    Tips for prospective students

    The activities being offered on campus are all for you so take advantage of that and get involved. It will make your time there so enjoyable. And don't get too sucked in to the party scene. It is fun to go out just stay on top of your school work and don't let partying get in the way.
    Bang for the buck

    It is somewhat expensive for me to attend URI even after financial aid because I am out of state. Even though it is a lot of money, the education and the memories I will receive are worth the money.

    It was a difficult transition at first. Being away from home is very hard but if you get involved in the many activities around campus you will have to the time of your life.
    Am learning a lot

    The classes I have taken at URI have all helped me learn a lot. They are not time-filler classes that are there just for you to get a grade. You will come out of every class being much more educated on that topic.

    Great for these types of students

    From my interaction with some of the student body, the people who attend URI cover a wide spectrum. There are the crazy, outgoing partiers; the studious students who are spend most of their time at the library; the indie-rocknroll kids who run the 198° coffee shop; the preppy, well-dressed, perfectly manicured girls (and boys); and everyone in between. Trust me, you will find friends that will accept you just the way you are.
    Tips for prospective students

    URI is overall a great institution that can give students a good education and offer them opportunities that other colleges could not. If you are planning on attending the University take advantage of these opportunities provided for you. Establish a relationship with the teachers and staff and you can look forward to a rewarding college experience.
    Bang for the buck

    The University of Rhode Island is overpriced. Luckily instate tuition is more reasonable than out-of-state, but still, if you are a student who has to pay on their own plan on applying for scholarships, getting loans and hopefully some grants. Truthfully, I would consider not attending URI for my freshmen and sophomore years if money is an issue. This is because community colleges can offer the same beginning courses and you will get a similar quality of teaching. However, in junior and senior years the extra money URI will cost you might be worth it because advanced courses are likely not to be available at a local community college. And if you are opting for living on campus expect the price to rise because with it comes the meal plan which I would highly suggest getting when living on campus.

    The campus has nice architecture and a balance between trees and open spaces to buildings. I really enjoy the feel of the campus and love walking to class because I find it really beautiful. But the freshmen dorms are nothing to be happy about, with 3 people in a 12x12 room it is cramped and there is not enough closet space. It is made for 2 people but with the amount of students attending URI they had to increase it to 3. If you don't get along with your roommates i would consider finding another living arrangement. Also, the campus can get really boring on weekends if you don't have a car.
    Am learning a lot

    The University of Rhode Island has a lot to offer in there diverse group of experienced professors and classes. Just in my first semester I have taken Natural Resource courses from a professor who travels around the world discovering new species, Biology from a professor with over 40 years of teaching experience, and Philosophy from a professor who started her career in England and had some very interesting teaching methods. I was rarely unimpressed by my professors and there personal accomplishments, more often then not the classes were interesting and I learned an enormous amount that has helped me in choosing a major. Yet, as there always will be, there were certain disappointments that included the struggle of developing a closer relationship with the professors. Because URI has such a big student body, the classes (especially freshmen classes) have on average 300 students! If you need help in the subject and want to talk to your professor, do not think that they are going to make time for you without properly signing up for a meeting with them.

    Great for these types of students

    This is a college that is great for all types of students. There is so many different students in this school, which makes it a really interesting place to be. All kinds of kids go to URI whether they are into art, sports, music, drama, theatre, science, engineering, language, teaching, health, math, physics, and many students with many different races and ethnicities go to URI. Probably one of the most open and diverse schools out there.
    Tips for prospective students

    There are many tips that I can offer about URI to prospective students. First off, take advantage of the meal plans at this school because it is worth it. The dinning services offer such a large variety of food that does not get boring and keeps you well fed with an all you can eat style dinning plan. Another thing that I can offer as advice is to sign up for classes as soon as you can. I got in a jam with a few classes and had to move my schedule around a bit because I waited to sign up. The second that classes are available to you, grab them! In terms of the orientation, try to go to an earlier orientation towards the beginning of the summer if you can because you will have a the chance to snag the classes before other students. Finally, get involved with the school because being a part of the campus life is so important. I have many friends who have missed out on a lot that the school offers because they did not sign up for anything and did not want to bother getting involved. The more you do at URI, the more people you will meet, and the more relationships you foster, the more fun you will have and the more memorable your college experience will be.

    The University of Rhode Island is a bit pricy even for the instate tuition. The tuition keeps rising little by little, but Rhode Island is a small state and cannot get a lot of funding from the state. It is easy to look past the price though when you see what is offered to you. A great education, a beautiful campus, an amazing student body, suburban setting, fifteen minutes away from the best beach on the east coast, what more could you want? It is definitely worth what you pay and I can confirm that. All colleges are going to be expensive because that is the way schools are today. However if you want to go to a school with the best education, location, and school spirit, then URI is definitely worth the money. In addition, URI offers the Bay Campus, which is such an advantage that URI has over other schools. I know that when I look at the bill for URI, it does not really matter because I know that my time spent there was worth every penny. Bang for the buck is a definite YES!!!

    I love it at the URI Kingston campus. It is a beautiful campus filled with Rhody pride! The great thing about this school is that all the students WANT to be there, and that makes the experience even better. I love going to class, spending time with friends, and kicking a soccer ball around in the quad. Everything on this campus is enjoyable, even the food! URI has one of the best food services in the state hands down, I have not heard one person complain about the food. There are so many organizations that you can join from sports clubs to Greek Life. I have enjoyed ballroom dancing myself, it is loads of fun and the best thing is that I have gotten to meet so many people. The weather is not too bad either. A bit of rain and snow, but that is everywhere in the north east. However, the sun still shines often and it is very comfortable living at school. I also enjoy the classes because the class are not too big and the teachers are so well trained, I could not ask for a better atmosphere. Walking to class is also a great way to exercise because the campus is on a hill, which makes it better because you do get a little workout on the way to class. Meeting friends has also been a blast because the school sets up so many events where you get to meet all different kinds of people. I even went to a comedy night where I saw Ralphie May perform and I cannot even explain how hard I laughed! This school has been so enjoyable, I don't know why people would decide not to go to URI.
    Am learning a lot

    The University of Rhode Island has a lot to offer its students. Each class is filled with new, up to date information that help its students succeed and lead them on to bright futures. I am currently attending URI and I have already learned a lot being there. In my first semester, I learned about a years worth of high school work and the great thing was that it was not hard to do. With the professors and grad students working as hard as they do, it was so easy to learn from them. The faculty is like non other because they are extremely dedicated to their students. I have learned numerous things from how to structurally format a molecule, to solving and applying a heat transfer equation, to writing a very persuasive argumentative paper, and how to even do a personal interview! This school provides limitless resources for its students to learn and to take in as much information as they want. The teachers are always there for me. I go to office hours where I can bring my work that I am having problems with and every single time the teachers help me to solve my own problems. I could not have dreamed of learning so much. I have even learned how to budget my time from my engineering professor.

    Bang for the buck

    Costly, but in comparison to private schools, URI is on the more affordable end. They are raising tuition this coming fall though. +~$1,000 for in-staters.

    I credit this to my extra-curricular activities. Without them, I would never have found my niche/a break from studies.

    I've always been a firm believer of education is what you make of it. It really all boils down to what you're studying, if you enjoy it, and if you're willing to put in the work to reap the benefits. The professors I've had so far genuinely love what they teach and are willing to answer questions.

    Basketball fans, people looking for Greek life, theater geeks who want a tight-knit and fun group, beach bums, those bubbling over with enthusiastic school pride, and marine biology majors.

