Great for these types of students

Any student willing to be involved, have a good time in school, and determined to get an education!

    Tips for prospective students

Getting involved in any college is very important. Even if you decide to go somewhere else...GET INVOLVED!! It is such a big help to find people who have the same interests as you. At the University of Toledo there are more than enough organizations to get involved with. Most of them are not very time consuming. When involved with a organization, they help you stay focused. I have currently have a pretty good GPA, which I never would have expected, but I owe it to my involvement. Another good thing to remember is to stay on top of your work. There are tutors available in the basement of the Library. They are there to help, they are free...so use them :-)The University of Toledo is in a great area (at least I think so) The city is not far, and neither is a great shopping/eating area. It has a great balance.

Great for these types of students

If you want great research opportunities, the University of Toledo is perfect for you. They have research opportunities for everyone. They even have a first year summer research experience that is just for first year students. They also have a great medical program and pharmacy program.

    Tips for prospective students

Throughout the first week, go meet people! Don't stay hidden in your room. If there is any sort of bonfire or anything, go to it!! It will never be easier to make friends than it is in that first week. Another suggestion I have is to get involved. There are so many opportunities here but you will never find them if you are afraid to get involved. Attend meetings for clubs that you may think that you won't be interested in. Who knows? Maybe you'll find that you actually like doing something that you never considered. And, you may make friends there. Also, use your professors' office hours. Even if you aren't struggling in their class, go meet them. Let them know who you are and what you're interested in. They may tell you about exciting opportunities, such as study abroad programs. Plus, you never know if down the road you will need their help for a recommendation or something.

    Bang for the buck

All colleges are going to be expensive. They all seem like you aren't getting a big bang for your buck at all. However, the University of Toledo isn't ridiculously expensive so it is better than all of the other schools that I looked at.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is absolutely beautiful. It is a relatively large campus but not at all too big. I can walk to all of my classes in under ten minutes. I have also made a lot of great friends here. We can always find something to do. I am glad that I chose the University of Toledo as my college.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Toledo is an excellent school. In the classes that I am taking right now, I am learning a lot. I feel like by the time I graduate, I will have received an excellent education.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is pretty high if I can say. There are emergency alarms every near 100 feet and security comes very fast. Police cars are frequently driving around places that are highly known for thefts and other bad things, so the rate of problems on campus has been dropping every year more and more.

    Greek Life

I do not know much of the Greek Life as I am not a part of it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to do on campus it's unbelievable. The large amount of interesting people you can meet is truly amazing and is a must-do if you go to college.

Great for these types of students

Everything is great for any kind of student. Any kind of person will find something interesting to do on Toledo campus and that is a given.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only sort of unusual tradition I have seen has been some of the Fraternity moves being done. I've seen people jog around campus in just their shorts and paint on their bodies chanting the names of the fraternity their in so that's always unusual to see.

    Bang for the buck

I would say the music programs. Sure any music program would be decent in college, but Toledo's music program is more interesting than anyone would think if you actually go to it. The Jazz program is very well directed and I would say is worth a good listen to.

    What to do for fun

In college, there is always something fun and interesting to do. From playing basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, and other sports with friends. To joining social clubs to get more connected with people on campus you wouldn't usually see everyday. There's also internships if you aren't as interested in making friends than you are to testing your major interest and want other options.

    Food and Dining

The food and Dining is very good in my opinion. You have the option for either three square meals or just choosing to eat whatever kind of food you choose with your dining dollars. There are many kinds of food places on campus such as Subway, Pizza Hut, etc. While the Off campus food still consists of many other places.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is amazing. The way you can easily interact with your roommates and other people who attend the University makes it easy to build friendships with many people.

    Academic Rigor

The academic level set by the teachers and program are at a high bar by the first day of classes and makes you want to work harder whether you would want to or not.

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to ask for help. Without assistance, things will not go as smoothly as you think it could your first few years there.

    In three sentences

Toledo is a great college with a great business program I would recommend to anyone. The teachers are very helpful, respectful and understanding to your desire to learn more and more. The students are very friendly and also want to help you learn just as much as they do.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student, UT has a very diverse campus and I've never met someone that's not friendly.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, the more you are the more fun you'll have, but always do your homework and class work first.

    Bang for the buck

Great place for an average price.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a lot of fun there's stuff every day and it's posted everywhere, you'd have to try to be bored.

    Am learning a lot

There are several teachers that are easy to learn from, talk to anyone that's taking the classes you are going to and it's easy to find all the good teachers here.

not involved, but did eat their food at fundraiser- yummy

    Clubs and Activities

I am involved with YMCA, Toledo and just love it. The activities and people have all been wonderful.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Loved all the activities planned for Freshman year to help newbies transition in.

    Bang for the buck

I got a great deal on card sales- 30 cents each. I bought quite a few for myself and my Mom. She is very supportive of this addiction.

    What to do for fun

lots of activities and organizations to join. all are worthwhile.

    Food and Dining

I have found I can get tired of pizza, and coffee is good no matter where I get it.

    Dorm Life

Freshman dorm was great for freshman, Ottawa house is great for second year. Will see where my third year takes me.

    Academic Rigor

I am used to tough courses, teachers- University of Toledo does a great job of making people earn their marks, yet it is fun. They have struck a good balance. Teachers have been awesome.

    Tips for prospective students

talk to people, make friends wherever you go. Find a balance of study and student life. The journey is really your destination too.

    In three sentences

I love UT! It is everything I thought it would be. All my friends who are here agree and wouldn't dream of leaving.

    Campus Safety

Maybe about once a year you will hear about someone getting stuff stolen but it's usually from other college students.

    Greek Life

I am a member of Greek Life and as stated before I completely recommend everyone and anyone to try it. I never thought I would go Greek and it has changed me and made me a better person. I love these people and they will be in my wedding.

    Clubs and Activities

    300+ student organizations

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Blue Crew (UT Spirit), Blue Key (Top 13 leaders on campus), Songfest (UT's second oldest tradition)

    Bang for the buck

University of Toledo is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Getting involved in campus is key to making the most of your collegiate experience. All of these people I have met will be my lifelong friends without a doubt. Along with receiving the best college education compared with similar sized universities.

    What to do for fun

Joining Greek Life, student organizations, Hookah bars, bars, house parties, bowling, lasertag, exercising, attending programs held by the university.

    Food and Dining

Food is pretty good. I mean, anything gets old after repetition.

    Dorm Life

Join a freshman only dorm to truly have the college experience. The dorms that are available to upperclassmen may be a little newer/nicer but a lot less social.

    Academic Rigor

The six-year PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) is a very tough program to get into. But once you get in, job placement is 100% and starting out with a $100,000+ salary.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely get involved with student organizations (especially the ones specific to your Major) and Greek Life. There are organizations available for anyone and if you can't find one you like, make your own! If you want to have a great college experience, you have to get out there and be apart of something bigger than yourself.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love my university. If you plan on attending higher education for Pharmacy, Engineering or Business -- The University of Toledo is most definitely the choice for you. Also, if you happen to be outgoing and like meeting new people then check out Greek life; I never thought I would ever go Greek but it has made me a better person and presented me with so many opportunities.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is extremely important at UT. You will find emergency help poles all over campus, so in case of an emergency you can press the button located on that pole and receive help right away! UT has had a couple incidents recently, but what university/college hasn't? Please don't let UT's occasional bad seeds depict your view on our school. As long as you get to your resident halls before dark, and be cautious about who you associate yourself with (like the real world) everything will be fine. We have constant police patrol all over campus 24/7.

    Greek Life

Fraternities and Sororities get their own community to live in. The GREEK LIFE consists of beautiful brick townhouses that present each frat or sororities name in the front in beautiful, colorful images and banners. They participate in many group events and spirit activities for the school.

