Great for these types of students

Students that are interested in Sororities/Fraternities because they built a Greek village which has a ton of houses for the different sororities/fraternities. West Georgia has a great nursing program as well.

    Tips for prospective students

As I have stated before, use your time wisely! The biggest change from high school to college is the responsibility. Set a pace for yourself and you'll do fine. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Procrastination leads to the overwhelming feeling and eventually becomes your enemy. The website www.ratemyprofessor.com is really handy. Check it out.

    Bang for the buck

I like the fact that West Georgia isn't too expensive, and so do my parents.

    Am enjoying being here

I am a commuter, just like a lot of other students that attend West Georgia, so for me, it seems almost like another job. It's hard to really interact with other students when you live 45 minutes away.

    Am learning a lot

There are always those easy classes, but for the ones that aren't so easy--learn how to use your time wisely.

Great for these types of students

Great for all students! If you like to meet new people, try new things, have fun, and learn then West Georgia is right for you! Go West! West Georgia! Go Wolves!!!! Oowwwwwwww!! =) You will be hearing that a lot your first few weeks!

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to use your time wisely and study. Time management is very important when you get to college. Don't get me wrong it's good to have fun and hang out with your friends, but you must remember what you went to school for in the first place. If you play around your first year you will regret it in your years to come.

    Bang for the buck

UWG really has the bang for the buck. You go to all games for free, you can work out in the gym all you want and take all the classes they offer, you can eat at the Cafeteria or the Z-6 is what we call it. They have great food on campus and great spots to get coffee, or a smoothie. If you like rock climbing we got it. Enjoy games? Go to our game room! Like to golf? We have a day of glow in the dark golfing! Like to step, dance, sing, or act? We have it all here! You really get your money's worth at the University of West Georgia.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at West Georgia. It's a great school for me because it's not too far from home, but it's far enough for me to feel independent. They have so much to do here. They have plenty of clubs and activities so that you can get out and socialize and make new friends. They have a lot of things for freshman to do when they come here also. They have bonfires, step shows, talent show, poetry nights, Greek Strolls, haunted houses (only for Halloween), and so much more.

    Am learning a lot

I seem to learn something new everyday! Whether it's in class or one of the many different clubs or events offered here, the University of West Georgia teaches its students something important everyday. They have an abundance of classes to take depending on your interest and the teachers are extremely helpful and actually want to help! You don't find that at every school.

Great for these types of students

Outgoing students thrive in this community! Also, if you are looking for an exciting campus but a good little country town, UWG in Carrollton is where you should go!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't skip classes and get involved in clubs and organizations on campus! I would also say that even if you don't have to, live on campus for at least one semester to get to know other students and to get involved more easily.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition cost is low and you get more than your moneys worth at UWG!

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the campus! It is a walking campus and everyone is sociable and generous! The faculty is very helpful and the students are also willing to help each other out!

    Am learning a lot

Make sure you attend every class and study for an hour outside of class for every hour that you are in class!

Great for these types of students

At UWG there is a place for all types of students no matter your personality.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for possible students is get familiar with the campus before classes start. Once classes start begin studying, don't wait because you can easy fall behind. Last but not least join some clubs, get involved. These are you best years so have some fun.

    Bang for the buck

Not sure what Cappex meant by bang for buck, but at UWG you get what you pay for. The tuition you pay will take care of everything you could possibly need. Some colleges gives fees and you don't know what they are for, well UWG explains. For example health fee: if you get sick they will give you the medicine you need no charge you already paid for it, the flu shot no charge you paid for it already. you get what you get what you pay for.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here! There is something to do everyday. Residence life as well as other campus organizations has something planned in order to keep us busy as well as having fun. Not to mention the family environment they have. Because this is a college town the community is also involved in different things concerning the college, especially homecoming.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here know what they are doing. The University is very strict on who the hire to teach each student. Each professor is different but all of them tend to care about the students their well-being.

    Greek Life

Greek Row is awesome...I look forward to being able to apply when I become eligible.

    Clubs and Activities

Too many to name...but recommend the Community Learning Organizations and the Peer Mentoring Organizations.

Great for these types of students

For students who prefer small classroom size. Students who like one-on-one contact with Professors and Administration. Students who like a Small Town atomosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

During Orientation the staff takes you on a Haunted Campus Tour...It was a pretty fun experience.

    Bang for the buck

Medium sized campus which offers a lot of bang for the buck. From the technology to the course assignments...you will not be disappointed.

    What to do for fun

Many activities are planned for the students. The best part is that they are included in your University Fees.

    Food and Dining

Excellent food service. Make sure you get the UNLIMITED meal plan.

    Dorm Life

Beautiful dorms with many new buildings being added.

    Academic Rigor

Technology is AMAZING. Academics are Career Focused

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Visit the campus if you are interested in attending. 2. Talk to Professors and Students. 3. Apply early to be considered for scholarships. 4. Do your BEST in High School...it will matter.

    In three sentences

UWG is a Student Friendly Campus. The Professors and Staff care about the well-being of the student. Everyone at UWG is focused on ensuring the students SUCCEED!

    Campus Safety

The worst thing to happen in the two years that I was there was a knife fight in which the guy who pulled the knife got stabbed in the butt with his own knife by the defender. Also, keep a good lock on your bike if you're going to be on campus over the summer. Bike thefts aren't common, but they happen most often in the summer when not many people are around. If your bike does go missing, make sure that campus police didn't take it thinking that it was abandoned. (This happens when a bike's seen in the same location for a whole semester or so.)

Great for these types of students

Those looking to transfer to a more expensive school after getting core taken care of, and those in high school looking for a head-start.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Definitely visit Adamson Square.

    What to do for fun

There are ALWAYS events on campus. Just keep an eye out for posters for things that you might want to do. There is a full gym with rock-climbing, a basketball court, and yoga and zumba courses. There's a lake five minutes by car from campus that's a part of the John Tanner State Park. There's a movie theatre about 10 minutes by car from campus that's fairly cheap.

    Food and Dining

The Z-6 Cafeteria was mentioned above, but the campus actually has a decent selection of on-campus and near-campus food. There's a Starbucks in the library, Chick-fil-a on campus, another Chick-fil-a near the Wal-Mart, a McDonald's and two Mexican restaurants just off campus, a Chinese buffet that serves sushi within five minutes on bike, plus a whole lot of nice places on the Square. Adamson square has a coffee shop, a place that's KNOWN for the sandwiches, an Italian restaurant.

    Dorm Life

The only hall that I would suggest to avoid is Watson. Weird stuff goes down in Watson. But, aside from that, it's decent living on campus. I lived in Gunn and Tyus, so I suppose that I wouldn't know as much about the traditional dorms, but I never heard much negative against most of the trads.

    Academic Rigor

I mostly took just core while I was there, so I didn't really get into any of the harder classes. I'm also a fine arts major, so I probably wouldn't take the harder stuff, if I'd stayed. Just keep on your toes, I suppose.

    Tips for prospective students

If someone looks younger than 18, there is a good chance that they are. There is an early-entrance program on campus that has had a student that was 12. The youngest in a while had been 14, though. Most Academy students or Gunnies (as they're sometime's called) are 16 to 18 because USUALLY the program accepts only high school juniors and seniors. Make a high enough score on the A¡T or SAT, there's a good chance that they'd ask you to come even younger. So, just make sure to be wary. You can get a bad rep for trying to date too many children. (There was one guy who became interested in a Gunn girl roughly once a year or once every other year. So far, each have had a Korean roommate.) Also, these Academites don't just come from the United States. While I was there, we had Koreans, Catalans (small, proud area of Spain around Barcelona), Indians (India subcontinent), and one Chinese American. The food at the cafeteria is not that bad until you've had it for seven months. The Z-6 is on the other side of campus from most classes and dorms, but when I was in my last semester there (Spring 2012), there was a rumor of a new cafeteria being put in on the busy end of campus. You'll probably still get sick of the food eventually, but at least it's not quite as much of a hike. Take honors Astronomy with Powell, if he's still there. The only difference is that you have a different book from standard astronomy and that the lab is required. UWG requires at least two sciences with a lab, so just get it out of the way. The lab's easy as well. Just don't get upset if a TA runs the lab. When Powell's in the class, though, try not to start stupid tangents because he will get offended. He won't do anything, but he may end up giving you weird looks whenever you even have a legitimate question. Also, he tends to tell a lot of anecdotes. Don't question it; you WILL get through the material. It's best not to take Powell for Physics, though. I didn't, but my roommate of the time did, and the way she made it through was to watch online lectures by other professors. She said that the way he explains it is rather confusing. If you ever have to take Economics as a core class, take Microeconomics with Murphy. He's funny, and he offers 10 points of extra credit per test if you're IN CLASS to fill out the super-easy hand-outs each day. The tests are easy, but those bonus points can make up for when you have a brain fart. No matter what the school says, the campus police WILL NOT give you a ride anywhere. They will send someone to walk with you, but that's it. So, if you're ill and feel like you're gonna throw up, walk slow or stay put.

