Categories Comments Great for these types of students UPike is good for students planning to attend a religious school. Also, it is great for those who don't mind a large student body.
Bang for the buck There are many scholarships available to receive as well.
Am enjoying being here Pikeville isn't a very big town, so there's not a lot to do. However, there is always some kind of activity going on around campus that students can attend and be a part of.
Am learning a lot The teachers here care about their students and how they are doing academically. There is a small student:faculty ratio so if a student needs help, they can talk with a professor one-on-one to get the assistance they need.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are located on campus and do a very good job at keeping the students safe. All students are advised to put the campus security number in their phones. They are always on call and will always assist in an emergency or situation.
Greek Life This is newer to the campus, the students live in a dorm. We currently have two sororities and two fraternities. The students do various community service in the town and hold events on campus.
Clubs and Activities The school offers many different types of clubs, there are clubs connected to the type of major as well as clubs such as Sororities and Fraternities.
Great for these types of students For students from a small town, afraid to go to college for fear of being just a number in a class room. This school gives the students attention they need in order to acheive success.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Unusual to the town is Hillbilly Days. This is held every year for a weekend in April. People from all over Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia come to the streets of the town to enjoy food and company.
Bang for the buck There are many things to do around the town and on campus. It is a great experience for all aged students.
What to do for fun There is a bowling alley that the students like to go to. As well as a movie theater down town. There are many campus activities for students of all ages ranging from free bowling night to free movie night. There are also activities available on campus at set dates such as a street festival.
Food and Dining The school cafeteria has good hours available to the students. The staff working in the cafeteria do their best to make sure the students have a variety of choices. They offer fruits and vegetables, salad, pizza, and an entree.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is very convenient. The meals are covered in the cost and the dorms are near campus. The students are placed in the middle of campus life. They find true friends in roommates and can also participate in Greek life, housed on campus.
Academic Rigor The programs at the University offer a variety to students. The students can participate in science and medical fields, as well as, arts and music fields. This variety gives students the opportunity to try different fields to find one they truly love.
Tips for prospective students Come to the campus and see what it is about. The teachers and staff will be welcoming and will give any kind of advice necessary to help you make the best choice of college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security has two numbers. The station and the deputy's number. After a certain time, if you try to call the station you will be automatically directed to the deputy's cell phone!
Greek Life There isn't any well known greek life here because they students started their own fraternity's and sororities!
Clubs and Activities There are a few activities to get into. You just have to find them (look at the bulletin boards around the campus) or start your own!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the dorm buildings is haunted and the library is haunted. They also have a little grave yard near the library because when they first built the school they didn't want to disturb the graves that had been there for such a long time.
What to do for fun There isn't much to do here if you aren't an athlete or in some sort of program which is why making lots of friends here is a good thing. Welcome Week gives you something to do at the end of everyday the first week of school. After the first week, you pretty much have to entertain yourself. Still, the school advertises other things that you can do outside of school so you can have some fun.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good! They have a salad bar and a sandwich station that would make any athlete or dieter proud. They also have different meals and desserts everyday and every Wednesday, people from the area make home cooked meals and bring them to the school to help cure our homesickness. Last, but not least, everyone has the same meal plan! All you do is swipe your card and you walk in and eat all you want! There isn't any limit to how much you can eat. The only thing is after 8 p.m the cafe is closed and you have to feed yourself. Also, on weekends majority of the students go home and the cafe is only open from 9 or 10 am till 1 pm. So stocking up on snacks in your dorm is a must!
Dorm Life Living on campus is OK. Majority of the dorms come with a mini fridge already and all dorm halls have FREE wash and dry for laundry. Even more dorms have a vending machine filled with snacks or drinks on the first floor. Some dorm halls have either 6 people (girl dorms) or 8 people (boy dorms) but the lowest amount is 2 people (depending on what dorm you stay in.) Many of the dorms are pretty spacious but you still need lots of containers to hold your stuff because the closets are really small and the dressers (each person has their own) might not hold all of your belongings.
Academic Rigor Depending on what you major in, you will have either little amounts of homework with tests/quizzes/papers that cost you half of your grade. Or you will have lots of homework with tests/quizzes/papers that individually make up for your entire grade. Slack off wisely.
Tips for prospective students This is definitely a place where you need a car to get everywhere so try to make friends with people who have cars in case of an emergency. With the campus and student body being so small, sometimes there seems like there isn't anything to do. Therefore, be outgoing! This way even if there's nothing to do on campus you can always have fun with different students on campus. Another thing would be look into sports and other academic programs while you're here. They offer extra scholarship money, to those who qualify, for the sports and academic scholarships- not including the money they previously granted for your ACT and GPA.
In three sentences This university is great! People are very friendly and respectful here. Even with 100 kids in a lecture hall (the biggest class), teachers still go out of their way to learn your names. The campus is very quiet and the structure of the campus (carved in to a mountain!) is great for anyone who loves to or is trying to stay in shape.
