Great for these types of students

This is a great college for almost any type of student. There is a wonderful Greek life and hundreds of clubs/sports/groups to join. If you cannot find a certain group or organization that you want to join (which I doubt will happen) you can always create your own. It's a laid back school with many friendly people and not a lot of drama like high school.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and be patient when waiting to hear about your acceptance. They take a very long time to get back to you and don't try calling because that's a lost cause. No one ever answers the phone and you'll have better luck just showing up at the university and talking to a real person. (That's what I did!)

    Bang for the buck

It's a very good deal if you live in Pennsylvania because it's so cheap. The campus and classrooms are very nice and up to date. Renovations are currently being made to all the dorm rooms and academic buildings and the construction is already halfway done.

    Am enjoying being here

I've made a lot of great friends here but a lot of people commute. If they don't commute they are from 20 minutes away. I feel like everyone went to the same 3 high schools and therefore it makes it kinda clicky. Not many people are from out of state; a lot of people call it the 13th grade.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are challenging but most of the teachers are pretty cool and make learning fun. Although they don't baby you like most high school teachers so you need to stay on top of your work. Get on the teachers good side by going to class and by going to office hours. Also, do all homework and extra credit... it really pays off in the end!

Great for these types of students

West Chester is great for education majors. That's what the school is known for. The first semester here, you get right into your major and your studies. The other fields here are very in depth as well. I am in the art program here, and although it is not an art school, West Chester's art program is amazing. The faculty are so helpful and understanding. As your get to know the faculty better, the classes get even better. It's a great program to be involved with. I couldn't ask for anything more.

    Tips for prospective students

West Chester is a lot of fun, but you really have to learn how to manage your time here. It is really easy to get caught up in the party scene or to sit around and play video games all day. If you don't go to class and get your work done, you have no shot here. It's fun, but it's also a lot of work. You just need to find that happy medium and then you're good to go. Enjoy it and use your time wisely.

    Bang for the buck

West Chester is one of the cheapest schools you can go to in PA, but the education is still at an equal level to all other state schools. It's nice that with in-state tuition, I won't have to worry about being in debt up to my eyeballs for the rest of my life. It is so worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, the staff are friendly, and the people here are a ton of fun. Get involved! There are so many clubs you can join to meet people and living in the dorms is fun too. I have met so many friends through living on campus. It is a great experience and you chose how much you enjoy it.

    Am learning a lot

West Chester is a great school. There are so many great professors who are willing to help if needed.Do your work and be careful not to get too caught up in parties and you'll do just fine. Get involved, have fun, live it up. There is so much to learn here!

Physical education, general education, special education

    Tips for prospective students

Despite some of my negative experiences at this school, the overall majority of students love it here. It's a very lively campus with some great teachers and exciting classes. I like to party and have fun but I tend to be more focused on school. It's important to enjoy your time at college and make a lot of friends but you NEED to focus on school too. You'll regret skipping classes and not studying when your GPA keeps you from graduating on time or getting a great job or internship opportunity. Just keep your life in balance!

    Bang for the buck

Although this is probably the case for most schools especially in our economy, I personally think West Chester does not spend their money wisely. Firstly, out of state residents pay more than 3 times what PA residents pay. I don't see how this is a good method of attracting a diverse student population. If I could do the college application process over again, I would actually consider finding a school instate just because of the cost. Secondly, our tuition money and thousands of dollars in random fees are going towards building brand new dorms which are beautiful but so unbelievably expensive. Our money should be going to more important things like the HUGE parking issue on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

Unfortunately, West Chester is a big party school. This may be good news to some but campus partying causes a MAJOR amount of distractions. The purpose of college is to extend your education and if you're only looking to party, you might not be ready for it yet. A lot of West Chester students get caught up in the party/bar scene and struggle with their academics. Don't get me wrong, your college years are some of the best of your life - but if you neglect you're academics you'll struggle a lot when you're thrown into the real world. Other than partying, West Chester has a ton of activities to get involved in. The school spirit here is great despite not having big D1 sports to get into. The school size is getting pretty big so there's no trouble finding friends.

    Am learning a lot

West Chester is a great school, I just feel that I could have personally challenged myself a little more. If you're looking to get into any kind of physical education, special education, general education, this is a great school to consider. As a Criminal Justice student, I'm not getting as much out of the classes here as I was looking to get. The professors are great, but I would prefer some more stimulating classwork.

Great for these types of students

This school is good for anyone who likes to live near a city but not in it. It is also great for people who are very social or want to learn how to be very social. People who want to get involved in their school and have a good education will love this school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can try to get an apartment or a suite because they are more comfortable and they have free laundry and a kitchen/kitchenette. However, if you do end up in a dorm, it's not too bad. There are many opportunities here so don't be afraid to take them. The transition is not bad but you have to make sure to do your work and budget your time because no one else will make you. There is someone to help you everywhere you look you just have to ask for it.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very low compared to other universities. You get more out of your money than you think. Sporting events are free with your student id. They are constantly giving out t-shirts and prizes at different events. Most events have free food and drinks. A lot of the clubs and organizations hold free fun event members can attend. Your student id can get you discount at different stores in town. Honestly, you couldn't get much more for the price you are paying to go here.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a lot of different people here. You can make friends even if you are a very shy person. There are a lot of organizations to join and there is always something fun going on on-campus. There are $2 movies on the weekends and other fun activities such as game night and dueling pianos. The dorms are not the greatest but I've heard that the suites are fun. The stores are about a 10-15 minute walk from the campus so you don't need a vehicle. The parking is limited and the traffic can be annoying. Most people walk everywhere and the campus is very beautiful and pleasant. There are ups and downs and it just depends on what you like.

    Am learning a lot

Some classes are more challenging than others but I still learn a lot from them. I have plenty of work to keep me busy in most of my classes. The classes I have are lectures and I can't just sit and listen, I have to take notes to study from. Most teachers will give you homework but they won't grade them or even ask for them back. You have to finish them and study if you want to keep up with the class. Teachers also pay little attention to who's in class and who isn't, that doesn't mean you can skip classes or you will fall behind. If you find the class difficult, you can find a tutor to help you with the class. All in all, the classes are easy if you are willing to work for your grade.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students pursuing a degree in any of the majors offered at this institution.

    Tips for prospective students

If you go to class and do your assignments, you will succeed in your classes. If you look at your schedule and notice a class that may be difficult, sign up for a tutor the fist day of classes. Tutors are first come, first serve. Do not sleep through your classes or refuse to study because you don't want to be behind in your classes. Being behind will only hurt you in the end and it will reflect in your GPA.

    Bang for the buck

I am receiving a high quality education for the relatively low price I am paying to attend West Chester University. There are great professors at this institution.

