Great for these types of students

UW-O is perfect for students who are interested in experiencing new things. The campus is ideal for active students & athletes of all kinds. There is a club on campus for everyone, so you will be sure to find your niche.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, tour the campus in the fall. Try to get a private tour if possible, there are more perks. Compare this school to others, although it will be hard to find a school cooler than UW-O. Don't overly stress about your application, but take time to be thorough in it. Make sure you talk to other UW-O students too, they can be very beneficial.

    Bang for the buck

UW-O is one of the cheapest Wisconsin 4 year universities to attend. After touring other UW schools I found that for the amount I am paying I am receiving a much better education than other more expensive schools. Financial aide is readily available & often times students receive more money than needed.

    Am enjoying being here

Oshkosh has something for everyone, whether you like sports, on campus clubs, or just relaxing there is something here for everyone. You will have no problem fitting in, especially if you choose to get involved in some way. Living in the dorms is pretty sweet too. The CA's are super helpful, as well as the rest of the Residence Life staff. The transition from high school to college is a breeze, especially at UW-O.

    Am learning a lot

By having a mixture in class size I am beginning to see what works best for me. Pit classes are generally the hardest to learn in, but having a great professor makes things a lot easier. Professors are generally easy going & really are here to help you learn. They strive to learn your names & enjoy answering questions you may have.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students looking for a way to be involved with other students and take on leadership roles. Anyone who enjoys helping those around them will feel right at home joining the different organizations who run campus life.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend to every student to get involved in the student government. It is a flawless way to meet new people, have fun, and help the university. It is also extremely important to be aware of your own needs and attend to them. If you are having any troubles with your roommate, your floor, or even a friend, talk to someone. Never be afraid to reach out to your Campus Advisor, academic advisor, or the professional advisors located on campus. They will always help you to fix a situation.

    Bang for the buck

UW Oshkosh is such an exciting school to attend. There are always community events occurring and so many diverse ways to get involved and meet new people. The residence halls are also very well kept and safe. There are many measures taken to ensure the safety and integrity of the residents, such as locked resident halls to anyone without a key card, and bathroom keys for every floor. Every night there are guards at each entrance to ensure the protection of students, as well. The university itself offers a wide variety of majors, minors, and general education classes for anyone to enroll. The classes are very educational, and always appropriately challenging.

    Am enjoying being here

For perhaps the first month or so of my college experience I was very upset and lonely. I did not know a single person and I wasn't getting along with my roommate. But after meeting just one person and talking to my academic advisor my whole life has changed for the better. Not only did I change rooms, but I joined my hall government and then the United Students in Residence Hall association. I have met wonderful, well-rounded people who have made my life so much better. Now I am also the Director of Internal Affairs for that organization and get to personally help many new freshman along with returning students. But UW Oshkosh offers so much more than great friends, it offers a great education. My classes are always enjoyable thanks to my up beat teachers and staff. It is also a very safe, community aware neighborhood. The campus is small enough that everyone is united and you can always walk down the street to visit friends or go shopping.

    Am learning a lot

Coming from a small, private high school in Milwaukee, I did not know what to expect from my college classes. I was stunned to learn how diverse all of my classes are and how easy it is to understand my lessons. Whenever I do have difficulty with a class, my professors have always been there to help explain what it is that I am not understanding. None of my classes have been too challenging, but they have never been too difficult, either. All the professors are also very animated and make the class enjoyable and interesting.

Great for these types of students

Those who want a personal college experience, theatre and visual arts majors, those looking to go into TV, radio, or film, and those who want an affordable but rewarding college.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in the freshman village, NBC! It's a great experience and everyone is going through their first year of college together. The NBC staff is so helpful, and together everyone helps each other get through the tough parts of college.

    Bang for the buck

Of course all college is expensive, but Oshkosh is reasonably priced for the education you get. And the fitness and recreation center is included in the tuition cost already, as well as an extra interim class.

    Am enjoying being here

Oshkosh is the perfect size--big enough that there are plenty of new people to meet, and from all social groups, but small enough that it's not impersonal. The surrounding community is beautiful and full of history and culture, especially downtown Main Street. The campus itself is compact so there's no ridiculous walking distance to your classes.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are helpful and full of knowledge, and I'm having a great learning experience. The theatre department is especially great for hands-on learning first-hand. I've learned more about the theatre arts here in a few months than I have in four years of high school.

Great for these types of students

If you like learning about many different things and don't mind different learning styles, than this college is right for you. Most teachers use powerpoints for their lectures and class. However, some still plain lectures, so make sure to take good notes.

    Tips for prospective students

The application process can be made easier as long as you strive for good grades and a good score on your ACT. And with a good application essay, you're almost guaranteed a spot in the college.

    Bang for the buck

It is probably one of the best UW schools and it's relatively cheap considering if offers so many programs for majors and minors.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the atmosphere here! People are really friendly and it's always nice to be able to email anyone from my classes and get a response within the next day or two saying what our homework is or with an attachment of the day's notes.

    Am learning a lot

The classes range from pit (100-200), to large (29-100), to small (12-28). However, each class is taught by a teacher who will be more than happy to help you if you ask for it. The teachers use many different teaching methods, meaning that you'll find at least one effective way in learning the material.

Great for these types of students

What can I say that I already haven't! Oshkosh has been the greatest experience for college that anyone could ever imagine. The campus is close to 13,000 students but feels a lot smaller, the professors are super helpful and there is so much to do! Take full advantage of everything in college because these are supposed to be the best years of your life. Gain as much knowledge as possible and make the most of it.

    Tips for prospective students

The food is great!! There are many choices, from pizza hut to Culver's style grill food to freshens smoothies to create your own salad to blackhawk commons where its all you care to eat! Were getting two new buildings this year, a brand new state-of-the-art environmentally friendly business building with a einstein bagels eatery as well as a suite style dorm building with air conditioning and wi-fi. The recreation center is only a few years old and is FREE to all active students. There is always parking available to commuters and/or students who want to keep a car on campus or a free (with student ID) bus transit throughout the entire city. Were right on the river so fishing for the day or renting a kayak can make a warm sunny day enjoyable. Finally, Oshkosh is in the middle of lively cities: Appleton is only a 20 minute drive while Green Bay and Milwaukee are about an hour.

