Great for these types of students

Great for those who want an easier transition from High School to College, or from regular life to going back to school. Many options on how to take your classes. Ultimately it depends on what your goals are.

    Tips for prospective students

*Get your application and orientation done quickly, so as to be part of the earlier registration. *Be prepared to take less important classes your first semester or two, because it is hard to get the basic English 101 and Math classes.

    Bang for the buck

In my case, no, because I am an out of state student, meanwhile for the in-state students, it is a relatively good price for what you are getting.

    Am enjoying being here

Not really, but that has nothing to do with the school. A good campus, with good teachers, I just don't want to be going to school in California. For a school it is good.

    Am learning a lot

Depending on the class, but in general. I am learning more in some classes than other, but that is true of all colleges.

    Campus Safety

i see campus safety all the time while i am on campus. they are always offering a smile. i find that their presence offers a personal safety when i am standing by myself waiting for a ride or walking in a parking lot alone

    Greek Life

    none

    Clubs and Activities

vvc offers a lot of clubs and sports. if you can think of it vvc has it. clubs are student run so the hard part is finding the club.

Great for these types of students

vvc is great for students looking for a trade or certificates and for deciding on a future college to trnsfer to or even staying and graduating from vvc. there are many opportunities available through this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

i do not know of any unusual traditions or locations on campus.

    Bang for the buck

almost all the students are not paying big bucks to go here so there are no huge events such as concerts by big name artists. but there have been many accomplished people who speak, and the students have events such as in theatre like dances or plays and recitals by very talented people

    What to do for fun

there is a shopping center near by, that includes a theater and an array of restaurants and clothing stores.

    Food and Dining

for a small school, there are a few options mainly chinese, pizza, and burritos.

    Dorm Life

maybe one day there will be dorm life but at the moment this is a commuter school.

    Academic Rigor

not all classes are exceedingly hard but i have had a few that are challenging, but they always turn out to be the classes i learned the most in.

    Tips for prospective students

arrive early for parking. keep in contact with current professors, they are willing to help. the counselors are the best to talk to about making plans for school.

    In three sentences

victor valley college is a practical school to attend after high school graduation. an inexpensive choice to conclude a major. well-rounded student body.

Great for these types of students

Journalism, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts and any student with ambition and drive!

    Tips for prospective students

The amount you learn is directly connected with the amount of effort you are willing to make. Don't start anything you don't intend to finish. Most importantly, stay focused!

    Bang for the buck

VVC has many different opportunities for low income homes. The price per unit is a bit high for non residence of California or homes that do not meet low income eligibility. I currently have the BOGG waiver and it saves me hundreds every semester.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy going to school at VVC. The campus is beautiful. It is a great experience walking to class. The campus surrounds a lake which is inhabited by many ducks, geese, birds and other wildlife. It is a wonderful stress reliever to be able to sit and feed the ducks between classes. I have found the staff at VVC to be very friendly and helpful whenever I needed assistance.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot at VVC. I just finished my second semester and it's easy to see that the instructors really do want their students to succeed. I have personally utilized the writing and math labs. Both have tutors to help you when you are not in class.

Great for these types of students

I believe the school have a nursing program that are definitely great for student who are interested in the nursing field. There are also some great Biology teacher there. I know there is a Biology teacher that does research every year, so students who are interested in research should contact him in the science department.

    Tips for prospective students

Join club, get yourself out there, and do not be afraid to ask questions. You have to be able to navigate your school life around and finding supports wherever you can. Resources are all around you, you just have to take the initiative and go find them. If you're lost at something, don't be afraid to ask, people are willing to help as much as they can. And do not forget to go see and counselor every semester to keep your educational plan in check.

    Bang for the buck

Um. Its not very expensive to attend Victor Valley College. I mean it does require a great amount of money but its nothing compare to a real university. Classes are only about $26 per unit I believed? Even so, I think its not that expensive.

    Am enjoying being here

I would definitely say that my time here at Victor Valley College is awesome. I am in the Puente Program which support students who are interested in transferring, and I am an officer for this club as well. I've made so much friends that share a common purposes; friends who want to be a doctor, bio-engineering, researcher, chemist, computer science, and so much more. I love surrounding myself with people who want to do something with their life, and that help motivate me. I love competing with my friends every semester to see who would have a higher grade at the end. Its a blast for me attending here at Victor Valley College.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot here at Victor Valley College. I believe my writing skill has improve dramatically. Coming from a bilingual background, English was my worst subject. However, I took classes at Victor Valley College and my English skills have been improving ever since. I love writing essay where I could freely express myself, and I hate writing essay in high school. College just really open your eyes to a new world.