    Am enjoying being here

Living in the dorms is quite an experience. I have met so many great people and have established many life long friendships. Leaving the door open while you're in your room is a great way to meet the people on your floor. Don't be shy to walk down the hallway and introduce yourself to others. There are plenty of activities held within your residence hall, which is a great way to meet people. The food on campus is quite good. There are many different options on and off campus for dining. Many places will deliver to the dorms free of a delivery charge, which is a plus. The campus and the town itself is very pleasant. The stores are about a ten-fifteen minute walk, so a car is not needed on campus.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much already at WCU within one semester. The professors aren't going to baby you, but will definitely answer your questions and will help you to the best of their ability. Office hours are very useful and it's a good way to show the professor you care about what you are learning in class, and most importantly your grades.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of West Chester's favorite traditions is Banana Day! Before finals week during the spring semester, West Chester goes bananas! You can't walk five feet without seeing, smelling, or even hearing bananas. All day, bananas are free to eat and students can compete in games and activities to win a coveted banana day t-shirt that changes every year. It's a day you'll always remember and will never have this much fun with a fruit.

    What to do for fun

Almost everyday you will see people just hanging out in the quad doing whatever it is that they love to do. There are plenty of concerts and shows going on year-round if you are into the arts. There is also nothing like making new friends and spending quality time with them. The town of West Chester is literally a five minute walk from North Campus. You'll find little boutiques, restaurants, convenience stores, etc. If you're looking for something fun to do, the town has you covered.

    Food and Dining

The food is really good at Ramshead food court in Sykes. There are plenty of options, and it generally makes taking food on the good a lot easier. Lawrence Dining Hall is pretty good as well. The food might not be as great as Sykes, but if you're more about quantity than quality, by all means Lawrence will be your heaven. The diner is also really great and it stays open way later than either of the two mentioned above.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here aren't all that bad. Tyson Hall and Goshen Hall are definitely the nicest of the traditional North Campus housing. If you're lucky enough (or rich enough) to live in the affiliated housing, then you are certainly in for a treat. Though living conditions might be better in affiliated, there's just nothing that compares to the friendships you make in the traditional housing.

    Academic Rigor

I personally sailed through high school with little to no problems, so when I got to college I expected nothing to change. West Chester does pride itself in its academics though, so I had to step up my game only slightly. If you're willing to put in a little more work, West Chester is definitely worth it!

    Tips for prospective students

Whether you are only considering attending West Chester University or you have had your heart set on this place since birth, there are a few things to know before you dive right in to the purple and gold. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there on orientation weekend! It may feel like you're being awkward, but truth is people are grateful to have company around them in a similar situation. Also, GO TO CLASS! That being said, professors are professors for a reason: they know what they're doing. Don't be afraid to speak to your professor about anything you are unsure of in a class. They really are there to help! And lastly, the food here is actually good! I promise you will always be able to find something to eat at almost every hour of the day.

    In three sentences

West Chester is the absolute best choice for anyone who is looking for a place to grow academically and socially. The campus is the perfect size: small enough to not get lost, but big enough for plenty of places to meet up with friends. The students and faculty are all incredibly supportive of one another, creating an accepting and judgement-free environment. Go Rams!

Great for these types of students

All students. There's a place for everyone at West Chester University. There are lots of fun and different people. Not everyone goes out to drink and party. Many have fun in other ways and the university has so much to offer.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved early. I joined the marching band and I don't think I would have been able to survive my first semester without it. It helped me make my first friends. When you get involved, you're happier and more positively social, rather than going out to party after party and getting drunk with strangers.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student, so it is more expensive for me to attend. On the other hand, I have friends who attend in state schools in NJ and they cost as much as West Chester University's out of state students. And though there are extra fees for parking and recreation, it is well worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Because there are such diverse groups of people, it was really easy to make friends. I think it is impossible to not make friends here. The most enjoyable part of being here is the school pride. Everyone is so school spirited and it spreads to even the most shy and soft-spoken.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot. The teachers are very helpful, especially if you come to class, speak up, and attend office hours. The more familiar you become with a teacher, the more willing to help they become.

    Campus Safety

It's a dry campus, with nightly security as mentioned prior. I never feel threatened, no matter the time of day. Given there are incidences, but this is America after all. This campus is well protected. There is a police station located on the edge of campus.

    Greek Life

As mentioned above, as a member of Greek Life i can say that our community is growing. Greek Life isn't a gigantic part of campus life in West Chester, but those who are involved love being a part. We work extensively with the local community and each other, ultimately forming interrelations between all Greeks.

    Clubs and Activities

As a member of Greek Life on my campus I can speak from experience that our activities both on and off campus are a lot of fun to get involved in. The people that you meet, and the connections that you make will last a long, long time.

Great for these types of students

    Great for literally any individual

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Banana day is a day during the spring semester where the campus comes alive with games, races and other sorts of activities rewarded with t-shirts, food and of course... bananas.

    Bang for the buck

Being a state school, definitely worth the money. I couldn't imagine paying 5x as much money to go elsewhere that doesn't offer half of the amenities that WCU does

    What to do for fun

As I mentioned earlier, attractions like King of Prussia mall and Longwood Gardens are a stones throw from campus for students with a means of transportation. For closer-to-home fun, the town of West Chester is within walking distance for delicious food and boutique shopping. There are also plenty of parks for recreation in the area. Finally, there are dozens of clubs and organizations on campus that will allow you to extend your social circle and make lifelong friends

    Food and Dining

Probably my least favorite aspect of WCU is the dining services. The food is good for the most part, but like any student, I'm going to complain about over pricing.

    Dorm Life

Having lived and worked in the dorms, both traditional and suite style, for 2 years, I can honestly say that WCU dorm life is a great experience. People on each floor are often seen bouncing from room to room visiting friends. The facilities also provide necessary kitchen access, fitness equipment, and night time security in each building. Residential Assistants offer community activities to allow residents opportunities to bond with others in their dorm over fun activities.

    Academic Rigor

Having come from a College Preparatory High School, I was very prepared for college, but I find most of the classes and educators to be very engaging and interesting. Professors are fair and offer plenty of opportunity for discussion outside of the class room if I am ever struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let one bad visit/experience taint your perception of West Chester University. 95% of the days in West Chester are beautiful and sunny, and the people that you meet here are friends you will cherish until the end of your days. Sure that experience is available at any secondary educational institution, but I find that West Chester just has a really nice blend of individuality.

    In three sentences

My favorite aspect of West Chester University of PA is the quiet, quaint college community. You're just minutes away from Philadelphia, Delaware and Maryland in one direction, and farm country in the other, with attractions like King of Prussia Mall and Longwood Gardens virtually around the corner. The peace and tranquility of this college town has a lot to offer the individually both mentally and physically.

