Categories Comments Great for these types of students This University is great for students that want to get far from the house and keep their HOPE scholarship. Only downfall I could say is during the warmer months gnats are very annoying. So grab your bug spray and join the Valdosta State University family!
Tips for prospective students If you are interested in coming here you will need to stay focused, do not procrastinate or cheat, study, and have fun. Make sure you make the best of your college experience but keep in mind work comes first. I know a lot of first time freshman that could have done better their first semester. Do not become wild because you are finally free. Just remember that your work comes first no matter what! If you do this and your best, you will leave VSU successful.
Bang for the buck You will get your money's worth here at VSU. VSU is a lot cheaper than other universities and still comes with many benefits. Currently, we have a new Student Center opening up. The new Student Center will have restaurants such as Starbucks, lounging areas, and rumor is that it may have a movie theater. We also have a recreation center that has three basketball courts, volleyball courts in and out-door, racquetball, in-door swimming pool, rock climbing, aerobic room, track and weight room. What about if you are hungry? At VSU we have two cafeterias. If you cannot stand eating the cafeteria food we have restaurants such as Chick-Fe-La, Quiznos, Skyranch (grilled food), Salsa Rico and Sub shops. There is also a convenient store that has food suck as hot dogs, candy, bagels, frozen foods, milk, lunchable's, drinks, etc. Be careful, rather expensive.
Am enjoying being here If you want the perfect college experience, VSU is for you! It is the best place to go if you want to get far away from home and still keep the HOPE Scholarship. While at VSU, you will enjoy all of the campus activities. VSU has organizations that hosts campus activities such as laser tag, flag football and Build-a-Bear workshops (which were free). I enjoy being here because of the warm weather (takes a while to get used to), the scenery (palm trees) and the size of the campus. Everything is in walking distance so you will not be stressed for time if you are running late for a class. You will enjoy your time being here!
Am learning a lot VSU is a great institute to further your education. I must say that I am learning a lot. My teachers are great and if I need further assistance they are willing to meet with me during office hours, or e-mail. If this is not enough, VSU has a tutoring center called The Student Success Center. This is very beneficial and convenient. You can set appointments for any subject and based on when you are available. Just make sure you study and work hard, and you will be fine. I promise.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Manage your time wisely! If you really want to have the best possible college experience, manage your time wisely.
Bang for the buck Valdosta State University is the total package. Finding one's way around campus is easy - most everything one needs is within walking distance. VSU's shuttle buses are also very convenient (the new ones have air conditioning!). There are also a number of choices when it comes to dining. VSU's meal plans will keep money in one's pocket. Not down for cafeteria food? VSU offers a number of retail dining centers including Chic-Fil-A, Quizno's, and Salsa Rico.
Am enjoying being here Valdosta State was my first and only choice for college. I was looking for the school farthest away from home that would allow me to keep the HOPE scholarship. Once you have arrived, there are numerous activities to keep one busy. I am a part of the Honor Student Association as well as the VSU Tennis Club. The one downside to attending VSU is the sweltering heat. Give it a week, and you'll adapt.
Am learning a lot Valdosta State's staff is about as friendly a group of people as you will find anywhere else. I am in my second year here, and I feel more confident about reaching my goals every day. Being an Honors student, I worried about the potential workload. Every single one of my classes has been thought-provoking, challenging (at times), and most definately rewarding.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All types literally.....unless you dislike the peaceful type of setting and having a lot of different things to do, that is the only way this school is not for you!
Tips for prospective students Do not stay in your dorm all the time, of course you are supposed to come to college to get an education but it is supposed to be memorable! Get out there and have fun! Be sure to know how to balance out school and your social life.
Bang for the buck The cost of Valdosta State University beats out the cost of all my friends colleges! VSU's price of room and board, tuition, and fees is cheaper than most of the colleges in the United States (for it to be a university!). We have it all in one....a movie theatre, cafe, gym......all already paid for out of tuition and fees!
Am enjoying being here Coming here I met this group called Xchange Ministries.....they helped me find the person who made this all possible JESUS! There are so many different opportunities to get out and meet people and to learn about yourself on this campus.
Am learning a lot I learned about myself, God, and other people coming here. As with schoolwork, if you at least listen to the teacher and/or read over the lessons you are guaranteed a A for the semester.....for the incoming freshman. As for the upperclassmen......I do not know yet but we will find out;-)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school would be great for students who liked to be involved on campus with different activities. Also it would be great for students that do not have a problem with getting the best BANG FOR THEIR BUCKS!
Tips for prospective students Attend Valdosta State University and trust me, you will love it! But also be mindful of your financial status. Try to avoid loans as much as possible. Have realistic goals and do not allow someone to pressure you into choosing a school that is not right for you! Go and explore campuses and take your time to figuring out what best suits you!
Bang for the buck If you have concerns about getting the biggest bang for your buck I think that Valdosta State is just the right place for you. From the start all i have to say is V-Sate has its own rock climbing wall!! Yes, i said it! 30 feet standing tall and bold. Valdosta is the place to be, and if have not said enough an indoor swimming pool! V-State is home to one of the most beautiful campuses available for college living! Unlimited access to recreation and dining facilities. Not to mention the act that Valdosta State has at least 15 dining locations on campus and is actually building a new student union for the spring semester with 5 more!! The campus also has a great wi-fi connection with its own wireless network and technology shop as well. Not to mention all of the computer resources available throughout the entire campus. Valdosta also has very nice convenient shuttle bus's that transport you all over campus.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being at this University because their are plenty of activities to become involved in on and off campus. Since Valdosta is pretty much a small town, its easy to make friends because you see students around all over town. If you enjoy having a nice time with friend and enjoying the beautiful campus then you will love V-State. Also the city has its own amusement park (Wild Adventures Theme Park) This is a pretty cool place to visit.
Am learning a lot Valdosta State is a great Institution, I am constantly learning new materials and the teachers here make it very easy to interact with themselves and also fellow classmates. I can even say that in the one super class (class of at least 100) my professor was willing to get to know each individual student and we were all recognized on a first name basis, this makes it alot easier to get the necessary help and learning tools available.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want to come to a campus that is a medium sized, with nice people, and a Florida vibe while still being in Georgia, then come to VSU. It's an amazing college and you would really enjoy the experience.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering Valdosta State University as your future college, i think you should come. VSU is very nice, and you will receive a wonderful education. Don't be nervous about the transition at all. VSU gives the students the independence they need while also making sure that they are protected.
Bang for the buck You get a great education for the money you are paying. Valdosta State is a great investment towards your future. It won't be a waist of your time nor money to apply, and actually attend.
Am enjoying being here VSU is a great place to receive the full college experience. There is always activities going on around campus and everyone is quite friendly.
Am learning a lot Valdosta State University is a very intellectual college. They have both average and rigorous courses. The professors actually care about you succeeding and the classes are small so that the teacher:student ratio is acceptable; helping to stimulate the students' mind.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Valdosta State University is great for students who may not have graduated at the top of their class in High School, but still have a good work ethic and are looking for a smaller learning environment.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to come to Valdosta with an open mind. In your first few weeks you will meet tons of people. Make sure to hang around a good group of friends, and avoid fake ones. Make good choices and stay focused.
Bang for the buck Valdosta State is a cheaper college to attend than most Universities in the State of Georgia. On campus living is recommended to all new incoming students and is an inexpensive way to go to save money, and meet tons of new people.
Am enjoying being here Valdosta State University is located in Valdosta, GA which is a smaller, kind of hokie town. It does however, have the Colonial Mall, Wild Adventures Theme Park, two movie theaters, every resturant you can think of, and a Super Wal-Mart. The Campus makes up for the town with several activities offered to new and current students. There are usually parties on weekends and at the Bar's. My first semester in the dorms was an awesome experience, and everyone is extremely friendly. The only negative I would give from my experience here is the town.
Am learning a lot Valdosta State University is a great place to learn due to the smaller class sizes and more personal time with Professors. The Student Success Center is a building located next to Langdale Hall where you can receive free tutoring in any subject, as well as test review, and essay editing. It definitely makes studying a lot easier and the fact that it's free is the best part. There are also planned study groups for virtually any subject that meet in Odum Library weekly to help students prepare for exams. Overall, Valdosta State has all the resources needed to achieve academically in College.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who wants smaller class sizes and is afraid of getting lost at a big school should attend VSU!
Tips for prospective students Don't be discouraged by the smaller size of the school. The education you receive here is just as great as any bigger, more well-known school.
Bang for the buck Especially if you have the HOPE scholarship, the bang for the buck factor is great! The tuition is smaller compared to the bigger public universities, and you get the same education.
