Great for these types of students

This university is best for students who like to get involved and put themselves out there. WSU offers so many opportunities its hard not to WANT to get involved in something. However, if you feel for some reason that you might not fit in anyways, don't sweat it; during those cold (and very long) winters sometimes staying in and doing your own thing is not a bad idea. the one universal thing I can say to any student looking at this university is that you must come willing to be focused and work, its easy with all those extra-curricular opportunities to get side tracked and I know from personal experience that falling behind is the last thing you want to do.

    Tips for prospective students

One thing I can say to any prospective students more than anything is that home work is a major component in being a student at WSU. you must be willing to work for a grade! very few professors will allow you to skate by on good test grades alone. The other thing is that in order to get the full WSU experience you must be willing to examine all your options, anyone can sit in a dorm room and play video games in their spare time but with all the extracurriculars WSU offers its virtually impossible to not find a group you wont fit in with, but you must be willing to look. Believe me, its worth the effort.

    Bang for the buck

WSU has an amazing range of educational and/or social opportunities. While the dorms are nothing to special the campus does boast a wonderful Student Recreation Center built within the last couple of years. The Campus also brings a just re-opened and completely revamped student union building which shows free movies Friday-Sunday nights and host up-all-night parties periodically throughout the year. On a more educational note WSU also offers many aids to students in their studies ranging from personal tutors to a student writing center where English majors get to sharpen their skills by helping correct and modify papers brought in by students who are having writing troubles. All expenses for these attractions and more are all automatically included in your tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

I grew up going to WSU games so I guess i am a little biased but to be truthfully honest their are a lot of great qualities boasted by this college that I can honestly verify. First, the college hosts an array of fun and/or interesting educational activities and the same can be said for any social activities. The atmosphere is very relaxed but with an underlying sense of extreme urgency to do well. Over all while the students and staff may act rather laid back many of both are actually very dedicated making this college a nice place to be.

    Am learning a lot

The Professors at WSU are thorough in their teaching but sometimes lack the patience for slower students. The curriculum while tough is also very educational and I have found it to be rather enjoyable.

Anyone! Students interested in Hospitality, Agriculture, Veterinary and Architecture: Washington State is excellent in these fields.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep those grades up, it's getting competitive! :)

    Bang for the buck

As an out of state student I have a much higher tuition price than most, but Washington State is very good at offering scholarships and loans. I receive a scholarship making my out of state tuition almost the price of instate tuition. It is so worth it though. Like I said the earlier, the campus is awesome, the people are extremely friendly and helpful, and scholarships are plentiful.

    Am enjoying being here

As an out of state student I can say that I am SO happy here. The campus is beautiful, and with the rolling hills walking to certain places on campus can count as your workout for the day! Haha, but really, the campus is beautiful, safe and easy to navigate. The options students have are endless: intramural sports, Greek life, over 300 clubs ranging from accounting to snowboarding, ski team, etc etc. There are plenty of options for student jobs and the University even has a website to help search for them. Washington State is a fun, laid-back, academically strong, beautiful campus that I would recommend anyone to attend.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at Washington State University are incredible, and luckily, all the ones I have had are really good at getting to know their students on a personal basis. Even with a 300 person lecture, if you're the type of student who is willing to get to know your professor (ask questions, go into office hours, etc) they're willing to help!

Great for these types of students

Engineering, Veterinary, Music, Architecture, Business, Zoology, you name it, this school has it (even Astrophysics!)Choose a major, but don't be afraid to look around. Just don't look around too long. Counselors and advisers are there, and they are always available to you.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of things if you decide to go here. Like any school, you can get caught up in the strangest things. This town is one of the safest places I've ever been to. Girls have their own Women's Transit and the Pullman Transit Bus lines are operational until 3am. Use your resources and find others to make you successful person.

    Bang for the buck

Definte a home away from home. The only thing I probably hate is the cost for board and room but even so, for out of state students like me, this was a lot cheaper than some of the schools in Cali. Amazing, I know. And I don't get a really good financial package (ouch).

    Am enjoying being here

Way different than from my comfortable LA town, but this college town has a lot of spunk and hope for the Cougs. Even though the number one thing you'll hear a lot is that it's a lonely town, the University does a great job in offering activities, keeping you busy with school work and opportunities, and advertising outdoor adventures. It really takes a special breed to hang in here.

    Am learning a lot

There's an interesting concept to WSU, first and foremost, you are asked to learn a little about your self. Develop in a new environment where there's plenty of diversity to present yourself with. I love the wide range of knowledge my professors had, not only in the courses they were teaching, but in others that had little relativity. The writing center is also a wonderful opportunity to go in and edit, or be edited on papers, brainstorms, even lab ideas.

Great for these types of students

Washington State is such a large school that anyone will be able to fit in. There so many majors offered, every student will find the career path that fits them best. There is also clubs and teams that everyone is welcomed to join. Pullman is a college town, which means there is not much going on other than games and campus events. It’s a great way for all students to get involved, but some may have a hard being so isolated from life outside of the campus. Washington State University is a great college for those who put academics as a top priority as well as those who want to make their college experience a fun and memorable one.

    Tips for prospective students

An important thing to realize as an incoming college student is how different it is from high school. In many classes, your entire grade is based solely on exams. This means that preparation is up to you since there is no homework. Start good study habits early to help relieve the stress of your first year of college. While maintaining good grades is the most important part of college, it is also key to involve yourself in extracurricular activities. At Washington State there are a number of ways to get involved, and I recommend that everyone at least find one group that shares their interests. It’s a great way to make new friends and get the most out of the college experience.

    Bang for the buck

Washington State University is around the same price as other public undergraduate universities. I definitely feel that I am getting my money’s worth. There are so many programs for students of all interests that cost little to nothing. There are also free movies shown in the auditorium every weekend. The only thing I feel I would change in terms of cost is the price of food in the dining center. Depending on what you buy, meals can sometimes be rather pricy.

    Am enjoying being here

I chose WSU over other schools that I was considering because their incredible school spirit made me believe that the students enjoyed their school. After my first few weeks, I found this to be true for me as well. It’s a great school with many areas to study and a variety of activities for people of all interests. The football and basketball games are a blast. There is also a number of clubs for people who want to get involved in areas of their interest. Washington State has an amazing Greek program as well. The entire education and extracurricular experience at this university is excellent. The hardest thing for me to get used about college life at WSU was the fact that it is located in a small town. This can cause some students to feel isolated.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot at Washington State. All students are required to take a class from several categories, which include intercultural studies, sciences, etc. These requirements give students the opportunity to take a class that they probably would not have taken otherwise, and allow them to learn about a variety of topics. The professors at WSU are also very helpful in allowing students to get the most out of their education. They provide detailed information in their lectures along with ample resources to do well in their class. Although the course load can sometimes be rather challenging, your professors are willing to help as long as you go to their office hours and show an effort to do well.

Great for these types of students

Since the campus is mostly a hill, it is great for those who want to get a workout without going to the gym. We don't call it cougar calfs for nothing. Also great for students wanting to pursue an animal related career or a nursing career.

    Tips for prospective students

Find something you enjoy and get involved. WSU has so many opportunities for students. Many of the clubs are available to all students and they are a great way to meet new friends.

    Bang for the buck

While all colleges are expensive, I am very pleased with the campus and the living situation. You get a great learning experience and the campus is beautiful.

    Am enjoying being here

Washington State University offers a lot of different programs that give you a step up on your career. As a student interested in veterinary medicine, I was extremely pleased to discover all of the different clubs offered for pre-vet students. The Raptor Club is by far one of the funnest and gives you the chance to work one on one with birds of prey.

    Am learning a lot

As a student in the animal sciences program, I am learning so much more about animals than I thought possible just in my first year. Almost all of my professors have been easy to talk to and very interested in the subject.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is laid back, can learn and concentrate, and control themselves while distinguishing between school time and play time.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the location of Pullman bring you down! The environment is awesome and the people are great and friendly. The professors are cool, and they're committed to helping you learn.

I like WSU a lot! My roommate is awesome, and I love the fact that I can learn what I want to learn in my specific area :)

Great for these types of students

This school has a fairly large student population, over 20,000, so if you like that size you should do just fine. Someone who doesn't mind being in a small town will enjoy campus life here too. WSU is only about 15 miles from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, but Moscow is also a small town. The campus is gorgeous and educational opportunities abound.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply as early as possible, especially if you are from out of state. If you are from out of state you can apply for the Cougar Award that helps defray the cost of out-of-state tution. If you plan on joining a sorority you should get as many recommendations from former members of a particular house as possible.

    Bang for the buck

I think resident students get a bigger bang for their buck than say an out-of state student. Someone from out of state could probably find a state school in their own home state that could provide the same education at less cost. Still, it is a great university with great educational opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

This is an amazing campus. It is set in the rolling hills of the Palouse and it is gorgeous. The dorms have many activities to join in on, including dances, movies, and a variety of intramural sports teams. There is usually an all-night campus party once a month with food and games. There are also fraternities and sororities on campus with an active social schedule. Fraternities are not too hard to get into as not many guys want to join, but joining a sorority can be hard as there are many more girls applying than can be accommodated in the houses. There is also a great recreation center on campus if you enjoy working out, especially during the winter months.

    Am learning a lot

The University has challenging classes and you will get a very good education. Strong study skills and good time management are a must to keep up with classes if you are a full time student. There are tutors available if needed.

Great for these types of students

WSU is great for students wanting to get involved, be fans of college sports, and receive a quality education at a good price.

    Tips for prospective students

Its important to keep a solid gpa and sat/act score. While the university isn't know for being extremely selective, they are becoming much more strict as the cost of college continues to rise. A variety of extracurricular activities is import on your application. All these things will help lead to your acceptance into the university and any scholarships that you might receive. Keep in mind that college life is different from high school, and not for everyone. Academics are notably different from high school, and you will learn to discipline yourself to study often and perform better on exams. Many of your grades will be based off of just your exam scores Make sure that you visit the campus if possible, it can give you an accurate feel of the school and what things may be like for you.

    Bang for the buck

WSU is a public institution that is around the price of other instate universities. The rising cost of college is one thing, and it will continue to happen everywhere unfortunately. As a student that doesn't quality for grants or many quality loans, I was pleased to receive a more than decent financial aid offer with scholarships. With the education and experience that I'm receiving while attending WSU, I can say that it is a bang for the buck. Additionally, WSU made a selective list by a magazine/journal in regards to the best value universities.

    Am enjoying being here

I am proud to be a Cougar and you will find that just about the entire student body is also. The school pride at WSU is outstanding! Sporting events are fun and popular, and if you like other activities its likely that the school offers it. The drama department offers a hilarious regular improv comedy show called Nuthouse in addition to the student union builing offering movies every weekend night. The student government, greek system, and dorms offers countless other activities both on and off campus. Don't forget about the campus; its amazing! The lovely look of the new and well kept old brick buildings continues to astonish me. The rolling hills of the Palouse region is not for everyone, especially since many city kids are not familiar with a smaller town such as Pullman. However, Pullman itself is charming and has a great community feel as does the university campus. Even though the student body is rather large at around 20,000, its great because it allows you to know many people within a great community while also being able to sit back and just be a number if you wish. I love how I can walk on campus and see people from my classes, run into professors, and also see many tables from organizations set up on the central part of campus.

    Am learning a lot

My variety of professors has really been great. One of the best things about the learning environment at WSU is that whether you are in a 400 person lecture or a 20 person tutorial, you will notice that your professors want to help you. They make a conscious effort to know you, and this is rather easy if you take advantage of office hours or talk to them after class. Classes are challenging and you certainly have to earn your grades. Strong study skills and good time management are academic concepts that you will continue to develop at WSU.

Leadership seekers People who want to be involved on campus People who want to get their moneys worth Anybody who wants to be successful in life

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit the campus! I promise once you see how gorgeous the campus is and how many positive features are here, you'll have a better feel for the school. There are always campus tours and opportunities for prospective students to come see what WSU is all about. I highly encourage becoming a member of the Greek System, for more reasons than one. Leadership opportunities, close-knit community, lifelong friends, and many social aspects are just a few reasons.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition here is not too bad. I feel like I'm getting my moneys worth because there are so many options for majors and minors. There are a lot of opportunities to be in clubs and to get involved on campus. Also, there are a lot of programs for study abroad.

    Am enjoying being here

I honestly enjoy going here. When I'm at home, I miss being in Pullman. Everyone is scared that Pullman is too small of a town but there are always things going on. The Greek System is so close knit, you can make many good friends and family. Everything on campus is in walking distance so you rarely need to leave campus. The campus is beautiful and pretty big.

    Am learning a lot

All the professors are here for your benefit. They have no problem scheduling meetings outside of class if you're having trouble with the class. It's comforting knowing that you have so many options for help including TA's, tutors, and other students. I've learned so much the past two years, and am so excited to learn even more the next two years.

Great for students who like seclusion and studying into the night for just a quiz. WSU offers a massive greek life, so it's not hard to feel alone even in Pullman. It provides a brilliant communications program that is nation recognized.

    Tips for prospective students

DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Unless you are costing by in the Honors College at WSU, homework and attendance has never been more important. Remember that single kid your senior year? The one with the perfect attendance record? You want to be that kid in college. Sure, that kid in high school might have been crazy to attend everyday regardless you weren't paying as much as you do now. High School, even if you went to private costs incredibly more than any high school and for that reason you should GO to class. Every time you skip you cost your parents $500. Oh, and Sally Sidewalk rules for girls and boys. MIP's are easy to get in a small town. At WSU you feel as if it's another world, one without consequences and even as a freshman I have seen other kids get MIPs in the first week. Don't be stupid, just be smart.

    Bang for the buck

I have to say the reason I came to WSU was because of the awesome scholarships and incredible price. Even though it is high above community college tuition, WSU provides college life and an amazing education.

    Am enjoying being here

For me it was tough moving to Pullman and knowing that the closest mildly decent shopping mall was over three hours away. The barren land and desolate scenery is almost a blur when you enter the campus at WSU. There is so much to do that single student won't feel left out. Even as the homework plies on you have the ability to join clubs, sports, greek life, and Cable 8 WSU's own cable station.

