around you'll be happy you did. Cramming is the worst and especially in General ED classes because all the material is really basic and covers a wide range of one subject, rather than focusing on a specific part.
Bang for the buck It is a great school. If you want the University Experience then I recommend it. But I will say that General education classes are probably just as good as the ones offered in community college, for one the class sizes are smaller and you pay less per credit. So if you tight on money and aren't set on the whole University then Community college may be just as fine.
Am enjoying being here U of O is a diverse place with all sorts of people. It has all sorts of classes available and so many student groups, clubs, and organization to enjoy. There are also so many events put on, so you never get board. The events also are usually free to students or come with an extreme low cost.
Am learning a lot Yes, I'm learning tons. I'm learning how to stay organized (now that I live in a dorm with no space I have to be clean.) in my living space and with class materials. I learned all that in my first term big time. Plus, the material in class....obviously. That's all a matter of how hard you study and stay organized and on top of your work load.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of Oregon is great for everyone! But in particular, people who love the outdoors, fresh air, and smiling. Also, for people who don't necessarily need the sun to survive...it rains a lot.
Tips for prospective students Don't get too set on a major. Sure, you might think you know what you want to do in your life when you apply to colleges, but once you get there, you're going to be faced with a lot of different people pursuing different degrees and you will acquire new interests as well. For example, when I was applying to colleges, I wanted to be an architect, now I want to go into psychology or become a teacher. Just keep your minds open and be positive throughout the whole application process. Sure, its long and it can be repetitive and tedious, but keeping a positive attitude will ensure a positive attitude on your applications as well!
Bang for the buck Most definitely worth every penny. The professors are incredible and definitely make time for you, and ensure that you succeed. I have found that being in large lecture classes of over 500 students isn't really at all that different from being in a small class of 30 students. The professors take their time to try and get to know you in every class, which is a nice feeling because it makes you feel important, and motivates you to do well.
Am enjoying being here At first I was homesick, as all students will be moving away from home to an entirely different city, at a school where you know absolutely no one. However, once I got to know my roommate, make friends, and realize that the world is such a big, beautiful place, I fell in love with the idea of being on my own. Especially in a town like Eugene. The people are so nice and supportive here, and the environment is amazing. There are trees everywhere and the people are always smiling. Not to mention all the fresh air!
Am learning a lot Moving from Hawaii to Oregon was a huge culture shock for me, but definitely worth it. I had to learn how to navigate around the city, apply for classes, and do everything on my own, without my parents. Not only did I have to adjust to the heavy course load of college classes, I had to learn how to live alone for the first time in my life. I also had to learn how to live with a roommate, which is such a fun and different experience. I am also learning a lot about the city of Eugene, which is by far the most diverse and beautiful city I've ever been to!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police have a strong presence on the campus and when class gets out late they emphasize that people, particularly women, walk in pairs. They work 24/7.
Greek Life My roomie is a sorority girl and loves it.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities that most interests have been addressed.
Great for these types of students Students who want a well-rounded education and being in the center of a PAC 12 school. The campus is large and very beautiful with a great deal of history and carries with it its own momentum.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Walking across to Autzen stadium for football games in a pack. It just makes the excitement that much more fun.
Bang for the buck There is no sales tax in Oregon.
What to do for fun I spend time with my friends going out to eat or shopping. My favorite time is during football season and try to make it to each game. I live right across the parking lot from our new basketball arena and go to different events held there, as well.
Food and Dining The food in the dining hall is good but sometimes a little more variety would be nice. The bottom floor of my dorm has a store and coffee house which is nice when the weather is bad and walking across campus can be challenging.
Dorm Life My roommate and I get along so well that we have become good friends. The showers are really bad but I have a great view out my window and am always comfortable. The girls on my floor are quiet and we have not had any problems regarding noise or stealing. I like dorm life and am looking forward to getting my own apartment someday!
Academic Rigor The academic structure is rigorous and requires focus and effort. Teachers are willing to help if you approach them and are sincere in wanting to meet your responsibility for that class. No excuses; just figure out what needs to be done to finish what you started out to do.
Tips for prospective students Get your FAFSA in on time and if you are coming from a different state make sure you get it in by March 1st. My state gave me a different date and my mom is now working double time to pay for my education on her own.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is not only a beautiful campus but offers the kind of liberal arts studies that I prefer. The excitement of living on campus and attending favored sporting events has contributed to my enjoyment at this school. I look forward to finishing my education at U of O.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Oregon is the place for relaxed, chill students. This is not the campus for high maintenance and materialistic. The people of Eugene are friendly and chill and so should you be if you're going here.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to approach professors, they don't want to fail you. Don't put them on a pedestal, go to their office hours and don't leave till you get that question answered! My second piece of advice is to be spirited and take pride in being a Duck. There are so many clubs and events happening nonstop on campus, try to go to as many as possible you meet so many people that way.
Bang for the buck For me to go to school here from out of state is has become quite expensive, but it has become just as expensive to attend any school in my home state of California. Oregon's academics and free tickets to any sporting event make me glad I am spending my money here.
Am enjoying being here The vibe of Oregon is by far my favorite part. The campus is so relaxed, and green all the time. Though I will admit it rains a lot it also stays green and lush all year around. I genuinely love every second I get to be on campus and walk around with all the rest of the Ducks. You never go more than five feet without seeing some type of Duck gear. The eclectic mix of hippies and die-hard football fans makes UO different than any college I have ever been to.
Am learning a lot There is such a wide variety of studies on campus. Not only do you learn an incredible amount in a short amount of time but you actually get to pick something that interests you. Every term I take such different classes that all can count towards my general education. The teachers are so available to the students that I have a relationship with all of the my professors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Not only does the U of O have the Eugene Police department keeping everyone safe, but there is also a Department of Public Safety right on campus. There are several posts with bright blue lights all over campus. If you feel unsafe just press the button and DPS will show up and save you. There are also several services that you can call late at night for a FREE ride back to your dorm or within a 5 mile radius of campus (I think it is 5 miles but I am not positive). There are still bad things that can happen if you aren't cautious, but overall it is quite safe.
Clubs and Activities There are too many to list. Go to uoregon.edu and see for yourself!
Great for these types of students Take all of the different groups and types of people that you can think of and multiply that by 1000. Whatever type of student you are, you will be able to find others like you at U of O.
Bang for the buck College is pricey no matter where you go. The U of O offers several scholarships as well as work study and grants to help with that. You definitely get what you pay for at U of O (except for maybe in the dorms).
What to do for fun The U of O is in Eugene - Track Town USA. There are numerous outdoor events year round (including the Olympic Trials), as well as indoor fun. Bowling, swimming, movie theaters... I don't know many other places where you can go to the movie theater and see a movie for $1.50 or less if you go on certain days.
Food and Dining The University of Oregon is located near countless restaurants and dining areas. But with the variety of quality food on campus there is no need to go to near-by restaurants. If you can think of it, you can find it on (or within walking distance of) the U of O campus.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms for part of my freshman year. It was no the place for me. But... if you like the whole party scene and spending crazy amounts of money.. GO FOR IT! You never know if you will like something until you try it.
Academic Rigor People who go to college are there to learn. The U of O is as rigorous or easy as each person wants to make it. If you are going to learn, make the decision to take the difficult classes and challenge yourself.
Tips for prospective students DO NOT ALLOW SENIOR-ITUS TO RUIN ALL OF THE HARD WORK YOU HAVE PUT IN THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL! Colleges and Universities (including the University of Oregon) pay attention to your class load and grades even AFTER you get accepted. Be smart - do not take classes that would be an easy A and do not let your grades slip because you think being accepted means that the University cannot change their mind. This is important for Admission as well as scholarships.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe campus.
Greek Life It's pretty big, but you can survive as a non-Greek (if you have Greek friends that helps a lot).
Bang for the buck Oregon is a fairly expensive school, but I've had the greatest year of my life here. The classes are great, and the people are even better.
What to do for fun There's a ton to do depending on what you enjoying doing. If you like physical activity, then you can play Ultimate Frisbee or football on the lawns or turf fields, or you can play Basketball at the SRC (student rec center) or at one of the many basketball courts placed across campus, or you can skate/longboard around the beautiful parks of Eugene. Public transportation is free, and they can take you to the mall where you can watch movies for around 6 bucks (quality theater as well). Weekends are always very active party-wise.
Food and Dining There are three on-campus dining areas, and one more campus dining area located in the off-campus dorms. Of the three on-campus dining areas, one of them has multiple restaurants that you can eat at, giving more variety to you. Some people get bored of the food, but towards the end of the year I've heard my friends say on multiple occasions I'm gonna miss this dorm food next year. I'd say that the food itself is average, but the option of having different places to eat makes it not as bad when you go back to another one later.
Dorm Life Each dorm complex is different from the next. They are currently constructing another dorm complex, which looks spectacular to say the least. There are even dorm suites on the top of the building. My dorm in particular was quaint; the rooms were small, but tidy. I, like everybody else in my dorm complex, grew accustomed to the size so it wasn't really a problem after a couple days/weeks. The environment was great, though it truly depends on what kind of person you are. The real factor that defines whether your dorm experience is great or not is the people you live with. I personally developed a bond with everyone in my hall and my friend's hall in another dorm, and being with them made dorm life so much better.
Academic Rigor It's hard to rate the academic rigor under one scale due to the different classes, class levels, and teachers, however if I were to make a very general rating I would put it at a 4. If you plan on getting anything above a C+ then you must study. These ARE college level classes and you must study accordingly. Readings (for general ed/pre-req class) are not that heavy, but you can expect to read about a chapter a week depending on the course (i.e. Geography, Geology). Essays are common.
Tips for prospective students -Bring a rain jacket. It WILL rain. -Buy a printer. There are a few spots on campus where you can print things for a minimal cost; but walking there can be a hassle. -Try to buy your books off of other students. The book store sells the required texts at high prices and buys them back at a fraction of the cost. -Join the University of Oregon Class of 20__ page on Facebook. It's a great way to start meeting and interacting with your future class. -If you plan on using the DDS (Designated Driver Shuttle) service because you drank a bit too much, the key is to make a reservation earlier that day. They are ALWAYS busy if you try to schedule at night. Plan out what time and where you would like to meet with them, and they will pick you up. No questions asked. -Go to every sporting event! Football, basketball and baseball were part of what made my experience so memorable, and to top it off, it's all free.
In three sentences The University of Oregon has great academic and athletic facilities that provide students with the perfect environment for bettering themselves athletically and academically. There are numerous student athletic facilities; namely, the SRC (Student Rec Center) which holds two weight rooms, an indoor pool, an indoor track, multiple basketball courts, and numerous rooms for cardio, yoga, zumba, etc., and outside the facility there are two turf fields, outside basketball courts, and indoor and outdoor Tennis courts. There are two libraries, the Law library and the Knight library. They, along with the many study rooms and student lounges throughout the dorms, provide students with a place to focus on their academic studies.