Great for these types of students

If your in the High Desert, and your not looking to immediatly go to a 4 year, like UCSBD, then VVC is the place to go. it is close, the classes are cheap, and the faculty is friendly. It also sure beats driving to Upland every other day.

    Tips for prospective students

When registering for classes, be quick. The classes go on a first come, first serve basis, and the class you need will surely be in hot demand. Know what your going to pick long before you pick it.

    Bang for the buck

compared to the last school I was at, a tech school, I am in shock at how cheap the classes are. 300 dollars for 4 classes, it's ridiculous. The quality of the education is great, so yes, it is a great value.

    Am enjoying being here

It's close to home, and quite a lot of the people from my Highschool are also attending. I enjoy the classes, the teachers are great, and I am having a great time.

    Am learning a lot

The school offers a wide variety of courses for just about any major. I am currently completing 2 years of gen ed, and VVC has only made it easy for me. Learning here for me is rather easy.

    Bang for the buck

The bang for the buck is like most Colleges not as much as a UC but it can be quite expensive sometime when there are book and classes they need to be payed for. The classes are quality though they will get you where you are going as long as they are transferable to where you are going.

    What to do for fun

We have ducks and geese at Victor Valley College if is fun when you bring bread from home you can feed them. There are also sports that can be watched when there is a game going on like football, softball and lots more.

    Food and Dining

We have a little cafeteria they have good food. It is enough to get through studying and to go from class to class.

    Dorm Life

    There are no Dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor happens more in labs then just in a regular class. That is what i see when i take my classes.

    Tips for prospective students

For those prospective students i would have to say make sure to show up on time to class on the first day. The earlier the better. The classes are very crowed the first couple of weeks. After time though students stop coming. Also don't give up on a class just try your hardest and ride it out.

    In three sentences

Victor Valley College is a great school if you just starting out in College or if you are continuing school. Victor Valley College has great programs like its nursing programs, agriculture, firefighting program, and plenty more. Victor Valley College has very nice scenery it’s a great place to study very quiet.

    Campus Safety

most people on campus either hang out in the library to get work done or are walking to get somewhere. most people seem to keep to themselves or their group, and there is an occasional patrol officer asking students for id cards and what their business is there. i have also seen small towers that, when you push the button, an officer will be at your location within a couple minutes.

    Greek Life

    no greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

there are quite a few clubs offered, but meeting times are hard to create because people have schedules all over the place. i personally have not seen any clubs dedicated to the arts though; it would be nice to see a theater or dance club.

Great for these types of students

this school is crowded with middle-aged people trying to get an education. many night classes are offered for those who have kids at home.

    Bang for the buck

the school has some great teachers and faculty who are more than eager to help you with any questions you may have, but you have to approach them. the services, such as financial aid and counseling, can be ridiculous to get in touch with because of the overcrowding. however, there are many classes to choose from and many wondeful teachers on campus.

    What to do for fun

there are a few good grass spots and tables to hang out at, but if you're looking for entertainment, you won't find it by just walking around. the school has put on plays and art shows and rallys, so keep your eyes open for posters. the mall is about 10 to 20 minutes away from the college, and 5 minutes away are some restaurants, stores, a gym, and a movie theater.

    Food and Dining

there is a small selection of food on campus; your choice is basically a hamburger or orange chicken. however, 5 minutes away is a larger selection of fast food and restaurants that have more bang for your buck.

    Dorm Life

i live in the next town over about 20 minutes away from the school, and i don't believe vvc offers housing. however, i would talk to a counsler or look on the website.

    Academic Rigor

keep in mind that this is still college, so time management is essential to your time here. make sure you are committed to your classes or you may suffer in the long run.

    Tips for prospective students

have a backup plan on what classes you want to take; they fill up quickly. also, get to a counsler as soon as you can if you plan to transfer and not just taking classes to pass the time. there is also a handy website, ratemyprofessors.com, that gives student reviews on teachers in different categories.