    Am learning a lot

Read, read, read! WSU is about knowing the material, the tests and even the homework rely on the reading. In high school I could always get past without reading, at WSU you won't be able to do that. So make note cards, bring millions of highlighters and get ready to read.

Students who want to get a great education and have the best school spirit should attend Washington State University.

    Tips for prospective students

At times it is hard to balance academics, social life, and sleep, but with a little hard work and trial and error, becoming a college student here at WSU is worth the effort. Don't give up, believe in your self.

    Bang for the buck

College can be expensive and Washington State University is no different. But with the top ratings and experience along with the know credits of where you achieve your degree, WSU is totally worth it and is definitely the bang for the buck.

    Am enjoying being here

Once you step on the soil of Washington State University, something happens to you. You become caught up in the spirit of WSU is all about. You are apart of something way bigger than one can even comprehend. You are now a Cougar. I enjoy being here and anyone and everyone that visits is hooked and has an urge to come back.

    Am learning a lot

Washington State University offers several programs with a range of learning opportunities. I am currently going through the Interior Design program and at times it is challenging but I rather be challenged than not at all. Besides the accademic part, learning to live on your own and experiencing new adventures is also included while attending Washington State University.

Single parents, working families or individuals. Anyone who must work a regular job and cant only go to school. Good at managing your own time very well. Not good for procrastinators. Must have good discipline, must be willing to communicate and give feedback. Have the time to log in at least 4 times a week to each class. Must have a computer, and should be a laptop, as well as access to internet whenever you need it. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you are good at managing your own time. Nobody is there to remind you of assignments, and it is your job to remember discussions, exams, papers, extra credit, textbook info, etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in contact with your adviser, they will help you select courses so you graduate on time, and they wont let you overload yourself. My adviser talked me out of taking too many hard courses in one semester, so I would be able to dedicate the proper amount of time to all of them. Sometimes they don't post the course materials until the last minute, so email the instructors asap if you plan to order your books online. This semester, they didnt post my required books until 1.5 weeks before classes started. When I ordered them online, I didnt get my books until 2 weeks into the semester. Keep on top of it. Also, if you do have to take proctored exams, it can be hard to find one last minute so look early in the semester. Most places charge, like libraries and other schools. Sylvan learning centers can do them last minute, but they charge a lot of money, I paid $75 to take an hour-long exam. A local community college proctored mine for $20. Its VERY important to find your proctor early so they can schedule you in, and so you get the lowest price, because it can be costly. A lot of churches will do it for free, and police stations.

    Bang for the buck

Most online schools are pretty expensive, since you are paying for the convenience. And a lot of employers look at online-only schools as being less than adequate than an on-campus education. However with WSU, it is recognized equal to an on-campus degree, and the price is more affordable than a lot of other online programs.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment is great because it is whatever you want it to be. I can be at home, or in a coffee shop, and it is easy to learn when you are most comfortable. Also it is great to be able to log in late at night if you work all day. The discussion boards are great and most of the students provide good feedback and conversation, and the majority of the teachers reply to your questions and posts in a short time.

    Am learning a lot

I am an online student, which is beneficial to me because I am almost 30 and need to work full time. Their online program is one of the best in the countries, and a State University degree that you can attain online is really great. However, in this particular online environment, I find that we take few exams that are proctored, and since most exams are essays or in the privacy of your own home, it is easy to rely on having your textbook. While I feel that I have learned a great deal, I also feel that I may be learning more if I were forced to be tested without the book.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students looking for a small town school with plenty of school pride.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend that you get involved. I know people say this time and time again but it is the honest truth. You meet so many people by putting yourself out there and you can find so many good friends. Also, get to know the people on your floor, you'll be living with them for quite some time.

    Bang for the buck

Washington State University is a little expensive because I am out of state but the experience is worth it. I feel that they overcharge for housing and dining since the facilities are dated but all of the residence halls are cleaned and well maintained.

    Am enjoying being here

The student body is like a family. We are Cougars through and through and the support for athletics, arts, and community is astounding. There is always something to do and the semesters whiz by.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are phenomenal here! They really are trying to help you succeed and push you to learn. There are many on campus resources to help solidify learning such as math labs and writing workshops.

Great for these types of students

WSU is great for all students. There are many activities and clubs to get involved in for everybody. The classes are also very diverse for most majors. Particularly though, it is a great school for their veterinary and honors program. There are 2 or 3 programs where undergrad students finish their degree a year early and can go stright to the vet school right on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

My first tip would be to talk to professors early. If the professor has some inkling to who you are, they will want to help you more than some random student. Also, getting involved is very important. Its easy to gget so stressed by homework and exams that you want to stay in your room and study all night, and that's alright sometimes, but others it is too overwhelming. Take a night for yourself and go to a campus event or get involved in a club that you find enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

Although tuition is a consideration for any college, WSU works with their students through financial aid and scholarships really well. The overall experience, I think, is definitely worth the rate I'm paying.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many events at WSU and the campus is so beautiful that its hard to not enjoy being here. I have made so many new friends in my residence hall and my major program.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are great and work with you to learn the material if you take the initiative to contact them. I've sat down one on one with a number of my professors because I didn't understand the lecture that day, and they really helped.

    Tips for prospective students

Run. For me, WSU has been a hassle. I finally got in (after paying all my fees) and was waiting on the tuition rates to come back to see if I could afford it. I decided that another college would be better for me and tried to get out, and I was charged a boat-load of fees.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is about $8,000 (give or take depending on the student). They do have good scholarships and awards if you can get them. From my experience, it's a hassle and you still have to pay fees every time you apply. Even if you should get an award (like for academic merit) they don't always give it to you.

    Will enjoy being here

I've been in contact with WSU for over a year now and it's been a huge hassle every step of the way. You have fees for this and fees for that. Classes start in August, but your academic advisor won't be back until September and you can't register because there's a new-student hold on your account, but if you don't register for the Fall semester, they'll charge you a fee and expel you from attending for two semesters.

    Will learn a lot

Everyone I talked to said that when they were at Pullman, it was nothing but a party town. That world class education isn't worth much if you have to study through everyone else's music and yelling.

    Campus Safety

wsu was voted the safest campus in the pac-12 for two major reasons: 1) the small size of the pullman community means that there is a much lower crime rate overall in the town, and 2) wsu offers a myriad of safety services on campus, such as women's transit, which will give a ride to any student (male or female) who would otherwise be traveling by themselves at night.

    Greek Life

greek life is great! i'm not in the greek system myself, but both of my roommates are, and they absolutely love it. and the fraternities on campus always hold events every weekend that both greeks and non-greeks can attend.

    Clubs and Activities

as i said before, the clubs and activities are great! it's really easy to get involved in all sorts of different clubs on campus.

Great for these types of students

people looking for both an education and the traditional college experience, people who like small towns, people who like to be involved in school activities

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

wsu is such a tight-knit community that there are way too many traditions to name! one of my favorites is saying go cougs to other people sporting wsu cougar gear off campus. the saying once a coug, always a coug is definitely true here!

    Bang for the buck

tuition is pretty steep here (at least compared to other public universities in the country) but for me, it's completely worth it. i'm getting a great education and a fantastic college experience all in one!

    What to do for fun

there is a movie theater right around the corner, but the student union building (called the cub) plays a different every weekend movie for free! greek row is also incorporated into the campus. plus, the student entertainment board always has activities going on, like up all night events with hypnotists and free piercings!

    Food and Dining

the food is pretty good for being dorm food. but when you get sick of the cafeterias, there are little convenience stores on campus so you can stock up on junk/snack food! and you can pay for everything with your meal plan money.

    Dorm Life

since the town is so small, dorm life is dominant here. and absolutely love it! you get to meet all sorts of people, and you are within walking distance of all your classes. it's very convenient.

    Academic Rigor

i'm in the honors college, so those classes are obviously challenging. but i have found some of my regular classes to be challenging as well! the good news is that most of the teachers want you to come in and ask for their help.

    Tips for prospective students

stock up on cold weather clothing for the winter months- the snow can really build up, and school pretty much never gets cancelled! also, get involved in whatever you can. it's a great way to meet new people and get to know the university.

    In three sentences

wsu is the perfect school for me. the academics are great, but the best part is the atmosphere of the town and the university. it is the perfect college in the perfect little college town!

    Campus Safety

the campus has its own police station and there are constantly cops making their rounds throughout campus making it a very safe campus.

    What to do for fun

there are constantly activities going on, there are many groups you can join. also, the school puts on different events such as concerts and dances.

    Food and Dining

the food is good, but there isn't as much variation as i would have liked.

    Dorm Life

personally, i do not like the dorms because of the small space, but it varies from person to person.

    Academic Rigor

the classes can be difficult, but everyone here is here to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

don't get behind in your studies. as long as you stay organized and focused you will succeed.

    In three sentences

a beautiful campus that has plenty to do if you look for it. the professors are very great, and extremely helpful. everyone that works and lives here are kind.

    Campus Safety

you cannot get any safer than pullman, trust me. we are one of the safest campuses in the pac 12. the only problem that occurs throughout campus is theft and thats only when people leave there stuff unattended. after a long study session in the library i usually walk by myself at night back home, i never feel scared because honestly theres nothing to be afraid of, theres usually people walking around at night too and there probably just trying to get home or walking back from a late night study session like you. if for some reason there is an emergency there are these poles with a 911 button all over campus, you can spot them because they have a blue light on top of them, if you were in any danger, those would be in close range, as long as ive been here though i have never heard of anyone needing to use them. the local police department is also located right in the middle of campus, so if an emergency were to take place it would take them less than 2 mins to get to you.

    Greek Life

i personally love greek live because i am greek myself! there is a really bad stereotype when it comes to being in the greek system and that is not the case at all. i definitely thought about all the college movies ive ever seen and thinking thats what greek life was going to be about, it really wasnt. the people here carry heavy traditions and are very passionate about grades and volunteer work. people in the greek system have on average higher gpas then people that are non-greek. there is a high standard of greatness for the fraternites and sororities on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

the are various different types of clubs and organizations on campus for anyone to get involved in, theres really no excuse. and trust me, they will recruit you especially if you go in the compton union building alot (cub for short) because thats basically the main hangout spot to chill in between classes and get something to eat. there is a club and organization for every type of interest, too many to type out!

Great for these types of students

this school is great for people the already used to the type of weather in washington, pullman is pretty unpredictable when in comes to weather and it can be a shock for someone that isnt used to it, like myself coming from california. this school is also great for biology, agricultural and animal science majors particularly because that is what this school is known for.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

it is a must to 1. hate u dubb with a passion (people hear will call you out and harrass you if you support the university of washington in any way) they are a rivals and everyone hates them 2. go to the football games, the campus is literally desserted on the day of the games (even though we dont have the best team, everyone still goes to support because of our fanstastic school spirit), own at least one piece of coug swag, which translated is any type of shirt, sweatshirt, hat etc. you will feel very out of place because everyone you pass by with have something of wsu on.

    Bang for the buck

it is definitely worth it if you make the most of it. if you stay involved and do everything there is to do and take advantage of the classes given and the office hours of professors, your money will not go to waste.

    What to do for fun

pullman is basically in the middle of no where, so there are not alot of places to go if you dont have a car. but the bus is free is you have your student id card so you can travel with that or walk. there are alot of restaurants and mom and pop shops downtown, if you like to party, greek row has a bunch of fraternity partys literally every weekend. the student council at school holds different events on the weekends that are really enjoyable, they work hard to give students who dont like the party life something to do. we also have school concerts, last year wiz khalifa and ludacris came, this year big sean came and tyga is coming soon, and most recently rappers currency and too short came.

    Food and Dining

the food here is great!... for about the first couple of weeks, if you live in the dorm. it gets kinda tiring after a while, but there are separate markets next to the dining hall for example hillside has a little market where you can go and make your own food, kind of like a campus mini mart.

    Dorm Life

i guess it depends on which dorm you pick! there are alot of new dorms that are being built and a couple being refurbished, those are the ones to go for, the older dorms are not as nice as the newer ones but the rooms are much, much bigger which is a plus. the do have all girls and all boys dorms, but most of them are co-ed. the dorms always have different activities going on and there are lots of ways to get involved. wsu does have a requirement for freshman to live in the dorms for 1 year.

    Academic Rigor

there are definitely some great and okay professors here at wsu, i just depends on your major or the class your taking. some majors like animal development agricultural, or biology have very good programs and professors because thats usually what people come here for, other programs do have a great professors once you get in the higher level classes, most 100 level classes are taught by a graduate student or ta.

    Tips for prospective students

if your coming from out of state, definitely visit a couple of times before making you decision, especially if your not used to this washington weather it can be a real shock. pullman is basically in the middle of no where so thats another thing to keep in mind, its definitely a campus town so there are things to do but the nearest shopping center is 8 miles away in idaho.

    In three sentences

a beautiful campus with lots of things to do. you get all 4 seasons living in pullman and theres a strong greek system. the school spirit is very strong and you can tell people here are proud to be a coug!

    Campus Safety

i would say the safest campus because the police station is on campus. also they have these telephone like things where you can have someone take you back to your room if your uncomfortable walking back by yourself.

    Clubs and Activities

i would say definitely go use the rec, its the gym, they have a nice one and its included for the tuition and fees so there's no cost to wsu students, just shoe your cougar card (student id).

    What to do for fun

the fun is what ever you go looking for or trying something completely new. fun could be just hanging out with friends after cramming for a test or having dinner with your roommates.

    Food and Dining

the food starts out like your going to a restaurant but after a while that restaurant feeling gets duller and duller making you yearn for real home cooked meals. once in a while make something that'll get you feeling like your back home.

    Dorm Life

its a great way to meet new people and see how you can handle your self in a different setting. i would just make sure to watch out for the noise when your trying to sleep it can turn into an all night-er.

    Academic Rigor

the academics are great if the right teachers teach you. no matter in what major or undecided give it everything you got because its college not high school.

    Tips for prospective students

don't take the first semester so lightly because you were accepted, it'll be an eye opener to what college is really about. go to class and plan your time accordingly and wisely.

    In three sentences

wsu is up to beat and energized to help those are willing to go looking for it. its a beautiful place to visit if one wants to be isolated from the rest of the world. but you never loose connection with the outside world.

