Great for these types of students

This is a great school, for those students who FEEL unconventional... No matter your work schedule, or how (un)flexible you might be, this school is willing to work for you! There are a VARIETY of degrees available, in fact I would be seriously surprised if you didn't find what you're looking for! It's also a nice environment for LDS students or anyone interested in learning about religions. There's an institute of religion on campus, and the school is very open-minded about what goes on in the community!

    Tips for prospective students

I say get in contact with the department you're interested in as soon as possible! Tell them a little about yourself, and what you're looking for in an education, the department counselors are EXTREMELY helpful and willing to work with you on a graduation schedule. And even if you're unsure of what you want to major in, or if you decide to CHANGE your major halfway through, there's no hassle, and they COMPLETELY understand!

    Bang for the buck

First of all, this HAS to be one of the least expensive schools in the US! My tuition is usually around $2500 a semester, but that's for 19 credit hours... For 9, it's more like $1200. But think of it this way: Not only are you paying for an instructor, you're paying for a friend, and possibly a future reference/stepping stool into the career of your choice... It's not half bad.

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is... unique :) It's made mostly out of concrete, glass and colorful pipes. It's incredibly easy to get around, and there are always some activity going on! If you don't have a date for the weekend, you can always expect to have a a good array of fun, alternative options.

    Am learning a lot

I LOVE going to school here! The Professors are fantastic! Every class I have had thus far has been taught by highly respected individuals; everyone has at least one Master's and they have all had experience working in their field! The class room sizes are fairly small; the largest I've had contained 25 students. The Professors are easy to talk to and **Remember your name**!!

Great for these types of students

Athletes, Mormon religion and people that want a city type school with tons of things to do on the weekends.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you at least spend a weekend in Orem and take a look around campus. The area surrounding the school is great and make sure you get the input from students that are of the Mormon religion and not. And see what is right for you.

    Bang for the buck

The out-of-state tuition is somewhat reasonable for the education that I am receiving

    Am enjoying being here

The culture is somewhat different than what I imagined but I like the school and the people I meet.

    Am learning a lot

My teachers are very helpful with any questions I have on a subject and really make sure that I understand what I am learning.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for a clean atmosphere with lots of fun things to do on and off campus, without the alcohol and other substances. Students with busy schedules trying to fit classes in between the craziness of life. Parents going back to school. People looking to continue learning with or without pursuing a degree.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your advisors!!!! They'll help you figure out exactly what classes you should be taking and if you don't know what you want to study, they can help you look at all you different options and decide what classes to take to figure it out. They're very supportive and helpful. Also, take a little bit of everything. Enjoy the different class choices. Regardless of your major, take a dance class or a cooking class or a auto shop class. Try new things! College is a great chance to experience lots of different fields and learn about life. TAKE A PERSONAL FINANCE CLASS!!!

    Bang for the buck

I ended up having to take a year off to get Utah residency because out of state tuition was so expensive, but after starting school here, I can tell you it was way worth it. I'm a full-time student and my tuition ends up around 2400 after my class and lab fees. And it's worth every dollar. I am learning more than I am paying.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. It's really cold in the winter, but since I moved here to Orem, I have had so many wonderful experiences and opportunities that I wouldn't otherwise have had. There is so much going on all the time and because there are two universities within 15 minutes of eachother, there are lots of young adults to hang out with. :)

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much since I started school at UVU. Part of the reason is because the staff here is amazing! They welcome questions and are always ready to help you if you are having a hard time understanding anything. They're all very accessible and approachable. They also get to know each student individually and remember your names. I have a crazy schedule and miss a lot of school for illness, and I haven't yet had a teacher that hasn't been incredibly flexible and helpful to me.

Great for these types of students

It is a great school for any type of student. Whether it be someone just trying to get generals done or wanting to finish up their schooling. It will fit to you.

    Tips for prospective students

Go check out the school and meet with the counselors. There is no better way to find out if it is the school for you unless you get to know the school.

    Bang for the buck

This is definitely the a great school! You get more than what you pay for. If your living in Utah County this is a school that should be considered. The tuition is cheap and no matter where you live in Utah county it isn't that long of a drive if you wanted to live at home while attending.

    Will enjoy being here

Although the campus seems huge as a soon to be freshman, the learning possibilities are just as big. There are many fun activities and event to be apart of. There is also all the resources need to succeed, including the professors who are willing to help you and are as friendly as can be.

    Will learn a lot

I have many friends attending UVU and they have told me how much they love the school. They say it is a great learning environment. I have been able to go and sit in on a class one of my friends was in just to get a feel for it and what an experience it was! I was able to understand what was being taught and I wasn't even apart of the class. The professors teach in a way that most students would understand.

Great for these types of students

The cool thing is....any type of students would be good at Utah Valley University.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to do well in college you have to put 100% into the work. Don't procrastinate. There are always going to be fun things to do, always, so put your homework first. Talk to your teachers. You will hear it a lot but you have to put yourself out there. Keep a planner and write down all assignments from the syllubus. Always read all of the syllubus.

    Bang for the buck

College will always be expensive. But overall it was worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is different. Everyone is very chill. People know what they want and I really enjoyed spending time there. The library is quite and open. A great place to study. The only bad thing is location.

    Am learning a lot

I am going into Early Childhood Education and the program is amazing. I loved the teachers and what they taught. I have learned a lot. I only wish they had a bachelors.

Great for these types of students

Not only is the social life great, but also the learning is quality, and therefore if you want quality education along with a good time, this university is great for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Study at least 2 hours for every 1 credit hour you take, sit on the front row in class, answer the teacher's questions- even if your not sure if it is right, they like the input, and they will get to know you better (follow these steps and you should get a 4.0 :) ) and get involved! there is a lot of cool leadership opportunities and fun things to do always.

    Bang for the buck

The education you may receive is great for the average price for tuition etc.