    In three sentences

overall, it's just like any other community college. there are a few problem areas, such as financial aid, but that's because the school is overcrowded. i have been content with my time here.

    Bang for the buck

it is totally worth it to come here. as of today, a unit costs $36. most classes are 3 units. that's only $108 for a class. if you were to go to a university as an entry level freshman, one class would be an easy $500.

    What to do for fun

there are a lot of clubs on this campus to join. if you purchase your asb card, you can go to plays and games for free.

    Food and Dining

the food is ok. the dining hall, though, is really nice. it has a big, open space to accommodate a lot of students.

    Dorm Life

there really is no dorm life on this campus. it's a junior college. there are some apartments near the college, but none on campus.

    Academic Rigor

some classes can be very tough, while some aren't as tough. it really depends on the student. i've heard from some students that a lot of the courses here are really easy, but it also is the first level of college.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are thinking of transferring to a 4 year school after vvc, make sure you are on the right track. talk with your counselor about your intended major and s/he will help you achieve that goal.

    In three sentences

victor valley college, or vvc, is a great school. if you want to go to college, yet can't afford expensive university fees, then this is a great school. the teachers are friendly, the staff is wonderful, and the students are willing to learn.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

I do not know, I don't eat at the college (site wouldn't let be submit review without rating this section with stars).

    Dorm Life

    No dorms

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for waiting lists, especially for those going into booming fields, like the medical field. Try to find college books from other sources because this college charges a lot more than other places. I usually can get mine cheaper at amazon.com

    In three sentences

Not the greatest school, but good enough to get your education. Most of the instructors are very helpful and strive for student success. This college is cheaper than a university, which is good for those you can't afford a university,

Great school if you are going into nursing

    Food and Dining

    never ate here

    Tips for prospective students

Do not rely on the counselor to give you the correct ed plan. I did and it put me a year behind, and i took several unnecessary classes

    In three sentences

For a basic college ed. this school is fine, but certain classes are only available once a year. If you are not on the top of the list you can't get in due to availability.

    What to do for fun

The Victor Valley Mall is a 10 minute drive from the college. There's three cinemas near the college. There's also several parks nearby. 24 Hour fitness Gym is next to one of the Cinemark in Jess Ranch Plaza which is a 2 minute drive from the college.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria in the campus. There are several fast food joints and sit down restaurant to choose from just around the vicinity of the college. Victor Valley Mall is a 10 minute drive from the college and several restaurant within and around the mall. Jess Ranch Plaza is a rock away from the college and offers a bunch of restaurants too.

    Academic Rigor

Victor Valley College is high on integrity, honesty and dignity. It can be difficult sometimes but it is so worth it. Getting an A cause you didn't cheat is more rewarding and you feel really accomplished ( a real booster). The college will expel you from any derogatory actions.

    Tips for prospective students

Victor Valley College wants the same thing you do... quality education. Be serious in entering college and always aim high because they have passionate educators that really want you to be successful both in your studies and in your career so be ready to be challenge.

    Campus Safety

The campus appears to be pretty secure and safe. I have never felt like there was a problem, however there are a lot of sketchy individuals that go there, so don't let your guard down.

    Clubs and Activities

There seems to be several clubs and activities going on, but anything good seems hard to get into.

Great for these types of students

It can be a good hang out or place to meet new people. It is fun to have classes with so many different individuals.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing that I can think of.

    Bang for the buck

The school is continuing to raise its prices each year. I just registered and it once again has gone up 10 dollars a unit. That does not sound like much but it really adds up. I used to be able to go full time for less than 300 dollars not I'm about to hit 500 bucks with only taking 10 units. The education is getting worse and the school is getting more expensive. You are definitely not getting your moneys worth.

    What to do for fun

The school does put on many plays and performances that are not half bad. If you have an ASB card (Which they pretty much force you to get) you get into many of the shows for free.

    Food and Dining

There is not a very large food selection and usually does not look appetizing.

    Dorm Life

I do not think they even have dorms. It is a community college, so I am currently attending there while working and living at home.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not too bad, if you can find a decent teacher. Some teachers are only there to collect a pay check, but if you get one of those few that love their job then it is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Bite your tongue and stay strong. Get through school as quickly as you can and move on to something better. It is just a community college and a stepping stone to a better school and better career.