    Food and Dining

there are four dinning halls on wsu's campus as well as a variety of other dinning/cafe places.

    Dorm Life

i lived in rogers dorm before moving into my apartment. rogers was more quiet dorm, but still had tons of activities to participate in by the ra's.

    Academic Rigor

the classes here are challenging, but most professors and ta's are willing to take time out of their personal lives just to see the success of one student.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you have good snow boots! the winters in pullman can be harsh. i would recommend snowtracks!

    In three sentences

i would recommend wsu to anyone looking for the big college experience. while the campus is large, the small town of pullman makes for a fantastic community! its the best of both worlds!

This school is amazing for students that are looking for a good school that also has opportunities to relax when you need to. And of course there are tons of clubs! Also, this is a research institution so if you are going into a professional school that would look at research experience, this is a spectacular place to go!

    Tips for prospective students

I think my number one advice is definitely GO TO CLASS! So much money is going into your education why let it go to waste? And besides, you could find that you really love your classes if you put time into them. Another tip of mine is of course study. A half hour to an hour per day of studying notes (this doesn't include homework) from each class starting the first day was enough to ROCKET my grades upwards compared to last year. Don't procrastinate! The other advice I can give you, which is also very important, HAVE FUN. Don't burn yourself out! Make sure that you reward yourself for how hard you've been working at least on the weekend. Trust me, you will thank yourself for it. Go to the CUB, there is always something to do there! And remember... GO COUGS!

    Bang for the buck

Some of the classes are rigorous and take time. But this is a good thing! This school wants so badly for us to all succeed and go on to professional schools if need be. There is SO much help offered here including the writing center, free tutoring 5 days a week at the CUB, and chemistry TA office hours ALL DAY monday through thursday. This and just going to your classes makes this school so worth the cost of college.

    Am enjoying being here

Are you kidding me? This is WSU! Of course I enjoy being here! And despite what you hear, it is not all about partying here. The school holds concerts, probably hundreds of clubs, and we also have these things called up all nights at out Compton Union building (CUB) which are themed with things like Halloween, Hawaiian, and game night! WSU gives me so much opportunity to other things besides drown in my school work. GO COUGS!

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors I've had are amazing! They are entertaining and you can tell that they love what they are teaching. I find that as long as I go to class (which I recommend), the topics end up being interesting and studying comes easier. I truly am learning a lot.

WSU is great if you like sports, opportunities to go on adventure excursions, the colors crimson and gray, the Greek system, Multicultural sororities and fraternities, Multicultural events, Agriculture, Vet majors, hands on undergraduate research, free pb and j sandwiches Wednesdays 12:00-1:00pm, free open mic days, philanthropy events.

    Tips for prospective students

Invest in some good snow boots and yes when there is ice in the ground you will fall. Don't worry, everyone does. Be sure to not wear gold and purple together since those are WSU's rival colors, the UW Huskies. (BOOO!) Be sure to check out Pullman's downtown area. It is small, but quaint. And remember to check out the sunset at night on a mostly clear day. It is truly breathtaking.

    Bang for the buck

While it isn't the cheapest of schools, it isn't the most expensive. If you are applying from out of state check for the Cougar Academic Achievement award. You can get up to $9000 a year for getting good grades!

    Am enjoying being here

I love being a WSU student because I love being a Cougar and a part of a community that I can feel proud of. The rush you get when your football team runs on the field, your volleyball team ties up the fifth match, or your basketball team is beating the Huskies. Or it could be watching your friends performing in Wadleigh or Jones Theatre in a student created, made, and ran production. You get so much out of the experience of living here and a bit of partying is never awful if you're careful.

    Am learning a lot

Everyday I'm learning through my teachers, the books, and even my friends. When you are being educated at WSU, you aren't just getting book smart, you are also getting street smart about living away from home, how to balance work and play, and how to live on a budget.

WSU is great for all students. It is so diverse and welcoming that anyone can fit in!

    Tips for prospective students

I would advice prospective students to give WSU a shot! Visit the university! And during the visit take some time to walk around by yourself. It is during that time to yourself that you will get a feeling of the university and know if it is the place for you. During my visit I felt so comfortable like I was at home.

    Bang for the buck

Being an out of state student comes with a bigger tuition, but in my opinion it is well worth it. I've gained so much experience by being in a new place that is so far from home. I've learned that WSU is a safe place and there are people here who are very willing to help. Many people here want to see students succeed and enjoy themselves. There are facilities with free printing, advisers, mentors and tutors. WSU also hosts many events that are free for students and cheap for non-university students. There are also awesome, free facilities such as the transit system and recreation center.

    Am enjoying being here

I am an out of state student from Wisconsin. Being so far away from home came with a bit of homesickness, but WSU helped me through it! I talked to an advisor about my homesickness. I expressed how I wanted to be more involved and meet people. My advisor showed me the many opportunities and events that the university offers that could help me. I felt much better after our meeting and began to do more things and meet more people. WSU is a very social and welcoming environment.

    Am learning a lot

I've learned so much about my major as well as myself and growing up! Classes have taught me things that I would have probably never learned. It amazed me how practical some of the tings have been that I've learned. Another surprise was learning the same concepts, but in different was and in different classes. It showed me that those concepts are important pieces of information that can apply to many areas. Being in college has also helped me learn more responsibility. Making it through my freshman year has taught me a lot about myself. My friends would agree that this school has showed them how responsible and hardworking they can be.

EVERYONE is great for the college. Everyone is welcome.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to all the week of welcome events. Go out meet new people, go to the clubs, leave your door open to your room and get to know the people in your dorm. Use all the resources available for you and help (they are all free!). Everyone is just as scared and nervous as you are so it's okay to not seem completely put together.

    Bang for the buck

It's a beautiful campus with some great facilities. The dining services can be good depending where you go and at what times. The dorms can be pretty nice depending on which ones you go to. They restore the dorms often which keeps them looking alright. Most of them are quite small though, but you don't have to pay as much for those. If you take full advantage of all the free and awesome things available to you then it's definitely worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is awesome at WSU. Everyone is nice and friendly. There are tons of clubs to join that fit what you are looking for. The school spirit is crazy here. We aren't good at sports but our spirit makes up for it. You'll never meet someone not proud to be a coug.

    Am learning a lot

You can go into so many different majors and minors at WSU. It's business college is in the top 10 of the country which is very impressive. The only thing is I wish it had more art based classes, like culinary or sewing. The teachers are great (well the ones I've had, some say their teachers aren't as great) and I've learned so many new things.

Great for these types of students

WSU like any college is great for students who have an internal drive. You have to want to succeed to do good just like at any other University. Professors won't approach you so you have to make your presence known.

    Tips for prospective students

The only thing I can really say is that being in Pullman is what you make of it. You will feel like you're in the middle of no where with nothing to do if you make it that way. You have to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and find things to get involved in. With over 300 different organizations there is something for everyone. If there isn't something for you, get some friends together and start and organization. But, make sure you're involved and having fun throughout you're college career, while still maintaining a good work ethic and focusing on school.

    Bang for the buck

Although the tuition is much cheaper than attending a private school, with tuition increases the last several years I almost wish I had taken the CC route first to save some money. However, if you are looking for a University environment WSU is great for that. When I arrived here I loved how much there was to do on Campus. The students do a great job of hosting and putting on events for the student body to enjoy which makes the experience that much better.

    Am enjoying being here

I love WSU and the environment. Being of AAPI decent and coming from a very diverse area I wasn't sure if I would enjoy myself in a primarily white community. Before I even arrived to campus I was contacted by a mentor from Multicultural Student Services. Once I got to WSU my mentor took me in and showed me the ropes and how to get involved at WSU. Over the past three years I've served on cabinets of many ethnic organizations and the MSS community has become my family.

    Am learning a lot

I'm going into my senior year of college and over the past 3 years I have learned a ton at WSU. Not only in classes but also about myself. The teaching staff at WSU is top notch. Most of the professors I have encountered care a lot about their students. Of course, it is a college campus and most professors aren't going to seek you out you have to go to them. I have found however, that when you approach a professor or TA for help they are usually more than willing.

Although Pullman is a very small town, I honestly feel right at home. The tight-knit community makes it a 100% college town. At every home game, whether its Football, Basketball, Baseball, or Volleyball, the alumni and our local community is at all of the games cheering.

Great for these types of students

I think WSU is great for anyone who is serious about having a college education. There are many international students that we have. Anyone who is ready and serious about pursuing a serious career.

    Tips for prospective students

It is definitely worth leaving home. I know it might be hard at first, I myself went to a community college before going to a university, but I definitely do not regret doing it. It's great meeting new people that you probably would not have met if you hadn't gone to college!

    Bang for the buck

I believe the education that I am receiving is worth my money, definitely in the long run. I think having a higher education is very important, especially for the first generation college students, such as myself. It is a huge accomplishment to be able to attend college.

    Am enjoying being here

Aside from the cold Pullman weather, I enjoy going to school, I enjoy the comfortable campus, and I enjoy the opportunities that WSU provides. It is great meeting new people that come from all around the globe.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are great. Some of the professors might not be as available as some students may want them to be. But the work load is definitely there!

    Campus Safety

There are safety buttons at every corner. Maps and emergency plans are also located anywhere that someone would possibly need one. The campus patrols are real cops with real guns and are extremely friendly. I have asked them to walk me to my car at night, jump start my car battery, and much more and they are always so kind and helpful.

    Greek Life

    There isn't any.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and plenty of activities going on all the time. If you can't find the specific club you're looking for, then find two other people who are interested and start you own!

Great for these types of students

Working students, students with families and children to take care of, students who live in the area, students interested in engineering, psychology, or biology, students with a connection to the LGBTQ club (they're the largest group on campus and very well supported), and students with an interest in anything outdoors.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This is a relatively newer school, so I'm not sure if there are any true traditions yet.

    Bang for the buck

The food is decently priced, although a lot of students go off-campus for food. The Bookie (where a lot of students buy their books) tends to be a bit expensive, but readily available for people who need last-minute things.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot of back-packing trips and outdoor events at the Vancouver branch. They also have quite a few different intramural teams for different sports like soccer and basketball and volleyball and Frisbee golf and more. The different clubs on campus also host different events that interest a wide variety of interests. Movies, political talks, speed dating, halloween parties, a dance, improv socials, concerts, and LOTS of PIZZA!

    Food and Dining

The food is actually really good and they have a lot of variety. If you're going to the Vancouver campus, they have a smaller dining hall, but there is still a salad bar and a lot of fun sandwiches and soups and chicken dishes. It's a bit pricy at times, but they work hard to make it affordable to students.

    Dorm Life

The Vancouver branch doesn't have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others depending on the teacher. Students are more than happy to offer advice and opinions on which classes are better than others, which professors to avoid or try for, etc. There is definitely high expectations for students here, but the school also offers a LOT of help with tutors, free writing and math labs with instructors ready to help, and more.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a dorm-centered school, make sure you pick the one in Pullman or Tri-Cities because the Vancouver branch doesn't have student housing. Also make sure you're ready for the academics. Some of the teachers are extremely laid back about homework (but they still teach really well) and others are much more up tight and strict. Ask around!! Students are really friendly and ready to offer any advice about which classes to take based on which professors. The other thing to be aware of is the amount and variety of events that go on! Even the Vancouver branch (that has no student housing) has some incredible events and you will have a LOT of options for things to do on the weekends and during breaks.

    In three sentences

It is extremely open-minded and welcoming to people from all walks of life. The students are ready and willing to help and answer any questions for new comers. They have a lot of activities to get new students involved and the staff really push students involvement as a key to success at the school.

    Greek Life

wsu has a large greek life and is greek row is located near campus.

wsu has over 300 clubs for a wide range of interests. they also offer intermural sports.

Great for these types of students

social, outgoing, fun, and friendly. because of the rural setting it is important to make friends in order to really enjoy the activities of pullman. there is a huge sense of unity and school spirit here and students support each other.

    Bang for the buck

overall, the entire town is catered to the university students, so it is a great place to transition from the safety of your parents abode to a new independent life. great people and great academics.

    What to do for fun

being a rural setting there isn't a great amount of things to do in pullman. the school offers multiple recreational activities, including ski, rock climbing, biking, and hiking trips as well as fun and cheap yoga, aerobics, swimming, and dance classes (and many many others). the city also has many pubs and bars, and two hookah lounges, as well as good restaurants. the neighboring town of moscow, id, also has similar activities.

    Food and Dining

the cafeterias on campus are excellent (especially southside cafe), and the resident dining account is convenient and easy to understand. they offer a wind variety of healthy options and good hours. the campus also has many coffee stands and a cyber cafe that takes rda money. one of the most convenient additions to the dining on wsu is the markets that are located nearby. this is important because many people who do not bring their cars to school can go to these markets and not be forced to walk or ride the bus to farther locations and are open until 1-2am.

    Dorm Life

dorms are well maintained and comfortable. the internet access is slow and goes out every so often but every dorm also has tech support. most of the residence halls are very close to campus and all the roads around them are well maintained with plenty of parking. the rooms are decent sizes and come with usually large closets.

    Academic Rigor

depending on your major the workload is average to large. in lower division courses it is much lower and easier. courses with labs can be taxing but with the right motivation and dedication and student can handle the workload.

    Tips for prospective students

take your time on your essay, it is your opportunity to really express who you are and what you have to offer as a student. also try and get a feel for what majors you are interested in, this will help guide you into a school that's right for you and will put you in quicker contact with faculty members in certain departments.

    In three sentences

washington state university has a beautiful campus with tons of social, academic, and extracurricular activities to offer. class sizes are small to mid sized and all professors and t.a's offer convenient office hours and extra help if needed. the student recreation center and outdoor recreation center have hundreds of classes and opportunities to help stay healthy and focused, and overall the school is a great life experience.

    Campus Safety

the university provides a free transportation service for women called women's transit. there are also free buses that go throughout the town very frequently and bus stops all over the place. because of this, mostly all students feel safe and comfortable during the day or night. besides transportation, the university makes sure the sidewalks and roads are clean and clear or graveled when it has snowed. this way, the town is safe to walk or drive on.