    Am enjoying being here

There are lots of fun activities that the UVUSA (Utah valley University student association) plans, They are open to ideas from all students, and do a variety for all age groups and personalities. There is a lot of cool clubs and they have an adventure center that helps you find fun things to do all year long. I am one who doesn't always like to mess around, and i believe this is not just a party college but it has exceptional learning, and leadership opportunities. They also have a cool library.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the classes i took, i learned a lot from. I loved the teachers i had, and i believe they really wanted the best for their students. They found the most effective way of teaching and had so many ways to help students if they needed it. email, labs, personal attention etc. The education i received was excellent. Except in one elective class in which we did the exact same thing everyday, however this teacher was still willing to help her students, and was a great teacher.

Great for these types of students

Honestly, UVU has clubs for every type of person, from computer geniuses to dancers to xbox fans! If you are a social person and want a good education, I'd say UVU is the place for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, UVU is one of the fastest growing universities in Utah! This means you will be exposed to numerous amounts of people and always have someone to do something with! I highly recommend coming to Utah Valley University, it's cheap, fun, and has a lot of programs, along with professors who actually care about how much their students learn!

    Bang for the buck

Most universities cost above $4,000 a semester, UVU is only around $2,000 a semester, and there are a bunch of cheap on campus restaurants and activities for FREE!! Just the simple fact that I will be attending a university that has multiple masters degree programs for as little money possible is amazing!

    Will enjoy being here

Even just the few people that I have met who attend this university were so unbelievably nice and welcoming, everyone has nothing but good things to say about this school and it makes me that much more excited to start attending in the fall!

    Will learn a lot

Just by going on a tour and seeing one classroom I know that I will be learning a lot, it is a teach based school, not research based, so the professors are focused on their students. The classrooms are small which means professors will actually get to know and help their students learn more!

Anyone with a desire to learn! I think UVU is especially great for people who want to turn their lives around after goofing off in high school. Since its open enrollment they don't take into consideration your HS transcript.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't wait until too late to register for classes! Register early and you can get a phenomenal schedule!

Great for these types of students

    Everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

New students don't fall into the trap of starting your day at 10 am. Parking is a nightmare as of 9 am so if you can, try to start your day around 7.

    Bang for the buck

It's pretty pricey but you're able to say you're graduating from a University instead of a trade school or an online program, which seems to be more impressive.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the small consolidated campus. Places like BYU or the U that have buildings miles apart are just not for me. UVU is all one giant building which I love. The people are nice and friendly, it's a great environment.

    Am learning a lot

Like most schools you can learn as much or as little as you want to. I'm happy that for as much money as I spend on tuition I'm taking away alot of new knowledge.

    Campus Safety

i always feel safe on campus. there is good lighting and maps everywhere, so even if you get lost there is a map handy. also they have emergency phones for extra safety.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs everywhere! there are so many, i don't know if i can count them all.

Great for these types of students

hard workers and people who get engaged with their school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

true wolverine. you can become a true wolverine by coming to true wolverine and kissing someone at the fountain at midnight.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

supporting student athletes by going to games. there are dances and different clubs that you can join. there are seriously a good amount of clubs. there is something for everyone. we also have lots of guest speakers and famous guests. ( i.e. bill nye, jason alexander, and jon schmidt)

    Food and Dining

the food at uvu is exceptional. i especially recommend the courtside grill. the sandwiches are good for the belly and the wallet.

    Dorm Life

the housing supported by the school is great! there are lots of people to meet and everyone is very friendly. they also have activities for the people who live there and they are always fun.

    Academic Rigor

this is a good place for anyone who wants to learn and make something of themselves.

    Tips for prospective students

apply early and don't waste time. this is one of the best schools in utah. get involved with the school, outside your academics, and watch as your life is filled with meaningful activities! have lots of school spirit and you will love it even more.

    Campus Safety

Pretty safe environment. They have EMT (I think they have a different, special name on campus) on standby all through out the day. People are nice; it's just a safe feeling environment.

    Greek Life

They have both sororities and fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

They offer a huge variety of clubs. Lots can be helpful for future careers, and others are just for fun. At the beginning of every semester, the clubs set up in the Hall of Flags and you can check out a lot of the available clubs.

Great for these types of students

UVU is great for those students who need more one-on-one time with the professor. Class sizes are smaller, so it allows for the professor to have more personal time and get to know their students better. It's also a smaller campus (although it's continually growing!), so it's great for all students to be able to get to their classes efficiently. ALSO, the library is amazing!!!! Great place to study, lots of study areas, and they have an amazing variety of supplementary materials. The building is gorgeous and has some really awesome views from the top floors, and is one of the most energy efficient buildings in the state!

    Bang for the buck

UVU is one of the cheapest colleges, but has a lot of the best programs, like the Dentist and Nursing programs, and even the Education programs, are best in the state.

    What to do for fun

I've found it hard to balance work, school, friends, and fun, but usually apartments have organized activities you can go to, and usually there's some party going on somewhere in the apartment complex. :) There are lots of movie theaters, and there's lots of room for creativity. :)

    Food and Dining

There might be some traveling involved when it comes to having good food, but it's not bad. UVU even has a fairly decent dining area inside, although it can end up being expensive, so sometimes it's best to just bring food.

    Dorm Life

OF course, it always depends on where you're living, but dorm life is fun, and it's easy to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

You can learn a lot, especially once you get into your intended major.

    Tips for prospective students

It's always helpful to check out your professors on ratemyprofessors.com, because despite UVU having a lot of caring professors, sometimes you can get a difficult teacher. Be sure you check with your counselor a lot, because they will help you reach your goals in a timely manner!!!

    In three sentences

Utah Valley University is a great student friendly school in which the teachers truly care about their students' success. Everything is connected indoors so you don't have to walk outside in the winter! Classes are smaller so that you get more one-on-one time with the teacher; it's one to 30 instead of one to 130.

    Campus Safety

I always felt extremely safe at UVU. Never once did I doubt my security.

    Clubs and Activities

TONS of clubs and activities to get involved in. They have recruiting in the Hall of Flags at the beginning of each semester, and it gives new students and current students the chance to mingle with each other and find where they belong.