    Use the gym and the AEC and the library - you're paying for these things, but it's depressing how few students actually use them.
    Bang for the buck

    The truth is, URI runs a little pricey as far as state schools go. Granted, my family and I are flat broke, but thanks to URI's financial aid and a few outside scholarships, I have been able to pay for my first year without taking out any student loans. Still, instate students might want to consider taking their gen eds at CCRI, since the credit is guaranteed transferable, and the tuition is much more affordable. The caveat out of the way, URI does deliver a plenty of perks for all its cost. Endless academic variety and free resources like Career Services and the Academic Enhancement Center ensure that you get your money's worth. It's difficult for a state school to balance the budget, but I wish URI could find some way to address the parking situation: commuter parking is less than ideal.

    Contrary to popular belief, URI is not a school full of Rhode Islanders! One thing I love about URI is getting to meet people from lots of different places; even many international students have found their way to this school and make it all the more fun of a place to be. Clubs like The Mob and Humans v. Zombies do crazy things to promote school spirit and the 100+ student organizations leave plenty of things to do, many of which feature free pizza. The abundance of things to do on campus is pretty fortunate, because URI's location is kind of quiet. (Unless Pauly D comes to visit!) There's not much to do off-campus unless you want to take the 40 minute drive into Providence, which is a bit of a bummer. On the flip side, the beach is only ten minutes away, and beautiful all year round. Lots of good food, too. There are lots of different people here, and that's one of the best things about URI.
    Am learning a lot

    I have just completed my first semester at URI, and have already experienced two extremes. On the one hand, I could wax unendingly about how wonderful my nutrition and communications classes were, with fascinating material and engaging professors and challenging but not overwhelming assignments. On the other hand, I also experienced the drag of the +300 student lecture halls in a psychology class that was mostly a dull Powerpoint presentations of definitions, and a theater class where most of the students goofed off. This is not to say the academic quality at URI is hit or miss, just that this school is not exempt from the challenges of the occasional large and apathetic classroom. That's what makes URI's honor's program so exciting: it's small classroom setting and instructor selected topics guarantee that it's going to be a fascinating and living course, even on the introductor, gen ed requirement level. Definitely take advantage of the honors program for the most stimulating academics.

    URI is great for any type of student. Pretty much every personality type is represented at URI, honestly. There are plenty of typical sorority girls, jocks, artsy kids, and everyone in between. Anyone can find a place on campus.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved right off the bat. Transitions to college are tough, especially freshman year, but being involved on campus is a sure-fire way to lessen that stress. The students are always inviting of new members and freshmen and will be an instant group of friends that you can turn to for help if you need it.

    Speaking as an out-of-state student, I can say that URI is pricey for those of us not from Rhode Island. However, the information being presented is sure to help in our future, so I suppose it pays off in the end. URI tends to be a little stringy with their scholarship money, but any little bit certainly helps!

    The campus is beautiful year round and the buildings are a wonderful mix of old architecture and modern ones. Since the campus is so contained, you will always see someone you recognize while walking around.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors come from all over the world and bring their own experiences to the classroom discussions. Every professor I have had in my two years at URI has been kind and willing to help students out in either office hours, which they are required to hold, or through e-mail. The classes are interesting and some are unusual - I've taken everything from the basic General Psychology to classes like Geology of the U.S. National Parks and the Victorian Sensation Novel!

    Basically, any student who wants to enjoy college, have fun, learn a lot, and get their money's worth. URI is a great school.
    Tips for prospective students

    1. Go to class. 2. Go out and participate. It's the best way to meet new people. 3. Take advantage of the free services offered. Career services, the library, the gym, etc etc etc... 4. If you commute: the parking is terrible. Be prepared to arrive early, have trouble finding a spot, and pay for a commuter pass (yearly).

    For out-of-state students, URI is expensive. It's a bit more manageable for in-state students, but it is a tad pricey. Go to class, don't waste your money.
    Am enjoying being here

    Campus is generally always busy. There are always events going on, and the quad is a great place, full of unique individuals. There's literally something for everyone. The people are nice, there is enough to do on campus and nearby, that it is rare that you have to go too far. The Ryan Center has a few big concerts and performances every single year. Examples from the past year or two are Kid Cudi, Jim Gaffigan, The Fray, Wiz Khalifa, Neon Trees, and of course, URI basketball.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors at URI are, far the most part, engaging, caring, and intelligent. Once in a while, you get stuck with a poor professor, but that is the same at every school. Most professors go out of their way to help you and make themselves available. Many will even assist you once you have left the classroom, whether it be in a job search or something along those lines. Classes are generally challenging, but not extreme. It all depends on your course load and the amount of effort you are willing to put in. If you're a serious student and care about learning and not wasting you're money, you will most certainly get value and knowledge out of your classes.

    Campus Safety

    Campus Safety is spot on, there has never been a moment where my friends or I have ever felt unsafe. There are blue safety lights that are placed all around campus and one can be seen no matter where a student is. These lights have an emergency call button that will contact the campus police and they will come to that location to help. There is also never any serious issues that occur here in terms of safety. The University of Rhode Island community is very laid back and most students never really consider safety an issue.
    Greek Life

    While many students do not choose to pursue Greek Life for various reasons those that do only have good things to say about it. There is a Greek Week in the Spring semester where all of the Fraternities and Sororities gather and compete as well as have socials with each other. There are also many members who fall in love with the members and actually take the brotherhood and sisterhood aspects to heart.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are tons of groups and clubs that allow students of different backgrounds or similar interests to meet and have fun. There is also intramural sports that run through the whole year which include almost all of the major sports. There are more competitive club sports that many students make commitments to. There are some spirit groups on campus that throw big events like homecoming weekend, Nearly Naked Mile, Rhody's Birthday, and a mud volleyball tournament. There is also a whole office dedicated to getting students involved in civic engagement, so for those that are interested in volunteer work there are plenty of opportunities there.
    Great for these types of students

    For students who like to go out and have some fun on the weekend there is always something going on. Someone who can really branch out will make a ton of new friends and will have a great time here. There are also a lot of opportunities to help with research and lab practice.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    The campus has a place called the North Woods which is an old growth forest that houses many rare plants, birds, and animals. There were baby owls in the forest as of last spring and there are also trails for running or hiking as well.
    Bang for the buck

    If you get involved, work hard, and put yourself out there the University of Rhode Island will pay off and in my personal experiences be worth more than the tuition I pay. I won't always remember the homework or exams but I will never forget the memories and friendships that I have made while at this University.
    What to do for fun

    There are a little under 100 student groups and there is also on campus jobs that end up being more fun than work. There is also greek life that a great deal of students end up joining and having a blast with. There is also the beach within 15 minutes of the campus. Many of the upperclassmen rent houses in the surrounding neighborhood so the students from campus tend to travel to there on the weekends.
    Food and Dining

    There is always a multitude of choices at both dining halls and the staff truly cares about the experience. There are sandwiches, pasta, stir fry, salads, burgers, and pizza every day but the main meals vary. There are even special nights where Dining services puts on candle lit dinners or holiday feasts.
    Dorm Life

    There is a variety of different buildings and living styles that can accommodate a student of any year. Even if one does not like the living situation they are in they can always change to another room or building. The Housing and Residential Life really helps make sure everyone is getting what they paid for as well as setting up communities for students to succeed in more ways than one.
    Academic Rigor

    Different majors have different levels of difficulty but in all of them students can find challenging work and gain real knowledge on the areas of study.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved with something on campus, it will make your time here worth every penny you spend. Work very hard your first semesters because these are the stepping stones for your GPA and remember it's just as important to have fun while you're here.

    The atmosphere and the student life are the best parts about the University of Rhode Island. There is a community that thrives here as well as tough manageable academics with a lot of room to grow and achieve.

    To make the most of your time, you really should get involved. I have gotten very involved freshman year, and have met so many new friends as a result. By getting involved, this huge school suddenly turns into a small, close knit school.