    Greek Life

greek students do a lot for the pullman community. they volunteer their time to clean up the town or help out at a retirement home or daycare. fraternities and sororities have events that they do for fun as well. they each have their own requirements for grades and whatnot which makes them qualified for the house.

    Clubs and Activities

wsu includes: intramural sports, university recreation, outdoor recreation, tutoring, study groups and sessions, foreign exchange clubs, different language-speaking clubs, and clubs for people with disorders or personal problems.

Great for these types of students

every type of student...wsu is open for everyone. it is especially fun for outgoing people who are willing to learn and meet new people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

football and basketball games are insane and so fun! our cheering traditions as an audience include lots and lots and lots of screaming. we take out our keys and jingle them during kickoff at football games. at every sporting event where the band is, we do the cougar shark attack where the band plays the jaws theme song and we open our arms and clap them together. the beat gets faster and faster and it gets super loud. before many of the home games on friday night, the band marches all over campus and greek row playing wsu band songs.

    Bang for the buck

i was told that washington state university was too much of a party school but i completely disagree. it is great! any college can be considered a party school and will only have that effect on people who choose that path while they're in college. it has a great variety of students from mostly the northwest and some from other parts of the country and world.

    What to do for fun

the university has a huge recreational center where students and other pullman citizens can go to work out, play indoor sports, or swim. there are intramural sports available for those who do not belong on a team through wsu. also, the outdoor recreation center allows students to rent things like rollerblades, bikes, boating equipment, and other outdoor recreation activity supplies. they rent it to students for free! on campus, there are little stores and coffee shops that are fun to go to with or without friends. the greek system is spirited and many of them do volunteering and have their own fraternity or sorority house activities. students are constantly busy here!

    Food and Dining

there are several restaurants throughout campus and several cafes in the buildings where classes are held. as for students living in the dorms, university dining services provide great food in the dining halls and kind service. there are always many nutritional choices available.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is stellar! it is the perfect way to meet new friends and a great place to hold study sessions. wsu provides tons of dorm options that vary in price, may be co-ed, or are closer to classes and the buildings in the middle of campus. the faculty that work for the dorms are very hard-working and really care about the students who live there. they try their best to keep the dorm clean, fun, and studious.

    Academic Rigor

professors take cheating very seriously at this college. it can easily lead to expulsion. they expect good behavior during class. also, the school takes into account students' actions outside of class. for example, if someone were to get an mip or a felony of some sort, they have certain classes that those students are to take as part of their punishment.

    Tips for prospective students

the tips i'd have to give are: go to class, take good notes, and get homework done a little at time right away-especially if you are a procrastinator! it is difficult to come to college if you are not used to so much work and many hard tests. however, it is much more simple if students read the assigned material, go to class, and study a little at a time. then, students can actually learn the material instead of just cramming. i also would have to say to not forget to have fun. it isn't good for new students to come here and just party almost every night because that's what you're supposedly supposed to do in college. however, going out with friends every now and then is completely healthy! as long as your physical and mental health is not negatively affected, having a little fun with friends is okay.

    In three sentences

washington state university is a beautiful campus that seems to stay very clean. with the easy and free transit buses that run throughout pullman, crazy school spirit, huge libraries, and efficient professors, i rate the zzu a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. it is also a wonderful school because i feel extremely safe walking around day or night.

    Campus Safety

I haven't run into any personal safety problems. Randomly through campus are security alarms you push any time you feel unsafe. At night, you can push these and a police officer will give you a ride anywhere you need to go.

    Greek Life

I am not personally in the Greek system, but most of my friends are. The Greek community has a large numbere of participants and seems like a very good system.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a wide variety of activities that will fit anyone's needs.

    Bang for the buck

WSU is really expensive for out of state. There are a lot of budget cuts currently happening, as well as a hike in tuition rates.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities put on the university itself. WSU has an outstanding Greek system. People from larger towns often complain about a lack of stuff to do in the town itself. I come from a small town, so I enjoy going out in the woods, riding fourwheelers, etc so Pullman is not too far away from places that fit my needs.

    Food and Dining

Many food and dining options on campus, including a sit down restaurant. Most food is over priced but you get discounts if you are a student and even more discounts if you live in the dorms.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorm, but from what I have seen, they are very small and sometimes outdated. They are very (outrageously) expensive.

    Academic Rigor

I spend a lot of time on homework each night. It is hard to say if my large homework load is due to being in the Honor's program or if every student is the same.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning to be a business major, be aware that you cannot double major within the college of business. If your second major is a non-business major, then it is okay. This is something I wish I was aware of before I came.

    In three sentences

If you are all about school spirit, Wazzu is the perfect fit as I don't see any school more spirited than a Coug. They have a great honor's program and both my advisors (honors advisor and business advisor) are outstanding. For a smaller town school, it is a great university with many different options as far as majors and activities.

    Campus Safety

WSU has Emergency Stations strategically placed all around campus, as well as an on-campus police station located in the heart of the campus for emergencies.

    Greek Life

Greek life is HUGE at WSU. Again, if you think you might like it, take the chance and go for it- the benefits are endless. You'll meet tons of people, join a house and make a bunch of new friends, and have many networking opportunities. At WSU, there's tons of events- such as Homecoming and Greek Week- where fraternities and sororities pair up, compete in various events, and try to win the most points for their team. It's a great time, and the memories you'll make will be priceless.

    Clubs and Activities

It's hard to even begin to describe the amount of clubs and activities on campus. There's something for everyone. If you're into bicycling, then join the Cycling Club. If you're from Hawaii, join the Pacific Islander Club. If you miss your pets back home, join the Companion Animals Club. If you have a special interest, chances are you'll be able to find a club for it. Take the chance and get involved!

Great for these types of students

Social, outgoing, studious, athletic, and diligent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you're leaving the library at night, be sure you don't accidentally run into the statue of the Book Man just outside the doors. Many people (including myself) have mistaken it for a real person and jumped about 3 feet in the air.

    Bang for the buck

WSU is a great school, but the tuition increases every year are somewhat troubling. It's getting more and more expensive to attend school here, but if you're looking for your typical American college experience, it's worth it.

    What to do for fun

The CUB offers free movies most weekends in their auditorium. All you need is your Cougar Card, and you're treated to a movie theater experience- for free! The SEB (Student Entertainment Board) also hosts Up All Nights. They usually take place on the mall or inside the CUB- they have dances, free food, games, etc. The SEB usually also hires a famous singer or band to come perform on campus. We've had Taylor Swift, Ludacris, Kelly Clarkson, and Waka Flocka Flame, to name a few.

    Food and Dining

As far as college food goes, dining halls at WSU aren't bad at all. After a while, it gets a little repetitive, but they do their best to provide options. They could provide more healthy options, since they always seem to have fried food out, but they do their best with salad bars and labeling healthy foods with a Healthy Choice sticker.

    Dorm Life

WSU has a ton of options for dorms. The freshman ones are usually loud, but there are quiet hours that must be followed. There are other dorms that are specifically for students who are age 19 or older, 20 or older, etc. if you are looking for a quieter dorm. Also, there are girls-only dorms and boys-only dorms, which usually have events together.

    Academic Rigor

WSU has relatively challenging classes. Of course, it depends on which classes and the amount of credits you're taking, but you'll definitely have to put in a lot of work outside of class.

    Tips for prospective students

If you think you might be interested in going Greek, do it. Greek life is huge at WSU and you'll meet tons of new people. Also, join your class Facebook group. It's a great resource, because you'll find out about events happening on campus and have the opportunity to buy and sell textbooks (if you can avoid using the Bookie, do it- it's way overpriced). Finally, find a hobby or club your freshman year and stick with it- chances are, by the time your junior or senior year rolls around, you'll have a leadership opportunity.

    In three sentences

WSU is everything that a college student could want. The classes are challenging, the campus is beautiful, and the people are great. Also, there are tons of on-campus resources to help with any problems you may have, from the transition from home to college or managing your money.

Pullman is one of the safest towns to live in. Campus is a safe place to be day or night. I have never felt unsafe here.

    Greek Life

I did not join the Greek system but have been around it enough to say that it is not all stereotypes. I also like the way they provide their students with study tables, and tutors to maintain their academic standing.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a great variety of clubs on campus to choose from and activities are abundant year round!

    Bang for the buck

WSU is now the most expensive school in the state. I really wish that WSU could do something about this, I love this school but wanting to stay here is difficult because of how much it costs to attend. Not to mention it feels like they prioritize spending money on sports than they do on academics.

    What to do for fun

Bowling is one of my favorite things to do. You can also join in on activities that are provided on campus as well as parties thrown by your peers.

    Food and Dining

Dining centers on campus are expensive but do provide a great variety of health options.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was great and is an awesome way to meet your peers. I recommend it to everyone.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are difficult, mostly because they require a lot of reading and studying on your own. Time management is key.

    Tips for prospective students

Staying focused on school work can be difficult with the expansive social life that Pullman can provide, I suggest joining a study group as soon as possible to help get a good start. Making friends on campus is an easy thing to do, join clubs and get involved to make the most of your college experience here.

    In three sentences

A great school for those who are dedicated and want to earn a degree while meeting new and interesting people from around the world. WSU provides great opportunities to travel the world and gain valuable life experiences. A school that you can be proud to call your own.

    Small town = safe school.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs, from gun clubs to religious groups to special interest groups. It is also easy to start a new club if you want.

Great for these types of students

People who like the outdoors and trying new things.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a great bonfire before the first home football game each year.

    Bang for the buck

The price has gone up tremendously due to government budget cuts, but I still think you get a good education.

    What to do for fun

Pullman is an awesome community if you like the outdoors. I had so much fun in college going on adventures, hiking, biking, hunting, and fishing. I think the best things to do on campus are attending the various performances put on by students and faculty as well as going to the student rec center. The Rec, as we call it, is AWESOME!! There are literally thousands of exercise, sporting, and hang-out opportunities for individuals and groups. I went to the rec every day because it is such a great place.

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is decent. I particularly enjoyed the different themes they had at times, such as a week in Germany where we had brats and sauerkraut and the like. However, if you're not a dorm-residing student with a meal plan, the food is rather expensive. Honestly, I packed my own lunch most of the time.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live in a dorm, so I can't speak for this question.

    Academic Rigor

What you get out is definitely what you put in. You could pass some classes with minimal effort, but if you really want to learn the material, there is plenty to learn and lots to study. Professors are more than willing to help out.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep up on your studies, but make sure to have fun as well. Visit your professors and get to know them - you might just be invited to their home for dinner. You're only in college once, so enjoy the ride. Get a sports pass and go to as many games as possible (once you graduate, the price goes up quite a bit!).

    In three sentences

You won't find another university with the level of school pride you see in students, alumni, and the community - the city buses are even painted crimson and gray with cougars on them! As a student, I learned a lot, studied hard, and played hard. WSU students are almost always up for random adventures and good times.

    Greek Life

Being apart of Greek Life has been one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I have already made some life long friends the first year I was at wsu from becoming a greek. It really helps you to get out of your shell, especially if you are a freshman and want to meet people. Being greek is a huge part of WSU and is of course optional but is definitely worth the try!

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of varieties of clubs that you can join and also a lot of different sports. You can do intramurals or even play club or join a sports team.

    What to do for fun

Even though it may seem like WSU is in the middle of no where, and it is, but there is a lot more to do then you think. First off, we have the best school spirit I've ever seen so going to any kind of sports game (especially football) is a must. The rec is open until late at night so if you are real big into getting fit then there you go. We have one of the coolest recs ever though. There is outdoor sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, a hot tub, indoor track, and other amazing features. You can even take dance classes. Also I suggest joining one of the many clubs because there are a ton. Greek life is a huge part of this college so you will never be bored if you become a part of it.

    Food and Dining

Some of the dining centers are better than the others but it all depends on where your dorm is located. Of course there are a lot of restaurants and cafes around campus and the town so you will never run out of options for food.

    Dorm Life

You make a ton of friends by being apart of the dorms which is definitely a pro. Just make sure that you choose one that is close enough to campus or even the rec center. I made the mistake of choosing one that was far away and it was a struggle but other than that it is definitely worth it to be apart of the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Honestly you get what you put at Washington State University. Of course it depends on your major, but balancing your social life, work, sports, or whatever else with your academics makes it that much more challenging here. The education programs themselves are amazing and put you ahead in your career.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking about becoming a student here you won't regret it. One tip I have though is to make sure that your first year of college you don't take on more than what you can handle. Don't take a bunch of classes your first semester or join a lot of clubs because trust me it will take some time to get used to the rigorous academics in college, but also it is much harder to balance out your time.

    In three sentences

I could not picture myself anywhere else but Washington State University. No other school compares to this place, especially the school spirit that you find here. Every aspect of this school, from academics to social life to whatever you were hoping to get out of your college experience, you will find top notch here.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is actually really good. There are many dining halls to choose from and each has unique offerings, so you can get some variety. Home cooked food is better (and you can borrow pots and pans and use the kitchens in your dorm if you know how!), but nobody will starve!

    Dorm Life

Some of the dorms are fantastic (e.g., Honors Hall), while others leave much to be desired. They are also very over-priced. Use caution during your first year (as freshman are required to live in the dorms) and strongly consider an apartment or renting a house just off campus later on!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are what you make of them. The classes are reasonable, and the faculty are there for you if you want to go farther or if you are struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into the specific programs you are interested in and read through the course offerings/requirements. Make sure that WSU is able to provide you with what YOU want to learn.

    Food and Dining

For me, this was the best part of living in the dorms. When you lived in the dorms you received major discounts on food. The food was great and for the most part you could get food at any par of the day.

WSU has a pretty good history when it comes to safety. Being a small town Pullman does not have much crime. The campus cops provide a secure atmosphere.

    Greek Life

If you like Greek culture this a good place for you. Tons to do and people to meet. It is what you make it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for almost every major. Most clubs are sport related. The International club is great for learning about different cultures.

Great for these types of students

If your driven then this is the place for you. A lot of people party here. I feel there is something for everyone as long as you seek it out.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The steam tunnels were fun till they got blocked off. You can still follow the rivers underneath the city. I love the random art on campus.

    Bang for the buck

This would be a 5 out of 5 but tuition raised this semester. Overall WSU is really economical for a quality education. If you are a frugal person than you can have money for food and extracurricular activities.