Categories Comments Campus Safety DPS has gotten more support recently, very little to no crime on campus.
Greek Life Strong Greek life that is very active on campus.
Clubs and Activities Great variety of clubs and activities. If you can't find something you like, make your own and odds are people will join.
Great for these types of students All kinds of students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Frog sells joke books on the corner right off of campus, buy one!
Bang for the buck Private level school for public university cost.
What to do for fun Watching Duck sports, going to a well-known music venue, going on a bike ride or going hiking at Mt. Pisgah, climbing at Skinner's Butte. So many things to do for every kind of person.
Food and Dining Good variety and multiple places to eat on campus. If you get tired of dorm food, there are streets of local restaurants down the street from campus.
Dorm Life Great community feel, a lot of new money being put into building new and improved dorms.
Academic Rigor Depends on what classes you enroll in. Easy to make something of yourself if you really want to, but also easy to get lost in the crowd in a big lecture class.
Tips for prospective students Don't stress out about knowing exactly what your major is when you enter, but have a good plan of action to figure out your future. University of Oregon has great resources for perspective students to figure out what they want to become.
In three sentences Great school all around; athletics, academics, and arts. Well known and inexpensive compared to other similar caliber schools. Go Ducks!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Whatever you are interested in, you will find it at the University. We are a great green town full of life and opportunity for everyone who is willing to find it.
Tips for prospective students My biggest advice is to not give up when you first get here. Things will be so different in some good ways and maybe some not so good ways, but wait it out. You just have to give yourself time to adjust. This is a great school with a lot to offer!
Bang for the buck The University does offer some great opportunities and there are a lot of things other then academics that you can get involved in. However, in my opinion there are a few things here that are very expensive and not the best quality.
Am enjoying being here Like every freshman, my transition from High School to College was really difficult! I have roommate problems in the beginning, got lost on campus, and was generally way overwhelmed! However, the good news is that stage does no last forever. I love being here now! I love doing my own things and in my own way and on my time.
Am learning a lot What I love most about the U of O is how not only am I learning a lot in the classroom, but I am also learning a lot about going green. Also, there are so many different activities around campus and around Eugene that makes it impossible to ever get bored!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Green thinkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Tips for prospective students Biking is the way to go! There is limited parking on campus.
Bang for the buck Out of state tuition is a little high. I am a non-traditional student, so I did not receive as much financial aid as I hoped for. About 70% of my attendance fees will have to be covered by an outside source, such as a private lender or scholarships.
Will enjoy being here Eugene is a great sized town with a lot diversity. The campus is beautiful and full of bike/walking paths to explore!
Will learn a lot I am entering this school year as a senior, and the upper division classes look very interesting and challenging! As a Marine Biology major, I will have the unique opportunity to study at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology for three terms. The majority of learning is hands on at OIMB, and I am greatly looking forward to all the field work and research!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Open-minded, friendly, outgoing, energetic, spirited, and yet simultaneously-chill. Basically anyone-you willl find your niche there! Anyone with a passion for business, psychology, journalism it has the top programs for those majors. Be aware however of the strong weed smokin' culture. Most colleges have a high concentration of marijuana users but this one especially! If you aren't comfortable with that or walking down your hallway sometimes with that smell-I'd re-consider. However, there are still people that don't smoke (if you really mind that much) and people of all kinds that you can befriend. You just have to join things to find them and be placed in the right hall.
Tips for prospective students Join clubs and organizations from the very beginning. Try to find a dorm hall that fits your personality or one that's quiet enough to concentrate and study in. TRUST me- you think you want to have fun twenty four seven in college (even in your dorms) and you DO but you are going to need a break from all that noise and some quiet down time!!! I got placed in the Substance Free Hall unwillingly. However, it ended up being mostly great!Obviously people are still going to drink there and what not-but it was a safe hall where no one judged you if you did or didn't decide to get loose.
Bang for the buck For an out of state student with a small scholarship and loans-I'd say it was do-able. The rent in Oregon is way cheaper than that in CA and therefore so are the dorms. However, obviously out of state tuition was what brought me back home. I don't have the money for that. Ironic because now UC tuition is going to be exactly that price. But anyway, if i had that money, i'd certainly return!
Did enjoy being here In the beginning, I felt a little lonely and missed my support network from back home. Then, I opened up a little and was lucky enough to be placed in the dorm I was placed in! Everyone was super friendly. I ended up joining a form of government and made friends from there. The general Eugene ambience is like an open notebook waiting to be written in! Each path you choose is yours and yours only-your family and friends aren't there to share their input with you. Everyone is super friendly in Eugene and open-minded so I suggest if you are open-minded to things, then consider Eugene! There are all different types of people there and at first-like most freshmen- I feared I wouldnt' find the amazing people I met in high school, but I did! Like a vending machine, you get what you put into!
Did learn a lot The teachers are devoted to drilling the material into your brain. As long as you are willing to learn and engage in class, you will learn :)! Most of the teachers, even with the bigger classes, have office hours. USE THOSE TIMES WISELY! When your schedule doesn't conflict with your professor, I STRONGLY suggest going to their office hours if you need help with something. They are there to help you! If not there, then ask your peers and start a study group. They're fun and productive-depending on the students you choose to be in the group. There are ways for all different types of learners to learn! Especially in an open-minded place such as University of Oregon.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Literally everyone could find a place they fit into here at the University of Oregon. With a little effort on your end, you can feel like this place was made specifically for you. It's a pretty cool feeling.
Tips for prospective students Leave your car, bring your bike. Invest in a high quality rain jacket. An umbrella wouldn't hurt either. Leave any prejudices at home and come here with an open mind. You will change and grow as a person at the University of Oregon. The process will be much smoother if you don't resist it.
Bang for the buck The only reason I wouldn't give it a five is because I know how expensive out-of-state tuition is. In state is affordable, but you might have to take a loan or two out. They say a good education is priceless.
Am enjoying being here Very simply put, this has been the greatest experience of my life. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Am learning a lot Life at the University of Oregon is probably very similar to most other college campuses. Thousands of young, eager students with a yearning to learn something new about themselves and the world they live in. Guys on long boards, girls in leggings and rain boots, and about 600 bikes locked to one bike rack. But there are some major aspects of our campus that set's us apart from other schools. Pro's (In no particular order): Very significant sports/athletics culture (There's a reason we are nick-named The University of Nike. His name is Phil Knight.) The outdoor scene is huge. From hiking Spencer's Butte to the rockin' Outdoor Program, your inner nature explorer will be well fed. Academics are top shelf. We have one of the best Journalism schools in the nation, as well as an incredible Business School. The Sports Marketing program is considered the best in the country. The public transportation in Eugene is convenient and extremely accessible. You will have no trouble getting to and from class with such a fantastic bus system. No need to waste money on a parking pass (heck, you could leave your car at home). Our football team is pretty good... and our sports complexes aren't to shabby either. Eugene is centrally located. We are only a two hour drive from the major city of Portland, Oregon and about 90 minutes from the coast. There is always something to do, even if it isn't in Eugene. It's beautiful here. All the rain produces a lot of green. The scenery here is hard to beat. The air is very clean as well. We are a very bike friendly campus. Bring your bike, it is an invaluable piece of equipment here at UO. We are a very diverse campus. You will meet people from almost every culture and from all walks of life. One of the biggest parts of the learning experience in college is the exposure of the different cultures of your peers. Con's (In no particular order): It rains about nine months out of the year. As an Oregonian since birth, I have learned to live with it. For those who come from a sunnier state (e.g. California), there is definitely a transition period in getting used to all the precipitation. Cost of living can be pretty high. Minimum wage in Oregon is pretty high, and the cost of living reflects that high wage. Save your money or take out an extra loan if you want to be able to afford rent and utilities. On the subject of money, tuition is a bit steep. Especially for you prospective out-of-state students, you will be spending a pretty penny to get a top notch education. In my opinion, however, it is worth the money. The university is growing in numbers every year, so space is limited. Class sizes will be large, especially in your first couple of years here, and registering can be a pain with such limited seats available. We are in the process of building a few new buildings so that may help with the crowd control. The student ticket system for football and basketball games is terrible. Keep in mind that this is coming from a student who DIDN'T get a ticket to the most recent football game.

Food and Dining Food choice is diverse on campus.
Academic Rigor It is pretty challenging, but not so challenging that it is hard to complete a term.
Tips for prospective students It is helpful to know what major you are wanting to get into. If you don't, take classes that you think you will enjoy and take a variety of classes. Hope from one topic to the next until you find a major to get into.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have on campus police that stay 24/7. Safety phone number, if you need to be picked up and brought back to campus late at night or simply emergency contact if something happens.
Clubs and Activities Most clubs and activities here are completely handled by the students. It is up to you which one you want to join. Whether it be sports, reading or writing, or traveling or learning.
Great for these types of students If you are interested in martial arts, we have a wushu club, so come work out with us. Also for all those poet loving people, if you wish to send in your poetry or read someone else s. Join the poet club.
Bang for the buck The weather here changes constantly, whether its raining or just being cold or having a small window of sunlight and warmth. The nature is filled with squirrels and other small animals.
What to do for fun Join a club or organization or travel. There are lots of things around campus that can keep you busy and have fun at the same time. There are lots of sports to take after classes and other clubs, such as writing and poetry or singing and dancing. If you want to ski or hike there are those clubs to. Its up to you what you want to do.
Food and Dining The food is good and well cooked. Most of the food is very healthy, both for meat lovers and vegetarians, however, it does not change often. You will probably end up eating a lot of the same food almost everyday.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice, well accommodated and great RA's. It is up to you how well you wish to get to know your roommates and other student in the dorm.
Academic Rigor They push you hard here. Each classes teaches about one chapter a week, it is much to take in, however, the teachers are good and able to make it a very learn-able experience.
Tips for prospective students It is hard work and classes move fast, so get ready to study. They have lots of classes that you are able to take, get ready to broaden your view. Listen to your teachers and make friends with your classmates, it will make things easier and more enjoyable.
In three sentences It is a fast pacing school, fill with amazing teachers and students. Cool curriculum's and clubs. It is a high rank school filled with people willing to learn.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i would say campus safety is really good, we have plenty of emergency beacon areas and lots of campus security patrols. we even have a mini eugene police office, right on campus.
Great for these types of students left wing free thinkers, potheads, visionaries, people that want to change the world, bookworms and people that just enjoy learning.
What to do for fun pretty decent bar scene, if your young and want to get crazy all the time.
Food and Dining ridiculous amount of food places in eugene and the surrounding uo campus. honestly, i've lived here all my life and still not been to most of the restaurants, bars and marketplaces around here.
Dorm Life i don't live in a dorm room, so i can't attest to what that's like...
Academic Rigor so far the workload has been pretty tough, they definitely don't hold your hand at all. it can be hard at first to adjust from a community college setting, like myself, but as with everything it's just a matter of time. for the most part though, i'm learning a lot of different things, so i enjoy it.
Tips for prospective students if you have a free spirit and like trees and scenery, this is the place for you. the mountains and ocean and big city are all less than an hour and a half away!
In three sentences the university of oregon is the place that i always dreamed i'd be going to college at. amazing scenery and laid back feel. great professors and challenging work.