Am enjoying being here I am from Valdosta, so I initially wanted to move and go to any college but VSU. My parents talked me into staying at home and attending VSU for at least my first two years of college, but now I think I may stay here for all four. I wish I could have the traditional college experience that everyone else has, but VSU is a good fit for me. The size of the school is perfect--big enough to have all the majors students would want to choose from, and small enough to where students can walk around campus and not get lost.
Am learning a lot I am definitely learning a lot! The school offers plenty of majors, and the core classes are taught by instructors who do their best to apply the material from that class to the students' majors and interests.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like hot weather, then do come=]]
Tips for prospective students Get involved as soon as you get on campus. Have fun but don't forget you are here for your education.
Bang for the buck VSU is definitely on the cheap side. The room and board is outrageous but tuition is very affordable.
Am enjoying being here Valdosta as a city doesn't really have much to offer. The mall is only one story and can be viewed in its entirety in one hour or less. Also, the downtown area isn't much to get excited about. Campus life is ok. Getting involved is key. Yet, it might not be enough. Students often don't come out for major events unless it's a party of some sort.
Am learning a lot Last semester, I didn't learn as much as I thought I would. However, I don't think that had anything to do with the school as much as it did with my high school education and preparation. This semester I believe will be much more challenging. I am taking 17 credit hours which may be the reason why I believe it will be harder.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want a big university feel without actually going to a huge university. VSU is big enough to give you freedom and space but small enough that you don't feel overwhelmed. Students who want to go into Speech-Language Pathology (I am not biased! (; ) They have a great program and 100% employment rate after college from that major. Students who love warm weather and don't mind not getting snowed in every winter. Valdosta isn't far from Florida so it's pretty sunny. Students who are intent on not gaining that infamous Freshman 15. VSU's recreational center is complete with a pool that is heated to 82 degrees all year round, an indoor track, two workout centers, 3 intramural basketball/volleyball courts, and a 2 story rock climbing wall!!! Wow!
Tips for prospective students 1. VISIT CAMPUS!!!! I can't stress this enough! It is the most important factor in deciding on college. This is where you will be living for the next 4-5 years. 2. Talk to people who are there, hear it from actual students. Do they like it? This should tell you a good bit about the school from a real perspective. 3. Explore your options when it comes to your major. Talk to your advisors and when you go for a campus visit, make sure to make a stop at every table you might have an interest in. Get all the information you need/want about the particular area of study. 4. Have fun and study too!!! Don't get caught up on all the wonderful activities VSU has to offer, make yourself well rounded and try to have a good balance of work and play.
Bang for the buck It's true, VSU is a little on the pricey side but with HOPE it's not that bad and it is definitely worth the money! Everything around campus is newly renovated and is kept up very well. There are all kinds of places to eat around campus and there are so many neat things in the recreational center. So if you're worried about price just apply for scholarships and know that you are going to have a great education at VSU and it is very much worth the cash.
Will enjoy being here VSU is beautiful. I adore the campus and the location. Valdosta is 15 miles to the Florida/Georgia border and has such a great feel to the town. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and all the dorms are very nice and well kept. I plan to live in Georgia Hall which is the new suite style dorm just for Freshmen. There are plenty of things to do in and out of campus, I don't think I'll ever get bored when I have down time!
Will learn a lot I am going into the field of Speech-Language Pathology and VSU has a wonderful program. I already have my classes planned out for the next 2 years (core) and know what classes I'll be in for my major. I had so much variety as to what I could take and it's not just the typical everyone takes the same math or english. I had many options and was able to choose what was best for me.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Apply for housing early! The best places to live are Reade, Georgia, and Hopper Hall.
Am enjoying being here They have a new Student Union, and there is always something to do. Starbucks is an amazing addition to the campus. They have a new movie theatre on campus.
Am learning a lot Being in the Honors Program has helped me in learning more than the average student. The Honors classes I am taking are smaller and more personal than the regular classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students For students, this school is best recommended for a good education, it is located in a great spot that is close to beaches in Florida, and there is a lot of firendly people around the university. Once you come, you will blend in as if you belong here!
Tips for prospective students For future students, i would say to be prepared. Once i came down here, a lot of stuff happened. For example, when i got settled in on move-in day, i got to know other people. I would also say to look over your work. Sometimes the teachers would give out pop quizzes over the material. Always, they will test you over it. Its best to study on your free time and when you do not have class for a certain period of time. Besides that, just be prepared for what will come your way!
Bang for the buck The tuition cost of Valdosta is real low. It is affordable for anyone to go there. Hope and financial aid will help out a lot! The cost of meal plans are pretty affordable. Sometimes, there are a few things on campus that will give a run for your money, but it is worth it!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at Valdosta State! The atmosphere is uplifting. There is good weather in Valdosta. Everywhere you go, you will meet a lot of people. Trust me on this. About everywhere i went, i always meet someone or some people. Im somewhat close to home so i can go whenever i want. There is a lot of involvement in Valdosta so it is easy to go out and do stuff. Other than that, i enjoy being in Valdosta!
Am learning a lot Valdosta State is the best place to go for education. They offer many majors and courses to satisfy your future job. As a freshmen for now, i am learning a lot from the school. There is always help with course work where ever you go. About everyday, you will always something new and cool that you will never expect!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Valdosta State is great for students who want to get away from home but still be able to go home. Here you meet friendly people and experience new cultures while learning and having fun.
Tips for prospective students Always go to classes and study a little bit each day and never cram. Make sure teachers know who you are and sit at the front of the class.
Bang for the buck Valdosta is cheaper than a lot of other schools. Not only is it cheaper but it offers a wide variety of dining experiences for the student. If you prefer not to eat on campus, there are restaurants within walking distance of the school. VSU offers the ultimate college experience on a budget.
Am enjoying being here VSU offers many activities for the student by the student. We have laser tag which is so fun especially when played at night, flag football, intramural sports, and so much more. The weather is beautiful especially during the spring except the summer brings gnats so I'd recommend bug spray. Everything is within walking distance and if you don't want to walk then you can take the bus.
Am learning a lot I'm definitely learning a lot here. I'm finishing up my second year and going into my third year with a new confidence. VSU offers hands on experience and research opportunities for just about anything and everything. The teachers are awesome and are willing to help you by e-mail, appointment, or walk in. If you still don't get it then you can always check out the Student Success Center which offers online tutoring, peer to peer tutoring; just make an appointment or walk in.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want a college that has a great learning environment, has a gorgeous campus, and is always adding new things for its students, then VSU is the right place for you. This university is perfect for those students who want to be away from home but still want to be able to go back for a visit and who want the sunshine and palm trees without the high price of out of state tuition. Just remember, it gets mighty hot here in the summer and there are a lot of gnats. Bring your bug spray and sunscreen!!
Tips for prospective students Yes, there are bars and clubs near campus, and while it may be tempting to go out every night because you're finally away from home and can do what you want, be careful!! Don't let your grades slip because you went out the night before an exam and didn't study and only got 2 hours of sleep. Your grades should be your first priority and your social life should be come after.
Bang for the buck VSU is one of the cheapest Universities in GA and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The new Student Union offers an on campus Starbucks, the Loop, which offers pizza, burgers, and other such food items, and also a Nathan's Hot Dog counter. There's also a convenience store downstairs next to our campus movie theater that shows a different movie just about every month for free! There are two dining halls on campus and if you don't want to eat at either of those, there are numerous other places to grab a bite on campus. We also have a huge student recreation center with an indoor rock climbing wall and an indoor pool. The rec center also has a fully stocked gym with weight lifting equipment and elliptical units. Want to take a yoga class? The Student Rec Center offers them and other fitness classes free of charge as well. There are also two mini grocery stores on campus, but be careful, they are a little expensive.
Am enjoying being here I love being a student at VSU. The campus is always expanding and new things are being added all the time. I'm a psychology major here and we're getting a new psychology building this Fall semester! The opportunities here are endless and you'll never be bored. There's always something going on around campus and even in the community as a whole. The Student Union is open almost all of the time and offers a place for the students to hang out; maybe watch the game on one of the tvs there, or just to chill and take a break from studying. Overall, VSU is a great place to call home for four years.
Am learning a lot If you're looking for a school where the learning environment is open, friendly, and conducive to learning the material well, VSU is the perfect place. The class sizes range from what you're used to in high school to about 200 people. The professors and staff are amazing at VSU. It's so easy to get in touch with your teachers or the tutoring center and they're always there to answer your questions or to give suggestions on how to study for their class. You won't be set adrift here, alone and confused as to what to do or what is expected of you. The academic environment at VSU is tailored to help the students here and is the perfect place to get your degree.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Leave your house 30 minutes before class if you want to get there on time and do not live on campus if you can help it. Though you make a lot of friends, they are overly strict and it is not worth the money. Be prepared to use your computer, a lot.