    Clubs and Activities

SOMA - christian association CRU- christian association TENNIS CLUB SOCCER CLUB LACROSSE CLUB QUID DITCH CLUB - yes, you read correctly! CAMP ADVENTURE- you travel to military bases! SCIENCE CLUB MATH CLUB CHEER LEADING FOOTBALL SOCCER TENNIS FRATERNITY AND SORORITY RECRUITING- so much FUN, GO GREEKS! SWIMMING TRACK AND FIELD AND SO SO SO MUCH MORE.....Can't find the right club for you, then team up with some friends, notify school, and MAKE IT!!

Great for these types of students

UT is the place for you if you are outgoing and open to new things! If you are the school spirit junkie (which is probably 98% of the school), new to the country, Nursing, law, criminal justice, or Business major definitely consider the University of Toledo. Also if you are interested in studying abroad UT is top notch in that area. Oh, and if I did not list your major it doesn't mean you shouldn't apply because I am a freshman so I only know so much.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of my favorite locations on campus is Bowman Oddy's Laboratories. This is home to some math classes, and many Medical field majors. It is the only greenhouse on campus. YES, I SAID GREENHOUSE!

    Bang for the buck

The University of Toledo offers great scholarships, and grants for those who qualify, so keep that GPA and those test scores up! Also, deadlines are major when it comes to applying for some of these scholarships. You actually get a scholarship for just being accepted if you have the qualifying GPA and SAT/ACT scores! By the way, UT has a pretty consistent record for keeping the tuition frozen. Yes, that means tuition has not increased this year or the last two years.

    What to do for fun

There is way too much to do for fun here at UT! Besides the regular college parties we have basketball and tennis courts in numerous locations across campus. In addition we have volleyball nets put up during the good weather. Our recreational center which is huge, houses plenty of treadmills, weight rooms, rock climbing, basketball courts, etc. Oh, and did I forget to mention our Olympic sized Pool with a water slide!!!! lol

    Food and Dining

I love the food here at UT! Enjoy our buffet style dining areas around campus which include many familiar names like SUBWAY, KFC, STARBUCKS, CHIPOTLE, MAGIC WOK (Chinese cuisine), and more! If you don't know, a former football player/ alumni/ NFL star just recently built a strip of restaurants and our brand new Barnes and Noble book store! If you'd rather get your back at home quickies such as yogurt, hot pockets, fruit juice, visit the POD! The POD is the on campus grocery store where they even have fresh deli sandwiches and hot soup made DAILY!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is nice. The dorms range from apartments, fraternity housing, quads, doubles to singles. They actually recently built Ottawa West a new branch of the Ottawa House. This is specifically recommended for athletes. We halls that group you by your major and others that just introduce you to a variety of students! Luckily for incoming freshman (Parks Tower the freshman hall) has a dining hall located inside he building! Everyone is usually very nice and social when it comes to dorm living. You can find workout facilities in some of our halls and a laundry facility as well. Our Resident Assistants (RAs) make it even easier for you to get to know everyone with their constant hall event planning, and 24 hour assistance services to help you in whatever you need!

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo is quite consistent with their level of academics. Depending on your major you will face a more than descent mound of homework and activity each semester. For seniors coming into the Nursing Program the competition is FIERCE! Stay on top of your game High School Seniors and College Transfers! UT specializes its programs to sort of weed out the best candidates to participate in their programs. Therefore the academic rigor is challenging. This school definitely has what you need to prepare you for real world/high demand careers!

    Tips for prospective students

I am an undergraduate student, and a freshman at UT. For those high school seniors migrating here for 2014 I recommend you go on as many tours, incoming freshman events, and orientation, as soon as possible. There is so much to have done by the time you are expected to move in. UT is a convenient size campus, and takes about 15 minutes to get from one end to the other. If you can get acquainted and familiar with your locations and directions the first week of college will be a breeze! I also recommend you use that week to get familiar with the programs and work opportunities for those seniors looking for additional financial assistance in college. Remember, loans are helpful, but sometimes there are alternatives! UT is excellent when it comes to work study programs!

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a beautiful university! The students, staff, and professors are very willing and generous in helping you with your journey to success. Not only does the campus have a wide selection of programs and clubs you can pursue, they also have many ways you can earn money to pay for tuition!

    Campus Safety

Campus is very secure. There is a campus police department. Campus is very well lit, with emergency poles through out campus. And there is also an escort service that will transport students anywhere on campus so they do not have to walk alone at night!

    Greek Life

Greek life is my favorite part of the University of Toledo. I have made lifelong friends, have had countless unique opportunities, and participated in events that I otherwise would not have opened up to.

    Clubs and Activities

There are academic, athletic, social, religious, service, and cultural organizations on campus.

Great for these types of students

UT is great for students who are looking for the all around college experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UT keeps many traditions alive. Every year student organizations compete in a song and dance talent competition, and it is VERY competitive. There is also a spirit rock on campus that is painted by students only between the hours of dusk and dawn. UT is very proud of our spirit crew, Blue Crew, who attend all major university events. Also, one of the academic buildings has rooftop access where students can hang out!

    Bang for the buck

UT is a public University so tuition is a lot more reasonable than many colleges. Many of the professors here were educated and have even taught overseas and at Ivy league universities. Plus campus is enclosed, meaning all the buildings are in one area instead of spread out on main roads. This is beneficial because students can feel more comfortable with the option of heading out to the busier downtown area.

    What to do for fun

Toledo has plenty of options for students. There are many student organizations that focus on social events. I spend most of my free time with my sorority. Near by there is a huge mall with great restaurants and a movie theater. Downtown there are plenty of bars and restaurants as well. Not to mention the Toledo Mudhens and Walleyes' games!

    Food and Dining

The University of Toledo has many options when it comes to dining. There are plenty of buffet style dining halls that all have the main comfort foods, but also a daily special as well. Plus there are plenty of restaurants on campus and in the surrounding areas.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus for two years and I loved it. I met the majority of my friends from living on campus. The University has newer residence halls and great dining options.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo has one of the top Pharmacy programs in the country. It is a very competitive program, but also very rewarding.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in Parks Tower for the best first year experience. Get to know your professors by going to office hours. Get involved in Greek life for the best well rounded experience.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love the University of Toledo. I have had great professors, made great friends, and have had awesome opportunities. I know I made the right decision coming to UT.

    Campus Safety

Safety is a priority on this campus. There are emergency alert buttons placed within sight all across the campus, and there are numbers to call if you have a problem.

    What to do for fun

You will never be bored at this university! There are numerous student organizations to join, and most are very welcoming to all students. Also, there is a large recreation facility that houses a double-sized gym, a large swimming pool, diverse exercise equipment, and much more. In addition, this university is home to the Toledo Rockets, which allows for an exciting time at the football games.

    Food and Dining

There are a wide variety of restaurants and vending machines to meet your appetite at this university. There is a Subway's, a Kentucky Fried Chicken, a Pizza Hut, a Magic Wok, a Greek cuisine, and a few others. There are several vending machines throughout the entire campus with several different kinds of snacks and beverages. The food tastes great on campus, and the prices are generally reasonable.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are sometimes very comprehensive and challenging. It is important you read the material before each lecture, and take notes on the important topics your professor discusses. Sometimes you may be reading anywhere from twenty to forty pages of text a night. As long as you read the text, pay attention in class, and ask questions about things you do not understand, you are likely to be successful. Tutoring and assistance is available if you are having a hard time understanding the material.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you major in something you are seriously devoted to. You will be studying the material in your major very extensively over the course of your time in the program. If you are truly devoted to your major, you will have a much higher chance of success than if you are not. Take the time to study and plan ahead; if you need help, there is a wide ray of options for assistance, such as tutoring and study sessions.

    In three sentences

The students here are very diverse, and the staff are very helpful. Also, this university offers a wide range of programs; yet, it offers various programs specific to the health field. The courses here are comprehensive and challenging, which allows the students to grow in maturity and become devoted to what it is they want to pursue.

Great for these types of students

ROTC, Art?, Sports, and if you want to do pharmacy you are better off going to ONU.