    Bang for the buck

Unfortunately I do not qualify for FAFSA but I have loans to help assist with tuition however Oshkosh is one of the cheapest tuitions in the entire UW system, truly getting you the biggest bank for your buck. The education is liberal, the campus is beautiful and compact with only a ten minute maximum walk from end to end.

    Am enjoying being here

When I came to Oshkosh, it was like UW-high school. Everyone from my school came here with me, which made me flustered because I wanted to meet new people and get away from all the drama. However, most of those people were weeded out after the first year because they all stuck together and didn't branch out and the city wasn't for them. Coming from a big city (Madison) to Oshkosh was a big difference but I wouldn't leave! I've met some of the best people here who all share the same personality, including my freshman year random roommate, of whom I still live with three years later. There is lots to get involved with on and off campus and promise to not disappoint.

    Am learning a lot

Adjusting from high school to college is a HUGE task! It goes from daily assignments to studying, studying, and more studying. Time management and self discipline are the biggest necessities for succeeding in college. Oshkosh has wonderful professors that help their students jump feet first into the water but never lets them drown. The easiest way to get a good grade, besides studying, is getting to know the professors. They want to help you learn and succeed, that's what they are there for. Also, attend class because that's what will help you learn the most!

    Tips for prospective students

A good tip is to meet the people on your dorm floor! It's really fun to get to know everyone because you'll be living in such tight quarters for a year. Also, stay active and be involved on campus. There are many ways you can meet people and have fun. I joined a soccer intermural team and it was so fun to meet new people and try something new.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, the campus is really worth the money you pay. The only thing that I dislike about the money aspect of this college is that the food selection isn't worth the $1,200 you pay a semester. Some examples are: at one of the food locations (Reeve Memorial and Mi Taza) one single hard boiled egg is considered a side, which to me is ridiculous because another side could be chips, frys, mashed potatoes. Also, at Reeve Memorial, they are very picky at what you can add on to your meal. For example, at Titan Tacos, if you didn't want tomatos but wanted to add sour cream, they won't let you unless they charge you extra. Or on a burrito if you wanted beans instead of rice they won't allow that either. I feel that if I'm paying $1,200 a semester for food, I should be able to get what I want and where I want.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE going to school at Oshkosh. This school has many things available to keep anyone busy. From tons of intermural sports, to regular season sports, to frats and sorority and many educational clubs. One of my favorite things to do during my free time is work at at the rec center. This rec center is newly built and is huge! There is indoor basketball courts, indoor and outdoor volleyball courts, a full track, 2 studios that offer free exercise classes (which are really fun!) and a variety of exercise machines!

    Am learning a lot

This campus has a variety of ways to help you succeed in the classroom. First off, there are a mixture of big pit lecture halls or small size classes. If you're accepted into the UW-Honors program you're class sizes are no larger than 15 kids. Also, there are many posters hung up around school offering tutors. For me math has always been a struggle but the free math lab has tutors who are there especially for your individual math class. The teachers are always willing to help you or ask questions if you need to. Overall, this campus is a great educational UW school.

This college is great for students who are willing to become an successful nurse.

    Will enjoy being here

My name is Starlisha J Williams and I am in the eleventh grade at Madison high school in Milwaukee WI. I am very interested in this college and is looking forward to going here in the year of 2012. I am sure that this is the best college for me to attend at for my RN career.

Great for these types of students

Radio-TV-Film or Theatre students will love this school. Any form of communications. The nursing department is very well known as well and the art department is a lot of fun. Students who are unsure of what major they want to get into.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to ask questions and get help from your advisor. Look into all areas of study you may be even remotely interested in and make sure you get involved in the hands on opportunities, keep an open mind and just have fun.

    Bang for the buck

For the cost of the schooling, other than the gen ed courses, UWO is most definitely worth the money, its fairly cheap and depending on your major you will have an amazing experience and be ready for the real world of work after you graduate.

    Am enjoying being here

The student organizations and the opportunities offered at UWO are unending and a lot of fun. I am enjoying my major a lot and love all the hands on time I get. The majors are not segregated like at many schools, you get to meet everyone and have so many fun opportunities.

    Am learning a lot

Gen Eds at this school are not the greatest, large pit classes and very very basic lessons just to get you through the classes. However my major (Radio-TV-Film) and my Minor (Theatre) departments are very well organized and have many amazing professors with a lot of in the field experience. If communications is your ideal area of study then UWO is the UW school for you.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for any and all types of students, we have honors classes, mass amounts of athletic events, lots of different clubs and organizations and plenty of social events to go out and meet new people at.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend touring campus early, asking any and all questions you may have during your tour and then walking around a bit on your own. Also, the university website has a place where guests can go and scope out the available classes online without any sort of registration. I used this before applying and it really helped reassure me that I was making the right decision.

    Bang for the buck

Helpful professors, a beautiful campus and a large spectrum of available classes, majors and minors really make me feel like I'm getting the most for my money. never once have I woken up or gone somewhere on campus thinking This place is such a waste of money...

    Am enjoying being here

Most of the professors are really nice and helpful so I'm never uncomfortable going up to them to ask a question. The campus is so beautiful, I have studied outside between classes because it's so calm and relaxing. Also, there are so many clubs and organizations to join I have a hard time choosing which ones to join!

    Am learning a lot

There are so many different class sizes which is great, after my freshman year I learned which student to teacher ratios worked best for me and having such a broad array of class sizes is really helpful in choosing classes that will benefit me the most.

Great for these types of students

While Oshkosh is most known for their Education Program and their Nursing Program, we have a phenomenal Business Program as well along with many other programs that are offered. If Oshkosh is even an option on your list of colleges to attend, give a moment's notice to all of the majors and minors that are offered because you will be surprised what you will find. Here at Oshkosh, there is a program for just about everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all that Oshkosh has to offer. Go to as many on campus activities as you possibly can, join all the clubs that you have time for, and just get out there and meet as many people as possible. College is not easy, but with the right group of friends and the right support, anyone can do this. Keep your head up when classes get difficult or when you have a large course load and just keep the ultimate goal in mind: to achieve in the best way possible and graduate with the best degree you can imagine. An education here, is more than just an education. It's a lifetime of happiness and courage.