Bang for the buck Although the tuition is fairly cheap, the price you pay for room and board is not worth it. With most housing, you have to share bathrooms with the whole hall you are on. The rooms are tiny and disgusting. I would not live on VSU's campus if I were you. Also, the campus is so spread out. You have to walk miles to get from point A to point B. We have shuttles, but they are almost always late!
Am enjoying being here Valdosta does not have much to offer for students. There is no downtown area for college students to hang out, it is all done on campus. Maybe the college campus would be more attractive to students if they had an active downtown for the younger students.
Am learning a lot A lot of the teachers are now switching to clickers which are basically an easy way out for them not to teach. Almost all of the homework and assignments are online. If I wanted to do everything online, I would have signed up for an online class!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you come prepared to learn VSU is the best school for you.
Tips for prospective students Tips for prospective students is to come prepared to work. Don't slack off just because they are out of school and not under the watchful eye of their parents.
Bang for the buck I agree one hundred percent that this school is the bang for your buck. More is being added to the campus each year to help students gain a better experience at VSU.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here, there is always something to do on campus. Many organizations have activities to participate in just for fun and also to teach a lesson. All the events given on campus are not just because, they have reason's behind them. Some of the events i've attened were for domestic violence, AIDs awareness, Alcohol awareness and many more
Am learning a lot At VSU the professors are there to help you. There is no need to be scared or ashamed of asking for help. Your professors will go out of their way to make sure you getting the proper and adequate knowledge of the subject. Professors willingly give you their office hours, telephone numbers and emails, this reassures you that they are willing to help. If the professors can't fully help you there is a tutoring center on campus for each student's use free of charge. They are also really helpful.

Categories Comments Will enjoy being here I have been accepted to VSU and will be attending VSU in August. I have had the pleasure of visiting the campus and it is very pretty. The dorms are nice and they have a lot for you to do on campus. The campus itself is easy to get around and is convenient for those like me, who don't have a car. So far, the faculty that I came in contact with are very friendly and helpful. I am satisfied with VSU so far and I look forward to attending.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is always around so you will feel safe at all times. Especially at night if you are coming from the bars or the club or even from a friends room
Greek Life I'm not apart of Greek Life but from what I seen since attending this school is a wide variety of Greeks. They are all over the school and the probates they have are fun.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities to join from ranging from Psychology club to Computer club. Whatever your desires are in a club Valdosta offers. If they do not have a club that you wish they had you can even sign up to make the club yourself.
What to do for fun You can join a club or you can always go to the city of Valdosta and there is many things like the mall or the bowling alley or the movies and many other places that Valdosta offers.
Food and Dining There are many choices on campus to eat so you will never be hungry. Places like Moe's or Chick-Fil-A and Papa John's also the two all you can eat dining centers are many of the places you can eat at Valdosta.
Dorm Life There is always programs that the RA's have for the students living on campus and programs teaching you about college life. You have a variety of dorm rooms on where to live.
Academic Rigor The classes at Valdosta are very fun challenging. Your teachers will be your best friend and will help you whenever you need it.
Tips for prospective students Have fun and stay on top of your toes when it comes to your classes because before you know it college life will be finished. Also talk to your teachers they are gladly to help you.
In three sentences It's a great and magnificent school. There is always something to do and people are very friendly. I would give Valdosta a 8 out of 10 overall

Categories Comments What to do for fun The recreation center in a great place to go for a variety of sports including: basketball, volleyball, racket ball, swimming, and weight lifting. The front lawn offers games that anyone can join in at times or you can create your own amusement. there will be activities all around campus during pretty much every week you just have to keep your eyes open.
Food and Dining Some people like the meal plans some don't depends on your preferences. Other than the dining halls the school has different restaurants that you can go to like Papa Johns and Chick-fil-A. I suggest planing when you are going to use you blazer bucks and and not blow by them all in the first couple of weeks.
Dorm Life Depending on the dorm you may have a worse experience than normal but the dorms allow you to met a variety of people and offer activities and games that you can compete in so that you can get to know and familiarize yourself with your surroundings.
Academic Rigor Most teachers in my experience help you learn in ways that high school couldn't and you can visit them during there office hours to ask more questions and get help on assignments that you do not understand. The student success center is a great way for you to get help on projects and assignments from a variety of sources because of the fact that there are other students there to help you learn.
Tips for prospective students Plan your schedule in a way that benefits you most, like planning large gaps between classes so that you can study of get your work done. make sure you get to classes that you need to attend on time because in most classes you can only miss about four lectures before you don't get credit for the class, so if you need to skip talk to the teacher ahead of time not the same day and get things organized, unless you happen to be in a lecture style class where there about 100 people in the class and the professor isn't going to check role every day. READ the syllabus, the syllabus tells you exactly when things are due and how to do them and when tests are and you do not want to be on the side of having a supposed pop test.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is a great school with a diverse assortment of activities, clubs, sports, and programs that you can participate in. The school's population and area allows you to meet people from a variety of different backgrounds and cultures.

Categories Comments Campus Safety For the most part the campus is very safe, but like on most campuses you should always be aware of your surroundings. Valdosta does however hae numerous escort services for people who need it.
Greek Life The Greeks are extremely involved on the campus. They can always be seen on around.
Clubs and Activities It is very easy to get involved with the clubs around campus they are always promoting themselves and their cause.
Great for these types of students Honestly Valdosta is great for every type of student!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am only a first year student and I have not seen anything nontraditional or 'unusual
Bang for the buck You can literally see where your money is going on campus. The upkeep of the school is astounding, and the buildings are just as beautiful. The campus food is also pretty good. The student recreation center is amazing as well!
What to do for fun There is ALWAYS something to do in Valdosta. There are always events on and off campus. Valdosta is truly a college town so there are plenty of things to do in town!
Food and Dining The food is delicious! There are choices for every type of eater.
Dorm Life The dorms are beautiful, and the faster you apply for a dorm the more likely you will get good roommates and a nicer dorm.
Academic Rigor If your study habits are good and you are a well balanced student the academics will not be extremely strenuous.
Tips for prospective students All professors are different no matter what school you attend so just be prepared for any type of instructor. Also be willing to study and learn how to manage your time well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Has a great safety department.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and activities to be involved in.
Bang for the buck The cost of attending is so much cheaper then the school I am currently at up in NH.
What to do for fun There is plenty to do on and off campus. Valdosta has a great theme part in Wild Adventures. I use to live about 4 miles beyond it and have been a season pass holder in the past.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to study, having fun is important but do not let that encompass your time there or it will reflect in your grades.
In three sentences VSU has a great campus and is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the student.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck While at school I learned that it is imperative that students attend class. Unlike primary public schooling, there is a fee to attend secondary schools. Most students have fun on campus, but they also keep in mind that there is a goal while being away at school.
Am enjoying being here Of course I am enjoying my experience here at VSU. The institution has so many activities to offer, therefore there is never a dull moment on campus. The campus activities board has at least one activity for students a week and the activities are free. Also because I am involved in different organizations on campus I always have something to do.
Am learning a lot Although I have only completed one year of secondary school, I have learned a great amount of material. I noticed that in primary school I would only memorized the material for exams, but here at VSU the instructors make the material worth learning.

Bang for the buck You do get some bang for your buck, but not as much as you would hope for.
Am enjoying being here It's great for being away from home and the games that go on at the school are immense! School pride is big here, but its not all about the school. The town scene of Valdosta is very nice and there are plenty of things to do.
Am learning a lot The educational variety at VSU is great and so are the teachers. They take the time to teach you and make sure that you know what you are learning.

Bang for the buck Prices are fair.
Am enjoying being here Coming from a big city, Valdosta doesn't have as much stuff to do.
Am learning a lot following: I love Valdosta, It has the feel of a huge school, yet small enough so you don't feel completely lost. I love the fact that you can easily get in touch with the professors, and the people in the city are quite hospitable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety so far, i have not had any problems. i notice security around campus.
Greek Life love it!!!!!!!! love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What to do for fun i joined a sorority and we stay pretty busy with socials, events, and chapter meetings when not in class. this has been a big help to me. i also like to go walk around the mall with friends and shop.
Food and Dining the food in the dining areas could be better. i use the small meal plan because the food in other places is usually better. if the food was better i would eat there more.
Dorm Life dorm life is definitely different than home. having the freedom is great. learning to get along with roommates is different than sharing a room with a brother or sister.
Academic Rigor academic life at vsu is rigorous but not to the point of breaking you down. stay on top of work and don't fall behind and will you be just fine. if you need help, ask!!!