    What to do for fun

    GET OUT and do stuff- do not not not sit in your dorm. Join clubs, go to the beach, go into town, go out to eat, go for walks- anything. There are a million things to do once you get into it, but if you sit cooped up in your room, you will never make friends or find adventures.
    Food and Dining

    A lot of choices, or so they say, but in reality- the same choices every day gets boring. There was a rarely a day that the food didn't make me or my friends sick when we were living on campus. There are a lot of places to get food at the top of campus, though.
    Dorm Life

    Unless you're in Barlow or Weldin your freshman year, you'll probably want to transfer schools. Move off campus your sophomore or junior year- or else suffer in dirty, old buildings until the possibility of living in an on campus apartment opens up your senior year.
    Academic Rigor

    Some courses are very challenging, but most courses are tolerable, if not easy. The further you get into your specific program, the harder but more enjoyable courses get.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't listen to people tell you that you don't need to pick a major- the longer you wait, the longer you'll be there. Get involved and adventure off campus. Make a lot of friends in your desired field. Don't go to lunch at peak times- bring a snack.

    The University of Rhode Island is a medium-sized school, but can seem very small at times. Professors and academics (for the most part) strive to help students do their best and be their best in their field. There are a lot of things to do if you get involved, otherwise the school can seem boring.

    Campus Safety

    URI is a relatively safe place. It is an open campus, so anyone can drive or walk onto campus, but there is a police station and EMTs on campus if there is every problems.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is big at URI, but not so important that you have to be in a frat or sorority. There are more academic frats and there are frats that people join to make friends and have parties.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are intramural sports and a lot of clubs at URI, probably something for everyone, and if they don't have a club that you think would be fun, with 8-10 people you can start a club on your own through URI.

    URI has something for everyone.

    The quad is extremely popular at URI. It is the best spot to lay out when it is sunny, study, quick or throw a ball around, or for clubs to have booths.
    Bang for the buck

    Overall, I think that if an in state student is attending URI, they are getting a relatively good value for their money. For a student attending from out of state, it might be a bit much, unless they are a part of a particular program not available near them or they want to be a part of a sports team at URI.
    What to do for fun

    There are clubs to join, intramural sports, and of course the beach is very close. If a student is of age there are popular bars that a lot of students go to on the weekends. There is also a bowling alley and some places to enjoy karaoke on certain nights of the week. The basketball games are usually fun to attend too. URI is a division 1 school and a lot of the teams make it far into the season and they hold playoff and championship games at the school. The Ryan Center is also a part of URI, where they have concerts with very popular bands and artists, and also a comedian or 2 each year. Students get discount tickets usually ot every event.
    Food and Dining

    The food at URI is actually very good! There are 2 main dining halls. Usually students that are living on campus are required to have some sort of meal plan, in which you have unlimited meals. You can go to the dining hall for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a couple times for a quick snack during the day. The dining hall is sort of a buffet style. They always have a main meal to choose from, burgers, hot dogs, fries, a stir fry station, a pasta station (my favorite), and a salad and dessert bar. It is great because you can go and eat as much or as little as you want! At the top of campus is also the emporium which has shops and restaurants that are open late if you get a late night hunger.
    Dorm Life

    URI has great dorm life. Staying in a dorm freshman year is definitely a must. That is were you meet your friends that you might have until you graduate and possibly after. Rules in the dorms are not too strict, and RAs are generally nice, as long as you don't plan on causing trouble. They have a 3 strike policy which is very reasonable. There are different types or dorms, suites in which one bathroom is shared between rooms, or regular dorm rooms in which bathrooms are shared with the entire hallway. If a student has a problem with their roommate, there is usually a possibility to switch if things get too bad. Living in a dorm and attending programs held by the RAs is definitely a great thing to do at URI.
    Academic Rigor

    College life can be very stressful at times, and the difficulty of classes depends very much on your major and the teachers. I have had classes in my major that were extremely easy, but other general classes that were difficult and challenging because of the work or sometimes what was expected by the teachers.
    Tips for prospective students

    Try out everything and get involved! There are so many clubs and groups to be a part of, and it does not hurt to try something new. It is a great way to make new friends, find a new passion, or just continue doing something you love.

    URI is a great size, not too big and not too small. The location is perfect, near the beach, close to the city. Not only is the campus beautiful, but most of the students are really nice.

    There are so many fraternities and sororities on campus and they recruit in the fall and in the spring so if you didn't get in the first time, there's a second chance.

    Students get discounts on a lot of things on campus from food to game tickets to concert tickets. Sometimes things are given away for free.
    What to do for fun

    Clubs at the school host their own dance parties. Some are even themed. There also tons of other events. It's even fun t just hang out in your dorm with friends eating snacks and watching movies.

    My best advise for incoming students is to go to class! It's so easy to get out of track with your studies especially for freshman. In high school i was a dedicated student. I rarely let anything distract me from my studies but the freedom of living on campus makes it very easy to get lazy with the school part of campus.

    The most difficult part of attending URI for me is the financial aspect. I've had to fight hard to get the financial aid i need to stay enrolled.

    Take full advantage of the events offered, especially in the very beginning of you college experience. When you go to the different job fairs, sorority/fraternity rushes, events in the quad, and club fairs, you get a good feel for what the university is like and it is a great opportunity to meet new people.

    Tuition for out of state students is very expensive, even with financial aid and scholarships. With that being said, the education received and experiences that I have so far encountered is definitely worth the money spent to attend this university!

    Adjusting to the change from being at home definitely took some time, but once you get past all the differences, going to school in Rhode Island definitely has amazing outcomes. The University of Rhode Island is a great environment. Everyone here is nice, helpful, and there are great professors. There are always many different kinds of events going on on campus and off campus. Also the location of the school is about 10 minutes away from the beach, and a half hour away from Providence. With good transportation systems running through the campus, travel around is made very simple.

    The University of Rhode Island is a great school to receive an education at. Whether it is a class you are taking as a general education course or a major requirement class, you are guaranteed to walk out of each class having learned something new. You may not realize it when you register for a general education class as a spot filler, that you will actually learn a lot in that class, but you will. Attending the classes, doing the work, studying for exams all help educate you. Also, when you do not understand something, every professor has office hours and are willing to help you until you completely understand it.     I'm excited to get to the campus and experiance all of the clubs and activities URI has to offer, and there seems to be a huge selection. Also there are many guest apparences which included comedians and concerts. I'm a little worried about getting around the town on weekends without a car but there is a bus schedule that will have to do. My room is a suite so i will be sharing a bathroom with 5 other girls...there's both advantages and disadvantages. But i feel quite lucky because there is only about three dorms that are suite style on campus.

    I'm very excited to be starting my classes in the kinesiology track. I've chosen all challenging courses and I feel as if it will be helpful to me in the future. If you really want a class but the times are conflicting with something that's required don't be afraid to ask your advisor for help. During orientation i had so many question i was literally the last one out of the room. They will help you a lot with any questions you have, don't be afraid to ask.

    The school does a great job offering scholarship money to make the school affordable. I am learning a lot and I feel like the classes are well worth the money. I think that the meal plans are expensive and I don't like that you can't take food out of the dining halls. The facilities provided are extremely nice and there are a lot of renovations taking place right now. There are multiple extra help sessions that are free and they really add to the in-class experience to help you learn and do the best you can.

    I transferred to URI from St. Lawrence. The schools are polar opposites and I have realized what a mistake I made in my choice of schools for my freshman year. I love URI an all the people. I am on a sports team and I enjoy the company of all my teammates. I love that everything is so close and the ocean is minutes away. The campus is small enough to walk around but large enough that you see new people all the time. It is a great atmosphere and people are so nice.