    In three sentences

UWG is a very nice small school that is usually best as a starting point for more in-depth careers, such as environmental engineering or art. The only problem that I have found is that the school is trying too hard to seem like the college to attend, and it's advertising campaign is a bit embarrassing. The teachers are usually really cool, though, but do make sure to ask others who have taken them before about their teaching style.

Great for these types of students

    Everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get any questions answered as soon as possible. Summer's full time is 9 hours for financial aid. Fall and Spring is 12 hours. This does make a difference! I learned it the hard way. Make friends with the faculty and staff, they will help you if you need it.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is great. There are always informing the campus about current events. For instance, if there is a storm they will trigger the weather siren. If there is a power outage they will email the students. Also campus police are everywhere in site.

    Greek Life

Greek life is good at UWG. I am not officiated with the Greek but the organizations always have events on and off campus for students to attend.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many activities UWG has. The activities range from recreations teams, concerts, tournaments, sports. Some celebrities I had a chance to see from the activities on campus at UWG was Ludacris, Travis Porter, Sammie, and much more.

Great for these types of students

UWG is great for commuters. Majority of our school are commuters.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The tradition is the only thing that kills UWG. There is no school spirit. Majority of the students are commuters once they are done with school they go home. Since they go home on the weekend the school is dead. Not a lot of people show up for the activities or sports games that UWG has.

    What to do for fun

Last time I heard UWG is known for partying. That is what students do for fun. Also, many students play basketball at the recreation on campus for fun.

    Food and Dining

Food is not so great. The only thing that is good is Chick-fil-A. I heard from many people who have meal plans that go to the Z-6 (which is the main dining area) state that the food is nasty. UWG is trying to add more food options to the menu.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in the dorms but a lot of people who live in dorms do not like it. Many dorms at UWG are getting shut down because they need remodeling. UWG is building new dorms therefore once the dorms get fixed and they finish the new dorms it should be a better experience.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers treat everyone the same. They are hard towards the athletes. Even if athletes have excuse letters some teachers do not excuse them. They do not care. That is one thing I do not like because athletes are representing UWG and playing for them. Some athletes do not like traveling because when they miss class sometimes they cannot make up the work.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a student who loves to go to games and cheers your heart out and is all about school spirit DO NOT go to UWG we do not have school spirit. That is the only knock off of UWG.

    In three sentences

Beautiful campus, variety of majors, and no school spirit.

Great for these types of students

This school is very accepting. It is great for any type of student from any background. We have all kinds of clubs and socials, so do not worry, because anyone can find a friend here!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to every class! Alot of my teachers will give extra credit on random days just for being there. Sign up for scholarships early! Check out arbor view apartments if you want to live on campus.

    Bang for the buck

West Georgia definitely has that bang for the buck factor. It's such a nice campus with good facilities, and it is definitely worth each dollar! You get to use the gym whenever you want just by being a student. Definitely a plus!

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is so beautiful, and West Georgia makes sure that there are always activities going on. Whether it's a play, intermural game, or just chilling in the quad there is always something to do and someone to talk to.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning alot! There is such a variety of classes, and anyone can find one that will become a favorite. My teachers this semester have all been very helpful in many ways. Whether a class may be easy of really hard, you can do well and learn the material if you take the time to study. Don't forget to go to class!

Great for these types of students

It is a smaller campus but it was a perfect size for me, so if you like to be able to go to class and know at least one person this is the place for you :))

    Tips for prospective students

Be active and have fun!!!! You only go to college once so make the best out of your experience. Concentrate on making good grade because they do mean a lot, but also its the time to find your true friends and have fun.

    Am enjoying being here

I have made so many true friends especially through my sorority, Phi Mu. I definitely recommend joining some type of organization to meet new people and keep busy.

    Am learning a lot

The University of West Georgia has already helped me improve my GPA alot more than what my high school GPA was. They try there hardest to offer many options for every student to succeed.

Great for these types of students

Students who are open to new experiences and taking on a higher level of learning.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have good study skills and that you attend all your classes. Develop a relationship with your professors so that they will be able to remember you when they are doing grades. You have a better chance of getting a good grade when the professor knows who you are.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition here is very cheap compared to other colleges. It's affordable for the average family.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because of the diversity and the new experiences that you get to partake in.

    Am learning a lot

You learn a lot about yourself and about the various subjects that are offered here. The professors here are really interested in helping you to achieve your goals.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is interested in nursing, mass communication, or teaching should put this school on their list.

    Tips for prospective students

Though I am a commuter and not as involved in the school as I like, you can still find a place/group of people that you belong to . There's a place for commuters to hang and if that's not enough you can join some clubs to get more involve and meet new people.

    Bang for the buck

This college will help you get far in life. They offer a lot of major and minors and it's your decision to pick what you want to do. If you can't decide then there are programs and people to help you. You will also need to balance social life and academic life if you want to get ahead and accomplish your goals.

    Am enjoying being here

This college as a lot of clubs for students of all types and if you can't find one then you and your friends can create on. The school also has an awesome library which is right across the recreation center and near the Wolf Den where you can get a meal or a snack.

    Am learning a lot

You need to attend all of your classes if you want to do well. It doesn't matter if all your friends skip, stay in class...you'll always learn something the book never covers.

Great for these types of students

Students who like entertainment, being outside, a large campus, students who like to party, and drink coffee (yes this is weird but theres pretty much alot of places on campus to get coffee). This school is also for students who arent afraid to be themselves and socialize.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend class if neccessary, dont just rely on powerpoint, many teachers require that you go and buy a book for their class but you really do not need one. 90% of the class material the teacher says out his/her mouth. Also, do NOT let the campus activities distract you, there is always something going on around campus that it will really make you not want to attend class even if you tell yourself your only going to go for a few minutes, trust me that was everyones excuse!

    Bang for the buck

UWG is not too pricy, but every penny you spend attending here is worth it. You get carnivals, campus parties concerts, rock climbing and so much more for way less than other colleges, plus the campus has a bus that takes you around campus so that you can be lazy and become educated.

    Am enjoying being here

UWG has sooo much to offer here and keeps you involved. There is so much going on and flyers posted around the school to keep you updated and able to meet new friends that you'll never forget. Also, everyone here is friendly and loves to offer helping hands with a smile.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here have a very strict policy about attending class only because they are dedicated to their work and want you to walk out on your last day of class knowing you have learned alot of valuable information.

    What to do for fun

    Dorm Life

dorm life is awesome if you have a good roommate and awesome hallmates. it is so much easier to live on campus than commuting.

    Academic Rigor

    What to do for fun

As long as you have friends, you'll have fun. Guaranteed.

    Food and Dining

Food is okay in the cafeteria, their pizza and hamburgers are good. Eat in the UCC often, that's where the good food is.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms on campus aren't that bad, but it's not the best. If you're a girl, stay away from Watson Hall which is the all girls dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your teacher, major, and class is how hard your academics are. Always go on RateMyProfessors.com to check your professors out before taking their class.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The campus has its very own UWG police department that 24/7 maintains campus safety. The only incident I have heard of in the past 17 years was a drunk driver crash, which cannot be prevented and happens everywhere. The college is very strict on its anti- drug and drinking policies for people under the age of 21!

    Greek Life

    Available but not in it.

    Clubs and Activities

The college offers almost any club your mind can possibly imagine. If you want to learn how to duck call, sing Yankee Doodle, or dance the electric slide, we have a club for it. We also have great community service clubs that have donated hundreds of thousands over the past few years to the homeless and less fortunate.

Great for these types of students

The UWG is great for hometown lovers, poor geniuses, big college dreamers, etc. This college is great for anyone and it all comes for a great price.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The football games are fantastic, packed, and loud. The pep- rallies preceding the games are always something to look forward to.

    Bang for the buck

The UWG is one of the best bang for your buck colleges in the country. The tuition is modest and there are very few mandatory fees or other outrageous expenses. There are UWG policemen that love to blast you with a parking ticket but other than that there are no really surprise expenses.

    What to do for fun

The campus provides so many fun activities to take up. Not even mentioning the 100+ clubs from kayaking to chess, the sports programs: both collegiate and intramurals are excellent. There is downtown Carrollton only 3 minutes down the road for great night- life and the big town Atlanta about 30 minutes away!

    Food and Dining

With one starting and final price, the UWG offers all you can eat at the campus operated Z6. The food is mediocre but the quantities are massive, which is not that great of a thing for you dieters. There are also many fast food and sit- down restaurants around. Starbucks is always popular for that morning coffee crave as well!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is just incredible at UWG. The dorm managers oversee so many fun and exciting extracurriculars to make college a blast. It is not uncommon for our dorm to have a scheduled water balloon fight or marshmallow catapult fight. On the other-hand, there is always the silence you need to study in your room and the social life in the common room.

    Academic Rigor

The UWG can award you with the degree without the sweat and blood it would cost at Georgia Tech. The classes are never truly difficult, and the campus and teachers offer several tutoring sessions for those seeking refuge.

