Great for these types of students

Wagner College is great for students who want to close to New York City without living in the city. It is also great for students who want a small school and classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come with an open mind and pay attention to everything that is happening on campus. Be ready to meet a lot of different and interesting people. Most importantly, have fun and relax.

    Bang for the buck

In order to make sure you get the most bang for the bunk I recommend taking advantage of everything that Wagner offers their students. There are so many academic, extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer opportunities on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

The best part of living on campus is participating in my clubs and hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy our annual Homecoming, Fall Fest, Autumn Ball, and Wagnerstock. The college and the clubs/organizations on campus offers many fun activities such as movies, guest speakers, karaoke nights every week.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are great at Wagner. They are really dedicated to learning more in their specific field of study and to teaching their students what they have learned as a result of their research. Of course, there will be professors that you will and will not like.

Great for these types of students

    Theater students!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a theater major, go here. It's a great theater program, and you'll be amongst many people who share similar interests with you. Also, you are obviously in a good area for internships considering to proximity of Broadway.

    Bang for the buck

This school is an absolute rip off. The academics are not anything special. The living spaces are cockroach and centipede infested. (yes, it really is true) They threaten to charge you money for ridiculous things, and they really don't care about your well-being.

    Am enjoying being here

There is almost nothing to do here. A lot of students leave on the weekends, so it sort of turns into a ghost town. Also, the campus is on top of a hill... if you want to walk anywhere your out of luck. The transfer rate is extremely high at this school for a reason- it is pretty miserable being here.

    Am learning a lot

Academically, this school is a disappointment. Don't fall for the advertising like I did, they are really sub-par.

    Greek Life

Very accepting and fun Greek life. Due to local laws there are no greek houses but rather certain floors in the residence halls are devoted to the greeks so they can live together. Even if you are not interested in greek life, your opinion may change at this school as all the greek organizations are friendly and help students feel welcome.

Great for these types of students

Musical Theater (4th best program in the country), Science majors, and those interested in any job largely based in the city.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Despite beng in a borough of New York, it is a fairly quite area in a suburban section of Staten Island.

    What to do for fun

Various tips to the city as it is only about a half hour from your dorm, across new york harbor, and into down-town manhattan. Greek life is also a large part of campus life but is not your typical Greek system. There is a large emphasis across the entire campus on respect and fiendship.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the school as well as schools also in the the New York City Metro area. If you are set on attending college in New York City, you can't bea Wagner as we are one of two city schools that still have a campus.

    In three sentences

Wonderful location that can't be beat. Along with a highly diverse student population this school provides wonderful learning experiences. The small size of the school is a fantastic bonus.

Great for these types of students

People who do not need to be surrounded by tons of people all the time, know how to make their own fun, love the city, up for anything.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs, make your own fun, say yes to every email event you get, and find a great study spot. Also get an ethernet cable for the internet. The campus has WiFi all over but it can be weak sometimes.

    Bang for the buck

I have no idea where all the money that this school gets is going because the dorms and buildings are old and unkept and the food has no variety. The campus itself looks beautiful

    Am enjoying being here

It's a great school but there are no parties and many of the students are NY and NJ residents who go home on the weekends leaving campus to look like a ghost town. The key is to make your own fun.

    Am learning a lot

I did not learn a single thing in my classes first semester. All I learned was what not to do for next semester.

    Bang for the buck

It's a bit on the expensive side.

    What to do for fun

There's theatre, sports, outdoors and lots of fun events throughout the year.

    Food and Dining

It's pretty decent. The school has an all you can eat buffet and you can buy meal plans.

    Dorm Life

I only give it one star because I live off campus.

    Academic Rigor

    It's up there! 5 stars.

    Tips for prospective students

These are some tips: Know your counselors, don't fall behind school work and don't be ashamed to ask for help or tutoring.

    Campus Safety

the campus could be considered small so there is always someone around to help. around campus, there are emergency call posts that alert campus security of where you are and they will come and help.

Great for these types of students

wagner college is for the kind of student that likes a relaxing environment with obtainable excitement. if you want to be near new york city but have a quiet place to go back to then wagner is perfect.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

in one of the buildings on campus there is the coffeehouse where students can socialize and relax.

    Bang for the buck

it is mostly worth the tuition you pay. the professors act mostly professional but have no problem helping you with anything. the dorms are generally clean. most of all the library is so vast. the only thing negative is if you are a commuter you are not going to benefit as much and some professors are very intelligent but can not teach the best.

