Greek Life about Greek life is not much to say
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and associations for the students is very good.
Great for these types of students For the type of students who study and have fun like it is the university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Perform many holiday traditions as the anniversary of the university, there's a Thanksgiving recess, perform a power on Christmas, make honor student activities and activities to recognize outstanding athletes, there are many activities, partnerships and there is also student societies.
Bang for the buck In terms of investment, can have an account at the bank branch is inside the university is very good and efficient.
What to do for fun Have a time for fun, you can make time for all to study and to have fun so if you have to do it with caution but there are a lot of fun.
Food and Dining As I understand the food you eat well, who does not eat is not hungry.
Dorm Life It is not easy but you can sleep. There are moments that almost no sleep because you have to study hard and if it's time more consecutive tests but other than that if you can sleep.
Academic Rigor It is not easy but it can, that college is not easy. But it is a university in which you can trust that you will be hard but you can pass, that prepares you for the better.
Tips for prospective students My tips for the future students is to apply the best university in Puerto Rico, a university is not easy but if you can. Why is the best university it can be, as it prepares students to be the best in all aspects professional grow as a person and mind. In order to learn a lot and also it is passed it is the best university

Categories Comments Campus Safety It has a dedicated systems of police guard that are always working for the student safety. They have escorting systems to maximize the student safety. In case of a mayor situation the estate police come to help.
Greek Life Is very presential and the majority are educated persons who stays firmly in their fundamentals way of life but accepts others opinions on things.
Clubs and Activities Are great! They are very spontaneous and some of it really help in the college development, academically and professionally.
Great for these types of students Students who are responsible and very social or have the potential to be very social.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the caribbean tradition of local music that is danceable.
Bang for the buck The tuition fee is the most inexpensive because is a public university. Nevertheless, the cost of living can have a hard effects on the budget.
What to do for fun There are many activities in the University that promotes culture, technological advances, green energy, sports, music, and many more. The UPRM has a lot of national and international organizations, fraternities, sororities, and clubs.
Food and Dining The campus food service offers a variety of locals and international plates. The other choices are fast food restaurant or dorm cooking.
Dorm Life There is no dorm in the university for regular students. However, the students that participates in athletics in the university are eligible to in-campus dorm. Usually students stay in apartments near the university.
Academic Rigor Many investigations in engineering and natural sciences. The professors are from mayor universities in the USA
Tips for prospective students Study hard. Have a good relationship with the professors. Make a lot of friends. Study in small groups (2-3 persons).
In three sentences The UPRM is a solid college that has competitive courses and students. Nevertheless, the setting is very cheery and patriotic between the professors and students. Its infrastructure is ecological and ergonomic.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The grad caravana is the pre-graduation where all students celebrate the moment.
Bang for the buck It is the best! Tropical climate and interesting campus makes this place great.
What to do for fun The center of the city is a nice place to visit and meet while drinking coffee. There are many nice beaches and forests in the west side. The Yaguez Theater often offers concerts, etc. Many pubs and bars sometimes offer live music.
Food and Dining Food is great! Many places to choose from in the surroundings.
Dorm Life It does not offer housing, but there are many private places to choose from in the surroundings.
Academic Rigor It is very demanding, professors are usually available to help as well as graduate students. There are help centers in many departments.
Tips for prospective students Always have an umbrella, drink water and smile.
In three sentences This university has great professors, beautiful agricultural research stations and amazing architecture. It is in the west side of the island where the best beaches are. People are friendly and helpful, this campus is the best.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students for pretty much everybody since everyone is friendly and eager to meet new people.
Bang for the buck It is one of the cheapest universities of Puerto Rico and the apartments are not that expensive either.
What to do for fun Bars, restaurants, game zones, mall, etc.
Food and Dining The chef's are really great cooks inventing something new almost every week and the food taste so well.
Dorm Life People are most of the time quiet since everyone's studying and busy with their lives so no one bother's anybody.
Academic Rigor The professors really do their job at teaching their students and helping them learn and prepare themselves for their future lives as professionals.
Tips for prospective students Always try to make time for studying each day and learn to make strict priorities about what to do and what not to do.
In three sentences It's a really challenging university with a wide variety of opportunities for study. You will definitely learn and will have fun if you are studying what you really like. It's really great and interesting.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are seen more often giving transit tickets rather that catching bad guys. However, the campus is really peaceful and is very safe.
Clubs and Activities There is at least a club for every concentrations. Some engineering concentration may have more than one.
Great for these types of students If you are a mathematical or science type of student, then the Engineering and Sciences classes will be a hit. However, if you are more a humanities and arts type of student, of you're going to the department of humanities, ok, if you study something different, it is not impossible, but very hard. Unfortunately this campus don't want to mix arts with science.
What to do for fun There are many extracurricular activities to participate, but for having fun outside campus there is a cinema in the mall, bars, theaters, and some hang out places.
Food and Dining There is a small mall at the other side of the street, in front of the campus. In here there are some fast foods and local cuisine. I rather eat at the mall instead of eating in the cafeteria.
Dorm Life There are no dorms inside the campus. The student has to search for a room or apartment in the surroundings of the city.
Academic Rigor Depending on the concentration, it is from medium to really hard. Engineering has a lot of mathematical and science courses that may overwhelm anyone, but with effort and knowing to whom you're taking classes, you can be ok. Some concentrations are updated, but there are still others that haven't updated since the 1980's.
Tips for prospective students Always be on time, and if you drive to the campus it is better to be early for the parking spaces.
In three sentences It is more an engineering type university, although it is a university with different colleges, such as arts, science and business administrations. It focus more on the sciences, math and engineering than any other concentration. However, the other departments are great, with good professors, a good curriculum and an interactive student life.

