Great for these types of students

I feel that just about anyone could fit in a Eau Claire, it is a bigger campus population wise but even in my 200 plus student sized classes I never had trouble talking to my professors if I had a problem. The nice thing about there being so many people is that there is a mixture of everything.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus in the spring/summer and fall so you get a feel for how walking across the bridge and up the hill are in different weather. Apply early so you can get better pickings on the dorm buildings Make sure you have taken all of the required high school courses

    Bang for the buck

For a public school I feel that I am receiving an excellent education. Eau Claire is constantly being ranked in national college lists. You also don't have to pay for books which is a huge plus.

    Am enjoying being here

Living on campus is great, my hall always had fun activities going on and it was really easy to become involved. There are so many different clubs and organizations that everyone can find something to join.

    Am learning a lot

I've only been here a year but in all of my classes I felt that the professors used innovative ways to teach us the material. They made us want to learn about the subjects they were teaching about, even in the GE classes that were unrelated to my major.

Great for these types of students

    - Athletes (lots of intramurals and sports clubs) /active people! - Musicians... music program is great and there are loads of performances to attend/participate in - People who are outgoing and like to party - People who want an academic challenge without the pressure of a Big Ten school

    Tips for prospective students

    - If living in dorms, choose Towers! (largest dorm, very easy to meet people, the hub of on-campus living) - Visit the campus when classes are in session... it makes a huge difference! - You WILL make friends and you WILL have the time of your life! Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new... chances are you'll be glad you did.

    Bang for the buck

College is never cheap, but costs are very reasonable (compare to UW-Madison) for the quality of education and the college experience you will receive. Lots of financial aid is available if you take the time to apply for it.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus is BEAUTIFUL, especially in fall and spring. Freshmen have a great view of the Chippewa River from the dorms! Weekends are very eventful and parties are plentiful. Great place for active people... lots of hiking/biking trails, workout facilities, floating down the river, etc...

    Am learning a lot

For a smaller university, UWEC offers a really wide range of classes. You can study anatomy, geology, and modern dance all in one day if you want. Professors are very passionate and really go out of their way to make sure students understand material. You will write a lot of papers (EC is known for it) but the practice and feedback is very beneficial. Nursing program is extremely competitive... beware if you're considering that as your major.

Great for these types of students

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire is a great school for anyone who wants to get a great education in a great city.

    Tips for prospective students

If you live on campus, go for towers. Its an awesome place, just to hang out with friends. If you're looking for an off campus place to live, there are tons of affordable apartments or efficiencies. The student center has wonderful food, make sure to hit that up. The University also offers a huge range of classes. There is something for everyone here.

    Bang for the buck

The level of education at UW-EC is outstanding, especially when compared to other schools in the University of Wisconsin system such as Madison, La Crosse, or Milwaukee.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to school in Eau Claire. The school itself is great, but so is the city of Eau Claire. Every year it is rated as one of the safest places to live in the nation. The campus is gorgeous. It has sprawling, open areas and Putnam Park right in the middle of everything, which is a nature area owned by the college. Also, its so easy to make friends here. Its a fun, beautiful place to be.

    Am learning a lot

I not only do I enjoy going to each class that I have taken at UW-EC, but I also enjoy learning from and talking to the professors. Every professor that I have even simply talked to is very enthusiastic with their subject. If a question is asked that the professor does not know, he or she will find someone who does know the answer, and will relay the message for you. In every class, I find that I want to learn more.

Great for these types of students

Eau Claire is a liberal arts school, great for students who would like to be more well-rounded in various areas of education and not solely on their specific major. This school is also great for students who do not yet know what they would like to major in. This is also a good school for students looking to go into either business, kinesiology, education, nursing, arts, and music.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to spend some time planning on which classes you need and want to take in order to be certain that you will graduate on time and not later than what you expected. This will save you and/or your parents big bucks if you have a plan for your road to success here at Eau Claire. Each student is also assigned to an advisor for course counseling. The advisors are usually helpful, but don't rely on them to know if you're on the right track for graduation and beyond.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that this is one area in which Eau Claire could improve on. Eau Claire is still one of the public universities that are still relatively affordable for middle-class families. Some of the facilities here on campus could use some revamping for modern-aged students to feel a little more comfortable at this campus with has a very long, as well as a, good reputation.

    Am enjoying being here

As I had mentioned before, the campus environment is great for learning experiences both in class and outside of class. I have met a lot of my friends through the classes I have taken, in the dorms, and also in the extracurricular activities that I participate in. It is easy to make friends here, and the best thing about it is that I am sure I will run into them again sometime soon, since Eau Claire isn't as big as schools like UW-Madison, but it's also not too small either.

    Am learning a lot

I'm halfway through my sophomore year here at Eau Claire, and I can definitely say that I have learned a lot, both in class and at college itself. The campus environment is great for learning experiences, these experiences have stuck with me and will continue to be used in my studies in becoming a physical therapist someday. I know that these experiences I have gained will make me a better person in the world after attending this liberal arts school. If there was ever a time I didn't quite understand something in class, I could be confident that I could ask my questions in class or outside of class with the professor and that they would do their best to find a way for me to understand the content of the class more clearly.