    What to do for fun

There are always events and workshops that are going on at the CUB. The Student Recreational Center is great for sports or for working out. IF your creative you can find tons to do at WSU.

    Food and Dining

For being a small town Pullman has a pretty good selection on restaurants. The cafeterias are decent for the most part. The Fraternities and Sororities have the best food.

    Dorm Life

I did not stay in a dorm. From what I hear it is a great experience. Surround yourself with like minded people.

    Academic Rigor

If you want an outstanding education take the most challenging professors. I find that I am pushed to excel in my studies by having tough professors. Learn to remember the information for the rest of your life not just for one test.

    Tips for prospective students

Any college is what you make it. Get involved with activities and clubs on campus. Work hard and Play hard every day!

    In three sentences

I rate Washington State University as 9 out of 10. WSU provides a well rounded education and world class focuses in agriculture and communication. I have been very satisfied with my experience to date.

    Bang for the buck

I personally think the academics offered at the school, at a state school level, are very good and adequately priced. Though we would all appreciate lower tuition, good education comes at a price.

    What to do for fun

Honestly, Pullman, WA isn't exactly known for it's cultural awareness, modern art or museums, but there is a lot of fun had to be had with good friends!

    Tips for prospective students

Support your school, go to games, be involved! Also, stay on top of your requirements, counselors (everywhere) are often busy and can unintentionally misguide you; best solution is to take things into your own hands.

    In three sentences

Has some really great instructors to offer students. Boasts extremely spirited students. Offers a great online program.

    What to do for fun

The greatest pass time in Pullman is getting involved in clubs! Learn how to handle raptors, educate your community about international cultures, play intramural sports, and even dance! The possibilities with clubs are endless!

    Food and Dining

Northside dining hall was absolutely terrible. The meat was rarely cooked fully, selection is extremely limited and it is far from most dorms and campus. On the other hand, Southside dining hall is wonderful! The selection is always changing and the food is always cooked thoroughly. There is even a burger place underneath which opens when the rest of the dining halls close, which is great for students who stay up late to study!

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorms Perham and Gannon. Perham was loud, far from campus and at times I felt unsafe with all the drunken guys coming onto my floor late at night causing trouble. The rooms were also small and the bathroom was rarely fully cleaned. I definitely would not suggest living in Perham. Gannon on the other hand is close to campus, close to the best dining hall (Southside) and the men are much more respectful. I had a great experience there and it is definitely the best option for incoming students!

    Academic Rigor

As a Zoology and Biology major, my course load is intense. I take basically all science courses and the information can be overwhelming at times. But the professors here are approachable and willing to help whenever possible so I have managed to stick it out!

    Tips for prospective students

The best tip I can give any incoming students is to get involved! Clubs at Washington State University range from Pacific Islanders Club to Raptor Club and so much more in between. Getting involved is an amazing way to meet people who share the same interests and even passions as you do and to keep yourself busy!

    In three sentences

Washington State University is in the middle of nowhere. Yet, I absolutely love it! The campus is beautiful, professors are knowledgeable and there are endless opportunities for extra curricular activities!

    Dorm Life

Dorms are small, however newer dorms have been constructed. Although newer dorms are nice, they really are not economically feasible for most students.

Considering wsu is about 27,000 a year for Washington residents, I think it is well worth it. The campus is unique and classes are large but do not feel as impersonal. It is obvious the professors love what they do making learning easier.

    What to do for fun

Buses can take you up to Shopko, Walmart and other stores around campus. Most people go here on the weekends to buy stuff for their dorms. You can also walk downtown to the various shops and restaurants. Moscow is only 8 miles away, but there is no campus bus that goes up there. Moscow has a mall and other fun things to do. The dunes are also a place to go for the weekend. Silverwood is not too far from here either if you have an extended vacation.

    Food and Dining

The food is definitely not what you would get at home. If you are going to eat in the dining halls, go before the 5pm rush. After that things may be cold. Also the food is a bit under salted. I have used my RDA money so far to buy stuff at the market. Ferdinand's has the best ice cream ever because they actually use products from cows nearby! It is way better than anything you could buy at a grocery store.

    Academic Rigor

The courses I am taking are fairly straightforward. There are certain classes you have to take as a freshman that seem totally pointless, but other than that there are many options for your interests. Campus Safety

Washington State University is an extremely safe campus and it has emergency signal spots throughout the campus if somebody feels in danger. If one of the emergency things are signaled, the police will be there within a minute and a half. Pullman is also relatively small as well so there really is not that much crime that goes on.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a lot of fun. It allows people to meet new people and it makes people get out of their comfort zones so they can meet new people and have more opportunities because members of the fraternity people join can help others get a job. Greek Life also consists of commitment as well because it takes up a lot of time on the weekends so it allows people to develop good study habits and makes people not procrastinate as much. One of the best parts about joining a fraternity is the study tables. Different fraternities have different standards but every freshman must go to study tables for nine to twelve hours a week to work on homework or study for a test. This really helps with getting homework done and it also helps with studying for tests because the people you are with will be able to help you study or help you with your homework.

    What to do for fun

For fun I usually go to my friends dorm room and hang out with them or I go to the fraternity I joined and talk to some of the members. I also go to the Compton Union Building (CUB) because they have a lot of activities to do there that are good time consumers. I also like to walk around the campus to get to know my way around better and along the way I tend to see people I know so we talk for a little bit but I also get the opportunity to see if there are any jobs available and it also allows me to meet new people.

    Food and Dining

I like how there are a lot of different options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and it is convenient that there is a dining hall about two minutes away from my dorm. However, at lunch they serve the same thing almost everyday so it gets a little repetitive. The food tastes good though and is moderately cheap so I do not have any complaints.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life has been great for me because I have a random roommate and we have become good friends. We decided to join the same fraternity together as well. It also helps that there are a lot of cool guys on my floor so my roommate and I will occasionally go to someones room or have them come to ours.

    Academic Rigor

I am only a few weeks into attending but so far it has not been too bad. I have had a lot of homework lately but it has not been too time consuming because I still have plenty of time to hang out with friends and do my own thing.

    Campus Safety

Our campus has a great safety notification system. If there's a safety concern/issue then all students receive and email and text message. Depending on how severe the situation is then parents are also notified. If there's a large safety issues like a natural disaster the clock tower serves as an alarm. There are emergency buttons throughout the campus that someone can push if they feel they are in danger and a police/aid car should arrive within 1.5-2 minutes. There's also a volunteer group with a number you can call if you feel unsafe walking somewhere and a volunteer will escort you where you need to go. I feel completely safe walking around campus by myself at night time.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a huge part of Washington State University. There are more than 50 chapters on campus and over 17% of the undergraduate population is a member of Greek Life. Greek Life can be a bit rowdy depending on what you want to get out of but I have a few friends who are involved with Greek Life and love it.

    Clubs and Activities

There is such a diverse selection of clubs from PB&J club to the Civic Center for Engagement that does volunteer projects. The Student Entertainment Board puts on two concerts a year, one on the first week of classes and the second in spring along with a carnival. Also the Entertainment Board puts on non-alcoholic events every month with activities ranging from staged entertainment, to movies showings, to doing-it-yourself crafts.

Great for these types of students

Really any kind of student can come here, it all depends on what you put into your education. Some people are very serious students and get a great education and have a good time; others are not very serious students and have a good time and also get a good education.

The Student Recreation Center is great! There is a pool with a water basketball hoop and volleyball net. There are a large variety of exercise machines. You can also rent different sports equipment like basketballs, tennis rackets, soccer balls, and much more. There is also an outdoor elevated ropes challenge course.

    Food and Dining

It's dorm food... The dining halls do a great job of listing healthy/vegetarian/vegan options and listing possible allergens associated with the food selection. The dining halls have pretty delicious food although it does get a bit boring after awhile.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great! Some dorms are nicer than others, it all depends on which one you get. All of the RAs are really nice and do an excellent job of helping you feel adjusted to a new life in college. There's a lot of fun things to do that the RAs organize. Also, central campus (where most of your classes will be) are uphill from most if not all of the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The introductory level courses aren't too difficult, the higher level courses often require a good amount of studying.

    Tips for prospective students

Find friends that enjoy what you like to do so you won't feel left out if your friends do something you feel uncomfortable with. Get to know your professors and teaching assistants! They really appreciate the effort you put forth to make sure you understand what's going on. Make sure to get involved with a club or intramural sports on campus!

There is a large sense of community at WSU, everyone (staff and students) are very friendly. A wide range of academics and quality of classes/professors. It's kind of a party school.

Never have I once been afraid of walking around campus. There are always people around on campus, 24/7! I've walked from greek row to the opposite side of campus in the wee hours of the morning and I never felt fearful anything was going to happen to me.

    Greek Life

I recently joined the greek community at WSU and it has been amazing so far! You meet so many new people, even after 2 years here. Its a tightknit community that watches out for one another and are very respectable people. They beat the stereotype for sure.

    Clubs and Activities

WSU Men's Crew is great for those that want to be involved in a real sport, travel, and compete without having to devote their life to the sport like the NCAA students athletes do.

Great for these types of students

WSU is great for those students that want a small town feel, without the boring small town lack of activities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No matter the time of day, if you walk down the street and yell GO COUGS you will get responses from everyone. That must pride.

    Bang for the buck

I joined the rowing team my freshmen and sophomore year which was the best decision of my life. I learned to balance my schedule, did well in school, and made a family for myself within the WSU community. My Junior year I joined a sorority and it was the second best decision of my life. WSU lets you have it all!

    What to do for fun

NCAA sports teams, intramural sports, clubs, Greek life, business fraternities, the wake boarding club and so much more.

    Food and Dining

The food was actually good, it got old the last few months of school but I do miss having dinner prepared for me whenever I wanted it!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are clean, safe, and not nearly as terrible as you may think. I absolutely loved my freshmen year in the dorms. The north side of campus is the best and closest to the rec!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't pick a school based on what rumor or what other people say, cause they hardly describe what your experience is going to be like.

    In three sentences

WSU is full of life, always something to do despite the small town, and is bursting with Cougar pride. The campus is the most beautiful I've ever seen, and often a selling point for prospective students. WSU students love their school and it shows with daily campus activities.

    What to do for fun

When there is a home football game, the games are very fun to go to. There is a lot to do if you are creative, Moscow is only 8 miles down the road, so take a bike and go there for the day, there are playing fields that a game of soccer could get started up, or just lay out on the grass next to stadium way and work on homework and soak up vitamin D at the same time.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, I am by Southside, which I have heard there food is the best. There is always plenty of options to chose from, and if you find nothing at Southside Filx market is next door and they have great milkshakes and burgers. I have not had a bad experience with the food here. But I do miss home-cooked meals.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are good. Me being a college freshman I have to live on campus, and my dorm is great. It's not like home but It is still great. It is a change, but I personally don't care if I have to walk down the hall to go to the restroom. Also my resident advisor is great, and that helps a lot.

    Academic Rigor

WSU is a great college, but like all others the classes can be hard. Just keep up with the work and you will do fine. The staff and professors are very helpful and want you to succeed, so go ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep up the good work and grades and you will be set.

WSU is a great college for any major I believe. The staff are great and everyone on the campus and in the town of Pullman are very friendly.

Great for these types of students

Extroverts, studious students and everyone in between. It is great for everyone

    What to do for fun

Snowboarding, hiking, running, golfing, rowing, really anything you would like to do you can find here at WSU.

    Food and Dining

There are numerous places to dine on campus and lots of options regardless of whether someone is a Vegetarian or not. The numerous options available can suit any taste.

    Dorm Life

There are many activities and events students can partake that are hosted by the Residence Hall Associations. Lots of opportunities to meet people, have fun and mingle.

    Academic Rigor

Lots and lots of papers that are written over the four years a person will attend school here. This has helped me professionally and allowed me to express my ideas on paper more coherently.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have a specific idea of which major you intend on going into before you actually attend college. Do your homework and research! If you switch midway through your college career you will lose credits and you may have to pay a ton of extra money to stay an extra semester or longer!

    In three sentences

The International Business program was the main reason I came here because it is in the top 20 International Business programs ranked among public institutions. The College of Business has allowed me to critically think and come up with solutions to marketplace problems that I previously would not have been able to do. Solely from the College of Business perspective, is the reason why I would wholly recommend this University to any incoming students.

This is the safest campus in the Northwest! There is no one around to commit any crimes. But just make sure you cover your drinks and make smart choices.

    Greek Life

It is very involved and a great experience, although I chose not to participate.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs of every sort and you develop any kind of club that you want! It is great, I am actually joining a flag-football intermural team soon.

Great for these types of students

This is great for really social kids and people who are not looking for a city-like campus. Pullman is very isolated and not very populated besides college students.

    Bang for the buck

Sometimes the main bookstore rips you off, but that is expected.

    What to do for fun

There is access to swimming and working out and various other activities but sometimes my friends and I have Disney movie marathons with lots of blankets and hot chocolate, those are some of the best days!

    Food and Dining

At first I did not miss home but after getting pretty much the same thing, I miss my mom's lasagna!

    Dorm Life

I live in a co-ed dorm where I have met some of the best people. I can definitely see some great friendships in the making and people that I can depend on for a lot!

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the program, since I am actively trying to get into the nursing program, I have a harder schedule than most majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for a lot of time in the books but do not be afraid to go out there and make friends. Everyone here is quite friendly and remember: everyone else is trying to make friends so do be shy!

    In three sentences

This is a beautiful campus full of a diverse student body and quality teachers. When here there is never a dull moment and you can experience your own freedom with out the hassle of parents or elderly people. Anywhere you stand on campus you can see an emergency station. From these you can push a button if you are in trouble and WSU police will be there within five minutes. Also Pullman is such a small community and everyone is community orientated. I feel just as safe walking home alone at night as a I do during the day light hours.

    Greek Life

I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega which is a social sorority and I absolutely love it!! There are so many nice people to meet and if you want to really feel connected in college I recommend joining the greek community.

    Clubs and Activities

There are quiet a few different clubs and activities for almost every major, sport, and social aspect that you can imagine. People should have no problem getting to know new people here because there is so much opportunity to meet people.