Tips for prospective students i suggest not taking a full load for your first semester. getting used to the college life is hard enough to adjust to without the worries of a full load of classes. my suggestion would be to take no more than 12 credit hours first semester.
In three sentences vsu is an excellent school. i am only a freshman here and i have been made to feel like this is my home away from home since i arrived. joining the greek life has helped me with getting to know others who are not so close to home either.

Categories Comments What to do for fun the student union has pool tables, ping pong tables, and tvs. plenty of new and interesting people to meet on campus. wild adventures is close by. student groups on campus usually have a movie night, with free food and drinks, every weekend. there is usually something fun happening every day here.
Food and Dining the food is usually the same every day and the dining hours aren't that great.
Dorm Life sometimes the people in the hallways or the dorm next to you may not be quiet. also, you may not get the best roommate in the world.
Academic Rigor classes vary based on who the teachers are. some teachers are easier than others.
Tips for prospective students make sure you have storage bins ahead of time, dorm rooms are notoriously small. never leave your laundry unattended in the laundry room for too long. have shower shoes.
In three sentences the class sizes are fairly small and the teachers can be very helpful. vsu is a small campus and it is easy to find your way around. it is a beautiful campus and most people are really nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Cops are everywhere and there are many blue emergency stations.
Clubs and Activities Valdosta State offers a lot of clubs and activities. Sororities, Fraternities, Academic Clubs, Intramural sports, christian ministries, etc.
Bang for the buck I think some of the things that students are charged for should be on an as used basis.
What to do for fun You can go to the front lawn and play frisbee, hammock, lay-out and do just about any outdoor activity. There are local bars, Jack's bowling, Downtown Valdosta, First Friday, and many more activities.
Food and Dining This year Valdosta state got a new food provider. I think last year's provider was better because they had more options.
Dorm Life I work for the housing department and they try really hard to get residents involved and create good programs. Their Resident Assistant's go through a lot of training. There needs to be more housing though.
Academic Rigor The education here is great. Compared to a bigger University however, I think the academics are fair.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you can handle being that far away from home if you are from the Atlanta area. If you cannot, do not waste your time and be miserable here.
In three sentences Valdosta State is attractive for students from the Atlanta area. It offers great academic courses and there are many clubs and groups. Valdosta State is a beautiful campus

Dorm Life Dorms here are a hit or miss just like any other college, if you have the choice always go for Georgia hall.
Academic Rigor The academic courses at Valdosta are fairly easy. Most of the professors are incredibly helpful and friendly.
In three sentences Valdosta is a great school for those who want the big college feel in a small campus. The people here are extremely friendly, as well as the teachers. As long as you can handle the heat there is nothing else to complain about!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always police on campus at any time of the day and night.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of clubs to be apart of if you want to become an active student or if you want to make friends.
Bang for the buck Professor here at VSU believe in giving you what you pay for. The education is top notch and the atmosphere is great.
What to do for fun Valdosta is a small town but there are always something to do. Every week there are a list of campus events. Valdosta also has a mall and we are only 30 mins. away from the Florida state line.
Food and Dining The dining halls are okay, they are all you can eat so you'll never go hungry. There are several eateries on campus that take blazer bucks, cash, and plastic.
Dorm Life Dorm life is okay but it is mostly for the freshman. After my first year I moved into an apartment and it has been great!
Academic Rigor Valdosta State University is not a school for lazy people. In order to be successful, good study habits must be present.
Tips for prospective students The only tip I have is to study hard, make friends, ask professors for help and always have fun.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is the best school I've attended. I transferred for a different university that did not have a third of the credentials VSU has. Deciding to attend Valdosta State University was the best decision I ever made.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police are scared to patrol at night and do not inform you of any incidences and the emergency boxes are horrible placed. Someone is robbed daily here.
Greek Life Greek life is really big here.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students Great if you participate in Greek life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Valdosta state has no pride and no traditions. The only traditions is through greek life.
Bang for the buck For all the money that school costs especially Valdosta it is not worth it.
What to do for fun The only things to do for fun are go to the front lawn and play pick up games of football and soccer and stuff.
Food and Dining Food was actually pretty good but the hours are horrible and the staff is usually pretty rude.
Dorm Life For me Dorm life was horrible, however I lived in the worst dorm on campus and had to deal with disgusting bathrooms shared by the whole floor. Dorm life was also very loud and obnoxious and I felt rather unsafe as well.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor was fairly easy.
Tips for prospective students Definitely try to live of campus if possible and make sure you have lots of food since the dining services are really bad. Be prepared to deal with people you don't like.
In three sentences Valdosta State is a pretty good school when it comes to education and the teaching staff. Valdosta definitely needs to improve housing and dining services since they are really lacking. Overall I would not tell someone to avoid Valdosta but would not tell them it's the greatest choice either.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Palms and Hopper are the two places to dine at on a meal plan and the other places to eat at are based on blazer bucks. They all serve fantastic food and it is all just based on what you have a taste for.
Dorm Life All of the dorms suit your needs and have the things necessary to complete your years at VSU. Some of the dorms are more fabulous and a little better than others but that just like all colleges will be based on the price that you are willing to pay. Overall VSU has wonderful dorms and they are quite beautiful.
Academic Rigor The professors here are put there to teach. They all are willing to help any way that they can as long as you ask ahead of time and are willing and really want to get help. None of them believe in sugarcoating what is going to help you but when they are needed they are definitely there to help.
In three sentences VSU is a wonderful school wit ha great campus. The atmosphere is great for a new earning opportunity and you are bound to meet great friends along with professors. There are wonderful places in which you can learn quietly or even outside if you please to. VSU overall is a great experience for anyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Pretty good I guess. I just HATE campus police because they think that they rule the world but they do not! They are annoying!
Greek Life Too many of them...
Clubs and Activities There is a club or organization for anyone! So dont worry about that!
Great for these types of students Any type really, but you have to be prepared for the heat!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus ...there are not any that I know of.
Bang for the buck Valdosta overall is pretty good choice!
What to do for fun On campus, there pretty much is nothing. You will have to go off campus for that. Every one and a while CAB will put on fun events and its all FREE~
Food and Dining As for food, this is where Valdosta gets a bad rating. Palms is the major dining hall and it is NASTY in there. I refuse to eat there at all. The plates and dishes are gross and unclean. The food is the same everyday--and I am a vegetarian so there is not much I can do! As for the second dining hall, Hopper, it is WONDERFUL in there. I love the staff and the food. They have stir-fry, where you can get some noodled to your liking. Hopper as has a salad bar, omelets and pancakes, and other lines that change everyday.
Dorm Life I think that I am biased in this area because I roomed with my friend from high school, but dorm life was not that bad! My RA was the best one, so I have no idea how other RA were, but as for the dorm its self, it was great! I loved my little box!
Academic Rigor It is the perfect balance of hard and easy. Some classes, you will end up hating but other classes you might love.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning to attend Valdosta, you better be prepared for the heat and gnats! I promise you, words can not describe how many gnats there are! Also, the campus is very black and white. There is not much of any other race there. Yes, we do have come international students from Korea, Japan, and other places but it is nothing compared to other races.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is more than palm trees on the brochure. At Valdosta, if you are from the city like me, you might have a hard time adjusting to 'small town life' but things get better from there. It is a lot of fun and the classes are easy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is amazing. There are these yellow posts that have cameras on them throughout the campus. All you have to do is push the button and you're basically safe. The VSU police department (The school has a separate police dept.) will see what's going on and can talk to you through the mic on the post. There are always police lurking around the campus for safety.
What to do for fun If you are hanging out with your friends, and people you love, fun will be infinite to you at VSU. There are things to do in the city of Valdosta itself but VSU does offer activities almost everyday on campus. There are clubs, sports, recreational activities, and etc.
Food and Dining The food is a bit redundant at VSU but hey accommodate for all types of eater. It's not at all especially for the pizza eaters.
Dorm Life The dorm life as a freshman is fun but if you are a quiet to yourself kinf of person, you will have a hard time. There's always loud music and people screaming in the hallways. Be apart f that clamor and you will have fun for sure.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is very challenging as it should be. The slacker in high school will really need to step it up if they are trying to succeed at this school. The professors are nice but they are stern when it comes to grading. You have to give your all on every assignment or your grade will suffer. You reap what you sew.
Tips for prospective students If you are contemplating on whether or not you want to go to Valdosta, you are probably going to end up there. Many people who love the school didn't originally want to be there including me. No it's not located in this huge city with light and billboards. No, you can't go shopping late at night and there aren't many places to shop period. I do know that if you decide to come, you will have the experience of a lifetime and you are not going to want to leave this little small town.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is an amazing school with a variety of students, and a fantastic campus. I know for sure that their music program has a lot to offer and I am proud to be a part of this school. More importantly, the campus ministries are more than amazing. There are many christian students here just waiting to share the gospel with others believers or not.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can call campus police of you want to be escorted somewhere at night.