Great for these types of students

UWEC is a great university for music and education, but also those who are diligent enough to work in an environment with lots of distractions!

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to approach professors because they genuinely care and want to help. Also, a more general tip, check your email every day because things like class cancellations and tuition bills are sent via email and you do not want to miss them!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universities, UWEC is a very high quality institution for the price (for my fellow Minnesotans- it's like getting U of MN quality for Mankato prices!)

    Am enjoying being here

Unfortunately, there is a lot of drinking at UWEC and I felt extremely uncomfortable with the partying culture. There are many many things to do besides drink, but I found my peers opted out of more productive activities to drink.

    Am learning a lot

I am majoring in French and Psychology, and the professors in my departments are wonderful, especially in psychology. In general, professors and advisers are eager to help and UWEC is truly a teaching, not research, college, so the professors are really there for you. I had a bad professor or two, but they were definitely the exception, not the rule.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe all the time because there are police everywhere and emergency safety stations all around campus.

    Greek Life

I have no experience with this matter.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs that you can join, and they really get you involved with the university and the community.

Great for these types of students

Eau Claire is a great school for students who don't want to go to a huge school where there are tons of people. Even though there are 10,000 students at Eau Claire, I feel like I am a person, not a number.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

An unusual tradition on campus is sticking gum on the gum tree behind Murray.

    Bang for the buck

The room and board meal plan is a little pricey for me. This is because I know that in 16 weeks I do not eat more than $1,500 dollars worth of food.

    What to do for fun

In Eau Claire, there are many things to do for fun. In the Summer, many people like to float down the Chippewa River. Also, during the school year there are many shows on campus that brighten our horizon to different cultures. On Friday nights there are live bands that play on campus.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food was not the best quality but did have a wide variety of choices. The food was always fresh and there was always lots of it. The eating space was always clean, and the workers were so friendly.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is great! My Resident Advisor was so lovely and as a wing we did all sorts of fun activities together. Also, living in the dorms allowed me to make so many friends, whom I keep in touch with today.

    Academic Rigor

I have learned a lot by attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I have opened my eyes to many new experiences and learned many new perspectives.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend to use the online book system to order your books so that you don't have to stand in line for hours to pick up your books.

    In three sentences

I really enjoy attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The school is filled with intelligent professors that love what they do. Eau Claire is a joyful and welcoming community with beauty surrounding the campus.

Great for these types of students

Anyone that wants a great academics and a beautiful campus to spend their free time on (plus there is a pool and 3 workout/recreation areas open for your use if that's what you like to entertain yourself with), plus the library is huge and amazingly some parts are open 24/7 and the whole thing is during finals week (they provide you with free coffee) :)

    Tips for prospective students

Go visit and i can pretty much guarantee you'll love it just as much as i do!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universitys the tuition and room & board rates are on the lower end or comparable with all of the other public university's i looked at.

    Will enjoy being here

I loved visiting campus! it has all the cute little quirks of a small town university but is large enough to offer you almost any opportunity imaginable. Plus it was voted Wisconsin's most beautiful campus and i have to say it's true!

    Will learn a lot

this is rated one of the top in the mid-west for a reason, the academic programs are outstanding and there are *no TA's!

Great for these types of students

UWEC would be a great option for students who want more 1-on-1 interaction with professors, and prefer a smaller University. It is also an ideal school for those who wish to have a balanced blend between social and academics, and is willing to put forth effort. Provided that effort is put forth, having a fun time while maintaining a decent GPA shouldn't be too hard. It's an A+ school for B students.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and make sure to check out all the different scholarship options. Submitting your FAFSA application early is always a good choice. The application process for UWEC is rather seamless, and is actually pretty easy provided that potential students don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute. Make sure references listed are recent ones, and people that will be able to speak about you in a good light - in a rather objective manner.

    Bang for the buck

UWEC is definitely one of the cheaper schools out there. The education can be comparable to larger schools like Madison, and it is consistently ranked amongst the top Mid-west schools annually. Despite this, the cost for tuition is only around $4,500 a semester for in-state, and around $8,000 for out-of-state as compared to the $10,000+ costs per semester for other larger universities or private schools.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is really friendly at UWEC. Because of the small size, it is easier to build connections with people - especially if you work on campus where you interact with many students on a daily basis. The campus itself is really beautiful, and the RAs in the dorms are always looking for fun activities for the floors to do so that college can be a richer experience for everyone.

    Am learning a lot

UWEC is undoubetdly a good school. The professors are always willing to help you, and they want students to stop by the office to ask for help or even just to chat with them a little. The class sizes are a good size, as compared to the large lecture halls in larger schools like Madison. Because of the small class sizes, professors are able to know and help students better. By my first week, all my professors knew my name! The professors themselves have dedication towards teaching, and truly know what they are talking about.

