Nashville is music city, so there is plenty to do outside of campus. There are also plenty of organizations and events on campus to get into.

Definitely do the Nashville touristy things if you have never been. Visit the various areas of nashville as well. Inside the campus: Fraternity parties are a must. Extracurricular Activities. Vanderbilt football and basketball and baseball games. Ummmmm typical college-lifestyle stuff. Walk around campus, do homework outside in the grass. Play frisbee. Etc. etc. Check out the Centennial Park just across the street from campus.

Nashville has a great student life to offer. Although, Nashville isn't a very big city (#25 in the USA), it does have a big city feel in a smaller city. We have the Tennessee Titans, Nashville Predators, VU Commodores, and not to mention...it's MUSIC CITY, USA!!! It's very likely that you'll spot Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, or Nicole Kidman at the local Starbucks. Also, actors from the show Nashville are frequently seen just hanging around town as well.

There is always Frat Row, but there is soooo much more to campus than greek life. Vanderbilt has literally hundreds of studnet organizations that cover all of your interests - religious to political, cultural to major specific, service based to just for the arts. Speaking of the arts, there is always a performing-arts show coming up on campus. Vanderbilt has a ridiculous number of A-Capella groups, including the world-famous Melodores, tons of multicultural dance groups, and even a juggling team! If you find time to go do something fun, don't worry- there will always be something to do.

Vanderbilt is in the heart of Nashville, so if you like country music (or live music of any kind), this is a great place to live. There are cheap or free shows every night of the week, and great historical music sites to check out as well (The Grand Ole Opry, anyone?). Grad students have access to the student rec center, as well as the outdoor rental equipment, so if you want to play tennis, go swimming, river kayak, camp or hike the Smoky Mountains, it's easy and cheap to spend a weekend away. Some of my favorite past-times (when I'm not studying) include contra-dancing, checking out the local foodtrucks, going to local art and history museums, and skating with the local roller derby rec league.

So much music in Nashville. I'm going to love getting into a bunch of bands none of my home friends have heard of and telling them all about the cool stars I saw play too.