Greek Life Step shows, community service, lines crossing, etc...
Clubs and Activities CAB: Campus Activities Board They plan activities where you can make: build a bear, calendars w/pics, wax hands, candle-making, caricatures, license plate tags, signs, canvas bags w/pics, barbeques, laser tag, big chair photos, key chains, moon bounce, celebrity comedy shows, talent shows, modeling shows, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Sometimes they put food coloring or detergent in the fountains so don't be alarmed if there are floods of suds...
What to do for fun Remerton is a town kind of within Valdosta where you have bars. Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees and Chilis are where you want to go if theres a game or fight on. Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Panama City, Atlanta, Savannah, Daytona, Orlando are a few short hours away (driving)...road trips! Spend SOME of your refund check shopping in some of these places. There are some local clubs for each type of genre Rodeo, Amvets etc. There's a mall about 2 miles from campus. Make friends & hang out in the Union or the front lawn. Go to The Happening (vendors come out and give away free food, prizes, raffles, coupons, etc), go to CAB events (front lawn, Union, Quad), go to Relay for Life events, greek events, community service, etc. Go to the Rec Ctr: rock climbing, indoor pool, tanning, basketball, track, gym, etc. Core plans inexpensive trips white water rafting, tubing, sky-diving, scuba diving, ropes course, etc. There's a lot to do you just have to catch them/make time for fun.
Food and Dining There are 2 convenient stores on campus: Langdale and Centennial Halls. There are 2 dining halls where it 'all you care to eat': Palms and Hopper (actually in Hopper Hall). You have a variety of food served like international line (Mexican, Chinese, Italian, etc), southern style, pizza, burgers, fries, cold cuts & wraps, desserts, etc. The dining halls have themed events like: Mardi Gras, Cinco de Mayo, birthdays, tailgating, wing nite, steak & shrimp, etc. Also you have places on campus to eat like: The Loop (pizza, burgers, etc), Nathans (hot dogs, wings, phillies etc), Starbucks, Papa Johns, Moes, Pinkberry (froyo!), Chef's Table (southern style), Chic-fil-A, etc.
Dorm Life Always take tours of each hall you're considering. It's good to do the virtual tours online, but it's always better to see things in person because pictures don't show everything. Each hall/dorm has activities and RAs and front desk worker so that you can still have fun and have someone there to answer your questions. They have game night, free food, dorm vs dorm competitions, etc. Each dorm has a nice lounge area in the lobby, multiple study rooms, classrooms, great rooms used for activities or whatever you want, pool tables/ping pong, etc. They have a wide variety of dorms/halls/apartments. There are traditional residence halls: Patterson, Lowndes, Langdale, Brown. There are apartment style suites: Hopper, Georgia, Converse, Centennial.
Academic Rigor I'm not sure about other fields of study, but the Pre-Engineering program is awesome. The professors are so knowledgeable on topics they discuss and are very passionate so they know what to focus on during lectures, tell great stories about their personal experiences, and share real-world applications of relevant lecture topics. The classes are definitely tough because they are preparing you for your degree, transferring, etc. and the real world. Expect lots of reading and homework in the Math and Physics classes. At times, you may not be told what and when to read, but usually your syllabus will have a semester outline of chapters/topics covered. I think the general rule of thumb is: Take the credit hours of your class, multiply it by 4, and that's the number of hours a week you should spend on studying/reading/homework. The programs here are hard, but the rewards make it worth the hard work. The professor push and motivate you. This school is great when it comes to academically preparing their students.
Tips for prospective students Time management is very important; make sure that you have time set aside for studying as well as fun. Live on campus for the first year to get acclimated to the campus, people, etc. Take tours/view virtual tours online before choosing traditional housing. Communicate with roommate(s) before you move in. Buy or rent your textbooks from outside sources because the campus bookstore is really expensive. Bring lots of suntan lotion, multiple pairs of sunglasses, & rainboots because the majority of the time its hot or raining. Make sure you find your classes during orientation because missing/being late to the first two days of class could mean that youre taken off the roster. Use your resources: attend free tutoring, see your professor during office hours, study groups with classmates, use library/dorm study rooms, etc. Get/stay involved on campus. Read your syllabus entirely. So many people miss tests/final exams because they expect professors to constantly remind them of dates, times, locations, etc. Make sure that you can do your own laundry, cook quick meals, wake yourself up, etc. because no one will do this for you. Form a great relationship with your professors. Don't annoy them, but make sure they know your name & your efforts because this could be the difference between being borderline or not. Study your OWN notes. Do all homework even if it's not mandatory/graded. Know/meet your advisor during orientation.
In three sentences For VSU to be one of the state's most affordable public institutions, it offers you a good variety: beautiful campus, nice amenities, activities galore, great programs of study, etc. The town itself may not be the 'typical college town' environment, but Valdosta is not far from Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Savannah, and Panama City to name a few. The programs here are great because the professors really have a passion for what they teach, are very willing to help, and actually care about their student's progress.

Food and Dining The food court is nice and diverse. There is a wide variety to pick from. The food is mostly good and includes restaurants such as Nathan's and Chick-fil-A. The food is always appetizing.
Dorm Life The dorm is nice. The rooms are clean and spacey. Living in the dorm better connects the students with their classmates as well as teachers because they are always on campus.
Academic Rigor It is very important to keep all your grades up. The teachers are mostly strict but fun. They treat you as adults and have no problem with failing you if you do not do what you are supposed to.
Tips for prospective students I would tell students to make sure that they are open-minded as well as hard workers. I would also tell them to make sure they do all their work and strive for the best. I would tell them to keep their heads up and stay focused.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is always patrolled by the police 24 hours. If you are in danger, there are call areas all over campus and a police officer will arrive in minutes after the call is placed.
Greek Life Greek Life on campus is very active and they are always up to something different everyday. It is a great way to meet friends and socialize with different age groups.
Bang for the buck To get the most bang for your buck, one must be responsible and understand the different ways to buy something. For example, many students believe they must buy their books from the campus bookstore when their are other options. I buy my books online with Amazon, EBay or other websites to purchase your books. You will by far get the biggest bang for your buck if you purchase books this way.
What to do for fun This college offers many activities for students to do in their free time. I always get involved with the student activities on the front lawn such as laser tag, tie-dying and other exciting activities. I also am involved with the intramural teams they offer as well.
Food and Dining Food and Dining at Valdosta State has a wide variety of choices to choose from. You can either grab a bite to eat at the cafeteria's or use your Blazer Bucks to eat at Moe's, Papa John's etc.
Dorm Life The dorm life can be very exciting. Always get involved with what is happening at your dorm by asking your Resident Advisor and other hall mates.
Academic Rigor The academic programs offered at Valdosta State can be difficult or easy for anyone. It all depends on how much one knows and how much time they put into their studying for a class. Always ask for help if you are struggling because Valdosta State offers many programs to help students such as the Student Success Center. This reference helps any student in need of extra guidance.
Tips for prospective students To be a great student at Valdosta State University, one must be able to utilize their time management. Studying is the most important tool when being apart of a college. It should always be first and never procrastinate when it comes down to studying for a test or completing a project. When first given the assignment, one should complete or start it the day they were given the assignment. It will always keep you one step ahead of everyone else. Another tip is to be involved! So many students get burnt out their first year of college because they think all they can do is study. When being involved, it allows one to meet new people and get their mind off of the books.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is a great school to attend. It gives many students the opportunity to become the person they want to be. They are helpful to any student that attends their school.

Categories Comments What to do for fun This is Valdosta's biggest problem. The town of Valdosta is absolutely boring. People are always getting drunk simply because there is nothing else to do. That is why finding some good friends is essential, otherwise you are going to die from boredom. However, there is something that makes up for it. Valdosta is literally a 10 minute drive from Florida. Me and my friends would always go to Jacksonville, because it was only a two hour drive. If you can afford the gas money, it is definitely a good idea to go every once in a while.
Food and Dining The dining halls are TERRIBLE! The food there is looks and tastes terrible. Rarely they will actually have something worth eating, but other than that, stay away. Especially from the pizza. However, the other food from campus is really good. They have a papa johns, a moes, chick-fil-a, nathans hot dogs, and a few more. Mostly very good quality, but expensive. Overall, if you aren't rich, then you aren't going to enjoy the food that much.
Dorm Life The dorms at Valdosta are usually very lively, with events happening constantly. While some of the dorms may not be very aesthetically pleasing, they still usually have stuff going on. The only reason I wouldn't give the dorm life a 5 star is because some of the people that live there mess things up for everyone. Just be careful not to do anything stupid and you will be fine.