Great for these types of students

Those who like being outside; musicians, business majors, nurses - these are three of the most well-known programs around here.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit here to see if you like it. Make sure it's a sunny day - I almost didn't go here because it was extremely foggy, rainy, etc. - but it's amazing out here when the weather is nice.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely - UWEC charges 12-18 credits at the exact same rate; they don't charge by credit, which makes the tuition much cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

I definitely enjoy being here - there is so much to do; watch a film, walk around, hang out near the dorms, play the piano (which is at the basement floor of my dorm), etc.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot. With very few exceptions, the professors here really do care about what they are doing (i.e. teaching), and they do it well.

Eau Claire is a great school for any student they will accomidate any learning style and also have tons of office hours so that anyone can get help.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get a orientation date early that way you can get in classes as early as possible also remember you have to take a placement test for Wisconsin schools

    Bang for the buck

Eau Claire is such a great deal. It not only has a textbook rental program but reasonable tuition and room and board. It also has a lot of free services for students like tutoring.

    Am enjoying being here

The hill may be hard but it keeps you in shape. The campus is beautiful and full of fun bubbly people.

    Am learning a lot

I love the small class sizes and the fact that the teachers learn your name and it is so easy to talk to them they are totally there for the students not the research.

Great for these types of students

I think Eau Claire is a place where anyone can come and feel comfortable!

    Tips for prospective students

My advice is to study hard but still have fun. There are many things to do around campus. Also, I advise to actually visit the campus to see what it's like and talk to students there to see what they have to say because they will often know more than the brochures have to tell you and will know of the fun places to go and things to do.

    Bang for the buck

Though it's a public school the staff and information you learn is great. I know college is expensive, but the price isn't that terrible when you consider everything the school has to offer such as the classes, living, transport systems, cafeteria and billiards area.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is great. It's nice and small and all in one area. Everything is in walking distance and if it is further away there is a free busing system! I met so many new friends and had a great time my first year. Not to mention, the campus is beautiful. There are many open areas where students lay and study and play games with their friends.

    Am learning a lot

Whats nice at Eau Claire is that the class sizes are small, even the larger lecture halls don't have that many students in them which makes an optimal learning environment. Eau Claire also offers a range of courses that are interesting to take whether it be for your major or just a fun class you'd be interested in.

Anyone! I've found that people are pretty accepting here, on the whole.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the library. Don't be afraid to explore every inch of every shelf, request things from other libraries, ask someone how to use the microfilm machines, or use Interlibrary loan to get a book that isn't available within the UW system. You'll find that it's not just a place to do research.

    Bang for the buck

With inflated tuition costs, it's hard to say exactly what's a bargain and what isn't. But all my above stuff should give you a good idea.

    Am enjoying being here

At this point, I don't know if there's any other school I would consider. Of course, being from Eau Claire originally, I might be biased, but now that I've gotten to knowing professors, using the library, taking advantage of all the facilities at my disposal--I've come to the conclusion that this college is probably where I'll be staying.

    Am learning a lot

Heck yes. Every single one of my professors makes sure that we know exactly what we need to when we walk out the door at the end of the semester.

Great for these types of students

    Anyone is welcome.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come for a campus visit; the only way you'll know if you will like it here or not is to come see for yourself. Make friends. College isn't any fun unless you have people you can have a good time with. Don't get too caught up with impressing people; people will come to you to be your friend as long as you are open and friendly to them. Lastly, just have fun. Don't stress yourself out by worrying about grades or getting a job. Sure, those things are important, but stressing out isn't going to help out with either situation. I have learned that it is best to just relax and allow things to play out as they are supposed to.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition here isn't too bad. It did go up a bit, but that was to help fund our new student center here on campus. The food isn't too bad either, so it isn't a waste of the money you pay for it.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. The layout is very nice, and there are plenty of places to go to just be out in nature. The bike trail is nearby as well, so there is definitely something for everyone to do.

    Am learning a lot

I think this university does a great job of teaching. I have learned a lot in all of the classes that I have had so far and typically enjoy going to them. The professors are great and are very helpful when I need help with someone.

    What to do for fun

there are a lot of things to do for fun! on campus you can go to the cabin which i highly recommend. there local bands as well as more well known ones traveling the country play there each friday and saturday night. it's a perfect place to go for a more relaxing night. free movies are also played for students in our on-campus movie theater. we have bowling, air hockey, and pool tables as well. also, we have a dance club here on campus called higherground featuring a dj on friday and saturday nights. off-campus there are a lot of places to go as well. there is a budget theater downtown which only charges $3 for a movie. there is a mall very nearby as well as another movie theater. in the summer there is a farmer's market downtown and for the adventurous types there is tubing on the great chippewa river.

    Food and Dining

the food here is good in my opinion. we have a lot of options and the most common meal plan is an all-you-can eat. on top of that we are provided a little over a hundred dollars to spend at the sub shops, frozen yogurt place, coffee shop, taco bell, or the on-campus convenience store.

    Dorm Life

i've been pleased with the dorm life. i live in towers north and it's a nice place to be, it's quite busy and loud on weekends however. maybe you will like that though. the dorm life is for some people and not for others, but it is a nice way to get to know people.