    Bang for the buck

I loved UVU, and my prerequisite for any new school I attend is that it has to be compared to my experiences at UVU. I loved the sense of community it brought, the friendships I made, and the education I received. What more could be worth your time and money?

    What to do for fun

There are SOO many fun things to do in this area. As I mentioned before, there are over 50,000 students all in the same situation, and all looking to have some fun outside of studying. Every night of the week you will be able to find something to do, ranging from block parties (a whole block is shut down and massive amounts of people are dancing together), house parties, hiking, swimming, watching sporting events, university events/dances, clubs, amazing restaurants, camping, golfing, boating on Utah Lake, and many other awesome activities!

    Food and Dining

Orem, and neighbor Provo, have every type of food imaginable. I had some visitors come and spend some time with me there and they were in love with all of the cute quaint restaurant that these cities have all through out. They also have chain restaurants that we all know and love.

    Dorm Life

UVU doesn't have any on-campus housing, BUT it is in a city that has over 50,000 students living within a 15 mile radius. There are TONS of awesome apartments and condos in the Orem and Provo area that have fantastic social scenes.

    Academic Rigor

I loved UVU because the professors are there for your success. Even though this school is growing to be one of the largest in the state, the professors still care about your individual success. I was in the sciences for most of my time at UVU, and the courses I took were some of the hardest classes I have yet to face, but because they were hard, and a lot was expected of me, I was able to actually learn and retain the knowledge that was given me, even now!

    Tips for prospective students

While attending school, it is a given, you must STUDY! I spent most of my days in the library studying, which was great because it is brand new! It even has the new carpet smell. There are many places on campus other than the library that offer perfect arrangements for study. I loved that I could walk down a hall and see so many others in my same position, studying as hard as possible to become a success story. For any prospective students, I would utilize all of the places there are to study. Some of my favorite places are as follows: the Losee Center, the Library, the Computer Science Building, the Hall of Flags, and the LA Hall. Not only can you study in these places, but you can also people watch, and who doesn't love that?!

    In three sentences

Utah Valley University has given me the confidence I needed in myself to stand out amongst the thousands of students around me. I moved from Utah just recently to go to school on the East Coast, and with the education that I received from UVU, I have surpassed my peers in all areas of academics. They gave me the tools necessary to expand my mind, and believe that I can accomplish any task, whether it be a short homework assignment, or a final on the anatomy of a human body. With this education, I have no doubts of the successes I will see in my future!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class, take good notes and be involved. It is as easy or hard as you make it. If you don't go to class then you will miss out on a lot of stuff and it will be hard to catch up. But if you go and take good notes then you should be good.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is not that bad and they also have payment options so that has been very helpful.

    Am enjoying being here

All the events are really fun and the school in general is a great environment for learning.

    Am learning a lot

Think is a great school and the professors really know the material they are teaching, so that's really helpful. There are also resources the students have for extra help to learn the material they may be having difficulties with.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a close-to-home environment would love UVU. It is great for those who need to figure out what to do for their majors and career. Also, it is a great place for LDS students.

    Tips for prospective students

Utah Valley is a great school for your first year. There is a high variety of courses and a lot of opportunity for achievement. The counselors are great with working with students. They are always there to help you in figuring how out how to be successful.

    Bang for the buck

Academically and socially, Utah Valley University is much too expensive. Each year, it grows more expense. It is comparable to a larger version of a high school. Many professors are not as well qualified as expected from a college.

    Am enjoying being here

Utah Valley is a great school and they try to provide many activities for student involvement. It is a great school to start out at and transition from high school to college. Socially; however, meeting people can be difficult. There are many cliques already established among the students.

    Am learning a lot

The learning level at this school oftentimes depends on what you are studying. Courses in a specific major will have much greater of an impact than general education courses. Most of the general education courses are particularly easy. Many of the teachers are not very good at how they teach, but there is a good amount who do.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk with your teachers if you aren't getting anything they are saying, they are more than willing to sit with you and explain anything. Also go to all the labs (Math, Writing, and Science) they are so beneficial if you struggle in those areas.

I have looked around at the tuition for other colleges and was astounded by how much they were, and looking at Utah Valley University it didn't seem so scary.

Great for these types of students

Anyone can take advantage of starting college early. And UVU has a wonderful way of doing this by using Concurrent Enrollment. Every student in any major can do this. What is so wonderful is most the the Concurrent Enrollment classes are courses that are needed to be taken in generals for college. Get on it students and start early!

    Tips for prospective students

My first tip is to know what you want to do before you enroll in any classes. School can be expensive and if you are not needing to take a course, why spend all that extra money on it? Second, make your schedule reasonable. Don't ever over-load yourself. I would suggest taking 2 (3 at the most) harder classes. Third, do not procrastinate in your studying. You will find that school and life will be much happier and full of light.

    Bang for the buck

As I mentioned, I did Concurrent Enrollment. I seriously would advise every high school student to take advantage of this opportunity. There is only a small fee to take college courses in high school. For example, In high school you would pay about $120 for 4 college courses, whereas in college, you will pay around $2,500 (books included). That is such a big difference! I really did get all my money's worth of schooling when I did Concurrent Enrollment.

    Am enjoying being here

I personally haven't been on campus yet. I am just about to go this upcoming monday. But my older sisters have both been to UVU and they love being a student there. I am really excited to be a part of UVU.

    Am learning a lot

I started early with UVU. I did Concurrent Enrollment. This gave me the opportunity to get high school credits while I was in high school. I loved this for two reasons. One, I was saving a lot of money because I was taking the course in high school. Two, I was saving time for later in my life. That is the beauty, I was doing two things at one time...credits for high school and credits for college.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of fun centers throughout Utah County. One place I love to go is Provo Beach Center because there are great activities for not only families but college students as well. They have bowling, pool, rock climbing, a wave that you can ride, etc. There are other places like that throughout Utah County and not far away from Utah County such as Boondocks and swim parks such as 7 Peaks, Scera, etc. There is also bars in Utah County for those who like to party such as The Madison and clubs all throughout Salt Lake City.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of local restraunts that give great student discounts which is bettween 10-15% off regular price. There is also a Wolverine Card that you can purchase that gives many more discounts which is only $15.