    Bang for the buck

It is well known that college is expensive, but once you take a step back and think about everything that is included in those already paid for expenses, you get so much for what you pay for. Free gym membership as long as you're a student, free on campus activities, many discounted items and activities, a great support system, amazing food, and an even more amazing team of professors as well as classmates and other faculty. Compared to other schools, the parking is much less in price, and that's not to mention being able to ride the city bus absolutely free along with so many more free or extremely discounted things that you can find!

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much to do, both on and off campus, and it makes going to college here that much better. Between the activities that take place in Reeve Memorial Union, the activities that all of the clubs put together, being involved in a club, and the off campus activities that Oshkosh itself holds, going to school here is more than that: it's being a member of this campus and being a resident of Oshkosh. Here at Oshkosh, it is very difficult not to feel welcome.

    Am learning a lot

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh offers a plethora of opportunities for students of all backgrounds. The amazing professors here at Oshkosh not only care about the subjects that they teach, but care about their students as well. Here, I am not just a number on their roster, I am a contributing student to the class and I love that. I have not only learned a lot about my major and my minor, but I have learned a lot about myself as well.

It is a great Liberal Arts environment and Fabulous for Non-Traditional students! If your geared to going on for your Masters or PhD, are a first generation student, low income or under represented, check out the McNair Scholars Program! It pays you to do summer research and helps you get a high GPA score! McNair Scholars are th highest sought after students and often get their tuition paid!

    Tips for prospective students

If your thinking about Nursing, It is very competitive and very hard to get accepted.

    Bang for the buck

Non-Traditional studetns pay about $400 extra per class and are subject to only online classes, which works for most adults, however the tuition at any WI state funded university keeps going up every year which limits allot of people from attending. Check into do your gen ed. classes at a technical college and transfer them in to pay less tuition in the end.

It's a great university for any students I believe. For the party people, we have bars and frat houses all around campus. For the academic, we have a good library and a great student support building to help tutor students. For the gamers and those whole likes to play games, we have a good community of people who loves games.

    Tips for prospective students

Just like any other campuses. It's a little boring and sometimes things might not seem exciting. That's when your imagination kicks in and your life on campus becomes interesting.

    Bang for the buck

You get what you pay for. That doesn't mean people fully take advantage of all that they pay for. Either way, this University offers a lot of opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

UW Oshkosh is a decent size campus with a nice community of people. Despite being surrounded by bars everyone knows their limits and the atmosphere is nice.

    Am learning a lot

Just like every colleges out there I presume, this is a college. It's no longer high school. If you don't keep up with your studies you will not learn. Your educational experiences and learning experiences are based on your willing to learn. Most professors teach at a decent pace where one cannot fall behind unless you skip class for a week. Some professors are even nice enough to go one on one with you after class to clarify any misunderstanding you might have.

    Bang for the buck

The dining hall is an amazing deal. You pay for one meal and get as much food as you want.

    What to do for fun

I like to workout at the amazing Rec and Wellness Center. There is a rock climbing wall that's so much fun. I also like to go on the trails there. There is so much to do at the University of Oshkosh and I love it.

    Food and Dining

The food options around Oshkosh's campus is great. They have a variety of options, from subs to pasta to pizza to salad. The thing I love most about the dining there is the buffet style. You pay for one meal and get as much food as you want and whatever food you want.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are GREAT! They are set up so that you can make friends with both girls and boys. Also, there is lounges to hang out in big groups. All together, it is a great environment.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Oshkosh are very interesting and can be rigorous. No matter what the class is, the teacher makes sure to make it hard for the students but are not afraid to be there to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Oshkosh is a great school, but make sure that you are going there to work. The classes make you work, but are very rewarding. Don't be afraid to ask for help; the library has a lot of help programs

    In three sentences

It's not for everyone. I thought I was ready to be away from home, when in reality I was the exact opposite. I went home every single weekend of my freshman year.

    Academic Rigor

I would say it is average. I went to UWO my freshman year of college and slacked off a lot, but now I am ready to go back and do my best.

    Tips for prospective students

Start everything early and make sure to look into financial aid. I am kicking myself now for not looking for scholarships sooner when I am already $10,000 in debt for loans. Also, don't take loans for stupid reasons, you will only end up regreting it.

    What to do for fun

The university provides many student run activities on a weekly basis, in addition to a plethora of clubs and organizations to join.

    Food and Dining

Some food is better than others. University dining is equivalent to high school cafeteria food-- first flash frozen then thawed by unhappy lunch ladies. Most if it is self service so you can pick and choose what you'd like, and over time you learn the hard way what's good and what is not.

    Dorm Life

Rooms are small and cramped, definitely not large enough for two people to live comfortably together, especially strangers. There is a community bathroom shared by everyone on the floor and it gets pretty gross sometimes. However, the residence halls are cleaned daily.

    Academic Rigor

Some courses are obviously more difficult than others, but each class has assignments and homework that are completely relevant to the course topic.

    Tips for prospective students

UWO is a great place for one to complete his/her undergraduate degree. Knowledgeable professors with long backgrounds in their field as well as friendly staff members to help you through the first year of your journey here. Great place to start a college career.

    In three sentences

Overall a decent school to get ones undergraduate degree. Dorm life and dining is disappointing, but the array of clubs and activities is almost unlimited, as well as access to a 24 hour student recreation and wellness center. Campus is beautiful and well maintained.

In the year that I was there, I didn't hear about a single rape or anything that happened, the campus police do a great job of keeping its students safe, as well as sending out emails about things to be aware of.

Great for these types of students

UWO has a very wide array of students. They have many international students come in as well as LGTB friendly campus.