    Tips for prospective students

Some of you may feel like the University of West Georgia is just a back- up plan, but UWG makes a great primary college. They offer the extracurriculars that any college could offer while providing an effortless transition from high school to the college routine.

    In three sentences

The University of West Georgia is not just that local home- town college. Though this university allows for a small town experience where most students can drive 10 minutes down the road for a home cooked meal, it also creates many opportunities unlike the norm. For example, I am an above average student who knew no chance of paying for the highly appraised colleges of the day, but UWG took me in under a scholarship at 16 and is helping me by opening transfer scholarships to colleges beyond my very dreams,

Go to class. Don't be that student that doesn't go to class, it will catch up with you. Most teachers have an attendance policy. Also use the syllabus, that thing will be your best friend. It tells you when all your tests are, when all the papers are due, and even when there are no classes.

    Bang for the buck

YES! This college is not that expensive and on campus and in the classes you would never notice it. You would think you're at a much more expensive college.

    Tips for prospective students

Join an organization, they can help you to keep focused and they can also be that support system that you will need throughout your time in college. Stay focused and do not get caught up in all of the activities that are going on around campus. Most importantly have fun, its college!

Great for these types of students

great for active students who are social and make friends easily, but also good if you like getting lost in a crowd. There are opportunities for both.

    Tips for prospective students

Be flexible, but make your wants known. The people in admissions and registration are here to work for YOU, so make them. If you are ambiguous about what kinds of classes you want, you may end up in not-so-desirable classes. That doesn't mean you have to know your major, but look into your classes and get what you paid for!

    Bang for the buck

I get what I paid for! Events and organizations are largely free for UWG students, or at the very least discounted, and the classes are quality.

    Am enjoying being here

Lots of hills...other than that there really isn't much to complain about. Easy to make friends in almost every class and field.

    Am learning a lot

On the whole, professors seem to enjoy their fields and teach with passion. There are exceptions to every rule, especially in the core classes, but for the most part they're here because they want to be.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for any type of student. They have the extra push for the under achiever and an over achiever should be able to fit in anywhere.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to prospective students is to stay focused. College is fun, but don't forget what you came for. You're there to learn. Obtain as much knowledge as you possibly can. Make sure you stay on top of your grades, and build a connection with your professors.

    Bang for the buck

The school is not that expensive. It's about the same price as all the other colleges in Georgia that I looked into freshman year.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being on campus. It's very active. There's always something to do, except for on the weekend. Since we're so close to Atlanta after Thursdays, most of the students go home. However, the campus does a good job of providing fun activities for people to get involved in. The campus is really diverse and clean.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are easy to talk to. If there is something you don't understand they tell don't mind clarifying. On top of that, they have free tutoring for basic core classes, such as Biology or Pre-calculus. It's really helpful.

Great for all students! College is what you make it. You can go in there meet new people, try new things and just have fun! GOOO WOLVESSS!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't waste your time! You must manage your time wisely! In the beginning you may think all you do is study, but you don't. You are able to balance everything out if you set your mind to it. Its fun to have a social life, BUT be sure to STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! You don't want to waste freshman year and struggle to bring back your GPA.

    Bang for the buck

UWG is a really good place to put your money! They are very affordable and have many food options for students. We have many of our own places to dine! Games are free and you can get apparel at many events!

    Am enjoying being here

West Georgia is a great school for me because it's not too far from home, but I can feel independent too. They don't have much to do around the city of Carrollton, but they've been working on trying to keep students on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Because I'm a freshman the things you learn are your core classes that you were taught in high school. There are an abundance of different clubs and events offered here which can help you learn a lot as well. There are clubs based on certain majors, which are always a plus when you want to network!

Great for these types of students

-who want a small-town, energetic, everybody-knows-everybody campus experience and who like to get away on the weekends: Atlanta and their fabulous clubs and FOOD aren't far, as well as a host of other Universities that we love to visit (and they love to have us!)

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors. Here at UWG professors are a lot kinder and forgiving with the students who earnestly seek to know the vast information that their professors hold.

    Bang for the buck

Some people don't think highly of UWG and in most cases UWG is nobody's first choice, but when comparing the tuition of some of our surrounding schools, their campus environment, and what they are learning, I am glad that I chose to attend UWG. The campus is springing up as well as on-campus life.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is growing at a rapid pace and I'm really enjoying watching it. Plus, when things get too tension-y and stress-y, you can always go spend a night with a friend at Kennesaw or UGA or GA State- like a mini-vacation!

    Am learning a lot

We have some really amazing professors here at UWG which is shone, simply, in the fact that they have not received a raise in FOUR years! We are blessed to have them lead us in the next phase of our lives and I say that with all the sincerity that I posses. I love our faculty and staff!

I feel very safe on campus and I have not heard of any problems on campus. When researching UWG the only police calls that I could find were calls along the nature of checking security lights and verifying security at the dorms, etc.

All I can really say is that it looks like they have some beautiful homes.

    Bang for the buck

The cost at UWG is great, especially considering the fact that you are getting a fantastic education!

    Academic Rigor

Being a transfer student at UWG, I am still learning about the academic rigor, but from what I have experienced so far, UWG is anything but a joke.

The dorms are really cool, and get bigger and better the longer you stay in them. There are always dorm activities and even friendly dorm rivalries and competitions. In a dorm hall themselves, you have an RA, room adviser; they can plan different activities for everyone to do. If something like that isn't going on, there is always your roommate. They tend to become your best friend and you end up doing loads of things together.

    Academic Rigor

This varies by student but generally what I hear others say, and from my experience, is that they are able to handle their workload. The amount of hour you take is up to you and depending on when you sign up for classes you can make your own schedule and choose your professors. If you are having trouble in a core class, tutoring is offered on campus for all core classes, every day of the week. If you'd prefer a different method, all the teachers are willing to help you. They say they have office hours and they are there to help you, and they actually do. They even seem to enjoy help the eager student.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a perfect school to live on campus, but it is also ideal for a commuter. There are so many different events going on that one is bound to catch your attention. As a commuter, you feel a part of the family as well, although you aren't there as often as a student living on campus, the staff and students find fun and creative ways to make you feel at home. For instance, last semester they made a field of snow (because it didn't snow on campus that year) so we could have snowball fights or build a snowman.

    In three sentences

The University of West Georgia caters to the students needs and really cares about your individual opinion. Although the number of students enrolled is fairly large, you still feel like it is a close-knit community where everyone is friendly and willing to help you. The campus itself is beautiful and covered with flowers; it is always clean and the staff is welcoming of everyone.

Some of their older dorms need to get torn down. Don't move to Downs, Bowdon, or Tyus. Greek Village, Arbor Place apt, University Suites are great dorms to stay in.

    Academic Rigor

Professors will challenge you. If you make an A in a course, you deserved it!!

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you want from a univeersity: big, small, urban, rural, etc. UWG is a medium size university with small classroom sizes. It is also in a rural enviroment. Know what you are willing to pay: UWG is one of the least expensive schools in the state. More money in your pocket.

    Campus Safety

Campus police is no joke. They do not play when it comes to safety. There are emergency buttons surrounded around campus and they will come if you push it no matter what. You will always see an officer or the campus wolf watch (volunteers) somewhere on campus

    Greek Life

You see alot of greeks walking around campus and they usually have little functions on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs on campus, too many to count actually. Most students become a part of SAC which is the student activites committee, and under that is a whole bunch of other committees so out of them you are most likely going to find one that interests you.

Great for these types of students

I feel the school is great for any type of student. There are so many things going on you are wound to find something that you fit into.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The library is fun hangout spot. In highschool i never went to the library but know i am there all the time. Even though alot of people go there to hangout it is big enough for those who are trying to get work done have space to study and finish assignments without having to worry about any distractions

    Bang for the buck

Some of the prices have risen do to addings and construction but I think that if you use everything to your advantage you will feel like your money is well spent. There is free printing, computer access, tutoring, and use all the money on the meal plan, and the activities are free. The games are all free, most activities give away free stuff like tshirts, and west georgia knick knacks. If you are in your room all day you will just waiste everything you pay for, but if you enjoy what the college has to offer you will feel that your money is well spent.

    What to do for fun

There are alot of things to do here, you have to go and find them, they are not going to come to you. The campus center is always having something goin on in the ballroom, theres a gym, a game room, and rock climbing. The school has Weekends at West Georgia where the activity commitee plans different functions. Not to mention there are parties going on almost every weekend.. but dont party too much, know your priorities. Not to mention all of the sports games to go to, which you get into for free

    Food and Dining

The on campus cafeteria, the Z6, does not really have a variety of its food choices and can sometimes seem as though you are eating the same thing everyday, but it is fun to go there and mingle with others and you may end up spending hours there just talking. If you do not like the food there are on-campus restaurants to go to which you can pay for using your meal plan, depending on which one you get. I believe more restaurants should be added that have foods that dont get served in the Z6. Overall you will always find something to eat, trust me you wont starve, but you may get tired of pizza.