    In three sentences

This school is close to home, but far too expensive for the meager education they provide. Not enough classes, with competent teachers. Too hard to receive tuition assistance and help, unless you are completely poor.

    Tips for prospective students

tips i am thinking to reconcile are not blunt. i cant think of any tips at the moment.

    Bang for the buck

yes for me i can furnish the college expenses like books, supplies, but you cant expect to have everything given to you, you have to earn it.

    Am enjoying being here

you know i take note of what i do have right now and don't pay so much attention for the things i don't have, so yes i enjoy being here. there is no college that will have everything you want and if they do there are some restrictions. but for now i am pleases where i am at.

    Am learning a lot

being my first year here, i took several classes in which i learned many knew things that would benefit me in my learning experiences on my education journey. i am looking forward to having more knowledge fed to me in the years to come.

The school is nice and attempts to keep up to date with education advances. Good place to get your feet wet in college atmosphere. Plenty of resources to help get you to a university.

    Food and Dining

The pizza could be better. Over all it is pretty good.

    Academic Rigor

All of my instructors both on campus and online have taught the subject matter where if you put in the effort you can learn a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

The instructors are great, the EOPS program is outstanding, I have learned a lot here. I look forward to my last year here before going on to a BA program. Financial Aid needs to take more time and verify they have to right person before putting a hold on checks.

VVC has a nice library and a beautiful lake in the middle of campus. I enjoy sitting there while i am on my break because I get to feed the ducks.

    Bang for the buck

VVC has many different opportunities for low income homes. The prices are reasonable to me and there is lots of opportunities to get help to pay for school through Financial Aid, Scholarships and merits.

    What to do for fun

I know they have sports such as soccer, cross country , volleyball, and basketball. There are also clubs offer for college students. Work is also made available for college students.

Great for these types of students

The Victor Valley College is great for students with plans of starting at a small community college before transferring to a university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Mojave Fish Hatchery is only a short walk from the lower campus. It's actually just across the street.

    Bang for the buck

There's a good-sized pond throughout the middle of the campus filled with fish and quite a few ducks that are always wandering around.

    What to do for fun

The usual clubs and a sorority. There's also a fish hatchery nearby that always fun to check out if you're interested in that kind of thing.

    Food and Dining

I'm not really sure. They have the usual vending machines filled with snacks though.

    Dorm Life

We don't have a dorm life. No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

A full course load for the fall semester is 12 units or about three classes. Not too bad if you actually think about.

    Tips for prospective students

It's best to make appointments to see a counselor online. They don't always get back to you when you call and leave a message. It's important to remember that the Student Activities Center are closed on Fridays.

    In three sentences

The Victor Valley College seems okay. The faculty appear friendly and knowledgeable and more than willing to answer the questions of a new student. It doesn't apear to be too overly crowded yet the crowds aren't too small either just right.

    Campus Safety

If you have to take a night class or be there early in the morning always have a buddy with you. It gets really dark on campus and even though we have emergency phones there's still safety in numbers.

    What to do for fun

Different things happen through out the year you just gotta pay attention. For everyday thing you can hang out with friend in the SAC or play card games with some really awesome nerds. Other than that? Not much.

    Food and Dining

Majorly expensive. You'd be better to pack lunch from home if your gonna be there all day.

    Dorm Life

    There is no Dorm Life.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on your teacher. Some are super strict about stuff and others not so much. It's kinda like high school in that way.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions or stand in the huge financial aid line. It's not so bad if you get there early enough. Which sometimes means getting up at 3am to head over there and stand in line.

    In three sentences

Average. Definitely not the best but a good place to get back up on your feet or if your just starting out.

    What to do for fun

There isn't much to do here at VVC. It is more of a get to class, study in the library and go home type of campus. You can always relax and feed the ducks I guess.

    Food and Dining

Eating at the student center is okay, it never was appealing to me.

    Academic Rigor

Taking classes are fairly easy and to the point here. Like I mentioned before there are plenty of opportunities and programs to help you get that A on your transcripts.

    Tips for prospective students

Always keep up with your school work and never be late to class. Also if there is an occurrence that is stopping you from performing well in class always talk to your professor and visit them at their office hours. They are there to help at all times.

    In three sentences

VVC is a small campus located in the High Dessert. It is a great place with plenty of opportunity for well driven students who want to make something more of themselves. In many instances, there aren't many opportunities for the students to go straight into a 4-year university, making VVC and its city demographics a great school to help people get out there and chase their dreams.