    Tips for prospective students

You will have to fight for a lot of things here. Keep arguing and keep at what you want. Don't take no for an answer. Get involved, you will find others to help you. I found a lot of caring people here and I would be lost without them. Expect to figure almost everything out on your own and if you can help it, don't eat in the Union. There are mice.

    Bang for the buck

If you ever need help expect the line to be out the door. They have one person helping in financial aid and now they have changed the format of Rocket Solution Central so now instead of an hour to help one person it takes two. If you have a problem or need financial help, expect to be there all day. The cost for me was about the same as a private college and I learned absolutely nothing.

    Did enjoy being here

I hated this school. I couldn't wait to go home and the friends I did make here went home too. The school overbooked and accepted too many students and didn't have enough housing. I had to sleep in a lounge for three months with different roommates, my stuff was stolen, and the RA would come up to harass me. The only thing that saved me at this school was a Greek organization. Though I wasn't apart of it, had I not met the people in it I would've failed all my classes and would've had no where to live.

    Did learn a lot

I learned nothing here. In my opinion it is a terrible school. The teachers are mean, the classes are over crowded, financial aid is a mess, and counselors and RA's will not help you. I was basically told that they hire teachers for research and they teach on the side. When you walk into a class most of the teachers in the science and math department do not speak clearly and you will have 500+ students in your class. Also, teachers will tell students they won't pass the class on the first day and intimidate you during exams. Good luck if you go here.

Great for these types of students

This place is great for students if you want a home away from home.

    Tips for prospective students

U.t is a great school but these teachers aren't easy you have to study and do your part to show up to class, but if you do this you should have a great time here there is so much to do. Events are happening all the time an if you join in there is a endless stream of people you will meet. There are so many clubs there is truly something for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

TOTALLY WORTH IT! I mean its thousands of dollars you are putting towards your education and U.T is one of the cheaper ones, but for the experiences you get you would think it would be a lot more.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus it is always so full of life not as much in winter but still. During warm weather there are always so many things going on outside. The student union is a cool place to chill and do homework, the campus is also easy to navigate which is a major plus and you can walk everywhere, there is also so much around the campus so you always have something nearby.

    Am learning a lot

All the teachers that I have had so far have been really intrested in the topic they teach and they seem to know a lot and they lay it out in ways it is easy for students to understand even more for the incoming freshman who aren't used to college life. And even when i don't understand something the teachers have office hours and the will break it down for you or you can attend one of the many learning centers. Sometimes however there are teachers with thick accents but if you pay attention you will understand just fine.

Great for these types of students

UT is great for students that are open to accepting new cultures and beliefs.

    Tips for prospective students

When you come to UT please be an active member on campus. An active member is involved in student organizations, pay attention to changes at UT, and actively participates sharing their voice about how UT can better it's self.

    Bang for the buck

UT is no 'bang for you buck'. I feel this way because I was the manager of the college radio station and sate on the general fee committee, I know how UT budgeting system works. Having this knowledge has changed my view on higher education. I have realized that UT is a business and has no real interest in my education.

    Am enjoying being here

I am really enjoying myself here at the University of Toledo (UT). UT is small enough that you can network with a lot of amazing people. Although the professors are not the best I do enjoy the classes I have taken thus far. UT has opened my mind to things that I did not know where possible.

    Am learning a lot

I am only learning a lot about my major because I take the initiative to self educate. My professors are often uninvolved with the class they are in charge of teaching. Several of my professors are more worried about the book they are writing or the research they are preforming to focus on educated their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get Involved!! It looks great on applications, and it's a great way to not be bored and a great way to challenge yourself. Procrastinate as little as possible because the work piles up fast. Make sure you go to sporting events and other school-wide happenings because that's the single best way to meet people and there are tons of awesome people here.

    Am enjoying being here

Like everyone is saying, there's always something going on. Whether it's an event in the Flatlands, a public announcement in Centennial Mall, or just some friends getting together, you can always fill in free time with something.

    Am learning a lot

Try to do some research on certain profesors because a few of my friends had teachers that the material even more confusing than it already was. On the flipside, I've teachers that actually make learning enjoyable and so far the majority of teachers are like the latter.

Great for these types of students

Ones who aren't afraid to fight for what they believe in, because there are crazy professors out there who will try to bring you down. Also, ones who are caring. I have yet to meet an unkind student here. Plus, if you are into extra-curricular activities, this is a great place for you. There are so many clubs to choose from. There's even one that pretend fights with plastic swords.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a college tour. Learn your way around the campus and where everything is. They offer them quite frequently. Also, go out there on your own at least once before school starts to learn where your classes are. Know where to park as well and do not park where you are not supposed to. You will get a hefty fine if caught (I'm talking in the $100-$200 range). You may have to park far away from your classes for awhile but trust me, it's worth it. It's great exercise and the far walk will give you time to think and relax.

    Bang for the buck

College is going to be expensive where ever you choose to go (unless you have a full ride) but this college applies your dollars honestly. They even have a lab fee (which covers the cost of printer paper) that is meant only for you. For example, you pay them $50 in the beginning of the semester and that gives you 1200 of paper to use for printing in the lab. They even let you see your account balance on every computer when you log in. That way, you know how much you have spent.

    Am enjoying being here

In my opinion, if you choose the right major (something you are passionate about) you will love your time here. The college provides students with so many resources that it makes college quite easy.

    Am learning a lot

I am an education major-specifically in Early Childhood-and I have to say the majority (about 90%) of the professors in this field know what they are doing. They have experience in the field and do an amazing job communicating what we need to know to us. These are the professors you will learn from. However, there are a few who do not practice what they preach and do a horrible job demonstrating for students. They leave us confused and frustrated because things are often done their way, or the highway in there class. These are the professors you will learn little to nothing from.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who live in the area because you really aren't going to miss much and paying for living on campus is about the same as tuition so you save a substantial amount of money.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved; I feel as if I didn't get involved like I have, staying here would be hard. The school is a big commuter school and it definitely shows.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that the price for what I am getting isn't awful but I am sure almost all college students wish the price of going to school was cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

The surrounding area is not exactly pleasing to look at and there really is no school spirit or even administrative support as to making events that students want to go to. I enjoy the people I have met but other than that, it is hard to really find something good out of campus and events.

    Academic Rigor

In some classes I feel I have retained a lot of information but on the other hand, I feel my classes and teachers have left me without knowing that much more than I knew before about the subject. I would also say I have had far more teachers who weren't that good compared to the ones I prefer or would recommend.

    What to do for fun

for things to do for fun, well that just really varies based on the weekend and the weather. it also depends on if you join any groups or clubs. the more you get involved in, the more that there will be to do.

    Academic Rigor

i would give the university of toledo 4 out of 5 stars because it is a very good school and to be honest, i love their grading system. the grading system varies based on the subject, which is really nice. i do really enjoy the grading system when it comes to any science class. the chance of you getting an a goes up greatly, i think because there is more flexibility with any science class.

    Tips for prospective students

i would tell prospective students to go into any college experience with an open mind and don't be afraid to met new people. when making your decision, base it off of what that school has to offer you. don't pick a school because that is where everyone is going or because of the location. make sure that when you are looking at schools, to look at their programs that they offer and make sure that they have your program that you want to go into. go on tours, go on like three four tours. every time you go on a tour your going to see and hear something different. don't be afraid to ask questions, that is they only why that you are going to find things out. also, when deciding on your school, look at their graduation rate and how many people they accept into the program that you want to go into and how often they accept people into the program.

    In three sentences

i would give the university of toledo 8 out of 10; 10 being the best. this is because, even though i like ut, there are a few things that i just don't like. but with anything, your are going to find things that you just don't like. they maybe big things or they maybe small things, it just varies from person to person.

    What to do for fun

sometimes campus can seem pretty dull but there is usually something to do if you have good friends and the ambition to do something. the oasis is pretty fun to go to with friends and get food. there is signs posted around campus on a usual basis advertising things although i have never been to any of them, i imagine that some of them will be fun to attend. the football games are also very fun to attend.