Education majors. You will like its small town feel but also will enjoy its close proximity to a large city. Ignore the bad things you here about Philadelphia. The bad stuff happens to the people doing bad things or just not being careful. I've lived in the city in not too great of a neighborhood and I haven't had ANY problems.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get caught up in the parties. It can be fun but keep in mind the reason why you're attending.

Great for these types of students

Students who like being able to talk to their professors about class- related questions should attend this school. It is also a place for students who want to go to a school that emphasizes diversity and equality. They have resources for black, female, foreign, gay, and lesbian students. Many of our sports teams are excellent, and the marching band is absolutely incomparable! Many sports make it to the playoffs, our women's soccer team won the league championship this year, most of our club sports compete against Division I schools, and our marching band is comprised of about 300 members, many of whom are music majors or drum corps participants. There are numerous service, social, and honor fraternities and sororities to join; all of whom do a lot of good things for the school, community, and charities. Anyone who is interested in teaching, music, science, health science, or liberal arts programs would be pleasantly surprised here. Any student can find their niche at West Chester University of PA!

    Tips for prospective students

Time-management is a very important skill at school. Planning out a study schedule (and perhaps a workout schedule) is very useful, so you don't forget about assignments, are ready for tests, and so you have a way to manage stress. Also, always put academics first. If friends invite you to a movie night, but you still have an essay to write, always choose the essay. The legendary story about the freshman 15 is also true. If you want to maintain your weight, make sure you avoid the desert bar when you can. Sometimes it is tough, but it is important. Nutrition facts are available in the dining hall, which is very useful.

    Bang for the buck

This school is a great value. All kinds of academic and career resources are available, including a tutoring center, writing center ( reviews essays of all types), a career center (helps undecided students with a career choice, helps other students with resumes, and organizes internship fairs), and freshman interest-group dorm communities. Also, laptops are very handy tools but, if you don't have money to buy one, or your computer breaks during the school year, there are computer labs with printers all over campus that are available to all students.

    Am enjoying being here

I really like attending this school. It is a medium-sized school; big enough to have a large range of class options, and small enough to have small class sizes. The largest lecture hall classes do not have more than about 80 or 90 students, and a majority of classes have about 25 to 30 students for one professor. Diversity and equality are emphasized at this school, and it has resources such as the Multicultural Center, Women's Center, and Black Student Union for this reason. Most buildings on campus were built in the 1800's and early 1900's, which gives the campus a lot of character, there are many food courts to choose from, and the academic quad is very busy and relaxing on warm spring days. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, and two indoor pools (with free-swim hours), sport clubs and teams, and a variety of interest, volunteer, academic, and major-specific clubs to choose from. Additionally, there are $2 popular films at the Student Union building during the weekends, and a recreation center is under construction!

    Am learning a lot

This school is the optimal place to learn. Professors do all of the teaching and legwork; there are no Teaching Assistants (TAs). Most professors are very approachable if you need help, and appreciate questions. I have an important message for incoming freshman; in college, no matter where you choose to go, you will not learn very much unless you study outside of class. There is too much course material to memorize after attending a class, so studying 2 to 3 hours for each hour spent in class is crucial. Most professors have office hours that allow you to ask questions if you have trouble with anything or don't understand something outside of class.

    Tips for prospective students

Its a pretty cheap college compared to other's and the school is sorta growing on me.

    Will enjoy being here

So far I'm not to sure about this one. It's hard to get any attention from the offices unless you are right there in their faces trying to talk to them over the phone is completely useless. Otherwise though the students and faculty that i have met are pretty nice so it won't be to hard to make friend if you're from out of state but, most if not all the students went to the same if not close to the same high school so they will definitely be in their own little cliques if their freshmen.

    Will learn a lot

So far what I've seen is that this school is very serious about academics so I am expecting to learn a lot in the classroom. There also is some diversity in clubs at the school so I know I can learn a lot outside of the classroom as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Go on to places4students.com to find a place to live. I did this, and I'm so happy to be living in the middle of West Chester, close to campus, with 3 great roommates!

    Bang for the buck

If you're looking to go to a medium sized school, that has a lot of groups and opportunities for diversity, WCU is the place for you. The tuition is reasonable, and the classes are worth your attention.

    Will enjoy being here

It is going to be so exciting! The student population really does shape the town of West Chester. During the summer, a few students stay and enjoy the town life, and during the school year you'll have no trouble getting acquainted with neighbors and making new friends.

    Will learn a lot

You'll love it here. The classes are reasonably proportioned so that students don't feel left out because of too many peers. Most of the professors have actually attended WCU and are thrilled to be your instructors. Keep to the books and don't get too carried away on the weekends, and you'll find yourself with all A's!

    Campus Safety

Campus security is always available. Most of the campus remains well lit. There are emergency phones always close on every street, but it isn't likely that you need them. There are few assaults and crimes committed on campus but when they are, campus safety alerts the campus community almost immediately. You can arrange for campus safety alerts to be sent right to your phone. The few assaults and crimes are usually due to incidents of extreme intoxication or people making unsafe decisions. As long as you do what is safe you should have nothing to worry about.

    Greek Life

There are plenty fraternities and sororities to join. If you look and go to the many information sessions that they have, you will surely find one where you feel like you belong. Many of the Greek organizations do great things for the student community as well as the community of West Chester and beyond. Don't fear hazing because the campus has a very strict no hazing policy. The Greek life is friendly and united.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a HUGE list of things to do at West Chester. There are so many clubs for just about any interest and many organizations that do great things. There are groups for simple fun and there are also groups that do many great things to contribute to charity and to the community. There is so much wonderful campus environment.

Great for these types of students

Honestly, West Chester is great for any kind of student. It is a very diverse community with students of all types and personalities and interests. Whatever you like to do or whatever you have a passion for there is a place for you on this campus. Of course you will thrive all the more here if you like a fun and upbeat setting.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Homecoming is one of the greatest events on campus. It is always so much fun to see the parade and be with everyone cheering and screaming united. The whole campus comes together for such a fantastic event!

    Bang for the buck

West Chester is most definitely one of the most affordable schools out there. Even on a tough budget it is affordable and manageable! And of course there are also PLENTY of scholarship opportunities from the school (not to mention all of the other scholarships out there).

    What to do for fun

For one thing there are plenty of clubs and organizations on campus. If you have a passion or an interest there is definitely a group for it on campus. The student union building also hosts many fun events, including movies on the weekends as well as Sykes After Dark on Fridays, when they have many activities and even different guest entertainers. Even in the dorms the RA's are always hosting fun events and socials. You can always have a good time. If you want to get off campus, even if you don't have a car it is a short and convenient walk into town. High St. has many restaurants and cute shops. The town has such a nice atmosphere that you will enjoy merely walking up and down the streets. There is always something to do in West Chester.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall food isn't terrible. It is college food, so you probably will get tired of it after a while, and it isn't exactly like home-cooked food. However, it isn't really bad. Luckily, when you aren't in the mood for the dining hall, there are also other places on campus to eat. You can get custom-made sandwiches and salads in the student union building. There is also the campus Diner where you can get sandwiches, fries, milkshakes and more all the way until 2am. Of course everybody loves the Einstein Bros. Bagels and Starbucks conveniently on campus!