Categories Comments What to do for fun if you are done with homework there is always something fun do to around campus. almost every night of the week there is a sporting event going on around the campus. going to the football games are the highlight to everyones weekend. if you'd rather play the sport instead of watching it there are many intramural and club sports teams to join as well as a great recreational facility. there are every club imaginable on campus to join. you can jump on the emx of the bus and take a trip to the mall or dollar movie theater.
Food and Dining the food on campus is excellent! there are many options from homestyle cooking to noodle bowls and cafes! there is always something new to try around campus and the cooks are really skilled at what they do. and if you do want something other than campus food, there are tons of restaurants right off campus.
Dorm Life i love living in the dorms! i have met so many people that i will stay friends with for a long time. the convenience of living on campus is great, you can always make it to class on time with not very far to walk. the rooms can be pretty small depending on the style of room you get, but it is manageable. the ras are very nice and helpful when you need them, they create a pleasant and safe atmosphere.
Academic Rigor i have been very challenged in my classes thus far. the language department is a great environment to learn a new language. math can be difficult since most of the teachers are from other parts of the world.
Tips for prospective students prepare yourself to be very focused on school work. it can be very difficult sometimes with all the things going on around campus.
In three sentences the university of oregon has beautiful campus and great school spirit. the campus is very lively and there always new things to do and try. i wouldn't go anywhere else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety of course you have to be careful around campus, especially at night. there are a lot of creeps.
Greek Life i'm not too sure about the greek life. there are a lot of bro's around.
Clubs and Activities there's so many multi cultural clubs like omas, bsu, asian united and more. there are also sports clubs, fun gathering clubs and others.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the jaoqua center. this is probably the coolest building you will ever see on campus. it's all made out of glass and students, mostly athletes go there to hang out.
What to do for fun there's so much you can do. the football and basketball games are the most popular. there's a mall, dance clubs, lots of great food places and mountains.
Food and Dining the food's not bad at all. it does get old after a while though.
Dorm Life everybody seriously loves everybody. there's a lot of yelling, school spirit and interesting people in the dorms.
Academic Rigor some majors are harder than other, but it depends on who you are.
Tips for prospective students keep pushing yourself to achieve your goal, but do not limit yourself on other opportunities.
In three sentences university of oregon is a very good college. everybody is nice to one another. the university of oregon also pushes students to do their best.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities there's a pretty good array of options out there. thankfully there are things for those of us not big into the football scene!
Great for these types of students if you enjoy the outdoors, clean air, green scenery, and don't mind rain and some cold you'll enjoy it here. be warned though that the sun doesn't come out very often, and in the winter when it does it's very cold.
What to do for fun eugene has a lot to offer. go and explore off campus! downtown eugene is a pretty cool place to go, lots of neat shops and restaurants. there's also hiking and biking. places like spencer's butte or biking along the willamette.
Food and Dining go off campus! the best food is definitely not on campus. it gets tiring very fast, and i don't even live in the dorms. there's a few good places in eugene, new york style as well as one that has neopolitan style pizza. so good!
Academic Rigor it depends on what you're studying. some things may be a bit lackluster and occasionally it seems they could pick it up a bit, but the rigor is relatively decent so far.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i wouldn't recommend walking alone after dark (especially female students), but during the day campus is a pleasant and relatively safe place to be.
Food and Dining there are quite a few good ethnic restaurants around campus. i'm not sure about food through the dorms. there are also a variety of choices offered in the emu cafeteria. most importantly, there are plenty of coffee shops around campus.
Dorm Life i live off-campus; i can't fairly rate this.
Academic Rigor as with all things, it depends on the class and the teacher teaching it. i'm not particularly enamored with the art department as a whole.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are the blue buttons for emergencies everywhere and campus safety that patrols constantly.
Greek Life crazy!! there are 21 houses at u of o, its kind of a big deal!!
Clubs and Activities there are tons advertising everyday
Great for these types of students athletes, potheads, business students, art students, language pursuers bike riders skateboarders, everyone really
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus they give out campus coupon booklets all over the place its crazy!! on the rocks is a u of o group the performs on fridays so i've heard i watched their videos they rock
Bang for the buck this school is great if you can handle the weather
What to do for fun join a sorority/fraternity, hit the rec center it's awesome and paid for by your student fees. the emu has a pool table room with a ton of tables, and there are tons of events happening every night. check out the millions of bulletin boards
Food and Dining the food here rocks there are so many options. caspians has the best french fries for only 1.95!! amazing!! there a ton of places on campus from little carts to full on restaurants and fro yo everywhere!! fun stuff man!!
Dorm Life i didn't live in dorms so i can't answer but i've heard for non partiers its rough. eugene is notorious for smoking weed. be prepared!
Academic Rigor if you had it easy in high school and passed your classes without even opening your book, college is going to be rough. some classes are easy to pass, but others are extremely difficult but you need to take them, so be prepared to pull all nighters and have to study tons. don't study on your bed!! bad habit!!
Tips for prospective students be prepared for extremely cold weather, there is wifi everywhere on campus so bring a reliable computer, and ask a ton of question about everything from campus cash and how to use it for the computer lab, to where the career center is and how to apply online for on-campus jobs at the orientation in the summer. its very important!!
In three sentences the u of o is an exceptional school in the aspect of studies and access to resources. in the prospect of on-campus jobs, in can be difficult. and as for equality among students, student athletes get the most priority over everyone else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always campus crime alerts that are e-mailed to all the students, but I feel that UO is very safe for the most part. On weekends, there are always police patrolling the area, which gives a sense of safety, and there is also safe driver/designated driver service which is a free taxi service for students at night.
Greek Life Greek life at UO is big, but not nearly as big as some other universities. It is expensive for sororities, but frats are relatively cheap. Every sorority/fraternity is known for something... so watch out!
Clubs and Activities There are tons of intramural sports which many students participate in. There are also many other academic based clubs on campus.
Great for these types of students UO is great for frat boys who love football and hanging out with friends. It is also good for those who are interested in journalism or architecture.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love studying at the Law Library, even though I'm not a law student. Another good place on campus when the weather is nice is behind/between Pacific and Willamette Hall. There is a nice calm area with rock waterfalls, very nice for those that need an escape. The inside of the Willamette building is also a calm, quiet place to study.
Bang for the buck I am an in-state resident, and Oregon is so over-priced. The bookstore sells overpriced books (I would suggest renting books off bookrenter.com) and tuition for first-year students is high.
What to do for fun The night life is good at Oregon, minus winter term. Fall and Spring call for frisbee, football, soccer, suntanning, and just hanging out on the grass with friends and fellow students.
Food and Dining It's good for the first term and a half, and then it gets old.... fast. There are a lot of options and places to eat, but since you eat at those places every single day, you get really tired of it about half way through winter term. I would suggest some non-dorm food snacks in your room.
Dorm Life It depends on what dorm you get in, but it is worth it just for the experience. My hall is very tight-knit and we all love either other, but I have friends in other dorms that hate their neighbors and roommates. It just depends on where you live and who you live with.
Academic Rigor It depends on what kind of student you are. You can either sail your way through school without really trying, however there are classes and resources for more academically inclined students. Any type of student can go here and succeed.
Tips for prospective students Don't slack off your freshman year. Make sure you get all your prerequisites out of the way early in your college career. Use you time wisely, meaning don't take classes that don't satisfy any requirements.
In three sentences Eugene has a laid back atmosphere and a friendly student body. Being a big university, you sort of get to choose your education. You can either slack-off or get tutors and really pursue your education here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe. There are alerts that notify you of bad things that happen on or near campus. There are light-up blue buttons around campus that you can press to call the police, and campus is very lit up at night. It is extremely safe during the day.
Greek Life Greek life is not very big, only 10-11% of campus, but being in Greek Life, I feel like it is pretty big and definitely expanding.
Bang for the buck It is very expensive, especially out of state, but I am extremely happy I chose to go to Oregon.
What to do for fun I like to go to parties, go to the movies, go to the mall, and just hangout in the dorms with friends.
Food and Dining Carson dining is very convenient, but some of their food options aren't too appetizing. If you go in and don't see anything you like, there is a salad and yogurt bar that you can never go wrong with. There's also always dessert and fruit which are delicious. The salads and sandwiches at Dux Bistro are really good, but if you choose the same one too often you get over them. The chicken noodle soup and minestrone is really good, but they only offer each once a week. The pastries are amazing. Hamilton has an abundance of choices, and they are all very good! I have only been to Barnhart for three times because it is too far, not bad though.
Dorm Life I live in Carson, which I believe is the best dorm. We have a tight community and everyone can be trusted. The rooms are spacious, there is food downstairs, the showers are big and warm, the only downside is the lack of closet space.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult, just like I would expect any college class to be.
Tips for prospective students There is a lot of choices for food, but you get over them quickly. Make sure you have a rain jacket, umbrella, and rain boots!
In three sentences I am very satisfied with the University of Oregon. The teachers and students are all great people with an abundance of knowledge. The weather is very different from what I'm used to, but it is worth it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can get a ride home from parties, or even from the library, through the free Designated Driver Shuttle (DDS) or the Assault Prevention Shuttle (APS) any day of the week, it's so convenient! Also, there are emergency poles with buttons that you can press around campus that you can press if you feel you are in danger. However, I have never felt scared or in danger around campus. There are always people around no matter what time of day so you're never alone or scared.
Greek Life Do it or don't, either way you'll have a blast! What's nice about Greek life at UO is that it's not mandatory. If that's you're style, then Greek life will be awesome! If you're not into the sorority or fraternity life, you won't be risking not having a social life.
Clubs and Activities UO Outdoor Program is a must for adventurers! Also, there are multicultural clubs for every type of person. The UO also keeps students very updated about activities and events through emails, Facebook and fliers.
Great for these types of students Great for laid back students who don't need to be in a big city environment. I love the U of O because I can actually study without being distracted by the attractions of a big city. But I can still go to a big city easily, and there is always something to do so you're never bored.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It never rains at Autzen stadium! Must go to a football game, so many chants and hand signs that you have to learn!
What to do for fun Anything and everything! Hiking, snowboarding, skiing, swimming, biking, weekend trips to Portland, house parties, fraternity parties, University of Oregon has a place and an activity for everyone.
Food and Dining From Carson's dinner, which is so incredibly good, to the burritos at Big Mouth Burrito, to the salad's and sandwiches at LLC, I couldn't have imagined better dorm food. I actually was surprised that college dorm food would be this tasty! Plus, if you end up getting bored of the food, just go to Grab N Go, a market where you can use points.
Dorm Life Loved the dorms! Met my current apartment-mates and some friends that I will have for life. The rooms aren't the best quality, but I got to meet some amazing people!
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you take, you can have the hardest term of your life of you can breeze by. Classes are awesome! They range from 25 people to 300, so you have a great range. Even with general education classes, there are some super interesting options that can provide the impetus for you to change your major!
Tips for prospective students Winter term take classes that are harder than the ones you take Fall or Spring term, because the gloomy weather is the best for late nights in the library. A rain jacket and rain boots are a must. Spring term get excited to whip out your shorts and flip flops for some gorgeous sunny Eugene weather!
In three sentences While the weather is sometimes a bit dreary, the University of Oregon's spirit and atmosphere more than makes up for it. Between crazy and exciting football games in the fall, to the street fair in the spring, the University of Oregon has it all! Come here if you want the real college experience, one that you couldn't trade for anything else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Occasionally we get campus reports of break-ins, maybe three of four times this year. While that is somewhat scary, I don't feel as though I am every alone in Eugene. Even in the middle of the night there are groups of people walking along sidewalk, so there's no need to feel alone or un-safe at night.
Greek Life From what I hear, the Greek life at UO is about half as large as regular schools. On campus, I still feel like I see a lot of Greek insignias on sweaters and shirts but they aren't obnoxious or anything life that. It seems to me that the point of Greek life here is simply to make a few more friends, get involved, and always know where the party's at.
Great for these types of students High schoolers that love everything Oregon stands for: individuality, fun, appreciattion of the environment, and congeniality. I especially urge those who didn't feel like they fit in very well in highschool, everyone fits in Eugene, TRUST ME!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It seems to me that student clubs are an extremely active thing at the University of Oregon campus. I can see the schools larping team practicing outside my window quite often, and from what I hear, UO club teams such as Ultimate Frisbee and Lacrosse are some of the best on the west coast! In addition to sports, there are other really active groups such as the composting club, the Zombies vs. Zombie Hunters are always toiling on campus, and the student government.
Bang for the buck As an Oregon resident, I pay in-state tuition. I know tuition is rising all across the country but I don't think there's anywhere, especially in Oregon, where I could be more happy, and for the relatively cheap in-state tuition I'm paying, there really aren't any comparisons.
What to do for fun There are many things campus-wide going on all the time. There is probably an event going on campus every single day. The city of Eugene is notorious for it's beautiful marathon and cycling scenery. On the weekends, students are often out partying at Greek-life functions, watching live music at the co-ops, or having a good time with close friends.
Food and Dining Dorms are great, I've never had a friend visit from another college that wasn't insanely jealous of our diverse selection for dorm food! My favorite places are the Mongolian Grill-esque stir fry joint, and the chipotle-esque fresca Mexican place. And that's just one part of dorm food! Just off campus one can find any kind of food they want from Greek to Hawaiian to famous Voodoo donuts! Oh and I can't forget the trendy coffee-sandwich bar on campus open till 2am every night! And did I mention I'm a vegetarian?
Dorm Life Dorms are great, I've never had a friend visit from another college that wasn't insanely jealous of our diverse selection for dorm food! Students are all eager to make friends here. Though some times it takes a little initiative, Eugene is a very easy place to get comfortable.
Academic Rigor The difficulty of what you study obviously depends on what you study. As a biology student, I feel as though the subject can be extremely difficult at times, but never too difficult to keep me from getting an A! On the other hand, the pre-business classes I have taken have been incredibly easy. There might be something to say about students intending to study business rather than biology though.
Tips for prospective students Invest a lot of time socializing during the first two weeks or so. I made the mistake of going home a lot during the first two weeks and by the time I went looking for friends, I noticed that most students had been well integrated right away.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is the ultimate in diversity. The students here are not only diverse ethnically, but also very culturally diverse. You'll meet people interested in every conceivable subject imaginable and we're all eager to make friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is crime on every campus- there's no way to escape it. However, we have a lot of emergency buttons scattered throughout campus. Department of Public Safety will come to you based on the button you push. If you feel unsafe to stay in one location, you can walk along the path and continue pushing the buttons and they will follow your trail.
Clubs and Activities Club sports is an AWESOME way to stay in shape, meet new people, and to have some fun!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You have to know all the football cheers if you're going to go to a game. It's a must because you have to participate to get the full experience!! (Ex. It never rains in autzen stadium!) Also, most campuses don't sit right next to a gorgeous river. My suggestion? Stay in Eugene for a summer to float the river.
What to do for fun There are so many things outdoorsy to do (so many places to hike- Spencer's Butte, Skinner's Butte, Hendricks park etc.) There are also a few bowling and/or putt-putt golf courses around. A few different painting pottery places, and SO many places to eat. Oh, and you can't forget the 2$ theatre!
Food and Dining Food on campus is awesome. Dorm/dining food is so good, most people go back to eat dorm food once they've moved out!
Dorm Life Rooms are fairly small, but you get to know your roommate well. Food is pretty good! Overall, it's a great experience!
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, will depend on your work load. However, I've found that even if your physical work load is light, the thinking they have you do really opens your eyes to your life and experiences and ways to improve the future. There can be a lot of personal challenge along with work load.
Tips for prospective students Talk to your advisor. Talk to your professors. And go get tutoring. Don't fall behind. And get involved with things you love!
In three sentences This school is great. It's accepting of all types of people. And there are so many great opportunities to get involved (volunteering, sports, clubs, etc.)

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Not going to lie, the school is expensive, but because of it's great programs it makes it a little worth it. Remember though, it's a public school, aid is hard to come by and the tuition is increasing every year.
Food and Dining Lots of food options and places to eat and its all yummy!
Dorm Life Love the dorms, set up similarly to other schools with 2-3 people per room, but they are clean, modern, and look enjoyable to live in. They aren't run down.
Academic Rigor Great education here! Excellent programs and majors with professors who are passionate about they're field.
Tips for prospective students If you're from out of state, visit in the rain! Look up anything you're interested in and make sure it is here either here, or where ever else you look at. Use ALL of you're resources for financial aid because the school has a bit of a price tag.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful and full of life. Where ever you go there are students having fun and studying, there's always something going on. The town of Eugene is a college town with everything you need right there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety On campus there are lights about everywhere and these bright blue buttons to push in an emergency situation. Just off campus in some of the nearby apartments there have been some situations but not too crazy.
Greek Life The greek life on campus has every angle available from the partiers to the geeks and many in between. There's a place for everyone. Although not for me, it's very cool seeing how unified the chapters are.
Clubs and Activities SO many clubs and activities. The student rec center is so awesome. There's always available workout equipment and lots of other games and sports. There is a club for whatever you are interested in and if not, make one! People are sure to join, I mean we have a quidditch club!
Great for these types of students Adventurous, outdoorsy, international, diverse, really anyone who's willing to adapt and learn.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Randomly there will be little concerts in the EMU area where you walk by for classes and it's a really lovely surprise to get to stop and listen to every now and then. There are so many nooks and crannies for studying and exploring it's really great!
Bang for the buck It's worth it. The campus is beautiful and is worked on everyday to remain that way. The professors and other staff are helpful and friendly and the classes are meant for learning.
What to do for fun There are things for every person. Shopping in the malls, theaters both movies and plays, hiking trails and buttes, restaurants and coffee shops, concerts and much more.
Food and Dining LOVE the many coffee shops around campus. Dorm food is very good but sometimes gets tiring. Make sure you change it up and bring money to explore Eugene's many awesome restaurants!
Dorm Life Dependent on the dorm you choose they are great! You can find a person for each like or dislike you have. It becomes the family away from your own.
Academic Rigor The academics are challenging, interesting, and well planned and taught. Great academic experience.
Tips for prospective students Live in the dorms and you're guaranteed friends. Always bring an umbrella and never be stuck inside on the sunny days. Take smaller classes.
In three sentences UO is diverse and exciting. The professors are interested and the students are interesting. There's so much to do and learn it's wonderful.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Eugene has so many fun things to do. There is so many music halls that have a variaty of concerts. There is a very large amount of parties and social activitites. I found many religious organizations to become involved with in many different activities. There are many charities and organizations to become involved with.
Food and Dining The UO Housing does a great job at incorporating a large variety of local freshly grown food in the dorms. In all of the dining facilites Housing is promoting green processes with compost of all cups and plates. The options are very vaired compared to many of my friends dorms.
Dorm Life The dorm life is very fun and positive. UO Housing has a variety of activites put on to give many opprotunites to meet a lot of people and socialize. The RA's are very great at engaging the hall community to get to know each other. My hall was very close and a positive environment.
Academic Rigor The professors are very dedicated to their disciplines. Overall, I have had a positive experience with the classes. The overall academics are not the most challenging but the overall amount of majors gives a lot of options.
Tips for prospective students In general, I would say that it is important to look at what you want your college experience to be. The dorms have a very prominant party scene however, the diversity of eugene has many different organizations for the people not interested in parting.
In three sentences UO has been an overall really good school for me. Eugene is the perfect college town. The energy at the school is very high.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck 3 stars may seem like a harsh rating, but 4 seemed a little too generous for the following reasons: 1. Parking is in no way included in your tuition and is extremely expensive for students who are living on campus or plan to drive to campus. 2. The University offers lots of services that no one talks about or takes advantage of simply because they don't know they exist. 3. You rarely get the dorm room you ask for, and for students whose success depends on how comfortable they feel in their home environment, this can ruin their freshman year.
What to do for fun Oregon is a really great school for people who love the outdoors. We aren't very far away from the mountains or the beach so there are plenty of activities in that sense. There is also a lot of hiking and bike trails around the Eugene area. Additionally, the school has state of the art athletic facilities, so anyone who enjoys a good work out is surrounded by only the best equipment. Usually the rec center is filled with students and you may have to wait to use certain machines, but you can also take classes like yoga, zumba, and weight lifting if you choose not to create your own work outs. There are lots of ways to get involved on campus - many of the clubs have political affiliations so, for people who might not be interested in politics, the Greek system is another way to network with students and have fun. And lastly, as with any college town, there is a pretty large bar scene for students who are 21.
Food and Dining The dining halls at Oregon are actually very nice. The quality is good and the selection is even better since there are many venues to choose from. You are not forced to sit down and eat cafeteria style - many students choose to get their food to go and eat while they do homework in their rooms. You pay for your meals with points that you buy as part of a package included in your room and board. Everything is connected to your student ID card, all that is required of you is to present the card and scan it to redeem your points.
Dorm Life Dorm life varies greatly on campus. The majority of the dorms are located on campus and are very close to the classroom buildings. Even the off-campus dorms are in prime real estate locations for students who choose to live off campus. The largest issue with the dorms is space - rooms that used to be doubles have now become triples due to larger and larger incoming classes of freshmen. Also, not every dorm as immediate access to dining which can become a real pain in the rainy season. The most famous of the Oregon dorm complexes is probably Bean hall, built by a prison architect, looks, and at times can feel like, a prison complex. However, many students who find themselves in Bean make many friends and bond over their misfortune of ending up in such an unfortunate residence hall. Alternatively, Barnheart hall, one of the off-campus dorms, is a renovated hotel and is very nice, however it's amenities come at a much greater cost compared to Bean.
Academic Rigor Depending on your course of study, the academics here can range from being extremely easy to very difficult. Many students choose to double or triple major which leaves very little room for fun and easy elective courses. However, with a single major, you have a lot of opportunities to explore different departments and throw a fun class in here and there.
Tips for prospective students As with any college, I would make sure to come out and visit the campus before making any kind of commitment. When you come to Eugene, you don't just join a university, you also become part of a community that may or may not be accustomed to what you are used to.
In three sentences The University of Oregon offers a variety of majors that can cater to a very diverse student population. There is a lot of school spirit here because many of the students are native Oregonians and the school is closely affiliated with Nike. There are a lot of clubs, activities, and services that the school provides that greatly enhance the experience of being a student here.