There is 24hr security available day and night.

Great for these types of students

This college is for all types of students and it's enjoyably for everyone. For all parents there is a daycare available on campus which is wonderful!

    Bang for the buck

Over all the college is great. It has one of the top medical courses. Also there is a great computer graphics program here and the teacher are super nice. This college has a lot to offer. The only concern students have is the over crowding of our classes and not being able to get into what we need to so we can obtain our degrees. A lot of students take their general education classes and transfer over to Universities to finish off the rest of their classes needed.

    What to do for fun

we have The Native American Student Association club that holds pow wows in the main quad as well as student pep rally's for sports. Lots of School spirit! There are performances held by our own drama and music department.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty tasty. There is a little Chinese restaurant inside the cafeteria as well as regular food like hamburgers, sandwiches and chili fries. We also have a student coffee shop which is great for those early mornings when we're super exhausted.

    Dorm Life

there aren't any dorms offered at this college

    Academic Rigor

This school has a wide variety of classes for different majors. This is wonderful for all those who aren't exactly sure what major they want to go into.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are on top of your deadline dates and try talking to some of the teachers if a class is full. Don't give up!A lot of the teaching staff is willing to work with its students and they are very lenient.

    In three sentences

Victor Valley College has its ups and downs. The college is great but for all the medical major it is extremely difficult to get into any of the prerequisite classes needed. Everything goes by priority in the college so you have to keep your fingers crossed to get the classes you need.

    Campus Safety

I have noticed some campus security, but not so much that it makes you think there are problems. Just enough to feel safe in case you need someone.

    Clubs and Activities

Well, my forte is Baseball!! There are other clubs and activities, of course! The baseball program is also linked to a physical conditioning class and a weight lifting class. Not much time left in the day for any other activities, but that is how I love it!

Great for these types of students

Great college for anyone who is serious about starting their college education. You get a feel for the class structure and the experience of using your time wisely. I liked the fact that I could stay close to family and friends for at least another 2 years. It is an easy campus to get around, not overwhelming like a few other campus's I had visited.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Have not noticed anything unusual as of yet, but we do have a great pond with shade trees to sit, relax and study by.

    Bang for the buck

I am a baseball player and have been for the past 14 years. I felt that starting at a JC would benefit me more than going straight to a UC. I wanted to utilize every moment of school and work my way up through the ranks, so to speak. I am able to experience getting educated, bigger, stronger and more mature with students of my own age. I will be transferring out to a UC with my AA or AS degree. The counselors are always there for you as well as tutoring, should you need it.

    What to do for fun

In the High Desert you can catch a movie, across the street from the college. There are bowling alleys, miniature golf, waterfalls and lakes. If you like fishing, boating, or off road vehicles, there is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is pretty good!! The college is surrounded with restraunts and fast food places. Just 5 minutes from campus, you can be dining at Red Robin or grabbing something at McDonalds.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not applicable to this JC.

    Academic Rigor

I am taking 15 units, and am a baseball player for the VVC team. My day starts at 6am and ends at 5pm. I plan to get the majority of my classes out of the way in this first semester so that when the baseball season rolls around, I am not bogged down with too many classes. I do not want to put myself in a situation of failure! There is a variety of courses for whatever your major. I am majoring in Kiniesiology.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the comments of others keep you from attending VVC. I was leery as well, but have found out, the critics are wrong!

    In three sentences

Contrary to the criticism that VVC receives, so far I am very pleased. The staff has been very helpful and I feel assured of reaching my goal of a degree in 2 short years. My fellow students come from all over, not just the High Desert, and we are getting along well.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a great place to read or study, the library has plenty of room!

    What to do for fun

There is a huge lake in the center of the school where you can sit ( there are benches.) There also ducks that you can feed. There is a computer (MAC) room if you want to browse the internet, or get homework done. That requires an ASB card though.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of vending machines around campus for those in a hurry, and a cafeteria during certain hours to get food/drinks from.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-campus living. It is a community college.

    Academic Rigor

My specific professors do seem to actually care about what you learn and comprehend in class.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely say consider this college. You will solely have to depend on yourself for all information, and getting your financial aid done, but their website can be helpful with a good amount of what you need to get done.