    What to do for fun

The rec center has many things you can rent out to do for fun, you have options like taking a canoe out on the river or rollerblading around campus. on rainy days or cold days you can rent out games or pool items to go play. Every friday the campus holds Titan Nights where they have games and things for the students to play they also have a poker company come and have students play for cash prizes every month as well as in the spring time they have a concert put on by a popular music group (this past year it was all time low) as well as other various activities for the the students to do.

    Food and Dining

UWO was rated to have the best campus food of all the UW systems. There is a great variety of food and a ton of different spots for food.

    Dorm Life

The rooms are actually pretty big and you have your choice to live in an all girls floor, a winged floor where guys are on one side girls are on the other or a scattered floor. Each floor also has events that go on at least every month. The only thing that isn't too great is that you have to have a bathroom key which makes it annoying when going to shower or when you really have to pee.

    Academic Rigor

New friends and a lot of freedom allow students to forget about their studies making it difficult for them to catch up, however, teachers are willing to work with the students to help them pass but make sure its within a reasonable amount of time not just at the end of the semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you talk to your teachers! Also make sure you go to any SI's that are available and READ THE BOOKS! College is an amazing experience and you can often times get caught up in all the new found freedom and forget about school, it's good to enjoy your first year at school but make sure your studies don't suffer because of it.

    In three sentences

Before even being accepted to the UWO, I took a tour and knew this college was for me the campus was so beautiful, the people were for the most part all friendly, and the food actually wasn't that bad. After attending the college I learned to love it even more, the teachers were very considerate and helped their students in whatever way they could. There were also so many fun activities to do around campus there was about one every day.

There is a lot to do for fun on campus. Every month there is something called Titan Nights which is free for students, and they provide entertainment, crafts, and a late night breakfast. Dorm life is great! There are always activities going on in the dorms that help new students meet new people and make new friends. There is always someone to talk to if you have questions about campus, classes, or even the city!

Some of the classes can be quite difficult. However, if you are willing to put in the time, you will be able to set yourself up for success. Almost all of the professors are willing to help you out if you need it.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend ALL classes, and make a good impression on every professor. Bang for the buck

Center for New Learning classes are HELLO expensive. Much more expensive than a traditional classroom. so if you have the time and ability to be in class- it is a smarter financial choice. However I work full time and appreciate the flexibility of online learning. I wouldn't have been able to obtain my degree any other way.

    What to do for fun

There is always something happening in Reeve Union. And we get email updates about all the events on campus. It is really great to go to these events and meet new people, socialize and network.

The rigor has been average. Some of my classes have had a ton of homework, while others not as much. But I feel the depth of the learned materials really is spread equally across the board. I really enjoy discussions with other students, we can all learn from each other.

    Tips for prospective students

Be in control of your future and plan accordingly for all classes per semester, financial aid, and your homework! Do not procrastinate. If you don't love or at least like what you're learning about, do you think it is the right major for you?

    In three sentences

I'm currently enrolled in the Center for New Learning Bachelor's education program, the online website (D2L) and professor's have been extremely helpful in learning and navigating assignments and discussion boards. I love my classes and the structure is similar to an in-classroom class except we are in virtual classrooms. My only complaint is my advisor has not been on-top of my graduation requirements.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is something they take very serious here in Oshkosh. They have there very own campus police and the city of Oshkosh police. So there are police for the campus and the city. Also, we have what's called CSO's. They are security that will help you anytime you need it. Let's say you are off campus and its night time and you're by yourself, you can call the CSO's and they can come get you and walk you to your dorm, no matter where you are. There are also emergency buttons scatter around campus. With the emergency button, if you feel like you are being watched or just unsafe period, you can press that button and either a CSO or a campus police officer will come to get you and take you where you need to go. So campus safety is taken very seriously here at UW- Oshkosh.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is wonderful. There are I believe four fraternities and four sororities. They are for any and everyone.

You like to act, we have our own TV channel where you can be on shows created by the producers and directors (this is something I enjoy so I do it a lot). What to do for fun

There's so much to do for fun. In the dorms, each dorm will have their own little party. Even if you aren't in that dorm, you can still attend. On the first Friday of every month, there is something called titan nights. Titan nights is when they will have things like a recent movie to watch in the theater. Also they have hypnotists and comedians come. They also have two people come and draw character pictures of anybody that want one. There is so much to do for fun here on campus, it would need a whole essay by itself to tell you.

    Campus Safety

Constant seminars and talks are held at Reeve Union to discuss this topic. The facilities all have a security lock system that prevents anyone without a card from entering at late hours. I have never felt threatened while walking the campus at night.

    Greek Life

I have not had much experience with the Greek Life here, but from what I can tell they are quite active and have a presence on the campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There is so much to do here. I have been involved in Cross Country\Track and Field, Model United Nations and Philosophy Club. There are countless other clubs and activities I have wanted to try, but have not had time for. You will have a tough time limiting your plate of extracurricular involvement!

Great for these types of students

Since the student body is the third largest in Wisconsin, there are groups for almost anyone. You can find your niche anywhere!

    Bang for the buck

For little over $7000 grand of tuition, one has access to a respectable faculty, awesome athletic facilities and modern buildings. One can pay for their tuition through scholarships or a summer job. However, you are not sacrificing quality for cheapness.

    What to do for fun

A plethora of activities are offered on campus almost every day. From our prestigious athletic teams to speakers such as James Jones and recent movies offered in Reeve Union like The Amazing Spiderman it is impossible to be bored.

    Food and Dining

I find the food provided by Blackhawk to be quite satisfactory. Basic foods such as pizza, chicken sandwiches, pasta, salad, cereal and ice cream are offered almost every day. The Taste of Nations program allows students to have an ethnic dish once or twice a month. If you are not feeling Blackhawk, there are other options on campus. Reeve Union offers several small restaurants and and there are some restaurants in the dorms. One may get tired of the same dishes or feel obligated to eat more in the buffet style of Blackhawk.

    Dorm Life

A huge variety of people to interact with in almost every dorm. There is a vast amount of activities available on any night of the week. It is literally impossible to be bored. On the other hand, the constant activity makes sleeping sometimes difficult. The new state of the art dorms such as Horizon Village offer an impressive experience for the young undergraduate.