Clubs and Activities To many to list.
Great for these types of students Great for every type of student. It can feel like a big school or a small school.
Bang for the buck Especially if you get into Clark's Honor College, the U of O seems like a privet college at times but without the increased price tag. Many of the scholarships are automatic with enrollment.
What to do for fun The football games are free, if you are quick enough to get tickets.
Food and Dining There are restaurants and grocery stores all over campus that are included in the meal plan, which includes many healthy chooses.
Dorm Life Students are encouraged to live in apartments after freshman year. Though it is your choose and there are brand new dorms (as of 201).
Academic Rigor The U of O has many honor programs for more academic students. Including the Robert Donald Clark Honors College, independent research, college scholars program, departmental honors, honor societies and first-year programs.
Tips for prospective students Education can only take you so far, you must be ready to apply yourself, let your self grow by trying as many things you possibly can.
In three sentences The campus and facilities at the University of Oregon, seem to me to be the best in the world. New dorms for academic students, a very strong athletic program, and exchange programs, the U of O has something for every student.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe and The DPS officers are friendly and very helpful. There is never a time where you should feel unsafe when your on campus.
Greek Life The rush process for the girls is as ridiculous as any other college but if your a dude looking to join a frat, then you have come to the right place. There is a no hazing policy and the rushing system for frat's is easy laid back and fun!
Clubs and Activities There are so many opportunities to be a part of. The student government is always looking for more people along with organizations to support the students. And the club sport teams are also very exciting and a very respectable thing to be a part of.
Great for these types of students If you are outgoing, and like trying new things and love change and experience, then stop your search now because the UO iis by far the best school for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On the Rocks which is a nationally recognized acapella group performs every Friday at 4 o clock in a common area at the center of campus. The football games are the most ridiculous event I have ever been a part of. By far the best student section in the country.
Bang for the buck There are always things going on around campus and I have never been Bored a single day on campus and I love it here. Everyone is so welcoming and willing to include everyone in every activity. This is defiantly the most refreshing happy campus I have ever visited.
What to do for fun The University of Oregon has become a very recognizable school in athletics so going to any athletic event is always fun, especially the football games. Every game at the bottom of section of 5 you will find me and my friends body painting at every home game. Come find me and ask to join and we would be happy to include everyone. More the merrier
Food and Dining The food needs work but it is always accessible and it is always consistent. The late night eating is delicious though, There are so many good things to get at night until 2 AM.
Dorm Life It's loud. It's small. The food isn't the best. But I loved it. I have met so many people and have had so many good times in the dorms and Choosing a random roommate was such a good decision.
Academic Rigor It is quite the jump from high school but there are endless resources available to help out. I have spent a lot of hours in the Teaching and Learning Center getting help with math and writing. Although the classes are hard, everyone can do it if they are willing to try hard.
Tips for prospective students For me I was not sure if my G.P.A. from high school would hold me back, but when I called and talked to an adviser they were friendly and willing to help immediately. If you are looking to come to school at the UO and your not sure if you are eligible in the first place, talk to someone over the phone before giving up.
In three sentences The University Of Oregon is a fantastic school that offers many great programs to further one's career aspirations. Coming here you will meet people from all around the world and you will have opportunities to engage in a large variety of activities that one may have never even thought of being a part of. But there are many places that Eugene offers that are AMAZING. There's cheap good food and expensive good food. One of my favorite thing has been trying out all the good food Eugene has to offer.
Dorm Life Dorm live is super fun and worth it for your first year, and only your first year. There are some dorms that are really nice and some that are terrible, so you get what you pay for mostly. All the dorm food is very good and you'll be super close to all your classes.
Academic Rigor Depending on what program that you are going for the academic rigor is going to be different. The business school has amazing professors and the work is hard but it is definitely manageable. Although, there are some classes were you should plan on having no life while taking them.
Tips for prospective students - Live in the dorms for the first year - Don't live far from campus the other years - Take advantage of the great concerts!

What to do for fun Go to sporting events. The Friday shows are really fun. The student unions put on culture nights that include food and entertainment, which are fun. Parties. Plays and concerts. Going to the mall is always a bit of an adventure. Complex government likes to put on programs, they usually have free food... so go to them, you'll want the food.
Food and Dining The food isn't bad. The University does a great job of accommodating to different dietary needs, for example, as a vegetarian, I found a decent amount of options that fit my needs. However, you do get tired of it after awhile. I'm going to miss Big Mouth.
Dorm Life I loved my dorm! Everyone was friendly. The RAs were always helpful when you asked them for help or advice. It's a unique experience, I think everyone should have.
Academic Rigor I think the classes are challenging and the faculty are, for the most part, passionate about their subject and extremely intelligent.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe and constantly has campus police driving around, plus there are emergency buttons all around campus that you can press if you feel in danger,. Also the school offers safe ride which like a free taxi for kids who live on campus to get home safely if they are not in a group of people.
Greek Life The greek life on campus is great they aren't too crazy like what you see in the movies and they all do a lot of community service. Plus they always have a lot of fun outings or events and is really easy to build strong relationships with people.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities at the U of O they have a club for almost anything so it is very easy and important to get involved.
Great for these types of students The University of Oregon is great for students who love school spirit, loved to be challenged and be around people. Also the school is really great for environmentalists or people who just really take pride in helping out their community.
Bang for the buck Unfortunately the down side to the University of Oregon would definitely have to be all the expenses. Going to U of O like most Universities can be very expensive, but at U of O tuition keeps going up, books are very expensive, and the dorms are over priced.
What to do for fun For fun go to the sporting events! University of Oregon has some of the most amazing athletes and they are just incredible to watch. Also even though Eugene is a small town it still has the basics like movies theatres, malls, spas, arcades, etc.
Food and Dining The food at U of O was very good definitely restaurant quality food. The best part was that there was a variety of places that you could eat at. The downside was that most of the food wasn't very healthy and even though there was variety eventually you got bored of the foods.
Dorm Life The dorm life at the University is absolutely an amazing experience that you don't want to miss out on. I personally was stuck in the smallest dorms on campus which was frustrating at first, but you ended up being closer to people. The dorm life really allowed me to create life long friends and helped adjust to not living with my parents.
Academic Rigor This school prides itself on offering pretty challenging courses even some of the 100 level classes can be very intense. As long as you don't yourself get behind then you will learn a lot and be very successful.
Tips for prospective students Some tips for students is to stay caught up on work and to really get involved. Also not to pass up on any great opportunities, because you never know what might really help you for your future.
In three sentences The school I feel is very empowering because of the fact of how much they push beyond what was thought to be your limits. It is very high in school spirit even beyond the football games which is great, because you feel very proud of going there. Unfortunately, the school is very expensive and keeps getting more expensive which is very hard on low income students, like myself.

Categories Comments Campus Safety During the day and for the most part at night, campus feels pretty safe. If you're in an empty part of campus late at night though, it's probably safer to be in a group of people. The campus Department of Public Safety does a good job of sending out Crime Alerts when something major happens so students know that crime is real and to be smart about their surroundings.
Greek Life Greek life isn't a huge part of campus life but is definitely getting bigger. I'm not personally a member of Greek life but from the outside looking in, it seems pretty laid back. If you aren't a member of Greek life, you can still go to most of the parties and events thrown by fraternities and sororitites so if you can't afford to join or only want to go to the parties that's definitely an option.
Clubs and Activities There are so many opportunities for students to join clubs! Club sports offers just about every sport imaginable, some teams you don't even have to try out for. There is just about every kind of club you can imagine for students to join- you just have to search to find the right fit for you.
Great for these types of students Students who are proud of their school, their athletes, and what they have accomplished. Not only does Oregon have an awesome football team, our basketball, baseball, and track teams have accomplished great things as well.
Bang for the buck Out of state tuition is pricey and scholarships are limited, but for me, it's worth it. Oregon has so many unique opportunities and prestigious programs that you can't get at many other schools. If you are able to work out a budget and stick to it, paying for tuition is doable.
What to do for fun Go to school sporting events! No matter what sport, season, or weather, you will always find a devoted student section having the time of their lives. Students at Oregon are so proud of their sports teams and are always supporting them. If sports aren't your thing, go explore Eugene! There are so many hiking, biking, or walking trails fairly close to campus. Also, Valley River Center is just a bus ride away from campus if you want a mall or a movie theatre.
Food and Dining For the most part, the dorm food is okay. Sometimes it can get kind of sketchy but the housing staff tries to keep things fresh and clean. There are seven places to get food, which seems like a lot but trust me, after living there for nine months it gets old. If you can afford it, try to eat off campus once in a while- it helps break up the monotony.
Dorm Life Living in dorms as a freshman is a definite must! I learned so much about myself and grew so much in such a short time that I don't think would have been possible if not for the dorms. Plus, being surrounded by the people who will most likely become your closest friends is a definite plus!
Academic Rigor Most classes are about on par with what I expected. More work than high school but if you stay on top of things, keep up with required readings, attend class, go to the tutors if needed, and talk to your professors you should be just fine.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply for housing early! Dorms fill up fast. If you can, join a FIG or Residential FIG. The programs are designed for freshman and will definitely help you out.
In three sentences The school is fantastic! I had the most amazing freshman experience. The atmosphere surrounding the school is one of a kind.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I dont really know that part yet but I am so ready to experience college life and go to events and join clubs.
Food and Dining The food is good. Plus there are restaurants within walking distance.
Dorm Life I havent experienced the dorms yet but i am actually going to be staying in the dorms this weekend for IntroDUCKtion this weekend and i am glad I get the experience before I go to live there
Academic Rigor I have sat in on a few random classes around the campus and the teachers seem very well educated and I cant wait to start learning alot there in the Fall.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ready for the rain. I have visited the campus twice and it rained both times. But I enjoy rain.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful and inviting. The people are friendly and welcoming when you are walking around. There is so much to do and so many things to get involved in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is plenty to do for fun all around the University of Oregon. From intramural sports to camping, hiking, and more, the University provides amazing opportunities for all types of people. Just as well, the fraternity and sorority life on campus is outstanding.
Food and Dining Dorm food seems great a first, but after awhile it'll start to get morning. That's not to say that the food's not good. Because it is.
Dorm Life The dorms are great! They might be small, but that gives you an opportunity to meet new and interesting people from around the country and around the world.
Academic Rigor Though the undergraduate courses are not the most difficult, the University of Oregon provides an academic challenge designed to enhance your learning experience.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused on your education. There might be a lot of social pressure around you but it's important to remember that school always come first. Also, don't be afraid to meet new people and try new things.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is an amazing place situated in a beautiful city, filled with quality students and teachers. Choosing the University of Oregon was one of the best decisions I've ever made and I hope others pursue an education there. Can see myself no where else but Eugene, Oregon; GO DUCKS!