    Dorm Life

I've never lived in the dorms myself because I'm married and live in an apartment with my family. But from what my sister's boyfriend says they are very nice and decent prices.

    Academic Rigor

All of the Departments I have been in so far have all been amazing and want nothing but for their students to succeed. All of my professors have offered one on one help if ever needed and make sure I understand everything. I have been in the Theatre Department, Computer Science/Digital Media Department, along with an English class that was amazing.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are getting into web design a great class to take is Web Essentials with Stuart Heimendal. He has not only taught me a lot but was one of the funnest classes I've taken. If you are getting into costuming through the theater department I recommend taking Costume Construction/Costume Design from Carla Summers because she has over 30 years experience in costuming but she doesn't flash all of her accomplishments to everyone and also sincerely wants every student to understand everything in her class. If you choose Utah Valley don't be afraid to be yourself and learn so much from not only teachers but also other students who will become your friends.

    In three sentences

This is a great school with so many different degrees available. They have great professors to help you one on one if needed. It feels more like a home then a school because of the people, professors, and staff.

    Campus Safety

I feel that this is a very safe campus and almost never feel unsafe. I feel at I could walk anywhere by my self and be totally fine, not to mention that everything is super close and it only takes 15 minutes to walk all the way across campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of different clubs and you can make almost any club that you want if you have at least five other people that are willing to be a part of your club. The first year that you have the club, you also get $200 to help start you off, but you have to manage your club and keep things updated, otherwise it will be dropped.

Great for these types of students

UVU is great for students who want a very good education at a low price and who are looking for an applied and engaged experience. There is a lot of competition, and not a lot of parking, so those who are willing to ride public transit will be more likely to get to class on time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Like Utah State University, UVU has a true wolverine tradition at the beginning of every semester. You have to kiss someone who has become a true wolvine and there was a product created just for this called kisstix, which is a pair of flavored Chapstick in which the flavor is intensified when combined with the other flavor.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very well priced university and it is amazing what you get for your money. The only downside is the cost of books, but that cost is present in any university.

    What to do for fun

Because it is close to the Brigham Young University campus, there are a lot of activities going in the neighboring city of Provo. There is also a lot of campus life activities that can be taken advantage of if you know where to look.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of good places on and close to campus. The are also a lot of places just a bus ride away from the school.

    Dorm Life

There actually isn't on campus housing, but there are a couple of apartment buildings that are close to the school. I actually haven't lived anywhere clo to campus, so I don't know much others than that.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is very good in some places, and not so good in other places. It depends a lot on your teacher and your major. A very good amount of the teachers have great experience and can communicate and teach that experience to their students. However some teachers are by educated in their fields, but don't know how to teach it to their students. I would highly recomend talking to students to find out who the good teachers are.

    Tips for prospective students

Meet with your advisor right when you start your studies and make rue that you stay on track. Otherwise, you may end up staying a lot long than planned because some classes are only offered every couple of years. Your advisors can be a great help to you if you take advantage of them. Don't think that you can do it all by yourself because you will end up leaving something important out. Also, sign up for classes as early as possible so you can get into the classes that you want, because they fill up quickly.

    In three sentences

This university is a great place to gain an applied education. In the four years that I have attended, I have had many opportunities in a lot of different areas of my education field. I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a great education at a very good price.

Great for these types of students

People who do NOT want to go to BYU but who want a great experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It's been said that UVU is like BYU without the dress code, yes there are a lot of LDS people, but they do NOT want to get married haha.

    What to do for fun

Participate in activities, honestly they have sooo many, and everyone wants you to be a part of their group.

    Food and Dining

They have a GREAT foood court with delicious and cheap meals, as well as subway.

    Dorm Life

    I wouldn't know.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are more difficult than others, as always it depends on the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

It is expanding, and they are becoming understaffed, but we'll see how it plays out next year.

    In three sentences

It has a small school feeling because all of the professors really try to get to know you. They always have the classes I need at times I need, and it's a great education for how much you pay.

The UVU Police do a great job at keeping the campus a safe place for students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

With the main campus you can get through almost every building without going outside once! There are only about 2 buildings that aren't connected to the others. This makes it really nice when it's raining or snowing.

    Bang for the buck

UVU is open enrollment, but it is still just as expensive as any other university.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of food courts in the student center, but I have never eaten here because I have a lot of food alergies.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorms, but I've spoken with a lot of students and they have really enjoyed it.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of the classes are really great. I would suggest that Music Majors don't seriously look at this school. The music program isn't very good. Beware! The Biology 1010 class is the most flunked class at the school. Taking lab is optional, but I highly recommend that you take this at the same time. It will help significantly.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you're attending classes. There are a lot of really great professors, but they aren't going to work with you if you're not going to put extra effort for you.

    In three sentences

Overall this school is a great one. It is still open enrollment, and a lot of non-traditional students come here. This is a beautiful and enjoyable campus.

UVU doesn't have dorms so I don't know if this really counts... But most of the people I've met at UVU were all really nice people with great personalities and friendly smiles.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on what class you're taking and who you are. Some classes I found to be extremely difficult were quite easy to some of my friends and vice versa. As long as you pay attention and do your best it's pretty easy to stay on top of things.

    In three sentences

UVU is a great place to relax, learn, meet new people, have fun, and avoid the dreaded holy war. The grounds are clean and well kept, the students are friendly, and the staff knows what they are doing. It's a great place with a great atmosphere - what more could you ask for?

    Dorm Life

I lived at home, I don't even know if there are dorms. But as I said before UVU is a commuter school so...

    Academic Rigor

Most classes were pretty easy. The only really difficult class was physical science 1000 and it was mainly because the professor was really old and confusing.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have a hard time making friends don't attend UVU because it's a commuter school so there it's a lot harder to get to know people with everyone going home every day.

    In three sentences

UVU is a decent college, some of the teachers are better then others. A lot of the classes I took were boring but that might be because they were general education classes.