    Dorm Life

For traditional dorms the living facilities are very decent. Though some of the buildings are old, they are still livable and kept pretty clean. The RA's are VERY nice and always around. You can talk to them about anything. They are always happy to help or just have friendly conversation with you. It can be that one thing that cheers you up after a tough day. The other students in the dorm also get along well. Depending on what floor you're on, sometimes the floor as a whole becomes very close and you might already have a group of people to have fun with.

    Academic Rigor

Classes will vary in difficulty, but there is definitely a challenge. You will learn a lot from your courses and they have so much to offer. It may seem overwhelming at times depending on your degree requirements and specific course schedule, but it is definitely manageable. You will really enjoy your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early. More and more people are applying to this school so the sooner that you get your application in, the better. Also come visit campus before you make your final decision, so that you can be sure that West Chester is right for you. It is easy to sign up for a tour online. There are many time slots available every week. The student tour guides are very friendly and knowledgeable and are always happy to answer questions.

    In three sentences

West Chester is a very well-rounded university with so much to offer at such a reasonable price. It is a great place to discover new interests and follow your passions. Everyone attending this university is united and proud to be a Golden Ram!

    Tips for prospective students

Try to remain in contact with your advisor or find a good teacher to talk to. Its really easy to get lost in the woodwork here.

    Bang for the buck

Great inexpensive school overall. Selective for a state school, and affordable. Has enough extracurricular and internship oppurtunities to be worth the experience.

    Am enjoying being here

Teachers have limited interactions with you, and seem to be there for the paycheck. I have yet to personally meet a teacher who seems genuinely interested in teaching students.

    Am learning a lot

The first two years of school felt like a much easier review of high school. I am currently in the middle of my junior year and for the first time I feel as though I am learning a substantial amount of new material. I went to a competitive high school and was an honors student, so what is review for me isn't for some of my classmates.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state tuition is absurd. You're paying almost 3 to 4 times as much as in-state students.

    What to do for fun

The surrounding areas are really populated so there's a lot of options. If you're good at making friends, you hang out at people's houses or walk around up town. If you're 21 the bars are a blast.

    Food and Dining

The meal plan is pointless because it's so expensive, the food in the dining hall is gross, and if you eat anywhere other than Lawrence they charge you for multiple meals. Thus, you run out of meals by midweek.

    Dorm Life

Everything's out-dated unless you're lucky enough to live in the 3 new buildings. Campus security and local police are overly strict.

    Academic Rigor

The education program really prepares you for the real world; however, not all professors can be considered quality instructors.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to figure out everything on your own. If you're from out-of-state you're not going to get any financial assistance

    In three sentences

    Clubs and Activities

Within the first weeks of a new semester clubs set up tables to introduce themselves to students. Far too many to choose from is the only negative.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sykes After Dark every Friday-Sunday playing movies just out of theaters and live specials such as comedians, magicians, and gymnasts. Banana Day, where everything is made out of bananas and the campus turns into a carnival. Baker Bob, the coolest old guy ever, comes to Lawrence every Wednesday to make a free special treat.

    Food and Dining

On campus alone is Lawrence Dining Hall, The Diner, Starbucks, Java City, Chick Fila, as well as a small grocery store and freshly made meals to go. The campus itself is surrounded by tons of restaurants offering student discounts.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is practically a must with all the school functions, clubs, and town events held each week. The dorms themselves are expectantly small, but you'll hardly spend time in there anyway.

    Academic Rigor

During the first few hours of orientation we are all asked to take out our cell phones and program the Campus Security number into them. They respond very quickly and take all the actions necessary to ensure the safety of the students.

    Greek Life

It's not to the point of being annoying, but there are many different sororities & fraternities that do not judge people in the ways the movies make it out to be. They are open to all kinds of people and always seem to bring a lot to the campus experience!

    Clubs and Activities

There are well over 100 clubs on campus and over a dozen more activities! From Ultimate Frisbee, to Greek life and an insane amount of cultural clubs; they have an amazing Performing Arts program and tons of vocal/acting activities all year!

Great for these types of students

Outdoorsy and sporty students will have plenty to do but so will the kids who like to hang out inside - Lawrence and Sykes are perfect for that!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have a paint-a-pot close to campus that's interesting and super affordable. The salvation army is close by as well as Kiwi - an amazing fro-yo stop. The Hanging of the Greens and Christmas parade really brighten the place up! The events at Sykes are always fun, especially the concerts & Rocky Horror Picture Show night!

    Bang for the buck

I think it's definitely affordable and worth it for an instate student! Looking back, I feel like it was pricey for an outofstate student. But the experiences are wonderful and the staff seems to enjoy their jobs and be very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise so I believe it's worth it!

    What to do for fun

There are always pickup games of something going on in the Quad. West Chester always has events going on or fun places to go on walks or trails to hike. It's also a short drive to the Exton & King of Prussia malls! And obviously there's the night life. Sykes is always doing something crazy on Friday nights! They typically have a theme each week with tons of prizes and food and fun things to do - for free!

    Food and Dining

The Diner is pricey but delicious, though they do run out of milkshake flavors early and get busy alot. Lawrence is amazing, full of variety and vegetarian options! If only they were open later... Sykes is alright, Taco Tuesday is delicious but honestly one of the only reasons I eat there besides the sandwiches.

    Dorm Life

My entire floor was so welcoming and fun. We had group massages and chilled in the hall ways on a regular basis. I am still friends with the people I lived with two years ago!

    Academic Rigor

I could get away with not studying in a few classes; I didn't always need the textbooks and the teachers typically were very helpful with making their assignments/teachings make sense. Email and office hours are a blessing! I always made sure my assignments were completed ahead of time and it really paid off!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't feel overwhelmed! West Chester is a large campus, but most of the students and friendly and helpful, much like the staff. The food is actually really good. The newer dorms are gorgeous and totally worth the extra money! Buy your books used whenever possible! There is a local used book store that's phenomenal at saving you money! Take a course with Dr. Helion - it will change your life.

    In three sentences

West Chester has a beautiful campus and is located close enough to entertainment/activities/big cities to leave students with plenty to do! There are plenty of things to do on campus, and if you don't feel like leaving your dorm, the traditional halls normally have activities going on daily.

    Bang for the buck

Most of my teachers have been awesome! The only complaint is the Math department. (all but one of my teachers in that department have been awful)

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities, clubs, intramurals and more on campus. If you don't know where to go for any of these activities no worries the entire student body gets a weekly email listing all of the extracurricular activities the university has to offer!