Academic Rigor Valdosta in itself isn't too bad with this, but the professors are. Sometimes you might need a specific class that only has one time, but you need another class that only has that one time also. Most professors are unwilling to help you out, but it isn't unheard of. Overall it isn't too bad, but still not good.
Tips for prospective students The very first thing you should do is find some friends. While Valdosta is a nice campus, there isn't much to do. The only big thing to do in town is go to the bars. Otherwise everyone just goes to Florida. Also, be careful which professors you choose, because some of them will ruin your year.
In three sentences Valdosta has a great campus and a great location. However, they do need to work on some of their programs. All-in-all it is a great school, as long as you are fine with the heat and gnats.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck VSU is less expensive than some of the larger big name universities in the state, while still offering a large campus with a wide variety of students. Fees are going up every year, but so is the quality of the facilities/services.
What to do for fun Hang out on the Front Lawn (playing sports, doing homework, eating, working on your tan, or walking your pets), go to events sponsored by organizations (frequently free), athletic events (all students get in free), and find a good group of friends to hang out with.
Food and Dining VSU has a great variety of dining options. There are 2 cafeterias with healthy (and not so healthy) options, 2 convenience stores, and multiple big name eateries (such as Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Papa John's, and more) that all come as part of the meal plan. On weekends and during the summer, hours are limited, but during the school year there are options at all hours of the day.
Dorm Life There are different types of dorms (brand new suite style ones as well as older traditional ones), but all of them can be personalized and made to feel like home. All dorms have great opportunities to meet other people (as well as eat free food and earn free stuff!).
Academic Rigor There are easy teachers and hard teachers, but overall, the faculty expect a lot out of students-especially when it comes to research. Although teachers have high expectations, they are almost always willing to help in any way they can.
Tips for prospective students I recommend getting involved with a large organization on campus-whether an athletic team, music ensemble, or greek life organization--the bigger the better. Large organizations allow you to express your interests while meeting a wide variety of people.
In three sentences VSU offers a great combination of athletics, academics, social life, and community service. The campus is beautiful, the students and teachers are friendly, and the food is actually pretty good. VSU's student body is culturally, linguistically, academically, and socially diverse-allowing everyone to fit in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is not much to do in the city of Valdosta other than the club, bars and Wild Adventures Theme Park. The next best this is to take the drive a few exits down to Tallahassee, Fl. Or you could drive about a hour to the beach in Jacksonville.
Food and Dining The food and dinning halls were great. Most people prefer ed Hopper Dining to Palms but they had their specialties. Hopper was open late nights until about 7 am, and by that time Palms was opening up. So there was always somewhere to get late night snacks.
Dorm Life Dorm life is always what you make. My dorm experince was great. The dorm that I stayed in was like a hotel. i stayed in a suite with three other girls and we got along great. There was a shower and bathroom in our suite, but some of the dorms (freshman dorms) do have community bathrooms and showers. Also our visitation was like no other, there was not a set time that we could not have visitation, i could have visitors of opposite sex as long as I wanted as long as they were not there past 24 hours at a time!!!
Academic Rigor There is a no tolerance rule that VSU applies very rigorously. The professors are very willing and capable and there are also student tutors who do not mind answering questions.
Tips for prospective students Come in with an open mind, and talk to all the upperclassmen that you can.
In three sentences I can confidently say that my experience here at VSU has been great. There is a lot of diversity and southern hospitality, both from the students as well as the professors. All in all, I would recommend Valdosta State to anyone who wants to experience life outside of the fast paced life in the city.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a lot of school programs I can participate in. Moreover, many of students in Valdosta State University plan special festivals and events by themselves.
Food and Dining I am not fed up with the food in the school cafeteria if I eat there every week. The prices are also reasonable as I think.
Dorm Life Dorm is pretty safe and well organized in terms of system. However, the charge for board is expensive as I see.
Academic Rigor In my view, this is up to each professor's teaching process. Most professors try to listen to students' questions and their troubles sincerely. However, plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
Tips for prospective students Just breathe! You don't need to worry too much about future things. Think of what you can do in college and what you can gain in school education.

Clubs and Activities I never learned much about clubs. I have only heard wind of about two clubs. This is something I would like to know more about.
What to do for fun Wild adventures is really fun to go to. On the plus side, its only like fifteen minutes away. Going to the dollar movies or the regular theater is nice. And bowling is really fun as well.
Food and Dining Food and dining is so-so! While the on-campus restaurants are pretty good, the food in the dining halls could be stepped up a little.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty good. I lived in one of the recently ungraded ones, so I absolutely LOVED it!
Academic Rigor So far my classes have been challenging. I have had a few classes that were less challenging and the teachers were really laid back. The teaching staff is very good as well. I have only had one teacher that I didn't really mesh with.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know what you are getting into. Visit the campus and make sure its something you like. There isn't much to do in Valdosta, so make sure you don't regret this as an educational choice.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's this thing by the front lawn, I can't even explain it, but don't step on it or they say you won't graduate..helpful right?
Bang for the buck I absolutely love college, if you can get your priorities straight I guarantee college will be the best time of your life. Being only responsible for you is one of the best feelings in the world because when you graduate you'll have to find a job to pay off those loans, and pay for that apartment and pay for this and pay for that and grow up and yada yada bing bang, so just..live, do your very best, but LIVE
What to do for fun You don't even have to go out to have fun, seriously. However, if you do choose to go out, try to go out with the right people, it can make or break your night.
Food and Dining The food is delicious the majority of the time...well...the food is delicious when we first get there, and everytime we're about to go home, otherwise its pizza burgers and pasta everyday...or a lovely salad or sandwich
Dorm Life I loved living in the dorms, I hated sharing a room. There's always somebody to talk to,hang out with, or even share clothes with. You'll probably hate your roommate half the time though.
Academic Rigor The actual work isn't all that hard, but making the adjustment from having someone tell you to do your homework, to a professor who could really care less can turn algebra into calculus hell, study first, party later.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe they have cops driving around all the time.
Greek Life The deltas and AkAs are not noticed as much as other sororities.
What to do for fun If you like to club or go to the bars there is definitely a lot of that going on. They have a lot of little clubs to join but as for me, my singing and recording interests are not tended to.
Food and Dining There are not many choices for food on campus. The dining halls are not a good choice for people who don't eat or is allergic to pork and beef.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a really great experience, there's no curfew so you really get to explore being out of momma's house and learn an use everything that you where taught as a child.
Academic Rigor They have some pretty awesome teachers here that will work with you down to the last day. Then there are the ones who let you experience the real world the moment you walk into their classroom. No Mercy.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused and do not get behind many professors here are hard. Also, come only if you enjoy the laid back lifestyle, if you are a city girl/boy Valdosta is not for you.
In three sentences Valdosta State University has a beautiful campus. This school offers great majors and opportunities. Valdosta is just a little country for me, no where for my interests to take flight.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's a dedicated campus police force ready to help out whenever they can, as well as emergency posts all over campus.
Greek Life I'm not involved in Greek life, but VSU offers a lot in that category, sorority and frat houses right outside the main campus.
Clubs and Activities There are more clubs than you'll know what to do with, I'm involved in only one myself, but there's one for whatever interests you.
Great for these types of students Any kind as far as I can tell, VSU is a liberal arts college, but you can also receive your first few years of an engineering or computer science degree here as well before transferring to another school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Go to the football games if you can.
What to do for fun Go to football and soccer games, hang out with friends. Things you'd normally do.
Food and Dining I personally like the food here, but honestly a lot of people here complain about the quality and selection. Bear in mind, it's not a 5 star restaurant, you will get all the nutrition you need.
Dorm Life It's fair,
Academic Rigor The first 2 years aren't too bad, but when you get to your junior year, you'll need to put your nose to the grindstone.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to study, it's not High School. It's important to have a high GPA for your first few years there, after that it gets difficult to raise it.
In three sentences For the RETP Ga Tech transfer program, I think Valdosta State is a great school. It prepares you with all the skills you will need, and the teachers are good at what they do. I just wish they would offer some classes year round.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always policemen patrolling. At night, if you do not feel safe walking alone, you can use one of the Emergency Phone Booths set up all over campus to ask for help.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In West Hall (the hall you see on almost every advertisement for this college) there is the school seal in bronze on the floor, and it is said that if you step on it before you graduate, you will never do so from this college.
What to do for fun There is never a day at VSU when there is nothing going on. There are always parties on the front lawn or a giveaway in the courtyards.
Food and Dining The food her is all freshly prepared and most of the fruits and vegetables are locally grown.