Categories Comments Campus Safety DPS swarms the place. Any misconduct reported and 5 DPS cops will be on the case in under 5 minutes.
Greek Life Am a part of that and I really like it. It's small in the grand picture of the University but feels rather large as all Greeks seem to stick more together. We have a good time.
Clubs and Activities So many clubs, I can't comment on them though as I am not a part of any
Great for these types of students Ambitious, outdoorsy, sports fans, earthy, skate boarders
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus UO Outdoor Barn is awesome for all your bike repair needs. They find your problem and then help you fix it yourself. A huge money saver compared with taking your bike into the shop every time it needs to be fixed. Also you learn a lot about bike maintenance. Off the Wall is my favorite place to eat. It's 2 miles a way, and i usually bike there for a meal every weekend. There was an underwear run during the last week of classes which went through campus.
Bang for the buck Expensive for out of state but well worth the price. Cost of living is real cheap, especially being from California as I am, as is most of the student population. It is on par with the price of out of state universities throughout the country.
What to do for fun My favorite thing is go on bike rides around the beautiful trails. Go on walks through town and hang out outside when it is sunny. Everyone is outside when the weather is nice out.
Food and Dining Good food around Eugene and it is all well priced, especially with the campus cash coupons that are handed out on campus. Dorm food is good, i recommend the cafeteria at Barnhart or Carson. I'll be asking freshmen next year to be getting me dorm food often.
Dorm Life Tons of fun, really what more could you ask for. Beautiful girls everywhere who don't mind sharing a little single bed. Guys who will want to do whatever you are feeling up to. Never a dull moment.
Academic Rigor I wouldn't say it is too difficult. Stay on top of assignments and homework and that will very nearly lead you to the promise land of gaining those credits. To get straight As on the other hand requires on average 3 all nighters a week, there is just not enough time in the day to accomplish that.
Tips for prospective students Go to your academic advisor frequently as they will help you pick your classes and discover yourself. By utilizing your interests and turning them into classes, they will help you find a degree that fits your personality. Do your homework in groups, so if you can join a residential dorm with kids who are all planning on doing the same major as you.
In three sentences Eugene and the greater part of the state of Oregon revel in the University and support it unwaveringly. The resources provided to encourage and help the students succeed is very beneficial, every teacher I have had will meet you at almost any time of the day. The teachers and student body are the most down to earth, similar to me group of people I've ever been surrounded by.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Assault Prevention Shuttles (APS) are provided free to all students and will pick students up from anywhere within a radius of campus. During the weekends, DDS (designated driver shuttle) will also pick up students and drop them off at their homes. The campus is patrolled constantly by campus officers and do their best to keep kids safe (but not act like parents). Crime alerts are sent out regularly to warn students about any new dangers or precautions they should be aware of.
Greek Life Greek life is the largest student group on campus and yet only comprises about 15% of the population. I'm a member of a sorority and have tons of friends in and out greek life. Joining greek life in no way, shape, or form determines your social inclusiveness or social standing. There's as many pro's for being in greek life as there are out. For any incoming students I would suggest at least going through part of rush in order to meet people (that was my plan) and see if there's a group of people you'd want to be a part of; if not, no worries. Hopefully you've made a few friends during the process and will find something else to be involved in!
Bang for the buck I will leave school with absolutely no debt, a major and 2 minors, and the best college experience I could as for. If thats not the best bang for you buck, I dont know what is.
What to do for fun Float the river, hike spencer butte, attend football/basketball/soccer games, join greek life, join activity clubs, or drive to the beach (an hour away).
Food and Dining Every friend I had come visit me from other schools commented on how much better our dorm food is than theirs. Every. Single. Friend. There's a restaurant for every food craving. Burritos, sushi bar, pasta bar, Mongolian grill, salads and sandwiches (made fresh for you), cafes, late night pizza and milkshakes, buffet style with tons of options, and last but not least: weekend brunch to DIE for. I ate better in the dorms than I did at home.
Dorm Life Great dorm life. 2 New dorms put up these past few years with the oldest dorm to be torn down and replaced soon. Not as spacious as some colleges but most students only live in them for a year and it's one of the ways in which I made new friends.
Academic Rigor Tons of major options with hundreds of different classes. Challenging classes, mixed in with some less demanding ones. Professors know that students are competing with students from other schools for scholarships and graduate schools and make sure that the curriculum compares.
Tips for prospective students This school was dead last on my college picks list. I wanted so badly to go out of state to a fancy ivy league school. I got in to every single school I applied for and yet received a letter from every one of those schools saying that they expected me to pay around $50,000+ a year (yep, with scholarships). Oregon was the only school I could attend and leave with minimum debt, so I jumped and sent in my intent to register with the goal of coming out close to debt free and being able to go straight to graduate school. I have never in my life made a better decision. I have the best of every school I applied to in one place. I have amazing top tier professors, accessibility to academic opportunities all over the world with any one of the hundreds of professors as well as with the professors of our partner schools. I get to attend giant nationally watched football and basketball games, participate in greek life, and meet thousands of people, instead of just hundreds. I wanted a small school in order to get the attention I needed, and to not be overwhelmed in making friends. Neither of these things has EVER been a problem. This school is honestly one of the few hidden gems in the nation, and it's becoming less and less hidden. I suggest you look into it, and at least visit!
In three sentences Best bang for its buck. Amazing invested teachers, great big school atmosphere with great sporting events and lots of academic opportunities.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are lots of stuff to do: you could go to the rec center; the games are always so much fun; there are a lot of frat parties and pretty much anything else you can think of!
Food and Dining The food is pretty good, there is a lot of choices for everyone, and they try to cater to special food needs.
Dorm Life I did not live in the dorms, but I spent a lot of time there, and it was awesome! all the dorms are in fairly good condition, and the students are great.
Academic Rigor This school has some very difficult classes, and paired with more simple classes gives every student the opportunity to succeed.
Tips for prospective students UO is a wonderful school, and I feel like I am getting a top education here. I would look at UO for any major!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Seems to be very safe.
Bang for the buck This is great area and a very healthy one to live in. The bike paths are extensive in the area.
What to do for fun Everything in the town to do. Movies, music, theatre, dinning, community events. The coast and mountains surround the area, with boundless outdoor recreation.
Food and Dining Great food all over campus, any variety you might desire
Dorm Life Don't live in a Dorm, but I have heard the life is wild, if you get into that kind of thing.
Academic Rigor I feel the professors are hard but fair, and I would rate it 4 out of five on a scale of 5.
Tips for prospective students Come early for classes, as the parking fills up very quickly. The campus is beautiful, but the parking is atrocious.
In three sentences This is a very progressive, stimulating University with boundless support and stimulation. I feel I have a wide variety of options available at the U of O. The University is where I will finish my degree, and would rate it as 9 out of 10 as far as schools go.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have received various e-mails throughout the school year about crime alerts and many involved sexual abuse. I feel like the system is more focused on giving people citations and tickets for drinking and smoking than making sure the streets are safe for students from predators.
Greek Life Many fraternities and sororities on campus that are very involved and connected with the community. Between the greek life there are strong connections and friendships in the University.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs at UO, unions free various races, community service and awareness groups, and hobbies. There will be at least one club that will catch your eye, if you are willing to attend the club then you won't regret it.
Great for these types of students Great for someone from a small town who wants to experience a bigger city environment, someone who loves nature, and easy going people who are free spirits.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our mascot, Donald Duck, does push-ups for the amount of points we score after each touch down.
Bang for the buck The university has amazing professors that really challenge me as well as students who are motivated. There are a few professors who I never want to see again as well as some students. Overall the courses available are amazing.
What to do for fun It is important to join a club, any club that will make your experience more worth it. Also there are many movie theaters and great places to eat, and the football games are hectic but fun.
Food and Dining There was a decent variety of foods from different places and styles. Groceries and snacks could be bought and late night meals were available. Hours were easy to work with around your schedule.
Dorm Life The dorms I feel are small, over-priced, and with no cooking area. The walls are very thin even a little noise can be heard. It is hard to make connections from different floors because there are very little ice breakers.
Academic Rigor There are broad courses offered at the University with many different view points and opinions. Many professors are very passionate about their subject and might have very strong opinions on certain topics. The courses, professors, and student all create a very easy environment to learn in with a few distractions.
Tips for prospective students If you are a student of color or someone coming from a big city you will not see a lot of diversity. It iÃ?Â?s a small city but has all your basic needs, The people here can be the realest, most genuine people or two-faced people who will not make good friends.
In three sentences University of Oregon is a welcoming environment with a large mixture of students from Oregon and California. People are friendly and helpful, but we are also known for being the rudest fans when its comes to our football team. I rate this University a 3.5/5 based on academics, area, students, faculty, and my experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Eugene Police are now our campus security. They are out all night and all day. There are also shuttle services to make sure students get where they need to go safely, especially at night. The university is also very good about emailing and alerting students incase of any incidents that have occurred on campus just to keep everyone alert and aware.
Greek Life Over 800 girls rushed this year in hopes of joining one of the many sororities here on campus. All of the sororities are very involved with their charities. The fraternity's have also received great reviews from their new rushing class. The greek community at the university is strong and very tight knit where all of the chapters support one another.
Clubs and Activities It would probably be impossible for a student to not find a club of interest. There are hundreds of clubs on campus and each and every one of them is so passionate of their cause and or message. The club community here is a large one and is one of the university's strongest aspects.
Great for these types of students Any student who likes the outdoors, diversity, athletics, or just likes a laid back, friendly community will fit in perfect here. There are also so many students here with a message in which they create clubs. So if you have a message or are interested in many different things, the clubs here are perfect for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't be shocked when you begin to hear SCOODUCKS echoing in the air. It seems to be the one phrase that every Duck knows. It started off as Lets Go Ducks, but soon it was either shortened or slurred into SCOODUCKS, no one really knows. Today, there's even popular merchandise selling with this traditional phrase.
Bang for the buck While the out of state tuition is a bit high, the experience and education you receive at the University of Oregon is priceless. It truly is worth every penny because there is no university out there like this one.
What to do for fun The city of Eugene is full of outdoor activities. There is an outdoor program on campus that is always offering outdoor trips for students. If you want some alone time, a nice bike ride through the green scenery never disappoints. But if you aren't an outdoorsy person there is plenty of athletic activities on campus along with extra curricular activities and volunteering.
Food and Dining With the new addition of the Global Scholars Hall dining, the University has continued to bring the students a wide range of food choices. You can enjoy anything from sushi to pizza in one of the many campus dining's. And if you're ever in dire need of your favorite Ben and Jerry's, then just stop by one of the campus markets.
Dorm Life The dorm life here at the University of Oregon is as good as it gets. Often times you'll here upperclassmen say that the wish they still lived in a dorm and that dorm life was their best experience. You and both your roommate and dorm mates will most likely stay in contact throughout college and maybe even after. It's something everyone should experience and it's your first real taste of living on your own.
Academic Rigor Just because the university isn't named Harvard, don't let that fool you. The University of Oregon is far different from high school. The courses here challenge students to put their minds to good academic use and prepare you for the real world. For example, in a BA 101 course, the professor has his students run their own company. The University of Oregon is also where the two co-founders of a little company named Nike attended. With this, opened up a new and rare major called Sports Marketing. A Students are put into new rigorous academic surroundings. But don't fear, if there are ever troubles, there are tutors in every subject, FOR FREE.
Tips for prospective students While attending the University of Oregon you will have classes with around 30 people, you will also have those giant lectures with hundreds of other students. While this may frighten some, the professors are very good at teaching the course as if there were only 20 students there. It is very important to sit in front, always read ahead in your free time, and take advantage of professors' office hours.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is an inviting and diverse community where there is always something to do. Located in the greens of Eugene Oregon, the environment here has much to offer such as hikes, water rafting, and even snowboarding and skiing in the winter. The University of Oregon never disappoints between its' academic offers, extra curricular activities, and how can we forget the Division I athletics.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have not personally had any altercations or incidences thus far, but there is a department of public safety on campus, a service called safe ride, which is part of student fees, that will pick you up from wherever you are at if you feel unsafe either by threat or intoxication and run by students, and safety buttons all over campus that when you hit them, send police to the scene immediately. There constantly are police officers and campus security roaming who tend to be pretty strict about safety.
Greek Life HUGE here. Probably somewhere between 60% and 80% of students are a part of the greek system.
Clubs and Activities There is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Adventurous and open minded students who like to be challenged and stay busy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Undead Oregon, a humans vs. zombies game played for a few weeks involving nerf guns and free play outdoors which also raises money for Red Cross.
Bang for the buck It is a very expensive school, and there are places, such as housing, where more money could be put to use. But this area is beautiful and there are plenty of services that the extraordinary fees pay for. This is a complete college town so people are very friendly and welcoming to students and it's very exciting being in such a prideful area. Citizens around are also pretty interesting, you could definitely call Eugene a hippy town.
What to do for fun Saturday Market, Rec Center, sand volleyball pit, hiking, late night walks, campus events, football tailgating, viewing parties for those who don't get lottery tickets to the games, various sporting events on campus, intramural sports, club sports, a variety of clubs.
Food and Dining Big Mouth Burrito, Carson Dining Hall and the brand new Global Scholars Hall are my favorites. Dux bistro is convenient, being in the middle of campus, but the food is not great. The smoothies are terrible there. I would definitely recommend the tortilla salad at Big Mouth and Carson has fantastic buffet options. Global Scholars Hall offers unique and pretty decent food options, including soups of different kinds, a pasta bar, sushi bar and rice bowls of different varieties.
Dorm Life Each hall varies. They are actually decent sized dorms, for a standard double, just very, very expensive.
Academic Rigor There is a wide variety of course options, including very unique classes such as evolutionary medicine, a class only offered in a few campuses nationwide. The material in every class is challenging and fast paced. I would recommend some sort of AP or community college mixture in order to be well-adjusted to university level course work.
Tips for prospective students Complete your FAFSA on time, otherwise your financial aid options are very scarce. Join a FIG, it's a really great way to meet people and create connections with professors as well as upperclassmen.
In three sentences Big, beautiful, busy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are so many programs here to keep you safe, including Safe Ride, a shuttle bus that takes you safely home, and these emergency buttons located all over campus.
Greek Life Lots of sororities here, who throw great parties. Not much of the campus is involved with one though.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs here, over 100. You might have to dig around to find the smaller ones, but they're there. Try the Holton Leadership center if you want to find the right club.
Great for these types of students Liberal Arts majors as well as middle class Caucasians. For those looking for a more diverse campus, this may not be the school for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It's all about Football here. Everywhere you go, you'll see our mascot. Go Ducks!
Bang for the buck It's definitely cheaper here then most other places, though this is more of a liberal arts focused school.
What to do for fun There are so many ways to get involved here. Look at the postings for fun events you can go to, or talk to people and get updated on events through word of mouth.
Food and Dining If you're into American food, this place is for you. Lots of good food on campus. If you're like me, who needs more authentic food of a certain cuisine, you can try off-campus.
Dorm Life If you're a social person, you'll fit right in here. There are many friendly faces eager to talk to someone. Some of the rooms may be small, but they are full of wonderful people. Be aware though, that this isn't the most culturally diverse campus.
Academic Rigor It all depends on what you're taking, though most classes are pretty rigorous. Stay on top of things though, go to office hours and you'll be fine.
Tips for prospective students University of Oregon is a good school. Apply to as much scholarships as you can. If this is your dream school, go for it. College isn't just about maximizing your wages, it is about maximizing your perspective.
In three sentences Eugene is a college town, and a very lovely one at that. There are many high achievers here. It is less diverse than I thought it would be though.