    Academic Rigor

While not the most challenging course load, UWO has some intense classes that require significant effort. Usually if you take 12-15 credits you need to study 10-15 hours to get an A or B. If you consistently show up to lectures and take good notes you will be fine. I have always learned a lot in class even if I have not worked that hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a quiet place to study since there are people everywhere on this campus. Do not be consumed by the party life. Take advantage of Reeve Union and the new facilities on campus.

    In three sentences

Vibrant, populous campus that is like a city within a city. A rising faculty will prepare you in any career field. Unbelievable amounts of opportunity both in and out of the classroom.

The food here is good and I loved it at first. There is a lot of variety in the food except the variety is always the same, so if you are a picky eater you will always be eating the same thing or stocking up on microwave food. Something I love is that about once a month they have what is called premium night where they have some really awesome food such as shrimp, prime rib, or tortellini.

    Dorm Life

The Dorm Life is much better then I had anticipated. I live in an air conditioned dorm which makes a world of difference. The showers are clean and the water is nice and hot. The only thing that irritates me is something called security station hours where you have to walk in the front of the dorm and check in. It is annoying but they are only looking out for your safety.

    Academic Rigor

While I feel challenged in some classes others feel too easy.

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is of a nice size. It is one of the best schools in the state for Nursing. I enjoy being here in Oshkosh a lot.

They will not question you on what you have been doing if you are not willing to say and they are all really nice people. We also have emergency towers where you can press the button for a quick response for help. Along with all those safety feature we also have a police department on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

So much to choose from! Anything you can think of we just possibly have a club for you!

Great for these types of students

    Anyone!

    Bang for the buck

All colleges are expensive but Oshkosh offers so many amenities, such as free counseling, free sports admission, free rec. center, larger then normal dorm, and it's so much fun,

    What to do for fun

There is a lot of fun activities you can do on campus. Some of my favorite things to do are go to open mic night where there is live music in the cafe, there is Titan Underground which is a comfy lounge you can order a snack in and play pool, there is also a pool with diving boards and open swimming everyday, comedians and celebrities that come once and a while and so much more!

    Food and Dining

Black Hawk gets really old after the first week of eating there for every meal, just like everyone campus, it's no come cooked meal we are used to! There are some healthy options and all and all the food is really good, i cant really complain much!

    Dorm Life

The freshmen dorms are so fun! If you are an incoming freshmen and can't decide where you want to stay, you best bet is always the ALL freshmen dorms. It's an easy way to meet people who are in the same boat as you are.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that UWO is not known for their hard classes. If you really want to know who the best/easiest teachers are on campus look on ratemyprofessor.com, it really does make a difference how hard a class is depending on a professor.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to the prospective student, don't pack so much junk when you're moving in! Never wait until the day before to start studying for an exam, rule of thumb, study one week before the exam, you need to see something seven times before it is in your long term memory. Lastly, don't be afraid to talk to your professors, they want you to succeed but they are not going to put in the effort if you don't either.

    In three sentences

I really like the sense of community here at UWO. The big school doesn't seem so large and intimidating as one would think because everyone is so nice here! The thing I love most is that the campus is very close together so on those rainy days it's not farther than a five minute walk.

    Campus Safety

I always feel very safe on campus as Oshkosh is a pretty small town and the campus is located in a very nice part of town. There are also safety measures put into place to provide you with safety 24/7. If you ever feel unsafe walking at night you can press a blue button located all across campus and a campus safety officer will walk with you to whatever location you need to get to, any time of day. You can also sign up to get alerts on your phone if there is going to be dangerous weather, so you have a heads up on potentially dangerous conditions.

    Greek Life

There are five different sororities and five fraternities at UW Oshkosh. They seem to have a lot of fun and are involved in a lot of campus activities such as homecoming, blood drives, and other events. They're easy to join and always up to recruiting new members. Plus, they provide an excellent way to meet new people and make great friendships.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 200 clubs to join at Oshkosh giving it great diversity. Like I said before with so many choices there truly is a club for everyone. Plus if you have an idea of your own for a club all you have to do is get a group of people together and get your club approved and you can start your own club on pretty much whatever you want.

Great for these types of students

UW Oshkosh is really great for any kind of student. Whether you like to study a lot or you're more of a social butterfly you can fit in here. There are a wide variety of people here and a great diversity in different interests from zombie club to volunteering clubs.

    Bang for the buck

You get a pretty good value for what you're getting. The dorms may be a bit overpriced for such a small room, but living on campus is very convenient. All of the residence halls are very close to all of the academic buildings and it's easy to participate in events later in the evenings because you can just walk over. The food is pretty well worth the cost as you don't have to prepare any of your own food and it covers the entire semester. The tuition is definitely worth the cost as the classes are great and the professors are very accommodating. Overall, I'd say that you get a pretty good experience for what you are paying for.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of fun things to do on campus. There are several clubs to join and participate in. There are also lots of activities in Reeve Union including games, concerts, open mic nights, packer games on the big screen, new movie screenings, dances, speakers, magic shows, comedians, sporting events, and much much more. There's also a lot available in the city of Oshkosh including the outlet mall, movie theater, many different restaurants, museums, and much more.

    Food and Dining

The food here is okay depending on what you get. They definitely have a lot of choices for students to pick with two main places to eat, a place to get food to go, a restaurant in one of the dorms, a coffee shop, small convenience stores/places to get food in each of the academic buildings, and a convenience store with more food and other products like toothpaste, cleaning products, and more. With so many places to choose from you are able to get a variety of foods, which really helps especially at the end of the semester. The only problem I have with the dining facilities are how early they close. Most are only open until 7:00 pm each night except for the dining place inside of the residence building.