Dorm Life I have not been to other dorms outside of mine, but where I am it is very fun! We have activities and everyone knows each other. We are all friends.
Academic Rigor It depends completely on what you are taking.
Tips for prospective students The ONLY problem here is that it rains and it is hot, but what else would you expect in Southern Georgia?

Categories Comments Campus Safety Unsure about this area, since I read about things being stolen in the VSU Spectator (school newspaper) a lot.
Greek Life Big part of campus. Greeks throw parties, have step shows, and have cookouts, plus more.
Clubs and Activities Very diverse in this area.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During homecoming week, since I've attended here, Wild Adventures is shut down for a night just for VSU students and it's free. They have a sidewalk chalk competition, lip sync competitions, and we have an unusually high number of fashion shows and groups.
Bang for the buck I'm really a stickler when it comes to my money so I would like a choice in what it's going towards so, all the fees that VSU and most schools have is not a plus for me.
What to do for fun Students get into all sporting events free, so there is that. Their are campus activities galore throughout the year which are really fun and different. Also you could do things around town like go to the movies.
Food and Dining Food is okay in taste and great in variety and amount. As a freshman you probably will be overwhelmed and have multiple plates, until you realize that you can't and don't want to eat it all.
Dorm Life I had an excellent time when I lived in the Residence Halls. The downfalls that I experienced were neighbor problems and a lack of focus.
Academic Rigor For a Biology major, like myself, classes are fairly difficult and my adviser promises worse to come. Other majors that I heard were difficult were Nursing, Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Psychology, and Economics.
Tips for prospective students If you want to attend VSU, study hard and prepare yourself with great study skills and habits. Also if coming to VSU, learn about the campus, because you can easily sign up for a class that's at the opposite end of campus, where you need a bus to reach it.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is the school for you if you enjoy frequent activities, kind students, and a great education. This is a diverse school with many people, but we are a tight knit group. There are many opportunities to make friends through a multitude of clubs and programs.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The dining halls are actually good but they close way to early for me. You can also begin to get pretty fed up with the food quickly even though they try to change the menu up.
Dorm Life I lived in two halls my first semester and the only downfall was having to share the bathroom it can get somewhat ugly in there but it was fine other wise.
Academic Rigor I am a first year student and I only took twelve credits my first semester and it was a breeze. Only thing you have to remember is to show up to class, even if the professor says you don't have to, and also keep up with the work.

What to do for fun The mall and the movies are closeby and there are a variety of clubs/bars to go to. On campus, organizations host a lot of different activities for students....and the CORE center offers awesome outdoor group excursions as well as camping and boating gear for you to rent. Wild Adventures Theme Park has rollercoasters, and Valdosta is also a short drive to other cities like Tallahassee and Jacksonville and the beach.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is guarded by campus security and VSU police, not to the point where an officer is watching your every single move, but they are around enough to keep the campus safe around the clock. Either way i wouldn't recommend anyone to walk around alone at night on or off campus. you never know what could happen.
Greek Life Greek life at VSU is very interesting as well as entertaining. you never know when a sorority or fraternity is gonna come around a corner strolling or loudly chanting. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My freshman year at VSU, a couple friends and i discovered this big tree on our way to the gym, so we decided to climb it and take pictures in it and document it in our best freshman year memories. Every time i pass this tree i remember that day. I would say that VSU's front lawn is the best location on campus. once or twice a year we have a movie on the lawn and many other exciting events.
Bang for the buck Valdosta State University, Home of the Blazers is overall an awesome school! The professors are pretty easy going and understanding and the campus is absolutely gorgeous. The Florida palm trees and relaxing front lawn says it all in one look. Here you can get the job done and have a good time. They are all campus accessible so your classes are pretty close. Some have kitchens and private bathrooms along with private room. It varies depending on the hall you choose.
Academic Rigor If you study at least an hour for every class separately each week, you should be fine. good notes are important as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As there were things that have happened throughout the course of the semester that made me feel a little on the scared side, VSU is a very safe campus. There are always campus security around campus as well in dorm buildings at night. There are emergency buttons all throughout campus that connects you to 911 at the push of a button if you feel unsafe. As for the safety in the dorm building, they have a very good system. You can only get into the building if you swipe your card and then you must stop at the front desk and show them your color card (each dorm building has a different color so they know where you live).
Greek Life I am not a part of greek life at Valdosta but there are many choices for students who are considering it. At VSU, you can always see greek activities going on. Everyone who is a member of a fraternity or sorority on campus seems to love it.
Clubs and Activities Valdosta State University offers over 200 clubs, ranging from religious clubs, to intramural sports clubs. There is most definitely something for everything. If you do not find a club that interests you, you can also easily create that club at the university.
Great for these types of students Valdosta State University is a great school for students who want to get the big university feel at a low price. The school is not too big, or too small, so it is perfect for students who like something right in the middle. If you are interested in warm weather all year round, as well as being an hour away from a Florida beach, VSU is for you.
Bang for the buck In my opinion, as a student at Valdosta you will definitely get your bang for the buck. You get the feel of being at a very large university, but don't pay NEARLY as much as the students going to UGA, for example.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do on campus. The university clubs are always having fun activities throughout the year that all students are encouraged to go to. If you are not interested in those, everything in the city of Valdosta is in very close proximity, which makes it extremely easy to find fun things to do.
Food and Dining The food and didning would have to be my least favorite thing about campus. It is not that the food is bad, because its not. Its actually pretty good. It is just that you do not have many choices. Also, the operation hours of the dining halls are extremely bad. They close pretty early, which doesn't give you a lot of choices when planning your meals. Lastly, if you enjoy eating healthy, there are not many choices here on campus for you.
Dorm Life The dorm life at Valdosta is one of my favorites. I was lucky enough to be able to live in the Georgia dorm building, which is a semi-suite; meaning, you have your own room and share a bathroom with one other person. As a freshman, you have many choices in which dorm you would like to live in. If you apply early enough, you will get your first choice. If you put it off till later, you may end up with your second. Either way, none of the dorms are bad.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at Valdosta is much harder than i expected before getting here. The professors are very strict, but that is expected since this is no longer high school. You will learn and you will be challenged at this university.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that you do not assume Valdosta is an easy university just because it is not Ivy League. It is Extremely different from high school. It will take some getting used to but be sure to manage your time wisely.
In three sentences As a freshman who just completed my first semester at Valdosta State University, I am very pleased with how things played out. In all, I have enjoyed everything about this University, including the other students who attend.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety is not too bad but it is not that great either. There have been recent murders, robberies, and fires near the campus. Even though the city is fairly small, there are crimes everywhere.
Clubs and Activities I can say that there are so many clubs that you will never get bored! I was once a member of the ASL, American Sign Language Club. They made sure to show awareness of the Deaf community which was both informational and yet fun at the same time. Just choose an interest of yours and they just might have it! If not, there are a few clubs that have just started so if you are a leader, you can definitely start your own club of your interest.
What to do for fun Because Valdosta is a small city, there is not much to do but to go to bar and grill, bars, and clubs. There are a few shops downtown and a one-story mall. The bars have good pricing for drinks and one bar and grill has pool tables so you can play for $8 per hr.
Food and Dining I have gotten sick a few times just from the food in the cafeteria, but it could just be my stomach. To take safety measures, I make sure to get Blazer Bucks so that I can go to the new Chick-Fil-A in the Student Union, the Nathan's, Starbucks and more.
Dorm Life Sometimes the dorm life is not always so nice. The dorms are not made the same. Some are one room with community bathrooms, suite styles, and one room with a bathroom and kitchen so the best ones are the ones that are filled the most. The internet connection is relatively slow in the dorms so make sure to buy an Ethernet cord or go to the library to have a better connection. There are plenty of fire alarm drills or random times that the fire alarms go off and could be as early as four o'clock in the morning, so if you are sleep or in the shower, they make sure everyone heads outside in a hasty manner. Other than that, it is fairly convenient to every building.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the core classes will always require to do plenty of assignments in order to prepare you for your career. There are a few classes that are quite rigorous, but there is a tutoring center called Student Success Center that you may want to check out; or even ask help from your professor or a classmate that is doing fairly well in the class to help.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to study, study, study! It is easy to get distracted due to all of the activities on campus, but if you slack off you tend to stay in that lifestyle. Remember time management is important.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful! They have done a lot of expansions since the three years I have been here. There are a few professors that are unfair, strict, and do nothing but lectures here and there but there is always that one professor in your major.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The front lawn at VSU is absolutely gorgeous and the major hang out spot for students. Students can go and play sports, and just lay down and read a book. The environment is great.
Bang for the buck VSU is definitely worth the amount paid. Tuition is reasonable, and the amount of extras that you gain is a bargain.