Great for these types of students

WSU is definitely a school for agriculture and veterinary majors. We are a very ag. based school. They also offer a lot of different majors but I would classify it as more of a research school then a liberal arts school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is this place known as Pullman's best kept secret aka Zoe's Coffee. Its a pretty awesome place to hang out and study because hardly anyone knows about it!

    Bang for the buck

WSU is actually getting really expensive. The tuition rate had the largest increase out of all the universities in Washington and we now have the highest tuition. It jumped about $1500.

    What to do for fun

Pullman has an awesome night life, specially if you are greek. Pullman also has different clubs and inter-mural sports that people can join. We have several different large turf fields and the football stadium is open to the general public.

    Food and Dining

WSU could have more options. The dinning halls are pretty good at the beginning of the semester but by Christmas time you get pretty sick and tired of dorm food. As for fast food options there are quiet a few around town.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely loved my roommate I got paired up with in the dorms last year. We are still best friends today and we hangout all the time. However some dorms are better than others. I stayed in Stephenson Complex my freshman year which wasn't very community orientated. My friend who live in McCroskey however loved it because there was such a sense of community. The dorms that are more centered in the middle of campus have better dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Academic Rigor all depends on what kind of major you have and what kind of work you are willing to put into it. I am a chemical engineering major so I tend to put a lot of time into my studies because my classes are relatively difficult. My roommate on the other hand is an AgTM major and seems to be able to scrape by just fine by doing the bare minimum.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and then apply for the WSU scholarship application!! There are so many scholarships that they are giving out every semester, for all different types of majors. It seems that like students who attend smaller schools have a lot more scholarship opportunities than students in huge schools.

    In three sentences

The thing that I love the most about WSU is that it is such a tight knit community. I also enjoy the small class sizes and the fact that a lot of your professors know you by name. WSU also has a wide range of different activities to do and the night life is awesome ;).

    What to do for fun

Outdoor recreation, go to the rec center, take advantage of speakers, meet your RA and other dorm personel so you have a go-to for help, meet new people!

    Food and Dining

It's a hard life for vegetarians up in Washington. The omnivore would love it here though, lots of meat variety and lots of unhealthy options. They do have a 500 calorie meal plan that is pretty easy to follow. Also, the food is pretty expensive and adds up fast.

    Dorm Life

Great dorms, but as expected roommates can be a pain. Be assertive at the beginning of the year so things are clear. It is less awkward to make guidelines before you walk in on your roommate doing something your'e not okay with.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on your courseload, but it is very easy to get behind, so stay ahead of everything! Take advantage of weekends!

    Tips for prospective students

Bring warm clothes. Don't party every night-seriously. Don't go to parties when there is the flu, whooping cough, strep, mono, or all four going around. Finish class work before doing anything else; it'll pay off later. Don't be stupid.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

While on this campus I have always felt safe, even walking home alone at two in the morning. There are always police out on the roads whether they are walking around, driving, or on a bike. We also have a service called Women's Transit which is almost like a taxi. It is a personal driving service for women so that they don't have to walk around campus alone. All over campus they put up these blue lights so that if you feel you are in danger you can push a button and a siren will go off to warn people. When there is something dangerous happening around the city and on campus, the school does a good job of letting people know what is going on by sending a mass text and mass email to the student body; keeping them update while the police handle the situation.

    Greek Life

I personally am not a part of greek life but I have plenty of friends that are. From what I have heard it is an awesome time when you join greek life. You get to meet so many new people and they usually stay in your life even after college. Greek life puts on many events such as homecoming, volunteering, and even concerts.

    Clubs and Activities

WSU provides a mass load of activities and clubs. They have sports teams, recreational sports, recreational events at the gym and many more. As far as clubs go, there are clubs that you would never think would exist. There is a harry potter club, a club that puts on concerts, volunteer clubs, and so many more.

Great for these types of students

If you are someone who wants to be at a very diverse school and you are really social and up to meeting people at all times, this is a school for you. It is a great school for someone who is willing to balance out the social aspect and the academics.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the most unusual locations on campus is the place where they keep big bears. They have a field and a giant fenced in area for the bears. I have never seen anything like it on a college campus.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of things to do for fun at WSU. The school provides all different kinds of activities, clubs and events. They put on concerts on campus for everyone to enjoy as well as carnivals and even an event called Up All Night. During one Up All Night, the school played a movie on the score board screen at the football field and everyone gathered onto the field late at night and watched it. And if you get the chance, it is always great to go and check out greek row, there is always something happening at those houses.

    Food and Dining

I do enjoy the food choices and restaurants that are provided to me on campus and off campus. We have a building called the cub where we are provided with a select amount of restaurants to go to any time during the day. There are also many restaurants downtown which is about ten minutes away from our campus. One of the more popular places for the students is called The Daily Grind, a coffee shop downtown. It is a great place to go hang out, study, or grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

    Dorm Life

My freshmen year I lived in a dorm. I have to say I did enjoy a few aspects of the dorm life. One being that I made too many friends to count. I still keep in touch with them up until today. I'd have to say the food is definitely something I enjoyed. Although at times it wasn't the healthiest option but it was always a big buffet of endless food. One thing I did not enjoy about the dorm was the noise. On weekends I didn't mind too much but on the weekdays it was always tough to get any homework and studying done from all of the distractions. Luckily I had the library near by.

    Academic Rigor

Because this is a state college, it is expected that the academics are going to be a bit tougher. WSU definitely goes along those lines. The professors have great intentions in helping you to succeed in your career following college. Although it may seem like I am being swamped with homework, exams and essays, at the end of the day I know that my professors are only doing it because they want us to have all the experience we need before we go out into the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

A few tips I have for expected students is to make sure you stay focused on your school and put your studies first, even if that means giving up weekends and late nights with friends. I'm not saying to only devote your life to school, I mean one of the experiences of college is to be able to go out and have fun and still be a kid while you can. That is why colleges provide those fun activities during the day and at night. If you find your self getting stressed from all of the work, take a study break and go on a walk or go to the gym. It is amazing what working out can do for you during crunch time. Overall just have fun and enjoy the college experience, it only comes once.

    In three sentences

WSU has given me the opportunity to find myself. Coming into college I was not aware of what I wanted to do. Washington State University provided different programs, career fairs, and awesome counselors to guide me down the right path in life.

The work load that professors assign is reasonable with in the time frame they provide you with, but getting behind on your homework for a few weeks can prove detrimental.

    Tips for prospective students

The hardest thing is learning how to manage the work load. Even if you're transferring in with a two-year degree, community college often has a much lower level of expectation. It's a delicate balance of home work, class attendance, and attentiveness during lecture.

The meals provided by these dining centers include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food include: pizza, sandwiches, burgers, fries, salad bar, fruits, cereal, pastries, cakes, ice-cream, etc. Drinks include: soda, juice, coffee, milk, tea, shakes, smoothies, etc. These dining centers are located north and south of campus and are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There are late night dinning centers that are open from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. for people who plan to eat later. The best dining center in WSU is Flix which serves juicy burgers and fresh fries, milkshakes, lattes, frappes, and Italian sodas. There are two television screens for football fans and pool table. Flix also sells convince store items for students.

    Dorm Life

There are coed, men's, women's, international, honors, and graduate student dorms right on campus. All residence halls offer dorm rooms with high-speed internet access, kitchens, laundry facilities, lounges, microwaves, study rooms, and sports equipment.

    Campus Safety

Although there are very small amounts of crime on campus, I was flabbergasted when the fire alarm goes off for the dorms, and the police take over ten minutes to respond. Their response time is supposedly under 30 seconds. If something does occur, I feel like the police would fail to respond in a timely manner.

    Greek Life

The sororities are dry houses, and several have been closed down because of having alcohol and encouraging underage drinking. Greek life here is the typical stereotype of Greek.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a vast amount of clubs here. There is a place for everyone. I happened to fit into the group of Humans vs Zombies. I met so many new people, while enjoying the game of hunting down humans to tag to turn them into zombies.

Great for these types of students

WSU seems to be made up of students whose goal is to party. As an engineer, I figured it would be easy to find other students whose focus is academics. Surprisingly, it is extremely hard. WSU would be great for outgoing students who also focus on academics.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There really are no traditions or locations here at WSU. Of course there are traditions for the smaller knit communities throughout campus.

    Bang for the buck

Everything here is outrageously over priced. It is required to pay for the recreation center, about 800 for the year. Then for English courses, students are required to pay 40 dollars in order to have access to printing and extremely new and expensive Apple computers.

    What to do for fun

As Pullman is a small town, there is very little to do unless it is on campus. The school does run quite a lot of activities, but the majority of them are extremely lame. Generally, every weekend students go home, leaving the campus dead.

    Food and Dining

Food is unbelievably expensive on campus. Freshmen must purchase a dining service (one thousand dollars) along with a dining plan (another one thousand per semester). So the six dollar fifth pound hamburger meal actually costs twelve. The food is almost always cold. In order to save several hundred dollars, get the lowest meal plan and frequently shop at Wal-Mart.

    Dorm Life

I live in Stephenson and the rooms are tiny. The dorm is also at the bottom of the hill of campus, so everyone gets a lot of exercise when living here. The walls are carpeted so students are able to hang things up on the walls. However, it is impossible to get a thumb tack or even a nail in the wall without it bending. The dorm is, not to mention, outrageously expensive. Very rarely is there ever anything to do in the dorm. Students also often set off the fire alarm when it is late at night and quite chilly outside. It takes the fire department over 30 minutes to allow students back in.

    Academic Rigor

I was beyond surprised how easy classes were. I expected to have enough homework that it would count as a full time job. I am taking 17 credit hours for bionengineering this semester, and I typically spend less than 20 hours on homework per week. A good portion of freshmen classes are just busy work.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend retaking the classes where one had left off in high school. Many students struggle if they continue after their latest classes. Repeating a class gives a good foundation to further academics. It really helps to take past exams for courses in order to help prepare and understand what will be asked on the new exam.

    In three sentences

As a future bioengineer, i was surprised when classes were much easier and slower pace, yet larger than I had expected. Unfortunately, the academics for a freshmen are exactly like basic high school requirements. However, the campus is extremely pretty and well-maintained.

    Clubs and Activities

I am on a club sport team, and we kick some butt! There are so many clubs and sports teams that there is no excuse to not be involved.

Great for these types of students

For any college town, football is a big deal here. There are some interesting bars just off campus that allow minors until 9pm so everyone can enjoy them.

    Bang for the buck

As an in-state student, the cost is alright. I feel like the tuition is high, but after graduating they have a high rate of employment.

    What to do for fun

The university makes sure there is always something fun to do on the weekends - free concerts and Up all Nights are common.

    Food and Dining

The dinning halls can be repetitive, the food is alright, I miss them now that I have to cook for myself.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of places to get food at Washington State however many places do close fairly early. I wish more dining centers stayed open later to help attend to the students who like to eat later in the evening.

    Dorm Life

I have enjoyed living in a dormitory so far because it has presented me with many opportunities to meet new people and surround myself with people interested in the same major as mine. I love the close sense of community and school spirit only found in the dorms on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I feel challenged in all the courses I have taken for my first semester as a college student. Every class stimulates your mind and I find the academic rigor a good opportunity to challenge my mind and expand my knowledge.

College can be a pretty scary step in life, however, once you realize how much freedom you have to do what you want, everything becomes one hundred times better. Campus Safety

Washington State University is very good about security. In every Residence Hall there is an RA on duty every night, and there is a phone number available on each floor in case there is an emergency. The Campus Police Station is located right at the heart of the campus so if they are needed, they are sure to get where they need to go as quickly as possible.

    Greek Life

I have never personally been involved in Greek life but that's just because it doesn't really work for me. But don't knock it until you try it, you never know it might turn out to be something unexpected that you really end up enjoying.

    Clubs and Activities

In the beginning of the year you will be introduced to so many different activities you will want to join them all. But the truth is, you have to leave some time in for studying and homework. So pick a couple that are on the top of your list and stick to them. Joining activities is a great way to meet new people and makes living away from home not so hard.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for all students, and there is always a place that anyone can fit in to.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No matter where you are or where you go, as long as you are in Cougar country our teams are always the best in our eyes. When you walk on campus there are tons of students wearing their cougar gear, it's sort of like an unspoken tradition. It's something everyone just does.

    Bang for the buck

Try to find a life that works for you, whether it be schedule times, activities, means of tackling homework, etc. But don't do it alone. Although you are somewhere completely new, be open to letting people in and forming some new friends. Don't worry the one's you have at home will always be there, but you do need some in the place you are now to make life on campus just as good as life at home can be.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of things to do for fun, it is just the matter of whether or not your going to be smart about it. Going into town with a group of friends is always fun, get into clubs and extra curricular activities, and come to our home games to cheer on our Cougs!

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining can be a little rough at times, but it is by far much better then eating microwave burritos and such everyday. Take advantage of the dining menus on the school website so that you know what's going to be served before you get there.

    Dorm Life

Choose your Residence Hall wisely, some are a bit louder than others and seem to be a bit more active during late hours. The best advice I can give you is room with someone you know if at all possible. In some cases, you don't always get the right match for a roommate the first time. Your dorm room is supposed to make you feel like a home away from home, if it doesn't, then maybe there are a few changes that need to be made.

    Academic Rigor

In order to keep up with lectures, read the sections and materials handed out to you. Form small study groups with a few friends/classmates, incite from another student really helps while learning.

    Tips for prospective students

Start good study habits now, they are key to a successful academic life. Also while it is nice to have some fun, keep in mind that you are there to learn, think before you act and make smart choices.

    In three sentences

Washington State University is one of the most diverse colleges I have ever experienced. Also there are cultural clubs (my old roommate is part of one) and sports clubs! I'm sure there are many more that I just haven't heard of!

WSU is located in Pullman where the school takes up the majority of the town and is surrounded by miles of wheat fields.

    Bang for the buck

WSU is worth the tuition price!

    What to do for fun

For fun, you could go to the amazing recreational center available free for students and play racquetball, volleyball, basketball, swim, run, lift weights, box or do other exercises! Also, there are free video games in our Compton union building(CUB). The basketball and football games that I have attended were a lot of fun also and there are many other sports to go support. There are also school events like Up all night events where students can hang out all night and get free food and socialize with some games and dancing.