    Academic Rigor

in my experience so far, academics are very manageable as long as you stay on top of your work.

    Tips for prospective students

take a tour! there's no better way to see if a school is for you than to go and look for yourself. and ask questions when you do. we have a huge hill here that you'll be using every day, so come and see if you're up for the challenge!

    In three sentences

uwec is a really nice place to go to school. eau caire is a lovely town with a lot to do outdoors when it's nice out. the university offers many ways to get involved on campus and is very helpful with any questions you may have about your schooling.

    Food and Dining

the food is good. there's many options so if your on a diet there's food that will fit it. if you have a food allergy there's still stuff you can eat.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are nice but sometimes the kids are a bit noisy. ear plugs are a necessity

    Academic Rigor

the classes are challenging but not so much that it's impossible for you to pass the classes. there are tutoring services that are available as well.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

i have been walking around campus at 9pm and even past that and i've never felt threatened by anyone or anything. it's pretty safe on-campus.

    Clubs and Activities

i'm not involved in a whole lot of clubs but there are so many clubs and tons of activities to do. i'm in intervarsity which is one of the christian organizations on campus. i met 75% of the people i know through intervarsity, so definitely join a club because you really get to know people!!

Great for these types of students

nursing/csd/biology majors, students who like that small-town feel of a campus, athletic students

    Bang for the buck

good school. try to get scholarships... it can get a little pricey. i think the meal plans are overpriced.

    What to do for fun

go cliff diving at mount simon, rock climb at mcphee, go to higherground, walk in downtown eau claire and go to the acoustic cafe for some food and music, go for a run on putnam trail, watch movies in a friend's dorm room while snacking on popcorn and animal crackers, head to the oakwood mall for shopping, order toppers pizza, go to an exercise class in mcphee with a friend, play some sand volleyball on the courts in front of towers hall (when weather permits)

    Food and Dining

the food here is okay... it's not the healthiest, but i don't think any college will have home-cooked meals or anything like that!

    Dorm Life

i'm in towers north. decent space, i like most of the people on my floor. it's obviously not like back at home but it's cozy.

    Academic Rigor

teachers really try to push you to do good. there's a lot of smart kids here so it is competitive, sometimes the competitiveness depends on your major as well.

    Tips for prospective students

prepare yourself for the hill - it is really hard first semester. study for your tests - college is a lot harder than high school. school is important but make sure you explore all the different activities on and off campus - you only get 4 years here so make the most of it!

    In three sentences

a big-town school with a small town feel. there's always something to do and always people to talk to. overall, a great school.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe on campus. All the dorms have card swipers that students must swipe their blugold card through in order to enter the building. Each door has a special button combination (numbers 1-5) that they must type in to enter their room. Only roommates know these combinations, unless students decide to share with friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are LOTS of fun activities and clubs on campus! There is a skydiving club, IT club, Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), College Democrats and Republicans; basically any club you could think of! If students want to start clubs, it's not that difficult either.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is relatively inexpensive for Eau Claire, but you definitely get a quality education! My parents enjoy the price that they pay for my schooling versus my sister, who attends a private university.

    What to do for fun

Downtown Eau Claire is fun! There is a mall near campus, and the bus can take students there for free with their blugold ID. A lot of food areas are near the mall as well. Water Street is known for it's bars and college-like atmosphere, and some students may find fun things to do on Water Street. Other than that, there are a few towns not too far from Eau Claire. Campus activities are plentiful as well, and those are enjoyable to go to!

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is not spectacular at UWEC. They have fresh fruit and vegetables, but it isn't always actually fresh. Sometimes the apples and pears and very under or overripe. During weekends, there aren't as many options in the cafeteria. With the new student center, the meal plans have changed, and the staff hasn't been too willing to let people change them if they aren't happy.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is fun! I have lived in the dorms for my 2 years here, and I am living in the dorm this semester as well. I met some of my best friends in the dorms, and we plan to live together in the fall of our senior year as well. Get involved in the dorms and make tons of friends!

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is definitely difficult. Even though tuition is relatively inexpensive, the classes are difficult and you learn a lot. Some professors are better than others, obviously, as it is with any school. Just be prepared to work hard!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work hard! UW - Eau Claire has excellent and challenging programs. Join lots of clubs or extracurricular activities. I joined a few my sophomore year, but I wish I would have joined them earlier. Don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. College is a lot different than high school, so be prepared to do things you might not have done in high school.

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire has great faculty, great students, and great classes. The faculty is always willing to help students with questions, and are here to help them succeed. Students on campus are personable, and want to make great friends.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things that you can do from floating down the river when it is warm out. You can also go walk on Water St. where there are tons of shops, cafes, restaurants, and frozen yogurt shops. You can also easily take the city transit to bigger restaurants, the mall, and other stores

    Food and Dining

There are very good options when you are looking for something to eat. There is always something new to eat in the cafeteria or there are your everyday favorites like pasta, sandwiches, mexican, pizza, salad, and so much more.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very nice and clean, your resident advisor will make sure you are getting involved in all that you should and making the choices that will help you succeed while you are here. Finding a roommate before you come here is very easy and very easy to find someone that will fit in with your lifestyle and personality. Eau Claire takes the stress off of you about your roommate.