    In three sentences

It's a beautiful school, with what seems to have good resources. My professors so far seem to be very informative, and have good attitudes. However, their staff as far as counseling, financial aid and such, needs a lot of improvement.

Victor Valley is a beautiful school; the consolers helped me a lot in guiding me to which classes I need to take. Campus Safety

Police station on lower campus, but I rarely if ever see them circulating. One shooting suicide Fall 2012, but no one else was hurt according to press. Generally feel safe attending evening events here. Parking lots well lit, with visible emergency call stations scattered throughout.

    Greek Life

Not very evident. It's about getting an inexpensive degree.

    Clubs and Activities

Wide range of on-campus clubs, including new vets' club. ASB seems quite active, putting on lots of activities in student activities building. The ASB card fee is cheap, equivalent to ticket price of one play, and the card gets free admission to events all semester.

Great for these types of students

Commuter students who want quality academics for cheap tuition, not looking for lots of frills like an on-campus medical facility or concert hall. Good nursing program & CIS dept. (Some of my profs are really quality individuals, an MD taught my Anatomy class, Physio PhD does bloodhound research with local sheriff.)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Upper & lower main campus separated by elevator tower plus zig-zag ramp, which is frequently used by runners going sideways for conditioning. There are occasional competitive dog breeding shows & adoption fairs, weekly farmers' markets, and infrequent athletic competitions like 5k's to add variety to academic activities. Many classes held at satellite campuses (Goodwill Silverado campus, local HS's) because of space constraints. Central lake is definitely unusual, with plenty of waterbirds to watch (goslings are darn cute in spring) and occasional turtle sightings (hoping to see hatchlings since I know where some turtle eggs were laid), but no people get in the water (duck poop = no thanks). Newly built public safety facility off campus houses EMT & fire safety curricula, kinda interesting.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty popular weight training facilities that I disovered during my first Weights class. Considering the fairly low tuition, academic bang for buck is good, but don't expect a cosmopolitan, big-city campus with those kind of amenities (like art gallery & museum). Library (aka learning resource center) is attractive & modern, with plants & murals to make it pleasant; there's plenty of one-person carrels and several small study rooms that always seem to be occupied. Parking permits now $40/semester, $20 for summer session (as of 2013), with daily parking passes available for those infrequent visitors. As of summer 2012, tuition is $46/credit hour for in-state students, with a reasonably moderate enrollment fee assessed on out-of-state students.

    What to do for fun

Decent drama program puts on musical & straight plays every semester, plus instrumental & dance concerts & a few documentary films each semester. Annual professional magic show was pretty cool (worth the cheap tix!) but auditorium frequently dark. Commercial movie theaters 1/2-mile away, lots of off-roading/dirt-biking in this area. Mountain hiking areas a moderate drive away. Luxury housing development right next to campus has recreational lake for wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking & fishing, but lake/beach use restricted to residents, so you have to know someone. There's a football/basketball/volleyball/soccer game schedule, but I haven't gone to one game yet. No museum or swimming pool on campus, but there is a fish hatchery that kids find fun.

    Food and Dining

There's a small (but loud) on-campus food court with ample seating in the student activities building, no sit-down cafeteria, with a few scattered vending machines in student activities building and in a couple of classroom buildings. Chain fast food locations clustered about 1/2-mile away down the main drag, closest grocery store further. Small convenience store right across main 6-lane arterial road for drinks/snacks, plus a gas station within walking distance. Great Mexican family restaurant (La Casita) right across from campus, with Taco Tuesday. Commuter students have many eating options within 5 minutes. Some students eat at the all-weather tables scattered around the central lake, and there are a few outdoor seating areas outside the student activity building that I see students using.

    Dorm Life

No dorms here, it's all off-campus, with no truly close-by (walking distance) apartment complexes. Generally, there's only a few room for rent ads posted per semester, so I'm assuming mostly local commuter students. There are many small & medium apartment complexes in town, so there are cheap housing options available.

    Academic Rigor

Average, according to most students I talk to. There's a high emphasis placed on academic integrity & almost every class syllabus has no cheating warning clauses (I don't actually know anyone who's run afowl of this, so don't know how rigorously it's enforced). None of the classes in my nursing education plan have been cakewalks, I'd even say they're comparable to the 100- and 200-level courses I took at a state university. Science classes use recent textbook editions, meaning you're learning about some late-breaking discoveries.