    Food and Dining

I love the food at my dining hall and there is a wide variety but it has become a little old already. There are also options such as Panda Express, Subway, Carlita's and a pizza place on campus as well as various fast food locations nearby!

    Dorm Life

I recently just moved dorms and I love my new living situation! My past hall was decent however I was not a fan of the walking distance everywhere. The RAs are fantastic!

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

WSU is rated as one of the safest schools in the nation. I always feel very safe. There are emergency poles located in nearly every direction you look. If you are in trouble, all you have to do is hit the button on one of the poles and the Police will be there within 2 minutes. There are also great services like Women's Transportation that are free. Women have the option to call women's transportation for a free ride at night to wherever they need. These are just a few of many safety precautions at WSU.

    Bang for the buck

My only big complaint about WSU is the finances. While it is a fantastic school, it does cost an arm and a leg. President Floyd is working to keep tuition prices down, but with the economy the way it is now, it's challenging. WSU is a great school, but its greatness does come at a cost.

    What to do for fun

Some think that when you live in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing to do, but I found that to be so wrong! Pullman offers a variety of things to do for fun. Everything from bowling, to swimming to movies, Pullman's got the essentials covered. As for shopping, I'll admit, it's a bit sparse, but the Palouse Mall is only 15 minutes away and offers great shopping like Bath and Body Works, Ross, Old Navy and Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm never bored.

    Food and Dining

The food was great! I ate mostly at the Hillside Dining Center and got snacks from the Hillside Market. It's expensive, but it is good food. There were a variety of things to pick from, and a lot of healthy choices too.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Wilmer-Davis, and loved it. It wasn't what I thought it'd be in that I didn't have too many friends from the hall, but I didn't really care. My roommate and I have become best friends and have continued being roommates now in apartments. The location of being on campus is truly unbeatable. I miss that so much, but it costs so much money! That being said, there were a lot of fun activities offered to do as a group from the dorm. Overall, I had a great time living in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I come from Husky land so I grew up hearing the Cougars write in crayons, but boy are those huskies (as always) wrong! WSU has turned out to be an academically challenging and rigorous school. It is not so challenging to the point where you won't understand anything, but classes do require time and energy, just like they should. The goal is that when you graduate college you have a rounded education and you truly understand and can share about what you've learned in school to the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

Washington State University has been a great place for growth, because yes, it can be a very challenging place to be. When you're away from home, you really have to step up and learn responsibility and maturity. My advise would be to come mentally prepared for standing on your own two feet. College isn't easy, but if you come with a heart that is willing to work hard, it definitely pays off.

    In three sentences

Washington State University has been a wonderful school to attend both academically and socially. I have grown more here in 3 semesters than I had in the past three years! The teaching is excellent, the atmosphere is delightful and the people are kind and helpful.

    Campus Safety

At Washington State University there are police everywhere all the time! There are campus PD, Pullman PD, Campus Fire fighters, and Pullman Fire fighters. I'd say it's one of the safest campus's in the U.S., due to the excess amount of government authority.

    Greek Life

Greek Life at WSU is great. As a member of a fraternity I get to experience it first hand. The relationships you form with the members in your house last a life time. Also, the weekends are usually a lot of fun!

    Clubs and Activities

Washington State is a very diverse university, so there is are a lot of ethnic clubs and opportunities to meet new people. There are also many intramurals you can participate in. Sports ranging from flag football, to wrestling, to floor hockey. There are also clubs and activities you can participate in that correlate with the field of study your pursuing, such as International Business Club.

Great for these types of students

WSU is great for people who like a great education, a rural environment, an energetic student-run community, and a mixture of hot/cold weather.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A tradition during football season when the Cougars get a first down is the announcer says and that's another Cougar First Down!!. the crowd mimics the announcer and with your right hand you do the first down signal that the referee's perform when a first down is made. Also the Cougars vs. Huskies Apple Cup game is a really fun rivalry.

    Bang for the buck

Attending a university these days are very expensive. In-State tuition for WSU is around 25,000 a year. If you have the opportunity to attend Washington State, I'd say take it because it's a great experience and you'll leave a better person in all aspects.

    What to do for fun

Being trapped in a rural small town has it's ups and downs. One of the downers is that there isn't very many options when you want to do something fun. The town is relatively small, so it has one movie theatre, one casino, and a variety of cheap stores for us college students. A lot of the fun things that occur at WSU happen on campus or in the Greek community.

    Food and Dining

At Washington State there are 3 dining halls. The food these dining halls serve vary, but the food does get kinda old when you eat it all semester. WSU also has mini grocery stores connected to the dining halls that take RDA. The thing I like most about the food and dining here is the online food ordering website. You can order pizza, wings, and pasta from 8pm to 12am, and have it delivered to your dorm. Overall the food variety at Wazzu is good enough to keep your taste buds satisfied.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at WSU is pretty fun. There are a few dorms on campus that tend to be a little more conservative when it comes to socializing, but for the most part dorms like Streit and Perham tend to have an outgoing, fun atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

As a freshman, I'd give my last semester's difficultly a three out of five. The first two years of college are similar to classes taken in high school, but the difficulty settles in when you realize how large your class is, and how fast the professor is teaching the material. Another thing that takes adjusting too is learning how to study properly for an exam.

    Tips for prospective students

The number one tip for students considering any college, not just WSU, is learn how to balance your school work and your social life. Another tip if your considering Washington state is be prepared for hot weather Fall semester, and really cold weather Spring semester.

    In three sentences

Washington State University is a very large university in the middle of nowhere. The town of Pullman is run by the students, without us students there would be no business in Pullman. Overall, Washington State is great for you if you like independence, hot weather, really cold weather, and a electric enviroment.

    Campus Safety

Off-campus and on-campus, there isn't much crime drama here.

    Clubs and Activities

If you're into culture, you won't find much here compared to the western Washington area, but the clubs are here at WSU. Sport clubs are also available for those interested playing sports with less academic restrictions, and to have a lot of fun.

Great for these types of students

For those who like the outdoors, and want the college experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

How heavily this campus is well school spirited than any other college in this state.

    Bang for the buck

Cheaper than UW - Seattle, and in-state private schools, but a bit pricer than the other smaller public universities in Washington.

    What to do for fun

There's always the recreation center to maintain active lifestyles.

    Food and Dining

Majority of dining halls are restricted to RDA only. You can use student cash, which is like a debit account, but you won't get meal discounts compared to those who have RDA. The Compton Union Building has food, too, but there's not much variety of places to eat from there.

    Dorm Life

If you're a transfer student, and enjoy cooking a lot, dorm life would not be for you. Get an apartment instead where the rent is much cheaper in Pullman, and for better living quality. McEachern Hall isn't a lively dorm compared to the other residential halls at WSU, but it has benefits for being a quiet-apartment style dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Currently I'm taking prerequisite classes, which I don't find as challenging except engineering classes. Everyone learns the same Calculus, English, Physics. etc. Although, taking junior and senior classes within your program's major is a different story.

    Tips for prospective students

Do some research to see if WSU is your best fit college, and maintain a good GPA so earning scholarships, and other academic opportunities will make your life easier. Pullman is a rural town, but hopefully friendships you make will keep you here. If you're a transfer student, definitely have a set plan before transferring to your preferred university.

    What to do for fun

There are A LOT of school events and many clubs students can join for fun. There is also a big stadium that just got renovated and there are football games in the fall. Also there is a fancy gym for those students who wish to get in shape.

    Food and Dining

I have barely ate at any of the dining centers on campus, and work at one of them. However I have heard very few complaints and there are many food options on campus. There are 4 dining halls, 2 starbucks, subway, panda express, and quite a few others offered.

    Dorm Life

I transferred during my second year of college so I never lived in a dorm, I went straight to living in an apartment. However I have heard from others that they try to match people up with others that share some of their interests so they have a roommate that they can get along with.

    Academic Rigor

WSU is very serious about maintaining good grades. If you fail to many classes or have a low GPA you have to attend a seminar which is basically about how to be a good student. If you fail to get better grades then there is a good chance you will be unaccepted to WSU.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you keep your grades up and if you have a problem with your grade keep in touch with your professors. Many students have a hard time going from high school or community colleges to a big university and quite a few do not do well their first year of college.

    What to do for fun

Get involved! There are hundreds of clubs and volunteer opportunities here at WSU, probably because the town of Pullman is extremely small. Sporting events and live music on campus are also a huge deal.

    Food and Dining

There are actually a lot more food options than I thought there would be--specials of the day, salad bar, etc. After a few months, though, the food does become boring, but you can also spend your dining money at some markets and fast food places on campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are pretty well-maintained, and right on campus, which makes it convenient to walk to class or the dining halls. Of course, you'll likely have loud neighbors, especially on the weekends, but in my experience, the RAs have been very helpful in settling disputes.

    Academic Rigor

The Honors College here is very low-key with their assignments, usually requiring large final projects rather than large exams. Of course, every class has different standards. But if you're having difficulty in any class, free tutors are here to help you!

    Tips for prospective students

There are a bazillion hills in Pullman, so be prepared to get a workout going to class and build up your 'Cougar Calves.' The weather is also extremely bipolar--apparently it snows in May, so be prepared for that. Clubs and Activities

Many activities are offered here at WSU, with intramural sports clubs, clubs for your major, Greek clubs, environmental clubs, and so on.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition has gone up an extremely large amount even for in-state tuition paying students. I recommend this school to anyone who has the money to come here.

    What to do for fun

There are always sporting events going on whether there are football or baseball games. These are really exciting because WSU is so spirited and dedicated to their teams, win or lose. There are also intramural sports that are offered including, softball, volleyball, basketball, and so on that anyone can participate in. There is a recreational center also with swimming pools, indoor track, weight rooms, ropes courses, and much more. There is also many activities offered by the Greek System, where if you belong to a sorority or fraternity there are date dashes, exchanges, philanthropies, and much more.

    Food and Dining

The food is mediocre. At the cafeterias the food menu never changes, but the markets have a variety of foods that we can purchase. There are also a variety of delicious restaurants scattered all around campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is very welcoming and comfortable. I am in a Co-Ed dorm and everyone is inviting, fun to be around, and helpful. Cafeterias are close by, the dorms are kept clean with janitors here every day, and the RA's are very helpful if we have any questions or need help.

    Academic Rigor

Washington State University is challenging but rewarding. I am taking classes in order to get into the Nursing Program, professors and TA's are always there to help. There are also a vast amount of tutors for free and for pay to help with any subject.

    Tips for prospective students

A few tips for prospective students is to try and pick a major ahead of time, instead of trying to figure it out your first few years in college. This will help save money as well as get you a head start on the job you want to pursue. Another tip is to get work done ahead of time and get help if you need it, don't be afraid to ask. Falling behind in a class is the worst thing you can do. Lastly, another tip for incoming students is to take as many opportunities in college as you can. Whether it is joining a club, participating in intramural sports, going to sporting events, joining a fraternity or sorority, and so on. The experiences in college are so plentiful and valuable to the college experience to not participate.

You can find clubs to fit any of your needs. From clubs relating to your major, religious clubs of all kinds, and any type of sports team you can imagine.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Wave the flag. Current or former students bring the WSU flag on their travels around the world and take a picture with it.

    What to do for fun

There is always some sort of school sponsored event going on some where. The student recreation center was once the largest in the country and has everything you could imagine. There are tons of different clubs to join and there are sports events all year round.

    Food and Dining

The food is good and there is a lot of it. You can have whatever you want and any amount of it. There are fresh cooked meals that are simply divine and home baked goods that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great, never a dull moment! RA's are there to answer any questions, and to let you into your room at 2 in the morning. The cleaning staff is amazing and leave everything sparkling all the time. The hall communities are the best and a great way to make friends.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging and worth the effort. Most classes are taught by professors, even in the 100 level range. There is a fair grading scale.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to WSU! It takes a little getting used to but it is defiantly worth it. Everyone in Pullman is super nice and the teachers are all very helpful with any questions. Don't make your schedule too harsh, but never forget to study.

    In three sentences

A small town with a big purpose! Every student has an overwhelming sense of school pride, GO COUGS. A great place to learn, expand future horizons, and make new friends.

    Campus Safety

Safety is important anywhere on any campus. WSU has a womens transit program where they work from 8pm to 2 am if you are in need of a ride somewhere like if you are drunk or someone you are with is drunk , give them a call and they will come to you and help you get home safely. They also have a walking program where they will walk with you if you feel scared at night as well.

    Clubs and Activities

WSU has a lot of clubs around campus to get involved with, like the PIC club which is pacific islander club, learn about different Polynesian cultures, dances and customs. VSA which the Vietnamese student association, you can learn about their traditions, customs, culture etc. You can even make your own! There are tons of ways to get involved on campus.

    What to do for fun

Pullman is a pretty small town, although people say there isn't much to do the truth is , it's dependant on you. You can go biking to Moscow along the palouse trail, go exploring downtown, go workout at the rec center where there's tons of classes to take to help you stay in shape. There are bars if you are of age, of course partying (it's college !) and a hookah bar downtown too that is really awesome if you're into that stuff.

    Food and Dining

There's tons of dining on campus a long with local restaurants around town within walking distance of campus as well. WSU lets you choose a meal plan, there's 3 levels to choose from. This is called your RDA and can be used at the dining centers and markets located on campus. The food in general is pretty good and you have lots of options ranging from, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, pasta etc.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is an excellent way to meet new people, and have more opportunities to get involved. Here at WSU there are many dorms ranging from co-ed to same sex. The rooms are nice, you can double or if you prefer your own we do offer single rooms as well. They are expensive but for freshmen it is a requirement to live on campus the first year.

    Academic Rigor

The academic Rigor depends on you. The course load is a lot depending on the amount of classes that you take but it's not impossible. Just study hard, get to know your professors, go to free tuturing sessions that are offered in various places on campus and success is yours. You just have to make that choice to accept the challenge and keep moving forward.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! there are tons of clubs on campus, you can even start one! Go to class Study hard Have fun but remember why you're there

    In three sentences

Washington State University is an amazing school, the campus is beautiful, the people are so welcoming and when you're here you feel apart of something big. I've visited other schools but none made me feel like I could see myself starting my future career there until I visited WSU. The town is small, the campus, the atmosphere, the students and staff make it feel like a home away from home.