Most students that attend UVU are affiliated with The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Probably the most Christian like students you will ever meet.

Great for these types of students

UVU is great for students who may be struggling on what they want to major in or who are looking to find purpose in life. If you are married or are planning on working full-time during your educational experience then this school is fit for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Located on campus is a institute building for those who are looking to become more spiritual. Inside the institute building are teachers who help students study scriptures and become more spiritual.

    Bang for the buck

If you are a resident of Utah, tuition runs around 2,500, which is great considering all the different degrees that are offered.

    What to do for fun

With the mountains nearby you will always find a group that is going hiking on the weekends. Many students attending university's in Utah are very creative with activities because there are so many parks and canyons to visit. If you are looking for the thrill of party life with drugs and alcohol you will have a little more trouble here.

    Food and Dining

There are basically 3 different restaurants that you can choose from inside UVU. You have pizza hut, costa vida, and subway. You will see food stands set up within campus that offer my personal favorite, sushi. If you are looking for bagels and donuts or pretty much anything, you will find it hidden withing campus.

    Dorm Life

I personally do not live in the dorms but I know students who do. If you are looking for a party you can find one, and if you want to sit back and enjoy the show and be less involved you can as well. Dorms are cheap and the average rent paid for a student runs around three-hundred dollars.

    Academic Rigor

My biology class was pretty rigorous because it is considered a technical class but that does not mean that every class is that way. We had 3 exams and a final that was very comprehensive. The average in the class was a 76 which is considered a C+.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending make sure that you apply for residency if you are out of state because out of state tuition is about 6,800 a semester. Even though professors tend to be very laid back on tests and quizzes do not slack off and get in a habit of procrastinating reading assignments. Campus is very easy to manage and get around so I would recommend getting a map and memorizing where certain buildings are located and you will have mastered campus and feel more comfortable.

    In three sentences

This University is overwhelmingly laid back which is good for students who are trying to figure out what path they would like to head down. The School's teachers are understanding of students because most students attending this school work full-time and are not under scholarships. I love attending this school because it is preparing me to transfer to a school that has an Organizational Psychology PHD program!

    What to do for fun

I work and go to school, so I haven't had much opportunity to get out and have fun with any school classmates.

    Food and Dining

I've noticed the food court, but haven't eaten there yet.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Everyone I have asked for help has been incredibly supportive and helpful.

    In three sentences

My experience so far has been great, with all the faculty and staff being incredibly helpful. The teachers that I have had so far are all excellent and really know their subjects. Bang for the buck

I like the school. I made a good choice. I've had a lot of great opportunities here, like studying abroad in Haiti and getting involved with PRSSA and the newspaper.

    What to do for fun

They have an outdoor recreation store inside the student center and they are always doing cool things. I've seen river rafting and snowboarding trips always posted up. Within the area, there is Seven Peaks water park and Trafalga, which has go-karts and batting cages.

    Food and Dining

The food at UVU isn't bad, they have a few different offerings. Costa Vida, Subway, Pizza Hut, and a burger place. They have lots of little food stands throughout the campus too, that sell muffins, chips, and sandwiches for when you're heading to your next class.

    Dorm Life

If you can room with people you know, do it. I've had really bad roommate experiences, but mostly they've come from out of state. There are plenty of options for off-campus housing, but a lot of them are BYU-approved standards, so be advised and check them out thoroughly.

    Academic Rigor

The school is a university now so I feel like the academia is tougher, but that's what college is supposed to be - challenging. Most of the testing in the Fall and Spring are done in a testing center, a 5 minute walk from the Orem Campus. The lowest grade I've received so far is a C+ on any test.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are from out of state, it might be a bit of a culture shock, so be prepared when students ask you if you're married or who you're dating. I'm from Salt Lake City, about 30 minutes away, and I've never seen Utah County for what it is - a dating pool - until I moved to Orem. I would say just stay focused on school and your career and you'll be fine.

    In three sentences

They have a really great communication program for how relatively small it is. All of my professors within this department are very encouraging of my development as a writer. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with PRSSA and the student newspaper.

With BYU nearby in Provo, there is a wide variety of activities around town. Despite the usual movies, bowling, city-stuff... if you are in Utah, I highly recommend skiing and snowboarding during the winter, as well as boating or rafting during the summer; all available nearby!

Usually you are given all of your assignments for the semester with a deadline to complete them. If you are disciplined you are able to sometimes complete all work ahead of schedule. If you are prone to procrastination you will have a tougher time.

    Tips for prospective students

If applying for financial aid be very proactive so that things go smoothly. Do the fafsa and have the report sent to the school. Within the next couple of days call them and find out what else they need from you instead of waiting to hear from them. There are few forms to fill out so it's best to get everything done so that they can process your award faster. Always check your email for updates.

    In three sentences

Their online aviation degree program has been a god send. As a working single parent I never would have had the time to sit in a traditional classroom. While it has been hard work their flexible online degree program provided me the opportunity to earn a bachelors degree.

Campus police patrol the grounds as well as the streets. There are more cross walks with lights to prevent accidents on the street. There are fire drills and earthquake drills, and there are plenty of exits to evacuate students in a quick and fashionable manner.

Great for these types of students

Everyone. Doesn't matter your religion, race, or preference. UVU is an open University, and the culture center is the best one I have been to (I have visited northern colleges in utah, southern utah and none have impressed me, adapted to my needs - tutoring, nor made me feel at home like this one at UVU).

    Bang for the buck

Every Wednesday is Wolverine Wednesday and there are tons of things that go on. You can get a chance at spinning a wheel for free to win a variety of prizes - I got a 4G usb that usually costs 25 BUCKS! and a friend got a 25$ gift card for itunes. There are J-Dawgs sold there that cost 4 bucks but if you wear green you get a dollar off and it is not just the J-Dawg but chips and a DRINK! When you get to school you will want to go to UCCU (the bank), open up an account, and get a debit card that can also be used as your ID. When you get your debit card ask for the starving student card which is a long list of coupons at many places such as Fat Cats, Jumba Juice, Orange Julius, Trafalga, and many more places that offer you a ton of savings. Can you say CHA-CHING!