    Any student thinking about coming to this University should consider the following: 1) Am I ready to go to college? (no matter where you go, this is extremely important to ask yourself). 2) Am I willing to work hard and persevere in my work? (this does not mean you need to get straight A's. However you do need to remain focused, or it will come back to haunt you). 3) Do I plan to be an engineering, a science, or a business major? (this question may be too early to ask yourself. However since this University focuses on Engineering, Business, and the Sciences make sure you have a particular interest in one of these majors). 4) Have fun!!! (this is college; work hard but enjoy yourself. You do not need to be locked in your room studying 24/7).

    From what I've heard, the Pharmacy Department of URI is one of the best on the East Coast. And from first hand experience, the Engineering Department is great as well. The Business, Nursing, and Music Departments are also quite extraordinary. Honestly, URI is for any student looking for a rural area, with some of the biggest thinkers in the world.

    I would suggest actually going to your classes rather than skipping and sleeping in. Don't miss out on the opportunities available on campus, whether they be making friends, joining a club, becoming engaged with campus life, or creating a better environment.     What to do for fun

    There are very many clubs at URI. There are so many, that I am still learning about all of them! I am in the process of joining a few, Best Buddies, for example. This club pairs you, the volunteer, up with a person with special needs. You become the person's best buddy for the year, and attend group and individual sessions with him or her. It's great! There are other volunteer organizations, intramural sports, and a variety of academic clubs. URI clubs also put on comedy shows, dances, and other activities. There is so much to do here!
    Food and Dining

    The food at the University of Rhode Island is great. I am a vegetarian and was nervous about eating options upon entering college, but I have encountered no problems. There are so many choices within each dining hall--there are three--that everyone can be satisfied. There are soups on cold days, sandwich stations, home cooked meals, and burger stations among many other things. Breakfast is a hit, too, with all sorts of foods from omelets to danishes. I am very pleased with URI's dining options.
    Dorm Life

    Although I cannot compare dorm life here to anywhere else because this is the only school I have attended, I can certainly say I am pleased with it. At home, I always had my own room and expected to feel cramped with a roommate--let alone two potential roommates. I ended up having two roommates, and I find myself comfortably living with both of them. The room just seems to work! It is a good size, it is warm in the winter, and my RA lives right down the hall if anything goes wrong.
    Academic Rigor

    URI has all sorts of courses to offer, each varying in difficulty depending on individual strengths as well as professor teaching styles. In any case, it is so important to put one's best foot forward in each and every class. With focus, if one tries his or her hardest, I am sure the varying academic rigor will be manageable.

    Focus! At the University of Rhode Island, as well as likely any other college, it is so important to stay on task. We are paying all this money for a reason-to get an education and degree! Many students I have met have found themselves distracted with college life, whether it be staying up too late or the lack of studying, because they are on their own for the first time in their lives.     greek life is huge here! a lot of people from my high school joined sororities and love it, and a lot of the friends i have made are part of greek life. i'm actually considering joining this semester.

    there is a wide range of clubs and activities here but i feel like they aren't really advertised enough and don't really seem open to the public.
    What to do for fun

    uri offers a lot of different things to do for its residents and students in downtime. every week an electronic letter is emailed to your school email account with upcoming events and lectures that you can add to your resume, and updating social events. in the resident halls there are bulletins in the bathrooms that are updated weekly as to things to do around campus, such as free ice skating in the boss arena on sundays from 1-5 pm. also uri is heavily into greek life, so there is almost always something going on at a fraternity house.
    Food and Dining

    with two dining halls on campus, hope dining hall seems to be the most popular and i can see why. there are multiple choices for you to choose from at every meal: a sandwich station, burgers and hot dogs, a salad bar, and a homestyle option. there is also always dessert at dinnertime!
    Dorm Life

    personally, i don't live on campus but have a lot of friends who do and have before. i visit my friends all the time; on weekends, in between classes, study dates, etc. and the dorms vary from ghetto gorham to the newer barlow and weldin. it really depends on your major as to where you'll be placed but you can always transfer dorms if you have an issue with a roommate or some other problem.
    Academic Rigor

    the academic rigor at uri is probably the same as it is at any other institution of higher learning. i can't really compare as i am not a transfer student but as long as you do your work and get help when you need it with multiple supplemental instruction meetings, recitations, academic tutoring and second grade options if all else fails.

    i know it seems like a lot of people are pushing you towards the right college for you, but your compatability with a college depends mainly on your attitude towards the university going into it. a lot of students from rhode island have a negative attitude towards uri because of the amount of rhode islanders that attend school there, but it may be the most financially smart choice for you. my biggest tip is to just stay open minded, it's a big school and you don't have to see anyone you don't want to.

    the dorms at uri are all very nice and safe. they have been recently renovated and uri is building all new freshman dorms to be opened by next fall. moreover, uri has what is called living learning communities where students in the same major have all the same classes together and also live together in a dorm building. i am currently in the engineering llc and it has been such a big help with my studies and meeting other engineering students. all dorms are key entry only and only residents can enter after 8pm. if a friend wants to visit they have be let in by someone living in that dorm building.

    as an engineering student here at uri, my academic abilities have been greatly tested again and again. the professors at uri expect much from their students and provide a great learning experience, but they are always willing and able to help you when need.

    apply early because many people from around the northeast and the rest of the country apply to become a uri student. also, pick a school that you will feel at home at and feel comfortable living at because this will be your home for at least 4 years. uri has never let me down.

    I feel incredibly safe on campus. The campus police are always out and about, making sure every one's doing what they're supposed to. There are blue kiosks scattered throughout campus with buttons and phones to call the police in emergencies, if needed.

    I love to hang out with my friends, and watch TV. We go out to eat, take a drive, or play catch on the quad when the weather is nice. Spring brings lots of opportunities to be out in the sun.

    The Memorial Union is filled with club and organizations throughout the week and is also filled with information about incoming meetings and events. Inside the Union, there are also services to help replace missing student IDs, give directions, have hours of buses, and provide other information. The Union is also home to the Ram's Den, a food court that hosts a deli, a Chinese restaurant, a grill, a hot foods stand and a variety of other snacks and drinks. The Ram's Den provides one free combo meal to every student from Monday through Friday and also allows for great friends to meet for breakfast. lunch or dinner between classes from 7:30am to 7pm. The campus also contains a place known as the Emporium, which is located on Upper College Road. The Emporium is home to several delicious restaurants, a tattoo studio, laundry cleaner, coffee shops, Bubble Tea, CVS and a bookstore. When dining halls are closed for the night, it is best to quench your appetite with food until as early as 3am.

    Band camp allows for the early move-in of URI students participating in the URI Marching Band. Early move-in allows for students to learn their way around the campus, connect with old and new friends, and develop a passion for a new lifelong activity.

    The campus is filled with a variety activities, including: Greek life; musical organizations such as: marching band and pep band; humans vs. zombies; ghost hunting; sports and many other organizations. The campus is filled with fun activities for anyone and everyone. On Saturdays in the fall semester, URI hosts a football game, where the Rhode Island Rams play to their victory with the support of the RAM Marching Band, cheerleaders and URI Dance Team.
    Food and Dining

    URI is home to two main dining halls, Hope and Butterfield (Butt as students call it). Hope is open for lunch and dinner, and closes around 8:00pm. On weekends, it is the only dining hall open to students, and opens for brunch at 11:30am, closes for a few hours and reopens for dinner. Hope offers holiday specials; cereal and other breakfast foods; freshly made sandwiches; burgers, hot dogs and sinfully delicious fries and rings; as well as soups, pasta and a small assortment of desserts. Butterfield is filled with delicious omeletes, pastries and belgian waffles for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are filled with fruitful tacos, pasta, freshly made sandwiches, main dishes, desserts, ice cream and friendly people.     Dorm life is one of the hardest adjustments in any and every university experience. Freshman year has proven to be difficult with the roommate process, but the most important rule in freshman year is to keep an open mind and meet new people. It is best to be open and honest when filling out the roommate survey online because dishonesty can cause the mispairing of individuals which can cause problems between roommates. At URI, dorms are filled with fun and loving people that participate in group activities and trips to restaurants, the beach, the Quad or volunteer opportunities. The university also provides laundry machines and vending machines within the dorm buildings and RAs are available at any hour to help out individuals who lock themselves out of their room, need assistance, or to quiet a noisy room or floor.
    Academic Rigor

    At the University of Rhode Island, the difficulty or easiness of classes is dependent on the professor or the material. Before choosing a class, research the professor on ratemyprofessor.com and determine their teaching style, likability, relatability and whether the textbook is necessary for the class. After you enroll in a class, take advantage of the professor's office hours and attend SI (tutoring) sessions to increase your overall grade in the class. It is also important to remember that this university also contains a twenty-four hour room available for work and study throughout the entirety of the week.