    Food and Dining

the food is a lot better then some places i have been but you can still go somewhere on campus and get bad food. a lot of people dislike parks tower's dining hall but it can be good some days. you will find yourself walking there more then you think because it's close(unless you live in the crossings or ottawa).

    Dorm Life

i stayed in carter west my first year and so far it has been a blast. i found that carter and parks tower offer the best experience as a first year student. they are not the nicest dorms and they have community bathrooms but the community bathrooms are defiantly tolerable. you can actually meet new people easier because it forces you to come out of your room to use the restroom. the other dorms are campus are a lot nicer but also keep the people inside more secluded and when you don't anyone this may not be the best option.

    Academic Rigor

the professors really try to help you learn the material before the exam comes. the work can be tough depending on what classes you take and especially if you are a pharmacy major. the work load man get tough but it is also manageable because of supplemental instruction and professor office hours.

    Tips for prospective students

be open to meeting new people and keep your door open during the first week. you will meet most of your friends during the first month of school. there is an enormous diversity of people at the university of toledo, so no matter who you are or where you come from, you will find people to fit in with immediately. all it takes is looking!

    Academic Rigor

maybe because i took 5 classes it feels like i'm always playing the catch-up game, so i have to use my weekends to keep up with all the homework we have. also, there's no such thing as cramming for the test one night before, it takes about 10 hours to review/re-learn the material in such classes as biology and chemistry and the article and book reading in anthropology seems to be overwhelming yet still possible.

    Tips for prospective students

keep up with your work especially with the online homework. if you look at it as a video game (except it's with science terms), all the practice exercises and quizzes can make your in-class experience so much fun. there's always somebody who can help you in the tutoring department for those who need one-on-one so don't be afraid to ask for help (and it's free to you).

    In three sentences

compared to the other 3 colleges/universities i attended in the past, university of toledo stands out by at least a mile for many reasons. first, all of my professors are funny and friendly and teach clearly, understandably, and at pace i can follow (if things get overwhelmed i get great tutoring for free in the library). last but not least, since i'm a visual learner the online quizzes/tests, homework, tutorials, videos, pictures, flashcards and other study tools help me tremendously especially in the science classes such as biology and chemistry.

    What to do for fun

If you're interested in night life, UT does have a good variety of bars and clubs in the area including Chasers (club/bar), the Ale House (club/bar) the Oasis (restaurant downstairs, hookah bar upstairs) and Zodiac (club). Chasers and the Ale House often have themed nights and specials, just follow them on Twitter and you'll know all about what's going on every night. If that's not your thing, the Rec center is not only a great workout facility it has a pool including a hot tub and water slide, ping pong and pool tables and multiple basketball courts, a turf field and volleyball nets inside and out. UT has a variety of clubs and organizations to get involved with as well as a large Greek community.

    Food and Dining

The University of Toledo has great dining services. Each dining hall has a variety of food options for every meal including freshly made to order omelets for breakfast (my favorite!). The buffet style dining halls switch up the options every day while leave some staples like a salad bar and grill which includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches. The dining halls all have different hours so it is usually not hard to find somewhere that is open when you're hungry. Other options include Subway, Starbucks, KFC, Magic Wok, Pizza Hut and Croutons in the Student Union and the Palette Cafe at Ottawa East.

    Dorm Life

Make sure to tour the dorms and read their descriptions before making your decision. Dorms like The Crossings and Parks Tower are known for being much more social and lively. Other dorms like Ottawa East and Ottawa West are much quieter and private. Both can be good places to live it's just important that you know what you want your dorm life to be like.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo often gets a bad rap from the students that live in the surrounding Toledo area as being an easy school but that is not true. Classes at UT can be very challenging. I have never taken a class that did not require an impressive amount of work. Even electives require attention. The University of Toledo will prepare you for your career.

    Tips for prospective students

I would strongly recommend visiting the campus before you apply and after seeing the campus make sure to drive around the surrounding area as well. Ask current students that lead your visit at UT what they like about the area and what they dislike. Toledo can be a great fit for some but you have to make sure it is the right fit for you. If you enjoy the feel of a city then you might like Toledo. If you prefer a smaller college town atmosphere then it might now be the college for you.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a college with excellent academic programs and good, clean, updated facilities. Unfortunately, the surrounding area does not feel as much like a college town as other colleges do. It is in the middle of a very big city so it has more of a city feel than a small college town.

    Campus Safety

Crime happens often and the response team is slow and inefficient. I have to constantly watch my back when I'm out after dark.

    Clubs and Activities

While the University advertises a large number of them, many no longer exist or have been thrown under the bus by the University because it doesn't think that certain organizations are worthy of students' time.

Great for these types of students

Boring; suicidal; dorm-rat; tech savvy; those not in it to learn, but to make it impossible for others to learn; depressed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a rock. People are encouraged to paint it. Also, we hold a gaming convention once a year. That's about it.

    Bang for the buck

The important part is the education, yes, but the University is not at all hospitable. No food, sub-par amenities, and high price make for an atrocious experience that's not worth the money.

    What to do for fun

Absolutely nothing happens on this campus. Occasionally the student activities committee does a little thing in a little room with maybe 75 people. Off-campus there's nothing but strip clubs and bars. It's dismal, really.

    Food and Dining

Terrible. The food is sub-par and the cafeterias are never clean. It's disgusting, really. They close down the main cafeteria at 4 P.M. and the only place to use your meal plan is at a cafeteria. The other ones that are open require a hike across campus: they're well out of your way. Next year they are going to make more cuts to the meal plan, leaving you starving and still spending the same exorbitant amount of money.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life sucks. Because the University is low on money, rooms that used to be singles are now doubles and rooms that used to be doubles are now quads. It's very cramped. They don't even bother to sell food many of the dorms, even in vending machines.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo has a challenging program. It weeds out those who can't do it in the first few months. Classes are generally entertaining and informative.

    Tips for prospective students

    Look elsewhere.

    In three sentences

UT has a wonderful education program (particularly in engineering). However, many of the staff lack competence and don't do things right. Expect many screw-ups regarding your academic and financial information.

    Campus Safety

The on-campus safety is excellent. The campus has their own police department and has a fast response rate. The police make themselves visible so people know if they need them, they are there. Also, there are blue emergency posts located all around campus (4 within visual distance at any given time).

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a huge part of the university. There is on-campus Greek housing, called McComas Village. There are several houses in there for different sororities and fraternities. The Greek village is always having different events to try and get people involved on campus and to meet new people.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of on campus organizations and clubs to join, there is something for everyone. The sports teams here are division 1 sports so they are always fun to go watch and a lot of people take pride in going to a school with such great sports teams.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for all types of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every Fall there is a bonfire in the flatlands (which is a large flat open area), to welcome everyone back. In the flatlands, there is a rock that everyone always paints to show pride and to advertise for different things such as football games and Greek Week.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Toledo is the perfect size school, it's generally a commuter school so it is not too big, but not too small. There is a lot of things to do here. The campus is spaced out evenly so you aren't on top of everything, but buildings and classes are still close enough to walk to. The sport's teams here are worth going to watch and the staff and students here have a lot of school spirit and pride.

    What to do for fun

There are several different groups and on campus organizations to join. There is also a few local parks, a zoo, a shopping mall, a bowling alley, and is just minutes away from downtown Toledo.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls and different places to eat on campus always have something different and have options for everyone. The staff is friendly and the places are always clean.

    Dorm Life

Living in a residence hall is a great experience. I have lived in one for 2 years and I love it. It is a great way to meet new people, form study groups and make like long friends. Everyone treats everyone nicely, even the Hall Directors and the Resident Advisors.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo has rules and stick to their rules, but they are not too strict.

    Tips for prospective students

College is different than High School. You have to go to your classes, study and do homework. Your professors want to see you succeed, so if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask because chances are, other students have the same questions.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a great school. Here I feel like the professors really care about your success and future. I would give this university a 10/10.

    Food and Dining

Food is very good and the dining services are excellent. But do change up your eating routine or it will get old and seem less desirable.