    Dorm Life

Living in a dorm is a fun experience that i think everyone should have. You get to meet new people, not just your roomate, but the dorm as a whole becomes like a little family. Of course there are downfalls, the bathroom may not always be as clean, and sometimes the RAs can be strict. But compared to other colleges the rules are more flexible.

    Academic Rigor

The library offers students a place to study, there are 3 different floors, i would recommend the top 2 floors to not have any distractions. There is on campus tutoring for free, a writing center and all of the teachers have office hours where they can help out students on a one-to-one basis.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to go to ALL of your classes, get to know your proffessors, and though there are many distractions with parties, boys/girls, etc. just remember your main purpose of being there is to get an education and not to take it for granted.

    In three sentences

The University of West Georgia is very diverse and tries its hardest to make there students feel comfortable. There are alot of activities to get involved in so that you are never bored. I believe that this is overall a great school and I would recommend for anyone to go here.

The University always had events going on almost every week and they always kept you updated on the events when you go to check your e-mail set up by the school.

    Food and Dining

You have The Z6 which is the dinning hall which always serves something new every single day and the University Campus Center holds a food hall on the lower level for those students who are on the go.

    Dorm Life

I stayed in both a traditional dorm and in the suites, if you are okay with sharing a bathroom with more than one person then you will be okay with a traditional dorm but if you are not then the suites are for you. In the traditional dorms you are more prone to making more friends than in the suites because people tend to be more reserved in the suites than in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The work is tough but as long as you apply yourself and do your best failing will not be an option.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you get your required books as soon as possible because it is easy to get behind in your studies. Don't be afraid to ask for help, if there is any doubt e-mail your professor or go to the tutoring session.

    In three sentences

The University of West Georgia is a beautiful school and the campus isn't that big so there's no room for getting lost and the walk across campus is not at all bad. The school provides tutoring services along with career services to help you find a job if needed. The professors are friendly and always willing to help only if you ask for help.

The university police are awesome. If needed, they take you to places you need to get to at night to ensure that you are safe, they respond quickly to any issues, and they overly protect the students from being harmed. They are constantly patrolling the campus. There are also many emergency buttons around campus that can be pushed in case of an emergency.

    Greek Life

On our campus we have the Bonner House, and the Kennedy Chapel. I think these two places are a bit unusual because of the interesting stories behind them. The art students have a lot of traditions where they do giant kiln burns and things like that.

    Bang for the buck

Everything is generally cheap. There are many stores within the city where the students can go to purchase things. There are also stores on campus where you can use cash and/or dining dollars (wolf bucks). These can definitely come in handy. They come with most meal plans.

    What to do for fun

There are multiple events that go on, on campus everyday. There's never a time where there isn't anything to do. There's a gameroom that has Playstation 3, XBOX 360, Wii, pool tables, air hockey, etc. It's definitely a place you can go to wind down.

My freshman year was great! Dorm life is amazing because you get to meet so many new friends the only bad part is the rooms are a little small but most any college have small dorm rooms.

    Academic Rigor

Academically West Georgia wants you to strive. They have placed many tutors and help center to help student when they are having trouble with school work.

    Tips for prospective students

West Georgia is a great school to go to there is always something to do from sports games, campus events, studying, or just hanging out with friends, but one thing is you must study or your grades will suffer so always make time for school work before anything.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. The Police Station is in the center of the campus, and many emergency call centers are conveniently located. If called, police and other emergency vehicles will arrive in minutes.

    Greek Life

The Greeks have a brand new housing area, and all sororities and fraternities have the own brand new house that is steps from the campus. Greeks are also extremely active around campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Sororities, fraternities, nationality clubs, interests clubs, intramural sports, and many more activities.

Great for these types of students

Goal-oriented students who want both a big school and small school experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

During freshman orientation, all incoming freshman walk to the fountain located in the middle of campus, light the torch together, and ultimately celebrate the beginning of a fun and unforgettable college experience.

    Bang for the buck

Unfortunately, freshman have to live on campus their freshman year. However, this is good because you get a true college experience. However, sophomore year I would recommend staying in one of the many off-campus apartments that are for students only. On campus housing is usually about two thousand dollars per semester. Whereas, the apartments add up to be way less. Also during your sophomore year, I would recommend buying a cheaper meal plan. That way you still get good campus food whenever you please, but you can pay way less and use the money to learn to cook for yourself!

    What to do for fun

Because West Georgia is somewhat close to Atlanta, many students visit there on the weekends. I would recommend staying on campus and attending sporting events and taking part in many other campus clubs and organizations.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent; nothing is like home of course. West Georgia is also in the process of building a new cafeteria. Not only will we have two cafeterias, but we also have a very nice food court with Subway, Chick-Fil-A, and many other restaurants.

    Dorm Life

Honestly, I hated dorms. I lived in a traditional dorm and was always sick because the dorms were somewhat old. Luckily, the campus is tearing those dorms down and all new students will have the opportunity to live in nice, brand new suites.

    Academic Rigor

I would say West Georgia is tough, but everyone is capable of doing well and making good grades. After all, it is college. However, if students put in the necessary study hours then they can expect to make good grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely get to know your teachers! Teachers are friendly, helpful, and really do want the best for you! I would also recommend getting involved with the many activities which West Georgia has to offer, and to also take advantage of the many resources provided on campus.

    In three sentences

West Georgia has a nicely sized campus and a growing student body. West Georgia has helpful teachers, and provides students with attributes of both a big school-small school feel. West Georgia's only drawback is that it is located in a somewhat rural area.

Campus police are the best! There were times when my class ended late and it was dark outside, I would call campus police to escort me to my dorm. They also update you on things going on in the community as well as on campus. I get a phone call when there is a thunderstorm warning. Ladies, be sure to take the self-defense courses offered (for free, again) because knowledge is power.

    Greek Life

You have a choice of Historically Black National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Fraternities and Sororities, National Pan-hellenic Conference (NPC) Sororities, and Council National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Fraternities to choose from.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs? We got it! Activities? We got it, too! From religious, to Greek, to political, to student governance, to service organizations, we have it all! Check the UWG website and look for CSI.

Great for these types of students

EVERYONE. UWG is great for all kinds of people, different backgrounds, and various cultures. I love meeting new people. If you do too, then UWG is great for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Best pep-rallies and pre-homecoming events. Homecoming games are always packed, loud, and fun! Weekends at West Georgia are designed for students who don't live minutes away from home and are still on campus. There is always something for you to do.

    Bang for the buck

You do get what you paid for. West Georgia is fairly inexpensive compared to most schools. We receive an education and so much more. The activities are vast and engaging. Movie nights and bonfires happen to be my favorite. Majority are free. Other activities like kayaking trips and whitewater rafting cost roughly $50.

    What to do for fun

Check out concerts (free of course) offered by the music department, plays offered by the theater department, football games, basketball games, activities on the yard, and Zumba classes in the gym.

    Food and Dining

The Z-6 is okay, but when it comes to breakfast it's good! People mainly go to the UCC for various food choices. Starbucks in the library have the best cake pops! Make sure you try rocky road. Note to freshman: you have to have a meal plan your first year on campus. It is greatly needed.

    Dorm Life

Check out the dorms before you plan on living in them. We always have something going on in the dorms and apartments regarding social interaction. RA's are there to assist you and make sure your living is suitable. It's always nice to have an RA in the same class as you. Study Time!!

    Academic Rigor

Academics play a major role on any campus. If you aren't strong in a particular subject, the UCC hosts many opportunities for tutoring, especially concerning core classes. Professors are always willing to help. Networking is a must. Your peers may have information that you need.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to check out www.westga.edu for any information you need. It helps. Also, if you plan on attending, make sure you have an idea on what degree you want to pursue. Make sure it is your passion.

    Campus Safety

There have been some safety incidents on campus, but we don't live in a bubble. People are always bound to get hurt not matter where he or she may go. I believe that the UWG Police has an amazing program set up to try and keep as many students and faculty as safe as possible.

    Greek Life

I avoid these things because so many Greek people have complained about the obligations of the Greek Life interfering with their study life.

    Clubs and Activities

Depends on the club and the activity. I'm a study person... I try to avoid those things.

Great for these types of students

If you like to party... You'll fit right in... but please allow other students to actually use their money for an education. Don't waste their time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual locations... Love Valley is interesting. They have occasional events with blow up jumping gyms and live bands playing.

    Bang for the buck

Depends on what aspect of the school we're talking about. The maintenance on a lot of the internet based things and websites are lacking. During my years of attending, there has been non-stop construction.

    What to do for fun

Intramural, Clubs, Attend Sports Games, Game Room

    Food and Dining

The Z-6 (Cafeteria) is very expensive and isn't worth the money that you invest into it.

    Dorm Life

Freshman dorms are always difficult. Immature people who attend for one year and drop out. People who only want to party and get drunk. Once you get into the upper classmen dorms... Thinks are so much easier.