Bang for the buck If we are talking about food the cafeteria is where you want to go.
What to do for fun There are two tracks for running, We have a swimming complex with three pools, an Olympic pool, a 25x25 warm up pool and a 25x35 diving pool. We also have a Gym. We have a hangout spot called Tarzan's Cave where you can go watch a movie or a live play.
Food and Dining The food is varied. They have a cafeteria in the Student Center, which is divided into two floors. They serve breakfast, lunch and some desserts. In general, a good service.
Dorm Life I don't use them.
Academic Rigor It is very intense, but possible. It is challenging but rewarding.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security guards are always on duty, and if you have car problems inside the Campus they will help. There are no incidence of criminality on campus and it's very rare if there are.
Greek Life There is a Greek life, but it has no high status on the university.
Clubs and Activities Every department has many Clubs, Associations and Organizations. if you want to join a Club from another department you are free to do so.
Great for these types of students It is great for students of Science and Agriculture, but specially Engineering. The programs for engineers are the best in Puerto Rico.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the beginning of the august semester there is always Orientation week, where we work with new students (freshman) preparing them for the college life. Also, the university offers dance classes and swimming classes.
Bang for the buck Being a Public Institution, the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez has a lower tuition than most universities in Puerto Rico. Also, if you can qualify for the Federal Pell Grant it opens a lot of opportunities for other scholarships.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun. Mayaguez has an exceptional nightlife with pubs and clubs suited for all moods and music choices or if you just want to sit, relax and talk. It is close to many beautiful beaches on Cabo Rojo, Rincon and Joyuda. The university has many organizations that arrange activities for the students like parties, campings, conferences and co-fraternization activities. Many students like to go to the Town Plaza to talk, eat ice cream or take a minute relax from classes. And there is also the movie theater on the Mayag���¼ez Town Center or Western Plaza.
Food and Dining The University has a Student Center Building which comes with a cafeteria on the first floor, a lunch an diner room on the second floor and on the thirty floor a terrace with tables. if you choose not to eat at the University there are multiple choices just minutes from it (like Wendy's, a mexican place called Chalupas, El Meson Subs and many more).
Dorm Life There are no dorms in University Campus, so any student that wants to attend has to find housing outside the university. There are many housing options outside the university only minutes away. The student can choose from living in dorms with roommates, living in studios (usually just a room, or with a room, living room and kitchenette separately) or living in a apartment with housemates. There are a lot of options to choose from and depending on the rooms and amenities the prices range from $200 to $1,000.
Academic Rigor The University has a very strong academic program. Most of the classes are high in difficulty. Any student that wants to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or more, has to have a very rigorous study schedule. The professors are a mixture of local professors and foreign professors. You will encounter professors with a very difficult teaching methods and others with a moderate teaching methods, but all of them do the topmost job in teaching the students skills they will need in they're future jobs.
Tips for prospective students For students thinking on applying to the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, it is most important that you have an excellent GPA, raging from 3.5 to 4.0 (in a 4.0 scale). It is also important that to have great College Board or SAT scores (especially Mathematics). It is good to have extracurricular activities like community service or participating in organizations. Finally, it is very helpful if you play any kind of instrument, have experience in choir or participate in a athletic team.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is very good. The University has its own police in-campus. They are always around. If, for example, you have a class that ends late at night and you don't want to walk all the way to your apartment, then you can call the campus police and they will take you there. They are very serious when it comes to security.
Great for these types of students It is great for students who like to party hard, but also study hard.
What to do for fun In college there are always activities going on, but the fun center of Mayaguez is actually the town near the college. If you like to party hard, then every thursday the party is on around the streets. If you are a more reserved kind of person there is a movie theater in town, the zoo, the beach in Cabo Rojo, and many more things.
Food and Dining You can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at college. They have no meal plan established, but the food is very affordable and the menu is always different. Around college also there is a wide variety of places to eat, ranging from mainstream places like Chili's or Macaroni Grill, to more local pizzerias and diners.
Dorm Life The college itself only has dorms for sports team members and foreign professors, but there are many apartments around the college for very affordable prices. This is good because it allows for a more free and independent college life. It resembles more adulthood than anything else.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor is based on what you want to study. If you want to have an easy-going college life then you can have that, but if you plan on studying in-depth things like medicine, mathematics, engineering, or science, then you won't be disappointed.
Tips for prospective students If you have high expectations, don't mind working to achieve your goals, and have a lot of self-control, then this college is for you. Students here are a huge family because they help each other out and have a great disposition to both have fun, and study. University of Puerto Rico- Mayaguez is a perfect balance between study and fun.
In three sentences This University is amazing. The professors really want you to ask questions, participate in class and to truly understand the material. The campus is beautiful, and student life is fun, enjoyable, and challenging.

Greek Life Greek life is a little limited but its there. You wont feel like an outsider if you don't join but if you do it helps in socializing with people of different degrees

Bang for the buck This university is very cheap, you can finish a quality degree with the same amount of money y7ou may waste in a semester in the states. A normal semester may be around $2000.
What to do for fun For fun there are pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, 2 movie theaters, shopping malls, bowling alleys and ice skating park.
Food and Dining There is a wide variety of food, from fast food to restaurants and the college cafeteria offers a little of everything even healthy and vegan options
Dorm Life Dorm life depends highly of where you stay and roommates. There are many choices with different pricing. You get what you pay for.
Academic Rigor The classes many times are harder than other universities, I have had experiences in more than one and by far Mayaguez is more demanding but you will learn more and people will have more respect for your degree. This university is currently ranked #14 in the Americas for public college/ university systems. We topped many of the states!@