    Academic Rigor

Very challenging and difficult. You have to have good study habits and be able to focus and take time to sit down, study, and do your homework.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't freak out about school and dorm life, it's not that difficult. Try hard in your last semester of high school, every grade counts. If your a good student in high school or not, make sure you buckle down in college, your paying a lot of money for it.

    In three sentences

It is a beautiful campus especially in the fall. There are so many things to get involved with. The professors and students are also friendly and ready to help.

    Campus Safety

Safety is good on campus. Almost too good. The campus police love giving out underages and parking tickets, so be careful!

    Greek Life

Greek like is at Eau Claire, just like most other colleges. I don't hear much about it, but that could be because I am not in a Greek organization. I know people who are and they seem to like it!

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs for students to join! Most new students will go to the Blugold Organizations Bash (B.O.B.) in the beginning of the year and learn about the organizations that are offered on campus.

Great for these types of students

If you like the outdoors and getting your exercise, this is a good campus for you. The dorms are located on upper campus, and the academic buildings are located on lower campus. It is a short 10 minute walk from the dorms to the academic buildings, but the hill is a good workout!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Putnam rock is located a short walk from the Putnam parking lot. It is a neat rock formation that protrudes into the Chippewa River. Students like to hang out there on warm days or go fishing from the rock.

    Bang for the buck

Most of the academic advisors want you to get your degree in four years. Some are not as helpful as others, but if you find that your advisor isn't doing their job, email the department head and you will get the help that you need.

    What to do for fun

During the warmer months students will float down the Chippewa river. There are plenty of trails to go biking, running, and walking on right on the river also. Many students like the Frisbee golf course which is located on campus and is very convenient. On the weekends, the on-campus nightclub is always open until 2 AM.

    Food and Dining

Great selection of food. Lots of convenient dining locations on Water Street. The nicer restaurants are a few miles from campus, but the free bus system takes you right to most of them.

    Dorm Life

There are plenty of organized activities for students to participate in. If students don't want to do the activities, there are also tons of things to do off-campus.

    Academic Rigor

Good classes, the teachers are always willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard, but make time for a little fun here and there. If you have a lot of free time, get an on-campus job. It's convenient and easy money!

    In three sentences

Eau Claire has a great academic program with lots of choices of classes. The campus is located right on the Chippewa River and has lots of trails to hike and activities to do outside. There is a brand new student center being built and will be done for the Fall 2012 semester, it looks awesome!

Great for these types of students

If you don't want to go to a huge school with classes of over 400 people, but don't want to go to an itty bitty school in the middle of nowhere, UWEC is the perfect school for you. Their average class size is 20-40 people, although they also have lecture halls for the classes up to 100 people. Also if you love nature, the campus is located right on the Chippewa River!

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of on campus events held throughout the year that are almost always fun. There's also the mall and downtown, and you can get to either of these through the bus system in Eau Claire (which UWEC students get to use free!).

    Food and Dining

There are a numbeer of options for eating on campus. The cafeteria food is decent and edible for the most part, and the food in the booths around campus are delicious. Overall, not much to complain about.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are well organized, however there is a desperate need for another dorm. The school currently has students living in two of the local hotels for lack of room!

    Academic Rigor

The vast majority of the classes are more difficult than high school and require you tolearn and apply the knowledge. The professors are there to assist you as long as you're willing to put in the effort.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all of the opportunities available on campus as well as with classes! There are so many chances to make your college life more interesting and enjoyable!

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire is a fantastic school aimed at helping you become a well-rounded individual throughout your college career. The classes are brain-stimulating, and the professors are highly educated individuals who are there to help you whenever needed. I have no doubt in my mind that I made the right choice when I chose this school last year.

CUBE fest happens every year at the beginning of the year to try and integrate new students into the social life of the school. There are also many different things that each dorm will sponsor like archery events or even awkward dances where you compete to be the most awkward person in attendance.

    What to do for fun

There is a river flowing though the campus and a lot of people like to go tubing down it. It is fun to look down at the river bank while crossing the bridge because students spell things in the sand.

    Food and Dining

There are many different dining places inside the Davies Center on campus and most of them you can just use your Blugold card to pay with like it is a debit card.

    What to do for fun

There is a TON to do here for fun. The campus almost always has something going on. If it is warm people will walk up the river and float back to campus. There are numerous tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and people are almost always playing pick up games.

    Food and Dining

The Davies Center has awesome food, but you have to get the most expensive meal plan for it. The Riverview Cafe (the Caf) is okay, but I suggest getting food in your dorm and eating at the Caf only a couple times a week.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fairly strict, depending on which one you get put in. RAs here are very committed to their jobs and will make sure everyone is included and active in the school.