    Academic Rigor

I'm sure that there are more difficult colleges, but UWG is not easy either. Be prepared.

    Tips for prospective students

Turn things in on time. Don't burden yourself with too many classes at once. If you can afford to go for more than 4 years, take your time and take the bare minimum of credit hours.

    In three sentences

No college is perfect but UWG is functional and it gets the job done. It teaches you and introduces you to amazing new ideas that you never would have thought of elsewhere.

Located around all of campus there are emergency ports where you can report anything if you feel in danger. There are campus police for any students discretion at any time.

    Greek Life

Greeks aren't as social as we would like them to be, but there there are Greeks on campus

    Clubs and Activities

There club fairs every semester that give you detailed information about all the clubs around you can become apart of and every month there is a full calendar giving you a run down of all the campus events going on.

Great for these types of students

Students that enjoy a really laid back scene that has the right mixture of having a social life and keeping up with your academics.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a open area called Love Valley where a lot of events take place. Around the campus are abstract works of art made by our own art students which are really cool.

    What to do for fun

Go on the adventure trips every month, attend the on campus events and become a part of clubs that interest you and involve yourself.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is only good on certain days, but the breakfast is always good. The on campus restaurants are the best but slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty normal, you'll enjoy yourself if you allow yourself not to. They have been renovating so their a lot better looking now.

    Academic Rigor

Academics I wouldn't say were too competitive or difficult, depending which courses and professors you take.

    Tips for prospective students

The school tuition is one of the cheapest by far right now and if your looking for a place to not be around everyone you know its a great school to go to.

    In three sentences

West Georgia is a pretty average school out in the country area, but not completely away from civilization. There are restaurants around and little shopping strips for those without transportation. It's a laid back area where it is easy to relax.

There is always a police on stand-by if you are in trouble. Like if your car broke down on campus, they provide help. When there is a severe weather, they would always email all the students about the warning.

    What to do for fun

They have a gaming room for students and it's free. They also have rock climbing and a gym for students who want to work out in one location. On some days they have programs, like Zumba for students.

    Food and Dining

Everything is provided through the whole school. In every nooks or crany of the large campus, there is always a small place where you can find a coffee shop or bagel shop. They also give you a list of delivery services outside of campus. Just to make sure they are feeding you, they place many food places around campus and vending machines to snack on.

    Dorm Life

Not really sure how dorm life is since I am a commuting student, but I heard that the rooms are big enough for one person and small, but the kitchen room is spacious.

    Academic Rigor

They provide students, who are struggling in certain part of their class, tutors. For students, who think writing an essay is not their strongest point, they also have a writing center to fix that problem.

    Tips for prospective students

You should arrive early to grab a good seat in class. Don't be afraid to ask around. Make lots of connections with your professors and peers. If you are a commuting student from home, you should arrive to the campus to nab a good parking spot. Don't be afraid to make new friends.

    In three sentences

University of West Georgia has a lot of energy, because the students contain a lot of school spirit. The campus itself is large and very confusing to know where you should go, but it gives you the time to stop and take in the beautiful scenery, close to nature. It also gives you a relaxing atmosphere and friendly people.

    What to do for fun

For fun there are sooooo many events on campus. There are different organizations and sports to join to stay active. Also, look out for parties thrown by your classmates on facebook and twitter.

    Food and Dining

Dining dollars were most definitely a plus. The cafe food is ok sometimes.

    Dorm Life

Depending on where you are living is how your dorm life experience will be. My freshman year I stayed in Strozier main which is one of the final traditional dorms on campus. It was very small and I had a very bad ant problem. I wanted to go home :) but I stuck it out.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are rigor but most definitely useful and interesting. Make sure that your major is something that you are interested in so that going to class becomes something you enjoy.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospctive students come with a ope mind because college is most definitely a big difference from high school. You have more freedom and more time on your hands, which could serve as a good and a bad thing. Just manage your time well and make the best out of everything. You may have to do stuff you never one before to enjoy your stay here because after all this is Carrollton (the country) and it's a big difference from the city.

    Campus Safety

This campus is relatively safe. There isn't much to worry about as far as danger and crimes. Heavily patrolled by the police, West Georgia is probably one of the safest Universities that Georgia has to offer.

    Greek Life

I personally, am no involved in greek life. I do have friends and classmates who are and they seem to enjoy it.

    Clubs and Activities

All of the clubs here at UWG are definitely to your benefit. I love spoken word and I love meeting new people. Joining the University Television club allowed me to volunteer in our campus news room. In addition to the UT-13 club, I joined Free Verse and hosted a local show that displays natural and artistic talent via spoken word song dance and etc.

Great for these types of students

If you are the type of student who loves art, try becoming a dual major and take up some art classes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is one place on campus where all of the freshmen go to kind of grace themselves on our UWG campus. Love valley. Love valley is exactly what its named during spring semester and the warmer months don't be surprised to find several students taking in the warmth of the sun and simply... relaxing.

    Bang for the buck

West Georgia definitely offers its bang for its buck. This school is highly affordable especially if you have student loans and scholarships.

    What to do for fun

Hang out with some friends. Go to all the student events on campus and meet new people. Enjoy your life responsibly and vigorously. You only live Once, but you can be remembered for generations.

    Food and Dining

Personally, I am not a big fan of cafeteria food. But UWG, does offer great meals. It may be a far cry from mom's dinner at home, but it is dinner.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is an adventure all in itself. I personally lived with a roommate that I did not know. She was an interesting person. Through my dorm life experience I learned a lot about myself such as dislikes and likes concerning my living environment.

    Academic Rigor

Academically, this University is about a four. I truly appreciate the rigor because it wouldn't allow me to become complacent and lazy. From a personal frame of reference the harder it is the better the outcome in growth.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused. Losing sight of what you are in school for is an easy thing to do. The detrimental cost however, is much greater than you can ever imagine. Push yourself each semester to do better than the semester before. Remember why your here, find out who you are and take the journey one step at a time.

    In three sentences

West Georgia University is a great school that will allow you to excel academically as well as individually. Here, the professors are down to earth easy to relate to and motivating. So far, I have truly enjoyed my journey here at West Georgia, as our motto says, LET'S GO WOLVES!

Someone looking for a school that's not too big. Someone ready to jump right into work and starting their future. Someone who likes living in a quiet town.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is way less here than at other schools I applied to, but the value is higher than those that I've visited. I felt like UWG had a lot more to offer than any of the other schools I applied to.

    What to do for fun

Weekends West Georgia hosts events almost every weekend. The campus is beautiful and perfect to take a walk or ride your bike around campus. There are also shopping shuttles that run so you can go shopping!

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

Living on campus has been really fun! You meet tons of new people around your hall and there are always events going on around campus. There's no reason for you not to make some new friends!

    Academic Rigor

The course load is rough, especially entering college as a freshman. The transition from high school to college is no joke. Be prepared to work extremely hard.

    Tips for prospective students

I do not feel safe at all. Safety is not a high rating for this college.

    Greek Life

Greek life is very fun and exciting. However, if you feel the need to want to withdraw from your sorority, many are very hateful and rude about you wanting to quit. Some girls will be very crude to you after quiting.

    What to do for fun

The most thing there is to do for fun is going Greek.

    Food and Dining

Although it is not mama's cooking, West Georgia does a very well done job on food. The food has a nice taste and never tastes fake.

    Dorm Life

Even though dorm life is very nice, there are many problems. The most negative thing is the disrespect of people during night time. Many people will run down the halls laughing and screaming past midnight. There is always an excess amount of odor from marijuana smokers. The smell is so powerful I can smell it from inside my room.

    Academic Rigor

Many professors are great, however, just like other schools there are going to be professor who do not care if you pass or not. Mostly there are good professors.

    Tips for prospective students

For a prospective student, I would like to inform students of the crimes committed at West Georgia. There has been many times I have recieved emails regarding young African-American boys pulling knifes on people or threatening students. I do not feel 100% safe at this school. Also, the communication between telephones is awful. No one ever knows the answers to questions. Operators are continuously transferring you to another people to talk to over and over again. Lastly, during the weekends, West Georgia is deserted and there is nothing to do.

    In three sentences

While touring, University of West Georgia tries to reveal all positive things about their school. However, they do not reveal exactly how many crimes are committed or the dirtiness of the school. West Georgia is a nice school, but many things go on they do not inform prospective students about.

    Campus Safety

This has got to be the safest place I've ever been to! However, there are many security phones near bus stops, buildings and throughout campus in case something ever does come up. Most people walk or ride bikes throughout campus and are very helpful to all. Campus security is very present during the day and night and will offer assistance by walking someone to their car, dorm, etc. This is a very safe campus.

    Greek Life

There is a very active Greek Life on campus, though I am not very familiar with them just yet. They seem to be very busy and have many gatherings often. They also have their own section on the campus for housing.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to choose from including several different religious/campus ministries, academic clubs, study groups, sports organizations, etc. There is something for everyone and it's easy to start a new club.