It is a house where the people living there do not pay rent, but instead contribute to the up keep and running of the house. Awesome place to check out even if you dont want to live there they have diverse events at the house.
Bang for the buck The University of Oregon is not just a college. It is a family or better yet a culture. Once you are a duck your always a duck. Truly a great way to complete your college education and meat new connections that will most likely help you in your future career.
What to do for fun There are games at autzen and mathew night arena that are life changing. Pretty much there is a social group or event for whatever you like to do for fun.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I stay updated with the University's email system whenever a crime is reported. It provides details like where it happened, when, and what went down. Eugene is pretty safe anyway.
Food and Dining There are great restaurants all around campus, and cheap food carts for meals on the go. If you get sick of the restaurants, you can take the EMX and go downtown, it's just a few minutes away!
Dorm Life I've heard the dorms are alright, but I live at home.
Academic Rigor I'm taking a class along with my high school courses, and it keeps me occupied and challenged.
Tips for prospective students Get organized before it's too late.

Great for these types of students Students who are interested in an on campus experience, dorm life, fraternities or sororities, and clubs. There are a lot of great cafes, coffee shops, and campus isn't too far from malls, stores, etc.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun, you can go hiking in the mountains, hang out in town, and be a part of many activities provided by the school.
Tips for prospective students Since I am a prospective student I am not the best person to give advice, but I can say that this school would push students to their best abilities and open their minds to many new experiences.
In three sentences University Of Oregon seems to be the perfect school for a great education and a great opportunity for an outdoors life. The teachers focus on the students for the best opportunities for success and the school is filled with many activities to better one self. Lastly, this school is a great community where a person can really learn who they are and what they truly want to do with their lives.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I haven't had any bad experiences with safety, but they send out a campus alert via email informing students about any crimes that occur.
Greek Life I love the Greek system! Don't listen to all the house stereotypes when rushing. Trust the rush system because you will truly end up in a house that fits you perfectly, even if you had doubts about it before.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs to join on campus. There is a club for everyone.
Great for these types of students All types of students! It is not very diverse race-wise, but I love it here and they are working on changing it. It is a pretty liberal school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Look for this spot will change your life (8th and Oak)!
Bang for the buck This school is definitely worth paying the crazy out-of-state tuition. There is a lot of school pride. The campus is beautiful. Public transit makes it easy to get everywhere.
What to do for fun There is always something to do here. There are endless parties. There are a few malls a short bus ride away. You could grab food with friends or go see a movie.
Food and Dining It is as good as dorm food can get! Whether it's a burrito from Big Mouth, sushi from GSH, or taking the bus to get Barnhart Brunch, there is always something good to eat. There is a great variety of food and if you get tired of dorm food, there are tons of restaurants right off campus. The school also offers many vegetarian options.
Dorm Life Dorm life is so fun! You meet amazing people and make really close friends. I would recommend keeping your door open, especially the first few days. You make a lot of friends this way. My whole dorm is super close. We all go out to eat, hang out, and party together.
Academic Rigor Academics are at a great level. Class difficulty depends on your major and the professor.
Tips for prospective students Start looking for scholarships early, especially if you are out of state.
In three sentences University of Oregon is the best decision I have ever made. I am so happy to be here, even if I'm going to be in a huge amount of debt after college. This school is truly amazing.

Food and Dining Food is very expensive! It's very good, but high in calories as well...
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms, but you have to be able to live closely with a stranger it seems!
Academic Rigor The teachers are just like high school teachers, the students who succeed are the ones who study hard.
Tips for prospective students Study hard! Don't slack off! Do take notes!
In three sentences Tuition costs are too high. The teachers do not teach well. I love the environment and how my friends are there, but I do not party!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I don't know this much, but it seemed like there was enough safety but obviously not cops on every corner?
Clubs and Activities There was SO much going on! something for everyone, and lots of opportunity to get involved.
Bang for the buck Right now I'm trying to gather the remaining funds to be able to attend this school, and so far so good, but it's a bit pricey as an out of state student, and unfortunately California and Oregon don't abide by the Western Union Exchange together.
Food and Dining There were SO many options around the campus and the town of Eugene.
Dorm Life The only thing I wasn't fond of when I visited was how small some of the dorms were. But oh well, I guess that's college for you.
Academic Rigor the students i spoke with during the visit all agreed that it was a manageable amount of work, challenging but it didn't cause them to want to rip their hair out because it was so tough.
Tips for prospective students Well I guess apply early, write a solid essay and keep up your GPA and SAT scores! :)
In three sentences I toured the campus this summer during July, and absolutely fell IN LOVE with this school. The school spirit, the excessive friendliness emanating from people on every corner, how much there was to do and get involved in and the academic rigor they portrayed. Also, the campus is absolutely beautiful, and there seems like something to do for everyone, and there's no one specific stereotype at the U of O.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is a lot of great hiking trails and nature areas to see. There is also a pretty good night life on campus. If you are really into going to shows and concerts, it's not the best city because we don't have an arena or anything for it so generally if you want to go to a show, you have to go to Portland. Which is a hassle.
Food and Dining I don't dine on campus because I don't have a meal plan. I pick up a delicious scone every once in a while though.
Dorm Life I have not lived in a dorm so I am unsure of the experience although I have heard some horror stories. I have also heard that the dorm experience is really nice for a lot of reasons.
Tips for prospective students 1. Be sure that a big University is right for you. 2. Don't be afraid to contact your professors outside of class. They like to see the effort and it's also really helpful.
In three sentences University is a large university with a large student body. There is a lot of diversity and a lot of amazing programs to get involved with. The University of Oregon staff are helpful and knowledgeable.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My favorite place on campus is the Urban Farm! Everyone should be required to take the Urban Farm class as a general education requirement. I love to see people learn where their food comes from and afterwards you could go get a plot at the campus community gardens and enjoy fresh foods during the school year that you grew yourself!
Bang for the buck The University of Oregon is a great school and most of the professors are great. However, the tuition has been increasing steadily over the years, but there are also student groups who are banding together to minimize the tuition increases. Get involved!
What to do for fun If you're over 21, there are a couple bars near campus. If not, there are two malls in the area that are easily accessible by the bus system. There are also community gardens on campus where you can go and learn to grow your own food!
Food and Dining The food offered by the dinning department is significantly better than I would have imagined. I especially enjoyed many meals at Fire'N Spice in the Hamilton complex.
Dorm Life When I lived in the dorms, I was surprised how enjoyable my experiences were. The dorms I was in were clean and managed well. My RA's were pleasant and helpful.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of the University of Oregon has a lot to do with what you're studying. Music, Architecture, Law and such are all highly rigorous majors, but others not so much.
Tips for prospective students Search for book buying alternatives to the DuckStore. There are many including Half.com, Smith Family Book Store (one downtown and one just off of campus), as well as e-books. It will definitely save you money, especially when some course books are over $100 a piece. If you do have to go to the DuckStore for your books, there is now an option on some books to rent them for the term and it's usually cheaper than buying the book. Look around and make an informed decision.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is a diverse place with lots of opportunities to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities. Campus is surrounded by wonderful places to eat and the bus system can get you almost anywhere you would like to go in the area. It is a beautiful campus and has a lot to offer.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is fairly safe. As a resident assistant, I know what goes on inside residence halls and I also work with the UO Police Department when necessary. They do anything to keep these premises safe, and people watch out for each other. They have escort services that provide transportation during the dark to and from all kinds of places on and around campus. I just advise not to be out on weekends, or any day around midnight when most people come back from parties, because alcohol is probably the one only big problem we have at this university. Most crimes are alcohol related, in my opinion.
Greek Life There is definitely a fairly high presence of Greek Life and some traditions. Unfortunately, I'm not part of Greek Life here, so I can't tell too much about that.
Clubs and Activities The university has so many clubs and activities that I cannot stop thinking about what all I still wish to do before I graduate.
Great for these types of students This university is especially great for hard-working, ambitious, open-minded, athletic students who don't mind that it rains much during the year.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Sometimes, people go on campus and try to publicly make their opinions known. For example, street preachers would stand at various corners and insult any non-religious, or especially non-christian people. As a very liberal town, though, you will find many arguments taking place on campus about controversial issues, which is usually a great opportunity for everybody to broaden their horizon. Oh, and there is also some weird guy who often bikes through campus at least half-naked and loudly curses out about the bad public transportation company in Eugene, supposedly, because he got thrown off many years ago and he couldn't understand why that was. Anyway, I think I've seen him once in one year.
Bang for the buck The university can be expensive to many students, but on the other hand, there are many scholarships and loans offered through the institution or community. If you work hard and are ambitious, then you will definitely get support.
What to do for fun Eugene as a city is a good place for people who like the outdoors. Many people run and bike down the trails. A lot of students also hike places such as Spencers Butte from where you can have a nice view over Eugene, OR. Others, like me, just relax in the parks during the summer. As I said, the UO offers so many resources that I can hardly summarize all the things you can do here. Trust me, I can't think of anything you CAN'T do.
Food and Dining The university offers various dining options that include every single major culture. Meals are priced very fair. We have buffet styles, grab'n'go options and served meals. The new Global Scholars Hall also houses the new dining facility, the Fresh Marketcafe, which offers a pasta bar, coffee bar, rice bar, sushi bar, and grab'n'go options.
Dorm Life I currently live on campus and also serve as a resident assistant. The campus is usually safe and the residence halls provide so many activities and resources to either get involved in fun activities or find peace to study.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the academic rigor can be very high or rather medium. I am enrolled in the college of business and I can definitely confirm that it is fairly difficult to succeed. Nevertheless, I learned a great amount of information and receive much support from every faculty member in the college.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely advise every student to get involved in clubs and other networking opportunities as soon as they get here. Making friends will be much easier and college life will be much more fun. Also, always use professors and librarians as a resource for academic projects. They are very knowledgeable and supportive.
In three sentences This institution offers so many resources that no student should ever feel like there is nothing to do for them. There are many opportunities to get involved in community activities, research, cultural immersion programs, academic studies, and outdoor fun. At this mid-sized university, students come from various states and act very supportive of each other at most times.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The University does a relatively good job with ensuring Campus Safety. The security department will email 'Crime Alerts' when an incident has been reported. There are patrol cars that circle the campus periodically and there is a police station very close to the campus.
Bang for the buck Paying Out-of-State tuition is extremely higher than In-State. Since the education and classes are the same as those paying In-State, being Out-of-State does not give me a lot of 'bang for the buck'.
What to do for fun Not much that I can find. There are local biking and hiking trails and there are usually UO Sports events to attend. Other than that, I haven't found any yet.
Food and Dining If one has the meal-plan, which is only available to those living on campus, dining is appropriate but not great. As a non-residential student, the food and dining options are very expensive. Aside from the chain restaurants with fixed pricing, other dining venues can be rather pricey. There are many international restaurants on and off campus giving it a relatively good variety.
Dorm Life I do not live in on campus but the free bus system makes commuting to other localities easy. UO recently added new dorms, called the Global Scholars Hall. Though I feel that the dorm room size is small, others find it acceptable.
Academic Rigor Though I have not faced any academic challenges, I have observed those who have.
Tips for prospective students Have exceptional High School grades. I highly recommend Dual-Enrolling while in High School as it makes the transition easier. Also, accumulate as much financial aid as possible, especially for those attending Out-of-State.
In three sentences UO is a well recognized PAC-12 College both Academically and Athletically. It has a great variety of academic programs and diverse course options. There are also many opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities.