    Dorm Life

In my experience dorm life has been what I've expected. The rooms are small, but you can rearrange your room however you would like which gives you new perspectives and a nice change up mid-semester. The dorms are included with dressers, closets, microwave, fridge, shelves, and a mirror. This is especially nice so you don't have to worry about purchasing these things before moving in. The hall community is also very nice. I haven't had any problems with anyone in my hall and everyone seems very friendly. The CA's are also very open and friendly and will help you with any problem you may have. The one downside is sharing a community bathroom, but you get used to it. The bathrooms are always clean as janitors clean them every morning and surprisingly aren't too crowded in the mornings.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the class and the professor, the material can be very challenging to relatively easy. Some professors test on small details from the textbooks while others test on the main ideas and concepts of the chapter. Overall, take studying seriously and you'll get used to which classes need more studying and which don't require as much time.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to have to study for exams because they make up almost all if not all of your overall grade. Also, be open to getting involved in as many activities and clubs as possible because they're great ways to meet new people, look great on resumes, and are super fun!

    In three sentences

Overall, I would say this school gives you an overall typical college experience. The classes are big without being too overwhelming and the professors are great and are very willing to meet with students. The dorm life is also very typical with small, cozy rooms with many options for dining and welcoming hall programs to welcome you into the residence halls.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety here is top notch. We have what are called safe walks which is having the ability to have someone walk you home no matter where you are on campus. We also have an excellently lit campus. At night at the dorms there is always a security station to make sure only residents are entering the dorms.

    Greek Life

I am not involved with the Greek life on campus however I do have some friends that are and they say that it is one of the best decisions they made. Being involved with a sorority or fraternity has opened them up to so many new opportunities and they have met to many friends with similar interests.

    Clubs and Activities

As I stated before, there are an endless number of clubs. There is truly something or everyone here. The clubs and activities are just another great way to get involved on campus and make the most of your college experience.

Great for these types of students

UW Oshkosh is a great place for ANY student! Any student looking to have a great future and a great college experience will fit in perfectly at UW Oshkosh!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Titan Underground is a great place to go on weekends. This is a place where students can demonstrate their talents and express themselves as well as just hanging out. Here they have great food, music, karaoke, poetry reads and much more.

    Bang for the buck

UW Oshkosh provides excellent services! There are resources for students to use around every corner as well as professional staff to answer an question you may have. The clubs and sports at UWO are endless! If you don't want to be in a dedicated sport then you can always join an intramural team. The sport teams are also endless. They have a sport for almost any skill type and almost any activity you can think of. I personally enjoy racquetball here at UWO. If you aren't into sports than join on of the clubs. They have a club for any personality type and any interest. These groups are always more than happy to accept new members into their group.

    Food and Dining

The food here is excellent and the options are endless. There are many locations on campus where you have food options. Many of them correspond directly with your meal plan. There are options available for any type of eating habits as well.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life here is great. You have a variety of great dorms to choose from when you apply. Some halls are gender specific whereas others are co-ed. There are always fun events happening in the dorms and coming in as a freshman the CA's do a lot to try to get you introduced to other freshman. All rules and regulations are made very clear and it provides for an enjoyable stay. In your dorm you get a desk, chair, closet, mirror, dresser, fridge, bed frame, and microwave. Also, in the basement there is a kitchen, a television, study areas, and laundry room. The front desk also provides an array of objects such as sporting equipment to kitchen wares. The dorms are a great place at UW Oshkosh.

    Academic Rigor

I feel as thought the professor here are wonderful. In every class you will be taught by the actual professor versus a teachers aid unlike many universities. Every professor is going to be different no matter where you go but so far at UW Oshkosh I have had all wonderful professors. This is college so it is not something that is going to be easy by any means, however I do feel as though UW Oshkosh provides all there students with the proper tools to be successful. I have learned so much in just my first semester of college. The classes are full of information and the campus is full of resources.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should learn to pace themselves and keep up with their classes so that they do not fall behind. It's very important to find out right away what is expected from you from each class and each professor so that you will be always prepared. Take college here seriously because your future is dependant upon it. Lastly, be sure to get yourself involved because it is this overall that will open you up and introduce you to a wide range of opportunities.

    In three sentences

This University is perfects for students who want to experience a small campus with a generous population. There are many services offered here and all the tools that you need to become successful. There are an endless amount of clubs and activities that you can become involved with.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is not bad and very similar to all of the other Wisconsin Universities!

    What to do for fun

Athletics are big for fun on campus. Women's volleyball, basketball, and baseball are a few of the games I go to. Hanging around campus can be fun, however, I do wish there was more to do on the weekends, such as bowling, movies, etc. The weekends do get long and the city attractions such as restaurants and shopping are great but far away from campus and the buses only run until 6:00 p.m.

    Food and Dining

The food took some getting used to! I love the Union food but not the commons' food. I bring food from home and do utilize my microwave quite often.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life definitely takes getting used to. The bathrooms are typically clean and very safe. The noise is something to get used to however, quiet hours are strictly enforced especially during exams! Get out there and meet people...it takes time but participate in all of the activities if possible.

    Academic Rigor

The classes were much harder than I expected, therefore keep your class load light for the first semester and get used to your surroundings, the new people, and living on your own. Keep in contact with your counselor...they are there to help!

    Tips for prospective students

Participate in all of the beginning of the year activities as they help you to become more familiar with the campus and comfortable with your surroundings. Take smaller classes in your first semester and do not load up on the harder classes as it does take some time getting used to living on your own and meeting new people!

    In three sentences

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is a small campus with a big school feel. It offers many opportunities to get acquainted with the campus and new students. I am able to find my way around campus due to the great preparation as a freshman.

The campus have different events that goes on almost everyday. There have been many comedians, illusionists, and mentalists that have visited the university. There are also different speakers that come as well.

    Food and Dining

During your first few weeks you are going to think that there are so many different varieties to choose from, so don't gain the freshman 15! Don't worry there is a gym you can workout at, that is free! There are different things to choose from such as burgers, pizza, pasta, and they even have meals that are different everyday such as chicken, steak, and casserole. There are also Starbucks available on campus if you just want a coffee or a bagel or both.

    Dorm Life

Since this is the end of my first year of college, the dorm I lived in was okay. There are three dorm halls that are for freshman only. I would say be wise if you plan to buy a loft because the you cannot control the heat in your room and the heat goes straight to the ceiling. Also, in my dorm hall, the janitor only half cleaned the restrooms so I would also advice to wear flip flops when you shower.