    What to do for fun

There are events occurring at least once a week whether it is a home game, a club activity, or weekly activities for students to relax. You will want to be in the halls early to watch and participate in club rush, relax at the student center to learn how to do yoga, eat a healthy breakfast on Wednesdays, draw on Fridays, and participate in tons of activities for students for a low cost if not free. There is a place to workout for free with you student ID card and accommodates for people who have a preference with free weights, machines, or just dancing on floor.

    Food and Dining

Great variety of choices, cafeteria upstairs where you can order a burger with a choice of fries, potato, or sweet potato fries, a weekly special, a new entree item each day, build your own salad and sandwich, soup, deserts, and tons of drink choices. Downstairs you have choices such as Costa Vida, Pizza Hut, Chinese food, sushi, Pasta, and burgers.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging yet you can still pass by studying, and doing your homework! Study 2 hours for each hour you spend in class! No JOKE!

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to read the details when you sign up for school. Get to school early to find a parking spot and a seat in class. Look up which texts you need and contact your teachers to verify you have the right text so that you can get a cheaper deal online or at another bookstore.

There are also plenty of events to get you out and mingling with other college students to maybe help you find that special someone you are looking for.

    Food and Dining

There are a variety of good food shops inside of UVU to tempt your pallet. Whats more, if you open a UCCU account you will have coupons and discounts to tons of places off campus as well. If you can't have a great dining experience here and close to campus you haven't tried.

    Dorm Life

    I live off Campus.

    Academic Rigor

Each course is fast paced and requires a great deal of outside, independent study time. The text books are interesting as well as the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Enjoy yourselves while here, but keep the proper balance of study and hard work. Do not forget the purpose of college and those who have sacrificed so much for to be here. Just as with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. If you slack off or just try to get a good grade without truly comprehending the material you will have missed out on the whole purpose of college.

    Clubs and Activities

There is constantly, and I mean constantly, something happening on campus. Whether it's the anime club doing their cosplay contest or the debate team preparing for a big competition, there's a club, activity, seminar, or workshop sure to appeal to just about anyone.

Great for these types of students

This college is right, smack-dab in the middle of Mormon country. If one has a problem with Mormons in general, this is probably not the place for them since there are quite a few of them here. Also, this is by no means a party college. Young adults seeking the college life more than an education would be advised to look elsewhere. This campus is for those seeking a great education in a welcoming environment conducive to that education where fun and games are still a high priority, just secondary.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Presently, campus is still in the process of being better integrated. The building design can be a little confusing, and many departments are broken up and spread around the campus, but (for better or for worse) there is constantly some amount of construction and redesign going on to make the campus a more intuitive place.

    Bang for the buck

Considering the energy of many of the professors and their passion for what they do, the vast amount of information and resources available to the students, and the abundance of reasonably-priced housing options nearby along with a diverse and multi-cultural approach to a vast number of issues around the country and globally which seeks constantly to include the every-day student, it is incredible that UVU's tuition and fees are as low as they are. This is a high-quality education, with an emphasis on using that education in a future career, in a globally-minded environment.

    What to do for fun

Another thing in the Student Center is an outdoor sports center and UVU clubs department. They're great resources for getting connected to people who share your interests and are already organizing activities to do. UVU is great in that it keeps up with a huge number of events in the area, so you never have to go looking for something to do. If you're on campus, information about almost everything available to you has already been collected there.

    Food and Dining

Again, UVU is a commuter campus. There are a variety of food vendors in the Student Center, but their ability to feed a large student body is limited. Students are, for the most part, expected to feed themselves in other ways.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus, so anyone seeking that kind of experience should look elsewhere. However, there are many off-campus housing solutions partnered with UVU. Some of them even provide a free shuttle to and from UVU in their contracts.

    Academic Rigor

Education is the centerpiece, but there are a variety of many other sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities to be involved in. The professors recognize this and many are willing to work with you to help you get the grade you need, if you're involved in these other things. They'll help you and, if you're very lucky, make exceptions for you, but they'll not cater to you. Your grade is still your responsibility.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research well ahead of time, as far as dates and times go. This college in partnered and involved with an enormous number of programs, so many of them appear on campus for only one day or even only a few hours, which means that windows of opportunity close fast. Plan ahead as much as possible to make sure you meet academic deadlines and get connected with the opportunities these programs can offer you.

    In three sentences

UVU is a competitively-priced college with an enormous number of resources at the students disposal and a very wide range of available courses. Students are included in a lively and wholesome environment where education is the centerpiece and the professors are enthusiastic about the topics they teach. Even though it is the largest student body in Utah, all housing being off-campus means that there're only so many students on campus at once, so the students are part of a large and diverse community but never feel overwhelmed by the crowding.

There is always someone around to help out, whether its a student, or on campus police. Previously I was a student in Nevada, and I feel much safer walking around on campus at UVU than I did in Nevada

UVU is great for any type of student. Students that are married with kids, single parents, high school graduates, grandparents.

    Bang for the buck

UVU is an open enrollment institution, so I think it is easy to get in, compared to other schools. Some students attend UVU fist to increase their GPA so that they can transfer to another institution. However, some who intend on doing that end up staying at UVU because of its atmosphere. People are very friendly, the campus has many service centers (day care, writing lab, math lab etc), and professors are always there wanting to help you succeed. Tution is not expensive and many scholarships and grants available.

Utah Valley is very close to a lot of things throughout the valley. There is tons of places to eat around the area. But after a while, probably just like any other place, it does get old.

    Dorm Life

UVU doesn't have dorms necessarily. There is lots of complexes within walking distance as UVU is close to pretty much everything. But the prices are ridiculous because it's a college town. I found it easier to live closer to provo and just drive the 5 minutes.