There is a Gum Tree behind Murray's Residence Hall. There are all kinds of gum stuck on the tree. There is also a huge hill that connects lower campus to upper campus (and the only way of getting to classes or to your dorm).

    Bang for the buck

This college looks expensive, and it is although at the same time it's worth it. However, when you lose grants and have too much scholarships in, you only have the option of taking out a loan. Some students have to take out more than they need!

    What to do for fun

There are many extra curricular activities, stores near by the dorms, and friends who will do anything with you like watch a movie or play a sport! Activities could be like Photography Club, Dance Team, Ski Club, and more. Some stores near by are Shopko, Hardee's, Taco Bell, Gordy's Market, and other stores.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining are okay as well. It's not the best food, but it's enough to get you by. Try to taste different foods in the cafeteria before judging it.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is okay. The walls are thin so your dorm neighbors and people outside of your room will be able to hear you (like on the phone). Some halls may have loud students which causes a lot of distractions.

    Academic Rigor

You really have to study. Some classes will kill your GPA if you're not keeping up. Other classes are very simple where you can read and memorize and you'll do fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Through the years, it seems the campus has become more racist, so beware and have an open mind. On the other hand, the difficulty of the classes you take depends on what kind of professor you have, so be ready to study hardcore and take college seriously. Make some friends because it can get lonely or you can seriously miss out on many events and fun activities.

There is a bowling alley on campus, sports clubs, a work out facility, fields for pick up games, movie theater, live entertainers, and other near by bars or eating locations.

    Food and Dining

The food is okay, but gets a little bland after a while. The main line serves obviously microwavable meals, but there are other options including a sandwich shop, Chinese, Mexican, or burgers.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are comfortable, if a little on the small side. Hint if you live on the 10th floor of Towers the water pressure is nothing to brag about. The UWEC also admits more students than they have dorms for so they house some of the students in an off campus hotel which from past experience is better furnished then the dorms, but a lot longer hike to obtain sustenance.

    Academic Rigor

I have previously attended the University of Minnesota and have found the classes at UWEC to be just as challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Get into shape prior to coming onto campus or otherwise the hill will kill you.

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin offers a wide variety of majors and extracurricular activities or clubs. located on the outskirts of Eau Claire the job and activity opportunities encompass a wide variety of interests. There are so many organizations and activities to become involved in on campus! There's also always something ogin on in Davies--the cabin has live local music every single weekend!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is generally pretty good. It's not exactly spectacular--but it's also not awful. There's always really good vegetarian options, and they have a constant supply of cereal and other options if you don't like the main dish options.

    Dorm Life

I love the dorms at UWEC. They're certainly not for everyone, but I have loved being a part of a community. I was initially really worried about being assigned to Oak Ridge Hall my freshman year (its the all girls dorm) but I actually ended up loving it. The girls that were on my floor that year are still some of my best friends today!

    Academic Rigor

The classes that I have taken so far have had a good amount of challenge--they are not easy by any means, and you do have to work to get a good grade, but they are also not impossibly difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

There are plenty of options as far as food. I do not stay to often since my classes are blocked together and I can leave after, but the commons is usually buzzing with people around lunch time.

    Dorm Life

I am unable to honestly give advice on dorm life since I have never lived in the dorms. However, due to friends and family who currently and previously attended I am willing to give 4 stars. Most people say that they are glad they went through the experience.

Great for these types of students

    Academic Rigor

I feel as though my classes do a very adequate job of challenging me academically, however I realize that there are schools that are much more challenging as well. However, I know I am getting a very strong education by the challenging, yet educational, academic load I have at this university.

    Tips for prospective students

My number one tip for prospective students would be to tour the campus first before making a decision. Although I love the campus, some people are not so fond of the segregated upper from lower campus regions.

The food and dining is also very nice too. This year we recently got a new student center and dining. They provide many variety of foods in the market place and they also provide a little grocery in upper campus. It is very nice to have a little grocery in upper campus because it makes it more convenient for students on campus. This store you can you your meal plan to purchase foods such as milks, cereal, breads, and etc.

    Dorm Life

My first year was great because I have the opportunity to stay in a hotel and still cost the same as regular dorms. I lived in Plaza Hotel and I get my own bathroom with my roommate! The hotel is only a couple blocks from campus. It is easy to get to campus because students get free rides on city bus. In addition my sophomore and junior year I lived in the dorm and it is fun. There is a tree behind Murray hall that is covered in ABC gum. People walking by stick their gum to it. It's weird, but it's there. A lot of people write their names on the beach by the river. They pile rocks up, so that you can read the names from the walk-bridge.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities in the area. While it's warm out, you can float down the Chippewa River on tubes, hike/bike the nature trails, or visit the many parks in the area. Downtown has many locations with live music. Historic Waterstreet (walking distance from campus) is known for it's coffee shops, bars, and other quaint shops. Shopping is best at the Oakwood Mall. There are also fun things on campus - concerts/recitals, plays, cultural events, recreation, trivia, intramural sports, open gym/swim. Higherground is an on-campus, alcohol-free club (so freshman can go too!) that has various theme dances every month!