    I would say URI is a very good value for an in-state student. I don't know how the out-of-state fees hold up against similar schools.
    What to do for fun

    There are lots of clubs and activities to get involved with on campus. In the warmer months, URI is only a short drive to the beach and they offer lots of day trips like whale watching. There is a regular bus to Rhode Island's capitol, Providence, which has a pretty big mall and a local visual display/event called waterfire that happens during the year. Definitely worth checking out at least once if you haven't seen it before.
    Food and Dining

    I've heard others say bad things about the dining at URI, but I really enjoyed it. You can get pretty much anything you want in the dining hall, from egg white omelets, to fresh waffles, customized subs, gyros and more. If you get bored with that, there is a small plaza with a good variety of take-away and eat-in options, and the school's own Ram's Den which features burgers, fried goods, sandwiches and more.
    Dorm Life

    I plan on commuting from now on, but I lived in one of the newer dorms and it was pretty nice inside. Maybe we were just lucky, but we didn't have any loud or annoying neighbors.
    Academic Rigor

    It's hard for me to judge this. Most of the classes I've taken were gen. eds, and although they were not incredibly rigorous, it's important to attend class and keep up with the work given.

    Go to class! Try to stay motivated, and get involved with other students and activities outside of class. It's easy to lose interest if you don't have a good support group.

    I attended URI for 1 year but couldn't figure out what I wanted to do, so now, several years later, I'm going back. They made the process very easy for me and have been available throughout the summer to answer my questions and help me get started with picking out classes and financial aid. The phone system can be a little challenging and sometimes you get transferred around to each department, so it can be easier to go to campus and sort things out in person if you are having trouble.

    URI definitely makes your safety their priority. No matter where you stand on campus there will be a call box in sight, maybe even several. These call boxes have blue lights where you can access the campus police in just a push of a button. They also keep every student updated frequently by email if anything suspicious has occurred on campus or if there is anything you must be aware about in general.
    What to do for fun

    Every day and night there is ALWAYS something going on at URI, you will never be bored or lonely. During the day the quad is usually the hang out spot, it's so relaxing to just sit there during a beautiful day and study, do homework, or just to hang out with friends in general. The quad usually hosts special events periodically ranging from concerts to movie nights to hemp fest, it's a lot of fun. There's also the Ryan Center on campus which hosts sporting events, Day Glow, concerts, the circus, stand up comedians, etc. And if all else fails there's always events on certain nights in your own dorm building like pizza night, sundae night, movie night, etc.
    Food and Dining

    URI has two different dining halls, Butterfield and Hope. They both are buffet style and offer a huge variety of food. Dinner and lunch specials change everyday but they have certain stations open everyday consistently such as a salad bar, cereal station, pasta station, taco and grilled station, omelette station, and pizza station. They also have the Rams Den where you can get one meal for free everyday and it has uno's pizza, Chinese food, burgers,etc. Rhody Market located next door from Hope also has great food ranging from Starbucks coffee to mozzarella sticks to pizza to frozen yogurt. Compared to high school cafeterias these dining halls are five star restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    URI has the typical college dorms, they're nothing to brag about but they could be way worse. Typically for freshman you will be in a triple with two other roommates with bunk beds. It isn't a huge room so don't get your hopes up on having a lot of space, but it is livable and I assure you after the first week you will completely be used to it. They do have very hollow walls unfortunately, I could hear my neighbors cough when they were sick during the winter for example that's probably the worst part. You will also have to share 4 showers and bathrooms amongst around 20 other people. They aren't co-ed though so girls will be with girls and boys with boys. They will be messy people do puke everywhere and miss the toilet, it happens you'll get used to it. The bright side is dorm life only gets better after freshman year. URI does offer apartments with your own kitchen and bathroom, so suck it up for one year and you won't regret it. The good thing about freshman dorms is that's where you meet all new people in your hall and make all new friends. The first month or so your dorm building does have activities so you meet everyone and get acquainted believe me it helps make a lot of new friends.
    Academic Rigor

    URI has it's range of difficult and challenging courses just like any other university. Regardless if you consider the class challenging or not, the work load will be excessive. Professors will decide to have you write papers several times a week, you will have random quizzes, and be given extensively long tests on material the teacher didn't even teach you; you actually need to read the books! That's the key factor in being successful in most classes at URI, you MUST read the material on your own because the professors WILL expect you to know it. Now not all classes are like that you will be given a syllabus for each class at the beginning of each semester so you will know what you will be getting yourself into. Most professors are straight forward and set their expectations right away. Live by the syllabus and you'll have no problems. Just remember you're not in high school anymore, they will NOT accept anything late believe me I know this by personal experiences.
    Tips for prospective students

    URI is a huge campus located on a hill. Each class requires a good ten minute walk from one to another, so if the outdoors and daily exercise isn't your thing I STRONGLY suggest visiting the campus before making any decisions. Once you've officially decided URI is for you, DO NOT lose focus of your main goal at URI. You are going there to study and learn, NOT party. I must admit there will be a lot of social gatherings but you must stay on top of your school work and stay focused. It is VERY easy to fall behind in class, just by missing on day of class. You won't have your parents or professors nagging you to do your work or go to class and you will be tempted to party over studying. Biggest mistake you can make, URI does NOT play games they will quickly put you on academic probation and will not hesitate by any means to kick you out, I have seen it happen on several occasions. If you are falling behind or need help, seek it. Your professors and advisor want you to succeed, so use all of the resources you're paying for at URI.

    If you like being outside like me you can go take a walk in the North Woods, go to beach, go hiking in many of the parks close by. If that's not for you then you can always drive up or take a bus to Providence and spend a day/night in the city. One of the perks of being in the smallest state is that it only takes about an hour to go from one end of the state to the other.

    When it comes to food I think the school does offer many choices for students. However, like the dorms the meal plans are overpriced. That aside even if you are really picky and don't like any of the food offered on campus you can always go up the hill to the emporium which has many places to eat at.

    From what I saw many of the dorms were small, and uncomfortable. For the cost of living on campus I think students deserve better. I have lived off-campus for most of my time here and I love it. However, they are in the process of building new dorms so who knows maybe those will be a lot better.

    The difficulty of the courses will be different from major to major. From my experience if you take the time to study and put effort into seeking help understanding the subject matter then you can do well no matter how hard a course is. It can be hard but it is not impossible to complete all the homework, assignments, and projects assigned.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure you pay attention to all of the costs (in-state/out-state tuition, meal plans, dorms, etc.) because they really add up. If you get a chance take a tour of the campus. Lastly, if it is possible look into off-campus housing as it is a lot cheaper and more comfortable in my opinion.

    The University of Rhode Island has a wide variety of classes and majors to choose from. I am a Wildlife and Conservation major and many of my classes have lessons outside the classroom providing me with hand-on experience. Also, many of the courses have more than one professor teaching them giving you an opportunity to take it with someone else if the their teaching style is not for you.