Great for these types of students

This is great for students who might be overwhelmed at larger universities. The campus and staff are so welcoming to everyone. This school is perfect for students who live in the Atlanta area and want to live on campus but not be too far from home - but actually great for everyone!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I enjoy the large art statues all around the campus. The campus is very shaded with lots of walkways and makes for a nice bike ride or walk to all of the different buildings.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other Georgia schools, the price cannot be beat! The tuition is less than many other schools and the extra fees include a lot more than others. Campus seems to be like a small mini-city within the city of Carrollton.

    What to do for fun

It seems like there is some type of activity happening on campus all the time for I have not been bored since I've been here and have hardly left the campus! However, for those who do go off campus, there are a couple of nearby state parks for picnic's and hiking and downtown Atlanta is only a 45 minute drive. Carrollton offers many restaurants, a movie theatre and shopping opportunities.

    Food and Dining

There are many dining opportunities around campus. The Z-6 is the main cafeteria where you can get nearly anything imagineable and the food is fair. There is a food court that houses serveral fast-food type restaurants such as Chick Fil A, Subway and a couple of others. In addition, there is a Starbuck and Einstein Bagles @ the bookstore which are always great!

    Dorm Life

The new dorms are a little inconvenient to the dining facility, but they are very nice. Laundry facilities are only a few doors down from my room. The rooms are more spacious than they apprear.

    Academic Rigor

So far, my classes have been challenging, but not overwhelming. My professors are really great to work with and explain things well. There are many resources available when extra help may be needed.

    Tips for prospective students

West Georgia offers things that other major universities may not offer (i.e. a writing lab). When reviewing other colleges make sure you compare the extra's. The new dorm rooms are super nice.

    In three sentences

Campus life is exactly what I had hoped it would be. My classmates are so friendly and helpful as well as all of the staff. I am so glad I chose this school.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are cool because I stay in the University Suites not traditional dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The cirriculum is great and so are the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should know whether they would really enjoy being at a large school versus a small school and visit both. Prospective students should be ready to continue the high school cafteria menus. Prospective students should get involved in things before they actually become a student or at least find out about student involvement organizations.

    In three sentences

West Georgia is a large school, but squeezed in a small community. The University has great professors and resources willing to help you succeed in your major. The University of West Georgia is very involved in community service and volunteer programs and organizations.

The police are everywhere!! There was an incident in my residence hall and the police was there in like 2 minutes. Never walk at night by yourself because there are a lot of different pathways that lead into woods or behind buildings and that can be very dangerous. I never had a problem though with safety.

    What to do for fun

There is nothing to do on this campus for fun unless you join a club or something. Other than that its boring.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. If you go to the cafeteria you need to go at like certain times when they are actually cooking food. If you don't go at those times then all you will be eating is pizza, salad, and waffles.

    Dorm Life

I live in a traditonal dorm and the room is nice but those bathrooms are a different story. You share a dorm with two halls and some people are nasty. The bathrooms only stay clean during the weeks. On the weekend people act like they don't know how to keep a bathroom clean.

    Academic Rigor

The classes aren't really hard but I advise you to never take an online class because those are the classes that will get you. You will forget about the class and the teachers do not allow make up or extensions.

    In three sentences

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not exquisite, but they are worth what I'm paying for. All of the dorms are near each other and near the main campus. The janitors keep the buildings pretty clean, but it's up to the student how clean they want it to be.

    Academic Rigor

This campus is best for its safety! Campus Police are actual Police Officers that are on campus working 24/7. Also they are always aware of their surroundings, one night I was walking back to my dorm from the apartments and I found a Police officer escorting a young man out from the woods, and the fact they these officers are willingly glad to take those extra measures so that everyone on campus can be safe, is really something of a miracle.

You cannot go anywhere without seeing a blue emergency button. Campus police always answer the phone within two rings, and can help with anything from locking your keys in your car to a serious offense. They are constantly in a good mood and can just stand around and talk to students without seeming intimidating or rude, but they get their jobs done. They are constantly patrolling and are making sure everyone is okay. If you have to walk back from the library really late at night, you can call them and they can drive you back as your escort so you are safe.

Love Valley is a big open field/valley where you can go and have a picnic or play games, or where some events are held. It allows students to just sit and relax or study in the fresh air. It is nice to have a place to relax that is not always inside.

    What to do for fun

There is ALWAYS something going on. A play, a concert, sports, cubs, etc. The sororities and the fraternities are constantly hosting events, and you do not always have to be in the sorority or fraternity to attend. The Z-6 is exceptional. They just recently changed owners and the food is amazing. They always have the basics: pizza, pasta, salad, and cereal, but the special of the day is different and is always good. I especially love that they have a Vegetarian section. I also love how they have Starbucks, Chickfila, Subway, Einstein Bagels, and other individual food places throughout campus. It gives the students a variety to choose from so that we do not always have to eat at the Z-6 like a cafeteria in a school.

    Dorm Life

Each dormitory is different, but they are all exceptional, (even the ones with community bathrooms!) The RAs are wonderful and help you out a lot, and there are always get togethers within your dorm so you get to know your dormmates and have fun.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

West Georgia is located in Carrollton, GA, a very small and safe town. There are University Police dedicated to the university and its safety. There are emergency posts located every few miles around the campus that can be used if there is danger. There is also a program that uses cell phones in a similar way to ensure student safety. All the dorms are accessible by student ID only; even the staff can't get in them. In the newer dorms, the doors automatically lock when they are closed. In the others, students are provided with keys.

    Greek Life

There are several different types of Greeks. From the ones who live in the Greek Village to the ones who simply wear letters, anyone can find a Greek organization where they feel that they belong.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 150 student organizations on campus, and the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is glad to give you a list of them. They also put out a list of campus events every month and post them on the website. The student organizations are a great way to meet new people and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

Great for these types of students

It's great for all kinds of students. Whether you're the average student fresh out of high school or an adult student, West Georgia is the place for you. It's mostly a commuter campus, but it has its fair share of residents as well.

    Bang for the buck

West Georgia is one of the cheapest schools I applied to. They do good things with our tuition money. I believe they try to keep tuition and fees at a minimum while delivering quality results to the students.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the Z-6 doesn't have the best food, and it serves the same thing all the time. Meal plans provide dining dollars that can be used around campus to eat at the higher quality places. They are a godsend! There are also a lot of restaurants nearby that provide student discounts and that serve good food.

    Dorm Life

West Georgia is trying really hard to move away from traditional dorms. In fact, the ones that are traditional are not even open to students next year. Center Pointe Suties, the University Suites, and Arbor View Apartments are the coveted dorms. The Oaks, opening this fall, is probably going to be nice as well. Strozier, Watson and Bowden are in need of some serious TLC.

    Academic Rigor

The staff at West Georgia encourage students to put education first. The teachers are great, and the classes are challenging. They are offered at many different times throughout the day, perfect for the working college student or adult college student with a family to take care of. We take our grades seriously here.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Go to class! 2. Take advantage of the summer. 3. Learn the campus. That will help you out tremendously. 4. Research the dorms.

    In three sentences

The University of West Georgia is located in a small town similar to the one I grew up in. It's a very small school with amazing teachers. It's very green, and a person can walk to basically anything that is needed.

There are a number of student organizations for everyone. Thursday nights are also party nights.

    Food and Dining

The food is satisfying. The dining is all you can eat and we have various other eateries around campus, such as sushi, starbucks, chick-fil-a, Subway, etc.

Not so great, honestly. But they are building a new Z6 by the Oaks!

    Dorm Life

Center Pointe is nice. The Oaks are going to be new this upcoming Fall2013 so it'll be clean. All in all, the dorms are nice. The traditional dorms are going under renovations or have gone. If you can, try to get the newer rooms, but consider prices.

    Clubs and Activities

My favorite activity was the writing pannel where students read their work out loud in order to exhibit their hard efforts to other students, and it was interesting to hear different peoples tactics for writing. There are lots of activities like this one campus, and others as well.

Great for these types of students

    Starbucks is the greatest.

    Bang for the buck

There are lots of unnecessary fees that go for things you might not actually use, but other than that, I think you get what you are paying for.

    What to do for fun

There is a shopping center close by and the Starbucks in the library was always my favorite place to go.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is awful as is necessary for a good college campus, but there are plenty of fast food options that can be perfectly healthy. My favorite was Subway.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live on campus, but from what I heard, the newer suites were the best, and the others weren't very good at all.

    Academic Rigor

I had some teachers who pushed you really hard and some who didn't, but whether the homework load was heavy or not, all of them expected you to know the material and weren't afraid to quiz you over it if necessary.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, register for classes early because they go super fast, and don't skip your classes.

    In three sentences

The teachers here are phenomenal. They will help anyone that needs it and are devoted to learning and engaging with the students. They are just there for the study grants.