    Food and Dining

Food is food. Not the home cooking mom can make, but it is an alternative I didn't mind having. Being away from the home cooking only makes you appreciate mom's cooking when you go home for breaks!

    Dorm Life

Highly recommend going into traditional dorms! You meet all sorts of characters there, and some of them may turn out to be your friends for life.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not necessarily mind busting hard, but they are academically strong. Basically they make you work for your grade, but the teachers are there to help you achieve that A you know you can get!

    Tips for prospective students

Stay ahead of your classes! Don't be afraid to ask questions and if you really are struggling ask for help, there are many people available to help you!

West Chester is a state school that cares about it's students. Many different organizations! You'll be sure to find the perfect fit!

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous activities out there for any and all kinds of students. Greek life too!

Great for these types of students

    Any and all!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each year there is a holiday parade. It is extremely fun and the marching band plays every year.

    Bang for the buck

If you live in Pennsylvania it's great. If you're out-of-state it's over priced.

    What to do for fun

There is a downtown setting with great food and shops. However, the shops are very expensive. The sidewalks are dangerous.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright. There aren't much healthy options unless you go to Lawrence dining hall. However, you need a big chunk of time to do that because it's not close to any academic buildings and you have to sit and eat.

    Dorm Life

It depends where you live. The old dorms look like jail cells. The new ones are over priced but extremely nice. South Campus apartments provide you with your own kitchen, however you have to take the bus up to north campus. The village is nicer than South Campus Apartments but it is a full year lease meaning you would also live there over the summer or rent it our to other students.

    Academic Rigor

General education courses are pretty easy. Classes within your major and difficult. You have to achieve a C- or better in all of our classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships! Be aware of your surroundings. Wear a coat, it gets cold. Don't be afraid to ask for more money!

    In three sentences

Great value for in-state students. If you're out-of-state or in particular, from New Jersey, you won't get a lot of financial aid. Great music program with an even greater faculty.

    Campus Safety

There have been incidences in the past but we have the emergency blue buttons placed throughout the campus that, if pushed, will alert public safety and you can get accompanied to your destination if you do not feel safe to do so on your own. Each dorm on north campus has a member of public safety that arrives at 8pm every night to make sure the dorm is safe.

    Greek Life

There are numerous Fraternities and Sororities at West Chester, some are Greek and some are Honors/ Service. Fraternities have houses and for Sororities, there's a certain number of girls that are allowed to live together.

    Clubs and Activities

I can't even begin to count the number of clubs that have been started at the school. There is one day at the beginning of each semester that the existing members/ leaders of the clubs set up a stand and advertise for their clubs, trying to get new members. This event is a great way to get involved in a club of your choosing.

Great for these types of students

Students wanting to major in Health and Physical Education as well as Music education. We have a great art program as well and our science building was just redone within the past few years.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Banana Day happens once a year in the second semester. Student activities committee dresses up and hands out treats made from bananas. There is usually a T-shirt that students can win by doing silly things related to bananas: answering questions, acting like a monkey, ect. The woods down at South campus are a great place to talk a hike, I feel like not many people that live/ take classes on North campus know about this.

    Bang for the buck

If your going out to eat, appetizers are usually big enough to serve me as a meal, some of the resturants are pretty pricey. The South Campus apartments are just a little more money to live in but they are so much nicer than the dorms, however they are more secluded and you need to buy your own food unless you want to pay for a meal plan which wouldn't make the move worth while.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do if you are willing to walk/ drive into town. There are restaurants, bars and shops. Nightlife is usually hopping during the weekends.

    Food and Dining

There are many places to eat on campus, however most are extremely over priced. The dining hall is great for about the first month or two and then they start serving the same things over and over.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Wayne Hall and Goshen Hall during my career at West Chester as well as the South Campus apartments. Wayne hall was pretty gross, cockroaches everywhere but Goshen Hall was a lot of fun, more the community setting. Dorm life is a great opportunity to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

The math department is pretty rough just considering that most of the professors aren't that great, but most, if not all professors are willing to help students with class during office hours.

    Tips for prospective students

Take your general education classes at HACC or RACC to save money and get through them first, then transfer in to West Chester. Parking is a pain due to specified hours allowed to be on the street as well as parking meters; public safety and the borough police love to ticket.

    In three sentences

West Chester University is an outstanding academic opportunity that offers many different majors but is known for its Education departments. Tuition is very manageable through financial aid and West Chester is one of the cheapest state schools. The professors in the general education departments are mediocre, however the professors in most core classes are spectacular.

    What to do for fun

The Brandywine RIVER!!!! best outdoor activity.

    Food and Dining

Food at the traditional dining hall is mediocre. But you will definitely get by.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus was the best experience of my life! Sanderson hall was a close knit community and I made the best friends of my life there. WCU is the best on campus community in all of PA.

    Academic Rigor

Prospective students should be wary of West Chester's difficulty level. It is not just a walk in the park, and most certainly is not a drinking school if you plan on actually getting good marks. Be ready for immense workloads for each class, and large amounts of critically reviewed writing. No reason to deter prospective students, just to let them know what they're in for.

    Tips for prospective students

Get ready for the best time of your life! Aside from Greek life that is very widespread at WCU there are a plethora of activities in a wide range of clubs.

    In three sentences

West Chester University of Pennsylvania is an institution of academic excellence. This state school offers students well rounded degrees that require rigorous work on a higher education level than most have experienced. Campus Safety

Great campus safety... police sit in the front of doors & monitor who comes in after 8pm every night until 4am. There have been many assault attempts on campus recently, but if you're smart about where you're walking, campus safety will protect you!

    Greek Life

Many different frats & sororities... but they are expensive! Make sure to rush in your freshman year!

    Clubs and Activities

So many different clubs and activities available to students for free! Great leadership opportunities and resume builders!

There are many secret traditions at WCU, but being secret, I cannot disclose them. When you're a student here, you'll figure them out :) For now... just remember that the walls whisper.

    Bang for the buck

The absolute BEST bang for your buck in Pennsylvania. It is the cheapest option for education besides community college... and it's definitely worth it! A top notch education.

    What to do for fun

There is always a sporting event with high school spirit attendance on weekends. West Chester is a party school but there are lots of different options for people of all activity preferences!

    Food and Dining

While I have heard mixed reviews from my peers about the food and dining, I absolutely love it. There are two main food areas with great options and pricing, and about five other smaller venues. These include Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and Einstein Bros. Bagels!

    Dorm Life

There are so many different options for dorms at West Chester depending on your budget and living situation preference. There are many clubs whose goal is organizing activities for those living in the dorms. Everyone keeps their doors open and is very communal!