    Tips for prospective students

Many departments (especially science) heavily impacted with more students than seats in available classes; this means you've got to register as soon as you're allowed or risk getting waitlisted for everything you want. Barstow College courses automatically transfer here, so that's like a satellite campus. Lots of lectures now online (hybrid and online sections) to free up classroom space; blackboard software platform makes online class participation really simple. Auto shop students take your car in for cheap (but VERY slow) repair service right on-campus. Local buses stop right outside Advanced Technology building (upper campus) & Gymnasium (lower campus). Bookstore lists all required/optional texts including ISBN so I can plan ahead & buy used for future classes - this is a huge help since I can even watch for the required titles at used bookstores, with a little advance planning.

    In three sentences

Attractive, fairly modern campus with central lake, populated by water birds & turtles, means it's really nice to walk to class in (generally) sunny SoCal weather, unless it's windy (which is often). Recently built Advanced Technology bldg contains student computer labs, free writing/tutoring centers, cheap printing stations - there's a lot of academic assistance available to help students excel. Suburban location in a commuter town means not a lot of sophistication in students or nearby fun places to hang out, unless desert hiking is your hobby; however, the infrequent on-campus music/theater offerings are pretty good and there are run-of-the-mill movie theaters & the like nearby.

The campus safety is excellent, the time that I've been at this college there have been few violent acts but they seemed to be controlled quickly by the school police.

    Clubs and Activities

As for clubs, there are many of them. I actually am involved in a club called The Ready Rams Club. We do volunteer work around the community, create fun experiences and activities to the students, and also raise money to help the needs of the club.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The best location on campus is the lake, it is such a nice view that anywhere around it there's a positive energy that relaxes me from the stress that school provides.

    What to do for fun

What i like to do for fun there is joining the gym. The gym is a fun experience because i get a good work out in and also i have met a lot of new people there. There are many other classes which also include yoga, tennis, football etc.

    Food and Dining

The food in the SAC building is the only place to get food, it is not amazing food but it's eatable, and not that bad.

    Dorm Life

There is not a place to live because of it being a somewhat small community college.

    Academic Rigor

The college doesn't have any harsh rules but it's more of a type of place where You're an adult, whatever you choose to do, the consequences you will have to face.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to prospective students is that to take school seriously especially if they receive financial aid, because with out a doubt, it will be taken away if their gap is lower than a 2.0 .

    In three sentences

Victor Valley Community College has been an awesome experience for me, they have provided myself and many others great opportunities to succeed in the majors of our choice. This place like any other is a college that if you are willing to learn you will find a way with an ease. As a bonus,VVC, is a great visual experience due to its unique design of the structures within its environment.

    Campus Safety

Victor Valley College is a safe college. There is always a campus officer near. I have witnessed the campus police give several tickets to cars that did not have a parking permit, and that too is a force of safety. One time my mom brought me to the college to meet with my counselor. My little brother, little sister and their little friend took off running shortly after I was called. My mom could not catch them because she was babysitting a little baby too. So my mom explained everything to me. I told a staff member who was on their way home for the day (I am a disabled and couldn't walk around looking for them). She called the Campus Police, explained to him how the kids ran off and told him where we were. In less than ten minutes the police car pulled up with all three smiling little faces. I know they are available when you need them.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club called The Ready Rams Club that is active on campus and in the community. There you can be active in dodge ball tournaments, trips to Magic Mountain and much more.

    What to do for fun

For fun try joining one on Victor Valley Collegeâ??s Clubs. There is a club called The Ready Rams Club that is active on campus and in the community. There you can be active in dodge ball tournaments, trips to Magic Mountain and much more.

    Food and Dining

Our cafeteria is a relaxed environment that is not too loud that you canâ??t work on your assignments while you dine. There is a variety of good food at reasonable prices that is prepared after you order it. We also have a cafe right outside the cafeteria that prepares a variety of hot foods. There is a Rams Book Store in the same building near the dining area where you can purchase snacks. There are vending machines throughout the campus. The eating area is always clean because someone is always walking through sweeping and cleaning the tables.

    Dorm Life

I personally have no knowledge of the dorm life. Nevertheless, the students at Victor Valley College are very focused. I canâ??t imagine it being anything less than a place suitable for a student to continue to reach their academic goals.