    Dorm Life

I am not a fan of dorm life. I don't like the community bathrooms or being surrounded by so many people. If you are into the community atmosphere then dorms are a great place to make good friends quickly.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging but doable. You do have to work hard, good grades don't come easily. As long as you study and go to class, classes aren't too challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students are: stay involved, it will make your college experience that much greater; study hard; and use your resources throughout campus, you are paying for them, might as well use them.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo has a great campus, that is very inviting and safe. This University has very good educators, that care about the students and are really trying to help each student succeed. All the students and faculty members are very friendly and make the college environment very nice.

    Food and Dining

The food is good and there is a little bit of everything. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday including weekends. There is also a variety of foods for the many different palettes students may have.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very fun, experiencing living alone without parents. You are able to make many friends with all the other students who live in the dorms also. There is always something to do within your dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is what you make it. The school work is not too challenging as long as you know to manage your time wisely. Also the classes can be picked to your liking so that should not be much of a problem.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should make sure that this is where they want to be by for sure coming to visit the campus. They should make sure the university has there major. Also they should make sure that college is the place they really want to be because it is a lot of work.

    In three sentences

I would rate the University of Toledo a solid 8 out of 10. This school gives me everything I want in a school. The reason I gave it a 8 out of 10 is because it is not home and I miss my family.

Campus Life can sometimes be on edge. with people coming from all over to that university they might not always see eye to eye but Toledo campus has one of the best safety programs. With campus police on duty 24/7 it is a safe environment all the time

    Greek Life

Speaking from a third person point of view, Greek life seems to be the road to take while in college. You make new friends; not just for a short period of time either these are your brothers/sisters for life and this isn't just in the university you attend it's everywhere the Greek life takes place.

    Clubs and Activities

Toledo also provides intramural sports for students that aren't involved in the Varsity sport life. You also have the opportunity to party every once in a while to release some academic tension.

Great for these types of students

For the academic students really about their work. Toledo has an amazing Library with tons of resources to help you get the grades you want.

Dorm life was okay, I only stayed there a semester because it costs WAY TOO MUCH and just wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. There weren't many activities the dorm staff put together so we could meet a lot of the other residents. Campus Safety

The police force on campus is really nice and some of them take their jobs seriously (and by that I mean kick some butt), but they can't work miracles and there are limits to what they're allowed to do. Take dorm safety seriously and lock your door every single time. There was a string of robberies that took place during fire drills in one of the dorms last year.

    Clubs and Activities

They have tons of clubs to join and activities to participate in that are relatively easy to join.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The spirit rock/walk. There's a big rock in the middle of campus that gets painted by the clubs and Greek life all the time. The sidewalk next to it gets painted as well.

    Bang for the buck

The campus is beautiful, the staff is okay and the meal plans are a waste of money.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of clubs and activities to join in on, and there are parties at least once a week that a lot of people are invited to.

    Food and Dining

They have plenty of dining halls, but most of the time the food has been sitting out for hours. I've gotten sick off the dorm food plenty, and I know others who have as well. However, there are plenty of off campus restaurants that are close that you can go to that accept rocket dollars.

    Dorm Life

Everyone on campus is really friendly and helpful. You should get to know your resident adviser (RA), because they can be really helpful.

    Academic Rigor

The classes aren't going to be easy (my view may be a little skewed since I'm an engineering major). The professors won't do your work for you and most of them won't approach you if your having trouble in the class, so you have to make sure you stay on top of your work yourself. However, the professors are understanding of certain situations which can affect your work, so don't be afraid to talk to them.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get the biggest meal plan there is. It's going to be the most expensive and the flex 10 plan has plenty of money and meal swipes, I promise you won't starve on it. Also try to get to know your roommates before you move in to the dorm, their phone numbers are probably on the housing page with their descriptions.

    In three sentences

The other students and some faculty are really nice. A good number of professors are hard to understand and don't teach well, so check online at myprofessor.com to do some background research before signing up for classes. Most of the dinning halls have really bad food.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is fantastic! It is a great way to meet new people. I highly recommend living on campus for at least the first year at the university. The dorms are decent. The more expensive dorms are very nice, but the less expensive dorms are much less desirable.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the class, the academic rigor can be high or low. The main factor in academic rigor is the professor teaching the class.

A tradition that goes a long way at The University of Toledo is TOL-EDO . This chant can be heard mostly at football games, basketball games, etc, but this chant can as easily be heard while walking on you way to your 8am class. So if you heard someone call out TOL! don't be afraid to yell EDO!

    Bang for the buck

The University of Toledo is a good stepping stone for students wanting to achieve a higher goal. While at Toledo you will gain responsibility, structure and everlasting memories.

    What to do for fun

At the University of Toledo you will always have something going on from football games, basketball games, soccer games, etc. You can also find fun things on flyers posted up around campus and in your dorm. Living in dorms you have a lot of planned events that allow you to meet and interact with people in your dorm.

    Food and Dining

The best dining halls I've been to so far even after visiting several top elite ivy league schools. The University of Toledo dining halls are so good because they cater to every racial background by providing dishes that are from those nationalities. The best dining hall there is on campus is Ottawa Dining Hall.

    Dorm Life

Everyone must experience dorm life because it allows you to grow and learn more about yourself as a person.

    Academic Rigor

Professors strive to help students individually to succeed because they would rather take the time to help the student pass than to allow the students to fail.

    Tips for prospective students

Although the University of Toledo has a large campus its not to overwhelm you, but to make you crave to explore. Get to know the campus because the more you know the campus the easier it is to commute to your classes. Also get involved in an activity that is outside your boundaries. I say because getting involved on campus will help you become more diverse, and simply meet new people. Lastly just have fun but make sure you control your college experience don't let college control you.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is an outstanding school that encourage students to exceed their academic abilities. This school success is due to the high interactions between professors with their students on first name bases. There have been many recent changes in the food around campus. They have plenty of choices and the free food and well as the food that cost are great!

    Academic Rigor

Most of the professors are very understanding and helpful, but there are a few that can be difficult. You can determine which teachers to take by using an online professor-rater. There is also a writing center and tutoring available in the library. If you use this to you advantage, school will only be as difficult as you make it.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend that new students get out of their shells and become active members in the different groups and activities. Also take advantage of the aids available and ways to become expertise in their fields early on.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe on Toledo's campus. But that doesn't mean that it isn't unsafe. Toledo is a major city, and there is crime. During the day, campus is totally safe. In the early hours of the morning, they have patrols circling campus. In the evening, there is a special service provided by the university free of charge to walk you to your dorm or car. There are blue safety poles all over campus. As with any university, if you are careful, then it is safe. If you are careless, then you may end up in trouble.

    Greek Life

There is a great Greek presence on campus. Greek life here isn't overwhelming, and definitely isn't necessary to be someone, but is an option for those who want to go Greek. There are social, professional, and honorary sororities and fraternities, each distinct in their own way. There is a sorority or fraternity for everyone at Toledo.

    Clubs and Activities

Toledo has TONS of clubs. There are clubs for sports, religions, languages, games, and everything in between. The clubs are constantly hosting activities. If you can't find the club you want, you can make it; all it takes is ten people.

Great for these types of students

Toledo is great for students that want to go to school in a city, but not a huge city. It is great for people on a budget who want a great education. It is perfect for people who want to customize their college experience to what they want it to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The biggest tradition of campus is painting the rock. In the center of campus, ther is a large rock that is painted every night, if not more than once a night, during football season, and at least once a week otherwise. Anyone can paint it, and everyone does. We also have the tradition of Blue Crew, the secret, mask & jumpsuit wearing society of super-fans that attend all sporting events and most major activities on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The University of Toledo is one of the most reasonably priced colleges in Ohio. It is public, so you don't have ridiculous private school costs. If you decide to attend Toledo for one of its really great programs (medicine, engineering, etc), you are going to get a degree that is respected like private schools for the public school price.