What to do for fun VSU has a wide range of activities available that make being a student at VSU not just about being a student. There are numerous intramural sports including flag football, indoor soccer, and basketball. Also, the Recreation Center has a complete gym, indoor track, indoor swimming pool, racquetball, basketball, and an indoor rock wall. A zip-line course is also available behind the Recreation Center.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is an amusement park in town but is closed during the winter. According to the locals, the best things to do there are hunting, fishing, and riding on dirt roads. There is a mall in town and a big city close by. There are lots of sports events during the fall.
Food and Dining There are several different styles and choices for dining. However, I myself am a vegetarian and found that most places did not offer a great selection for this picky veggie.
Dorm Life The Dorms are nice and most of them are new or just renovated. In regards to size, they are fair.
Academic Rigor If you're looking for a good school that is not as competitive as UGA or GA Tech then this school is good for you. There is still that air of competitiveness, which is present at all schools, but the students are a lot more relax about it.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to visit the campus before applying there. Even if you're only semi- looking into this school, the campus is gorgeous and is worth the trip out there. Only 2 hours from the beach!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The activities provided at the school are free for all VSU students which is great. The rec center is free for student to work out and rock climb. A free walk or bike ride through Drexel Park is always nice.
What to do for fun There are many activities offered by the school every week which help you escape the boredom. There is also the rec center where you can go rock-climbing and sign up for various sport related activities. I enjoy hanging out on the front lawn, playing frisbee or soccer.
Food and Dining There are two main dining halls at VSU, Hopper and Palms, and also small restaurants, like Moe's, pizza, and Pinkberry. They have good food with a nice environment. There is also many places to eat along Baytree Rd so there is no worries about a shortage of good food.
Dorm Life Georgia would be the best dorm available on campus in my opinion. You get your own separate bedroom but you have to share a bathroom. If you want more of the college experience (a shared room and community bathroom) the other dorms on campus provide just that.
Academic Rigor There are great teachers and bad teachers everywhere, you just have to pick the right one. I would recommend going on ratemyprofessor.com to see what other people say. It's a good way to ensure that you can handle the professor and the class that you take.
Tips for prospective students Go and do as many activities as you can like watch a movie at the Union Center, join clubs, and maybe join an intramural sport. It's a good way to meet people and it's free so you don't have to spend hardly any money. Just watch out for the bar scene if you're not into that because that's what a lot of people do.
In three sentences Valdosta State University is very much a school environment in which your classes are close to your dorm rooms. Everything is within walking distance or just a shuttle ride away. There are activities offered every week which are very entertaining.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The VSU police department has been very helpful in assisting me when I needed it. They regularly educate students on safety an are always available and easy to contact. We have locations all around campus that are call boxes in case you are in need of their assistance. The campus is also extremely well lit. I feel completely comfortable walking to my car after a late night class. Most of the time, there is a VSU police officer somewhere in my eye sight and they have even offered to walk me to my car if it is parked far away. VSU also offers a variety of self defense classes for men and women, plus the Women and Gender Studies department often will offer female safety classes to avoid situations and educate women what to do if they fall into them.
Greek Life There is a large number of Fraternities and Sororities available.
Clubs and Activities VSU has so many clubs and activities. It is so easy to get involved, and they even have a building that will assist you in finding something that you are interested in.
Great for these types of students Valdosta State is a great college for someone living in the Atlanta or surrounding areas that wants to be as far away from home, but still wants in-state tuition. It is also one of the few schools in Georgia that offers a pre-dental program for those interested in becoming a dentist. And, the Harley Langdale College of Business has been nationally recognize as one of the best business schools to attend. Valdosta is a small town; however, so anyone that is looking for the big city might not get what they are looking for.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year we have The Happening. This is a marketing event for local businesses to come to VSU and educate students on the products and services available to them in the surrounding area. Everyone on campus loves to go to The Happening because they get to see what Valdosta businesses have to offer, and because they always give away a lot of really neat (and free) stuff!
Bang for the buck Valdosta State University is an excellent school to get your education. And, you can have a lot of fun around campus too.
What to do for fun Valdosta State University has so many activities to be involved in. We get e-mails daily from student organizations, and weekly from the office of Student Organizations to keep us up to date on the activities going on around campus. We have many fraternity and sororities, clubs, and our student recreation center offers many intramural activities to participate in. I play softball each season, and regularly do the ropes course with the student recreation center. They are eager to teach, accept beginners, and challenge experienced students. We also have a variety of music programs available to non music majors. My personal favorite is our nationally recognized SIFE team from the College of Business Administration. There is so much to do on campus, and they make it easy to get involved.
Food and Dining Valdosta State University has a large selection of eateries on campus. They continue to add more based on student demand. We regularly receive surveys about campus life, and they really take our wants into consideration. My favorite place to eat on campus is The Loop. You can even use your meal plan to buy Starbucks in the Student Union!
Dorm Life I lived in Patterson Hall my freshman year at Valdosta State University. I'm very happy to have lived here as a part of the college experience. My only wish is that they would not have separated this co-ed dorm into a female side and a male side. There were a lot of rules and regulations about having visitors, which did not make me feel like I was living away from home on my own. However, the overall experience was very pleasant.
Academic Rigor I have been extremely satisfied with my academic studies. Professors are very eager to teach, and always available to help. I love how knowledgeable my professors are in their field of study. But, most of all I love their open minds and eagerness for debate and conversation. They not only allow us to learn from them, but we are encouraged to learn from each other as well.
Tips for prospective students I recommend that all students experience on-campus living. Living in the dorms helped me adjust to moving away from home, knowing that everyone around me was doing the same thing. Also, make sure you take a look around campus. The tours given to prospective students can seem very fast, but make sure you take the time to walk around and explore a little bit. VSU has a wonderful campus with many things that students are looking for. Make sure to take the time to stop and look around. Ask other students questions as you explore. VSU has an amazing community of students who are always willing to help.
In three sentences VSU is a college is a small town that really focuses on the community of the students. The college is a large part of the local economy, so many businesses cater to college student needs. VSU makes you feel like you are at home, even when you are away.

Categories Comments What to do for fun When it's a beautiful day the best thing to do it hang out at the front lawn. You can get a tan or play ultimate Frisbee with other students. There are also always activities on campus to join in on.
Food and Dining Both dining halls offer an array of food so you always have choices. There are also great restaurants like Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, Moes, and Pinkberry for when you want something else.
Dorm Life All the dorms are well maintained with great RA's and other RH staff. The lobby becomes the ideal place to hang out and meet new people.
Academic Rigor The teachers expect a certain level of excellence of the students but most of them don't bury you in work. You know what you are expected to do and should do it.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the tutoring opportunities and get involved! College will be super boring if you don't go out and met other people.
In three sentences VSU has a beautiful campus with awesome Spanish architecture. Most of the class sizes are small enough to get one-on-one teaching. The professors are very knowledgeable in their subject.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are all sorts of clubs and organizations on campus, you just have to go after them. You are an adult now, they won't come to you.
Food and Dining There are lots of places to fuel up if you're hungry. There are also BlazerBucks which is tax-free credit that we as VSU students can use to buy food from the various restaurants on campus if you aren't in the mood for the cafeteria food. If you are in the mood for a meal, then Palms Dining and Hopper Dining are the places to be.
Dorm Life Dorm life is what you make it. It is certainly not what you see on T.V. and in movies. If you are very active, you hardly ever see your roommate. Also, don't worry the showers are separated and make sure you bring shower shoes!
Academic Rigor Don't walk into ANY class thinking you already know what's going on. A lot of times, students walking in thinking they just learned certain material, learn very quickly how wrong they are once they see their first exam results. The professors are not here to baby us, you want the A, then you have to earn it.
Tips for prospective students Get to know the layout. Some of the buildings are sort of odd. So once you get your schedule, walk around and find your classes.
In three sentences VSU is very much the college town. Excellence in everything is pretty much the standard here. This is the D2 school with a D1 spirit.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Wild Adventures is a theme park that is located about 15 minutes from campus. We even get to go one day during Homecoming week in October.
Food and Dining The dining halls are great. There is always 5 different things to choose from. There are also fast food places in the Student Union, which is right on campus.
Dorm Life Dorms are dorms. I stayed on campus for my first year (it's required). The dorms are within 2-3 minutes walking of classes. Which means that you don't have to wake up until 5 minutes before class! Definitely worth living in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Don't think that because it's a small university that classes are going to be super easy. There will be some classes that you don't have to do much for, but there are others that you'll stay up all night studying for.
Tips for prospective students Don't think that because it is a small campus that there is no fun to be had. If you want it, you can find it.