    What to do for fun

there are a lot of clubs and greek organizations. the meetings are usually late afternoon or at night which makes it difficult for commuters. the gym is open if you sign up for the membership.

    Food and Dining

take the college up on the free gym membership because the food is so good you are going to have a hard time maintaining a good weight. the hawk's nest has an array of options from salad to pizza to burgers. in the cafeteria like section downstairs, there is a buffet style layout where you can order sandwiches or get food from the buffet.

    Dorm Life

from what i have heard, the freshman dorms are a little stuffy since they are in the oldest dorm building on campus but as you being an upperclassmen, the dorms get much better and more convenient. the senior dorm building even has a starbucks in it.

    Academic Rigor

the classes can be difficult depending on what interests you the most. most classes require a lot of reading and consistent attendance to your classes. be prepared to work hard. not all professors are difficult but a few expect a lot from their students. the professors are mostly willing to help though.

    Tips for prospective students

if you plan on going to wagner, then make sure to attend orientation. you will meet people with your interest and make great friends. the other freshman are at the same place as you so remember everyone is a little nervous. just enjoy the experience.

    In three sentences

    Clubs and Activities

there over 41 clubs on campus. if you get involved in something you will enjoy your time at wagner. there is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

wagner college is good for students that like small schools. if you want your professor to know you and help you this is the school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the three day orientation for freshman is tradition that most schools do not do, but it is very fun and memorable. we also every year have a band come and perform this year we are having gym class heroes.

    Bang for the buck

the tuition is high, but just like any other private university. there are many scholarships that you can receive.

    What to do for fun

Wagner is a small campus, but despite that, there are always events and activities happening everywhere. The city is also just a free shuttle bus and a free ferry ride away.

    Food and Dining

I've heard that the food at Wagner is great, so I am definitely looking forward to that!

    Dorm Life

From what I've heard from current students, Wagner dorm life is very fun and enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

I haven't yet attended, but it seems that Wagner can be very rigorous with some of its programs and demanding at times.

    Tips for prospective students

It is has a very relaxed and homey feel to the campus yet its assured that you'll be worked and pushed to your limits.

    In three sentences

Wagner has a beautiful campus. It is in Staten Island so New York City is very accessible. It has a great Theatre program and great opportunities.

    The City!

    Tips for prospective students

If you aren't big about being in an urban campus but want that city life, Wagner is just the place. Located in a small residential neighborhood on Staten Island, it keeps a small college profile just minutes from ferry access to Manhattan.

    In three sentences

I love Wagner College! It offers great academics along with a great campus life all shared by free travel into the great city of Manhattan! I wouldn't trade it for anything!

    Greek Life

we do have a greek life, even with a small school. I am not in one, but people really do seem to enjoy it. there are a lot of fun traditions that go along with it!

Great for these types of students

theater, music, art, etc. Its definitely a creative school. however, I am neither and I still enjoy it there.

    What to do for fun

The city!! It is RIGHT there and the school provides a free shuttle to the free ferry. and wa la, you are in the city. I do not know what more students can ask for. Anything you want to do, you are likely to find it in NYC. Which also comes in handy for internships junior and senior year!

    Food and Dining

When I first started at Wagner, it was notorious for its dining. However, it has been replaced and is much much better. It has plenty of options. At the very least, if you dont like what they are serving, do not want to go to the sandwich line, or make a salad, there is always cereal. In addition to the dining hall, there is the hawks nest, which has a grill and italian food and a starbucks.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nothing special. There are four. One is for all the freshman, and has a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline. The other three are upperclassmen. One of which is relatively new and has been compared to a hotel. The living accommodations suit the college life. It is nothing fancy, but you will make it home and love it.

    Academic Rigor

I may have come from a more challenging high school, but I did not feel that big stressful first semester at college. Sure, as I get into my major things become more difficult, but it was never that overwhelming. I know, for me, the small class sizes make the world of a difference in doing well. The professors are always willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Go into Wagner with an open mind. Far too many people judge it as a theater school. There are just as many athletes. And every one else is somewhere in between. There is a place for everyone, as long as you give it a chance. Wagner makes sure to give everyone an opportunity to belong.

    In three sentences

Wagner is really a tight knit community. So many people compare it to high school and cliques, but make it sound so negative. I love that Wagner gives you groups, gives you a family away from home. In addition to it being a strong community, because of its size, it has so much mroe to offer on a more personal level. The small class sizes and relationships with professors is priceless. You will find your complaints at any school, but at Wagner, its easy to stay optimistic because you are surrounded by people that are doing just that.