    Food at the URI dining halls is top notch. Definitely one of the best amongst other Rhode Island schools. The All You Can Eat set up and variety of food certainly puts URI over the top.

    I looked at a pamphlet and asked my cousin, who happens to be a URI alumn, abou the different things thy have available for fun. Almost every week there's something going one, whether it's an event at the nearby beach or trips to neighboring states and cities or oncampus events like concerts, parties and club held events. I'm excited about first night, zombies vs. humans, rush week and trips to NYC and Boston.
    Food and Dining

    I liked the food. It was no home cooked meal, but what campus dining hall on the face of the earth cooks the exact same meals, down to the ingredients, as your mother or guardian does. The meals were delicious and filling. There were varieties of different types of styles of food. There's something for everyone; vegans, vegetarians, meat eaters and even picky eaters.
    Dorm Life

    I liked the size of the dorm I slept in for orientation and the size of the dorm my cousins slept during TD, which is a talent development program. All three dorms were a decent size for a 3 person occupied room. There were enough space for everyone's belongings and the bathrooms weren't far from the rooms. Also there was a lounge room on the floor of each of the dorm buildings I've seen/visited.
    Academic Rigor

    Well I haven't started classes, but after orientation and asking previous students about the academic rigor, I've realized that it's just like most college. It all depends on the student. If you don't put much effort into your studies or focus on your academics, it'll seem hard and if it seems hard if you do the complete opposites then their are different learning departments on campus that will be glad to help you with any subject and academic hardship.
    Tips for prospective students

    I suggest you visit the school during the school year so you can beta feel of the classes and dorm rooms while they are occupied by students. I also suggest you take a tour so you can get a feel of how far the classroom buildings and dinning halls are from each other.

    When I went to the overnight orientation I felt at home and didn't even realize I was away from home. The campus is beautiful and the faculty and staff are friendly. The dorm rooms are nice compared to the dorms rooms I seen at the other colleges and universities I visited.

    There are movie nights and other campus events. If it's nice enough, you can drive down to the beach and hang out. There are restaurants in the Emporium for a change. If you're 21, there are bars pretty nearby.

    The selection of meal plans offer a variety to not only students living on campus, but also to commuters. The food selection is great, and meals are available for meal plan holders in 3 locations.
    Dorm Life

    The newer dorms are your best bet for acceptable conditions. However, not everyone is that lucky to get in the newer dorms. Most of the dorms have looked the same since the 60's and 70's, so be warned that they're not the elite dorms.
    Academic Rigor

    The professors, some more than others, have high expectations for students within their classes. Work varies by class and professor, but once in the 300 and 400 level classes, the rigor is a much higher degree.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make advising appointments, or email advisers if you have ANY questions. Better to ask than not know.

    The campus has alert poles everywhere, where a person can call for a ride if they feel unsafe walking at night and there are always security cars patrolling the area.

    There are countless clubs, and there are things from Religious groups to clubs about scuba diving.

    There are plenty sororities with weird traditions, and the Quad is a little grass area in the middle of the field, that is used from a tan area to a place where people play Frisbee and sometimes there are countless people doing a bunch of different things at the same time.

    Like i said before, meeting people and hanging in the Quad (middle of campus field) is always fun and also there's a beach not too far away, and there are countless clubs to keep students busy.

    There are many different Dining Halls and there is also the Emporium that includes different restaurants such as Subway, a pizza parlor, a Chinese restaurant etc there are many options, it just depends on a persons preference

    Dorm life, like any other college has to be one of the best parts of college life. There are tons of people, and you will constantly be meeting new people every single day, from different dorms.

    Academic Rigor depends a lot of your major. Many of the classes will be hard, because obviously it is college, but there are tutors for every subject and many people ho do whatever it takes to help a student understand their courses and pass.

    Student who come to University of Rhode Island have to get use to a lot of walking, since it is a big campus. There are plenty of clubs to join, and many people to meet. Not all classes are small, but they are not all huge classes either.

    Dorms can be a hit or miss for older students, but it's all what you make of it. Almost all of freshman housing is newly built within the past few years so nothing to worry about there, they are all great.

    Professors try to challenge you but they are always there for help when you need it. Very understanding and committed to the students success.

    Don't be afraid to talk to new people! Freshman year is a time when everyone is open to meeting others so the more social you are the better your college experience will be.

    Campus security is great. They are always around and if you cant find one there are big post that have blue buttons. With one push of the button campus security will then be able to find you.

    The Clubs at URI are Called ORGs (Organizations) we do amazing activities that usually involve giving back to them who have less then us. we have fun and throw parties also. along with parties we also study together, its like a mini family on campus.

    For Fun, i have Joined Organizations. I am a PINK women and A CVSA member. These groups do fun things and i never have a dull moment when i am with my organization.

    The dinning halls here are amazing, they always have a different selection that can make you feel right at home. There is also places that stay open till 1am. So if your hungry there is always a place where you can eat no matter the time or day.

    Dorm life all depends on you. If you like to party they have people who party. If you like to study they have people who study, you just have to find your group of friends.

    School is hard, just stay prepared. Make sure you have everything you need for every class. Falling behind just a little bit can be the reason you can possible fail a class.

    Get Organized, Get Busy. The busier you are the better your chances are to do well, but you can only do well if your organized. college is hard but if your organize your life you can make it through it, in one piece.

    Consider moving off-campus as an upperclassman and renting a house in Narragansett or Bonnet Shores with friends. You'll be closer to the beach and have more room and freedom.

    The Clubs here are great with keeping you busy. And Rams tours has a bus going somewhere just about every weekend for a low cost for students. And Newport, the beach and Providence are just a quick bus ride away.

    Great selection and most food doesn't taste like it was mass produced. One complaint is that the dining halls can become crowded and the lines can can get crazy. Another minor issue is the wacky hours the halls have but with your dining plan you can get a easily get a grab and go meal when ever you want.

    Some dorms are a lot nicer than others but its college and one should not expect to be living in a castle. The RA's are great in the freshmen dorms. They are extremely helpful and plan tons of small activities to do at night to help meet your neighbors.

    Very wide variety of types of classes and majors you can take. And its like High School some classes are harder than others.

    The new dorms are awesome but the older ones are absolutely unbearable! I lived in Burnside for a week and had to move out because it was so disgusting.

    The classes can be challenging at times but not all of the classes are terribly difficult. Don't expect all of the general education classes to be easy either. I expected to take geology for an easy A and ending up failing the first test.

    Take a visit to URI and be sure to sleep in a dorm and eat the food. Walk around (especially up the hills) to get a feel for daily life on campus.

    There are never any severe incidents at URI. There are many security boxes located on campus that serve for the purpose of emergency. There is also a police station on campus with police that patrol regularly, URI is not a dangerous campus at all.
    Greek Life

    Greek Life is a huge organization at URI. There are over 20 different sororities and fraternities on campus. Greek Life hosts many fundraising events and participates in many activities on campus to entertain the student body and raise money. All of the chapters on campus are national so they are very well known. There is a sorority or fraternity on campus for any type of student- everyone finds a group in Greek Life that they fit in with. Greek Life is huge at URI.

    When students get involved in clubs and extracurricular activities on campus there will always be something for them to do, along with there always being new people to meet. Getting involved on campus determines how good of a time the students here will have, since it is a big University, unless students know a lot of people, the main source of fun and activities usually runs through clubs and activities that pertain to the students interests or hobbies.

    URI is a great school for students that would like to get away from the city and be somewhat secluded, it is also a beautiful campus.     There are always options for entertainment on campus. There are all kinds of clubs and organizations for students to join, if they choose not to join, the clubs are always organizing concerts and events for the rest of the student body to attend. Something is always going on on campus, and even if students do not feel like staying on campus, there is a lot to do in Narragansett or Providence, which are not located very far from the campus.