    Clubs and Activities

The school is very sports obsessed and the clubs are not as diverse or abundant as, say, WWU.

Great for these types of students

Conservative, car-hart, alcohol drinking types are abundant, but there is room for everyone else. It just takes more effort to find them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Make sure you check out the bears, the organic farm and the orchard on airport road!

    Bang for the buck

I feel like a lot of my tuition goes to ridiculous things like the rec, while my program can't afford basic equipment.

    What to do for fun

SEB events(concerts, speakers, dances etc), party, bowl, golf, geocache.

    Food and Dining

On campus dining halls are the generic mediocre dining center food with limited vegetarian options. Off campus, there are limited options that are decently priced. I always eat at the Thai Ginger, but I enjoy the old post office brewery place(mmmm lentil burger) as well. Don't forget to go to the bagel place in Moscow!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are lively and dramatic.

    Academic Rigor

The school is more of a graduate school than an undergrad school. Classes are easy because many professors go out of their way to talk to students out of class. Just beware of Bio and Chem courses, those are the ones that kill.

    Tips for prospective students

The conservative and rural area takes some getting used to. Get involved your first year and go to any table fair on campus because that is where a lot of information is as well as free stuff. Set up a 4 year plan if you can because the advisers will not hold your hand and some will put you in classes you don't need.

    In three sentences

WSU focuses primarily on Ag and football, so many other parts of the school suffer or are underfunded. There are many ways to get involved, but difficult to find them and require extra effort. A mixed bag of students, but I haven't found many progressive ones.

    Campus Safety

This campus is fairly safe and I feel comfortable walking at night. The only thing to watch out for is Greek Row at night, always have a friend with you when you travel on a party night. Other then that the cops are helpful and understanding and I feel safe on campus. Also the bus system is really convenient and nice for those who live off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a lot to do when one is creative and watches out for events put on by the school.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for those who are good at budgeting their time. At this school it is fairly easy to make friends if you open yourself up to others and try. This campus is also good for those who really enjoy sports.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The art building has a hidden stair case that is filled with graffiti done by past and present students.

    Bang for the buck

This all depends on where you live and how many grants are given to you. Relatively it is a lot cheaper to live off campus and if one budgets well then it is not hard to make living expenses, but tuition is relatively high.

    What to do for fun

If one is creative there is a lot more to do in Pullman then one would originally think. There is a few thrift shops, restaurants, pet stores and a mall relatively close. There is also activities like hiking, biking and other out door activities. There are also free movies, concerts, up all nights, and other school funded events posted for the enjoyment of students.

    Food and Dining

There are three dinning centers and a food court like center on campus. The good thing about the dinning centers is that they are usually easy to access and they have a variety of food available. They also contain markets so that one can easily obtains snacks, microwavable food, and other general items at the convenience of the student. Though there seems to be a lot of options most students do say that the food gets old after a while, but once one is in the apartments most miss the convenience that the dinning centers have.

    Dorm Life

I personally enjoyed dorm life for the social aspects and it is nice as a freshman to be in such close access to other individuals that are also just starting out at college. Though it was nice to meet people, it is hard having such limited space shared between roommates and also the noise level is a lot higher in the dorms then apartments. Another point to consider is that in Pullman apartments are a lot cheaper then dorms, so if cost is an issue then I would highly look into apartments.

    Academic Rigor

I have found that if I keep a schedule and use the resources provided at the school then I am able to excel at the academics within this school. Some classes are more difficult then others and always ask other students about good professors. Another point to keep in mind is that this school is relatively big, so some classes can have up to 300 individuals.

    Tips for prospective students

If one is planning to attend this school, then it would be good to try and create a schedule, so that necessary work gets done. Because Pullman is a small town, there are not a lot to do if one does not have a car or is not actively searching, this means that there is the temptation to lose oneself in the party scene of Greek life. Just remember to balance your life and you will thrive at Washington State University.

    In three sentences

This school is a great school for those who want to be apart of a community that is focused on the pride of their school and the traditions that are held. This school is very focused on sports and the Greek system, so one should know that there are quite a few distractions available to the student. An individual who is good at balancing school and play would do well at this school.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a good way to meet tons of great outgoing people. The do just as much stuff in the greek community as they do outside of it. There are stereotypes about greek people but they are absolutely not true.

I am in a sorority so I like to do activities with my sisters and also local greeks. We do a lot of community service and fun sisterhoods.

    Food and Dining

The food is great and lots to choose from. Very open dining area and places to sit and converse with other people. The cooks and servers are very friendly and want you to have a good experience.

    Dorm Life

The door life is a nice way to meet new people. The dorms are diverse in their own way to where there are plenty of options for you to choose from. The dorm food is really good and tons to choose from!

    Academic Rigor

Academics are very well set up. Each teacher wants to get to know you and your accomplishments. Teachers want you to succeed and do well!

    Tips for prospective students

I spend any free time I have with family and friends at the movies or just watching a show on t.v. at home. During the summer we go to the river or bbq in the backyard. I think it is important to make time for family and friends.

    Food and Dining

I have eaten at the dining facilities and find that the prices are fair and the food is great. It is a great opportunity to enjoy a little food and a great place to pull out your books and study.

    Dorm Life

I am an older student and live off campus in my home with family, but I think if it is available and it is what you want or need to do for yourself then you should. I only rate this at a 3 for the purpose that I have not experienced it and our campus does not offer it. Yet, I think it is a great benefit to students.

    Academic Rigor

One must be prepared mentally to dedicate many hours of study and attention to each class. It is a full time endeavor; if you are taking full time credits, it is an overtime endeavor. However, it will be worth it when you reach your goal.

    What to do for fun

Pretty much what one thinks of as fun: -Hanging out with friends -Attending sports games -Attending events -Free movie theater with the latest films -Eating -Playing video games (not too often) -Recreation center -Available locations outside of the campus if bored

    Food and Dining

Easily accessible if you're living at the dorms, and even if you don't, they're still there. The food is very good and can cater to needs that might only be found at home, so you can feel at home with the food as well. There are a wide variety for you to choose from and they provide different ethnic foods as well as for people who prefer healthy foods.

    Dorm Life

Amazing. My first year was very difficult because it was like going to school for the first time again. I didn't know anyone, didn't know what to do, and how to do anything. The dorms provide a way for those who are new to get to know people who might be on the same boat. I easily made my friends with my floormates at the residential halls. Recommended for first year students to experience living with roommates.

    Academic Rigor

-Good academics with difficulty (depending on what classes you take) -You have a large selection of classes and majors to choose from -Professors/staff are very open and available for you

    Tips for prospective students

You'll love it here! The transition from high school to college will be quite different and things will get a little more difficult, but once you're adjusted, everything will go smoothly. I too struggled a lot my freshman year, but after going through a whole year, I learned how to take responsibility for myself.

    Campus Safety

There will never be a time when you do not feel that your safety is important. Just recently after a professor was assaulted there was a $10,000+ reward placed by our University President for information, and at every possible occasion where a threat could be conceived an emergency citywide notice can be used at any time.

    Greek Life

WSU has one of the largest Greek Life systems in the state and it is a constant source of networking, as well as brotherhood. Though Greek Life can have it's strengths it is important to keep in mind that there is a large amount of partying at certain fraternities and sororities, and the environment can change you in a negative way if you don't know who you are yet.

    Clubs and Activities

The sheer number of clubs and activities at WSU is beyond measure, as there are enough clubs to suit every need and events for a plethora of different focuses. Multicultural events occur all year, along with sports games, fitness classes. and much much more.

Great for these types of students

WSU is great for a student who wants to go to college and get the college experience. If you aim to get away from home and become independent, experience a large number of diverse people, and grow as a person by seeing more than just what you've experienced then WSU ir right for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Take back the night is a yearly event to fight against violence, and the event often will attract large groups of people. The event continues to show that people can come together for the right reasons and rise up against violence.

    Bang for the buck

As a major University there is much to be desired for the price tag here. $28,000 each year simply for an in state student is a high price to ask of someone struggling to go to college. Even coming from a well off family I struggle to get by and will have a large number of loans by the end of my academics. For the quality of the classes and everything else it seems a terrible shame to overpay so much while watching the university spend enormous sums of money on guest speakers, comedians, entertainers, etc. when higher academics are needed more.

    What to do for fun

If you don't have a car it can be incredibly difficult to find fun things to do since there is not a large number of things to do nearby, but there are places to go at the University such as Flix Cafe or the commons building. Many dorms also have great things you can check out to use for fun like pool equipment, ping pong equipment and more. The greatest source of entertainment for me has been the Recreation Center on campus, which is in national ranking and has one of the best weight rooms I've seen. The Rec Center is known for being a constant source of enjoyment with several basketball courts, indoor soccer, outdoor volleyball and other outdoor sports, a pool, large hot tub, racquetball rooms, and more. There are also a large number of fitness classes that can be taken, along with tv lounge areas for watching sports.

    Food and Dining

There is no unlimited meal plan despite being a D1 sports school, which is pretty surprising. However, there can be a large selection of various foods depending on which dining hall you are at such as steak, sushi, salmon, monthly specials, etc. The specials that occur each day are worth looking in to.

    Dorm Life

It's important to keep in mind that dorm life isn't completely full of freedom since it is the University's property, but dorms at WSU can be great or terrible depending on where you are. Some buildings are new and very well done, while others do not appear to have been renovated enough in recent years. On top of this it can sometimes be difficult to deal with the large number of partying students on the weekends that can drift through.

    Academic Rigor

Courses are difficult at WSU but still manageable with proper focus, it's a mere matter of doing your best to stay on top of things and put the work first. This would get a 5 star rating but for the variation in teacher expectations, which are nowhere near the same as University policies.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fully trust what you hear, but make an effort to instead find out all you can on your own first. I was given poor information many times unless I found my way to the phone number of email for somebody at the top of the chain, and there are many things that you simply don't need which are recommended. In short, know all you can so you won't have to rely on others.

    In three sentences

WSU is a pride packed, unexpectable ride through college. There isn't any way to easily describe all that it entails in it's diverse campus. Though far from any large or major city, a determined person will always find fun and enjoyment in Pullman as long as they will put in the effort. While not given the same prestigious stereotypes as some schools like our rival huskies, cougs look out for each other as best as they can and are proud of their skills. The stereotypes against it do it an injustice as it is no different in it's shortcomings than any other school. It is a great place to go for both academics and friendships.

    Campus Safety

There were times where I felt a little unsafe. I often walked home in the dark and had to walk through a small wooded area near a large parking lot. This was when I lived in an on campus apartment which was actually located a little bit off of campus. There was an attempted rape in that same parking lot and a professor was also almost beaten to death on campus at 2 am by a group of drunk students. Stuff like that keeps me cautious.

    Bang for the buck

I would say the REC offers a ton fun options and clinics that are included in the tuition fees. I would say it's a pretty good deal for how much there is to do there. But it's only worth it if you take advantage of the REC center. Also, the included sports pass is awesome, again, if you take advantage of it.

    What to do for fun

I loved running all over campus and off campus. There are a ton of running routes and loops that take you both through campus and off campus on to the trail. I also enjoyed the Bouldering Wall before it was torn down for a football office. Also, the REC has a lot of fun things to do besides weight lifting and working out.

    Food and Dining

I ate at Southside which I found to have descent food. The breakfast's were really good but I did get sick of the food by the end of the year but nothing to really complain about. At least I was eating three full meals a day.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely hate the dorms. I lived in a coed dorm and rarely got sleep on the weekends. Also, the police were on our floor at least once a month either breaking up drama or picking up a passed out drunk kid duct taped to the wall. Definitely be selective when looking into dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I had some excellent classes and professors. The biggest problem was the students complaining about the challenges and teachers compromising and dumbing down assignments and curriculum from all the complaints.

    Tips for prospective students

If you like to party and love the night life then this is a school for you. My biggest tip for incoming freshman is don't let your adviser push you around. Most will throw out a heavy load but only you will know what you can handle.

    In three sentences

This school has potential but continues to lower it's standards by allowing on campus bars, lowering it's acceptance requirements, not cracking down on alcohol and crimes, and putting way too much money into the football facilities. This school is a huge party school and really big into the Greek thing. Football seems to be major priority which has cost a lot of campus space and caused some important recreational facilities to be torn down.

    Campus Safety

This campus is so dang safe. We have a women's transit, which is for woman AND men, who will walk with you or drive you home if you don't feel safe, or are intoxicated. There are emergency poles all over campus (not on Greek row strangely) where you can press a button and a policeman will show up.

    Greek Life

Interesting. It's really good for making strong friendships and staying social. It's easy to become a recluse in your dorm room. It's not always easy, but most of the time it seams the Greek students are enjoying themselves.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs. There are also a ton of activities too, like concerts and speeches by important people. There always seams to be something going on, but you have to keep your eyes pealed, ears open, and check your WSU email for events.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a humans vs. zombies game every semester.

    Bang for the buck

Everything is expensive there, so be prepared.

    What to do for fun

Uuuuuuh.... join a club? Work out? If you don't have a car, then it's going to be a drag ( I didn't have one, a few friends did though). Other than that, party I guess. But that gets real old real fast.

    Food and Dining

You'll need to take the bus or car to go to Walmart or a restaurant. If you're a picky eater like me, then you're going to hate the dinning centers. Southside dinning center is the best. They have small little stores next to the dinning centers so you can buy snacks, soup, and dairy products on campus.

    Dorm Life

You need to be an outgoing person if you want to enjoy a social life in the dorms. If not, join the Greek life so that making friends will be much more easier. If you don't poke your head out of your room often, you may find that you become alone and depressed. Happens to many students at WSU (or anywhere for that matter).

    Academic Rigor

For me personally, the work was too much. It happens to loads of people, but then there are loads of people who can handle the work just fine. As long as you go to class and do your homework, it should be no problem.

    Tips for prospective students

Always keep in touch with your advisor, especially the moment you feel you're having trouble.

    In three sentences

A great place for veterinary sciences. You either love it or hate it. Friendly and super safe environment.