    What to do for fun

There are a few dance clubs around the university, as well as a couple of bars. The mall is great, and there are a couple of great hookah bars and restaurants very close to campus. There is also a cheap bowling alley about 5 minutes from campus. There is often something going on on weekends, weather hosted by the university, a club, or your residence hall. If none of that sounds fun, there are always parties to go to.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good, but there isn't that much variety. The staples of burgers, chicken, and salad are always offered at every dining hall, but sometimes the other options are not so appetizing. The variety of food available on weekends is limited. If you decide not to use meal swipes, there is a lot of food available, such as a Mediterranean restaurant, Chinese, pizza, and other fast food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are pretty good. Some are a bit small, but the university offers a 'Living Learning Community' option, which makes dorm life very fun. You can live with people in similar majors to yours, and that means that everyone on your floor will be doing the same homework and be in the same classes. The suite style living is much better in terms of room size than living in the regular dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on how much you put in. You can breeze through by taking all of the easy classes, or you can take the honors section and know that you will be taking a more challenging class. There is a huge variety of classes, both honors or non-honors, in all levels of difficulty.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are not sure where you want to apply, be sure to submit an application to The University of Toledo. Although it may be many peoples fall back school, it is the school of choice for many other students. Give this school a chance, and you may end up falling in love with it like I did.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a great school for everyone. It has a very welcoming atmosphere, and it is incredibly easy to make friends here. It has some of the best programs available in its offered majors, and for a price that is hard to beat!

There are a wide variety of students here. This school is for the outgoing and the shy. I came a timid person and now I'm out of my shell. Toledo might 'only' be 21,000 students but the people here are amazing. Campus is really nice and I feel so much at home when I'm here.

    What to do for fun

There is always some event going on on campus. There are multiple volleyball courts, tennis courts, and basketballs scattered around campus. There are many team sports to watch and club sports to join for the non-elite players. There are game rooms in every dorm building. There are events such as foam parties, highlighter parties, and bonfires. There are TONS of clubs on campus, religious and non religious, political, the list goes on and on.

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is pretty good. There are about 5 all you can eat places on campus. There is also Phoencia's, little convenient stores, chain restaurants in the student union, and a place called iCrave where you can get late night food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are all nice. The University of Toledo has single living, double living, quads, and even six-person rooms. You get to pick where you live so you should make the most of it. The freshman dorm is called Parks Tower. It might not be the newest or nicest dorm but being a freshman living in that building is crucial. Everyone keeps their doors open and there are lots of things going on at all times. There are also suite style rooms with private bathrooms in Ottawa and the Crossings. These are the nicest dorms on campus but living cost is higher than any other dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor changes depending on your major, the class level, and the teacher. Make sure you do your research before making your schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Do everything you can cram into your week surrounding your classes and workload. Make sure to find the correct place on campus to study; its different for everyone. Most of all, make the most of everything and network with whoever you can; you're in the big leagues now!

We have our own police, and emergency telephones pretty well placed throughout main campus. There's also UT alert, which sends out emails and texts when there's an emergency and when the university is closed.

    What to do for fun

As far as I know, there isn't too much to do for fun on a regular basis. There are occasionally movie showings in the Union and the Field House, and the Center for Visual Arts on art campus has french movie showings a couple times a month. The Museum of Art is worth checking out, and it's free.

    Food and Dining

The Union has Subway, Magic Wok, KFC Express, Pizza Hut, and a salad place, pretty average stuff. There's also Rocky's Grill, which I think is also pretty average but is always packed. The best place to eat here is Phoenicia, on the top floor of the union, which has really good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, and pretty decent prices.

    Dorm Life

I'm a commuter, and I've only briefly visited dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor will always vary among programs, but I've seen students here doing some pretty impressive work. Psychology students do original research, and linguistics students do field work. I've heard of anthropology students also doing fieldwork. Seniors in the engineering department are expected to present original designs. 1000-2000 level classes tend to be really easy, but you can still learn a lot from them. Upper-level classes can get pretty intense; class sized can get tiny, so there's a lot of contact with the prof, and you have to know your stuff.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit us! Find students who are studying what you're interested in, and see how they feel about it. Every department is different.

There's tons to do both on and off of campus! Get a group of friends and go to the mall on the UT bus (free) or enjoy a nice walk through the Art Museum! There's always fun things to do on campus you just have to know your surroundings and pay attention to all of the flyers and signs.

    Food and Dining

The food, depending on what you're use to isn't so bad. It's actually better than some home cooked meals.

Dorm life and your dorm experience is based solely on the hall you decide to live in. For example, I live in I-House ( International House) where we have numerous activities and icebreakers dedicated to introducing all residents to the ethnic diversity in that particular living community. It's amazing and I love it!

    Bang for the buck

College is something you have to spend money on, but Toledo isn't raising their tuition next year. They give you enough meal swipes and plenty of dining dollars for food, and I haven't spent much money except at the mall. Oh, but the bookstore is a rip off. BUY YOUR BOOKS ONLINE.

    What to do for fun

Besides things on campus, there are pretty decent clubs/bars, a really nice mall and restaurants, and it's surprisingly safe around campus and the mall.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit, get involved as soon as possible (GO GREEK!), and start studying a little everyday. It will be pretty easy.

    Campus Safety

I know that a lot of the locations around the campus and in the city have installed new emergency light boxes. Where you just push a button in an emergency and these are placed throughout a lot of the more popular areas - mall, restaurants, and near some of the clubs. However, that being said Toledo is a hot bed for human trafficking and it's best to be careful where you go and not to go certain places at night by yourself.

    Bang for the buck

Toledo is definitively a school that gives back for what you pay. An in-state student has a very low tuition and even then there are many scholarships and financial aid packages that the University is willing to give to students who need it. You just need to give them a call and ask them some questions about it.

    What to do for fun

Toledo is what you make of it. As a resident that's the best advice I can give - if you don't actively try to find something to do there won't be anything; especially if you aren't a university student. However, as a college student there are a lot of opportunities at the college and you can definitively have a good time at cedar point - which is in Sandusky about an hour and a half drive from Toledo.

    Food and Dining

Toledo has a lot of options for dining and the city has a large range of foods from Indian to Chinese, and Mediterranean to American. There is practically everything if you really look for it. A lot of the restaurants near campus are good as well and give a lot of student discounts.

    Dorm Life

I wouldn't know this for sure since I'm just researching the school; however, I have been told that the dorms are nice.

    Academic Rigor

From what I know of the students and the open enrollment if you go to the regular college you won't be as challenged as you would at a higher tier school. The honors college is more vigorous but is still rather lower than the more selective schools. However, The University of Toledo has a wonderful engineering program so if you're looking to go into that career I'd definitively suggest looking at UT.

    Tips for prospective students

I would look at their Honors program. It's a very nice program offered that gives special scholarships to the students and has a different way of teaching than the regular college. From what I know the students learn outside of the classroom through video lectures and inside the classroom are more hands-on. Honors students are also offered the option of a separate dorm.

    Campus Safety

Campus overall is fairly safe. But with any campus, stray away from walking alone at night. Safety is often found in numbers.

    Greek Life

Greek life is amazing! There are 14 sororities and fraternities whose houses are on campus, but there are many others as well! UT has 8 Panhellenic sororities, 9 Interfraternity Council fraternities, as well as the Divine Nine of the National Pan-hellenic Council sororities and fraternities. There are also many fraternities and co-ed groups based around community service and specific majors.

Great for these types of students

UT is great for students who are looking to get the most out of the college experience!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

University Hall, Blue Key, Blue Crew, Songfest

    Bang for the buck

UT is what you make of it. If you are from out of town and seem to keep to yourself - transfer now! If you are just there to go to class and that's it, then I don't think this would be a good college for you. If you are looking for involvement, student pride, and lifelong friends, then UT is definitely worth the sometimes crazy price!

    What to do for fun

While there is not much to do on campus for fun; hence why many people turn to smoking weed, if you are willing to drive 15 minutes there are a lot of things to do! The mall is great, and the more you get used to the area the more willing you are drive to go do fun things!