Categories Comments Greek Life There is a well organized Greek system at Oregon, but you do not have to be involved with Greek life to have fun at Oregon.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A freshman staple at Oregon is definitely Common Grounds Cafe. Its open until 2am, and has great sandwiches, coffee, and smoothies!
Bang for the buck You get a lot out of what you pay for; whether that be in academics, sports, or dorm life.
What to do for fun There is always something happening on or around campus. Sporting events are a constant presence in the student life, and downtown is only a few blocks away. There's also two malls, and the bus is free for students.
Food and Dining The dorm food selection is incredible! I haven't tried everything yet, and I haven't gotten sick of dorm food either. Its nice to not have to make your own meals, and there are plenty of options. There's a deli, sushi, pasta, soup, salads, sandwiches, burritos, a place like Mongolian Grill, and more.
Dorm Life My dorm is the best! All of the girls in my hall are nice and friendly, we all love to hang out and our doors are always open. Every girl in my hall is there for me, whether I need help with school or anything else.
Academic Rigor If you are looking for a challenge, make sure to choose upper-level classes like I did. I had homework almost every night, and I was very homework oriented.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you can handle some rain! Eugene is awesome, but it does rain a lot. Also, be careful with what level classes you are choosing because it can be overwhelming the first term.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is set in the heart of Eugene. The campus is beautiful and the professors are knowledgeable and friendly. I am happy that I chose to go to Oregon, and it is the best fit for me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a very large number of Department of Public Safety officers on campus, sometimes an overbearing number. Overall with so many officers it makes our campus a safe one.
Greek Life Greek Life although small, is exceptional on campus. I am the president of one of the fraternities on campus, and cannot be more proud of our community. We all have a lot of fun and we make a positive impact on our community. Our goal on campus is to make the great men and women who join our organizations better, and prepare them for the rest of their lives.
Bang for the buck If you are an in-state student, this is totally worth it. If you are an out of state student it is quite expensive to go here. I am an out of state student but I will never regret my decision, what you get out of the university of Oregon is priceless.
What to do for fun The social atmosphere at the university is different. Here Greek Life is a very small percentage of the school. As a proud member of Greek Life, the social scene is fantastic, there is always something to do, and as a community we do a lot together. For those not interested in the Greek system, besides the constant parties there are to attend, the athletics here are the most fun you will ever have.
Food and Dining The dorm food at the University of Oregon is amazing, there is such a variety of choices, it is difficult to ever get tired of the food.
Dorm Life Dorm life will be the a must have memorable experience as a college freshman. Something everyone should experience.
Academic Rigor With a pressuring college atmosphere begging you to have a amazing social life, academics are difficult to keep up.
Tips for prospective students Please make the university of Oregon your top choice. As fun as it can be never lose track of your academics and your time here will be the best years of your life.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There are lots of clubs and activities to get involved it. Personally I joined an intermural volleyball team with my friends and had a blast! We never won a game but we had so much fun it didn't matter.
Great for these types of students The u of o is a great fit for students who like big campuses and a relaxed way of living. Eugene is known for its hippies and hipsters, and it never disappoints.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a statute of a pioneer woman and during finals week people all past her and touch her for good luck.
What to do for fun For fun in Eugene there are so many options. Anything from late night voodoo donut runs to hiking Spencer's butte. There's always a new adventure to go on.
Food and Dining Food and dining on campus isn't a major part of my college career. I eat in the emu occasionally and the food is just great.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome! Or so I've heard. I actually lived off campus my first year. However my best friend lived in the dorms and she loved it! She met some of her best friends there and wouldn't change her experience for the world.
Academic Rigor The u of o can be very academically challenging. Not only do the professors except a lot out of their students, the large class sizes can make class difficult as well. But it's worth the stress, the classes are great.
Tips for prospective students If you're a student looking to come to the u of o, make sure you don't mind large classes. If you hate the rain, maybe think twice before you buy your umbrella. But if you love football you're in the right place!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Eugene police keeps everyone aware of what has happened and how to prevent certain situations from happening again.
Greek Life Greek Life is well rounded, not your stereotypical Greek life. Other things aside from partying are actually taken very serious; such as grades, community service, and reputation.
Bang for the buck Pricing is fair enough for the education and experience. Eugene definitely makes you feel at home due to the friendliness. Also, great school spirit, makes you want to be a proud duck.
What to do for fun Eugene does not have many fun activities; however the university has many fun events. Such as sporting events, especially football and track, movies are really cheap. There are tons of outdoor activities, such as snowboarding in the winter, beaches in the summer, and a lot of other outdoor activities.
Food and Dining Food gets repetitive, however there are various options. Every now and then food is terrible, but luckily there is a market that accepts dorm points. Overall, food and dining is acceptable.
Dorm Life Dorm life is acceptable; nice rooms and fair pricing. Management is prompt with any issues involving maintenance or any other concerns. Roommates and hall mates are very polite and friendly.
Academic Rigor Classes are usually never hard to get, there is sufficient sections to fulfill all the students needs. Classes are not crowded, professors are very engaging. There is a huge selection of classes, plenty of classes to choose from.
Tips for prospective students A rain jacket is strongly suggested; you learn to love the rain. The University of Oregon has an amazing library great for studying; use it. Autzen stadium is an unforgettable experience, make sure to attend at least one football game.

Dorm Life You meet a lot of new people in the dorms. There are some newer dorms that are really awesome while there are some dorms that are fairly old. The older dorms are fairly small so don't bring too much.
Academic Rigor This is a research university so not only are the professors teaching but they are doing their own research. They go in depth with their subject and want you to absorb as much of it as humanly possible. Be prepared to study and learn good time management.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of campus. Invest in a good raincoat and a pair of rainboots. (It rains a lot here). If you are use to a lot of sun, take vitamin D here during the winter months. Live on campus, close to campus or somewhere close to a busline. Also learn good time management skills so that you can get your work done and have fun.
In three sentences It's a great school! There are so many different majors and subjects to choose from. Also the campus is beautiful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for athletic students.
What to do for fun Sporting events are always a great social experience as a Duck: football, basketball, and soccer to name a few.
Food and Dining There are many many many options to eat on campus. Hamilton is one of the best places to eat, especially Big Mouth which makes killer burritos. Global Scholars Hall has good rice bowls and pasta options. There are plenty of options right off campus as well. For breakfast I recommend Glenwood.
Dorm Life I'm living in the new residence hall: Global Scholar's Hall. It is very nice and comfortable but more of a quiet complex. There are dorms on campus that are not as new but doors are open and a better social atmosphere.
Academic Rigor I'm in the honors college so my classes are challenging yes but it's not a miserable experience and completely doable if you manage your time right. I spend a good time writing essays and studying but I also have lots of free time.
Tips for prospective students Overall the university is big enough and has enough opportunities that the experience is what you make it. There are so many types of people although it does take some work to make connections. It is helpful to make connections with older students and get their opinions on potential professors.
In three sentences The University of Oregon has many opportunities and there is something for everyone is you're willing to seek it out. There is somewhat of a stigma involving the large student-athlete population on campus, many of which are notorious for less than desirable behavior. Professors on the whole are interesting and classes are not necessarily hard core.

Categories Comments Greek Life I am not involved in Greek life, and did not feel pressured into it. There are options for people who want to be involved in Greek life and those who do not. I have many friends involved in Greek life here and they love it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you visit Eugene, try to eat at the following places: -Papa's Soul Food -The Glenwood -Sweetlife -Voodoo Donuts
What to do for fun There are concerts constantly happening at multiple venues around the city if you are into music. There are also beautiful hiking and biking trails close to campus as well as in driving distance if you enjoy the outdoors. The coast is only an hour and a half away if you find a friend with a car freshman year. And of course, the parties. There is always something going on every night of the week if you know the right people!
Food and Dining As a freshman I never got tired of the food. As an upper classman, I am always trying to find freshmen to treat me to the dorm food with their points. I miss it so much!
Dorm Life The food is SO GOOD! My roommate and I became best friends freshman year and are still very close to this day. I still miss the dorms because it was basically living with your best friends- and someone was always home. Your room will be what you make of it- there are larger more modern dorms, but even the older smaller rooms have their own charm and feeling of comfort. My dorm felt like my home freshman year.
Academic Rigor You can choose your own path here. Some majors and programs are much more challenging than others- and there is always the option to add more majors or minors. For especially academic-oriented students, the Clark Honors College will be a great opportunity for you.
Tips for prospective students 1) Make sure to apply for housing as soon as possible- the same time as your application. 2) Come hungry freshman year because the dorm food here is so varied and delicious! 3) Join activities, clubs, intramural sports, Greek life, etc. your freshman year and meet as many people as you can!
In three sentences The University of Oregon is a thing of beauty in any season, the brick buildings framed by orange and red trees in the fall, snow in the winter, and vibrant flowers in the spring make every walk to class enjoyable. The students here are so friendly, spirited, and happy to be attending such a desirable institution. Every time I come back to Eugene after a holiday break I can feel the energy of campus surge through me just as it does during our sold out football games, street festivals, and outdoor concerts; I love this school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt safe on campus. On campus, there are security poles that get you an emergency response or a campus escort. Off campus, there are police patrol cars and neighbors that place calls if something gets out of hand. It's a supportive community.
Greek Life Sororities and Fraternities abound. They put on philanthropic events. You don't have to join but there are a variety of organizations to look into.
Clubs and Activities There are student clubs and weekend events to participate in if you have the time. For the studious ones, there are study groups and great campus buildings to meet in to get the projects/presentations done.
Great for these types of students There are lots of opportunities for all types of students here. From athletes to scientists studying volcanology to environmental science and architects, this is a great place to be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This is the home of the acclaimed, Animal House movie! This is an athletic school, the home of Nike, the home of the Autzen football stadium where the entire community of Eugene comes to root for the home team.
Bang for the buck You can count on getting your classes here! The campus is beautifully landscaped and the off campus rental units are great. Biking is a plus. You don't really need a car here if you are into public transportation.
What to do for fun Make friends with classmates, attend EMU functions, join a campus club, bike and hike, go to the rec center, go to football and basketball games.
Food and Dining The dorm food gets old but there are market type locations where you can use your points to purchase items. Off campus eateries are nearby and are reasonably priced.
Dorm Life I spent my frosh year in the dorms and made great friends. I was on an all girl floor and felt the camaraderie. We had floor meetings and events to build on the social relationships.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Could be improved.
Clubs and Activities Rotaract.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We're the Ducks. Need I say more?
Bang for the buck Expensive, but worth it.
What to do for fun Fun? Haven't had much time for that. However, I live walking distance from the Matthew Knight Center where lots of sporting events occur--basketball, volleyball, etc.--and other events. Visiting with friends in the common areas is always fun. Visits from family are great. TV and movie watching are favorite pass times when I need to relax. I know there must be fun things to do around here. I just haven't had time to discovery them.
Food and Dining Lots of great choices for food, on campus and near campus. Healthy food, gluton-free, vegan, and meat. Fast food within walking distance. Little Big Burgers, Subway, Wendy's, etc. There are also a couple of nice restaurants--a brew house, Chinese, etc. Lots of pizza places to chose from--carry out or delivery. Via car or bus, there are lots and lots of great places to eat all over Eugene.
Dorm Life I live in the Grad Village. It's a quiet place for students who want to focus on their education. Each of the rooms are designed for single living. I have a one-bedroom, but there are also studios available. It's a nice space. I pay $635 a month. Utilities run about $35 a month. Internet is included. Laundry facilities are on-site. 75 cents per wash or dry.
Academic Rigor Grad students are expected to read large volumes of information--all interesting and relevant, but lots of it. Write several papers for each class, including in-text citations and bibliographical information. Most papers also require additional research. Grading is fair as long as you do the work. Attendance is also a big thing. Lots of role playing, so you have to be there.
Tips for prospective students Parking is expensive and a pain inthe butt. However, I have heard that some university's are even worse. There are parking lots all over campus. They each have their own number and who is allowed to park there and when. If you mess up or forget to display your permit, you'll get a ticket. If you don't park head in, you'll get a warning and then a ticket. Good news is, there is plenty of parking.
In three sentences Loving my experience in the Conflict and Dispute Resolution Master's Program. Lots of amazing on-the-ground experience by excellent instructors. Planning my internship to Northern Ireland this summer.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a top priority for the campus. They give free self defense classes for women, have emergency buttons throughout campus, have a 24/hour campus security, and SafeRide gives rides to students and staff anywhere within a 3 mile radius of campus at night time so no one has to walk alone at night.
Clubs and Activities There is a club, sport, social gathering, etc for almost everyone. Ranging from Mock Trial, to the sailing team, to even LARPing (Live action role playing).
Great for these types of students Everyone is welcome, accepted, and there is something for all types of people.
Bang for the buck There are plenty of free things to do in Eugene and the college even hands out a list of free things in the city during Introducktion. Also, the campus has a free shuttle system for students after dark called SafeRide and a Designated Driver service for students.
What to do for fun Eugene is thriving. There is something to do for all lifestyles; if you like the outdoors there is a zip lining tour in Spencer's butte and a rock climbing cove in Skinner's butte. There is also tons of bike paths, places to camp, and you are only 30 minutes from 2 lakes. For the gamer there are a few barcades in the city (bar+arcade) plus the campus hosts Ducks After Dark where they rotate games and movies on Thursdays. For those who like the social life there are plenty of restaurants that host theme nights. For example there is taco Tuesdays at Agate Alley Bistro on Campus and 80's night at John Henry's bar downtown.
Food and Dining The food is GREAT. Fire and spice in Hamilton is just like a traditional Mongolian grill and the cafe next door make AMAZING patty melts. Right across the street in DUX Bistro are delicious soup and pasta bowls. They also make deli sandwiches, burritos, and have a hot food bar in the mini mart under Hamilton. If you get sick of campus food within blocks are Wendys, Market of Choice, The Bridge, Track Town Pizza, 7/11, Agate Alley Bistro (Taco Tuesdays and drink wheel Thursdays!!), Prince Pucklers ice cream, and much more!
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms, but when I visited my friends they always were having fun and said it was the dorm life that got them more involved and kept them updated on campus activities.
Academic Rigor The challenge is part the classes you pick and part how much you put into them. I found the most challenging classes were the ones I enjoyed the most and remembered afterwords. Also, don't think challenging or rigor is a dirty word because you can pick the challenges you undertake.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to take part in all the activities that the college had to offer; from ice cream socials to zombie killing games between classes. Also, make sure you know which of the older buildings have Ac, it can get pretty hot in some building spring term.
In three sentences U of O had an amazing atmosphere where the students and the staff are polite and welcoming. The campus is gorgeous and the variety of classes could please even the most undecided student.

Dorm Life It really depends on the building you live in. I lived in one of the newer dorms and it was very pleasant! i met so many different people and made a bunch of new friends.
Academic Rigor I took 18 credits my winter term of freshman year and it was challenging to get everything done on time and also it was hard to give my 110%. Other than that, I still managed to get good grades.
Tips for prospective students If you think you aren't smart enough or can't afford it you wrong! Whether is a community college or a university, there will always be people around to help you do your best! College isn't cheap, I DEEPLY encourage you to look for as many scholarships as humanly possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have campus police who patrol the campus all day and night. There are also emergency stations posted throughout campus which, upon the touch of a button, signal emergency services to your location. There's also a great program called saferide which is a van service that will take students throughout the town any time after dark. There's also a DDS shuttle which is available until 3am every morning to prevent drunk driving.
Greek Life Greek life is alive at the U of O. I'm rushing soon, and greek letters can always be seen on campus!
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of awesome clubs and getting involved isn't too difficult.
Great for these types of students 1) Outdoorsy 2) Athletic 3) People who like to party 4) People who are open-minded/ liberally minded 5) People who like to help out in the local community
Bang for the buck Education is verrryyy expensive, but a lot of profs at UO are really helpful and understanding about this. I feel like they truly care about the students' education and want to help us out.
What to do for fun There are a lot of amazing hiking spots here! There are also hot springs which are really amazing. Eugene is great because it's a city but there are a lot of places to escape when the hustle and bustle becomes too much to handle.
Food and Dining Eugene has a lot of really unique food places! Voodoo doughnuts and DoughCo are trademarks, but there are a lot of other cute little places. Also, being vegetarian/vegan is super easy here because there are a ton of options! Healthful options are plentiful here :)
Dorm Life Some of the dorms are really old and people get crazy. I've never lived in the dorms, but from what I've heard, they're not too horrible. Most people say they are great for a year, but not somewhere to stay for any longer than that. Dorm food is really great though!
Academic Rigor The profs are really accessible, and are generally friendly. Courses aren't too difficult if you put in the time and effort to do well. GTFs are a great resource!
Tips for prospective students It's a really big school, so there are a lot of opportunities to get involved! However, this being said, nobody holds your hand anymore; if you want to join a club, you have to take the initiative and find all of the information you'll need. It's also a really big drinking/partying school, so it's really easy to lose control of yourself.
In three sentences University of Oregon is a great school! The liberal environment is very refreshing and allows one to completely be themselves without the fear of being judged! The track town is a great place to live.