    Food and Dining

For school food, I can't complain. The Hilltop Center Cafeteria (by the dorms) has a buffet line with whatever the meal of the day is, a grill with burgers, fries, and grilled cheese, a salad bar, a toaster, fountain drinks, soft-serve and scoop ice cream, a Mexican place, a sandwich place, a Chinese place, and a Pizza place. The Marketplace in Davies Student Center has build-your-own stir fry, pasta, pizza, Erb's & Gerb's, a grill (burgers, chicken, fries), soup/salad bar. There is also a coffee place and a fancier restaurant in Davies Center.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are ok. There's a dorm for any preference (unless you prefer privacy - then don't live in a dorm). Dorms are kept clean, bathrooms are cleaned every day, and each dorm has a basement kitchen with a stove, microwave, and fridge. Note: fridges and microwaves are NOT provided for individual rooms. The dorms are not air conditioned in the summer, so it will likely get really warm. In the winter, the heating systems are unpredictable, and you do not have your own heating controls. How much fun you have in the dorms really depends on the people on your floor, and your own personality. You can make it fun, or you can make yourself miserable.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of classes really depends on the class. So far, most of the classes I have taken here have been an appropriate amount of work - challenging, but not overwhelming. However, there have been a few classes that were a huge workload, so be prepared. You are going to run into that situation in any school, just be aware that it's coming, and plan accordingly.

    Tips for prospective students

Sit in on a class (or a few, if you can) that is specific to your major. It will give you a better idea of what to expect in your program, you can experience a class, meet the professor, and talk to current students. Know what you are looking for in a college - class sizes, personal help, campus activities, campus size (as in square footage), city size, local businesses/entertainment, etc. Eat in the cafeteria! I think it's decent for cafeteria food, but some people would rather eat Ramen every day than eat at the caf. Don't be afraid to talk to professors - they want you to succeed. Ask questions, ask for help; just be respectful.

    In three sentences

UW Eau Claire has top-notch academics. Professors are more than willing to help students who are willing to try. Class sizes are larger for general classes, but quite small for many degree-specific classes (such as music theory, initial teaching experience, etc.).

    Academic Rigor

It is definitely more challenging than high school but that's the way that it should be. There is the option to take really challenging classes if that is something that you would want to do but there are classes that provide just enough challenge so that you don't feel like your time is getting wasted going to class.

    Tips for prospective students

Even if you don't know what you might want to study you can still look at all of the options that Eau Claire has to offer. For students that have the time to spend at school on campus. If you plan on earning a business degree, make sure you take your business courses on campus, as there is an extra $160 per credit (not per course, per credit) for online options for these courses.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that there is a lot included with all the fees, but the food is over-priced.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of activities in and around the area depending on what your interests are - lots of water activities along the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers, multiple theaters and cinemas, plenty of shopping, restaurants, parks, concerts, city events, sporting events, clubs, and volunteer opportunities.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are interesting and professors will push you, but it doesn't seem like they go above and beyond to give you busy work or unrelated assignments.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you check which buildings and floors your classes are before you schedule classes. You could end up having to trek across campus multiple times and go up and down lots of stairs each day. If you decide to work while attending college, it's easier to block off a section of your day and try to get your classes done between a certain time as well. Get involved in something! Also, don't be afraid to approach professors if there is something you don't understand, as most are more than willing to help you out.

    In three sentences

It's a great low-key school for those that want just enough going on with a more rural feel. There is a lot of interaction between students and professors due to small class sizes. They believe in preparing you for life, not just a career.

i never have felt in danger ever.

council oak by the nursing building, a tree that native american tribes used to meet at. Our campus used to be a meeting ground. kinda neat!

    Bang for the buck

    cannot beat this price!!!!

    What to do for fun

water street! movies! sports! clubs! intramurals! party!

    Food and Dining

good at first but by the end of the semester it really takes a tolld on your body.

    Dorm Life

Standard dorm life. Partying not allowed but still happens if you can hide it from the RA's

    Academic Rigor

The classes are great. Some really high quality professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Just apply it is pretty easy to get in. I had a 24 act score and a 2.7 GPA and got in in less than a week.

    In three sentences

A great school at the right price. Cannot beat the education and professors. Located in a great town.

    Campus Safety

I haven't heard of anyone being attacked or anything on campus and there are police nearby all of the time. My only complaint is that in the winter when the hill is very icy it's pretty easy to fall and hurt yourself.

    Greek Life

There are Greek houses or groups or whatever you call them available but I'm not a very good judge considering I haven't and don't plan on joining any of them.

    Clubs and Activities

There are countless clubs and activities available and a club fair that can help you get involved.

Great for these types of students

As long as you're adaptive and friendly I'm sure you'll have fun here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There're two trees that people but all of their gum on. I suppose that's a little unusual.

    What to do for fun

There isn't much to do for fun, or maybe there is and I'm not aware of it. Eau Claire isn't much different than any other place. You can have fun if you know how to have fun. Hang out with friends, go to a movie, go try a new sport, join a club; these are just a few of the many things you can do on and off campus.