    Academic Rigor

The professors here want nothing more than to see their students succeed in school. If you are having a problem with your homework or not fully grasping the material you can email for a tutor, which is free, or you can talk to your professor during their office hours. From experience, the professors are not as mean as they may come off during lecture, most of them are more than willing to help you with anything. They may even give you extra points during an exam or quiz if they see that you are really trying your best in their class.

    In three sentences

I would rate this school on a scale from 1-10 a 7 when it comes to education. The social life I would rate a 5 only because most of the students are from small towns and most of the people are already settled into their own social groups. There isn't that much diversity here, it is mainly white. Me, being an African American, I definitely had a culture shock, but there are groups such as the Black Student Union and Sisterhood that gathers all of the African American students together.

For fun, we have a Titan Underground where free movies are shown on Titan Nights, a mini cinema that show latest movies for really low prices, and various clubs and organizations. We also have bands coming to play on campus, comedians every month, and karaoke nights twice a week! If you are the quiet kind who likes to roll solo, there are student lounges in almost all of the buildings on campus.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining options are quite limited, to be honest, but this isn't peculiar to only UW-o. However, there are options for every kind of eater: the picky, the go-getter, the food lover, and the vegetarian. Food prices are also fairly low.

    Dorm Life

I cannot rate the dorm life because I am not an on-campus resident :(. I have friends who stay on campus though, and they rarely complain about dorm life. The only things they complain about are the sizes of the dorms and the no-party rules in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I will give my university a-star rating in academic rigor! The one star missing is because it isn't an Ivy League school. Needless to say, students here are very focused on their futures and academic careers, and professors do whatever they can to help us succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to check out the Students Recreation and Wellness Center. You will love it instantly! Also, check out the Student Success Center. Everything you need for a successful academic career is right there in that building!

    In three sentences

It has a very conducive atmosphere for studying, with a very supportive and caring faculty and equally supportive non-faculty staff. The students of UW-O are friendly and purpose-driven, so you know you are in safe hands when you attend university here. Finally, it has an incredibly impressive student campus life options, with great Greek life and other fantastic organizations.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean. I felt safe in the dorms and was like a very social apartment. You will get matched up with memorable people.

The courses can be difficult but once you figure out the professor and the message he/she is trying to pass unto you, you will enjoy your education.

    Tips for prospective students

Please do not be afraid to talk to your professor. 99% of the time they know more than you and want you to succeed. They are human too and do not want to read confusing papers. University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) is a wonderful example of a college town. The D-3 school is the heart of a town that hosts a verity incredible local and national events (EAA,CUSA, Farmers Market). The one mile campus has a homey feel with the new facelift on campus (donâ??t forget about the squirrels).

    Campus Safety

Sev. attempted/actual rapes or assaults a yr-seem to be on edge of campus so not sure if students or city people. Have safety officers avail for when out late at night & alarms around campus. I've walked out of buildings at 11 p.m. and felt safe-enough ppl still around.

    Greek Life

Sev frats and sororities-I belong to honor society.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of groups-something for everyone to join. Some meet sev times and some once a month. Good leadership opportunities & looks good on resume if on club boards.

Great for these types of students

School's known for business, nursing and teachers. Party going is from Wed-Sat, but too much and it is easy to flunk out! Most students seem to be on fin. aid, working pt time or just looking for a decent, reasonably inexpensive education. Many planning to go to grad school elsewhere (sm grad opportunities here)

    What to do for fun

Again, lots of activities on campus like movie nights, comedy and band nights, zombie and crafts stuff and lots of clubs to join. Off campus, movies, rest., shopping and lots of bars!

    Food and Dining

Mostly okay-dinners are mainly good but grill not good. There is a salad bar in Reeve Union and some Mi-Tazas have salads and wraps. Several good restaurants are close by however.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the class: some are fairly easy but you need to read the texts and some classes (usually upper) have heavy reading and project loads-sometimes too much for a 3 credit class.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to have college math skills, though they have tutors for that. Don't party all the time-some classes require lots of studying and prep work. Start off with good grades-easy to do with most gen-eds- and it will be easier to keep decent grade point avg. New civic service commitment now required-good way to get out in community & do something useful.

    In three sentences

Generally very good teachers-had one bad one in 3 yrs. Get on right path for your program early-I've had trouble graduating in a timely fashion because of the screwed up class schedule in Soc. dept. & class conflicts. Lots of campus activities and friendly classmates.

    Campus Safety

Campus is very safe. At night when entering a dorm building students are required to show I.D and if they have a guest they also must present some sort of I.D. The campus police station is right on campus and they offer a safe-walk service for students who call them at any time of the night to walk them to their building. Overall, Oshkosh is pretty safe.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities. If you want to join a religious club or a club that does activities that you enjoy, you can always find one. but if they don't have a club that you wanted, you could start one as long as you get it approved and have a certain amount of students as members.

    What to do for fun

There is lots to do in Oshkosh. You just have to pay attention to on-campus event dates and also the community offers many great fun activities. During the fall I went down town to participate in the farmer's market and bought lots of fresh food for my dorm and went to the chilli cook-off. On campus I attended events for their homecoming such the talent-show and comedian shows.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of dinning options. There is usually three main places where I get my food and all of them go with my meal plan and of course off to the side of campus there are small franchises such as subway, papa johns, many more.

    Dorm Life

Everyone may have a different experience in the dorm life but overall it is very pleasant. The bathrooms are community bathrooms but are cleaned everyday except weekends. All floors have a C.A that is trained and at night when entering the buildings I.Ds are checked to ensure safety. Rules such as no alcohol and quiet hours are placed though out the building to create a respectful atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

This school offers many academic options. They offer the major that I am going for and also have lots of other classes that I was able to take for fun. Overall lots to choose from.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for those who are looking into this school is to see if they offer the major or classes you want. Also if possible so visit the school. Being there is different than just reading about it. Also an important tip that many students over look is to look at tuition. The cost of school can be different at all schools so by checking tuition you can have an idea how much school will cost.

    In three sentences

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is a very warming environment to go to school. During the day, campus comes to life with students and professors going to class and hanging out with friends. At night study sessions are taking place and there are tons of hang-out places.