The Coffeehouse! A student run cafe, that is super affordable.

    What to do for fun

Go to the events, there's usually free food!

    Dorm Life

    I am a commuter student.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure in what you wish to study, Wagner is a small college, so one really doesn't have that much options for majors,. I came in undecided, the major I want is not available at Wagner, so now I must switch to another.

    In three sentences

Wagner has an absolutely spectacular campus. The professors really take care of you. The classes are very interesting.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe while walking on Wagner campus by myself at night.

    Greek Life

Greek Life does have a presence on campus. The organizations are always involved with fundraisers and parties. There is no pressure to join greek life but it is a good way of making friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for every one at Wagner. From religious based clubs, to political clubs, to Dance Club and Knitting Club. Also, if Wagner doesn't have it, you can start one up with your friends.

Great for these types of students

    Independent, focused, friendly, adventurous.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an anchor in front of Harborview that any organization can paint and decorate, so long as you spend twelve hours on top of said anchor.

    Bang for the buck

Wagner could be a little more gratuitous with scholarships and financial aid.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of clubs to join at Wagner. There are fraternities and sororities, but there is no pressure to rush if you want to make friends. People go into the city, hang out on Sutter Oval, go to the Staten Island Mall or just hang out in their dorm rooms.

    Food and Dining

The food is not the best and the dining hours are inconvenient.

    Dorm Life

Two of the dorms do not have air conditioning. The rooms are small, but Wagner does an amazing job of pairing you with someone you will be compatible with. There is a significant commuter population, and those who dorm frequently go home on the weekends. But there are plenty of things going on at Wagner that make it worth it to stay.

    Academic Rigor

The AP classes I took in high school were more challenging than the classes I take at Wagner. There are a wide range of classes to take, from simple to very challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Wagner is not a big school, so if you are not comfortable with seeing the same faces everyday, look elsewhere. But all your teachers will know your names and what kind of students you are, which is rare on a college level. Take advantage of the free ferry into Manhattan. Wagner emphasizes learning by experiencing.

    In three sentences

Wagner's proximity to the city is what sets it apart from other liberal arts colleges. There are amazing, dedicated teachers who make it part of their job to help students apply what they learn in the classroom to the rest of the world. The campus is beautiful, and everyone is friendly.

    Greek Life

    Wild!

    Clubs and Activities

There are too many to keep track of!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I have heard of traditions like SongFest, but that has no happened yet and I am only a Freshman so I don't know what that is about.

    Bang for the buck

You are receiving a great education, but the food makes it not worth it. The gym is amazing, so take advantage of that too.

    What to do for fun

Nothing really. There are activites, but when there are events run by the FYRE (first year residential experience), do not bother going. No one attends those events.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining hall is edible, but not great. Before you swipe into the dining hall check out @wagnerdining for the food that the dining hall will be serving. The food at the Hawk's Nest is good, but if you are starving, you are going to have to pay out of your own pocket as well.

    Dorm Life

There has not been much to do on campus lately. In the beginning of the year, everything was live. A lot of people were stupid and were hospitalized, so do not be one of those stupid people.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are difficult, but not impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

Only apply to the Learning Communities you are truly interested in otherwise it will be hard to survive your first semester. Take advantage of orientation! If you can, try to take five classes in the fall semester and four in the spring semester.

    In three sentences

The Learning Communities at Wagner College make it harder to make a lot of friends and be comfortable around others. Since it is a small school there are tons of cliques. However, the academics at Wagner College are incredible and teachers are always willing to help their students.

    Greek Life

There is a bunch of Fraternities and Sororities on campus. My advice is to just visit them all to see where you might find where your home is.

    What to do for fun

Go to the city! If you're not staying on campus on the weekends, you're most likely going into the city. There is also a gym with a pool on campus. In the spring, people like to go out on the oval and layout, and play frisbee and other sports!

    Food and Dining

The dining hall food is hit or miss. A lot of it is questionable looking, but edible, other times it could be really good. Worst case scenario is that there is always the salad bar, and usually chicken strips and french fries. There is also the hawks nest, but its all greasy foods and you only have a 5$ swipe per meal there.