    Food and Dining

The food at UT is not up to par. Not many healthy options and the food stands in the Union have had infestation of bugs. I would avoid on campus dining at all costs.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice and it is great to meet people through. The nicer the dorm the more expensive it is. Stay away from Carter - while it is cheap the quality of people that are there are not worth the savings!

    Academic Rigor

While medical majors and engineering majors have very rigorous classes, many other are simply not hard to do well in.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to not have classes with foreign professors, though sometimes it is inevitable. Always go to class because many professors are sticklers on attendance. Stay on your professors' good sides because they do not feel bad failing you for minute things.

    In three sentences

While the campus is beautiful, the school is very corrupt. Tuition continues to increase to pay for people in powers' salaries while more teachers are getting cut. Thus, class sizes are increasing and the quality of education is not very good.

    Campus Safety

I've never felt unsafe being on campus before. There are many services provided by the University to ensure that students feel safe. I've taken advantage of some of them myself.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big deal here considering the size of the campus. There are many ways to get involved.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons! If you have a hobby, there is probably a club for you here.

Great for these types of students

UT is well-known for its college of pharmacy and engineering. If you're interested in math or science, UT is definitely for you. UT also has a very large number of business and education students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our rec center is pretty well known due to its interesting design. My favorite tradition celebrated at UT is the annual Relay for Life event. It is a huge event that most students participate in and raise money for cancer research. It's definitely something I recommend experiencing.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that overall, tuition is appropriate for the experience that is given at UT.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty of things to do on and off campus. Places like the zoo, art museum, mall, and movie theater are all very close but will require a vehicle to get to. Campus activities, that are often free, are all over the place. There are tons of organizations to get involved in as well. All athletic events are free to students!!

    Food and Dining

Excellent food! Tons of variety and generally great hours. Be careful when picking a meal plan though, often times you end up with way more than you need.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! All dorms are very close to multiple dining facilities and are a maximum of a 15 minute walk to classes. I highly recommend staying in one of the Ottawa buildings, I lived there for two years.

    Academic Rigor

If you attend classes regularly and are attentive, classes will be tough but manageable. Classes vary greatly depending on professor and field of study.

    Tips for prospective students

The thing that will help students the most is going to their classes. Also, keeping their end goal in mind and planning their classes and activities accordingly is imperative. If you are planning pursuing further education after undergrad, beware of application deadlines and requirements.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a relatively small campus that encourages students to be well-rounded individuals. Education and getting involved on campus and in the community are equally valued. I'm proud to call myself a Rocket.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe with blue emergency poles everywhere. The Toledo Police is on site at all times and there is even a night parole that can take you places on campus if you call them.

Great for these types of students

The sales and administration for Business seems to be a big hit and the Business classes I took were the better classes I had. Engineering students get an awesome co-op program, however Computer Science and Electrical Engineering should be avoided due to lack of decent professors.

    Bang for the buck

Need better professors but the co-op program is quite astounding and learn a lot from just a single semester with a company. The first year is a blast with all the activities they offer, but after that there is very little to do on campus.

    What to do for fun

There is quite a bit activities on campus to have fun. You could join a fraternity or sorority as they plan a lot of activities throughout the year. The big activities are Humans vs Zombies where a lot of students basically play a big game of tag with nerf guns and such (look it up if you have the time). Another is the dance marathon that is a fundraiser, but it's also tons of fun. However the surrounding area of Toledo is very empty with alcohol and hookah being the only two close things to campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is a little bit overpriced, but is generally good. It is all buffet style with a convenience store on campus as well. The buffet is good at first, but eventually it becomes a hit and miss with some days being good and others bad. The food doesn't vary enough so you will get tired of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads every day. Luckily dining and rocket dollars do offer another option of getting fast food on and off campus, such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, Taco Bell, and Magic Work.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are an awesome opportunity because you get to meet a lot of students that are in the same boat as you. You even get to potentially meet classmates better so those challenging homework assignments become much more of a breeze. However, suite-style rooms should be avoided at least for the first year. There is very little activity going on in suite-style buildings and meeting people is hard because people never leave there rooms. Both style of building do lack in activities at times.

    Academic Rigor

The reason I rate this lower is because sometimes the challenge isn't fair. There is a lot of times where you will run into having an exam that wasn't covered in class and barely any of the information comes from the book either. Once in awhile, you'll also have classes that are super easy, while another makes you want to quit every day. Usually the harder classes are attainable but you will struggle if you don't put effort into doing the homework, reading the materials, and/or talking to the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

The computer science and electrical engineering department are lacking on educators with a fresh perspective in the field. With 4 professors on tenure and 2 that just retired, the youngest professor teaching the major is above 60.

    In three sentences

A campus that appears to be the beautiful and exhilarating experience you were looking for. Majority of the professors in the engineering department have a passion for student's education, but aren't properly equipped to teach. The co-op program is the most amazing feature the college has to offer.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. I work and study late past the hours of 1 am and there are escorts there to either take you home or during certain periods of time to walk you to your dorm or bus. There are various police or safety emergency help locations through campus so if you are in trouble there is always one near by. The campus police is located not to far on campus as well and they do routine drives through campus as well during the day and night.

    Greek Life

Greek life is present during athletic games and homecomings, but not to much-during the academic year all year round.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are pretty nice. There is a lack in minority clubs though.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for individuals who like to be a part of a large body of students with various ethnicities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual tradition is the painting of the spirit rock by organizations. Where and organization will paint the rock at night and camp out to make sure no one paints over it during the night.

    Bang for the buck

No, I would not say it's more bang for your Buck. The school has so many miscellaneous fees and a number of people have no clue as to what they are going to. For example, their might be an event on campus and it is labeled as free food and games when in reality the University had you pay for the event before the year started through those miscellaneous fees and not to many people show up so it's a waist.

    What to do for fun

For fun i tend to go to the various activities held by clubs of my ethnicity that are on campus like poetry slams, Greek life events, and organizations based on my gender that have events as well.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good depending on where you go. They have changed a lot of things over the past three years that I have attended. The meal plans are not worth the price especially if you live off campus and commute. There are restaurants in the student union which is also nice.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very expensive for you to be sharing it with either one-six people. They can become loud and in some cases a hassle and that's on the price per semester aspect.

    Academic Rigor

There is a high standard set by some professor's even one's that are at low level's. If the pace becomes to much a lot of the time speaking with a teacher helps and in some cases it does not.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students would be to find something that you would like to join immediately the people you meet there will be very helpful in your success. Do not stress yourself out if you need help with things there are various places you can go, but they are not posted on the bulletin board so you would have to just ask someone.

    In three sentences

I would say it is a fairly decent University. The majority of the individuals that you meet are very welcoming. However being a person from a low-class minority background there are limited activities on campus for these individuals.

    Academic Rigor

For those that feel the need for a challenge, there are definitely classes here that are challenging. There are science and math classes of the highest degree and there are plenty of students that push themselves to their best.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say definitely buy your books after the first time you have each of your classes because some classes don't need you to have a textbook. It'll save you a lot of money.

    In three sentences

University of Toledo is a great place. There are places to study everywhere, different food options for each day, and the teachers are really helpful. Not only that, but the campus is gorgeous

There are police and night watch patrolling campus at all times. There are also response alert hubs all around the campus.

    Clubs and Activities

A good variety of options ranging from academic to simply social.

    Bang for the buck

It is not the biggest campus or most exciting, but it is a good University to attend regardless.

    What to do for fun

The Recreation Center is a really great way to burn time and has a variety of things to do. You could also join an intramural team, or attend one of the varsity sports games. There are also some campus sponsored events that occur occasionally. Other than what is listed above you can party.

    Food and Dining

The food is not great, but it is good and there are a variety of selections. The halls are not very big in terms of size. It also seems like the hours of operation could be improved.