    Academic Rigor

Utah Valley has some great staff members. I haven't had a teacher personally who I had a legit problem with. Most professors are more than willing to help in whatever way they can. There are a lot of experienced professors who have a lot of knowledge to share from their experiences. UVU has a lot of majors to offer and great resources in each.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you dive in and learn about all there is to help you while at the University. Everyone I've ever gone to about financial aid, academic, choosing a major, etc. has been so encouraging and helpful in finding my way around college life. There is always a club, activity, sport, etc. to do and so many resources for you to use it would be silly not to take advantage.

    In three sentences

Utah Valley University is located in Orem. Orem has many restaraunts, arcades, and shopping centers. If that isn't enough for you, Provo is 10minutes south, and has a very lively, fun night life. Center street provo has dance clubs, restaurants and karaoke, live music, comedy clubs, and much more! The typical night on the town.

    Food and Dining

There are many restaurants surrounding the campus area, and several on campus. The cafeteria food is very good, and there is always a large variety of desserts, snacks, meals, and drinks. Great pricing.

    Dorm Life

There is only off-campus housing. There are many student living complexes around campu. You generally share an apartment with 5 others. The quality of your housing depends on the amount you are willing to spend, but all housing here is relatively nice, furnished, and under $350/month. Because the apartments are so close to campus, it is cheap and easy to comute to class. Public transportation is very available and UVU students may recieve a reduced-priced public transportation pass, enabling easy transport all the way up to Salt Lake City.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not very difficult if you keep up. Professors are relatively lax and understanding. But no class is too hard to pass with dedication and attentiveness.

    Tips for prospective students

Although the social and party atmosphere is very enthrawling, pay attention and GO TO CLASS!- especially in your upper division classes. Students often get lazy and unfocused and begin to think their classes are easy. They end up missing too many classes and fail by the end of the semester. It happens a lot here. Go to class, get good grades, and stay on top of your school work; like any practical college student. Anyone can succeed here.

    In three sentences

A very social atmosphere. Large campus with relatively laid back professors. Much opportunity for internships and involvement in study abroad programs.

It feels more like college rather than like high school all over again. The college staff are more knowledgeable than some other colleges. Advisers and teachers do try to help you succeed.

    Campus Safety

It is a very safe campus, and the campus police do their job really well, but just be warned, they will write you out a speeding ticket if you get caught. Other than that they pretty chill.

    Greek Life

There are some fraternities and sororities, but I don't know much about them.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs depending on what you are into, and if you want to create a new one that is okay too. I think the two I like the most are the pre med club and the MMA club, but there are a lot more. There are also some great dances. There is generally something going on on campus.

Great for these types of students

pretty much anybody that wants an education, and a decent social life. Put a little effort into both and you'll find them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There isn't a football team, but there is a good basketball team, women's volleyball and a lot of other sports. It is a pretty relaxed campus. There is the hall of flags where they put flags from wherever they have had international students, as well as the state flags. Just about all of the buildings on campus are connected. That way when it is cold in the winter, you don't have to walk through the snow and the wind. You can do it if you want to, but you don't have to.

    Bang for the buck

It is pretty affordable, and if you don't move back for the summer then you can get in-state tuition.

    What to do for fun

There aren't a lot of bars or clubs, there are some, but if that is what you are into go to Salt Lake City (45 min.). But there are plenty of bowling alleys and movie theaters, there are indoor quarries, restaurants, a nice water park, Lagoon Amusement Park is about an hour and a half away, there are skating rinks and plenty of mountains close by.

    Food and Dining

On campus dining is okay, they have a good food court, but if you know where to go there are some great restaurants in the Provo Orem area. Terra Mia in Orem, and Gloria's Little Italy in Provo, are my favorites.

    Dorm Life

There is a pretty good social life. I don't live at the dorms because I have family close by, but I have friends there, and they really like it.

    Academic Rigor

Utah Valley University, UVU, strives to give people a good education. While they believe that higher education should be available to all, they don't make it easier than any other university. Some people don't take that seriously and find out the hard way that you still have to study if you want to get good grades. Especially with the sciences. I am a pre-med student, so I have the opportunity to take some of the harder science classes, and getting a good grade is very possible as long as you put in the work. They also have a ton of free tutoring labs to help students do their homework and learn the materials.

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun and relax. They really do want you to succeed. They give campus tours with information about everything that is going on with the school. They are expanding the campus. Just use the resources available to help you succeed in your classes, and then have a fun social life.

    In three sentences

An overall great university. It is open enrollment, so anyone can get in, but that doesn't mean they give you a sub-standard education.

    What to do for fun

There is tons to do in Utah Valley not too far from campus. In the winter, there are all sorts of Ski resorts in the mountains, and in the summer tons of hiking, camping, and fishing. A couple hours south is Moab, where there is world famous mountain biking, and rafting available.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't the best. They have some good fast food places on campus, but the actual UVU food isn't too great.

    Academic Rigor

I would say it's about average. It really depends on your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Use the resources that are offered such as advisors. Get signed up for classes as soon as possible.

    In three sentences

UVU is a great school with relatively low tuition. The class sizes are small, and the teachers are very good. The campus is a very neat layout where everything is connected.

There are cameras everywhere, and lighting where you need it the most. I'm sure you'll be fine, everything is close here, and there will always be someone who would go with you.

    Clubs and Activities

There is seriously clubs for anything.

    What to do for fun

I joined a couple of fun clubs. It's always good to join clubs, to meet new people as well as make future connections. Some dorms have their own little fun events or activities that are way fun to be a part of. They also have games for many different sports to attend, all as well as fun.

    Food and Dining

Food is also affordable, they know paying for school and al the necessities you have. So they make the food cheap, but they have great value as well. Food taste great.

    Dorm Life

Very affordable, always good to learn how to be independent, and most dorms are really helpful, when it comes to knowing what it is you need, and the majority of the time you get way cool people based on same hobbies/interests you have. They match you up with people whom you are common with.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the professor also depends on the academic rigor you get. Some professors have a different way of grading, whether that being easy grading or hard grading, or maybe easy testing or hard testing.

    Tips for prospective students

Always be prepared, don't expect it easy. Some professors have easy class courses, others are quiet difficult. Always ask your advisor what professor to recommend. It is really helpful.