    Academic Rigor

Gen ed courses are very difficult in comparison to other universities. Professors for these large classes are usually less interested in helping students, so they are definitely much harder. However, upper level major courses are very fair overall.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! Being a state school, West Chester has a very wide variety of involvement opportunities. You have the ability to explore all different types of studies and activities, and they're all actually really fun. When you start school, you make an overwhelming number of new people. But your best friend matches are going to be people with the same interests as you, and there's no easier way to find them than to join clubs and groups!

    In three sentences

West Chester is essentially three blocks of a close-knit ram pride community. The variety of academics is unmatchable, and the professors truly strive to teach you life skills rather than just memorizing random facts. A large university, West Chester is not only diverse, but offers so many amazing opportunities.

    What to do for fun

As I stated before, Philly is a 45 minute drive from the campus but if you don't feel like driving, West Chester has plenty to offer. It is a small community as I stated but if offers many restaurants and small stores to shop and there is a shopping center just ten minutes away. Those who are interested in art or music, there is a place called The Note which is cafe that host poetry slams or have local talent come out and play their music.

    Food and Dining

I believe that all campus food doesn't taste great because it's not the same as your mother's cooking but since you paid for a meal plan you paid for whatever the food and dining services offers. However, I do work for the food services on the campus and the food court that I am a cashier at doesn't have the same foods as the dining hall. We offer steaks and burgers, or deli sandwiches, Chik-fil-A, and we have something called Home Zone where we prepare foods that reminds the student of being at home and having their mother or whoever cook for them.

    Dorm Life

As your share a dorm or a suite with people, mainly strangers, you get to see how they live and who they are as people. I believe that sharing dorms is a great to learn how to interact with of all shapes and colors because the world is not made up of once race or group of people.

    Academic Rigor

West Chester's overall curriculum is about the same as many other schools however, it depends on your major & whether the courses that you are taking are more time consuming than others. West Chester is very strict with their academic policies and do not play around with grades. They take their courses very seriously.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking to attend West Chester please understand that the majority of people attending the school are majoring in something that has to do with education. So, if you want to major in business for example try to look for schools that focus on business majors more. Please do your research before you start deciding which school you want to attend because the worst thing you can do is to attend a school you do not feel comfortable or one that doesn't focus on your major more.

    In three sentences

West Chester is a great school for those who want to take up Education since it was founded as a teaching school. West Chester is a small community and a the university if a fair in size so you'll be able to interact more with your professors. Finally, for those who've never experienced the 'city life' you will be able to attend sport events, concerts, visit museums and even shop because Philly is just 45 minutes away from West Chester.

Public safety is very helpful. If you don't feel safe, you can call them and they will walk you home from anywhere on campus.

    Greek Life

I am a member of greek life on the West Chester Campus. I love being apart of it there is so much unity among the group. We sponsor so many great philanthropic activities on campus. We have the highest GPA of any group on campus. If you are coming to West Chester I would definitely recommend inquiring more information about greek life.

Homecoming is a huge celebration for students. There is a huge parade for all clubs and its a really fun day. A lot of West Chester alumni come back for the festivities.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of nice restaurants to go to in town. Fruity yogurt is always a exciting place on a weekend if you want some frozen yogurt. Also the campus is always really great about hosting activities.

    Food and Dining

There are so many places on campus you are allowed to use your meal swipes. Lawrence dining hall is not a horrible place for a quick meal. There is also Starbucks which is attached to the library. There is rams head dining area and Einstein's bagels. If you don't have a meal plan there are tons of great food trucks that line the streets and many great restaurants in town.

    Dorm Life

Depending on what dorm you live in, dorming can be great. The affiliated dorms such as Brandywine or Allegheny are like living in a Hotel. Rooms are so nice and you get free laundry!!

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor really all depends on your major. I know friends who barely have any work for their major. For me getting adjusted to the workload for my major was pretty tough. The teachers for my major expect a lot of you. So choose your major wisely.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely recommend coming to West Chester. I love my school. I would recommend for freshmen to really get to know your teachers it can help you in the long-run. Take advantage of their office hours and study sessions they offer. Don't get too caught up in the party scene, its good to have fun but remember your there for education.

    Bang for the buck

One of the least expensive four year colleges in PA.

    What to do for fun

The town of West Chester is your typical college town, within blocks from the university you'll find the town center. Shops, bars, restaurants, there's always something to do. Philadelphia is also only 45 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

I am a commuter, but the food trucks on campus are great for lunch.

    Academic Rigor

In my experience the professors can be tough, but are always willing to help out struggling students. The LARC center has a great tutoring program to help you get through those gen ed requirements.

    Tips for prospective students

Be persistent. When I applied I didn't hear back until I called to follow up on my application. Don't be afraid to talk to the professors. They are very helpful in giving advice on your major.

    In three sentences

West Chester is a great bargain for your money as far as state schools go. The campus is beautiful; and they're always making improvements on the grounds. While a very DIY school (common for all state colleges), professors and staff are very helpful when you ask for guidance.

    What to do for fun

Get involved in anything that may interest you! Also we have an area in the middle of campus known as The Quad where many students hang out on nice days to do work, or just kick back and play some games. There is also something we call Sykes After Dark, that is held on Fridays. Every Friday has a theme to enjoy. Some nights there are free prizes given out by raffle, or free little things to get while you're there.

    Food and Dining

I enjoy the food here at each location we have. Our cafe, Lawrence Dining Hall, is our main cafe where most students eat regularly. The food there is our basic college food. They have a nice variety each day, but there's always the option of grabbing a nice healthy salad. In our Sykes Student Union, where our bookstore is located, we also have an eatery called Ram's Head. In there, all of the food you select is more tasty than in Lawrence, in my opinion. For example, Chik-fil-a is located there, and also there is a grill area where one can order anything from a hamburger to a cheese steak!

    Dorm Life

West Chester has a huge variety of housing, more than I've seen throughout colleges I have visited. Our traditional dorms are older buildings, but it's been said it is a lot easier to meet new people in these dorms. We also have our affiliated housing here, which are our new dorms (Brandywine, Allegheny, and University Halls). These new dorms are amazing! They have AC in the rooms as well as heat. The fact that they are new bring a more homey feel rather than an old college dorm. There is also our South Campus Housing, which are The Village and our South Campus Apartments. These two options mostly attract our upper class-man. The Village is more of an apartment that has 5 individual rooms and really helps you feel more freedom. The apartments are similar, but you may have a room with a roommate.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are taken very serious, as it is for many colleges I assume. I've noticed that professors here are very helpful, and really good at giving individual help if needed. The courses I've been through haven't been too difficult, but I found that there is always someone available to help students with any questions.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Go to random events just to see what is going on. Do not procrastinate on school work. Always prioritize your school work and activities, it is easy to get overwhelmed if not.

    In three sentences

West Chester is a great school with a wide variety of opportunities. This is the school to attend if you love to get involved in many things or even start new things for people to get involved in. West Chester definitely has the students best interest in mind!