    Greek Life

Entire housing block devoted to the Greeks Greek Village, plenty of parties, soirees, and events are thrown each week

    Clubs and Activities

Fairly decent selection, not nearly as large as a UGA or a Georgia State

Great for these types of students

Those who enjoy small/mid-sized towns, those interested in pursuing public history, political science, German

Buses stop running at 2 on Friday, which is important to remember if you live in an apartment off campus that is serviced by the shuttles for students...as my roommate and I found out the hard way

    Bang for the buck

If they offer a terminal degree you're interested in, then the cost is very affordable, except for education, the state's latest assessment of the education program wasn't very complimentary.

    What to do for fun

Basketball and football, intermurals, concerts and music offered in the town, some bars and restaurants offer trivia, several parks for dog lovers, or those enjoy running

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is good, no original eateries, just franchises of major fast food places, and overpriced in my opinion

    Dorm Life

Expensive, especially for the low quality if room that you pay for. You're better off renting off campus

    Academic Rigor

The history MA program is challenging, but manageable so long as you have a good work ethic, and they take the work very seriously

    Tips for prospective students

Learn everything about your program, what is necessary for success in your field and how far you want to go academically. Make sure UWG fits the bill because while it's a decent school it'll be harder to get into a Ph.D program with a degree from there as opposed to another school, like a UGA or a Georgia Tech.

    In three sentences

It's a large school, with a decent history faculty but the graduate funding is limited, ending at the MA level and the school/program doesn't have a good career services group to help you find a job, so be prepared to d that yourself. The faculty can be absentminded, hard to get ahold of, and sometimes are lackadaisical about getting back in touch with you, or delivering letters of eommendation. The campus puts on plenty of programs, cultural events and entertainment, so you don't lack for something to do or go to.

There is so much protection on campus, you'd think that you live in the police station. Many EMERGENCY buttons around campus that alert the police and lead them directly to you. Apps that you can download on your phone to alert campus police. Have a police officer escort you anywhere that you need to go with the Buddie System App. Great Protection!

    What to do for fun

There are lots of great activites. Reading, working out, sports, and best of all, ROCK CLIMBING! Hanging out with friends is always cool too. Nothing like meeting new people.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria food could be better, but the food court makes up for that BIG TIME. There are great places such as Chick-fil-A, Pizza, Burgers, and even salads and veggies for those that prefer that type of meal. Pretty good food on campus. Although, the bad side is that Freshman Fifteen that seems to be creeping upon the freshman at West Georgia.

    Dorm Life

Although there are community restrooms in some of the dorms, and that isn't that safe, depending on the people, the dorms are beautiful. They are not too small. They are just the right size, just the right amount of space given to everyone in the room.

    Academic Rigor

This school is one of the best in the country and everyone is expected to do their best in everything that they do, especially academically.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay as focused as possible. Do not let anything or anyone distract you from achieving all of your dreams and goals.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in any of the dorms. They are building new dorms and they look nice for incoming students.

    Academic Rigor

It will all depend on the professors because some are more lenient than others. However, each class should be given 110% all the time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Love Valley is not that big of a deal and the story that is told as to the reason for naming this landmark is untrue and lame.

    Bang for the buck

The fees that come along with paying for the school's reasonable tuition (that unreasonably increases every year) are confusing, frustrating and unnecessary. Trying to contact and contact anyone to help with questions, concerns or explanations to what some of the fees even are is nearly impossible.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is disgusting, no matter what deals or advertisements the school shows to its students. There are not healthy, fresh options, especially or vegetarian or gluten free students.

    Dorm Life

Unorganized with an RA staff that needs more guidance on proper interaction with residents.

    Academic Rigor

I have enjoyed my time here at West Georgia because of how managble the classes are here. I went to UWG because of its academic rigor, especially since the idea of going to a bigger university was daunting.

    In three sentences

The financial aid department is not helpful and employs students who are not knowledgable or professional. The parking at this university is unorganized and lacking for the size of the student population. Class sizes at this university are desirable.

It's still school food, but it's definitely not your typical cafeteria food. They have a good selection, and coming from a Vegetarian's perspective, the do try their best to cater to a variety of tastes. They even have a few vegan options, which is something I hear a lot of school don't even consider.

    Dorm Life

I was lucky enough to be placed in the new dorms my freshman year, and I enjoyed it. The rooms are close enough to the buildings that you'll hardly ever rely on the busses to get to and from class, but spread out enough that you do get to really enjoy the experience of staying on campus. I give it three stars because some of the more traditional dorms can be a little gross, but they are making renovations, rebuilding, and adding to what we already have, and they look nice.

You'll always have some classes that are easier than others, but the courses provided can be challenging. It all falls down to how much work you're willing to put into it.

    What to do for fun

Because this school is literally in the middle of nowhere, students are encouraged to be involved in the copious amount of on-campus activities. With this said students are also nudged in the direction of creating their own fun, which usually involves just hanging out with whoever at whoever's dorm, apartment, or house.

    Food and Dining

The food is not necessarily bad. It is not necessarily good either. If you know how to create a great tasting meal, then your skills will definitely be put to the test with the options offered at either dining location.

    Dorm Life

Due to the extreme updates to the dorms on campus, I am sure the dorm life is a lot more respectable than it was approximately 4-5 years ago. Nonetheless, it is textbook knowledge that dorm life is what you make it. The dorm style that the school used to provide enabled residents to form communities. The current style is much more private, encouraging secrecy and individualism.

    Academic Rigor

Those who are determined to succeed usually have many opportunities to do so. With that being said, no college is a smooth ride. The academics are not easy but with the right determination anything is possible.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is very affordable, but is not the cheapest. It is definitely in the middle of nowhere, which can help or hurt you. On a positive note, it provides a platform to network and make lifelong friends that you will definitely need throughout the experience. Because of the size of campus, it can be a close-knit community, perfect for those who may feel a bit uncomfortable and unrecognized on a larger campus.

    Campus Safety

Because it's a very small college town, it's extremely safe here. You can go out at 8pm or 3am and you'll feel completely safe. Not only is the campus safe but the surrounding is also. There's always someone walking around so you'll never feel scared from being alone but even if you are alone, the quiet is very peaceful.

    Greek Life

The Greek life here is amazing. If you're someone that loves to party but you're always about your academics, giving back to the community and making friends, Greek Life is for you. It's not only about partying, the Greek organizations are heavily involved in community service. It's great.

    Clubs and Activities

The vast clubs and activities opportunities is one of the best things about West Georgia. Whether you like to dance, draw, plan activities or even want to be a doctor, this school has something for you! For example, there's an organization called Emerging Healthcare Leaders that helps students interested in studying medicine receive volunteer clinical hours, and you receive mentoring. There are many organizations and clubs here, and you can also start a club!

Great for these types of students

Students that are interested in nursing will love West GA. They have one of the best nursing programs in the Southeast. Also, students that are very outgoing or looking to participate in more activities on campus will have many things to choose from.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's this funny tradition, well it's more like a myth that's been passed down where if you touch the white structure that sits in the middle of campus while you're still a student here, you won't graduate. It's really silly but funny to see the faces of freshman when they're told

    Bang for the buck

College isn't cheap and neither is West GA, but it is affordable. The perks that come with paying tuition and fees is great. It's worth it.

    What to do for fun

Besides partying with the Greek organizations, there is a campus game room that has a ping pong table, air hockey table, pool tables and game systems (Xbox, PS3 and Wii) that are completely free. If you're a competitive person, the game room is for you. There are clubs and organizations that throw on campus parties and carnivals in the Love Valley, which is awesome because they have food and rides!

    Food and Dining

The food is very diverse and the quality is nice. You're not stuck eating Ramen Noodles every night because West GA has awesome meal plans. There is everything from different fruit to Shrimp Po Boys. There are also restaurants surrounding the campus that take dining dollars (which comes with a meal plan) which is awesome when you just want to walk off campus and get food. The school is very big on encouraging students to eat healthy and serving us healthy food. There is also Chick Fil A, Subway, Starbucks, Burger Studio and Sushi Bowl on campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here is amazing. You can come and go as you want. The rooms are different sizes, depending on what Residence Hall you live in but they are all manageable. In some dorms, the students will have a bathroom to share with one roommate and a kitchenette or a room to share with a roommate and communal bathrooms. There are two laundry rooms in a building and study rooms on every floor, which is very helpful. There are also vending machines and elevators

    Academic Rigor

The teachers at this school are very helpful when it comes to academics. It is a lot of work and it gets challenging but if it isn't a challenge, it isn't worth it. There is torturing for all core classes for freshman and it is completely free. At the tutoring center, they are really helpful in the way that you walk out knowing you will pass the test rather than them doing the work for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus at least twice before making a decision to stay here because you have to go to a school that is perfect for you, no matter how good a school is, if you don't feel comfortable there then it isn't the school for you.Apply to as many scholarships as possible. Also, when you start school pace yourself. Don't throw yourself into a lot of different activities in the first few weeks of school because you'll burn out. Study! Read the material before you go to class and after you get out of class. Take advantage of the free tutoring, you'll need it. Don't be afraid to ask questions and most important, talk to someone if you're feeling uncomfortable in any way. The counseling department here is very helpful.