    Academic Rigor

Academic Rigor is adjusted by the student. Never take on more than you can handle, and always work hard enough to get an A+ because you donâ??t know what the future holds. You may have to miss a day of school that you cannot make up. Victor Valley College has Services for Students that provide each student with the assistance necessary to succeed in college: For students with young children the Preschool Services Departmentâ??s Head Start and Early Head Start programs are now offered at our College. Students eligible for The Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) will receive assistance with: Learning Disabilities, and Physical or Other disabilities. Students eligible for Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) may receive book service, priority registration, tutoring, career counseling and more. We have a Community Center which has Assistants that are trained to work with other students, individually or as a group. They provide assistance in the various stages of speech composition, oral presentation development, brainstorming techniques, research and more. There is Academic Counseling to help students plan their long and short-term educational goals as well as match classes and majors to their particular needs and interest. Our Writing Center has Instructional Assistants and Student Tutors that are trained to work with students in a variety of writing tasks such as generating ideas, revising essays, spelling errors and much more. There is a Math Lab for students who need help with math. A large beautiful library with Staff Members that are always willing to assist you. A technology building that provides access to numerous computers. College services help facilitate each studentâ??s educational career and should make college life more pleasant and productive while students pursue their educational goals.

    Tips for prospective students

If youâ??re not sure if you want to go to college, Victor Valley College has all the potential to confirm that you have taken the first step to a promising future. On the College Website youâ??ll find a link that explains the steps to enrollment: http://www.vvc.edu/offices/admissions-records/nstudents.shtml. Itâ??s been over seventeen years since I've been in school, therefore I prepared myself to be stressed out by the enrollment process alone. But even today I wonder how I went through all the steps so smoothly. There was no fork in the road and no resistance. It was as simple as complete the first step, ask questions if necessary, and then proceed to the next one. Nevertheless if you experience some problems during enrollment, be patient with yourself. That is exactly what I did. I took time out to explore the website, visit the school and ask anybody who had time all my questions. As you began the enrollment process, remember to take your time and read any instructions carefully. Reading through instructions quickly can bring on so much unnecessary stress and waste a lot of time. Once it is clear what you need to do, take that step. If possible enrollment early. It will keep you from being too hard on yourself. In your first year take Guidance 101 or another Guidance Course. It will provide you with so much information about the College and the possibility of transferring to a University. It also gives you better access to Counselors who can answer all the perplexing questions associated with your goals and success. Donâ??t overwhelm yourself. Take only two courses the first semester. For example, Guidance 101 and a Math Course, until you know how much you can handle.

    In three sentences

Victor Valley College is a beautiful college with beautiful students, beautiful Instructors and beautiful Staff Members. The students at this college are serious about their education and this atmosphere can be very motivating. The college is clean, accredited and safe.

    Food and Dining

Can't really say, being that I've never eaten at the cafe.

    Academic Rigor

It depends with the professor. Some professors do not require any true work, while others will have their students working overtime just to receive passing grade. But for the most part it's not so bad. Mainly if you take the effort to pay attention in class, you'll be able to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly any tips that I would give would probably work for any school. Take the time and effort in your classes and you will do well. Understand the purpose of a college education is to educate, not to provide a good time, and then do what is necessary to receive this education as fully as possible

    In three sentences

It completes its purpose well, that being a college to educate those living in the vicinity for a relatively low price, and one shouldn't expect more out of a community college. However, I personally disliked the people with whom I shared my classes, who do not have much interest in their education, which clearly reflected in the way they behaved in class which unfortunately tainted my experience. But if one just cares about taking one's general education classes for a lower price before going on to earn their Bachelor's elsewhere, this is the place to do.

They are extremely helpful with what ever it is that you need, and they're so passionate about what they do. Most caring counselors I have encountered at any college. 3)Take advantage of all the resources students have at the campus. There's many that come in handy at one point.

    In three sentences

As stated before I have had some teachers and classes where I loved to learn and felt like I learned so much. Some classes were really hard, but if you worked hard you could get through anything there; but some classes were kinda frustrating to the point that it made it very hard to try and pass.

VVC is a very small but secure community college. A majority of the teachers are very nice and always in the mood to teach/help (but there are always the few you wont like!) Sometimes it seems a bit crowded due to its small size and large population of high desert college students.