Tips for prospective students Be prepared for a very Liberal education. Many professors are very willing to help if you seek their advice. Carry an umbrella always!
In three sentences The University of Oregon has given a positive college experience in my 3.5 years here. Categories Comments Campus Safety As one can predict with a college town, there is some crime. There is an email system which informs you if there is anything to be concerned about which involves suggestions on how to handle such problems. While walking on campus, I have always felt safe. The only issue that I worry about is getting a bike/ bike parts stolen or having a car broken into.
Greek Life Greek life is more prominent on campus than I would have thought since I transferred from Auburn University in Alabama; however, many of the people I have met are involved in Greek Life in some fashion. I am not personally involved, but those who I have talked about the organization with have said that they enjoy it.
Clubs and Activities The number of clubs and activities may seem overwhelming at first but are fairly well advertised throughout each of the buildings around campus, especially in dorm buildings. There is pretty much any group that you could imagine available and more.
Great for these types of students Students with an open mind and have largely liberal views. It has a diverse student body with international students and students with clear social views. It is a campus for political movements. Students that are alright with going to professors with questions will benefit. It is a large campus and students have to work to get to know professors more than some other schools.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are benches covering the U of O campus which are really nice when the sun comes out and the weather is temperate.
Bang for the buck On-campus there is always construction going on to make buildings nicer and there is a lot of money put into things that students want such as a lottery for football tickets and concerts that come on to campus. For a state school, there are also lots of small groups to get involved with.
What to do for fun There are many different options for entertainment in Eugene and on-campus. From hiking and parks to Autzen and Hayward Field, there is always something active to do. There are also things such as bowling allies, movie theaters, and shopping malls nearby.
Food and Dining There are many dining options that provide food for any type of diet. Dining areas provide options for gluten free, vegetarians, or people with other strict diets that are clearly labelled. Each of the meal plans offer enough food to last the week and then some. All of the dining buildings are delicious!
Dorm Life Each dorm on campus holds a different vibe which arguably stems from the age of each building. The newer dorms (Global Scholars Hall and LLC) tend to be very open and welcoming while the older dorms (Hamilton and Carson) tend to be quite a bit smaller and less social. The matching system for roommates is not very in-depth and does not always yield cohesive roommate situations.
Academic Rigor As with most schools, there are classes that will challenge you mentally while others tends to gravitate toward students with lower levels of effort. As long as you do the assigned readings and work, you should be able to pass without much issue.
Tips for prospective students The most important thing to keep in mind is to be open to new experiences and types of people. It is a very progressively viewed school that encourages creativity and unique thought.
In three sentences University of Oregon is a campus for diverse opportunities, opinions, and experiences. There are many different types of people in attendance that are willing to learn. Overall, it provides a well-rounded education that will become an advantage in the future.

Food and Dining The food is the best part of the college, they have 9 dining halls to choose from and the food is DELICIOUS. The freshman 15 is easy to gain if you're not careful or working out. They even have ice cream sundaes after dark!
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is a good or bad experience depending on how you look at it. The dorms are quiet and friendly and matched up by interests and groups. You can live in different genre of dorms like the technology hall, the art hall, or the quiet hall depending on your preference.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard but they're definitely worth it- you get what you pay for. The professors are always open to meeting with students to make sure they are understanding the materials and can set you up with a tutor. Study study study - the classes are alot easier if you know the material and are prepared for exams!
Tips for prospective students Get involved - it helps you make new friends, find out if you do or don't like something and it really takes the edge off of classes! Visit your professors office hours and introduce yourself; in a lecture of 300 students your professor isn't going to know who you are - saying hello makes a huge difference. Study for classes but remember to have fun.
In three sentences Very unique and has a vast array of clubs and activities for students with all different interests. Very diverse group of students and everyone is accepted. Great professors that are willing to meet and work with students during class and after to help them be the best they can be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is incredibly secure. You are almost always within seeing distance of a campus officer, unless you are going in between buildings, in which case you should not roam around any place in the world at night by yourself.
Greek Life It is there, and you will hear about it. Just like on every other state college campus, everyone is either in one, or knows someone that is. But it's not a bad thing, most of the stereotypes are wrong. Some of them, however, are not.
Clubs and Activities Countless number of activities for all students.
Great for these types of students Great for those looking into journalism and any type of social science major.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You have to go to Voodoo Donuts on Broadway. Also, avoid Common Grounds late on Thursday nights because it is the only place open and the freshmen are well...it's a Thursday night on a college campus.
Bang for the buck Very expensive for out of state students, with very little scholarships offered, no matter what GPA and extra curricular activities you had in high school.
What to do for fun There are so many activities to do in Eugene. If you like music, there is almost always a concert happening. If not, take a nice walk through the neighborhoods to the south of campus. Getting to the mall, movie theater, or laser tag facility are easy as well with the amazing bus system in Eugene.
Food and Dining Eat anywhere and everywhere. All of the dorm food locations offer a great variety and it is hard to get sick of it. Even after being away from the food for a certain amount of time, most of the students begin to miss it.
Dorm Life Do not expect equality when looking to attend this school. There will be people paying less than you but living in a nicer dorm just because there is an extra person in there room that is over twice the size of your own. The friendships built in the older dorms are much stronger, however the LLC and GSH offer far more academic resources to help those students succeed.
Academic Rigor Classes are difficult and can it can be a tad bit tedious to balance the workload; however, everything is possible here and once all of the work is completed, the knowledge gained is always worth the effort.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to come into this university ready to work hard. Classes are difficult but manageable. Also, try to get as involved as possible as early as possible because there are great clubs holding events constantly.
In three sentences The University of Oregon is a quality educational facility with a supportive group of professors who help guide students to a better future. Each student is given a great opportunity to excel in whatever subject they desire to pursue. One of the best educational experiences to be offered on the West Coast.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Sometimes it seems like the police are more involved in giving out MIP's than looking to prevent assaults and burglaries. However, on campus is pretty safe. They keep out all that have been banned from entering campus.
Greek Life The greek life seems to be a pretty big thing. Lots of people are involved in greek life.
Clubs and Activities There are lots. Some aren't as active as others but if thats the case then you can always start up a club of your own, or take over an old club that isn't as active as you'd hope.
Great for these types of students Great place for earthy, artsy individuals.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are local homeless individuals whom everyone knows fairly well. Such as, the LTD nut sack man, who screams around town in women's clothing, talking about his genitalia.
Bang for the buck I pay 43,000 a year for out of state. I have been having a hard time getting out of state scholarships as well.
What to do for fun Saturday Market downtown is great for some shopping and eating while watching locals of Eugene dance and have a good time. There are some nearby hikes that show the beautiful northwest forests.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good. I find myself tempted by yummy treats constantly.
Dorm Life Theres amazing brand new dorms like GSH, and then theres old smelly dorms like Bean. The lesser quality dorms however, tend to have a better community life.
Academic Rigor There are a good handful of instructors who fail to teach the important aspects of the subject correctly and to take up time with busy work that is irrelevant to the skills you are meant to pick up from the class.
Tips for prospective students Join a club or participate in some extracurricular activity. Keep yourself busy; the second you start getting lazy your grades drop dramatically. Get to know your professors.
In three sentences University of Oregon has many great resources for students, you just have to go out and look for them. I found it easy to get to know my professors and receive help from them. There are definitely better academic institutions out there to prepare you for graduate school or your future profession, but University of Oregon is pretty good.

Clubs and Activities There are so many to choose from.
Great for these types of students Students who want to seek out opportunities.
Bang for the buck The school has so many opportunities.

Food and Dining I never ate in the dining halls, but there are lots of food options.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms.
Tips for prospective students Get involved with extra curricular activities and get to know professors and faculty.

Categories Comments Campus Safety University of Oregon Police Department does a fabulous job of protecting students, staff and alumni from the dangers presented in Eugene such as gang activity, theft, sexual offenses, as well as medical complications.
Greek Life SO AMAZING. All of the fraternities and sororities are so friendly and inviting. Truly the face of University of Oregon, greek life has been a growing community on campus and it can only get better.
Clubs and Activities There are more clubs and activities than I am able to count. Anything that you could possibly want to be a part of has a group of people that have the same passions and fears that you share, and if there isn't an organization then there are hundreds of people willing to help you create something that serves the purpose you desire.
Great for these types of students Great for outgoing students looking for a community that really wants them to reach for the stars. Even if you are shy, students at University of Oregon do their best to make everyone feel welcome, appreciated and important. It's the best school for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have lots of unique events such as marathons on campus and the school spirit is huge. Clearly Hayward field is a huge asset.
Bang for the buck It is worth the money, obviously since we have such a huge out of state and international population.
What to do for fun Biking, hiking, swimming, dancing, sports, going out, greek life, the list is endless.
Food and Dining Food is much better than at other schools, we have many different dining places to choose from which is nice.
Dorm Life So amazing, you meet the greatest people and all of the dorms have great locations on campus (with the exception of Riley and Barnhart).
Academic Rigor It's quite difficult but there would be no purpose in coming to a school if it didn't push you.
Tips for prospective students Definitely visit the campus before you decide to come here, invest in a rain jacket, and use the resources they provide for you because there are SO MANY.
In three sentences University of Oregon is one of the most diverse schools ever. There are so many opportunities. I couldn't have picked a better school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never once have I felt endangered on campus, and I walked through the campus alone, at night, 20+ times last year. There's very little to worry about. Plus they have emergency call boxes all over, so you are never too far away from help if something were to go wrong.
Greek Life I am a Phi Psi at the university. Greek life is one of the easiest ways to get involved, because you will always have opportunities to do things within the Greek system. It's a really fun experience too.
Clubs and Activities Intermurals are fun, there's always something going on at the EMU. No shortage of stuff to do here.
Great for these types of students Students that are willing to work hard to differentiate themselves from everyone else will find it very easy to gain an advantage over the rest. There are a lot of people that are okay with being average, so if you aren't, you will excel at this university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The walk to Autzen is unmatched. Turning the corner and coming into sight of the glowing structure never fails to bring out the goose bumps.
Bang for the buck I thoroughly enjoyed my Freshman year, and I think it was worth every dollar spent.
What to do for fun Go to sporting events (football, basketball, baseball, etc.). The college has some of the most beautiful facilities in the nation, and they're all very special places to watch games at. The experiences in each of them are unmatched.
Food and Dining Soooo many choices. Hope you have your appetite upon arriving.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. The food is copious and the people are fantastic. There is a good chance you meet at least one person that you will be friends with the rest of your lives.
Academic Rigor Like any public college, there are hard classes, and there are ways to avoid taking these classes as well. It's all about how much you elect to challenge yourself.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Take advantage of opportunities. Don't go through the motions. Don't be satisfied.
In three sentences The U of O is one of the best campuses to be on during the fall. You get the feeling you are apart of a really special community and I feel lucky to be in the circle. They have a great academic system that is extremely efficient.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Oregon is an extremely safe campus, with emergency phones all over and its own police force. A designated driver system will send vans to pick up students who call and will bring them back to their dorm or apartment, no questions asked.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Autzen Stadium is pure magic. I can't really describe it in words. You just have to go. Maybe bring earplugs if it is your first time.
Bang for the buck I will be graduating without debt. You heard that right, zero debt. I was accepted into the University of Rochester and the University of British Columbia, but those schools, while considered more prestigious than Oregon, would have left me thousands of dollars in debt. At Oregon, a recognized school that perhaps isn't as prestigious as the aforementioned schools, I will receive an excellent education and enter the workforce without having to pay off loans. That is absolutely priceless.
What to do for fun We here at Oregon love sports and parties. There is always some sort of a sporting event going on, whether its football, basketball, baseball, or track. Furthermore, you can always plan on finding a social event every Friday and Saturday night. At the same time, the culture is very accepting and, and there are none of the alcohol or drug related deaths and injuries that plague other schools. But whatever you do, go to a football game. Autzen stadium on saturdays is unlike anything else you'll ever experience. Furthermore, we have an excellent student recreation center where you can work out in a full weight room, indoor track, and pool.
Food and Dining Really great food. There are plenty of dining areas where you can get anything from a burrito, to pasta, to a salad, to a buffet. There is something for everyone, and while it isn't mom's cooking, it gets the job done and tastes pretty good.
Dorm Life You have to live in the dorms. This is a social school, and meeting people is really important to make sure you are having fun and releasing the stress that is naturally brought about by college. The friends you make here will be some of the best you will ever have.
Academic Rigor As with any school, the you get out what you put in. This is a great school, but it isn't near the rigor of schools like MIT and Stanford. But, the pieces are here to create an absolutely devastating schedule that will make you work for your A. There are professors here with degrees from Caltech, MIT, Berkeley, and other academic giants. There is a good chance that you will know people who will breeze through this school, taking easy classes and still getting some sort of a degree. But if you have the initiative, Oregon can provide you with a quality education.
Tips for prospective students Get lots of yellow and green clothing, because this school makes every other school look like it doesn't have any spirit whatsoever. Go to the football games. Go to the concerts at the EMU. Join a research lab. Become a tutor. There are so many opportunities here, but it is up to you to find them.
In three sentences An amazing school with the perfect blend of academics, affordability, and fun. With amazing athletics and a great, accepting college community, there is plenty to do here when you aren't attending the interesting classes. To top it all off, for in-state students, the price is an absolute steal.