BANANA DAY! Not exactly the coolest thing ever but it is pretty fun and funny. There is a planetarium on campus but its hard to find when it's running. This is a hidden gem of the school and should be hit.

    Bang for the buck

School is usually considered top 3 best buys for college in the state. Little pricey in town however great place to find a part time job. Great networking opportunities set up by the school.

    What to do for fun

With downtown not very far there's a ton of things to do. Great bars and restaurants within walking distance it is a ton of fun. If you have access to a car the Exton mall, King of Prussia Mall, and Philadelphia are really not too far.

    Food and Dining

Can be tricky at first but once you know what days to go and where to go you will not be disappointed. Plenty of different thing on campus and tons of options of campus although that will be slightly more expensive. Dining staff is friendly and often hilarious to make dining all that much better.

    Dorm Life

I only lived in the dorms one year and have made some of the best friends there. Even though some have graduated we still keep in touch. Great times I really won't forget.

    Academic Rigor

Upper level classes can be tough however, the campus isn't so big where you are just another face in the crowd. Teachers really do care and there are plenty of places to get academic help.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved early. Going to a new school is hard join a bunch of clubs you actually have interest in. Once you find friends and meet a bunch of new people feel free to start dropping less interesting or less active clubs. Take advantage of the downtown area to maybe get a part time job or blow off some steam.

    Campus Safety

I feel safe anywhere that I go on my campus. We have public safety poles where you can call for a public safety officer to come to you. The idea of the poles is that if you are standing at one you should be able to see another one somewhere on campus from where you stand. West Chester works hard to make sure that public safety is very available for us to feel safe at all times.

    Greek Life

While I am not involved in any Greek Life soro/frat, I do appreciate the wide variety of groups they have on our campus. West Chester not only has the divine nine on campus, but other sonority and fraternities that I recently learned about upon arrival here.

    Clubs and Activities

I am involved in a few clubs and activities on campus. My favorite club that I am involved in is called Precise and it's a modeling group on campus. We have a fashion show during the fall semester and hair show during the spring semester. I am also apart of the management club, where we learn how to manage businesses and clients.

Great for these types of students

If you are a person willing to try new things and meet all kinds of people , then West Chester is the college for you. I'm only in the beginning of my sophomore year here and I've met people from all different walks of life. Its a really good culture experience and learning how to deal with different lifestyles now will help you later in your career and regular life. In addition, if you are someone who feels like you need a school that is going to support your dreams and help you achieve them realistically, then West Chester is surely the school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition that I enjoy here at West Chester is the Homecoming parade. Every year during our big Homecoming game, we all get up early in the morning to see the Homecoming parade. In this parade there is everything from gay pride to homecoming queens of course.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely feel like I got my money's worth coming to West Chester. Thanks to Sykes Student Union, there is always an activity going on here. We've had drag shoes, carnivals, bake sales, movie nights, and many other fun activities. Not to mention the tremendous amount of support from West Chester such as: the Writing Center, tutoring, multiple computer labs, and the 125 pages we are allowed to print out for free per week.

    What to do for fun

For fun I like to got o Precise Practice, which is a modeling group I'm involved in on campus; we have two fashion shows a year. I also enjoy going to the programs hosted by the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sonority Inc.

    Food and Dining

West Chester does not have the best food that I've ever tasted, but it's no where near the worst. Although I don't like eating out of our school cafeteria, there are a host of other places I do enjoy eating at. For example, our school diner has good chicken fingers and french fries-- which is my favorite thing to eat. We also have an Einstein Bros Bagel and a Chic Fil A on campus.

    Dorm Life

During my freshman year of college I lived in a dorm at West Chester University, and I hated it. It was always very loud and unstructured. I didn't like sharing a bathroom with anyone who wanted to use it. Luckily, West Chester offers on campus apartment housing to upper-class men, which is where I happily live this year.

    Academic Rigor

West Chester does not receive enough recognition for their academics. Coming into my freshman year, I had to attend a summer program at West Chester, ADP; of course I didn't want to give up my summer, but in the end the program ended up helping me a lot. By the time I actually started my Freshman year of college I already gained 6 credits towards my GPA and 3 credits towards graduation. Not to mention that I felt like I was now fully prepared for my upcoming year as a college freshman.

    Tips for prospective students

One important tip that I have to incoming freshman is to keep an open mind. I know that sometimes things at West Chester may seem redundant or pointless, but just know that they have a plan for you. In addition to keeping an open mind, make as many friends as you can and get involved. You won't have a positive college experience without getting involved.

    In three sentences

West Chester University is a very diverse college, where you learn to adapt to many different cultures and lifestyles. Although I don't like the food here, I've enjoyed all my classes that I've taken so far. I would definitely rate West Chester A 10/10 on an education level.

WCU does a good job of notifying students of any safety issues that happen around campus.

Great for these types of students

Non-commuters and students who do not plan on working full time during their academic careers.

    Bang for the buck

I still don't feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for, mostly due to the adjunct professors I often get during night classes.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of great bars once you turn 21. Main street has a lot of shopping. The school offers a lot of recreational sports and actvities to get involved in.

    Food and Dining

Great restaurants on Main Street. Never ate at school cafeterias since I've always commuted.

    Academic Rigor

I feel like the only professors I have had are adjunct professors who don't seem to care about the class or the students and make the class easy just to make their own lives easy.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the professors you'll be getting are not adjunct professors who don't seem to care about the class. Get to know the campus before you start classes so you aren't running around looking for your building. Get a parking pass early. Look at your bill and aid notifications regularly.

    In three sentences

West Chester has a beautiful campus. A lot of the night teachers are adjunct professors. Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting what I'm paying for.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety works really well here. We have many security guards. At least one in each dorm building from 8pm to 4am. You could also find one around campus whenever needed or just press on of the emergancy call station buttons.

    Greek Life

I'm not really involved with the Greek life, but it seems to work well here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities here. At least one for every single person to do what they like. And if you really cant find one that you like, you can always start a new one.

Great for these types of students

I really think it's great for any type of student, but two of the biggest degree programs here are music and history. So, for either of those types of students this would be a very good school.

    Bang for the buck

WCU is really not that pricey for a school. For the education and the environment here it is such a great deal! It would probably be my first recommendation for someone with a low budget.

    What to do for fun

For fun I'll take a walk around campus or into town. Somtimes, i'll just hang in the dorm building with friends. But there is always something going on that you can go to if you get board. You just have to look around campus or look on line for it.

    Food and Dining

There are so many options for food here. From the food court, to the dinning hall, to the diner; and more. Also, you can take a short walk into town and have even more options. There is an option for everyone here.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. I have made so many new friends from just walking down the halls, to talking to the RAs, to going to socials. Even the traditional dorm rooms here aren't that bad, and cool to live in. Also, having a roommate isn't that bad. Just make sure to connect with them since you will be living with them for a year. Then it's great!