    In three sentences

The school seems to be well organized with the students. They also provide exactly what the students are looking for. The professors are always there to help, they go the extra mile for you if you are really committed to your studies.

    Campus Safety

I have never had a problem with campus safety. Parking lots and walkways are well lit, campus police are on constant patrol and the rules and regulations are adequately enforced.

    Greek Life

I have seen signs for different sororities, but I am not personally involved in any of them.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs to join and lots of activities to go to all the time.

Great for these types of students

UVU is great for diversity. There are lots of students from all walks of life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Because all of the buildings at UVU are connected, they can do some really interesting things. They sometimes have 5k races through the buildings. There is also a nice outdoor courtyard where they sometimes have theatrical productions. I also participated in a riveting game of Zombie Apocalypse in the courtyard.

    Bang for the buck

I transferred from the cheapest college in the state, so UVU's tuition prices were kind of a shock for me. It's rough to have to pay so much for tuition, but it's pretty much the same anywhere you go. The nice thing about UVU is that you can apply for a payment plan and instead of having to pay all of your tuition upfront, you can make monthly payments.

    What to do for fun

UVU always has lots of activities going on; some sponsored by the student government, others by various clubs. So just get involved and there will be lots to do.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of places to choose from when you're hungry. I especially like that if you are not near the food court/cafeteria, there are little bistro/cafe type stations in other buildings for quick snacks.

    Dorm Life

UVU doesn't have any on campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are really good to work with and encourage you to do your best. I have had several who want you to succeed so much that they extend due dates, reopen quizzes and allow you to do make-up work.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to check out where your classes are on a map before scheduling them too close together. Though it is certainly possible to make it from one end of campus to the other in 15 minutes - I wouldn't recommend it. Also, get to school early. All the good parking spaces go fast.

    In three sentences

UVU is always clean, warm, and inviting. I love that I never have to go outside in the winter, because all of the buildings are connected. Class sizes are also a huge plus, because they rarely exceed 30 students.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! They are constantly having parties and trying to get everyone together to have fun and enjoy their college experience. So even if your shy they will get you involved. Almost all of the dorms are close together which makes it easy to socialize and make new friends.

    Academic Rigor

It helps that there aren't many students in your class so the teacher has more time to help you making it a little more easy. Also the professors seem to understand that they aren't the only ones that give you homework and they try to only give you the necessary stuff that will help you and not waste your time.

    Tips for prospective students

Go see your counselor as soon as possible and make sure to sign up for your general ed classes far in advance so you can get a schedule that you like. Also if you it has been over two years since you have taken the ACT you have to take a test called the acuplacer before you can sign up for classes.

The cool kids from high school don't really like the laid back feel of campus and usually transfer away. If you're a bit more high strung you probably won't like it here.

Also, in the science building there is a pendulum that knocks down a peg ever every 45 minutes or so. Whenever one is close to getting hit, students will gather and when it falls they will loudly cheer.

    Bang for the buck

So worth it. I am attending on a full-ride scholarship right now, but even if I wasn't it's a lot cheaper than other schools that were on my list. Quality education for lower costs... even for nonresident students!

    What to do for fun

There is ALWAYS something to do. By the bookstore is The Zone where throughout the week there are different activities. I have used free massage chairs and learned how to play the ukulele all between my Tuesday/Thursday classes. In the evenings there are dances, plays, concerts, movie nights, and more. I'm serious: there is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

A little expensive, but that's to be expected for dining locations that are on-site. I am a fan of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Costa Vida. I also have a soft spot for the chocolate peanut butter squares that can be found at multiple locations on campus.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-campus housing. I actually commute to school from home, so this one doesn't really matter to me. There are lots of apartment buildings close by in Orem, but none of it is sponsored by the school.

    Academic Rigor

One thing I love about this school: there's the option of honors and remedial courses. When completing your generals there is no need to feel completely overwhelmed, but there's also no excuse to have no challenge. I have learned so much from my classes while working hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships early. Your GPA and ACT score will probably get you some sort of reward. If you plan on leaving for military or for a full-time mission, fill out a leave of absence form. Once again, though: early. I served a full-time mission for the LDS church and the process of leaving/reenrolling was fairly smooth. And... they held my scholarship!

    In three sentences

I absolutely love UVU and I am so glad that I can go to school here. My teachers are so willing to help me to achieve and there are so many resources for help when I need it. This is the school for me!

    Campus Safety

UVU has this system set up where if you feel unsafe walking to your car for any reason, or even walking to the bus stop, you call the school police and they will walk or drive you to where you need to be to ensure your safety!

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of dance majors, Huge library for readers, travel programs, tutors, Math lab. Everything you can imagine. Great for all types of students in my opinion!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UVU campus holds an LDS building on one side of the lot for those return missionaries and even those who just want to study the religion. Very interesting for a college to hold, regardless of it being in Utah or not.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is affordable! My family rates lower than middle class in the United States at this very moment, and with the help of grants, loans and hopefully scholarships, my debt wont be nearly as high as a lot of college graduates!

    What to do for fun

So much to do! A new building is almost finished at UVU, it holds a rock climbing wall and a bowling alley, and, surprise, more food places. The school is also one exit away from University Mall, which is a big mall located in Orem as well. It's located right by a Walmart and even more restaurants to choose from.

    Food and Dining

There's a surplus in restaurants and never a shortage of food to eat, from fast food, to more fancy and even healthy food, and tons of fountains and vending machines. They even have a Jamba Juice! Also, for those that can't afford food, theres a specific office especially for you, you receive a meal for free if you just don't know where your next meal will come from.

    Dorm Life

I personally don't know what its really like to live in the dorms. However, I have friends that do and they love it! It's really affordable and they offer housing scholarships and everyone I know has received one. They're very helpful financially.

    Academic Rigor

I can already see that academics are THE most important thing at this school. The library itself has five floors, room to study for you and a group. They have study sessions you can set up online with people taking the same class and/or classes you are in. You can get help from tutors, note takers, advisors, mentors and whoever else can possibly help, all for free. Such an amazing school!

    Tips for prospective students