    The dining halls at URI are remarkable. Mainfaire dining hall has won many awards for the amazing food that they serve. The food served on campus is not like other college dining hall meals, many options are available to students at all times, allowing almost anything that a student would want to eat to basically be at their fingertips. Never will one feel as if they are in need of a homecooked meal because they are always available!

    The dorms at URI are nothing to be afraid of, they are all clean and are cleaned regularly by the janitors. It is very easy to develop relationships with the majority of the people living in your dorm building as everyone is very friendly and open to meeting new people. The new residence hall that was just constructed, Hillside Hall, is absolutely gorgeous!

    Depending on the major and the courses that are taken, classes can be very easy or rather difficult. No matter what the difficulty level of the course may be, it is important to stay devoted, no classes are beneficial if students slide through them without doing anything. The honors program is remarkable- the classes focus less on busy work, as most honors courses do not, and focus mainly on getting the students to think critically and enable them to engage in conversation and argument.
    Tips for prospective students

    Since the school has a rather large number of students, future students will enjoy their time spent at URI the most if they get involved in something that interests them. But while there are many social activities, it is very important to keep devoted to classes, they are not the simplest, but they are most definitely doable. Time management is key!

    The food is very delicious at URI. You can eat as much as you want at the dining halls until you leave.

    There is a various number of dorm building for students. The Ra's are quite nice and always there for you. You may have a few problems, such as the bathroom, with hall mates if you have a community bathroom. The quiet hours are always occurs after 11 o'clock. If you have a problem with your dorm building or roommate, you can request to switch rooms or dorms.

    The surrounding towns have so much to offer, beaches, bars, and restaurants to name a few things. If you are still on campus there is always sport games, concerts and events planned throughout the week. Also with a huge list of clubs, there is always something to do.
    Food and Dining

    The food at Hope and Butterfield is your typical college dining hall food. At the top of campus is the Emporium which offers a nice change of pace with places like International Slice, Peking Tokyo, Subway, and others. However, meals up there coast close to ten dollars usually so you can see the cash disappear quite fast.
    Dorm Life

    As a transfer student I did not have to spend my time in the dorms. I have friends in them who say many aren't bad, and the new Hill Side dorm for pharmacy students is gorgeous. Most students though move off campus to Narragansett, Matunuck, and Point Judith for greater freedom and a cheaper housing expense.
    Academic Rigor

    It differs from major to major, as an engineering student all I can say is it certainly doesn't get easier as you go on. Yet, there is a lot of opportunities to get help and work closely with fellow students to do well. Just like with anything you have to work for, you get out what you put into it.

    The University College is a great place to test the waters if you are unsure of your degree program. As you progress into your degree program, the class sizes get smaller and you will begin to know your teachers better which is great for networking. Make sure to check out the surrounding area: the surf is great, Narragansett has tons to do and Providence/ Boston are only short rides away.

    There is always something to do at the University of Rhode Island. You can attend sporting events, events at the Ryan Center such as concerts and comedy shows featuring popular singers and comedians, you can take trips to Newport, Providence, and Boston with transportation provided by the school, there are popular restaurants near the campus, the beaches in Narragansett are only ten minutes away, and shopping is great in this area with several local shopping attractions and malls.

    Food and Dining is great at URI. There are many places to eat including the emporium, Rams Den, Rhody Market, and the two dining halls. The dining halls provide many different options including fresh fruit, a salad bar, a sandwich bar, burgers and hot dogs, tacos, pizza, etc.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life can be either great or bad depending on the people you are surrounded by. I personally have a good dorm life because I get along with my roommate. My dorm is usually quiet which is good when I need to study. Most dorms, however, can be noisy and have a party atmosphere, which may not be bad if that is what you like. The appearance and sanitation of the dorms is good. You can live in a dorm that has hallway bathrooms or a suite which has two rooms connected by a shared bathroom. The upper-class man dorms are very nice. They were recently updated/constructed. These dorms can provide a kitchen and a small living space.
    Academic Rigor

    Academics at the university are difficult. One must work hard to obtain good grades in your required courses. Studying is essential. Students should have good time-management skills and good studying habits.
    Tips for prospective students

    I recommend having a good financial history and credit before enrolling in the school. The tuition is on the costly end of the spectrum and becomes very stressful if you cannot pay your tuition at the end of each semester. You are unable to enroll in courses until the bill is paid which can become a problem because class are very competitive with limited seating.

    I give the school four stars out for five. The school provides a variety of majors, minors, and clubs while providing a beautiful, safe, and diverse campus. The reason I only give the school four stars is due to tuition; the school is very costly especially for out-of-state students.

    There is RIPTA (public transportation) to Providence and Newport) to get off campus. Otherwise, there is not much to do if you don't have a car to get off campus.

    URI has a system that form any point on campus you can see a blue light. If you hit the button on the light police will arrive within a minute. This makes me feel very safe no matter what time of the day.

    I joined my sorority as a sophomore this year. I think it was a great decision because I am so much more involved on campus now and I have made great friends in the process!

    When looking for a school I would suggest to remember how you feel when you are on the campus. The very first time I visited URI it reminded me of my summer house in Maine and from that moment on I knew I loved this school!

    Science, nursing and engineer majors, people who are interested in greek life, and those who want a not-so-large campus.
    Bang for the buck

    URI is a great college if you want to major in nursing, sciences, or engineering. All the professors are professional and brilliant yet they are more than happy to help. I've never had a professor who was difficult to talk to. Considering recent college tuition rises, URI is still about $13000 for in-state students and under $30,000 for out of state. If you are majoring in the majors I've previously listed, URI would definitely be a bang for your buck.
    What to do for fun

    URI has intramural sports, many clubs, greek life, anything for every type of person. URI is also a 40 minute bus trip to Providence for dining and clubbing, about 25 minutes from Newport and about 10 minutes from Narragansett beach.
    Food and Dining

    The food at URI is pretty good for campus food. At Hope, you have the option for an entree meal, sandwiches, a salad bar, and even a pasta bar where you pick what you want in your bowl and it is sauteed and prepared in front of you. If you get tired of the dorm food, on top of campus there is the Emporium where there are pizza places, sandwich shops, burger joints and Chinese restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    I've never personally dormed at URI, but the friends I've have who had dorms said they were okay. The food is great considering it is dorm food. The rooms are a bit cramped and a few of the dorms don't have warm water from time to time. Sometimes they loose internet connection, but other than that I have not heard any complaints.
    Academic Rigor

    Some of the professors I've had for my general education courses were a bit boring and just scaled at the end of the semester. The more you get up in your major, the better the academics become. The professors here at URI definite know their topic well and are very knowledgeable in their topic and how it relates to the real world.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved! URI may seem small but if you take the time to see all it has to offer, you will meet people, you will do well in classes and your college experience will be great. College is what you make of it, and URI has many ways for you to go out of your comfort zone and succeed academically and socially.

    This university may seem small at first, but has so much to offer academically and socially. The professors are always more than kind to help, and every one I have had are extremely happy when you go to their office hours. The science, nursing and engineer programs really do prepare students for the workforce.

    What to do for fun

    Joining clubs can be really fun because it provides a great opportunity to meet people. Usually, other than Greek life, a lot of the fun things happen off campus because URI is so rural. Trips to newport for shopping and bars, and providence for restaurants and clubs is always a plus. Most of the partying is done in Narragansett at the bars and neighborhood called eastward.
    Food and Dining

    The food on campus is generally pretty good. The dining halls have a lot of options but the food gets old pretty quickly. Luckily the University has a place called the emporium located on campus. The emporium offers restaurants, cafes, a hookah bar, and convenience stores.
    Dorm Life

    I lived in a dorm my freshman year and eventually moved out. The room was a forced triple and was extremely tight. My hall was very catty and almost all parties are a 15-20 minute drive away. Dorm life is very dirty, boring, and not private.
    Academic Rigor

    This school is generally average when it comes to academic rigor. However the depth and intensity of each class really coincides with one's major and year.
    Tips for prospective students

    Meet as many people as possible, and make a good reputation for yourself. Always be kind and courteous to teachers & advisors because almost all URI students get jobs, recommendations, and connections from them.