    Dorm Life

Depending on your selection it can be very sociable and exciting, others are less exciting which can also be a positive note. My recommendations are Academic House for freshman.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Toledo holds the standard of most universities and is fairly challenging. There is a variety of work given from laboratories, to online work.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk with as many as possible about their view of campus life, and the campus itself. Get to know your department majors faculty. Attend any events you can because there are not many.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a quiet, small University. Though it may appear to be larger it is not, the main for this is because it is located in Toledo, OH. However, despite that aspect it is still a great University for undergraduate studies.

    Food and Dining

Not the greatest but it's okay.

    Dorm Life

Could only do it one year for a reason.

    Academic Rigor

Some teachers are harder than others. It really just depends on the subject and the type of learner you are. Geology classes are really easy to some because tests might consist of just naming a bunch of rocks, while to other students their memory problems concerning names make this task really difficult and they excel more in thought provoking questions like the ones typically found in liberal art subjects such as Psychology.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay ahead of the game don't wait until a teacher assigns reading to do it if you already know which subjects are going to be covered from your book. Make lots, I mean a ton of time, to study for some classes like chem and bio the exams from almost all of the teachers are extremely difficult. UT takes safety very seriously. You can sign up for UT Alerts that send text messages straight to your phone! (Totally free!) It sends information incase of emergencies and also school closings. They also have blue emergency buttons throughout campus that notify campus police that you or someone is in trouble. On every student ID card is a direct number to the campus police that you can call.

    Clubs and Activities

Take advantage of the large gym and other activities at Rec Center.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a garden on top of one of the buildings that overlooks the entire main campus. Its really close to the bell tower and is a cool sight to see at night! During the holiday months, the bell tower will play different music like for Christmas and Halloween! We also have an actual rocket mounted near our football stadium that is directed toward Bowling Green's campus (our arch rival!)

    Bang for the buck

The University of Toledo's tuition is fairly reasonable considering the level of education you receive. UT offers great scholarships and is very helpful with transfer students.

    What to do for fun

Aside from the clubs and activities, UT is notorious for their school spirit. Attend the football games and cheer on your fellow Rockets! UT also has a Music Fest at the beginning of every school year. Local and big-name bands perform on the campus grounds.

    Food and Dining

UT's student union has many restaurants for students to choose from. They have Starbucks, Subway, Pizza Hut, Magic Wok, KFC and a salad bar. They also have the Rocky's Pub & Grill restaurant located in the student union. Whatever you're craving, they have it covered!

    Dorm Life

This does not apply to me.

    Academic Rigor

The workload can be very heavy, so I take advantage of the resources at UT's library. For example, there is the Writing Center and the Learning Enhancement Center. The Writing Center is a great way to edit all of your papers and/or essays. They will review your entire paper and give you the proper feedback to help you improve. The Learning Enhancement Center has specific times set aside for classes like, Biology, Chemistry and Math to help students with their homework. These centers are usually ran by grad students or teaching assistants, so they understand the material you're going through.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend becoming involved with the school and joining a club. If you're not interested in the many different clubs they offer, then at least be sociable. Making connections with your peers is very important. You can form study groups within your major and also make friends! Make sure to also speak with your advisors as much as possible, so you are taking the right steps to achieve your short and long term goals in your college career.

    In three sentences

UT has a great way of making each student have the college experience whether you live on campus or commute. Students come from all over the country to attend the University of Toledo. UT is a big campus and they offer many opportunities to ensure your success after you graduate.

There's lots of awesome traditions and locations on UT's campus! Traditions: Our university seal is located in a concrete pedestal in the center of centennial mall (our main academic area of campus). When walking past the seal, you always walk by it with your heart closest! If you dont' there's a god chance you will fail your next exam! I walk around it a couple times a week for soome good luck! Just to keep those BGSU falcons on their toes we have our famous UT rocket pointed right at their 50 yard line :) Locations: On top of Stranahan Memorial we have an wesome roof top garden that students have access to! We also have the first water slide ever on a college campus! It's still one of only a few at universities in the country. GO BLUE THUNDER! (That's the name of the water slide :) If you're into heights you can also check out of high ropes course or our rock wall in the Rec Center too! Safety precautions are always maximized.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive for everyone! I mean hey, that's why I'm trying to earn scholarships! Although the thought of paying back my loans is unsettling, I have as many resources on campus as I could imagine to help me acheive my goals, so the price is definitely worth it. P.S. There's free food everywhere...like all the time..I'm serious just walk around long enough and someone will hand you a slice of pizza or something

    What to do for fun

My favorite thing to do is to play volleyball outside on our sand volleyball courts that are all over campus. When I'm not doing that I spend a lot of time at the Rec Center.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are good. There is a lot of options to choose from no matter where you go to eat. My only complaint is that subway should take meal swipes!

    Dorm Life

I made so many friends in my dorm during freshman year. Every student has their favorite dorm. I lived in our freshman only building, Parks Tower, during my freshman year and I would continue living there if I was allowed to! I loved it!

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough, especially in medical-type programs. I'm a pharmacy major so I have this experience. But if you put the effort in you get the grades you want! Professors are always willing to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

ASK QUESTIONS! Students have complained to me that there is information they didn't know, but they never asked anyone for the information! The university tries to keep students as informed as possible, but it makes it easier for everyone, INCLUDING YOU, if you ask about anything specific you would like to know. And this one is pretty simple. GO TO CLASS. Enough said.

    In three sentences

I love UT! I am a student worker in Undergraduate Admissions and I get to see all the behind the scenes things that UT does for students that they are never even aware of! I am thankful to have a university that is striving so hard to help me succeed.

    Campus Safety

There seems to be a misconception on how safe or dangerous campus is. While there have been some incidents of danger in the past, UT does generally stress a safe environment, filled with escort services for students in need of travelling, and UT Alert systems to alert students of danger. UT is making an overhaul in its safety policies, and while not all of them are perfect, they are trying immensely to keep students safe and out of trouble.

    Clubs and Activities

Several wonderful activities and organizations. Some good, some not so memorable, but there's something for anyone's taste here.

Great for these types of students

If you prefer a close-knit community of like-minded and similar students, consider joining a living, learning community on campus. I, for example, was a member of the Arts Living Learning Community of Ottawa East's fifth floor, and I'll always value the experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Rock in the middle of campus, which is almost always painted a different color.

    Bang for the buck

A little pricey, but comparable with other schools.

    What to do for fun

Although The University of Toledo is filled with various activities and things to occupy your time, the area surrounding Toledo can range from particularly un-exciting to particularly hazardous, depending on where you are in Toledo. However, there are several organizations and activities on Toledo's campus, even including it's own built in rec-center. Ultimately, it's about what you're interested in and what you find.

    Food and Dining

Dining at the University of Toledo can be great or terrible, depending on what you feel. However, dining at the University is almost always reliable, open from early in the morning to late at night, and you can get a sufficient amount of food from the dining halls. It depends on dining tastes, but it is difficult to not be able to get food here.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at the University of Toledo is standard college dorm life. While some dorms have different policies than other dorms, it depends on the person and place. Some dorms, like Ottawa East, offer exercise and recreation rooms, while others have built-in cafeterias, like Parks Tower. Dorm life at Toledo is nothing too particularly different or unusual from a national University.

    Academic Rigor

The courses at the University are a grab bag, some confusing, some breezy, some perfectly manageable and some with extreme difficulty. There are courses that suit several needs and interests, and although the professors range in quality from reliable to disinterested, anybody who approaches school with confidence and discipline will be able to make the best of their learning ability.

    Tips for prospective students

School is what you make it, pardon an old cliche. College at a university level is exactly what you'd expect it to be, but only you have the prowess and the ability to either make the best of it or the worst of it depending on what you want to get out of college. Know your resources. Have people you can depend on, and people who can depend on you. Know where you are and make the best uses of the things at your disposal, because the University of Toledo does have great tools for its students.

    In three sentences

The University of Toledo is a surprising place. It'll be the last thing you'd expect and the first place you could call home. It might not seem much at first glance, but one could find exactly what they're looking for in a place like this.