    Tips for prospective students

I don't have any tips for prospective students because I'm only just finishing my first semester. If I HAD to give one tip it would that if you're living in the dorms make sure you and your roommate get alone. Tension in your living space can cause issues elsewhere with your education.

    In three sentences

Overall, Eau Claire is a pretty nice place. The people are nice, and living is comfortable. The education is also worthwhile in my opinion.

    Clubs and Activities

Intramural sports are always fun and not too serious or competitive. For those who like to sing, there are many a cappella groups and more are forming if you want to show off your beatboxing, dance moves and voices!

Great for these types of students

Artistic, outgoing students will love it here. Athletic students might not want to come though, as there are no real standout sports besides hockey. For any students interested in science, the science program offers EXCELLENT research opportunities, like all-expenses-paid expeditions and such.

    Bang for the buck

It's a state school so it's not too expensive (but still expensive) but it's worth every penny and outshines many other private schools, especially in its music program.

    What to do for fun

Cliff diving, tubing down the river, biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, hiking, swimming, every sport you can think of, going downtown and exploring... everything at Eau Claire seems to be fun! There are so many things to do, even in the winter, and it's always easy to find people to do things with!

    Food and Dining

Hilltop Cafe gets very tiresome after about two months. The meals are usually not very appetizing, and the other side has Mexican food, sandwiches, and noodles, which are all very good, but still wear on you after a while. Hilltop has a great variety- vegan and gluten-free options are available and there is more fruit and breakfast-like options. Davies has better tasting food, at the cost of being unhealthier.

    Dorm Life

I couldn't be happier living in Governor's Hall. Everyone is so welcoming there, and it's well-maintained and usually under control but still fun. I'm always happy to go back to my room at the end of a long day, and from what I've seen, all the other dorms are just as nice if not even better.

    Academic Rigor

Every professor I've had is challenging enough to keep me interested but not too hard to discourage me, especially in the music department. Everyone interested in music should come see what the program is like here; it's unbelievable how serious and fantastic everyone is.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships, because money gets very stressful very quickly. However, don't get a job when you're on campus, or if you do, it should be 12 hours a week maximum. Your time should be dedicated completely to learning everything you can about your major. That's why you're at college, right?

    In three sentences

University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire is the most ideal environment for someone transitioning into an autonomous lifestyle. Everyone is motivated, dedicated, fun, nice and supportive, and it's a beautiful place to be. I'm happier than I ever thought I could be now that I'm at school in Eau Claire.

    Campus Safety

    Feel very safe on campus.

    Greek Life

Not much greek life, but we do have it.

    What to do for fun

Bowling, floating down the river, walking along river, hang out on water street, go to the mall, inter-murals, sporting events, and many others.

    Food and Dining

Good food, but not the best. Davies student center has awesome food and so does Einstein's but the the Riverview Cafe is not my first pick for food.

    Dorm Life

Many different dorms available ranging from small to large, to all boys/girls to mixed. Some dorms are more nice than others, but also it is dorm living, not luxury living.

    In three sentences

Eau Claire is a very open and welcoming school. Very friendly people and great school for education. I would rate this school at least an 8.

    What to do for fun

If you have a camera, my suggestion is to bring it and look through the lens and see all the wonderful things on campus. Not only is it beautiful, but there is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

If you like food, my guess is you will love the options here. The choices vary daily, but they always have fresh fruit and healthier choices.

    Dorm Life

I live in the dorms, but I didn't get into the one I asked for. I had a bad roommate situation, which did not help. After the first semester, I found out I could change halls and rooms and it wasn't that hard to accomplish.

    Academic Rigor

This may be just me, but in high school we had study guides. Not all of my classes are difficult, but I personally miss the security of study guides. Don't let that scare you though, once you are past the first test, the rest become easier.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for incoming students would be, don't worry about the high school level material, you will learn everything you need here. The professors are easy to talk to and many people are willing to help you if you find yourself in a difficult situation. Just ask for help.

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a beautiful campus and it helped me decide to come here. The campus has many opportunities to join and participate in activities. All the people I have met here, have made UW-Eau Claire the best place for enjoying the college life.

    Greek Life

    Not very thriving.

    Food and Dining

Hilltop has an okay selection but Davies center does not have an array of healthy block meals to choose from.

    Dorm Life

The dorm rooms themselves are terrible but the experience they allow you to take part in is wonderful. I would suggest living on campus for 2 years even though many people move off. They dorms allow you to meet many friends that you would not usually have classes with.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not get too stressed in seemingly difficult classes, breathe. Go into your teachers office hours they have them to help you and would much rather have you going in all the time then having you be lost in a class. You do not have to drink. Find other ways to spend your weekends besides wasting money on alcohol.

    In three sentences

Eau Claire is a stagnant laid-back school that is always looking for ways to make Wisconsin look more sophisticated. It has a beautiful campus for 3 to 4 months of your school year but if you enjoy winter then year round beauty will surround. It is a great fit for some and not so much for others.