    Academically, this university provides great opportunities and real world experience and connections from professors. The school is in a rural setting and can be boring if you do not go off campus. Greek life, bars, and partying are also very big here.

    What to do for fun

    Sports and relaxing on the quad. Many different parties on many days of the week if you are into that Uri is a great place to be. Great new basketball courts and track with good gym. Friendly people to hang out with if you keep your eyes open.
    Food and Dining

    The food and dining is definitely one of the best places to dine in any university on the east coast. The new cafeteria is fantastic. It is all you can eat and they always have diverse and healthy options for students to choose from.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms in what is called the ghetto aren't great, but otherwise it just depends on what kind of roommate you get and how you adjust to dorm life.
    Academic Rigor

    Uri is right up there with other universities, but some majors bring the school down. Most majors are steadily improving as we speak.
    Tips for prospective students

    Uri is a great school you should at least consider going.

    Campus Safety

    I feel very safe on my campus, at all times. URI has emergency boxes/stands within viewing distance, no matter where you are on campus; and the police patrol the area, at needed times. Additionally, in each residence hall there are residential advisors who watch over the students in regard to their safety.
    Greek Life

    Greek Life is very prominent at URI. I am not in greek life, but my friends are. I have a great social life not being involved in greek life, just as my friends have a great social life being involved in greek life. From what I've experienced, greek life at URI is fun and a great way to meet people and make connections.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    An unusual, but my favorite, tradition on campus is Oozeball, a big volleyball tournament that takes place on a huge muddy field, where teams participate to win first place, and take part in charity. Another unusual, but favorite, location on campus is URI's Gardens.
    What to do for fun

    URI seems to always have an activity that they are providing for students to attend. The bus system that goes through URI is very feasible and grants students access to anywhere in Rhode Island. There are parties almost every weekend, and plenty of places for students to go on campus to just relax or hang out.
    Food and Dining

    The dining halls at URI are very cafeteria-like, however, there is a large array of options in regard to the food (in the dining halls), which makes the whole experience better. Furthermore, if you're not interested in the dining halls, there are many eateries and markets available within walking distance for students to eat at.
    Dorm Life

    I am rumored to live in the 'worst dorms' or URI, however, I love my residence hall. From talking to others, and my own experience, once you settle in the dorms, they become very homey. I love dorm life at URI because the school does a great job at surrounding you with people who have common interests, which makes living here enjoyable.
    Academic Rigor

    As a student at URI I know what is expected of me, and do not feel like I am over worked. I am never given busy work, feel like I am constantly learning new/important material, and always feel challenged. To add to that, if I am ever struggling with a course, there are many help aids that are very beneficial and definitely further my success.
    Tips for prospective students

    The biggest tip I have for prospective students is to go to class and make sure to get studying in. This may seem obvious, but it is very easy to get wrapped up in your social life and forget what's really important. You should have an equal balance, and you'll do just fine.

    URI has a very accepting and diverse atmosphere, where you settle on campus quick and feel right at home. Dining halls, athletic facilities, and academic buildings are all very close to the dorms. It is also extremely easy to do well in classes and have a prominent social life.

    Theres a ton of activities to do on campus and within the dorm buildings. There is never a dull moment here at URI.

    Always good food on campus if your on top of campus or the dining hall you can never have a bad meal. There are many choices and there are choices for all types of eaters picky or not.

    Living here is great you meet so many people and you learn to communicate better with people its an overall great experience.

    Teacher expect alot from the student but they are also very flexible with due dates and such if a good excuse is brougt up.

    One tip I have for prospective students would be not to get sucked into the fun. College is about all the fun and games, but, always put your studies first put the fun for when you need a break or better yet when you have everything else accomplished.

    This location isn't unusual but it is nice. It is the botanical gardens on campus. They are a great spot on a nice sunny day to read and catch up on work. Also, barely anyone goes there.
    Bang for the buck

    Truthfully I feel the money I have been paying actually is helping out younger generations behind me because of the new buildings and construction that have been taking place which I won't get to enjoy because I will be gone by then.
    What to do for fun

    Join clubs, community services activities, and take fun fine arts classes while you can. Also, if you are interested in greek life join a sorority or frat. It is what you make it.
    Food and Dining

    I say three stars because the dining halls have weird hours and aren't open late which sucks because if someone has a late class they may not be able to eat dinner as part of their meal plan. Then making it so you would have to wait till the AM to eat but go buy something instead.
    Dorm Life

    My freshmen year was great and a part of why it was had to do with being in a dorm and meeting so many people who were in the same spot in their lives as I was. It was a great experience.
    Academic Rigor

    It is what you make it and what you take out of it. Just keep up with the work and get in touch with the prof. if you need help. Don't give up on getting that A.
    Tips for prospective students

    If living on campus don't request a dorm that has private bathrooms because the two dorms that have that are old and gross. So shared bathroom down the hall style is actually better when comparing the dorms.

    URI has good academics, a good footprint in green technology, and can be expensive if out of state. The majority of classes I have taken have been great but you will find a few that the jocks like to be in because it is a BS class. So I usually stay away from those. The new freshmen dorm has solar panels on it which is great esp for the transformation towards other ways of energy. Lastly, the school is a bit expensive and sometimes green hall the building which takes care of finances can screw up and say you owe money late in the semester and not allow you to sign up for classes next semester. It can be a pain.

    I joined a club sports team, which takes up a lot of my time, but it was a great way to meet new people and continue playing sports I've played my whole life.
    Food and Dining

    The food is not the best, but I don't expect much.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is awesome. They group students in living learning communities, so people meet each other who are in similar classes. I have met some of my best friends in my hall and dorm.
    Academic Rigor

    Some classes are much harder than others. I've found that the bigger classes (100 level courses) are more difficult in that there is not really a good connection with the professor.
    Tips for prospective students

    The most important thing is stay on top of your work. As long as you stay ahead nothing gets too difficult. Make sure you manage your time well and everything will be fine.

    URI is an awesome school where you meet a lot of new people. The school shows a great balance of rigor and fun, and provides help to any student in need. There is so much to do on and off campus, which makes the school so great to attend.

    What to do for fun

    Sitting out on our beautiful quad in the nicer months is one of my favorite things to do. You can go sledding down our steep hills when it snows, too! There's always something fun going on here.
    Food and Dining

    The food isn't great and you'll want to eat at the restaurants in the Emporium. It can get expensive, but the dining hall food is quite bland most times. It's easy to find food for vegetarians, but it's quite difficult to be a healthy vegan here, unfortunately.
    Dorm Life

    I lived in the brand new dorm, Hillside, for most of my freshman year, but I lived in one of the less aesthetically appealing dorms, Adams, for the first month of the Fall semester. It was a very run-down dorm. Usually, the freshmen dorms are in much better condition than the upperclassmen dorms.
    Academic Rigor

    I am a Doctor of Pharmacy student entering my sophomore year. General education classes aren't ridiculously difficult, but Anatomy and Chemistry II were challenging.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be sure to stay active with your studying habits. It will eliminate a great deal of stress before exams and gives you time to enjoy with your new friends!

    The University of Rhode Island provides the resources students need to move forward and achieve their dreams. Choosing to apply here was the best decision I could have made for a promising future. I'm looking forward to starting my second year in the Fall!