    In three sentences

West GA is in a small little college town that is that has an amazing community feel. West GA is a school that will challenge you academically and mentally but will strengthen you and help you to not only get a great job when you graduate but find out who you are and push you to be just that. The sky is the limit at the University of West Georgia. Go West!

    Food and Dining

You should not make the kids have a meal plan, it's unethical. Especially if the food is okay at best.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are alright, they just get really gross with community bathrooms.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Get up earlier to find a parking spot, and if you don't drive, show up to class 7 minutes early.

    In three sentences

As far as education goes, it's superb. I feel like campus is a tad small, the amount of incoming freshman made it so that there is nowhere to park. Which matters because it causes chaos.

    What to do for fun

It is parties that are being thrown in the apartments around the school but they always get shut down. The school hold events like open mic night and talents shows so I guess that's good. I recommend coming with a car because if you don't you will be stuck inside.

    Food and Dining

The food is repetitive. They serve the same food everyday and it starts to get tiring. The East Commons dining hall is 24 hours but if you don't have an unlimited meal plan you have to pay after 9pm and it's not worth it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great depending on which one you choose. Bowdon and Strozier are the dorms with community bathrooms and everywhere else you have your own bathroom!

    Academic Rigor

Some of the Professors are snappy and rude. They don't really care if you understand the information they just try to get through all of the information in a certain amount of time given. Grades are pretty straight forward but most classes only grade you for tests and quizzes so make sure you study. The tutoring wasn't helpful for me because they didn't help me understand the information they just told me that I am a hands on learner which I already knew.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in any of the dorms, but i know all of the apartments are kind of pricey but somewhat decent.

    Academic Rigor

There are a lot of academic programs that they offer. It is obviously not the top Academic school, however they still have a lot to offer.

    Tips for prospective students

Buy your own laptop and have somewhere to study during the day because the library is entirely to loud to focus. Never get sick because the wait at the infirmary is always at least 2 hours long. Leave for class extremely early to give yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot because it takes a long time.

Go to the gym, go shopping, hang out with friends. Do what you like to do and you still be sure to have fun.

    Food and Dining

There are 10 different locations of places to eat, like Chick-fil-A and Burger Studio, so you have endless possibilities. Dining of course is not going to be exactly like home, but it is good enough to have variety.

    Dorm Life

There are numerous places you can say and for the most part, there is nothing wrong that I have come across here as West Georgia. A dorm room allows you to be independent. No more Mom or Dad around, so you have to step up and become the closest thing you can to an adult. There is a lot of freedom, but choose everything and everywhere you go wisely. Most of all, do your work and have fun!

    Food and Dining

We have two main cafeterias that offer meal plans for a buffet style selection. We also have a food area in our campus center where they offer chick-fil-a, pizza, Chineese food and sushi, and a create your own burger place.

    Dorm Life

Dorms promote activities so that you can get to know your neighbors. Living on campus is more expensive but worth it if you do not have a car. Their is a bus system to take you to class or all classes are in walking distance if necessary.

    Academic Rigor

This is the second university I have attended and comparing the two, west Ga is more challenging. The academic rigor depends on the course you are taking.

    Tips for prospective students

In my opinion, the best tip to receive in school is, get involved. College does not have to be all about keeping your nose in the books. There are many opportunities to pass your free time with fun activities. You could join a sport, club, work on your fitness, be part of Greek life, and much more. In my experience college is more enjoyable and you will get the chance to meet people like you to help push you in the right direction. Everyone there is there for the same reason, to get a degree.

    In three sentences

There is a cat population on campus. There is an old guy who walks around everyday feeding the cats cans of tuna.

    What to do for fun

While there is not much to do in Carrollton, there are plenty of places within driving distance to visit. The mall is Douglasville is about 30 minutes away, Six Flags Over Georgia is about 40 minutes, and Atlanta is about a 45 minutes drive away. There are also other things to do such as Banning Mills Ziplining which is a 20 minute drive.

    Food and Dining

While the Z-6 is the traditional dining hall on campus, I would only recommend eating there for breakfast. However, the East Commons is a brand new dining hall that is open 24/7 and the food is much better than the Z-6.

    Dorm Life

The university is making major improvements to its housing. They have not only built two new dormitories within the past year but they have also renovated some. I enjoyed living in the dorms my freshmen year. I stayed in the Arbor View Apartments; it was awesome to have my own bedroom!

    Academic Rigor

I loved that all of my classes were small, the largest probably having 80 students, but most only having about 30. I only attended one class in a large lecture hall in which there were too many students for the professor to know everyone's name. The faculty often make an attempt to get to know each student in their classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class! It will be extremely hard to fail most classes if you attend class regularly. Most of my professors even gave points for attendance.

    Dorm Life

It has its downsides, but there have been recently new buildings put up for dorms.

    Academic Rigor

You will have to study in some courses, others not so much. It all depends on the professor you have, but there are plenty of ways to get assistance in course work.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn to handle time management. Just because you think you know more than the professor, doesn't mean you actually do. College isn't High School, no one wants to listen to antics during lectures. Turn the cell phones off during lectures. It's a little over an hour of class, you can manage that much.

Our Greek Life plays a big role here on campus. Personally, I would recommend waiting until your sophomore year, or at least rush Spring during your freshman year. I am so glad I waited to rush because I got to find out more about the sororities here on campus over the past two semesters; things you can't learn in a few days. Our Greek Life is the biggest social network this campus has to offer. It's either rush or be a GDI, Gosh Darn* Independent. I had this idea of what Greek life was prior coming to college, but West Ga Greek Life definitely changed that out look. Can't wait to rush fall. Go wolves!

    Clubs and Activities

Greek Life is the biggest. We have clubs pertaining to majors and interests as well, but Greek Life has the biggest presence.

Great for these types of students

Nursing students Business Students Education Majors Students with financial difficulty Students wanting to transfer to a bigger school

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the freshman lap in the fall at the stadium and then the senior final lap at the stadium in the spring. The Pub and Plates is where most people go to drink. Greek Village is a blessing and a curse because all the houses are put together, but not everyone gets along.

    Bang for the buck

Apply for scholarships. I was shocked when I heard that none of my friends got a refund. Basically you have a bill-breakdown and then you have your financial aid. Whatever you have left over is put on a debit card for you to use anywhere, not just on campus.

    What to do for fun

Pre-game, drink, frat parties, and events. That's about the regular here. We do have relay for life, and Greek Life hosts events dealing with their philanthropy. Also we have a good bit of concerts here. We've had Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr in the fall then Third Eye Blind, and Panic at the Disco this spring.

    Food and Dining

Waste of money. Unless its taco salad, or fried chicken, I hate eating at our East Commons and Z6. Everything else on campus, chick-fil-a, starbucks, sushi express, that burger place, are all delicious, but each meal averages at about $8 a meal. Now, as a freshman, you have to get a meal plan here. Sorry, but your parents need to know that you are being fed, even if the food is not edible. Sophomore year, you'll move off campus and never have to go there again. It's kind of like right of passage, in a way.

    Dorm Life

The only thing I hate about our dorm life is everybody who is around me. Quiet hours are a joke to be quiet frank. If it's 2 AM and some people above you are being loud, you have a better chance of getting anywhere when you go up there instead of sending an RA, who usually takes 45 minutes to an hour to finally get there. If you are OCD, get a single room. If you don't know anybody prior to coming to college, get a single room. My roommate is messy and I've just gotten to the point that anything on my desk, chair or bed that is not mine is thrown away. Oh, and if you are a slob, please do us all a favor and get your own room. You may be okay living in your own filth, but I'm sure your roommate won't be as enthused. And go co-ed. Even if you have a boyfriend back home, be in a co-ed dorm. Best decision I ever made

    Academic Rigor

Even though we were one on the top ten list for most drug and alcohol arrests (oops) we still take pride in our academic life. The library is open from Sunday at 2 until Friday at 8pm. We have on campus tutoring, a writing center to assist with essays, and some of the dorms even off tutoring in their lobby. The professors also are pretty good here about their office hours. I heard from other colleges that office hours were a joke and with the exception of two professors, I have always been to office hours for clarification or assistance.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't rush Greek Life right away, unless you are a legacy and know which house you want to rush. I waited and glad I did, but plan to rush fall of my sophomore year. It's super easy to make friends here. There are different aspects of student life you can get involved with. Student Government, something pertaining to your major, Greek life, and even sports. Don't get the unlimited food plan. Even if you don't go West. You'll want to avoid the freshman 15 (or more like 50 here) as much as possible. Don't pick up bad habits. You'll start and then in a few months realize how stupid it was to do it.

    In three sentences

At this point, we are all pretty much alcoholics, but we do take school seriously. 24/5 library hours and on campus tutoring are the most used campus resource. This is the perfect place to make mistakes and some good memories.

    Academic Rigor

When I went to visit UWG I spoke with some of the students already attending and many of them said that they were learning a lot from their courses. I'm excited to do this same this fall.