    Dorm Life

Harborview is a great place to live, even though it is a dry building. Everyone is friendly and you get to control your AC/Heat. Towers is a great place to live if you are very social. There is always something going on in Towers. Guild is mostly filled with Juniors, Seniors, Theatre people, and Honors students, and is a more quiet dorm to live in. Foundation is the Junior and Senior dorm which is the newest dorm on campus. It is the only other building besides Harborview with A/C

    Academic Rigor

You get the grades you deserve by putting as little or as much effort as you want. Professors help you at first, but then they let go and they dont mother you.

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself, and you will make friends easily. You get out of your education what you put into it. Go into the city when ever possible, its so easy to get there from Wagner!

I fell in love with Wagner College since my first visit and think it is a great school. The campus is beautiful and the Wagner Plan is a great approach especially with the emphasis on promoting learning communities and civic engagement. Wagner also has one of the best Theater Departments and has been selected among the top up and coming colleges in the North East. The faculty-student ratio is very good and the overall environment is fantastic. The dorms are also very nice with an awesome view of New York City. Students are friendly and the food is great too.

    Campus Safety

It is a small campus, so easily students can walk from one building to another without feeling unsafe. But if students ever felt unsafe, emergency stations are placed all around campus. All the walkways are lit up at night and campus security is constantly riding around campus in their golf carts.

    Greek Life

Currently a sister of Alpha Delta Pi, the Greek life is not consuming of the college, but a good amount of students choose to pledge a sorority or fraternity during the second semester of their freshman year. There are currently four sororities on campus and three fraternities, as well as one co-ed fraternity. Greek life is a great way to get involved because each organization holds walks, fundraisers, support a specific philanthropy (i.e. the Ronald McDonald house), and is a very good way to make new friends that will support you and be there for you as you chug through college.

    Clubs and Activities

Wagner has a large amount of clubs on campus, and you can basically find any club to fit your needs. From the spanish club, to the biology club, anthropology club, etc., Wagner has many optons for students to get involved on campus.

    What to do for fun

Many students enjoy going out to the bars around Staten Island such as The Black Dog, Afternoons, and Danny Boys. These bars are popular for sororities and fraternities to hold fundraisers as well as for anyone to go out and have a good time. They are a mere 5-10 minutes away from campus and are very fun. Students also enjoy going to the city to go out to eat, go shopping, go to the clubs, etc. There are also parties on campus, usually in Towers Hall, that are put on by the football team, the baseball team, and other random parties that end up being a lot of fun.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the food isn't perfect, but it's good enough! In the dining hall, you are able to make sure you are finding exactly what you want to eat by either making your own salads, or choosing between a variety of hot lunch specials, having a sandwich bar available, and hot pizza is available. There is a separate place where students like to eat as well, called the Hawks nest and in there, students can use meal swipes to get hot food such as burgers, hot dogs, wraps, fries, and pizza. Also available is a coffee station that serves Starbucks coffee, fruit, muffins, bagels, and a variety of pastries as a nice small breakfast to grab on the go if you don't have time to eat in the dining hall.

    Dorm Life

With four residential halls to choose from, it is easy to make sure you are where you want to be. Incoming freshman students are automatically placed in Harborview Hall, a freshman dorm, and learn the basics of living away from home. You are provided a closest, desk space, your own personal dresser, and your own bed. It is a very comfortable room, as are many of the other rooms in other dorm buildings. Wagner has themed community floors in Guild Hall, such as honors floors and theater/musical floors, etc. The room size and design vary between each building, but the basics are the same. It is all very comfortable and it is what you make it!

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging, but not impossible. With an myriad of classes to choose from, Wagner's academics can help you in many ways. As a liberal arts college, undergraduate students are required to take general education classes such as art, theater, and technology, and ultimately, these classes hep to boost your overall GPA and help in making you a very well-rounded person.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in pursing business (either management, marketing, accounting, finance, and international), a healthcare profession, even pursing a theater profession, and you are not specifically concerned with the size of the school, I would definitely look into the school. Because the city is so close, internships at hospitals and business firms are a major aspect of students' academic achievements. Wagner is unique in the fact that students and professors are able to have a better understanding with each other, and professors are willing to meet with students outside of class, who may be struggling or need academic advising.

    In three sentences

Wagner College is a beautiful campus located in Staten Island, NY that overlooks the New York harbor, as well as New York City/Manhattan. It is a small community, but it is very welcoming and has a very comfortable feeling to it. Easily accessible by the ferry, the city offers many internship and job opportunities for students looking to pursue all types of careers.