    Clubs and Activities

I play Womens club Volleyball for Oshkosh. It is a lot of fun and it allows me to play at the higher level.

    What to do for fun

For fun I go to the Rec and workout, or play volleyball. There are movies on campus and in the basement of the dorms they have pool tables and dart boards. Mainly I just get together with friends and play games and watch movies.

    Food and Dining

reeve salads are to die for!

    Dorm Life

You make great friends in the dorms. The wireless isn't the best, but you get used to it. Horizon is great and fun to have friends over for games and movies.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging and also doable. Most of the teachers are great and love their job.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure this university has any major or minor you are considering going for! I picked this school because it has a great social work and kinesiology program. Since I switched between these two I did not have to transfer.

    In three sentences

I love this university. I am from a small town so I was very nervous coming to Oshkosh. My first year I lived in the all freshmen dorms which I recommend. There are many major and minor options here and many teachers for each class. Make sure you check out Rate my professor .com before enrolling in a class.

    Food and Dining

You can get sick of Blackhawk food pretty quick if you aren't creative with your food. I suggest thinking outside of the box and visiting several different stations to make a complete meal.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make of it! The CAs (community advisors) often put in a great deal of work to host events and fun hang out times in the dorms, but for the most part, the best part about dorm life is getting to live right across the hall from your best friends every single day.

    Tips for prospective students

One of my high school teachers always told me, college is what you make of it! While I assume this is true for most colleges, it is especially true at Oshkosh! They have many jobs, workshops, clubs, organizations, recreational activities, fun events, and ways to plug in, you just have to be willing to grab a friend (or go solo) and try as much as you can, as soon as you can. Those who do not get involved right away often get caught up in the idea that UWO is boring and end up at the local bars. My advice to you? Jump into college with both feet as soon as you get there- first week of your freshman semester- like I did, and you'll soon feel at home.

    In three sentences

With a plethora of student organizations and on-campus opportunities, UWO has all the offerings of a large state university. They offer everything from cheap bus rides to Chicago, extensive study abroad trip options, affordable or free recreational rentals, fun and free events on campus at least 4 nights a week, on and off campus job fairs, free training and workshops for countless job search techniques, the list goes on and on! UWO has the amenities of a large university school with the feel and comforts of a small campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs and activities on campus but I have trouble finding out when meetings are so I don't like that part.

    Bang for the buck

This is a school that isn't as expensive since I am in state and it isn't a private school which is what I attended my first semester.

I love to exercise and play sports, I hang out with my friends when I am not doing homework. I

    Food and Dining

Campus food is extremely unhealthy so I am not a fan of it but lots of kids like it here.

    Dorm Life

I am not a fan of germs so it is a lot messier then living at home but I think it is worth it. Make sure you are your roommate talk about EVERYTHING! When I say everything I mean bedtime, who is allowed over and when, drugs, alcohol, and sex, and anything else that is relevant. My roommate and I didn't and we ended up not being roommates which is an added stressor in the middle of the semester.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are living on campus, which I highly recommend, you should make sure you are your roommate will get along. Take school and your classes seriously because there is no going back.

    In three sentences

I transferred to UWO at the semester this year and I absolutely love it. I love the idea of having study sessions each week for science classes that I am in. I really like how the campus is big, I went to a private school so this is perfect size now!

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is a big factor for UWO. They have Safe Walk for students who don't feel comfortable walking alone at night. They can simply call the campus police and they will meet them and walk them to their destination safely. However, if they do decide to walk alone and find themselves feeling uneasy they can press a safety button, which are located all around campus, and the campus police will be notified immediately and rush to their aid.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is amazing on campus!! Everyone is together and united with each other. Most universities have feuds between Sororities and Fraternities but UWO has a bonding experience about it. We all realize that for all of us to prosper, we have to support one another at fundraisers and other forms of outreach. That is why Greek Life brings LIFE to UW-Oshkosh.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities, I myself am part of 7 of them. In doing this, I found that each club I am apart of has a certain sense of unity and passion. And although each organization is different, they all can come together at any given time to support another club or huge campus wide event being held.

Great for these types of students

The huge supply of food is great for all types of students who do late night studying! They allow for a variety of different foods to help refuel you during an all night study session.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have a great chain of food restaurants right across the street from campus for everyone to go and eat. They also deliver late which is a big factor for college students and late night studying!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your money's worth at UWO. Some things could be better, but thats why they have student surveys to help distribute the money to different pats of the campus (parking, dorms, wifi, etc). Although opinions do vary, most students tend to agree on the big things they would like to change on campus.

    What to do for fun

UWO has events going on continuously throughout every week. What makes it great is that they send out a weekly Student Announcements email telling the student body what events are being held that week. It ranges from fun events to very insightful lectures from well known guest speakers, which makes it all the more difficult to choose!

    Food and Dining

The food at UWO is great compared to other schools! There's variety in the two major dining buildings and a few other places students can go to get other food when they feel like it. Overall, they provide many options and allow students to pick whichever they feel at the moment, but nothing beats a home cooked meal!

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is a great experience at Oshkosh. Of coarse we have our fair share of issues but for the most part living in the dorms is a great experience. Incoming freshmen will have the chance to be in the freshmen village, which is 3 connected residence halls where only freshmen live. This makes a great environment for relationships to be built among freshmen.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are very interested and passionate about any topic they lecture about. Some freshman classes even require students to go to a Multi-Cultural event for different perspectives on the topic in class. Overall, the passion the professors have rubs off on the students if they are open to it. Which results in a campus invoked in the different issues of the world.

    Tips for prospective students

For any incoming freshmen at UWO, I would basically say they should get ready for an adventure! Oshkosh has so many events from so many different cultural backgrounds, that to be able to stick to one specific area, is impossible. Students should either be prepared to make friends because they are an extravert, or be approached because they are an introvert!

    In three sentences

UWO is not very diverse, but open to new perspectives and people of all different backgrounds. They try to explore different major issues in society through events and activities. Mainly, they try to keep every one involved by providing activities of all sorts.