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of the classes here really depends on who you have as a teacher and how you work with them instructing you. Along with, How hard you work. The competition here also isn't that bad. Everyone starts off equal and has to work equally as hard to stay up with the academics.

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to try new things; especially at WCU. There are so many clubs and organizations that you are bound to find something that you love.

    In three sentences

I Love it here at WCU. The learning environment is great, and I can tell the professors and other students of the university really care about what they are doing here. That makes both the social and academic experiences here awesome.

I feel safe on campus. It's well lit. There's also a Blue Light system (you can call Campus Safety from these). There's also an ALERT text system, so students are well-informed when assaults (however rare they are) do happen.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a presence on campus, but not overwhelming. Personally, I am not involved in Greek Life, but I don't feel judged for that. It's there if you want it, but it's not something you need to be involved in to make friends.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 200 clubs. Personally, I wasn't in many clubs in high school, but at college, I have joined over 7 clubs. There's clubs for every major, hobby, and sport. Something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

WCU is great for students who want a big school with lots of options. Class sizes are still generally under 30, though lecture hall classes do happen occasionally.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a Starbucks on the first floor of the library.

    Bang for the buck

West Chester University is a state-school. For around $20,000 a year, I am living in the nicest dorm on campus and have a meal plan. The academic standards are still there, there are a multitude of events (talks from authors, movie nights, laser tag night, Sykes After Dark, etc.) on campus, and there's an amazing amount of extra-curricular activities.

    What to do for fun

Sykes After Dark is a weekly (Friday night) event. Though it sounds a little lame, it's often a lot of fun. Every week there are free giveaways (T-shirts, personalized poker chips, photo mugs, cork boards, etc). There's a different event at it each week (comedians, video game night, open mic night, dances, etc). There's also a movie aired on the weekends, which students can see for $2. There's also over 200 clubs on campus, which are a blast.

    Food and Dining

Lawrence Dining Hall (the main dining hall on campus) is alright. While it lacks variety sometimes, it does have consistent options. There's always wraps, salad, soup, grilled chicken and grilled cheese, pasta, and pizza. For those who don't like the main dining hall, there are alternative locations. Though they cost more money, the Diner and the Student Union Food Court offer alternative dining options.

    Dorm Life

WCU has affiliated housing which is owned by an outside company. For an additional cost per semester, students can live in affiliated housing. I share my room with one person and we have our own private bathroom. The rooms are huge and air-conditioned. On the first floor, my dorm also has its own computer lab (with unlimited printing, as long as you have paper), a movie theater you can use with your friends, and a full kitchen.

    Academic Rigor

As a first semester freshman, none of my classes ridiculously difficult. However, I do find challenges. My classes still educate me and interest me, without stressing me out.

    Tips for prospective students

When choosing your college, it's important to visit a lot of campuses. You won't know what you DO want, until you realize what you don't want. It's worth it to tour a campus before committing to going to school. At WCU, I made so many friends by joining clubs and really getting out of my dorm room. College is the time to meet new people.

    In three sentences

WCU is a large school (over 12,000 students), which gives students a huge variety of opportunities. With other 200 clubs and a multitude of majors, there is something for everyone. WCU is a great value: less expensive than private schools, while still maintaining high academic standards.

Students should be very out going with it comes to meeting new people. It helps to be open minded about your classes because the curriculum is different in college. They should always remember to put their studies before everything else.

Banana Day is the greatest. Once a year in april the school promotes healthy eating by handing out bananas around campus and pairs with the school radio station to put together a bunch of fun activities to win banana themed shirts, which are a trophy of sorts on campus.

    Bang for the buck

You get a really good education and the cost is relatively cheap compared to a lot of other schools. In-state with tuition and room and board it comes out to somewhere around $12,000-$14,000, so really not bad compared to other state schools.

    What to do for fun

Each dorm hall has monthly events to get every one together. Football games are fun if you can get a good amount of people to go. Sykes after dark is their big promotion, a weekly event at the student union, its kind of lame but some people enjoy it. There is also a brand new, beautiful Rec center that students should take advantage of.

    Food and Dining

The food in Lawrence Dining Hall varies, I can't say its great but its my understanding that in most schools it is very hard to mass produce food for the student body. Its not awful but it could be better. There are some nights where the food exceeds expectations, it's like Christmas.

    Dorm Life

There are two types of dorms. Traditional housing, which is very old and basic. Then there is Affiliated which is similar to a modern hotel with updated furnishings. I loved dorm life, i met a lot of great people and there are a lot of activities to get acquainted with people in your building.

    Academic Rigor

As a history major, I have to say I have one of the easier majors the school offers. Mostly reading that you have to spend a little time processing. However, I know people who are in the science department who spend at least twenty hours a week in the library. It all depends on your major.

    Tips for prospective students

Be comfortable going to a school with a medium sized student body. Stay on top of your work, but if you have any questions or need further help, seek instructors during office hours!

    Bang for the buck

West Chester is extremely cheap when compared to other colleges. That is banking on the fact that you are from in-state. It provides as good of an education as you can get for the price, and even better!

    What to do for fun

Whether it is extracurriculars through the school, campus groups, or affiliated groups from nearby places, there is always something to do on campus. From different events scheduled yearly, the special themes planned every Friday night on campus, or the small town atmosphere a block from campus, you will have something to do if you want something to do.

    Food and Dining

Despite what others complain about, the food here is pretty good. Now, like all campuses, you learn what to avoid. But, on a normal day, there are many options, solid choices, and choices for the health-attentive. As long as you aren't too picky, you will find something and somewhere that you will like.

    Dorm Life

As in most things, it is what you make it. I found a roommate I liked, and we had a good time! If you like the academic side of college, find someone with the same view. If you like partying 24/7, don't go to college. Dorms are what you make them, but there are plenty chances to make it a positive experience.

    Academic Rigor

As far as the music department goes, you will have your hands full. Not to the point of giving up, but as far as my schedule goes, it is challenging. 12 classes, 18 credit hours, and the strong encouragement to practice my instrument at least 2 hours a day. It gets a bit overwhelming at times.

    Tips for prospective students

Do research and apply early. That will ensure that you are eligible for the most grant and scholarship money. And, although West Chester is a fairly cheap school (if you're in-state), any extra money that decreases debt is never something to turn down!

    In three sentences

Overall, West Chester University is a great campus as long as you come with the intent of furthering education. They provide quality education, friendly professors, and many opportunities to get involved. You will not be disappointed if coming for the right reasons.

    Academic Rigor

The classes for your major are definitely challenging and you will have to put a lot of work in but you will have plenty of time for leisure activities as well.
